Jared, welcome back to The Toast. It is great to be here. Thank you so much for having me. It's always a pleasure to see you, to be amongst the toasters who I see on the road. Every now and again, I hear from a toaster. Oh, I love that. Yes, they're like, I heard you way back when and go back on The Toast. I get asked, go back on. I'm like, I'm here. The Delray Daddy is here. So Jared is here today. You have not been on the toast in years. I can't remember.
0:57I remember the last time we co-hosted together probably like five years ago. But you are a comedian, podcaster, creator, all of the things that qualify you to sit in this chair today. I took the test outside and then I passed. I was able to go, hey guys, a lot of you have been asking. For your skincare. Yeah, I said it well. So, no, it is a pleasure to be back. I moved down to the Florida area, and I'm like— You've been living here, like, two weeks. Like, two weeks. And I'm trying to see if it can work. I'm in Delray, which I am like—I'm singing the praises of Delray. It's weird, because I was in New York 18 years.
1:37You sound so New York, and, like, everything about you is so New York. I'm northeast. Like, I'm from outside of Boston, but, like, I'm, like, the most northeast. Like, I realize it when I go on the road. You probably realize it when you go on the road. Yeah, I realize that doing this show, like so many things that we say, people will be like, what did she say? Even yesterday I called a cream saver a sucking candy and they're like, a sucking candy? I'm like, what else do you call it? I mean, that's like literally every grandma from the Northeast. Have a Saka. You want a Saka? Take a Saka. Yeah, yeah.
2:07No, it is. It's like, again, that's the pleasure of seeing the country is like, oh, my God, there's a whole thing here that I had no idea. I went to San Jose. I put up a video on TikTok. I'm like San Jose I didn't know San Jose was near San Francisco I've heard of San Jose my whole life yeah I just was like California like why would I know in the same way why would someone know where Worcester is in New England like I these are like and then everyone's like you don't know where San Jose is I'm like no I'm not from here I don't know your your weird Silicon Valley thing but it's cool to see and now being here i'm like the new york i'm like drenched in the new york like yeah i went to a gym but it looks like you're trying to cover up with your t-shirt no i'm a florida man and your dolphins hat like you jump ship so quickly yeah screw this i'm a homer i'm just like screw that team i'm on this team now no i um i went to the gym they don't even have lockers like i'm like well where do i put my stuff and they're like there's a cubby i'm like a cubby i have to like my precious other people's things get away everything's gonna be stolen they're like like i know i'm the weirdo you know like i think that's something new yorkers because we're so loud and annoying you know sometimes that brashness comes off as like that we think it's better no it's just different you live like a weirdo in new york yeah but i think that new yorkers i do think that it's better but that's how they cope you know it's well everyone's coping right everyone is coping you know how many people the thing i'll never do is people down here are like we have so much like they tell themselves other things everyone's insecure everyone is insecure just remember that every start at if you started everyone's insecure the world makes like a lot more sense like i have people i'll be like yeah i moved to delray and they'll be like isn't it horrible in new york i'm like no i lived in the west village there was pretty great um i used to go get wasted every night and, you know, you know, stumble home, you know, like it didn't feel unsafe to me, but they have to make sure they're, you know, everyone has to like make sure their move was correct.
4:13You know, and it's like everyone's looking for a validation because these are big life choices and it's nice to hear you made the right one. Absolutely. And you fear making the wrong one. Absolutely. This is like a very millennial thing too. Like we're the first generation to be living online and like we want to make sure the thing we put out 10 years ago wasn't a huge mistake and something everyone else is talking about. You see it a lot in Austin because Austin was like that first like, hey, move here. You'll have a new life. And all the Austin people are like, isn't it great? Tell me it's great.
4:42You're like, chill. It's OK. Do you think about moving to Austin? Because that's another place. But the comedy scene. To me, it was a lifestyle choice. My parents are, you know, in Boca, the southeast Florida area. You know, my parents are here. I like hanging out with my parents even though they drive me insane I kind of like My soul is In like is injected whenever I'm around them Like they're That's so nice Yeah it's in the most horrific way Like it's like them being like offering me their Ozempic You know while I'm sitting at dinner Have you ever taken it? No come on What an insulting question You don't look like you have No I listen I think about it every day But I don't know if I could be offered Ozempic Like as a person who would be able to take it and say no.
5:28Yeah. Well, there's a big difference between taking it and being offered it. Oh, I would take in two seconds. Yeah, but taking it's different. Do you know what I mean? What do you mean? Like if I was like, hey, do you want some gum? What's the first thing you would say? Does my breath stink? Oh. They're calling me fat. Right. Oh, okay. They're saying, here's my fat fuck medicine. You need it. I mean, my mom and dad, they don't stop talking. They're both on it. And listen, I think about it. You know, I wonder, you know, but no, even last night. When I said you don't look like you take Ozempic, I didn't mean that you're fat.
6:00No, I know. I'm a big. No, listen. You don't get like jacked on Ozempic. I have trying to I've been trying to lose 10 pounds my whole life. So I. That's what Ozempic is for. I know. I know. That's the problem. It's like the X-Men. You were a fan of it. Never saw the I didn't take you for an X-Men. But you can explain the reference. The X-Men reference is they're like born with X-Men traits, whatever their genetic mutation is. They have a power. But then in every few episodes of X-Men, there's like, we can cure it. And it's like, well, take away what's me. Oh, it's true. It's like if you lose those last 10 pounds, like, will you still be funny?
6:35Like, will you still have those insecurities? Or will you just be like a man living on the beach, like with your shirt off, not thinking about nothing? Right. Would I lose what makes me me? I understand that and I do think if you'd never had those 10 pounds You wouldn't be you And I feel that way about me Thinking about my life Those 10 pounds have made me who I am But now I'm settled in who I am And I'm ready to part with them I've been me for a long time I'm done with it, you're right I do want to try All I talk about is What I eat, what I'm going to eat How much I eat That's what people who go on Ozempics say like the food noise, they call it.
7:14Like, that's what you're thinking about. That's what you're talking about. Like, what would you do if you didn't have to think about that? Like, you could cure cancer. Think about the potential. It doesn't mean you wouldn't think about anything. Just imagine what you could accomplish. Jackie, you're speaking my language. And then when I didn't cure cancer, I would feel bad that I've done nothing with my time. Right. And now look at what I've done. At least now you have this excuse. Right. The excuse is that last night I needed to have Pirate's Booty until 3 a.m. Yeah. Yum. No, this is why I love this show.
7:42This is why I love coming on here. I feel like I relate to you, the audience, in a way that's pretty spiritual. I do feel that whenever I'm around a toaster. But I mean, my parents, I was with them yesterday. They're going, yeah, you got to watch out when you go out in Florida. Anyone who moves here, midlife, they're a loser. Something went wrong in their life. I'm like, you're talking to a guy who moved down here. I'm like, are you midlife? Right, I'm, yeah, 40. but you know this is my midlife crisis moving here from new york i think and also you're only here on trial you said you're staying here a few months right but so far so far i love it it feels like i'm on vacation i'm like when does the vacation end and reality it i mean i i listen i'm happy most places i think i'm pretty easy even though i complain about everything like no but that's like that makes you happy yeah it makes me happy to complain like that's like scratching a bug bite you know like i love scratching a bug bite um but like whenever i go on the road, I can see why someone would live in that area.
8:42And I think for me, right. Do you look up Zillow every time you go on the road? Like every city you're in? Every city I'm in, but also here, like I'm Zillow in the Southeast Florida area. I mean, those emails, that's like the best email I get all day. Like I'm looking at everything. I, I, I just, I like it. I, and the other thing is big city to a small town. Like Delray has 64 ,000 people. I went to Penn State. That's State College, Pennsylvania. That's the same size. I've never had that. As far as dating, I'm single. I do a podcast about dating. It's kind of nice to live the life that we've had written in to us about.
9:24It's kind of like relate to people who are in a small town and dealing with dating struggles. Even right away, I was like... It's like a Hallmark movie. It's truly a Hallmark movie. I'm the lawyer woman moving home to her small town. Yeah. You are the lawyer woman. I am. I'm the hotshot lawyer who moved back to Delray. Hopefully some young contractor can sweep me off my feet. It is weird. I mean, even like I said, I've been thinking a lot about this. Like, you know, I try to think about my life and, you know, there takes a certain amount of vulnerability to put yourself out there. I've talked about being single, being in a relationship.
10:06And then this small town thing we get written in about. And I'm like, I actually think what I'm going through right now and feeling so good about it. I think anyone living in a big city, like if you did a three month stint somewhere else, it kind of feels like when I got here, like I just downloaded the app, the dating app for the first time in years. Yeah. That first moment where you're getting a lot of matches, you're seeing all the new people, there's an excitement, there's a jolt of energy. And I'm sure that like the dating apps, that goes away. You've seen them all. Yeah. You know, and that's probably small town stuff too.
10:36That's pros and cons. That's life, you know? So you're dating down here. I've gone on dates, yeah. Yeah, I'm dating everywhere. Are you looking for something serious, like in earnest? Or you're like, if it finds me, it finds me. I think most men, the problem with dating apps is you can put like looking for long but open to short. And I think that's every man's setting. Is, you know, lots have been made about the female version of like the Disney princess. The, you know, the Prince Charming sweep me off my feet. I think there's a male version of that where it's like, look at any coming of age movie.
11:11It's always like the cool girl who gets it. Oh my God, no one else knows she's awesome but me. That's a male thing. Yeah. So I, you know, I'm always, I've been, you know, I feel ridiculous because I do want a long-term relationship. I do want to get married, have kids, all those things, you know, like live the toaster lifestyle. But I do, but I'm not, also my life is good, you know, and I think that's the problem. I make a joke that sounds awful all the time. I'm like, the only thing that could ruin my life is a woman. But that's the same for anyone listening, male, female, gender aside. If you're like 35, you're making money, you're living well, you got your phone, you got your sweatpants, you got your good spot on the couch.
11:55The only thing that can really like ruin that whole thing is someone, you falling in love and it being the wrong person for you. Right. And I have that fear. That's like my fear of commitment has like evolved over the years. Into like it being someone who's just going to like kind of take from your spotting things. and cause stress. Relationships could be stressful. Right. Like, I like my life. I like my family. I like, I want to bring, you know, again, it's like the cubbyhole. I just want someone to like, and that's not how it works. I understand. Like, I sound ridiculous. It could work that way in a not good situation, but they could also add so much value, you know?
12:33That's the point is, is it goes both ways. It could be the most wonderful thing. I know I would be, I do believe I, we've had psychics and we've had, what are they called medium mediums come on the show and like do a session with me uh kelly knight she's great she came on the show and and did a session with me and you know she was like i think you're at your best form when you if you found someone and she's i do believe that like i i think but um until then i you know you kind of there's a lot of guilt associated like you meet so many nice people and i don't know i'm just like i i don't know how to get to the next thing and that's that's the problem i think for a lot of people i don't think i'm alone i understand what's the longest relationship you've had two and a half years um i would you know i've lived with someone i've i've had girlfriends and then you know since then it's been like three month or maybe six month or and again the other thing is like there's this what we're doing right you know bringing someone into this world yeah is tough i don't and i have gone through that bringing someone into this world and then out of this world.
13:42Yeah. That really was. Probably wouldn't do it again the same way. No. It's painful. Yeah. And I feel a lot of guilt. Not, you know, in the way anyone would. Nothing went wrong. Nothing extreme. But it was like. Yeah. It's just a weird situation. And it's funny because people would be like, you know, don't, you keep your private life private. You're like, but no, this is so fun. And like, it's good for my content. It's good for our relationship. And we're working together. And like, it's fun to bring someone in. Right. But there is that like downside. that's like, oh, now I know why people warn you about this.
14:12Of course. My mom, I mean, I talk about my mom. My mom will call me and go, everyone's talking about the video you put up about the trash. What did you put up about the trash? And I put up this video. She goes through the trash. You can't throw anything away. You went through her trash. No, I threw away something, and she said, don't throw away garbage in the garbage. How insane is that? She doesn't throw stuff away. She goes through every piece of garbage My whole life That's why I'm a hoarder She would go through with her hands Why'd you throw away this tissue? And I'd have to explain the tissue Can you imagine?
14:48I blew my nose Are you sick? Like it would lead You're dealing with this detective That's always on the case For nothing I don't know why I'm being accused That's my whole life And my mom But now My mom's a version My mom's never gonna be out of my material Until her death And then I'll have to hear Oh my god what are you going to do for your comedy? Like, I'll have someone say that to me. I'll be like, I'll find something. Can I warn my mom? Fucking dead. She's not dead. She's fine. She's more alive than anyone. We're happy to hear it. Yeah. No, my parents are wild animals and like, and they're still married.
15:20So it's like, you have a really good example. Yeah. Well, that's also the scary part too. Yeah. You know, look how hard it is for them. And they're happily married. This is happy. Stop. I feel like screaming at each other. A lot of people who have like parents who are still together, It could really go either way in any situation. But I feel like the bar is also set really high, regardless of their mishegas. Mishigas is the best word. Yesterday, my mom goes, look it, he's like a pig and then has barbecue sauce on her face. And I'm like, the pot calling the kettle black. They're like made for each other.
15:58You know, it's just, yeah, they're total characters. I mean, I did, I just taped a special and it's all about going to the beach with my parents. Oh, sweet. The whole hour is one story about going to the beach with my parents. When does it come out? I hope. We'll see. I hope we sell it to wherever we sell it. Your previous special is on Netflix? It's on Netflix right now. A, flex. Thanks. Big flex. What's it called if people want it? 37 and single. I mean, to get on these topics, 37 and single. It's on Netflix. And the first half is about dating. The second half is about body issues and my family.
16:31Oh, classic stuff here at the toast. I mean, you might like it. Toasters. So, yeah, I but the next one I was started telling the story about going to the beach in Del Rey with my parents. And it was a two minute story. And it just kept growing. Like people were like, what? You know, I was like, I guess I should talk about my dad. I guess I should talk about my mom and turn into this hour thing that like it was like such a pleasure to go on the road and have like. First of all, I, you know, I talk about being Jewish kind of in the way that I talk about being Jewish, just like not really. You know, like I'm I'm a high holiday Jew who went to summer camp.
17:04So like that's about as Jew as I get. Where'd you go to camp? Cedar. You went to Viga. I know. So same camp circles. So like it's funny because Seinfeld never mentions he's Jewish, but it's a Jewish show. Right. So it was cool to go on the road and do this show that was like a Jewish story, but then have every background come up to me and go, that's my mom. That's my dad. Oh my God. The boomers. And then Jews come up. The Jews like hilarious. They would always go up to me and go, does anyone get it? After like a whole crowd was killing. We're laughing. We're laughing. Do people who aren't Jewish get it?
17:40And it's like, they were all around you. So it's like, but it's, so that was like the greatest pleasure in the world. But like to talk about them as like, I never want, I thought talking about your parents was stupid. Like I was like, who would care about them? And then they would just do these crazy things. Do you ever like have them on your podcast? No, they wouldn't be good. It wouldn't translate. Like you have to sort of decode them. Right. And make them entertainment. Absolutely. Like if I put them in my, my mom would be like, hi. And I'd be like, no, this isn't it. This isn't what you do.
18:13I understand. You know what I'm talking about? Like, I'm sure your parents the same way. Like you go, you know, all of them, they're all. And it's also that generation. Like they're so confident. The boomers are so cocky. And it's, it, they just waltz through life. And like millennials were so not cocky. We're like the most self-conscious generation. Yeah. And, you know, then we have. Which isn't like so much better. No, it goes both ways. It's not. I wish I was a little bit more delusional. Yeah. I wish I didn't think about every little thing. But maybe it comes with age. Do you find getting older like you are sort of letting go of some of those things or not?
18:49I'm eating like I've let go, but I. You're acting like you don't care. Yeah, I just don't. I just cry about it more privately. Right, right, right. So. No, I. It is. Getting older is fine. I think that's the struggle with dating too. Like, you know, with dating stuff, and I know we're doing some advice stuff. I'm sure there's a dating question. We're doing Dear Toasters, you guys. DTQ, everyone, you'll be okay. Dear Toasters with Jared, and we're going to do some fun dating ones. If we do some dating ones, I think the - I think. I'll look at one's high shows. Whatever the questions are, I think a lot of men don't do the math, including this thing of like, well, I have to get, you know, the time has come for me.
19:30You know, I think guys don't really think in terms of timing a lot. Yeah. And you don't have to. And that's nice for you. Right. Yeah. Pros and cons. And like, there's this whole thing going on with like men not having friends, you know, like it's kind of in the news and the zeitgeist. Yeah. And it's like, yeah, because I don't like think like, like when I moved here, people were like, do you have any friends there? I'm like, friends? In what world do I have? I have my, the people I've met. The people in your life. Right. And I'm like, we'll see each other when we see each other. Like I didn't like decide to move to Del Rey based on like, well, I have anyone to have lunch with.
20:06But who will I brunch with? Like it's not. But I do understand, you know, it's different for women. Like there's a difference there. There is a difference there. That is really funny. And it's definitely a question that you get. Like, how do you like are you guys making friends? Like you do want friends in your life. But I guess I don't want any friends. I could see why for you it's like friends. Right. It was like it is weird because then I had to like think, you know, look, I get I'm not just I'm not. just someone who just lashes out without thinking internally i do try to get some depth to me when i was asked do i have friends on there i was like have i do i have friends like i like just generally and then i'm like i talk to one friend every other day that's good that's a lot of talking to a friend yeah we talk on the phone all the time that's good that's that's the best friend you have a best friend yeah i wouldn't you know let's not make it girly yeah no let's not You got it, buddy.
20:57Let's not ruin my street cred here in Del Rey. It's a BFF. Oh, you have a Del Rey best friend? No. Like from back in the day. I had a, from college that we talk all the time. But then there's like my other college friends, my high school friends I talk to. But like the idea that I would make a move based on. Like who you're going to meet. Right. Like I didn't go to like the Snapchat map and make sure that I had people around. Or like Bumble BFF. Right. Oh my God. That's something that really makes men angry. What? If you mention we could be friends to a guy you met on a dating app, I'm telling you from, I'm the guy talking to you, okay?
21:31You know, I'm not, I'm, I am one of the few straight men out there talking about this stuff because all the other straight men don't know how to talk about it and they're afraid. So I, when I get said, or we could be friends. From a girl on a dating app. It hits you in the ego. Like, I, it's something I'm not proud of. Would you rather be ghosted? Absolutely. I don't want to be your friend. we met on a dating app, not anything else. Bumble BFF, that's why there's probably no men on there. Right, do they even have a women's section, a men's section? I would imagine not. I've only heard about it.
22:05I've only heard about it too. And it's like a nice idea like to make friends. They might not even have it anymore. Right. But I'm just saying like, I like even the mention of maybe we could be friends. No, no, no, no, no, no, no. It hits me in my ego. Yeah. And if it's hitting me and I'm talking out loud about it, there's some guy just like, you know, raging at like hey maybe we could be friends just ghost or we are not a romantic connection yeah that's okay to say hit them you gotta guys are like vampires put the stake through the heart chop off the head yeah i like a ghost honestly like unless you were like seriously boyfriend girlfriend like a couple days he's not feeling it like you just peter out it's so hard these days because like i even like put this thing on tiktok about you know you talk to people the problem with dating apps is that there's just more, you know, you have more conversations.
22:54Like if there was no, it's, it's, to me, it's the difference between sugar and sweet and low. When you put sugar in your coffee, you're like, is there anything in this? Then you put sweet and low. You're like, it's just Russia sweet. That's what a dating app is. You're talking to way more people than you would ever talk to on a weekly basis. So there's more failure. There's more excitement. There's more and more and more and extra. So you get in these situations where you have a lot of medium conversations on dating apps and that almost enrages people more yeah because they're like i know they're nice they've done nothing wrong but i don't want to go out with it just like goes nowhere and so do you like dating apps what's your i've just deleted them um i'm taking a break i like i think they i think everything's good everything's bad yeah you know like i don't live in a world where i don't believe in you you know shouldn't coulda woulda shoulda it's just is you know like dating apps are a tool that's a hammer is a hammer bad you know what i mean like everyone has met in every way too so like when someone brings up the grocery store they're annoying but they're always going to be right because someone met in the grocery store when someone brings up the dating app they're annoying but someone has met on the dating app and when someone meets at the restaurant or the the wedding or the that's the problem with dating it's like it's quicksand it's it's it you know there's no way to be right and if you're trying to be right you're never going to meet anybody yeah a setup is good you get set up i think setup is number one i'm with you i set up is number one because but a thoughtful setup yes don't just set up any people no how all i ask from a setup is a reason you thought of me and the reason could be they're fun yeah well you're now on my setup list whoa i it's i'm in the male side is very short tough it's tough i always say to women they should hang out with married couples and hang out with the husband.
24:40Because the husband isn't thinking, all you have to do for the husband, in my personal opinion, and I know men, I'm a man, but I've heard men speak. Men don't go, oh, you know who's single? They never do that. They'll go, you know who's awesome? That's what they said. That's the way they speak about their wives' friends. So if you're like shitty to the husband of your friend, they're not going to think of you. You want to be like, is this advice for women? I think this is advice for women and men. I think anyone who's single, the spouse of your friend is your best, is your best asset. And you want them to, it's, you know, like Coke and Pepsi.
25:24Why would Coke and Pepsi ever advertise? We all know Coke and Pepsi. They advertise because they want that to be the first thing out of your mouth. Hey, do you want a soda? I'll have a Coke. You want a soda? I'll have a Pepsi. So same with dating. you have to be the first thing that comes out of the spouse's mouth when they for the if and when you're not counting on this person you don't want to be their burden everyone's got their own lives to deal with but you go to go out for dinner with your friend if i go out to dinner with you bring the husband you know who's awesome jared was awesome you know he was fun time yeah i want to be first out of the mouth and i think that's like for anyone who's out there and single looking for actionable things because it's all look at TikTok dating content.
26:09It's all manifest bullshit. No one has any answers. I think my answer, the spouse. Always the spouse. Also have a friend luck. You know like a pot luck? Yeah and everyone brings a friend. Doesn't have to be married. Doesn't have to be single. That's really cute. Doesn't have to be single. That's a big part of it because they think well I have no single friend. No no no. Friend luck. One friend that's your admission into the door it doesn't because everyone knows 200 people yeah this is how people sell life insurance i'm just giving you a life insurance thing i used to cold call this is what they would tell you okay so i think this is a good way to find you know love i love that let us know if it works out for any of you and you'll be invited to my next friend look for sure i'm in i'm in i i want to go to the jackie o friend friend look but uh this is such a pleasure thank you again for having me of course well we're going to do the fast five stories i'm I'm going to get your take on the biggest pop culture stories.
27:03And then we're going to get into your dear toasters. And I'll do a little Love Island recap. Are you watching Love Island? So I have started. Okay. I'm on episode four. It's so much. So I'm new to the world. I think that hurts them. I agree. I'm watching so much and so quickly, like for my job, not for fun. Right. It's not. But how many people are watching to do a podcast? Like 20. That's the thing. That's the thing. I'm like, who's keeping up with this? And then people are like, oh, I like to rot and watch Love Island. It's like, are you actually rotting? Like, how much time are you on the couch?
27:40Like, it made me think of that word rot differently. Like, I'm like, I thought it was like a joke. No, it's like the first episode was an hour and 40 minutes. You're physically rotting and your brain is literally rotting. This show is so dumb. And I think every season of the show is so unpredictable because they don't know. Like, they cast these people. They record the pilot and then they put it up. and every episode is like the night or two days before. And like, they don't know if the show is good until it's done. I know, that's the hard part with watching. Same as a viewer. And so like, I'm watching the season because last season was like the biggest thing in pop culture last summer.
28:15And I didn't watch last summer because I had watched so many, I watched the prior Love Island US seasons and I'm like, this is like seriously bad and a waste of my time. Of course, the one season I don't watch is a good one. So now I'm like, okay, I'm back. Right. That's, I mean, it's sad that that's why I'm there. Like I heard it was so great last season. I would love to like be in the know of what's going on. I do think they were helped last season because it was one of the NFL players. Brother was on it. Yeah. He played for the Giants. Yeah. The one Odell Beckham. Odell Beckham. His brother was on it.

28:48I listen. Who am I to come into a show that's been established and be like, here's how you should change it. But I'm like, it does need maybe it needs a celebrity factor. It does need a celebrity hook. And I do think a famous younger brother is a great way because that's also from Love Island, UK, which is so much more successful than the US. The one season I watched, which is like the big, the best season, season five, Molly May and Tommy Fury, who's the younger brother of Tyson Fury. Right. And so that was like a big get for the show that Tommy was on. He turned out to be like such an amazing guy, except for last year.
29:19And then he fell in love with Molly and they've been together since and they have a baby. And like, it's just been amazing. And so now we're two for two on famous younger brothers carrying a season. Right. And I because I'm watching this and it's just to me, it's like young kids dating. It feels very saved by the bell. Like, it's just like I don't really relate to them very well. And I'm a big dating show fan. Like, I'm not a reality show hater. Like, I love The Bachelor. I yell at The Bachelor on my Instagram. Like, I've kept up with it. But the thing about The Bachelor that I really like is the arc of it.
29:56And that's what this lacks is there's a beginning, middle, and end. This seems like we're just treading water. We're just sitting around until they throw another wrench into the villa. Have you ever gone out with someone from The Bachelor? No. I feel like in your career. I've met a lot of them, but I've never been on a date with one of the girls. I shot my shot once. With whom? I won't say names. Of whose season? oh it was when i can't remember what she was on but i was like i i basically put it out there i was like hey just uh i know you're going through like a whole season thing and no she did she ignored the message and i was just like all right we shot we shot that's the thing about and listen i speak from experience when you shoot your shot it's called shooting your one s s h o t not shots do you know arielle frankel from the bachelor i know yeah is that the one yeah well because she's Jewish and she's amazing and gorgeous.
30:49Because I made fun of her. I'm obsessed with her. Well, I made fun of her the whole season for, you know, the Jewish thing. Because I kept talking about how my parents would act. Like my whole, the whole bit was like, I knew she was Jewish and like, kind of like made fun of that. So then I was like, hey, listen, no things are, you know, kind of wild right now or whatever. But if you ever want to get a drink and then just not even acknowledged, not even the read receipt, which I know how that works. You can turn those off on Instagram. Or you just like don't open it. You see the person. You just delete right away.
31:21Just like she saw the subtle like hey and was like, no, no, no, I won't even read this. Just let me delete right away. I'm cracking up. I just want to say of all like. I can't believe you guessed it right away. Because like she's the one to go for it. I was like she had laughed at a bunch of my jokes. So I was like, OK. At first when you were talking about it, I figured it was someone from back in the day, like Nick Vile season. because I feel like, I don't know, that's just who I associate with The Bachelor and the newer girls are like younger. But then I was like, who would I set you up with from The Bachelor?
31:56Ariel. Well, I mean, a lot of the fans, because I kept making fun of her on the show and a lot of people were like, Jew, you know, you're a Jew, that Jew, go make a Jew. Well, she did go out with the other Jew. Who was, oh yeah. I don't know who that is. I don't watch the show anymore, but I did. He's a nice guy. Yeah, and we went out like once just for the Jews. and then for us for the jewish people and and now she's like it's just a queenie and she was like dating some celebrity okay yeah but anyways i love that let's just like didn't work i guess old jared wasn't celeb enough oh 10 pounds to lose it was the 10 pounds i think if i had taken a cent back but the thing is if you didn't have those 10 pounds like you'd have to like just sit with yourself right and be like well what was it nothing to do now nothing to blame it on right so it's good right right this is i'd be responsible for cancer still being around and you'd have to really deal with why ariel didn't want my personality holy shit the thing i make a living on i'm seriously cracking up okay well we'll talk a little bit more about love island later in the show because we have a love island story and now without further ado to do it is time for the fast five stories that you need to know.
33:12Today's episode of The Toast is brought to you by Taylor Farms, one of my fave sponsors and one of my fave brands for life. Taylor Farms is revolutionizing bag salad, a category that did need to be revolutionized. And Taylor Farms is doing the work and they're doing it excellently because they have bag salads that are ready to eat. They're pre-washed, pre-chopped, pre-designed in terms of flavors. So you don't have to be creative. You don't have to get out the salad spinner. That's a huge thing to wash. You don't have to get out your cutting board and your knives and all the ingredients and leave half an onion in the fridge because Taylor Farms is doing the work.
33:49So I love Taylor Farms salads. My favorite way to eat them is probably for lunch. It's like a perfect lunch situation. I love the Caesar. I love the Mediterranean crunch, but then sometimes I'll have it for dinner. Like if I'm making the boys a protein for dinner, last night I made them chicken, threw it on top of my Mediterranean and crunch salad. Yummy, healthy, tasty. Thank you, Taylor Farms. So Taylor Farms is available at all major grocery stores. And this is what you want to have on hand for a working girl's lunch, for a dinner party when you've cooked and slaved in the kitchen all day. And now you don't want to start chopping a salad, do you?
34:20I don't think so. And that's where Taylor Farms comes in, making things beautiful and fresh and tasty. Grab a Taylor Farms chop salad kit and get your salad together. Taylor Farms is helping out the girls, especially, you know, it's a salad girl summer and you want to have a fresh salad. You want to have a chopped to bits salad and Taylor Farms is doing the chopping of the bits. Today's episode of The Toast is also brought to you by Little Spoon. Speaking of eating easily and healthily, Little Spoon is for the littles. Little Spoon is a wide-ranging meal delivery, snack delivery, food delivery service that is for kids.
35:00That is so great. From all stages of childhood and babyhood, Little Spoon has your child covered. I know a lot of people when they have kids and they're finishing up, you know, just doing milk or formula, they don't know where to start feeding their kids. Like, how do we make baby food? Do we have to make our own baby food? If I want to buy baby food, like, are there ones that are better than others? And the answer is yes, and it is Little Spoon, and they make it so, so easy. I recommended Little Spoon to Dana because she was really overwhelmed by the idea of how to like feed your kid. When do you switch from mushies to solids and bite sized and how big should each piece be?
35:35And like Little Spoon makes it so easy so that you don't have to worry about all those things. And at every stage, your kid is eating the right sort of consistency for them, but also nutritionally, it's jam packed with everything that they need, everything that a growing child needs. And I love Little Spoon. So we love their snacks. Honestly, like that's a snack I'll get into some of the kids snacks like you won't see me trying to eat because they're kind of yucky but the little spoon ones like yeah we're all sharing mommy's gonna have some too okay let's get a bigger bag little spoon also comes directly to your door it's so flexible so easy everything stores right in the fridge and freezer pick the menu change up what you order every time the price is right the quality is unmatched i love it the kids love it grandparents love it huge win-win for our family and it can be for yours simplify your kiddos meal time with 30 off your first order Go to littlespoon.com slash toast30 and enter our code toast30 at checkout to get 30 % off your first order of Little Spoon.
36:28Today's episode of The Toast is also brought to you by Roback. Yes, because we're eating healthy and we're looking active and good in our Roback. Girls, listen up because we need to talk about Roback's new summer drop. If you're a gal on the go, like coffee in one hand, AirPods in, or headphones with a wire, calendar packed to the brim, Roback is about to be your whole personality. We are obsessed. Let's start with the Demi dress. She's sporty, flirty. She's giving hot girl tennis vibes, even if your idea of cardio is running late, or even if your idea of tennis is only pickleball. It's made with this magical performance fabric that's somehow breathable, flattering, and has built-in shorts that you can pull down without pulling down the entire dress.
37:06So no awkward bathroom acrobatics. We love her. She's the moment, as is the Steffi Active Squirt, which is just main character energy. You know when you're sprinting through a Target parking lot because you're late again, And the Steffi says, I'm late, but make it chic. She's high-waisted, comfy, and also comes with built-in shorts because Roback gets us. Whether you're actually playing pickleball at 7 a.m. or just dressed like you are, we won't judge. She's got you covered. And honestly, this whole collection is peak sporty but polished energy. It's like they bottled up everything we love, functionality, style, comfort, and turned it into wearable serotonin.
37:40From morning matcha runs to midday errand chaos, these pieces show up. The colors are unreal. The vibe is immaculate. And if you haven't peeped the new Roback yet, this is your sign. Use the code TOAST on Roback.com for a generous 20 % off your first order through the end of this week. That's spelled R-H-O-B-A-C-K dot com. I know some people were confused. Like, is it Turdback.com? No, it is Roback.com. R-H-O-B-A-C-K dot com. I love, I see that you have page six out. I love a page six headline. Page six is my first stop. It's the only stop to me. I just, I love, to me, the page six fun is trying to figure out who planted the story too.
38:24Because these are all PR agents that are kind of like making, you know, sending it over to the page six people. So I just love, where's this coming from? I kind of like, that's something that always crosses my mind. Yeah, and that's a good question to ask, like in general, as a history major. So that's something that you always have to consider the source. Right. You know? Exactly. Who stands to gain? Right. Right. I mean, there's so many stories like that. You're like, wow, this is really glowing for this person. You're like, they must be awesome. You're like, oh, that's their story. Right. Well, our first story is a little update because Travis Kelsey and Taylor Swift went to a wedding this weekend of his cousins.
39:02I'm sure that you saw was like very normie behavior. Okay. I didn't see, but good for the – what a way to – do you think that would make you happy? You're the normie cousin? I was talking about this because I did the show with Margot yesterday And she was like don't you think like it's a little weird for the bride Like to have Taylor there she like takes off all the attention Taylor's the bride everywhere she goes Right but I do feel like you could Seriously be like that insecure to be like I don't want Her there because she's going to take the spotlight off of me Or you can recognize that it's like the coolest thing ever That Taylor Swift was at your wedding like I think there are really two types Of girls and I think more people Would like want the clout of like Taylor Swift Was at my wedding that's iconic it's officially The best wedding in our friend group right even If it's done it here's you're right because what we have to acknowledge is that Taylor Swift is a once in a generation star she's Michael Jackson you know she had the largest tour ever you know money wise you know like that you go to this I didn't go to the arrows tour I respect it but I didn't go yeah you have to say that yeah I mean like no I'm like but I'm just saying like I she's categorically like one of the biggest celebrities on the planet ever yeah so that i think what's that like elvis elvis taylor swift michael jackson so it's funny like it's there's a level of celebrity you have to be that every bride would be okay with being like she couldn't be like to me if it was like i'm not to besmirch but like besmirch away but if it was like um i'm trying to think of uh who's a singer that I'd be like, if it was like Gwen Stefani.
40:36Yeah, it's like just a big to-do and is it worth the drama? Gwen Stefani might be, I think to be a, because everyone's got to get a picture with Taylor. Taylor knows she's Santa Claus. Everyone's got to sit on her lap and get a picture. So Taylor knows that she's basically going to work. Like the bride has to know that everyone's going to be at the Taylor exhibit at least for a minute during her wedding. It has to make sense for everybody. So I think the it is just a very interesting plight for that bride that I think if the grandma, if everyone at the wedding knows who the person is, then you can't be upset.
41:17Yeah, I think it's more iconic than it is a detraction. Yeah, but it's dependent on how big the celebrity is. Like if Benson Boone came to your wedding, your grandmother would be like, who? Benson? Benson Boone? You know, like Benjamin Boone? But I do feel like if Benson Boone came to your wedding, it would be a distraction. He's flipping. But he's like small enough of a person that I would make him sing. Like I would never ask Taylor to perform. Yeah, I would never ask Taylor to perform. Like, what are you, crazy? Right. But like, I'm sorry, Benson, get to work. Get up here. Right. It's a good point.
41:54But then Benson, what if he's like, this is my Saturday. I want to enjoy the open bar. But when you're the bride, you are the star. The way anyone would do anything for the bride wants Benson to sing, come on up. But that's the point where Benson goes, have fun. Thank you for the invite. I'll send a great gift. I think Benson's too small for that reason. Yeah. If I'm the bride, I don't want Benson Boone dimming my shine. Okay. I and he's a very divisive person for some reason now like have you ever seen tiktoks where people hate him? No, I'm not on tiktok. So I'm just like I can understand why people like they think he's like mass produced They think he's like like industry plant basically the the artists out there.
42:39I think he's great I think he's great too. I'm a huge fan The songs hit like okay all these artists like complaining like you make a good song Right. It's it's a very gen z like you get to look like you're an artist and you know things by making fun of Benson and making fun of things that are popular but like sometimes things are popular are really bad like and actually most things benson boone's songs that i've heard are really good whenever i get hate on tiktok my the thing you always have to remember when someone's like this sucks and i'm like i have a hundred thousand views on something the thing that you could always say back to them is like well someone loved this so much that it's the only reason you're seeing it that's beautiful if you think about it like that's the that's the sad part about algorithms is like you need it's fossil fuel you know you need someone you need the hatred of losers to take off yeah their gas for my car but that's why it's inherently negative right that's why you have to go extreme everything's the best everything's the worst you can't be moderate and i'm a moderate i'm a i'm a guy who everything is good and bad i just said that to you with dating like it's um you're in the middle i'm i'm i'm a big middle loser.
43:48That's why Arielle won't get back to me. Well, the story from the wedding is that actually there's a picture going around of the table place card for Taylor and Travis and it says Taylor and Travis Kelsey like leading some to believe are they secretly married? I for sure thought they got engaged that time that they had a party for the end of the hours tour and like she had blurred out her ring finger in all the pictures and was hiding her, like she was acting like an engaged person. In some pictures being like, huh? And then literally it's blurry. And then in other pictures being like this, knowing those were the ones she wanted to post.
44:24Right. So I actually would like be open to the idea that they're secretly married. I can't believe that this is the story is whether or not they're married and not that this was a faux pas by the bride and groom to not put her, like she's losing her last name. Yeah. She's the most recognizable name in all the world. Like how many times? It's like when George Clooney started dating the doctor and they're like, you know, they started calling, you know, they were like George Clooney and the doctor. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And it's like the people were like, no, she's got a career too. Like George Clooney's wife.
45:00Right, right, right. And then they do like whatever her name's husband now to get back at him in a thing that he didn't even like ask for. No, that's powerful, Jared. That's powerful stuff. We've changed society. So I don't know. I can't believe that's not the headline. It's like, how do you not have Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey? But if they're married, I don't know. Then they would be Taylor and Travis Kelsey. Or they would be Kelsey Swift. I don't know. I don't know how that would work. I could see her being traditional in her personal life where it's like, I'll take my husband's name in familial settings.
45:33And then, of course, I'm not Taylor Travis Swift. That's a reasonable. people are reasonable do you think they're secretly married based on this I think that what I know of Taylor is she is way more in tune with the internet than most mega celebrities are she knows the joke she knows the inside talk all the bracelets the friendship bracelets that's all like internet chatter that she picked up on I do think she likes this are they aren't they thing that's going on. I think like the only reason to blur your finger is to keep up, keep the, you know, the gas on the fire. I am of the belief as a Taylor fan, I think she, there's no bigger capitalist in our society.
46:19Like I think she loves making money. So I think she will stoke the flames of her own story even though there's no need to do it anymore. You've won Taylor. Yeah. You've made all the money. But is that how you stay on top? Right. But like, I don't know, I guess that's how you stay on top but like what's on top? You know, I don't even think it's about money necessarily all the time at this point like she just has something to prove right well that's the thing i think that's it's never about money once you've made that much money it's making the money yeah you know it's being the top dog you know like you know when you go why do these billionaires keep making rockets they get off to yeah making the rockets so i I think Taylor has that in her too.
47:00Like some people like food, me. Alcohol, me. Women, me, but not as much as food and alcohol. And some people like making money. Like if someone gave me$10 million right now, the way I would disappear off the face of the earth. Right. Like I would do stand-up. That's it. You do the stand-up for the love of stand-up. I love doing stand-up. I love writing a bit. I love figuring it out. I love the puzzle of it I love the puzzle of like Trying to get more people to my stand up Which is doing podcasts and things like that But I would just You would be like Jared's like doing like a A 20 seat room In the back of a bar In Delray Yeah And it would just be me doing For the 20 people Like I would do that And I'd have my house near the beach And they'd be like Is that Jared?
47:53I have a big beard So that would be enough 10 million would just be enough for you I think 10 mil would get me there I don't know maybe I gotta look up I gotta do some Are you high maintenance? I am until I'm not Like I Again I like to complain But I don't need very much Like I think like But I don't know maybe because I'm a slob I'm not like It's not like a point of pride Right I don't know like I just Are you high maintenance? Yes You have needs I have needs but I handle my needs That's why I don't think I'm high maintenance I don't make it other people's problem. I take it all on. But I have needs.
48:33Like, you know, if you could fly first class, never private the rest of your life, that's the only thing you could get. Would you would you be OK with that? No, I want the potential. You want the potential. Like I want it. Yeah. Right. Once you've flown private, I've done it a couple of times. just the not going getting there the minute the plane takes off is like you realize how crazy that is and you're like I can't not see this again I know I've met a few comics who go private to their gigs and I've talked to them about it I've like asked them like how do you be relatable and be I watched one comic a very famous comedian go up at the cellar he told this whole thing about first class and then he got off stage he's like i haven't flown commercial in like 30 years and i was like that's so funny that he's still doing airplane stuff yeah and i i talked to another comic and he was like i was like you know he was famous guy and i go well what did i go you know what are your fan they go we've started talking about it like in there publicly like because it's hard to talk about like listen i don't cry for the plight of the private flyer right but i in their world it could go south like it might not hit the way you think it's just you're trying to relate to a big crowd of people and you have to explain that you fly private yeah and they were saying they were like it's like having it's like time travel and they were like i get home and sleep in my own bed and i get all that time back and i'm like yeah that's a good point yeah i get that yeah 10 million wouldn't get me to private that's the problem no you need like a hundred million to be private it forever this is what people listen for the relatable humor yeah no but this is like i feel like this is our conversation like claudia and i always talk about like if we won the lottery like what would we do what would you do oh would you do this show still i i think yeah once a week i think maybe once a week um but i think in addition to like you know the business element of it like i think especially as a mom like in different aspects of like my life um it's nice to like have adult conversation like flex my creative muscles like funny and like stay because you can get like pregnancy brain mom fog like all of these things but i do think the show like keeps me sharper than i would be if i wasn't like forced to talk all the time right so i i think yeah and we would talk about how it life is in the lottery right the show would probably be like well it can go either direction.
51:08I would think the show, like any podcast I would do if I did once a month, like would be like jet fuel. I have like 30 stories. It would be five hours long. Do you know how many women like Arielle Frankel that I had would be dumped by in a month? You know how many stories I would have? Oh my gosh. Okay. We need to get into our next story, which is another. How was the wedding? I think it was great. It looked really nice. And I wish them a lifetime of happiness. Do you think you'd be okay with being referred to as the normie wedding yes if in the context of taylor swift like everyone's normie that's fair so like that's not an insult she changes everything she's the son yeah yeah um our next story is another like we're just gonna fall down the rabbit hole here because justin baldoni's 400 million dollar countersuit against blake lively and ryan menolds has been dismissed by a judge this is a major setback for justin baldoni as his countersuit against blake ryan and their publicist as well as his lawsuit against the new york times have been tossed out by a judge the judge granted the motion to dismiss the$400 million lawsuit filed by Baldoni and the Wayfarer parties against Lively and Reynolds, which alleged extortion and defamation, as well as a$250 million defamation lawsuit against the Times.
52:17The judge noted, though, that Baldoni's legal team can still amend the claims for breach of implied covenant and tortious interference with contract if they choose to, with the deadline of June 23rd. So does this end everything? Like, I just never, Is this story over yet? I don't think it's ever going to be over. Like, are we still going to trial in March? Yes. Oh, they are. Right. Well, I thought it was all tossed. I thought this was like the end. I pray. Again, I, I, this is a story that I've talked about. Of course. And it started as, oh, this is a fun. So good for content. Right. Hilarious.
52:51Oh my gosh. Hot takes left, right. Really no, like both of these people are incredibly successful. Like there's no one that you feel so sorry for. So like however you want to come out of it, like there's no like wrong thing to say. I don't know. It started as a story. I don't know. There's so many subjects here that are like real subjects that people deal with that are serious subjects. So like I when I chew on the bone of a story, I'm always like, oh, fun story. Like I don't want to be in the world of someone going, you just reminded me of this horrific thing for my life. So when it started as like Blake Lively is like kind of a monster, I was like fun, page six.
53:30And then it turned into a harassment story and a lawsuit. And then you go and I kind of did the Homer Simpson into the bush thing because I was like, ah. Because you went hard against Blake in the beginning. I didn't go hard, but I was just like. You were anti-Blake, but that's fine. Well, I just thought it was funny because Blake was one of those people where you could see there was like some page six stories of like Blake was in line at this restaurant. What's the restaurant with the Italian place with the lasagna that's like in circles? Carbone? No, it's in the West Village. It's on Greenwich Avenue.
54:02You're the West Village guy. I know. I'm the West Village girly. She was like seen at this restaurant, like signing autographs. And she ate like a normal person. I was like, and I remember reading this and going, something's off. Like, why is this so glowing to her? But I also feel like I saw a story today of something about how she was shopping and she was rude. And it's like the same thing on both sides. Like I feel like, you know, people planning negative stories about her, people planning positive. I literally don't care. I'm sure she's a massive diva. Like she's one of the biggest stars in the world.
54:30Sure. I don't care. Like I really don't care. She's like nicest. Not caring is like kind of the funnest place to be where you go, wow, I guess this person is planting stories this way. This person's planting stories that way. But then when it started getting into subjects where I was like, I'm going to like back out. And then it got fun again. Right, right. It kept going back and forth between horrific and fun. Yeah. And there's a point where this, we're so far away. And what people try to do when you talk about something like this is they try to morally discredit you. So they say, how could you talk about this subject?
55:07And you go, well, I was talking about them saying hi to someone in line at Carbone. Right. You know, like I, you know, so and then it just becomes not fun and gross. But I do like I for me, Justin Baldoni, like. I think they both keep this. This sticks to them in the way that Coke and Pepsi, the first thing out of your mouth, like what's the first thing you think of with Blake Lively? I heard she's a terror, you know, and then what's the thing? First thing you think of Justin Baldoni? It's inseparable. He might be a horrific, you know, flag waving, fake feminist, fake feminist, arasser. Yeah. So they both come out worse, net negative.
55:48They need to have a meeting, actually, and be done with this. Come out with their hands held high in the sky together. Everything that we've seen. I think he has more like I feel like she could get over it because like it seems like she tried to steal his movie. It didn't work out. But like his whole reputation is like he has Deadpool. They'll be fine. I just got Blake Brown Beauty in the mail. They just sent me PR, like the whole kit, her hair care line. I don't know why because I've jumped ship recently, like very publicly. But I will say I've really enjoyed the hair care. So she has her hair.
56:15They have their movies. They have their family. They'll be fine. Justin Baldoni, his whole name is riding on this suit. So it is a little bit more real for him at this point. But they do need to meet and like drop it because it's so bad for both of them. And nothing good is going to come of this. And people are so tired of talking about it, so tired of hearing about it. especially now that he's had this loss. I feel like he has other irons in the fire of like how he can get his name back. But, and people say defamation is hard to prove. So of course this was thrown out, but. I'm telling you, he needs that more than she does.
56:50I, I, I, and I'm speaking about this. He needs to let it go more than she needs to let it go. No, I think he needs her to hold his hand up in the sky more than she needs. They need to talk about it. She doesn't need to talk about it. He needs to talk about it with her and like have this front-facing public thing. I'm probably, maybe I'm only saying this because I'm a man. I just like, I can see, I don't think we ever think of him as anything other than that guy from the lawsuit. And I think it's either he goes and talks with her and is like, hey, can we like both? And she's nice to him and helps him through that.
57:26Or here's another direction for Justin. Him and Kirk Cameron get together and they create the faith-based rom-com that everyone is asking for. Like, I think he either goes, Kirk Cameron, way right, you know, go Moms of America, or he gets Blake to help him out. But I think things are worse for her right now than for him. I think a lot of, I think most people are on his side. But I'm just saying, like, I'm thinking like Grandma. You know, Grandma might know that Blake Lively's tough to deal with. Tough to deal with on set is different than like you created an environment of harassment. Yeah, I don't think that plane was landed.
58:13That's the only thing. I don't know him from anything else but this movie. Me neither. Her, it could be 7 ,000 other things. Yeah. Hair care. That's what I agree with. The Upper East Side, whatever the people. This is like do or die for, like this is all he has. And he was supposed to have the next movie and now obviously there can't be a next movie except his character, I didn't read the sequel but I don't think his character would be in the second movie. Oh, there's a next movie? That's what this is all about. Her and Ryan wanted to take the second movie from him because he had the rights to everything.
58:46And so that's what he alleges and that was their motivation behind smearing him. This whole story is so... The movie snatchers. Just like you said, this is so down the rabbit hole that I don't even know what this is really about. And then people are like, well, did she just have a crush on him? It's like, see, this is craziness. And then Ryan got mad. Right, this is like the funniest, like that's what's so funny about it. It's like you could line 10 people up and ask them about this story. They would have 10 different answers. You know what? Let me just tell you, that's literally what I've been doing the last two weeks, doing this show with different co-hosts.
59:21Because every single day there's something in the news about it. And like I try to ignore as much as I can. I've tried to ignore it, yeah. This case being thrown out is something that if we're following the story, we have to touch on. So I have had this conversation with so many different people. I'm like, we all agree. We need a moratorium on this story. Nobody wants to be here. We're not having fun anymore. And it's not good for anyone. It's not. That's why I had Homer Simpson in this one. because I was like, there's nowhere I'm going to get from this story to even have like a fun bit. No. Like it's not even a fun bit.
59:58It's not enjoyable for any, like no part of it is enjoyable. Right, because I got a text from a friend yesterday, the friend I talk to every day. Your bestie. He was like, my bestie, easy there. He was like, it's thrown out. To me it was over. Like I was like, and then we discussed this. What does he, does he care about pop culture, bestie? That's all we talk about. What does he do for work? He's not. He has like a regular job. He's like an accountant. That's hysterical. Yeah, this is what we talk about. No, this is like our whole lives is what we've talked about. We love gnawing on the bone of stupid stuff.
1:00:34That is so funny. Well, our next story, I'll be interested to get your thoughts. Let me just acknowledge to some people that story is like the opposite of stupid. Do you know what I mean? Like they're like they see a lot of themselves in it. And I can't really control that. Like I feel bad for that person. But I'm also like, come halfway to me and know that that's not why I'm here. Or I would never do that to make you feel badly, you know? Yeah, it's a lot. It's a lot. Today's episode of The Toast is brought to you by Boulevard. 1:04:04that's better help h-e-l-p dot com slash toast um aaron rogers is fueling marriage rumors with a ring scene in his stealers contract photo so two things aaron rogers is signing with the stealers claudia and i actually had a bet about this i'm pretty sure on the show we were we talk a lot about him because he's just like so interesting and she said he was going to retire that he's like done our modern day philosopher aaron rogers right and i said he's not going out this way he will take he will go up to another team that's like i watched the enigma documentary of his i was like this is he literally like broke himself trying to heal his achilles heel like to just not play anymore no no no he signed with the stealers i think she has to make a charitable donation now because i won oh good yeah this is this is nice in his photo i would have backed your bet you would have yeah i thought it was a sound bet he's absolutely taking the only way he wouldn't have played anymore is if no one wanted to take him but i think you know there's always the browns Like some team will take him just to sell tickets.
1:05:01Right. And he's still better than like half the league's quarterbacks. Like to say he's bad is like not the strongest take. Like he's one of the top 15 to 20 quarterbacks in the world. Right. Like he's not zero. So as long as he's not zero and he wants to play, there'll be a team for him. Right. In his photo signing with the Steelers. he's also the most insufferable human being I've ever. You're not an Aaron fan? This guy stinks. Aaron's party? Aaron's party. I was just in Pittsburgh. I was just at shows in Pittsburgh. And Pittsburgh's the biggest football town in the world. Yeah. No one cares about football more than a Pittsburgh Steelers fan, but they are Steelers fans.
1:05:46They love the culture, hardworking, grit. And they are so not excited. They're not. That's the vibe. The vibe I got was like, please don't ruin, don't embarrass our team. It's like your sister marrying a guy that you're like, as long as she's happy. But could you see like his level of like passion and theirs? If they can get on the same page, like them just being like obsessed? Listen, the Steelers. Like if he starts winning for them and like. Winning fixes everything. He's Steelers proud and then they have that like zeal. Winning is the fix-all for anything. Making money and winning are two things that make everyone happy.
1:06:31Smooth everything out for. The minute you stop making money, you make a little less the next month. Hey, why are you doing the ad read that way? Aaron Rodgers to me is a narcissist who loves himself more than anyone else on earth. He thinks his opinion is smart and revolutionary. He thinks that going to a quiet room and closing his eyes for a few hours makes him somehow on a different level than the rest of us. And because he can throw a football and he gets paid$10 million a year, he can believe that. I think that if they're winning, they'll be okay. If they start losing and he starts doing things that make sure Aaron Rodgers looks good, that's what worries Steelers fans the most.
1:07:14Because they love it. To me, to Steelers fans, and listen, I'm a football fan. I've went to Penn State so I know Steelers fans very well they just want the team wave the towel go team and and just be they want the family to be good and is he a team player I think if you win you are but you know even if they lose like I feel like even with the Jets like they've stung it was really bad all around but like he was like in with them through the losses like giving pep talks and he also had a coach that got fired in the offensive court you know like but i'm saying like the coach got fired like it wasn't in the documentary yeah that might have been left out of the documentary he made about himself did he make it yes he doesn't just do a document i just think he's like uh he is just i i it is that thing of like if you can throw a football now i have to like hear you wax on yeah you know like no you know So I don't know.
1:08:15I do think the Steelers, like I could, I just, I mean, I went on stage every night the last weekend. It was like Aaron Rodgers. And it was just like this, like, okay, I hope it goes well. They're stealing themselves. I think it's like a wait and see situation. He'll have to prove himself. But this is a passionate town that is never waiting. Go Steelers. And you go, Aaron Rodgers, what do we think? And they're like, we're just hoping for the best. You know, it's like a, you know, I used to say that about Buffalo. Like the Buffalo fans were always like, they treated the Bills like it was their like in and out of rehab younger brother.
1:08:51They were just like, no, no, no. Be nice to him. He's going to be okay. No, we hope for the best. And we just don't speak too loudly around Buffalo Bill. You know, like same feeling with this. Okay, I understand. It will be exciting for the NFL storyline though. Of course. Because if it goes north, great. If it goes south, interesting. If it goes south, it will be interesting. Listen, he's never going to be bigger than the Steelers to Pittsburgh people. So no one's going to take his side. I think he knows that. I think in New York, the Jets, there's division already. People know they're a bad franchise.
1:09:33You could blame it on a million things. Right. With the Steelers, it's like salute the flag. Yeah. So I think he knows that. I think he's smarter than that. Well, anyways, the story at hand is on his hand in the picture. He's wearing a ring on his ring finger, on his married finger. He is like with a new girl and people are wondering if another one, if he's married. It also sort of looks like an aura ring, which you're not supposed to wear on your ring finger. And it actually doesn't look like an aura. It does. That looks like a ring. That looks like a ring. That looks like one of those like rubber rings that Midwestern dudes wear with their Viore shorts at the gym.
1:10:08Yeah, at the gym. Like I'm taking off my wedding ring and I'm putting on my rubber ring. Right. It's dude who very much wears Viore and Bonobos type of ring. Do you think Aaron Rodgers is married to Taylor Swift? Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Swift, I don't think he's married. But that ring, it's tough to like. He's literally wearing a wedding ring. Right. He's not married. Well, maybe. Sometimes it's like it's just it's what you're looking at. Well, here's the beautiful thing about being Aaron Rodgers is you get to always be like, it's about the football. So what am I going to talk about? Am I married?
1:10:48Why would you care if I'm married? No, I care. I do think he knows people care. I think in the way Taylor Swift, I'll be fair to Taylor, I think he's one of those people who knows what's being written and said about him. I wouldn't be surprised if he heard me on this podcast. Oh, I wouldn't be surprised. But we're really kind to Aaron. I just said he stinks. But I think that's balanced, you know? Right. Yin and the yang. Except what he did to Shailene. I don't know what he did. But ever since. What did he do to Danica? Danica just came out and. Olivia. What about Olivia? What about. Danica was like.
1:11:19She was pretty damning. Without. It was just like. That was a really hard part of her life. Yeah. That you know. The Aaron Rodgers split. And then his family. There's just. There's a lot. That's the thing. He leaves a lot in his wake. When you said he's interesting. He is interesting. Yeah. I do think he is interesting by his own design. Yeah. Like I. I think. I think he's inherently just an interesting person. So like things follow him. You think that he. I think when you make a documentary about yourself where you're the hero, like you think of yourself a certain way. You think of yourself as the underdog.
1:11:51I was never drafted, you know, unrecruited, had to go to Cal, had to transfer. I know the story gets, you know, has to back up. Rhett Favre was taking the draft, waiting in the draft waiting room. Yeah. He is writing this story. You know, sometimes. I'm literally lapping it up. I'm like, he was passed over in the job. He's been through so much. It's like the R story page on the wedding website. Women write that for themselves. Yeah. They write, well, at first I wasn't into him, but then he took me out 7 ,000 times. It's like their own, that's their own version of writing Marvel. Yeah. You know?
1:12:29That is so funny. We all love being the underdog. By the way, we love it. No one believes they're the villain. No one believes they're the Hawks and the Mighty Ducks. We're all the ducks. We're all the ducks. Right? Our next story, we're actually going to skip ahead to our Love Island story because Love Island Beyond the Villa trailer and premiere date have been set at Peacock. So Peacock just announced that Love Island, last season's Love Island, is getting a spinoff show of like following them in L.A. like Vanderpump Rules style. Yeah. So the trailer premiered yesterday and it played after last night's episode of Love Island.
1:13:03And season six Islanders will be on Love Island beyond the villa, which will premiere on Sunday, July 13th. The series cast includes like a bunch of the stars from last season and appearances from other former Islanders. It features Ariana as well. They visit her sandwich shop. Something about her. And yeah, this is a first of its kind. I think it's an amazing idea. Yeah. Well, it's them looking at the valley and going, we can outdo that. No, but it's like we had this amazing season with this great cast and it was like, you know, lightning in a bottle. Why does it have to end there? Like we now we have these stars.
1:13:42Why not put them back on TV? And why do we have to wait till someone else picks them up? Like a Vanderpump Rules or a Summer House? Like, why can't we make our own show? Right. No, this is I mean, this is the the streaming wars kind of happening before our eyes again. Like I bring up the Valley because that's a show where they're like, oh, we'll take all these people and put them in this one. And they're like, well, we have people. It's it's the good and bad of the follower economy where it's like, oh, they have a following. So put them on this show. The good part about these guys is they had a successful season.
1:14:11Yeah. So there is interest. They are interesting. They are performative in the way we want them to be performing. So this is I think this comes from a good place of like they like them. it's always a safer bet to go with people who have a record of being good on reality tv even if you seem interesting or even name that we've heard of like right you're just talking about this yesterday with rachel zo going on real housewives of new york like yes she's interesting but don't forget she had her own show like she can do the job as opposed to other big names who go on real housewives who flop but but that's because we they're untested you know they could be good but they could also not be just because they have a name we know doesn't mean much some Some people get a taste for that and they realize they don't like it right away.
1:14:52Like, I think it's like, you know, you have something go, you never see a lot of this happens a lot on TikTok, which you're not on. But I think, you know, that like someone goes viral for something and then they do it to death. Yeah. You know, you can like they go and you can tell that person liked the feeling of going viral. They wanted to make sure they went viral again. So, you know, if they, you know, go viral for like, hey, I'm going to bop my head to music from the early 2000s. Oh, that that works. So keep on playing the hits. And they keep going with it. If that, you know, if they want to be creative, they would do something else that fit their creative, you know, creative muscle.
1:15:34Yeah. So I think is this is a no brainer. Like if you're Peacock, especially. It's a no brainer. But they don't. But people don't do this. You know, no one's ever given the bachelor, the people who came from a good season of the bachelor, then follow those girls in LA. Like it's right. You know, the bachelor, the bachelor universe to me that I think they've made too much money to ever. To me, they're the$10 million. We do this once a week. Yeah. Like we've already made our money. I don't want to do any more. Yeah. No, they're not really acting competitively. Right. I think for the bachelor and it's what bothers me because like there's so many things where it's like we're doing this date again.
1:16:10Yeah. We did this date. You could put 10 minutes of thought and brains. One brainstorming session would have an even better date. Yeah. And you can tell it wasn't done. So for this, it's like, you know, the bachelor's like, oh, we could have this and this. And then they go, no, they're making money. It's a cash cow. But I like that. I think Peacock is like one of those things where they're like, we're fighting for our lives. We need the next show. Even they do like Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip. They do these like alumni shows. Because I think they do traders. I think they've really seen the value in repurposing reality TV stars who have a proven track record.
1:16:47And I think that's a really sound formula. I mean, look at, you know, I'm in and out of Survivor. But I used to be big on Survivor back in the day. Seeing Boston Robb back, I love that so much. This is a guy who performed. He was amazing on TV. This is what he's meant to do. And then you see him on Traders. You're like, yes! bring back this guy who's like just good you know it doesn't have to be so hard so that's very exciting of course the one season I didn't watch so I don't know who any of these people are and I might watch the show actually looks like really good especially if these were my people like if these were any of the seasons I watched or like I don't know Love Island UK season 5 people like oh my god I'd be freaking out so I understand people are really excited is it them trying to like make it in Hollywood um that's like from what I saw it's like the couples from the show Some of them are still couples.
1:17:38They're living together. Drama amongst friends. I think some of the BFFs, the besties, having some infighting. Just like, I don't know what you would call it. A docu-series. A docu-series. I think you know who's done this well underratedly? 90 Day Fiance. 90 Day Fiance has done a really good job of like, hey, we're going to like, we had this couple, bring them into this next show. And they have them watching on the couch. They do a good job of keeping the 90-day community, you know, up and running. Abressed. Yeah. Well, that is all the time that we have for today. I feel so sorry for the Dear Toasters community because you guys are going to have to be on pause.
1:18:18Talk too much. I'm sorry. No, we just had so many great conversations. Okay, good. And we, like, are out of time. And I want to get this episode up. But, like, thank you. Thank you. This was such a pleasure. This was such a pleasure. And I'm sorry to the DTQ. I will make it up to you. I'll come back and do a question. I do this all this time where like the episode goes too long and we don't have time for dear toasters. And so like we push it to the next day or like sometimes doesn't happen that week. The backlash we get. So I'm ready for it. I understand. Blame Jared. Blame me. If you want some email.
1:18:46I answered dating emails on my Monday episode of J Train. I have two podcasts. Right. Well, that's tell us everywhere. We can follow you and listen to you. No, no, no. The J Train podcast is daily. I do Mondays. I take emails. Tuesdays people write in with their complaints and I complain with them it's a complaint duet Wednesdays is chit chat Wednesday I have a guest I would love to have you on there's so much left unsaid we have a lot to talk about especially I need Florida recos Thursday I do pop culture Thursday that's why I like seeing page 6 I just read page 6 and I just go off the top of the dome And then I do the You Up podcast with Betches.
1:19:31You Up, every Wednesday and Friday, we talk about dating. We take modern dating podcasts. We've been doing it for seven years, and it's a pleasure to do. And I'm like the male, I give you whatever the guy's thinking. That's what we need. Yeah. And we do cherish that advice. I hope you guys got some good dating tips from Jared, a little male POV. You have to take what I say and just know that I'm speaking honestly about my own situation. I'm not an expert. and I'm giving you basically, if I'm thinking it, I'm within 10 % of any guy you're dating. Because most people are very similar.
