In short

The UpShot’s sports-and-scandal roundup, led by a segment claiming Jim Ratcliffe “declares war on children” via Manchester United ticket restrictions tied to suspected touting, plus a Brighton drug scandal, Saudi league transfer money games, and Pakistan cricket culture scandals.

Guests

Jack, Zach, and JP (the regular “full trio” hosts). No guest experts are introduced; they discuss stories among themselves.

  • Saudi clubs allegedly cycle expensive signings (Neymar, Darwin Núñez, Benzema) with deregistrations/loans and huge wages/bonuses.
  • Pakistan’s Ramiz Raja claims players don’t have alcohol problems, but the episode counters with multiple drug/sex/crime scandals.

Notable examples

  • Undertaker presenting a Saudi Super Cup trophy; Neymar’s Instagram Saudi promotion bonuses.
  • Benzema’s alleged underage prostitute/blackmail scandals and alleged backstage assault on heckling youths.
  • Ronnie O’Sullivan mural in Sheffield criticized as unfinished/misleading.
  • Michael Owen golf ban for chipping onto a green after jumping a fence.

56Welcome back, Zach. Hello, Jack. And JP. Buongiorno, fellas. Only a full house. Full house. We are back, baby. Summer's over. Yeah. The fun's over. Yeah. Now it's back to business. Buckle in for the long trudge to winter. Winter is coming. Get your A Mac out. Prepare yourself for some simmering tension in your relationship. And welcome back the full trio. Yep. We're back. It's autumn season. Yep. Zach, most recently away on a jazz festival. just another another two week jazz festival it was constant gorgeous there was a really good comment on YouTube that said something like somewhere in the world Zach is currently raising a glass of red to the words clarinet ensemble pinky out yeah yeah there was some there was some great some great stuff I go to sleep now and I can still hear jazz re-eating cracking a bottle of Chateau Nerve to Paph on a Sunday listening to jazz beautiful gorgeous do you guys have a good transfer deadline day yesterday?

52I really enjoyed Balogun binning off Everton at the last minute after they sold Beto and Ndiaye to make space for him. I didn't realise that apparently Balogun was at the Everton training ground and they'd agreed this 40 million deal. They'd submitted this deal sheet they have to give to the Premier League. They'd submitted that before 11pm. And after that, he then changed his mind and just left. Do we know why? Do we know why? No, it does make you wonder what happened between 11 and 12. What gave him the ear? David Moyes came in with his socks and shoes off and he saw David Moyes' toes. Did it rain maybe?

40Yeah, I mean, that is the other sensible explanation, which is that swapping the Cote d 'Azur for Merseyside. That's a proper last minute change of heart, that, isn't it? Yeah, I mean, Everton have been fucked over it. Do you think he did? You know, we talked about Memo Ochoa, the Mexican keeper earlier this year. He went for the contract talks, like basically agreed the deal and they were like, oh, it's ready for you to sign. He was like, yeah, I'm just going to nip out and get a coffee. And then he never came back. Just ghosted them. Was it that vibe? I think so. He slipped out there. Just went to the bathroom and then they go in with the windows.

14Line bike to the private jet. It's a bit like, you know, Riyad Mahrez, like really early in his career. I think he had a trial at Motherwell, a Scottish club. St. Mirren. St. Mirren. He had a trial at St. Mirren and he hated it so much that one day he borrowed the groundsman's bike and cycled all the way to the airport on a bike. It was freezing. Apparently he just couldn't hack it. I think he did a few months of like Scottish winter. He's got his hand luggage on the handlebars just going down the motorway.

47Fair enough. I mean, when you're coming from Algeria, watch what St. Mirren does it for you, really. There was good drama in Leon as well. As you see, Crystal Palace and Sunderland were both trying to sign Malik Fafana, the winger, and both of them had sent private jets to Leon to pick him up, to bring him over to sign. Both of the jets were sat beside each other in the tarmac at Leon Airport, where he was expecting Harry Redknapp to stick his head out of the pilot's window. hello boys jump in and anyway they're both waiting there the press are you know waiting for him to arrive which planes he's going to get on he does turn up and then ends up getting on a third plane to go and do a medical at this private hospital that was paid for jointly by Crystal Palace and Sunderland because they were still trying to work out where he was going to go eventually he decided to go for Sunderland after Kirill Louis-Dreyfus the Sunderland owner flew over from Sutherland presumably on another private jet and talked to Fafana face to face and got him to sign so four jets bit of traffic he's got some serious carbon credits to pay off once he gets to Weir side but was the third jet for the medical obviously the jointly paid medical was quite sweet actually but was it too weird for him to go on one of the planes to that should we just go Dutch take my plan I like that it's quite it's like a pull the octopus thing it's just which plane he gets on asparagus lady so he's off to wearside he's signed for Sunderland yeah probably the right move speaking of big moves Ollie Watkins has already scored on his debut for Al Hilal fucking Al yeah go on you blue waves that's their nickname if you're wondering and the boss they smashed Al Ali 3-0 that's Ivan Tony's team oh yeah yeah It's like battle of the second choice England strikers.

48Yeah. I'm sure they had a mint tea after. Had a good old laugh about it over a sedated Tiger Cub. But I was, you know, you're probably wondering what drew Ollie Watkins to West Riyadh. Probably the extensive cycle path network around Al-Hilal's ground. The culture. Yeah. Or, you know, maybe the chance to form a strike partnership with Crescenzio Somerville. Or possibly the 250 grand a week salary, which is double the Villa money. and tax-free. So it's 4X really, isn't it? So I was kind of thinking double your villa money doesn't seem that worthwhile. It's the tax. I've done some back of the envelope fag packet stuff.

27So he's basically making an extra 5 million a year after tax. So tax-free 5 million. And I reckon he's made 20 million after tax over his whole career. So he's going to double his... Yeah. He's going to sort of double his... Double his career earnings. It's not the no-brainer you think of when you think of Saudi I thought he'd be on more than that because he's in his prime he's 30 yeah you know yeah I don't know I mean it's obviously yeah you can see you can see why you do it but like they're also he wasn't going hungry at Mr Villa wasn't he a bit greedy he said he left Villa with a heavy heart I'm sure he did got a full pocket now anyway whatever brought Ollie in could have been anything it probably wasn't Al-Hilal's rich history of nurturing striking talent.

15They've had a pretty mad run when it comes to strikers. So it was them who bought Neymar for 90 mil and then paid him 80 mil a year in wages. He played seven games in two years, which meant he cost 25 mil a game, 250 grand per touch of the ball. And they also paid him a 500 grand bonus every time he promoted Saudi on his Insta. That is bonkers. I presume that didn't come out of the club funds, that one. No, it's straight from the Saudis. MBS is chipped in on that. Okay, so then Neymar left and everyone was like, right, let's, you know, there was that moment where they said Saudi league's growing up.

49We're not doing these dumb transfers anymore. Al-Halal then paid 50 million for Darwin Nunez last year. And then after only six months, deregistered him. So he wasn't, you couldn't play him so that they could sign Benzema from a rival Saudi club. Benzema managed 16 games and they've now released him so that Watkins can join. So it's literally like the players are going over there for six months wages or are they paying out the whole contract? Darwin Nunez has been loaned out to another club. Oh, to another club in Saudi. Yeah, Al Dariya, I think, yeah. Merry-go-round. There's something dodgy about this.

22Blood money, merry-go-round. This period of time, guys. There's so much fishing going on here. There really is, like, just the, it's like, I don't know. It feels like sort of money laundering. I think it's just so much cash, you just - They don't know what to do with it. Surely you've done the football manager thing where you make yourself really rich by selling your shit player. And you do, you just start acting like that. You're de-registering Darren Nunez. Anyway, there are like, there's some upside. No, that game against Al-Ali for Ali, that's quite like a big box office game. And there are some exciting silverware opportunities, you know.

56Sure, he's won the Europa League, but wait until he gets into the Riyadh Super Cup, which in 2024 was a three-team tournament that pitted Ronaldo's Al-Nassar side against Neymar's Al-Halal and Messi's Intermayale. Possibly designed by a nine-year-old boy. my favourite bit the Super Cup trophy was presented by none other than The Undertaker here he is and I should say he's in full like he's in character he's in proper undercutter although would it be weird if he was out of character I was thinking here he is those poor kids look fine the children the children next to him and the other go look at the other picture the children it does look like they've won they've won a competition to like design their dream football to America, isn't it?

44In a way, the whole Saudi league must feel a bit like that. You just want to go, like, do what you want. Fair play to the Undertaker. Wrestling is massive in Saudi, isn't it? Yeah. Is it? Yes. Anyway, as for Benzema, that is the end of, I would say, quite a successful three-year stint in Saudi. He did pretty well. So he was previously at Al Itihad, who, they run a pretty tight ship. They're the club who, do you remember when a player got subbed off, he'd had a bad game, and one of their fans pulled out a long whip and gave him a couple of lashes. Have you seen this clip? We've got a clip here.

17I'll link to it if people haven't seen. It is a proper cat o' nine tails. He just leans over the front of the whip, the row, and just whips the player. He's carrying a whip. I was going to say, is there no security? You can't get a fucking bottle of water in the sand of the bridge. He's got to take the cap off. He's got a full whip out. His technique implies he does that a lot. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I don't really want to know why he has it, but yeah, the old cat o' nine tails. And I guess that threat worked because Benzema was good as gold. Yeah, I mean, I think I'd do the same. I suppose if you've got lashings.

51Well, I always think of him as an absolute animal, to be honest. Early years, he had quite a lot of scandals. He was caught shagging an underage prostitute along with Frank Ribery. He then got exiled from the France team for blackmailing Mathieu Valbuena over a sex tape. Yeah, I remember that. So Valbuena took his phone to a repair shop and the guy in the repair shop found a... video of Valbuena shagging his girlfriend on it, blackmailed him, and it turned out this guy was already on the payroll of Benzema's personal company. Benzema's like, take him to the cleaners, got his finger in many pies, including sort of Marseille phone repair shops, local iSmash.

31Anyway, he basically told Valbuena to pay up. He was like, be careful, they're big, big thugs. And then there was a wiretap where they recorded Benzema being, don't worry, I'll make him pay. He said, I'll make him understand, he'll pay. Yeah. So he was convicted for that. Actually, another good one I've heard from his youth that people probably haven't heard. A bit of an exclusive. So back in 2009, Benzema was the face of FIFA. One of the players on the box. He was only 21. And FIFA had an idea for an advert for the new game. They take him back to his old neighborhood in Lyon and get a hero's welcome from all the locals, play a bit of football.

06And he did. The ad itself shows him getting this incredible welcome from his local fans. but when the cameras stopped rolling a couple of local youngsters heckled him just like you know giving him a bit of shit and after the shoot he invited these young scamps backstage and they're obviously really excited they thought they're gonna get like some signed kit yeah inspirational word or two and instead benzemar's entourage basically held these teenagers down while he just punched them and then apparently he then like disappeared through a back door but the production team were left there and like a mini riot broke out fucking hell all these kids apparently it was quite frightening they had to lock themselves in the local school until the police turned out that'll teach him yeah that's great yeah i feel like he he does hang out with some some quite bad dudes spencer but doesn't he yeah he kind of when he won the ballon d 'or it felt like he'd kind of like rebranded because he wore that outfit that made him look quite like he looked like a sort of professor yeah victorian inventor apparently he was actually dressed as Tupac.

06Oh, that was it. I think because he wears glasses, you just assume he's not as frightening. Is he done now? He's 39. But some people are saying Turkey. I mean, given his hairline, it might do him good. He should have gone years ago. It's a bit late for that, actually.

26I don't know. Everton need a striker. I wouldn't mind seeing him in the Prem again. I was thinking surely he could do a job, but people online are saying he's lost. I feel like Turkey makes the most sense. Madrid again? No. Not at 39. I mean, Turkey's working out pretty well for Mo Salah. True. So far, it looks like. He joined Trabzon's ball this summer and he's played three matches, three goals. Great start. Safe to say the people of Trabzon are pretty happy with that return because Trabzon City Council has announced that they are naming a street after him. Surely give him like 20 matches before you do this.

05three. Seem enough. You can take that up with Mr. Mustafa Biak who's the mayor of Travzon who's initiated the official process to rename this street after Salah which yeah you might think is a little premature after three games. It's a little bit like Birmingham retiring Jude Bellingham's shirt when he was 16. He played a season for them when he was 16 and then he left for Dortmund. I saw lots of people during the World Cup people being like everyone was laughing about that you're not laughing now and I think I kind of agree with him even if England had won the World Cup and Drew Bellingham had scored a hat trick I still think it's fucking weird you don't you can't retire a shirt you need to be a club it's punchy but it kind of has worked out he's like our best player yeah but you can't do that for a youth team it's about what you do you need to have some kind of like legacy at the club what do you think Trabs on sport need to do for the Salah one to be justified I think they're already there I don't know I reckon Is it a good street?

03Is he got top scorer? Do you know what I mean? Is it like a bit of a shit street? Is it, yeah, it could be... Like a red light district. Yeah. You want Salah Square is what you want. Is it named after someone who's a bit dodgy? Yeah. They've been looking for a new hero. It's vacant. Yeah. What are they going to do if he wins a lead for them? Salah Square, I think. Rename the city. Yeah. She's called Salah now. Salon Spore. Actually while we're While we're talking tributes Ronnie O'Sullivan Possibly Britain's greatest ever sportsman He's definitely up there In terms of In terms of titles The dominance The dominance of his sport If it's a sport Him and Phil Taylor Who else is there?

49Two sort of sports I mean Andy Murray is probably up there Honestly Lewis Hamilton Yeah Hamilton And Bradley Wiggins I guess Bradley Wiggins Am I thinking of the wrong cyclist? I don't know any big sports Hamilton yeah he's up there anyway and the city of Sheffield is is rightly proud of their hometown hero so when the spot on snooker club in Sheffield unveiled a new mural they they wanted it to be tip top you know it's got to be a a lifelike recreation of the rocket this is what they managed to knock up so this is a we're looking at a picture of a hollowed out Ronnie O'Sullivan leaning over, just taking a shot.

37He looks like he's been a two week bender. Bags under his eyes. I'm getting Michael Jackson Frilla vibes. Yeah, Herman Munster, like Frankenstein's monster. Although I would say, you know, that thing of like, should art like recreate it photorealistic or should it convey the character? Ronnie O'Sullivan, you know, his sort of like depressing late night weed smoking sessions, kind of true I guess maybe that's it I mean it's really depressing for me they've captured the misery of Rodney O'Sullivan it's impressionist yeah the morning light breaking on his stoned face the misery of O'Sullivan is captured for me he's gone he's gone he's missing an upper lip so I don't know what's going on is this finished?

19he looks a bit like what's the one whose nose collapsed because you did too much coke Daniel O 'Wespring oh Daniel O 'Wespring yeah

29i suppose if he's gone for the impressionist vibe you can maybe flag it yeah i've also got to say that they pick the most miserable possible day to take this picture it's just absolutely poor in the golden summer that is an unfortunate bit of time but you know when you see like these murals of like sadio manet and you're like aha that's so shit but you sort of think it's like the capital city has erected this statue or whatever whereas actually Now, it's probably their equivalent of like spot on snooker club. Yeah. I mean, yeah, yeah, yeah. Could be. Do you want to hear how the residents of Sheffield reacted to the mural on the BBC?

05Go on. I've just took the last picture of it and I'm thinking, has Halloween come early? I feel so. Shocking. His eyes are all wrong. His teeth are wrong. Just like Ronnie O'Sullivan. What is he on? Ronnie O'Sullivan looks like somebody from Chicken Run I'm sorry but the mouth looks like a chip mouth looks like a chip chimpanzee when I saw that I wouldn't be welcome to snooker I'd be off like a shot I'd like it actually, you know, brand's the area and you know, it's just, yeah snooker's put a big part of Sheffield's history and culture so yeah, I think it's really nice and that's the artist and I'm thinking, as Halloween come early And I feel sorry for whoever's done it because it's a lot of work, obviously.

51But the rain coming down. Yeah, they've been the worst day ever. Definitely not. I mean, Yorkshire people are not going to pull any punches on that, are they? They're going to give it to you straight. Poor Ronnie. Apart from the one absolute sweetheart who backed him up. Who may or may not be the artist. To be fair, the artist has come out and defended it himself. He says that he's only two weeks into a five-week project on this mural. And he's not going to rush himself. He's going to do it properly. Right. Hopefully he finishes the mouth. Yeah. Do you believe him? That'd be a good place. I'm not sure if I do, to be honest.

28I'm not sure another three weeks is going to fix that thing. Yeah. He also said that part of the reason why it's looking a bit weird right now is because his view of the mural while he was painting it had been affected by the scaffolding. Oh, that'll do it. So normally he uses a scissor lift to get up so he can take a step back. But the land around spot on Snooker Club is too uneven. Just picture me. Land's a bit uneven, isn't it? Effects of brushstroke, does it? Have you got a scissor lift? Not going to be able to do the mouth properly now. By the way, if that's only 40 % finish, it's actually incredible.

07I'm backing. Yeah, I believe. See how that goes. Before the season even kicks off, soccer fans are already making predictions. Who wins the league? Who qualifies for Europe and who's lifting the trophy at season's end? On Calci, America's number one prediction market platform. You're trading against peers in a live market, meaning there's no house. And as the probability changes, you can buy in and out of your position. For more information, see calshe.com slash regulatory. We'll keep you posted. Now, amid all the transfers and summer chaos and jazz festivals, I completely missed the signing of the window. Villa signed Matteo Ruggieri, who is a dirty boy of racist wanking fame, if people have forgotten who he was. So we talked about him in what, June? Where he was at Atletico Madrid. Yeah. And I guess he had to leave Catholic Europe after all his blasphemy. So if people don't remember the story, a woman claims that he paid her 150 euros to send him voice notes where she uttered blasphemous phrases, racist statements, and insults directed at God.

27Specifically, he got her to say pig God, which is illegal in Italy. It's like a religious pay pig. Yeah, it is. But she had quite good evidence. There was like screenshots and stuff. so the dark hand of that um what's his face was involved the paparazzi guy oh uh fabrizio corona yeah the dark hand of fabrizio corona was involved in the story coming out but uh i think our evidence is pretty good anyway villa obviously saw a bit of that and we're like yes please yeah exactly this is this this is a squad rebuild we must out with the racist wanker but shout out to Dom who messaged JP's tips line to let us know that Villa fans have a new nickname for him Rugger the Tugger yeah I'd rate it yeah aren't there loads of only fans from that area like Birmingham Nottingham all the other Darbyshire Darbyshire yeah do they do weird racist requests I'm pretty sure for the right money they'll do whatever you want I think the specific thing he got her to say is he got her to tell him that she was racist and then he got off on that right the racist statements themselves if that's any better yeah Was she doing, was there like actual sexual stuff as well?

38Was it just the racist stuff? No, I think she just said that and was just like, pig God. And then she played a voice note in which you could hear him. He's got a really distinctive voice. It's really, really, it's quite deep. And yeah, he was either scratching something off his jeans or yeah, he was getting off. I think given the situation, I doubt it. I think he was jingling the change in his pocket. Makes sense. 25:28So when her son Rory was born six years ago, she immediately signed him up for a season ticket as well. And he's had one since before COVID. He's been a mascot leading the players out onto the pitch. a diehard fan from birth. But that did not stop Jim Ratcliffe branding Rory a tout and barring him from buying more tickets for Man United games. So the snoops at Man United have been claiming that Rory's account has been used on a computer that has also suspiciously accessed several other season ticket accounts. So they're basically suggesting that his ticket is in the hands of touts. Kids these days.

13And what, he's been... He's barred from buying tickets for... It's tough, but it's probably fair. Yeah. He looks guilty. You can't trust him. He does, yeah. Is this him? This is a picture of the touts. He looks proper. He looks like a proper wrongman, doesn't he? He looks rough. I've seen him outside Bubble World flogging tickets before. Yeah. He's been driving up prices at Peppa Pig World for ordinary fans for years now. I will buy or sell Pedro Pony's photo kiosk buy or sell don't let that cute face fall you yeah the thing is wrongun he's often the tip of the iceberg really this touting for a sort of deeper criminal enterprise yeah that kid he's been he sells malams at nursery as well for inflated prices he's got he's cornered the market yeah he's a wrongun absolute wrongun so and what's the defense so the defense the case for the defense uh which comes from katie his mom she says that she runs the accounts for all 19 people in her block you know this this group of her friends and family who all sit together she sorts out when they can't go they you know just transfer tickets between them that is her explanation for it uh do we believe her it's a good it's a good excuse i think mom's trying to take the rap there isn't she i yeah i think that this is another case of Jim Ratcliffe clumping down on Man United fans in any way that you can.

40I think they've both got to go, Jim. Yeah. Ban them. Life ban, I think. It's about fair. They're profiteering. It's disgraceful. Yeah. Because Jim Ratcliffe did introduce the crackdown on ticket touting, right? He's been cracking down on ticket... I mean... He's cracking down on everything. Cracking down on ticket touting is a good thing. But I think there's been... it seems quite a lot of innocent victims caught in the crossfire at Old Trafford. Among them, 81-year-old Michael Carney, who he's been going to Old Trafford for 74 years. He was there in the dark days of Walter Crickmere. But all of that loyal support counts for nothing now because Man United told him last season that he was being moved to make space for corporate hospitality.

32He's got a good sign. Bless him. We're looking at a picture of him here with a sign reading, I was sat here before you were born. That was a fucking good word. Slows in. Yeah. Or you'll never sing that. Yeah. I've been sat here since I was born. Also, do you need a season ticket when you're like zero? Yeah, true. Yeah. Is it hard? You want to get your name down? Yeah, yeah. That's dedication. Okay, put it in some language. I can understand. It's like trying to get into your local nursery. Right.

06but yeah so Michael Carney 81 years old he's got top seats just between the dugouts and the director's box best seats in the house and he's had it for decades but apparently now before every match he gets an email from Man United saying just you know Michael if you can't maybe make this game then just let us know and we'll give you the money back for it are you feeling unwell today Michael? yeah okay Have another pork pie. Have a break. Have three at the moment. It's all us. It's all us. Have a beer. Have another beer and a Bovril. Unfortunately, your car parking space has been moved three miles away.

45It's just a short walk. You'll be fine. So what? They then, they then, they basically, they want him out. They want his seat back. For the chief marketing officer of Tezos. They resell his seat for 250, 300 quid for, every game that he can't make it to. And is he in the bit that's being redeveloped so there's going to be like a fucking Gordon Ramsay restaurant or something? Yeah, exactly. That actually happened to my dad at Twickenham, guys. I know exactly how he feels. Got moved. For the microbrewery. Got moved for the posh restaurants. And let me tell you, Michael, it ain't the same after. Because I saw Michael is considering not going anymore.

24You get split up from all your mates. Yeah, it's awful. Did you see Burnham? His thing was, I want to still go to he goes to every Everton game I want to still go and sit in my usual seat and he was like I'm going to do it I'm going to do it and then like the day of the game the police were like well if you stay in your seat everyone around you has to move so we can have bodyguards so he had to watch it in the director's box he's moving up in the world I think Keir Starmer would try want us to do the same I thought he was is he a Fulham fan I bet he is he's Arsenal he's Arsenal yeah I really he strikes me as a Fulham fan he does he really strikes me as a Fulham fan what are you trying to say he's got that level of pep so he definitely sounds like it his voice sounds like a full of yeah is michael carney being moved then forcibly yeah i think he is i think he i think he is that was the uh that was the that was the uh talking of clubs cracking down on crime there is a scandal coming out of brighton and hove albion this week so they've implemented a new policy to help with preparation for the players before the game.

25And instead of the players driving in, Brighton have started to organise mini bus taxis to pick groups of players up from around the South Coast and bring them into the stadium. And you kind of get it, you know, you know, helps the team building. Sounds like a school trip. Yeah, it's like a school bus. Imagine like Evan Ferguson giving Minto a noogie on the back of the bus as you walk in. Farting in a packet of prawn cocktail crisps and popping it. I think I'd rather drive in. Yeah. But anyway. And all in all, it sounds like quite a big coup for this taxi company. It's the sort of contract that really puts you on the map.

Read the full transcript

00You can imagine the boss of the cab firm ringing the lads before saying, we've done a deal with Brighton here. We're going to be taking the team back and forward every match. Make sure you bring your A-game, lads, because we're a Premier League taxi firm now. Well, it turns out one driver did bring his A-game, but it was more A in terms of the class of drugs that he was sniffing rather than driving skills. so this one driver picked up the lads and dropped them off for this pre-season game and obviously you've got a bit of time to kill they've got to play the game warm down or whatever and apparently you know this one driver wandered into this sort of out of bounds area at the ground and CCTV kind of picked him up because he was acting a bit suspiciously and he was caught whilst waiting doing a line of white powder off his hand while he was waiting for the Brighton players.

53I was about to ask, was it off his hand? It just had that vibe, didn't it? No tools. Behind the bike shed. Quick half grab on your thing. Anyway. So he got caught? He's been caught. And needless to say, obviously, the driver's been arrested and the cab firm have been sacked. Never got home quicker, though. As I say, nothing like a quick bump before you whisked Matoma back to Lansing, is there? just a sharpener yeah it's what Pascal Gross expects so yeah this poor cab firm who had their big contract with Brighton they're what it's back to taxi rank for kebab shop pickups at three yeah it's a lift zone with the club staff but yeah I suppose not gonna lie the minibus sounded pretty fucking fun that didn't it doesn't really strike me as very Premier League I thought Premier League like Premier League players that's the whole reason they've got their fucking blacked out yeah exactly surely they've got like the big air conned bus if you know what I mean it's not a minibus yeah it's not like a shitty minibus but they have got a cokey driver from the local minicab so god fucking hell imagine driving one of those things on coke driving one of those massive you know those roads around the Amex as well are quite like country lady feel yeah that's not a situation I think it sounds fucking fun yeah some cheese on boombox probably if you had to do one drug in that situation it probably would be that wouldn't yeah yeah couple of pills did I I remember talking about the time I went to the the Fulham Players car park it was like last game of the season years ago and I wanted me and my cousin we wanted to go get like autographs or whatever and I was doing I had my like GCSE English exam the next day so in my bag the only thing that I had with me was my copy of The Rime of the Ancient Mariner and that was I didn't have anything I didn't have anything for the players to sign so I ended up getting you had a signed copy I've got the only the only copy of Samuel Taylor Coleridge's Rime of the Ancient Mariner that's been signed by both Damien Duff and Chris Baird that is the that is the most Fulham autograph of all time

12can you please bring that in for an ear I'll try and find it I've still got it somewhere Priceless merch, mate. Chris Baird. Chris Baird and Damien Duff. FA Cup finalist Chris Baird. Did either of them acknowledge the text? The importance of the text. That's a classic, that is. No, I can't sign that. Do you want me to sign around a particular stanza? Favourite page? Just like the use of enjambamont. It's a great poem. It's a great poem. I'll try and bring it in. Oh, that's amazing. That's good. That's really good. If anyone else has had something very unusual autographed, I'd like to hear it. Yeah.

54I went and watched George Holland once, and I went outside for a fag, and the lead singer of Led Zeppelin came out, because they were doing an acoustic set. And I was like, oh, can I have your autograph? And he just stubbed out his fag and gave me the fag butt. That's sick. Yeah, so I've got his fag butt. You've still got it? Yeah. I feel like there would be groupies back in the day who are like trying to clone a child off the saliva on that. It's quite old school asking for an autograph. It doesn't really happen much anymore apart from those autograph hunters. Yeah, because that's signed memorabilia like the rhyme of the Ancient Mariner.

29You're only doing it to resell to fucking Rory at Old Trafford. He knows a guy. He can shift that sort of merch. Yeah, no, it's selfies now, isn't it? When was the last time you got someone's autograph? Probably the other. Chris Baird, rhyme of Ancient Mariner. Next question. the thing is once you once you got chris bernard you're copying the road with the no autographs at the jazz festival no uh unfortunately not you didn't want to get like father john misty actually speaking of meeting led zeppelin jack our producer was saying to me that his dad was in an airport and there was what appeared to be a very good looking woman in the queue in front of him and he was really checking her out and then the good looking woman turned around and it was in fact, Robert Plant from Led Zeppelin.

16He is a right looker. He's gorgeous. Quite surreal. Yeah. He only had no shoes on either, which is probably what attracted your dad. Obviously a foot man. Everyone knows that. Can you just sign my feet? Can I sign your feet? It's quite a funny turnout there to go from like, oh, she's quite attractive to like, oh, Robert Plant. Still would. Yeah, absolutely. Now, Pakistan have been having a right old shit show against England in the cricket. They got spanked twice. They've got one game left and they've decided to sack their coach. He's only been there five games. They've sent seven players home mid-tour.

57It's all quite unprecedented. But there is one thing that Pakistan is still comfortably being England on, and that is lack of drunken scandals, which has been a theme for England. So the former Pakistan captain, Ramiz Raja, he was on commentary on BBC, and he said, Pakistan players will never have a problem with alcohol. During the 1992 World Cup, the Australia dugout would have 15 jars of lager and we would have 15 jars of milk. So I think that's worse. Curdling in your stomach. I'd just like to be the first person to say that is fucking bollocks. Pakistan are the scandal team. Right, so only 18 months after that World Cup, four members of that squad were arrested for smoking weed on a beach with a couple of female tourists.

40Ramiz's own brother once went on a drunken rampage in a hotel after Pakistan dropped him smashed up a load of mirrors and in the end the only way they could get him to calm down was to say alright you can play after all just let him play give baby his bottle yeah it's one of those you've either got to stand down the whole tantrum or just give in yeah don't let him have the tantrum then give him few other favourites of recent years Muhammad Asif was detained at Dubai airport for possession of opium fucking hell you've got to surely that'll get your hands out Go. I know. I find the weirdest bit.

11Jesus. He was detained for like a week or two and then they let him go. Dubai. I thought that. Is that like a celeb? You know how they say that in like Saudi and stuff, if you're a celeb, you can just like drink, do drugs and like, you know, all the rest. Is it like that? You got to get out of jail for a record. Well, he got out. He got out. Shahab Akhtar, the fastest bowler ever. he was ruled out of Pakistan's T20 World Cup in 2009 because he had genital warts would that stop you playing? yeah I think it can I've heard it can be quite painful and like you can't run is it also and he was all about running fast the Raul Pindi Express which is he bad as well because if you've got to wear a box oh yeah I suppose it heats up I know you're quite fixated on boxes when cricket comes up you want to know what's in them what do you like about them?

03I'm just quite yeah the concept of them I just remember at school when we played cricket at school and they just had a a box of communal boxes make sure sure of Haktar's not had that before that's probably where it started the first race apparently he told the Pakistan board just like you know can you just say I've got a thigh strain but they hated him he'd fallen out with them a few times so they just said yeah no he's out with genital warts it did lead to this great caption I think this is the telegraph it says under the photo of him Shoaib Akhtar is itching to return to duty he does look like he's in a lot of pain there apparently they can become cauliflower like florets I was googling it don't google image it would be my advice knob rot no laughing matter cauliflower cheese not his only scandal two years earlier on the eve of the 2007 world cup Shoaib got in a dressing room fight with Shahid Afridi tried to smack him with a cricket bat but Afridi ducked at the last minute and he accidentally smacked another teammate.

04But yeah, that was sort of the team culture anyway, because the same year their captain, Inzamam Olhak, got on an argument with a fan who called him a fat potato, climbed into the stands and hit him over the head with his bat. That's why you bring a whip. Do you think whip beats bat in close quarters? Well, you've got more, I think long range, you'll be able to get a few more shots off. Well, as Inzumarm is waddling towards the rope, you've got to whip as much as possible. I think once you get past the whip, because whipping close range is not great, right? Yeah, hand-to-hand combat. Yeah, bat's doing you in.

40Fat potato wins. We had anything on your tips line, JP? Tips line has been absolutely popping off this week, lads. And it is golf that is giving us the goodies. So Ivan has written in and he said, I play golf in Northrop on a fairly regular basis and Michael lives just off the ninth tee. Michael Owen, this is. He has, and I have this on good authority, been banned from the club for jumping the fence after dark and chipping onto the third green that's by his drive. So apparently Michael, you know, obviously been banned. He's doing what he can to try and get the ban lifted. Apparently he's appealed to the club and signed off the letter, Michael Owen, Ballon d 'Or winner.

25yeah i can see that i think if you've won it you might as well try and yeah yeah i mean it's cunty as hell but it is it is but i like i kind of like it i also don't like that that is the thing of his career that he's picked out is he not like michael owens presumably won some pretty big trophies yeah well he did the shit much as treble he did the shit much trouble yeah yeah I guess in terms of the cup winner in terms of individual accolade in football that is probably the biggest you can get yeah you would name the best footballer in the world I actually think it's fair yeah what else are you going to put Europa League winner yeah that's the one you know that that like presentation he made when he was trying to get a club and it was like words associated with Michael Owen and it was like clean and fresh could have put that to be fair that story implies a naughtier side because you know we were saying last week his doc's out and it's unbelievably dull Yeah, it's had some bad reviews.

19You should have had more stories like that. Yeah. There's a really good review in The Independent. It says, Meet the Owens review. So tedious it begins to feel like a joke, albeit one without a punchline. Ouch. One star. Yeah. Ouch. It will bore you to tears. Have you watched it? No. I've had a look at some clips, obviously, for professional purposes. I'd probably give it a go. I'd quite like to watch it, actually. Really? Just for laughing at rather than with. Anything else on the tips line? Oh, yeah. So this fellow who we can't name plays with a load of rich guys in Scotland. And this crew apparently cut about on highlight helicopters.

55They play on the best courses that Scotland has to offer. You know, it's proper high roller stuff. And this crew wanted to put some bets on on the round. And we're asking around if there was any bookies that they could do sort of specialist bets with. And they got put in touch with this fellow called Ari. And this fellow called Ari apparently really knows his stuff. So they get put in touch and the bookie starts ringing him, pricing the round, taking the cash, and things start really rolling. And there's a bet on this one player and he had to shoot 26 Stableford points, which is 10 below handicap.

29Very boring. And apparently thousands were being put on this bet with this guy. So it was like really high stakes. And on the last hole, the player shot 26. So it meant that the bookie had won and the bookie won big. so all of the guys were like who is this guy blah blah blah blah is he about is he on the course and the bookie wasn't on the course that day because apparently he'd done his back in but the bookie was apparently harry rednapp what's he's now he's a bookie now i kind of see it doesn't surprise me just for just for laughs yeah because if you're high rollers like that and you want a custom bet i guess you need like you need a link and harry rednapp is He would be quite fun.

12He's an illegal bookie. Can I just point out something quite suspicious? This guy who's obviously reasonably handy at golf shot 26 on the final hole to just about ensure that Harry Redknapp's first game. I'm sorry. Not since a dog having his own bank account have I heard something as questionable as that. It is a bit of a questionable one. 26? Is that not the whole game? I thought that was... I thought he said he shot 26 on the final hole. Maybe it wasn't. I might have misunderstood that. Some sort of boring golf. Shot 26 on the final hole to just win it for the bookie. Yeah, that's, yeah. Just knocking it about the green.

47I do like the image of Harry doing something like that. Yeah. I always think being a bookie would be really fun like that. Yeah, especially like an illegal one. Is it legal? I don't know. Well, you're not really supposed to do that, are you? Unlicensed. So if you've been in an illegal betting ring with a former Premier League manager or maybe you've been chipping on the ninth of a Ballon d 'Or winner, we want to hear from you. You can hit me up on the JP hotline 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The number, we'll put a QR code on screen as well, is 07354 079 834. Text don't call. Text don't call.

22I won't pick up. Stop calling the middle of the night, please. It could be important. Finally, guys, probably wondering, what's Andros eating this week? Oh, God. You know, where'd you go after the hard boiled eggs? This week, Andros has mostly been eating chicken feet, including the bones, raw peppers and orange in one dish together which he says is high in collagen yeah he's basically saying protein powder is a processed shite why do that when you can just just eat food eats but he literally eats the bones and the cartilage of the chicken feet is he boiling them yeah they look cooked i don't know they might be fried chicken feet is a thing i tried i tried chicken feet once i was horrible i mean you're really gnawing away to get anything It's a bit like frog's legs, but shitter.

09But yeah, the bones. I'm not going through the bones. I'd say out of all the shit that he's eaten, it's not too bad this week. Raw peppers and oranges. I just think also the raw peppers and oranges is quite weird. Raw peppers and oranges, that's like... High in vitamin C. Let's get the picture up so you can see how he's... Is your concern how the orange has been? I'm just wondering, is it like a smoothie? No, no, no. It's all whole. Oh, Jesus. Around 70 % of the protein in chicken feet is collagen. Oh God, he's put that boiled chicken feet. It probably looks like a fur as well. Yeah, that's just boiled chicken feet.

40He's eating the smaller bones. Yeah, he's not far off a tinfoil hat, that one, is he? I think it is for attention and it's working. Here we are, but keep it coming, Andros. Bring out your dross. All right, I think that's all we've got time for. We've had a bit of breaking news. Some shocking news has reached us at Upshot Towers. Yeah, we've stopped the press, held the front page of the pod. JP stormed out when he heard the news. Yeah, that's right, everyone. Katie Price has dumped Lee Andrews for good after discovering that his net worth is just£2.22. The biggest shock hit this organisation. Since Lee Andrews didn't buy Chelsea.

24Exactly. So basically he's in jail at the moment in the UAE because he owes a fine that he can't pay, which probably an alarm bell, Katie. Anyway, she said that he gave her the passphrase, you need to get into his crypto account, which he said is where all his money is. He'd previously shown her a screenshot saying it had$31 million in it. So you're probably hoping... And he then gave her the, just gave her the login. Yeah. To what? To just... Well, I don't know. Yeah, to get money out, probably to pay off his fine. I think he's desperate. It's time to come clean. So she got a financial expert to help her get into it.

57and they discovered that the total value of the crypto in there was£2.22. So, game's up. And she said, I've come to my senses and she's now dumped him by text. Which I don't think you'll see because he's in jail. No. I'm glad that she's finally realised that. I mean, we've been covering this for a while and the writing was on the wall. At the beginning. From the very, very start. I think she's in on it. She has to be. Do you think? What is like a whole, I mean, We've talked about Katie Proyes more than we have for a long time. More than we should have. I guess it's given her a lot of airtime, hasn't it?

34But then he is in jail. I guess he's not buying Chelsea now. I mean, we'll see. Never see. Yeah. Yeah. I think that£2.22 will fulfil much ambition for a new central midfielder. So there's a quote from The Sun, said, Katie told a pal. So Katie told The Sun, I've come to my senses. Lee has lied and lied and lied. I'm sick of it. and then a source said she'll never go to Dubai to see Lee again the final straw came after Lee told Katie he had 50 million dollars in a crypto wallet promised her some of the funds yeah and she discovered it contained£2.22 but apparently he had used AI to show her screenshots previously he also used AI to look at a picture of him with Kim Kardashian and Elon Musk at the launch for a flying car so I like the idea that Katie for me that would have been the point where I would I would start to have a few doubts but I like the idea of her still bought in on that stuff and being like what's Elon going to say when you tell him you can't pay for the flying cars anyway yeah we thought we'd have to bring you that bit of drama even though we finished recording the pod it's simply too important to wait a whole week we held the press but that is all thanks a lot Zach we'll be back if you're a Patreon member we're back on Thursday with a two-parter on Mr.

46Vinnie Jones it is it's an absolute rip-roarer because he's basically mental his whole career even in Hollywood which neither of us new. No, I didn't know much about his post-football career. I mean, you've seen the films, but you don't realise that there's actually as much violence and drama going on off the camera. He's biting people on the head. He's threatening air stewardesses to have them killed. He's getting involved in Russian honey trap romance scandal. It's all happening. Yeah. So if you're not a member already, patreon.com forward slash Upshot Towers. Otherwise, we'll see you next Tuesday.

21Thanks, Zach. Thanks a lot. Cheers. Thank you.
