In short

AFCON and African football scandals and oddities, moving from AFCON 2023 drama (Ivory Coast’s late manager change, Nicholas Pépé’s omission) to FIFA eligibility controversies (Equatorial Guinea striker Emilio Nsue), Egypt/Liverpool fallout (Mo Salah dropped), Nigeria’s administrative/constitutional disputes and Libya hostage-style travel incident, and historical World Cup farce under Mobutu (Zaire/Zaire bonuses stolen, threats, 9-0 and 3-0 losses). It also covers Ghana squad disharmony (Jordan Ayew affair voice-note scandal) and AFCON 2021 officiating/organizing chaos, plus a modern “landlord from hell” story involving ex-Ghanaian Arsenal player Emmanuel Frimpong.

Guests

Moses Dukrell, content creator and former professional footballer (played for Barnet, League Two; scholarship age 16–18; trained during Edgar Davids’ Barnet era).

Key claims/examples

57Hello, Zach. Hi, Jack. Hello and we are joined by content creator and former professional footballer Moses Dukrell. Hello, hello, hello. Good to see you. Thank you for having me. Actual footballer. We've moved up in the world. Done with comedians now. Well, it's like a level, isn't it? It's like footballer and then it's like me. Well, hang on. You played for Barnet? Yeah, I did. I did. League two at the time. That was an interesting time. Scholarship times. I think I was 16 to 18 when I was at Barnet. Very interesting experience there. This was Edgar David's era of Barnet, wasn't it? Yes, it was.

33Edgar David's, I think he came in 2013. So I was like a first year scholar at that point in time. And the story about Edgar David, so I remember I was like 16 or 17. And then I saw Edgar David's like at the Hive. That's where they train In Cannons Park Like North West London I saw him around the training And I was like What the hell Like Ek Damage is here Like Same guy Jacob Benito He's also one of the most Recognisable people You're never going to be You're going to be like It's another guy With dreads and goggles Exactly So I was like This is so weird And obviously everyone was like Buzzing around the training ground And at this point in time I used to use Twitter Like a lot so obviously i saw edgadavis at the training ground and i just assumed some certain things obviously no announcement that had been made so i've gone on twitter and i've tweeted oh my god edgadavis is signing for barnet before the club has said anything and obviously at this point in time i'm in my bio i've got barnet fc obviously i was buzzing about it so i just tweeted it thinking nothing of it at the time and then i remember bbc sport um sky sports espn sports all of these pages are messaging me like is this true is this true is this true and i was like why are they messaging me for like i don't i don't get like why are they messaging me and then um i've gone home now i've completely forgotten about it and i get a call from the under 21s manager for Barnett.

10So I'm thinking, oh my God, I'm getting a call out. I'm getting a call out, you know. So I picked up the phone, I was like, how you doing Andy, you all right, mate? He's like, yeah, Moses, you all right? I was like, yeah, I'm sweet, I'm sweet. Then he's like, did you tweet about Edgar Davis signing for Barnett? And I was like, oh yeah, yeah, that was me. You know, I tweeted about that. That's cool. Thinking that when are you going to get on to when I'm playing for the under 21s? And then he was like, you stupid effing idiot. Why would you do that? I was so confused. I wasn't media trained or anything like that at all.

44He was like, look, you're going to have to come into the training ground tomorrow, speak to the chairman. He's not happy with you. You could lose your contract after this. So I was like, okay, maybe I shouldn't be like a news reporter at that point in time. Saw the chairman the next day. And I basically had to write, I felt like Bart Simpson. write lines like an apology to the chairman written apology written apology like handwritten as well like back in the did the chairman say I want you to write me yes so I wrote I wrote it I had a little meeting with him and he was like basically just don't do it again but yeah I broke the news that Edgar Davids was like for Barnett at the time so it was insane it was insane yeah did Edgar know it was you I don't think he did I don't think he did he didn't really seemed to care about anything else aside from like his image of playing for barnet because i believe he was at crystal palace just before he came to us i say us like i'm still there but um he obviously went to barnet for free so they weren't paying him anything or anything like that and play manager he just wanted i guess once you you've played at the level that he's played at you know champions league winner play multiple world cups and won multiple league titles you still kind of have like the ego that I'm still like a really good player and this level's like beneath me I think he got like three red cards in his first 10 games don't quote me on that I know there's like HMRC of football but I can't be like hey no he didn't but I remember him getting sent off quite a few times while I was there and he used to call up someone like the younger boys to train in the first team and he completely just wiped them out and said like you can't you haven't got that much time on the ball blah, blah, blah, blah.

30But the most iconic thing that he used to do was, you know, the Bentley Continental GT, like that very nice car. Very, it's like he was driving there. He used to drive it onto the training pitch. Like there was like a mound that overlooked the training pitch. You used to drive it up there whenever it was raining and just watch the first team train. Sitting in his car and just watch the first team train. Literally like that. I'm like, you're supposed to be taking like the training sessions or at least training. but yeah that was that was a time with Edgar Davis there. Wasn't there a bit where he he wouldn't do away games he would only manage home?

06Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah and he took the number one shirt from um from Graham Stack so Graham Stack was a goalkeeper obviously ex-arsetal player he'd been around different clubs but Graham Stack was that number one when I first went to the club Edgar Davis came in and said I want the number one shirt. yeah actually before we start you can follow moses at moses duckrill on everything everything twitch because i started streaming now um instagram tiktok youtube well linkedin linkedin literally it's most likely to do as well i don't use it though but you know

48all right should we should we kick off should we yeah take us back to last year's yeah so so obviously ivory coast are the reigning champions yes um at our expense by the way nigeria your boys in the final last year we still have the best kit though as you can yeah nigeria do every year there's because there's the like zigzag one that you see you see around a lot this one is that's it that's a really nice one from like russia wearing that shirt yeah yeah oh wow okay yeah um but yeah they were beaten in the final last time by ivory coast who had a mad tournament oh yeah because they they were hosting it last time and they were one of the favourites but then had terrible start group stage they lost to Nigeria actually and then got smashed 4-0 by Equatorial Guinea and then sacked their manager and then sacked their manager after the group mid-tournament I don't think I've ever heard of that before sacking the manager mid-tournament somehow they they managed to scrape through on I think they were one of the best third place teams in the group so I got through and yeah the assistant manager took over and look yeah it looked like they were going to be humiliated really but somehow somehow led them to glory beat beat nigeria in the final obviously um and he's he's still in charge now and you might have noticed that there was a glaring admission from their squad nicholas pepe yes the former arsenal man um who the the manager said he left him out for non-sporting reasons which I mean there's a couple things yeah yeah because I mean he's had a really good season he's playing really well for Villarreal now great celebration as well this is a yeah it's a great celebration yeah you didn't see it too often in the Premier League no no no but yeah there's speculation that the reason he's been left out is because he's dating porn star Tiana Trump who Moses I'm sure you'll you'll remember her from her work in Massive Asses 9

49More of a massive asses seven. Yeah. By nine, the franchises. Is massive asses a bit like Star Wars? They did like seven, eight, nine and then... Episode one. I plead the fifth for any other... No, I heard that it was because of... He had made comments about Ronaldo. That he said that he didn't like Cristiano Ronaldo. He wasn't a fan of Cristiano Ronaldo. but the coach on Ivory Coast is a fan of Ronaldo like a big fan of Ronaldo this is like when we were saying that Afcon's like the antidote to everything you hate about modern football and then you realise they're just picking teams on like who is the GOAT CR7 would you mean that Ronaldo's not the GOAT and I read that and I was like wait a second what that doesn't make any kind of sense that can't be I saw that because I saw the the Tiana Trump one obviously they're going strong.

44I think they're getting A couple of years they've been going out. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. I mean, me personally, I don't feel like I have the strength to do that, you know, but everyone's different. To star in a porn film or to date someone who has? Either. Either, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I don't think I have the confidence to star in one and I don't have the confidence to be with him. Not in the running for massive asses 10. But to drop him from the squad because of that. Yeah, it seems harsh. Absolutely. Yeah, because Yeah, you could say he's got laser focus. Was he ever like a fixture in the Ivory Coast team?

16He was, yeah. He was one of their better players, yeah, for sure. One of their main players in, I guess, the last African in their lead up to qualifying for the World Cup as well. So that's why everyone was like, this is such a strange omission from him. Yeah, he's been playing well for Villarreal. Yeah, I mean, they're one of the favourites. Also, we mentioned Equatorial Guinea before because they beat Ivory Coast in the last African. and they were sort of, they were one of the big success stories of the last tournament. They won the group, made it to the quarters. A lot of their success was down to veteran striker Emilio Nsue, who he won the golden boot at the last AFCON and he was a real national hero there until FIFA intervened and declared that his entire international career with Equatorial Guinea was void.

06All of it. The whole career. They basically discovered that back in 2011, Emilio had been subbed on for the final 60 seconds for Spain at the under 21 euros against Czech Republic. Wait, and that can't? And yeah, so he was then, he was basically cup tied to Spain. Oh, wow. And, you know, he'd been playing for Ecuador or Guinea for 11 years. Led them at three AFCONs. He was their all time top goal scorer. And FIFA just decided that. just voided everything they voided it all no not just for that yeah 60 seconds for one minute but it wasn't even for the first team exactly is that the rule if it's age group apparently so they have actually rode back on it now FIFA and I think there must have been like a massive outcry in yeah yeah because of the guinea understandably and the rest of the they're legends just like they're legends imagine if like Harry Kane turned that as they probably never happened yeah I guess the biggest start of the tournament has to be Mo Salah right in any tournament really yeah yeah as a Liverpool fan as well I feel like what he said in regards to feel like he's being thrown under the bus or how he feels about you know not playing being dropped for three games which was a week he was valid in feeling that way I can't really police anyone's feelings what I can police though is the timing because he was gonna be going to afcon back a week later yeah so when when this all broke uh a spokesperson for the egyptian fa told the press when liverpool played in milan all of egypt supported into milan that's how angry they were really yeah they turned on liverpool because he was left at home because mo wasn't playing yeah yeah um i i mean i i knew he was popular in egypt i hadn't realized how popular because he's never played for either of the big two clubs yeah yeah So he's like, he's not divisive.

04In fact, he's so popular there, he's known as the fourth pyramid. Wow. According to the BBC, during the 2018 presidential election in Egypt, more than one million Egyptians crossed out the candidates' names and wrote Mo Salah on their ballot. Which means he came second. Would you say he's like probably the most influential Egyptian player to... Yeah, we got Mido. Mido, he was a good player though. he was a great player he was good Zaki as well getting a million votes in the presidential election I can't even if you love a player like I'm very grateful for Harry Kane's goals for England but like I'm not even putting him on the parish council number 10 but you think about George Weyer he's is he the president of he was insanity great player though great player not to say that I watched him play because obviously I was too young but seen the clips yeah I've seen the clips his son's playing in the World Cup, I guess.

00Yeah, for the US. Politics and football have. Drogba ended the war in Ivory Coast, the civil war. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I forgot what year that was. I don't know if Mo Salah has any actual ambitions. Probably not, you know. You're probably looking for that. I think he could do what he wants in Egypt. Yeah. Celebrate Christmas as well. Do you remember last time he fell out with Liverpool when he started, when he wanted a new contract and they weren't giving it to him? a couple of seasons ago and he started he gave interviews sort of being it was literally at this time last year yeah yeah so we've been here before and at that point Jurgen Klopp actually did quite a good job diffusing it he sort of said he praised Mo Salah he did make quite a weird comment he said Mo Salah Mo Salah is the most loyal Egyptian I've ever met in my life the most loyal yeah most loyal Egyptian yeah I don't think he meant to say it like that I think he meant to mean like Has he met disloyal Egyptians?

00Well, so it begs the question, who's the competition? So I don't know if he's ever been on holiday to Sharm el-Sheikh, but the only other Egyptian Jurgen Klopp has managed was at Dortmund, Mo Zidane, the striker. And Mo Zidane was accused of feigning injury to avoid international duty. And he was later jailed for six years for defrauding his business partner. So it is accurate. There's some truth there. Mo Zidane's more loyal than that. It's about right. It was a low bar, to be fair. Yeah, I don't exactly know the details of Mo Zidane's fraud. Could say it was a pyramid scheme. Oh my God. Just off the cuff, that one.

38Definitely didn't think about that. I'm so annoyed at myself, I didn't think about that. Damn, that's a good one. Actually, there's another fellow in the Egypt squad who they might not be feeling too sure they can rely on. Emama Shaw, he's seriously a good player. Actually, at the last AFCON, he was like, threatening to be their hero starred in the group games and in the last 16 then they went into their knockout game against DR Congo you know is he going to be the star who gets them over the loan unfortunately M-Am didn't play any part in the game because in training the week before he did a backflip and concussed himself wait so he he celebrated a goal in training with a backflip landed on his head insanity ruled out and they lost on pens did they lost the game yeah they lost on pens I'm not saying he would have saved them but nice to have the option Yeah He probably doesn't remember That now though Does he?

28That's what I'm saying He doesn't remember Doesn't remember the goal That's insane He's there this year Can you imagine The look on the manager's face When he just sees him Like cartwheeling Doing backflip He's got his training In training Yeah Did that ever happen In your professional football career People doing like Mad training celebrations I can't say like Any Like Not to that degree No Like sometimes You can get competitive In training But backflip After scoring I'm pretty sure There was a story I think it was Charles and Zogbia who do you remember he used to do that comeback celebration but he was at another club before Newcastle I want to say it was Liverpool but he never played a game for and in a pre-season game he he like scored a goal celebrated doing a backflip broke his leg and never played for the club for fuck's sake I think it was him it was definitely I mean that is the thing with backflips if you don't pull it if you don't land it mate if you don't stick it that's what training's for yeah okay we put it that way he was training for when he's doing it Okay Edgar Davis would have Beeped his horn In appreciation Flash the lights Good job

34Oh should we talk Nigeria? We shall Yes we should Yeah Africa's biggest population Squad pack with stars Victor Ossiman Adam Olin-Lukman Iwobi Iwobi Bassey You know Chikareli We're coming out mid-tournament So I can't I don't want to make any prediction Of course Of course Who knows who knows what's happened but yeah it wouldn't be afcon without a strong nigeria team you say that but with nigeria we've had like some issues of course like the last afcon we got to the final we look like we're going to win unfortunately lost to ivory coast the host um but i found out recently that the nigeria team haven't received you know every country that player for each country you get wages and bonuses.

23The Nigeria team hadn't received theirs for two years. I was just reading this morning they've submitted a complaint to FIFA about DR Congo's squad because they lost on pens to Congo and the qualifiers. But they're now trying to say that four of their players were ineligible. because they had I think they they basically looked into the DR Congo constitution and their constitution says that you're not allowed to have dual nationality so there's like Axel Twanzavi and Wan-Bissaka Wan-Bissaka and a couple of others because they've got British nationality or French or something passports as well and then have only got DR Congo passports last minute and they're trying to say like they're ineligible basically It's a long shot You know it's a long shot They're really scraping the barrel of the Nigerian FA Just reading all the small print Has anyone had a look at that constitution?

24Has anyone seen the constitution? Just find something The thing about us Nigerians though Is that we always find a way I don't know how But we always do I'm not saying that we should have done it But if it goes through I'm going to be at the World Cup I'm going to be right there It's all down to the 1924 constitution article Article 27B What the founding fathers wanted To be fair Nigeria didn't have That smooth a road To this AFCON right Because in qualifying They had a rough upride To Libya Oh yeah I remember that Not Nigeria's fault So Libya lost their away leg In Nigeria And therefore decided To try some Slightly more tricky tactics Mind games For the reverse leg Yeah you could call it mind games You could call it Imprisonment So basically Nigeria's squad Flew to Benghazi For the game And while they're in the air an order came in from the Libyan government to divert their flight to this quite obscure military airport in Libya and once they got there the players were locked in the terminal with no food or drinks for 15 hours I think we got some pictures of them looking quite bored felt quite dystopian that sleeping just sleeping on the benches this is actually millionaires we've all done it we all do it but they are we're not millionaires you know they are yeah at one point they were they were pleading online for people Victor Bonifaz tweeted this is getting scary now you guys can have the point we just want to return to our country mental and this was this was pre-match pre-match they were like one against the game but by that point you're like I just want to get the fuck out of here this is not right what was the result I don't remember the result well so Nigeria refused to play the game eventually Libya allowed a Nigerian plane to land and take them home but not before charging them a 500 % markup on their jet fuel oh wow the final slap in the face 500 % Final fucking kick Wow It's like being on Ryanair Isn't it If that's the case Does that mean That we got awarded the win Yeah The Yeah Basically the authorities Decided this is unfair And therefore Libya forfeits So it's a 3-0 win Thanks very much Take the points I've got now isn't it Yeah Crazy though Yeah Locked in It's literally like hostage Yeah I should say in fairness Libyan FA Is adamant That they had A nothing to do with it And B It was just like all a misunderstanding They actually tried to say that they'd Had some like poor treatment But we never complained about it I read that statement, it was quite like Friendly, but I don't know, someone somewhere Someone from the Libya FA Just leaked some information to Whoever runs like the airport I know the idea, it's just one Libyan football fan Who works in the like control tower at the airport I'm going to fuck them up Protein is now at Starbucks and it's never tasted so good.

That'd be great if they make it. It wouldn't actually be their first appearance at a World Cup, though.

36that came in 1974 in West Germany and back then the country was known as Zaire and it was ruled by this dictator Mobutu Mobutu Sese Seko his name was and great pronunciation right there I'll try get our Congolese listeners slagging me off on the show you got recognised in Malawi in fairness not in person but I had said I was going to be in Malawi. I thought you got recognised in the streets. Global you, mate. Of course you're not. Did have a few people who wanted to meet up but it didn't work out in the end. Anyway, so Mobuto, he seized power in Zaire about a decade earlier and he decided that he wanted to just plough money into the national teams.

27He wanted them to compete on the world stage. And a lot of players of Congolese descent that were playing in Europe, he managed to lure back, offered them really lucrative contracts, gifted them mansions, fast cars, which they were pretty happy about this. But very quickly, it became clear that Mobutu was a bit mental. So he demanded that his players legally change their names to traditional tribal titles. And to be fair, he also followed his own rule. So he took on a new name that roughly translated as the all-powerful warrior who because of endurance and an inflexible will to win will go from conquest to conquest leaving fire in his wake.

10I do like fire in his wake. Fire in his wake is good. He made sure they added that bit on there. Lord of the Rings. Yeah, that one's good. Leave a fire in his wake. What? Yeah, he also decided to switch their traditional nickname from the lions to the leopards. Largely, I think, because he had a leopard print hat that he liked to wear. We've got a picture of him. I've got a pic. Again. he's a cool hat a full gown in leopard print he's got the matching outfit it's a great outfit to be fair but you can't just change the team name it's like Cardiff going changing shirt colour we're going to be leopards today what okay sounds like a dictator yeah on the pitch though it was it was going pretty well so Zaire won the AFCON twice and then qualified for the 1974 World Cup and so you know fans are fans are pretty happy about things Why were they suddenly good?

04Was he just putting money in? He was putting a lot of money into the team. And leopards. Yeah. Yeah.

11Unfortunately, though, things weren't quite so rosy in the squad. The players had started to realize that Mubitu's promises weren't all they were cracked up to be. Because he'd offered them these lucrative contracts, but the money had never materialized. A lot of them had to take side jobs as well just to get by. Okay. and meanwhile Mobutu was just living the high life like he built himself these lavish palaces he'd throw these big parties with food and champagne delivered to the guests on conveyor belts wow he my favourite thing he did was he flew himself a birthday cake from France on a Concorde I quite rate it didn't Kanye West did that with a you know the story he flew a curry from Wales to LA Kanye West did there's like a curry place in Wales that Kanye West once went to and loved it.

02What is going on here? The Shah of Iran used to get takeaway flown from Paris to Iran. And Abramovich got sushi delivered from either London or Paris to, I think he was in Ukraine at the time. This is a while ago. Yeah. And they said, pound for pound, it's the most expensive takeaway ever. That's insanity there. Your rider is boarding a plane. I think doing it with birthday cake is even better because you could just make... You can make a hit wherever you are. He apparently flew the patisserie chef from Paris with the cake to deliver it. So anyway, he's splashing cash left, right and centre, but not on his players' contracts.

45So they're not happy. There's just one thing keeping them going, though. And it's these bonuses that FIFA awards to teams that have qualified for the World Cup. because Mabuta had promised the players, look, this money is going to be shared out between the players. So they go off to Germany. They're quite happy. They're feeling excited, optimistic. And when they arrive in West Germany, they're met by a government official. So they're asking him, like, when are we, was our payment going to be coming? And he's like, yeah, yeah, yeah. I just need to finish counting out the cash and you'll get it after your first game.

19So they go out to their first game, play pretty well, but end up losing 2-0 to Scotland. and then they head back to the hotel where there's more bad news because the government official has checked out and disappeared with all their cash. Sounds about right. And you're at the World Cup, you're not going to not play. Well, they actually refuse to play their next match. It's like chaos. Chaos in the hotel. They're confronting the Zaire FA officials. Eventually they do agree to play because FIFA manages to knock up a match payment for them. They get smashed 9-0, though, by Yugoslavia. Was that a protest that happened?

59I don't know. I'm not sure if they... Yeah, I think their heads are gone after all that. 9-0 is insane. I was going to say, that's a really good Scotland team. This is when Scotland had serious players, right? Yeah. Yeah, I guess. Was that what? It's like Graeme Sooner. Graeme Sooner. Hanson. Graeme Sooners. I think they'd all been there. anyway anyway after that the situation got even darker so there's more oh yeah so they've still got another group stage game to play against Brazil oh good oh great great not bad smash 9-0 by Yugoslavia and now they're up against Brazil and before the game Mobutu sends his presidential guards to the players hotel and threatens them says that if they lose by four goals or more then they're not coming back to Zaire oh which eventually they actually do manage.

57They get a 3-0 loss against Brazil. So they can go ahead. It's sort of creditable. The match featured one of the weirdest World Cup moments when Brazil get a free kick and the defender charges out and just boots the ball away. We've got a clip of it here. Oh, I remember seeing this. It's always in those lists of like maddest World Cup moments. Yeah. So he gets booked for it. But that's just time wasting. Well, yeah, so no one really knows exactly what he was thinking. So it was either a time-wasting tactic to make sure Brazil don't get that fourth goal, or just something to humiliate Mobutu, which did work.

38Because after the game, the players, they were allowed back to Zaire. And as soon as they got back, they were summoned to the presidential palace, where Mobutu branded them mercenaries and banned them from leaving Zaire. I mean, mercenaries get paid. Yeah, exactly. It's the one thing they're not. Yeah, I don't know if they ever got their match payment. I suspect not. Probably not. Judging by his past records. And after that, he decided to just cut funding to the national team and adopted a new favourite sport, boxing. So Zaire hosted the Rumble in the Jungle, the famous Muhammad Ali, George Foreman fight.

17Oh, yeah, I remember that. Yeah, in the Congo. Yeah. Yeah, okay, yeah. So he forked out$10 million to host that. And yeah, that was sort of his new passion. Gaddafi put some of the money in. Yeah, Gaddafi. We did a Mahmoud Ali episode and we were talking about that. Gaddafi. And yeah, they haven't been at a World Cup since then. So fingers crossed they can make it through the playoffs. Well, you know, if Nigeria has anything to say about it, who knows? As much as it will be a fairytale for them to come back, they haven't followed the constitution. My hands are tied. What can I do? What can I do?

58Yeah, actually, speaking of teams, we'll be looking for redemption at the World Cup. So Ghana have qualified for the World Cup, but not AFCON. Not AFCON, again. It's the second time. Oh, it's the second time. They're doing a bit of an Italy. It's actually quite similar to Italy. Yeah, pretty much, isn't it? Not making World Cups. Which again, you know, it's a good team on paper. Antoine Semenyo, Mohamed Kouros. Ghana, again, are one of the like, for the casual fan, quite like the canonical big teams you expect. Maybe it's because they don't have the best squad harmony, which I am basing purely on the fact that Jordan Ayew is captain.

31Yeah. And Jordan Ayew, back in 2015, had a bit of a falling out with one of his Ghanaian teammates, Afri Akwa, whose wife was caught having an affair with Jordan Ayew. I say she was caught. She recorded a voice note in which she spilled all the details and it was just posted straight to YouTube by someone who received it, at which point all hell broke loose. So in it, she basically says, she reveals that her and Jordan and I have been having this long-term affair. She said, Jordan intensely humped me for four years. Intensely humped me for four? Four years. Intense humping. It's a bit intense.

09Intensely humped me for four years. It sounds like it's nonstop. Yeah. You literally would do it. Four consecutive years. Okay. A bit of a nuisance. yeah she basically is just like yeah I've been having this long term affair I get it's bad enough knowing you've had the affair I don't need to know that it was intense humping but yeah some other stuff she said in it she said Jordan has slept with me more than Aqua which is a real slap in the face and she also said Afri is very jealous I swear whenever he sets eyes on me and Jordan having a chat or hanging out he quickly becomes furious and won't talk to me till I apologise fair enough I'm not surprised he was right yeah makes sense intensely humping my wife yeah I had looked they carried on this broke in 2015 Afri Akwa was playing until 2020 for the national team he sort of his career is wound down now but so I guess they just carried on playing together Jordan and Andre yeah is that the brother's name yeah Andre yeah the brother's right yeah they're obviously Andre is like I think maybe like 30 something now Jordan is still playing-ish their dad's Abede Pele right oh really Abede Pele is their dad obviously his nickname is Pele but he's actually Ayu if you look a picture of them I'm sorry they're literally yeah so that's why they have such like they're still playing for Ghana now pretty much because their dad was obviously they're good players too but they've kind of gone past it both of them their dad is Abede Pele yeah who is a legendary figure for Ghana so your football royalty yeah your football royalty you know even when you shouldn't be playing it's like well you know they've got to be there even the scandals that come up like that he was still in the team which doesn't make any sense it's kind of the John Terry Wayne Bridge yeah we won't get into all the details of that but like you you probably still got you won't drop John Terry will you yeah and you can't drop Jordan are you I mean reliable reliable servant of the game for a long time you know I also read he was a great player it was Jordan was at Crystal Palace yeah yeah often popped up with important goals not like a lot of goals but yeah I was looking into it as well and Afriyakwa said that he was on I don't know if he was talking about Andre or if there's another IU brother but he was like I used to go on trips with them all and I always got on really well with the brother but me and Jordan never really never spoke which probably because he was banging your wife he was speaking to your wife though wasn't he intensely humping her for four years that added detail also don't put that in a fucking voice no that's insane yeah never put incriminating stuff in a voice note.

48It's still on YouTube, but it's not in English, so I couldn't follow it because I was like, oh my god, this is amazing. So we mentioned AFCON 2023 earlier, but I also wanted to touch on the previous tournament, 2021, which had some pretty good comedy moments. Most famously when the ref in Tunisia against Mali blew for full time on 85 minutes. He had a shocker. He had a shocker. I feel like he had a heat stroke or something. Yeah, that was the explanation. Tunisia were 1-0 down at that point. And obviously, they were like, Fumy just lost their chance of getting back into the game. Eventually, they did manage to get him to restart it.

29But he then blew again on 89 minutes. At which point, he had to be escorted off the pitch by security. They formed a ring around him. That's so insane. Was that like, he was so out of it, he was misreading the time as like a 9 instead of an 8? he obviously had the watch on as well was that it or was he was he just like I'm too sick to carry on I mean heat stroke is rough but who was the English ref at the World Cup was it Graham Pohl who showed like three yellow cards he showed them three yellow cards it's great so yeah they said they had heat stroke afterwards wasn't the only fuck up at that tournament though so in Mauritania's match the stadium staff played the wrong national anthem three times in a row they tried three different tracks at which point they gave up and the players three different I think they played like their old national anthem another country's national anthem Mauritius Mauritius yeah and yeah eventually they just the players just we'll just sing acapella we'll just sing this one whatever it is my favourite moment though was there was a press conference before Burkina Faso against Tunisia and the camera crews are all there it's all set to go live and a few seconds before they went live someone climbed onto the stage, grabbed the mic and electrical cables and ran off I don't remember this at all so it turned out that the organising committee had rented the equipment from this guy and hadn't paid their payroll so he just turned up to collect his stuff which yes, it's fair enough Yeah, refugging this is gaming.

13Can't pay, take it away. Literally. I couldn't find an actual video of it. There's quite a good photo of the manager just sat at the desk, just like... Do acapella, I guess. No microphones. There was actually, there was another good moment a few months before that tournament. During, it was a World Cup qualifier between Uganda and Mali. And fans spent most of the first half watching the back of this bloke's head. who sat in front of one of the TV cameras. He was just there. We've got another photo of the camera. You're just seeing the back of the head. This is what fans tuning in at home sort of, most of the first half.

52I would be fuming, by the way. Can you imagine? There's no way he's done that by accident, right? I think he's just so oblivious to what's going on. But in the fourth minute, just to be standing like that, not even realising. Arms crossed. Nil-nil. It's not even like a gripping game at this point. one other theory is that again he'd rented them the equipment there was some sort of dispute to me that's got to be deliberate there's been some sort of rival broadcaster maybe I know people were screaming at him to get out of the way as well he heard them he said nah yeah just I'll stay standing we'll link to the picture yeah I thought we'd finish slightly random one but we haven't we haven't talked about Kolo and Yaya Toure today because we did a whole episode on them football's friskiest fraternity the two the two naughty brothers Friskiest for totally Yeah They're pretty friskiest Football's freakiest Friskiest Friskiest Is what we went with Yeah It was one of our We probably did it like a year and a half ago It was a good app So we haven't talked about them We haven't talked about Sammy Latto either Because we'll probably do a whole lap on him But there is one old Premier League favourite I wanted to mention Which is Emmanuel Frimpong Oh yeah Yes He only played for Ghana once But he's still technically therefore An African footballer He's fully retired now Yeah Yeah After a little spell at Arsenal.

10Always quite a fun character. I was looking, he did an interview a few years back where he said he wanted to star in a porn film with 20 Russian women. 20 Tatar babes is what he said. He played for this team, Ufa, in the Russian League. Ah, okay. Which is in the Tatar region of Russia. And he, yeah, they were sort of asking him and he was like, yeah, I still want to come back and star in a porn film with them. It's a bit much that, isn't it? Yeah, but he's married as well. Not anymore. Leave that to Nicholas Pepe. Anyway in the end He turned down the Career in porn And instead he's a landlord Now Yeah so In London He When he was at Arsenal He was like part of You know the whole Dench thing That Lethal Bizzle Did Oh yeah That's his cousin He's his cousin Yeah And obviously Lethal Bizzle He's a business mogul As much as like a Musician So I'm sure there's probably Some ties there Regarding him being a landlord Right In the UK Or you think Lethal B is like You need to Yeah, you need to sort your shit out.

11You need to start talking about porn stars and get on the property. Get a bite of Lett and Enfield. And he did, to be fair. Although it doesn't sound like it was the best experience for his tenant. So this has been in court recently. One of his tenants said, she said when she found out her landlord was Emmanuel Frimpong, she was, in her words, over the moon. It's very exciting. Why? It's very random. Yeah, it's random, yeah. If you realised a footballer was your landlord, it'd be quite fun. Is it? Yeah. So he obviously had some cameos as well at Arsenal. Yeah, exactly. I now enjoy paying my rent every month.

47Man, it's Frimpong, you know. Over the moon. Over the moon to pay. But she said that alarm bells started to ring quite quickly when she was sitting in her living room one evening, quite soon after moving in, and she looked at the window and there was a pair of eyes peering through the blinds. And those eyes belonged to her landlord, with Emanuel Frimpong, who, yeah, she caught him red-handed sort of at the property. It's nothing pervy, but she confronted him just being like, what the hell are you doing? Apparently he said to her, I can come to the property whenever the hell I like. And she was like, I don't think you can actually, but right, go away.

21And then soon after that, the doorbell rang and she opened the door and there was Emanuel Frimpong clutching an air mattress. Sorry, Emanuel Frimpong clutching an air mattress, telling her that he would be moving in with his wife and kids Just for a little while Is what he told her How big was this house? He had a spare room That he could use Wait Wife and kid? Yeah I think multiple kids Kids Plural In a spare room? Yeah I think he's like Unfurling his sleeping bag On the sofa Don't mind me mate Put that toothbrush in the Lights out at 9pm Okay Apparently he was like It's just going to be For a few weeks But he ended up Staying much longer And then basically Tried to force her out so apparently he just would like be really aggressive and then he gave her a fake eviction notice she took him to court I actually don't know the outcome but I think they're still still thrashing it out so she thought she'd rent it out like at this lovely three bedroom house can have a lot of space can have a spare room for when friends come to visit sorry you can't stay Emmanuel Frimbo it's a family of it's a family of four living one of them is a former footballer you might recognise him I just checked that one in So random So random Yeah I don't think Lethal B was advising that Probably not Probably not You know He didn't get that part from you I read about that quite often This thing of like Landlords rent you a place And then they're like Oh by the way I'm going to be living there For a bit I guess it's just a good Money maker You know if you Come into like hard times You're like Oh I actually got a property Well yeah someone's in it right now But hey Fuck it Do you mind Room for a small one And my kids yeah that's a sort of vaguely related moment not sure we can class that it's certainly not an one appearance one appearance the guy hey throw it in there why not yeah I think that's all we got time for any favourite moments from all of that favourite characters I think it's hard for me to get look past the guy standing in front of the TV screen for just the pure that image killed me by the way that is so good ridiculous also the guy The guy collecting his camera equipment Same vibe Just for the press conference I think Maybe the Zaire Zaire one with the Was it the Football Federation president Flying his birthday cake That is Different times So presidential and So outrageous at the same time Yeah Would you do it if you had the money?
