05With us right now, it's Christine Blasdale from Down Under. Christine, it's great to have you. By the way, you are an international media and expert authority coach. You're found on the web at christineblasdale.com. That's B-O-L-S-D-A-L-E.com. Christine, it's great to have you. Oh, Josh, thank you. It's so wonderful to have me here too. Ah, it is Down Under. It is so wonderful for me to be here, isn't it? I love it. I love it. Christine, before we get into what your superpowers are professionally, what do you do when no one else is looking? What kind of fun stuff are you into? Like, what are your hobbies, any kind of entertainment you're into lately?
48I, I am a TikTok freak. I, I, I have become, you know, for the longest time I stayed away from it because I thought it's just going to be a bunch of teenagers, you know, dancing in their bedrooms. And, and then I slowly crept in and I was amazed at the creativity at the, you know, just genius that's on TikTok. And so, so I've been, I've been posting my own silly videos, nothing to do with business, nothing to do about promoting who I am. Really, it's about having fun at pop culture and what's happening in the world and all that good stuff. So I do that. That's what I do for fun and relieving my stress.
27And then every now and then I'll go through a Netflix binge and watch things. And Hoarders is something that is a weird fascination with me. Oh, I know. It's so fascinating. Yeah. I always feel better about my house when I watch an episode of that. Yeah. So my wife watches Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. And I think she does it. You know, so she's like, wow, I really have my stuff together. And, you know, I don't have to. So evolved. Don't have any of this drama to deal with in my own life. You know, but I want to ask you something because, you know, you pointed out that you share and post just fun things.
08And like if someone goes and like, and I hope by the way, we connect on, I don't know if you use Facebook at all, but I, you know, Facebook's, you know, just it's a platform that I've used for over a decade. And I so seldom post business content there. Like it's mostly just fun, interesting, self-effacing, you know, and by the way, anyone listening, you're welcome to connect with me personally on Facebook. It's cool. You know, I'd love to connect with you there, Christina. We could connect there. But here's the question I was going to ask is, you know, when I do the same thing with my email, like I don't sell very infrequently do I sell on my email.
48To me, I see these platforms as where we can build relationship together. And then, listen, if it's appropriate for us to talk business in some other venue, cool. Right. It's like for me, it's like I try to limit my business talk around the water cooler. If we're around the water cooler, I want to talk about other stuff. Right. And so there is a I think there is a serious business justification to quit being so damn buttoned up all the time on social media. like even LinkedIn, it is cool for you to let some personality go rather than just like, here are the three things that you must do if you want to blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, man.
30Listen, there's an infinite amount of that. We got ChatGPT and AI for that stuff now. So listen, if you're not connecting based on personality and human connection, good luck. Well, and find your audience. Exactly. That's the thing. What I find is that with LinkedIn, I've had a love hate relationship with LinkedIn. Right. And so when people say, what's your LinkedIn, you know, send me your LinkedIn profile. And I go, okay, here it is. You know, and I reluctantly post on LinkedIn because I get inboxed by people, you know, would you like to make six or seven? You know what? I already do that. Don't, you know, leave me alone.
07Cause it's like, or, you know, if you're going to ask me out on a date and then just jump into bed, you know, come on now. So it's really important that we do have that. I think we've been sales out fatigue. We're tired of being pitched. We're pitched when we turn the television on. We're pitched when we turn the radio on. We're pitched all the time. And so I encourage the clients that I work with really to be authentic and to show their personality because, listen, people are not going to invest time, money, their energy with you if you're a consultant or whoever you are. they're not going to do that unless they trust you and the best way to have that trust is through video content where people can see you and see your eyes and hear you speak but also that they can relate to you they can go this is a human being and not just a suit right not just somebody that's shaking you down for money so that's that's and for me it's like i just i enjoy doing that kind of content that fun you know yeah using your sense of humor um and humor is a great commodity these days because we all, we all, you know, life and, and the world, uh, could be a little stressful.
20And so when you have that bit of levity and that, and that break from that, it can be a really great asset to people. Well, talk about how this parlays, Christine, into the work that you do, because, um, you know, again, if you're looking to build authority, um, you know, human connection And, you know, connectability is so critical to this, right? It's absolutely critical. And we're all in some sort of way also looking for leaders. We're looking for someone that we can not be like, but we can look at what they're doing and we can go, you know what? I really admire. I admire your energy. I admire your fortitude.
04I admire your courage. And that's why I have some clients that are not in business. They just want to build legacy. I have one client who's 83 years old, and she was one of the first women hot air balloonists. And she's like, do you think people really want to hear me speak? And she's wonderful, beautiful. And I said, are you kidding? I know. You're in an industry. You were in an industry where it was completely male dominated. And with her, I see a book. I see a film. we both were talking and I said I see a film a biopic on you and she looked at me and she goes how did you know that I said because she goes I was thinking the same thing and then I said do you know who I want to play you and we both said Kate Winslet at the same time and I was like this is and and that's the thing is that it doesn't always have to be about making the money but it needs to be about making an impact so the why why are you doing it why are you in business why are you a coach?
01Why are you a consultant? All of that. That's really important. So I take a look at people. When they come to me, I take a look at everything, their blueprint, their digital blueprint, what their vibe is, how they come across. And if the message that they're trying or they think that they're putting out, if that message is getting across, and then we whittle away at things that we can do. Most of us are sitting on a bestseller. And I tell my clients said all the time. They go, but I'm not a writer. I said, I'm not a writer either, but I got five bestsellers because I'm a talker and you can take your talks, your videos, your content that you've created, your podcast episodes.
41You could take that and you could turn it into chapters in a book and self-publishing baby is here. And it's the best thing. You don't have to go through a publishing house. You don't have to go through an agent, all that stuff. And so my thing is create the content and get it out there so people can make their decision if they want to be a friend of yours or a business associate. Yeah. Christine, can you tell me a little bit about like what you're talking about your clients? What do you do? Like, what is your service? Like, how are you working with your clients? I help them develop their expert authority.
14So, and it depends on the, completely depends on the client. I'm here in Australia and I've got a few clients here. many of them are off are beginning authors or or solopreneurs but the clients that i work with in in america la and new york mostly they're about really hitting the mark on who they are right establishing who they are and a lot of times they don't know they live in a silo you know a lot of times they live in this world where it's very isolated or they have people that are yes people saying oh yes you're the greatest yes we're going i actually strip that all away and I take a look at who they are in the public, in the public persona, looking at what they're looking at what their website is, looking at what they're the stuff that they're putting out.
00And then I work on going, okay, we want to just establish you as the expert speaker on this topic, a great guest on podcast shows for this. And it's really expanding their expert authority and making sure that it's dialed into what they want. Because a lot of times, again, we think people will perceive. We think people will know I've had 25 years in broadcasting radio, right? No, you need to tell people that. They're not going to just assume that. So you need to tell them what it is that you want to get across. So that's my job. And I love it. Absolutely. Yeah. Well, and it's really interesting.
36I was just talking about this yesterday and I posted this funny meme and I bet you have some thoughts on this. And I said, the funny meme, it basically said, you know, you are good enough. Actually, you're probably overqualified, but let's start off the day humble. And, you know, and the, you know, the, you know, the commentary that I added along with that was that I had served essentially as a fractional CRO for over 200 companies before I became comfortable enough with that title to be able to say that I'm a fractional CRO. and you know and i finally was just someone that just like why aren't you saying that i'm like oh i don't want to sound pretentious or you know i don't want to be braggy or whatever people gonna people are gonna call me out because i'm being if you're not a cro i'm like yeah what am i worried about isn't that crazy and the thing is my suspicion christine is that 99 of us are probably humble.
39Like we have, we have a healthy degree of humility. Some of us may be a little bit too healthy. The 1%, by the way, that aren't, don't have humility, they're insufferable. Like they're awful people to be around. Sociopath. Yes, pretty much. Right. And I'm sure we've all met those people. We know exactly who we're talking about. Yes, we do. But, but Christine, I'm sure you have some thoughts on that. Yeah. Yes. Well, in, and it, you know, it, it, it runs the gambit because when I've I'm from California I'm from Los Angeles born and raised lived there my whole life uh my wife weirdly found me on Instagram on her scroll and started stalking me and the rest is history and now I'm here in Australia and uh when I first came to I was very see Americans have this thing we have this thing since we're born you can grow up and be the president of the United States you can you can do anything right we have that can do attitude and not other not everybody in the world has that and i thought australia because i was like you look like us you kind of you know it's you speak the same language it's kind of weird when you say mate all the time but i thought that would be very you know similar no they have something here called the tall poppy syndrome right so when i came here when i came here and my wife's a real estate agent and i said babe I said, you should be, you, you got number one agent and, you know, in this area, you need to tell people you're the number one agent.
07And she said, Oh, but I can't, I can't do that. Like, you know, that's, that's too much. People think I'm a wanker. And I'm like, what? And me, if I win, you know, if I get anything, I'm like to tote it around going, yeah, yeah. It's because they, you can't be too big for your britches here. Right. That's some of that English stuff coming over. That's getting better as there's more people going into business and really scaling up and women as well, it was taking leadership roles. So that is changing. But in the beginning, it was just shocking. and in America, we don't have such that issue, but we do have imposter syndrome.
47And that unfortunately, with a lot of very talented, gifted women that have major expertise in their business, sometimes they suffer that. It's like, well, you know, who's going to want to see a video of me talking? Who's going to, I'm like, I do. I want to, I want to hear, right? And besides that's not up to us to judge somebody else. Our job is, you know, to us, To me, it's just like you're creating your art. And if your art is your vulnerability and your ideas and your thoughts and your personality and what's going on in your life and what you're advocating and championing for, listen, that's not up to you to judge other people who are looking for that content.
30And by the way, I think the fear is that someone's going to call me out, call me a faker or whatever like that. No, they're just going to keep on scrolling. They don't have the time. Like, and even if they do trust me, that's not someone you need to carry about their opinion about anyway. The two biggest obstacles that I have with clients is getting over that judgment issue and the comparison model. And it's like, well, what would people think about me? I can't get on camera because I'm this old or I'm this fat or I'm this, that, whatever. And it's that they're worried about being judged. Right.
03And if you're worried about being judged, you're that you're going to, it's going to stifle you. and you're not going to be able to express your message, whatever that is. And then the other thing is the comparison model, which is like, well, people in my field, you know, they're doing this kind of video, that's doing this kind of content. I need to do something like that. No, you need to be unique. Why do we love the, you know, share, share is share. Okay. She is not like anybody else. And I'm, I'm picking her because she's an, I love share, but she is unapologetically herself in interviews when they said oh shared you know what about you know having getting a nice man and she's like i am the rich man you know she she was so trailblazing for her time and she got a lot of criticism as well but she always remained true to who she is and and and was and now is and now she's almost 80 years old and she's selling out concerts she's one of the most sought after celebrities on the planet.
07And because she did not care about what other people thought of her, really. Yeah. And that it's the attitude that it's that energy that I think is just so infectious and attractive. She is unapologetically herself, which I think, you know, is how I think of that. So Christine, we have just a couple of minutes. We just have a minute left. No, no, no, sorry, sorry, sorry, please. I'm going to hold on. No, no, I'm just going to say, I'm going to hold on to you for as long as I can. Oh, okay. Yeah. Christine Blasdale.com is your website. Uh, by the way, uh, I don't know if you have a Tik TOK link on your, you do website.

24This is just a fun read these are all my little tips and tricks and things on how to really and it's we talk about authenticity but we um it's fun it's a fun fun read and i would love to gift that to your uh wonderful listeners and viewers um as well how do they get it what do they do i'll send you the link that they can uh oh we're gonna put that we it's it's already right in front of you listener you just there you go podcast app go back to your podcast apps close whatever you're looking at uh now go back to your podcast app click on the information button or the icon keep clicking around until you find where we've got the show description and the show notes for this show notes that's that's where we have a direct link right there that we've gotten all set up christine what was the name of your book one more time it is the social media and branding survival guide that's something the whole title is very long but it's uh the social media and branding survival guide and um i'm very very happy with the the turnout on it was a uh bestseller and it just came out a couple months ago.

Christine empowers entrepreneurs, coaches, and creatives to build magnetic personal brands by embracing authenticity and sharing their stories boldly and unapologetically. This episode dives into why being real—not just polished—is what truly builds trust, authority, and connection in today’s market.
Ditch the Filters and Embrace the Real You
Christine opens the conversation with a refreshing take on the power of being yourself online. From her obsession with TikTok to her guilty pleasure of watching Hoarders, Christine reminds us that our quirks make us human—and relatable. These personal stories aren't distractions from your brand—they are your brand.
She challenges professionals to let go of stiff, corporate communication and show up as they truly are—funny, messy, compassionate, and real. Especially on platforms like LinkedIn, where many feel the pressure to be overly polished, Christine urges listeners to embrace humor, personal storytelling, and vulnerability to foster real engagement.
If you’ve ever hesitated to post content out of fear of judgment, Christine’s advice is liberating: people are too focused on their own lives to nitpick yours. The key is to focus on your journey, own your story, and speak directly to the people you're here to help.
