2:22Charlotte Collins:This week, I'm joined by Billy Battier and Kasia Chinnery. Hello. It's been a while. I know. Thanks for having me. Welcome back. Before we start, I should say, please do subscribe if you don't already. How are you both? What's going on? Good. Good. You're fresh back from mobs. I did. I had a wonderful long weekend in my Bay. I think we were talking about last time I was on the pod. Obviously went to my Bay Club Hotel, our favourite place. How was it? I keep seeing it everywhere. Oh, it's just so beautiful. Is it? It's really beautiful. And it's like an adult, stunning playground. and there's so many swimming pools and the food's great and the cocktails are great.
2:54This was like my first time actually spending time outside of the hotel. You actually ventured out into Marbella. I really liked Marbella. Good. Really? Yeah. Because I keep seeing the Marbella Club and for me, because I'm from Essex, it's like when people say Marbella, it represents something. It's giving question for news. So I'm like looking at it and I'm like, I just can't believe everyone's going in. Well, we did talk about that when we were there because my friend, her family used to have restaurants there yes and he was like Towie basically like ruined I mean not totally ruined the business I'm paraphrasing but um it like definitely changed yeah yeah but I think they're trying to like put a lot more into old Marbella and let that be okay because I like sort of read into the history of it and Marbella kind of became a place because of the royal family because they liked going to Marbella Club Hotel so it became this very like quite society royal hangout spot like back in the day and then has as all places do like I run different different people come in and enjoy it but I I thought it was great good yeah old town then not portipaneus that's we didn't that's the
3:58Charlotte Collins:way I was gonna say yeah did you venture into portipaneus I don't have any of the right clothes to look that's okay I see that as a positive absolutely I think that's good for you absolutely how was your summer cashier it's been good it's been really busy um I've had so many weddings back to back. For those who don't know you're a florist. Wedding florist. And yeah, it's been a really, really busy one and obviously we've had so many heat waves. So it's been tough. It's tough for the flower girlies. Yeah. So I'm quite happy to leave that season behind and usher in autumn, winter. I'm so ready for autumn now.
4:32It's hot. I just want to like, the heat when we get on the trains and stuff, I'm done. Let's get in. Couldn't agree more. Have you bought anything for the new season yet? No, I haven't. I'm trying to be careful, but I tell you what, which is probably going to lead into our buys, what we're looking at. This time of year, I start to look at leather. You know, when you start to look at new season leather, what are we getting? And I would like to get a doocy leather coat, and it's got like a big collar that you can strap around. And it just looks amazing. That's what I've got my eye on. That's going to be my new season buy, I think.
5:04Her pieces are so cool. If you're going to invest in a coat, she does like leather and faux as well. go to her because the shapes are amazing. Super contemporary. I just think I run too hot for those kind of things. But even in the depths of winter? Babe, I went to Finland and they were like, you need to wear a hat on the high. I was like, trust me, I don't. I was sweating. It was minus 25 degrees. Some people were like, wow, we've never seen that before. You're a medical marvel. There was steam pouring out of my head.
5:37let's get started with things we love kasha so loving right now i've just well i'm probably halfway through this book called london falling i don't know if anyone's heard of it so good so good it's a story about it's actually a true story about a 19 year old that like mysteriously falls to his death and his parents are like bereft and then they uncover this dark like London underworld that he's been involved in and he's kind of been living this double life pretending that he's like this Russian oligarch son it's so interesting the author does like a deep dive into London and where we are in London right now with like oligarchs and billionaires and money and it's just it's so well written it's really interesting it's heartbreaking but as it's a true story but it's really interesting so I'm loving that I read it sorry I actually listened to it I'm interested to it as well that's what I did which I know is a bit naughty when you say you're reading but no I do agree it's easier
6:32Charlotte Collins:I think it's fine it allows you to do it on the go there was quite a lot of press coverage about the story again when it I don't really remember it I don't remember no one does I've only remembered it when his book was being promoted did you? I don't remember at that because it was 2019 it was 2019 I think because of Covid it sort of got swept up and it wasn't really a big story because it's a crazy story basically the reason that they know what happened to him is the balcony he fell off into the Thames was directly opposite the MI6 building. The footage. So they've got the CCTV of it happening.
7:05Charlotte Collins:Oh, wow. Which is also how they know that he wasn't pushed. Yeah. So the question, the big mystery was kind of, why did he jump or what happened? So who has written this? An investigative journalist. Right. So it's not from like his point of view. No, no, no. It's a journalistic objective thing. He's worked with the parents quite a lot. But what I didn't like about it, and sorry, the point of view, so there was lots of press around it when it first came out, which is how I knew this was going to be the case listening to it, that there's no conclusion at the end. Oh, I know. And I don't like this.
7:35Charlotte Collins:It's a bit like there was a Maddie McCann document. Unless you're going to tell me what happened. I want a resolution. Then I lose interest. What's interesting, because I start Googling all the key players in the book and there's little to nothing about them online. The Times is quite crazy. The Times did a really good deep dive on the main guy, Eugenia, whatever his name was. Yes. Find that. It was back in April or something. but they did a really good deep dive on where he is out. It's like one or two pictures of the key suspects and you're like, how is there nothing online about these men? It's not for the fainthearted.
8:06It's a real deep dive but it's really interesting. Agreed. I'm loving it. Great. What else? Have you read Fruit Fly? Everyone has told me about this book. Is it good? It is a book by this author called Josh Silver. I feel like you were either reading Yesterday or Fruit Fly. Yes, I feel like they're the two biggies. And it's got a really captivating cover of like a big orange and then a fly on the top. I'm only like halfway through. But essentially the premise of it is, is there's a woman who is a novelist and she wrote a book about seven years ago. And everyone's kind of waiting for the next big bestseller since.
8:40And she lives in North London and seemingly has this really charming life. but feels this like a bit of self-hatred actually quite a lot of self-hatred but also this burden of pressure to produce this next incredible book it's very dark humor she goes on reddit and and there's a thread that says like the key ingredients to your next bestseller is like go dark go gay go sad so and I'm not giving too much away because this kind of happens in the first like 50 pages she creates like a grinder profile but like stealing her husband's images and essentially she gets to know this guy like by accident almost who is this sad like very troubled young addict gay addict and essentially she catfishes him well steals his story but it's like how far does she go in like the stealing of his story and and his identity and his sadness and everything that's happened to him and manipulating that for the sake of writing It sounds so good.
9:40It's really good. It's really good. It's really well written. Like, I read, I started reading on holiday, and the girls were like, you gonna hang out with us? I was like, nope. Goodbye, don't talk to me. Okay, that's a really good read. Yeah, that was great. Who did you say it was by? Josh Silver. Okay. Cash, what else are you loving? So recently, I stayed at the news at a townhouse. I've opened up a new one in Bloomsbury. Absolutely amazing. It's just, when you compare it to other hotels in London, it was just really well thought out, very calm not flashy just really I feel like when you're walking you're walking into someone's living room it was just lovely we absolutely loved it the breakfast was amazing yeah can't recommend enough what a lovely hotel have you been to the others because there's one in Clerkenwell there's one in Marley Boone I've been to the Clerkenwell one to set up flowers before but I've never actually stayed but it's you know it is sort of that vibe where you feel like you've just gone into someone's London townhouse like a really bougie off the wall kind of townhouse but this one yeah it just felt really special we really really loved it so yeah that was what i'm loving there's
10:40Charlotte Collins:a lot of new hotels coming up in london but i i've also loved i used to go to marleybone quite i've had them for ages but to their their bar yes it's the coziest most lovely little kind of tucked away in marleybone location like to go pre-dinner is so lovely i don't know about clarkenwell and i haven't been to bloomsbury one but i really recommend yeah it's that really cozy vibe so cozy like it's kind of sherlock holmes novel vibe it's gorgeous fireplaces and and it's quite dark inside. It really feels like you're in, yeah, someone's London home. But it's also quite sexy. Yeah. Because it's dark and moody.
11:11And each room was different. It was just really cool. We really, we really liked it. And then what else am I loving? I've got into a performer, which I know feels like, hello, 10 years ago, but I never really gave it a go. I stopped, started for years and I've given it a go the last few weeks and it's so hard. It's so hard. These performer girlies. Like when you see someone do the movie, you're like, cool. and then they do and then you start doing it and you're like this is not okay the shakes the shakes the shakes are wild I love watching videos of people shake
11:42Charlotte Collins:men in particular the men who go in with all the providers and like you know when they come over to help you you're like please don't please don't because you're like my leg is like going mental but I'm really lucky I feel like it's one of those things you've got to do quite a lot to be good at it but watch this space I feel like yeah I'm going to see what happens in your era where are you doing it it's a studio called Amp Reform and they do loads with other different classes. They do bar and sculpt. So it's not just reformer. So you can do a few different things throughout the week. But yeah, I'm absolutely loving it.
12:11Love that. In your fitness era. Yeah. Have you? Got to do it.
12:14Charlotte Collins:You've got a wedding coming up. I know, babe. We're doing everything. You know that meme where it's like getting ready for your wedding. It's like, I'm kind of doing that. You look great. Billy, what are you loving? I had a really delicious step at Cafe Clermont. Yeah. I like that this segment is for, you know, shop. Yeah, we're going for a format. I love chocolate. That was much more of a brand than you're talking about. No, you're a fitness queen. Well, I went for dinner at Cafe Clermont. Gorgeous. Very vibey. There was like a big table of stars. I feel really uncool that I haven't been yet.
12:45Charlotte Collins:That's a brand for you. It's really off. I'm like a bit embarrassed. Can we go? Yeah. Ooh, yeah. Yeah. Okay, that was easy. So it's the new hotel that's opened as part of the 180 Strand world. It's like at the back, so it's on the riverside. So you know where Corner Shop is? Above Corner Shop. Yes. So I think there's two restaurants where we went to Café Clément. Anyway, the food was delicious, but the star of the show was a baked chocolate mousse. Baked? Oh, that sounds amazing. What does that mean? Well, let me tell you. It's kind of like... You asked the question. I will tell you. It's kind of like a chocolate fondant, but lighter.
13:17You know how the classic M &S melt-in-the-middle situation? Like a goo. That has me in a chokehold, those chocolate puddings. Well, you'll love this. One, it's bigger. It's perfect for sharing with four people. and it's because it's a mousse it's just a lot less dense like it's a lot lighter but it still has that like oozy fondanty centre. Like a souffle. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's a more accurate company term for it. So it's like the texture of a mousse but it's just hot. It's like slightly more dense. It is like, it's more like a souffle. The souffle is a good thing. And then it's got the, what is it called?
13:50Gooey centre. Gooey centre. Obviously big fat dollop of ice cream on the top. Stunning. Really good cocktails, like a delicious, I had like a, I was quite poly at the time. I don't know if it shouldn't have really been out, but I had some kind of grapefruit situation. It was really tasty. Really nice vibe. Okay, nice. Lovely foods. Great. Yeah. I know everyone needs to get there.
14:08Charlotte Collins:It's a spot. Can I tell you about a TV show quickly? Yes. Yes, please do. So this is adults. Everywhere is advertised as FX as adults, so I assume that's the official name, FX as adults. Season two just dropped a couple of weeks ago. The show is about five Gen Z, kind of, I don't know, their mid-twenties besties who live in a house have you seen this i think i've seen bits on social first like clips is the main girl what's the main girl no the girls are kind of unknown okay so it's five friends who are living in the house of one of the friend's parents but the parents are traveling america they're living in they've like moved to queens so they're kind of in new york but kind of not really and it is your standard besties living together in their 20s sitcom but like nothing makes me laugh out loud like no even tv show like comedy tv shows that i love i love the office like i don't laugh out loud really at it this makes me lol like really properly like ha that's so funny it's tapped into social media really well so two of the main guys in it are big tiktok stars or social media stars so owen feel who has a podcast he's the guy who has the podcast where he's like he's got the collage behind him of like all the like lots of like very kind of millennial references and he's on a bed and he wears an eye mask and they just like chill on the podcast he's done like Hayley Bieber and Kendall he's best friends with Emma Chamberlain he's in a few Taylor Swift music videos like oh that's his he's very zeitgeisty exactly and also Jack Innan who is a Canadian content creator again you might recognize him he's like big on TikTok both actors and they're both cast in the show as well as some other you know there's two girls and another guy and season two in particular they've done they've really cleverly like I can't emphasize enough how much this isn't in a cringe way they've really cleverly woven in kind of current tiktokers or like there's one storyline where one of the guys basically has like a face that means that every single person with a mini mic in the streets of new york stops him and they've got they've got all the real people in to do this and he's like tearing his hair out because you know the guy who's like hey can you give me a tour of your house like how much does it cost like yes he's in their house and they're like why is this guy here julia fox guest stars like it is it's fun it's a really good look at kind of what gen z flatmates are like all together but with there's no ick or cringe to it whatsoever.
16:24Charlotte Collins:It feels really, really authentic. Jake Shane's in this season. They're tapping into all the right things. Oh, I love him. Does it read like a reality show? No, no, no. It's very much a sitcom. Okay, fine. But it's really fun. I started season one, whenever it came out, and really hated the pilot and never carried on. Okay. Turns out that was a real thing because when they dropped season two, they dropped a prequel to sit before the pilot because so many people didn't like the original pilot. so my recommendation yeah exactly so my recommendation is if you start from the beginning watch the new watch like the what's called the prequel then you can skip episode one the pilot because everyone's agreed that's rubbish and then you can move on and it's honestly so good okay what's it on?
17:07Charlotte Collins:Disney Disney Plus have you watched Earl's World? haven't yet Earl meets World what is this this is the first I've heard of it so do you know who Alex Earl is? yeah she's the one having the beef with Alex Cooper that's it So what is it? Is it reality TV? Yes, it was about her and her family, right? Oh. Her dad is married to Ashley Dupre. She was kind of a famous cool girl. Yeah, so basically, so the law is so much. So Alex L is a huge TikTok, like one of the biggest TikTokers. Her sister Ashton is also kind of by default now, big on social. And they have a really interesting family dynamic. So her parents, their parents separated when they were in their teens.
17:47Charlotte Collins:And the dad had an affair with his now wife, Ashley Earl. Ashley Dupre who I believe she was there was something with a congressman yeah that involved an exchange of some cash there was a scandal okay but they've got three kids now who are like I don't know between 8 and 13 or something as well so like that's a long time ago big blended family big blended family I think the premise of it is like Kardashian-esque yes but I've not watched it yet but the reviews are bad are they? everyone's like it's so flat oh I've heard they don't give you any tea there's no they like they the only sort of juice they give you is the Alex Cooper drama yes but like there's there's no like Braxton stuff there's no Tom Brady stuff there's no because the thing is she was it's like when she was doing her tiktoks right back in the day like her get readies with me at uni or college whatever um she they were like they would share everything so unfiltered yeah but I think this feels a bit too considered contrived I think the problem is now with with both social and reality TV like the beauty of the original Kardashians is that nothing was nothing was you know everything was able to be filmed candid AF whereas obviously now you're going to go in with your guard up so even if you think you're being candid like it's never going to give the people what they want because it's never going to be as chaotic we live in a different time they have to be so careful what they do and say don't they exactly yeah there's no like Kim your sister's going to jail stop taking pictures of yourself your sister is going to jail so you don't think it's going to get rid of you for a second season.
19:14I might watch one or two apps, see how it goes. Yeah.
19:17Charlotte Collins:I quite like her. I like her a lot. Yeah. And I also think she's one of those people, she's so in the public eye and people go for her kind of no matter what she does. Like, she's just a girl out there having fun as far as I'm concerned and she's really good at that. Yeah. And people love to come at her and I feel kind of protective and defensive of her. Yeah. Because I'm like, she's just a girl who's online. I agree. Let her live. Let her live. But does she need a show? I'm sure. Maybe not. TBC, we'll come back to you
19:45Charlotte Collins:fashion and beauty finds you've already given us one what else you eye on so I've got my doosie coat that I've got my eye on and then the second one is it keeps popping up on my feed you guys have probably seen it as well I think I'm a bit late to the party they're like bandana bags and it's called call it by your name yeah I don't know where I was but I didn't see it the first time around and one of my friends had it and I was like this bag is amazing it's so original it's really cool went onto their website and it was actually a bit overwhelming you know when you go on someone's website and there's like 20 colorways and all of a sudden you cannot make a decision full of no money so i'm kind of i need to have a think what colorway is best for me but i love them such a cool brand i think they're just really fun and cool like if you're going out you're not going to wear it to work but if you're gonna gonna go out for dinner with your girls like just a really cute little bandana bag so cute they also do jackets in bandana as well which are really cool not cheap but very very cool i feel like this could be on majorca yeah it kind of is i've got I've got one of their big ones the big tote the big tote but I got mine quite a long time maybe like do you know four or five yeah I was actually an OG I've called it by your name can I tell you who inspired me Deborah Brett do you know Deborah Brett who I love big fan and she she loves that brand she wears a lot of bandana print and she got me onto them a long time ago but in the years since I got mine they have made them structured which is better mine is like a bit of a floppy a bit flimsy yeah so actually now You need a bit more structure.
21:10I want the Alex Mills bag. Me too. I wish I'd got that bag before it got really cool. Because it's always been on my radar. Which one's that? It's just like a big canvas tote bag. But they're not reinventing the wheel. I don't know why they've just done it so well. It's not that cool.
21:26Charlotte Collins:It's quite preppy. It's the canvas totes where they put the initials on in kind of almost like bubble letters. Oh, I love it. You've seen them. And they've just suddenly gone a bit viral and everybody's going mad for them. I know. well I'll suck it I'm just going to get it I think you should do it yeah did I just say suck it suck it I remember fuck it and I got confused let's make it a thing it's late in the day and then my next thing I just discovered it it was it's iconic setting spray glow spray so good it's amazing I've only recently just started using it but I spritzed it on last week and I was like because I've got really dry skin so I do need a bit of a dewy glow I'm obsessed with it I would never say you had dry skin looking at you now oh I do but that's because I doused myself in it before I came on but I'm loving it so yeah iconic prep set mist interesting love you wrote it live love love prep set glow prep set glow yeah sorry it really does what it says so you put it on before you do your makeup okay let it dry do your makeup and then spritz it once you're done and it really makes a difference oh I need to try this I love it okay it's like an OG well okay that one passed I was too busy with my call by your name back okay she was an OG on that so we can let it go on the iconic mist thank you so much okay noted I need to get my hands in is it a cheap and cheerful thing or is it cheap and cheerful though great because I feel like with the setting sprays and the primers and stuff I don't want to spend loads of money on that it's just a little spritz yeah you know but you know it's perfect so glowy yeah love that Billie what's on your list I've got my new Dala denim on I just love this brand so much you and I both have matching jackets yeah as I'm saying as you're saying I'm like where is that jacket it's the parachute jacket no I know no I know I just I'm thinking I haven't seen it because yours is the that like washed black one isn't it yeah it's very similar this colour yeah and I've got the khaki one so anyway I've got that jacket I love but it is probably like the most size inclusive cool denim brand I've ever met I see that it's brilliant and also it's very like so Adam on our team every time I wear that jacket is like that is so cool I need to he like went like went off to find the brand like oh I love that good for girls good for boys for size inclusivity I actually did see SL Man when they were doing like a fashion street star thing a guy was wearing Dino's denim jeans so anyway I've got these however our jacket that we love they've got an amazing one I'm obsessed with it's cream and it's covered in beautiful embroidery and it gives like a little bit of cowboy about it because my green one very much goes safari so I'm just I'm getting all of these parachute jackets for every person I love that who are you today yeah which one they're really cool they're like cargo jackets with a funnel neck and like quite long and you could cinch the waist if you wanted, right?
24:07Charlotte Collins:Two big pockets. Two big pockets. Yeah, the drawstring waist is great. It is the best like don't know what to wear jacket. Agreed. I just love a funnel neck at the moment. Yeah, me too. I think it instantly makes things look modern. Yeah, I agree. And also like you can tuck your hair in. Yeah, you can do a little tuck. I've got a bob now, you know? No, you don't. No, you don't. An all new season of the Hulu original series, The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives is now streaming on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+. Four years ago, we were just making TikToks. But it feels like there are no friendships left in MomTalk.
24:41Charlotte Collins:You act like you're better than everyone. You're not. I can't trust anyone in this group. She's just dead to me. There's so much the public doesn't know. Watch the new season of the Hulu original series, The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, now streaming on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+. For bundle subscribers, terms apply. Put me. So, dollar jeans. Dollar jeans, dollar jacket. What else is on my list? Oh, H &M Studio. They've got these really, I blame Lou for all of this because she's got me into the Diff shirts, which I love. They're so good. I've been wearing a lot of. But they are, they're quite pricey.
25:16And I bought four. Okay, two of these need to go back. They're quite pricey. And I bought four. That's why they're pricey. This is what happens when you're like, when you dress in a curved body, you find one good thing. You're like, buy every colour, just in case. and I was like no no I don't need every color I've already got a white shirt and a cream shirt you can go back so I kept the light blue and the navy and then I saw an H &M studio that they've got these really great oversized shirts in and I do really love the studio collection and they've layered them with these like very fine knit roll necks underneath and they look wonderful and actually when we did my style spotlight shoot Emma had one of the samples and the quality was really gorgeous and the shape was great so I'm going to buy them instead.
25:55Charlotte Collins:I'm really enjoying the trend for dark shirts like I wish I'd got on the red shirt train but then everyone in the office did it so I was like oh I don't want to just like jump on the bandwagon yeah but navy you could still do it somewhere else that's true I could wear it I'm just only ever at work so all I do is for work but a navy shirt is really like that's a nice idea yeah with silver it looks really lovely oh yeah cool and also I love that layered over a fine knit as well yeah that's cool yeah especially like when it gets to deepest darkest winter and you're so bored of wearing just like a chunky jumper every day yeah and also I find if you're wearing a shirt and you're cold then you put a chunky jumper on it's like the collar it's too much it doesn't work but that way you can do roll neck shirt jacket and it instantly looks cool it does the dish ones are quite thick like they're ones you could wear as like an over shirt i reckon as much as a natural shirt these ones are a little bit lighter nice but i think they've got it in black light blue white it's nice i feel like a black shirt could be yeah that's what i mean really cool i feel like the light blue one they've got it's really nice so nice okay i need to get involved with this dish shirt shirts and jeans that's going to be my uniform for the next few months noted I bought some shoes this week from M &S oh which ones as we know are killing it right now I was very invested in the is it the ugly potato shoe trend I think that's what they were calling it the ugly shoe trend the potato shoe potato shoe okay potato shoe trend like a cloggy cloggy beige shapeless shoe okay so that was like the big thing last year now there are a few iterations that are like a little bit more feminine okay so I just bought a pair from M &S which are a suede they're described as a ballet flat but what I like about them is they are they come higher on the foot.
27:23Charlotte Collins:So they're more of like a sort of... Does it look like a slipper? Yes, it's kind of got like a Dick Whittington-y little vibe to it. Do you know what I mean? Yeah. It's like, it like comes all the way up here and then it's got a bit of ruching here. Yes, I've seen those. Really cool. Sounds incredibly man repeller. Oh yeah, well that has all my footwear is. They're like 45 pounds. There's some very expensive versions of out there. So I was very excited about that. You can't beat it. So is it like a little frill? No. Imagine like a shoe. I know that's a really weird thing to say, but they're not a pump, they're a shoe.
27:50Charlotte Collins:Okay, into it. Yeah. And are you wearing a stock under you? No. Right. No, they're slimmer than that. They're streamlined. Right. They're for autumn. They're a pump. They're between a ballet pump. Got it. And a slippery. They are just, the accessories department at M &S, they're just smashing it up. Everything. So good. I got a pair of pumps from there. And they're like navy leather, just super plain, but they look exactly like the row. Have you seen their dupe for the Kate burgundy boots? Ooh. Burgundy patent. They've got the heel that's like not a very defined heel. it kind of goes like that.
28:21Charlotte Collins:It's like a round. Okay. Yes, yes, yes. I know which ones you mean. And which by the way, I bought the originals and when I say the toe was fucked on the first wearing and sorry if you're listening to this with children in the car, but like seriously, seriously destroyed. And so if you can go and buy the, whatever they are, 100 quid version from M &S, I'm all for it. Like as in I'm not here for brands ripping off other brands and I'm all here for investing in quality, but quality they ain't. When the Dew performs better than the quality one. And I think it's totally justified to put that message out and say, you don't spend this much money.
28:55You spend that much money. They're a better pair of shoes.

28:57Charlotte Collins:I literally trialed the original and can tell you. Well, I remember. How sad. I remember when you like, it was like, I unboxed them. We were like, wow, love the boot. And then saw in your story, you were like, the toe's gone. It was like day one. No, that's not okay. M &S killing it. The other thing that I have bought is a cummerbund from Zara. Do you know what a cummerbund is? Yeah. Yeah, yeah. No, what is that? This is the thing now. So you know those belts that men wear for black tie, like a big silk tiered belt? Yes. It's a thing. Valentino is where it's come from. Pastel colored Valentino versions were on their autumn winter runway.
29:31Charlotte Collins:They have like a gorgeous blue, a kind of canary yellow, a lovely pink and the Zara pink. You know when a pink is the perfect pink? And it just speaks to you. Speaks to you. And it's like, I love that you can wear it with, you can wear something really boring and it makes it more interesting, more fashion. or you can wear something really androgynous and because it's, there's something kind of really glam about it because it's, a cummerbund has obviously got such evening wear associations but then also it's got the pink so it's got the feminine thing as well. And it's a bit of cinch. And it's a bit of, amazing.
30:00Charlotte Collins:So what are you wearing it with? So, well, I'm going to New York on Wednesday so I was doing a bit of a try on session because it's 30 degrees in New York. Anyway, so the point is I was trying on outfits yesterday for New York and the cummerbund works really well with, I've got some cream tailored trousers and a white shirt. Yeah. And just, that's quite boring. and then you add that and you're like okay fresh modern love it I've also got I bought recently from Zara of cream it's almost like parachute material midi skirt not cream like a camel colour like a genus really really thin and again with that it just looks more interesting yeah
30:36Charlotte Collins:this next segment is called celebrity we're going to change that but we're going to talk about what's happening what's hot pop culture here we are and today it has been announced that Wimbledon are going to be banning influences. Well, my Instagram has been flooded. It's popping off. They're like, what are you going to do? And I was like, well, as a hardcore tennis fan, I think I'll be all right. Yeah, also as press. As press. Or just get me in the queue. I'm happy there too. Do me a favor. You went five times this year. You're not happy in the queue. I would have queued for a six-time. Yeah, yeah, all right.
31:08She's a humble tennis fan. Again, I'm not a total brat. Right, what's happened is the US Open is on currently. And there's been an influx of content creators and influencers obviously at these things because people people like see that there's huge equity in tennis from a like a global standpoint, a cultural standpoint. And socially, it's like exciting to be there. However, they are being very disruptive to tennis where they're like ring lights blinding the tennis players while they're playing, like they're doing viral trends and sounds while they're playing. And it's being very disruptive. I don't know whether those content creators have then been accredited by whoever's governing the US Open I don't know if it's like the LTA like won't be but like um and as and is then like giving them their passes but anyway what's happened off the back of that it all of the press around it the last couple of days was like asking Naomi Osaka about it and asking all these other players about it but today Wimbledon have just announced like basically zero tolerance for it and I really get it because i do like it's a you don't as a player this is like that's their job this is like their biggest kind of platform to be operating at and also this is this is like their actual livelihood that shouldn't be you have to come in and have like a level of respect like you wouldn't go to a musical theater show and get suddenly like start talking in the middle and like that
32:35Charlotte Collins:they're performing but also and it's and the stakes are so much greater than that because it's not only their job, this is what they work. To get to that point. These are like the pinnacle of the pinnacle. That's their opportunity. It's like on the day of your final exams, somebody coming and standing with a ring light. It's the important of that. And also it's for the people that have actually spent hard earned money on their tickets that are true tennis fans. They should have the chance to watch a game that's not disrupted. It's a sports tournament. I feel like it's got to the point now where it's like all these big events and it's not just tennis it's other events throughout the year sports events it's like it's not everything has to be a promotional promotional opportunity i think we've lost this thing now where it's like okay this is cool let's jump on it from a content point of view it's like let's just let these people play tennis it doesn't have to be you know it's because we were saying earlier is it that brands will still be able to take people or will it just be like an individual thing, which will be hard.
33:35Yes, fingers crossed. But I do think it's got to the point where it's like we've lost our way a bit in terms of PR, promotion, content. Like, I think if you're going to be taken to Wimbledon or the US Open, you should have some semblance of interest in tennis. Or just like read up the etiquette just for like five minutes beforehand. It should be relevant brands taking people. Totally.
33:57Charlotte Collins:And I think the kind of over-promotion of it goes two ways. it's brands kind of jumping on things where the brands don't necessarily have any relation to that thing whether it's a musical artist or it's a sports event but also it's it is I mean it is celebrities influencers content creators you know if you think about Wimbledon when I think about some of the people who are there and like who are there having had full glam and are there you know to take photos and you can see that they are just there to take photos and and it's so often you know we're lucky enough to go to these events and there are so often people there going oh someone explain this to me like I don't know the rules and as you say you're taking it away from somebody who legitimately wanted to be there and it leads to a sort of a kind of bastardization of something that is really important to a lot of people and kind of to what end you know I think it's a good thing what women wouldn't have done I really do I don't know how it's going to play out it'd be interesting to see it all plays into the culture of today which is that you I always try to ask myself the question re an invite or like something that i might want to do even if it's spending way of money or a work invite if i if nobody could ever know that i went to this thing would i still go because i think it's really important to sense check and listen i understand that for some people it's an important part of their job to look like they are in the right places and be seen in the right you know environments but i also think that it's really easy to get sucked into doing things because you think that you should look like you're there and that's just such a false economy and it's where we're getting into this really like icky world and where does it end and where does it end you know it's you don't don't have to turn up to everything no but i think the problem is is that they want to turn up because they want to be seen that but they don't really care about exactly game and it's all about you know brands and they're all trying to jump on a viral moment so you know that week if you if you get invited to wimbledon the content around wimbledon goes up so these brands need to be seen to be placing people there wearing xyz or you know holding something or whatever i we totally get it because we we work in that world but it has got to the point where we're losing the actual allure of it and what that thing is actually about yeah totally and like i was just on a sort of kind of superficial level like it must be really boring going to wimbledon or if you don't like tennis if all you want to do is go and like get a picture and have a cream tea not that entertaining so like save yourself it's a lot of stuff it's a lot of effort it's a lot of effort yeah i've like i've been with people before who they're like do you like do you like this and I'm like like it this is my soul this is my life this is my entire personality yeah like I always think like imagine if that was like when you sat next to like I don't know like a really normal couple like say my mum and dad were sitting next to you to you at Wimbledon and you're there with your phone you're really like I just it's so embarrassing yeah you'd be like let someone else let them have a good time because for so many people these are like once in a lifetime yes totally to see a once in a lifetime thing and like to witness people like those players the levels that they're operating at is is just incredible and for you to have like absolutely no disregard for like the work the time the effort the blood sweat and tears that has gone into that as a as a spectator the hard-earned money that you've you've spent to be there and the players who are like this is their life disrespectful i'm not i'm gonna play devil's advocate because it's important to have a balanced conversation you know tennis has is trendy now and and probably has got trendy in the last kind of five years i think since all of these brands and people have been kind of activating in that place which the more that people know about event and listen Wimbledon obviously wasn't struggling for you know ticket sales before but this whole content ecosystem you know whether it's influences there through to clipping of the you know the content that they're making behind the scenes with the players all of that contributes to a much greater kind of world that means that there is more funding for doubles hopefully Wimbledon just cut that but you know there should be more funding for doubles more funding for women more funding for grassroots tennis like the more publicity there is around any given sport the more that it contributes to the more money that's the growing into it the more money that's flooding into it so arguably it's a valid point and i don't i don't think there should be a blank like if someone was like right billy because it says on your bio like journalist maybe you'll be okay but say it didn't and say they just saw that i don't know i make content for a living billy blanket ban yeah i'd be like i'd be devastated it's nuanced but i do think like go and be interested just Just don't go and be selfish.
38:17That's exactly it. Yeah, and like we were saying, have some etiquette. You shouldn't be able to get your phone out and take a video of yourself while someone's playing tennis. No.
38:27Charlotte Collins:A tennis player, I can't remember who it was, but stopped a match yesterday because they could smell weed. Somebody was smoking weed. Yes. Yeah, because obviously it's legal there, so people are just lighting up in Arthur Ashe. So US Open is ratchet. Chaotic, right? Imagine that. Wimbledon. They do have different rules. so like you know at Wimbledon if the play is going on you obviously can't stand up and just leave like you can do that they well that feels like an error of judgement terrible from them terrible they're now trying to crack down on it but I was like you open the floodgates yes because people do move around like during points and if sometimes I've had to stand outside for like 45 minutes because if the game's going on like there's no way you're not going on yeah but it is like it's a very different vibe there interesting so I went to have you done Roland Garros yeah where I did that last year and that was much that was quite Wimbledon adjacent like it kind of etiquette wise and vibe wise yeah it was quiet and there are rules and yeah people are not just sort of wandering in and out I was watching the Alcaraz match last night and there was a stat that came up saying there was 17 million dollars worth of honey juice sold last year which is the drink the US open drink so it's like a it's a vodka mixer yeah but to be fair how many Pimms are sold at Wimbledon probably quite a lot as well probably a similar amount but like 17 million dollars is a lot but they don't need the content for raises and also you know what we were saying you were saying about having a balanced argument there's no question of a doubt that Wimbledon is a corporate event as well right of course there's money to be made yeah like my boyfriend will take his clients there so it's like people are doing corporate stuff there true you know but I do think it'd be silly to say that like anything like at a big concert you've got you know probably banks or whatever they've got boxes there but they're I just think it's got a little bit it's not as in your face as cool tank.
40:13It's the way you behave when you're there. Yes. But you're right, the corporate point, I always think, they're not watching the Tennessee theater. Some of them don't care. They're just sat at the bar having all the free moves. They're there for a piss up.
40:23Charlotte Collins:And those seats are empty too. Yeah. This is something that crops up every now and again with concerts as well, isn't it? Because do you remember around, I think it was around Taylor Swift that people started saying it, particularly around Oasis. Oasis, yeah. Yeah, let the fans, you know, there's so many influencers going, let the fans go and have the tickets. First of all, they're mostly going in boxes so those are not they're not they're not readily available they're not readily available yeah but again I think like I don't understand why like you couldn't pay me to go and sit through a concert of somebody whose music I didn't know like I would just find that so boring so just yeah just go if you know who like I think it's in those of us on the other side we have a responsibility to be responsible about what we go to and how if you're not interested in that artist why would you waste your time no boring yeah I want to be able to sing if I can't sing totally I want to sing my heart out every single word I want to see my heart out, get a bit of merch.
41:09Yeah. Oh, yeah. We briefly touched on Oasis. So a new Oasis doc has just come out. I think it's coming out this week, but they've already shown it. And it's made by the guy, Stephen Knight, who made Peaky Blinders. And it's all this behind-the-scenes footage of the tour last year. And sort of, it's like the first thing in probably, like, years where the two brothers have been seen together. It looks really good. It's come out this week. But I think they premiered it at Venice this weekend. Yes. Yeah, where it's got the problems to. Yeah, I can't wait to watch it. I'm a big Oasis fan so I'm really excited.
41:39Did you see them last year? I saw them twice. And did you know every word? I knew every word. Me and my boyfriend went twice and it was like the best night of our lives. Really? We loved it, yeah.
41:49Charlotte Collins:Do you think, I don't know what we know about the documentary but are we going to see, is there some beef? I don't think there's beef. I think it's more like actually really lovely moments between them where they're actually connecting. Them getting ready backstage. I don't think we're going to get any juice. Yeah. I don't think we're going to get any juice. Is the documentary about the tour? It's about the tour. yeah it's about the tour and then maybe coming back coming back together but i don't think we're going to get any juicy juicy info just a bit of like additional just fandom just for the fans yeah love that the other thing that came to light this weekend is a documentary that nobody knew about okay so these two documentary makers do you remember the story of elizabeth holmes and theranos yes and she's this woman who there was an amazing podcast series about it the podcast series is called the dropout you have to listen to it if you haven't already amanda safe reed made a TV show of the same name in which she plays Elizabeth Holmes.
42:38Charlotte Collins:That's on Disney, I think. And the new documentary is called You Can See Everything. She's in prison for fraud. She created a kind of fraudulent medical company, basically. A load of people lost money and she's now in prison. Yeah. But it was like a wild story because she was this very kind of wholesome blonde woman who like nobody thought, you know, everybody kind of took very seriously. She modelled her appearance on Steve Jobs. She wore these kind of black polo necks and straight back hair and just like she was this real kind of you know ted talk thought leader who it turned out all to be massive scammer massive anyway so she went to prison i think it's now just a couple of years ago and these documentary makers were allowed somehow to go and live with her and her husband and her child for the 11 days before she first went to prison and they've made they filmed this whole thing i don't know why she allowed this to happen but this documentary has now kind of come to light this weekend and i've seen the directors talking about it and basically saying that it was like one of the naughtiest experiences ever they like can't quite process it she's so weird all she's doing so weird all she's doing in those 11 days is talking about like what the next big project is going to be in this next big business like honey think you're done anyway i remember all of the words you're saying but i don't remember it was something to do with taking your blood yeah it was a diabetes testy something like taking your blood and maybe like injecting it back into yourself something like it was basically going to cure all this stuff the whole thing was a scam but she had so much funding um like it was gonna be the next crazy you know yeah medical invention but the trailer it's when you watch the trailer for it you're like oh this is obviously scripted you're like this is obviously not not a woman crazy she's just looking into this guy's eyes yeah and he's going to her like she's like i'm not being dishonest with you and it's like she looks absolutely mental like deranged like pathological like like just she's just not in the room she's somewhere else she's like why would i lie to you and so i think she's just like just a huge huge scam artist and she's because she took all the money and and it's just for all she definitely has always denied um any sort of malpractice or at least any awareness of kind of what she was doing and the fact that it was wrong um there's some really in like a really weird twist of like um kind of zeitgeist culture she is in that prison there's like an open air prison in New Jersey where you can paparazzi can take photos of them as they exercise in the yard.
45:02Charlotte Collins:And you know that I'm, I don't watch the real housewives, but that is it Teresa. Yeah. Whatever her name is. They exercise in the yard, Teresa's not out, but they used to exercise in the yard together. And there were all these pap photos of them just like walking around in their prison jumpsuits. It's like what a crossover of women. It's so wild. So meta. Right, girls, I think we're going to leave it there. Thank you both so much. Thanks for coming. Thanks for having me. Thanks for listening. Thank you for watching. Do subscribe on whatever platform you listen to us. or you watch us and we'll see you next time.
45:30Charlotte Collins:Bye bye.
