In short
The episode covers three main stories: (1) Ilhan Omar and claims of “marrying her brother,” including a viral interview where she denies it while being asked about alleged criminal investigation for immigration/marriage fraud; (2) cultural/political backlash around Macklemore being removed from Ed Sheeran’s tour after a pro-Palestinian rant, with debate over free speech vs freedom of association; (3) AI regulation politics, sparked by a low-level Anthropic employee’s viral tweet and subsequent calls (including Bernie Sanders legislation) to regulate/slow AI, plus claims that China rejects U.S. calls to slow development.
Guests
Lindy Lee, political strategist and author of Unburdened; Jordan Schachtel, AI policy expert and publisher of The Dossier on Substack.
Key claims
Omar is lying and should face consequences; tour cancellations are lawful association; AI regulation is portrayed as politically motivated, possibly anti-competitive, and could cede advantage to China.
Notable examples
Allison Steinberg’s Hill interview; Macklemore/Ed Sheeran; Joy Behar/The View; Jacob Coxon/Anthropic; Bernie Sanders’ AI legislation; China rejecting AI slowdown; CNN/Jake Tapper and Gavin Newsom fly-fishing segment.

1:07All right, ladles and jelly spoons. I'm Dave Rubin. This is The Rubin Report. It's September 18th, 2026. And joining me for another roundtable extravaganza is political strategist and author of the upcoming book about three days from now, Unburdened, Lindy Lee. Nice to see you again. And also joining me is an AI policy expert and publisher of the Dossier on Substack, Jordan Schachtel. How are you guys? Thank you for having us. It's good to see both of you. Jordan, I know you are here in the free state of Florida. Lindy, are you where I can't? The screen's a little far in my distance, so I can't quite make it out where you are.
1:51That's William Penn here in Philadelphia. Ah, you are in Philadelphia. All right. Well, go find out where the cream cheese is made, huh? Or the light cream cheese. Okay. I'm actually lactose intolerant, which is deeply unfortunate. Oh, well. Yeah, I know. I'm Asian. What are you going to do? Are the Asians known to be lactose intolerant? I guess Asians don't have a tremendous amount of dairy. All right. Well, thanks for doing the show, guys. Nice to see you. All right. Here we go. Obviously, the big thing this week was all the AI craziness, and we are going to cover that. But I want to get to a couple things that I didn't get to throughout the week first.
2:26Then we'll dive into that and then finish up with some general madness on the Democrat side. Surprise, surprise. First, Ilhan Omar, it looks like she's finally going to be in some actual hot water as it relates to marrying her brother, something that you shouldn't do, number one. And number two, we've all kind of known about online for probably two, three years at this point. And it's finally breaking its way into the mainstream. Trump has even mentioned it at this point. Allison Steinberg, who works for Lindell TV, she's fantastic. She goes on the Hill and she just gets in these people's faces.
3:02Here she is asking Ilhan about marrying her brother. Hi, Congresswoman. Tom Homan said that you're under criminal investigation for immigration and marriage fraud. Any comment on that? No, I don't have a comment for that. No? No. You always say no one's above the law, so do you think you should be above the law? I am not above the law. Well, if there's some marriage fraud, can you just tell us straight up, did you marry your brother? Absolutely not. What a ridiculous thing to ask. Well, then why are you... Did you marry your brother? Absolutely not. Absolutely not. That's disgusting. Nobody should be doing that.
3:35Why are you being criminally investigated? I am not. Yes, you are. I am not. Well, then Tom Homan's a liar or what? He is. He's saying some dumb shit like you. Oh, thank you, Congresswoman. God, it's so interesting to me how quickly she can just get so nasty. These tolerant, nice, decent, diverse people. Lindy, let me start with you here because you, like me, not to judge, you were once a Democrat, more recently than I was. This seems like an open secret for the last two to three plus years. There's a lot of evidence of it. Again, Trump already tweeted about it or Truth Social about it a couple of months ago.
4:12there is an investigation and she's just going to keep lying here, right? Or I don't want to color your answer here. Do you believe this to be true? And if it is, is she just, do we have her playbook? It's just to keep lying? Dave, I don't believe anything that comes out of this woman's mouth. She clearly hates our country, frankly, and anyone like her, in my opinion, should be deported or at least at the very least not be serving in the United States Congress. This lying about her brother is honestly just one of many lies she's told. How did she suddenly accrued$30 million of wealth during her time in Congress as a supposed public servant.
4:47Well, don't forget, she did then tell us when people called her out on that, she did tell us. It was an account. Yeah, okay, Dave. Yeah. And I have NFT to sell everybody who believes that. But this woman constantly fear mongers about our country, constantly incites hatred towards, I believe, the most amazing country in the world, constantly trashes us. And I frankly think that she defiles everything about the United States Congress. She doesn't belong there. Jordan, it seems to me, I mean, the marriage certificate is out there. I don't care what she says because she's obviously a liar and a fraudster and all of those things.
5:27Do you think this is one where someone is actually going to pay the price, where she actually might have to step down from Congress and potentially could be denaturalized? I mean, you're not allowed to commit federal immigration fraud. You know, at the very least, it could be part of a negotiation strategy for Republicans when you have this kind of leverage on someone. But I do have to admire how beautifully awkward that conversation is, that Steinberg basically shoves a microphone in her face and asks if she married her brother. I mean, we do have like, what, a decade's worth of reporting on this issue that does indicate that she did indeed marry her brother.
6:01So I'm glad that the Trump administration at least is investigating this. Yeah, it just seems to me that these things happen all the time and nothing really happens like, what's his name, Swalwell. For years we knew that he was sleeping or had slept with or had relations with Fang Fang, the Chinese spy, and then still was running for governor and was taken out for a whole other set of reasons. I have a feeling this one's going to have some teeth. There's something around the timing on it that I think so. Let's jump to another topic that was more on the cultural side this week, but of course everything cultural becomes political.
6:33This from the New York Post. McLemore blames Jewish NFL owner Robert Kraft for getting kicked off Ed Sheerhan tour, paints himself as a martyr in a wacky statement. So he was opening up for Ed Sheerhan, went on a pro-Palestinian rant, and they've decided just not to have him on the tour. Maybe people don't want politics at their tour. There's no violation of free speech. We do have freedom of association in the United States, and he can go on someone else's tour if someone else wants him. But, Lindy, these people must be the victims at all times. And people should be forced. Don't you think people should be forced to work with people despite their political views?
7:13You should have no choice? Dave, you know, we do have freedom of speech in our country, but you also have the freedom to be kicked out. You know, no one should be forced to do business with you. Last time I checked, it's not written to the Constitution that Macklemore has to be able to perform with Ed Sheeran, right? And frankly, I feel like Ed Sheeran's a big enough star. Why does he even need Macklemore, who's from like a decade ago? When was his last hit? Do you remember? I don't know. No, I... Literally a decade ago. I honestly don't know one Macklemore song. Jordan, you're a pop music expert.
7:46What was Macklemore's last big song? It was that phone number, the Suicide Hotline phone number. Yeah, I don't know what that is. Jordan, I suspect that if a pro-Israel musician was fired, that these people would not be up in arms about this. And again, they seem to not understand the difference between free speech and freedom of association. It's interesting that, of course, that's definitely what would happen. But when Macklemore did this, he put out this post after he left the tour saying that, oh, he's such a good friend of Ed Sheeran. Imagine if I came on this show and just like steamrolled you guys for 20 minutes about my like super controversial pet issue.
8:29And it's like, OK, we can continue now. Right. Exactly. If he was such a how about how about just go up there and sing? But they're they're incessant. Look, I may disagree. I obviously disagree with this guy on quote unquote Palestine or whatever. That's fine. But this incessant need to make everything political where it's you know, it's basically 14 year old girls. They didn't come there to hear his political rants. AOC has chimed in. And of course, she's on the idiotic side on this thing, on this very impromptu interview at TMZ. What has happened with the act and not just in removing Macklemore from the lineup, but when you see what Robert Kraft did to line up all of the stadiums to censor speech in that one specific way, it's become clear that this is not just about one music artist or two music artists, but this is about how just a handful of stadium owners and the elite can prevent an entire massive issue, in this case the genocide in Gaza, but it doesn't stop there.
9:36It could be speaking out about AI. It could be speaking out about any issue that you can now just get a handful of stadium owners to ensure that an entire person's Career can be jeopardized if they speak out about any issue. God, she is so dim First off it should be noted that was with TMZ There's a guy by the name of Kevin Dalton. I follow on X who worked for TMZ for years Those interviews where they just suddenly get the mic in their face. Those are completely set up. They they are planned And she knew that they were about to put the mic in her face. She was ready to roll there. Lindy, again, there's all this confusion about freedom of association.
10:12She really wanted to say Jews. She really wanted to say Jews when she says owners there. But does she have any understanding that people just don't want this crap in their entertainment anymore? Dave, all these people, frankly, should follow Dolly Parton's example and just stay the F out of it. We don't care about your political views. We're there for the music, please and thank you. It's getting really tired right now, and I'm sure Macklemore couldn't actually even tell you anything about foreign policy. He just hopped on the most convenient bandwagon. And I know AOC personally, so I'm going to be the last person on the face of this planet to ever defend her.
10:55Well, let me ask you this, since you do know her and you worked in Democrat politics literally just, you know, basically two and a half years ago. I mean, do you think she believes anything she says? Do you think she believes this is an actual affront to free speech? Do you think she actually believes there was a genocide in Gaza, which there was not? And they have the lowest combatant to civilian ratio in modern warfare history, considering it was urban warfare and people were hidden underground and everything else. Like, do you think she believes any of it? I think she might believe in it. I don't think she's a smartest individual, I must say.
11:29I think she's a middling intelligence. And something that people may not realize is that, and I talk about it in my book, actually, she tried to destroy my life in 2019 because I said I wouldn't support the DSA. The DSA was a problem even then. I don't know if you remember, but it was starting to rise at that time. She said, you know, I was abetting Trump, that I was awful, basically insinuated that I was a Nazi. These are the tactics that she engages in. And the National Affiliates Committee, the DNC leadership did not want her around. I haven't been around in the past year, but up until 2024, she was ostracized from like actual big donor events because we wanted nothing to do with her.
12:15We saw the squad is toxic. Well, for a toxic group of people, I mean, And they've somehow, they've ginned up the base to win primaries. We'll see what happens in the general. Jordan, before I have you chime in, let me show you this clip of Bill Maher on last Friday's real time, where he just debunks not only the genocide narrative, which is nonsense, but the Macklemore stuff. And just what is wrong with the young people today? Because nowhere has this moral confusion become more obvious than in a place called Gaza, a little strip of land that was not part of the original Israel, but which they won in a war launched against them, but then gave back, gave back as a peace gesture.
12:59Did they tell you that part on TikTok, kids? And the people who run Gaza, Hamas, who you celebrate as a liberation movement, but are really a terrorist mafia gang, just like the one that terrorizes Haiti, only ever used it to stage attacks on Israel. I think McLemore spoke for all clueless celebrities when he said, I know enough to know this is a genocide. Actually, you don't know shit. It's not a genocide. It's a counterattack in a war, a war that's been waged on Israel since 1948 based on the ridiculous premise that Jews don't belong in the one place on earth they are indigenous and indisputably their ancestral homeland.
13:41Hey, geniuses, they're the Indians in this scenario. Jordan, is there something rather remarkable about liberal, and I mean liberal in the good sense of the word, Bill Maher still sticking his flag, you know, trying to hold out for liberalism in a wash of leftist socialist lunacy, and also not only making a moral argument that makes sense, but a historical argument and everything else? Like, it's kind of nuts. Bill makes a great point. And I think Macklemore should prove his liberal values by having a concert in Gaza and talking about how important LGBT rights are and mandating that women are invited to the concert, too.
14:19And we'll just see how it goes. Macklemore should go to Gaza and have his peace concert. He should also maybe have Bernie open for him because, as most people know, although I saw the 47—Jordan, did you see it, the 47-minute video? The private 47-minute video that the Israeli army released? They've only shown it to certain people. I saw it. And when you watch the beheading, I mean, they show you a beheading with the guy smiling, and that's not even the worst of it. But the entire time they're talking about killing the Jews. They're not talking about killing the Israelis or the settlers or the Likud people.
14:52So suddenly I have a feeling Bernie probably won't show up there either. But let's shift, although this does involve Bernie a little bit, to this AI situation. Because obviously this story out of nowhere, this kid, Jacob Coxon, low-level employee at Anthropic, puts up a tweet. He has virtually no followers. Next thing you know, that day he's in the Wall Street Journal. He's on CNN. Now, magically, within 24 hours, Bernie Sanders has legislation written to stop AI as if that would even be possible. And it's just blowing up in the media everywhere. And fortunately, I think the lines are being drawn in a nice way.
15:29Let's jump over to The View. Here's Joy Behar. And gosh darn, Linda, you're going to love this one. The Democrats can save us from the robots. I just say that there are Democrats working for this to take care of this. Governor Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania, a Democrat. J.B. Pritzker, a Democrat, Governor of Illinois, and Gavin Newsom in California. They're all signing laws for safety requirements. I do not see that on the other side. I see Trump saying, don't worry about it. It has to be done at the federal level. Ted Cruz is also actually working on it. All right, Cruz, because he's working with Klobuchar, who's a Democrat.
16:04Planning your next adventure? With the SmartBuddy Insurance app, Travel Insurance is just a hop away. In just 60 seconds, you can secure up to$1 million of coverage for medical emergencies. Or get trip protection for delays or cancellations right from your phone. Download the Smart Bunny Insurance app today and travel smarter. Smart Bunny Insurance. Fast, easy, and always ready to hop into action. Smart Bunny. Smart Bunny. Insurance sold by Smart Bunny Insurance Services, Inc. Underwritten by various insurers. Coverage exclusions and limitations may apply. I have to say, I don't think we played a clip of The View this week, which is why I've been in such a great mood.
16:38I didn't even realize that. But, Lindy, this confusion with these people, Joy is excited that Democrats in certain states will have potentially certain laws around AI. Does she not realize that means that you're going to pass all the advancement and innovation and the curing of cancer and the building of the rockets and the robots and everything to the Republicans? And if you try to do it nationally, you're just going to hand it all to China? Yeah, that's a really good point. This is a geopolitical situation. And of course, Joy can't contain that in her head. She doesn't compute. This is a zero-sum game.
17:12And you can't unilaterally disarm. You got to make an international agreement. And do you think China is really going to come to the table? I guess we'll see at UNGA in a couple of days. But I'm not particularly helpful. So if the United States unilaterally disarms, what are we going to do with our biggest adversary? Are we just going to lay down our arms? This is the newest frontier. So we got to do everything we can to make sure that America remains the number one superpower, not China, not anywhere else. So Joy, for all due respect, she should stay to cultural issues and whatever she talks about on a daily basis and leave the actual thinking to adults.
17:48Oh, my God. Thank you, Joy. J.B. Pritzker will save Chicago from AI. They could use some robots out there to stop the shootings. But this from Polymarket and then, Jordan, I'll let you chime in on this to Lindy's point. Breaking, China rejects calls from U.S. tech leaders to slow AI development, blasting the warnings is fear-mongering. So, Jordan, you've been great on this. You immediately, when the Jacob Coxon story came out, you immediately broke some news about some of his affiliations. Maybe you want to get into that. But can you also comment on just the sort of the thin argument around, yes, if we Americans regulate it, that that will somehow stop Skynet from turning on?
18:26Yeah, Coxson, this former anthropic and open AI guy, he's affiliated with this kind of like elite small circle in the West Coast of tech bros who are very left wing and very much like in this ideological bubble where they don't seem to realize that the cat is out of the bag with this technology. We can't just throw it all away. They want to basically centralize control of AI because only they and their friends can be trusted to navigate us into the future. Of course, like any normal American reads this as very, very authoritarian. And then my worry about this, you know, you see Hillary, you see Obama coming out and saying like, oh, we need to make a deal with China.
19:06Well, they made a deal with China. It was a Paris climate deal. The U.S. spent millions of dollars and China did nothing. And now we've just continued forward. We already didn't just get bamboozled by China. They're setting up a disastrous diplomatic event with China. One of the great joys of running a business is discovering just how much bureaucracy the traditional financial system can throw at you. You can spend days filling out paperwork, waiting for answers, and jumping through hoops just to get access to capital. That's why I like Cardiff. Their application takes about three minutes. There's no impact on your personal credit just to apply.
19:40And you can get funded the same day. Cardiff has funded more than$12 billion to small businesses nationwide. If you've been in business for at least a year and make at least$20 ,000 a month in revenue, you can apply right now for up to$500 ,000 in same-day business funding at cardiff.co slash Rubin. That's cardiff.co slash Rubin. Real growth, fast funding. Cardiff, borrow better. Right, I just, I cannot imagine that they honestly think they can do, Let me ask you both this question. Do you think that Bernie and Elizabeth Warren and all the people calling for regulation, do you think they even have the remotest clue as to what they even think they're regulating and whether they can do it?
20:25The idea that government regulators are going to walk into Anthropic and be able to regulate something that the experts themselves are saying they can't quite control. Oh, Lindy, just like on its face, it's absurd. Yeah, these are the same people who probably figured out how to save a PDF like last week. Right. Bernie definitely could not operate a VCR in 1986. That's what I've been saying. Yeah, so forgive me if I'm not taking technical advice from Bernie Sanders or any sort of other advice, to be honest. Frankly, Elizabeth Warren is always looking for the next shiny thing to rally around. It's always something with her.
21:01So I don't, you know, I don't really care what she says either. Although I do, I think we should think about data centers. You know, a lot of American people, whether rightly or wrongly, they feel strongly about it, and the midterms are at stake. So I'm just wondering, you know, there are concerns about utility costs. I think that's legitimate. You know, there are rising costs. A lot of people can't afford it anymore. I'm not talking about the AI aspect. I'm talking about the energy costs associated with that. So maybe that's something to think about because American people are facing a cash crunch right now.
21:31Jordan, what do you make of the timing around this app? I mean, it seems to me they've sort of, they blew through everything else. We're through COVID. We're through BLM. The gender stuff's not working. Even the Palestine stuff, it started not working. It's working with their base, but that's it. It's become too anti-American. The average nominal Democrat is not buying it, I don't think. So they throw this story out there. And what's been strange to me is some Republicans who are usually pretty decent, I would say guys like Josh Hawley, are now trying to like cash in on this and being like, yes, let's regulate.
22:03But again, to all of our points, you're just handing the future to China. I agree. Too many people are obsessing over polls. They look at the polls. They see Americans have mixed views. And then they go into the intimate details of those polls. As for like Warren and Bernie, I think they're just instinctively tyrants. So when they see a very powerful technology, the first thing they think is, oh, hey, maybe we can just kind of like control all of it and then eliminate it, the use of it to the rest of America. So I think that's instinctively like why they always want to shut these things down, regulate it, control it, is because they really want to be in charge.
22:41And of course, we covered this yesterday on the show. This is the cover of Wednesday's New York Post revealed far left group that Silicon Valley wants to oversee our tech-led future, the woke wizards of AI. Lindy, I have no doubt that when you saw that cover, it did not surprise you that Omidai and all of these guys, that they're working with all of these lefty nonprofits and all of the bad, woke ideas we've been through. These are the people that they've decided to put in charge of the guardrails around AI. That's exactly right. And can we mention the fact that the dude that came out, Coxon, was at Anthropoc for, wait for it, two weeks?
23:20Yeah. Yeah. And the Wall Street Journal knew the story was coming. All these publications got a heads up. We have to be perfectly clear about this. This is a carefully orchestrated campaign. It wasn't a spontaneous event. It was orchestrated from above. And frankly, we don't have to throw the baby out with the bathwater. There are things that you can do. For example, implement export controls to ensure that China doesn't get that technology. You don't just stop. This is potentially a life-saving, world-changing technology. We don't just hand it over to our enemies. That makes no sense whatsoever.
23:54Jordan, my argument has been basically, okay, you guys want to regulate this thing. Well, then every single politician that signs on America having to regulate while other countries don't, then you don't get the cure for cancer when China cures cancer. And you don't get to get on the rocket ship or the cure for Alzheimer's or anything else. I think that might reverse course on this a little bit. I want to show you this video. This is Jason Kalkanis from the All In podcast on with Jesse Waters talking about the other part around this, which is, of course, regulatory capture and how they're trying to Bernie's basically, Bernie for the little guy, is actually trying to create a monopoly.
24:33And you alluded to this with Bernie Sanders getting into this and other folks. People, when they see a crisis like this, want to jump on it and they have agendas. And one of the agendas here is to do what's called regulatory capture, create a bunch of rules. So maybe these one or two companies can win the market. And then the smaller companies coming up or open source where anybody can own the technology, maybe they get regulated out of existence. How much of that do you think this is, Jordan, that it's simply like they don't. Well, they guess at some level they don't understand the technology.

25:07fine. But also they do what Lindy said, which is they just get scared. There's an impulse. And also they're just going to destroy competition. It's just as simple as that. It's really the standard playbook, this anti-competitive behavior. They want to lock in the duopoly. You know, there's all this open source stuff going on in AI right now that's super promising. And I think that they're a little bit alarmed about that. So you have Dario at Anthropic Sam at OpenAI that want to pull the ladder up behind them because, you know, they see the competition coming. But I think also, you know, there's that ideological component where, again, you know, they want to be the ones in charge of the AI future because they think that only, you know, themselves and their friends are enlightened enough to move us into that future that, you know, us commoner Americans are just too dumb to use these tools.
25:56So they need to show us how to use them properly. Let's just focus on China for just a second here. I mean, Lindy, Do you think that, you know, everyone's saying, OK, so you regulate the U.S., China just runs ahead. Do you think it's just factually true that China would have no reservations, regardless of what the warnings are, any of the sci-fi movies, that they're just going to run no matter what, for good or worse, for better or worse? That seems like the right answer to me. Yeah, absolutely. I still think we should consider the genesis of Chinese technology, which is America. They got everything from us.
26:30They run a second tier, slightly inferior version of what we have. So I think in addition to cultivating American investment and technology, we need to do everything we can to ensure that they can't back engineer or do whatever we can to steal our proprietary knowledge because they excel at that. We've got to safeguard our own know-how as closely as possible. That's where the tension should be, actually, to shore up America and advantage and ensure that it doesn't leak out Because right now, I mean, around the world, everything is from us. We are the source of all of this. Yeah. Jordan, I'm sure you saw the press conference that Bernie put on, that ridiculous thing with Steve Bannon.
27:11So it's like Bernie for two years has been screaming about Epstein. Now he's giving a conference, a press conference with Epstein's basically his best friend. China is not going to stop. But it's not just about China. In his legislation, Bernie said you'll get 20 years, in essence, if you knowingly do something with AI that is nefarious. They're going to have to arrest a whole bunch of 15-year-old kids who are going to be fiddling around in their room with this stuff. Yeah, they want to block off the technology entirely. But I will add that it's not just Bannon and Bernie. Randy Weingarten and Ashley Judd, the voices of incredible— Oh, Ashley Judd, too?
27:48I didn't know she was there. Yeah, so they're part of this coalition, basically funded by this Kamala Harris mega-donor, Dustin Moskowitz. Bannon's kind of like taking money from everyone these days. But they're part of this coalition that basically wants to stop, pause AI, and hand over all the authority to Anthropic and OpenAI, whose, you know, they've been, their fundlers, their handlers have invested in. So it's a really corrupt and like disgusting D.C. project that and Bernie, I think, is ideologically on board. But it's very confusing, this coalition. It makes no sense on purpose. Right.
28:26Lindy, since you were recently a Democrat, my heuristic with all these things at this point is if that Bernie, if Bernie and Elizabeth Warren and the rest of the Democrats are for something, I'm against it. And I think that that basically works every you will be on the right side of pretty much everything all the time. Right. And I want everyone to be aware of the talking points that came down from above this week. The reason why everyone is so coordinated and speaking with one voice right now is that they got the memo. They literally got the assignment from Barack Obama. He has spied this. He has detected and latched onto this as a newest midterm issue.
29:03They know they are in danger in some states and they want to see this as the wedge issue to defied Republicans. So I would be where instead of just like completely taking their arguments at face value, think about the political ramifications of this. And we're less than two months out and they're trying to scare the living daylights out of everybody. There's a political aim here. So to that point, Jordan, what do you think the proper response should be from the Republicans? I think Trump's statements have been great on this. I think he's got, you know, David Sachs out there making a lot of sense.
29:33I think largely, you know, J.D. is making the argument for you got to allow competition to exist. We have existing laws. If you guys release faulty or products that are going to kill people, et cetera, there are penalties already. Is there anything else they can do on messaging? Because I totally agree with Lindy. Like we have six weeks. They want the robots to go crazy. They desperately want a Tesla to have an accident or they want the Internet to shut off for 24 hours. They want something crazy to happen. How do the Republicans counter that messaging? Yeah, I think you follow President Trump's lead.
30:05You speak the truth. You say, do you want the future to be controlled by China or do you want it to be controlled by America? You know, we can't promise you, you know, sunshine and unicorns every day. And we are entering an era where there is a lot of unknowns. But, you know, the history of technological progress has shown us that it's led to lots of human flourishing and innovation and good stuff. And the Democrats are just leaning into the polls and they look at where the polls are. And then this is where their politics end up lying. But I think President Trump has courageously kind of ignored that.
30:36And he's like, said, I'm going to speak the truth. I'm going to be honest with the American people and the American people will end up supporting me because, you know, this is, I think, what's best for the country. Yeah, I really hope he sticks to his guns, because to me, this feels a little bit like the beginning of COVID, where he was anti-lockdown and everything else. And they kept ramping up the fear, kept ramping up the fear. And then he eventually caved. I think he's learned his lesson, but we shall see. I want to do one other thing with you guys, because, Lindy, I thought we'd hand you some red meat on today's show.
31:04This should be good for you because over on CNN, two regular guys, two guys just hanging out there. There happened to be cameras there, but they were just fly fishing buddies, Jake Tapper and Gavin Newsom. And they got into it as to whether Gav will run and would if Kamala runs, would that change the equation? Yeah, it's a lot of Democrats. 31 flavors. And you're not even the only Californian. No, right. Yeah. You got know if she runs but we'll see. I know she's called around. Yeah but I wouldn't run if she ran. If she runs you won't you will not? Of course not. Why would I? I wouldn't do that to her.
31:44I wouldn't do it to me. Why would I? I wouldn't do that to you. I wouldn't waste everyone's time. Who needs that? What do you mean? That doesn't even make sense to me. I just I wouldn't. No I wouldn't. First of all, electorally it's a gift from God for everybody else. They enjoy the hell out of mutual assured destruction. It services no greater good. I mean, you do whatever you want. I don't care. But like, but like counter argument would be like, you know, she had a shot. Yeah. And you've never run and she's she's run twice. Yeah. I mean, that would be the that'd be the approach to the campaign.
32:17Certainly that would be the case you'd make. Pretty good one. Actually, you can do whatever you want. I don't care. Well, then why are you fly fishing with that guy in an overly produced trying to pretend to be normal people video, Lindy. Jake just doesn't care. He doesn't. Why is he even there? He has no idea. He just loves fly fishing. And Gavin Newsom is very much running. That was pure manipulation right then and there. And sorry, I got to mention in my book, Unburdened, he would come to every donor event and pretend that he was there for Biden and then Kamala Harris. But no, he was there to poach donors.
32:56He has been running for that role for president in the United States probably since he was five years old. So there's no way in hell that he would just pass it along to Kamala Harris. He is signaling to especially the California donor base, the people who can raise tens of millions, that I plan to run, you should do everything to get her out. That is his signal. And also, you got to realize a lot of these donors are the same. In fact, they have some of the same staffers. So he's saying this is him, you know, basically planting his flag, saying it's me or her and you should do everything you can to pressure this two time loser at this point out of the race.
33:32Jordan, when we played this clip a couple of days ago, my commentary on it was basically what a crazy thing to say. If she runs, I won't run. First off, she lost last time. So there would be reason to run against her. But secondly, if you honestly believe you should be the president of the United States, then regardless of who is running, you would believe that you have the vision, you have the skill set, you have the machine behind you and the donors and everything else to just be like, oh, I just want to do it to be. You know, he just wants to be nice while he's five. It's just so inauthentic and evil from that lizard person.
34:06Yeah, he's just a nice guy. He doesn't go after his political opponents behind the scenes and tax people on them. It's crazy. I think what he's subtly saying basically is that if Kamala Harris shows up to my coming out running for president party, it's going to ruin everything. So she better not do so. I think that's what he's trying to tell Jake. But it's just like you watch a clip and it's so laughably inauthentic. There was a picture circulating on X. I don't know if it's true, but it's like all like the CNN crew right to the side. Oh, we got to find that. We'll throw it in here. If it's legit, we'll throw it in.
34:43Yeah. Yeah. But it's just it's so inauthentic and sleazy. It's perfectly on brand for Governor Newsom. Yeah. Let me show you one other clip around this, because one of the things that Gavin obviously is going to have to do when he runs is he has to run away from all of the bad, obviously bad policies he's instituted. Here he is on some COVID stuff. Well, I mean, I think it's used right now very much as a cudgel to attack people. But the truth of the matter is that a lot of people made mistakes during COVID. And you see Governor Newsom there, I think sincerely, most sincerely with that sigh, thinking about how much he regrets the schools closing and that there wasn't more that was done to reopen them.
35:38We see the damage that closing the schools obviously did to kids when it comes to education. So that was obviously Jake analyzing the Newsom commentary. I mean, again, why is Jake running cover for this guy? He obviously regrets it. Like, he was. I lived through it. I fought to recall that MF-er. Like, I think he only regrets it in that it's cost him a little bit politically right now. I think he loved the hell out of every second of it, Lindy. And Dave, you know what this is giving? This is giving AOC. Woke One was a mistake. Yes. Now they're saying COVID response was a mistake. Guys, I mean, everyone should thank their neighborhood conspiracy theorists because they turned out to be true.
36:20Every one of them, with Fauci, everything, it turned out to be true. We're coming for a full circle. Everyone who said that we were lying about Ilhan Omar, we turned out to be right. So I'm awaiting our apology, frankly. And even when I was in the Democratic Party, I went up against people like Gavin Newsom, who was obviously a snake oil salesman, and people like AOC, and they attacked me for it. And these people, they are the dregs of society, frankly. And if we follow their lead, our country is going to go off a cliff. Jordan, I think perhaps the nicest thing I can say about Gavin and all, you know, he did all the bad stuff with COVID and homelessness and he's pushing companies out.
37:03And now Paramount wants to leave all this stuff is that I don't think he's a full jihadist yet, which is where a lot of the other Democrats are. and maybe that would be the saving grace with this guy. I'm trying really hard for some reason. Yeah, you know, if I were a Republican running for president, I don't think that Gavin Newsom would be the first choice of the guy I want to run up against. I think he probably has the most upside. So Tapper is just going to kiss his behind because he can set himself up to be the Gavin Newsom presidency whisperer with all the access. So he'll just sell it as much as possible in his new homey Americana studio.
37:40He'll do whatever it takes to be in the good graces of this man. Guys, as always, I have thoroughly enjoyed this. And Lindy's new book, Unburdened, comes out this Tuesday. The link is down below. You guys should sign up for Jordan's sub stack. It's called The Dossier. Link also down below. We're quite a professional operation around here. Guys, thanks for joining us. Have a great weekend. Thank you so much, Steve.
