In short
The SLMan podcast episode mixes lifestyle chat with “modern masculinity” themes, focusing on “mogging” (being outshone in looks/body), looks-maxing/fitness extremes, and online manosphere-style vitriol. It also covers reactions to the first UK “Saturday Night Live” live show, plus Arsenal/Tottenham results and broader football/business talk.
Guests
Host Harvey James (Associate Editor at SL Man). Co-hosts Frankie and Tunde (discuss personal travel, fashion, fitness, tattoos, and relationships).
Key claims
Online hate spreads faster than positivity due to algorithms; fame can make people treat celebrities as less human. “Mogging” is a comparison dynamic in photos/frames. Looks-maxing can become toxic when it escalates to extreme body modification.
Notable examples
Louis Theroux’s “Into the Manosphere”; Barry Keoghan receiving appearance-based harassment; SNL UK hosted by Tina Fey; Arsenal battered; Tottenham losing 3-0; High Rocks fitness challenge; “approach shoes” and pleated jeans; James Blake album; “Farnham FC” branding/marketing approach.

1:33Welcome back to the SL Man pod. I'm your host Harvey James, Associate Editor at SL Man and today I'm joined by Frankie and Tunde. How are you guys? I'm great. I've been living the dream really recently. Yeah, life's been good. Cheltenham Festival, a weekend in Cannes, driving Ferraris at Goodwood. I've had a nice weekend in the sun. Life's very good. This is the sun coming through the spring attitude yeah it is definitely how are you today i'm good i also had a good week i definitely i didn't i didn't leave the country however i ate well that's someone who's left the country the way that you just said that i think that normally would go away in case anyone's watching i definitely did the investigators i did not leave the country no i didn't leave the country um i ate well went to the gym a lot i went a lot of runs um got some new clothes um flats clean did a deep clean so like i had a really good week and i filmed a lot of content as well so very happy right let's get into the things that we are loving at the moment i'll start with mine actually um so i went to edinburgh recently to do a little shoot and while i was there i popped into the gleneagles townhouse nice obviously a part of the brand of gleneagles hotel and golf course and golf course yeah yeah it's just an incredibly historic beautiful building um but this was the townhouse in edinburgh um and it's just so ornate and beautiful it's just like an amazing kind of main hall with like marble really high ceilings my girlfriend went to the toilet and i must have spent the whole time just looking at the decorations and that it was everything had such detail to it it was absolutely incredible i feel like if you're in scotland that's the sort of vibe you want yeah like curated pieces yeah it was just and like quite a spacious place to have a baby and then spend a couple hours really relaxing and knowing that there was no stress, there wasn't too many people it was just like really good quality service and going in to change the baby in the toilet, it was just like the most beautiful changing area like leather, kind of Paul, your son's just having a privileged upbringing from the get go isn't he can't get used to that, so did you stay there?
3:39did you actually stay there as well? no we didn't, we stayed at the Hoxton, it's going to be a young man of taste yeah and i'm slightly worried about that i need to stop that and we share the same birthday sagittarius the exact same birthday yeah 40th of december right does that make him a man of finer things 100 i never knew that 100 we saw that on the pod which you were here how have you been here yeah you were here really i've only ever done the pocket you told me yeah but i like to keep it balanced so at the other end of the scale birdhouse brewery in hern hill um they do four pound pints on a wednesday and they're really good pints yeah like it's all brewed in in there and it's like it's in hangers like under a railway station but it's been kitted out in a really kind of modern quite simple chic way so although it is you know under a railway and it's just a brewery yeah it feels like something more and there's like quite a good crowd there there's good vibes four pound pints yeah it's it's unheard of i don't really it's very good that's non-existent there's only one there's one pound 72 pint which is my local you've been one pounds 72 as in like to the pence yeah really pretty sure i have a thing about the price of pints i have never understood why people put so much emphasis on trying to save 50p on a pint why the price of the pint dictates your night so much in reality if you added up the difference in price between a cheap place and an expensive place across five pints it might be five quid or ten quid but the standard the quality of venue gets so much better so i always think go for the expensive pints because like you're you're saving yourself one pound a pint to be in an average pub or you could go to a really cool cocktail bar or a nice hotel or cool spot and it'll cost you five or more right you need to come with me to the spoons because it is unreal i've drank plenty of cheap pints but then it all adds up though doesn't it like if you keep going to the expensive place all the time if you did the maths on how much money you're saving i bet you splurge that money elsewhere that don't up the experience as much as actually going to a really nice place cocktail is different story like if you're going out somewhere really fancy and you go for cocktails you're going to spend a lot of money but if you're pinting just go to the best place because a pint doesn't can only be so much yeah true yeah yeah okay so that's your hack drink drink pints drink cheap drinks in expensive places.
6:01I'll do that next time. I'll give you the sheer thrill of going out with a£10 note though and having a great time. So we'll sort that out. Final thing from me, James Blake's new album. Are you guys into him? I don't even know who James Blake is. I feel like I will be. Yeah, he's unreal. He's probably, I would say he's like probably one of the most talented musicians coming out of the UK. X Factor? No, no, no. Oh, right. No, no. He's just a producer, a pianist, a singer. his voice is insane he's worked with um kendrick lamar oh he's worked with dave quite a lot no way really he's worked with yeah scissor he did the whole kendrick album or not the whole but he helped him produce the kendrick album that was the black panther one but he's not a rapper right he's a producer yeah yeah producer and singer but he's just he's so talented and his beats are how cool insane does he normally release music that he sings or is he just always producing normally no he's he produces his own albums and gets people to feature on his songs as well oh fine so this whole album is him singing or is this the same yeah yeah it's just him i think the only one i can name off the top of my head is dave like as a feature on this one no way but what it's described as like sad boy music sometimes and he's he's hit back against that and and basically just said it's okay for like guys to to feel things yeah like it's okay so i I wouldn't play this at a party necessarily, this music.
7:23Okay. Because it is a bit more, I guess, introvert and melancholy. But it's just incredible. You want to get in your feels. Yeah. Is that what sad boy means? If you're like upset and emotional. Yeah. It's just a little bit more brooding. I'd probably like it then, I think. I like sad boy music. Same, I think. Yeah. Nice. Three sad boys. I like my people. The three lost sad boys. And you, what was your pick? Oh, I just got a Romero suitcase. I know it's so random, but I love it to absolute bits. That's been on my wish list for a long time. Honestly, I literally walked out of Selfridges with that bag on my shoulder.
8:04Do you know what it is? Wait, on your shoulder? It's the whole shopping experience. Wait, isn't it a suitcase? No, no, no. But it comes in a dust bag and the dust bag gets put into this big white bag, which you put over your shoulder. But the whole experience of purchasing it is just just incredible as owning it. that's why honestly I walked out of there and feel like it's just a suitcase and do you know what I'm looking for I do you liked coming out of the shop I honestly felt like on top of the world I know it's just a suitcase but we went on for so long it was quite nice to actually like take it off like you said did you customise it just the tag with my initials nice I didn't put the sticks on there I'm gonna let the customising happen itself when it gets bashed around and so on like when it adds a bit of character to it.
8:50Yeah, yeah. And it comes with a lifetime warranty, by the way. That's cool. Mate, so if anything breaks, they'll fix it. Yeah, true. They're incredible. As you say, you don't have to buy another one for the rest of your life. No, I'm excited. I've got a stag do next weekend, so that'll be its first trip. Stag do? That's a bougie suitcase for a stag do. It's a bougie stag do. Okay, cool. Yeah, so like, it makes sense. Nice.
9:16Well, talking of your kind of fashion picks, or pics you've got recently. Let's move on to Fashion Finds. Nice. And talk about what we've had on our eye on recently. I've been thinking about venturing into getting an approach shoe. Does that mean anything to you? An approach shoe? Is this the, like, mountaineering? Yeah. Yeah, kind of. It's like pre-climbing shoe. What? So it's like you're getting from not the mountain, this is such a bad way of describing it, to the bit where you'll be climbing. And there's a shoe just for that. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But they're becoming then also fashionable, right?
9:54Yeah, yeah. I was reading about this briefly the other day. This is it. Remind me. It is called an approach shoe. So you're approaching the climb. So you're approaching the climb. So it's like... And then you change your shoe to climb. Yeah. Because climbing shoes, you can't walk in, really. So what do you wear before the approaching shoe? The approach approach shoe. Right. Just a normal shoe. Flip flops. Flip flops, yeah. So it has like a kind of slightly climbing shoe aesthetic, but it's like kind of an outdoorsy shoe as well. So basically it's got rubber kind of sides on it. So if you do need to climb a little bit, you can do that as well.
10:27But now it's like quite a stylish thing to wear in Dalston. What is the brand? And there's one called Village PM. Okay. That's quite a nice one that I'm looking at. And Puma have released one called The Klim. Oh, it's just without the B, so it's before you climb. Oh, I hadn't thought about that. but it's about with a K but maybe it's German if you're out for lunch and you need to scale the walls just get your Klim shoe on but I can definitely see them being they're going to be yeah yeah I'm sure I'm going to have a pair probably I probably will have a pair I like the idea of something having such a specific purpose and they're just never using it for that purpose yeah yeah yeah just because it then defines the aesthetic so properly yeah no I agree that's weird isn't it but I definitely agree yeah if you know that something was built for a purpose even if you're not using it for that purpose, it makes the build up.
11:16The design has intent. Exactly, yeah. Yeah. So there's another find for me, it was from Percival. They've just released their pleated jeans. Jeans? Jeans. I know the pleated trousers are sick, but the jeans? The jeans. Pleated jeans. As in the pleat is on the waist still? Yeah, yeah. They're really nice. And they're really comfortable. I think they look just like a straight leg. Okay, fine. Pleats are everywhere. And I'm all for it. Yeah. I just bought a new pair of pleats yesterday, actually white ones. Yeah. Summer. We're getting close to peak pleat. I genuinely it's too much pleat so I love these disparities but a part of my brain's thinking yeah we're gonna get there at some point and then everyone's gonna be like whoa yeah yeah never wear a pleat yeah yeah exactly because there's like pleat shorts that's fashion baby you see like pleat shorts they're quite cool no I haven't frankles more travel bags oh yeah yes and I guess kind of bougie as well I can't really moan at your new suitcase Oliver Spencer have done a new travel bag which is really cool I think a travel bag is one of few accessories that makes you feel like you're a man about town yeah it's like putting on a tie or a suit or a travel bag or a nice watch things like that that make you feel cool if you're on your way taking a weekend away somewhere and just rocking up well dressed and with a good travel bag chuck it in the bit yeah it's a cool look um yeah they've done a really one it's um black leather two pockets on the front of it quite boxy cotton interior like a navy cotton interior haven't got one so i don't know what it smells like but supposedly smells really nice um not sure what they've done to make it smell great like a leather bag or something else it was one of the sort of standout features that it smells amazing must be leather though because only leather really smells i guess but i love that portuguese yeah yeah um but yeah it looks really cool.
13:04I think a travel bag is always a good investment. But only holdals though, right? Yeah, yeah. Because we've seen the travel bags that are on your back. Oh, no, no, just a holdal. And it sucks everything in. No, no, not like a, sorry, no, no, no, no, no, say that again. Not like a wear all your suitcase travel bag with its own vacuum. No, they're so cool. You literally, they're not, they're not cool. You put your clothes in there, and you put everything in there. Yeah, you put a vacuum, it's like this big. There's nothing cool about that. And it sucks everything down so you can then fit more in time.
13:32Oh, yeah, yeah, fine. I thought you were talking about like the rucksack you could do that with. I thought you were talking about those jackets that like you put your clothes in. Oh, not those. Not those. No, not those. I mean, people, Zara did one last year. Mad. Going away for a weekend with a holdall, not having to check any luggage in, going straight through security, getting to an airport relatively last minute and doing that all successfully. It's a great feeling. Like nailing the arrival through board, other side, relatively fast. if you can do that without feeling any stress either yeah it's the best thing under control i think i've nailed it that would yeah it's a good feeling have you been to city airport before yeah mate unreal unbelievable airport yeah got there 20 minutes before basically the game was about to close yeah see if you if you're well dressed you've got a good hold on you're flying through security and fast track nothing can stop you yeah fast track is also quite important Nothing can stop me.
14:27That's what I live for. I've just got such a horrible brochure image of someone with a suitcase. Fast track is the key, though. Yes. I bought a Plus Pass for Gatwick. So now I can just go through. You're flying through Gatwick enough that that's fine. Well, yeah, I fly for East J in Europe. Okay. And they only go from Gatwick. So I bought a Plus Pass so I could always do fast track. So I don't ever carry like cold luggage. I just swan through. What are your fashion picks? Cole Buxton and Jigga Dexter, Co-Love. Have you seen all that stuff? I'm obsessed. I love all the accessories. They have a leather bag, which smells good.
15:12It smells like leather. It smells like leather. And then they also have a snapback or a hat with all the different like airport initials on the hat. It's just really nice. Just a quick one, guys. if you're loving what you're watching so far please please please please subscribe it really helps us make the content that we love making so much so if you're near around the subscribe button just move over a little little click
15:42right now for the headlines what's been going on in the world yeah what's been going on in the world the world we live in slightly negative one Barry Keegan getting sick of his appearance and then made a video actually talking about how it's affecting him which I thought was quite sad oh right I haven't seen that one yeah so he's been getting a lot of comments on all of his press interviews mostly after the Peaky Blinders has aired and it's things like I don't really want to repeat it but why is his nose so big, why does it look so different what's wrong with his hair and he made a video saying like it's up to me to appear in public i don't have to go to these places etc etc but this is now affecting my work and my art and i don't want to appear on camera which is a massive thing for an actor to say and i think quite topical sort of in how we speak to people online and also particularly men and just these comments that people are just throwing at him as if he's not a person yeah and then for him to make a video and say look this is making me not want to do my job massive thing especially for an actor of his popularity yeah absolutely that's horrible do you think that he'll just stop doing like public appearances on chat shows and interviews and stuff yeah i'm not sure i've seen some positive comments now come in after he's made that video and people sort of now getting behind him and supporting him but it's a strange thing isn't it that he he was and is so popular yeah and had this sort of rapid rise but then has quickly the moment something's gone a little bit wrong or he looks a bit different has been absolutely annihilated for it well part of his rapid rise was sort of because of that edgy look i feel like he was playing characters that were a bit yeah weird and that's something in saltburn he was naked at the end and everyone was talking about how good he looked i guess right do you remember that i do yeah yeah that's true and then now everyone's just forgotten i think it's interesting that when people become famous really quickly they get seen as a human less and when you sort of like grow with someone you know them or you feel like you might know them more as a person someone that exists online when someone just gets thrown into extreme fame for whatever reason people talk about them or comment on them or relate with them in a different way that's less human and I think that lends itself to nastier comments.
18:10It's just a bizarre thing, isn't it? I think people just forget they're talking to a person. Yeah, they're also human. Which obviously his video has probably made some people realise that. But on the whole, people are just commenting, not actually thinking that they are saying that to someone. Like imagine stopping him in the supermarket and being like, why is your nose so big? You wouldn't really do that. But for some reason online, it allows for that. you must have experienced that yourself didn't they what why is my nose so big no vitriolic comments on text off yeah I mean obviously not I was like what I really threw my surprise I mean I'm lucky now in that all of the work I do is relatively positive I've noticed and it goes back to the same point whenever someone has commented something about me and it'll be very rare but if there ever was a comment that got to me it's just a strange concept that someone is allowed to comment as if they know you yeah that's i think what gets to you is because then it's not it's not that it's got to me it's that i'm thinking other people have seen that comment yeah and it's as if that comment they could write anything and there's a degree of that must be true because it's been said yeah so you know say someone says something about you or what you do or your work or anything and then other people see that comment they don't know who that person is and people assume that it might be true and it's like this person has no idea who I am so I guess to some degree but yeah it's just that it's this weird internet space isn't it well talking about hatred online vitriol at comments and the kind of cultures that that can create there was the documentary that came out recently wasn't there Louis Theroux's Into the Manosphere which blew my little head off it is a crazy hour and a half it was really shocking that people actually feel emboldened and they've got community to be able in fact it's not just that the community supports it it's that the algorithm actively feeds this kind of behavior which makes me think it's way more systemic and difficult to deal with because of just how hate spreads online way quicker than positivity um but wow some shocking characters crazy isn't it it's it's frustrating is the word i'd use it's so frustrating that these people generate views yeah kind of like you said how do you stop it because even if it's negative even if it's hate it generates views and when the algorithm picks it up more people see about it we even talk about it on shows and it just spirals so it's like really annoying that sometimes the worst kind of people get the biggest platforms yeah even de-platforming them doesn't work because that guy was banned off every platform and then youtube gave unbound him and 2 million subscribers within 40 hours exactly content does just lend itself to yeah like polarizing things doesn't it things that are shocking to watch even if they're bad but then as you said it's dangerous if you filter that down to young lads watching it yeah anyone watching it that doesn't have an adult brain to understand why it's popular or yeah watched a lot and they start to think this is what's cool this is what thing for me was the amount of like younger kids that were huge fans of these people.
21:23Yeah, stopping them in the street for pictures. Yeah, it was crazy. That was worrying. And I'm also a bit annoyed that we're even talking about it now, like as you were saying. Yeah, I know. It kind of feeds the whole thing. It's kind of like pull your hair out, isn't it? Yeah. You can't ignore it. You have to ignore it. Did you see when Piers Morgan interviewed him? That was, again, frustrating. We've got like Piers Morgan who's supposed to be good at interviewing people. and on a huge platform again. And we're talking about the young guys following HS Tiki Toki. He's like given him a one-up in their minds.
21:58It's probably young guys watching it being like, ha ha, Piers Morgan, what type of show? That makes him the cool, the first Tiki Toki guy, the cool guy. Yeah, it was a disaster. Yeah, it's a real shame. He should have been more prepared and he should have known what was about to hit him. Yeah, because it just feeds into the whole thing, doesn't it? Who was it, Jordan? Yeah, Rizzle Kicks. I'm not sure of his surname, but he put a good video up. I'm sure if you searched Jordan Rizzle Kicks, you'd find his name. Yeah, sure. Yeah, and he spoke about it really well and offered some questions that he would have asked.
22:27He just went a bit more personal, didn't he? Yeah. He was kind of like... Why do you feel like this? Well, saying that he'd been abandoned by his dad as a child, how would that make you feel if you abandoned your own child because they were gay? Yeah. That's like an interesting entry. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's quite a good angle to... I'd love to see how he'd answered that. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, he did. He threw some good questions. in the mix which you're right would have allowed us to know this HS guy on a personal level and then probably dislike him and hope as in not me but probably he would show him his truth to other people well it's just a battleground to those kind of things no one's trying to get to any truth it's just like one upmanship and HS Tiki Toki knows that game better than anyone yeah true the streaming world's mad isn't it we're all probably a little bit older than the streaming world but if you're growing up now you're living in a streaming world and it's nuts all day long live streaming could you imagine living in the comments section yeah literally it'd be so boring to watch me I'd watch you really?
23:33just day to day just hanging out I'd be quite fun yeah your disaster early of your cream I would have laughed at yeah true I mean you felt yeah I was there yeah I guess and that's probably well that is why all of these people are so opinionated because they have to make it interesting Right, so Friday night It was the first SNL Live UK version Hang on, that's all right I was like, wait a second Am I going crazy? It's definitely called Saturday Night Live, right? I honestly thought I was just missing my mind So, it was the first SNL Live UK On Saturday And I think There were opinions floating around that maybe it wasn't that great i thought was great i hadn't actually watched like a sketch show through for like ages like just an hour of sketches i thought like the paddington bear sketch yeah it was like a live experience but it was actually like an actual bear just tearing people to shreds i don't know just like the creativity to be able to come up with all of those different yeah sketches um and that it's up and coming uk comedian talent um and there's some really really already i think you can see a few key like comedians that are gonna if it does well they'll probably take off they had wet legs so they had a musician on um and it was tina fey yeah who is of snl fame in the us who was hosting it so obviously isn't british like she's not but there's a lot of reference to that and how why she was there um but let's just see let's give it a few more episodes what's the structure of it so they have like guests there that they interact with and then it's like comedy sketch and then it'll move to the live band and then it'll be a break and then another comedy sketch it's just like a constantly rolling entertainment fest and i loved it nice i loved it so i thought the comedy was good um herb i think the next in the next couple episodes i want to see i guess more of a uk um name um from the uk hosting the whole show um for example last one laughing Bob Mortimer so did he'd take over the show though he hosted it it'd be incredible it'd be unbelievable it'd be amazing he is probably the funniest man alive yeah so my favourite comedian at the moment Sam Campbell he was also on that show and is also like quite weird on Last One Laughing yeah Last One Laughing he's got that same surreal sense of humour and it was like them two talking to each other was just my favourite thing yeah just if you haven't seen it it's a house full of comedians that try and make each other laugh and you lose when you laugh.
26:05And I think I lost all of 10 seconds. He's sung this song and it just throws in like weird words. And it's always the pauses, isn't it? Where he will say something really weird and then he'll just look at you and he'll just have one last sentence or word that sends you over the edge. Yeah. Football. It wasn't great for North London over the weekend. Arsenal took a battering. Yeah. And also Tottenham lost 3-0. Tottenham could be going down, right? They're one point. Yeah. One point. and I'm not gonna lie it would be crazy it'd be insane crazy a club the size of Tottenham in the Champions they have the most expensive stadium in the UK yeah over 1 billion out and they're gonna get relegated it would be a disaster because they wouldn't be able to afford any of their players none of their players would want to play in the Championship they'd have to sell it'd be an absolute disaster I think if they went down they'd struggle to come back up because it'd be that much of a problem in terms of their squad but I think it's good to ruffle up a few feathers I think I'd like to see them I know it starts really bad that laugh like if they get relegated that is mental interesting yeah that would change the whole game you could watch like a team just completely burn up yeah disappear imagine yeah just down down down yeah it could be i don't think there's oh well they probably would come back but like it'd be a long time do you know i met someone on the footballing topic um who are obviously trying to jump on the whole celebrity branding and climbing the leagues via turning a club into a brand yeah farnham fc who i think are on a three run promotion but a couple of guys who had a marketing agency that sold their marketing agency for quite a lot of money then bought farnham fc because it was their local club and i think like the average crowd to the league they play in would be about 30 people yeah like your mates come you get 1500 people every game they're on their third promotion they're paying players to come down from a couple of leagues and they've turned it into this brand obviously trying to replicate what's been done at rexham but it is like taking a marketing brain to a football club football club is an interesting way of getting things moving but sounds like it's working and the momentum must build of if fans are interested and then better players want to come the experience for the players that do play is going to get better you generate more money from ticket sales and merch so you can play it's a snowball isn't it it's a business going outside is so in during spring festive lows for a limited time get extra big deals on select holland pavers three for one dollar plus save seventy dollars on the charbroil performance four burner grill now 179 dollars and chef up shareables for your whole crew Picture-perfect patios and good food?

29:40Right, hot topic. I've got a new tattoo actually. I didn't know you had any tattoos. I've got four. Do you? Yeah. They're all very visible. Oh, not currently. Not currently, yeah. No, but I've worn clothes where you can see them. This was in France, right? Yeah. What does the ball mean? I got that in Milan. There's a ball you spin on three times for good luck. What does that say? Lenino? It means the beginning in Italian. I got that in Puglia. What is the... And the eyebrows? These eyebrows. Oh, sorry, what are they? Mountains? No. I got that in Madrid. It's three M's. Madrid may matter means Madrid you kill me because it's so beautiful.
30:19They don't have that much meaning they're just fun. So is that three tattoos or one tattoo? That's a little sailing boat which I got in Cannes. So is these your four tattoos? Yeah. Oh nice. Did you think that was the tongue? Tongue, eyebrows. Is that why you're asking about the eyebrows? I did then I realised it was horns but that still looks like eyebrows from a quick glance. Maybe I should just put some ears here. Yeah you should. I think I feel like I've broken the seal to go again now. Yeah. Might just keep getting tats. They're addictive, aren't they? Yeah, they are. I've booked in another session as well.
30:48Have you? Yeah, I'm excited. Are you getting it? Oh, I know I want to get a tattoo here on my... I think I've got like a nice body. So I've got like a V here. What, you think you've got a nice body? So I've got a V here. So like I want to get something written on the V. Okay. Do you know like... You know when you start, you've got the V here. Right. I want to get a tattoo on my V here. My body's not nice enough for the V. So you're committed to the V for the rest of your life now? Yeah. Yeah, true. I'm not getting the letter V. I'm getting a phrase on the V to be written here. Yeah, but if you, like, lose the V in time.
31:22Oh, no, no, no. I won't ever lose the V. Really? No, no, no. I can't. Okay. In your 60s, just full V. I'm going to the gym all the time just to maintain the V. Nice. So you know where the tat's going to be. You know you want one, but you're not sure what you're going to get. No idea, yeah. Yeah. I want words. So is there a reason why you have such a good body at the moment, then?
31:43Yeah, help us out. this is this segue is so good i'm currently training for a high rocks which is actually happening tonight um so i've trained yeah i've this time yeah so last time i did it i didn't train at all whereas this time i've been training for the past like three weeks eating well weeks that's not enough but it was quite intense so like i have a high rocks gym near my flat and um they do like these special classes to lead up to it nice um so everything's like a quite high intensity, a lot of running, a lot of weight. So that's when I actually signed up three weeks ago as well. So I just started from that moment.
32:23Are you feeling good for it? I think so. I'm not nervous this time. I don't know if it's because my mind doesn't know that it's actually doing it today until it comes later on. Because it's late. It's in the evening, 7 o 'clock. But I'm eating well today, carb loading, just to make sure. Because I'm going to run topless this time. To get the V out. Mate, the V will be on show. Honestly. Do you enjoy the whole High Rocks experience? Because I feel like that's why it's become popular. Yeah, I think I just love more that I've completed it. Okay, cool. I think it's the getting to the end. And the images afterwards?
33:03Yeah, the images are good. Yeah, they are good. The V is again on show in the images. And you'll see from the last time. Today's V program coming soon. Yeah, literally. But I'm not someone that would make it. It's not my whole personality. Train with Tunday. For me. Yeah, that's why I was sort of, that's what I was teasing at is, has it become too much of a cult community or does it not feel like that when you're doing it? For me personally, not really. However, there are a lot of people that will talk and do every High Rocks under the sun. I mean, they've got a High Rocks cruise now where you can go for seven days and do it every day for seven days.
33:37Wow. Action mental. And people aren't buying it. There's worse cults to have than a fitness club. Oh yeah, true. But yeah, what they've built is incredible. I am excited. They had the elite ones over the weekend and they're getting like 48 minutes to do it. How long is it going to take you? I did last year in one hour 20. I'm aiming for one hour 10 tonight. It's a slog, isn't it? It is. One 10 is pretty decent, isn't it? Yeah, one 10 is like good average. Yeah, that's what I'm aiming for. If you were doing under an hour, you're like... You're incredible. Yeah. But under an hour is... That's intense for that long period of time, isn't it?
34:12So intense. It's like you're sprinting in between, is that right? No. No. No, no, no. Just a 1K jog between every exercise. And what have you got? Like skier, rowing, war balls, lunges, burpees. Sled ball, yeah. Sled push. Oh, that's everything. What's the worst? War balls. And it's 100 at the end. At the end. So you've done all the exercise. You've run eight kilometers. And you've got to do squat and chuck a ball in the air. a hundred times 8k how long should 8k take you if you were just running it 45 to 50 minutes and then you have these exercises between yeah gross no yeah I went to the gym recently and then after that for the first time yeah very different I've been training this year I actually went to the gym in case you didn't know I did a class okay but then I I decided to run home from it it's like a a k and a half yeah oh it's horrible that was the worst bit about the whole thing What, the run home?
35:08Run home. Talking about looking good. Yeah. Have you heard of looks maxing? It's in the same world. Looks maxing. I can't believe you haven't heard of this. It's kind of, no, I'm not going to say it's you actually, but I feel like it's a slippery slope for you. Slippery slope for me? Yeah. Please enlighten me. I'm in what? You're on the path. Of looks maxing. So is looks maxing a verb or a noun or? A verb, I guess. Yeah. To looks max. So do I, am I looks maxing now? No. No, no, no. It's like, it's a real extreme approach to like either looking, well, yeah, aesthetics, basically. So like one of, a couple of the extreme like things that they use to look better is they break their cheekbones.
35:53Yeah. Micro break their bones so that it swells and they get better cheekbones, basically. So it's all crazy things around, yeah, making yourself look more like a Chad. Yeah, yeah, yeah. There's a guy that does this. Yes. I forgot his name. Clavicular. Yes. I'm not going to lie, he's good looking. He is very good looking. Whatever he's doing. I didn't realise that it was like that extreme. I think this is closer to the manosphere. Oh, definitely. Yeah. Do you see? It's shocking. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's all about like the peak masculine male form. But it's not. There's nothing masculine about spending hours hitting your face with a mini hammer to make yourself look better.
36:32But if you do that, then you can mog people. so can we just rewind all sorts we're very Gen Z here aren't we it's fascinating you said I'd be close to looks you think I'm gonna knock all my bones out of my face no no no I'm saying like the extreme of like body like being interested in getting your body to a certain place that's not me no I'm not saying it's you you said it earlier both of you I'm on the path I didn't you said I'm on the path to it there's obviously a spectrum to everything and this is at the top extreme I'm at the extreme bottom then just going to the gym if that's looks maxing then fine gym facial routines you know grooming no Botox though none of that would Botox be looks maxing I think it's going into that world it's very different to being a well-groomed gen isn't it it's very toxic oh yeah sure it's all about comparison to other people yeah and how much of a man you are sorry you think this is me no no no no let's just forget okay thank you redacted yeah because it also is like people breaking their legs to be taller would that count as the same oh that's definitely that there that is yeah which is crazy that the big thing online is about comparison between you and someone else so it's what's called mogging if you stand next to someone else or in the same like photo frame or video frame as someone else and they look better than you more chiseled more chad like they've mogged you what yeah but you guys are more chiseled than me so what you're mogging me right now right Right, cheers guys.
38:05I don't feel rich as well. But that's the thing. I feel mugged.
38:10I've been mugged. I've been mugged, mate.

38:22To finish, we're going to turn to the listeners' dilemmas. So, first up, the best hairstyling products. I'm the wrong person to ask. We did a bit of a video on this, on SMM, didn't we? We did, yeah. Murdoch Matte Mud is my go-to. Okay. You have to have your hair almost dry. If I have my hair completely dry, sometimes it gets a bit sort of stuck. But if it's just a little bit wet, it goes through it a bit easier. I love your hair. Do you use hair products or something? Sorry. The way the top, the front just flicks down. Oh, it's so hot. Just like your bees, don't they? Yeah, just like me. Do I use hair products in my hair?
38:59I just use like hair cream. I did actually use this Garnier one recently. I can't remember what it's called. It's like a green tub. I'm in the kind of clay department as well. So there's a brand called Hans Dufoco. Great name. Hans Dufoco. Yeah, they do. And there's one called Quicksand, which I think I've mentioned before, but it has quite a grainy, like sand-like texture. Okay. And it is weirdly quite light and malleable. So it's just, it's quite simple to put in your hair. I know that sounds like a boring thing to say, but when you get a tub of matte paste or whatever that's rock solid, it's so annoying.
39:39I'm having to dig into it. This is quite easy. Does this hair count as hair? Yeah. Because I look after my beard. I had this oil from Nukes, actually. I think it actually just launched, and I love it. I'm obsessed with it every day. My hair feels silky, smooth, and I just run my hands around. It feels so nice. And I've noticeably seen a change as well about how thick my hair is. Right, let's touch on engagements quickly. When is the right time to propose? Whenever you want to get married. Because five years from school to finishing uni to working is different from five years meeting someone working.
40:18Do you know what I mean? So it's like, I don't think a time length is important ever. If you know that you're going to be a person for the rest of your life. Well, that I was going to ask, do you need to know that they're going to say yes? Do you need to know that? Oh, I think so. Not asked it, but do you know what I mean? I know it. Yeah. I feel like you kind of should know that. Yeah. The actions should be quite telling, right? So if you're unsure if they'd say yes, are they the right person? Yeah, basically. Yeah, that should be the question. You should feel pretty secure that they're going to say yes.
40:54But I do know people that have said no. I think if it feels like you're doing it on a like, not on a whim, but like if you're throwing a bit of a portion to the wind. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Maybe not, yeah. Yeah, interesting. I knew for sure. I can't remember. I don't know if we, I feel like we might have talked about it. I forget now, but there was a sense of just. Yeah, yeah. Do you feel like practically you need to be set up for it? What's set up? Locationally, career wise. No. No. No? No, because it's like a commitment to the future and it's just... How you do it. It's a gesture at that point. If you're not ready for the wedding, which I've been engaged for four years.
41:36Have you? Yeah. I did not know that. Move on. I did not know that. The question should be, how long after the wedding should you get married? Do you know when you want to get married? No, that's the other thing. We looked at Lake District. We looked at other places because our families are not from London. oh fine yeah so it's like figuring out where's the best place to do it so back to my question perhaps that's more important for the wedding the engagement is a commitment to the future and the wedding is being prepared yeah yeah but again you don't have to spend loads of money no you don't do it on a budget yeah I'm a real do it whatever you want I think I'm a wedding connoisseur I've been to hundreds of weddings and I've been to weddings that have been from all budget sizes and every one of them have been so beautiful.
42:27So like, I don't feel you need to have the millions of pounds to do a wedding. See, some of the smaller weddings I've been to have been stunning. Do you know what I mean? So, I feel like you're a good addition to a wedding. I am a great addition to a wedding, actually. I'm always put on the best table because I'm calling, I have the best laughs, I dance well. The best laughs. Yeah. You have the best laughs. No, no, as in like, have you done any speeches? At a wedding? Yeah. No, never, because I'm never really the best man. You're just keeping things in check. Yeah, it's just quite sad. Yeah, I'm just, yeah, I'm just, I'm a good party guest.
42:58Yeah. I've got seven weddings this summer, so let's go. Right, so basically you know when you know. Yeah, 100%. Is it as simple as that? Probably, yeah. That wraps things up for this week's episode. Thank you so much for watching. It's been a hell of a lot of fun. Please subscribe, and also you can see what we're wearing on the YouTube video, so go and check us out there.
43:39We'll be right back.

This week on the SL Man Podcast, Harvey is joined by Frankie and Tunde for a wide-ranging catch-up on style, culture and a few unexpected tangents. The guys kick things off by looking at the chaos and confusion surrounding the first UK episode of SNL, before diving into everything from ‘mogging’ to ‘looksmaxxing’ and whether modern self-confidence is heading in the right direction.
There’s plenty of lighter chat too – spring optimism, gym routines, Hyrox prep and some strong opinions on pints, travel bags and why a good airport run just hits different. As always, the fashion talk delivers with the trio covering outfit breakdowns, recent pick-ups and the trends currently on their radar. They also get into more serious territory, discussing online toxicity, celebrity scrutiny and the impact of social media culture today – plus, tattoos, weddings and what actually makes someone a great guest.
