In short
This episode of Sheerlux (with Simple) is a summer lifestyle chat at Simple’s “Whatever the Weather Experience” pop-up in London. Guests discuss summer highlights (Isle of Wight/Isle of Man trips, Glastonbury, concerts like Beyoncé, Dua Lipa, Sabrina Carpenter, themed outfits), summer rituals (tennis/paddle, sleep “maxxing” via natural light and Diome supplement, plus sleep masks), and summer beauty/fashion. Key beauty claims: SPF should be worn daily because UV breaks down collagen/elastin and worsens aging; “the best SPF is the one you’ll actually wear”; Simple UV Fluid SPF 50 absorbs quickly, won’t pill under makeup, and comes in invisible and mattifying options with skincare benefits (e.g., niacinamide).
Notable examples
burnt middle parting from missing SPF; using cryo fridge rollers; lymphatic drainage/leg-up routine; cold-tap foot cooling.

Automatic transcript. May contain errors.0:09Hello and welcome to the Sheerlux podcast this week in partnership with Simple. I'm your host, Billie Bartier, and I'm so excited to be joined by Jen and Oren from the ShearLux beauty team. We are at the incredible Whatever the Weather Experience, Simple's two-day pop-up here at Altadette London. So a huge thank you to Simple for having us. The weather in the UK is ever-changing, so we're here to talk about protecting that summer feeling. We'll be chatting through our summer highlights so far, the skincare and the beauty rituals we're loving, our style go-tos, and of course, the launch of Simple's brand new UV Fluid SPF 50.
0:42We're going to kick off with summer so far. So, Oren, I'm going to start with you. What have been your summer highlights so far and what have you still got coming up? So, highlights so far. I went on a really fun girls weekend to the Isle of Wight. Just a few of us and we went for like a long weekend. We did making cocktails. We had a barbecue. We were very, very lucky with the weather. Some of us actually went for an early morning run along the coastline. It's very wholesome. really really pretty um i don't know if anyone's ever been to the isle of white but it's actually really super easy to get to it's like an hour on the ferry you can just sort of go across portsmouth um so i really strongly recommend um the isle of white as a nice sort of staycation place and what have you got coming up anything else yes so i'm actually going to the isle of man You do all the Isles.
1:38All the Isles, girl. Which is in between sort of Liverpool and Belfast. So this is up north. And we have some family there. It's actually where my boyfriend's from. So we're going to be just spending a little bit of time there. I feel quite strongly about the coast. I'm a bit of a seagull. I think there's something about that sort of restorative sea air that sort of just energises me. It's good for you, isn't it? Yeah, and kind of it helps me sort of de-stress and kind of, you know, when you're wanting to get away from work a little bit. So I've got that coming up end of August. And yeah, what about you, Billie?
2:18Summer highlights so far. I have been living in Leicester at my parents' house. So I kind of have had a London's vacation. I moved back for like five weeks. I just don't think there's anywhere better in the sun than London. I know. I get real FOMO as well when it's sunny in London, but you're not here. So this is my holiday currently here in the internet. I'm having a great time. Welcome. Jen, what have been your summer highlights? Also enjoying a great British summer as well. So for me, every year, apart from once every four years, Glastonbury is like my mecca. You are the Glastonbury queen. I'm a Glastonbury queen.
2:51I did grow up about 20 minutes away, so I've been going my whole life. And every year gets better. It's gorgeous. Great weather, great backs. Alanis Morissette sort of healed some childhood trauma that I didn't know I had I've had that on repeat I wasn't even there I watched it was unbelievable her voice was just like album perfect um so Glastomy was undoubtedly my highlight so far and have you got any exciting summer plans coming up yeah so I'm I'm a country girl at heart as much as like you like London is now my home but um I have lots of friends that live there still and also six godchildren dotted around the country so I'm very lucky to therefore have lots of different places that I can go and stay so I'm down in Sulcombe with my friends but also one of my godchildren I'm in the Cotswolds with another group Dorset so I'm doing lots of sort of driving around the country visiting friends and family and are there any summer rituals or habits that you've picked up and that you're very much into this summer I played tennis when I was a kid very much not professionally that sounded like I was sort of like teeing up in Wimbledon at school and things and then I picked it up the last couple of years but this summer we've been playing really consistently so I'm basically a pro yeah I can pretty much get it over the net um so that's been my really nice but again a bit like you with the sea like you can't have your phone on you when you're playing tennis so for an hour I'm not looking at my phone switching off really concentrating so it's a really nice like de-stressing activity in the evening yeah it's been a new time yeah you do paddle oh I'm gonna try and make it my year-long ritual yeah but we actually I did a paddle event with simple a couple of weeks ago and it was it's just the best like anyone play paddle hands up a few you know and how good it is how addictive it is but if you haven't played go and try it because it's literally the most fun and yeah same as you like it's it's kind of become this quite detoxing de-cleansing moment in the week where no phone no nothing just try and get the ball over the net and don't trip over my own which is easier in paddles yeah as much yeah or and what about you so i have been doing a bit of sleep maxing i don't know if you've seen that trend on tiktok but it's basically optimizing sort of healthy sleep habits so you'll see lots of people doing the mouth taping there's like a situation with nails nasal dilation but i we were just chatting about this actually but I've been trying to open my blinds and kind of wake up with the natural light yeah which I think it's it's you know sort of getting your circadian rhythm rhythm into you know a nice flow and I have a supplement that I really really recommend Diome I've been trying recently and I don't know if anyone else struggles with sleep but I find some sleep supplements can make you wake up and feel slightly groggy but this is so good it makes you actually wake up feeling really really super refreshed and kind of ready for the day so I've been taking my Diome and I've also been wearing my sleep mask like all night I normally actually save a sleep mask for the plane but I think it's just I don't know you're making me feel lazy because you also are waking up with the sun and I'm like lying in till 7 30 every morning but well I feel like for years I fought like waking up early in the summer because I was like no eight hours that means I've got to get up at like 7 45 yeah but now I just I do find it easier I've actually feel energized and I don't know whether it's because I'm like Aries and sun sun sign or whatever but it's definitely that 100 % that yeah really leaning into that um but I do like leave the curtains slightly open and then just kind of wake up with what time are you going to bed like between like 10 30 and 11 30 okay so you're getting to yeah like six six ish yeah that's not so bad no give it give it go billy i feel like you're a woman who does not need a lot of sleep no i don't need much sleep i think it's a toxic trait though because you then brag about really we were saying anna winter she has like four hours sleep a night and then she plays tennis i am anna winter and she loves london so you are you are anna winter now i know the sheerlux team are always so hot on like where to eat where to go so have there been any standout places or restaurants or experiences that you recommend people to enjoy this summer yes I've got a restaurant yes go on tell us Lauren um so I recently spent the weekend in Brighton and there is the most incredible Indian restaurant it's called the chili pickle I don't know if anyone that's a good name yeah the chili pickle and I really recommend they have these amazing gunpowder fries they're just like you need you need to try them it's um i think finding a good indian is quite difficult yeah um but everything is super sort of authentic and lovely and the flavors are just incredible so the chili pickle in brighton it's my restaurant okay i'm going to next weekend yeah are you oh do are you yeah yeah please please book you're going to mariah carey i am going to brighton pride yeah i'm so excited yeah it's gonna be chaos but in the best way possibly Jen what about you I love Soho in the summer I just think it's really buzzy and there's like people sort of falling out into the streets and falling over in the streets sometimes so I like to get a little table outside somewhere like Bar Termini or um Pro Vardis yeah just kind of like sit with a little tiny cold martini and watch the world go by top tip Pro Vardis before 6pm martinis are six pounds yeah anybody fancies yeah and they're very cold too which is like key but then you have to drink them really fast before they get warm but oh well what a shame and is there anything that's made this summer feel any different to previous summers jen what about you um well i'm working at sheer lux because i've only been here two months which is really nice because uh it's like my dream job so i feel like i've really peaked career-wise which is making you know going to work every day and waking up even though i'm not waking up at 5 30 just like a nicer more joyful experience so it's it's been a really lovely summer and then anytime I've had off as well so I just had a couple weeks off on holiday and when I've had gasp me off I've like looked forward to coming back to work so there's not been kind of the peaks and troughs of summer so far it's been one big peak which is nice nice I think for me I've been so lucky I've seen some amazing artists this year yeah it's been a great summer for music lovers so started off strong with Beyonce and Cowboy Carter we all went to that good yeah did you go yeah she's such just an incredible performer and I've actually I've never seen Beyonce before so that was a privilege so good um and then I saw Dua Lipa who was also amazing and such good crowd like good energy um and then I also saw Sabrina Carpenter I went to BST.
9:44Oh, you've done all the biggie. You've done all the bits. You've done a pop girl summer, yeah. And do you know what I'm loving? I'm just loving everyone dressing up for a concert. Yeah, I feel like that is such a thing. The themed dressing. Yeah. I've never seen more cowboy hats in my life, yeah. I know, and at Sabrina, like, there's so much gingham, like, everyone's in their sort of corset situations. I just think it's, like, really fun to kind of tie it in with the artist. Yeah. I love that. I do feel like people have taken, like, the themed dressing to a whole nother level at concerts. Like, did you see, did anyone see the Pitbull concert?
10:11Oh my god, it was like a sea of... Old heads and white shirt. All caps, yeah. They looked incredible on the tube, like going up the escalator. I've never wanted to go to a pit bull pit bull market until I saw that. I was like, okay, it's a very summer special occasion. Okay, moving on to beauty and skincare. Warmer weather often means switching things up from lighter layers to that all-important SPF. So, Oren, how does your skincare or beauty routine change during the summer months? Yep. so I feel like lots of people are thinking kind of lighter textures gels that kind of thing I personally I'm quite happy with my oils and balms so cleansers I would normally keep the same I am quite prone to prickly heat so heat rash is a bit of an issue for me so I try to prioritize within my skincare routine everything that is sort of cooling and refreshing and calming um so I love like any kind of humectant packed mist that's gonna like plump up my skin and make it really gorgeous and bouncy um and then I also I love a cryo tool so I've got some glass kind of rollers that I keep actually keep in the fridge I feel like that is a good tip to give you that sort of extra hit of coolness I'm very puffy when I wake up in the morning yeah I mean who isn't in the summer yeah Jen what about you similar stuff really yeah like I sort of switch up my I like in the winter like a thick night cream but in the summer I'll go a bit lighter I keep either tools in the fridge or skincare itself in the fridge so missing things or even just a pair of teaspoons like when you're making your tea in the morning I'll just stick a pair of teaspoons in my eyes and then double cleansing so I'm not always I know like certain skincare gurus would shoot me for saying this I don't always double cleanse because I use a flannel I'm using a hot cloth and it's getting in there but in the summer I do because I'm more vigilant with my SPF and I'm reapplying it as well in the winter I don't reapply my SPF necessarily through the day but in the summer I do so there's more to kind of get out the pores in the evening so just kind of being a bit more vigilant with that I think the the cleansing situation in the summer is really important because it I just feel like I've I'm my skin feels like not dirty but like there's just so much pollution there's so much heat there's so much stuff clammy it's clammy and I'm a sweaty gal so it's like the cleansing is important but I kind of I like to strip it I do like to strip it back in the summer because because for that reason I feel like if I put products on and I've layered like five or six products yeah and then I walked out like even a 15 minute walk to the tube I feel like it's rolling yeah down my face and that is what I love about the invisible product is that it literally absorbs so quickly into the skin like I said we had it's like a serum it feels more like it really is yeah this spf yeah and we had we were all trying the product out when we were playing paddle and bearing in mind it was like kind of semi-indoors the paddle court so it was like a sauna in there and that the i could still feel that the product was like on my skin it hadn't rolled off yeah um so i do think yeah strip it back and i'm a big fan of an of an essence and a mist and then just using spf as my moisturizer and kind of keeping it at that and finding an SPF like the simple one that has skincare benefits in it so then you can skip a serum in the morning or you know something like that.
13:30Speaking of we do know how important SPF is what is your relationship with SPF like and I say this because beauty editors are very passionate about SPF. Yeah they're great about it. I would there's there's a phrase and I'm going to get this wrong is the best SPF is the one that you want to wear so they've come so far in the last few years that I would defy anyone to find a formula that they don't like basically and anyone that says oh but I don't like the way it feels or I don't like the the finish or the if there's a white cast or you know it feels too heavy or or breaks you out that's just it's a lie as far as I'm out these days like you can find one and the simple one's a great example in terms of feeling like a serum feeling really lightweight but having a high spf coverage it has to be 50 on the face yeah in my opinion or more about you yeah do you know what i'm similar i'm not amazing at top ups i have to say that is my one slightly guilty but i do i wear spf every single day um i have done since i was a teenager when i kind of discovered the skin fluences um but i i had an experience a few years ago when i actually burnt my middle parting oh my god i don't know if you've ever done that yeah hideous like you can't even brush your hair it's so so painful so that was probably a bit of wake-up call for me so yeah SPF every single day um and factor 50 for me yeah when I my background was predominantly fashion and when I moved into beauty this was the line I was told by every beauty editor was where your SPF every day where it come rain sun cloud whatever the weather literally spf is like vital to your skin health and vital to keeping you looking young and i've been so like terrible when i was younger me and my sister would like whack the olive oil on sit in the garden like oh yeah um and i remember going for like a skin analysis and them saying like you're you're aging faster than you should be because you haven't been wearing spf and i was like okay that is that is it i want to stay 21 for as long as one of those black and white yeah That's so very horrific.
15:45It's the single worst thing for your skin. Undeniably, it doesn't just, not in terms of just when you burn or have pigmentation, but it breaks down collagen, it breaks down elastin. So every single sign of aging in your skin will be worsened by the sun. I'm not saying that I'm perfect. I mean, I've got a bit of a tan at the moment. You do get it when you're abroad or been in the sun a bit too much. But people that say you don't need it every day, it's fine. I mean you do listen no one died of having wrinkles but if you want if anti-aging and looking younger and looking youthful and looking plump and looking your best and glowing is important to you then wear SPF.
16:23Well let's talk about the simple invisible UV fluid SPF 50. How have you been using it and what do you love about it? So there's three different types I think the invisible probably is my favorite because I love how nicely it sits under makeup no pilling at all and it doesn't you know there's no disruption with your foundation um but yeah it's so nice and also what i think is great about the formula is the gluten you know technology supports your skin's natural antioxidant defenses meaning that the formula sort of works in tandem you know for example with your vitamin c so it's great and it um you know can help reverse the actual visible signs of skin damage existing signs you know if you were you were lying out in front of the oil you know perhaps support yeah work work harder work harder jen what about you which of the three are you loving the mattifying one i quite like because i i do tend to get oily in the afternoons um but it's it's mattifying without um sort of lessening the glow of your skin so it doesn't sort of block out any kind of natural glow that you've already got there and it doesn't feel like it's going to peel at all.
17:37I think that's the thing with some mattifying products. They're quite heavy with the kind of silicons and stuff that they can peel under your makeup. So that one I really love. And the fact that it, again, has the skincare ingredients in it that kind of help, like niacinamide, which is a super ingredient for your skin in terms of helping with skin texture, helping with oil control, and also it can help sort of with pore size too. So the kind of things that come in hand with oily skin, niacinamide can help counteract those. So I really like that one. I think the question that I get asked all the time is like, do you need moisturiser and do you need SPF?
18:07And when you have products like this that are so packed with skincare ingredients, like you don't, especially in a summer, like you just need SPF, you don't need to keep layering products and products and products. I certainly feel like this is hydrating enough. Yeah, yeah. And in the day, you can just, as we were saying, you can just a little mist with your favourite mist or something just to kind of boost a bit of hydration in the skin if you feel you need it. Do you have any like summer skincare rituals? Like how do you apply all of your products? um well not so much skincare but I do have some weird summer rituals just looking after my body and health generally so I um put my legs in the air every night um but I feel like we need we need a visual we don't need a visual on the bed legs up yeah so on the bed bum basically sort of against a headboard and legs in the air and it just helps drain all the food.
19:03I get really heavy legs in the summer and feel like I'm kind of dragging around blocks of concrete so put my legs in the air for 10 minutes at night and it just helps to drain everything and you can do a little lymphatic massage as well if you want to so just pressing on sort of behind the knees some of the lymph points down your legs just to help drain everything. So that's one of my like summer rituals and in terms of skin care at the same time as doing that I'll have a kind of mask on so I'll optimise my time so the 10 minutes self-care moment yeah or an led mask something like that to kind of yeah make and then have a book and have my husband looking at me like he wants a divorce but that's that's the visual but then he sees your legs he's like i'll stay that's the visual or and do you have any do you know i feel like i need to try the leg thing because i also get quite like it really works it's made a huge difference to like and even the next day i can feel this made a difference yeah i have to give it a go but um i've been for lymphatic drainage i quite i know i rate that I think that's good but Jen actually you've got me into body brushing yeah so sort of towards the heart just stimulates the lymph gets all the flow going um and I do that just on dry skin before the shower then I'll also I love a body scrub I like a sort of nice thick um salt scrub so I rub that into skin and then add a little bit of water and then I'll sort of rinse that off in the shower um shave and then i'm a bit of a self-tan girl so i'm gonna have to put on some no shades to get me better than real tan yeah okay mine is a lot less goop related so i feel like you guys are really gooping up there but i i actually don't think there's any better feeling than when you come home after you've been like hot day out and you put your feet under the cold tap in the bar just cool yourself down that's that's my top tip it's it's it's like very basic that's the way to cool them down quick like your whole body yeah literally just ice water just like over my ankles over my feet and I feel like it literally cools everything down and calms my skin but then you're not supposed to have a cold shower before you go to bed I read that the other day I was what does it do because it actually like distorts your body's some kind of systems in your body's and actually makes you feel hotter apparently and you're meant to have a hot drink as well when you feel that's the only thing I remember from science isn't it's an exothermic reaction there we go that's where I was going I don't really know what that means no but it sounds impressive and then my other tip is I um I love a little handheld fan and I use it for my skincare so I'll do like one layer hold the fan bed it in another layer hold the fan bed it in you were talking about what that the other day with makeup as well yeah in between makeup steps always genius um so yes that again everybody get one of those little handheld fans um what do you do to like I feel like we've kind of talked about pampering ourselves but is there anything that you do that's like non-negotiable TLC like beauty ritual you know what mine probably is still connected to body I feel like it's that time you get back from work you're quite like hot and stressed like you say putting your feet under the water um mine's like exfoliating my body and then I love a body serum just to like I'm very very dehydrated to kind of make everything feel nice and bouncy then I like to lock it in with an oil and I'll kind of like properly massage it in just so you're layering the body care yeah yeah like lock in the moisture with an oil that is do you recommend a fan on top lock that in double time so it's funny you said what has made this summer different before I wanted to actually say getting an electronic that like that has changed my life I didn't really want to be a person who is on the tube and doing that like I get it I can appreciate it but this this year it's always on her desk it is it's like a wider place yeah have you seen the ones that like have a necklace to them and then the fans like that it's like it's almost like a neck break I've seen one that's a hat that has one built in it's like a floppy hat and it has one built in there I think that might be a step too far for me but I respect it a handheld we'll keep it there yeah Jen what's your TRC moment?
23:13I wash my hair every day. Do you? Yeah which is so much admin though no? Yes yeah but A I've got it down to a fine art B my hair actually dries really quickly it's porous so even though I've got quite a lot of it it dries super quickly and C I just feel especially in the summer I just feel like fresher and cleaner if I've just doused my whole self. fair um so that's that's definitely one of them and also I sort of I guess it's more of a guilty pleasure but spending like 10 minutes plucking out my gray hairs like in the evening if there's really good light and I'm passing the mirror I cannot help myself there's basically tweezers near every mirror in my house just in case I see gray hairs so I'm just plucking them out but it feels yeah it feels nice it also feels awful because there's just so many of them now it's like i'm losing the battle but i know mine are right here so i am right here put it down there okay segueing from beauty to fashion summer style and seasonal favorites um we're going to talk about like all the pieces that we lived in what we want to buy what we what we want to skip but um jen what pieces have you lived in this summer well shared tops obviously yes are matching in them yeah they're actually just so comfortable and quite forgiving um so you know if you sort of go for a big dinner doesn't feel like they're sort of clingy and they're I mean this is quite a sort of cheap material but it's it feels very cool and then also um I have about four maybe five shorts and shirts sets that I like a co-ords yeah co-ords um which also I just think a good investment because in the winter you can layer the shirt with a t-shirt underneath the jacket on top shorts you can pair with a little waistcoat if you have a kind of similar color so I've yeah I've got loads of those and you can dress them up and dress them down and they're very lightweight to travel with so yeah that's kind of been my go-to this summer you wear that well seen you in them before yeah into it nice but I feel like useful as well yeah short situation yeah um linen I feel like I mean it's a bit of a summer classic but I've lived in linen this year I feel like it's just nice keeps you nice and cool um also wide leg trousers I love a wide leg trouser yeah sort hide a multitude of sins um and my other one is probably this is unexpected for me but boxer shorts oh yeah yeah i'm not quite brave enough to wear them to the office the girls that do it i'm like amazing um but at home i've been living in like kind of a white oversized t-shirt and a little sort of stripy boxer situation um uniqlo is where i've been going i love that are they actual boxers then they are actual boxes yes from the men's section a hole up oh they've got a button one i think they're a button situation because they have a hole but they are so comfy like seriously so comfy and i've been wearing them with like sort of tube socks and like adidas trainers so it's quite like it's quite 90s footballer like do you know what I mean yeah yeah bloke or I'm not queen of the queen of the floaty dress well I'm just lazy basically and I just want one thing it's an instant outfit yeah yeah who's got time for that well you two do that's why the co-ords co-ords are quite good though because they are again like an instant you know you don't have to engage your brain in the morning I just don't want to have to think about it so I'm kind of the same with like beauty rituals is that I just want simple yeah over the summer literally over the summer um so yeah I'm a dresser's I'm a dressers girl and i feel very lucky because i've designed a collaboration which means i've got a wardrobe full now so i don't really have to think too much about it which is very lucky um what summer fashion trend are you loving actually let's do loathing and then we'll do loving what do you what are you like no thing is tricky um i feel bad saying well no do you know what this is just a personal thing um capri pants capri trousers yeah pushes i think that's just giving you like no do you know what i quite like i yes slight ptsd um but also i everyone's gonna look but i have no ankles and it's fine like it's not but i just don't have any like my legs just go into my feet um so i can't wear them so there's probably actually just it's an edge of like jealousy of like i wish i could pull that look off but i just don't have you know because because that they're just i feel like it was asking people to it was already hard to pull off the first time around like a pedal pusher nobody did very well right yeah maybe except for like yeah and also the sardine summer that everyone's into i really want a fish necklace but i do feel like a fraud because i don't like fish but i want it because it looks cute are you allergic i am allergic to some but i just i just don't like them i know i get that it's like their environment like when you're in the sea obviously it's their home but i just hate it when it's also they're not cute but like they are i don't understand that because they are it's so cute the trend but how how is it cute because fish aren't nemo's cute there's a daisy london one of polly's collection yeah that's really cute the tail wiggles they're super cute but i don't really understand how how that's happened what about a bit of lobster those lobster like knits they're cute oh the lobsters yeah i like that i like those um mine is probably i think loathing's a bit strong yeah sorry i take it back i take it back um butter yellow i i think it's gorgeous it just it's Not for me.
28:36I'm so shocked. Not one of my colours. Yeah. Have you got quite a warm undertone to your skin? Yeah, I prefer like a mustard, if that makes sense. Yeah, okay. But I think butter does look gorgeous on some people. Yeah, that's my favourite summer trend right now is butter yellow. Yeah. I just want to look like a stick of butter all year round, actually. Any that you're loathing? Oh, loathing. It's only really a personal thing because I've got, really exposing myself here, clammy face, clammy feet. the mesh like the mesh shoes i just slip slide all over the place these are not these are these mesh no they do you mean the jelly like is that what you mean jelly yeah like the no the actual like mesh shoes they're just just not conducive to hot feet really yeah overshare sorry about that um we've kind of we've done like outfit combos but what about food what are you cooking what are you eating what summer do you want to plate um a lot of barbecues obviously but my so my husband for years badgered me about wanting to buy a big green egg and I was like we had an 80 pound barbecue for 8 years it served us perfectly well and this thing is crazy money and he's like no no no and eventually he had one of those bank accounts that like saves money for you the money box thing so like when you spend when you buy coffee it puts aside 50p anyway he ended up with enough money to buy one of these things so I was like fine treat yourself and also it's his money so I think I can't stop him but he loves it and I reap the benefits so he's done like reverse searing steaks which is when what does that even mean it's when you cook it low and slow first so it's like really really tender and then you kind of fire it at the end so it gets kind of crispiness so it's just super tender oh wow he's done like chickens in there um and so we do a lot of sort of barbecued meat with um like mexican-y sides so like a nice corn slaw i'll make some tacos so that kind of um like summery crunchy vibrant spicy food or anything i eat has to have spice in it so yeah it's making me really hungry um or in what sounds yum yeah come on over yeah um i feel like i really strip it back for summer um a greek salad it's kind of my go-to i need i need cold so i can't really be having like you need to get good feta though don't you that's good feta and good oil is key but i love a greek salad um and tapas i love spanish food so give me all the aioli and the potatoes forever i feel like yeah that's oh a pageron pepper loads of salt yeah it's a tapas you're a good cook actually what are you cooking i really i'm really in my korean phase at the moment cooking it yeah so i'm like doing like a korean barbecue jjang yeah a lot of goji jjang yeah okay i'm like obsessed with everything greek yogurt i'm obviously i've been like absolved into the protein hype of the world right now so i'm like yeah greek yogurt on this not cottage cheese i thought that would be a step too far because people are blending the cottage cheese to be like one step too many it's what it is um so yes there's a lot of korean barbecue yeah and obviously picky bits because that is the best part i have a picky bit yeah what is your what's your best picky bit what's your favorite picky bit so i was just away actually with some friends so like every night we would barbecue and then we would have picky bits like the next day for lunch but one of the things that we did a lot of was um peaches like broken up with mozzarella and then just with some basil and um i guess it's that less of a picky bit that's more of a salad yeah that's not a picky bit no okay a picky bit too are you talking about like a sort of marks and sparks yeah grab it and go i've just cocktail sausage i'm easy to please okay yeah tiny sausage here's jen like peaches burrata yeah i know i'm all nothing gal i'm either like a cheap cocktail sausage or a burrata salad no i'm doing or what's your picky bit of choice um i love an olive nothing like nice i'm not coming to your picnic these don't these aren't my favorite bit what do you want i want those so you know that they're like meat and cheese cigarillos situations that um exactly what you mean three for eight yeah three for eight on the day i'm gonna get some on the way home but i don't like those ones no preferable when there's a yellow stick i like a little artichoke too you know like the sort of yeah i like an artichoke as well eyebrow here's me on a cheese stick yeah cheese and pineapple um what what's your favorite uk staycation this time of year uk staycation so i've just come back from a weekend in brighton and i really really love that it's it's kind of nostalgic for me because i used to go there when i was little um did that sort of walk along the pier fish and chips ice cream um we actually stayed like literally right on on the seafront at the grand and it was just it was just really nice also I feel like when you're on the coast it's a little bit blustery so it's not necessarily like super super hot so if you don't love it super hot it's like a nice slightly cooler UK staycation yeah I'm coastal girl Brighton and then I mentioned like the Isle of Man I love as well official PR for the Isles Orange yeah Jen what's your staycation spot of choice probably the southwest so I grew up mostly in Somerset so I have friends down there still and you just sort of travel anywhere further down so Dorset Jurassic Coast is beautiful um and then Devon I love Dartmoor because even though it doesn't have the sea it has gorgeous like rivers you can sort of swim in and stuff and then Cornwall sorry further down in Devon my friend's mum lives in Sulcombe so we go down there a couple times a year and um it feels quite Sulcombe I think people think it's going to be really she-she and kind of super touristy but it feels quite small and local still so they have this great little restaurant called the winking prawn which you can just get like crab sandwiches at the ferryman in is a pub you sit and just watch boats come and go so that's uh that's kind of where i like to kind of have my little weekends away yeah it's very picturesque uh well my best friend lives well she lives in bournemouth and when we were like in our early 20s we used to call it the hamptons when we'd go and visit oh yeah let's go to the hamptons for the weekend like drink pints on the beach in Bournemouth um so we've upgraded to Rose on the beach in Bournemouth but there's a lovely little park like Hengisbury Head is really gorgeous they've now got these like ice baths and saunas on the beach as Bournemouth's really got an upgrade so yeah it's really easy to get to and it's it's quite it's it's fun it's really fun my memories of Bournemouth are like dirty clubs so I need to upgrade to Rose on the beach what is your what's your summer of choice what's the summer of choice your drink of choice for the summer again I've got like I've got like a spicy marg yeah classic or a lager shandy okay because and by I don't know you can answer this question because you're much younger than me I was with my friend yesterday who's kind of on the edge of gen z and she's 29 and she didn't know what a shandy was do you know what a shandy is my friend's love it's not for me because I don't know I can't handle a whole pint is lemonade and lemonade and lager yeah yeah yeah or if i'm feeling really like manly i'll have a lager top instead which is like a little bit of lemonade but yeah super refreshing very refreshing drink and also if you're with friends and they're buying around getting a spicy mug that's going to be like in london 14 quid i should like a bit of an arsehole ordering so i'll get a lager shandy instead to keep things cheaper i'm very basic with rosé with ice obviously with ice and then it's just water so it doesn't really count for anything it's hydrating um how are we keeping the summer going after august kind of rolls around and the days start to get a tiny bit darker so well i want to know like what are some of the ways you hold on to like that summer feeling yeah i try and hold on to it with a little bit of sport so i'm a golfer girly i'm trying it around yeah and it's not so impressive well i didn't say i was good by the way just to put that out there but it's such a fun activity so I'll do it with my boyfriend we'll kind of go out together but it's one of those sports where when it's super super hot it's kind of less enjoyable so it's actually such a good one for kind of late late August sort of early September you can sort of do it and it's a little bit cooler so yeah get out there the golf so nice I played golf last week and I was atrocious.
37:07I was conned. I thought I was doing pitch and putt and I was conned into the actual nine holes of goal. And there's people obviously in the hole behind you watching how bad you are. It was definitely embarrassing. Was it bad that you thought, I don't want to do this again? Was it bad that you thought, I want to get better? No, no, no. After the second hole, I was like, how can we get out here? Like I don't want to get to the ninth and have a pint. It was also really expensive. Just go to the driving range. It's a lot cheaper. Yeah. Jen, how are you holding on to summer feeling? So two kind of little tips, I suppose.
37:38One thing is any like really summery fragrance that you're wearing in the summer. So I have a couple that basically just smell like fancy sun cream. So I'll just keep wearing those, you know, until they run out. And then another thing that I try and do now is wherever I go away, whether it's, you know, a little town or a new city or a little resort. Well, I know you're a cat girl. I am a cat girl, yeah. So like a branded cat. But I just actually was recently in a sweet little town and I bought this necklace. which is a little horseshoe sweet and um it came on this rope but you can obviously it's independent so you can put it on a gold chain so i think buying a little piece of jewelry or a cap or something that's gonna then just like anytime you wear it through the rest of the year just remind you of that little trip it's it's nice it's a nice evening for summer isn't it yeah yeah i like that and it's not just a magnet that's gonna sit on the fridge oh but i also love a tacky magnet yeah like the tackier the better yeah i've traded the magnets for cameras you have how many caps no it's embarrassing i think i'm over 50 plus now do you know i actually didn't think that's that bad it's bad it's bad when i don't actually suit a cap i've just forced it on myself as now do you see other cat hats no none no i've got like because because my hair's so curly it kind of looks like goes out like hagrid style hair with under a triangle mine what's your favourite of all your caps oh I went to French Polynesia score like 10 pounds in the brat jar but I went there and I got a cap from like the most beautiful hotel I've ever stayed in and that's like my proudest bit do you wear it all the time oh that's nice yeah I do wear all of them and my Wimbledon cap is really special to me that's nice yeah big cap energy yeah I love holding on to summer feelings through music I like I curate like a summer playlist over however many weeks of summer is and then whenever I'm just feeling a bit sad that it's not summer anymore just hit go on that but it's kind of like old summer songs it's not necessarily like current summer but yeah ones that have ones that are attached to like really core some memories like yeah the group trip or like a great evening with friends or something I've needed to like move my ass to the gym or something like that's motivating which artist is on there most would you say oh um give us a flavor it's probably just like ibiza chip and zach brian because jen and i love country music country music yeah country music just feels warm yeah anyway doesn't it it's all just it's uplifting most of it lifting cheesy or devastatingly sad it doesn't really have a sad and warm yeah um any skincare or makeup hacks for keeping the summer glow all year round Jen hydration for sure yeah just in terms of locking in especially if you've got a bit of a tan and want to keep it hydration hydration hydration basically yeah and then also just um if you find like a nice uh like bronzy base so any kind of primer that has a bit of bronze in it and that just kind of give a nice subtle tan to the skin yeah lovely when the sun's gone away yeah I'm with you on that I love a glow booster I love a bit of liquid bronzer mixed in with my foundation or even just like a liquid highlighter mixed in I feel like that just gives my skin a little extra something and finally wrapping this up on how are you keeping your fashion going to give you a summer feeling do you repurpose your fat like do you repurpose your clothes from summer to winter how do you transition this wardrobe yeah I'm quite um miserly so I don't like buying too many things that I'm only going to be able to wear on hot days anyway so like I was saying with the the sets that I buy you know the shirts can be worn all through the year um and shorts I actually kind of refuse to wear tights so I went to New York last year and it was like three degrees and I had shorts on but then like eight layers on top and bare legs yeah with bare legs yeah dedicated yeah I just hate the feeling of tights um and stockings are too sophisticated when do people wear stockings with like suspenders so uh shandy stockings yeah shandy and stockings should be on my bio um so no i don't i don't buy specific things for summer but um but i try and just buy things that can kind of be transitional through the year obviously i have a few little summer dresses and things but yeah i feel like like the dresses you wear like you could wear those with black boots and definitely yeah i just throw a leather jacket on top put some chunky boots on yeah i'm the same i think it's the same with beauty and fashion like if you invest in good products that work really well for your skin or you rest invest in great pieces that you have longevity in your wardrobe you don't need to have this big shift from season to season you just you just have to kind of get to know what works for your body and for your face agree and i feel like also swapping in different jackets like i love a suede jacket for kind of september october but I feel like that's, you could just chuck that over a little dress.
42:40Coords. I feel like if you've got a shorts co-ord, I love to actually sometimes buy the trousers as well. Well, even this, I thought this was a co-ord, but it's not, it's just, yeah. No, no, no, this is just unintentional matching. Yeah, I also love monochrome. Like it's, when you wake up in the morning, you're like, I don't know what to wear. All one colour, super easy. Yeah. And obviously we're wearing our SPF in the summer, in the autumn, in the spring, and in the winter and when you travel yes on a plane yeah yeah on a plane if it's a daytime flight and it's sunny yeah because you're nearer the sun adding that but it does feel you know sometimes super bright yeah on a plane if if it's in the daytime yeah sometimes if i just need a glow up i'll just add more product in the day even if i'm working from home i'm just like i look drab i'm like oh quick reapply yeah just good to go thank you all so so much for coming you i believe everybody has got the invisible SPF 50 in their bag so no excuses not to be applying on Factor 50 and a huge thank you to Simple to Oren to Jen for imparting so much wisdom and thank you all very much for coming
44:03Thank you.
