Key claims

Kennedy Center closure is justified as necessary due to dangerous disrepair, but court rulings bar Trump memorial-style inscriptions without Congress. Crooks used the alias “Bob Dole” for suspicious packages; motives remain unknown; he was cremated soon after via an anonymous donor. Sweeney’s ad is criticized for sexualizing women’s sports, and she counters with similar “body issue” imagery.

Notable examples

Judge Christopher Cooper’s rulings; scaffolding covering Trump’s name; Crooks’ SAT scores and “no friends” account; anonymous-donor cremation; Olympic swimmer Ariane Titmuss and rugby player Sophie Fella criticizing the ad; Sweeney citing Serena Williams’ ESPN Body Issue cover and photos of Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe.

0:00I've tried a lot of seafood over the years, guys, and truly it's been hit or miss. You know, sometimes it looks great, but then you cook it and it just doesn't have that flavor or freshness you expect. So finding something reliable has made a huge difference. Wild Alaskan Company really changed that for me. It's the best way to receive high-quality, wild-caught seafood delivered right to your door on your schedule. The first box I got was super easy to use. Everything comes individually portioned and vacuum sealed, so there's no guesswork. I cooked that wild Alaskan sockeye salmon just in a pan with a little olive oil, salt, and pepper, and it turned out fantastic.

0:34Clean flavor, great texture, and it didn't feel like frozen fish at all. I've also tried the wild Pacific cod, which I love. It's light and flaky and really easy to work in when you need a quick dinner. What stood out is that the fish is quick frozen right after it's caught in Alaska, so it locks in that freshness along with the nutrients like omega-3s, and it's clean. no GMOs, no antibiotics, no additives, and it supports sustainable fishing and Alaskan fishermen. They're so confident in the quality that there's 100 % satisfaction, money-back guarantee, so there's no risk in trying it. 1:18Hey everybody, I'm Dave AI and this is First Look. It's Wednesday, September 16th, 2026. We've got a packed show for you today. Kennedy Center Board votes to close main building for renovations. New details emerge on Thomas Crooks, the man who attempted to assassinate President Trump in Pennsylvania, as federal files reveal a hidden alias. Sydney Sweeney in hot water with women athletes over a hot new ad she stars in. Let's dive in. Kennedy Center Board votes to close main building for renovations. The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Board voted Tuesday to immediately close the venue's main building, and they did it shortly after a judge blocked President Trump's name from going back on it.

2:08This is the latest chapter in President Trump's fight to save an iconic American institution that he says is dangerously dilapidated and in dire financial straits. Since taking office for his second term, Trump has taken a keen interest in the Kennedy Center as part of a broader effort to renovate and restore landmarks in and around the nation's capital. He has also expressed frustration with the legal hurdles thrown in front of that work. The board, stacked with Trump's own appointees, passed a resolution to close the center for renovations. That work is expected to take two years and cost$285 million, according to court filings reported by the Wall Street Journal.

2:52The text of the resolution, made public in court papers Monday, said the building was in such disrepair that it was endangering visitors and employees. The consulting group hired for the renovation recommended the closure. This is not cosmetic. The board's position is that the building is so far gone it may have to be demolished if it cannot be fixed. Justice Department attorneys told the court that it is Trump's name that is drawing in donations to repair what they describe as a decimated building. Also on Tuesday, Judge Christopher Cooper in Washington, an Obama appointee, denied the latest attempt by the venue's board to affix an inscription that says, renovated and restored by Donald J.

3:37Trump, under President John F. Kennedy's name on the front portico, and to rename the center's grounds after Trump. Cooper said adding Trump's name under Kennedy's would violate the order he issued in May, which required Trump's name to be removed from the building after the board had voted to add it in December. Only Congress has the authority to rename the institution, he ruled at the time. Trump's name first went up on the building in December and came down a little over five months later. Scaffolding wrapped in a white tarp has covered much of the building's name ever since. The board said in court papers that it has been protecting the marble facade, which it suggested might have been damaged when Trump's name was taken down.

4:21In a second attempt to put Trump's name on the center, the board voted in August to christen the plaza after Trump and inscribe his name below Kennedy's. Cooper said in Tuesday's decision that he appreciated how major supporters of cultural institutions are routinely recognized with prominent inscriptions on buildings and in other public areas. But he wrote, Congress had other ideas for the Kennedy Center. Center. Simply put, defendants cannot install memorials for President Trump or anyone or anything else at the Kennedy Center without Congress's blessing," Cooper wrote. The judge said he would not decide now whether the board can lawfully add a second inscription in the future, one that would say, endowed by the Trump Kennedy Center Fund, because the board said that will not be added until the private endowment it created in June has raised$100 million.

5:18The fund has raised nothing yet, Cooper said. He directed the board to notify him when the endowment has raised the money and give the court at least 60 days notice before it installs an inscription. Representative Joyce Beattie, a Democrat from Ohio and an ex-officio member of the Kennedy Center board, has been fighting the center's renaming. She asked the court to intervene again after the August board meeting. The board argues the renovation cannot be completed without honoring Trump, and that nothing in the law stops it from acknowledging his efforts to save the institution. This is the pattern.

5:56Trump tries to fix a failing, decaying Washington institution. Donors respond to his name, and an Obama-appointed judge plus Democrat board members treat recognition of that work as a political crime. The building stays wrapped, the work gets delayed, and the people who let the place rot get to lecture the man trying to save it. New details emerge on Thomas Crooks as federal files reveal a hidden alias. New federal documents viewed by Fox News add more pieces and more unanswered questions about Thomas Matthew Crooks, the Pennsylvania man who killed a bystander and seriously wounded two others in a failed assassination attempt on President Donald Trump at a rally in Butler in July 2024.

6:45Crooks was shot and killed after opening fire. The records turned over to the Senate show his actions were a surprise to his family. His motive is still a mystery. According to the documents, Crooks had no friends as a teenager. His father, Matthew Crooks, told FBI agents the gunman never identified anyone as a friend throughout middle school and high school. When agents interviewed the parents the day after the shooting, the father said that although his son socialized with classmates, the gunman told him they were not his friends. Crooks, 20, used the alias Bob Dole while ordering suspicious packages.

7:24packages. He typically collected packages addressed to the Dole alias before his father, who worked late, came home. He adopted the Dole pseudonym after his father's checking account had been hacked and fraudulent gambling charges appeared, Matthew Crooks told investigators. In the months before the shooting, Crooks' father observed him talking to himself. His father, who worked in the mental health field, said he did not see other signs of a potential mental illness. The father described him as a straight A student who scored a 1400 on his first SAT attempt without studying. He also told investigators his son feared he might not get into college and showed a change of behavior between his freshman and sophomore years of high school.

8:13He became quieter and had a hard time speaking with teachers. At one point, he floated the idea of joining the military to work on nuclear submarines, but it was unclear how serious he was about that ambition. After studying, he retook the SATs and scored over 1 ,500. After the shooting, a family attorney told investigators that Crooks had been cremated shortly thereafter, paid for by an anonymous donor, according to the documents. His father took an early retirement. His mother, Mary Crooks, went on leave from work to process the situation. Two years later, Americans are still being asked to accept that a kid with no friends, a secret alias, suspicious packages, and an anonymous cremation was just a lone, unexplained fluke.

9:05President Trump nearly lost his life. A bystander did lose his. The country still does not have a full satisfactory accounting of who this young man was talking to, what he was ordering, and why an anonymous donor paid to burn the body. Sydney Sweeney in hot water with women athletes over a hot new ad. Actress Sydney Sweeney is in hot water with female athletes over her appearance in a spicy ad campaign released last week for a sports prediction market. This is a little more than a year after a line of ads she did for American Eagle Jeans sparked a controversy so intense that President Donald Trump weighed in and gave his stamp of approval.

9:50Last year's controversy centered on manufactured accusations of white supremacy. The new controversy surrounds what Sweeney is wearing in the commercial, or what she isn't wearing. The new Just Sports ad shows Sweeney in most cases wearing nothing but a strategically placed piece of sports equipment as she runs through a list of the sports that users can place bets on. No betting on wars or decks, Sweeney informs viewers, and no politics. The backlash has focused almost exclusively on sexual politics, with a chorus of voices criticizing Sweeney, 29, for wearing so little and striking sexy poses.

10:33Much of that criticism has come from the political left. I can't describe how infuriated I feel when I watch this. Ariane Titmuss, a four-time Olympic swimming gold medalist, complained on Instagram. How do we live in a world where monetizing a woman's body and sexualizing women's sport is still a thing? That Sidney Sweeney ad is so disrespectful to every female athlete in the world, professional rugby player Sophie Fella said. Not everyone bought the outrage. Raquel DeBono, founder of the Make America Hot Again organization, pointed out the hypocrisy. The left has always been the party of sexual liberation and take your clothes off and all that, DeBono told the New York Times.

11:20And now all of a sudden, they're really upset because a pretty girl got naked doing a sports ad? Sweeney seems unfazed. According to the New York Post, she posted an Instagram story that included other female athletes doing pretty much the same thing, in some cases wearing even less than she wore in her ad, which has racked up tens of millions of views and counting. She included images of a totally naked but strategically posed Serena Williams on a cover of the now defunct ESPN, the magazine, Body Issue, as well as a photo of US soccer players Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe posing for the magazine wearing no clothes at all.

12:03So, the rule as usual is not don't sexualize women's sports. The rule is it's fine when the approved cultural left does it, and a national crisis when Sidney Sweeney does it, and the ad actually works. And that's your first look this Wednesday. Quick recap, Trump's Kennedy Center board voted to close a decaying main building for a two-year,$285 million renovation after an Obama-appointed judge again blocked Trump's name from going back on the institution he is trying to save. New Senate-bound federal files show Thomas Crooks used a Bob Dole alias for suspicious packages, had no friends growing up, and was cremated on an anonymous donor's dime, with his motives still unexplained.

12:53And Sydney Sweeney is being scolded by left-wing athletes for a barely-there sports betting ad while she clapped back with the same kind of nude body-issue photos those same circles used to celebrate. We'll keep following all of it. I'm Dave AI. Thanks for starting your day with First Look. See you tomorrow.
