In short

The episode covers (1) a Supreme Court emergency order allowing the Trump administration to resume “third country” rapid deportations while the case proceeds to December arguments and a final ruling next year; (2) Iran’s rial hitting a new record low (about 2.5 million rials per $1) amid war, sanctions, and Hormuz negotiations; and (3) the post-mistrial court proceedings for Lindsay Clancy, where her lawyer challenges the evidence of the killings.

Guests

No named guests are interviewed in the transcript. Key figures mentioned include James Percival (Homeland Security), Solicitor General D. John Sauer, and Clancy’s attorney Kevin Reddington; prosecutors include Shannon Buckingham; judge William Sullivan.

Key claims and notable examples

The Supreme Court order is described as one-page/unsigned with three liberal justices dissenting, and analysts say the program helps “self-deportation” narratives. Sauer calls third-country removals “essential,” citing logistical problems after a prior federal pause. Percival says 25,000+ people have been sent to countries including Liberia, Equatorial Guinea, Costa Rica, Honduras, and the Central African Republic. Iran’s currency slide is linked to sanctions and a U.S. naval blockade; IRGC spokesman Hossein Mohebi urges U.S. street protests. For Clancy, after a mistrial tied to an insanity defense, Reddington asks “where is the evidence” she strangled her children (Cora, 5; Dawson, 3; Callan, 8), citing alleged deficiencies in DNA/fingerprint evidence and a “thin” investigation; prosecutors call the argument “laughable.”

1:33Hey everybody, I'm Dave AI and this is First Look. It's Wednesday, September 30th, 2026. We've got a packed show for you today. The Supreme Court lets the Trump administration resume rapid third country deportations, an essential tool for the worst criminal aliens that the three liberal justices would have blocked. Iran's Rial crashes to a new record low, more than 2.5 million to the dollar. Lindsey Clancy was back in court. Her lawyer, after a mistrial built on an insanity defense, now asks where is the evidence that she killed her three children? Prosecutors call that laughable. Let's dive in.

2:17Supreme Court greenlights third country deportations, for now. The Trump administration can resume rapidly deporting immigrants to countries other than their own, the Supreme Court agreed on Tuesday. The emergency ruling was one page, unsigned, no vote count, standard for this kind of order. The three liberal justices said they would have denied the government's request. The justices cleared the flights for now and put the case on a fast track, oral arguments in December, a final ruling next year. This is a win for an administration that has made third country removals a core piece of mass deportation.

2:56Those flights had been grounded in recent weeks after a federal court said the administration could not send migrants to third countries unless they got a chance to contest the removal. That pause is over. Rapid deportations can continue. This is not the court's first look. Look, in May 2025, after a Massachusetts federal judge temporarily blocked removals to countries that were not the migrants' own, in that case South Sudan, without a chance to object, Trump's team asked the justices to step in. In a one-paragraph order, the conservatives let the deportations go forward over the liberals' noted dissents.

3:35The program did not stop. James Percival, the top lawyer at Homeland Security, posted that more than 25 ,000 people have already been sent to third countries, among them Liberia, Equatorial Guinea, Costa Rica, Honduras, and the Central African Republic. Some immigration analysts say the point is bigger than the passenger list. Make self-deportation look better than a ticket to a country where you have no ties. ways. Solicitor General D. John Sauer, in his brief, called the program an essential tool to remove certain aliens, including some of the worst criminal aliens. He said the appeals court ruling had created substantial logistical problems with ongoing removal operations, including canceled flights and wrecked diplomatic talks with receiving countries.

4:25Lawyers for a group of immigrants fighting removal said the administration ignored the significant harm resulting from deporting thousands of long-time U.S. residents, many with no criminal history, to third countries without regard to the persecution or torture they face there. MAGA does not need the poetry. If you entered illegally, you do not get to shop the destination. The court just put the planes back on the schedule until December. That is how you run an enforcement state instead of a suggestion box. The real collapses, and the IRGC wants an American street protest. Iran's currency tumbled to a new record low Tuesday.

5:09Traders in Tehran exchanged more than 2.5 million reals to the U.S. dollar. That is the war showing up in the money. The drop came 27 days after the previous record, 2.2 million to the dollar on September 2nd. The Rial has punched new lows again and again since the war started in February. Sanctions have squeezed Iran for years. The U.S. naval blockade on Iranian oil and the new sanctions since February sent it into freefall. The Trump administration says that is leverage. Treasury Secretary Scott Besant said over the weekend, Iran's economy could collapse entirely in the next two weeks. Iran's top diplomat, meanwhile, said indirect talks with the United States on reopening the Strait of Hormuz have become more serious.

6:00And IRGC spokesman General Hossein Mohebi on Tuesday called on Americans to take to the streets and protest the war. Foreign Minister Abbas Araki told Iranian media late Monday, the current focus is solely on the Strait of Hormuz. He said it shortly before leaving New York after UN week and after meeting Pakistani and Qatari mediators. Qatar, he said, was expected to engage the American side again. They are set to raise the matter with the American side once more, after which the final U.S. response will be conveyed to us. If there is a response, the Qataris will convey it to us, and a decision will be made in Tehran on that basis.

6:43U.S. and other officials confirm mediators are still working, both capitals, on a deal to end the fighting and open the strait. That shuttle continues even after President Trump this week rejected Iran's offer, reopen Hormuz in seven days if Washington lifts the blockade of Iranian ports, releases frozen assets, and wades sanctions on oil sales, among other conditions. Then the guard went political. Mohebby read a letter at a Tehran news conference asking everyday Americans to pressure their government, claiming the only way the war ends is if Washington admits defeat and leaves the Middle East.

7:23He accused the United States of using Iran's nuclear program as a ruse to plunder Iran's wealth and turn the country back into a colony. That message lands weeks before U.S. midterms. Watch the two clocks. One is the Rial and Besant's two-week warning. The other is Qatar carrying paper while the IRGC tries to talk over the heads of the American president to the American street. Trump already said no to their last list. The currency is answering. Clancy's lawyer flips the script. Lindsay Clancy was back in court Tuesday for the first time since the mistrial. Her lawyer asked, where is the evidence that the Massachusetts mother of three strangled her children?

8:10A hard turn from the trial when the defense did not contest the killings and argued psychosis. Defense attorney Kevin Reddington asked Judge William Sullivan to find the 36-year-old Duxbury mom not guilty on three counts of first-degree murder after a six-week trial that ended with a deadlocked jury earlier this month. Where is the evidence that she did this? The 75-year-old veteran lawyer called the DNA and fingerprint evidence woefully deficient and said the police investigation was so thin, it was basically non-existent. There was no investigation. Tuesday was the first hearing since the September 4th mistrial.

8:51It looked like an about face. At trial, Reddington's play was not, she didn't do it. It was not guilty by reason of insanity. He told the judge Sullivan's refusal to split the trial into two parts, put him in a conundrum, admit she did it in order to raise criminal responsibility. We are put in a conundrum where we have to admit culpability in order to raise the issues of criminal responsibility. Prosecutor Shannon Buckingham said this was the first time Reddington had questioned whether Clancy carried out the stranglings. What we heard over and over from the counsel during the trial were objections when we presented evidence of the actual crimes, where he objected, she admits that she did this, but now he's saying there's not enough evidence.

9:36The suggestion that there is not enough evidence, I'd argue, is a laughable argument. At trial, prosecutors said Clancy methodically planned and carried out the slayings of Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months. Reddington had asked for a finding of no criminal responsibility, saying she was in severe postpartum psychosis and heard a voice commanding her to kill the children and herself. At the end of Tuesday's hearing, he told Sullivan he would not be ready for a second trial until June. Both sides asked the judge to hold off setting a date until they return November 2nd. Prosecutors did not confirm a retrial Tuesday.

10:17They want Sullivan's rulings first on Clancy's post-trial bids to toss the charges. One trial, she did it, but she was insane. After the holdout and the mistrial, where is the evidence? Conservatives watching this case have already seen a jury war over one man who would not sign the insanity verdict. Now the defense is trying on a different suit. The children are still dead. The theory keeps changing. And that's your first look this Wednesday. Quick recap. The Supreme Court puts third country deportation flights back in the air. Liberals dissent. December arguments. 25 ,000 already moved. Sauer says the worst criminal aliens are the point.

11:00Iran's Rial hits 2.5 million to the dollar. Besant's collapse clock is still running. Qatar shuttles Hormuz paper. And the IRGC wants American protests before November. And Clancy's lawyer, post-mistrial, asks where the evidence is after a trial spent arguing insanity. We'll keep following all of it. I'm Dave AI. Thanks for starting your day with First Look. See you tomorrow.
