In short
SL Man episode summary: The hosts (Frankie Foster, Tunde, Adam) discuss fashion and culture through sport, plus news and relationship dilemmas. On this week's SL Man podcast, we spoke about shoes that everybody is loving or maybe hating. They are honestly the most comfortable pair of shoes. They're actually for gardening. Can't say I'm sold yet. The Mac is back. Conor McGregor's comeback. Are we here for Are we loving it? Are we going to be tuning in?
0:32He's definitely a polarizing character, so it'll be interesting to see what he does. Optimization. Have we optimized our lives too much? And do we need to leave a little bit of space for discovery? I mean, we're talking about how we don't want it to be optimized. He's optimized up to the eyeballs, literally. And of course, where everybody is watching the World Cup, as well as an SL Man World Cup party. London's a cool place to be when the World Cup is in, isn't it? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Lots of hangovers, I suspect, in London. Hope you enjoy it. It was a good one.
1:07Hi, everyone. Welcome back to another SL Man pod. I'm Frankie Foster, your host. And as always, I'm joined by Tunde, Adam. And I've got to say, before we start, me and Tunde are a bit delirious. We've been to a jab boxing class this morning. There's sort of a weird vibe in the room. we're just sort of coming down from our workout this morning but we'll be chatting all things culture sport what we're loving and your dilemmas which we always look forward to gents how are we good very well feeling very fresh I'm about to see you guys yeah that's cute I've not done a pod with you yet I know I've been waiting I'm quite excited yeah I don't think we've ever like sat and chatted what like for a long time everyone's just going to get an insight into your it's because you're all over the place right you can't get you pin you down for more than five minutes Right, let's start with what we're wearing, as we always do.
1:56Tunde, love the jacket. Thank you very much. This is actually from our kit, this jacket. And it's women's, but I've got the larger size. And I just love the oversized boxy fit. Trousers are a trusted white number from Abercrombie. I'm wearing an M &S knitted, cashmere knitted jumper. Unico socks. And then my Gardana clogs. Which, interestingly, you're both wearing. Yes. Love, love, love. And my glasses are Ray-Ban meta. Talk me through it. What, the shoes? Yeah. Did you plan your outfits together? Did you text each other? Are you guarding clogs today? No, no, no, we didn't. I just put them on because I wanted to.
2:31I told him what I was going to wear before he left this morning.
2:37Adam, what are you wearing? I am wearing Uniqlo barrel leg trousers. Nice. The plasticana clogs. Yep. You know, because you are my inspiration. And Dickie's shirt that I've just ripped to shreds, but it's nice. and you know even though it's pissing it down outside it's still a bit warm yeah it is it's warm in here cap cap oh running running cap are you all your bracelet yeah I was also going to say bracelet is first arrows from clutch cafe that's a good I wanted to speak about in the last pod actually it's a really nice store in Marleybone okay cool that's just kind of like it's all vintage inspired Americana but yeah it's from there it's really nice I watch as my my late grandad's which is cool always on oh cool Cool.
3:22And that's... Love me. A watch with a story. Yeah. Yeah. It's always... I've got a few watches, but this never leaves my wrist now. The other one's just redundant now. I do have a question. Yeah. Because I have just bought a signet ring. Yours is gold, but all your jewelry is silver. Like, how do you feel about the mixture of gold? Well, this came first. This was the first present that my now wife got me for when we got together for my birthday. Oh, cute. and then I just kind of built around it but everything I had that was silver already I didn't really want to replace it Can I ask about your tats as well?
3:57I think we have spoke about tats on the pod before but the ones that we can see Yeah that again that's from my granddad as well that was when he was in the Navy that was his number with a nice ship Nice and then I've got just a few different ones that don't really mean much just nice things All animals that I've acquired over the years yeah animals and sort of heads women's heads but yeah nice it's not really you are quite tattered up aren't you yeah kind of I don't know if I'll be going in again anytime soon because kind of you go through periods where it's just like wish I didn't have them and then they come back and you're like kind of yeah I'm happy with that okay me I am wearing these trousers are Uniqlo this jacket is Hartford an MPL cashmere tee and Adidas sneaks.
4:48Super simple today. What's around Hartford? Good question. I'm going to say Uniqlo. Yeah. That's all with our Uniqlo socks on. Yeah, I mean, we were talking about this on the SM Manage Lags pod. Uniqlo sock wall is where you need to be. Yeah, 100%. What boxers do you wear? Calvin Klein. Yeah, why? What boxers do you wear? Calvin Klein. Yeah, I have to. Yeah, Calvin Klein for boxers and Uniqlo for socks in your set, really. Yeah, yeah.
5:15Cool, right. What we loving, give me something exciting. Well, I need to talk about these AI fruit videos that I keep getting. Okay. So have you seen them? I think I know who you're talking about. Well, they're objectively like shit videos, the animation's shit and the storylines are shit, but I'm just hooked, man. Explain it to me, I've not seen them. So it's like, I mean, like one example is like a banana and a peach are like together in the home. They're like, what's the husband alive? And she'll just like fart really loudly. And then he's like, I can never be with you, Pichina. And she's like, Ben Ananito, no.
5:55And I'm just like, what am I watching? And then like, before you know it, I'm at the end of the video and I can't wait for the next one. Are they becoming a real thing then? No, no, it's really bad. My friend Vanessa, right, we were at a wedding and she was showing me her TikTok. Oh my God. This is part of it. They're ridiculous. They are so, so weird. There's also one where it's all AI, but it's like a song and like the video is then telling what's happening. So like this man is singing is like this man's tongue got stuck on the track and there's a train coming. Like narrating. Yeah, and it's so odd.
6:29It's so odd. The thing with the banana, the fruit videos is they've all got the same like really emotional song behind it. It's the same one. I don't know if you can play it. I'm quite pleased to say my algorithm hasn't got there yet. I was thinking like everyone's shit scared of AI taking our jobs, but instead it's just, it's given us like devastating storylines. So what I'm loving is I have really, I've seen a real rise in like fashion houses or bigger brands, like getting more involved in like sport. So recently saw that Ramoa sponsors the German football team for the World Cup. Then there was...
7:07France and Jagmus. Yeah, France and Jagmus. Gucci sponsoring Alpine then obviously M &S sponsoring Williams so it's quite nice to see that they are getting involved rather than their traditional celebrity partnerships and so on Don't you think if you were an athlete or a sports team you would really want your partnership to be the coolest? Yeah, I'd be kind of annoyed if a competitor had this really cool fashion house and you got stuck with someone you didn't like Something that's just real crap Yeah, I love the fact that Romero is sponsoring they've all now got Romero suitcases the content was so good Yeah, yeah.
7:39That's a good one. That's a good fit as well, isn't it? England have done a Palace one. Okay, nice. What does it look like? Not for me. Okay. But I think a lot of people are into it. It's got like a knight, like an old school kind of Knights of the Round Table knight. Yeah, yeah, yeah. St. George, I imagine. The actual kit? So they're the official partner? No, it's not the kit. I mean, I guess it's like merch that they're doing. It's a collaboration they're doing for the World Cup. So they're the official partner for them? Not entirely sure on that one I'd love to see Burberry do something with the United States Yeah that would be cool That would have been really cool That would be sick They did something with Cole Palmer didn't they last year They had him fishing Really Oh I love that Controversial not being taken to the World Cup Cole Palmer Cole Palmer fishing in a Burberry Mac What?
8:25I didn't know that Yeah he's been left out the squad As a Chelsea fan I'm Are you a Chelsea fan? I didn't know that Oh no How do you feel about that? I just think the World Cup I get it Thomas Tuchel wants to he's owning this team as manager it's like this is my team and I want it to be a squad and not just necessarily a team built out of the best players but I think the World Cup is all about that maverick player that can bring on and change the game and I think he's one of them I agree especially when I think there's a few players going that I don't think should be there's nothing worse than watching a game and feeling like you need someone or something to happen but there's not the right people to do do you know what I mean when it's like 70th minute and you're like we just need we need someone that's going to take a risk we need a maverick because Grealish was a little bit like that when we got to the Euros final we had him and Palmer last year he scored the goal against not last year in the last tournament he scored the goal against Spain in the final I just think I mean I get it he's not had a great season at Chelsea and probably hasn't been in a lot of the England caps but you know he can do so I would take him do you think we'll do alright?
9:25are you optimistic? whilst obviously I want them to do well I don't know if they're going to do well London's a cool place to be when the World Cup yeah yeah yeah it's good that it's also awful yeah but all the games are on at like ridiculous times. The one against Pamela's on at 1am, like 10pm. Yeah, that's not ideal, I suppose. Lots of hangovers, I suspect, in London. Yeah, lots of hangovers. I'm looking forward to it. Yeah, same. Many pints to be drunk. Yes, for sure. I watched it at the George, I think, in London Bridge. Yeah, that's a good spot. Oh my God. That's a good spot. More beer on the floor than in people's mouth.
9:58Yeah, the George is a good spot Sunday for the World Cup. I watched, what was I watching there? The World Cup? The Euros? Yeah, I can't remember. Champions League? Premier League? Football, which is what I was watching. Okay, right. Just trying to let you know that my knowledge is quite high. I know a lot about it. We've got an event coming up, haven't we? Yes, we do. So we're actually doing a viewing at Batch. Seven Dials. Seven Dials, yeah, on the 17th of June. It'll be quite fun. Yeah, it'll be cool. Yeah, Batch team are good guys as well. And they're mad into their sport. And have a lot of athletes, actually, that are dressed in their suits.
10:33so I'm sure they'll have oh sick I didn't know that yeah yeah yeah they dress a lot and they dress a lot of football presenters as well so I would guess I can't guarantee this there'll obviously be SL men there but I would guess there's probably a couple of cool faces down there sick I'm not gonna lie five days later I'm gonna go watch in person so which game are you going to? I'm going to Algeria versus Jordan in San Francisco wow that'd be good I am buzzing but the flight is so long have you been to San Francisco before? I've been to California yeah I have 14 hours yeah it's long yeah
11:08right what we what have we found fashion wise anything you've been shopping or is on your wish list well i found these um clogs that went on my feet yeah did you and then i told adam about it and he went and bought them they are honestly the most comfortable pair of shoes they're actually for gardening who actually had them first no i did i didn't yeah no no adam i'll let you have it Adam told me about them. I mean, it might not be a flex like on this. It might not be a flex because they're quite polarizing, I think. They are. Maybe you did find them. I just think they're the most comfortable pair of shoes I've owned in a long time.
11:43And they're so easy. They go so much as well. Good for the summer, but also good for the winter because they're basically a jelly shoe that covers your toes. So it's like today it's raining. No wet feet. No wet feet. No wet feet. Nothing seeping through these e-soles. I can't say I'm sold yet. but I'm going to try with the shorts on and then that's been, I'm going to look like, wow, these are sick. Okay. So you found and you're loving the gardening shoes. Love them. Anything you've bought recently ads? I went to Brut archives in Paris. They're basically like they started off, I think, just sourcing amazing vintage.
12:14Okay. And then I guess like saw a market to create their own brand around that. So everything that they sell is vintage inspired or has come through their shop as vintage and then they've just kind of made runs of like so they do barber jackets that they basically just buy um wax jackets from all over the world and then they patchwork them back together and then sell that as their range um so yeah really cool place yeah yeah really cool it's just it's just like a really nice store as well like kind of feels concept but there's lots in there that's just there's really wearable as well how much you're talking for one of these patched jackets oh i don't know the jackets are quite expensive but when i went there i bought um a sweatshirt which was like 120 but which i think like you know if you're buying from zara h &m it's a little bit more than that but but the quality is amazing it's done really well anything else been loving a watch from um casio but what's nice about it is it's like i guess in a world with especially in the watch world where it's all kind of about luxury and prestige um it's nice that This is sort of a 30 pound watch.
13:20It's called the MQ249B. And I saw it because Tyler Creator wore it on a launch for something he did. It's just nice. It's a cheap watch to throw on. Looks really cool. I've got a couple of Casios. Yeah. I think everyone's got a couple of Casios. I had a Casio at school. You know, the black one. Yeah. It's like 10 pounds. That's what it looks like. It looks like something you go to school with like a few years ago. But it's just cool. I mean, what's nice about it is the face. It's kind of like inspired by like military watches. Okay. So it's like a nice patina face with interesting dial. but then the straps rubber just cheap rubber strap i mean they're cool because they're a casio right like a casio like if you just got a chill outfit on and a casio kind of works it's like the anti watch which can be cool i think sometimes i had a g-shock yeah i had a g-shock i remember going to florida when i was eight and my dad buying a g-shock yeah like chunky like a tank yeah they were so popular when i was at school yeah maybe i'm gonna try and find my cassia I wonder what that modern G-Shocks look like they must be the same they would not have changed I don't think no what have I been buying airport purchases I'm an airport shopper really oh yeah what you just go to airports yeah I just go on a lot of chance yeah I mean and I'm always late for my flights but I always manage to buy something but you must be going to some really nice terminals because not every terminal has great shops yeah because like T5 is great yeah obviously you have the designer that's where I was I'm a man that knows there's terminals there is I do I fly a lot why is that funny just man that knows his terminals because Gatwick north and south are terrible yeah it's true no you're right at least not their game you actually make a good point some airports actually have nothing to buy I got some really nice Paul Smith swim shorts with the classic Paul Smith colours on the drawstring that's cool and then the little detail from the airport yeah and I thought reasonable for Paul Smith 75 pounds so Decent.
15:1475 pounds of swim shorts. You can go much higher than that for like. These are waterproof ones. These ones you can wear in the pool. Right.
15:26Anyway, I thought they were cool. And I brought a little Paul Smith bracelet as well, which actually I did have on, but I took it off for our boxing class. Oh, fine. Which was quite cool. It's just classic Paul Smith colors. I love that Paul Smith. Yeah. It's cool. They've got such a strong brand and heritage. It's been going for such a long time. Yeah. I definitely go to head to more towards the like Bottegas of the shops when I'm in the terminal. Okay. What was your last airport purchase? My last airport purchase. Oh, it was the bag. I bought a BB bag in Italy. As in like an actual non-food purchase.
16:01And here's the man saying. What do you mean non-food? Mocking me for 75 pounds. I know. I know. Yeah, but this bag will last me a lifetime, right? True. Those swim shorts you'll probably wear and then... No, they'll stay. So you cost per wear, you've got it. Your call has been forwarded to voicemail. Hi, this is Zoe Deutsch. And Nick Robinson. Our brand new movie, Voicemails for Isabel, is all about those little moments that feel like the universe is looking out. Feeling homesick, then your sister calls. Hearing that perfect song exactly when you need it. Please stay. Sometimes life rigs things in our favor, like learning about your new favorite rom-com voicemails for Isabel only on Netflix June 19th.
16:45Absolutely not.
16:50Right, gents. Celebs, sports, culture. Give me some news that's caught your eye. Well, we have the return of Conor McGregor in the UFC. How many times returned Conor McGregor? I know. Well, he's not. I think it's his five years out now, something like that. Wow. Since he broke his leg, yeah. And then obviously, I guess within that time, lots of scandal, lots of partying. So it'll be interesting to see which version of him turns up. He's also a lot bigger now than he was. His head is a lot bigger. Everything's a lot bigger. As in like muscly or just fat? Yeah, but he just... He's built up, but so I think he can't get down to the weight that he fought at.
17:32He doesn't look... He'll get down to well. Healthy, does he? No, I mean, I've not really sort of seen much of his content recently. Compared to just what, you know, when he was in his fight, his early fight career, he was obviously sly and quick and he's very athletic. Yeah, he doesn't look like that. You know, like stocky. Really? I've not seen what he looks like now. It's just fascinating, isn't it? You like love him or hate him, you can't not watch him. Yeah, he's just one of those characters. I was saying, I think, like, for this fight, people are getting quite nostalgic for that version of him.
18:00the version that I guess everybody enjoyed when he was fighting in those early days. But, you know, I think he's not that man anymore, especially because I think some of the stuff that's come out, you know, whether it's true or false, he's definitely a polarizing character. So it'd be interesting to see what he does. Not an easy task, is it? Max Holloway, no. Also, they're fighting at a weight above that Max usually fights at. So he's already got the speed. So he's just going to be, that added power, I think might wipe Conor out. I'm not sure. Did you ever watch his doc? It was like a documentary on him.
18:36Yeah, I think I did. Oh, this was a long time ago. Yeah, I think I did. Yeah. And it was like sort of behind the scenes look at when he was taking some of his big fights. Like, I know it sounds silly because old Conor McGregor is a long time ago, but he was so like just fun to watch. I mean, he's large part of why the UFC is what it is. Yeah, like probably, you know, the biggest part. Yeah. He was also just devastating. Like, you know, the way he would fight and he was beating people that were big names, you know, knocked Aldo out in 13 seconds, which I think is the thing that just, you know, propelled him.
19:12Mystic Mac. Mystic Mac, yeah. I mean, that's, I mean, that's, that kind of, they didn't have a character like that in the UFC before that was, you know, you need those people to kind of bring awareness to those things. And it's just gone, you know, it's gone through the roof. You wouldn't fancy being up against him in a press conference, would you? No way. With the way that he can talk. No, yeah, yeah. Just rips people apart. I'll just stay silent. Yeah. I was like, just talk at me. I'm not going to even flinch. Yeah. I would love to see you face off with Conor McGregor in a fight. And then the trash talk.
19:43In a fight? No, no, no. But like, if you're facing off, the trash talk between you two, he'd just be like. I'd probably cry. It's one of those. It's going to be a five in the morning jobby, but probably wake up to watch it. So much sport in the morning. yeah I think I will I'll be watching I've been lucky enough to interview two relatively high profile or actually no two very high profile celebs and both were legends so down to earth so easy going Gordon Ramsay being one you can check out the interview with him on SL Man he was so like professional but in a nice way he was getting the briefing from his team on the way down and he was getting everyone's name and then he came and shook everyone's hand so he's doing it you know he's doing the right way the right way but it didn't feel like yeah you could appreciate why he was doing it and that was to make everyone relaxed and actually mid-interview was hilarious there was i couldn't i think he was dressed like a builder but i think by the end of it we figured out he was a fishmonger as i'm interviewing gordon ramsay and his press team are all there so i'm a bit conscious not to waste their time this bloke walked past he's like my missus loves you he's like cheers mate thanks goes into this building and then comes back out and he's like can I get a photo and I'm like interviewing and I said just one minute and then Gordon's like ah fuck it come on then mate get in so there's now me this bloke in the middle and Gordon Ramsay posing for a photo mid interview and then he goes fucking hell you stink and he's like yeah I've been working with fish mate and he's like how many times do we do shower he's like I don't know once or something who said this to who Gordon Ramsay said it to the bloke he did he stank a fish I think he was a fishmonger yeah that is so funny but yeah he was just you know where does this picture exist yeah I need to get it have you seen it you haven't seen it yeah I don't know who has the he must have it this guy because he would oh it's his phone okay yeah oh such a shame yeah I haven't seen it how funny that you're in this picture he's like oh I wish this bloke weren't in it yeah oh shit because he has no idea who you are doesn't he no no of course not yeah we're like this like lads photo but I thought I thought he was really impressive it was at his crude olive oil launch I should probably say oh sick yeah we were invited which was actually a really cool launch i turned up thinking we were going to have lunch and we were having margaritas with a dash of olive oil on top and um all sorts going on with olive oil that i didn't expect and who was the other person you interviewed paul wesley oh nice wesley i think is probably the better way to say it vampire diaries um actor and in star trek and has launched his own bourbon which is called brothers bond okay which is because of him and in summerhalter who he um was on vampire diaries where they drank a lot of bourbon on screen and they said they used to do a thing once they finished on set they would go for one glass of bourbon a real glass of bourbon together to end the day and then they started cooking up and blending whiskey at home and turned it into their own brand and yeah they i interviewed him in because they're launching brothers bond into europe and again super chill that's a really cool story he's really you know really high profile actor hollywood actor and was the most relaxed guy ever had time for everyone he actually hosted the whiskey tasting to about 16 of us him and his girl or fiance super chill was not like didn't feel commercial it was just telling the story of the brand sat with everyone had a glass of whiskey he was a cool guy yeah what surprised me about it was that we had obviously we're in mykonos it's summer and you think of whiskey as like a drink in front of the file, right?
23:09Yeah. But we had a whiskey sour. We had a whiskey and fig cocktail. We had a whiskey and peach cocktail. So they were quite light and summery. And it was a nice way to drink whiskey. That's really cool. I drank a lot of it. I can imagine. Yeah. Go for it. Yeah, exactly.
23:27Right, Hot Topics. Let's hear them, boys. What have we got? Do you know what? I was just thinking recently how everything is just so optimized for us now kind of a bit of the magic of life maybe I'm just being really nostalgic for you know I guess like life when I was a child but everything just feels like because I was thinking where it came from where it came from was tell us the backstory where it came from was I was thinking about like when they had toys and cereal boxes and just how like magical that felt so what do they have now? nothing No toys and cereal boxes? No, nothing. And that blockbuster, that felt magical.
24:12Oh, yeah, but that, yeah, that was always going to come to an end, though. I know, I just, I guess, maybe I'm just being nostalgic. But it's kind of, it did get me thinking about how everything's, like, you know, Spotify tells you what you want to listen to. Yeah, true. TikTok shows you what you want to watch. And it just kind of feels like, you know, trapped in this optimisation. I agree. I'm sure my housemate won't watch this, but I tell him this anyway. so he he like is the man for optimization he's got everything dialed in you know his food preps done is what just everything is just aura rings things like that excuse me and i sometimes say even so how can i explain this even if by not optimizing you get a worse result there's still some sort of beauty in like figuring it out like for example i know that you want to prep your food on sunday so that you have it on wednesday but like just allow for a bit of life like what happens when you get to wednesday and i know that's a tiny example yeah no that's exactly what i'm talking about like the little things that if everything is organized optimized planned for then there's no like discovery there's no how do i feel on the day there's no emotion involved in anything anymore and i agree you kind of even if it means the end result is worse i'd still rather have that emotive freedom in that decision making but rather than a planned decision for me it kind of like makes me think like it can create like anxiety and yeah like it can really play with the mental health because you know let's just say like you create a routine where everything's optimized like that like you're saying like the prepping of the food and doing this and doing that and then looking at your aura ring and things like that it's like if one thing of if one part of that kind of falls out of whack i mean obviously it depends on the type of person you are but it it kind of throws your whole routine off.
25:56And if you don't leave room for like little bits of freedom in there or less optimization, then it can all feel a little bit too structured. I just, yeah. To expand it out of food prep, I think from some like substance behind it, just the way of living life, like people that you might meet or places that you might see, if you're going on holiday, do you need to have every single place booked in before you get there? Or should you just go where the wind takes you and, you know, to walk down a street that feels fun and busy. Like I think there has to be a bit of room for exploring, doesn't there?
26:31I mean, I guess what you're saying. You didn't like my holiday point, did you? I like a bit. I love that. Because all I would do go down holiday. I do love that, but I like a bit of both. I like to have like some dinners planned, some lunches planned, but I also like the freedom of doing whatever you want. So like if I'm going somewhere on holiday, I'm going because there are places that I've seen around the air that I want to go to. So I want to have those books planned. I don't agree with having every hour of the day planned to a T. no no no that you're like basically holiday prison then well not holiday prison but everything is so structured but I do holiday prison no I meant more like like I don't want to be tied down to like being at this place at this time yeah I got you I want to have a bit of freedom but when it comes to like things like awaring right I still was saying about the mental health stuff and like if you're not mentioned in the right place but at the same time there are so many positive things I do love about it for example the sleep thing right I didn't know I had awful sleep well I didn't know how awful sleep but I didn't know what that effect was or how to fix it now I can try and Have you got better sleep?
27:24How does it tell you how to fix it? Well, it just obviously tells you you have X hours of sleep and it'll tell you where your spikes are. So it'll say either sleep earlier or drink more water or throughout the day. So like it can give you things quickly without you having to wait and go to a doctor to find out what the results are. Do you know what I mean? So that's why I love it. And then these glasses, for example, right? So these are Raybametas. I can like literally tell my phone to text someone whilst I'm working without having to stop working. That's quite cool. so the efficiency is something so what would you do so you just say okay meta and it would say hello tunday and then you just say text x y and z to do this and it would go and send that text that's cool i didn't know they did that yeah that's pretty good and their prescription and then my prescription inside them as well that's quite cool and like they're also headphones too so i can play music on there and i can just be listening to music like this no headphones nothing listening to music in them is actually sick it is so good yeah or watching videos yeah i mean it's for efficiency.
28:23I like working smarter. I do get that. I do get that. I mean, we're talking about how we don't want it to be optimized. He's optimized up to the eyeballs, literally. My takeaway is just like, optimize for efficiency rather than overtaking everything because you want to be able to live your life like a normal person. There we go. We've solved it.
28:46Okay, so as always, with your dilemmas, we're going to try and be as helpful as we can be. Starting with, I got a bad haircut from my barber. Do I say anything to them or not? I say yes, but in a way that doesn't necessarily say my haircut is bad. I just tell them to fix X, Y, and Z. That's what I do. So I'll literally go to the mirror. I'll look in the mirror. I'll brush myself off. And I'll be like, cut here, cut here, cut here, cut here, cut here, cut here. But what if they've cut off too much? I don't really have too much to cut off, really, because it just all comes off. I think depends on the relationship with your barber do we all have someone that regularly cuts on yeah I've not moved I've only ever gone somewhere for like a commercial thing here so I think it's probably easier to ask what would you do with your barber I would tell him yeah yeah straight up yeah you fucked up because sometimes when I used to didn't have this shorter I used to have the hair longer here and he'd go really far back I've got receding hairline I don't know if you can tell and it would look really weird when he cut it and I'd be like what the fuck have you done to the point where he'd have to cut it all off to make it start again so I would tell him Add your barber how long have you had your barber about a year I probably would but I do similar to what you do where it's kind of I mean but I'd start by asking for something that I knew wouldn't go too short and then just kind of be like can I have that bit a bit short but if it was like horrendous and it got to the end no I probably wouldn't say anything I'd just be like yeah so how would you fix it I wouldn't I'd just have to grow a hat the whole time.

30:22I'd definitely say if it was obviously wrong, but my hair kind of always looks similar. I think if it was a little bit wrong where I've probably gone home and then the next few days thought, you know what? I don't love this. Then just the next time I'd go in, I'd say, oh, can we make sure we do it like this? Oh, fine. Bring him up. Hey, I'm not liking this. Yeah, actually on second thoughts. So I think if you have a good relationship with your barber, it's worth saying because I presume you plan to stay there. Yeah. So the longer you stay with someone, the more feedback you give them, the better they're going to get a cut in your hair.
30:54It is. It's just that point though, where it's like, what's done is done and you can't change it too much. It's like, I kind of think, oh, what's the point? Because you can't change it. So it's just going to be like, and then maybe the next time you go in, you could be like, oh, last time it was a bit too short. Yeah. Instead of doing it on the spot. I agree with that. Or yeah, or you could say next time, can we just leave this a bit longer? Yeah. The limit solved. Talk to your barber and stay loyal. yeah communication is key i'm 35 and want to wear a football shirt to the pub this summer for the world cup at what age does somebody become too old to wear a football shirt i don't think there's i don't think there is a real age to cap that i mean it's the world cup then yeah it's fine yeah i guess if it's not the world cup it depends like i don't know like you'd look cool in a in a football oh i know i'd look cool in a football talk cheers um for you showing me um so why are we suggesting that you just need to style a football shirt I think yeah or I think it's where are you wearing it to should be more like I feel like if you're wearing it to watch a football game fine but if you're just wearing it out to just go to the pub or just go to a funeral or something like that then why would you wear a football top do you know what I mean I think like some people just love to wear a football top and wear it to every waking moment it does depend on the top as well I think so what top is good I'm thinking that you wouldn't wear a top than one or a PSG one in North London I think how would you style a football top no okay so like you've gone to you've got an England football shirt like you're a 35 year old guy can you just rock that with a pair of jeans yeah oh I don't know I'm quite preppy I'd wear like ripped jean short loafers socks maybe like a 40 year old man yeah but I feel like style shouldn't necessarily be with your age because you guys are a lot older than me and you dress the same as me I'm younger than you alright so sorry sorry Sorry You're older than me And you dress sick Do you know what I mean Like you dress really cool Thanks mate We just compliment each other I'm undecided on this one What's clocked him I can't really I can't really make my mind up I mean I don't really Mind anyone wearing Whatever they want But Yeah I wouldn't say it's stylish But like If you're going But if it's like a retro top Like for example The yellow JVC Arsenal top I love so much That's what I mean.
33:11It depends on the top. I've just seen it done so badly. Yeah. I'm just, I think, haunted by those. I'm now thinking about it and I'm haunted by it. But I've also seen it done really well. So it's like, I think, wouldn't it not be cool if like, say like a retro England top for the World Cup, a pair of Taylor trousers, some loafers could be cool. So you have to pick your battles. You either style it cool or you accept that you just look like a dad wearing a football shirt. Literally, yeah. You make your bed, you lie in it. Yeah. Don't think any of us care what you do. You can wear what you want at any age, but you either style it cool or you just take the opinion of like, I've just thrown a football shot on because I'm going to the pub to watch football.
33:47Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think the context of that makes sense. Like if you're going to watch it, then I mean, obviously it's fine at any age. My girlfriend is still friends with her ex. They don't meet one-on-one, but they message fairly regularly and he's part of a wider friendship group. Should I be okay with this or am I right to find it uncomfortable? I think you're right to find it uncomfortable. Yeah. Yeah, I would be the same. We'd all be uncomfortable, right? I mean, what are you messaging about? Yeah. Do you really need to be doing that? I mean, you just, again, it just comes down to communication at this point.
34:19Like, just be transparent. I'm not saying they necessarily need to go and look into their phone, but like, if you have the question or the thought, what's going on here, you should be allowed to ask and they should be able to tell you without having to like hide about it or not have to defend themselves about it. I think as long as also they're aware that that's a relationship that they've got that's going to make their partner feel uncomfortable. That's my... Yeah. And, you know, then you're right, like, either talk about it and I think from both sides that the communication has to be good or sack him off.
34:53This guy's girlfriend must be aware enough to know that that makes something else, yeah. her boyfriend feel uncomfortable and then you just shouldn't do it because you understand that. Like, why would you do something that makes your partner feel uncomfortable? Just sack him off. I've been invited to a wedding and given a plus one. I've only been dating someone for six weeks is it too soon to bring them? Yes No Six weeks Depends how you feel about them No No It's not enough time No way Six weeks I'm all up for like big dates soon Like I suppose actually six weeks No I'm up for them Six weeks I think the sort of I'm thinking about the time That's January to the second week of Feb I don't know 100 % Thanks No no I'm all in for stuff like that Yeah maybe that's Sorry I think it's fun you think it's fun yeah but then it's all about what about what if you do break up or you look together and all those memories of that wedding is now you it's fun that's the only thing isn't it where's the negative in that you're like yeah I was dating this girl she was cool I brought her to a wedding she broke your heart she's here on you still it wasn't my wedding I'll switch back again actually I'm back to my original answer because I agree with Frankie so will you invite her yeah it's fun oh no no no no I'd rather go by myself what are you worried about weddings are great fun you could go weddings are great fun but like weddings are also times where I like to like to go back to and think about memories right if I've gone to this wedding with someone who I am no longer with right after six weeks that memory is now going to be tarnished especially if it doesn't end in the way that is like I'd be like I do get it second date especially because the weddings that I go to are people that I'm really close with right and they're like they're like my family this person for six weeks is not going to be part of my family maybe it depends on the wedding if it was like Yeah, if it was like a second, second, second cousin's wedding.
36:39Yeah, it's like that would be a bit of fun. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Maybe, yeah. But I'm not my best friend or like my sister's wedding. I'm not going to bring someone to be there for six weeks. What's tough away on that? Oh, I'm all for it. Okay. Yeah. No, no, no. Final one. My partner's been offered their dream job abroad. We've been together a year. Do we try long distance or call it a day before things get messy? Oh, no. That's tough. I think call it a day. I think try it. Yeah, surely. Yeah, it's close. I'm not good at long distance. I don't think. I will try. And I have tried. But what am I now?
37:13Still single. Words of wisdom.
37:20There's not much to lose in trying, right? No, there's not much to lose in trying at all. I think like it's worth giving a go for a bit because I think it's going to be, it's not going to be forever. And then if it is forever, then you can make plans to be like, okay, maybe do we see our lives here? Yeah, I guess actually. It's worth supporting, I think. Supporting your partner in doing that. Thinking it through. For them to not work then, you know, suck it off. Thinking it through, you do need a plan though, don't you? Yeah, you need a plan. Because nobody wants to be long distance forever. So if they've got their dream job and they've gone abroad.
37:53What's your plan? What's the plan? Are you going to go, are they going to come back in a year? I don't think anybody wants to sign themselves up for long distance forever. No, that's true. I mean, relationships aren't all about sex, right? However. It helps. Yes. It's really important, right? And if you are long distance, what do you do with your sex drive? How do you have sex? Phone calls. Phone calls. No, I need the physical touch. I could not do phone calls. I could not do phone calls. A relationship has to be built on that. Yeah, yeah, yeah. The intimacy is so important, right? I agree. So that's something that I think I would struggle with.
38:27Yeah, yeah. No, I agree with that. I mean, it would be really difficult to do. Yeah, 100%. just whether or not I mean I think because the question says do they sack it off now right I wouldn't do that I wouldn't sack it off I'd give it a go but like I said plan every two weeks maybe optimise optimise yeah you can get those Bluetooth sex toys can't you oh my god the ones you can control from your phone from far away yeah yeah yeah I think you can control one in New York can you yeah yeah I think you can yeah so it's via an app connect it to wifi so like you're on the app and then they're obviously on the app It's dangerous.
39:01And their app links to their sex type. That's dangerous. You've got no idea where they are. Obviously, it's not inside them all the time, though. Yeah, you can't just rev them up. Oh, yeah. Yeah, but that would be... Whenever you fancy it. You know, make it fun. On that note, we'll wrap it up, shall we? Yeah. That was fun. Thanks for tuning in. This week on the SL Man Podcast, Frankie is joined by Adam and Tunde, and we’re covering everything from cult footwear to comeback kings.
First up: the gardening clogs that have somehow become the most talked-about shoes in our wardrobes. Are they hideous? Are they genius? All we know is they might be the most comfortable things we’ve ever worn - and yes, we’re fully leaning in.
We also get into the return of Conor McGregor. The Mac is apparently back. After years out of the octagon, controversy, reinvention and serious bulk, what version of McGregor are we getting - and are we here for it? Love him or hate him, he’s still one of sport’s most polarising figures.
Then it’s onto a bigger conversation: have we optimised our lives too much? From AI algorithms to sleep trackers and food prep routines, are we squeezing out the magic of discovery in the name of efficiency?
Plus, World Cup fever hits London, we talk about SL Man's upcoming viewing party, fashion x sport collaborations, and tackle your dilemmas - from bad barber experiences to wearing football shirts in your 30s. It’s a good one. Enjoy!
