In short
The SheerLuxe Podcast episode is a mix of celebrity gossip, fashion talk, and “hot topics” dilemmas. Guests discuss whether Zoë Kravitz and Harry Styles are engaged, based on her wearing a large ring and their constant public affection; they speculate a low-key, small ceremony. They also mention Charlize Theron’s press-tour looks for “Apex,” praising stylist Leslie Freemart. For “things we love,” they swap recommendations: Netflix’s Beef season 2 (Carrie Mulligan and Oscar Isaac’s middle-class couple entangled with Korean billionaire owners and a poor staff couple), plus barbecue-season cooking (lamb kebabs, Persian/Middle Eastern sides from Sabrina Ghayour) and London mini-marathon/urban safari stories. They debate public transport etiquette, arguing messy or smelly foods (corn on the cob, Pepperami) are unacceptable pre-8am.

36How have you been in this office for this long? Since being here and being on video a lot, I think because everyone else is really embracing fake tan, I look really pale compared to everyone. I'm like, I'm not having this. The celebrity engagement that everyone is talking about. I'm just already thinking, like, what's she going to wear? And we have our say on whether it's okay to eat on public transport. But this morning, someone next to me was eating two large corn on the cobs. Yeah, it was like... What, time a day? This is pre-8am. Wow. We upload new episodes every Friday, so make sure to follow Shillax on Spotify and turn on notifications so you never miss an episode.
16Welcome back to the Shillax podcast. I'm your host, Polly Newman, and today I'm joined by Laura Black and Jen George. Hi. Hey, hi. Feeling a bit like rusty in my hosting skills. It's been a while, but I'm looking forward to... We've got faith in you. We have got. Yeah. You're going to smash it. Okay, thank you. Well, we're all quite coordinated at least. We're bringing the khaki. Yeah. Kind of like All Saints or something. We are. Yeah. A really great girl band. Yeah. Very nice. 90s. Well, before we get into all the chat, we've got celebrity chat, we've got fashion chat, a bit of everything really.
50Let's talk about what we're wearing, Laura. I am wearing, it's like their first outing, but I've gone with some cargoes today. which feels quite extra for me, but I'm kind of enjoying them. Yeah, I love them. I love the Citizens ones, but I thought I would not invest straight away. So I've gone with these from ASOS Design, and I love them. They're great. I like the Citizens ones as well, but I'm a bit like, a little bit too expensive for me now. Are they denim too? Thanks, yeah. And then I've got on my trusty, maybe white shirt, which I love. And I wanted to wear my new heels, but they didn't arrive in time, so I'll talk about this later so I'm in my old old trusty mangoes okay very nice do you start your shirts to give them because they look so crisp no iron just a really good iron really good iron a good iron and a husband that's quite good at ironing and very particular oh really and you get him to iron your stuff and he'll do it for you and he's really really good does he enjoy it as well yeah yeah that's a trick it's very particular it has it's perks it does have it just roll them out when you need to Jen I am wearing ASOS jacket these I don't know if these are kind of cargo-ish these are the unico ones um and I love them because they do the long length because the the regular length is no good and these shoes which are um h &m and if you validated that you are also wearing lattice shoes because I was like maybe these aren't no no no we love a woven shoe good yeah pretty cool I really love that jacket thank you I was expecting you to say there's a few people in the office that have it actually very cool yeah well you're the first person i've seen wearing it so that's what matters good very chic um i'm wearing a sewer blazer a t-shirt from a brand called 40me um some shorts from cos and these woven flats which are neos i love that brand yeah so good great shoes great shoes great bags and i sculpt your bags they do don't they yeah yeah big big fan um all right before we jump in please do um hit subscribe give us a like whatever tell your friends about us because it really does help us to reach more people.
54We can keep making content like this.
00All right, should we go into some things we love? Jen, what have you been loving recently? I have been watching Beef Series 2. Did either of you watch the first series? No, tell me about what Beef is. So it's the second series, but it's not connected to the first series. It's the same sort of themes. And it's a dark comedy that kind of looks at wealth and race and privilege and kind of how like awful people can become when those things interact so this series has Carrie Mulligan and Oscar Isaacs as sort of middle-class couple in America who I think she comes from a very wealthy British background and he is the manager of a country club and there's a Korean family who just bought the country club who are billionaires but they've got kind of scandal going on in Korea and then there is a young couple who work at the country club who are both poor and kind of get involved with the middle class couple via kind of a blackmailing.
00And it's just the interlinked stories of them, but it's really funny, very kind of eye-opening. And it's one of those series you watch where it's so kind of shocking, but not in a sort of gross way, just in a social way, I suppose, that you're watching it and you go, oh my God, or like, I can't believe that happened. You're kind of out loud responding to it because it's really well written. Okay. It's very good, very funny. Well, who watched that? Netflix. And series two's just started. Series two's just started, but you don't need to see series one. It's not at all connected. Yeah, but it's so funny.
30Karen Madigan plays that. She plays that character so well of like the kind of privileged but sort of clueless white British woman. You know, there's one scene where she's sort of like, she's an interior designer and she's showing the new Korean owner around the clubhouse. And she's like, I just love light and I just love color. And then afterwards, her husband, who they have this really tumultuous relationship. like everyone loves light what the fuck are you talking about such a stupid thing to say but she's like quite unaware of her privilege i think but yeah it's really good yeah sounds very good yeah what else i'm loving the start of barbecue season this weekend just gone first weekend weather this weekend was so it was gorgeous wasn't it and slightly like you with your shirts the reason i like barbecue season is because my husband's really good on the barbecue you so he for years was like I really want to get this uh Komodo joke Komodo Joe it's like a big green egg it's the other version of it they're the same price they're just in colors but he wanted it for years and I was like no like you're not spending that much on a barbecue it's ridiculous so much money and eventually I uh let him spend his money on something um and I'm so pleased I did because he loves it yeah and he's out there like smoking stuff I feel like people that have them they become like their personality yeah it's become his personality but i'm kind of okay with and they go out at like seven in the morning and start like turning exactly yeah yeah he's got all the gadgets to go with it um so this weekend he made some really delicious lamb kebabs and i did all the sides from this chef called sabrina gayer okay so she does kind of um persian middle eastern cooking so i did like a harissa rice a red pepper yogurt some tamarind beans i made some flat which was so easy.
12I'm like a power couple. Yeah. Yeah, it was delicious. Can I come round? Oh my god, it's great. It was really good. Her cookbooks are so good and so easy, like the flatbreads, the rice, I'm not gonna tell you the whole recipe, but basically you put, she tells you the measurement of the rice, 300 grams, 450 milliliters of water, cold water on the stove. Steam it. 30 minutes, don't touch it. Yeah, you're not allowed to touch it. Perfect, perfect rice. Really? Yeah, I can never get rice. I know, it's really difficult not to touch it though. Perfect rice. Interesting. I was amazed because I've always used a rice cooker because my mum was Asian and in Asian culture, everyone actually uses a rice cooker.
46They don't do it on the hob. So I'm kind of distrusting of all the tricks and stuff people tell you. But this was perfect. Only put a tiny bit of butter in it. I think that helps because it kind of, I guess, loosens it up a bit. Right. Yeah, it was so good. Well, after it's cooked? No. When it's cooked? Before it's cooked. So, yeah, I just literally chucked the harissa paste in. I'm telling you the whole recipe now. I just literally put the harissa paste in, a bit of lemongrass, butter, salt and pepper, cold water, lid on, 30 minutes. Perfect. rice yeah so good yeah yeah so that's what i'm loving right now yeah that sounds food and beef which is not food a lot of the same thing yeah um laura what have you been up to this weekend i i mean obviously the marathon has been huge chat i mean amazing anybody that did it that day makes me weep i just think it brings out the best in humanity the runners and london i think is famously like the best at that in the world i think you hear a lot of people who've done multiple ones saying london is i think because it's one of the last ones that's remaining that's really really charity based yes um and so i know what they've raised like over time is incredible um but my daughter did the mini london marathon which was so sweet i just absolutely loved it i mean it's just 2.6k and they run they get they get the best bit they get to run down the mouth at the end but sun was shining it's all obviously beautifully organized because it's part of the london marathon and it was just such a happy gorgeous day in london just looked incredible so do you run it with them no okay they literally just do it yeah well she was doing it as part of something with her school so there were teachers running but yeah they off she went i got to cheer and like everybody was cheering it was such good turnout yeah yeah it was really lovely and then on sunday my brother-in-law has just um he's got a real he's a car enthusiast to say the least and um there's this amazing guy his instagram's project 88 i'm not a car enthusiast just to be um honest here but he's just bought this amazing restored land rover and it's the long wheel is that what you call it when it's a bit longer sure um anyway it's like nine or eleven or something in the back and so because the weather was so sunny we took off the top because it's got the canvas top and we just cruised around London like an urban safari we kept calling it with it was just amazing it's so beautifully done so if you have any car lovers in your life like definitely check project yeah because it was it's very very cool what about you Polly um well mine are actually two food-based things because I got that on the brain one is a sub stack actually called dinner tonight and And I've just been getting so much midweek dinner inspo from it.
32It's useful, yeah. Because I just find it can get into a bit of a rut. And I really enjoy making something at the weekend and taking a bit of time over it. But then I kind of let the weekdays just fall into a bit of a like, I'll just chuck something quick together. We just want something quick, don't you? But what Margie, who writes the newsletter, does is the idea is that they are like, you know healthy-ish quick tasty and you can like scale them up and i tell you one thing i really like about her recipes is that in the in the instruction bit in the method she puts like the amounts in in there as well as in the ingredients literally i know it's such a simple simple i find that so annoying i know it's so annoying so so annoying um but i've made a couple of really good dishes from that and actually made them for like dinner parties as well at the weekend so you can get what's your thing yeah oh there's one there's a sausage and fennel pasta recipe that i've made a few a few times it's quite obviously like indulgent that one but it really works for like big groups yeah and when you're feeling just a bit like you need some pasta in your life yeah and my other one is a sandwich restaurant restaurant sandwich place so I'm going to call it in Winchester where I live I'm always keen to shout little places outside of London that I really like but it's called Two Hands I have been in there a couple of times and got their fish finger sandwich but it's just so freaking good it's massive I think the reason why it's called Two Hands is that you need Two Hands to eat these sandwiches because they are so massive but really like crispy massive fish fingers with gherkins shredded lettuce the bread is really good it's just fantastic if you're in the area you like a sandwich
19on to some fashion shall we laura anything like recently like i'm just endlessly like adding stuff that's the thing about this job is that there's so much product in front of me all day i'm always adding to my basket but i have just ordered um actually i've ordered them twice because the first pair arrived and they come up quite big but alex steiner came in the other day and i i just have always loved white shoes and finding the perfect pair of white heels is actually really hard she came in the other day and i was in a meeting all like i need to find out where they're from and they're naked and they're kind of white heeled they've got a little peep toe they're kind of aliyah kate vibes with the heel and the peep toe they're real leather yeah i think they're about 80 quid and not too big a heel not too big here definitely daytime and i ordered them in one in my size they came up a little bit big so i've just got a smaller size but they are excellent great i also popped into cos very quickly this weekend and they've got amazing annoyingly they didn't have my size but amazing satin trousers like i always wear satin trousers like the almalda all of those you know a reformation i think i've got literally every pay you can get but these are amazing quality and they were about 85 pounds so good and they came in cream navy brown really heavy like won't crease super easily so good but they were sold out of my size so I'm going to keep an eye on those um and actually well I've also found a set on Zara which is like a run-around set for the weekends but it's a navy quarters it with matching kind of sweatshirt shorts which I thought would be really nice for the summer but my real find actually of today it's not a major fashion find it's more of like a hack but these trousers are quite big for me and you can get on Amazon these like little buttons yeah that you pierce your trouser with like an earring so you pierce the back of your trouser like an earring and then you've got and then you use your normal button hole to put it through so you can put it put it anywhere yeah and we'll just pull it tighter together yeah i'm gonna show you probably later but they're amazing the pack was about good three pounds for eight of them and i'm like michael's gonna transform i think especially like you know at certain times of the month and stuff you literally get it if you want to go in or out yeah so good yeah we'll pop the link in the uh in the description jen i um the victoria beckham gap collection first i would like to have a word with victoria because i went all like mr or mrs gap i went online it was at 9 a.m launch and i like at three minutes to nine was like oh get on now you know so then i can like hit refresh at nine and it was already live and already like mostly sold out and so then I um just kept refreshing and then like ordering random sizes of the white jeans that Lou was wearing last week and obviously anything Lou models like I'm like oh I need to buy that because I'm gonna look exactly like that of course I look the same look exactly like Lou but they I've ordered like a size eight which I know are going to be too small and I ordered size 14 which I'm gonna do wow nowhere in between because it looks like they didn't have any so I was like just paying extra delivery each time but if they um haven't tried them yet but I'm assuming they're both not going to fit so I found a really similar pair at Massimo okay great kind of ecru color they have a fold up uh hem but I think you can fold it down um so those I'm looking at and then the Burberry Hunza color yeah love it so cool isn't it so cool yeah and it's just a kind of obvious match as well like two British brands yeah I wasn't quite sure what it would look like but they've been very clever yeah it's like the piping on the edges yeah with the red was mega yeah and i think the tank i mean i don't know how flashing tankinis are always but like the tankini is so 90s yeah i think i saw that one it's like it's like a bandeau tankini i like that it's bandeau rather than it being like with straps exactly yeah tankini like really nice tricky it feels quite like posh spice yeah it's really really nice yeah um it's really nice and then my other discovery is not fashion but i have very recently discovered fake tan yeah I mean how you've been in this office for this long I'm quite like olive skinned but I since being here and being on video a lot I think because everyone else is really embracing fake tan I look really pale compared to everyone I'm like I'm not having this so I started I mean I very much went in I guess I like raw dogged it first of all like I just picked up a fake tan I hadn't moisturized I hadn't exfoliated I hadn't didn't wear gloves I just went wow wow I know So I am like quite, I am like spontaneous in like the unsexy ways.
59So I'm not like last minute weekend to Paris. I'm like, let's just put some fake tan on with bare hands. So I use this. How was that the next day? Do you know what? This is the thing. It actually went okay. I think I didn't. So I use this Clarins gel. I did wash my hands afterwards. You know, that was one thing I knew what to do. And it wasn't too patchy. And it was, what I liked about it was I could apply it in the morning and it kind of dried and I could put my clothes on. So 20 minutes later after I'd done my makeup or whatever, I don't want one that I have to put on at night and have to sleep in and whatever.
28So I'm up for all the tips. Yeah, we are an office of fake tan lovers, I think. I just love it. It makes me feel so much better. It just makes me feel so much better. I felt like... You're like... Excuse me, like Leo. I felt like Giselle. Honestly, the next day I was like, I look amazing. What's happened? Wow. That was so good. What's your fave, Polly? I'm a bare by Vogue gal. I have really good fave. Which one's fantastic? The pale pink mousse. I get the clear foam because it has no guide color. You don't want a guide? Well, I've got really used to it. And obviously, like, you know, disclaimer, I don't always get it right, especially around my feet and my hair.
05No, I've been looking at your legs as snow. No patchiness. But I think that's just because, you know, I could be better at, like, buffing it or whatever. But I do think the color is really natural. It doesn't dry my skin out too much. And I love that it doesn't transfer onto your sheets. Yeah. I can't be bothered with it. Because my husband gets free. Although I do think if you put any on and let it properly dry before you get into it. it does transfer much less yeah so that's a hot tip yeah yeah um yeah if you're a sweaty sleeper perhaps then clear tan water is the one and then i've actually got something to recommend which is a new bear by vo product sounds like this is sponsored but it's absolutely not i just want a lucky few to try it before it's even launched but she's launched a um like a mask so i really like her face tan products as well but it's like a really thick indulgent like face mask it's just like a really like rich night cream I guess um that you can slap all on over on your neck as well and the color is really nice because I sometimes find the face tans like just generally not just this brand or anything that can be a bit like you know patchy around the face whatever but it's just a really nice even yeah I don't find the face tans work that well for me either the one that I do like because I've used this for a while is the sandra pay mist and actually what I did was because last week I was quite patchy and I just used it on areas of my legs and hands where I noticed it's a bit patchy so i just sprayed a bit of that mist you sound like a pro someone that's very new to fake yeah for 10 days later now it is my job to yeah be good at you yeah but no no i want all the tips i want all the tips because well kabuki brush that's what my tip is yeah yes i can brush it in the feet yeah and the hands yeah i wish i listened to myself but sometimes like at night time when i know i have to put it on before bed the idea of like having to strip off oh my god as well as buffing my hands I'm just like yeah that's why I'm gonna do it in the mornings I think yeah that's when I'm more like in in the zone yeah it is like my worst bit is doing my tummy especially if I'm cold so I'm just like oh I haven't done that I look I look like a well like a white swimsuit on no one's seeing my stomach at the moment I really rate that I just have to do it all which I just I think every time yeah because I'm just like I hate looking at my like pale ass I just look look around i'm like oh that's upsetting i've got to do myself a favor i can lucky harry yeah not so lucky harry depending on how you look at it um well i've got one little thing on my wishlist currently that i went to when i went to harvey nichols this morning with rebate there was a pair of little flats little mules from jude do you know that yeah i love that brand yeah so they're like they're quite known for a sort of peep toe that's b-shaped and they do high heels I think Nana actually might be wearing something today, like having just done a marathon, which is mind-blowing to me.
46But fair play to her. But I'm more of a flats girl, and they've got a pair of white flats with a little peep toe, mule shape. And I just thought, God, they'd be so useful going into spring and summer. Ooh, do I need to have a look at those? Yeah, and I've not seen their flats. I think white shoes generally are like really flattering. Yeah, very useful. Very useful. So I actually didn't check the price. I thought probably best not to on this occasion but I will be dreaming of them I think as far as designer shoes go they're not that bad they're not mental mental yeah I'll talk myself into that on a scale if you need some persuasion there's always something more expensive there is always so therefore like I'm actually saving money because I could be spending way more exactly alright a quick reminder before we move on to please do subscribe and rate us and tell your friends about us because it really helps us reach more people
42Okay, there's been a lot of celeb news in the past week that I would like to discuss, but Jen, I think you have something that you want to talk about first. Well, I don't know if it's news. I think that Zoe Kravitz, well, people think that Zoe Kravitz, we think, as a people, that Zoe Kravitz and Harry Styles are engaged. I hope they are. Because she's been wearing a big rock on her finger, and they're still smooching all the time. Yeah, apparently they're really, really in love. I keep reading the phrase, he would jump off a cliff for her on the internet. I'm like, who said that? But that's cute.
13Yeah, who told her? That's really sweet. But I also forgot that she was married before and she had that, do you remember she had that adorable, I think it was Alexander Wang dress. It was like very Audrey Hepburn dropped waist. Mm. So I'm just already thinking like, what's she gonna wear? And do you think, I think they would go low key small. I hope so. Yeah, I think so. They're not like flashy people are they? Yeah. Probably in Rome, they seem to bloody love Rome. yeah maybe it will be Rome but I like that they're quite low key yeah me too they're very likeable did he do the marathon this weekend because he normally he does marathons doesn't he he does he loves marathons he did one did he do one sub three did he he did actually and he's good yeah yeah he's super fast like it's even more of a flex another reason to like him which actually brings me on to my other celebrity gossip which is my new favourite celebrity Sebastian Saoet yeah such gossip that he ran sub two marathon I mean but do you feel sorry for the second guy yes totally so the guy that came second also did sub two i know no recognition in history to have done it under race conditions and the guy who comes second yeah also did it but like i mean he literally was like one hour 59 and 32 seconds or something mental like it's and i know every second counts but like so close yeah unbelievable but i loved his all the interviews afterwards with this sebastian guy because people ask him i know it's you know we're all journalists and we have to ask these questions but she was like what did you have for breakfast and he's like two pieces of bread and a cup of tea yeah i know they wanted to say something extraordinary don't they like you know 25 grams of protein and you know i don't know some kind of crazy smoothie and he's like tea and bread yeah it's incredible i did see a woman this morning on instagram saying that she was trying to run at his speed on a treadmill i mean like she managed 14 seconds her legs she was probably about my height were going she's sprinting so fast I mean she wasn't just sprinting she was like giving her she was like the coyote everything and he did that for two hours crazy it's mental isn't it I think like because they're so graceful when they're running they almost don't look like they're going that fast when you watch them on the TV did somebody say it was 13 miles per hour yeah I think so 13 or 14 that is mental insane pace isn't it unbelievable I couldn't do that yeah I couldn't do that for 14 seconds no I don't think I could either can we quickly talk about Charlize Theron and her Oh my god.
30Looks. Wow amazing. Who is her stylist? She looks unreal. Her stylist name is Leslie Freemart and wow. I mean they've worked together for quite a long time I think. But her looks especially for this particular, I think it's the press tour for Apex. Yes. Which is the film that's coming up shortly. She's just looking so good. Yeah. So good. She wore this like open blazer to the premiere like last night I think perhaps. With like a ruff. And she's got no bra on, no top on underneath. I love yeah she's looking really every look is very sexy but in like a quite androgynous like rokey way there's not a lot of like there's a lot of short things and like it's like balance but yeah exactly there's not a lot of tight stuff yeah and I think she's 50 or something and it's really cool to see someone you know dressing like that and it feels age appropriate still sexy yeah fresh fresh her hair's also really cool it's very inspiring yeah her hair look like her so cool so just a moment for her and her stylist
34okay let's move on to our hot topics something personal to us that's you know getting a goat whatever it might be come on jen mine is mine is that i'm just wishing wishing people to be less flaky i just feel like i don't know if you've both noticed this and i don't know if it's because a lot of my friends are currently in the baby slash toddler phase so obviously there's a lot of like sicknesses and having to cancel and I and I obviously understand that but I just feel like I put in dates of people now and I I'm thinking they're gonna cancel yeah it's bad isn't it's bad and I have certain friends that I that I don't even bother with anymore basically because you know you try like three times and you just think well I'm not gonna bother and then I had this big 40th a few weeks ago it was a whole weekend and um one of my friends uh tried to cancel the day before and they had a sort of fair like the reason was I would say like half valid but they could have still come to like it was a three-day thing so they could have kind of come to the second day definitely so I actually just said to my husband like you just got to call them and say like please do come because we'd we'd also spent a lot of money on people being there like per head and someone else could have had the room um and they weren't the only person to someone else had canceled a month before the date had been in everyone's life is six months and you know when people are like oh i've double booked and it's like well you're a grown you're a grown up yeah you also should have realized you double yeah and i just feel like people need to be a bit more respectful weekend yeah like the amount of effort i mean i saw the pictures yeah yeah the amount of effort you guys put into that yeah no they came in the end oh yeah they did well they'd be okay with us talking about this now yeah because the reason yeah because the reason was half valid and then when we spoke to them they were like okay we'll we'll we'll make it um but I I just think everyone's time is so precious and everyone I hate the word busy actually but like we are all yeah we're all juggling no matter if you have kids or not I know that was spoken about last week as well but like I think it's very disrespectful to just assume that someone's you know going to be fine with you especially like a Friday or Saturday night so as we enter the summer and those weekends become so valuable yeah I just wish this is a PSA to my friends no I agree I think this there's occasions like my friend and I were talking about it actually and she was like oh well like you know I know never to cancel and you're like listen if it's you and I and we're like saying one night after work we'll go for a drink and then on the day one of us is like well we're not really out for it fine but if you know if you put in a group thing on a Saturday night or yeah it's different a weekend away or I just feel like people just aren't reliable anymore that's a shame isn't it i don't know what it is whether maybe it's because we're so easily contactable and you don't have to possibly necessarily you can just duck out by sending a text which feels like that's true yeah um and obviously like you said there are instances where there are very valid excuses and yeah child care etc whatever but yeah i feel like i don't i can't speak from experience but i think probably in the olden days it was harder to flake you just had to be there at a certain time or you know someone's house because it was polite too and it's harder to cancel yeah i think it's just better to say no earlier on i agree yeah don't commit to things you don't think you're going to turn up yeah i think i find it hard because like i'm a bit of a people pleaser and sometimes i'm not i don't have plans and someone's invited me to something in the week so i don't have an excuse to be like sorry i can't make it because i'm doing eggs it's just uh actually i just don't think i want to come yeah because like i don't want to go to london just for the evening but i find it hard to just exercise my right to say that you should i don't fancy it yeah i think that's the thing though i think if like manage your own expectations and everyone else's when it comes to your time like yeah no because if you do over commit then you're going to exhaust yourself this is true yeah and i think the french do it quite a lot they just i don't know i think i saw a tiktok once apparently they just go like no thank you yeah i wish like yeah i mean on the other end of the scale i love saying no to things too like you know we spoke about this you need to give a reason if you yeah but that's the thing like i don't always have a reason and the reason is sometimes sorry i don't want to go home but like you can't say that can you like it's not polite but maybe we should all get better at that maybe we should be more french be more friendly more french okay that's the takeaway that's kind the answer to everything isn't it always be more french usually yes yeah okay so i have a little a thing that i want to kind of gauge your opinions on okay it's eating on public transport so i've had a couple of instances recently on my train into london from winchester where the person next to me is eating something i think it's the time of day as well that really gets to me um but this morning someone next to me was eating two large corn on the cobs do they still have the husks on or not, that just interests me.
23Yeah, they did. And I was just like, what are you doing? Just straight from the field. Yeah, it was like. What, time of day? This is pre-8am. Wow. It was at like 5 to 8. She had a real setup, actually. Like, she had her iPad and was watching something. And she had like a sandwich bag with two massive fuck off corn on the cobs. And then also some dumplings that she'd just eaten beforehand. But like, there is no delicate way to eat a corn on the cob. No. But she was proper like going for it. Were you getting it on your jacket? I was just like, what are you doing? like I just obviously I can't really say anything because she's not she's not doing anything illegal but it feels illegal like it was just so great and then a couple of months ago again someone pre-8am whips out a pepperami which is so feral and then ate it which again so smelly disgusting and then she got another one out and ate that as well that's not even a hangover I was gonna say like it was like a Monday yes I know like I just feel like as someone who was quite acutely aware of things that I might be doing to piss someone off, whether it's like, okay, I don't wanna play my titties out loud.
24Oh, your music is a piano pleaser, yeah. Or like, is this appropriate to be - If I take a sip of my water, is that going to annoy you? Yeah, it's so amazing to me that people don't think, is my eating this massive fuck off corn on the cob so aggressively a little bit disgusting for the people around me? Yeah. Like, it might gross them out. Like, they're just trying to enjoy their commute. Do you know what I mean? I think with food on purpose transport, especially the tube which i just think is so grim like if you get on the northern line for more than a couple stops and you blow your nose it comes out black like that's that is and it's horrible i think if you're choosing to eat all those germs then fair enough it's not has anyone else but if it's something that is either messy or smelly yeah in those two cases then that is not acceptable yeah any kind of hot food really is kind of unacceptable because the smell unless it's like a 10 p.m.
15train and you've got a drunk McDonald's and I'm like, fair play to you. But all the rules are out the window, I think, past a certain time and everyone's pissed. It's the morning. It's the morning. It's very inconsiderate. So, okay, I'm glad we're in agreement. Yeah, I think anything messy, loud or smelly shouldn't be allowed. And like, I don't disagree with, you know, if you want to eat your food on a train, like I understand maybe you're like really hungry, anemic or whatever and you need to have them, but you can just have a bit of bread. That's inoffensive. Or like a little pasta salad, fine.
44Good. Yeah, pasta salad. Because then you need a fork. I think there's something a bit. I've definitely been like, I guess when I worked more regionally, I would like get a Leon and eat it on the train or something. So maybe I am guilty actually because Leon smells a bit. That's really stinking. Yeah. Oh, gosh. Maybe you're the problem. I'm the problem. But I wouldn't do a corn cob. Corn on the cob, no. I don't think many would. No. I don't think I'd even do a corn on the cob in a restaurant. No. It's so messy. And it gets in your tea. It's so unbecoming. It's not a very delicate thing to eat, is it?
17No, okay. Well, thanks for your reassurance on that one. I wondered if I was being the asshole, but it seems not.
29Okay, let's dive into some dilemmas next. This is where we answer some of your awkward scenarios. First one's a good one. I accidentally stalked my boss on Instagram and liked a photo in 2018 do I address it? no you unlike it firstly yeah obviously you just unlike it I don't think it shows up if you unlike yeah I thought that I don't think it's that deep it's worse if you've like watched their Instagram stories because then they can see that but I think a like I would just immediately unlike it yes I think and if you haven't done that then go and do it then do it done it and have a stiff drink Yeah, my friend, she like a while ago, I mean she's quite a voracious stalker of like, she likes everyone's business, but she got into a habit of not only watching her like ex-partners like stories, like multiple, she would also stalk their like new girlfriends and also watch their stories, but she didn't realize that they can see.
27And we told her that, she's like, no, no they can't. And she's like, I've been like, don't even follow them, just go on and watch their stories. so beware beware next one what are your thoughts on voice notes I hate getting them but they are so much easier to send sometimes oh I'm wither on that yeah it's a love hate relationship it is a love hate relationship I think if you think that they're easier to send but you hate getting them you need to get off your high horse like yeah but it's just there's sometimes the reason I don't like them is if I'm at my desk and someone sends you a long one and someone sends me a long one like I wouldn't listen to it so then I feel like I'm delaying it yeah yeah I think you've got to know your audience as well like I have certain friends that I voice know with and I have others that I don't yeah it's a completely different relationship I think like it's fun like it's also quite like somebody voice notes you it means that you're a little bit yeah closer do you know what I mean it's always for a ghost as well isn't it it's never like but I think sometimes people use it inappropriately and it's like I know a work thing and they're like yeah hi babe um just thought I'd send you a voice note because it's easier it's like easier for who yes not for me and you just want something from me i have no problem with friends just being like i've got some juice for you and like you can just listen to that your own time when someone just can't be asked to write a nice email to you being like i would like to work with you or whatever i'm like nah it's a no from me i think you've hit the nail on the head though you're thinking of a work pasty yeah people sending voice makes a work capacity i think when someone says because it's easier yeah is it easier for both of you or just one of you yeah I do love a juicy one though.
06I see one, especially in like a little girl group. Definitely. You see your voice and you're like, oh, we are ready. Going in. But I do like a double speed too. Oh yeah. Thank God for a double speed. But sometimes I find if someone wants something from you, I'm much more of a like, need to see it in text, like in points. So I can then like tick it off. I think friend versus work is different. Work generally, I just think stay off my WhatsApp generally. yeah what's that used to be a sacred place well now it's really hard to find where and somebody's contacted you none of us had we all used to have work phones back you know although i'm quite glad they don't carry two but yeah exactly yeah but um but yeah my what's up is a little bit of a sacred place okay so that's we've decided it's voice notes in a personal capacity but not in a professional yeah yeah strictly okay great um and just a little question to finish off would you rather be overdressed or underdressed at every event i think as a rule in this office we are usually more overdressed than a lot of people yeah but i think if i'm going to an event i pair it back often you know what i mean yeah i would rather i'd be more comfortable if i was slightly underdressed i think i'm always i always go under events because i think if you're overdressed I think it depends on how you carry yourself I don't generally like to dress I don't wear a lot of bright colors anyway because I just don't like a lot of attention on me a lot of the time but I think if you walk into an overdressed everyone's gonna look at you yeah and if you walk in underdressed everyone might look at you but I think if you do underdressed in like a cool way yeah you can get away with it yeah you can get away with it yeah I guess like it's such a fine lined toe isn't it because if you turn up to something and it's like I know someone else's event and you've gone all out on this like outfit they'll be like does she think it's all about her yeah yeah yeah yeah so i think i'm with you maybe just a tad underdressed but not not like tracksuit no no it's a thing underdressed but like and even small things like clean like if you're going to wear trainers to a dinner like just make sure they're cleaning trainers not like covering you know scarves and dirt or whatever have you ever like got the dress code wrong like for a wedding where it was like black tie and you didn't realize or something my wedding was black time someone wore trainers oh but but she looked she looked fine she looked fine she looked fine if she was going on a day trip she looked fine no one wore white she was comfortable at least yeah well i think that wraps up this week's essay thanks for joining that was a really fun chat um thank you so much for tuning in please do remember to subscribe leave us a review and share us with a friend.
