In short

Sheerlux Middle East podcast episode about fashion finds and regional brands, plus celebrity/style talk, skincare and social-media hot takes, and charity support during the Lebanon/Palestine crisis.

Guests

Lulu Dahmash, stylist and creative consultant; Hiba Walid, brand and community manager at Level Shoes; they’re sisters-in-law and best friends.

Key claims

Matteo Blézy’s Chanel collection is trending (bags, shoes, low-waist silhouettes); Jacob Elordi’s minimal style and statement pieces are easy for him to pull off; 12-step skincare routines are often unnecessary—basic cleanser, moisturizer, eye cream, serum works; people shouldn’t share intrusive mean thoughts online.

Notable examples

Chanel runway, Tabi shoes (Maison Margiela), Level Shoes thong sandals and pumps, Jill Rodriguez elevated basics, K18 leave-in + Hello Clean shower filter, fringe pearl clutch by Lebanese brand (employs 40% displaced people), Love Story (JFK Jr/Caroline Bessette) and Timothy Chalamet ballet/opera backlash. Charities: Betel Baraka, UNICEF Lebanon, Girls in Lebanon, Zainab Project (Gaza), plus local pet initiatives (No Pets Left Behind UAE, Dubai cat food cans).

0:00Lulu Dahmash:On today's podcast we talk about our favorite fashion finds.

0:03Tamara Jabi:I'm really obsessed with Mathieu Blaise's collection at Chanel. It's trending everywhere, the bags, the shoes. Our favorite regional brands. So for any brides out there, I highly recommend that you design your dress with a regional brand.

0:19Lulu Dahmash:Yeah, I wore Sandra Mansour for my Ketbik tab. She's an amazing designer, so so good. The charities we're supporting, I've seen the work that they've been doing on the ground in Lebanon, providing relief to families. That's a great organization that I support as well, definitely. And our hot takes. My hot take is actually going to be quite controversial, especially with you guys, because I actually don't like coconut milk. I'm like, we've been best friends for like all these years. How do I not know this?

0:54Lulu Dahmash:Hello and welcome to the Sheerlux Middle East podcast. I'm your host, Tamara Javi. Before we begin, wherever you are listening from and watching from, we are sending you strength and we hope this episode offers a small break from everything that's going on. Today, I am so pleased to introduce you to two very special people in my life, Lulu Dahmash, who is a stylist and creative consultant, and Hiba Walid, who is the brand and community manager at Level Shoes. The reason why I say it's very special is because you guys are sisters-in-law. Yes, and best friends. And best friends. And so I feel like there's so much to talk about.

1:26Lulu Dahmash:and I feel you guys will share a lot with each other, which is great. Your energy is unmatched, and Lulu and I have been best friends since we were in kindergarten, so I love that.

1:34Tamara Jabi:It's a automatic best friend. Yeah, exactly. Automatic best friend. We become best friends. Super excited to be here.

1:40Lulu Dahmash:Yeah, it's going to be a fun group chat, which I love. You guys look so amazing. Please talk me through what you're wearing today. So I'm wearing a top from Lioness. My pants are Jaded London, and my shoes are Maison Margiela. Which I think, that's my first time seeing you in tabbies. Yeah. They're really cool. I've had my eye on a pair of tabbies for a while and I finally feel like I found the pair that just works for me. Yeah, you know, we had this discussion on a previous pod, like, are you a tabby person? Are you not? I need to try them properly again. I feel like it's just very much like a trial.

2:13Lulu Dahmash:It's a controversial topic. Like, surprisingly, it is a controversial topic. There are a bunch of styles and I feel like when you get to try them on, you'll see what works for you. So, like, when I tried on the boots, I'm usually a boots girl. As you know, I think every single podcast, I come here and talk about boots. But the tabby boots didn't suit me. I just felt weird. But these heels. But I feel like these heels.

2:35Tamara Jabi:I love them. They're really, really nice. You just work with a lot of things as well. I've been trying to be a tabby girl, so I think I'm influenced.

2:41Lulu Dahmash:I mean, Hiba, you work at Level Shoes, so you know all about shoes.

2:46Tamara Jabi:It's my life. I love shoes.

2:47Lulu Dahmash:Tell us what you're wearing, and especially your shoes, because I also think you're very much a thong sandal girl.

2:51Tamara Jabi:Yes, even though I'm going to get to that, I'm switching right now. I still love my thongs, but pumps are everywhere this season, and I'm switching to pumps.

3:01Lulu Dahmash:I'm going to go through what I'm wearing right now.

3:03Tamara Jabi:This is a brand that I've been eyeing for the longest time. It's called Jill Rodriguez. They're based in LA. They have elevated basics, and if you know me, I love elevated basics. I love to be comfortable. So these are my go-to pants for now. I love the electric blue. It's the color of the season for me, at least. and then the tank top is also from Jill but then I layered it with white basic from Zara and the shoes are obviously level shoes from a brand called again I'm gonna butcher the name but it's called the McQuas I think oh I love them I think they're saying like Spanish vibes today

3:38Lulu Dahmash:very cool like it's a it's a cool take on like just a basic outfit which I love yeah are they healed let me see they're like a little wedding heel she's influenced me as well I want to get We're gonna go switch. You guys often show up matching and you were surprised today that you weren't matching.

3:55Tamara Jabi:No, we always have like a Mary-Kate and Ashley moment. So it's not really matching, but we have the same vibe. Yeah, we always have a moment where we match. And today when Hibba saw me, she was like, what? I was sad. How are we not matching? Yeah, I was upset. I was also sad. But then like we find something to like connect and make it work. And I feel like it's the same with you. We always somehow like have a color or something to match with. And today we're so matching. What are you wearing, Tam?

4:21Lulu Dahmash:So my cashmere top is Uniqlo, which I love. Basics. Yeah. Easy to wear. My belt is dehanche. These jorts are Jessica Kay, the Lebanese designer.

4:31Tamara Jabi:I love them.

4:32Lulu Dahmash:And then these shoes are Andrea Wazin. Representing Lebanese brown.

4:35Tamara Jabi:I am. Also, all of these shoes are in love with shoes. Okay. Shave us up. Shave us up. I had to. I had to.

4:48Lulu Dahmash:so on to our first topic anything that you are loving recently anything new and noteworthy you want to share lulu so i've been watching love story oh me too isn't it really good yeah it's really good as you know it's about jfk jr and caroline vassette and um everyone's just talking about her style and how effortless they both are yeah um but yeah it's a really interesting show you should definitely watch it my husband's not letting me is he not oh my god

5:18Tamara Jabi:no i'm like my brother's not letting me yeah um he thinks it's a chick flick and i'm like so it's

5:26Lulu Dahmash:not because actually rami is now watching it with me and he's so into it yeah it's the same with me my like my partner was like hating on it and then when i sat with him and i started watching it

5:36Tamara Jabi:he ended up getting more and now he's like okay don't watch the rest of the episodes without me so I have to wait for him. That's the thing about being

5:45Lulu Dahmash:with someone is that you have to wait for them. I mean, you guys are married so for me it's like, okay, I need to wait on you.

5:52Tamara Jabi:Give him a deadline. Listen, if it's more than a day, wrap it up.

5:56Lulu Dahmash:The thing that will sway your partner to watch it, I would say, is that it's a period piece. So it's about history. So you lean into that and see if they'll bite. It's not a chick flick. But yeah, Carolyn Bessette's style is so effortless. Very effortless. very you know minimalistic yeah giving very like the row max mara yeah and calvin klein

6:18Tamara Jabi:and it's timeless it's still very relevant to the time very interesting story i would love to discuss the show but i don't want to like put any spoilers even though it's based on a true story i'm sure a lot of people know about what what really happened um but maybe we can discuss it on the next podcast when you've watched it i'm gonna show on this episode it's like hello everyone's

6:40Lulu Dahmash:watching stay tuned let's go i know i'm watching reruns of desperate housewives oh my god i've been wanting to start it oh my god it's so good yeah i forget how good it is it's actually such a good

6:51Tamara Jabi:show okay we're getting that's great i'm gonna start i actually want something to watch because i'm uh caught up with that so maybe i'll get on so you're fully caught up with love story i'm like on episode two oh no way oh my god no i've been on it but actually it's better to wait because then you can just binge watch the whole thing yeah actually what was your take do you like to wait for episodes or do you like to binge watch i like to binge watch personally i hate waiting because then i'm like what's gonna happen next what's gonna happen i used to be that person like i

7:18Lulu Dahmash:don't know i'm impatient i want to know but i actually really love the discourse between episodes so that's why a lot of these um shows take a week to to launch their next episode it's because they want discourse on social media they want people talking about it discussing about so actually because i'm an avid tiktok user as i know you are too you guys are both hit tiktok There's too much. A little bit too much. But I love like hearing people's theories and you know, I hate spoilers. So when everything is out. I know that. You know that. I absolutely hate.

7:49Tamara Jabi:You'll get to see it ahead of time. You're right.

7:50Lulu Dahmash:I don't want people to tell me what color shirt they're wearing. That's the level of spoilers that I don't like. True, true. So I kind of like that week on week episode. But yeah, I do feel a bit impatient sometimes. That's why I was. It becomes like a fandom. That's why I was scared to talk about anything. I know. I know. I know you hate spoilers. I literally held myself back. I'm like, don't talk about spoilers in front of Tamara. Don't you dare. Oh, my God.

8:13Tamara Jabi:It was like that there was a show. I mean, this, again, you said it's based on a true story, but there was a show, and I would wait for episode to episode. It was called Severance. Oh, what do you mean? It's the best show ever.

8:23Lulu Dahmash:I love Severance. Oh, my God.

8:24Tamara Jabi:I would wait till the last second, go on TikTok, see the conspiracy theories. This is what this means. And especially that show.

8:32Lulu Dahmash:Yeah. That show in specific is so complex, and I find there's so many theories. Yes.

8:36Tamara Jabi:and so many different interpretations different interpretations different hidden messages

8:40Lulu Dahmash:loved severance i actually really want another severance type of show like pluribus wasn't it for me i spoke about this on the last pod and it was it's not it's not for me me neither i stopped

Read the full transcript

8:49Tamara Jabi:it but i just realized what i don't know suddenly i was just sitting at home i'm like pluribus is about chat gpt and then i searched it and it is is it yes it's about ai and then the future of ai if you think about it, pluribus, they're all happy and they nod with everything. ChatGBT agrees with everything you say. It's like anything you say, it's like, yeah, no, you know what? You're right.

9:12Lulu Dahmash:Well, are we now, are you guys on the news about how we're boycotting ChatGBT? Yes. Yeah. Let's move to Claude. We're moving to Claude. We're moving to Claude. So I've moved to Claude now. Okay. And how's Claude? Claude, I'm curious. How is he? Claude needs to get to know me a lot. So I have to really retrain Claude. Yes. I have all my thoughts on ChatGPT. That's the thing. That's the thing. You don't have to like retrain the sort of system. Can we export everything?

9:39Tamara Jabi:I don't know. Could you? I don't know. Honestly, that would be a game changer.

9:44Lulu Dahmash:If you could just export it. That would be a game changer. Because the amount of data that I've fed like ChatGPT. Yeah. Literally knows me more than maybe you guys do. I have to say. My innermost thoughts is definitely on this robot. That's purpose, guys. it knows everything i also use it as like my own personal therapist absolutely i'm sure i'm having

10:06Tamara Jabi:a bad day i'm like it's not great advice it just tells you everything that's why the prop needs to

10:11Lulu Dahmash:be be brutally honest yeah be objective etc yeah hey about anything you want to share that you love

10:16Tamara Jabi:recently there is i mean especially with everything going on i want to highlight a lebanese brand i've obviously just moved i mean not moved it's been six months but we're still in that like house

10:27Lulu Dahmash:furnishing period you don't have to worry about that because i've been i just moved two years ago

10:32Tamara Jabi:and it still it never ends it never ends it never ends and no one warns you like your house never finishes yeah you know so it's a lebanese brand i think it's called chop studio soy um and they do a lot of um serveware oh so i really like hosting or i want to start hosting a lot and they have these dipping bowls that are so pretty I love they're always sold out so I'm waiting for them to come back and stop but it's like made out of ceramics but they have so many different sections and the way that it's just this place is

11:05Lulu Dahmash:stunning gorgeous lots of creative brands from from Lebanon even for homeware because my mom recently purchased something for me from my house which is a serving bowls from City Spoon which I love and it's so beautiful

11:19Tamara Jabi:Are they colourful serving bowls? No, but it's just the design of it. You can have a dip section. Nice. So it's a bowl. So it's just like very, very aesthetic. It's nice for like display. Yeah. And useful.

11:33Lulu Dahmash:Nice.

11:33Tamara Jabi:I love that. Yeah. And also something that's new. And I think Lulu, you're going to love this because she's such a Birkenstock girl. There is an Etro and Birkenstock collaboration that's dropping, I think, in September. Exciting. Yes. I'm talking about shoes again. Of course. It's just my life is shoes. So is it going to be like really cool prints, you think? It's, how do you call it? It's not, it's stitching on the actual shoes. Very like Etro-esque stitching on the Birkenstocks. And they're just sending, it has really cool hardware as well.

12:09Lulu Dahmash:Amazing.

12:10Tamara Jabi:Very nice balance between the two brands. And I'm so excited.

12:14Lulu Dahmash:Is that September?

12:16Tamara Jabi:that's I think in September because I sent it to our amazing level shoes buyers of course and I'm like hello need ASAP and then she hinted that it might be in September so I don't know let's see but keep your eyes out for it okay moving on to fashion finds and beauty picks Hibab since you

12:37Lulu Dahmash:are a level shoes girly I feel like you're going to talk about shoes am I wrong no but I have a

12:41Tamara Jabi:long list so how much time do you have let's go let's hear it let's hear it um so i know this is something that everyone's been talking about but um i'm really obsessed with matthew blesse's collection at chanel oh it's trending everywhere where i was gonna bring that up i was literally gonna bring that up on the podcast i know it's everywhere um so buy me basic but really really it's on top of my list the bags the shoes um again pumps they have a lot of really really nice pumps so yeah shoes but then um there's a regional brand that i also love called the line we have it exclusively at level shoes there's a thong sandal oh why am i not surprised why am i not surprised the thong sandals it has to be there always has to be there we need a good thong we're balancing out the pumps and thongs i also really am into big aviator sunglasses right now and there's so many that I'm loving from a brand called Lexola, Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent.

13:42Tamara Jabi:The bigger the sunglasses, the better. Beauty finds, I'm actually wearing Refai Refy. Refai. They sent me a package. I'm not really someone that changes what I'm used to. Like, I really don't try new things. So thankfully, they sent something. I've tried it and it's been my go-to.

14:03Lulu Dahmash:What do you love

14:03Tamara Jabi:from the brand uh eyebrow gel the primer the cream yeah um i'm also wearing their blush and it comes in like this um orange tint that actually suits my skin tone more than the pink yeah it depends

14:17Lulu Dahmash:on your undertone right i feel like you're discovering it as you go same with me i'm like which blush shade does i put all types of blush my face i'm like blush blinded blush blind i love

14:26Tamara Jabi:blush as well the more the merrier love it yeah i'm really into big things right now there's also a pair of earrings from Yves Saint Laurent, the big chandelier ones. Yeah, yeah I'm just into big stuff. Yeah, big bags, big shoes, big earrings. Nice, nice, I love that. What about you Lulu? Funny enough, we're in sync. I was also going to bring up the latest Chanel runaway. Absolutely love Matteo Blézy's direction and you know like it's a completely different twist to what Chanel usually does but I also like the fact that it still has its unique identity and the tweeting the low waist skirts and low waist silhouettes I think it's super cool and very on trend right now and very fresh I feel very fresh I also I mean in terms of beauty products I'm currently loving K18 I think I've brought it up before but I love the combination of K18 leave-in conditioner and then a game changer for me was Hello Clean shower filter.

15:28Oh yeah. I don't know if you guys have a shower filter but really it is a game changer. I noticed the water pressure of my shower head being stronger and it's crazy to see like what comes out of your shower head.

15:41Lulu Dahmash:I know when you replace the filter, right? When you replace the filter, like the amount of stuff that comes out, I'm like this is really, I mean, unhygienic.

15:49Tamara Jabi:Oh my God, I need to know. but it also changed the texture of my hair and I just feel like it's a lot more bouncy and and fresh so combination of those two products is something that I highly recommend I'm with you I

16:01Lulu Dahmash:I've tried k18 products they're amazing their dry shampoo is something I love um because it's like a spray but it's not wet which is crazy yeah um and the hello clean shower filter I'm with you on that one as well I if you don't have a shower filter you I mean you just moved to your house so you

16:17Tamara Jabi:need a shower filter in every bathroom like it is so needed and it's crazy because I've actually been funny you mentioned that I've been struggling with dry ends and I'm trying to experiment with different products so this is definitely on my list and I'm gonna get a shower filter honestly it's a game changer I have to say really yeah okay really yeah for sure something I've been

16:37Lulu Dahmash:loving is you guys are familiar with Sarah's bag from Lebanon yeah she came out with this bag which has pearl and it's like quite fringy which i love i'm really into fringe these days i'm seeing fringe everywhere yeah um and i was at the burberry show in london and they also had a lot of fringe tassels and i just love the fringe trends um and so she has this bag which is beautiful and it has pearl details but a fringe pearl which is like a clutch gorgeous for evening i think it's amazing and her brand actually um employs more than 40 percent of people that are actually displaced in in Lebanon right now due to the conflict.

17:12Lulu Dahmash:And I think that it's a really good time to support brands that are really doing as much as they can for their communities. So yeah, I love that bag. It's a gorgeous bag.

17:22Tamara Jabi:And good that has a purpose. You know where the money is going as well. Exactly. Definitely love that.

17:32Lulu Dahmash:Okay, guys, celebrity news. Anything you've been seeing on social recently that you want to share? So I want to bring up Jacob Elordi because he has been the talk of everything right now. He's really influencing fashion. His style is super cool. Very minimalistic, but also a lot of statement bags and pieces, which usually find a man wearing. Not a lot of guys can pull off, but with him, he can literally pull anything off. I think so too. And I think his height really helps. I feel like when you're tall and slender, I feel like a lot of looks. You look tall. Yeah, exactly. You know, yes. It looks really good because you feel like the clothes are just really...

18:09Lulu Dahmash:He doesn't have a dress for his size, which I love. 100%. Which is so important to learn what works for you. 100%. And that's about trends come and go. But also, when a trend comes up, it's about how you implement it on your own style. Yeah. Hiba, what about you?

18:27Tamara Jabi:Any celebrity news you want to talk about? I'm really into the... I don't make comments. I don't like gossip, but I like watching it. yeah so i'm really i'm consuming it but you'll never see me like making comments or like teasing people i actually hate bullying against it don't bully on social media 100 agree um and that's gonna be my hot take actually we're coming back to that sorry um but i'm really i'm laughing at all of these um comments that timothy chalamet has been getting about the comment he made about

18:56Lulu Dahmash:ballet and the opera and how it's a dying art and how we shouldn't get into something that's like a dying art like ballerina exactly i know so the the feedback has been like really intense which i i mean i get i understand that because like yeah you're you're dissing the groundwork of what the art is about and a community of you know the arts is all about community and it's all about you know expressing each other in different art forms yeah did you see doja cat's response yes the video that she made on tiktok yeah a lot of people are like you know doja cat's very controversial and she's done some controversial things in the past yeah so a lot of people are like i can't believe i'm actually agreeing with doja cats um in that sense but she has a point

19:36Tamara Jabi:no it's true it's true also of course like if you're not into it doesn't mean that

19:41Lulu Dahmash:other people exactly no but that's true it just because you think of a certain way it doesn't

19:47Tamara Jabi:give you the right to diss or like you know insult another art form i know it's tricky a lot of

19:54Lulu Dahmash:people oh my god i saw this comment a lot of people were like um now i see why he's with

19:58Tamara Jabi:kylie jenner oh my god no even though like i feel like i like them both together like i don't know i i like it i just feel like he didn't realize um what he was saying he was saying and cancel culture in america is so intense isn't it everything you say could just be taken out of

20:17Lulu Dahmash:content and it's trickling down i feel the council culture is trickling down to the rest of the world like you say one bad thing and like or not even one bad thing you say one thing yeah and then And it can be construed in so many different ways.

20:27Tamara Jabi:Which, if you need to meet my grandma, because the things that she says, I'm like, Tita, you can't say that out loud right now. It's Arab parents. Our family members. But yeah, also speaking about like Timothy and Kylie, did you guys hear that she wants to get into acting?

20:45Lulu Dahmash:Does she? Oh, I didn't know that. I read something about her like wanting to like become an actress. I wouldn't put it back. But I don't know. I mean, if that person has, I mean, that much influence around the world, I feel like she would get roles. But again, like sometimes it can be difficult.

21:06Tamara Jabi:Sorry, Kim is not a good actress.

21:08Lulu Dahmash:Did you watch that show? I didn't watch it.

21:10Tamara Jabi:I went on the first 10 minutes. All's fair, right? Yeah, all's fair. It was really bad.

21:15Lulu Dahmash:I heard it was not great.

21:16Tamara Jabi:Yeah, it was bad because all of the women that were in the show were actually really amazing actresses. but then for some reason the bad acting trickled down on everyone and then I was like no I cannot I've actually been wanting to watch it I'm gonna give it a shot yeah I give it a shot because sometimes sometimes I do like these like I must say I do like bad shows I have to say sometimes I like bad shows I know that about you and that's what Kitty always says when Lulu recommends

21:41Lulu Dahmash:something to me when Lulu recommends something to me I take it with I take it with a grain of salt love cheesy ones because I'm like is it Lulu recommended TBC if I'm gonna like it she's quite okay i admit it i admit it but then i also do have good taste you know that you have good taste in other things yeah no i spoke about love story yeah the most trending show

22:09Lulu Dahmash:so on to hot topic uh anything you guys have going on a dilemma or a hot take what do you have to share lulu we'll start with you yeah do we really need a 12-step skincare routine i feel Like, you know, social media, trends with brands have just been promoting like so many steps. But in reality, I'm super basic with what I use. And I feel like it just doesn't really work for me. I don't know if you guys agree. It's very overwhelming, the input that we get.

22:38Tamara Jabi:Users do not. I think so too.

22:40Lulu Dahmash:Very true. We live in a very consumerist world. Very, very consumerist heavy. So yes, I agree with that in that sense. I do also love taking my time with skincare and I love the process. So it makes me feel like I'm doing something good for my skin. I'm doing this layer and that layer. But you're right. It gets to a point where you don't need. There's a difference between needing and enjoying it. And also if you have, you know, certain skin types, not everything works for you. 100%. But I agree with like enjoying it, like in moments where I just want to relax. If I'm taking a bath, I would put on a face mask.

23:13but I don't feel like you need all of these steps yeah I'm super basic I put on a I wash my face with a cleanser I put on a moisturizer eye cream and a serum and that's it and keep it simple yeah

23:28Lulu Dahmash:and then it works for you right it's a trial and error especially I think as I grow older I'm just like let's pair back as much as we can because I need products that work and I do regular facials so I can get to that level yeah I do regular facials as well yeah like that's more beneficial What are your favorite facial spots? My favorite facial spots? Well, I recently went to Studio Judy Lemke.

23:51Tamara Jabi:Oh, what a gorgeous area. Such a stunning space. But also what I tried was their buccal facial and their lymphatic. And that was such a crazy experience. Wow. Like she massages like your... The inside of your jaw. The inside of your jaw. It's painful, but it's also very relieving and calming.

24:12Lulu Dahmash:a way yeah it's like if you have tension it's like tmj it really helps i highly recommend it if i'm sure you've tried it as well i actually haven't tried that one but i know of the facial yeah yeah it was really good so yeah definitely a really beautiful spot but also um a space i'd recommend for for treatments i tried it was really good what about you hebba um i don't know if my

24:32Tamara Jabi:heart take is very hot i feel like a lot of people relate but my heart take is when did we start being so mean and sharing every intrusive thought we have on social media. What are you so dumb?

24:46Lulu Dahmash:I know. You're right. Yeah.

24:49Tamara Jabi:Why every thought we have, we share? When did that become so normal? Because I feel like if you don't have something nice to say, don't say it at all.

24:58Lulu Dahmash:You heard it here first, guys. Please. This is advice from Hibba Walid. I 100 % agree. I'm with you 100 % on that. Yes. Haters don't hate.

25:07Tamara Jabi:Yeah, don't hate. It's really funny because I remember I try to post sometimes and stuff but just obviously like a lot of people it's scary because there are some mean people in the world and a lot of my friends I posted a video and then someone commented something negative and all of my friends are very positive so they went and hey only positive comments only be positive don't be mean did they reply back they replied back to that comment and then obviously I remember that yeah it was you it was a lot of yeah I remember that Be true to yourself. I think like be so true to yourself.

25:41Lulu Dahmash:And then if you are true to yourself and you're confident in what you're saying, and that's the best thing you can do.

25:46Tamara Jabi:And also like for the people that do give comments and like to share their opinion, just be mindful. You don't know what people go through. You don't know people's lives. People on Instagram show you not even 1 % of their day-to-day lives. So let's just be mindful and maybe don't share your opinion as often. I'm with you. Thank you. I agree. I don't think there's a point in that. Like, why would you just want to bring someone down? For what reason? Just keep your comments to yourself. Totally agree.

26:17Lulu Dahmash:My hot take is actually going to be quite controversial, especially with you guys, because I actually don't like coconut milk. You were just saying right now. I don't like coconut milk. I don't like coconut milk in my matcha. I find that it's so overpowering. I can taste the coconut. I'm not into it. I love how that's your hot take. That's my hot take. It's very relevant also. It's like the first thing I thought of because it's true. Like I'd most like coconut milk matchas and it's so common. It's like, try our cocoa matcha. And I'm like, no, I'll not try our cocoa matcha. So what do you have your matcha with?

26:50Lulu Dahmash:I have it with regular milk. Another hot take. I drink regular milk. I never knew that. I'm discovering a lot about you right now. Like I'm like, we've been best friends for like all these years. How do I not know this? I tried almond milk and like I have had almond milk in the past and I don't mind having almond milk but I find that like coconut milk is just not a vibe and also all these studies that are coming out about the different milks especially oat milk yeah I'm like let me just stick to whole milk if it doesn't bother my tummy I'm just gonna have it that's the thing it's your one of the lucky ones yeah exactly so if I'm not lactose and top hold on tight exactly and what do you have your coffee with then so I'm not a coffee drink oh yes you aren't a coffee I'm not a coffee drinker if i do have coffee it's turkish coffee okay which doesn't have milk if i am having another type of coffee i'll have like a cappuccino with regular milk yeah shocker yeah but yeah this is my uh that's my that's my hot take so obviously given the current circumstances in the region i just want to kind of highlight the charities you're supporting during this time lulu we can start with you yeah i think it's very important to know who you're donating to and not to donate to any um anyone just be sure of like the page that you're donating to and that it's a reputable um charity or organization um but there's betel baraka uh there's unicef uh lebanon um so yeah yeah betel baraka um have been so amazing i've seen the work that they've been doing on the ground in lebanon providing relief to families helping them get back on their feet after time and time again so it's a really that's a great organization that i support as well definitely what about you Hiba?

28:28Tamara Jabi:There's one that I recently donated to through a friend called Girls in Lebanon so just discovered it you actually follow them I do follow them yeah because it's just

28:37Lulu Dahmash:girls just like us on the ground in Lebanon yeah providing relief yeah 100 % you can donate to them

28:43Tamara Jabi:they post everything on their Instagram where the money is going the mattresses that they're buying blankets food so it's nice to see it's actually happening you get to see the impact impact and the amount that they were giving back. Yeah. So I really, really like them. There's also a lot more also in Palestine. So it's just in Lebanon. But I'm yet to discover direct contact for Palestine.

29:11Lulu Dahmash:Yeah, I think it's, well, actually, I just recently discovered the Zainab Project.

29:15Tamara Jabi:Nice.

29:15Lulu Dahmash:Which is helping people in Gaza. Like it's a grassroots operation. Like people from Gaza using Gaza's resources to help the people.

29:23Tamara Jabi:Amazing.

29:24Lulu Dahmash:Yeah, I think that right now more than ever we need to have our communities come together. We are obviously so far removed from it here, even though we're going through a lot in the region as well right now. It's very troubling times, but I find that the easiest way to support is donation and is talking to people on the ground, people that are actually helping people on the ground more than ever. Exactly. Because you need that immediate relief. You need that.

29:50Tamara Jabi:You're doing something.

29:51Lulu Dahmash:Facing displacement is like, I mean, some people don't get it, you know. They think, why don't you just leave and, you know, go somewhere else. You can't really tell someone to leave their home. It's a really interesting way that people think that it's just so easy when it's really not.

30:07Tamara Jabi:Of course.

30:08Lulu Dahmash:And I'm sure, I mean, you're part Palestinian, you're Palestinian. I have, you know, Palestinian blood, but I'm Syrian-Lebanese. And so it's very much in our nature to understand the pain, but also be so far removed from it that we feel kind of survivor's guilt. I don't know if you guys are feeling it. I feel that a lot. So it's great that we have these organizations that kind of help and kind of provide relief. And then locally here, have you guys been hearing about how pets are being abandoned in the region? It is honestly heartbreaking. So there's an Instagram account called No Pets Left Behind UAE.

30:42Lulu Dahmash:and they're really helping pets get rehomed, fostered. They're always looking for volunteers. So these are different ways that you can also help locally as well.

30:53Tamara Jabi:Amazing. There's also, I just saw a government post. Obviously, the government here in Dubai is so amazing. They're always understanding what everyone needs. And they've just started this initiative where it's food cans that are placed all over the region for cats. And it has cat food. and it's just to feed stray cats that's really lovely i love the t-shirt because actually there's

31:17Lulu Dahmash:a stray cat that's next to my parents house i'm trying to like take to the vet and it's been the hardest thing to get the cat into the crate so i love that yeah i remember you were trying to do i was trying to do that last night i was like oh my god i was sending videos to do it i'm like yeah trying to put the cat and try to put the treats in the crate oh yeah that's so sweet of you like really animals they don't i mean they don't know what's going on it breaks my heart everything everything it's very unsettling time and i think now more than ever like you have to rely on your community you have to lean into that i feel like a lot of people given the uncertainty of the situation of what's going on in the region some people can turn inward and i find that you know getting resources to help talk it out friends family community really helps bidaya is a platform that are offering one-on-one consultations that are complimentary for anyone that feels that they need to talk it out so I love I mean I don't like that we're in a situation where we have to have these resources but I love how in our region in our communities people really show up for for other people so it's always it's always good to have

32:26Lulu Dahmash:obviously with what's happening in the region we are supporting regional brands more than ever I mean today I'm wearing Lebanese brands and I want to know from you if you have any favorite regional brands that you're supporting yeah like what you said i think it's so important to be supporting regional brands especially you know generally but also times like this um vanina is a brand that i absolutely love i love um their work i think their pieces are super unique they're based in lebanon um and sandra mansour she's a bridal a designer but also an evening wear designer so for any brides out there i'd highly recommend that you design your dress with a regional brand and think of the brands around the region and support them.

33:07Lulu Dahmash:Yeah, I wore Sandra Mansour for my Katzbek tab. And I just think, thank you, my angel. I loved it. It was such a, she's an amazing designer. So, so good.

33:16Tamara Jabi:Yeah, there was actually a brand that you highlighted in one of your videos. You were asking a girl in London. Oh, yeah. What her, like, something that she, a new brand that she's loving. It's called House of Janolo. So nice, isn't it? It's stunning. It's a Lebanese brand. beautiful high-end jewelry yeah and really cool sculptural pieces i feel like 100 stunning and a bit too expensive for me right now on the wish list yes on the wish list we're manifesting and obviously a regional brand so big support over there love that i hate to cut this short but we

33:50Lulu Dahmash:do have to end the podcast sometime but you guys have to come back we're definitely coming back you have to come back can we please do this again we should make this a series we should come back

33:58Tamara Jabi:I do do the next one's the Wuthering Heights 9 yeah welcome to your house yeah thank you guys

This week on the SheerLuxe Middle East Podcast, Tamara Jabi is joined by two very special guests: stylist and creative consultant Lulu Dahmash and Level Shoes’ brand and community manager, Hiba Waleed. From standout fashion finds to the regional brands they’re loving right now, the conversation covers everything from Chanel’s trending pieces and statement sunglasses to bridal designers, beauty heroes and the accessories topping their wish lists.

The trio also share their current pop-culture obsessions, including celebrity style hot takes and the TV shows everyone should be watching, before getting into a few more personal opinions, including whether we really need a 12-step skincare routine and one unexpectedly controversial take on coconut milk. They also take a moment to spotlight the charities and grassroots organisations they’re supporting across the region, as well as the importance of showing up for local communities and regional brands during difficult times.
