Key claims
- Real Madrid crisis is driven by divisions (especially between Mbappé and Vinícius) and finger-pointing after poor results; media is blamed for inflaming it.
- Mbappé said Álvaro Arbeloa told him he’s the “fourth choice forward” behind Gonzalo Mastantuono and Vinícius; Arbeloa denied saying it.
- Relegation “finals” include Mallorca–Levante (loser likely goes down; draw could send both) and Sevilla–Real Madrid (Sevilla’s need may have faded).
Notable examples
- Midweek results: Real Madrid beat Real Oviedo 2-0; Rio Ave safe; Valencia, Girona, Real Sociedad, and others won.
- Specific match predictions: Atleti–Girona (Atleti win), Elche–Getafe (Elche–Getafe draw), Levante–Mallorca (Levante win), Sevilla–Real Madrid (draw or Sevilla draw), Barcelona–Betis (Barcelona win).

1:34Sid Lowe:Hi everybody, welcome to this week's Preview Pod. It's me, Al, with Cid's this morning. Hello Cid, how are you? Good morning Al, how did I get on last week? Do you know what Cid, confession time. Normally, while you and Phil record the Preview Pod, I make a note of each prediction, so we've got them there to look at as the weekend unfolds. last week i was actually doing other things while you were recording wasn't listening never went back and checked so i've got no idea maybe a listener can get in touch okay 10 out of 10 100 records incredible quite a turnaround well done but no look as you flop yeah i'm what sorry for any small children listening um i'm not making fun of you anymore uh ever since me and Kittrow had to do the predictions and we did even worse than than you and we're talking match day 37 in La Liga all the games being played on Sunday nine of them being played simultaneously one being played two and a quarter hours later and we'll get to that in a second first seat just a quick reflection on the end of midweek match day 36 we had three games yesterday which we haven't discussed the other games were talked about on the bonus pod for patrons with you and Kittrow but last night we had Valencia won, Rio won, Girona won, Real Sociedad won and at the Bernabeu, Real Madrid 2, Real Oviedo 0.
2:57Sid Lowe:Now, I mean, the real excitement is at the bottom of the table in the relegation battle, which continues to be absolutely fascinating and some big results in midweek. Rio are now safe, mathematically, which is good news for Kittrow. Sid, both you and I were at the Bernabeu. I was there for ESPN. You were there along with many, many, many fans of Real Oviedo. I can't tell you how many Oviedo shirts I saw outside the grounds before the game and inside, of course, as well. The fans making a lot of noise. It was great to see that. We won't go too much into your experience of being there as a fan because you did a diary for patrons over at patreon.com forward slash TSFP.
3:35Sid Lowe:You sent me about 56 voice notes telling us about your experience. And at some point, I will put it together. It's a bank holiday here in the city of Madrid today at San Isidro, so the kids are off school. It's quite a busy day, but I'll get around to that at some point. We do need to talk about quite incredible stuff from Kylian Mbappé after the game. Mbappé, who was whistled really loudly by the crowd. Now, normally, Sid, you and I are all over the post-match pressers and mix zone at the Bernabeu for work. Last night, it just so happens, you were there as a fan, and I had to go on air for ESPN immediately on the final whistle, So I wasn't in Arbeloa's presser and I wasn't in the mix zone.
4:15Sid Lowe:And then I was told all about what had happened. Mbappe, who, like I say, had been loudly whistled, came out in the mix zone and said that he'd been told by Arbeloa. He said, the coach has told me I'm the fourth choice forward behind Gonzalo, Mastantuono and Vinny. He then, you know, the usual platterstutes, I'm not angry. It's the coach's decision. You have to respect the coach's decision. I'm, you know, I'll have to work hard to win back my place. But those words, the coach told me, I'm the fourth choice forward, were explosive. They were then, minutes later, put to Alvaro Abelhoa in his news conference.
4:53Sid Lowe:Abelhoa, who hadn't heard this and was sort of learning of this for the first time, I think, in the presser. Abelhoa denied it, said, I didn't say that. He must have misunderstood me. He must have misinterpreted what I said. He said it was the logical thing to do, given the fact that he hadn't played in the Clásico, to start on the bench in this one. We've got another game on Sunday, he said. He'll start then for sure. I mean, that choice, the fact that Mbappe, I don't think that he says anything by accident. I think he's a very smart guy who chooses his words carefully. What's your analysis of what Mbappe said?
5:25Sid Lowe:And then our belowist response as well. My analysis of this, Al, is it's all our fault.
5:29Alex Kirkland:It's the media's fault. Please do tell us how it's all of our fault, how this crisis at Real Madrid is purely because the media is out to get you and it's all a conspiracy. That's my analysis of this. Thank you very much. Off we go. I mean, I just think, you know, it's another indication of something that we've been saying, which is that the departure of Xabi Alonso was seen by some people as a lost opportunity.
5:51Sid Lowe:I think Mbappé was clearly one of those. I mean, I should say he said he said that again in the mixed zone as well. He was asked about Xabi. He basically said, I really like Xabi. Everybody knows that. He said in the first half of the season, I'll quote it because I've got it here. In the first half of the season, we had a playing style, a structure, and we lost it. That hurts.
6:11Alex Kirkland:Yeah. And I think what this tells you is that some of those divisions that we've been talking about were there already. Some of them were created by the departure of Alonso and some of them were exacerbated by the departure of Alonso, which then, of course, become exacerbated even more when things start to fall apart under Álvaro Álvaro. Now, for what it's worth, I think Álvaro Álvaro is entirely in the right yesterday. Yesterday. And Mbappé is entirely in the wrong. Álvaro quite rightly says, if you weren't fit enough to even be in the squad four days ago, how do you start tonight? And Mbappé, I agree with you.
6:40Alex Kirkland:I think he's bright. I don't think he says things by accident. That said, I think he's done a few things recently that suggest he's not quite as bright as we first thought, or at least he is more provocative and destructive than we first thought, perhaps is a better way of putting it. And for whatever reason, he's decided to go down that route. I think this tells us something about the division. I think this comes in the context of something very, very, very important, which is that Florentino Pedeth the night before had said that Embape is our best player and Vinicius is one of our best players.
7:08Alex Kirkland:It's not the same thing. I think it's feeling increasingly like the division between those two players, which I am not even convinced is about a frontal division between those two players. I think it's about different postures and a different sense of who you back if you think that these two players don't really work together. And I think all of the evidence so far is that they don't work together. Now, that's not to say in the future that with the right manager, with the right structure that it couldn't work, but it doesn't. And I think what Emma Paye did yesterday is very, very incendiary. I think what Arbala responded to him was the response of a manager who's deeply disappointed, who has also, in truth, been disappointing because the results haven't been good with him.
7:47Alex Kirkland:I think what Emma Paye says about the structure is broadly true, actually. And I think what it tells you is that there's a real problem and that this is lots and lots of people pointing the finger at each other as things start to collapse. Now, what happens, obviously, is this process begins at the end of an era, in this case, a managerial era or a season or a sense of this is a project that is now going to be ripped up and started again. Of course, these kind of problems don't necessarily need to continue into next season if it's dealt with, if it's handled and if it's managed in the right way.
8:21But right now, as it falls apart, to use the obvious metaphor, as the ship starts to sink, people start to abandon and point the fingers at whose fault it was, who it was that didn't see that absolutely enormous iceberg.
8:33Alex Kirkland:And so you can have people, shall I murder this metaphor a bit more? You can have people playing the violins on the deck as it goes down and saying there's nothing to see here and there's no problem here. But mostly you have people trying to save themselves and trying to blame others. And that is what is happening. and that tells you something about the divisions, but the divisions are exacerbated, of course, by the situation they're in. If they had somehow got through this and were winning, then some of those divisions would have been mitigated. Some of those divisions wouldn't have come out and this wouldn't look as bad.
9:02Alex Kirkland:But internally, there would still be some of these fault lines. But again, I think the most important conclusion is to say that it's the media's fault.
9:11Sid Lowe:Okay, good. Yeah, we listened to Mbappe's words and we communicated them to our audience. Okay, let's move on to Matchday 37. But that was, like I say, pretty explosive stuff from Mbappé. So I had to start the pod talking about it. On Sunday, Seeds, which game are you going to be attending?
9:29Alex Kirkland:Well, I mean, we're going to be attending Sevilla Real Madrid, which I'll be honest with you, I thought was the right decision. With the results in this week, it may well not be the right decision because Sevilla's 3-2 victory against Villarreal puts them on 43 points and puts them very much in a position of almost safety. In fact, I think it's plausible that Sevilla lose their remaining two games and still survive. I think it's plausible that 43 is enough anyway. Had they not won that game, and I know you all know how a league table works, they'd be on 40 points, but let me explain what that would have meant.
9:59Alex Kirkland:From 19th upwards, it would have gone 39, 39, 39, 40, 40, 40. And Sevilla would very, very definitely have been it. And that, of course, is huge, a club that big. As it turns out, I think the game of the weekend is Mallorca-Levante. And do you know what I'm going to do now, Al? Do you know what I'm going to do now? Yeah. I'm going to break my own rules. You know that one of the things I rail against, one of the things I rage against, is the use of the word final for big games. But I'll tell you what, this is about as close. This is about as close as it gets. I'm going to say this now. The team that loses this game goes down.
10:36Alex Kirkland:The team that loses this game goes down. And I think if they draw, they both go down.
10:42Sid Lowe:Yeah, it's massive. It's massive. But anyway, you're going to be at Sevilla. I'm going to be at Atleti Girona commentating the game with Kittro for the La Liga World feed. What a treat that's going to be. Yeah, I know.
10:53Alex Kirkland:And that turns out to be massive because Girona is still in trouble. Yeah. Although I think that's a lot of fun. I think the size floor is big for them though, don't you? Haven't commentated with Kittro for a long time.
11:02Sid Lowe:So looking forward to that. Anyway, let's run through these games. I've got them open here on my La Liga app. I think we'll go through just in more or less alphabetical order, because as I say, nine of the games are kicking off simultaneously. okay sit put your prediction hats on here we go i'm starting off with athletic club against celta
11:22Alex Kirkland:well do you know what i think these are two teams who've given up now um yeah um and it's weird that athletic have given up because they're only one point behind real softy dad um they're only four points behind getafe but you know and esto valverde said it after the the defeat against espanol he said this is inexplicable it's inexplicable how bad they are um so i think this is one of those where they just play it's a 3-3 draw this game actually no i can't i can't see athletic scoring three i can see celtic scoring three um uh what should we go for let's go for let's go for celtic to win 3-2 celtic to win 3-2 so that because the because
12:07Sid Lowe:the shackles are off, it sounds like it's going to be fun. I'm just going to make a note of these predictions. No, two-two.
12:14Alex Kirkland:I've changed mine. Two-two.
12:16Sid Lowe:So that we know what they were. Okay, so it's gone for a draw. Next up, the game that Kitra and I are going to be at, Atleti against Girona at the Metropolitan. Like you say, a big deal for Girona. For Atleti, this is the last home game for Antoine Griezmann.
12:30Alex Kirkland:Yeah, and I think that the quality of the Atletico Madrid side, the fact that it's a last home game, the fact that it actually does matter for them a little bit and the pressure that Girona are under. Three weeks ago, I'd have said Girona go there and they get something because, of course, we've seen that with Atletico playing a B team and all that sort of stuff. I think Atletico win this and I think it will be down to Girona, Elche on the final day, which really could be a final. Woof! Sid, you've let loose. You're just dropping finals left-right centre. Finals all over the place, but I'm going for Atletico home win.
13:07Alex Kirkland:I'm making a note of this one hour because, you know, I thought I should just in case. We're doubling up now, having not. Having allowed me to lie and pretend I got 10 out of 10 last week. Yeah.

14:20Alex Kirkland:You don't wash your jersey during a win streak. You don't switch seats when your team's up big. And you definitely don't shave during the playoffs. When things are working, you don't change them. That's why when you drink Jägermeister, you drink it ice cold. Anything else? Well, that'd just be bad luck. Drink it cold or don't drink it at all. Jägermeister. Damn, that's cold. Drink responsibly. Jägermeister liqueur, 35 % alcohol by volume. Imported by Mass Jägermeister, U.S. White Plains, New York.
14:50Sid Lowe:Next up, a team who are very much in trouble against one with European aspirations, Elche against Getafe. and very much a clash of style as well.
15:00Alex Kirkland:I mean, about as clear-cut a clash of style. And I also think, by the way, two managers who sort of don't like each other very much, partly because they're so wedded to the style, and partly because in Bordelassi's case, he really dislikes people pointing out the, shall I use the word that everyone's using these days, which I find baffling, the harem ball football of Getafe. When did we stop calling it shithousery? I preferred shithousery to harem ball.
15:22Sid Lowe:I think that's, well, I think it's not quite the same thing, I think. I think shithousery applies more to the kind of... I think harem ball is more how you play football. Shithousery is more the off-the-ball stuff. Do you know what I mean?
15:36Alex Kirkland:It's what the Spanish refer to as the other football, elodrom football, whereas harem ball is actually the football. It's just the way that you play it.
15:43Sid Lowe:I mean, look, I'm happy to be corrected, but I kind of... So, Xhidave are both.
15:49Alex Kirkland:They're both harem ball and shithousery. They're just bordelas, pure distilled bordelas. Do you know what? I think Elche are in trouble. And I think this finishes with a draw. And then Elche would have that incredible final on the final day.

16:08Sid Lowe:Yeah, I was asked to predict my sort of two teams to go down last night on ESPN. I went for Elche. I think Elche and Mallorca, I said.
16:15Alex Kirkland:Yeah, I mean, you know, as I say, we have got these two finals. I'm dropping the final bomb everywhere. We have got these two finals. And it's, wow, it's big, isn't it? Well, let's talk about the big one. that side of the season, isn't it? Go on, tell me about it.
16:29Sid Lowe:Let's talk about the big one, Levante against Mallorca, which you have said is absolutely a ginormous final.
16:36Alex Kirkland:I think there is this terrible tragedy of the fact that Levante have been so amazing recently and it still might not be enough. You know, they've won the last two.
16:47Sid Lowe:Yeah, remember the last game was a 3-2 win away at Celta, a comeback win as well.
16:52Alex Kirkland:It's two 3-2s in a row. Two 3-2s in a row. So they've won the last two. They've won four of the last six. They've won five of the last seven. They've actually, if I go back even further, they've won six of the last nine. This is a team that has only won four times the entire season until then.
17:09Sid Lowe:There's a league table that I think, I don't know the date that you start from, but there's a table that puts them in sort of Champions League qualification based on the last couple of months.
17:18Alex Kirkland:I think I'm right in saying that that is the date that Luis Castor took over. Yeah, yeah, that's right. It's just phenomenal what he's done. It's funny, you know, because you listen to him talk and you don't immediately see it. He's very calm. Maybe that's a good thing. Structurally, I'm not entirely sure what they are because, in fact, if you listen to Della, who scored... If you look at the last two games, by the way, you've seen some really weird goals.
17:45Sid Lowe:That Della goal is terrific. I remember he used to score quite a few goals like that when he was a kid. I used to watch him playing for Real Madrid's Academy. and he was a bit of a goal scorer when he was young. So he's got that in his locker, but he is a, I mean, he smacks it in from miles out.
17:59Alex Kirkland:Yeah, miles out. And then the one from the previous game is a long shot, which the goalie makes you an absolutely absurd mess of. But anyway, Della said after the game, which I quite liked, he said, I think I preferred it before when we weren't conceding. Because if you look at it, you've got two free twos in a row and then they were battered 5-1 by Villarreal. Look at the games before that, a nil-nil draw, a two-nil win, a one-nil win. And so here I am trying to analyse them. So these are different teams. And I suppose in a way, it's the madness of the situation they're in, the fact they've got to go for it.
18:29Alex Kirkland:I think also we are seeing now in truth, and I don't want to take away the madness or take away the achievement of some of the smaller teams that are starting to pick up amazing amounts of points. But I also think we're seeing a lot of teams abdicating at this stage of the season. And I think that's making a big difference. You know, for example, Alaves were not in this position or would not be in this position had they not just played a Barcelona team that had just been on a bus. pissed up going around the city celebrating a title. That would not have happened. You know, Atletico Madrid have played a part in this.
18:56Alex Kirkland:Villarreal basically stopped playing. Kittcher and me were talking about this in the podcast yesterday at 2-0 up against Sevilla and lost 3-2. But all of that said, the point I'm trying to get is I'm not actually sure what to think of Levante in terms of analysing who they are and how they play. Mallorca, I think this is the other thing, that Mallorca are a bit like Levante. You're saying Levante are looking at this and thinking, wow, if we're having this amazing reaction, we still might not survive. Mallorca had their amazing reaction. They won three out of four. What's that, about a month ago?
19:27Alex Kirkland:Who did they beat? They beat Espanyol and they beat Real Madrid and they beat, I think it was Rio, wasn't it? Now, I know they won a couple of games ago against Girona, but actually the trend is the last five games, only one win. So suddenly they're back in it, having thought they got free. And I think that's part of the problem is this is a real mental process as much as anything else. Of teams sort of there, not there, nothing to lose, go for it. oh, hang on, maybe we're now back in it. I mean, even Oviedo five weeks ago, I was thinking, well, you know, if we just string together a couple, maybe it'll happen.
19:56Alex Kirkland:And I think in that sense, Levante are in a better position. Luis Castro said, I really quite like this, but I also felt like saying to him, mate, I'm sorry, you're probably wrong. He said, it's not just Levante people who think we don't deserve to go down. It's everyone in football. And actually over the recent weeks, he is right. But you know what? A lot of people in football are desperate for you to go down because it's their own survival on the line as well. Anyway, having given you that massively long preamble, I am going home win. Levante have a chance to survive, but maybe not have enough of a chance.
20:29Alex Kirkland:In other words, on the final weekend, maybe they still go down. That would put them on 41 points. The final game of the season for Levante, I believe, is away at Betis, who have nothing to play for, but are a good team and are at home and final game of the season and so on. But I think this one, Levante win, and we have such a ding-dong. the final day of the season? Such a ding-dong. Do you know who New Yorker's last game is?
20:55Sid Lowe:Tell me before I look.
20:56Alex Kirkland:Real Oviedo at home. So I'm kind of hoping that the really big story on the final day of New Yorker...
21:02Sid Lowe:Can I revise my prediction about New Yorker going down?
21:05Alex Kirkland:I hadn't realised. No, but I've known. See, what I'm thinking, entirely selfishly, I wonder if I can get my bosses to agree that, yeah, they're really big. That's the big one. On the final season is New Yorker against Real Oviedo. so I can at least be there.
21:19Sid Lowe:Yeah, okay. Next up, a less important game, Rayo v Real.
21:24Alex Kirkland:Yeah, this is a game that doesn't matter for anyone. Will they let loose and just score loads of goals? V Real might, although V Real don't really let loose. It's not really what they do. Rayo, I think, will probably play some of their first-team players in this, but obviously not all of them. I think they will play none of their first-team players on the final day of the season, which is why I think Alaves will survive. because they've just had Barcelona. They're about to have Oviedo, then they get Rayo. And I think that's why Alaves are in a really good position now, which isn't saying it's guaranteed.
21:55Alex Kirkland:I don't know what to say about this. I think I'm going to go for an away win. An away win. Yeah. Yeah.
22:05Sid Lowe:Okay, next up, L 'Areal against Valencia.
22:11Alex Kirkland:This has got draw written all over it, hasn't it? draw sort of suits them both although do you think Valencia are now thinking hang on a minute there's a European place to be had here
22:24Sid Lowe:I mean I'd say surely not but they are you know right now they're whatever it is two points off it or something if they win
22:30Alex Kirkland:they climb above Real Sofidad they might well also be climbing above Atletic and Real Vallecano if they win at the same time I'm not sure they're good enough to win even if they want to win if you see what I mean
22:45Alex Kirkland:I don't know Home win Home win Just because they're at home Your beloved Oviedo against Alaves I can't see anything other than a 0-0 in this But I think Alaves need it And need it enough So Muy amy pesado as they say Very much in spite of myself I'm going away win in this one
23:08Sid Lowe:So you can't see anything but a 0-0 draw But you're going for an away win
23:11Alex Kirkland:Yeah, because under normal circumstances, I'll say, look, this is going to be, you know, it's going to be terrible. But Alaves need it. And Alaves know this is win this and Alaves are basically safe. OK. So, yeah, away win, away win.
23:24Sid Lowe:Also, Suna Español. You were writing about Español, weren't you, this midweek and about Manolo Gonzalez's tears, the coach?
23:31Alex Kirkland:Well, because the response was extraordinary. And I linked it in. I actually, that column, I ended up cutting out seven or 800 words genuinely, because what I did was I used Manolo Gonzalez's point about the pressure and everything to bring in what I've just been talking about, to bring in Luis Castro, to bring in Luis Garcia. Now, I left a bit of those two in there, but I had loads from those two, which maybe I'll save up for another day, because I spoke to Luis Garcia about this. This line is in there. He said, you know, I speak to, I asked a friend about, I speak into a friend about it. He said, why would you get involved in this you know con lo con lo tranquilo que estabas en casa you know given how relaxed you were at home taking it easy why would you get involved in this madness because the pressure and i just let me throw in a bit of humanity into this podcast you know the pressure for those guys is unreal it's horrendous uh there was some nice stuff that quique sanche flores said about it although he's much cooler than the luis garcia is and that manolo gonzalez but they're under enormous enormous amounts of pressure.
24:32Alex Kirkland:Osasuna Espanyol, I don't know about you, this feels like biscotto to me. This feels like a draw will do us both, let's get a draw. Unless Osasuna is still clinging to the hope that they can get a European place. We should suppose they can. And a win, as I've just said about Valencia, a win would put them right up on the number of points that Ralsafinad have currently got. Yeah. Espanyol's final gain is home against Real Sociedad. A Spaniel must think they're going to get a point from one of these two games. They would obviously rather, and I think a point would be enough, they'd obviously rather it was Suna.
25:09Alex Kirkland:I'm going for a draw in this. I think a draw probably suits them both. But if I had to lean one way, it would be towards Osasuna.
25:17Sid Lowe:Okay. And the last of the seven o 'clock kickoff Spanish time, the game that you'll be at, Sevilla against Real Madrid. And I just don't know.
25:26Alex Kirkland:I think Sevilla's need to win this was probably enough I think that need has probably gone I think they will play like they've got that need I think Real Madrid won't play with any need whatsoever So I think we'll see a very, very different approach But I think a little bit as we saw with Real Madrid's win at Espanyol A little bit like we saw with Real Madrid beating Oviedo last night Although I don't think the comparison is fair Because Oviedo are the same as Real Madrid have got nothing to play for now And they are quite literally the worst team in the league Although I was told, actually, that for a team that's bottom of the table, Oviedo's points total is actually not that bad.
25:57Alex Kirkland:For a team that gets relegated, obviously, they're miles off, right, of any salvation. But for a team that's bottom, it's not that bad for a team that's bottom. We've seen teams that's sort of 22, 23, 24 quite a few times. That's a ridiculous attempt to make Oviedo. It doesn't sound anything other than totally shit.
26:14Sid Lowe:What's the worst, what, the lowest points total every 15? Is it 15 points?
26:17Alex Kirkland:Sporting Gijan, ladies and gentlemen.
26:20Sid Lowe:You've got almost twice as many as that.
26:22Alex Kirkland:Talk about grateful for small mercies. Talk about celebrating, what is it, pyrrhic victories. What's the word I was looking for? The word I was looking for is... I still sort of feel like Real Madrid might win this because they've got good players and they score out of nothing.
26:38Sid Lowe:I mean, let's see. Mbappé presumably... Abelard basically said that Mbappé was going to start. I don't know if his words last night changed that. If I'm Abelard, I'd tell him to sod off, to be perfectly honest.
26:50Alex Kirkland:yeah but i mean you're going anyway you're going anyway i suppose the question yeah but but he but
26:56Sid Lowe:he loves he's such a club man that he knows i think doesn't he know that that just like adds so much fuel to the fire that he wouldn't do it sort of for the sake of the club kind of thing
27:05Alex Kirkland:as much as he might want it personally i think you're right i don't know what to say with this
27:10Sid Lowe:i really don't i feel like maybe it may be a way win but i so do i not with any but i i feel so many arguments for different positions on this and there's a bit of me that thinks that Ramji can't be asked for Sevilla a draw will do draw is this just a draw draw yeah a score draw maybe yeah okay and finally the game that is being played at 9.15 Spanish time we're not sure why
27:37Alex Kirkland:it's not 9.30 but 9.15 Barca Betis Barca Betis and I think this is a game where both teams play lots of goals. I could see something like a 2-2 draw. I could see a Barca win just to wrap up the season nicely but I mean, wanting to and being able to do so is different. By the way, I think it's worth noting something here. The two teams that have lost games 1-0 in both cases after celebrations, which were Real Sociedad and Barcelona. I don't think it's chance that they've lost those games after celebrations when the next game was three days later, not a week later. And I actually think that's probably something La Liga needs to think about.
28:22Alex Kirkland:Because I do think it's a genuine problem what La Liga has seen with the number of big teams sort of effectively downing tools in the final week's season. Now, I know it's an insurmountable problem in basic terms, which is teams have got nothing to play for. It's just going to happen. But I think there needs to be some way of thinking about if this can be sort of manipulated so it doesn't happen. Now, I don't know how you do that, because how do you predict who's at the bottom? But for example, I do think the cup final needs to be later in the season. I personally would end the season with a cup final, but that has logistical difficulties as well.
28:52Alex Kirkland:I would also very much be in favour of saying, don't cram in the midweek fixtures at the end. Although it does, to be fair, it does create drama, because you've got loads of points to go when it feels like you're at the very, very, very end of the season. But the obvious time to do it, it seems to me, is at the start. Get the season up and running quickly. But anyway, that's the thing. all that that's a debate for another day i'm going home with barcelona home win probably free to
29:17Sid Lowe:home probably three two okay sid we're going to wrap it up there if there's a bit of noise at my end it's because they are there's a street and sort of street cleaning lorry going past my window and certainly for me it sounds quite noisy maybe you can't i can't hear it so okay well that's but you're also i also can't hear many things yeah yeah yeah you can barely hear what i'm saying to you said um okay let's wrap it up there we've made a note of your prediction so we will know how accurate or not this weekend's predictions will be enjoy those games on Sunday wherever you are watching Kitcho will be back to talk about it on the Monday podcast as always so join us then thank you see it have a good one bye-bye for now cheerio
