In short
The SheerLuxe Podcast episode mixes (1) millennial “romance on screen” and what makes Off Campus feel refreshingly non-toxic, (2) summer womanhood logistics—beauty maintenance, travel prep, and airport nail/beauty ideas, (3) fertility education and egg freezing/IVF (including Lou’s likely IVF in June), and (4) fashion/beauty recommendations plus a debate about Dua Lipa and Callum Turner’s London town hall wedding look.
Guests
Lou and Natalie (both flew in from Sydney). Lou discusses TV, restaurants, Zara/Monsoon/Reformation style, and beauty/SPF; Natalie focuses more on fashion/beauty and the wedding-look reaction.
Key claims
Off Campus is “written by a woman,” emphasizes respect/consent (e.g., “make her feel safe” and orgasm-focused communication), and offers healthier relationship benchmarks than earlier rom-coms. Fertility conversations are too reactive and stigmatized; women need earlier, GP-initiated education. Airport beauty services (especially nail express) could reduce pre-holiday stress.
Notable examples
Off Campus (and comparison to Sex and the City, Dawson’s Creek, Gossip Girl, The O.C.); Rafa Nadal Netflix doc; restaurants Impala (Dean Street), Trishna, and Kiln; Mother SPF tinted 50; Farah’s lip compact with primer; Julie/Callum Turner wedding town hall look.

I was giddy. It felt flirty. I felt like I was in the room. I just completely lost myself in it. Yeah. The true cost of womanhood, particularly in the summer and far beyond. But any time I'm traveling, doesn't matter where, what time of year, I'm convinced I need to be a new person. with a new wardrobe, a whole new look. And I become obsessed. I let go of my day-to-day responsibilities to try and curate this new look. And our genius idea for airport beauty before your holiday.
0:45I do think there should be more nail bars at airports. Yeah, but not at the airport, like on the flight. No, I'd love it. Like a long haul flight. Surely that's a prime time to get your toes done. There is a new episode of the Shalex podcast out every Friday so make sure you hit the follow button on Spotify so you don't miss a thing.
1:12Welcome back to the Sheer Lux podcast. I am your host Billy Bartia and today I am joined by Lou and Natalie who has flown in all the way from Sydney to basically be on the podcast. Before we get into today's chat please can you guys talk us through what you're wearing? I am wearing a blazer from Stylin, Scandi brand. Love. My tank is COS, who I think do the best tanks on the high street. Jeans are Massimo, and my little shoes are Zara. Those are so cute. Little daps. They're so comfy. They're very cute. I got ruined by a pair of really bad flip-flops last week. Same. Like, so bad. So I'm really scarred, so I'm in my comfy shoes today.
1:48I had to buy new – I bought these shoes yesterday because I got so ruined with like swollen jet lagged feet then a flip-flop and the heat my feet are destroyed anyway these are our kit you can confirm extremely comfortable yeah i never wear a loafer do you have socks on with them no they're really really comfy yeah i've been like i've walked like an hour and a half in them today um uniqlo trousers i don't know what this brand is i was in soho the other day and there's this like korean clothing store and they've got some very randomly cool things in there it's great sporty i like it yeah i am wearing a sneak peek of i thought it was gonna be cute i've got my second collection with rick so coming out at the end of june and i've basically stolen this sample from our shoot in lisbon and i've worn it pretty much every day so what can we expect from this season it's kind of similar to the previous one just really easygoing dresses like I just love a chuck on and leave the house vibe but we've got like really beautiful kind of softer palette of colors this season really gorgeous prints um and I'm I'm super excited I can't wait for everyone to see it the black one you had last year yeah is that the shape of the lemon one that you showed me no it's actually a bit different the lemon one has got buttons all the way down so you can and it's this really lovely like light cheeseclothy fabric so you wear it on the beach and just wear it open.
3:15And is any of the old collection going to be coming back? We are doing a repeat of the black dress. Okay, that's what I want. But this time in cotton and with like tiny little cornflower blue flowers. Cute. Nice. But yeah, I'm super proud of it. And I've just got these little brown cord sandals from Miu Miu. Those colours on you are insane. Like that blue, that's my favourite two colours together. Me too. It's like a chocolate and a baby blue. Me too. But on your skin with the pink cheeks. And what's the necklace? I got this jade necklace in Hong Kong. And honestly, I think it's my most complimented piece of jewelry.
3:50It was like 20 quid from this amazing woman who has like this jade stall in this amazing jade market in Hong Kong. And she picks, you pick out like what kind of color beads you like. And she literally whips up the necklace there and then. So it's the length that you want and the right kind of stone that you want. And I just, I really love it. What does jade bring? Is that calm? It's calm. Yeah, but it does also get very hot. I'm under the sun. Do you feel calm? I always feel calm with you guys. You are a calm person. Yeah, relatively. Where's this bracelet from? It's really twinkly and really cute.
4:23This one is actually from Astrid and Mew. I thought it was that one. No, it's called the Carnaby chain, and I got it last week. Is it welded? It's a welded one. Lush. It is twinkly though. It's really cute. I had the catbird one, and probably broke it, and I feel really lost without it. I had the necklace and the bracelet, and I need to replace it, and that looks really cute. So you can't literally take it off? No. You can't take it off, though. If you want to, what, you have to cut it? Yeah. You can be re-welded? I think so. So the idea is to really wear it forever. Forever. Yeah, and you can get little charms.
4:55And you kind of can, it's so thin. It's so cute, I love it. I actually wanted it as an anklet. I was going to say, an anklet would be gorgeous. Yeah. I love an anklet, I never wear them. Team trip? Yes, I'm keen. Friendship bracelet.
5:12Right, let's get into things that we are loving. Lou, you've got some interesting things on your list today. Okay, I'm going to start with off campus. I know you're a fan. Guys, I'm the worst person to talk to about TV. Okay, I'm going to... TV shows. I've obviously heard of it. Okay. Okay, and I did, as I mentioned, just recently watch a movie. I'm not completely off, but I have no idea. Like, all of the shows people talk about, I'm like... So it's like another teeny high school, university drama. The summer I term pretty whole was in my heart. And when I first started watching it, I was like, this is really shit.
5:51Like the acting's odd. There's a lot of excess nudity and sweat. Is it American? It's American. Yeah, it centers basically around four hockey players and their life. Anyway, first two, I was like, I don't know if I can do this. And then I persevered, and three and four just had me in a lock. Like it was, I was like blushing, I was smiling, I was giddy, it felt flirty, I felt like I was in the room. I just completely lost myself in it. Yeah. Is it a drama? I mean drama, drama's generous. There's a dramatic element to it, in that it sort of goes into sexual assault and mental health. And there's some like heavier topics in there, but under the guise of this romantic lens.
6:45And look, I think what off-campus does, and it kind of follows on from what you're saying, there is a yearning within millennial women to watch like love on screen that feels uncomplicated and quite sexy and a bit silly and just really far removed from the perils of every day. That it is. Why millennial women? I think that we haven't been serviced in that like escapism. Or maybe we just have a like a deeper craving for it because we're now in the like 30s of our life where everything feels a bit hard and overwhelming. The rom-coms of our generation were so complicated and toxic. And I think what I find really refreshing about it is how un-toxic it is.
7:32Like the way that they communicate with each other, the boys in particular, considering they're like men to be in their 20s is so refreshing. And there isn't any, there's no playing games, even at the beginning that sort of is what the plot is. But like, it's just very transparent. And yeah, the way that they all speak to each other and the respect that they all have for each other at that age, I just, I feel like we haven't seen that. in a series and yes maybe does that create unrealistic expectations about how people should communicate at that age or like in life yeah but I also think it gives a really good benchmark of actually I won't take for less than that and that's actually the way that you can speak and you can be and you can have relationships and communicate with each other and I just found that really interesting and authentic and not something that I've seen before and it's also really hot and sexy and and they're like jockey guys that you know maybe a stereotype and uh like be slightly judgmental towards and that they would be abrasive and dismissive of women and there was this really like silly but great scene where two of the guys are like shirtless and working out and they're like oh you know well I want to have sex with her and you know what is how do I how do I make this happen and without being like an asshole basically and they're like ultimate kind of jockey playboy one is like, dude, you just have to make her feel safe.
9:00Yeah. And I was like, oh, this is good. Yeah, he says he needs to make her orgasm. And how is he gonna do it? Like how is he legit gonna give her a really good time? And you think about what these answers could be. And it centers around respect and making her feel comfortable. And it kind of really like stopped me in my tracks that was an answer in like a sort of fun teen show. You can tell it's been written by a woman. I'm trying to think if we had like what I would have had access to in my early 20s or teens like in terms of shows. Like what, aside from Sex and the City, like what show, like there just wasn't as much of a volume of things to watch that you could like learn from as well.
9:45Like I feel like we just learned everything as we moved through it. probably in a very like unhealthy toxic way i don't know i feel like i had dawson's creek that was i feel like everything i learned about relationships but that was that was very very mature for their age like probably too much but that was obviously in a series but i feel like in a film we never really saw it and there was you know the how to lose a kind of guy in 10 days and never been kissed and it was just always like something was wrong with someone and i didn't yeah but even with like the oc that that was like only ever kind of quite toxic yeah versions of communication and love and it was always there was always and it was beholden to something and it was always like money related as well like the high society yeah gossip girl like yeah had the angle of like money celebrity sex attached to it but nothing that was actually helpful in real life And also the clicks of like the jocks and the geeks and like that just isn't a thing in this.
10:44And like he really embraces, once the jock decides he likes his girl, doesn't matter that she's not one of the cool kids. Yeah. Also I really like that she has curves and it's not like maybe Misha Barton-esque back in the day when it was like about being like so slender. Oh my God, with those serious like hipster jeans. and the bones and she's kind of like I mean she's incredibly beautiful and really talented and you can see how anyone would fall in love with her she's brilliant but she's also kind of reflective of like a normal body that's nice and it's really refreshing that that isn't it's not part of the storyline it's not like quite spotlights or highlighted you're just like oh these are just like two really attractive people that fancy each other I need to watch this show it's really good I finished it and you're still going no I finished it the first weekends and it worked but I would say plow through the first two are quite awkward to get through I was okay in the first five minutes I was like whoa naked okay fun yeah it's like yeah they really get you in with the naked abs and sweat and so something kind of awkward to watch on a plane though right do you feel weird when you're having like when you're watching something on the plane and there's a sex scene like this like what they think I'm watching some kind of of porn literally i get so like i get like so embarrassed when there's a sex scene on your screen and you're like i'm like i actually have skipped through it sometimes oh don't skip go back i've been on a plane i've been like oh god i don't want to you know someone is watching though because i'm one of those people like sometimes if i'm not watching something i'll just like lean over in the plane and i'm watching in silence whatever the other person's watching so but i love watching whatever watch on a plane i feel like you could get a real good judge of funny when someone's watching like an adult and they are watching an animation.
12:33Like there was literally an adult man. God, what was he watching? Like something. No, that's actually me on a flight sometimes. Oh, really? Do you remember? You would watch like Harry Potter on a plane? Sometimes, yeah. If I like need to go to sleep and I want something that's familiar and calming, I'm like. But yeah, I highly recommend if you want a kind of fun like Heart of Watch which actually gets a bit deeper than you originally thought it would. No, I'll do it. I think. And if you don't want a fun, like I did watch, actually it's still fun. I watched the first episode of Rafa, which is the Rafa Nadal documentary on Netflix.
13:07And I actually did a screener with Netflix and we were the first people in the UK to watch it. It is amazing. It's so interesting. And what's so great about those kind of documentaries is there's just so much footage from over the years. So it immediately like flips back 20 years ago to his first, it basically his first professional season. And just watching like everything through that lens, even what the cars up and down the road, they look so different now. And like the fashion is so different. And it's really, it's really brilliant. It's a four part documentary. And I highly recommend it. How does it compare to some of the other like sporting or like tennis sporting documentaries?
13:46So the Federer one is quite, it's the Federer one is really about the end of his career. Whereas this is about all of Nadal's career. I do think if we're talking sports docs, the best one I've ever watched is the Michael Jordan one. Oh, yes. I never watched that. Oh, it's unbelievable. It is so good. It is so good. It is. As someone who doesn't really watch much. Yeah, I love those types of things. I don't like basketball. It is so cool to see how they lived. Because basketball players are really a breed of their own. And it's just, I mean, like the footage with Dennis Rodman. They're just so cool.
14:26There's so much cultural impact of that era of basketball too. Like being a Chicago Bull at that time was, you were more famous than like David Beckham. Like the levels of like idolization from fans was incredible. But also, you know, like Air Jordan is the biggest like offshoot of a sports brand and to see kind of the birth of that. And he left basketball and got into baseball. yeah he doesn't he doesn't talk about that on the on the dog no because he sucked yeah but it's just so interesting like yeah it's that that one is brilliant i was totally hooked on that yeah okay that's a great thing yeah fun now what are you loving right now i went to the new it's called impala on dean street have you heard of it no okay it's amazing you know have you been to kiln smoking goats at that restaurant group they've just opened this restaurant called impala it is so cool i went lunch on friday and it was just such and actually i got like i wasn't expecting to get a booking but there was loads of counter availability it's just such a vibe it's more like it's not thai like some of the other restaurants like they have you been to kiln yeah oh i think kiln is like one of the best restaurants in london so i saw this opened i got very excited but this is more Middle Eastern the head chef is Egyptian but it's very interesting like kind of fusion menu but just everything's cooked in front of you on the charcoal it's it's just amazing but like food aside you know you go to those restaurants that just like leave you feeling so like your cup is full yeah like just cool cool people great food great music great service good vibe the design is stunning I would definitely vote for a lunch because the like in the afternoon the sun was just kind of dappling in through the windows and like the curtain was kind of blowing in the wind a little bit like soho on a Friday feels very kind of just creative and cool you know I kind of felt like I was in a tv show oh dream what was the what was the standout dish I have no idea what it's called I'll have to reference the menu but it was imagine like a shiso leaf like a green leaf whatever a beetle leaf a leaf of some sort filled with this like delicious crab mixture just like a little bite that was my fave but all sorts of really delicious things like the tomato and cumin salad was outrageous oh that's a lovely idea like really oh actually no this was my favorite thing courgettes pickled courgettes love with pickles as well so they were like like I'm pretty sure they were raw but like kind of still had all this like bite and crunch and tartness with labneh on the side that was like my dream dish that was the best where's your favorite restaurant I have a long-standing favorite restaurant and I actually went there for dinner last night Trishna on Blandford Street oh yeah I think is one of the best restaurants in London and I think I first went to Trishna 16 years ago 15 years ago I'll have to check that I'm pretty sure it's been open that length of time but I had just moved to London and I just remember like my mind was blown it's the most interesting it's like you know they've got Jim Karner and they've got heavier restaurants which are more meat focused and they do have meat there like they do the lamb chops all that jazz which are great but it's Kuralin more seafood focused really light fresh punchy zippy but I've never ever had a bad meal or experience there like it is consistently over the years and I go quite a lot.
18:04Do you have the same thing every time? I'd like move around a little bit, but I do have my favorites. Where's yours? Really hard question. I feel like you're such a Dover Street counter fan. I do. I was going to say, I went there for the first time with you guys a couple of weeks ago and loved it so much. I've not been. I was like, it's my favorite. It is great. But I think for food and the food there is really great, but it's like, if you're, if you're going i don't know like chef-y i love luca i'd say similar to you like i've never had a bad meal there i've only had like amazing experiences those parmesan fries i think about most days they like melt in your mouth it's like it's like shoe pastry very very light shoe pastry that's like got parmesan on the top and almost like so it's not a potato fry no it's not potato fry it's much much much lighter it's it's like a it's a canapé vibe but the god the breadth of restaurants in london is like so extensive like it is just great so much good stuff
19:12okay moving on from food to fashion beauty and all things that we are currently loving and wanting to buy Lou so this weekend I went into Zara because I had to I normally do not go into store but I had to get my daughter some clothes for nursery anyway side note I then went into Zara home and their clothing selection is so nice and such better quality like it feels quite expensive for Zara and the fact that it's like lounge wear but I got these really nice light blue you know in the summer when you like you get home or like on the weekends and you want to wear something a bit more relaxed they're like a kind of a cotton twill drawstring waist just super chic I saw this picture of a nuke eve wearing this like unbelievably chic summer outfit and she had this lush like raffia big hat a kind of oaty lemon oversized knit like a kind of open weave knit and these light blue trousers which which were totem, which were really expensive, and they're like little white pumps.
20:18And I was like, ooh, chic, that's like my summer look. Anyway, these Zara trousers are really good to do for that. So they came home with me. And they also had really good swimwear. So I'm not a colorful person with my dressing, but I do love a red color pop. And they had a really nice, I like a square neck swimsuit, really simple, like nice low back, really good like deep cherry red. Nice. In Zara as well. So yeah, just not somewhere I'd originally check out. And then also a really cute, you know that, the trend of like the kind of prairie white frilly dresses. Yeah. But over denim. A dress over denim.
20:57Or like over tailored trousers, just kind of making it feel a bit like less kind of boho-y, a bit more modern, like tomboy edge. Really lush one of those too. So yeah. Zara Haas. Check it out. Check it out. I've got a fun fashion find. uh monsoon have collaborated with cali thorpe who is a really great friend but also kind of one of the og like curve influencers for fashion and they've got a really i love her yeah she's wonderful the collection ball is now live and it's just really beautiful and so her and has like very sort of moroccan-y color tones like earthy browns and oranges and then there's like a thread of baby blue uh sort of going through it but it's there's some really good swimwear pieces in there it's i think they go up to a size 24 and there's some beautiful caftans and really nice coords uh and i'm i'm like i feel like i'm struggling at the minute for beach wear yeah and that feels like it's ticking so good a great box you know who's also just launched a really cool collaboration is courtney grow with reformation oh yeah do you know her yes you told me about her Oh, she's so cool.
22:05She's just like, She's very cool. Ultimate cool girl. Just couldn't literally throw on anything. Amazing style. Amazing style. And then just like, an amazing figure. Like she literally just throws something on you. You're just like, wow, that outfit just works. She's like, fun and experimental. Like she makes me want to have more fun with fashion. And like, she plays with textures and color. And Reformation, I think often can be quite pretty and girly, but she has just brought a good like, modern edge to it. Cool. I want to see that. Yeah. and fun colors that makes me think like, ooh, okay, I could try a bit of line.
22:36I love Reformation. Yeah. They're also, there's a brand that I think people forget is they're quite size inclusive. They have extended size on quite a lot of their pieces and they do like a great linen slip skirt, like really nice silk dresses that I think are actually really good. Yeah, they kind of have their core, but I think they like experiment and double with like trends and fun. And I think also just putting up through like the guys in the lens of someone else's style and even though it's the same product but this kind of putting a different spin on it i think is really refreshing yeah interesting and that's how there's things that you currently want to buy so i was recently at a farah media event in sydney and i hadn't tried her products before is that all the blue stuff all the blue and those colors it's like that blue on your dress oh really it was actually in selfridges this morning and her beauty stand her concession is like this super bright blue and the super bright red and those two colors next to each other you just like you i'm like yeah yeah so what whatever they're doing on the branding perspective is like killer i'm such a sucker for that like that is like if i'm walking around and i just see like a sexy stall and like good packaging i'm sure 100 % So what are you buying from Farahoe?
23:54So I tried this. Have you also held the palettes? No. They are heavy. Yeah, heavy. Like it feels. It's kind of Westman Atelier. Yeah. Yeah. But they have this beautiful lip compact, which has a primer that you put on your lips first. Like really moisturizing and nourishing. And I actually get quite dry lips. So you've got the primer and then this really beautiful color that stays on. What color have you on now? It's really nice. Yeah, it's really. This is Hourglass Sparrow. and i love it and the hourglass lipstick stay on as well okay like i love a good lipstick but it's finding the balance between a lipstick that stays on and doesn't dry your lips out and i've yet to find that like this stays on but my lips are dry so you need the nourishment and yeah but then also if you don't want it to be like glossy or shiny i don't really love gloss and gloss doesn't stay on so i never really understand the concept of gloss but you like a gloss i do like but you're just reapplying gloss all the time see i just can't i need to like be done yeah um i i actually really used to be a matte girl but i found that because my skin is quite oily it just looked a bit too jarring because i would be like too glowy on top and then it it was sort of like wipe me out yeah so i i prefer a gloss there's a um a violet yeah yeah i haven't tried this stuff i'm not dying to i keep i keep getting served that obviously instagram knows that i'm looking for something like that that kind of feels hydrating but not shiny it's very good and the ceramic applicator feels really nice and cooling okay a ceramic applicator yeah or lip gloss so it's not um spongy it's not spongy and it's not a lot of a lot of them are like metal but this one is it's ceramic so it stays cooling oh nice on application which so i could there's um there's a sunday riley auto correct the under eye thing also has a ceramic is it ceramic or metal whatever the applicator is it's really cooling so it kind of like de-puffs your eye as well applying it so it's it's the same kind of concept on the violette lip balm oh i'm really i do love a lip i feel like if you've got a lip you're kind of good to go yeah so yeah i'm all for them but i i like lip pencils and glosses i still have not i just need the one lipstick to do the job yeah but yes fire her meat is great okay okay i need to look into and i've discovered a new spf that i do want to share because obviously spring summer have you tried mother spf no it's an australian brand okay it is unbelievable i've never tried face i don't even need to wear moisturizer like it is so moisturizing and spf together I don't even wear SPF every day, but I do now because of this.
26:42It's really delightful. It's a tinted SPF 50. I'm sure. I'm sure. Yeah. I mean, I imagine. Is it spelled M-U-M-U-T-H? No, just Mother. A different one. Mother. The branding is yellow. It's like in these yellow tubes. And it's honestly, yeah. And what makes it different to any other SPF? I don't know. It just goes on. It's very silky, dewy, but like sinks in. It doesn't feel like it's sitting on your skin. makeup goes on really nicely on top of it it feels it feels like a beautiful tinted moisturizer but it's 50 and it's thin it's just every i don't even know how to describe it but whatever it is makeup on like another foundation or like concealer on top of that i would it's slightly tinted i mean if no if i was traveling if i was sitting on the beach or i mean i don't really wear makeup in like summer summer but no that would be perfect on its own but if i'm around town I would still put something on top but it's divine it sits well on top it's divine and it doesn't you know a lot of SPFs like they make your eyes water and burn I mean I could use it as an eye drop and nothing's I know that you love um you love a beauty recommendation I've been trying the new medicaid pdrn serum which is actually it's a vegan formula because pdrn is typically salmon yeah sperm or salmon really yeah uh and i'm actually allergic to salmon so i've never been able to try it but this is a vegan formula so anybody can use it oh send to me and it is it's so nice because it's it's a really aqueous formula it has over like 150 billion exosomes or something in there that is plumping hydrating kind of just like gives your skin everything think that it needs at what point do you use it in the routine care immediately after cleansing because it's so like you sort of build your routine based on uh the the like levels of thickness of your product so this one is super aqueous immediately onto the skin after cleansing and it's like hyaluronic is that be that's kind of that kind of um texture yeah and it just is like so fast absorbing it's really really really good cream drops serum pump serum love like honestly that is exactly what I want from skincare all the words you've just said anti kind of like works on wrinkles works on fine lines hydrating pumping all of the good stuff I'm really enjoying using that the PDRN trend of salmon sperm is just like sap and i were discussing the other day it just freaks me out a bit too much it's a bit much yeah i know i understand and i'm sure there's other skincare that i use where i'm unaware of what is in it yeah but unfortunately i've just i know too much and just it there's something that doesn't as a vegetarian that feels really weird about putting some sort of salmon dna yeah but this is vegan it sounds good yeah you know what also is um squalane you know biosense yeah so um i be a couple of weeks ago i my skin was just feeling so dry and i wrote in chat gbt like this is my current routine these are the products i'm using what do i need to change up to feel more hydrated i've got these extra products at home or like what am i missing anyway it was like and hydration was like number one and it recommended that i try squalane oil Biosance do a vegan version of this squalane oil and it's literally purely that and it's such a nice texture I also find with oils sometimes they're a bit yellow or orange and then they stay in my pillow I know what you mean yeah whereas this is clear and just like one pump of that before bed with some gua sha do you gua sha every day I wish I should do but I don't but like when I remember I feel really proud of myself so probably like once or twice a week once or twice a month I never remember I don't own a gua sha so I will I have like the metal tweezerman one I need to get one and the metal feels way more active like it's doing something like it's doing something than the pretty ones yeah but I really need to like up my routines anyway that was really good this is just a quick reminder if you are loving the podcast please subscribe to the Sheerlux channel so that you can enjoy all the content that we create
31:02right right Celebrity. The music. Favourite section of the podcast. And we are all aligned on what we are discussing today, which is, of course, Julie and Callum Turner's London wedding. Thoughts? I think we've got polarising thoughts. Oh. I didn't love the look. Say more. You know what? I could have been influenced by a much more fashionable friend of mine who we reacted to it at the same time yesterday, and she said she didn't like it. So maybe I'm just like... I've been influenced and I was trying to look at it very, you know, objectively. Well, through my eyes this morning. And I don't know, maybe not the out.
31:41I didn't I didn't love the heels or and I thought the necklace was maybe a bit much. I don't know. And it felt very like stark white. I don't know. But I am. I'm curious on what you guys think. I just loved how unexpected it was. like I firstly this sounds so silly but I've never seen in recent days celebrities do a town hall wedding yeah that was lovely was it Marlboro in town yeah Marlboro in town hall and just you know the the picture I saw like there was no one famous out there it just felt really like they were just two normal people getting married before they're gonna do this I'm sure they're gonna do something exotic as well and I just found that really like oh I feel like Charlie XCX did a town hall wedding and that Vivian Westwood mini that oh yeah that like everyone kind of was getting married in but I I loved it yeah I thought it was really cool and I'm guessing similar to your vibe that her the bigger wedding is going to have a really different feel to it so I guess she wanted to throw people off yeah but i feel like i'm just like quite used to seeing her in more kind of fun young exposed exposed yeah it was very lady it was very lady yeah if you covered up her face and said who which celebrity would you put in this for their town hall wedding never in a million years would i have said that yeah would i have said her what was the reference again and Bianca Jagger seeing the original reference I think made me get it a bit more but I don't know but I mean she doesn't give Bianca Jagger like in her style it doesn't feel like like a naturally her look but I think just as a vision together I thought he looked great yeah his suit was perfect they're a gorgeous couple I mean it was actually it was really funny I was listening to the radio this morning and Greg James was talking about the wedding and he was like I just feel bad for whoever was coming up after at like the rotation of weddings at Marlapin, at all both Marlapin Town Hall.
33:47Because they'd be like, oh, for God's sake, like Dua Lipa and Cantana are just coming out of here looking fucking fantastic. And now our big day has been upstaged because they're there with the fanfare of being like two of the most beautiful people in the world. But yeah, they look great. I don't know, it's just something different and unexpected and I'm keen.
34:10right hot topic for this podcast i've got beef with how expensive and time consuming it is to be a woman in the summer i couldn't agree more it is so as soon as you have something to go to the stress of trying to get everything done yeah and pay for it and the admin and the order of it and how you're supposed to do it if you have a full-time job just don't know the admin that is so it because you're ordering things and then you're dealing with returns like it's a lot yeah I don't know why I've been like this my whole life and I just can't wait for the day where I don't do this anymore but anytime I'm traveling doesn't matter where what time of year I'm convinced I need to be a new person a new wardrobe a whole new look and I become obsessed I let go of my day-to-day responsibilities to try and curate this new look.
35:06And then I get, I just did it now to come here. But it's like, other than also the clothes, the beauty maintenance. Oh my gosh, the beauty maintenance. And also, at what point do you start it? Okay, so if you're doing wax, tan, nails, hair, buying all your toiletries, thank God you can travel with more than 50 mil now. Was it 100? Was it 50? I don't even think there's a limit anymore no I think it's gone not all airports not all airports but Heathrow definitely is over 100 mil now that you can take with you fine but thank god that's gone because that was a real irritating stress that was not a nice era but it's like as soon as you finish the rotation of all the things you have to do them again you have to do them again yeah and it's like I went for a walk on Saturday morning and I was just really enjoying the sun and really enjoying like hanging out with my friend and I was like shit now I've got to get to my wax yeah and I was like now I have to go to a wax and I wanted to go for a shower before and freshen up and there's just never enough time and then it takes two hours to get it all done and get your pedicure sorted and your feet not to look like hooves and three weeks later you have to do all over it.
36:10Yeah, the admin of having to do that is just such a fath. It's very annoying. And also, I just don't understand how long, in this day and age, how long it takes to do mani pedis. Long. Like, why? I stopped doing biab recently. Like, I've cut my nails down and now I just do normal polish and it takes half the amount of time. I mean, you're natural nails. Yeah, so I rarely, rarely have my fingers done, but I feel quite gross. But you've got nice, lovely, lovely hair. I feel like I need to have my nails done. Like, you've got great nails. But do you do biop? I do biop, and I go and see Millie Mason, who is also the best.
36:47Oh, yeah, you told me about her. Oh, she's the most wonderful. And I kind of like it because it's girl therapy for like two hours, and we just giggle and chit-chat. but it just it does add to all of the I can't stand sitting down it does add to all of the hours spent and I was like on the phone to one of my guy friends this weekend and he was like what we were just talking through what we were doing blah blah blah he's like well I've played around a golf and done this and done this and done this and I was like all I've managed to do is like get a pedicure get a wax and find some food I know it's half your day gone I'm really fuming that you don't have to do any of these things but I feel like there should be more services so like you know when you're on a plane or when you're getting your head, I'm sure when you get your head and this does exist, but like where you could get some of those services.
37:30Well, I agree. Surely that's a prime time to get your toes done. On a long haul. Yeah. Maybe there should be, yeah, maybe you're like. I do think there should be more nail bars at airports. Yeah. No, but not at the airport, like on the flight. No, I'd love it. I think that's maybe difficult to organize. I think they would do so well nail salons at the airport. But like a quick express 30 minute man of your pity where you've got like a little bit of time to spare but you don't always have the time to build that into your like days before the holiday. That would stress me out though because like are you getting to the airport that much earlier and then what if they don't have a space or then are you doing that because you're delayed and then what if your flight suddenly was not delayed?
38:10You should be able to book. You should be able to book it but that would be great. Do you like getting a massage at the airport? I've never had one at the airport. I couldn't have anything worse. Not like a lie down, get unchanged. But like one of those chairs. Very nice. I feel like I've had a lot of long layovers in like, you know, Asia or the Middle East. And that's on offer. And I'm I'm a sucker for it. Oh, really? Yeah. No, I feel like I think I want to be touched in an airport. No, me neither. I also feel I don't love a massage. Oh, my God. I don't like a massage either. There is no greater joy to me in my life than a massage.
38:48Really? the feeling of like really firm pressure on my shoulders oh my god I've been getting foot massages in Sydney like every week I will go get a foot massage and it's to me like I just melt it's the best it's the best feeling I absolutely love it hand massage all of it I love massage head massage do you like face do you like being touched I guess so yeah I don't think I really like oh my god I love it so much I can't relax but I'm not saying it's kind of counterproductive because I'm honestly lying there with my shoulders by my ears. Oh, I fall asleep. I dribble, I drool, I snore. I'm like, wake up like that.
39:26Oh, I love it so much. I wish I was more into it, but yeah, I kind of do it and I'm like, I can't wait for this to end. Have you had a good one? Maybe not, but I feel like I'm just not relaxed enough to be able to have a good one. I regularly ask when it's ending. I'm like, same. How much longer? Are we talking about a body massage though? Because maybe you guys could dip your toes into, you know if you're a bit like impatient a foot massage is great because you're in a comfy chair you can still be doing some things on your phone i couldn't i could not bear someone touching my feet like that no even when i have a pedi when they scrub the bottom no that is very ticklish i do not like that i think my i'm not my reflex must be i get this pain behind my ears if anyone's watching and knows what that means please tell me because under my feet i get this like twinge here it's like it's weird strange so yeah maybe it like runs through your teeth i don't know it's weird if i get a fright or a shock my hands tingle my fingers go like electricy okay so i don't know i love a facial i would happily agree through like an hour two hour facial but like but do you like a soft delicate facial i like firm yeah i like um like put me through the car wash yeah i I love that.
40:36Yeah. Have you had a buccal massage? Yes. Is that when you're in your mouth? Yeah, it's amazing. I'm wearing barley. It was unbelievable. I hold all my attention here. Yeah. And it was nuts how much, like, I cried. It really released a lot of tension when they did it. Did it change your face afterwards? Yeah, you don't realize how much. Massively. Really? Yeah, I can feel that there. It's like, it was so puffed. Was it your master muscle? You could get master to Botox. Master to Botox, yeah. Yeah. I can feel it, my, like, crunchy there. And, like, granny went to the mouth. Face Gym. Do you ever go to Face Gym?
41:07You can do the add-on. It's expensive, though. It's an extra 55 pounds. Oh, wow. For the buccal massage. And it's only an extra 10 minutes. I understand someone's putting their hand in your mouth. But they are gloved. It just irritates me that so much of this good self-care is so flippant expensive. So expensive. How are we going to do all these things? And we were talking, and we are going to move on to it now, just about like kind of moving on from the sort of surface well-being and self-care and the expense that women incur during that to like the bigger things like egg freezing and fertility and that you have lots of things to say about yeah I've just been thinking about it a lot at the moment because we're going to be doing IVF most likely in June see how that goes so I'm like learning about all of this and I just didn't know about it I have a child already so and fell pregnant with Navy easily which was fantastic and then we've been trying for a while I'm 40 in July you know and it's like I'm working on my business and my career and I didn't feel ready to have another child so soon after having Navy and so we're sitting with the nurse the IVF nurse just talking about the process and with IVF obviously it's not guaranteed to work right you can you can retrieve eggs they may be good they may not be obviously as you get older like your egg quality declines and I just thought to myself I wish it was a conversation that was shared with me when I was younger even when I was still in a relationship because it's not a single thing versus a non-single thing I feel like there's a lot of that's that's the stigma attached to it oh you freeze your eggs if you're not in a relationship even if you are and you just want more time you want to focus on your career like the choice that I made I just wish it was spoken about a bit more and I know like you know it's it's expensive it's a big decision to make but had I known in my early 30s that actually this could save me a lot of time and money and stress later down the line I would have saved up for something like that I would have said no to a few you know silly holidays in Ibiza or a few you know yeah like all the things other things that we spend our money on and it just I think it needs to be spoken about yeah because you get you have this like I always just thought I'll be fine I fell pregnant with Navy easily like it's not going to be an issue and undeniably like it does become harder it's not you almost want the doctors to be wrong you know and be like no it's fine i'm healthy but we're our bodies are constantly changing i have endometriosis now yeah that i didn't have when i had navy four years ago so it's like i don't know i feel like it should be spoken about more and i think there's just a wider conversation around women's fertility in you know the 30s 40s that needs to be discussed more I think it has been a bit of a taboo and a conversation that you know people only then talk about once you're at the stage of yeah being ready for that and actually there's so much education to it you know obviously when we are younger you're like very much taught of like wear a condom otherwise you will fall pregnant yeah like that's all I can remember yeah literally everything you know no No one ever shared any details of any nuances or difficulties or what fertility journeys might look like.

44:24Or difficulties you might have along the way and your options along the way. And, you know, educating women in that before they get to that stage, I think it's just so important. And I just don't think enough attention is put on it. I feel like GPs even, like even if you're going in to see a GP for a sore throat or an eye infection, I don't know. If you're of a certain age, there should be a responsibility for your doctor to just check in, check in on that subject. Because if someone said that to me, I just didn't even think about it. It wasn't even a consideration. And even now, like I'll go through the process process and I still don't even feel I want to have another child now, but I still don't even feel ready.
45:07I'm still trying to factor in, OK, well, when does this happen with all the other things that's going on with my life? And you can't plan it. It's out of your control. It might not even work. Like it might not even happen. But I just, yeah, it has to be spoken about more. And in a proactive way as opposed to a reactive way, because I think so much of the conversation around fertility and egg freezing, there's kind of two prongs. There's one that's quite like shameful attachment to it that like, you know, oh, you've been left on the shelf and you're not able to have a child in the most natural way that we have been taught about.
45:42And so you need to like protect yourself to this because you've not been chosen to have this like motherhood path yet by whatever higher power they're referring to and the other one is that people are only talking about it when they've already had a really negative experience where they're like i wish i'd had you know the option of egg freezing or i only am learning about my fertility now that it's precarious whereas if we had been educated or those conversations were accessible earlier on where actually this isn't the statistics now are that women are having children later in life because for so many reasons but I think one of the most obvious is that it's a huge expense and it's not that money isn't available to you in your early 20s when you're in your prime childbearing years and you know we also are understanding ourselves later in life because we're having to contend with so many things that previous generations haven't but it is frustrating that so many of those conversations are just reactive okay we're going to jump into listener dilemmas i've got two very different but very interesting ones and i'm excited to hear your take is it rude to unfollow someone after they've had a baby if all they post is baby content oh interesting I would say if they're a friend just mute just like a little I don't want to see this right now um but then you have the ability to kind of check in if you know if you're seeing them to know what's going on yeah um but I think if you don't know them why not I agree yeah if you don't know them why not I think it depends what you're firstly if you are triggered by a pregnancy or whatever that's absolutely fine you got to protect your peace yeah if I think about it from my perspective as someone who has worked very hard and shared a lot online and you know I like to think I create valuable content if I've had a long-standing follower who supported me through you know many years of all the lovely things I've done and then they decide to unfollow me because I post a few baby pics I think it's a little bit cutthroat because you're just entering another phase of that person's life that you did once like like and respect and support so I don't know I'm on the fence about it I think a mute is always nice yeah and it depends on your relationship with that person if it's someone you don't really care about and they're just irritating you unfollow yeah I unfollow people all the time or maybe like if it's then a sudden like change in content shift if they were suddenly always doing something that you found really inspiring and then suddenly it was like all just about the children just like that's not that's not what you want to consume yeah and if it doesn't feel like you're at that same life stage it's also just yeah kind of unengaging yeah like anyone I follow I want to be either inspired or entertained by what I'm seeing yeah and if I don't get that I feel like I'm quite cut through okay going back to our airport conversation my friend insists on arriving at the airport four hours early i prefer 90 minutes who's right depends where you're traveling agreed but four is extreme i wouldn't i like to get to the airport early i'm like a two hour gal i like it i'm by the rule like i you know never would do four hours could do three depending on the airport some airports are fantastic i want to eat the food i want to look at the shops i want to like take my time i don't want to be stressing and schvitzing towards the gate yep my husband would like to get to the airport as our flight is being called and it has created a huge amount of tension in our relationship i've gone to the airport without him i'll be like i'm meeting you there i'm not doing this today i'll take the heathro express at this time come whenever you like i'm checked in yeah and i've done that good for you um four hours is extreme though that's ridiculous you don't ever need to get anywhere four hours in advance i caveat by saying the only time that you should indulge in a long airport stay is if it is a honeymoon or a big occasion and you've bumped yourself up to lounge you've got the lounge yes yes agreed drink yourself silly on the free champagne and enjoy but if you're just there like to sit by the gate for three hours yeah no no yeah that's a bad idea and it is airport dependent yeah t5 i could spend all day there yeah lovely yeah not so much i don't want to be in stan at stanston airport for four hours i feel like with that friend of mine i would say neither of you is right or wrong i agree but maybe just be like okay cool i'll meet you yeah at the gate at this time or whatever and then just make your own way there yeah there's no i think they're like starting up to holiday with with unnecessary stress is so unhelpful so do whatever is going to make you personally less stressed if that means for you getting there however early sort of self-help.
50:38If it's then, I'm slightly more in the later camp probably. But it's like so silly. Also it depends if you're traveling with kids or without kids. With kids I always want more time. I never want to run to a gate. I've done it once in my life and it was hell. I actually get nervous thinking about it. And I thought my heart was going to burst through my chest. I've never had to run this hard in my life and she is not a natural born runner. And it was horrendous and I think that has stayed with me. But I'm in your camp that like, if I'm traveling with friends, we don't have to spend every moment of that travel journey together.
51:12If I want to get to the airport and like pick a couple of bits up at Boots and like find a new book to read, I'm going to go ahead without you and I will see you at the gate, give you like a high five and crack on. Yeah, I'm often caught running, but once my, the thing that stresses me out more than anything. Maybe we've seen the Victoria Beckham show. Yeah, I'm a sprinter of heart. I like to just show off sometimes. The thing that stresses me out the most is if you've booked a small case to go on the overhead. Yeah, and they try to check you. And then they've let too many people on and then you have to check it in.
51:47Nothing stresses me out more than being told I haven't paid for that service and then I'm going to have to wait for it to come around. So as soon as they say the flight is ready, I am up there immediately. I will join that queue and pretend I have speedy boarding because I don't want to be the person that's going to have to or like when they put it right at the back oh yeah oh my god I hate that and get around people but my husband is so chilled about that I'm like you don't understand like if I then have to wait for you I might as well have just booked my thing on so could you just join me in the way that I want to do this and just let's just get on the flight quickly I feel you because I'm the same.
52:24Like I do not want my bag to go on the carousel. No. I understand that philosophy if I really land and I need to be somewhere quickly, but more often than not, I don't. I'm in no rush. But for some reason I land in a country and I'm in a rush. Like I've got to get through. But why? It's like this made up. Of course you don't want to be waiting around, but I don't actually have anywhere to be. Like I landed in Heathrow and I'm like walking super fast. Challenge. You have to be on the sun. It's 6 a.m. And I've got no meetings today. like I don't need to be doing this. I don't know. Yeah, I agree with that.
52:55I feel like you just want to, you just want to get there as quick as possible in the most efficient way. So like I'm walking on the travelator always. People who stand on a travelator. No, that should be illegal. What? Do you? No. Okay, good. I'm laughing because I can't bear that. I was, I'm much speedier now but I was notoriously a slow walker. Okay. Until I met an airport and my friends were gobsmacked. They were like, you've been able to move this fast the whole time why are you choosing to do it in this arena oh my god people who stand on a travelator need to be counseled terrible terrible terrible it actually it really shouldn't be allowed what is the point of it it's to get you somewhere faster it might be running on one oh yeah yeah that's nice unless you've got kids with loads of stuff fine stand take your time but like i love to march through an apple it really like it's a power trip same you're like eyes on the prize who am i trying to be i'm gonna bet you i've loved today's chat i feel like we've varied of everything we've had kiwis we've had duolipa we've had like the perils of being a woman we've had some off campus we've had many an airport tale fantastic thank you so much both for joining thank you and thank you so much for watching
