Do you feel like you've become more of a barbecuer because you are now a dad? That is a good question. Yeah. Like when you become a father, that's just an immediate skill. Yeah, yeah. The garden is mine. Yeah. The strange but desirable new scent from Joe Malone. Carrots blossom. Carrots? That is intriguing. Carrot blossom. Yeah. Have you smelled it? Yeah, yeah. I've got it. I absolutely love it. I think it actually might be based off the carrot flowers, potentially. Are they carrot flowers? And should men be going to the doctor more?
32I think there's an element of stiff upper lip to it as well, actually. Oh, come on, don't be a mask, you'll be fine. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And actually, it might not be fine. And actually, how much time is it really going to take to get it checked out? It's a really good one. Enjoy.
52Hi, and welcome back to the S.O. Man podcast. we are joined today by Tunde and self-taught British cook and content creator James Holdsworth. Hello. Hello, hello, hello. Today we're going to be delving into the latest culture, the latest sports, your dilemmas, and generally chatting about things that are interesting to us at the moment. If you want to see what we're wearing today, head to the SL Man YouTube channel where you can see the full podcast. And if you haven't already, please subscribe to our brand new channel so you can get the content that we love making. Without further ado, let's start.
31How is everyone? Yeah, really good. What are we all wearing today? What have you got on, James? I am wearing some lovely Levi jeans. I've got my wallabies on. What do you call that wash? Do you know what? You'd have to ask Levi Strauss. I don't know. Himself. It's like a stony... Green or brown? it's a brown isn't it sort of like a dark sandy color um anyway i really like it it's not sort of not something i've worn before yeah it's like quite underrated because you can style it quite yeah totally and i sort of i don't like wearing light colors and on like both top and bottom but actually you sort of kind of get that it's not quite wintry like dark navy or black or something yeah yeah i don't know quite like summer jeans yeah yeah i think so they're quite thick and then just a classic white tea from toast and then my cap is from about blank yeah they're cool yeah they seem to be doing the rounds now everyone seems to be uh copping on yeah when they're when they're not on the head and they're just on a rail they look really weird yeah i know what you mean see the well i think you have to wear them a certain way otherwise it's suddenly there's something yeah you know what i mean your head looks the wrong shape but then actually when You got them the right way around.
43You're like, oh, shit. Okay, yeah. This is really cool. Yeah, it's got some, like, side divots. Yeah, and it's quite rounded as well. Very rounded. Like a duck bill. I really like it. Yeah, nice. Turn it on for the S.L.A. pod. I appreciate it. And then I am wearing a T-shirt from M &S. My jumper's also from M &S. Then my jeans are from Abercrombie. Socks, Uniqlo. Shoes are moss. And then glasses are Ray-Ban metal. We've gone double ruched shoes today, haven't we? Love a good ruch. Very smart. beautiful yeah we were talking about them weren't we like they're so comfortable to put on yeah just the niche like as a as a style because of the ruche it means there's a bit of space so immediately comfortable but do they lose their structure i think they do i think because i have those as well yeah and now when i put those ones on they just like just just flop off yeah yeah how long do you think they took to lose their structure i think quite quick really quick but like, okay, these are the first wear and they're still fine to put on, but I reckon if I wear...
42First wear, they're still fine to put on. Wow. Great boy there, mate. I'm taking them on holiday with me tomorrow, and I reckon when I by the time I get back, they would have probably like... No. Yeah. No, no, no. I don't think so. Are you an overwearer of shoes, though? Oh, yeah, I am. I love these now. Like, you find what pair you like, and then you just like... I genuinely feel like I've worn these two or three times a week for the last six months. and I I think they look great I think they're still holding up just fine but I don't think that losing on structure is a bad thing I just feel like they are yeah they become a slightly different yeah yeah yeah different shoe on your foot maybe a bit more casual yeah yeah true yeah my girlfriend was like are you not gonna clean your shoe before you go on the podcast today and I was like no I think that's just the way it's that's just the way it is now it's lost its sheen but I quite like that a proper shoe should look worn in loved I agree storied if you will where else have I got on I've got, these are from Russell and Bromley, the roost shoe.
42Uniqlo socks, because, always, because they are the goats of socks. Percival jeans, which I always feel like they ride up loads when I'm doing the podcast. Show off those socks. You can see your leg. You can see my shin. Mate, you got it, flaunt it. I do actually have really big calves. That's another part of my outfit that I'll be revealing. I don't think I've ever seen your legs. All right, we'll arrange that at some point. I'm not sure where this belt is from, but this shirt is also, I don't know where it's from. That's good. It's a good start for me. Vintage. I think vintage I got this from.
15This is a tie from Rampley and Co. Cool. Is it like, is that sort of like a Paisley, but really far apart? Exactly. Yeah, it's cool. Like a minimalist Paisley. Aura ring. I was going to say, snap. Nice. That's the new one as well, isn't it? yeah, yeah. That's the one that's a bit thinner, isn't it? Yeah. They are the best things ever. I can now go to the gym without taking my oaring off because obviously that was the big thing before. Yes. So I love it. Would you recommend it then? I would. The colours in this range as well. Yeah. Well, I was going to say that's really easy. Is that like brushed as well?
50Yeah, brushed. Yeah, I love it. But I still feel like it's so, it's like something from the future. Really? Yeah, I still, I really feel like that. Do you care about like, how joking you'd feel like knowing what your vitals were at all times? I feel like I would probably start exciting being healthier. Is that what you want to be doing? Well, it's something I ought to be doing.
13Wanting and knowing, being self-aware enough to know you need to do it and actually wanting to go and do it are definitely two separate things. So you're in blissful ignorance at the moment. Yeah, yeah. And enjoying it. Yeah, yeah. I sort of, knowing that I'm in blissful ignorance, you know.
32well talking going to the gym let's move on to the things we love i've been loving f45 recently obviously with a baby it's pretty hard to like get the fitness that i need so every sunday morning i try and get to f45 and it's like it's my lifesaver like without that i think i don't know i think i go insane but it's quite it feels like quite a vintage class to go to like it was huge what like six seven eight years ago was it because it was like the first like of its ilk like i feel like just doing classes yeah just classes and like a bit of a cult around it as well i also think the way that they had done it so i feel like owners of the gyms they were all like it was like franchised right so like is that right people would say they wanted to have their own gym and effort if i would like license them the rights to have their own so it was in their interest to get people as like yeah as possible yeah and they're always like good deals i feel yeah it was like five classes for yeah yeah i think as well they always crop up in like residential areas yeah so i feel like no matter where you live actually you waste them they seem to be the nearest place wherever i'm used exactly yeah it needs it always seems to be the closest gym these these are the cynical takes yeah the authentic take is they're fucking good they're really really good i've never have a lot of time to exercise so you know does what it says on the tin 45 minutes and it's always such good workout you get your cardio you get your weights it's like not too complicated and they don't move around stations too much so oh i thought they did do that circuit training yeah yeah some of them they do but and others you just like kind of stay and do your set and move on to the next one and you might do another circuit oh fine okay do you quite like that interactive thing though between someone telling you what to do and like doing that well then there's not someone like leading the class like that they're just kind of walking around making sure that you're doing it like got the right posture fine so you can still put your like music on no no you can definitely do that no no no you have to join the cult yeah you have to get involved have you ever done one no that's what that's what I'm saying yeah well we're gonna get you an aura ring we're gonna get you to F45 I'm gonna be a new man after this podcast fuck up my ideas I might even teach you how to cook maybe i'd be so i'd be so bloody lucky christ but you are learning you're doing a bit more cooking doing a bit more cooking i mean i i very much stick to what i know in terms of my cooking so i stick to sort of quite classic british and italian i know the rules i know like sort of how these basics work and then i can obviously go from there what i'm trying to do at the moment and actually really enjoying doing.
12I'm just trying to start cooking more Asian food, mostly like Bar East Asia, picking up a lot of those flavor profiles and like restocking the cupboard and stuff with things that obviously they use, which I would never normally use in my day-to-day sort of style of cooking. What sort of countries and what sort of sources? Well, I mean, I'm really not an expert, but starting, I mean, I did something from Singapore recently, which is actually a fantastic place to start because it's such a melting pot of well all that that whole area really Singapore fried rice that's banging isn't it yeah unreal yeah like I did this this chili crab and it's just like it's got Indian influences and all this it's deep it's sweet it's sour it's really spicy it's great and sort of picking up on that and maybe adapting it to use more sort of British ingredients and stuff but but trying to pick up the basics and get learn learn those rules first but i think it's a string to your bow so it's i love eating that kind of food and i just don't make it at home enough so i'm trying to learn there's a few people out there who are doing it really really well and and to be honest i'm just watching their stuff and reading their stuff picking up but it's something it's like a journey how long do you do you spend like learning it and then when do you feel comfortable then putting out like a recipe or something oh quite a long time i do a lot of testing i mean i often film it just in case it works really well and i'm oh yeah here's what i do all the time yeah in terms of like learning a new cuisine in terms of a new cuisine i have put a few bits out but no i will do that's what i'll basically do in the evenings so when i've done day cooking and then i'll come the evening i'll then try something new and i'll really keep going keep going doing that thing over and over again until i feel like i can suddenly make it without even referencing anything and at that point if i know if i'm not making any references to any kind of recipe or anything like that and i'm still coming out and it's coming out well then at that point i probably feel like i'm confident enough then start putting it out to other people i'm so intrigued what does the day of a food content creator look like from start to end i tend to get up about 6 37 walk the dog and then and i usually do a couple of hours in the morning then have a bit of breakfast and then i will cook tip well in the winter it's funny depends on lighting sounds so stupid but like natural lighting so in the winter i'll start earlier and finish earlier so from 9 30 the lights in the kitchen i'll be you know cooking full you know you're an expert on where the height the light in my very tiny kitchen sure yeah um and but no so i will usually cook probably two or three dishes a day um full meals yeah so So I try and give it away to my neighbours as much as I can.
08But my girlfriend... Yeah, you are. I'm so ready to move in. And I also want to ask you, when you say you have breakfast, I'm so intrigued. What does breakfast look like to you? At the moment, I'm being... I got into quite a bad habit of just like smashing scrambled eggs and toast every single morning. Is that not bad? No, but I feel like... You can get better nutrition. yeah yeah and actually it's quite a big meal like to start when i'm then going to be cooking all this food you know i don't actually need i'm just doing um greek yogurt granola summer berries at the moment it's like you know i mean what's not to last it does feel quite sort of middle-aged dad but i'd say that's the only breakfast that i found that actually properly sets me up for the day and it's really filling as well yeah yeah exactly um greek yogurt has something like 10 grams of protein per like 100 mil or something like that it's like insanely proteinous it's the cottage cheese for mornings that doesn't make it sound very good actually i do know i've gone off the idea now yeah no that's i do and then obviously have supper but i mean i'm out do you chef for anywhere no no i just are you a chef at a restaurant anywhere yeah yeah we got really good chat on the sr podcast no no i'm not i i'm i'm self-taught so i that's why i always describe myself as a cook because i don't work in a restaurant and i don't have any sort of formal training at all so i'm very much a home cook but i like to think that the food i'm cooking at least 75 percent of it you could you could possibly see on a restaurant menu and it's very much inspired by food i eat when i'm in restaurants rather than necessarily the latest hack or yeah like quick cheap mid-week meals you know that's not really the kind of food that i just well i don't i don't eat that kind of food anyway yeah fine um yeah eating out and stuff and like going to and and having proper chefs prepare something that's what inspires me to come home and do do i do yeah true i've been getting into barbecuing a bit more obviously yeah of course the season yeah but i've one of my sort of favorite meals and i've got a really strong like childhood memory of um being on holiday in the south of france and i think like one of our friends catching a sea bass and then just like cooking on the barbecue like almost immediately with perfect with like lemon juice and i think just salt and pepper i remember eating that i must have been about i don't know 11 12 and just being like blown away just because of the the sharpness of the lemon with the salt and it just it i was like i shouldn't like this as much as i do um so that's something i've always tried to recreate on the barbecue is just like get a good fish just i don't know char some vegetables what did i do it with i did like a parsley butter and a mix and just threw that over the vegetables with the sea bass and i was like do you know what this is all you need 100 i really think i think a lot of people at the moment are really sort of trying to up the barbecue game in the content world or just i think in general yeah and i think fish like you're saying like a good whole fish cooks on the barbecue trumps most other things you can do on the barbecue to be honest and actually it's quite simple you just don't get that refreshing hit with like a steak or something it's a different experience i think it's lighter i do tend i tend to cook more fish during the summer it's a lighter meal you don't feel so sluggish afterwards you know um i think it's great and actually it goes so well like you were saying with just like simple acidity.
48Yeah. Grilled veg. Perfect. No, I really like that. Have you got a fish cage? What? No. Yeah. A fish cage? What? To keep your fish in at home? That's so funny. No, no. So when you're cooking it, you have like, there's like a metal thing, you put the fish in and you close it and it helps to stop, but it means you can like pick it up and flip it a lot more easily. Like that is the thing. It's a bit of kit that I really want. I mean, you can so do it without. Yeah, yeah. But it's just that great bit of kit. Yeah. And actually, if you are doing something like a um a turbo or a brille or like one of those big flat fish i think it is quite particularly good and being able to flip it easily because actually once you've got the bottom cooking yeah and you're trying to flip it and it's a bit cumbersome does it like break it can break half and then like yeah or you're using the wrong tongs and you kind of go into it too much and get the skin and stuff i can't wait to have a garden it is good that's like in the heat wave recently one thing i've been enjoying just like sitting in the garden with bottle of wine do you feel do you feel like you've become more of a barbecuer because you are now a dad great that is a good question yeah no i i've always enjoyed it no not in fact less so because you just have less time to like go to a good butcher or whatever and get the thing so you don't think it's one of those things that just like when you become a father that's just immediate skills yeah the garden is mine yeah i think that would be a really territorial the next 10 years will be a process of me morphing into that yeah yeah yeah for sure the shorts will come out like we talked about his car the cargo shorts yeah tunde anything you're loving at the moment i actually am going away which i'm really excited about i saw this new resort um in cyprus called the rooms look amazing i've been so busy so i haven't really like delved into a lot of information found out the place I'm going to is actually an Iron Napa and obviously that's such a throwback it is summer and the height of summer is it a big boy's holiday not at all not even close to it how close is it to the strip like 9 minutes 9 minutes is not actually it's not that far that's pretty close if drunk people can walk to it I reckon they can Christ, a nine minute walk when you're drunk is nothing.
08True, true, true. I've got no idea what I'm going to expect from this, but I'm flying British Airways and I'd like to think people don't fly British Airways because it's a bit more expensive. So at least my flight will be... The drug dealers take British Airways. Why, did you recognise yours on the flight line?
29I am very nervous, but the hotel is beautiful. So that is what I'm like trying to like bank on. And I don't expect to be like on the strip every day. I may go to just see it. Like when I went to Tenerife a couple of years ago, I stayed in a really nice part of Tenerife, but I did want to go to like where like the strip is just to experience it for an hour. Like being on safari. Literally. What drew you to the hotel? It's just beautiful. Really? And the suite's quite big. Like architecturally or? So it's like very like white architecture. Like that's just sort of like what the rooms look like. but yeah let's see i had honestly no idea ianapa was in cyprus and i was in ianapa would you be going sober on your safari to the strip oh yeah yeah yeah to really really take it all in i don't think yeah true i don't think i want to be amongst them drunk your notebook yeah fascinating i might i might do like a five finds and uh five shots but yes that should be interesting but i'm excited to go yeah nice the last bit of sun because that's my last bit of sun, I think.
32Is it the last holiday? Yeah, I think so. Oh, no. I'm going to Italy. Rub it in. Yeah. But that's like August. It's tough when you're away that much. Is that still summer? August. Yeah, is that still summer? Absolutely. End of August? Okay, fine. Yeah, is August summer? Well, it's a school holiday, so yes, maybe it is. Yeah. That's the last holiday. I'd say September is when autumn technically starts, but I mean, even then, like in the Mediterranean. Talking of traveling, the odyssey. Right part of the world as well. Yeah, it is actually. so the odyssey is about war right yeah so well technically it's about the journey back from a war but yeah the war does hold a pretty central part of it i don't know do you guys know much of you probably i love a bit of that history buff yeah you know a little bit about that i love it yeah nerding out i think we yeah we had to do the iliad and the odyssey at school three hours throw in these factors as well okay i went to it was like um a baby screening so like families can bring their baby up to like one years old.
31So imagine like 50, 60 parents and like 30 babies in one cinema room trying to watch Christopher Nolan's new epic film, The Odyssey. Yeah, it was a lot. Do you feel like you got the full cinema experience? I reckon I watched 50 % of it, I think. Really? All the baby's crying? Yeah, well, there's just like a - It's an hour and a half of films. Yeah. There's like a constant just like babbling of babies and like some start crying more and then the parents are like walking off to try and soothe them. So there's always someone like walking past. I will say it was actually quite, it was okay. It was like, it sounds like hell and chaos, like all of it.
11I'd say maybe go and watch like Anchorman. One that you've seen before. Yeah, one that you know inside and out that's quite an easy watch. But yeah, I think I saw, like there was a there was a part when he was asleep for an hour I think I saw a lot I watched that and there was another part for like 20 minutes I was trying to like get him back to sleep didn't see anything there yeah so maybe my review wouldn't be the best there might be a few plot holes why would they choose that film of all the films to a baby screen I think just because it's a new one that people want to see and like also you can't really go and see films as a parent yeah true it must be in the morning it has to be in the morning can't be in the night time can it yeah it was in the morning 10.30 a.m.
5510.30 a.m. You were just locked in. Do you know that feeling as well? Like coming out of a dark cinema. Yeah, I know. Yeah, that's so true. But like, it's still the daytime. Yeah, true. Wow. Yeah, it was good fun. But I know the cast is great. Yeah. So I'll give them that. Yeah, it's wild. I mean, it's really taken over the internet as well. Yeah. I think they're going to go on. I do want to go and see it in IMAX because that's what everyone keeps talking about. his dream and you've got to see it like this otherwise you only see half the screen it's been filmed as a square is that right yeah something like that it's been filmed for the cinema apparently like they filmed it for the cinema for this one specific cinema but for IMAX they only have like a few of them in the country yeah so the one I saw it in it will have cut off like the top and bottom to get it in which I found out I was like it's okay I thought it was okay seeing two thirds of it going on to the actual film itself I know you missed bits but what do you actually think about because it has got like a lot of uh stick for like costumes and being like really dark and all this stuff and like what is it like did you even do you acknowledge that like do they just like people going off by like accuracy and all this sort of stuff but actually are you so does it do a good job of like bringing you along and wrapping you up into the whole thing that you kind of not really thinking about that 100 and i think like it pays tribute to the genre of like an adventure film yeah it's like the epic like just survive that thing got this other thing coming so you're constantly like engaged and though it is three hours um someone described it as a horror film but i don't think i don't quite believe that but it does have like elements of macabre kind of yeah totally the story itself it's got like scary bits yeah and i mean also there are so many bits to it like each single thing could be insane only thing annoyed me the fight at the end don't ruin it because I've heard about this yeah let's leave it there yeah how do you know what happens because it's a I know the story it's been knocking around for quite a long time to be fair can you have spoilers for a story that's 3000 years old I don't know but I've heard people have said the ending they were hooked on the ending like narrative wise yeah it's good it's good but like the way that it happens
18let's move on to our fashion finds what have you had your eye on recently didn't they i love a summer accessory and i think even the bottom or the top so i've got for the bottoms shoes by the is that an accessory uh i would say it's a shoes and it's because the section is anyway yeah i can't mule there's three types i've seen a bit more on the spenny side but take a veneta have a lovely pair of mules uh black with like the hatch the patchwork or hatchwork whatever you'd call that design then knock well have a more affordable version just as beautiful and then yekerton have this version which i have never seen a design of mule like that ever before it's a bit like the harachi you know the like i thought harachis were nike trainers but i realized they are not that's what they originate from the way that the leather is formed on the shoe um they have a really nice pair as well again black and then sunglasses i fall in love with these metal ones from in lay i love a blue frame and they have these like um like titanium i think they are a nice blue lens is it like a clear frame clear frame yeah nice and i think they're quite different for summer cool and james i i love a i mean it's the same last year but this year i love sort of like a short sleeve shirt cuban collar yeah clearly i'm watching too much sopranos um and i saw a great one from story mfg the other day such a brand yeah great quality as well and it's a bit of a funky one but they're calling it their greetings shirts which i don't know quite like I quite like the name.
03So yeah, I mean, they've got... Creeping. Sorry, that was awful. They've got a full selection, but I found one that I had my eye on. Scents and a cat? Yes. So another thing that I'm loving at the moment, Joe Malone's, they recently released a new scent. It's Carrot Blossom. Carrot? That is intriguing. Have you smelled it? Yeah, yeah, yeah. I've got it. I absolutely love it. It's my new pick. Why is blossom? Like when you put it in a phrase like that, what's blossom? Like flowering. Blossoms in the floral, yeah, the flowers. Okay, so is a carrot paired with more floral? I think it might be, I think it actually might be based off the carrot flowers potentially.
45Are they carrot flowers? Presumably it's a plant that's on the end. That's flower, yeah. Well, it's got green bits. Is that the parsley thing, isn't it? Well, I suspect it probably does flower if you leave it. Wait, is that parsley? The green leaf on a carrot? No, no, no. You get wild. You get wild carrots as well and they must go around somewhere. That would have blown your mind. It really would have. I was like, what? That's grossly on a carrot. I had no idea. So either it's carrot blossom or it's carrot and blossom. Yeah, it's really intriguing. I don't know, but either way it smells. Oh, fine.
14Yeah, I reckon it could. I like the idea of carrot in a scent. Yeah, it's cool. It's like a soft kind of different smell. If you think about it, it's actually a very nice sweet smell. Yeah, that's true. It's like raw carrot thing, obviously. So you feel like you're smelling like a vegetable then? Yeah, well, I always smell like a vegetable anyway. Oh, yeah, sure. No, I just think it's actually, I don't think it does actually smell foodie in any way. I just think it is quite a floral, but it's a soft scent. Yeah, I really like it. I've often go for sort of like quite bold, like Tom Ford, quite bold, punchy favours.
43And actually it's a bit of a step back. A bit more summery. Yeah, it is more summery. And I feel like in a way, it sounds silly, but maybe a little bit more casual as well. Yeah. Like if you're going out and you're not getting fully dressed up and you're not pretending to be Tom Ford on your seat and stuff. But naturally, it's quite, it is quite nice. I'm loving that. And then, Boetti, they've got some new caps coming out. And, I mean, I've got a serious cap collection. So, I'm going to try and get one of those new ones added to the collection. It might be number 56. Really? 56? We have to do a video on your collab.
19On your collab? On your collab. Most of them are like proper, like old school dad hats that my girlfriend's desperate for me to throw away. No cap. but I'm like if they have sentimental value I still know where they're all from and then also like at some point I want to have a you know a lovely house and a boot room and have all the caps and be like and I'm just going oh where's that from oh that's you know 30 years old and this I think it's just quite nice how do you currently store them now then they're on pegs that fall off the wall yeah yeah yeah so I think I get like 10 on a peg and then I've also got a box for them my caps are sentimental I wear one for like one year the reason I have to get another one is because I've lost the other one yeah yeah so it's just like an interchangeable thing but caps i'm loving at the moment gap got quite a nice like retro one it's just like pure white with like red and blue cool that's it kind of 90s vibes um what the spell out logo yeah yeah nice and then there's a drake'sst regis collaboration that i've got recently as well which is quite classy they always like a drake's cap so good i think it was drake's that did one withst john which is like my favorite restaurant in london did you get one i did get one like a velvety that's maybe not the right word but yeah navy blue really nice they're smart what is Drake sorry menswear brand oh yeah sorry when you said that I thought you meant it was a restaurant but I thought you were no they collabed with St John who is the restaurant there's also an ASOS Adidas Originals tracksuit so good the brown one have you seen it yeah oh mate I've not seen it I want it so bad three stripes have you actually the brown one right oh mate next week I'm going to wear it next week because I'm going to get it coming to good energy in good energy out storm zero sugar 200 milligrams of caffeine and immunity support storm energy for life oh my god how what kind of star tracks are we talking here it's like A brown check with like darker brown Adidas stripes.
23But they're a bit flare-y up. Yeah, okay. That sounds quite gentleman. Yeah. Yeah, it's a bit actually. That's a good shout. Yeah, and Noni Madweke is fronting the campaign. He looks pretty sick. And then the last one's really practical. It's a new toothpaste. Toothpaste that I'm liking. From where? From Super Teeth. Oh, wow, okay. And I've been buying quite a lot of stuff from Health recently. So much so that they're like, do you want this free little thing here? and I was like okay fine I'll try it and it's um basically just like a toothpaste with which is prebiotic has a few like mineral extra minerals in there and doesn't have harsh chemicals and I put it on and it's like you know something's quite tacky but to the point where it's like it really feels like it's cleaning me in a natural kind of way sometimes I feel I brush my teeth and it's so easy yeah slippery I'm like does anything happen there yeah um it's why I'm drawing that feels almost a bit chalky yes and you exactly there's something actually happening yeah the possibilities are really endless because like sorry this is something rats around it but it's not in my head that's toothpaste right how somebody thinks one day i'm going to make a toothpaste brand and add all these things to it it's just so well i think they see what's on the market and go yeah true this i want this yeah i really like when you come across things it's not someone's had a great idea to make a money spinning yeah like think someone's gone do you know this this we need this yeah and it's actually come out of necessity rather than necessarily how can i make money yeah yeah it's like yeah absolutely it's quite nice just feels organic yeah definitely
58right guys if you're enjoying this episode do go and subscribe that way you can get all of the episodes coming straight into your feed and it really helps us grow as a channel so thanks um Okay, let's move on to the celeb and sporting moments that are going on at the moment. Right. What's on everyone's radar? Oh, actually, this is quite a fun one to start with. Yeah, go on. Euros 28. Oh, yeah. We put the World Cup firmly behind us. The Euros in 2028 are being held in Great Britain and Ireland. Nice. Which is in two years time. So technically, the Cup is coming home. But will England win it? How will they be playing?
39The Irish wouldn't like you saying that, but it's sort of. Sort of. The finals at Wembley. The finals at Wembley. Well, then that's home. That's home. How about we try and bloody win it? That's home. Yeah, yeah. That's true. Let's win it first. Then we can get more down in the details. Oh, that would be good. Yeah. Only two years away. I know. It feels like a bit of a treat, actually, because it does feel like everything is a bit of a slump now that we've finished. Everyone's sort of, we didn't win it. Everyone's back to work. I mean, a bit of a reality check. Yeah, I know, I know. I need a break.
08I mean, it'll be very different it being on our footstep. I'm sure we'll all be at a couple of games. I'd love to go. That'd be amazing. Watching live sport is just one of the good things in life, I think. I went to watch the World Cup and that was like - You didn't, you went and went. Yeah, I went to San Francisco. The most incredible experience. The atmosphere, the vibe, everything was insane. So to see it so close to home, it'd be great because I'd have to travel 14 hours together. Yeah, yeah, totally. I just hope the ticket prices aren't as insane as the latest World Cup totally let's try and make sure that we can all get there yeah I think I think there'll definitely be more on the more affordable side in the UK sorry when it's here I think it'll be more on the affordable minefield I think it'll be fun I think it'll be really fun yeah that'll be good and it's obviously as well the world that we live in there'll be so many brands activating across every single match.
09Twin days dream. Yeah. Yes, it is. So it will be insane. I reckon like, I reckon a lot more people will be able to go from that point of view because it's just like any other sport and like for Silverstone, I think every single person was that Formula 1. Influencer wise. Yeah, Formula 1. Yeah. But it also was the most attended Grand Prix. Ever. Ever. Was it? Not just most attended Silverstone, the most? No, ever. Half a million? Half a million? Yeah, I think it was, yeah that's incredible yeah mental yeah i would love to do it one day no no i love it i like i enjoy f1 as a sort of fan like a casual fan yeah if it's on the on the television on a sunday yeah it's never it's not the sporting sort of great that i would love to like that it wouldn't be the one i'd initially like that wouldn't be the thing what sport would you choose i've got a bit of a bucket list of places to like things to like sporting events to attend.
07Can I guess? Yeah, here we go. Actually, that's good. I reckon you like rugby or something quite rogue like hockey. Not a massive hockey fan. Do you know, I would actually love to watch an ice hockey match. Have you seen it? They're so good. I think Canada or something. That'd be sick. I'd love that. Yeah, I watched one in Vancouver. Did you? Yeah, me and my girlfriend sat like we had we thought we had an hour before it started. So we sat in this bar, like watching this game. We were like, isn't that where? Isn't that the teams that are going to watch? We're like, fuck. So we just had to like sprint across the city.
42That's so good. But it's so good. Like people just whip off their gloves and stuff. Yeah. It's amazing. I mean, I'm obviously totally clear on it, but I don't know what the rules are. I know it's allowed, but I don't know whether they have to then be sent off afterwards or like. Oh, is it? Yeah, maybe. I don't know. But I think it's great. I think bring it into more sports. Should we just fight? Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean they did it in the World Cup final oh yeah true true they did yeah no I think my big one would be England Ireland and Dublin I mean I've never been to Dublin no it's Dublin no I think it'd be an amazing way to do it yeah Nations Championships obviously at the moment so like well obviously they've just come to an end but for the autumn they'll be back over here and that should be a good excuse to get some some good games yeah it's like the first bit's done right and then we're going to have yeah so I think they're doing it for two years so they'll play out of there and then they have a final it's a little bit more complicated we've got we've got a final in november in at twickenham brilliant okay so the the next half will be like in the autumn yes to then finish in twickenham and then it's going to be who's going to be what was it which uh hemisphere is yeah yeah is top dog yeah exactly yeah which is great because they were they were just like friendly games before it was just totally you know obviously their high intensity and played at the top level but it wasn't really anything other than just bragging rights and now there's like a trophy it's more televised.
07But I do think it's great and from a fan's point of view you have something more to follow and also it's one of those conversations that you have in the pub all the time is who's better Northern Hemisphere or Southern Hemisphere and you always wear it and now we've got a competition that actually does that for us.
25Alright let's move on to our hot topics what's going on in your world i've had a funny kind of like first situation recently um where because i've been posting a bit of casper on my socials um i got approached by a brand to go and do their baby campaign in in madrid yeah yeah um so it was casper's first modeling shoot recently did it yeah i've done it already yeah it was quite it was actually a really nice experience because it was like they paid for flights for my girlfriend yeah yeah yeah so we went out as a family um casper smashed it of course but it was it was a bit more stressful i thought it was gonna be because like you are also modeling in clothes he's you're trying to get him to like play ball he was pretty chill about it but the first shot was like on like a crossroad so i had to be in the middle of the road like yeah so you were doing it together yeah yeah yeah your father son yeah exactly nice so we had like six looks throughout the day um but it's really funny because like he obviously has to sleep at some point and like feed he's such a little diva does like one shot and then sleeps like an hour and a half he's just like his dad yeah i would love that to be fair a little midway nap yeah exactly sorry guys i'm gonna go but yeah it was good fun and and he was he was great but um yeah it was it was a lot more stressful because there's like two sets of clothes and the stylist coming over and they had a baby wrangler who would like be there to like try and get them to laugh and smile in different directions that's their that's their job full time yeah that's it no they've got um I can pull funny faces like shit.
10Yeah, it's such a awesome job. That'd be so good. Yeah, they've got a business in Spain that they're like, they've got a monopoly on baby wrangling in Spain. So there's just 10 of them are part of this one business that goes and does all the shoots. Brilliant. I love it when you hear about those jobs that you never would have ever thought about. Babywranglers.com. Got to get back, check that, and today's what we're going to do. Would you do it again? I would. And also because like financially for him to get a bit of money put into an account that he can access when he's 18. And he's starting seven months old.
44Like the compound interest on that guy. By the time he's 18, he'll be a millionaire. I have no idea. But no, I think that's like a nice thing to be able to set up his future. Yeah, I agree. And he's earned it. He's earned it. He really has. Yeah. No trust fund baby here. He's a craft worker. Making money. No, he's making money. himself off your loins. Does that make sense? Yeah, yeah. My what? It's not even you can't I think you'll keep my loins out of this, please. It seemed better in my head. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, there's something I really, really want to get out to. Well, tickets are something like hotcakes.
25Oh, really? But I'm waiting for the next drop, actually. What is it? What possibly could it be? Drum roll, please. No, so the Biotapestry is coming to the British Museum, a historic moment because it's spent basically its entire life in France, in Bayeux. And obviously it tells the story of the Norman conquest of Britain and all this stuff. And there was all sorts of controversy when they first announced it, whether it could travel here. And I think basically it's a bit of a landmark historical event that I think if you're interested in that sort of thing, it'd be an amazing thing to get out to.
02Also it's exhibitions. I love exhibitions. it's something different to do with your time rather than necessarily just going down to the pub with your mates and you know sinking pints like you i mean sure you could do that afterwards but um just like a nice cultural thing to do and and actually it might not ever come back here so unless you're going to go travel to normandy which i mean how many people do you know who are traveling just to go see one exhibition to another country let alone for the bio tapestry i think pretty cool thing to do and um yeah i'm definitely gonna try and get down nice i love that Yeah, yeah.
34Basically. And Sunday? I guess mine's not necessarily, yeah, it's a hot topic. It's a bit personal to me as well. But I guess it's more so, I think more men should be going to get like checkups and like check up on their health and see what they're like internally. I recently have like had symptoms of some things and I didn't necessarily listen. I thought it was something. And I recently went to go to the doctors to have a full checkup and I found that I had, yes, IBS, which sounds, which everyone gets, but mine is quite severe to the point where I have to go and see like a gas show for it. But it just made me think like, I wish I had just listened to my body a lot sooner.

11While I don't like the fact that I've had to let it get to this very moment for me to realize, but I could have tried to sort it out a lot sooner. Do you think you were actively ignoring signs or do you think you just went, was it a case that more that you were just not picking up that they were signs? I think I was noticing the signs. I just wasn't doing anything about it. I would like it would come it would pass then I'd continue it'd come again it would pass and continue like and I think just getting into that habit and realizing now it's coming it's not going anywhere so it's like now I have to like really take the health yeah but there's a lot of people that happens to so I have a friend whose partner had a lump on their head a mole on their head and they didn't do anything about it and then two years later they realized they had skin cancer so it's like um while sort of men notice these things they don't necessarily go and actually what's the reverse of a hypochondriac you know yeah it's always yeah it's definitely like something baked into the masculine psyche definitely like older generations like yeah i know that like my girlfriend's like parents and their kind of like generation as well i think they're just I don't know whether it's like bravery or like pride or like a mistrust in like the medical institutions I think there's an element of stiff epileptic as well of oh come on don't be a massacre it'll be fine and actually it might not be fine and actually how much time is it really going to take to get it checked out I think yeah if you're seeing repeated symptoms the same thing again and again you should start to notice but we do live in a kind of like strange relationship between our body and our mind don't we where we like things can happen come and then actually disappear forever like can actually it can just sort itself out sometimes other times not so it's like it's kind of a bit of a complex situation to try and get your head around i think we've been we've done really well recently in like culturally in terms of talk about mental health and you know and checking up on that and make sure we stay up to date with that and i do think that we are now starting to have a bit more of a a new take and a new a new stance maybe it's the right way of putting it on physical health yeah not just fitness yeah but actual the health of your body and doing things a certain way and actually it's not just for the radicals and like the people who are so insanely into it but actually it's something that we should all be thinking about a little bit more often yeah definitely I think there's definitely there's a few there's a few sort of companies cropping up where you can go and get yourself checked out my girlfriend didn't you go into a room and it does a full scan of your body yeah yeah exactly and it's like stepping into the future this is like pre-symptomatic yeah it's right just to make sure yeah exactly I think because everything is so at our fingertips now especially like i was saying with your ring like we have it literally on our phones if you want to just know that will tell you everything but it will tell you something um but even so things are so close people don't do anything so people should be doing more given that yeah definitely definitely i think also your experience with your doctors really makes an impact if you feel like you're comfortable going and even just going to ask a question or just get something checked up just in case obviously there's levels to that but if you are worried you should feel comfortable being able to do that.
48I think having a good doctor makes the difference really like completely. And it's potluck with NHS. I know. But yeah, I'm glad we're moving on from the like, oh, you're just weak. Don't like, just get over it. Basically like. Thank God. Yeah. There genuinely was a time when that was the case. Which is mental. Yeah. Like man up. It's so much better. People who were like sickly described as like feeble. Yeah. You know? They're just ill. Yeah, exactly. This episode is brought to you by Facebook. So you were scrolling on Marketplace, and there it was, the bike you'd been searching for. You sent a message, and it turned out the seller was super chatty, kind of funny, and an avid cyclist.
31The next thing you know, you're in a cycling crew. Well, a community cycling group. The thing about Facebook, you might find more than what you're looking for. From a browse to a bike ride, this summer, find more on Facebook.
54so we move on to the listeners dilemmas yes yeah let's hear them first dilemma would you tell your friend if they come asking for advice if they have bad fashion taste i would yeah if they are asking for advice i would tell them the truth you don't need to tell them that they have you can just guide them in a positive i would say i would try and do it for positive reinforcement you know Okay, fine. Do you like this one? No, have you talked about something like this? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Fine. So yes, I would do that. I don't think I would tell them, you have bad fashion sense. I would say it, so it'd come across like that.
31If you felt they weren't listening to you, would you then be like, look? Oh, if they weren't listening to me, then they'd be like, look, you better back on your ideas because your fashion sense is shit and I'm going to tell you how to be better. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm not telling you better because I'm not the god of fashion. Are you not? That's so weird. you said before we were recording.
49I would love to see that conversation go down if you said it initially. I would definitely say no to, should I tell them straight out? If they keep resisting and keep going down the same paths that have got them into this mess, then you'd be like, look, you've come to me for some help. Yeah. Because, you know, you look like that. Yeah. But if they say to me, do you think I have good fashion sense? or you how would you respond yes or no it's a closed question yeah i think i i think if they asked me i'd be like i think there's some things that i like about what you wear but personally that's not my style but i think actually if someone's coming to you i think if someone's coming to you and asking for their your advice on fashion they probably know they probably know in the back of their head that they don't already yeah yeah exactly you're like yeah you're like you do the advice.
41Finally. We've all been talking about it. Right, dilemma two. Should you bring kids to weddings or not? It depends on the age. Okay. Yeah. I think if they're below like two or three, they can come if they're the flower boy or girl or the ring bearer. Yeah. Any other moment? No. And then they've got to go home after that. No, they can stay. Yeah. To the bitter end. I think for me, kids at weddings, are either kids that are part of the wedding or it's like the bride or groom's or the sister's child. Sure. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think that is where I was. How close are they to the couple? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
21And do they have a job? Yeah. Basically, that's my purpose. As a father, I'd love to hear. Well, are you father as well? No, no. Well, I just think like weddings have changed so much in the last 40 years. Like previously, it was like a big family affair and then wasn't so much the friends it wasn't so much the beautiful kind of show that it is like today whereas previously you just invite the whole family and there'll be that kind of community feel to it whereas now as i think i think it's like an event yeah it's a party yeah it's a party it's an event it's and kids don't really fit into that idea of yeah the modern wedding and obviously i love kids but i've been to a lot of weddings where all my friends who have partners who have kids as well seeing them at the wedding just let loose and like nice being that environment it's yeah i'm not saying that their kids are the problem they're not problem at all but they're just a very different person yeah their kids are yeah i think if you're having a wedding that's sort of i don't know like summery and quite casual and it's outside and and then actually the kids can kind of run off and be somewhere else and do their own thing i think if that's the vibe you're going for them obviously open house and then having lots of people yeah they kind of entertain themselves is fine but just turning up to your friend's wedding with a child yeah oh yeah would you know also if the bridal groom have a child they can also come as well for god's sake yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah their own kids yeah their own kids are like oh okay well they can make the rules also it's so easy to say all this stuff when you don't have to worry about it so i don't have a child so it doesn't bother me i'll be on the other hand that's the deal with the politics well no but it is political though But I've experienced it throughout my few family weddings and stuff that that has caused family...
09Big riff, yeah. Like big tensions. And it shouldn't derelict. You should respect the wishes of whoever is having the wedding. Yeah, it's their choice of the day. Yeah, and I think you just kind of leave it at that. So if they want it, fine. If not, fine. Yeah, just follow the rules, basically. Follow the rules. Yeah, exactly. Next dilemma. your friend is bringing their boyfriend girlfriend with them wherever they go how do you stop them doing that how do you say to them how do you have that conversation i wouldn't tell them to just stop as you've done before i'd probably tell them this is a boys or girls night where we want to chat about everything yeah i think i would definitely take the same approach yeah i think also i think if it's been happening for a while i think as a mate you are within your right yeah not to say oh stop bringing them around but to maybe when you're with with your mate then you have managed to get them on their own for like a rare moment just be like oh mate it was so nice to see you on like just like just two of us the other day like proper catch up without anyone else around yeah drop it you don't have to get like specific yeah but i think it's important to have the fact that like they're around a lot yeah totally they might not like oh god it's quite a lot isn't it yeah they might not be bringing them they might just be inviting themselves yeah there's a lot of variables I think to this because if you're not close to that person but you are or well would you tell someone you're not close to you to stop bringing their partner around I don't think you wouldn't would you no you wouldn't care I mean you wouldn't care unless they're a real bore then you just stop seeing them but the partner might not have any other friends themselves right so then there's that I think it's fine I think it's really nice to be able to get on with your mates other halves yeah but Do you feel like you could text them beforehand and be like, by the way, is...
57I think I would... Do you know what I would do? I would... If I was worried about it, I'd call them. Yeah. For sure. And just be like, look, mate, really looking forward to it. I was wondering, I'm quite nice to chat. Like, I kind of want to catch up about a few things. Yeah, fine, yeah. Like, one-on-one chat. And actually, once you start... Once you've done that once, and you can do it again, and then actually, oh, mate, it's a bit of a boys' night, or this is a girls' night. And you can set boundaries there. I think that... quite often quite in that sort of honeymoon period. Yeah. You see it happen quite a lot.
28You know what I mean? I am a big person. Yeah. Sometimes you just have to respect that it is that period in their relationship. And just like, okay, they'll, they'll get over this. It'll wear off. Yeah. They'll break up. No, I am a big, I, I love independence. So like, I know whoever I end up being with, I wouldn't want to be around their friends all the time. I'd want to be able to do my own. Totally. They do their own thing and then they come together. um yeah that's just my personal preference yeah nice okay thanks so much for tuning in everyone thanks for watching if you've enjoyed today's episode do go and subscribe on our brand new slman youtube channel
