In short
Extra Shot episode: It’s a roundup of funny/surreal sports news and stories, anchored by a guest’s childhood football tale. Topic: Hugo Bardley claims he was bullied at age 3–4 at a Cheshire “footballer school” by Brooklyn Beckham—pinching and verbal name-calling for being “chubby/fat.” He says David Beckham was “called in” and was “absolutely amazing” to his mother after a meeting with the teacher (Miss Mawson); Victoria reportedly never attended. Key claims/examples: the bullying led to a school intervention; Brooklyn later moved away around age 4–5. The show also mocks David Beckham’s knighthood (morning suit modeled on Prince Charles; swans named Sir David and Lady Victoria; party at “The Bull” in Charlbury with Guy Ritchie and Gary Neville; Cruz performed a song). Other segments: FIFA launching a “Peace Prize,” World Cup parking/exit “shakedown” pricing, Rob Edwards’ acrimonious Wolves move from Middlesbrough, Richarlison’s shirt-off curse and late equaliser/VAR bookings, James McLean poppy controversy and a car-park fight, and Tom Brady cloning his pitbull Lua.

Welcome back to Extra Shot, the podcast about the funniest stories in sport this week. And on the show today, meet the man bullied by Brooklyn Beckham. Gianni Infantino is making a tit of himself once again. And departing gaffer Rob Edwards is dragged out of Middlesbrough by security. Welcome back. My name's Jack. Hello, Zach. Hi, Jack. And we've got a special guest today, Outward JP and in with Mr. Hugo Bardley. Welcome. Hello. Thank you for having me.
12Hello. So, Hugo, we know each other because you're a fan, right? Yeah, bit of a super fan. I was the one who reached out to Zach with Oasis Tickets back in July. And he's been promising me to get on the pod for a long time. Making it sound quite transactional. Yeah, it's purely transactional. It's now a paper play. Pay to play. If you've got any hard currency you can offer us, then you can come and sit here too. If you do have tickets to, for example, the darts this winter, and you'd like to come on the podcast, then do get in touch. Yeah, and what became clear, I hear, is that you've got some quite funny stories related to the world of football, quite upshot stories.
50All I know is you were bullied by Brooklyn Beckham, but can you tell me? Yeah, okay, so... I need to give a bit more context. So yeah, the school I went to in Cheshire was the sort of footballer school. it's where everyone's kids went so you know Gareth Barry's son was a couple years below me I was best friends with Isaac Sinclair Trevor Sinclair the middling central midfielder Trevor at City at that point he was yeah and etc anyway this was in nursery I don't actually remember this but apparently I was rudely and horribly picked on and bullied physically and verbally by none other than Brooklyn Beckham And So how old were you?
32I was Three or four What kind of bullying Goes on at three or four? Pinching You know Name calling I was chubby I was fat So that probably Didn't work in my favour It feels like it's quite young To be insulting people For being fat He was a year or two Older than me though I think he was in reception So he was one of the big lads You've got someone Your own size Yeah Exactly But I will say That David From all accounts Is nothing but lovely I know that Because he was called in to nursery to speak with my parents about the bullying and then also you know when my dad my dad had a car accident won't go into it but apparently david was absolutely amazing for my mom every every day my mom would like be on the school drive and uh he'd come out and say hey how you doing how's roly whatever you know lovely guy so is that having met them first in a meeting about his son yeah he might have been backtracking a bit sort of I hadn't thought about that So the teacher called in Your parents and The Beckhams to have a meeting All together Was Victoria there as well?
37No Victoria was never there Never there to pick up the kids Never there in general It was always David Which is Yeah It's quite surprising But he was there picking up his kids A lot apparently So This is the height of his pomp as well Yeah exactly This is United Yeah yeah yeah So your parents sit down in this meeting with Miss Mawson and then she's like, this is Mr. Beckham, Brooklyn's father. And they're like, yep, I know. In that scenario, do you have to be like, oh, hi, hi, David. I'm not sure. I'm Mr. Beckham, I'm not sure. I don't know, because it's a weird dynamic there because you also want to be like, your son's been a bastard to mine.
15Yeah, I mean, he's four or whatever. He's not evil. Brooklyn, I think of as very sweet. So do I. he is so do I I think he's I think he's somewhat redeemed himself as sort of a men's threat through living accidents because he's very harmless I find maybe this was the moment that he was steered on a gentler course you'd hope so yeah you'd hope the school's zero policy to bullying actually has effect it worked well done Miss Mawson did you carry did you go to like primary school I guess Brooklyn would have then moved to Madrid yeah so it was I don't I don't think I even have a single memory of Brooklyn this is all you know hearsay from my parents and things but I think it was when I was four or five that he moved on um Bex moved on that's great we've got a couple more um of your stories from the Manchester football world for Patreon haven't we yeah I mean I don't know how much I can say on this pod but uh I uh have a very tasty story an inside scoop about uh the famous Balotelli uh firework incident oh yeah um and you were quite intimately involved very much so uh there are some details which oh baby it was your it was your grandma's house that Ballotelli had rented off her right and the one that he set the fireworks off in it was my grandmother's house and I won't say any more yeah there are some there are some juicy details that never came out until now actually going back to back to the Beckhams there was some big news coming out of Windsor Castle this week where David finally got his paws on a knighthood this was this was the one that he's always been after because he's been stuck on that lowly OBE since 2003 famously called the Honours Committee, old, unappreciative cunts in an email to his publicist.
52Get Miss Mawson onto him, that sort of language. Treason. But yeah, that was in 2013, I think, and now, 2025, 12 years later, they finally relented giving him the night ahead. He looked chuffed, didn't he? He said it was the proudest day of his life. Something quite, quite lame, I think, is that he was wearing this sort of, is it a morning suit it's called? which Victoria designed, which is nice, but it was modelled on this photograph of King Charles, Prince Charles, who was in 1979. Makes me want to form it. It really is. There was a line in the Daily Mail that said, From the pocket linings to the lapels, the fabrics to the waistcoat fob, Sir David Beckham's morning suit mirrored King Charles at his very best.
42Also, I know it knows the king is something like, is Prince Charles like a style icon? King Charles, sorry. that's like probably what he was wearing when he told um camilla parker bowls he wanted to be a her tampon he's already got his knighthood like chill out mate yeah yeah there's something just very arse licky about that oh yeah yeah it's unbearable very much so yeah a few signs that the knighthood might be going to david's head already so him and victoria have adopted two swans to keep in the the pond in their garden which they've named sir david and lady victoria Is she now Lady Victoria?
15Did she get a title as well? Apparently so. I didn't realise that was a thing. I didn't know that. That's how it works. I didn't think so. Oh, she'll be loving that. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, she's definitely going to be introducing herself with that. Yeah. We're doing an episode soon on the other Beckhams. And yeah, she's super into that shit. It's what I've learned from the research. So sorry, they've got two swans. They've adopted two swans. Are they going to eat them? Is that what you can do now? I don't know. Because I mean, they are Charles's property. Yeah. And royals are allowed to eat them, I read.
42The royal family And the fellows Of St John's College Cambridge are allowed To eat swan by law Why all of it To St John's I don't know There's lucky bastards Lucky bastards Is swan nice Apparently it's It's like duck But bordering on fish It sounds shit Apparently Yeah apparently I wouldn't know During my time At St John's Sort of halfway Between a bird And a fish really Yeah I don't sit I mean They swim They're on water Apparently it's quite fishy quite slimy slimy duck I'd eat it so they've named their swans after themselves with titles I mean I'm really not into the royal family or titles and stuff so to me this is vomit inducing but I think people love this shit whenever we take the piss out of things people get quite defensive as well yeah I also think there'll be a lot of people who love the suit it's just oh yeah if you love GQ and James Bond and all that shit am I going to get attacked then for this whole bullying story from the Beckham mob gonna name a swan after you and eat it he had a big party as well last Friday to celebrate the knighthood which was described as a lad's night out of the pub Guy Ritchie was there Gary Neville the whole Beckham or most of the Beckham clan as well I was at this pub The Bull in Charlbury oh yeah it's a restaurant pretending to be a pub it's not far from where he lives I think yeah it's that trendy bit of somerset isn't it yeah is it oh mate yeah somerset's like hippie celeb vibe really some of it right yeah innocent in somerset where george osborne lives not much sawdust on the floors in those pubs the whole scenario though the ball pub with guy ritchie gary neville it sounds like sort of chat gbt make me a geezer's night out yeah yeah so what And all the kids there?
37Or was it just lads? Wow. Yeah, most of the kids were there. One man was conspicuously absent. Your old foe, Brooklyn. Bully, Brooklyn. Banned for his baby. He's on the naughty step at home. You can come to the Bull and Charley when you learn how to treat your peers.
58Taking the piss out of a guy for something he did when he was four. That's really not a judge of character. I'm still scarred from it, honestly. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Yeah, it was quite rowdy though. Onlookers reported blaring music. Beckham dancing and singing with revelers. I think that sounds relatively tame. I think it was like table dancing and stuff. Was it? How fucking good is that if you just happened to be in a pub? Yeah, because they hadn't booked it out. And Bex and Gary Neville are in there celebrating his knighthood. With Guy Ritchie. Just looking around for Brooklyn. Would you recognise Guy Ritchie?
29I don't think I would. No, I couldn't tell you what he looks like. He was married to Madonna, wasn't he? It was him. Really? Isn't that him? Yeah. he's the one who said it was like cuddling a piece of gristle is how he described being married to Madonna God I think he means literally my favourite detail of the party was that Cruz Cruz Beckham who is an aspiring singer of course performed a song that he penned specially for the occasion I think he penned it about five minutes before at the back of a fag packet by the sound of it so these are the lyrics to the song should I sing it? Do you know the tune?
04I don't know what the tune is. Make one up. I can. King Charles came to David and knighted him, my man. King Charles came to David Beckham and knighted him, my man. King Charles came to David Beckham, knighted him, my man. And why is that? Because Sir Dave's the man who can. He can. What's Bruce Springsteen saying? He can. He can. You're a knight. You get my heart tonight. You're a knight. You're a knight in shining armor. Yeah. You're a knight. You're a knight in shining armor. Yeah. Jesus. Christ. Wow. Again, that's probably Chat TVT. This is going nowhere. Yeah. I think he's quite a good singer, actually.
42I have watched his songs on TikTok. I watched one. It looked to me quite like it was lip-synced. What, this? No, not this one, but like a video that I watched before. Oh, really? I thought he looked like he was quite handy, but maybe it's because he was lip-syncing. Quite lippy. So this song is, yeah, quite generic. It's, yeah. Really weird. That's a nice touch I guess What did Romeo do? I don't know Kick-ups He's fucking good Badly He's quite good You see him take a free kick He takes it like Bex Really Yeah What's going on with this? Didn't he fail a career At Brentford? Yeah I don't think he's that good But he can take a free kick Exactly that Like swinging leg But yeah No Brooklyn Oh what No show Yeah I saw him refer to as David's estranged son Brooklyn Which feels a bit I think there is a bit Of a feud going on either that or he just forgot to charge his phone and missed the invite we mentioned it a couple of weeks ago that we had like an inside somebody who was at their wedding who said that Brooklyn had got up to do his speech and had like it's his wedding everyone's waiting for what he's going to say and he gets up there and he's like oh fuck I forgot to charge my phone so good mummy can you charge my phone I forgot to top up my phone again yeah so he just didn't come they are in a bit of a feud aren't they yeah I think it's Nicola Peltz his wife and Victoria don't get along I don't know what the details are it looks like one of those families where you have to constantly do family shit they're quite demanding of their children they're quite public facing they're quite royal what's that saying about them not commenting never explain sort of a bit like that with them Although calling the Honours Committee unappreciative cunts Yeah It does count as complaining Bullying a three-year-old Yeah It'd be good if they got back to Miss Mawson got your parents in back And she goes Never complain Never explain
42Actually on the back of your story We're going to say If anyone has any good stories like that Any run-ins with sports people or famous people Or their children Or their children With a three-year-old Were you bullied by Paul Scholes his cousin I think I wouldn't do a story about a three year old while they were three if you get what I mean I'd wait to yeah just so people are aware of there is a line and Brooklyn you do have a right to respond yeah you do if you want to defend yourself I'm also we've had a few recently just people being like I saw we had Thomas Tuchel was spotted browsing the baklava in a Lebanese deli quite near us actually yeah and then Claudia Ranieri was bauble shopping in Liberty so also just random spottings i'm up for even if it's quite quite minor i like it um but joe marler is fucking everywhere at the moment someone i was in a whatsapp and someone said he should run for london mayor but um the reason i thought of it is because obviously zach had a little meeting with joe marler like a event recently and the other night we were out at something and and um i left and then i the next day i was just looking on our industry and i was I was like, oh, Zach's been talking to Joe Marla on the DMs.
55And it was a 1am message from Zach to Joe Marla just going, you were robbed. You should have won trade. Was that after a few drinks? I knew you were going to re - Night bus. It was basically you up. No reply, if you're wondering. Yeah. So, yeah, we'd been out on Friday night and I had a few drinks. And then I was on the night bus back home and I was just on Instagram and saw Joe Marler is active. It was online. He was active and I was like, let's just drop a little DM. No, no bite. Presumably it's like all these like Insta hotties or like famous rugby players. And they said, oh yeah, the guy from the upshot said I was wrong.
37Reply to that first. Now we were talking about honours and Bex obviously has finally landed the big gong he craved. But there was one man who missed out on a major prize the other day. Donald Trump did not win the Nobel Peace Prize. I think everyone said he was a shoo-in after events in geopolitics that he'd been involved in. He was disappointed. And one man who was particularly gutted was Gianni Infantino, the FIFA chief, who's always tipped Trump to win the Nobel Peace Prize. He's sort of his fluffer at this point, isn't he? He's always there at an event, just talking his book. And Gianni was probably more devastated than Donald Trump about him not winning the prize.
19And so he came up with a solution. The FIFA Peace Prize. Yeah, FIFA, the football's governing body, have launched their own peace prize to the individual who's promoted peace and unity around the world. Just peace in general. Nothing to do with football. From a corrupt organisation as well. Well, anywhere. Yeah, exactly. FIFA. And the first gong is being handed out on the 5th of December at the World Cup draw, which is taking place in the United States. so I mean we can have a guess at who's going to win that one yeah I show speed would be a great plot twist if it wasn't Trump probably they're going to do it every year though every it's just like it's a rival a rival Nobel Peace Prize to me it isn't though is it yeah it seems like quite a good kickback for like whichever regime gives you money that year it's like you give them the World Cup but like I feel like it'll be populists winning it every year the sort of people who go against the grain but won't it just be Won't it just be like, oh, it's the 2034 World Cup in Saudi and the winner is Mohammed bin Salman, which is going to be funny when he wins it.
20But it will just be that, won't it? But yeah, it's a prize invented for Trump to win this year. Maybe we'll just get everything. Yeah. I think if they did it like football related, like you could have the, you know, that Millwall fan who stopped the London terror attack. Oh yeah. He should get the FIFA Peace Prize. Didn't he shout, fuck you at Millwall? Maybe we have a Peace Prize as part of our awards. the upshot peace prize that's a good idea I'll get my own peace prize yeah I think that's the most sycophantic thing they've done yet and there's more bullshit coming down the conveyor belt from FIFA's Geneva headquarters so we talked a lot about the ticket prices at the World Cup which were an absolute joke and Gianni ain't done there he's got more shakedowns for fans so parking in American I don't really think of parking as an important part of going to a football match but in America it really is because most of these stadiums have no public transport connections.
15So like the Boston stadium is 30 miles from Boston. The Dallas stadium is in Arlington. It's way out of town. There's no train. Like it's a nightmare to get to. And so for American sport, everyone drives. They've got these huge parking lots and everyone does like the tailgating thing there. Could be quite fun. I mean, tailgating does look like quite a laugh. Yeah. I've always wondered, how do you then drive home? I think you just have to have a designated driver. You just have a designated driver. Yeah. Anyway, so these parking spots are gold dust and they're going to be even more gold dust at the World Cup because FIFA have commandeered a lot of the areas to be hospitality instead.
49They are leaving some parking spaces and they've just put them on sale. Prices start at$75 for a group game and they keep increasing. The final parking spot is$175. Why is the parking going up? That makes no sense because it's the same number of fans at each match. It's not like there's more demand for the parking. Yeah, they can't even hide it. they can't even hide the fact that it's just greed yeah it's pure is there going to be dynamic pricing as well I wouldn't depending on traffic yeah surge pricing yeah it means one lane of the motorway is closed so yeah they'll probably be a more expensive lane that really wouldn't be there'll be a FIFA lane yeah it means that parking at a group game at this World Cup is more expensive than a ticket was for a group game in Qatar that is take me back to Qatar I remember at the time Qatar we were all thinking it's so corrupt it's so expensive my god take me back to the lovely fair free world yeah exactly where everyone knows your name so so is this because they want to make tailgating a thing until like because like that was that was like that was just a sort of like fan culture thing tailgating but they now charge you 175 dollars to sit in your own car and drink your own beer drink warm cans of lager in my car i wouldn't be surprised there's some corkage on the cans of lagers as well if you want to drink there i yeah i don't know i think they've just seen a thing that everyone's going to want because it's going to be i was looking into it it's going to be proper chaos at leaving these games so getting there's a bit easier but the athletic did an article about a club world cup game in miami last year which is one of the host venues it's one of the major venues for this world cup and it was um into miami versus palmyra so messy so it was a sellout and they were describing the scenes of people leaving so the only way to leave the stadium is driving or a taxi there were no like shuttle buses or anything and the like the place to pick up your uber was an hour walk from the stadium it was 30 degrees and 73 humidity like it's a slog and none of the none of these stewards knew where the place was they kept sending people in the wrong direction so it's like longer than an hour you get there and the athletic described it as like a scene out of a zombie apocalypse movie everyone's like struggling rushing around fighting over cars and uber obviously was surging so for that game it was surging to 150 to get to downtown Miami, which I don't think is that far.
07During the Super Bowl at the same venue, it was$335. For an Uber. Yeah. And that's the only way to do it, to get back. Well, unless you pay for parking. Yeah, pay for parking. It's starting to look cheap. And then I was looking, some American sports events have a priority exit lane for the parking that you have to pay more for to not be in a queue. It's a fucking piss take. It's getting quite Ryanair. I mean, I think it's scarier than that. America's like sort of, yeah, it's because there's sort of capitalism and America's a joke. But you think, you have to pay for everything. Everything's commercialized.
39But do you think the food and drink is going to get more expensive as the tournament goes? I bet. A final hot dog. Surge pricing on hot dogs as well. Because one thing America nails at sport is they come to your seat. You know, like there'll just be a guy going round with hot dogs. Yeah, but presumably that's going to be like extra for delivery fee. Yeah. Yeah, it's a fucking shakedown. You guys are going on. Yeah, we're going. Are you saving up? You've got your piggy bank. Well, I was actually looking at that and I was like, fuck going to a game in Miami. But then I was asking ChatGPT which are the good grounds to go to to avoid this sort of shit.
15Apparently Atlanta's quite good. But then it was like, oh yeah, New Jersey is good. It's a fucking nightmare. The train, you have to like change for the train. That's one of the good ones. There's no lots of subways and things there though. Yeah, but it's not that easy. You've got to change for a train. I don't know. I feel like that's quite easy for America though. The railway system, I'm not going to go into it. Not the pod, not the pod. What gauge is the railway? Yeah, I don't know. We'll see. But hopefully there'll be some quite good fan zones and stuff like in town. Yeah, hopefully. Presumably that'll be super expensive.
45Because just food and drink inside is going to be insanely expensive, isn't it? Yeah. Just like a beer is going to be like$20. Oh, I think the tailgating, they'll fuck you over for that in some ways. I don't know if it's allowed. Yeah, I bet they'll not allow it. Yeah, you have to buy booze from the bars there. Can't wait. Back in Blighty, the big news is that Rob Edwards is the latest man in the Wolves hot seat. He's actually returning to his former club because he started off there. Rob Edwards is another one of those names that I can't picture what he looks like, but it's just, you know, it's a football manager.
18Like Nathan Jones, Gary O 'Neill. Gary O 'Neill is just... The names are too generic. There's a Michael O 'Neill. for me I don't want generic names in the Premier League Michael Beal I want the names to be more exotic we talked before about Paul Heckingbottom that's a championship name that's a great name that doesn't belong in the Premier League anyway Rob Edwards he's got the Wolves job but it hasn't gone down very well because he's binned off Middlesbrough who he only joined in June and has guided to their second in the championship I think and he's now swapping them for the Wolves who are bottom of the Premier League with two points I read that no team has ever recovered from Wolves' position to stay up so it's a bit of a weird move Middlesbrough fans are livid because it's only been four and a half months he was still living in a hotel that the club had paid for just like quite partridge that yeah very partridge brings his own plate same buffet every day 12 inch so yeah they were never going to be happy about him fucking off when they're in this good position and it's been so soon.
22And sources at Middlesbrough did actually warn the press that if he went ahead with this move, it would be the most acrimonious departure ever. Which is ever in football? In the world. Just in the world, yeah. More than Christ's crucifixion. Name a more acrimonious departure. Anyway, to be fair, it was pretty acrimonious. So I've got a few sources on Teesside. This is a scoop. Apparently the owner, Steve Gibson, who's a very decent and likable man he had Rob frog marched out the training ground by security and then they went and cleared all his stuff off his desk boxed it up and like took it to his house because they didn't want him round there and then apparently this is the rumour Steve phoned the hotel where Rob was staying at the club's expense and told them that Rob would be settling his own bill which I was thinking at four and a half months that's like 10, 20 grand probably yeah that's Jim Ratcliffe vibes or Dan Levy yeah shirts yeah yeah just i kind of think he has fucked them over leaving after four and a half months but i would do it i agree but it's just at the same time i do get tired about it seems to happen more and more these days about fans just getting so dramatic and so emotional that people leaving and stuff it's just get over it i agree yeah but i also again with with these um like when managers of championship teams who are doing really well go to struggling premier League teams it's like what are you doing Middlesbrough's second in the league I think you've got as much chance of playing in the Premier League next season with Wolves as Middlesbrough yeah but at least at Middlesbrough you've got a good thing going the team's obviously playing well there's good vibes it's exciting Wolves it's like pretty toxic everyone is maybe he's got more faith that he'll be able to turn it around with that squad he'll get more money and he's going to get more money but it's also it is his he's a Wolves legend I have to say I had to check his Wikipedia to learn this but he played 100 games for Wolves and his first job in management was caretaker at Molineux so it's a homecoming it's coming home this is the job he's always driven I think it probably is when Wolverhampton Wanderers come knocking he's from Telford as well so they might even be the team he supported as a boy I don't know I think it's legit but yeah Middlesbrough fans don't agree to be fair his hotel bill is not quite the level of Mourinho Mourinho was doing the Partridge thing as well the Lowry wasn't it yeah so he did it because didn't he he yeah when he's at United yeah and he said like they were like why are you living in a hotel for two years and he was like I don't want to iron or clean or do anything like can't you just hire someone to do that but he then he did the same thing in Fenerbahce in Turkey he was in Istanbul for a year and he lived in the Four Seasons where apparently he ate the same thing every night it was pizza chicken soup and ice cream pizza and ice cream I thought Joe I thought Hezmerini was cultured yeah you think he'd have a kebab yeah at least come on anyway it emerged this week that his stay at the Four Seasons cost them 650 grand.
19Who's paid for that? Fenerbahce? Yeah. I guess that's just, I mean, they paid him like six mil overall. So I guess it's just like... Is he still there? No, he's in Fiki. He got sacked. If you're already paying him six mil, then you can cover your own hotel bill, surely. Yeah, I just think get a house. Yeah. With the 650 grand. Yeah, 650 grand is a lovely mansion for that much. Airbnb it when you're between managers, and then, you know, they can always... I guess maybe he knew that he was going to be in and out. I don't know. Yeah. And he was right. thanks to DC1908 for that story posted it on the Upshot subreddit if you're a reddit person it's the Upshot podcast is the address I think the Upshot is a porn thing we've been over this we've talked about it before alright more action from the weekend many of us can only dream of netting a stoppage time winner against Man United and it turns out so can Richarlison because he scored in the 91st minute for Spurs on Sunday in what looked like the winner.
18And, you know, fair enough, he whipped off his shirt in excitement. He actually cried, which I thought was a bit much. Chill out, mate. Yeah. And then he was booked for whipping off his shirt. And then Man United equalised in the 96th minute, which is sort of vaguely amusing if it wasn't all too familiar for Richarlison because this keeps happening. So last season, do you guys remember, Liverpool were 3-0 up against Spurs, coasting, and Tottenham had this amazing comeback in which Richarlison scored the third goal, the equaliser can't really blame him for getting excited there again he ripped his shirt off he did the pigeon dance and then Liverpool scored the winner and it was all yeah I kind of think it's even more motivating for opponents when you see them rip their shirt off and think that that is the decisive goal and it's like also like 91st minute then they scored again in the 96th like often in these games now there's like 8 minutes of service time like you can't 90 plus is means nothing nowadays so you wouldn't do that in the 83rd minute would you?
15do people ever rip off their shirt when it's not like a late equaliser or winner just rip off their shirt in excitement I feel like sometimes I sometimes do at home poach that egg perfectly limbs in the kitchen yeah if it's like I don't know if it's a really emotional goal if they've like I don't know form a club form a club sort of Adebayor vibe yeah I was at that game where he ran the length of the pitch Well, because it's four City against Arsenal. Were you one of the... I know you're a City fan. Yeah. I thought the Arsenal fans were, like, coins were being thrown. Peltium, yeah. But they were also chatting some pretty nasty and racist things at them the whole game.
54So I do think that's one of the great moments. Oh, yeah. Rich Arlissian, though, has done it many times before. And it is a bit of a running theme that he's cursed when he rips his shirt off. So in 2023, he was booked on two separate occasions for celebrating goals by taking his shirt off, which were later ruled out by VAR. and one of them was the full-on shirt-off pigeon dance shushing, cupping the ears and then suddenly it all fell quiet long VAR deliberation got ruled out referee's decision you shouldn't have done the pigeon dance the pigeon dance makes it so that's why how does pigeon dance oh no it's that yeah yeah I was actually watching a video are all batteries the same That's like asking if all soccer players are the same.
46Take Messi, the most decorated player ever. Is there any other player who has achieved that? No, just him. Now take Duracell. Is there any other battery with Power Boost ingredients inside? No, just Duracell. Remember, goats only trust goats because they're built different. And Messi only trusts Duracell. So good, so good. New summer arrivals are at Nordstrom Rack stores now. 32:40Now streaming on Disney+. A superhero remake. Not exactly what we'd expect from an Oscar-winning director. Action! Simon Williams. Audition for Wonder Man. I'm going to need you to sign this. Assuming you don't have superpowers. I'll never work again if anyone found out. My lips are sealed. Marvel Television's Wonder Man. All eight episodes now streaming. Only on Disney+. I'm doing it the other day, and I can't remember which teammate it is, but the teammate's kind of joining in. But he's like watching him Like concentrating so hard Trying to learn the dance Studying It's like they'd rehearsed it Brazilians do that though Brazilians rehearse Their footballers But weirdly it's cool I want to bring that back though Yeah What like the team Yeah Yeah Yeah a group celebration's good You get a lot of shit for it now Yeah I saw a tweet saying That Spurs have never won a game In which Richarlison Has taken a shirt off to celebrate I don't know if that's true I can't There's no way of checking that Apart from going through all his goals He must be racking up the bookings for this as well because if he ends up getting like a suspension for what is it?
45Five yellow cards. Yes. He doesn't score that often. That's true. He can occasionally. Whenever he scores it gets overruled. Yeah, but he can pop up in key moments. Yeah. I actually quite like him. I know a lot of people hate him but I think he's quite like a fun... He's the type of player you want in your team but you'd hate if he wasn't sort of thing. Yeah. If I, you know, he's like an arsehole but he's your arsehole. Yeah, he's our cunt. But is he reliable enough to even get that status? but I just find him quite funny. He just like lives in the moment. It's actually not just his own goals that he ruins.
14So a couple of seasons ago, Kulisevsky scored for Tottenham and his wife was pregnant. So you know how they always now want to do the ball under the shirt thing. And before he got a chance to, Richarlison grabbed the ball and like booted it into Rosehead. Just so jubilant and then got a proper ticking off from Kulisevsky and he like sent Richarlison to go and get another ball. He like sheepishly gathered it. Kulusevsky did the pregnancy thing. The moment was gone. It was ruined. Now, speaking of inappropriate celebrations, it is that time of year again when crowds fall silent to remember those who have lost their lives in war.
50Sorry, it sounds like I'm about to... Are we doing? Are we doing another Royal Navy ad? This minute's silence is sponsored by the Royal Navy. Some of our best listeners have been sent to their watery graves.

08remembering all the shotters in Davy Jones' locker it is beginning to backfire as listener numbers crash we did a survey of Patreon users and it was like what do you like what don't you like and there were a few mentions of the Royal Navy ad I think someone said not enough Royal Navy ads more but one man who probably won't be signing up for the Royal Navy anytime soon is Wrexham winner James McLean who ever since sort of 2012-ish I think it was when he said I'm not wearing a poppy while he was playing for Sunderland he's always like had to deal every November with like getting a lot of shit for that stance I mean he's from Derry he said he'd actually wear one if it was just for people who died in World War 1 and World War 2 but you know I don't think anyone should expect him to wear a poppy but people get a bit mental this time of year and he gets booed and he gets death threats apparently.
06Even now, I think. So the other week when he got into a scrap in a car park, I assumed that it was the provisional wing of the Royal British Legion finally exacting revenge on James. Smashing him around the head with a collection bucket. With you two behind him. Yeah, exactly. Just sticking one of those really sharp pins you need for the poppy through him. Turns out it was actually some Cardiff fans. So he's at Wrexham and they were playing each other for the first time in 21 years, about two weeks ago. It's obviously a big derby anyway, North v South Wales. And Wrexham are now in the championship and Cardiff are League One, right?
43And obviously everyone fucking... Wrexham's a big game. And James arrived for the match at home in the car park where four Cardiff fans were waiting for him and they started on him. He said they were running their mouths off. One of them made a hostile move towards me. So instead, I wasn't waiting for him to make the first swing. So I did. four men one of me so basically he decked the guy I don't know he's actually explaining it a bit like a sort of SAS veteran describes like clearing a cave of Taliban do you know what I mean I neutralised the threat but yeah he basically he punched a guy in a car park and everyone seems to have basically sided with him I think was he arrested sorry I'm the one telling the story I don't think he was did you say this was before the match before the match so what I've yeah I can kind of see it's like you do get a lot of dickhead football fans who just hassle players, right?
36Yeah. And there's a slight flaw in the Wrexham Stadium layout. The away entrance is right by the players parking, which I think is a mistake. Just charge people $177 to park there. But I think like putting them that close together, I guess you're asking for trouble. Wrexham don't really expect that sort of behaviour because it's normally like Blake Lively handing out free gin. American families. Yeah, it's all quite Disney plus. Yeah. Well, I'll tell you what else is not very Disney, making petrol bombs, which James McLean said the other day, he did an interview this last week, where he said he learned how to make a petrol bomb aged 10.
08So from the age of 11, 12, 13, I knew how to make petrol bombs and knew how to fool, and he would. That is very Derry, that. Yeah. I like the way he's recalling it as if it's, oh, remember at school, we used to make daisy chains here. Yeah. I actually then got quite curious about petrol bombs and how you make them. is it quite simple you haven't been googling that I googled it and it's google must have censored the results because you can't you can't there's no like information I think that's probably a good thing yeah yeah didn't there used to be a website called like anarchist cookbook that had this shit in it that sounds like prime sort of internet dark days yeah like early internet I guess maybe google have blocked it sort of one man one jar days god the image is now replaying in my mind yeah I don't know it's google google's obviously censoring things these days which is probably a good thing in the case of making petrol bombs but if you are looking to access material that's not available in your region you can't do it with NordVPN I feel like there's some jurisdictions maybe you can still if you set your VPN to Russia you can also look at much tamer stuff like sports matches that aren't available in your region or all your favourite shows, content that's not available where you are you can access using NordVPN and we've got an exclusive discount, just go to nordvpn.com forward slash upshot and that link will give you an extra 15%, I think it is, on your plan.
37And there's no risk. It's 30-day money-back guarantee. So if you haven't spent all your money on petrol bonds, then yeah, NordVPN. I put a link in the episode description box as well. And there's a 30 % discount if you threaten them with petrol bonds as well. 30 % discount for Royal Navy offices. Enroll now. Now, losing a family pet can be a pretty traumatic experience. We've all been there. It's very sad. Most people cope by just flicking through small photos, maybe frame their paw print to put on the wall. But a few Polaroids and Mr. Whiskers don't quite cut it when you're a multimillionaire who's used to getting their own way.
19so this week Tom Brady the legendary NFL quarterback revealed that he'd had his pet pitbull Lua cloned before she died so we're looking at a picture of Tom this is an old photo from 2012 or something this is Tom that's the original Lua this is the original Lua yeah and Tom Brady on a scooter for some reason Lua Lua I don't know what she was called but yeah obviously Lua was getting old and Tom couldn't cope with life without her so he got in touch with an American company called Colossal who clone animals Colossal sounds very Jurassic Park because someone's trying to bring back the woolly mammoth that's them that's been happening for years hasn't it is it bullshit I don't know I was on their website and they're saying that they're planning to have live mammoth cubs by 2028 I feel like it's a slippery slope isn't it it's a dangerous game we're playing what as in and it ends with Jurassic Park yeah I'm fucking up for it I'm here for it yeah definitely the woolly mammoths yeah but is the woolly mammoths a bit like Richard Branson saying we're going to go to space it's like when every year you say it's next year yeah they said they're also working on Tasmanian tigers sabre-toothed cats and the dodo as well sick yeah which is cool I'm in but pet dodo yeah but like there's quite shit on there though they can't really fly they're massive podgy animals aren't they hence why they were hunted yeah they must be quite delicious though I reckon is that why they were hunted to extinction I would say because they were just there's a museum that's got stuff one they're massive yeah I feel like at this point if you go for dodos and saber-teeth tigers just go whole hog velociraptors yeah yeah don't clone your fucking labrador yeah exactly you can get one that looks just like it yeah let's get some more dinosaurs please yeah please urgently so is it is it an identical dog then I think that's that's the idea yeah it's usually what clone means yeah
18it's weird it's like similar obviously this is this is like an amazing scientific advancement really but it reminded me a bit of like jeff bezos is going into space thing which you know we were saying before that like back in the back in the 60s when these kind of like incredible advances in human scientific knowledge they were done sort of for the benefit of of humanity whereas now it's like we'll put Katy Perry in orbit and clone Tom Brady's dog it's just basically doing privatised it's just being privatised you're just doing doing weird like things for eccentric yeah but isn't that just how it starts and then soon we'll get our velociraptors yeah I hope it ends with Tom Brady locked in a port-a-loo while his dog ripped tears at the door and devours him so is it that easy then because they did the sheep obviously Dolly the sheep classic TCSC science yeah can they do humans if they want to I think it's I think you're not allowed see now we're getting yeah but you could right could clone Tom Brady as in just scientifically we are able to I'd love to clone myself I'd so be up for it yeah it'd be like that episode of the Simpsons where Bart's evil twins but then I guess this would sort of give more answers to the nature nurture thing because the nature would be identical.
41Yeah, true. Get quite philosophical with it. Yeah, as we are right now. So has he got his dog, the puppies here? Yeah, the puppy. It'd be so surreal. Yeah. It'd be odd, wouldn't it? Apparently, Barbara Streisand did the same thing in 2018. She paid 100 grand to make two clones of her Cotton de Toulay dog. Is that a breed or the dog's name? It's a breed of dog, I believe. That sounds like a lap dog. But also, she made two clones of it. which is were they both born or did she like keep one for the next go I don't know yeah there's something a bit unimaginative about being like I'm gonna have the same dog forever now yeah apparently she was very disappointed because the dog she got back had different personalities and different eye colours so they're not identical you guys stick that in your fucking bite mate I made a fool of myself get you back to the lab back home for me different personalities different eye colours it sounds to me like they popped down to Battersea Dog Centre charged her 100 grand and then slipped whatever they had in a Battersea someone said a number on her there that's just another dog because how would you know that sounds a lot like it's just straight which is genius if you're charging charge her 100 grand would you clone your dog if it was free I find it weird I find it quite traumatic I find it quite it's quite black mirror almost yeah it's not very I feel like it's a bit insulting to their memory
09I agree Alright Well on that note Hugo thanks a lot Thank you very much That was a breath of fresh air JP will hate that Zach thanks a lot Thank you We're heading over to Patreon now Where You've got a few more stories You're going to tell us about Your and your gran's involvement In Mary Ballotelli And actually with a few Your gran pops up a few times Doesn't you Different gran's Oh wow So I've got Yeah I've got A gran on one side A gran on the other Like most people How many have you got Obviously then a cloned one And yeah They're both sort of Inextricably linked to some quite fun Football stories My gran on one side with Malcolm Allison and a few other footballers Let's just say she was quite sort of A loose fun woman back in the day Actually listening Yeah Shout out Grandma Jackie And then the other one with a link to Balotelli and his firework party We'll see you on there.
