In short
January survival via style talk, cultural headlines, and listener dilemmas. They discuss cold-weather outfits (turtlenecks, roll-necks, loafers/boots), what to watch (gay hockey romance Heated Rivalry; Netflix murder drama His and Hers), and recent news (Liverpool vs Arsenal: Connor Bradley injured late; Martinelli incident; Bruno Mars returning with UK Wembley shows). They also debate James Bond casting rumors (Callum Turner; Theo James). Fashion segments include Zara x Soshio Tsuki tailoring collab, Olive Menswear pinstripe grey trousers, and Bottega Veneta gloves. Hot topics: Frankie became a dad (Casper born 14 Dec; King’s College Hospital, Denmark Hill; C-section; first day skin-to-skin and breastfeeding).
Guests
Harvey James (associate editor of SMA; host), Frankie (contributor; new dad; watches Heated Rivalry/His and Hers; draws designs; cheese subscription; fashion finds), Tundi (contributor; gym outdoors; watches shows; discusses WhatsApp group chats). Key claims/examples: partner phone-checking is okay if occasional but “active research” is a trust issue; stag do with strangers is fine if you’d enjoy it, not just to be polite.

1:33Frankie Foster:let's start with our outfits yes we've got matching yeah all black and black when we did the pod last time together we were white shirt and over shirt as well oh yeah we don't talk about it before we come on this is just how it happens i feel like i'm being left out now sorry well you're the host yeah you're the host you need to be the host distinct yeah yeah okay i quite like having a turtleneck because it means I can have sort of sloppy posture without getting a double
1:54Tunde Ogunsina:chin oh that's actually very smart just hang out like this whereas I've seen myself before on camera I'm like so yeah I've got a roll neck which I actually found because I've accumulated a lot of
2:07Frankie Foster:clothes I'm a bit of a hoarder I don't throw much out and a friend of mine was staying at mine on New Year's raiding my wardrobe or something to wear and he's like you've got stuff in here with
2:15Tunde Ogunsina:labels on like it's never even made it out the wardrobe so this was one of those things
2:20Frankie Foster:a Holland Cooper roll neck which has been in there for about five years but I quite like it it's got a nice thick neck to it so this is the first time you've worn it no no I wore Tuesday I loved it so I got it back on and Wednesday yeah some weekday jeans which they get a lot of wearing as well and some All Saints boots which are beautiful kind of
2:43Tunde Ogunsina:kind of matching with Tunday's sort of yeah we're all we're all black we're on a heist I actually wasn't going to wear this outfit today I was actually wearing something completely different. But then the shirt I wanted to wear was dirty. So I just changed the whole entire outfit. I'm actually loving this.
2:57Frankie Foster:It's good. Where are the trousers from?
2:59Tunde Ogunsina:The trousers are actually from ASOS. These are their, I guess, wide leg trousers. I have never really worn trousers like this in terms of like suit trousers sort of vibe. But I love them. I wear them all the time. And then my shoes are from Maison Margiela. Is that how you pronounce it?
3:16Frankie Foster:Maison Margiela.
3:17Tunde Ogunsina:These are the tabby loafers that everyone really called me for. this morning when I walked into the office. Show us the change of... Oh, so it's a mule or a shoe. Sorry, the socks are also really weird because you've got to do that with the socks. When do you wear either? When do you change? These are mules because I couldn't be bothered to put them on properly. Okay. And because those trousers are quite long, I can just take them. This is a terrible thing to say. Go on, tell me. Go on, go on. Say it.
3:46Frankie Foster:Say it. This is like a... It's a dad comment. This should be coming from you. but they are perfect to take the bins out what because they're all like slippers yeah because
3:55Tunde Ogunsina:you can just slip them on very expensive you always need something by the door that just
3:59Frankie Foster:slips on because you've got your hands full with the bins and you're like it's raining outside i need something to put my and you would wear these yeah because that one person that sees you taking
4:08Tunde Ogunsina:out the bins in them they'll be like got rich rubbish yeah yeah i like them by the way thank you that's just what came to mind unfortunately that's how you like them but rubbish came to your mind versatility fine i'll take that um and then my top is from cos and as frankie said earlier my muscles look really good he's looking white is why i do like to wear this top and i've noticed a little tattoo oh yeah i've never really spoken about my tats yeah little smiley face that's cute little cross nice 93 year birth god you're old 32 yeah have you got any tats nice but i'm not i've You do?
4:42Frankie Foster:It surprises me. Do you? Yeah, I've got two. Where? I've got a horrendous one on my foot. Do I regret it? Is it like Magaluf? Yeah, 2012. 2020? 2020, sorry. It is a date. Okay. I didn't think I would be doing this on my podcast, to be honest. It says 2015 on my foot. And it has the zero and the five crossed out because I was 21. Smart. Wow. Pretty smart. Nice. But I wanted to get a tattoo because I was like, fuck my parents. Yeah. And then didn't know what to get and just got that. But why a foot? So it's hidden. Because it was like, fuck my parents, but. Yeah. In a really pathetic way. And what's the other one?
5:22On my leg.
5:23Tunde Ogunsina:And what's that of? It says dust. Why dust? Because we're all going to turn to dust. It's like a momentum. A reminder. Yeah. Of what's to come. Right? No. Well, death, but.
5:34Frankie Foster:A reminder that nothing really matters because we're all going to turn to dust. Oh, okay, fine. And to clean the house. there's too much dust too much dust fine cool got you double meaning nice what are you wearing thank you um sam so sam so knit um i feel like i've worn this a lot recently i think it's like your statement piece now it is i was actually gonna say i used to be known like at school and stuff for having like a harvey jumper really because i would just wear a knit like all the time jumper and this is this is the one at the moment i've also got like the crew neck version as well So I can kind of wear the same jumper, but in different ways.
6:10Tunde Ogunsina:You do wear them together as well. Crazy. And this is a Rubinacci shirt I got from a place called Marked, which is like a secondhand place. But it's online and they kind of vet everything. And it's like really, really good quality for good prices. So I recommend checking that out. And then this is H &M jeans. These are Uniqlo socks, obviously. and Hush Puppy shoes. They're back. They're back. Very nice. According to me.
6:45Right, things we love. What is everyone loving at the moment?
6:48Frankie Foster:Good question. What have I been doing? Chilling out quite a lot. Had a slow start to the new year. Sounds great. Yeah, I've been doing, I've been walking, I've had a very like, what sounds boring, but it's been really nice. Lots of walking, working out outdoors in a park gym. Okay. which has been really wholesome it feels like growing out yeah growing out the guys and everyone sort of gives a like a little nod appreciation you don't say much but everyone's there to train you're like right yeah that's quite impressive um and i've been drawing yeah which was is the most random i started i was drawing my housemate once he was sat on the sofa and then i then this progressed and i went down a bit of i get obsessed with things for a very short amount of time i'll probably never draw again now for 10 years but i was quite pleased with my work i'll show you Have you ever drawn before this?
7:35Frankie Foster:This is just like, I'm going to draw now. I was good at art GCSE.
7:38Tunde Ogunsina:What did you get for it? An A. Or an A star maybe. Expect that.
7:43Frankie Foster:What do you think?
7:44Tunde Ogunsina:That's actually quite impressive. Quite cool, no? That's actually really good. I'm really impressed. No. Yeah. I didn't trace it over a lot or anything.
7:52Frankie Foster:No, they're drawings of Slim Aaron pictures. Them on ties would look really cool. So that's why I started drawing, was to try and draw designs for women's twillies and then get a drawing printed onto silk. Sick, yeah. But I went down a bit of a rabbit hole and just drew it up. Yeah, yeah, yeah, nice. Oh, Frankie, that's annoyingly good. Yeah, isn't it? I'll draw you both one for your flats. Oh, please do.
8:11Tunde Ogunsina:I've got a house coming up, so... Nice. And we need some artwork around.
8:13Frankie Foster:You'll be easy to draw a tunday with all your...
8:15Tunde Ogunsina:I don't usually draw me. Yeah, please don't draw me. I can't look at that. Anything else is fine.
8:21Frankie Foster:Anyway, yeah. So I've been drawing. All I've drew, I think I've finished. My career's over. No more. It was a Sunday afternoon. You've got a project now. True. more yeah one more love it and today i have been watching a couple different programs at the moment
8:37Tunde Ogunsina:on um on tv so the first is heated rivalry which is honestly um a series which i just think is just insane for the time that we're in right now so it is set up in the north of america it is between like two hockey teams it's like two athletes that are meant to hate each other but the tension isn't the rivalry it's like something they're trying to hide and it's all about I guess their relationship with each other and essentially you find out that they are heavily attracted to each other and they love each other and it just it's just been a real eye opener to just see like sport in one thing and then being gay in that sport as well and just bringing it to life and I think for me it's just so nice to see that it has people are resonating with it a lot and i think it allows people i guess to want to come out if they want to come out or just shows that it's fine to do that as well a bit of aggression and sporting rivalry mixed with romance honestly that's great i was gonna say ice hockey is like one of the most aggressive sports very aggressive i don't know if you've seen one live uh i've seen it through the
9:45Frankie Foster:tv program yeah that's pretty much my whenever someone asks me what do you like to watch i always say like either aggression maybe the wrong word but like violence or gangs or crime right mixed in mixed in with romance okay so it fits the bill it does tick tick tick i can't tell if you're taking the piss now no is that honestly that's your mix yeah well there's loads of films like
10:07Tunde Ogunsina:that i think all of them are pretty much like yeah like it's yeah maybe there will be some
10:13Frankie Foster:sort of romance mixed into i don't know like take like the what's the films about the crater for example legend yeah yeah yeah there will always be a girl and like a love story intertwined into something that's a bit criminal yeah or aggressive or violent ice hockey being both of those things because they need to humanize the violence that's just right so they put in a love story no no no it's not no no no Tunde will tell you from watching that there's a bit of romance in the violence
Read the full transcript
10:41Tunde Ogunsina:yeah because you need to be emotional yeah you need the up and down
10:44Frankie Foster:so it's like extremes yeah violence and love will be close together. It really is. It's like an arc and they're both at the top. They're close. Love and hate. Yeah. Are they the same thing? I think so. Yeah. You have to watch it and find out.
10:57Tunde Ogunsina:Yeah, watch it and find out. But there is another show that I've also been watching called His and Hers. Right. I finished that in one day. It's got six episodes. There is a policeman and a journalist and you follow their relationship and it's all set in like this small town and there is a murder in there and it just goes through all the different emotions and feelings and you just find out like what happened to the murders, who the murderer is. And it's just the way everything's so intertwined and connected. It's just crazy. The way that it's written. So everyone should definitely watch it. Okay.
11:27Tunde Ogunsina:Nice. So good. On Netflix. On Netflix. Yeah. Right. It's number one right now. So please watch it before. You've been January. Haven't you? I literally have. Yeah. You've been chilling. Yeah. I have been Netflixing. Netflixing. Honestly.
11:37Frankie Foster:So to be fair. So you've been January hard. Yeah. But just at the tail end of December, you snuck in some debauchery. I had a great time at the darts. Yeah, it hasn't all been walking and drawing and Netflixing. Trying to paint this picture of myself. In reality, I went and drank 10 pints of the darts. It was great fun. I've never been. And it's like, you can't, everyone that knows the darts in the alley pad knows this anyway, but you don't take yourself too seriously. Everyone gets dressed up. You go for a good time and you just like get stuck into what the darts is. You don't do the darts in your own way.
12:08Frankie Foster:You do the darts however you want to say. And it was great.
12:10Tunde Ogunsina:What did you wear?
12:12Frankie Foster:I wish you didn't ask me.
12:13Tunde Ogunsina:I have to because I see some outfits and they're crazy.
12:15Frankie Foster:I didn't have one. It was a bit last minute. So you didn't wear anything? No. Well, I did wear something. It was normal clothes. It wasn't my outfit.
12:21Tunde Ogunsina:Yeah. I know. Some of the outfits are crazy.
12:24Frankie Foster:Well, I was sat on the boring tables. You know, they chant at the boring tables. Oh, really? That is so embarrassing. The VIP tables you sit down on rather than sort of being standing slash the main seats and you have waiters and stuff. So intermittently, everyone's just like, boring, boring tables. Boring, boring tables. But yeah, you give a bit back. It was fun. Were the dartsmen getting involved as well? Not with the boring tables. Like as in on stage, were they performing? Oh, the walk-ons are so good. They're so much fun. And the benefit of sitting on those tables is you're next to the walk-ons.
12:55Frankie Foster:You can go and stand on the rail of their walk-on. Yeah, they're great.
12:59Tunde Ogunsina:So is it like a world championships? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
13:02Frankie Foster:It was world champs. Oh, nice. World darts championships.
13:05Tunde Ogunsina:So that guy that's been winning everything, was he there? How did he do?
13:07Frankie Foster:Luke Littler ended up winning it again for the second year in a row. I think he signed the biggest ever sponsorship deal in darts by a long, long way. Multi-millions. Wow. You win hundreds of thousands, if not millions, for winning it as well. Yeah. Yeah, it's insane. And he's like, what, young 20s? So young, yeah. Loves to like game, watch Man United and play darts. Amazing. He's just like killing it, isn't he? He's the ultimate teenager. Yeah, literally.
13:30Tunde Ogunsina:He's literally living every like 18-year-old lad's dream.
13:34Frankie Foster:Well, I don't know. I didn't play darts at 18, but.
13:37Tunde Ogunsina:Yeah. Quickly, I'll touch on my, it's quite a gen. thing to get into but also quite indulgent um i asked for a cheese subscription for christmas from my mom all right dad yeah so this comes monthly weekly uh it's monthly okay um but it's from this like amazing cheesemonger on german street okay nice paxton and whitfield um they've been going for centuries you know i love cheese i don't know about you guys yeah but every single cheese that I got in this box was like I've never tasted anything like that that's incredible it was like blues there was a goat's cheese there was um an amazing cheddar what are you having your cheeses with crackers and if it's like if it's really good I'll just have it by itself nice so do you finish all of that cheese within that month yeah this is the issue at the moment because I've got a fridge full of cheese and it's just me yeah fine so it's not good for my health
14:36Frankie Foster:I think my problem with that would be I'm quite indulgent keep going if there's something in front of me that I like I've got chocolate in the house I'll just have to eat it
14:46Tunde Ogunsina:so are these like, not life size, but like are they big pieces, small pieces is this a big box? it's probably like 300 or 400 grams per block and you get like 4 or 5 in a subscription no chance I would be so fat So you get, you saw me like falling asleep at random points. So you get like three or four blocks of cheese every month. Yeah. Yeah. It's quite a lot of cheese. Yeah, a lot of cheese. Maybe change it to every two months you get this box. I just have to invite around some cheese lovers. Oh yeah. So have a little night. Party. Kind of cool though. If anyone comes to your house. But we have so much chocolate at the moment.
15:21I keep giving them the chocolate. Let's get rid of that first.
15:24Frankie Foster:Oh no. I just mean, you know, it's like, it's good small chocolate. Oh, look at my cheese for the month. Yeah. Oh, they'll be impressed. I think, I think,
15:31Tunde Ogunsina:I think it is good, Sean. I actually would.
15:33Frankie Foster:Great cheese. They'd be so strange. I've got this cheese subscription. This is one of my favorites. I'd be impressed. You just need an affiliate link now. That's true. Yeah. RV 25.
15:47Let's do celeb sports and cultural moments. Now for the headlines. What's going on in the world? I'm going to start this because I'm a Liverpool fan. Yeah. It was Liverpool Arsenal, I want to say last week, last Thursday. and there was it was a tight game Liverpool were kind of the underdogs obviously not performing great at the moment Arsenal league leaders by quite a bit yeah performing well Liverpool played really well and kind of stuck out but in the last 10 minutes in stoppage time Arsenal were really pushing for that goal and they desperately wanted it to get those three points to push them clear But in that time, Connor Bradley went down with an injury.
16:28Yeah. And he was like sort of halfway off the pitch, but they couldn't resume play because he was still on the pitch. Martin only wanted to get the game moving, so he basically tried to like shove him off the pitch. But this player was down injured.
16:41Tunde Ogunsina:Shove, you mean like physically push? Like literally tried to push him off. Right. And obviously the Liverpool players reacted. Yeah, of course. It was like quite disgusting to see someone who's like genuinely in pain. He shoved off the pitch. And then afterwards, it transpired that Connor Bradley, he's out for the rest of the season. Really? Yeah.
17:00Frankie Foster:So it wasn't a fake injury? No. Wow, yeah. But that's the thing, because everyone's going down with fake injuries at that point, especially in the game, because it's like late on. That Martin Alty immediately was cynical and was like, get up, mate. I didn't watch the game live. I watched clips back and I couldn't find long enough to find what my housemate was talking about. but he reckoned that Connor Bradley he's obviously injured because he's out for the season but reckons that he sort of went down and then shuffled himself onto the pitch prior to this happening so that play would have to stop so that's like I suppose it's sort of I don't know because if you're that injured you're concerned like I guess you're looking at that line on the ground going like you want to like shuffle over I don't know who actually won if you're a competitor 0-0 it was just one of those moments where you go oh that's bad yeah he at the moment though you're that competitive you're like get off the pitch we're trying to score a goal yeah 100 % it was for Martinelli I can't say his name Martinelli it looks bad for him but I feel like a lot of other players could have done the same yeah
18:05Tunde Ogunsina:to sort of understand it yeah I brought my really Liverpool edged no I think
18:11Frankie Foster:you're just nicer than me yeah well I don't know I'm thinking from like I played sport growing up and like I'd be a dirty player to win
18:20Tunde Ogunsina:I sort of see that I was what sport
18:24Frankie Foster:played a lot of football but then played rugby yeah you can be quite dirty in rugby and get away with it oh yeah there's a lot of limbs anything to get an edge like anything you could do to get an edge or hurt someone which is kind of bad but I remember being like you're evil
18:38Tunde Ogunsina:but it's in the yeah yeah I get it I get it
18:41Frankie Foster:like if you if you can get in someone's head enough that they then have a terrible game and that gives you an edge or yeah if you can and slow someone down for half a second, then you've got an edge on winning. Yeah, you're not trying to maliciously hurt someone. You're not trying to end their season. You're just trying to like - Put them off.
18:57Tunde Ogunsina:Put them off a bit.
18:58Frankie Foster:So I get it in the like, it's not ideal, but he was probably just like, get the fuck off the pitch. Right, music. Yes.
19:07Tunde Ogunsina:Brunner Mars. He is back. Where's he been? I don't know, it's been nearly 10 years. I think he releases an album at the end of next month and he's also touring in the UK. He's doing five Wembleys, I want to say. Five Wembleys. He's got some bangers as well. He does. Uptown Funk, 24-character magic.
19:25Frankie Foster:Uptown Funk.
19:25Tunde Ogunsina:Lazy Song. He has got some good music. So it's good to see that he's back on the scene, making new music and just performing live again. So I think the last one he performed live was at the Halftime Show. The Super Bowl Halftime Show. So, yeah.
19:40Frankie Foster:What era was that? What age was that when Uptown Funk was coming? I think I was like 17, 18, yeah. Just before uni, yeah. Yeah, what's that like? 12 years ago? 13 years ago? Oh my God, yeah.
19:51Tunde Ogunsina:10. 12 years ago? 20? More if it's... So, 18, 19, 12, 14 years ago? Tunes. Maths isn't our struggle. No, 18, 32, 10, 2, 2, 14. I'd say 10 years ago, yeah, yeah. Yeah, tunes.
20:07Frankie Foster:Are you going to go? Yes, I'm going to try to go, yeah.
20:10Tunde Ogunsina:I have a friend that has a box at Wembley, so I'm going to try and go with them.
20:13Frankie Foster:Got friends everywhere. this guy yeah and frankie what's been on your mind recently james bond can you tell you look like one today so i'm going for james bond 2026 um no i've been quite enjoying the the rumors particularly the callum turner speculation and what could be a callum turner jua lipo not that she's going to be the bond girl but they do make quite a good bond couple she'd be insane yeah imagine i know i don't they wouldn't do that would they they're not going to have a well i don't know it's just slightly too gimmicky yeah same it kind of a lot of people would be really upset with that yeah i would have callum turner or theo james yes after his work in the gentleman but i've said that to people before and they said he's not big enough i think that's wrong i think he's well known and established enough i've not seen what callum turner has been
21:05Tunde Ogunsina:him before though i didn't even know he was an actor until no he's like he's right i had no idea
21:10Frankie Foster:i describe him as um this is sounds really offensive i'm sure he's a brilliant actor yeah like an instagram actor where you see them on instagram as actors but you never see their films yeah okay no he he just see loads of it yeah it's like calum turner stylish good looking man yeah in public but i'm sure he's a great actor yeah and he does look like a bond so from from instagrams of yeah i feel like he could he has the right look for a bond you need to be like obviously British
21:39Tunde Ogunsina:yeah definitely
21:40Frankie Foster:it's like a mix between being like classy well spoken but also a bit rugged
21:44Tunde Ogunsina:yeah dark I think it's the look you have to like look like the way you're eye contact I've got a good take go on it's gonna be shit hold on I've got it you have to like allude to a sense sense of depth in your character but never actually really show it quite surface level that is a good one quite cool
22:04Frankie Foster:yeah maybe Bonds are all just lies they're actually like fuck boys
22:11Tunde Ogunsina:but you know the only thing about it I think it has the Harry Potter effect like once you're Bond you're always and forever going to be Bond we can be in any other film and you'll always see that's James Bond do you know what I mean he's benoit blanc to me who was the guy that was in the Formula 1 film I think wasn't he in the running at one point Damson Idris yeah Damson Idris yeah I heard that as a revert at one point he'd make a great day he would have been quite cool actually what else was he I like that I can tell you. I've got no idea what else he's in.
22:41Should we do our fashion finds? Yes. Fashion segment. What have you had your eye on recently?
22:48Tunde Ogunsina:I have had my eye on these pair of gloves from Bottega. Lever gloves, right? But they are£600. But they are just beautiful. I don't know if they just tie in any outfit. Yeah,£600 is a lot of money, isn't it, for pro gloves? but you know me I always try to find a cheeky discount but they are so nice these gloves yeah I just honestly they're beautiful why they because obviously you know the Bottega classic the um what would you call it hatched would you say hatched leather like the way it goes like that I don't know what that's called
23:21Frankie Foster:um
23:22Tunde Ogunsina:it's just the design I don't know and no I've got really big hands and a lot of gloves didn't ever fit me and I tried them on and they are the perfect size nice That sucks for you. You found the perfect gloves. 600 pounds.
23:35Frankie Foster:I feel like you could go to like a leather tanner or maker or get some custom made leather gloves. True, I could. Half the price.
23:43Tunde Ogunsina:But that's a lot of effort, right? When I could just put my card in the machine and walk out. I mean, I'm not going to pay 600 pounds for them.
23:49Frankie Foster:Says the man who raided the Zara sale, to be fair. So you are, you're both. You're like 600 pound gloves. And I've also spent 600 pounds on 20 items. High low in a person. High low, yeah. talking of which the zara soshio tsuki collaboration yes yeah it's an interesting one because he's been tipped as like the successor to um armani in terms of like his tailoring um and i feel like zara are being like smart with their collaboration they're getting in these like people with a lot of credibility and a lot of cultural kind of respect behind them but also They're like very stylish people and amazing designers in their own right.
24:29And bringing it to the high street, which is just very smart. And the pieces they're putting out are amazing. So there's like a, I think it's a brown suit. Just kind of like really kind of drapey, amazing Armani-esque. Yeah. Which you wouldn't necessarily see on Zara. So that's one of my picks.
24:50Tunde Ogunsina:It's interesting, isn't it? There's something special or unique about Zara because whilst they are always, Well, they are high street, but I feel like there's something in that where it's like, it is a bit more elevated than just being high street. It's good stuff, isn't it?
25:02Frankie Foster:Yeah, very good stuff.
25:05Tunde Ogunsina:And I think everyone should have a bit of sign on their wardrobe. And their sale was the best. Best sale ever. As you found out the other day. Literally,£1 ,000 down. Thank you.
25:18There's also a brand called Olive Menswear. and I basically found some trousers, these grey trousers in a thrift store in Berlin like three years ago. They're the perfect trousers. And I've not found like anyone do that since. And this brand, Olive Menswear, I've done it and I need to buy them. I actually need to buy them. A simple pinstripe grey trouser. I found that you can wear it with so much.
25:44Tunde Ogunsina:Grey's a good colour. Yeah. And just having that silhouette as well. So I'm going to go and buy them. How much are they? They're actually only like 90 quid. Oh, very good. So can you buy them in England? Yeah, it's a British brand. Oh, fine.
25:57Frankie Foster:Yeah, Frankie, what about you? Some Loke leather. Loafers, boots, Chelsea boots. Emsworth black calf leather. They're the ones. You got it. Yeah, I don't know why I don't have a pair of black Chelsea boots in my wardrobe. I've been trying to find out which I want to buy. Like, I want them good quality. they can be quite expensive and these are like a little bit punchy I think they're about 300 quid but they're an old English shoemaker that I've known for of course making good shoes and good boots so nice I feel like it'll slot into your wardrobe I think so it's missing that's what's missing from my wardrobe I'm being drawn to the thing on your wrist oh yeah go on thanks for reminding me yeah
26:40Tunde Ogunsina:I think the burgundy red is so nice
26:44Frankie Foster:fun yeah I love I saw it earlier and it was absolutely amazing there's a story which might only be interesting to me, but obviously go racing in Hong Kong.
26:52Tunde Ogunsina:Shoot your shot.
26:55Frankie Foster:And the Hong Kong international races are four races that have been going on for years, which attract, they're like group one. So let's just call them, you know, like the FA Cup of horse racing in Hong Kong. They attract horses from all over the world. And that fixture has been Hong Kong's pinnacle horse racing fixture for years and their sort of showcase fixture, which I was working at. And that's why I was in Hong Kong. and I was in one of the night markets in Hong Kong, found this. And on the dial, it has little mini horses which go around each second. On the outside where the numbers would be, it has race distances.
27:32Frankie Foster:So like 2 ,400 meters, 1 ,000 meters, et cetera. And then it's actually what the Hong Kong Jockey Club made. I can't find out whether it's for guests or VIPs or whether you could buy them at the time, but it's for the Hong Kong International Races in 1994. so this was a watch for the event I was working at now but from then and I found it in a night market for 20 British pounds
27:56Tunde Ogunsina:and it's beautiful
27:57Frankie Foster:that's unreal
27:59Tunde Ogunsina:it's you in a watch it literally is you in a watch I'm so so pleased with that
28:09right hot topics I've got quite a big one I became a dad over Christmas. 14th of December, little Casper was born.
28:20Tunde Ogunsina:Wait, 14th of December? Yeah. That's my birthday. No way. Yeah, really. Nice. You're the honorary SL man. Godfather. Yes, I say yes. What would you say about having a birthday at that time? I feel like it's quite a good run up to Christmas. Yeah, 14th is a good day because it's 11 days before Christmas and I feel like it's enough time to still have two presents. Yeah. 100%.
28:43Frankie Foster:Baby Casper's going to let two presents. he's getting old how does it feel i mean it's just wild like i think the first week you're dealing with sleep deprivation yeah so like everything's heightened so like there's just the experience of meeting him and spending time with him is so full of love and so like intense but then there's other times where you're like terrified and don't really know what's going on and you're kind of i definitely felt in the first week that i was like doubting what i was doing and i was like oh god i'm not good enough or you know thinking that you're doing things wrong i think it's only natural like you actually don't really know what you're doing but honestly everyone at the hospital it's great like yeah the midwives the doctors i cannot thank them enough they were incredible like genuinely amazing people and would come around and like check in like there was a midwife on a different floor who came down to be like to come and meet casper and say hello bearing in mind we'd met like 20 midwives yeah um so the whole yeah they were amazing that was at king's college hospital in denmark hill um what time was he born 9 22 in the morning oh i was in
29:56Tunde Ogunsina:the evening so he's older than me okay well he's not really what's that what's that that first day
30:06Frankie Foster:like what what do you what actually happens yeah first day because can you go home do you stay in hospital like you got to stay overnight okay fine um so weirdly that morning was like really quite quiet and the hospital was a sunday and it was sunny it just felt like weirdly blissful and beautiful but so he comes out uh screaming into the world yeah so you there you saw all of this Yeah, my girlfriend had a C-section. Fiance. Yeah, fiance. I like to go by girlfriend. Really? Yeah. Because then people ask about the wedding, which is just annoying. Fair, yeah. So yeah, and then they kind of give the baby to my girlfriend for like skin to skin.
30:49So that happens and they take you through to a ward. The midwife then shows you how to breastfeed. And then you just get kind of skin to skin contact and you get time with the baby. Yeah. And I had such an amazing moment with Casper on my chest. Like literally he was an hour old. And just looking out like over London. And it was just like this beautiful like sunny morning. That really stands out as like a really nice moment. And then I went for a coffee by myself later on. Because he was, I think he was getting checked or something. Anyway. And I was just like that first coffee when you're into the world and like, I'm a dad.
31:27Tunde Ogunsina:Yeah. it's so weird great feeling yeah and then obviously after that just kind of getting to know him and cuddling him all the time it's like every time I go home from work just having this like big shot of love yeah and don't get me wrong he like cries he poos and wheezes and throws up everywhere yeah yeah but it's kind of cute
31:49Frankie Foster:in a way as well so cool amazing it's funny isn't it you never think like obviously but until you would get to the point where you were thinking about having kids like it never crosses my mind
31:59Tunde Ogunsina:I don't think about the reality no it's just interesting
32:05Frankie Foster:hearing you talk about your experience of like that first day for example because it's something that like I you just don't contemplate it yeah was there anything that you did preparing for him being born that either was like worthwhile doing or just you can't prepare this is a really stupid one are not really related to like bringing up a child or anything but bring a pen to the hospital why because you need to write down like like mark out like his bottles because they all go into like a big fridge together you gotta find your bottle and trying to find a pen trying to find a pen at like 4 a.m in the hospital when all the midwives are like busy yeah i don't know why that was so stressful yeah there's no one like they're all busy and like you don't really know what you're doing so like asking someone for a little minor inconvenience is really annoying um but yeah just kind of prep for that hospital visit make sure you kind of have everything um i'll start preparing now for yeah um and then my other hot topic is that we interviewed joe marler very fun rsl man he's just like he's a funny guy is he as you would expect yeah he's like Like, slightly, he's so idiosyncratic and slightly odd and has this, like, really piercing stare.
33:27But it's so warm and lovely. It's, like, a really odd mix. And obviously he's huge. Yeah. So he's got, like, it's a really disconcerting, but really fun, like, mix in a person. So I really enjoyed chatting to him and looking forward to that coming out. Right. And you guys?
33:43Frankie Foster:What's going on? It's a great question. you are about to turn
33:51Tunde Ogunsina:how could I forget 30 old man
33:54Frankie Foster:I know terrible yeah how do you feel about it I mean I'm joking around it I actually kind of feel fine I actually regret the way that I ask that question it's not a big deal well I wish it was more of a big deal in my own head I think so it needs to be more important I'm just going to wake up and it's any other day but that is how I generally am about my birthday not a big birthday person insane In a perfect world, you wake up. How do you feel differently? Like, what have you acquired that night? What have you got? What's the question? Please, Frankie, be careful of your answer. Yeah. What have you acquired, sir?
34:32Tunde Ogunsina:Tell us. The perfect way to wake up on my 30th. Go on. Mentally.
34:39Frankie Foster:It's a good question. What do I want to be at 30? The well-balanced. I feel like I'm getting there. Yeah. I feel like I've arrived at 30 in good time. and when it's like lots of your friends are already 30 feel like you you're in your 30s with your friends I don't feel like it's a big a big thing really the thing that stresses me out the most is having a party
34:58Tunde Ogunsina:that makes
34:59Frankie Foster:it cringes me out
35:00Tunde Ogunsina:yeah
35:00Frankie Foster:someone else's birthday party I'm all in before it yeah my own are just what are you gonna do you're gonna you're having a cake hopefully not hopefully none of that yeah hopefully no cakes no songs just like everyone just solemnly shakes your head yeah just like a little like like the guys at the park gym i've been going to yeah so they're all invited yeah that's where it is oh really my gym right okay so yeah i don't know i'm quite excited for my 30s i do feel like i'm slowly getting there my life has been pretty chaotic for quite a long time and i'm going to be a little bit a bit yeah um calmer i i like to fill my time I think because I have quite a busy mind fill it with work and things to do places to go people to see whereas I think I need to be a bit better at just not doing something all the time which feels a bit more 30 right?
35:57Frankie Foster:100 % any practical things you're doing to like make sure that you're a bit Mike I've been been way more organised with my calendar that's pretty boring as far as turning 30 goes but my work calendar for the year and my travel schedule I've been a bit more mindful of whereas before I would just be like any day anywhere I'll be there. Yes, yes, yes. Whereas this year, I have gaps for myself.
36:19Tunde Ogunsina:I think 30 is also, nothing actually drastically changes, but I do definitely think, like you start thinking, okay, I'm 30 now. Life is real. There is a little bit of that.
36:28Frankie Foster:I suppose it gives you a bit of urgency to be, the things that you want or feel like you should be achieving by 30 probably come front of mind. Yeah. I feel like people are always trying to tell you to grow up. Like even when you're like eight years old. Yeah, I think it's. They're trying to be like,
36:43Tunde Ogunsina:you need to be more organized i guess you don't listen to your 30 though okay like i feel like
36:52Frankie Foster:i feel like a hangover is going to be worse at 30 not for the the physical ailments but for the mental like i'm fucking 30 i need to stop doing this oh like in a movie you've got a big stubble you wake up i need to stop doing this i can't keep doing this um tunday i love i love your
37:11Tunde Ogunsina:Yes. So my topic is WhatsApp group chat. So just communicating on WhatsApp, voice notes, all that stuff. I just feel like WhatsApp group chats are not necessarily the bane of life, but they can just be so annoying sometimes. I just feel like you talk too much. It's a crime. You talk not at all. It's a crime. Everyone's always judging you. I just want to be in a group chat and just observe. I'm going to throw this out there. I reckon you're in a hell of a lot of group chats. I mean, so many group chats. The thing is, I actually, I love making a group chat, but then I don't like participating. You're such an enigma.
37:47Tunde Ogunsina:Yeah, I know. Like, for instance, I'm meeting someone for an interview and I'm getting set up with somebody else. Someone's setting us up. I was like, just make a group chat. It's easy. With the three of you? Yeah, the three of us. That's fascinating. It's just easy, but then I don't want to, all I want to do is read. You're creating your own problems. I know, I know.
38:03Frankie Foster:Hang on, so you've got a new group chat for someone you don't know and the person that's setting the pair of you up.
38:08Tunde Ogunsina:Yes. That's insane. Yeah. But then I want them to organize the meeting. Are you two talking?
38:13Frankie Foster:It's like someone's watching you meet for the first time.
38:15Tunde Ogunsina:No, no, no, no. That person won't be there, obviously.
38:17Frankie Foster:No, but they're in the chat.
38:18Tunde Ogunsina:Yeah, but because they're setting it up. You know what I mean? Like they're the ones doing the connecting.
38:22Frankie Foster:So what, they'd like sending like a, hey, Tunde, this is... Yeah, I do it all the time. All the time. And then I just like to...
38:27Tunde Ogunsina:Do you leave? Sometimes I do. Sometimes I stay. Yeah, exactly. Just to observe, to make sure it's all going. Yeah, I think you need a more balanced approach to your groups. I know. I know. It's like poll for this, poll for that. If you ever do that to me,
38:41Frankie Foster:I'm not going to speak in that group chat.
38:43Tunde Ogunsina:But I would, unless if I was setting you up on a date with someone. Yeah, then I would do a group chat. I would get their number
38:46Frankie Foster:from the group chat and be like, let's message here. Oh yeah, fine.
38:48Tunde Ogunsina:Yeah, that's fine. That works. It's just like an email intro. I think it's you making the polls. No, I don't make no polls. No, I make no polls. I went on a stag do and these boys did a poll for every decision, Every single decision. What time should you wake up? It's democracy. It's brilliant.
39:07Frankie Foster:No, no, no.
39:07Tunde Ogunsina:I hate them. Don't mind a poll. I don't mind a group chat. I can't really relate. I love a group chat. A group chat is nice. It's just constant, just judgment. I feel like that might be a you problem today. Yeah, I agree. But talking of people's problems. Yes.
39:21Frankie Foster:Let's move on to listeners' dilemmas.
39:30first one is i think this one's this one's fun my girlfriend likes to go through my phone i've got nothing to hide but it still makes me feel a bit weird should i make a stand or just
39:41Tunde Ogunsina:let it go there's two parts to that answer okay because you can be either i think either is fine
39:46Frankie Foster:uh i would just like obviously someone should be able to go through your phone in if you're in a relationship if you feel uncomfortable with someone going through your phone either you've got something to hide or sometimes people would say like oh no it's not they have anything to hide but maybe like the lads group chat you might find a bit offensive i still think if your partner knows you well enough they'd be fine with whatever they saw yeah so that's part one part two is if they're doing it all the time then you're a bit like why do you need to like do you feel like you don't trust me yeah so there's a bit of a balance right yeah i think that's then the problem if
40:17Tunde Ogunsina:they're going through it all the time then there's no trust they're in school about something yeah do they genuinely love you for you like why are they actually i don't think they should just they i
40:25Frankie Foster:don't think they should go through your phone they can be on your phone yeah but actually what are you thinking about it yeah like you shouldn't be there's no trouble at all the manner in which you're doing yeah yeah my phone was on the side and you picked it up or you used it for you know like you were like wanted to google something or whatever or you answered the phone fine but if you've like actually gone whatsapps and like searching every conversation yeah that is odd that would get my back and probably be a bit like do you not feel like what are you looking for yeah it's just weird isn't it slightly disconcerting i'll just ask are you cheating on me in the group chat yeah
41:08Frankie Foster:exactly sorry so what yeah do you do do we agree on that
41:12Tunde Ogunsina:it's a bit weird well which one do we go for well it's do you take a stand or do you let it go i think you were right with like the wording yeah to be on your partner's phone is fine yeah or for your partner to be on your phone yeah but if it's like an active research mission like every morning at 9 a.m in the shower yeah no so there's your answer that was actually a lot more simple than i thought um this one is about stag do's so i've been invited on a stag do with people i barely know do i go to be polite or is it weird to spend a weekend with strangers i mean it's being polite to who the people that are on the trip or to the groom because you know the groom right and they're your close friend and i think that um you're not going for everyone else you're going to make sure the groom is happy because he loves you so i think you just it's not going to be polite it's just going because you're going for the groom do you know what i mean i think it's the same thing going to be polite to the groom okay i think that's what they're okay fine yeah i would go I would go.
42:09Frankie Foster:He hasn't actually said that he knows the groom. Why would you be on the stag do if you don't know the groom? That'd be a fun guy. No way.
42:19Tunde Ogunsina:You are not going on a stag do if you don't know the groom? Might be invited by proxy. No. Have you been to a stag do you don't know the groom?
42:29Frankie Foster:Have you? No. Fair. Has anyone? Has anyone? No way. Friend of a friend? Anyway, yeah, fair enough. I hear this guy is really fun I want him on my stag do I've got a friend called Sam and we joke we call him stag do Sam he's on everyone's stag do because he knows the group well just getting to a point where you feel like people are just inviting him because that's what he does that's me at weddings to be fair
42:53Tunde Ogunsina:that's you for like everything yeah literally okay when I have my wedding and I have a stag do Sam's coming yeah I never want to meet him before that's what he does that's what he does
43:03Frankie Foster:it's a good time you had an answer for it what's your advice advice well i think it's like the type of person you are the idea of spending like a weekend with strangers getting pissed could be like some people's hell or heaven yeah bonding yeah and you can just kind of not be someone else but like be a slightly different person to the person you are at work yeah true it's like a good uh chance to like yeah try another hat but also you might feel like we're talking about this before i mean you might feel like they're your best friends and the best time still a pretty surface level yeah experience so i don't know if you're feeling like shit in yourself and you feel like that would be a difficult thing to go to yeah of course don't go my answer is kind of similar go if you think you'd enjoy it and it depends like where it is what you're doing like just judge it on a trip yeah yeah like dude is this going to be a fun trip for actually I've got an answer don't go to be polite yeah true go if you want to yeah true
44:04Tunde Ogunsina:if it's going to be fun go if not
44:06Frankie Foster:but what I do love
44:07Tunde Ogunsina:about a stag do is that because you've then built the relationship with everyone on their stag do when it then comes to the actual wedding it's just even more fun because you've already got the rapport with everyone and you feel more comfortable do you know what I mean
44:18Frankie Foster:yeah true it's good for that that stag do bonding at the wedding yeah
44:23Tunde Ogunsina:because the group chat is popping all the way until the wedding back to the group chat you love it I went on a, this felt like a stag do,
44:31Frankie Foster:but I went on a 30th birthday to Ibiza and I did know everyone there, but not everyone knew each other. And actually this is random, but the guy who's 30th, it was, didn't make it. He was ill. So we had a group of guys that didn't all know each other now on this trip in Ibiza together. And it made it so fun because it was just like, we're here now, like let's make the most of it. and that group chat still exists. I was going to say
44:58Tunde Ogunsina:the group chat would have been raw.
44:59Frankie Foster:Yeah, yeah. And it was hilarious. Was he annoyed?
45:01Tunde Ogunsina:Yeah, he was gutted, obviously. And he's still in the group chat. It just wasn't there. Love that. All those polls. Okay, amazing. So that wraps up this week's episode. Welcome back to the SLMan Podcast! In the first episode of 2026, Harvey James is joined by SLMan contributors Frankie Foster and Tunde Ogunsina to chat cold-weather outfits, the cultural moments they can’t stop thinking about and what they’ve been loving lately – from Frankie’s unexpected drawing era to Tunde’s latest TV obsessions and an elite January indulgence: a cheese subscription. The conversation then turns to the headlines, including Bruno Mars’ upcoming UK tour, swirling James Bond rumours (hello, Callum Turner and Theo James) and a Liverpool versus Arsenal moment that sparked serious debate. The team also share what’s on their fashion wish lists before Harvey drops the biggest news of all – the arrival of baby Casper (stay tuned for some genuinely useful hospital tips). Finally, the team tackle some listener dilemmas, from phone snooping in relationships to whether it’s ever a good idea to say yes to a stag do with near-strangers.
