0:39There are they? Okay, there we go. Come on down, sister.

0:45Where's Carolla? Where's Carolla? I'm behind you. There he is. All right, my man. All right, first off, I want everybody in just a second, particularly to give Jillian a big round of applause because she, she cannot believe how great it is here in Florida. She, she literally at dinner sat there slack jawed the entire time going, it works. It works somewhere. I can't believe it. And of course, Adam, I wanted you to be here because you're the only person on planet Earth who hates Gavin Newsom more than me I do, I think I do Yeah, I do I think I do You do? All right, Jillian, let's start with you Let's start with you because you have a very similar political journey as I do You were of the left for years I now, on our other show, Actual Friends with Dr.

1:42Drew and Sage Steele I'm always poking you like, stop being a guilty lib Come on, these Republicans aren't so bad. But you had a huge wake up, largely around COVID. And now you are amongst friends here in the free state of Florida.

2:01So tell us, what's it like to be a white supremacist? Well, you make great friends. So honestly, it felt a bit like Neo and the Matrix at first. because I really did think that when you're on the left, like you're the empathetic one. You're the good guy. You're the one that cares about people. And I happened to marry a conservative who let me know that that wasn't the case in very many fights early on in our relationship. And then, of course, I started to watch the world invert. And all of a sudden, up was down, right was left, literally. And being obese became beautiful and healthy. And then COVID happened.

2:47And that was another crazy moment for me. And then I started to learn that all the news I had been ingesting was a lie. COVID did not come from a bat in a wet market. And it just, Russia, Russia, Russia wasn't real. And once that happens, I was watching a clip of Rogan. And he's like, I now don't think we went to the moon. and I think that Michelle Obama has a penis. And it's like, this is, you just, I'm like, this makes sense to me. Well, one of those two is right. You decide. Uh-oh, oh, we got it. So I have a question for you too, because you're both uniquely qualified to answer this and I don't mean to hijack the show.

3:27But I do talk to Dr. Drew about this a lot, which is, it's so blatantly obvious what is going on now. and especially if you live in California and you see the decay and you see the decline and you remember what it was and you know what it is now. And so Dr. Drew and I speak constantly and we're always like, why don't the people who vote Democrat admit it and understand it? And then who are the people that are able to understand it, admit it, and change course sort of midlife? Because I come from a group of diehard Democrats and they would never change their mind. And I know a lot of Hollywood types that are that way, but what is it about you two specifically, you know, you didn't change your mind when you were in college.

4:20You changed your mind as adults. How is it that you're able to do that and others are not able to do that. Now it's obvious for you guys, because you just see the evidence, but how come others can't do that? Well, I can't speak for others, but I mean, almost everyone in this room knows the exact moment when I switched. And it was when Larry Elder beat me senseless with facts about, you know, policing and white supremacy and systemic racism and all this stuff. and that video got put up and you know the next day it's being clipped and it's getting it's literally getting 10 20 50 million views and all the titles say the exact same thing black conservative destroys white libtard and when you're that white libtard it's not that funny and and then i just started talking to people i just started talking to people that i thought were the bad guys shapiro prager jordan all the people that i now know were the good guys and they were kinder and more decent and everything else.

5:26And also, unlike you, I'm not friends with Jimmy Kimmel. So it was easy for me to, you knew, you knew there had to be one. There had to be one, but you, all right. So you, you still live there. You still live in Cali. I remember you coming to my house at the height of COVID. We're having one of our illegal parties. You said I made the best steak that you had ever had not you your husband well whatever same name it's very confusing it certainly is yeah i'm also not gate till 10 what time is it guys no i got a few minutes okay um but you're there you're fighting you're still there obviously malibu you live in malibu so you were around the entire fire i mean what in the you think there's any chance this thing comes back.

6:18Why didn't you move here? I don't think so. So what I always said was what the popular answer around California, and I grew up in LA, was when are we going to change course? And the answer is when we hit rock bottom. And then I always said, why do we have to hit rock bottom? If you had a teenage son and your teenage son was getting DUIs and getting arrested and he found heroin syringes in his nightstand, why would you need him to flatline before you got him into rehab? Why not just get him into rehab now before he flatlines? Why do we have to call an ambulance? Let's help him. We're adults, you know?

7:05So that was always kind of my answer. And then the fires hit. And then I thought, maybe this is our rock bottom. Maybe this is us burning to the ground. Maybe that's enough to flatten us out. And then there was some sort of Spencer Pratt excitement. And now we have two communists to choose from for mayor. Oh, sorry. One's a socialist. The other's a communist. I didn't mean to paint them with that broader brush. And, you know, If Steve Hilton cannot be governor and we end up with Javier Baccaria,

7:43I think at that point we could officially just throw the towel in. I was like a corner man who's seen his fighter getting pummeled for 12 rounds holding that towel. But if Javier Becerra gets in as governor and we end up with, you know, Karen Bass as mayor of Los Angeles, then I think the towel has to go in at that point. Because at that point, we're admitting we don't want to correct ourselves. Like, we used to argue that we didn't need to be corrected. Now we're just arguing we're not going to be corrected. it. Jillian, you come to this world from the health world, right?

9:03Like Jillian Michaels abs, everybody had the VHS tapes. Like that's the world that you come from. VHS tapes. CD, DVD. CD. DVDs. They were. DVDs. Look, however. What am I, Jane Fonda? What are you doing? What are you doing to me right now? She's added 20 years to my life right now. Let me clean that up. She looks damn good, doesn't she? Damn, she does. Okay. Back in the old days with the gramophone. Tell you what, she's lucky I'm gay. Otherwise, I'd be all over this shit. Well, well. Look at that right now. What's going on in the world of health these days? Are you feeling good about the Maha thing?

9:41The Maha thing brought so many people over. Are you feeling good about what's going on? Oh, honest answer. Trump is a businessman. We've won some, some really good ones. We've lost some really bad ones. But what I can say is that I did work with the Clinton administration. Don't boo me. And I did work with the Obama administration in the same wheelhouse. It's my wheelhouse, guys. I would work with anybody, to be honest, if I could move the needle on policy that I think would be helpful in getting Americans healthier. And there were no wins. So at least with Trump and Kennedy, we are getting some.

10:31I'm curious, Adam, how much time do you ruminate about all of this stuff? It's one of the things that Jillian and Drew and Sage and I are always talking about on Actual Friends. Like how much of space in your brain do you think politics and culture war and all the lunacy that we're all dealing with all day long, how much space does that take in your brain? Because you strike me as pretty even-keeled for someone in this biz. I was a late starter. I didn't start ruminating until I was 15 and a half. And then I did it a lot, you know, when I was in my 20s. But over the years, I've slowed down a little bit, I'm probably ruminating maybe twice a week now.

11:13Tops, if that's what you're asking. I don't know why you'd bring it up in front of this crowd, but, you know, I might ruminate twice a day, but sometimes I pull a calf, you know, if I'm trying to do it twice a day. So I'm just sort of trying to rehydrate and just try to keep it a couple times a week. Yeah, I'm not sure you know what the word ruminate means. I think I know what it means. Sometimes I'll do it just to take the tension off, you know, before I hit the stage. Not tonight. Not tonight, obviously. But there have been nights. So same question, Jillian. All right. I had to. Oh, Rudy. It saddens me that we...

11:56Here's what I ruminate on, and here's what bothers me. This, we do something, and then we undo it, and then we do something, and then we undo it because it seems wildly inefficient. So we have a wide open border and then Trump gets elected and he says, I'm building a border wall. And he drags out$200 billion worth of steel and concrete and high beams down to the border. And then he loses the next election. And then Biden says, we're not building a wall because they don't keep anyone out for some reason. And then he sells all the stuff off for scrap and then the border's wide open and then 10 million people come over and then Trump gets elected again and he goes, we're building a border wall and we drag all the steel back to the border again.

12:42That life of just literally picking up all the garbage in the park, putting in the trash can and then dumping it out again and blowing with the fan. And then the next person comes in and starts picking the garbage up again. And then the next person throws the garbage can. It's an insane way to live. It's insanely wasteful, but it's super frustrating too. Just make a rule, stick with the rule, figure out what works, do it, and get the fuck on with your life. Ruminate on that shit.

13:18Jillian, I feel like you can give me the slightly more sensitive answer on that one. Girls don't ruminate. Oh, that's a total lie. I've never seen I've never heard I saw a movie where they pretended to ruminate and in fact rumor has it that women ruminate more often than men I'll have you know well it's so much easier for you guys not gonna argue with that literally how often do I ruminate all the time seriously on the actual question all the time I think because mostly selfishly because I have two kids. And I was talking to my son today. He's only 14, but he's very political. He's going to start ruminating soon.

14:09Listen, I don't want to think about that. Oh, God. No, I will not. No, moving swiftly onward, Adam. I think about the kids and the world that we're leaving them. And I know it sounds cliche, but, you know, I was telling my son, I'm like, if this happens with Nithya Raman and Becerra, that's it. Same conversation. I was like, that's it? Where do you want to go to college? We're buying you a house, wherever that is now. And that's it. Like, I want to get the kids set up. I worry about them. I worry about them making a living in this environment. I worry about the political climate. I worry about all of it all the time.

14:48It's terrible, actually. Do you guys, so I was giving this analogy on my podcast the other day, but I don't know if you guys think this way, which is like all the Democrats that are around me, they're thinking they're doing the right thing. And they think I'm just on the other side. Like I'm just team Trump. I hate Democrats. I hate freedom. I hate whatever. And really what I feel like is I don't hate any of you. I'm trying to save you. Like I'm trying to do what's right. I don't want to do this. I wish I didn't have to do it. And tell me if this fits, but this is the way I feel. I feel with Democrats like when you take your dog to the veterinarian and the vet's like, hold him down.

15:37I got to put drops in his eyes. And the dog's like, no, no. And you're like, it's good for you. It's good for you. Just listen to me. I'm trying to help. I'm trying to help you. And the dog's like, why are you hurting me? And it's like, I'm not mean. I'm not trying to hurt you. I'm trying to help. You just don't understand this is good for you. And I'd feel that way about LA and California and almost all blue cities. Like, I'm not arguing with you. I just don't want to destroy this world we're living in. You know, it reminds me of what our friend, the great, he's a little under the weather at the moment, but the great Dennis Prager has often said, which is that, yeah, Dennis.

16:22His son's out there. Oh, right. David Prager, Dennis' son's here. And Dennis is just, if you pray, throw in a little extra one for Dennis. I'm sure many of you know he took a spill about a year and a half, goes right after the election. And he's basically quadriplegic at the moment. But I will tell you, I saw him just a few weeks ago and the same smile, the same sense of humor, the same joy. I left happy. I honestly, I was worried about going in because we were going to a wedding right after. I was like, I don't know if I should go there right now, but absolute joy. But one of the things he's been saying for 40 years is that the right thinks that the left is wrong and the left thinks that the right is evil.

17:03And I think that that fundamentally catches it. And Jillian, I can see why that would resonate with you as somebody kind of joining the party now. But that's what all the news they watch tells them that every single thing. It was funny. I interviewed this. He's like literally a political satirist. He's an internet phenom. This young man named Josh Sider. And my team had not heard of him. They were listening to the podcast and he's actually brilliant. and when they were trying to put his lower third up before the podcast everything online is like racist bipolar mentally ill and he's actually like this very deep thinking very well educated went to law school political satirist but everything they read everything they see is we are fascists we are racists we are nazis oh you want voter id because you're racist And when people tell you that enough, and it comes from sources like CNN, The New York Times, Time Magazine, it's very hard to say, like, this is totally corrupted.

18:13They look at you like, you know, you've got a tinfoil hat on, and you went all the way down the rabbit hole. So it takes a lot of time. And what I think actually converts Adam, to answer your honest question, what I think converts a person on the left is when it comes for them. And I'll give you an example. I have watched online gay Iranians, literally who are liberal. We covered one on actual friends who are now just horrified at what the Democrats are saying about Iran and denying the fact that tens of thousands of Persians have been killed by the regime. I just watched Sam Seder and Sam, I'm sorry, Sam Harris.

18:55And he's horrified that the left is embracing Hassan Piker. He cannot wrap his head around it. And he's like, I don't understand this. Like, what are you doing? This is suicide for the party. And I'm thinking, is this, this is the thing that just woke you up? Like for me, I don't know. It was when they were transing children, trying to take away the first amendment. If you questioned where COVID came from, like wide open borders. None of that bothered you like this is your moment. But it's it's still got him. It finally came for him. It seeped all the way into his universe. And it's it comes for everyone.

19:30Let's just hope it's not too late. Do you owe back taxes or have unfiled returns? No matter how it started, the problem's only going to get worse. Penalties grow. Interest adds up. And the IRS is already taking action through wage garnishments, bank levies and more. That's where Tax Network USA can help. With over 15 years of experience, they specialize in resolving back taxes and unfiled returns. They've handled thousands of cases and resolved over$1 billion in tax debt nationwide. Right now, they're offering a free investigation call with the IRS to review your situation and create a clear path to get you back on track.

20:22All right. One more for you guys. I feel like this will kind of bring everything together. It's pretty good outside of all this. Is that basically what endless doom scrolling has caused us all to forget that life is actually pretty good because we can't seem to, as a culture, disconnect from all the political craziness. People always ask me, Dave, how you doing? I'm like, wow, my life is great. My family's good. What goes on in the four walls of my house are great. I deal with nonsense for a living. And so, what's that? And I live in Florida. That's right. And I never forget it. I mean, honestly, that is half my answer is, and I live, I live in the free state of Florida.

21:04But so many people just seem to be unable to get out of that and have it consumed. So in some sense, it's sort of the rumination question, but a slightly altered version. You got more than four walls, by the way. He has probably like 11 walls because he has 9 ,000 square feet. All right, all right, all right. He doesn't live in a blimp hangar is what I'm saying. It's got different walls. But I get the metaphor. You're saying inside your house. Yes. Yeah. We should just sit under my roof because then I couldn't pick it apart that way because it's just one room. I forgot that I was talking to a contractor who's proving why so many people love contractors the way that they do.

21:45Now, there's a difference between ceiling joists and roof rafters, and we'll get into that after the show at the Q &A. I promise. Thank you. You know, I think it's really more important than ever that people have hobbies. And I know it sounds trite, but you have to have a thing you do that is not the internet, that's not CNN, and it's not Fox. It's not even your husband, your wife, or whatever it is. It's you in the garage. It's you refinishing that old canoe. It's you rebuilding that old 34 Ford pickup truck. or it's building a tree house with your kid or it's whatever it is. I love the fact that women have gotten back to needlepoint.

22:31There's so many, like, Harmeet Dillon has made me two ski beanies so far. Two ski beanies. That's love. So I think if we're just talking sort of generally how to keep sane in this incredibly insane world, projects, man, hobbies. We used to have them. There used to be a hobby store on every corner in every town. Like when I was a kid, there was, it wasn't big Hobby Lobby stuff either. It was like Mon Pa, thousand square footer, always had that smell of the hobby shop in it. And you'd go there and you had your little projects. And now everyone is just Grubhub and Doomscroll and what's on Twitter.

23:14You must get on your feet. You must pick a tool up. You must do things that are tangible and tactile, and you must have a hobby, and that hobby cannot be you and what people are saying about you. Thank you.

23:35Jillian, that's going to be tough to beat, but same question to bring us home. Okay. First, I think it is important that you are aware of what's going on in the world, but everything is a balance, right? Because if you don't know what's going on, I think Jesse Kelly said this to me, if you're not paying attention, you're destined to be ruled over by idiots and monsters. And that's unacceptable. We have to pay attention. We have to fight back. But simultaneously, that can't just be your media diet. And sometimes, literally, I will forcibly change my algorithm and watch people do incredible deeds for each other.

24:12Just put in, like, inspiration, people doing good. And we've started to put that at the end of our podcast. So people are like, oh, look, look at all these people doing beautiful things for each other from different walks of life. And it reminds you that the vast majority of us are good people. We just have different ideas of how to achieve similar goals. And we got to keep seeing the humanity in each other and forcing, literally forcing the algorithm to show us those things instead of just look at this dumbass on the left and look at this racist on the right. That's engineered. Fight back against that algorithm.

24:51It is designed to engage us in a horizontal fight so we never look up and fight the real enemy. Which is Gavin Newsom. In case you were curious. Guys, make some noise from Adam Carolla, Jillian Michaels. Thank you. I'll finish up for a moment solo as I do on the show. Adam, you can take the whole bottle. Take the bottle. Thank you, guys. Thanks, my brother. Thanks, Adam.
