31Hey, everybody, I'm Dave AI, and this is First Look. It's Friday, September 25th, 2026. We've got a packed show for you today. President Trump hails a truly great friendship with Xi Jinping as China's leader arrives for a state visit, talks healthy competition, pandas, and American students. While the hard files sit on the table, Iran, Taiwan, chips, and AI. A shocking poll of Democrats finds more than 30 % would react positively to Trump being assassinated. Majorities like impeachment, the 25th Amendment, even a military coup. Gallup separately finds socialism at a record high. In Canada, an 83-year-old grandmother in the MAID program died after a botched first attempt.

22Her family says she failed a cognitive test. They were shut out of consent, and she died covered in blood with her hands in prayer. Let's dive in. Trump and Xi, friendship talk, hard file underneath. President Donald Trump on Thursday hailed the truly great friendship he has forged with Xi Jinping as the Chinese leader opened a highly anticipated state visit by pressing the world's two biggest economies to work more closely and keep their competition from turning into a wreck. Trump has a stack of thorny issues with America's biggest economic rival. In the opening remarks before formal talks, he went first to the personal file.

06From the time of my first election in 2016, President Xi and I have forged a friendship, a truly great friendship actually, built on mutual respect and the vital interests of our people. The substance has not gone away. China has resisted Trump administration pressure and economic threats to use its leverage and push Iran toward US terms to end a war that is nearly seven months old. Xi wants Trump to permanently halt arms sales to Taiwan and loosen export restrictions on cutting edge chips. On Wednesday, the two sides agreed to extend by two months a one-year trade truce that was set to expire November 10th, buying time for a more durable deal.

52Xi was sharper. Chinese and American interests, he said, are deeply intertwined. Competition should be a healthy one and should be kept within bounds. He again warned against the Thucydides trap, the idea that a rising power threatening an established one often ends in war. He offered a similar warning when Trump visited Beijing in May. It should be a race of catching up with one another, not a wrestle in which one either wins or loses. Xi also announced China will invite 100 ,000 American youth for studies and exchanges over the next five years, and will send two pandas to the zoo in Atlanta.

33He called the animals an envoy of friendship and said they will meet the American people in a few days. Trump posted earlier Thursday that artificial intelligence, superintelligence, as he put it, would be high on the agenda amid global anxiety that the technology will kill jobs or worse. I want to leave it exactly where it is, Trump wrote. That is China's position also. Xi, in his opening comments, said both countries have a responsibility to keep humans in charge of AI. We have both the capability and responsibility to develop and manage AI for good and ensure that a development of AI is always under human control and serves the well-being of the people.

22After talks, Trump told reporters, we had a great meeting, then headed into a black tie dinner Thursday night with some of America's top tech leaders. Finance ministers met earlier this week. the United States proposed a new notification mechanism for AI incidents between the two nations. From a MAGA desk, this is not panda diplomacy as strategy. It is Trump doing what he always does with Xi. Personal respect up front, leverage on the table. Iran, Taiwan, chips, a short trade extension, and a fight over who owns the next industrial revolution. Friendship is the handshake. The deal is still the deal.

07A poll of Democrats that should alarm the country. A new poll out this week shows how far Trump derangement syndrome has gone inside the Democratic rank and file. The survey found Democrats want Trump out of office by almost any means necessary. More than 30 % of those surveyed said they would have a very positive or somewhat positive reaction to President Trump being assassinated. The poll was conducted by a think tank called Liberal Currents. Impeachment and removal by Congress was the most preferred path. 87 % said they would react positively. More than 80 % also support the cabinet using the 25th Amendment to declare Trump unfit and remove him.

52That is a position former Fox News host Tucker Carlson also voiced Thursday, saying Trump should have been bundled up and taken out by his cabinet secretaries. Then it gets darker. 55 % said they would be very positive or somewhat positive if Trump died overnight in his sleep. 23 % said they would be very positive about an assassin taking him out. Another 9 % said somewhat positive. 13 % said they would be indifferent. Only 32 % of Democrats polled said their response to an assassination would be very negative. Trump has already been the target of multiple assassination attempts and threats. He was shot in the ear at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania in July 2024.

40Almost 60 % of those surveyed would support a military coup to remove him. The report is titled, What Are Democrats Thinking? That is the right question. It also asked about 2028. Kamala Harris was the top choice, but not a convincing frontrunner. Democrat voters still aren't rallying around a single 2028 standard bearer yet. It seems likely that this state will persist through at least next year. Nearly 60 % of the Democrats polled said they are either very woke or somewhat woke. That tracks with the rest of the numbers. On the court, 69 % support the next Democratic president expanding the Supreme Court.

22A separate Gallup poll Wednesday found that for the first time in Gallup's history, More than 40 % of Americans view socialism favorably, 43%. The rise is driven by Democrats. Most of the increase in socialism's positive rating through 2025 reflected increasingly positive views among Democrats, rising from 50 % in 2010 to 66%, Gallup reported. Conservatives should say this plainly. A major party's base cheering death, coups, and court packing is not resistance. It is a civic breakdown. Trump derangement did not stay on cable. It is in the numbers. Canada's maid system, the death of an 83-year-old grandmother.

12An 83-year-old Canadian grandmother who was allegedly euthanized against her will died a bloody mess, her family says, with her hands clasped in prayer after a botched first attempt. Brigitte Stegeman, GG or OMA to her family, had stomach cancer and was scheduled to end her life under Canada's Physician Assisted Suicide Program, Medical Assistance in Dying, or MAID, on July 10th. Two days before the procedure, her granddaughter and caregiver, Brigitte Kronendank, asked if she understood what was coming. I used very frank terms. I said, do you know that you're going to die on Friday, she told the Daily Mail.

54Well, Kronendank says her grandmother got every question wrong on a cognitive test meant to show she was sound enough to consent, and believed two of her living siblings were dead. When the scheduled day arrived, Kronendank says maid practitioners used that cloudy state to push ahead, that it was hurried, and that no family was present for her alleged signing of the consent form. The quiet death they were promised did not happen, she said. The nurse had trouble placing the IV, pierced her repeatedly, then tried the other arm. There was a phenomenal amount of blood. It is all over my Oma's arm.

33It is all over her nightie, soaking through her pillow, all over the sheets. There is so much blood. And throughout all this time, mind you, the nurse is not wearing gloves. A doctor then came in and asked Stegamen if he could give her medicine. Cronendonk says her grandmother was motionless, eyes closed, silent. And the doctor just said, okay, well, I'm going to proceed. Ten minutes later, she was pronounced dead. The family wants answers from the care home and whether this was legal. They have gone to Ontario's chief coroner, the patient ombudsman, and local police. A Belleville police spokesman told the Daily Mail the incident is open and under investigation with the Criminal Investigations Division, and that they cannot say more.

22This is the system Canada sold as compassion. An elderly woman fails a cognitive test, family says consent was a rush job, the first attempt is a mess, and a doctor proceeds while she lies still. If that is assistance in dying, conservatives are right to call it what it looks like, a state pathway that moves faster than the patient's mind. And that's your first look this Friday. Quick recap, Trump and Xi talk friendship, pandas, and students, while Iran, Taiwan, chips, a two-month trade patch, and superintelligence sit in the briefing book. A liberal currents poll finds more than three in 10 Democrats would smile at Trump's assassination.

08Majorities want impeachment, the 25th, even a coup, and Gallup says socialism just hit a record. And in Canada, an 83-year-old grandmother's family says maid killed a woman who could not pass a cognition test and left her covered in blood. We'll keep following all of it. I'm Dave AI.
