In short
Beauty and confidence for on-camera performance, plus skincare and makeup routines; includes a Clarins Double Serum Foundation promo.
Guests
AJ Odudu, UK broadcaster/presenter; grew up in Blackburn, Lancashire, worked in a call centre, retail and as a bar worker before TV presenting; credits family support and her mum for confidence. Hodge (Hodge’s Beauty Secrets), beauty-focused host/guest; discusses her “armor” approach to getting dressed and her skincare/makeup habits.
Key claims
Confidence comes from grounding yourself in your journey and still performing even when nervous or not feeling your best; beauty evolves with age—know what works for you. Skincare routine matters: serum, under-eye cream, moisturizer, and SPF (they debate order but agree SPF is last). Fewer, smarter makeup steps can prevent pilling.
Notable examples
Clarins Double Serum Foundation combines serum+foundation for dry skin, glowy satin finish and 12-hour wear; shade D2N. AJ describes “foundation lips” and stiff hair trends from earlier years; Hodge uses lip liner heavily and takes many supplements, plus LED/red-light and under-eye patches.

We are here to have a conversation about beauty, not as perfection, but as confidence, performance and self-expression. We're going to talk about how beauty evolves from on-camera confidence, skincare that really works, our beauty essentials. Yes. Whilst I've got your attention, please do subscribe whether you are listening to us or watching us on YouTube.
0:29Charlotte Collins:hit that subscribe button.
0:37Charlotte Collins:Let's get ready. I love it. We are at Wispy. Do you feel beautiful? Well, oh my God, you look beautiful today. Do you feel beautiful?
0:44Hodge Templeman:You look gorgeous. You look gorgeous. Thank you. Do you? I feel gorgeous today. You do look baggy. I feel stunning. And also, I feel like I've got to credit you guys for that because honestly, I've walked into this room and you've exuded such positive vibes and energy. That's so nice. And so I'm like, come on, from the inside out, you should feel gorgeous.
1:05Charlotte Collins:Let's start with what we're wearing. Hodge, take it away. I am wearing shoes from Balenciaga. Oh, let's see. Very old though. Stunning. Stunning. Stockings. Can I just tell you? Hodge doesn't wear tights. She wears like slushy little stockings. Hold ups. Hold ups to work.
1:22Hodge Templeman:I'm obsessed. She's that kind of girl. I love that. I need it. I actually like, that's what I need to graduate my underwear too. Like it needs to be like attached to like. Yeah. I mean I feel like I do.
1:32Charlotte Collins:They're sticky ones.
1:33Hodge Templeman:I feel like I do really good but all those sticky ones. Yeah.
1:36Charlotte Collins:They're like the kind with lace around here that then have like plastic.
1:39Hodge Templeman:Yeah. Getting dressed is like armor for me. So I feel like if I feel hot. Yeah. And my makeup's good and that then I'm like I'm going to have a good day. Is that good? Does your underwear always match? Yeah.
1:52Charlotte Collins:Yeah. I bet it does. Does yours? Absolutely. The color. Yeah the color. Yeah. I wear a pretty basic kind of thing. Okay, okay. Just a black thong and a black bra. Okay. Thank you for the detail. Excellent. Wait, so hang on. So you're wearing, sorry, just to be clear, you're wearing a thong and a leather skirt. Yeah. Without tights together. Yeah, is that dirty? No, I just, I think I'd be sweaty. You wouldn't. Do you think?
2:16Hodge Templeman:No, no, no, you wouldn't.
2:17Charlotte Collins:Leather is very breathable.
2:18Hodge Templeman:I've got leather trousers on today. Well. Said no one ever. No, it is. Like all of the natural fabric, are naturally more breathable. If you was wearing pleather, that is sweaty. If you was wearing PVC, that's sweaty.
2:37Charlotte Collins:So hang on, what is this? This is leather.
2:38Hodge Templeman:Leather, well done. From next. It can handle a thong.
2:42Charlotte Collins:It can handle a thong and then hand the suspenders. No one's going to want to borrow this skirt. I'm good. Ever. I was like, what is that? I'm good. I'm good. I was really like, maybe rubbed up and down against it. And then this jumper is plume. Gorgeous cashmere. Beautiful. And your earrings? Earrings are by Alana. They're clip-ons.
3:03Hodge Templeman:She's a clip-on girl. Yeah, I feel, I've got quite a small head. So clip-ons sort of hug my face. I know what you mean, you can wear them closer. Yeah.
3:13Charlotte Collins:AJ, what are you going? AJ's looking at me like, you are extraordinary. You've learned a lot about her
3:18Hodge Templeman:in the last two minutes, yeah. I'm like, whoa, is it too early to say that I'm wearing Spanx now? We're overshare, isn't it? Buckle in I'm not going to divulge on the underwear but it's great but I have got some Louboutin shoes on that is brown chocolate gorgeous and I've gone tarnel with some leather trousers that are by EZR I've wore them on the telly a few times and I get lots of compliments for them are they barrel or straight they are they are what they are and I'm wearing a Frankie shop shirt and tie love that I love the stripes in it because I feel like it means that when it creases a little bit you can just sort of get away with it any shirt will crease very frustrating what's in my ears oh these are my M &S chunky gold situation here and my vintage engagement stop it oh my gosh it's engaged and you can tell the girl who's engaged because their nails are on point they have to be done now
4:22Charlotte Collins:I really like the shape of your nails Oh, do you? Yeah, I keep thinking about if I should be going back to short and square. They're a really good nail shape. I love it.
4:29Hodge Templeman:I feel like short nails. I really did try the stiletto. Super long stiletto. I love it. But I was scratching myself in my sleep. I know. I was waking up scarves. Yeah, it's a lot. What are you wearing?
4:41Charlotte Collins:I am wearing, this is from Sir, this blazer. I don't know if it's a bit big on me, but I'm quite enjoying the comfort of it. The trousers are old Ralph Lauren. Boots are Kate. These, the specs. Daisy on our team put these on her Instagram story and I just swiped up and bought them. Like that is influence. I like your hair clip. Yeah, thank you so much. That's from J. Crew. I bought it in Miami. Thank you. That's lovely. It's unlocked a new way of wearing my hair for me. Didn't used to wear it half up and now I got this clip and I'm like, oh. That like gives you another day of not washing your hair.
5:11Charlotte Collins:This is what happened today. A lot of dry shampoo. I love that. Anyway, we should probably talk about beauty. It's gonna take a while ladies. No, no, no, it's good. Strap in. I mean you said before do we feel beautiful today I mean we are like the ultimate victims of being on camera all day long and therefore absolutely putting ourselves apart how are you with seeing yourself on camera all day long in terms of how it makes you feel about yourself
5:34Hodge Templeman:great it actually does make me feel really good about myself to be honest how do we be more like that
5:38Charlotte Collins:no because honestly
5:39Hodge Templeman:your makeup is on
5:40Charlotte Collins:no it's not even just
5:42Hodge Templeman:about how I look it's about all of the things that I've overcome to get there to get on camera it's not easy for me it's never been easy for me It was an easy journey. You know, my road from Blackburn, Lancashire, to London, where I'm on camera. And, you know, being a TV presenter is my full-time job. It wasn't my full-time job. I was, like, working in a call centre, working in retail, as a bar woman. Do you know what I mean? And for me, I watched myself and I go, whoa, that's amazing. So you, like, ground yourself by going, I'm so lucky to be here. I've worked my ass off, I deserve it. Yeah, that's what I think.
6:20Hodge Templeman:You've got to be more like that. And additionally, what I think, outside of that, because, you know, even way before, many years ago, when I'd still be on camera and not very good and also not, you know, doing what I'm doing now, I still would think, gosh, I was really nervous that day and that's what I achieved. Or I didn't feel my best that day and I still managed to perform. You cheerlead yourself. And so I feel like that's what we all should do. You know, like, you've just had a Chinese. You're feeling a little bit sluggish. It's been a long day. And you should watch this back and think, I still managed to have, like, a very uplifting conversation.
7:00Hodge Templeman:Do your job. Put your best foot forward. And deliver a piece of content that hopefully everyone at home will also enjoy. And that's what makes me feel, you know, excited about watching myself back on TV. How can you get into that mindset? Was that your mum? Yeah. I love that. I need to do that for my girls. Yes. Yeah. I feel like my mum and, you know, all of my family actually have always been so, so supportive of me. And, you know, really, you know, the best thing about family, sometimes it's like the worst thing as well. You're like, you know, all of my deepest, darkest secrets and insecurities.
7:34Hodge Templeman:But because they know all of that, they are good at reminding you of your journey and how far you've come and all of the improvements. You know, I think it's within human nature to always move the goalposts, always strive for more, always wanting to move forward. But actually, even a slow motion is still motion. Yeah. We're still moving. We're still developing. We're always growing. We're always getting better. And my mum has always installed that work ethic and that driving me and just, you know, remember. She's an excellent reminder all the time of who I am, why I started. Yeah, I love that.
8:16Hodge Templeman:You know, still to this day, it helps me take the best bits out of literally every experience, even the really awful ones. Do you know what I mean?
8:23Charlotte Collins:Well, that's so positive. We were talking before about how you've got four, is it four brothers? Five brothers. We've both got brothers too. And I think there's almost something in brothers lifting you up as well. And like, I guess none of us have sisters, so we don't know what that dynamic is like, but I feel like - I do actually have two sisters. Oh, you've got sisters as well. Oh, my God, your mum. Yeah, whoa. Really on a squad. I'm surprised you're a special name. One, two.
8:48Hodge Templeman:What number are you? I'm number six. Oh, wow. A fraction. Yeah.
8:53Charlotte Collins:Six of eight. Love that. But I feel like brothers can really bring you up. The other day, I was in the car with my brother, and I was talking about how no men ever hit on me. I'm married, but I was like, no boys ever come and approach me. No one ever hits on me. That's because you're a boss bitch. Without missing a B, he goes, it's the way you dress. He was like, not in a mean way, but just like, no one. Do you know what I feel like? But they will tell it to you straight, but like in a really positive way. Like, you know, he's not like being mean. It's like really, I don't know, I feel like there's something almost quite affirming about the way your brother speaks to you.
9:20Hodge Templeman:Yeah, absolutely. I couldn't agree more. I've got five brothers, four of whom are older. I got on with all of them. And actually my big brother, Ags, Aga Girl, he's amazing. He was at university and he was in Blackburn Library. and whilst he was doing his assignment on the library computer, he saw this advert for me for work experience at the BBC and knowing that I wanted to be a TV presenter one day, he said, oh, I've seen this thing that I think that you should apply for and helped me with my application, like spell checked it all, you know. Oh, sweet. You know, from such a young age, I've had that support network, you know, within my family.
10:06Hodge Templeman:I remember my big brother, Oki, who's a professor of law at Cambridge University, who I literally was like, he never watches or is interested in anything that I do. And then once I was working on this show called the 519 show at the BBC, which was this online show where no one was online, nothing was online. And it was like this random show that we'd record in a basement. I thought, no one's watching this and no one's ever interacting. in and he emailed in and we you know we would read out emails live on the show and it was like okay oh do do wait that's my brother and it turns out he'd watched every single episode of the 519 show and recorded every single episode he's recorded every single episode of everything that i've ever done ever we need to do with this is your life i want to meet all the brothers
10:59Charlotte Collins:and the sisters but they also do
11:02Hodge Templeman:you know obviously they cut me off and they sort that out I think my little brother saw me on the red carpet once and he was like you need to get your nails done

11:10Charlotte Collins:thank you so much for feedback he was like
11:12Hodge Templeman:don't forget the toenails don't forget the toenails thank you it's just easy to keep it grounded yeah it's so true it's quite interesting to see how we've changed over the years I feel I look better now than when I first started SL I agree
11:25Charlotte Collins:I'd like to look better now than when I first started I mean thank God because imagine like much better to think that than be like i look so much better yeah 10 years ago like i feel like the best thing about getting older is you know your style yeah you know the makeup that works like some of the makeup mistakes i've made back in the day i feel like now even when we have shoots and stuff and i have my makeup done professionally i feel like do a better job yeah i get that what's like the biggest thing you've learned like what did you used to do that you're now like oh my god i used to try and get definition here so i just used to draw a white line with an eyeliner.
11:59It's so odd. Underneath my eyes.
12:03Charlotte Collins:And did you blend it or was it just like a solid? Wow. Lovely to see that. And then I went to uni. I went to uni and my girlfriends at uni started copying me.
12:14Hodge Templeman:Oh, princess. It didn't work on anyone else. Yeah, yeah. It didn't work on you. It didn't work on anyone else. My mum. I remember my mum going, are we short? Yes, mum. It looks great. when did you phase that out i think about 19 oh right okay i came from wales girl
12:37Charlotte Collins:different times different times is there anything you used to do in your 30s makeup wise that you now don't do um i don't think i wore enough blush well we like we like blusher here just all the blusher just keep it coming and also i feel i didn't like i overline my lips to have a defined line and I didn't do that and I feel that works for me. Makeup looks amazing today. You are glowing. It's foundation. We'll come to that. AJ, what about you? Anything that you used to do beauty wise that you're now like, I cannot believe I used to do that.
13:10Hodge Templeman:Well, first thought, genuinely I just don't remember that many products that were available to me in Blackburn so it was just not the time for makeup. I actually really just focused on skincare, moisturising, all of that jazz. That was our thing. But then when I was introduced to makeup, I just remember the foundation lips. Oh my God. We did the foundation lips hard. Mine was concealer lips. Why? Very dry.
13:37Charlotte Collins:Why would you try and hide your lips? It makes, like thinking about it now feels painful. Like the dryness of it. It's so dry.
13:43Hodge Templeman:So dry. But we all had foundation lips. It was awful. And my foundation back then wasn't even, you know, the right shape. No.
13:52Charlotte Collins:Imagine. Yeah. it's just this like wash but like no features just eyes just eyes orange face and eyes yeah and the little eyebrows yeah yeah exactly terrible yeah I feel like the hair as well was a big thing as well like destroying the hair listen you know
14:08Hodge Templeman:I use the eye in my hair and then snatch it up and then do the two little oh yeah oh yeah I remember it's quite an iconic look to be honest like it's basically but gelled yeah like super stiff oh like the ringlets were stiff No, no, no, no, no. You'd have like straight bits at the front. You looked like ants. It was ridiculous. Ant antennas. They were antennas pointing down. Like why? Yeah. Our mums would be like, you are not making the best of yourself. So we've really made it through.
14:38Charlotte Collins:I mean, we're all on camera a lot. What are the kind of beauty things, you know, other than just like knowing that you're doing a good job and that we're capable of doing this. What are, for both of you, like the beauty things that you know are going to make you feel confident when you're on camera?
14:53Hodge Templeman:just know for a fact that when I wake up in the morning, I've gotta have amazing skin prep. Like fresh face, I'm like brush my eyebrows and I want the most amazing, you know, moisturizer, I love masks, I love face masks. But I do my serum and then I have an under eye cream and then I put my moisturizer on and I put my SPF on last. Is that the right order? I don't know. Is it? I do SPF first. I don't know. Sometimes I'm like,
15:23Charlotte Collins:get it. SPF's last. On top of your moisturiser? I feel like it is on top. Absolutely. It's a waste of time and expensive products then. You're not really doing it right. I've been doing it wrong. Really? Yeah, probably. Does it matter? SPF always last. Why would it matter? Babe, how do you not know that? God, shit. Can I tell you, I turn 35 tomorrow, so I feel like that's when skincare gets real, so it's fine. It's on my last day of 34 that I've learned I've been doing it wrong. It's all important from tomorrow.
15:47Hodge Templeman:That's our gift to you. Happy birthday. so much. Let's go. I'm just going to need to go
15:51Charlotte Collins:and think about that afterwards. And then I just love
15:53Hodge Templeman:like a really nice nourishing foundation. Like I feel like if I've got just a beautiful base. Yeah, I agree. Then like everything that's literally the foundation. Yeah.
16:04Charlotte Collins:Hence why it's got foundation. There's a reason for it. Let's talk about the Clarins Foundation because you've led us in very nicely. Thank you so much. We do have lots more beauty chat to have and I'm sure we will come back to it. But this podcast is in partnership with the Clarins Double Serum Foundation, which we talked about on a podcast recently as well. Where you were saying that you use a serum as well as a foundation. But the beauty of this is that it combines the two. Exactly.
16:23Hodge Templeman:It's so nice for people with dry skin and also people on the gorge. You know what I mean? Sometimes you don't have the three steps. This is it. This is it. And also, I feel like the more layers I put on my face, the more my makeup pills. And I think I've got some, well, I know I've got some acne scarring on my chin and that's where it sort of sits. If there's too many. I found using this, I don't need a primer. because usually I use a glowy base and then I go in with foundation and then I go in with a highlighter on top.
16:53Charlotte Collins:Wow. That's what layers. And before that, you know, my million steps of skincare. So actually I find using this, it is glowy and it's not like bunching up. It's not too much product. Also to find something that is both glowy and last all day is amazing. We had Billie on the podcast last time who'd been wearing it for like eight hours at that point and her skin still looks like absolutely flawless. The coverage is really nice as well The coverage is amazing It's amazing Do you know what shade you use? Would you like to use that as well? I am using Or either of you
17:23Hodge Templeman:D2N D2N I like my shade And then I always like One shade darker Yeah me too Because I love to use it on my cheeks Oh so you do double Like a little double Like a contouring Yeah I feel like it shams my face nicer So it's like I have my base And then I like to sculpt With like on the cheeks And a little bit here And a little bit on the jaw I like that I do Instead of using like a bronzer, use that. Well, yeah, like, yeah, I think basically if I'm, sometimes I'm like, you know, the barely there makeup, right? So the makeup, the no makeup makeup. I love just a couple of foundations for that. Yeah.
17:59Hodge Templeman:Because it's on, but then I don't have to do blusher and bronzer and this and that. I just feel like two foundations, a couple of shades, bosh.
18:07Charlotte Collins:Yeah. Love that. Like, we're together. Well, there are 37 shades of this. So there you go. You could beat all the colors. It's good. It is good. Hodge, what about you? What is the product, other than foundation, that you are like, that's what I need to feel good on camera? I honestly feel like lip liner is a big thing for me. So I do my makeup and then my lips I do last because I take my millions of supplements and then I put my lipstick on after that.
18:32Hodge Templeman:I'm taking millions of supplements at the moment. I swear down. I'm rattling.
18:37Charlotte Collins:Yeah, she's a walking pillbox. We are rattling. What are you taking?
18:41Hodge Templeman:No one's told us, but we are.
18:43Charlotte Collins:That's what that noise is.
18:46Hodge Templeman:Wait, what are you taking? Oh my gosh. I take B12. I take multivitamins. I take an iron supplement. I love magnesium, zinc. I also take creatine. I take probiotic, prebiotic. Yeah, it's all very good. Omega 3. Omega 3. You're just naming something. Follic acid as well. All very good for the brain health. Yeah. I love that. You take all those things. I need my cognitive function on. I know. Yeah. And then I put out a smoothie and then I put like sachets in that. Oh my gosh. So that is my probiotic and a fiber thing, which is a, it helps your metabolism. Oh. And then like a hormone balancer.
19:28Charlotte Collins:I'd love to know what your smoothie tastes like. Because I feel like there's what else is in it other than just pills. Blueberries. It's just medicine. It's just medicine. Blueberries, spinach and kefir milk. It sounds revolting. I can't lie. The kids watch me and they're like, Mommy, why do you drink something you don't like? You can make it nicer. I want to stay alive for you.
19:48Hodge Templeman:But stop on it. Okay, then you take all of the supplements. And then I do my lip. There you do your lip. But I feel so naked with that lip. Me too. I'm almost like, oh my God.
19:59Charlotte Collins:But I feel like I top up my lip liner like 20 times a day. When you come to our desk, there's always somebody lining their lips. Wow. It's like a Mexican wave. Because we watch somebody doing it and they're like, oh shit, they must know the camera's coming something's happening yeah or we must have a meeting yeah what about you honey um lip liner the same and blush if i have to leave the house like naturally but i want just like something tiny bit of concealer lip liner and tidy my brows i'll always tidy my brows but like remember before microblading i know but i still have to tidy them up but yeah microblading was a really it was really useful really useful yeah i did it was She's a great girl.
20:39Charlotte Collins:Yeah. Oh yeah, we went to the same person.
20:41Hodge Templeman:She's really good. She's amazing this girl. I feel like scared to touch my eyebrows. You've got brilliant eyebrows. They frame your eye, like they frame your whole face. But all it does is add. It's not gonna take away anything. Yours is so good though, watch you do to it. My eyebrows are actually really good. Yeah, they're really good. Thank God. Thank you to my parents. Do you know what?
20:58Charlotte Collins:No, sorry, sorry. Because I do think that we, sorry to interrupt, but like we laugh sometimes at the death, like last week I was like, I got my cut, my blonde done. I think this is the most unbelievable colour job I've ever had I don't think that's me being arrogant I don't do it I just pay somebody to do it but she's done an amazing job right I was like how good is my colour and I think it's really nice it's so English to be like oh everything about me is disgusting and horrible like your eyebrows are amazing not maybe no and good for you
21:24Hodge Templeman:for saying it I am like no obviously I'll have days where I'm like sure but you asked me at the top no you feel gorgeous and I was like I feel gorgeous girl you are gorgeous They're gorgeous and my eyebrows are on point. I tell you what though, I don't know where they've come from. Genetically, my whole family, I'm the only one with brows. Oh. I am the only one with brows. That's why you're scared to touch them. From day dot, I've had eyebrows and they've been great. And so I'm like, I can't touch them. But they're so flat. Do you cut them? No. I do calm them though. I don't cut them. Mine is so straight.
21:58Charlotte Collins:But you can trim them.
21:59Hodge Templeman:I've got Afro eyebrows and I just push them down. Yeah. And they're good to go. Yeah. Obviously, I've got a little pencil in there. guys I've had professional help today
22:08Charlotte Collins:we're just staring at you I'm just gonna I'm like someone's done the face but I do
22:12Hodge Templeman:I do do my own makeup of course yeah but when I do my own makeup like I said I'm like we just do a bit of this do a bit of that 12 foundations later yeah yeah
22:21Charlotte Collins:wow what's interesting that's what makes you confident with makeup on but what beauty wise what makes you confident without you talked about your skincare routine yeah what like day to day gives you confidence
22:33Hodge Templeman:I love like rich moisturizers I want the moisturizer I like a light moisturizer during the day and a heavy one at night time I love serum I love face masks I love under eye patches I love the little pimple covers I love them because they stop me touching my spots and then they're gone isn't that interesting we should just stop touching those spots I've got the LED mask that makes me look crazy at bedtime, but I'm like, I love a bit of red light therapy at night. Just love it. It makes me fall asleep better as well. On a plane, particularly, or if I'm having trouble sleeping, I even wear those space masks where they, like, heat up on your eyes.
23:21Hodge Templeman:So good. And I just feel like they're quite soothing. I just feel like around my eyes is where I carry a lot of fatigue. Isn't that hard when lashes are? Do you have lashes all the time? Or is it just, oh no. No, just strip lashes. Because I find sleep masks with lashes so hard.
23:33Charlotte Collins:I think you can get under eye patches though that heat up that heat up yeah so they don't have to go over your whole eyes yeah so nice my husband was at a hotel in Tokyo last week and they put them on his pillow every night so he brought home a stash for me
23:44Hodge Templeman:you've reminded me oh my gosh I'm gonna use them also do you use the little rolling pin for your face I love it what are they made out of like the stone
23:53Charlotte Collins:like the marbly ones like jade yeah they can be jade exactly or like rose quartz
23:58Hodge Templeman:rose quartz that's what it's made out of I've got a rose quartz mask which I leave in the fridge all day and at bedtime I'm like it's so good
24:08Charlotte Collins:I take my makeup off as soon as I get home I wish I must get better at that I can't even want to go upstairs I know that's so lazy but I get home and I'm like I'm on this floor now but do you not get changed? yeah I do but then there's another few stairs I mean it's so lazy but it's just another few stairs like up to get changed and then there's another few stairs to the bathroom and I just I know I feel so clean I literally roll back downstairs and I'm like, this is it until 10 o 'clock. That is good that you do that. Yeah, and then I sort of, you know, put the kids, we'll put Coco to bed and then the other two is still roaming around.
24:41That's what happens when your kids are old. Just let them run free. Just do what they want. I'm like, I wanna go to bed. And then I go downstairs with like my armor of my LED masks and like if I'm doing a mask, James is like, oh Jesus, what have you got tonight? You know the ones that melt into the face? Oh, yes. So good. After half an hour.
25:03Hodge Templeman:Oh yeah. And you can see it's going in where it turns clear, not white. Some of them are like eight hours. Yeah. You can get like eight hours.
25:10Charlotte Collins:I don't know if I could sleep in one though. No, agreed. Feels weird.
25:13Hodge Templeman:Well, I think I'm just too fidgety at night. That's who I am.
25:16Charlotte Collins:How has being confident shifted for both of you? You know, from obviously we're talking about beauty standards, but just in general, I mean, you've talked about the support of your family, kind of what does confidence look like to you now versus when you were in your twenties, younger? girl i think for me it's sort of this is what i look like you know i mean like you just got to embrace it the older you get you know what works for you so i think that is like one of the best bits about getting older is that you sort of know what makes you look good yeah i look good when i've had a damn don't we all and also like sleep is so boring but eight hours sleep is like I really you're getting
25:57Hodge Templeman:eight hours a day I try to she's a liar do you get eight hours a day do you know like 11 till 6 what's that seven hours so probably seven hours gosh that's good how long do you sleep for oh well do you know what I'm a bit of a night I can't lie and then I'm forced out of bed for work so I'm a bit like you have to get out what time do you go to bed if you're just chilling I mean it's like midnight I will try my hardest to be in bed before midnight. And then obviously when I'm - But what are you doing watching TV? Yeah, cause last night I got home quite early
26:33Charlotte Collins:and at 8.30 I was like, well I might as well go to bed because there's nothing going on here. Lush, did you? What? No, I was so bored. But you've got TV on Monday. Still, at 8.30 I was like, let's call this.
26:43Hodge Templeman:No, I don't watch TV until I fall asleep from anything like that. No, no, no, no, no. What do you do then if you're just chilling at home? I like to be socializing, yeah. Every night? Yeah, I know. Don't you? With your fiance? with my fiance are you engaged suddenly left-handed no I just I just I come alive all my ideas I'll sometimes be writing at night and things like that but to be honest I actually feel like I should I need 10 hours a day I need 10 hours of sleep who's got time for that no one
27:21Charlotte Collins:I think when people say they get 10 hours a day they're either lying or they're boring not that I make myself sound that fun with my 8.30 bedtime but like 10 hours you're cutting out a lot of fun you can't it's a lot of light you missed to be clear I didn't actually go to bed at 8.30 but I was like what else am I doing tonight like I was done oh my word I'd never go to bed before like 10 lights off 10.30 okay I'd love but that's early that's like that's James going come on babe yeah you're like on a Monday how tired you are this morning because everyone I'm like oh my god I have to get out I love my bed.
27:54It's so bad. No, I don't look at my phone for bed. That's good. No.
27:57Charlotte Collins:Yeah, me neither. But for how long is good? How long before bed? An hour. Okay. Yeah, probably like half an hour. I read a lot for bed. That's when you read. I will look at my phone, but I won't look at TikTok past nine o 'clock, and that has made a massive difference to my sleep. TikTok really. Yeah.
28:11Hodge Templeman:It's very stimulating. Yeah. Well, I tell you what, I, you know, I think just admitting that you're stimulated by things, sometimes, you know what I mean? Yeah. But I remember watching the traitors, like I got in a little bit later so what time's that on? Eight? Yeah. I watched The Traitors at nine and then I was like I can't do that again. I can't do that again. Oh my God, that's so funny. I literally am so stimulated by my brain. And you're like you stupid people. Yeah. It's obviously The Traitor. Obviously I. I think a lot of TV is like that. Yeah. A lot of TV you can't watch like when it's actually live.
28:44Hodge Templeman:You know, all of the shows that I present on TV they're very adrenaline inducing. TV show.
28:51Charlotte Collins:Especially with Big Brother, something live.
28:53Hodge Templeman:How do you wind down after that? It's so hard. I bet. It's so hard. I'll be like, I'm going to meditate and then five minutes later I'm like, I'm awake. I'm awake. I've done that. There's a candle. Smells great. Bath. I'm trying on things. I read. Reading is really good. Yeah. But you've got to pick a really boring book. A really good book. No, it's got to be boring. Oh, no. No, I pick a boring book for bedtime. Like it's got to be like super long, elaborate sentences. Oh my God. Yeah, that does make me fussy. Do you know what I mean? Like Dickens-y vibes. Yeah. You're like, oh, it's a paragraph of one sentence.
29:34Hodge Templeman:Yeah. Yeah, you like tail off halfway through the sentence and you're like, okay, we'll start this sentence again.
29:40Charlotte Collins:It's like counting sheep, but words.
29:42Hodge Templeman:Yeah. So yeah, me Kindle's like sorting me right out with that.
29:46Charlotte Collins:We've got to move on and talk about multitasking and duos that we love because as we know this is high skincare foundation. It's multitasking. It's a combo that we love. I wanted to ask you both about some combos that you love. So I mean when we were talking about this we were we were riffing off combos we like like Ant and Dec or. Or what works. Combos that are really good together like salt and vinegar crisps and a piece of milk chocolate. It's my favorite taste sensation. Like a Walker's salt and vinegar crisp. Or like a McCoy's, like a really salt and vinegar. And then one little square of dairy milk.
30:20Charlotte Collins:So good. Unbelievable. No, try it. Talk to me about pairings on television. I mean, you are part of many iconic pairings.
30:29Hodge Templeman:Oh, you know, there's Ant and Dec, but there's also me and Vinegar. There's me and Bill Beck. There's me and Emma Billy. These are all great covers. Jaree. All extra covers. Who'd you vibe with the most? All of them. me and Rob Gilligan like we just honestly I've just done such like a variety of TV shows that it's fun to work with different people I love people I like women together I do too which is feels you know remember when Claudia and Tess when Claudia replaced Bruce and everyone was like ah two women but actually it works so well and still to this day yeah
31:07Charlotte Collins:it's fun what makes a good pairing for you like you know when you're match up with somebody and you're like this is good like we know we vibe what what makes that
31:14Hodge Templeman:pairing work just confidence confidence yeah i feel like when you've got two confident people together you just naturally uplift each other there's no competition you want everyone to win you want everyone to do an amazing job and just go on or go to the bar yeah like just something do you know i mean it's it's always really nice and you can always feel that energy on camera yeah You go, oh, like, they respect me and I respect them. It's just fun. Because when they say cut and then you're like, see ya. Like, I feel like you've got to, if you're mates, then you see that on camera. Yeah, but then sometimes you become friends.
31:53Hodge Templeman:You know what I mean? Like, I remember working with Fernan Kerr for the first time and we weren't mates. I'd never met him, actually. And we presented Comic Relief together. And then, actually, that was amazing because, you know, I'd watched him on T4 and all of that. And he was a very generous host. He was super hot back in the day.
32:12Charlotte Collins:Yeah, I see it.
32:14Hodge Templeman:He's still gorgeous. I know he is. But I just, I saw, like, there's a montage of him the other day and I was like, wow. Yeah, T4 Vernon was. We did fancy him. Him and Steve Jones. Well, I mean, he's literally a model. He's the model. Him and Tess. Oh, my God. And Alexa was on TV.
32:29Charlotte Collins:They all started on T4.
32:30Hodge Templeman:Anyway, the combos have been about me.
32:33Charlotte Collins:Well, they are. I'll accept that as the TV answer. Those are all excellent answers. Those are really, really good vibes. What about in film? Oz, you must have some you love on TV. I've got so many. Go on. Richard Gere and Julia Roberts. Yeah, iconic. Runaway Bride. Yeah. Pretty Woman. Yeah. I mean, you just, they're so good together. I love them. I also am obsessed with Hollywood couples, like when people get together in real life. Yeah. Like right now, you know, Timothy and Kylie or like, I feel like Emily Blunt and John Krasinski is like one of my favourite Hollywood couples. Yeah. Okay. Yeah.
33:04Hodge Templeman:I love, like, I genuinely do enjoy J-Lo's relationships. Fascinating. I know. I'm kind of obsessed with it.
33:12Charlotte Collins:Yeah.
33:12Hodge Templeman:She's like, next. She really is.
