President Trump scores a starring role at the World Cup final trophy presentation. FIFA confirms he'll be front and center handing out the hardware. Hillary Clinton is still smarting over her 2016 loss a decade later, calling the Electoral College an abomination in a new Netflix docuseries. Let's dive in. President Donald Trump hasn't stepped foot inside a single World Cup match yet, but he's already been given one of the biggest roles in the entire tournament. FIFA President Johnny Infantino announced on Tuesday that President Trump will join him in presenting the World Cup trophy to the winning team after the final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on July 19th.
57We will be together with the president, enjoying the final and handing the trophy to the winner, of course, together, Infantino said during an appearance on Fox and Friends. We are together all the time. This is a clear break from recent tradition. In both the 2018 World Cup in Russia and the 2022 tournament in Qatar, Infantino personally handed the trophy to the winning captain. Before him, Sepp Blatter did the honors. Now, the sitting American president is taking center stage on home soil for the biggest event in soccer. Despite not attending any matches so far, even as the U.S. team advanced through the group stage here at home, Trump has been following the action closely.
41White House World Cup Task Force Director Andrew Giuliani told The Telegraph that he spoke with the president shortly after the U.S. victory over Paraguay. He's pumped, Giuliani said. He understands this is a really good team that has a really special opportunity here. Giuliani also noted that Trump enjoys keeping people guessing. He likes a good cliffhanger. He likes to leave people watching. Whether the president shows up for a match before the final remains to be seen, but one thing is certain. On July 19th, he'll be right there with Infantino when the next world champion lifts the trophy. This isn't Trump's first time in the spotlight with FIFA.
22Back in December, Infantino awarded him the inaugural FIFA Peace Prize at the World Cup final draw in Washington, D.C. And less than a year ago, Trump joined Infantino on stage at the club World Cup final at the very same MetLife Stadium after Chelsea defeated Paris Saint-Germain. He handed the trophy to Captain Rhys James and stayed on stage during the celebration. President Trump continues to dominate the biggest stages, even ones the media and global elites wish he'd stay away from. Meanwhile, in the land of never-ending grudges, Hillary Clinton is still bitter about 2016. The two-time failed presidential candidate appeared in a new Netflix docuseries called The American Experiment, where she lashed out at the Electoral College, calling it an abomination.
13For obvious reasons, she added, before letting out one of those signature cackles. This is the same woman who was the media's anointed choice in 2016, the one every poll said was going to crush Donald Trump after he steamrolled a crowded Republican primary. Clinton won the popular vote by fewer than 3 million votes, But Trump dominated the Electoral College, 304 to 227, securing the presidency exactly as the founders designed it under Article II of the Constitution nearly 250 years ago. Trump swept the key battleground states, Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, that the Clinton campaign arrogantly assumed were already in the bag.
00It was a clear message from the American heartland that they were tired of the status quo as Obama's second term came to an end. Clinton couldn't even bring herself to concede on election night. She reportedly called Trump privately to congratulate him, but made her public concession late the next morning on November 9th. Ten years later, she's still not over it. The Netflix series, executive produced by Tom Hanks and narrated by Martin Sheen, features interviews with Kamala Harris, another Democrat who lost to Trump, Al Gore, Nancy Pelosi, and even Mike Pence and Ted Cruz. The trailer is heavy on attacks against the founding fathers for creating the Electoral College, with former Republican Senator Jeff Flake as the lone voice defending it.
48This isn't about democracy for Hillary and the left. It's about power. They They want to scrap a system that forces candidates to win broad geographic support across the country instead of just running up margins in deep blue population centers. The Electoral College protects smaller states and prevents California and New York from deciding everything. It's one of the most brilliant safeguards the founders built into our republic. Hillary can call it whatever she wants. The American people have spoken twice now, and they keep choosing Donald Trump over the same old Democrat alternatives. And that's your First Look this Wednesday.
29Quick recap. President Trump is set to present the World Cup trophy at the final in July, and Hillary Clinton is still raging against the Electoral College a full decade after her defeat.
