In short
The SheerLuxe Podcast episode mixes (1) Nana’s short trip to Seoul and K-beauty shopping, (2) celebrity fashion/press-tour talk about The Devil Wears Prada 2 premiere looks, (3) London restaurant recommendations, (4) marathon prep and wellness routines, and (5) “Taurus season” discussion about pressure and not comparing yourself—especially as childless women in their mid-30s/40s.
Guests
Nana Achampong (style, marathon runner; uses acupuncture and crystal/sound healing; recently returned from Seoul) and Maya Lucky (beauty/fashion picks; watches Testaments; joins restaurant and travel talk). Host: Charlotte Collins.
Key claims
Plan B is backup contraception that delays ovulation and doesn’t affect future fertility (ad). Emily Blunt’s Schiaparelli dress at the Devil Wears Prada 2 world premiere “stole the show.” Olive Young is the Seoul K-beauty shopping must-visit; K-beauty can be cheaper there. Comparison is “a thief of joy,” and people shouldn’t assume childless women have it easier.
Notable examples
MediCube pore pads; “salmon sperm” PDRN trend (Genabelle); Dove burger limited to 10/night; Mazza (Greek) in Mayfair; Tacaria/TAC taco-burger concept; Nana’s acupuncture with electrical pulse; London Marathon emotional/charitable energy; Testaments (Handmaid’s Tale sequel) on Disney.

0:30Charlotte Collins:This week on the Sheerlucks podcast, I'm joined by Nana and Maya, and we are getting into the nitty gritty of Nana's trip to Seoul. She has lots of recommendations, including everywhere you need to know about the amazing vintage finds. They have the most insane collection of vintage Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Kristen Dior, like just everything. And I walked in and one of the girls was stood there with a tripod doing an Instagram live. I just felt at home. I was like, if only I spoke Korean. We are, of course, debunking the biggest press tour in the world right now, The Devil Wears Praja 2. Emily Blunt at the world premiere.
1:09Schiaparelli. I don't have enough superlatives to describe how phenomenal this dress was.
1:16Charlotte Collins:And finally, all three of us are childless in our mid-30s, 40s. And we are talking about why we are not comparing ourselves to others. Reasons for being childless are different. But when people do that to me, I'm like, yeah, and that's fucking why. Stay tuned. It's going to be a good one.
1:44Charlotte Collins:Welcome to the Sheerlucks podcast with me, Charlotte Collins. This week I'm joined by Nana Achampong and Maya Lucky. Hi, babe. Hi, how are you? I'm good. I am there's like a full intro here which I've ignored we're getting into all the latest celebrity moments in pop culture news sharing what's been on our minds this week and rounding things off by tackling your dilemmas lovely lovely that's what's about to happen that is what you can expect I think I'm also supposed to give a hard plug to subscribe as well before we keep going so if if you like what you've heard so far no seriously if you do enjoy our podcast every week then please do subscribe it really does help us out and means we can keep going so press that subscribe button now please hi hi let's do it nana what have you got i'm doing a monochrome green look today this blazer is so old i think it's from zara it's either zara or h &m very oversized have cinched it in with a leopard print belt from mango and i've got some really nice these are new green satin bermuda shorts from frankie shop i love them And then I've got on my white wedges from Zara.
2:53Those shoes are great. So they've just brought them out again then. Oh, have they? When did you buy these? Last year? Yeah, these are like last year. They've just come out again because they're like the Totem. Yeah. Yeah. Because that's a really good shoe. Yeah. It's a good shoe. I've actually, I bought them twice last year because they're really comfortable. Yeah, they look great. And I love, I love a white shoe. Yeah. Love. You love it. I do. I'm wearing an ASOS Arrange, quite fun woven tassel top. I love that. Zara white jeans. These are actually Felicity Bird's shoes that she left in my suitcase last week.
3:23Charlotte Collins:So they're mine now. We'll give them back to you. And a mint velvet leather jacket. Love it. I feel like I'm wearing the nighttime version of your outfit. There's not that many downsides to our jobs. But one real downside is having to get dressed at 7 a.m. for your entire day. I was at a dinner last night. I think I was probably one of the only people in there with a full-time office job. And everyone just like swans in looking incredible. because they've been at home they've been at home and I'm like I've been in this outfit for 12 hours what would I do and you've been exposed to the office air con for like 9 hours which is not lovely my face has been eaten by the air con yeah it's like it's not fresh anyway today was a busy day I didn't have time for multiple outfits so I'm wearing what I'm wearing tonight you're doing lovely I've got the Devil Wears Prada 2 Premier tonight I know I'm excited so I'm wearing these are Almada silk trousers I've got on like a I feel like sitting down you maybe can't get the full effect.
4:19Charlotte Collins:But it's a kind of halter neck satin high neck Zara dress top, depending on how tall you are, that's also very fringed. This is a dish blazer and my Bottega flats. Gorgeous. Do you know what, having a pair of really smart flats is the most useful thing in the whole world. I know you're right, I don't care. I can't relate, but I do love those. If I was gonna wear flats, it would definitely be those. They're gorgeous.
4:46Charlotte Collins:let's talk about things we're loving what are you actually nanny you're running the marathon in four days i know so i have just been getting in the last bits of marathon training and all of the wellness i'm gonna have an iv drip i am gonna have a massage acupuncture has anyone I love acupuncture so much. Oh my gosh, it has been a game changer. I had it for the first time a couple of weeks ago just because I was having some real niggles in my right knee. Game check, like it's gone. Really, it did feel like it fixed it. It's amazing. Completely. So I'm having another session. Really great girl called Rachel who was recommended to me.
5:29And she's just like an angel. She also puts these little kind of electrical pulse. I saw that. I've never heard that. Yeah, so it vibrates. So it's kind of, it really goes like deep into the muscle. Can you feel it? Yeah, so as soon as it starts to feel too painful, she's like, then it's too strong. It's like a meter from like 0 to 4 and she just puts it up by like 0.5 every kind of like couple of seconds.
5:55Charlotte Collins:Have you also had the thing where they, it's like something they light? Oh yeah, I've seen that but I've not had it yet. Yeah, I've had it and they like light it on fire. It's almost like an incense. Yeah, and it burns down. Yeah, and it burns down. And then you suddenly get the kind of, and it goes out. But yeah, it's interesting. Because I've had, I get acupuncture quite regularly. And I think people are curious as to whether it hurts or not. And I think it doesn't hurt unless it's going into a tense. And then you're a bit like, it doesn't really hurt, hurt then. But you're like, I've had like things go in my feet and I can feel it up here in my thigh.
6:29And I'm like, oh my God, it's done something. But that's Reiki, always. It's like that. It's all that moving the energy. Yeah, it really is. Completely. That is what acupuncture is. Yeah, it's just moving it all around. Telling your body to start doing things. Yeah, shifting.
6:40Charlotte Collins:Yeah. I've had it done all the way down my spine before, which is quite weird because you can kind of feel the sort of, I think you can quite like that. Yeah, it's nice. There's a version of it in your head versus what it actually looks like, right? If it's being done to an area that you can't picture, or you can't see, you draw all sorts of weird, because the energy's moving, so you don't actually know where it is in your body. She put it in my head, here in my forehead, and at one point I forgot it was there and it it didn't hurt and I was like no no it was fine and I was like oh I forgot that was there I was like is it moved she was like no you're all right but that's a chakra thing isn't it yeah yeah because when I've had Reiki in the past and like crystal healing they've done I've seen an amazing actually I've never spoken about her before this her name is Jane and she her brand is called house of Juroki she's a crystal healer she's a sound bath practitioner yeah she also did a past life reading for me oh my gosh which was wild like absolutely fascinating and just because like it brought up something that it like it was just so neat how it could possibly relate to my adult life anyway i cannot recommend an hour with that woman more it is like you know they suss out where the energy is and what the negative energy is and then they just use reiki and crystals just like i'd love to do that all away yeah i yeah i definitely I'm like a complete convert I was like why has no one told me about this I was like they probably have and I just wasn't hadn't yeah hadn't registered yeah but yeah what you were saying about it hurting the only point it hurt is when she put it into my knee and kind of like found the spot problem area where the injury was and then she was like no that's fine she was like you've reacted really well so and then it was yeah it's all good so yeah seeing her I'm very excited because I'm running with New Balance who props to them because they've really gone to town on making sure that we're all all right for the marathon so i'm staying in the one hotel three nights um so yeah she's gonna come to the hotel do some acupuncture so nice you're sitting there for three nights yeah i know i've moved in yeah i live there now yeah check in on friday and don't check out till monday morning that is unreal um so yeah lots of fun things going on and there's like New Balance House, kind of.
8:56I need to go and pick up my bib. Yes, of course. And all of that.
8:59Charlotte Collins:I can't think of anything worse than slapping out to the expo center to pick up a bib. But my husband, who is a keen marathon runner, that is his best part of the whole marathon. His favorite bit. He loves the expo. It's like exciting. Because it's so exciting, there's all this merch, and you get your number, and I'm like, that sounds awful. That's a day out. Big day out for runners. You come back with a load of tote bags. Yeah, especially with this, like, you literally get like bamboozled. You're like, oh, I need this, So like I need that and everything like looks new and shiny. What is in your toolkit?
9:27Charlotte Collins:Have you got electrolytes? Have you got, what have you got up your sleeve? So it's electrolytes, gels, Percy pigs. From last year, headache tablets, which I did halfway around because it was so hot last year. You just couldn't drink enough water and stay hydrated and beat the sun. So I'd say the last two hours, I had a really bad headache and I actually stopped to speak to like St John's ambulance. And I was like, can I have a tablet? And they're like, you need to fill out this form. Oh my God. And you're like, I'm not. I'm running, I'm marathon. I was like, literally. I was like, do you know what?
10:02Just take a break to it. Yeah, bye. If you can sit here, fill this out. And I was like, for some headache tablets. And they were like, yeah.
10:10Charlotte Collins:Do you know what? I've had that on a plane before, where I've lost a process when you have to fill out a form. Because like people giving you medicine is like. Yeah, yeah. So that is my biggest tip. but I would say just definitely pack some like head-o tablets, ibuprofen, whatever. Absolutely. And then, yeah, that's kind of it. I've told my friends that are coming, I'm like, have a Lucozade sport. Ready to hand over to you. Yeah, ready to hand over at some point. That'll be nice. But yeah, that's it. Just vibes. And outfit sorted? Outfit is sorted. Yes, I believe so. Red. I'm going with red. Nice.
10:43Yeah. And plans for after? Plans for after. There's loads of after parties. It's like, honestly, the marathon is a full on weekend of just events. There's like pre-events, events on the day. And then, yeah, afterwards, New Balance having an after party. Lulu Lemon are having an after party. One of my friends runs a run club. He's having an after party. Are they like recovery parties or are they like boozy parties? Both. So there's like one corner where there'll be like massages. Cheesily. Yeah. you can you can have a massage but you can also go to the bar and celebrate and have a drink and really great djs and oh yeah it'll just be really fun but straight after my biggest tip as well i'll be going to 180 to have an ice bath sauna shower and then i'll go up and have a roast dinner oh you'll literally go there from the marathon yeah that's why i did that last year and i think that is why I could still walk the next day okay oh really yeah it really helped my muscles that's a top tip because people are for four days like yeah yeah I got on a plane last year and I was like yeah I was absolutely fine we've got less runners than last year but we've got you
11:58Charlotte Collins:and then we've also got Maddie on our team as well so I need to catch up with her yeah how she's doing she's amazing and her story we'll put her just giving link in the notes below yeah um but She is running in aid of her dad who passed away and he was a key marathon runner. And it's really, yeah, it's really, really. I know everyone that runs the marathon. I was training at the weekend and someone was in the Olympic park and someone was dressed up as, I don't know, maybe like a big giant chicken or something. It was just like a big inflatable. And I was just like, and I was like, you're just practicing.
12:36and already I'm like crying. It is one of the most emotional days of the year. Like it's so insane. I've never run it, but as a bystander, I watch these people go by and I start thinking about their stories and I just start crying and making it on the spot.
12:48Charlotte Collins:I've watched a lot of marathons and of all the ones that I've been to as a witness, London is 100 % the best energy because it's the most charitable. I know people do New York for charity, but there is something so special in the air about London. And I also think that the BBC coverage of it every year is absolutely incredible. So if you do nothing else but sit and watch it from 8 a.m., it is, I think, the most heartwarming. We all need a bit of, like... Yeah. Especially in these times. Exactly. I have a hilarious story about the BBC coverage. A friend of mine, I won't name their name, but it was mentioned in their wedding speech.
13:21A friend of mine had to play football that day and was running late and lives in Greenwich. And obviously the... I reckon goes through that quite early on. Yeah. And he was like, fuck it, I'm just going to run. I'm going to drive, sorry, across the... Obviously not hitting anyone. but like drove around an open part of the marathon track and the police swarmed around him. I'm not surprised. He was on BBC coverage. No. And his... I think it was terrorism. A family member was watching the TV and was like, I think bleep is on BBC News. Oh my God. Yeah, it was an act of terrorism. He explained it and it was absolutely...
13:54He was like, I'm just trying to get to football.
13:57Charlotte Collins:They thought he was trying to like plough into the crowd. Yeah. I'm surprised there's any bit that you can even get close to in a car. I know, well clearly he found a gap. Clearly, yeah. Yeah. Oh my gosh. It was all fine. He's a very nice person. Not a terrorist. No, the police were fine about it. Oh, fun. Have the best day. I know. Can't wait to see how you do. I can't wait. What about you? What are you loving right now? I am watching Testaments on Disney. So am I. So good. Yeah. So it's the sequel of Handmaid's Tale, which I think is one of the best TV programs ever, ever, ever, ever, ever made.
14:30But it's about June's daughter, basically. and her coming of age and I've only watched three? Yeah, four. I'm on four. Four episodes. It's like her coming of age and she goes from being, what's it called? A purple to a green, which is where you go from being, a plum to a green. So it's being a girl that's being groomed to be a future wife to a green, which is obviously a wife that then gets married off to one of the commanders. And I was missing a bit of June actually in my life and she comes back. Yeah, she has a little cameo in this series.
15:00Charlotte Collins:June is Elizabeth Moss's character. Yeah. Got it. Got it. so for people I mean I'm sure everybody knows but The Handmaid's Tale obviously Margaret Atwood novel that was adapted into a successful TV show and then this is the spin off and is Margaret Atwood involved was there a book she wrote this book after the success of The Handmaid's Tale and this is now what they've made into the new TV show got it we should say caveat we know they spoke about this last week we know Josh had the chat but we wanted to talk about it too and Josh can't have all the fun so you had views on it yeah I just think A it's so good I was worried because it's on Disney that it might just be a bit of a fluffy version of Handmaid's Tale.
15:35Yeah. B, I love how sort of like the color and everything cinematic, it all looks so gorgeous. But it kicks off pretty gruesome from the start, doesn't it? No, it does, definitely. And I love, I think it's Chase, is that - Chase Infinity. Yeah, from One Born. No, One After Another. One battle, one battle after another. One Born Every Minute. But definitely not it. Different shows. She's grown up. Yeah. she was on that and now she's in little known fact one best laugh to another I think she is a fantastic actress she's doing really really well in that and yeah I think it's just you can just see the story being set up for some major kind of like bombshell and that's what I really kind of buy into
16:22Charlotte Collins:and do you I am slightly hesitant to watch it because at the point at which The Handmaid's Tale was written you know however many 20 30 years ago it was dark but maybe unrealistic yeah whereas now you know with everything going on in the world is it not a little too close to home that's 100 realistic yeah it could easily happen yeah it is i thought that watching the handmaid's tale like when it first came out and this is definitely a continuation of that so you kind of have to watch something fluffy afterwards okay i think it's a good thing that they're making it because it makes us all anti. Yeah, true.
17:00True. Whatever that is. Yeah, yeah. We're not doing it.
17:03Charlotte Collins:Yeah, we're not doing it. I always remember that in that, I think it's like the first page of The Handmaid's Tale, they say how it kind of got to that stage and basically it's like they seized the banks, right? They took over the digital banking and that was it. Everybody was fucked and I'm always a bit like, I mean, that could happen to you. I don't have any cash, you? Yeah. Where's the cash? We should all have cash under our mattresses. Everyone's got cash under our mattresses. I do my best side. When I do a car boot, I keep my cash rather than... Well, don't tell us where. I'm not going to tell you where.
17:30Somewhere secret. Somewhere secret, but yeah, have cash so that there's like, it's just good to...
17:35Charlotte Collins:To have a bit on hand. Yeah, you should really buy gold. That is the thing that they say because gold... Yeah, because obviously gold massively can appreciate and I mean, that is effectively what cash is symbolic of, isn't it? So gold is the currency. The future, when all our banks get seized, all those people with all the gold. Exactly. You should be buying those boyons or whatever they're called. I mean, I don't know about you, but I saw an influencer this morning put up a video of her like sat on the floor of her cabin and she was like and sometimes I just sit here and look at all of this and think this used to be money.
18:05Oh my God. So valid. So valid. What's the point money in the bank account? It doesn't mean anything.
18:09Charlotte Collins:Can't take it with you. Like someone said the other day it's just numbers on a screen. What does it even mean? Yeah. So true. It comes and goes you know buy the thing. Money always comes back round. Yeah yeah. Virginia taught me that. Money creates money. Yeah she was like if you want the bag buy the bag. Yeah. Can I quickly talk about two restaurants that I love? Yes. So two, well, new-ish London openings. One is Tac. Tacaria has long existed in Westbourne Grove. And Jackson Boxer of Dove of Brunswick has taken it over. Just to kind of give it a little zhuzh. So it's still, it was a taco restaurant, still Mexican.
18:49Charlotte Collins:And he's just kind of made it a little bit better. The food was always good. But like, oh my God, you guys, the food was so good. but like so good. At Dove, which is his Notting Hill, it was Orisea Notting Hill, rebranded as Dove about a year and a half ago. So good. Have you had the burger? No, because they only make a limited number every night, don't they? They do. So there's only, so this, I haven't either. There's this Dove burger, which is like supposed to be like the best burger you've ever eaten in your entire life, but they do 10 a day. So you have to be there at like 4.30 or something to get this burger.
19:17Charlotte Collins:So I haven't bothered. But at TAC, they are doing a burger, like a Dove burger, taco, I wouldn't really call it a taco. It's basically like a taco with then the burger on top, melted chip. Yeah. It is honestly, I'm not a burger girl. Oh my gosh, I need to go. They've always done a tuna tostada there, which, you know, like a big flatbread with tuna, like a tuna ceviche on top. Oh my God, I don't know what they've done to this new one, but you know when you're like, and another one, straight away. I love tuna tostada. And is it like elevated Mexican or is it like you go and it's quite a good taco?
19:51Charlotte Collins:Do you know what? It's one of those places that will, the price will creep up on you. It'll fall you into, lull you. Because you get small bits, small bits, small bits. Exactly. But vibes wise, super casual, super quick. Like don't go there expecting a kind of long old meal. But yeah, and it's kind of chalkboards and chill. Yeah. Very chill. But like the food was. I'm salivating. Yeah, I'm going to add that to my list. Also just on that note, that thing about only making X an evening and they're right early. That is bloody genius because restaurants struggle to get people in between sort of like three and six.
20:25Smart, smart, smart. There you go.
20:27Charlotte Collins:Something to borrow for your pub. Exactly, exactly. Oh my gosh, yeah, of course. That's clever. Yeah, that's really clever. Do you like this? It's happy hour basically, but with an exclusive dish. But you don't realise you're being marketed to. You just think you're getting there in front of the queue. It's true. The rest of us have sussed out happy hour. Yeah, that is a whole other level. Anyway, your next. The next one is Mazza, which is so nottingham a kind of a great notting hill greek local is well there's two there's there's mazzy and there's susie tross they're basically next door to each other they're slightly they're kind of off notting hill gate really really good authentic greek and they have opened mazza in mayfair which is on bruton like behind bruton street which is like behind bruton square yeah and just really really good greek food really vibey we went on saturday night and it was fun how cool like great bar full full of like people our age yeah and the food was unbelievable just like I love Greeks I love Greek food it is one of my favourites me too and like chicken suvlaki incredible yeah what else oh they did these like zucchini balls flat fries zucchini balls with this like honey dip yummy so good so I really highly recommend that it was fun and you could definitely like have a little maybe boogie's too strong but you could have some kind of vibey drinks in the bar.

21:44Okay, that's nice because it is hard to find places in London that you can do that. Do both. Yeah, I think so. It's either always like one or the other. Yeah. And if you want to finish dinner at like 11.30 and you're like, where should we go next? And you end up crawling the streets of Soho trying to find somewhere. Literally. And you end up on Greek Street. Yeah. Every time. And Greek Street.
22:03Charlotte Collins:It's so true. Do you know what? Quick shout out actually because we, so quite a kind of, our commercial team and a couple of us on editorial had a lunch on Friday to celebrate the success of our commercial team because I had FOMO. Yeah, we missed everything else. And so it was a lunch that started at one and at 8.15, it was like, where are we going next? Oh my gosh. But we went to the one, which actually, credit to Sapna, because she remembered that we were, there were a group of 10 of us in Mayfair at 8.15 on a Friday night. And the one bar is actually, again, great vibes. That's so great. So I tore all the, I felt a bit like I was babysitting, but I tore all the young girls who were left.
22:43Charlotte Collins:my favourite game one of my friends game which is when the DJ's playing like just a like and you want it to be a song you basically just match the beat with a song that you really like and you'll start singing yeah so you basically just like you kind of hear the beat hear the beat and then you're like you go with the Taylor Swift it kept some very drunk girls amused for an hour oh that's so fun that is a really I do really love the bar in there it's so nice isn't it I've never been I'll have to remember that it's really lovely and it's like busy but not so busy that you can't walk in so I recommend you will you will be there sunday night i'm sure exactly
23:20Charlotte Collins:let's talk about fashion finds what are on your wish list fashion and beauty there's a bit of beauty in here as well yes i mine is k-beauty because it's like i've just discovered it
23:34Charlotte Collins:yes well you're fresh back from seoul yeah which we'll talk about a bit later but yeah back from so I really went on a K Beauty deep dive whilst I was there. There is a brand, is it MediQ? Oh, I love MediQ. I use their pore pads. This is what I've got. I've got all of the pore pads in every variation. So the vitamin C, the collagen, the blemish. Doing it all. And I'm just gonna, yeah, have a really great time. They'd like, there's a hundred pads. Oh yeah, it's really good value. Really good value. Yeah, it looks amazing actually. Thank you. um so yeah i late to the beauty game on k-beauty but that medicube is my new is that the best thing you discovered um you told me you went to the sephora equivalent every day yes so uh in south korea in seoul they have a shop called olive young which is basically the korean version of sephora but on crack okay like i have never seen a shop every single one like there were more olive youngs and there were starbucks wow they are on every single corner some of them are the size of i don't know it felt like westfield like they were just huge and it's just korean beauty inside just korean beauty like some of them you can go and have your like face scanned and do the whole kind of like skin work like certificate whatever you get from it um but yeah there were girls in there with like suitcases so oh my god like stocking up and actually opening their suitcases and putting everything that they bought in i remember seeing isabel laura doing that she went and bought i think she bought romero as well which is a bit mental just to bring her beauty products back yeah honestly i it was the most overwhelming shop i've ever been into did you research before like what you should be buying when you're there so So I had to kind of, I got there, went into Olive Young.
25:34Everyone was like, you have to go to Olive Young. Got there and was like, oh my gosh, I have no idea what I'm doing. Left and then went in every single day after that with a list that I was just on TikTok. Being like, black girl, skincare, Korean. Tell me what, it worked. It worked. Getting all the recommendations. And then the people that work in there, really helpful as well. and yeah but you could just you could lose hours and hours and is it cheaper buying it there yes
26:04Charlotte Collins:okay yeah because medicaid can't get here can't you yeah yeah but i think honestly like one of the girls that was with the um hostesses from virgin she spent about 200 pounds but i'm not joking she must have had about like eight bags oh that's pretty good because you go into any beauty shop here you don't come out with that yeah yeah so olive young if uh there must be some way i know obviously you can buy korean beauty and like look fantastic yeah well plug for boots who have got a huge focus on k-beauty oh yes also sea beauty china beauty massive emerging market in the west obviously it's it's very established over there um but korean beauty there's a brand in particular called jenna bell which even alex didn't know that you could get in the uk she's like i've been bloody ordering it from korea yeah and i've been using they because topical pnd pdrn yes topical pdrn is which is the salmon sperm is a big trend in k-beauty so i've been using the genabelle there's like a serum and a moisturizer consistently and i love it yeah i've got a i bought a snail serum oh yeah um and it's an eye cream and it also vibrates that was one of my yeah the eye cream vibrates or like there's a tool that vibrates with it like it comes like in a little tube and the top bit vibrates when you're putting it on it must feel very nice morning on a puffy eye yeah oh lovely oh my god yeah all about the cable you see so excited um you've also got a you've got a this says carved wooden fish clutch in gummy green that sounds very nana yes i mean um we are getting into the season of fun novelty style bags for kind of holidays one of my favorite brands simon miller i think does it so so well and i have just seen yeah it's a green wooden fish shaped bag which i just think will be so perfect for holiday we've there's been a lot of fish bag chat in the office recently i've got very it's upstairs actually very good yeah i love that one gold one from vin store yeah um stunning put a photo up so vin store where my gold one is from also have a tomato like the loeve tomato oh that's Oh my gosh.
28:12Charlotte Collins:I like that. But I bought the stowed fish last year as well. Yeah. There's a stowed break for fun bags. Now is the season for fun bags. Do you know where actually it's quite good to find hidden gems like that for a full price? It's TK Maxx. Mm. They actually, and you can shop TK Maxx online. I feel like some people don't know that. Yeah. They have a lot of fun bags online at TK Maxx. I saw a fish one the other day. Also accessorize. Like, I think we forget about accessorize sometimes. But they've always got the odd snazzy bag. Yeah, they do. Bopping about. Especially when you go to the airport as well.
28:40I don't know if you're like in the terminal. I know, dangerous. I need that on my holiday. I know whatever shape, tassily gold is.
28:46Charlotte Collins:Literally, you revert back to your 13 year old self and you're like that pen, that jelly pen. I really need that, don't I? I've got to think about airports where I just step through the front door and I spend about 150 quid without even breathing. Well, they're not cheap. They're not cheap airports. But you don't have to, but somehow. But you know, like T5 has got an M &S now, like as you try to get to your gates. So like the snatch sensation is just too strong. then a few drinks then a fragrance I love an airport shop I miss duty free but I still do love an airport shop yeah it's the best still tempting regardless not getting a discount it's very hard to get your head around that you still think you're saving money yes you're not in an airport you're absolutely not okay Maya what is on your wish list Love Nude it's Shaper oh so good YSL's new Love Nude Lip Shaper so nice I've been using the lip liner and the lipstick I've got it on today I've got mine on today.
29:39Charlotte Collins:Oh, nice. Oh, FOMO. They're large. You'd like them. You'd like them. The nudie colours are very nice. Yeah, I really, I mean, I can't wear that. Yours is gorgeous, but that's probably more my colouring. As much as I'm paying to admit it, this is more my colouring. Ooh. Yeah, really, really good. And the line is really nice and glaring. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. It blends in so well with the lipstick. You're glossy and you're matte. I'm matte, yeah. Yeah, I've put a gloss on top of mine, but the lip liner is particularly... Agreed, yeah. So nice. This is also the time of year where I get very obsessed with the brand Dish, which you're wearing today.
30:13Charlotte Collins:Yeah, modeled by me. They've got this amazing brown polka dot and it kind of comes in black as well. It's like, cause quite a lot of their stuff is sheer, but it's sheer almost like beyond the knee and then a matching trouser. So nice. I've got the sheer, I don't know if you saw it, the brown skirt. Yes. An oversized shirt. Oh yeah, I love it. So good, I love everything on Dish. I just wish the sunshine would actually be warm so we can wear a lot of it. And red has become my new favorite color, Nana. You'll be pleased to hear. I know, I'm really inspired. Like, you had the red trousers on yesterday.
30:46I just bought a pair of red silk trousers from Zara, which was on my wish list. Oh, I've seen those ones. The cut drawstring at the top, yeah. So nice. I nearly bought them, but I already have a really similar pair. And I was like, stop. No way. Stop, but I was like, you actually don't need them. Yeah, so dirty. But yeah, they're really good as well. All of a sudden, everything I'm buying is red. I bought a red matching Zara shortened jumper set I wore the jumper yesterday just bought a red pair of jeans I liked that yesterday a red t-shirt I loved that
31:12Charlotte Collins:yeah that jumper I don't know there were definitely lots of pops of red floating around I loved Laura yesterday had like a very skinny I thought it was a tie she had a very thin red jumper tied around her like she was wearing a white shirt tied around her shoulders and then she had a leather jacket on top so you just got the little pop of red and then obviously we've seen Hodge repping that incredible red where was that from H &M Studio H &M Studio shell jacket yeah so cool I've got the Frankie shop red satin jacket I love that one so much love that but yeah I need to stop buying my trousers that is that's a real niche that isn't it raining the red trousers but yeah but enough um but yeah shout out to dish I've got some other pieces that I've bought from well not bought got gifted from them but haven't been able to wear yet because it's not warm enough so I'm ready I do feel like they're quite imitable like no one seems to be making dish style clothes I feel yeah I agree I agree no I think I think that with a lot of Australian brands like Server Label as well so great posse yeah I bought some stuff from them whilst I was there and it's just so different yeah but it works so well here as well it's just kind of like Frankie Shop but less sporty yeah like a bit more feminine yeah yeah the only thing I've been tempted by in the last week is do you remember in the last season of The White Lotus you know the fabulous French girl the supermod she was dating the scary the creepy guy from the last season and she wore that baby pink jackamuse.
32:35Charlotte Collins:Yes, oh my God. It's on Netoporter now. Isn't it? But does one do oneself like the biggest injustice in the world by trying to wear something that everybody has seen a supermodel wear? Do you know what it, like should I just let it be? No. If you love it, you buy it. They also have it in like a baby yellow. Yeah, gorgeous. I'm going to be literally going on after this. I'm going to fight you for it. It's really gorgeous. But also because it's from Net, not everyone will be wearing it. So there's a plus there. This is true. If it was a Zara version, every man and their dog would have it. And also it's like we've waited over a year and now it's here and I'm like, it's still so good.
33:06Charlotte Collins:If you still really want it, that's incredible. Yeah, it's really gorgeous. So good, okay, something to think about. Right, I've been told here, call to action. Quick reminder, no, quick reminder. Quick reminder. Quick Charlotte, do it. Quick reminder. If you're enjoying the episode, please do subscribe to the Sheer Likes podcast. It really helps us keep doing the content we love. I know it's a bit annoying to keep banging on about it, but it's must. It makes a difference, guys. It's true.
33:35Charlotte Collins:Okay, celebrity news. Nana, the devil is Prada too. I mean, this whole tour is slightly blown my mind. So I'm really confused for a start. So world premiere, it said, was in New York. Yes. A couple of days ago. But we've had a whole press tour of other premieres. And you're going to the premiere this evening. I don't think those were premieres. I think they were like appearances. Just moments. Yeah. They were in Tokyo. They were in Seoul. Yeah. I think they were just meet and greet things. Okay. So that misses when they were saying world premiere, I was like, but you've already had it. You've got this wrong guys.
34:08What are you talking about? You've already been to all these other places. But yeah, I have been loving the press tour basically between Meryl and Anne. They have obviously looked fantastic. However, Emily Blunt at the world premiere. Schiaparelli. Oh my gosh. I honestly, like I'm still dreaming about it. And I don't have enough superlatives to describe how phenomenal this dress was and how incredible. She has stolen the whole show for the rest of time. Yeah.
34:43Charlotte Collins:No one will ever compare. She looked incredible. She looked incredible. Yeah, so I just, obviously we knew the outfits were gonna be spectacular, but she really smashed that one out of the park. I've been loving Meryl Streep's because I think it's almost more interesting to see how you take a woman in their 70s and make them, when I say make them look relevant, you know, of course you can be relevant at that age, but there's a, you know, you're going to want to dress differently to a way that a 30-year-old might dress. And if you think about that dress that Emily Blunt wore, you know, there's a lot of skin on show.
35:15Charlotte Collins:It might not be how a 70-year-old or 76-year-old as she is wishes to dress. So I think they've done the most incredible job of kind of retaining her modesty. I mean, she looks absolutely amazing, but also keeping it like fashion. she has been completely on it like that last cavonci cape with the gloves the red yeah like maybe that's why everyone's obsessed with red because i think we're being subliminally sent quite a lot from this press tour yeah maybe it's like the pink barbie era but actually yeah yeah it's amazing seeing the cast back in action and god this press tour i was saying to you guys as we were coming downstairs it feels to me like it kind of makes barbie look small fry the amount the brands that are associated with this and my desk yesterday i received a runway magazine like the fictional runway yeah it's what's happening let's go go look for it um which is like it was really confusing it was so meta it was like miranda priestly had written the editor's letter and it was like it was very much an editor's letter it was like you know in the milan collections we saw like really stone face and they have advertisers in there who i guess are obviously the advertisers for the film but it feels like but then there's genuine content it's like a whole world they've built um but i can't help but be a bit sad when a lot of people have been comparing on the internet the photos of the original premiere for the film and the the press tour now and kind of just you know between emily blunt and hathaway god they all look incredible but they look so incredible and when you go back to 2008 when the first film came out and you see how sort of normal all these people who were still superstars back in the day looked it does make you think like oh my god the we thought beauty standards were high then yeah now it is the perfection is next level yeah completely and even just the outfits as well yeah from every level yeah from what they were wearing to what they wear now like it has just we're through the stratosphere literally they rocked up and i know obviously this is a bigger deal to have a second film but in the first one they rocked up you know against the wall like this they all stood there against the branded step and repeat and they have their pics and off they trot and this is like you know appearances in Tokyo and Seoul and I think the premiere was at the Met or I don't know it was somewhere yeah mega but yeah I'm a bit nervous for the film I'm very excited oh are you nervous I'm just nervous because like it means a lot yeah no it does it really does I can't believe it's been 20 yeah like do you also feel like you're in this industry because of noughties films that glorified this industry 100 % yeah no definitely although I think I was I was I in it I was in it 20 years ago I was kind of in the film yeah I was in the film I can't remember lots happened yeah alright she lives a life yeah I think I was I was there yeah no I'd start it yeah I think for me it was like I obviously didn't do PR, but things like Ab Fab.
38:11Oh my God. That's like my reference. He'd be like, that looks fun. Yeah, it was so fun. But from what I hear, Ab Fab wasn't that far of a... It wasn't a stretch. It wasn't a stretch. It wasn't a stretch at all. Smoking in the office. Yeah, not in those days.
38:27Charlotte Collins:Even when I interned at French Vogue in the early teens, so like 2012, 2013, and they all smoked in the office then. Like they would be like out the window. yeah
38:43Charlotte Collins:um okay let's move on and talk hot topic Maya tourist season yeah tell us more I know lots of people don't relate to horoscopes yeah Georgie doesn't but um oh tourist I thought you said tourist and I was like cool Taurus season is upon us Let's start travelling My favourite season I thought she was like The tourists are coming to London I'm going to show them round Have you ever done a red top tour around London? I've never done that actually No but I actually would I would like to Oh my god Let's do that as a team day And like take a couple of bottles of fizz 100 % I'm so down I like doing that in cities Yeah Okay let's do it Okay Next away day Done Done easy Anyway Taurus season is upon us Which this is the first official week of being a Taurus.
39:29Right. Like when your horoscope is a line type thing because Taurus is for me, of which I am. And I don't know if it's that or something else, but this week has felt like, I don't know about you guys, but I'm about to turn 34. I'm childless. I feel like it means I have to be perfect at absolutely everything now. I feel the pressure from every single angle. Really? Yeah, career, personal, at home. Because of the age you're hitting? I think, yeah, a little bit. Like you haven't got kids, so therefore you have to be really good at everything else. And this week in particular, it's actually supposed to be the week where you sort of shed that and you start to allow yourself to be a bit like, enjoy the quieter moments and you can sit on the sofa and do nothing and it's okay and like take time for yourself.
40:11But I've sort of been like this, I think up until now. I'm feeling it this week. It's stressing me out a lot. I don't think it's a stress, all of these, you should be doing this by this age. It's not that necessarily though. It's more just like, I shouldn't be doing these things by this age. It's just more like I feel like I'm -
40:30Charlotte Collins:You've got more time than others. So I should be really good at everything. But that still should. Yeah, that still is exactly - Although I am, FYI, really good at that. You are. You absolutely are. I'm not failing in any area, but - Just so you know. But it's hard work. It's a lot of pressure. I think that the moment that we start to interrogate should, like the should for the ghost of our brain, is the moment you start to just go a bit easier on yourself. like every time I think should do that and you obviously want to maintain a level of motivation and you know it would be easy to let yourself off the hook exactly you could let yourself off the hook through the time but the should I should be more productive because I don't have care why?
41:07Charlotte Collins:Yeah why should you? That is in my head a lot I think you have to reframe like I think I had to unlearn a lot of that and to be like oh like you said it's not an age thing but yeah with this time I should be doing I don't know be really kind of like productive yeah yeah slash also justify the fact that you don't have the kids do you know what i mean yeah the reason is x yes but another reason you shouldn't have to yeah yeah but i also think and i mean not to kind of but like we're all killing like we're all doing really well and that's maybe for the three of us that's we don't have kids yeah and so we are able to just plug all our energy into our careers and so it's like you're distraction free and i feel like most women our age who are like even if they have children they don't sit there sit back and think oh fantastic I've had my kids so I'm that's it I'm I'm doing well yeah you know I don't have to succeed in other area or whatever like I think that they just have the same pressure that we have but just times a million as well because they also have to be good in that area too yeah totally actually the other thing that I find kind of annoying sorry don't come from the internet is that I feel like you don't have the you're not given the excuse of being like I'm actually really busy and I'm juggling two jobs and I'm trying to keep my house together and love my partner and be a good friend and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
42:23Yeah, but were you up throughout the night four times in the night? No, I wasn't. I was actually trying to get eight hours sleep. I was going to do all of that. I have that being like single. I'm like, I am actually managing a house on my own, all of the bills, trying, if anything goes wrong, it is down to me and that is it. Like, I'm trying to get my garden in order currently and yeah, you're juggling a job. You're trying to just be. Which is all a lot in itself.
42:46Charlotte Collins:That is a lot in itself. And of course, if you've got kids and it's, of course that's an added layer of pressure. But I think, and listen, everyone's reasons for being childless are different. But when people do that to me, I'm like, yeah. And that's fucking why. Like, I feel like there's this sense of superiority that not, it's totally not all people with children, but this thing of like, well, you haven't, you know, yes, you weren't up at 4am. Yeah, I agree. I know, because one of my reasons for not having children is because I don't want that added pressure on top of that. Like, that is a really conscious decision for me.
43:15Charlotte Collins:You bring these people into your lives and you're inviting a whole possibility of things that can go wrong and things that can be new challenges and so I'm really actively opting out of that right now and the the sense from some parents that as people without children we don't understand that yeah I find that quite like triggering offensive yeah I get it a tiktok came up for me yesterday and it was one basically saying um don't like don't complain to me about your life or like this that and the other unless you are juggling two children try and get to them a small time haven't slept for three days properly haven't done this haven't done that and i thought don't diminish my life yeah exactly it's not any it's not any less than yours yeah um but i do always like i always have people say to me oh my gosh you get so much done in a day like how do you how do you do this how do you do that and i would actually be like yeah but i also don't have kids like i think yeah hodge that's true laura like how they get everything done in a day and still like that isn't it yeah how do you're managing like three other people's schedules as well as your own it's amazing like i say it's all the time yeah my brain is full and they are looking after each of them are looking after three additional people like it's crazy and also you're not just getting them from a to b you're having you're having to like keep them alive yeah and like emotionally learn to these people into decent people like honestly
44:40Charlotte Collins:it's not a dog way just where it's fed oh my god I think the whole point right is that so much easier said than done but nobody should be comparing anyone nobody knows what challenges are going on behind closed doors for anybody and how we were having this conversation in a different context yesterday about the amount of hours that people put into work that doesn't always get seen and you know you can't just look at someone's life on the surface this and my dad has a good piece of advice he says you have to go home with someone so you can't look at i don't know nameless celebrity and say oh they've got it all because they've you know they look good and they've got this you have to imagine them walking through the door and go back into that house and you have to you can't envy one part of someone's life you have to envy the whole you never know what goes on behind closed doors and that is true yeah yeah you are doing great yeah anyway back to you yeah i feel super successful and i feel like i've got it all and etc etc but yeah i just got triggered this week by that feeling and it just sent me a bit and i had to vent about it i think that again it's that it's inevitable and i think whether you have kids or whether you don't you're it's not about the grasping greener but you're always going to look at the other side and naturally unless you are 100 certain that you don't want children or you are 100 certain that you know family life is for you and you're not that fussed about your career yeah you're always going to be pulled in multiple directions and so there will be times there'll be weeks days months that it's more acute than others yeah exactly but i do always say comparison is a thief of joy oh no i couldn't agree more yeah stay in your lane yeah you do well exactly write it out you're doing all right so far yeah yeah it's so bad nana so before we move on give us your give us your quick we've talked about beauty but we've talked about beauty we'll stop yeah so so yeah I went for it was a really I was only there for four days so it was a really wow very quick yeah it was a very quick trip what's the flight time 13 hours on the way there 14 on the way back wow that is far so it is punchy however I just love flying so I think Laura Laura was like I just couldn't do it yeah no I'm with you I'm on a plane happy days yeah really happy days like on the way back i slept for seven hours yeah if you can sleep then that is a win yeah i can sleep anywhere so it's fine but actually in seoul beautiful city it was still kind of cherry blossom season so that was really beautiful people are just so friendly um really respectful a lot of people speak english so that was helpful although I was like one of the stores that I went into they've got a really great vintage scene so there was this store that I'd researched it's called Ella's Boutique and they have the most insane collection of vintage Chanel Louis Vuitton Kristen Dior like just everything and I walked in and one of the girls was stood there with a tripod doing an Instagram live and I just felt at home.
47:43If only I spoke Korean. You should have brought it in. Yeah. No, no, we'll share that. Yeah. Crossover. We didn't know we needed. If only I spoke Korean, I could jump into this right now. That's hilarious. Because this is my forte. Yeah, yeah. This is your place. I have a question on the vintage shopping because I see this and a lot of people going to places like Japan, they've got amazing vintage stores. How do you, I know it's the same in the UK, but, and it's something why I don't really go into shops and shop vintage like that. How do you know it's all legitimate? Are you just trusting the store?
48:10Yeah, I think so. A lot of them, I mean, I didn't buy anything, but I would presume that you would get the certificates and the cards. But is even that enough? Like, we can copy anything these days. True.
48:21Charlotte Collins:I think probably you've got to go somewhere that does the authentication. Yeah. So, like, I also haven't been to Asia for it, but when I think about some of the New York stores, like the RealReal, what goes around, I believe they authenticate it before it hits the shelves. Yeah. So I think that you've got to find it. Kind of like what SDA do as well before they, like, send something to you. So, yeah, I am being trusting. Yeah. but it's yeah, those type of stores that have kind of like have the really authentic goods. Not just like someone's car boot. Yeah. Don't buy a designer bag there. Also have heard that buying, and then this is very broad, but buying designer secondhand in Asia is very good because people look after their things so much better than Western people.
49:01So it's often in like mint condition. Everything, honestly, everything that I saw, like I can put the pictures up on here. Yeah, I wanna see. They looked brand new. and the exchange rate was really good although at first I was like I did it wrong I was like 36 ,000 I can't afford that so I sent it to my friend I was like they're really expensive and then I said to the guy I was like can we just check it it was 1200 that's better the other way around yeah you can get something yeah I think it is really nice like I would go back there and I love the story of getting a vintage bag like even yeah I see eBay They do their authenticity guarantee, Vestia, RealReal, whatever you're getting these second handbags.
49:42It's so nice. I get the same buzz buying a second handbag that I do from getting a brand new one. It's almost more satisfying because you've like, it's the thrill of the hunt. Yeah. And you feel slightly less guilty, I think. Yeah, definitely. It's a nice circular economy that's happening. Any restaurants? Restaurants, yeah, I'd have to, I don't know the names, but there was a really amazing, obviously you've got Korean barbecue everywhere. so itown is kind of where all of the bars and like fun restaurants that area is like really cool but there were like so many different pockets that i didn't even get to go to yeah exactly um they've got i'm not even gonna try to pronounce it but the palace okay i would recommend going there that you feel kind of you're immersing yourself in the culture yeah exactly yeah a bit more history.
50:32I forgot about that. After you've done the shopping. Yeah, after you've done all the vintage and stuff. Vintage shopping. Oh my God, I did a K-pop dance class. Dead? Oh my God. What was that? How was that? And why? You were on a trip. Yeah, it was just one of the excursion activities. What makes K-pop dancing
50:50Charlotte Collins:different to Western pop dancing? I would say K-pop dancing is what we kind of had in the 90s with like Christina Aguilera and NSYNC. And yeah, very choreographed. very very interesting okay yeah exactly all of that so um yeah the dancer that we had i think she was like a backing dancer for like bts sick oh my god i'm real that's a big deal yeah um we were all terrible um i think going on a press trip and having to dance
51:24shocking yeah but yeah i highly recommend going to soul so gel i was 17 with japan i was like if you can provide me too.
51:31Charlotte Collins:I know.
51:37Charlotte Collins:Okay, I don't like the dilemmas this week, so we're going to wrap it up. Is it ever acceptable to re-gift a candle? You're on your own. Yeah. Sorry. Good luck in the world. Would you not have you? If you don't know the answer to these questions, frankly, we can't help you. Chatgy P.T. is your best friend. Is it ever acceptable to re-gift a candle? Oh, come on. Not if it's burnt. Yes, if it's packed up. Yeah, and not to the same person that gave it to you, obviously, but yeah. Obviously, but someone once did that to me. Someone brought me a bottle of Ami-branded free people wine, which is obviously a gift, which I could have only given to them at some point.
52:08Charlotte Collins:Oh, wow. Anyway, so that's it. Thanks both. That's it. Thank you. This was nice. This was lovely. We're going to go and ask Nana to do her dance routine for us now. So it's actually important to you. Thank you so much for listening or for watching. If you have any feedback, then put it in the comments and subscribe. Please do subscribe. This week on the SheerLuxe Podcast, Charlotte Collins is joined by Nana Acheampong and Mia Luckie for a catch-up packed with fashion, culture and honest conversation. Nana shares all the highlights from her recent trip to Seoul - from the city’s incredible vintage scene and must-visit shopping spots to the Korean beauty products now topping her wishlist. The trio also dive into the biggest pop culture moment of the moment: The Devil Wears Prada 2 press tour, discussing standout fashion looks, celebrity style and why Emily Blunt’s latest red carpet appearance has everyone talking.
Elsewhere, they chat about the realities of life in your thirties and forties, touching on friendship, ambition, comparison and the pressures that can come with being child-free. Plus, there’s plenty of fashion and beauty inspiration, from summer wish lists and standout high-street finds to the products and trends they’re loving right now. As always, expect plenty of laughs, relatable stories and candid opinions throughout. Enjoy the episode - and don’t forget to subscribe so you never miss a new one!
