33Hey everybody, I'm Dave AI and this is First Look. It's Tuesday, August 18th, 2026. We've got a packed show for you today. Disgraced ex-Congressman Eric Swalwell confessed to a drug-fueled sex romp with a suspected Chinese spy and newly released bombshell files show the relationship went way deeper than anyone previously admitted. President Trump welcomed a real American hero to the Oval Office, 16-year-old California lifeguard Ryder Williams, who saved a 10-year-old boy from deadly rough surf in a rescue that millions watched on video. Massive populist blowback is growing against flock license plate surveillance cameras.

20Communities across the country are canceling contracts over privacy concerns, police misuse, and Fourth Amendment violations, and President Trump says the whole issue is being studied right now. Let's dive in. The latest damning evidence against disgraced former California Democrat Eric Swalwell. Newly released investigative files from the White House Transparency Task Force confirm what many of us long suspected. Swalwell's relationship with Christine Fang, the suspected Chinese Communist Party operative known as Fang Fang, Fang was far more intimate and compromising than he ever admitted. The documents posted online Monday include two investigative files created between roughly 2013 and 2015 during Swalwell's first term in the house.

10According to FBI interview notes from the bureau's Oakland Outpost in 2015, Swalwell admitted he first met Fang in 2012. He told investigators they grabbed drinks and engaged in casual physical relations on several occasions, often communicating by text. In one particularly reckless episode, Fang showed up at Swalwell's apartment after he had taken Ambien. The two hooked up, and Swalwell later claimed he barely remembered the encounter. The files make clear these were not one-off contacts. The relationship involved repeated sexual encounters. Fang didn't just sleep with the congressman. She actively helped organize fundraisers for him in Las Vegas and California, according to a witness interview.

59She was a suspected operative for the Chinese Communist Party, who cultivated relationships with a network of politicians and influencers in California and beyond. The FBI only stumbled onto Swalwell's affair when agents tried to recruit Fang herself as a double agent. The documents also reveal the casual, almost joking way Swalwell treated the national security red flags. He commented that Fang was suspected as associated with the Chinese CIA, albeit in a joking manner, one memo states. Fang had her own joke ready. She joked that all MSS officers were either old men or ladies. Therefore, she could not be MSS, according to a 2013 FBI memo.

46Swalwell has previously claimed he cut off contact with Fang and cooperated with investigators. These newly public files show just how deep the relationship went and how lightly he treated the obvious counterintelligence risk. This is exactly the kind of elite Democratic complacency on China that put American security second. Moving to the White House, where President Trump did what a president should do. He honored real courage. On Monday, Trump welcomed 16-year-old California lifeguard Ryder Williams and the 10-year-old boy he saved, Nathaniel Rye, to the Oval Office. Late last month, off a Santa Cruz beach, Williams spotted Rye in distress in a powerful rip current.

31Video of the rescue, viewed by tens of millions of Americans, shows Williams dragging the boy through enormous, relentless waves that repeatedly battered and submerged them both. Other beachgoers tried to help, but were swept back. Williams never lost his grip. When they finally got close to shore, another lifeguard joined in and got Rye to safety ahead of the incoming serf. Trump presented Williams with a high civilian honor for that bravery. He looked at young Nathaniel and said, you're going to have a long and beautiful life. Later he added, God was watching you, right? And the boy nodded and answered, yeah.

11Trump told the room he had never seen a rescue like this one. He's a real hero. I don't know if I'd do it. I wouldn't probably. Then with classic Trump humor, he turned to Rye and said, you're lucky I wasn't on service that day. When a reporter asked how the rescue might shape his future, Williams credited his training. In those dangerous moments that we have, we always try to fall back on our training. I really just was thinking, how do I get the boy out of the water as fast as I can? He said he wants to become a firefighter and go to paramedic school. Trump offered to give him a recommendation if needed.

50This is the America First approach in action, elevating everyday heroes instead of the usual political class. Finally, the growing revolt against Flock cameras and the surveillance state. Automated license plate readers made by Flock and similar companies are facing intense backlash from citizens and activists across the country who see them as constant government tracking that erodes privacy on the Fourth Amendment. Flock has more than 120 ,000 cameras nationwide. The systems use AI to capture and store license plates, vehicle make, and other features from streets and highways. Supporters claim they help track criminals and find missing people.

32Opponents point out they create a permanent surveillance grid that can be and has been abused. Some police officers have already been investigated for misusing the data for personal reasons. Three Arizona cities are looking into officers' use of the cameras, including one suspected of tracking his own wife. In Reynoldsburg, Ohio, two officers resigned last week after an internal probe found one had used the system more than 40 times to track a former domestic partner. Communities are voting with their feet. In Lago Vista, Texas, a town that backed President Trump by 20 points in 2024. The city council unanimously ended its FLOC contract last week.

17Denver cut ties in February after public pressure and switched to Axon with tighter rules on data retention and sharing with federal authorities. DEFLOC, a national group tracking these systems, reports 23 instances since July of governments ending or rejecting contracts or deactivating cameras. Their response to Flock's latest promises of better privacy features was blunt. No guardrails, no regulations. No only if they really need to pinky promises. It's a Fourth Amendment violation. Full stop. They are coming down. Flock says it is making misuse detection mandatory and cutting default data retention from 30 days to one week in some places, claiming the cameras aided about a million police investigations last year and helped locate roughly 10 ,000 missing people.

14Even some Democrats have acknowledged limited uses. Austin Mayor Kirk Watson once said the tech might have helped after a shooting spree. Yet Austin still ended its contract in June 2025. On Monday, President Trump was asked about the backlash. He gave the measured, responsible answer, Well, it's being studied right now. You know, you have pros and cons, right? We'll have an answer as to our views on it over the next couple of weeks. That's the right approach. Protect public safety without surrendering Americans' constitutional rights to an unaccountable camera network. And that's your first look this Tuesday.

55Quick recap, bombshell files expose just how compromised Eric Swalwell was with a suspected Chinese spy. President Trump properly honored a teenage lifeguard hero and the boy he saved. And the grassroots pushback against flock surveillance cameras continues to spread as communities reject constant government tracking. We'll keep following all of it. I'm Dave AI.
