In short

Maddie Ziegler discusses her new Netflix movie Pretty Lethal, including filming in Budapest, leading cast dynamics, and the film’s campy, tongue-in-cheek tone. The episode also centers on therapy and mental health: sleepovers for adult well-being, OCD/confessional OCD, finding the right therapist, self-soothing habits, and building patience after a difficult year. They connect these themes to dance/acting identity, toxic sides of the dance world, and using bodywork to recover.

Guests

Maddie Ziegler (iconic actress/dancer; known for dance and acting; stars in Pretty Lethal). Other speakers are the hosts: Cassidy, Peyton, and Ryan (friends/therapists-in-training discussing therapy topics and personal routines).

Key claims

Sleepovers improve mental health even for adults. Maddie says she sets the tone as “first on the call sheet” by being gracious and kind. She describes confessional OCD (e.g., needing to announce checking texts “or else”). She says she learned patience and is “glowing” after a year with little work.

Notable examples

Pretty Lethal shot for ~3 months in Budapest; training with Royal Ballet staff and ballet/stunt boot camp; Uma Thurman knitting between takes and gifting knitting kits; Maddie and Lana Condor trained together; Maddie’s self-soothing via twisting her hair; therapy helped her OCD and anxiety; they recommend Golden Hour (Kacey Musgraves) and discuss Scandal/How to Get Away with Murder.

0:00For decades, a shadowy organization called the Lemonati has kept lemon on top and lime in the shadows. Look around, lemon forward sodas, even lemon forward songs. We ran the tracks, slowed them down, reversed them and squeezed out the truth.

0:19That's lemon propaganda right there. But now 7up is fighting back with their new lime lemon soda. Join the 7up rising. Flip the sip.

0:42All right, we have Cassidy with us. Good morning. I'm still not awake. Can anyone hear me? Is this on? Can you make sure my Chrome Hearts song isn't in this? Is not in this? How would your Chrome Hearts song be in this? In case my legs are open. Cassidy, your legs are closed and you just want them to know that you're wearing a Chromeheart song. Mm-hmm.

1:08What was your favorite part about last night? What'd you do? Oh, Cass kept trying to talk to me last night. And I said, shh. Shh. Shh. I was trying to go to bed. And I said, shh. Do you not remember that? Oh, when we were going to sleep. Yeah. Yes. He wanted nothing to do with me. That's how it usually goes. Seems to become a pattern in my life. But therapy has helped. Oh, you're tickling my feet. Okay. Ryan just found a study, or I guess Peyton found a study. Okay. And this was a meme that was actually suggested. She says, studies says sleepovers are good for your well-being. Yes, comma, even for adults.

1:43We actually agree with that. I always wake up happier when I sleep somewhere. If I don't sleep somewhere, I wake up depressed and I can't get out of bed. So I feel like it's good for your mental health. Cassie you don't have many sleepovers a week I sleep at Peyton's weekly Peyton can't sleep alone but also she wakes me up with coffee every single time I sleep over Peyton is the world's best friend yeah she is she wakes me up with a banana or what's it called an iced coffee because we have severe attachment issues what do you mean by that do you want to elaborate I think it's how we view men in general.

2:25It's like we're very attached to people who don't want us because we live for the chase, which is something we both need to work on in therapy. And I have been working on it. But it's like I don't want a man who doesn't. What's funny about this? What's funny about my trauma? I just didn't think we'd get here. Well, I'm talking to the camera. Shut up. I don't want a man who wants me back because I know that like if a nice guy was taking me on a date, now I'm sorry I'm rambling but if a nice guy was taking me on a date or like wanting me I wouldn't want him because I know like oh it could go somewhere so in like unintentionally but like my subconscious goes for people who literally don't want me back or like can't get in a relationship because I'm not ready for a relationship and me yeah I do I think so too I think it's a pattern with us three so tonight we have on Maddie Ziegler who I love dearly oh my god she's perfect Did you not know that that's...

3:23No. Oh, wait, I'm really excited. She's perfect and beautiful and stunning. She looked so beautiful. She is drop dead. She's drop dead. She is actually drop dead. Yeah, she's perfect. So, Maddie, if you're hearing this, you're stunning. Well, she's in the new movie Pretty Lethal. Maddie, I love you. Netflix, I love you. Cassidy, I love you. Peyton Ryan, I love you. Enjoy the episode, pussies.

3:50hi pussies welcome back to therapists today or tonight we have i don't know which one is it you really turned that on that was amazing really yeah that was good i was like oh

4:05well we're on and it's either tonight today or tomorrow or i don't okay whatever it's one of and we have the iconic, yes, yes, actress, dancer extraordinaire Maddie Ziegler. Thank you for having me. And your new movie, Pretty Lethal, is out now. Where did you guys shoot? Did you shoot?

4:28Sorry, I just, where did you shoot? We shot on location in Budapest. I was going to ask. Budapest. What was it like? I have a hard time saying that. I feel like I just say Budapest because I just. It is Budapest, no? I know, but people say Budapest. That's like saying Ibiza and Ibiza. A hundred percent. Same shit. Yeah, we were there. We shot for like three months. It was so fun. Like we all were just living like on the same floor of a hotel and just like living our best lives. It was such a fun time. What's like the day to day like in Budapest outside of filming? Like what's like the like life like there?

5:00Like. I mean, the architecture is beautiful. Right. The food. They had amazing like Asian cuisine there, which I was like so shocked by. What? Is it near Asia? I'm homeschooled, so I can't give you much. No, you know what? I used to think Florida was at the top of the map. Literally the last. Yeah, I thought it went New York, Florida, Los Angeles. That's okay. There was amazing, like, just overall. Like Thai food and stuff? Yes, 100%. Ooh, yum. But honestly, I was so tired, like, because we were working all day, every day, but, like, and, like, doing full stunt and dance work all day in pointe shoes.

5:35So we did go to some, like, fun random Hungarian bars, which was fun. And you were there for three months. Yeah. Because you've been in a lot of movies, but was this time one of your first times being like first on the call sheet? It's a newer thing for me, yeah. Yeah. This was like maybe the third time I was number one. Okay. But it felt, I was kind of like, oh, I'm just number one. They hadn't at that point like cast who Uma's character was going to be. So I was like, once she comes, I'll get knocked to number two. But I still stayed number one, which was crazy. That's cool. And what, like, how do you, as first on the call sheet, like, do you, like, actively think about, like, like, oh, I have a responsibility to create, like, this type of environment, or do you just kind of, like, let it flow?

6:20I think it has to be a mixture of both, because if you overthink it, then it's just going to be too much. But I definitely think you have a responsibility as number one. You, like, have to set the tone for the environment, and, like, everyone will move accordingly. you know i'm like be gracious to everyone be kind to everyone it was interesting too because like not everyone spoke english when we were there oh like the crew yeah the crew yeah because there's a lot mainly hungarian crew and so it was fun to like pick like kind of like mash our worlds together and pick up on new things and new terms and like yeah but it definitely i was like i have to set the tone and also like it's funny because i think i've said this before but like there were people when we got there they were like we didn't know if you five girls would get along like we honestly thought it'd be like a shit show and i'm like what like and you all got along great and it was all we were best friends oh that's awesome i'm like the stereotype of like put five girls in a room they're gonna hate each other and like cat fight i'm like no right we right we were sisters like yeah it was a very beautiful bond that we had do you have any like really funny memories um or is it like you had to be there you had to be there because i do a sequel we'll get you in thanks i'll be the male ballerina but i've tried like explaining certain things that are like so funny i'm like you really just had to be there i know and it's so awkward when you're telling it and you're laughing and the other person's like listening like oh my god yeah that's so funny do you have one that came to mind i won't look at you while you tell if you're scared that i won't laugh okay well this isn't a funny memory it's a memory but this is like a moment that i'll never forget it's like well uma loved to knit in between every take like she was making this beautiful sweater the whole time we were shooting and she gave us all knitting kits as like our wrap gift which was really sweet.

7:57I love when people that are so extraordinary have such, not small, because knitting is not small, but like... The knitting community is like... Up in arms. But like, have such kind of like very normal hobbies. Yeah. Do you know what I mean? For sure. It's like, I think she was just like, you have to find like the... I'm sure you, like through working and filming, you probably feel this too. Like, how do I find the calm amongst the storm? Because I feel like I'm learning. It's hard. It's really hard. And like, you have to like self-soothe. And that's like a very like self-soothing thing. How do you self-soothe?

8:35Self-soothe. I, well, I'm still learning. But I, if you notice, I won't do it now. But I'm normally twisting my hair 24-7. It's like a thing that everyone calls out. Like, I'm constantly playing with my hair. and I've done it since I was, my mom's like, when I used to like get you from your crib when you were a baby, your hair would be like suffocated, like wrapped around your finger. So I've just, it's been a thing forever. Did you like actively choose to stop doing that? Was it like - Oh, I haven't stopped. Oh, you still do it? Yeah, I still do it. I'm just not doing it right now. I mean, if that's what works for you, that works for you at least.

9:09It's like, it's better than like - Pills. Oh, for sure. You know, like - Yeah. But we were talking before and you said you've known Taysha since you were nine years old. Yeah. Do you guys just pass each other in dance competitions? against each other and she was like she beat me at like our big award show it was like the biggest thing you can win called the dance awards and she won and i've like never been like i was such a fan of her normally when i was younger i was like a sore loser like if i didn't win i was like really upset how could you not be at that age yeah and that's what i was taught you know so like but she i was just so inspired by her and i loved her and then there was a dancing with this sorry so you think you can dance juniors yes i remember i was a judge on that and i judged her she was one the contestants so we like it was so weird is that how you guys became friends or well technically we weren't really allowed to be friends because it's like you can't talk to the judge because then i'm like oh really they're like strict about that yeah so we had to wait until after we wrapped and then you and then we like were friends and then we just like knew each other but i feel like when i was around 16 17 we got close again and started like hanging out in la and i love her so much and she's killing it she's the best she's literally the best we need to hang out it's so funny like all these it's funny like sometimes I guess you can feel like what's happening in your world is like the biggest thing on planet earth but there are all these different communities like there's the cheer community there's the dance community there's the book community there's like all these different like lanes and um all these different worlds that and that you don't even know about I know and was it like stressful to be a part of the dance world or did you like love it And you look back at it with like gratitude and graciousness.

10:48I love the dance world so much. And I still feel very like welcomed by it. It's cool because like this film has brought me back into the dance world in so many ways. But I mean, there's obviously like so much trauma and every dancer experiences that. Whether you're like you go down the path I did, which is not conventional or not, you know, like you have that sort of like there's just a lot that goes on in the dance world. It's very toxic in a lot of ways, but it's also like my favorite community. Yeah. And the dance world is so small. I feel like all our industries are just so small and everyone knows everyone.

11:19But they feel so loud. Yeah. And so big. For sure. But like Tate, for instance, is like, it's so cool to see where we both started and to see where she is now. And we're just doing our thing. And it's so cool to support each other. And I'm just like grateful that we have that comfortability of like kind of like supporting one another. So. Yeah. It's also cool. It's like you've merged your dance career with acting now to pursue acting. and she's merged dancing with singing to pursue singing. And it's like very cool to see all like you guys intersect these like different communities and like bring what you've learned into one into the other.

11:53100%. And Addison too is like a great example. Yeah, a great example. She's one of my best friends and I like, I'm so proud of her too. And she's just absolutely killing it. Was she in like the dance world as a kid as well? Yeah. Really? Yeah, she was. It's so funny. She, when she first got to LA, when she like blew up on TikTok, she was staying at my house. She was friends with my sister. Oh, no way. I would like, they would have sleepovers. I like pierced her ear, I think, before I even was friends with her. I took her to like a workout with my sister. And then years later now, we're like friends.

12:21Yeah. And she's just like, she's perfect. And the album's just outstanding. It was my favorite album last year. So good. It's so good. I wish I was like in a, like a, I want that to be like my summer anthem, that album. It is. Also, do you hike? No. I'm like the most unenthousie. I hate hiking more than like itself. Okay, well, never mind. But what were you going to say? All I was going to say is that if you do hike and you're losing motivation, put that shit on and you will run so fast. I see that for that album. I like, when I need some motivation, I'm like, I need to get up this hill. Yeah.

12:58And like high fashion, all those songs like get me going. Yeah, that would get me going. For me, that's like Ari. I'll put on like Ari and like really get it going. Yeah. What are you listening to right now? because we just talked about Addison's album, but what are you listening to? Obviously Addison on repeat, but also I'm back on my anti-Rihanna kick. I'm back on it. You know, it's because it's 2016 again. And that's what started it. She was like, I won 2016 when that was popular. You know, like she posted that. She said I won? She was like, I win. She does win. She does win. Literally, it's no skips.

13:31That's how I feel about Addison's album, no skips. But like Rihanna's album, that, I mean, it's one of the greatest. pieces of art like ever and I will never stop listening it never gets old I'm like how has it been 10 years also me listening to it 10 years ago like I'm 13 and I'm like listening to like yeah I'm back on that what are you listening to I am listening right now I'm like in my I do you listen to Casey Musgraves no I don't do you like country at all okay no no so here's the thing Casey is the one to get you into country okay and that's what everybody says okay because her album basically i've been going back to her album golden hour okay yes i know that oh my god it basically there's this pitchfork you know pitchfork there's this review of it and they basically say like she talks about the world as if she's the first and only one to ever experience it oh my god no it's so like it like talk about skippless it really is just like like for me it covers like every emotion i could go through like while falling in love with like platonically or romantically or just like experiencing the world and like becoming myself and like i just think yeah it's a really good album so i should start with golden start with golden hour what i i remember finding her when i was in seventh grade because she like came out with a song called follow your arrow and i just thought it was like really cool to like so stunning drop dead and there's this other song called um merry-go-round and I thought her like wordplay on it was really cool.

15:03Okay. But start with Golden Hour. Okay, I'll get into that. I trust your opinion. Yeah, start with Golden Hour. Really like, it's, what do you think, Louise? I'm obsessed with this album. If I could recommend one, it would be Slow Burn. Slow Burn. Oh, yeah. Okay. Basically, it's like her being like, it's funny because Slow Burn opens the album with being like, I can play it chill as a lover. Like I'm fine with a Slow Burn, but then you hear her in other songs be like, I am bugging the fuck out. Right? Oh, I like that. Yeah. It's like super cool. Okay. Yeah. I'll get into it. Go for golden hour.

15:35Okay. Maybe I'll revisit. And is it anti or anti? Anti. I never know. That's why I kind of say it quietly. Yeah. I'm going to revisit 2016 Rihanna. Yeah. I'm going to for sure. Oh God. It's going to put you in. Like I was listening to in the shower the other day and I was like, I feel so sexy right now. Oh, I know. It makes me feel. I want a cigarette. I want to drink. I want to go out. Like that's what that makes me. Right. But I'm putting myself out of commission from going out for like at least three weeks. I'm a homebody, so I can't relate. Are you an actual homebody? Yeah. What? I will get out if I need to, but it's like if I have the option, I am not leaving my house.

16:11What do you do when you stay at home? Watch movies, TV shows, hang out with my dog, boyfriend. What are you watching right now? Oh, I also have to talk to you about something. What? I have to give you the biggest thank you ever because you are the reason I watch Scandal. The bad show of all time. I know. The best show of all time. Did you finish? Yeah. Pinnacle television. Season number two is one of the greatest. Season two is the best thing ever. I also, like, I'm just so grateful for you for that experience. Oh, thank you. Because it was life-changing. I'm so happy you got to have the experience of Scandal.

16:44It's literally, like, the best show ever. It's crazy. I just find it to be, like, I've rewatched it now, I think, like, three times. And I just love a show that so much happens that you're like, how did this much happen within the span of one episode? and then you forget what happened so you can rewatch it. Yes, 100%. What are some of your other favorite shows? Well, like, I love Breaking Bad. Oh, so good. I love How to Get Away with Murder, too. Okay, I haven't done it. That's what I'm doing. Thank you. You have to do it. You just prescribed me what I needed today. Oh, my God, I'm so glad. I'm doing How to Get Away with Murder.

17:15You have to watch it. Is it really that good? It's incredible. Have you seen it? It's incredible. It is amazing. The crossover episode when, like, you know. I think I've seen the crossover episode because I was watching Scandal. They have a crossover and then it happens. Yes, I haven't seen the How to Get Away with Murder one, but I've seen the Scandal one. Also, Viola Davis is literally my everything. Yeah, she's a vision. I'm obsessed. Okay, so I'll watch How to Get Away with Murder. You have to watch it. Okay, I'm excited. Ooh, okay. It's good. It's like that world is just so good. Shondaland.

17:46The Shondaland. Do you watch Bridgerton? That's the one I haven't watched yet. I haven't done it yet either. My best friend Julia. Okay. That is her, like, she loves it. Okay. Isn't there like four seasons out? Yeah. So basically it's like Gossip Girl of Gossip. The way it was described to me and sold to me was that it was like Gossip Girl of Gossip Girl was in the 1800s. Okay. I can get down with that. That's what I said too. But I struggle. Okay. I struggle with like, have you ever been in a period piece? I'm so sorry if you haven't. Well, like West Side Story, I guess is, yeah. To me, that doesn't necessarily count.

18:20I'm talking like 17, 1800s. No, no, no. No. Okay. I want to, though. You do? Yeah, I do. Do you like period pieces? I just want to get into, like, the whole fantasy of, like, the wardrobe and the hair and makeup of it all. Okay, totally. But, like, hot. Not, like, not that. I mean, it's hard to be sexy when there's no deodorant and showers. Yeah. So, like, yeah, it would make sense. But, like, their corsets and everything are, like, gorge. Yeah, that's Bridgerton. Yeah, okay, great. So I've heard. Okay. And they'll play, like, thank you next on violin. No, they won't. Yes. No, they will not. They do.

18:50Yes, they do. I literally looked at Julia and said, because I knew they did Thank You Nats, but then she told me they did UConn. And I said, no. No, that is not okay. They did not do UConn on the violin. Oh, my gosh. That's so funny. I need to see it just now. Now I'm like, I have to. 100%. Are you an Iris Close? Yeah. I adore her. I love Iris. She's amazing. I've known her since I was like 12, too. Really? Yeah. How long have you lived in LA for? Like 12 years. Was it a difficult move? um no because I had already been coming here for work all the time um and then I yeah I just like we got a house and it was fun it was like I wanted to be here I needed to get out of Pittsburgh yeah like what are you a Steelers fan though still or were you ever I'm not really like I don't really understand sports so I understand two things about sports okay if you're from Philly you love the Eagles.

19:43Yeah. Love the Eagles. Okay. Are you from Philly? No, but my manager is. Okay. And he's like, I can't speak to him on Sundays. If the Eagles lose, it's a bad week. He's like, really? He's that type of person. Go birds. You were endorsing them? Literally, go birds. Go birds. Go Steelers. I mean. They just take it real seriously. I mean, I feel like that's anyone who's just dedicated to their team. if I had a team do as well as the Eagles do every year, I'd be just as passionate. Oh, so do they do so well? Oh my God, They win all the time every year. Well, I've... Go Birds. Yeah. Yeah. Well, go Steelers.

20:17Right. And the one sport... My brothers played hockey growing up. So, like, I guess you could say I'm a Penguins fan, which is, like, our home team in Pittsburgh. Oh, I didn't even... No. I'm so not well-versed in the hockey world. That's the only hockey team I know. I know the Rangers. I know the Devils. Couldn't tell you where they are. Devils are New Jersey. Okay. Rangers are New York. Okay. are you where are you from new york okay by is pennsylvania tri-state we're we're no we're like an hour like it's like a 45 minute flight right like i used to grow up going to new york all the time for broadway auditions my mom would pull me out of school and we would do a six hour road trip to broadway auditions yeah and did you was it hard hearing no at such a young age all the time from auditions for sure when i was about like six or maybe i was like seven turning eight i got billy elliott which is like and this was before you had done and then i had literally already signed my contract to go on to the reality show so i didn't do it which in hindsight like i'm actually so grateful because i'm like i don't want to like i wow like my life wouldn't have ended up where it is now and i love broadway so much but i'm also i can't sing so like it wouldn't have worked out i would love to do theater yeah i just did i just did how was that i'm so sad i wanted to see it it was awesome it was like honestly one of the best experiences of my entire life and i didn't know it was coming because sometimes like the best experiences like that you don't know that 100 i had no idea it was coming was it hard were you like nervous to memorize and do that whole thing so it wasn't memorization it was very much like an snl sketch so we had a teleprompter and And then we got to improvise.

21:59So it was really fun. Oh, I bet you were so amazing at that. It was, thank you. I mean, we saw it like how many times? Eight times. Eight times. Yeah, in a three-week span. She saw it for a week straight. She saw the play for a week straight. I love that. Was it different every night? No, we added our own thing. It was very fun. I love being on stage. I love that. I think that's where I, I think I shine. I think I prefer to be on there. But like you said, it's like, it's so weird to think back on a decision you made that could have. that maybe at points in your life you're like, I wish I did that instead of said yes to this because I wouldn't be feeling this way right now.

22:35But then we also, if we didn't make the decisions we both made, we wouldn't be sitting in this room talking to each other right now. 100%. You know what I mean? 100%. That's like me when I was like four, I broke my arm and I was going to stop dance for a second, potentially to try horseback riding, and I broke my arm right before my lesson. So I never horseback ride. That's crazy. Are you religious? I believe in a higher power. Higher power. And I totally think that there is a path for me. Like, I think that I'm just on the path that I'm supposed to be on. You are. And you have to tell yourself that everything happens for a reason.

23:05No, I have to. I literally like I manipulate myself all the time. What do you mean? Into doing that. Because. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. When things aren't working out, I'm like, it's happening for a reason. Because or else I'll literally, I don't know what I'll do with myself. Like last year, I did not work at all, basically. Like I did like little jobs here and there. By choice or? No. like it was I had a bad year emotionally so that and for some reason like professionally my year just like I didn't do anything I didn't film anything last year and things I was supposed to film kept getting pushed and I was like okay this is just not my year but I am a horse girl at heart and it is year of the fucking horse it is you're the horse I'm so excited I'm shedding the layers of the I don't even like really believe in that stuff or not that I don't believe in it I don't like subscribe to it really like I don't really like follow it but when I found out I was the year of the horse I was like yeah that's my year you get yourself back up though my thing is like I have had one goal in my life and I've never been like I don't think I can do it anymore even when it's been like the hardest for me really I have I have no other option in my brain like this is it wow do you have someone that you talk to in your life when you're really like going through it yeah I do need to like talk to my therapist again it's been I have a new one I just got a I was doing one literally as of today.

24:19Oh, amazing. Divine timing. That's beautiful. And I felt it leaving great. So it was great. Oh, you already did therapy today. Yeah, I did it at like literally and I was going to cancel. I wanted to just, I was like, oh, I'm good. I'm so happy I did it. That's the thing. It's always like working up the courage to do it beforehand. I'm always like, oh, I don't want to do this. I want to cancel. And then afterwards I'm like, I am a new person. My thing is, is I was doing the wrong therapy for so long. I was doing talk therapy. Which is normal and helpful for a lot of people. but I have really bad OCD.

24:50So I like obsess over thingies. Like I have like confessional OCD where I have to like tell you everything I think. Like for example, when I'm on the phone with a therapist and I check a text, I'll have to say, I just checked my text by the way or else I'll get bad luck. Like shit like that. I know. And she, but I didn't know that that's what it was. Yeah. I would tell my old therapist that all the time. I'd be like, sorry, I just checked my text and she would laugh. And then this therapist was like, oh, you have confessional OCD and then wrote it down. And I was like, well, we'll work on that.

25:15That's incredible. And I was like, is like dating like finding your therapist you have to go like and i just i'm ending my relationship today with my old one but i think she'll take it well she'll be fine you already cheated on her yeah i know i already fucking cheated i've been avoiding her for months i've had two scheduled sessions i know i know i've been avoiding her for months she's so lovely and so great but like you're like you didn't even like i need help i need like scientific help i need like her laughing and just like well she's like oh you got it you know like and i was like no but like i actually like mentally I don't got it I don't think I do I'm really happy for you thank you necessary you have so much that you're doing and you're so busy like it's very important for you to be like taking care of yourself first and foremost thank you thank you how do you take care of yourself um I do a lot of body work and like I do a lot of self-care like I'm doing like do you know what gyro is like gyrotonics it's like sort of like a form of pilates kind of movement sort of stuff i do that like twice a week so you do lymphatics you do body work i do the whole thing like i'm kind of obsessed with it i think i think i just like not that i've never not taken care of my body but i think my body has been like my main source of how i a thousand percent work through everything and so i feel like i've neglected it without even realizing it's like a subconscious thing how do you mean like you mean like your body almost became your work 100 like you know what I mean like you your body and your body's wellness like became equivalent to how you worked yeah like your professional career so then it's like you can yeah I see what you mean yeah and if like my body was declining I was just kind of like but my body always takes care of me it's fine I'll be fine wow whereas now I'm like no let me like actually address it and I didn't really notice it until like I would go on tour when I was younger and do a split and go on stage like not even warm up not even take care of my body like I was just naturally always flexible and whatever and when you're young like you don't feel the thing I'm still young but like now but when I stopped dancing because every injury I ever had came up and I was like whoa like my body was just like screaming at me so I was like okay I actually need to like pay attention to when did you decide to stop dancing well it's it wasn't permanent it was just like for the time being because i had an injury and then every injury came up but i was like i want to say it was during covid wow yeah and you were like i just need to be i just need to take a second and then i acting really like yeah well you're in my old ass as well which i love yeah i just acting kind of took over and then i was also battling that whole thing of like i have to only do jobs in acting that are not related to dance because i'm only going to be hired as it like they're only going to hire me if it's like a dancer role and i'm going to be typecast as that and then people are going to not take me seriously it was like a whole battle of that so i had to really like i needed to prove myself as an actor to be like i can do this on my own without having the dance thing a part of it but then it had been enough time and then like pretty lethal came into my lap and i was like 1000 yes did people on set come to you for advice about dancing like like did everyone have to go through like training and stuff and like what was that like yeah me and lana do you know lana condor i yeah i know off her yeah she's fabulous she you would be obsessed with her she's one of my favorite people in the world.

28:34Her comedic timing is amazing. She's perfection. Yeah, she's awesome. I cannot say enough nice things about her. Which is funny because you play enemies in the movie. We do. We do. But it's also like a secret love story. You punch her in the face. She punches her in the face. I really do. In the first 10 minutes. Did you watch it? Yes, last night. Period. I go to Screaker. Thanks. It's very camp. It's so camp. It's so amazing. I loved it. I had such a fun time watching it. Thank you. You were spectacular. Thank you so much. It played really well at South By. It was like a very interactive experience like everyone was laughing and screaming yeah yeah it was cool it actually came out way more camp than i even thought it would be in the best way like it's just fun and tongue-in-cheek and like yeah but lana it is fine lana had danced she had done ballet until she was like 18 and then quit wow which i didn't even know that prior to like working with her so we had training and experience and so yeah we trained for like months a few months like on our own me and avantica actually trained together in la and then we did like four weeks of ballet boot camp when we got to budapest or we do like ballet boot camp in budapest is crazy is crazy ballet did a budapest did a buda did a someone like did a local teach you no it's like what the fuck like i was like what the fuck did you just go through oh my god that It's so funny.

29:57That would be funnier, though, if we, like, just got, like, randomly taught by. Just, like. So you did three months of, like, Budapest ballet training. Not three months. Just, like, three weeks. Okay, got it, got it, got it. Yeah. But it was really fun. We had, like, an amazing, like, we had people from the Royal Ballet who came in to, like, teach us ballet. And we worked with, we had, like, ballet doubles and stunt doubles. And it was a whole fun experience. So we would do, like, ballet for, like, four hours in the morning. And then, like, five hours would be stunt after. And we'd do that every day for, like, three weeks.

30:25Were you exhausted? I was thriving. Did you feel like back in your element? I'm toxic like that. But did you feel like back in your element? 100%. I mean, I was exhausted, but I also was like, I live for this, like getting sore and like my body kind of giving out. I was like, I love it. It just brought me back to my dance training. And I'm just kind of a psycho when it comes to that. Cause I was like, I want to do everything I can, you know, like I want to do as much dancing. I did almost all of my dancing and almost all of my stunt stuff. Like I was like, I want to do it all. I couldn't jump out of a building while it lit on fire, but like, you know.

30:59Did you get to see your stunt double do that? Yeah, it was crazy. I have like the video on my phone. It's ridiculous. Wait, that's so insane. I know, it was crazy. They're amazing. And they legitimately lit the building on fire. Yeah, and they jumped out onto cardboard boxes. They landed on cardboard boxes. Is that like a one take type of thing? Yeah, one take. Because then the building burns. It didn't burn, but, oh, that's a good point. Did they get it in one take? It was there. The building was still standing. Okay, great. Yeah. It was just a quick, like, pyro, like. Well, the movie's fantastic.

31:30I'm so happy for you. Thank you. I feel like. I'm so happy for you. I, like, I've been such a fan of you for so long. And I've watched, like, every episode of the show. Oh, well. I've been watching you forever. Aw. And my best friend, Julia, tried to fly out for this. No, she didn't. Yes, she did. Is she in, where is she? She's in New York. Oh, let's hang out with her. Is she? Because you know. Wait, why does she like me? You are her North Star. What? She was a dancer. Oh, okay. And she was like, you're her North Star. Like, she was like, Maddie Ziegler is my North Star. Really? Yes. That's so sweet.

32:02She was like, I'm going to fly out. She couldn't because of work, but she was like, I'm. Oh, she's going to ship bricks. Really? Wait, give me my phone. There's way cooler people in the world. Watch her reaction. She says, I don't even think she knows you're here. Hi, I have a question. Yeah. Hey. Oh, no, no, no, no. We're hanging out. We're going to hang out in New York. No, Maddie, this isn't funny. Seriously. You are my Roman Empire. I told her. I told her. You don't understand. You are the figure of my life. This is not funny. You have made my entire life. Julia says, Julia's one line about you is, you can't take your eyes off her.

32:43Stop. Stop. No, I'm literally so obsessed with you. This is literally not funny. Wait, we're going to go to dinner in New York. I'm going to New York tonight. She's coming. Can I please come? Seriously. No, we're going together. Yes, we're going to make plans for this weekend. Hi, I'm a sweet girl. This is making me feel so special. Thank you. Tears in my eyes. I told you. I can't even believe this. You know, she used to have us, for pastime when Julia was bored, she would have us sit down and put on your, like, L.A. Playhouse videos and just look at us and say, you can't take your eyes off of her, can you?

33:16Huh? I'm so obsessed with you. Stop it. You're literally the best dancer I've ever seen in my life. Stop it. Stop it. Okay, so let me know where dinner is and I will be there. I'm so excited. You have made my entire day. I told you I wasn't kidding. No, I believe, like, I believe that you. He's probably underselling it and I'm sorry if you think I'm a freak. Like, I actually. I do not think you're a freak. I'm not that weird. Bring back people actually, like, complimenting us. Like, or being like. I agree. I hate when people are, like, pretend like they don't know other people. I'm like, I will be the first person to go up and be like, I'm a fan of you.

33:47Yes. I mean, that's my shtick. that's literally my stick that makes people feel special like you that's really you are her north that just like made my day really yeah by the way a lot of people have been to this house julia's never reacted that way that's crazy she's not even here so yeah that's really nice i love that yeah let's do it okay so maddie what are you therapist about today um it can really be the most benign thing it really like i'm mad that it's so fucking hot in here but I'm mad about it. That's why I laughed because that's what I was going to say and I was like I can't really say that it's kind of disrespectful.

34:22Yes you can I'm so mad about it we've been dealing with this for almost three years now it just how was it not oh it's always hot in here. Is there like a no it's never this hot. Is there like a silent it's a heat wave. The room isn't getting cold and I'm a cold sleeper. I what do you sleep at? 62. Do you really? 62. Where have you been all my life? 62. Cheers. Wow I've never met another 62-er. Yeah. Oh my God. No, I'm not even kidding. Louise sleeps at like 80. First of all, you would die. 70, I would have a panic attack. Oh, for sure. I would have a legitimate panic attack. If I'm, yeah, I just, it's 62 or nothing.

35:02Not to sound out of touch, but the hotel life like really took a toll on me mentally. For sure. I think, I mean, for someone. Something funny? No, no. I think for me, I feel like it's definitely, I like to create like the best environment for my home. Like I, you know, like I'm, that's why I love being home. Cause my home is my favorite place in the world. Cause I've made it like my sanctuary. So like not being in your space with all of your things and like just access to the things that matter the most to you. Like that does take a toll on you. I don't know what, why my OCD had something to do with it.

35:37because like I said, I wasn't in the right therapy, but I know that my OCD does have something to do with the fact that I have a hard time organizing and keeping things organized. And like living out of a suitcase is hard for anyone, but I know specifically for me, there is something that was there and I'm going to, I'm going to ask my new therapist about it. You should. I'm a neat freak. I'm, are you really? I'm so jealous of you. My house is spotless. Everything is organized. Every, if you ever need help, like I literally offer myself to people to be like if you need help organizing like I will come over and do it it's like my favorite thing to do in the world be careful what you put out there because I will take you up and I'm the least organized person on the planet oh because I'm a hoarder I take I think everything is so sentimental and I want to save everything that's how my sister is she's a really I get it my grandma is the same way it drives me insane yeah but I but if you're happy I'm not oh well then I don't know yeah I gotta figure it out nope therapy and we're starting and we're new.

36:33We love her. I love her. I forget her name. And that's, by the way, that's a great sign. Well, you still haven't cut things off fully with your other. No, I'm going to send her a text and I feel comfortable saying like, I needed someone that specialized in like OCD specific stuff. 100%. Because it is just. It's rough in the street. It's rough in my head. Are you like a fan of the Inside Out movies? Yes. Those movies. The second movie, it changed my life. I couldn't believe how much I sobbed during that movie. I've never felt so seen in my life. All I thought about was like, I'm so jealous that like these kids get to be like, oh my God, that's so normal that I feel that way.

37:09One thousand percent. You know what I mean? Like that's so normal. Riley has it. She thinks it. Look at anxiety. Riley. No, it is the best movie. And I think, do they teach it or do they play it in schools? Because I totally. I think they will if they don't. I think they absolutely have to. The way they described the panic attack and like when the new set, when you hit teenager and when you hit teenager, when you become a teenager. it's just okay so when you put it simply yeah and like you're like oh anxiety really is like they are just trying to help and like you're like okay like you shouldn't hate it you should like welcome it i know that's the hardest thing pixar really just eats down like oh they do who is running pixar but they pick the best project they really do you should like voice over something oh god i don't know i think my voice has been heard by enough folk for no i love your voice do you really yeah you have a really fun speaking pattern thank thank you listening back to like my own voice on a weekly basis to edit my show oh i'm sure you hate the most insufferable thing on planet earth nolan godspeed to you i mean i don't know who like well actually quite a lot of people like their voice but i'm like i just feel like that's like a red flag if you like your voice yeah that's weird i think it's more never met anyone that's like i love the sound of my own voice and there definitely are people in the world that like yes i mean i mean and good for them but i don't know if that's someone i'd want to surround myself yeah no would you do you like the sound of your own voice no but it's so funny okay no one do you like your own voice i don't i don't like my laugh but i don't think about no what were you gonna say it's so funny you say that i was at sephora yesterday checking out and the girl was like oh my god i'm obsessed with your voice oh that's the best compliment though i did i have had someone tell me that they love my voice i I love your voice.

38:59And I'm like, I have done voiceovers. My voice is so like generic. No, you have a very like cunty voice. Oh, period. Like it's, you know what I mean? Totally. It's giving like IDGAF. See, we're our own biggest critic. Oh, for sure. I'm like so mean to myself. Same. I have the worst negative self-talk. Yeah. I was like social media, like it was actually rotting me in a really crazy way and giving me so much anxiety. God, it's just hard because it's my job. I know. And I do love it. I know. And I never want to. And you're so good at it. And I love connecting with people on it. 100%. And like when that feeling of making people laugh and like people being like, I just LOL'd so hard.

39:37It's addicting. Or being like, you just made me laugh so hard. Like I love like creating a community, but when it gets bad, it's horrible. 100%. It's horrible. But you can dictate that. You know, like you, there's just, there's really positive places of the internet. And I think it's just like trying to like, it's hard when we're being fed so much negative talk, but your videos are like, that's the one thing I miss from TikTok is your videos. Oh, thanks. I don't do the skits anymore. So you're not missing out. Oh, really? Yeah. I, they're so good. Oh, thank you. The Mona Lisa one will forever go down as my favorite video.

40:11The vaping where I'm vaping? No, it's the one where something about Mona Lisa, like check, like the, I don't know if it was. Was it the crowd control one? It was the one where you're talking about like getting the photo or checking the photo. I don't know if it was like. Oh, and he's like, can I pick select? Yes, yes. I said that? That one actually like I would watch that and reference that. Also, I'm sorry to bring this up. But this morning, my makeup artist and best friend, Tanya, she was, she hasn't really seen your show. And I was like, let me just like play you a funny clip. And I just immediately went to the edge.

40:45Oh my God. No, that's. And she was dying laughing. That's the best one. But it's iconic. That's the best one. She was like, I'm never. She didn't know that about, obviously, that he wrote that for that reason. And she was like, I will never look at that song and say. Well, who will play? He set you up. He set me up. He said the most memeable lyric is the one about my dead grandma. Saying memeable lyric? Of course you're going to laugh. That's funny. Yeah, I know. Because I was thinking about all the really funny memes about it. Like, you've all seen. We've all seen them. Okay, I'm going to go pee really quickly before we get to the Tell Me What's Wrongs.

41:15Do you know what those are? Obviously. This episode of Therapist is brought to you by Booking.com. Booking. Yeah. Coachella is upon us. And if you need a place to stay, Booking.com is the place to book it. Everybody has different needs. And I'm sure you are traveling in a group. If not, that's okay too. But you have needs as well. And you're going to want to know if it's walking distance to the festival. If there's a shower. If there's a tub. Maybe you like to take baths. If there's a pool. Also, in general, summer is approaching and that means trips are happening. When your friend group tries to plan a trip, it is going to be very hard to plan one if you're not all on the same page.

41:56Booking.com allows you to be on the same page because it allows you to put everybody's separate individual needs in there and you can find the perfect place to stay. Once again, walking distance, shower, bath, balcony, smoking, non-smoking, in the city, on the outskirts of the city, whatever you need is on Booking.com. Find exactly what you're booking for at booking.com. Booking dot. Yeah.

42:23Sorry. I know. I'm so sorry. You had such a hard year last year, but it's really like awesome to see you like, like physically and mentally glowing. And after like you, I didn't know you went through a hard year. Yeah. And you're saying like, it was like one of the hardest of your life and you're like literally like, and I'm glowing and, and that happened and I've, I've moved on. Thank you. Yeah. I learned a lot from it and it taught me a lot of patience and I'm just trying to like move forward and continue. Patience is a hard thing to learn. It's the hardest thing in the world. I have not mastered it.

42:55I have not learned it. I mean same. I'm still. I'm on beginners. Yeah same. Well I'm like I'm like intermediate level now. How do you what like is there a practice you use to like find patience? Honestly just like I try to not in a unhealthy way distract myself but like put my energy into other things. That's yeah. I think that's what she always encourages me to do. That's the hardest thing. Just sort of staying on one topic and just overplaying it and thinking of all. You know, it's just like, that's doing nothing. Going in circles is doing nothing for you. That's what I have. Fuck, it is so hot in here.

43:29I am so sorry. I'm keeping you captive like the Bulgarian men in the movie. I'm literally holding you captive. You know what I'm obsessed with about the movie? Yeah, tell me. it's like a real true early 2000s we needed this we needed this for sure i need it's so fun and i love that we're we're playing into exactly what it is you know yes and you're so good in it yeah it is so cunty what i mean i'm not spoiling i mean it'll be out there's a dance number there's a dance number it is so fabulous and cunty thank you five six seven eight like it is yeah that's a fun moment. Thank you for watching it.

44:07That is so nice of you. Like you did not have to do that. Imagine I'm here. I'm like, so I didn't watch your movie. I mean, there's no way you can watch everything. Yeah, that is true. But I genuinely was super happy to watch it. It like let my mind at ease last night. Thank you. I had such, I was able to, that's my favorite thing about movies and television. You transport. I transport. That's why I like TV so much because I can transport into a world. A hundred percent. Like a completely new and separate world. Um, so I think my next one that I'm going to take on is Schitt's Creek. Yeah. So do you want to get into the tell me what's wrong?

44:38I do. So you're not like, I won't like leave you here stranded, sweating. I'm literally fine. I don't know if you know, but we can prescribe things. So like if someone comes in and is like, I'm traveling abroad with my friends and we're in a creepy Bulgarian hotel, I'd be like, well, I prescribed you pretty lethal. Yeah. A hundred percent. And I'm also a ballerina. Well, I prescribed you pretty lethal. Did you quickly before we get into these, did you watch any like, did you watch like any black swans? Yeah. All the things. But like, honestly, Kill Bill was a huge reference for us. And that was prior to Uma coming onto the project.

45:07Was it really? Yeah. How cool is that? Oh, it was absurd. Like, we landed and I found out and I was like, you are not going to, like, I was telling the girls, I was like, you're not going to believe, you're not going to believe. And they were like, who? And I was like, guess. And they were, I was, they couldn't, they were trying to think. And I was like, our reference. And they were like, it is not Uma. That's such a, that's such a kismet moment. It is. And she, which, I mean, she's the most unbelievably, like, kind, smart, just regal woman. And she was, like, I remember her saying, like, this is, like, some of the most fun she's had since Kill Bill.

45:41Oh, that's awesome. And you know she means that shit. 100%. Like, she's very authentic. Did you learn anything from her? I think just, like, her stillness and her calm, like, energy. And she also had to learn that crazy accent. Like, she was in, like, a full, like. Was she, like, this is hard for me? or was she like this is my job this is work I'm gonna do it she never made it look hard yeah I don't know if that's how she felt but she did it with ease why she's like one of the greatest like and she's a model so tall drop dead do you ever find yourself in situations where you're getting advice from someone like that and you're like wow I can't believe I can't believe I'm getting advice from someone like you right now and that's when you know like I gotta take this 100 because I'll get advice from someone and I'll say it to Louise and she'll be like I literally told you that and I'm like right but but it doesn't it's not Uma Thurman telling me that like all due respect it's true though I I think also the us being like you know you want to hear you really digest it and want to hear it from people who have literally lived all of the experiences like it just hits on a different level are you watching love story I haven't watched it yet should I watch it Sarah Pigeon in it I just she's so beautiful no the blonde you know she photoshopped blonde hair i heard that shot for the audition i'm gonna do that in the future i mean she like she's just like god it's so she played it she's i mean i don't i think she did i think she's done an incredible job great i think she's intoxicating to watch like yeah like intoxicate you can't take your eyes off of her i love that get her on the pod i wish i wish she's she's also so cool i i got to meet her the other day and she's just just as chic and fucking awesome in person and so beautiful yeah like naturally beautiful you'll love the show i think i really like the show it's cool it's cool seeing like um i feel like we were on 2000s nostalgia for so long and i think we're on to 90s i love i think that's what we're i wish i was born in the 90s you say that now and while i agree actually i think you're probably right when were you born the 1999 so i'm a 2000s baby as well I would say but um I I want to say I I but I wouldn't have the job I have that's true if I was born then I wouldn't have had like the second chance I got you know what I mean because like I could have pursued as you said like I you chose not to do what the fuck Billy Billy Elliot Billy I chose not to do theater as a kid and I always regretted it and then like TikTok kind of gave me this lane back in that I never would have thought you're doing everything but I really like TikTok was the way in.

48:17TikTok was the only reason I'm sitting here. You are TikTok. Thank you. I don't feel like I am, but thank you. I've been in love with my situationship for a year and a half and he recently admitted to me that he feels the same and wants a future. Obsessed. The only problem is all of my friends genuinely hate him. And I get why because we have been a little toxic. On and off again. We use each other as a crutch, etc. How do I either get them off my back or explain that it's going to be okay. Well, it's not going to be okay. It's not going to be okay. I prescribe tell me lies. You think? Have you ever been in like a situation ship?

48:53I've always said I've wanted a situation ship and the second I get close to one, I'm like, this feels like death. I feel like it either ends good or bad. There's no in between. And being in the in between phase is just a no-go. Also, like, yeah, if you're admitting that you're toxic in this situation is toxic. the sex must be amazing though for sure like dick can do anything it's legit a wand like it is it is it's a fucking wand but it's like yeah whatever so you so you prescribe tell me lives well just tell me lies just to like unfortunately it's just like that's well i mean i never finished tell me lies and i need to because iris is in season three and I really want to watch it.

49:40Yeah, she's great in it. I heard Steven just like. Oh, he just goes off. I've heard he becomes like, you can't even say he's hot. Like it's like legitimately indefensible. I've never liked him. I've never had a moment where I've liked him. What's his situation again? Like his home life. Like he has like a bad like. Oh, yeah, he's bad. He's bad. And apparently in season three. Great actor, but. Yeah. Yeah. Apparently in season three, it's like to the point of like, for real. Yeah. But he does have this hilarious moment on the very end of the show that is just like, it's so funny. Like he goes off.

50:12Really? And it's, I was laughing. So how does it end?

50:20I just, wait, do you see the chills on my arms? Like after, and he goes. I'm going to be sick. Yeah. My mom is constantly depending on me to be her safe space to bitch about my sister and her husband. and most of the time I'm just not in the mood to hear the negativity. When I try to put up a boundary and say, I just don't really want to talk about this, she gets all pissy, it's pushing me away from her, and then I feel guilty because she doesn't have anyone to talk to. Honestly, I understand that. Not that my parents do that in that same situation, but parents are going to go to their kids and be like, it's hard.

50:51It is hard. It's also hard when it's like, this is something that I've really, just through years of, whether it be other people's experiences or whatnot, at the end of the day, you are still the kid, even if you, you know, like. Yeah. It's hard to, like, feel that way, though. Sometimes I'm like, oh, I feel bad. I know. Because it's also that cliche of, like, you grew up and you're like, wow. Now I'm supposed to. Yeah, and parents are experiencing life for the first time, too. That's what I always say, yeah. It is a hard thing. And they don't have everything figured out. And, like, they feel safe enough to want to confide in you and whatever.

51:28But that's a slippery slope. Yeah, I don't know what I would prescribe for that. A therapist. A therapist. Like talk to a therapist about that. Yeah, like a real, like go through the trials and tribulations of getting a good one. Yeah. I am like using already what my therapist told me about earlier today and it's already been helpful. That's amazing. So I'm low-key juggling men at the moment obsessed. Usually boys only want to hook up, but recently I've had like three guys ask me on dates and I low-key like them all. So fun. So fun. And IDK is in the air right now, but everyone is being boyfriend material, and I'm overwhelmed.

52:02Who do I pick? What do I do? Obviously, I prescribe that episode of Hannah Montana where she has to pick between. Who did she have to pick between? Jake. Jesse. And Jake. And Jake. You obviously have to watch that. Oh, my God. I just, like, woke up. I mean, that, like, informed my, like, childhood for sure. I never got it then. But it's, once again, a timeless piece of art. You never got Hannah Montana? No, I got Hannah Montana, but I never understood the stress that she had between choosing. Oh, same. But like that's timeless. I just mean like Hannah Montana in general. And also did you see the anniversary that's happening?

52:33Did that come out yet? I don't know, but I'm sad. I'm sad. Did you like watch weekly? Of course. I don't remember like watching weekly. Oh, that every day. Extra room that I made my parents put strobe lights and like his fog machine and I can perform Hannah Montana concerts. It really is a brilliant concept. Oh, it's the - Student by day, pop star by night. No, 100%. It's literally a brilliant concept. concept my favorite thing especially in the hannah montana movie when she finally reveals and takes the wig off i'm like she looks exactly the same like it's it's so funny because it's like such a elevator sequence or the the revolving door oh my gosh it's so good it's just it's awesome and of course taylor swift wrote the music for that album like it's just so good it's all perfect it was divine timing like everything was divine it really was you know he didn't know what hannah Montana was.

53:23I knew what it was. But you never watched it. No. You need to watch it. No way. He's not going to enjoy it. Yeah. You think he's going to sit down at... How old are you? 22? Yeah. Actually, honestly, Nolan, I think you could. It might change you. I think you could. Nolan's going to come at me like sweet nipples. Yeah, it's really funny, honestly. It is funny. Or at least I remember it being really funny. I would say my favorite Disney show of all time, though, is That's So Raven. Like, that's the one for me that still gets me to laugh. I was a Cheetah Girls boy. I loved the Cheetah Girls. I used to run around elementary school and tell everyone my dad directed the movie Lies.

53:57No, you did not. Yeah, see, I did. Why that one? I don't know. I thought it would give me street cred. I would be like, he directed Cheetah Girls 2 in Barcelona. No way. Yes, I swear. That's really funny. And did you feel guilty about that or no? Yeah, I did. So I like, obviously, my dad was like, are you telling? Because like, someone called me and was like, are you telling people that I direct? Is he a director? He's a writer. Okay. And so it, like, the lie, like, actually somewhat worked. Okay. I thought you were going to be like, no, he's like an orphan. No, no, he's a writer. So that's why I was able to get away with the lie for, like, a full 24 hours.

54:28But I didn't get past that. I have ADHD and growing up I had no patience to sit and watch movies slash TV. Now I'm 22 and want to start watching. I actually really feel this. I just don't know where to start. I've watched very few shows, like, almost none. I feel so excluded when people talk about shows and want to get into it. You and Beautiful Guest, you, should recommend a good show to start. Okay, I think we should recommend Scandal. I agree. Because if you have ADHD, it will keep you captive. And it's a repetitive thing, so you'll be able to, like, you know, it's not too, I mean, a lot is going on.

55:02But, like, you're locking yourself into something that you're like, okay. I would say that there are TV shows that you have to give a season or two. You don't have to do that. You don't have to do that with Scandal. So if you want to, like, do TV for beginners, not that Scandal is, like, TV for beginners. No. The plot moves at a faster pace than - Absolutely. And you're in. You're like - You're a gladiator. Yeah. And I also think like sometimes people with ADHD, at least I struggle with this, is like I can't get through the first 10 minutes. Just get through the first 10. Get through the first episode.

55:32Watch the second. Give yourself grace to like get into it. Just sit and watch. 100%. And it will work. Make yourself a good snack. Like get comfy. So we prescribe scandal. Yeah. My boyfriend listens through his AirPods every night in bed to fall asleep. I always assumed it was music or white noise. No. Don't tell me. I don't know where this is going yet either. His AirPod fell out one night and I heard strange noises. I put it in and it was... And it was a constant stream of a woman seductively whispering and moaning. What the fuck? I want to bring this up. He's so perfect. Otherwise, you have to say something.

56:08You absolutely... The fact that you haven't is crazy. Once again, divine timing. His AirPod fell out. And how sweet of you to just assume... I would also assume like, oh, he's probably just listening to a podcast. But did you never ask, like, what do you listen to? No, I'm blaming the woman. I would think it's like whale noises. You need to just be like, what's up? Because I heard, do you think it's porn? Do you think he's watching? That's where my brain went. And if that's the case, then that's obviously just not okay. He clearly has demons. For sure. But, you know. You need to address it. I wouldn't prescribe like a breakup.

56:42No, I think I prescribe like a proper like sit down talk. You can imagine. He's going to start crying. I'm so embarrassed, girl. I would too. Yeah. And honestly, you should be embarrassed. Yes. That's weird. It's embarrassing. I would feel if I was the girl, I totally, I can't even imagine how she's feeling. I would feel sick to myself. I would feel sick. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I don't know what to prescribe you. A sit down talk. Watch the show. Intervention. Yeah. But stay strong on this. Like, don't let him, like, make you feel like you're weird for listening. Like, you know, like, that's weird.

57:16Oh, yeah, you can't let him gaslight you. You know what I mean? 100%. You can't let him gaslight you. You have to be like, it was not weird. It is weird. Like, do not distract. Do not distract. 100%. If he's like, oh, my mom. You know, he goes into something. Like, that's weird. What? You really agree with that. Do you know from personal? Do you know someone? I thought it was, like, parental issues. Oh, got it, got it, got it, got it, got it, got it, got it. I'm in love with someone I can't be in love with and I don't know how to let it pass. Oh girl, I've been there. I felt this for two years but I missed my opportunity and now my best friend has been dating this guy for a year and a half.

57:48Oh, that's rough. The reason I'm writing in is because he just proposed to her literally sobbing. Like he's so kind to me still and so hubby but I can't have him help. It's like real heartbreak. There's nothing to do. The only thing that will get you through that is a piece of art. An album about unrequited love, a show about it, a movie about it and watching somebody else go through it. because that is your best friend and her man. Hindsight is 20-20. There's nothing you can do. I would maybe listen to The One by Taylor Swift, obviously. Maybe in hindsight, that just wasn't the person for you.

58:20Like it's, you know. But it could have been. It could have been. It could have been, but it's not. But it's not. Have you seen Past Lives? Yes. Watch Past Lives. Past Lives is. Wow, watch Past Lives. That's a great recommendation. That's a great prescription. Thank you. Yeah. I think one of the most difficult parts about growing up is realizing that life isn't fair. For sure. And it's like really come. And a lot of people will be like, how did you not realize that sooner? But people come to that realization when they need to. Absolutely. And like kind of sitting with the fact that like life owes you nothing and life is so unfair is a really tough lesson to learn.

58:56It really is. So like give yourself grace. Like you can be upset. Allow yourself to be upset. 100%. I would be devastated. I would be so heartbroken. But don't get messy. No, don't get messy. And like if they seem happy, I mean, they're clearly engaged. So it seems like that's like the icing on the cake. It's going to be a rough year. But maybe the universe is protecting you from something that could have conspired. I don't know. You need to, it's going to be a rough year. What you need to do is put yourself on the dating market now. And do not go in with the intent of like, I need to find someone now to like distract myself.

59:29But just like go on dates. Yeah. I hate dating. I've never really done it. Oh, it's literally like you sit across. How are you? Oh, I'm good. How are you? It's literally weather talk. Is it so awkward? It's like legit weather talk. Yes. Because I'm so insecure that the entire, and especially like gay dating, the only thing I can think about is like, is this a friend date or is this a real date? So until we make that move of a kiss, that's the only thing playing in my head. I'm all getting it again and again and again and again and again. 100%. Like all I can think about is that. That's so valid.

59:58So until someone kisses, that's why my love language is words of affirmation. I love words of affirmation. to tell me that you want me and like i'm like desirable 100 what's your love language i would say it's a little bit of i would say like words of affirmation i do love physical touch and quality time yeah i like physical touch honestly all of them except for gifts like i don't really care about yeah i don't care about gifts i like giving people gifts but like i think also acts of service is so important to me like what's the difference between that and gift giving i think well like when my for instance like is that a ridiculous no no like for instance like my boyfriend is very like, he makes me dinner every night.

1:00:36He cooks for us every night. He'll like set everything up. He'll take, like I go to like grab the trash and he's like, no, no, no, I'm going to take out the trash. You know, like. Are you listening to this? You have a beautiful life. You have a beautiful life. I do. He takes out the trash, makes you dinner. Yeah. And you're a movie star.

1:00:56And like, yeah, no, it's really nice.

1:01:02But you know what? After the year you had last year, you deserve it. I deserve it. Thank you. You deserve it. You deserve this beautiful life. Thank you so much. You deserve this beautiful life, and I am so happy for you. Thank you so much. I mean, I don't have, like, a perfect life. Of course not. But you deserve these great things that are happening to you. Thank you. Not that you need to hear it from me. No, I do. I appreciate that so much. But, yeah. How did we even get here? Something with. Was it the air? Are we still on the AirPods? No, we're on the girl. She needs to move. Yeah, she needs to move on.

1:01:31But I'm telling you right now, it's going to be a tough year. You need to make light of it. You need to find that one girl. You need to find like a Peyton or Julia or a Brett to just like be like, or like an Alice, like to be like, can you believe this is happening? Like I'm going to kill myself. Not actually. But like this is so horrible. Like I'm miserable right now. Yeah. And they'll be like, yeah, this sucks. And just laugh about it. The only thing to do is laugh. What else are you going to do? Cry? No. There's two options. There's literally two options. Laugh, cry, or sit. Or three, I guess.

1:02:00and do nothing. Or all three at the same time. I've been in a total flop state at work. I had multiple typos and one important email. I fully ended a large meeting that I was running on accident and subsequently, Tate's the wins. Okay. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. What? What just happened? So for context, who was the guest? Tate. I did, I moderated a Q &A for Tate's new album. Okay. And I couldn't pronounce the word subsequently. And you just did it? Yeah. With ease. With ease. But like the Hollywood reporter posted it and I said, subsequently. No, no. Subsequently would have been better than what I said.

1:02:41I said, I'll send you the video. It was really embarrassing. But I said, I stitched it and I said, you'll get him next time. And you know what? You did. I got him. You got him. I got him this time. I'm so happy for you. Thank you. That must feel really good. Sit in that feeling. I'm sitting there. And subsequently cried in a conference room alone and that someone via Zoom told me to stay on mute. I'm so burnt out. How do I remedy this? Well, I think you just told me you had a rough year. How do you remedy? I know it's not the same because your job is to be an actress and this person very clearly works at like a corporate nine to five.

1:03:17But I would say, like, did you feel burnt out last year? Was that a feeling that you encountered? Probably a little bit. And how did you remedy that? It's just trying not to sit in that field. It's just like hard. Try and just put yourself out there for a new job. Maybe this isn't the job where you're meant to be. I got fired from an internship. You don't get fired from internship. Like, let me like put that really laid out for you. You don't get fired from internships. That's not something you get fired from. And I got fired from it with like, and I just picked it up, got ramen and moved on. I called my dad.

1:03:48I said, you'll never believe it. I got fired from my internship. He said, really? I said, yes. And then I went, partied all weekend and got back. Period. Learned my lesson. Honestly, sometimes that's just what you got to do. like sitting in it. Like you have to just find things to put your energy into, keep it moving. Also, you're allowed to make mistakes. Everything is so immortalized. 100%. These days, like writing it. Imagine back in the day, like someone probably signed off on a note for a pigeon wrong and got home, went home to speaking at period pieces, came home and was like, I sent out the worst thing and they really can't fix that or send a follow-up because that pigeon is gone or the mail is gone.

1:04:24Like it was probably so much worse 100 years ago. 100%. It was probably so much worse. We have so much access to so much. Like we just need to like keep it moving. Keep it moving. Keep it moving. Keep it moving. And trust me, I'm sure your personality is great and you're so fun. I would watch maybe Horrible Bosses. Watch Horrible Bosses. Have you seen Horrible Bosses? So good. So good. My boyfriend is so obsessed with sports. He talks about it all the time and watches it 24-7 even if we are out on dates. I think that's Charmin. Sorry. We're walking around. I hate it and I've expressed that and he doesn't seem to care because his team is his priority.

1:04:55like it's such an ick but I understand that that's the culture what do I do in defense of the boyfriend quickly when the eras tour was happening and like your whole life it was my whole life like I would be out at dinner and I would have the live stream up to see like that was my sports to see which to see which surprise song she was gonna sing okay it was so fun it brought me joy yeah it clearly brings him joy I was gonna say like I I her saying that she he knows that he she hates that so much is is sad because it's like you should like but even if it's not your thing that makes your partner happy and you should just like let them have their thing if it's something to where it's like genuinely coming in between their time their quality time together maybe it's like you find a compromise of like i can do it like you can watch it here but maybe if we're having like a nice sit down dinner like maybe for me taylor had a show every night i was clocked in like if someone who i was seeing was like i hate this i would not see them anymore that was my passion that is my passion like i don't know what to say like yeah that was like that brought me like eras tour summers i think it was two summers right that it was over um was probably the most joy i've ever felt in my entire life sitting down watching those live streams like you you would watch a live stream of the concert and it was so fun like she would pick out a different outfit sometimes we were like oh yeah like she first started dating travis okay this is i'll never forget this when she first started dating travis and it became like very public knowledge that we were dating she went back on tour in europe and we were all like what surprise song is she gonna do and she did labyrinth because in it she says uh-oh i'm falling in love again and so like obviously we were all like freaking out because you know she meant that shit too that's really cute that's my sports that's my super bowl that's my everything yeah so you get it like i get it i get the guy i think it's hot when people are interested like just being interested in what they're interested in like even if it's not your thing it's like if they're passionate about something then i think it's hot yeah i think it's hot too to have to see someone care for something i think is cool absolutely but that's a lesson i learned with time you asked me that three years ago i would have been like loser fucking loser break up with him like and now i'm like okay like you know that's his thing yeah that's his thing yeah my best do you watch love island i i've watched the last three seasons okay i i'm not a big watcher but i did watch rob season my best friend is going out with this guy who might be going on love island soon run run run you have to you have to he has other priorities he has other priorities and that's not that's not bad to him but he has other priorities especially now like people who go on now are literally like they're doing it for one reason i would say rob's season changed the game for sure that season anything after that season it's like and honestly i'm all all respect if you want to pursue a career and that and it's given people some incredible careers oh my god oh landria i was just gonna say landria is like a full-on model and she's a model she's a model she has these incredible fashion moments and it's all because of love island but i would say if you're looking for love with this guy outside of this show yeah you are bound to get your feelings hurt because he's going to be on a reality television show looking for love it's just not at all normal in any way that circumstance is crazy right she said he is like an influencer dude so what should she do she says she likes him and she thought it was going further but she found out by looking through his phone when he got dm'd by the love island admin girl i mean run he's not telling you the truth already run i 100 agree i think keep it moving and also reality television is like I don't think this makes him a bad person so I'm not like trying to like blast the guy.

1:08:28maybe might have ulterior motives. Actually I would say him not telling her a shady AF. That is weird. So yeah. I would watch Love Island and be like okay this is what I'm about to have to put myself through if I date this guy. 100%. Not happening. You're gonna have to watch him make out with people on camera. That was the last of the tell me what's wrong. Perfect. Did you have fun? I had so much fun. I had so much fun that took me out of a really dark space for a minute. I'm so glad. I think you're so amazing and I love your show and I'm honestly honored to be here. I am so honored to have you and I'm so excited to get dinner this weekend.

1:08:57We have to. Yes, we have to. Like, I have your number. Yeah. I'll make a group chat. Great. And we'll do it. Perfect. Well, Maddie, what did we learn today? I think we learned that we need to take a deep breath sometimes when things get hard. Yeah. Yeah. And also, like, spending time with people without a phone. Yes. And just talking to them straight on. 100%. It's really nice. like sometimes and you can't ever really fully control this but like I try to surround myself with people that are going to give me energy not deplete my energy you know what I mean and I feel like this gave me energy I feel like this gave me energy too I'm so glad and that's what I took away from it I'm so happy we have the same takeaway same we'll see you in New York I'll see you in York.

1:09:40Bye pussies.
