In short
Tyriq Withers discusses therapy/mental health (OCD, anxiety, attachment), navigating public-facing fame, and how he interprets stories and “truth” through multiple perspectives. He also talks about his career path (YouTube/Vine/musical.ly to acting), his new film Reminders of Him (not a sequel), and fandom anxiety when adapting a bestselling Colleen Hoover book. Additional segments include travel/hotel shower inclusivity, bath vs shower routines, body image frustrations (love handles), and favorite music/TV.
Guests
None. The episode is a solo guest interview with Tyriq Withers (host “Cassidy”/“Casey” is the interviewer).
Guest background
Jacksonville, Florida; started on YouTube, then Vine/musical.ly; early acting included Legacies (CW). Appears in Reminders of Him; also recently did Broadway (touring and current run). Worked with Madeline Klein on I Know What You Did Last Summer; mentions Jordan Peele and Nicholas Braun/Jenny Slate.
Key claims
He changed therapists because the new one addresses OCD with a specialized approach (Luvox later comes up as helpful for OCD/anxiety). He describes chronic anxiety and “hyper-aware energies,” and says he “raw dogs” OCD without meds until recently. He says success is “luck meets hard work” and he had to prove himself daily on major sets.
Notable examples
Meeting Doja Cat at LAKMA; being introduced by Paris Hilton; Disney adult debates; Colleen Hoover on set daily; a CCTV incident where he chased a suspected purse thief; Broadway schedule and drinking affecting sleep; discussing a Reminders of Him scene involving a mother not being allowed to see her kids and the role of drinking/edibles.

0:27Ba-dum! get them banned get them banned oh we don't do that here oh now i'm pissed happy friday pussies and welcome back to therapist and surprise today we have on tyreek withers who is in the new film reminders of him if you are thinking this looks familiar it's because it is cas has not moved i'm not moving all time um and is there anything you want to tell the pussies this fine friday I feel like shit And that's literally everything I have to say right now Do you think we've developed our attachment styles any differently? Um, no Yeah, it's not gonna happen for a while But we're healing and we're all in therapy I am with new therapists Why did you change your therapist?
1:17Because I was just talking shit with my old one Love you But I was just talking shit with my old one All the time That's all I would do And that bothered you? And all I was doing was sitting there and talking shit. And then I would tell her something that would happen with my OCD and she would be like, OMG. Whereas like my new therapist is like, oh, that's this. And you need to combat it by doing this because I'm in a new form of therapy special for OCD. Yeah, that's good. I'm proud of you. Thanks. I'm ghosting my therapist again. You just said you're in therapy and you're healing. That was three months ago.
1:47I'm ghosting my therapist at the moment. You just said what you're Cassidy right now on this intro. You just said you were in currently in present tense in therapy and healing. And now you're saying that was three months ago. And I lied because I haven't seen my therapist in three months and I was healing. And now I'm taking a fucking break because I don't want to see her. I don't want to talk about things right now. So I ghost her and then I see her again in like a month. Oh, it's fine. Do you believe therapy is for summer? No, I think I'm happier in summer. so you think we shouldn't do therapy in summer i actually believe we shouldn't no i don't need therapy in summer and why'd you ask me that because you're happier in summer are you yeah the sun's out i feel good i'm tan i'm skinny like well today we have on tyreek withers who's lovely hilarious and just the best he's also once again in the new film reminders of him which is also amazing okay i love you pussies enjoy the episode

4:27I was, oh, I was a role model in the Sally music video. Oh, yes, yes. Iconic. Cheeky. I was just, you know, six foot five Teletubby. You dressed up as a, I thought you were about to say you dressed up as six foot five. I was like, what? You dressed up as a Teletubby? What'd you do on Halloween? What did I do on Halloween? I don't know. I just made a fool of myself, you know. Oh, I was. You know, Dipsy. You know, the green Teletubby with the... How old are you? Okay, we're getting into it. How old are you? Take a guess. 28? 27. I am so sorry. Yeah, I know. You're aging me up. Just, you know, the way you carry yourself.
5:14Very gentlemanly. Very gentlemanly. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you got your start on Atlanta? I got my start on YouTube. Oh, yeah, those videos. That was my first professional job, leading something. But my first professional professional was an episode of Legacies on CW. I played a Wolf Tour student. I was about to say, is Legacies the vampire spinoff? Yeah, it's like the third one. I think it goes Ordinaries. No, the original. Sorry, the song Ordinaries is always. Something so out. Angels up in the cloud.
5:53It's the theme of our movie. The Ordinary. Okay, okay, okay. Wait, okay, continue. So you started? Yeah, yeah, yeah. YouTube, then Legacy. Yeah, YouTube, Vine was like the first thing. You were a Viner? I tried to be a Viner. You'd be a good Viner. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I trust. I was trying to make it to L.A. I didn't have a phone to edit on, so that was a hard thing to do. Like, you know, back in the day, you have to, like, download third-party apps. to like download this video that you know like edits videos down it's confusing so uh i tried to make some vines and then i moved to musically did you make any musicallys you did not make musicallys yes i did did you do like that did you actually yeah do you have them still yeah Yeah.
6:47You're not going to see him, though. No, you have to show me. Yeah, yeah, I'll show you. What songs did you do musical.ly to? Was it Sartorius, Jacob Sartorius songs? That was like the one. I tried to get my hair like that. It didn't work out. So where are you from? Where am I from? I am from Jacksonville, Florida. Oh, I... No, you don't. Yeah, sorry. You're trying to be nice. I was going to say, I love Florida. I know. There's parts of it you have to love. It might be underwater in the next few years But it's fine You think global warming? Yeah You really think so? I believe in global warming Sorry I'm not an idiot But like I'm just saying You think it's going to happen that quick?
7:37Well Who's to say? You just now Depending on what part of Florida you know um we got to keep disney alive have you been to disney world yes i've been to disney world and land you've never been yeah criminal i know criminal do you judge people who go like adults who know because i think it's like beautiful to still hold on to like little things like that i do think like it gets to a point yeah it gets to a point where it's like that isn't that princess is not real yeah you're in psychosis yeah i keep something that she is not real like and also i guess my confusion with disney adults and i don't mean to sound so rude is that what is so special it's like okay like i'm a like like i like i'm a stand for like pop girls right and some some people can tell you that that's comparable but i actually don't agree like what is like mickey mouse isn't releasing new music like you know what i mean like he's not like you have like you're watching the same exactly you're watching the same beauty and the beast over and over and over and over and over and over again what is that doing for you you know i did disney right the finally you know uh i went with somebody rich uh britney broski uh oh she took you to disney she took me disney she had the chaperone we like skipped the line oh yeah land or world uh which one's la land land it's not as good as world i mean world's a world yeah world's like a whole situation that one i've only done like once and i was like a teenager but i've done disneyland a couple times but we me and britney broski went and it's kind of you once you go with the chaperone well you're you're a-lister so you have to like go bodyguard like what did you just say yes you're you're no hollywood a-list you're hollywood royalty you walk that back right now yeah i'm walking it back let's take it back you can't go to disneyland or world without give me a real like okay like i'm not a list brad pitt is a list what list would you put me on realistically and minuses and pluses can be included right i mean didn't you you don't you have like the you know like you can say i'm b b plus c minus so just give it a real real and true honest answer like look hopefully i have many years left in this career so like i can always work up so give me your honest answer where i'm at right now i think uh with all the cosons you know like people vouching for you i think you're like in a a minus no stop stop i swear to god the real a b plus b plus okay i'll take a b b plus uh a i'm gonna say a minus but you you feel like it you know you really just made my day yeah t-y-s-m see you're welcome so much uh so whenever you go to disney chaperone Yeah, chaperone with me.
10:41With you. We'll go. We have to go like, do you drink? Yes, I drink. Okay, all right. Do you drink? Yes, I drink. Do I drink? My middle name is Taquila. Sorry. Is it really? Drink responsibly, kids. Not kids, sorry. Adults, sorry. My publicist is going to be like, yeah, everything's fine. Nothing matters. Nothing matters. You don't think nothing matters? Nothing matters because at the end of the day, it's the end of the day and the sun's gonna shine at the end of the day is the end of the day yeah yeah it's my first tattoo your tattoo says at the end of the day it's the end of the day yep it's where it's on it's right no i'm kidding kidding no tattoos no tattoos oh i thought you were dead serious and i was trying to be polite nope i was like really freaking out okay so you are in reminders of him yeah yeah yeah which is not a him sequel it's not no it's not we have to we have to clarify that yes um but yeah you had to clarify that yeah a lot of people think oh it's the sequel because okay but you are in reminders of him yeah yeah reminders the soundtrack is incredible yes i came here to ask you or i guess i'm here i but the most pressing subject on my mind that casey musgrave song that plays in it is that an original for the movie um what's the name of the song don't know so the song name don't know uh don't know i honestly don't know when i was watching it last night with my best friend peyton in bed we were like we had to pause it and be like is this an original for this movie really see i watched it in a a screening theater so i couldn't pause it and appreciate all the music so i had to run it back but it might be an original um can i ask you a question about the movie so they won't let her see her kids yeah was she drinking that night like did i miss it i kept looking at peyton being like was she drunk in the car like why are they so angry at her i think it was a mix of uh drinking and uh like edibles like so so they were under the influence under the influence and it was a misconception of but but she didn't crash the car the car bumped yeah bumped but she fled the scene to go get help but then yeah she woke up and it looked like she fled the scene she like passed out so are you on her side i'm on her side like if you were those parents would you be like get fucked or like no if i was the parents get fucked put her under the jail yeah because it's all perspective that's my baby you killed right right uh but i think that's the cool thing about the story is just all different perspectives and And then there's three sides to every story.
13:15Their side, my side. Three sides? Yeah. Their side, my side, and the truth. What do you mean by, oh my God, wait, I'm sick. Yeah. I'm sick over that a little. Think about it. Because I think we're all emotional human beings. So we have like a perspective on stories. And so we attach emotion to how like something happens to us. And so we'll tell a story like. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I was very confused for five seconds. you attach emotion to something that yeah we're not like just logic like you know okay okay okay and then there's the truth yeah the truth you know it's like hey i slapped this person because they made me feel this way and then it's like their side is like he just slapped me out of nowhere but you know you provoked me the truth yeah which would be what you slapped him whatever god says or whatever are you a religious man i'm not a religious man okay i believe there's higher power by spiritual i think religion man uh there's trauma when religion because i had like a step parent like fear mongering me with religion oh i'm so sorry i'm on that like journey of figuring it out how did you take yourself out of that i think you just you get older and you know like you go to college and then you surround yourself with you know people and then you start having fun and realize again nothing matters and yeah you just age out of it and distance yourself and now we're here do you ever find yourself like going back to that when you get anxiety or anxious yeah yeah like going back to like the fear mongering that was instilled in you yeah yeah absolutely i think um you know it made me like ocd like hyper fixate on you know am i a bad person i have the same exact ocd i'm not kidding yeah don't you feel like a bad person all the time All the time.
15:04And it's like chronic, you know, it's like, I know I'm not a bad person, but I'm always hyper aware of energies. And like, did I, but that's why I, I feel like, do you ever find it then hard to be public facing? Because then if somebody comes at you and says you're a bad person, you're just about like, you're like, wait, I know. Yeah. And then you're like, you have so many brief interactions and you just want to make sure because like now that I have art out in the world, people have an idea of me. And when they see me for like 15 seconds, you know, I have this anxiety of like wanting to like make it worth their while.
15:37And it just becomes this, you know, exhausting experience because I'm just always on. And it's like not that I'm performing, but I'm just I just want this person. I see this person. I want to make sure they're having a good moment. Experience with you as well. Exactly. Oh, I did not know you had OCD. Do you take anything to manage that? No, I just raw dog. Really? Yeah, just raw dog. Okay, well, not to like put you onto something, but I've been taking Luvox recently and it's been amazing. It helps? Like you just don't care? I think so. Do beta blockers help with that? Beta blockers help with the physical symptoms of anxiety.
16:14I'm chronically anxious, you know. Are you anxious right now? Absolutely. What can I do to help you be less anxious? Tequila? No. I mean, we do have that.
16:29It's 1130. okay but yeah yeah no we're fine we're fine i think this conversation's great you know you know i'm glad you said that once again we'll cut this but you can have you a final edit no no i love the episode i love you i love this mu mu look show the audience the mu mu i see it i see it serve it's the lore show the watch show the watch okay if you insist you after Yeah. Okay. Oh, man. You got it. You show your watch. Uh-huh. This is a present. Oh, the two-tone is just gorgeous. Two-tone. Oh. Present from the late and great Colleen Hoover. Co-ho. Co-ho.
17:13So when you went into filming for this movie, it's unlike anything you've done because it's a book prior. You've seen my work. yes really what do you mean you mean wow i didn't of course i've seen i've seen atlanta i've seen him oh wow yeah yes yes and you know what else i saw i know what you did last summer i know what you did last summer and you worked on that with my best friend in the entire world madeline klein madeline klein love maddie klein greatest of all time bro if it wasn't for maddie klein that shoot would have been it would have been really hell to get through just because you're like distance from home you're in Australia Sydney you're in southern hemisphere anything bad happen I'm blaming it on the southern hemisphere I feel like she is so good to like have on set I feel like she makes for such a warm set I've never been on set with her but yeah I know her as a friend yeah and like she is one of the most inviting kind people and hard-working hard-working and you know down the clown you know yeah down to clown the clown and I think you kind of need that I'm not the type of actor that like needs to like oh leave me alone no i need to stay focused i just right i do my job i show up but i like to like the in-betweens i like to enjoy myself right um we played a lot of pool there's this one video uh cctv footage uh it was me and maddie uh hanging out at a bar uh and then we went outside on the patio but we were playing pool when she left her purse uh like on on this chair and then there's this guy and that walks over to her purse and tries to steal her purse.
18:45And I come running out of the back patio, chasing him through the bar and downstairs, outside. And I chased him for like a mile. And he was like on a rugby team. And I have CCTV footage. Oh, he was committed to the bit of stealing her purse. Absolutely. She had to like cancel everything. Did he steal the purse? No, it looked like he was taking photos of like the purse. Yeah. Oh, that's scary. Do you know what I find confusing? Pickpocketing in this day and age. people don't necessarily carry around cash with them anymore you know what i mean so like you're sending my credit card go have fun for five seconds i'm gonna cancel it and report it as fraud yeah especially amex amex is good at like oh amex is especially if you pay your bills on time like they're like oh we know this is this is fraud right yeah do you know those videos like attention pickpocket oh i do i do pickpocket pickpocket it was that in italy uh italy paris uh wherever wherever i think it's funny i mean sometimes they yell it and they're not even pickpocketing right you can't pickpocket me you're gonna get like uh empty like like a snickers wrapper and like i hate snickers yeah what yeah i do really it's something it's like the perfect you know what it is it's the fucking caramel i hate caramel oh is it caramel caramel caramel caramel caramel audience i love i love my publicist so much she's like the most comfortable under put the comforter on her go to bed she's like ad-libbing the episode it's 11 30 i want to be you when i grow up so but my question my initial question was the book was huge it's huge like seven million copies sold right so but these books have fandoms pre-attached to them yeah right yeah so they have these fans have ideas of what they think the movie is going to look like and what they want the movie to look like and you've never done anything like that before yeah i know what you did last summer was a sequel sure it has fans but that was a sequel absolutely this you're stepping into a world where there's a fandom was there any anxiety surrounding that or did you not really think about it yeah no it's always this immense amount of anxiety because like you know books it's all imaginative it's you know people from where were we like kansas who like have they have their idea of who ledger is the character i play and yeah and You just want to like breathe life into this character in the proper way.
21:23You know, in the book, there's like, Kenna loves the way he points. You know, you're like, I just want to make sure I'm pointing properly. But then having Colleen Hoover be on set every day. She's on set. This is the only movie she's done that she's on set every day. I've seen some of your beginning videos when you're like. A baby. A baby. And you're like starting over. You're like trying to intro the video. I know And you just had your Broadway debut Broadway debut Yeah How has that been for you? It's been amazing Yeah It's the final week And It's been So it's It's So I went on tour Last year I did a tour For this show Which I actually found Far more difficult Than Broadway Probably because I was on stage alone For two hours Yeah But for Broadway It's very like Rinse and repeat Like you do the same thing Every night Obviously, there's little ad libs here and there because I'm working with like such great comedians that are so quick and able to do that.
22:21Yeah. But I think the hard part is when you have two shows on Saturday and two shows on Sunday because I drink. And so I drink every Friday. Yes. And so I last week, I went out Friday. When I'm sleeping at a guy's house, I'm just like. But I didn't I didn't sleep at all. And I was like, like, he didn't have anything to put me to bed. I was like oh my god I'm gonna freak out He had some melatonin but like That's lightweight I mean like My sleep cocktail goes Crazy but so I didn't sleep And I was hungover so on like The first Saturday show I was literally Like a dead man Oh it's tough being an icon I know but it's been great Did you ever watch like Everyone Loves Raymond I did not Okay well I'm working with Ray Romano do you watch Succession Yes oh shit I'm working with Nicholas Braun, who's about just as tall as you are.
23:17Yeah, the tall one. Yeah, and I'm working with Jenny Slate, who is incredible as well. Yeah, and I know how intense, well, I haven't done Broadway. I know how intense that schedule is for you to take the time out to interview me. I was like, I even checked in with my team. I was like, so when is this happening? He's on Broadway. Oh, my God. No, you know what? The schedule, at least for this show, really isn't that intense. The show starts at 730. I get to the theater at 630 and then I do the show. It's really like it's they've made the environment so warm and welcoming and easy that it's like you put on your costume, put on your mic, you go do the show and then you sign playbills and then you go home.
23:54It's really like and it's fun. Like, you know what I mean? It doesn't feel it really doesn't feel like work because it is so fun. And like, like doing like getting to hear people laugh in real time at something you've said. Yeah. It's like the best feeling. there's like no comparable feeling in the entire world to that to me. So like, I, it doesn't feel, it doesn't feel like work. Yeah. It was Broadway like acting the, the goal. Yeah. No, it's, it's so funny how things kind of just some, some of the best things in your life kind of just come to you. Yeah. You know what I mean? Like when you're a good person, what, when you're a good person too, hopefully.
24:30Yeah. No, no. Do you think I'm a good person? I feel that you're a good person. Okay. Like I have intuition. You do. What's your, what's your, what's your star sign? My star sign? Yeah. Green flag. What? My star sign is a green flag. I'm a walking green flag. Okay. But when is your birthday, Tyreek? We don't have to get into star signs because I'm going to tell you and then you're going to look at me differently. Are you a fucking Gemini? No. Yuck! What are you? Tell me. I'm with cancer. That's beautiful. Oh, you like cancer. I love cancer. That must mean you love your family so much. You love being home.
25:10Yeah, I love stuff. Do you cry all the time? I wouldn't say all the time. I would say like - Be honest. You know, a couple times a week, you know. You know I haven't cried since 2019. Really? Mm-hmm. All up in here. Are you okay? Nope. What's your star sign? Scorpio. Oh. Yeah. You're Scorpio? October, November. Ooh, you're crazy. Yeah. Yeah. Are you in a relationship? Stop flirting. Are you the crazy one? I'm not flirting. Before we started the episode, I heard you flirting. We are not flirting. He has a boyfriend. I love it. I love it. Yeah. So, yeah. What would you say? What would younger you say to you right now?
25:53You just want to finish the talk? Pass out. Pass out. Pass out. But back to what I was saying, the camera can't see, but we're like playing footsie right now.
26:04We like low PR. I'm like, um, I, so Ashley Park was supposed to be in it. Yeah. She, or she had another commitment. Yeah. And so I got the call and I was like, I know that a lot of people are going to say that this is a stunt cast. And like, like I know that people are going to say I don't deserve to be here. So I've been trying really hard to prove myself and put the time in and the work in because I know that I'm, that this was a luck. Like I feel very lucky to have been able to do this. Yeah. So that's what's been going through my head in terms of you didn't ask that question. No, but I appreciate it.
26:40No, I'm a cancer, so I empathize. And even for me, like you asked that question about the book or even stepping on the set for like Jordan Peele movie, you're like, do I deserve to be here? You know, but I think success is when luck meets hard work. And I think you put in the work to be there. And so if anybody has anything to say. Same for you. Fuck him two times. Oh! I loved that. Wait, so have you met Jordan Peele? Yeah. Okay. He went to my high school. Really? And he, at the time, was starring in Key and Peele. Mm-hmm. And he hadn't done Get Out yet or anything. And he was so awesome. Yeah.
27:25He's such a cool guy. You know he's mixed, too. Is he really? Yeah. Yeah. Did you guys talk about that? Yeah, we talked about it. I think that was a big part of him and the movie and the casting, you know, and he really, you know, championed me to get this, to get the role and you know, coming from an Atlanta episode, that that's a lot, that's not enough, enough for a studio to be like, yeah, we're going to put you as the lead of the movie. So now what you were saying earlier is like, I had to prove myself every day on that set. So it was like, I went like 10 X of, you know, I have to commit myself and the character in the movie was kind of like my experience in real life where like I get this one opportunity to tell this story on a studio level where it's coming out theatrically.
28:18Did you play football? I played football-ish. Like I played a different position than quarterback. But then you played soccer, right? I grew up playing soccer. You grew up playing soccer and then played football. Then played football out of spite. I'm here today because of spite because, you know, like, so it's all like this, you know, this cycle of spite. You know, you get cheated on and, you know, then you do this. You know, I'll watch this. I'm going to be the best soccer player ever. And then I burned out and got cut my senior year of high school. But I played high school soccer and then club soccer.
28:51High school soccer doesn't really matter. It's the club where we were like top. I know. Yes, because I was a volleyball kid. So I remember the high school volleyball didn't matter, but the club volleyball mattered. Yeah, but I was in varsity soccer in seventh grade. Why'd you get cut? I got cut, you know. Now I don't know. I'm still hurt by it, by the way. Were you not good or did something happen? No, it was like you get burned out. You go through like the puberty and you shoot to a different height and you're just like, I don't care. What was puberty like for you? Puberty was like, I went from probably your height to like 6 '12".
29:28Uh, and that was like, I was lanky. I didn't know how to use my body and it was like very fast and late. It was a late bloomer. So it was like, what? Yeah. Puberty sex. I don't like remember going through puberty. Yeah. No one does. I like, don't remember it. I don't remember my voice dropping. I don't think my voice ever like cracked. Yeah. I don't remember. Yeah. I don't remember. Like things are different. Do you remember when things dropped? Like my balls? Yeah. No, I actually don't. Is that a thing? Balls dropping? Yeah. Yeah, yeah. So, like, your balls are, like, up? They're, like, on the side.
30:04Like, yeah. And then when they, like, when you go to puberty. I'm so scared of my own balls. In a sense, not that something's wrong with them, but, like, I'm always scared to, like, get kicked or sit on them weird. Oh, oh. Do you know what I mean? That was a flex. He said just sit on them. No, I just. Weird flex, but okay. No, I'm not saying. I hate when I go to the bathroom and my dick touches the water. No, I'm not saying I have big balls. I'm just saying it's one of those irrational fears that I have. They bug balls, bug me out. They're just organs. They're like organs, like sitting, hanging.
30:49They really bug me out. It needs a skincare routine, it feels like. Does it? oh my god and then like can i just like we can cut this because this is gonna put like shaving your balls like when you when you cut your balls and you're bleeding out of your ball that's the worst oh my god i feel like i just cut my neck open yes like you know what i mean yeah yeah i'd rather eat a jean jacket than cut my balls like that i'd rather eat a jean jacket then cut my own balls okay no i do waxes are important i wax yeah you wax it's like do you wax i haven't done in a while but i am a pro waxer i where do you go don't say it no i'm not gonna say european european wax center i like moved from florida or atlanta and i had like you you have to build a relationship with your waxer your waxer and i remember they tried to like send somebody out and I was like no we can't have you been to a European wax center?
31:53absolutely do you think they're run well?
32:00give me an honest answer from my experience it could be better what could be better about it? I can tell you why are there two receptionists for one waxer? money laundering That's what I said. Why are there two receptionists for one waxer? You're going to spark an investigation. Let's think about it for a second, right? There's two receptionists. Yeah. One waxer. Yeah, that's where your money's going. Why would two people be checking in? If you're like, oh, can you help this customer? Oh, can you help this customer? There's only one waxer back there. Both customers are going to the same waxer.
32:43So wouldn't it make sense to have two waxers and one receptionist? it does not make sense. Like it's actually makes me mad too. And then like when I was late once, I was like, Hey, I'm running a few minutes behind. They're like, if you are nine minutes late, you're done. Nine. And I, and I was like, even if I'm 10, they said nine is the cutoff. And then I got it. We looked at each other like, what's up? What's up? And like, you're like this, what's up? And then my waxer was great, but now I feel uncomfortable to go back because I am in a huge beef with them yeah yeah i'm telling you that relationship between wax and waxer and waxy no that my waxer is lovely shout out her forget your name but you were amazing yeah my waxer she used to make fun of me why i don't know you just kind of need to be made fun of like uh you know when you're in that vulnerable position like haha you're hairy yeah she was like i was probably one of the most hairy ones that she she was like it's like pulling like a forest out um not anymore i'm That was my first time getting waxed.
33:48Of your butthole? Yeah, everything, you know. Well, you got to if you're going to have. Yeah, it's good hygiene. When you go to the bathroom, you know. I think I'm an advocate for, you know, proper male hygiene. You know, I showered three times the other day just because I was seeing a man. Really? Three? Three. Wash my hair multiple times. Oh, my God. This episode of Therapist is brought to you by Booking.com. Booking dot. Yeah. Okay, you guys. not only is summer coming up, so is Coachella. 35:50I feel like when you go into these hotels, this sounds like first world. And, you know, you have those shower heads that are, like, just above you. And I just feel like they're not very inclusive for people who don't want to get their hair wet. Okay, so the hotel I'm staying at, you can decide if you want the one above or the one above. Really? Yeah. There's levels to this shit. Yeah. No, I get it. Because I have friends, you know, that like you just can't get your hair wet. But then sometimes you just, but even if you put on like a cap, like it still like pushes the hair. Yeah. Yeah. I think.
Read the full transcript
36:25I totally get that. I think they're not very inclusive. That's fucking annoying. Yeah. It's really annoying. How's the water pressure there? Water. Oh, oh my God. The water pressure. It could be better. It could be better. I agree. I'm like. I agree. Turn it all the way up. I'm very particular about that The water temperature is really great I like to like you know Scorch But also I need to ask about Having a tub in my room You know Wait we were so just like right there Without each other I was about to ask if you take baths Yes I'm a very Okay there's a big question here There's a right answer Okay do you just hop in the bath Or do you like bath shower Or shower bath or do you like what's the what's the problem i don't take baths i i don't like them oh what because i'm like i'm so hot i'm so hot yeah but that's the best part you like kind of like almost pass out no no no no no so if i ever do take a bath which is rare i hop in the bath and then i shower after bath so you you're in your own the soup you're in your own yes like soup and then you shower this the dirt off oh i've never heard you shower before the bath absolutely you gotta to get you gotta clean and then get in the bath and then you know the best is when there's the bath in the same room as the shower and it's like in the same oh it's like a wet bath so you just like turn on the shower bath hop out oh my god yeah yeah what else are you angry about today what am i angry about today oh man
37:58that's a great question hmm i can tell you what i'm angry about yeah what do you what do you my love handles oh my god i tell people this all the time i'm like they won't go away that's the stubborn fat i feel like i have to like do you think there is a procedure that we can just get it shaved off i think you can like there's like add cold like there's this this cold stuff you can like put press on i really really really want them gone they make me so no matter how like skinny i get they're always there they're always and i say something and nobody like hears me nobody validates me or my feelings i'm validating you right here right now this little pouch pouch they can't get a pouch i'm trying to become like a mid drift baddie you know um a what yeah so a mint mid drift baddie mid drift baddie yeah yeah oh like you want to wear a crop top well not a crop top but like you know for the coach show i wore a little mid drift and the movie him i had a little mid mid drift from my when i was working out but there's always this little pouch no matter yeah and sometimes it just doesn't go away well they'll tell you it's it's in the kitchen i just i don't want to hear that you know yeah yeah and it's they're like oh it's you diet and then this is the one i hate the most i'm like shut the fuck up it's like um they're like oh have you been getting enough sleep it's like fuck off like do you get enough sleep no how many hours Where did you sleep last night?
39:26We had to be up at like 6. I went to bed at like 3. Yeah. You know what? I need to stop. I need to stop complaining. I slept a good 8. Good 8? Are you like an 8? Like solid 8? Always. Forever. Really? What are you up late doing? Thinking about tomorrow? Are you watching it? Do you watch TV? What are you watching? What are you watching on television right now and what are you listening to? What am I listening to? What am I watching? I love just finished Traders. Me too. Which was like one of the. Rob was here yesterday. Yeah. Played a good game. He played a great game. Like kind of. Kind of like.
40:02Like psycho. You know. You're like. Could I do that? You know. And he went there. I would have done the same. Of course. I would have done the same. Of course. You know. It's all about that bag. You know who else loves traders? Madeline. Yeah. She put me on a trader. She loves traders more than anything. She put me on a traders. What else are you watching? What else? Industry. industry you love it the best show the best show on television the best show on television and i've that's i don't re-watch things and she re-watched it oh my god it is i miss harry so bad though i miss him but i but i haven't started have you are you all caught up i'm not all caught up for the the season finale so today my plan after this is to start season four of industry I'm so excited Who's your favorite person on Industry of all seasons Yas She is She gives me full body chills Yas is like ripping lines of coke Killing her dad Like Fucking people over left and right Oh my god she makes me sick A diva I love that My favorite obviously is Harper Mahala you know well she well she is she's a cutthroat yeah she's cutthroat when she fucks over is his what's his name in the show her boss uh um is it Eric Eric when she fucks over Eric oh at that retreat at that retreat in season three and she sits across from him like this I mean and if you know her in person have you ever met Mahalo in person I was too nervous to talk to her I was at the Burberry show in London I was so scared she is the nicest person the funniest tiktok the nicest one of the nicest people i've ever met it is so funny because in the show harper is like do you remember that scene in season one where harper fucks up and she's chewing on gum and then her tooth like falls out it's seriously one of the best shows on television i and by the way i've been an industry fan i cut you off no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no keep going i've been an industry fan since season one came out like I've been on the train since that show came out and no one was watching it.
42:16Me too. And I feel like it's still like slept on. No, no. It's known now, but like it's not. It's the gift that just keeps on giving. You know what it's going to have because it's next season, it's final season? It's going to have a succession moment. It's going to have a succession moment. And I love David Johnson. He was in season one and two. When did he leave? Yeah, he like left the firm and started working in politics in the show. Oh, yes. He's not in the show anymore. Yeah, he left. I forgot how he left. That show is fucking cool. Yeah, yeah. But also, I think industry, it's like, for me, to have a black woman at the helm of the show, and it's such a, you know, I feel like it should be critically acclaimed, but like an elite cinematic show, and to see her like grace that show with just such, you know, presence and performance, I think for me, that show is important.
43:09I think that's why I love industry even more. Right. especially in the finance world where it's like a it's a very toxic male dominated field and to see her journey and to see her outside of um you know industry i think i love her personality from what i've perceived and uh you know and i i'm big on like personality and just not taking things too serious and i feel like um she's the epitome of that and you know i'd love to do something with I love her. Yeah. Her and David. She's so excellent in everything she does. Have you seen Leave the World Behind? I have not seen Leave the World Behind. She's in Leave the World Behind.
43:44She's amazing in it. She's in Bodies, Bodies, Bodies. Yeah. She's incredible in that. I love Bodies. She's booked and fucking busy. Booked and busy. Because she, I mean, she can act. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. She can act. And her, just like her relationship with Yaz in the show is so fun because they're also friends in real life. Yeah. So it's so fun to see. yeah i i was too nervous i should have said something at the show you should have she's the nicest she's so kind i was like one person from her and i was just like and those and that's the anxiety and like who am i to be talking to them or you're you yeah but that's what we were talking about earlier you're like uh i think olivia dean was in the room you're like oh i love olivia dean oh well who are you listening to olivia dean you know um i think Olivia Deans, just, man, watching her win Grammy, the Grammy for Best New Artist, I think she goes platinum in this household, you know.
44:41And she has a song for any type of feeling. Oh, she really does. Yeah, like, Slowly is a great song, you know. Obviously, you have, like, The Man I Need. It's just. You know when you hear a song for the first time and you're like, that's an instant classic? Yeah. When I heard Man I Need for the first time, I was like, that's a classic. Yeah, and she's so chic, meeting her. So chic. I spoke to her. I was like. Was she nice? She was so nice. She was like about to grab water. And I knew it was sparkling water. And I was like, no, no, no, no. It's sparkling water. And she was like, oh, thank you so much.
45:13So I basically saved her life. And the reason why you're going to get more Olivia Dean is because of me. Yeah. So who else are you listening to right now? Who else? I'm a big, you probably never heard of this artist before. But Rod Wave. He's a Florida singer. Why would I have not have heard of Rod Wave? Really? He's huge. Yeah, he's huge. Well, he's huge. Rod Wave is huge. And he's a big Olivia Dean fan, too. He sings, give me a few. Tombstone. He sings that song with Sadie Jean on it, too. Yes. Why can I? No. He has great gasp. He has thug motivation. He sells out like arenas. But he really rides for Olivia Dean.
45:58Really? I went up to Olivia Dean. I was like, you're my favorite artist's favorite artist. What are you doing now? What am I doing? You know, like that. What are you doing now? And I met Sadie briefly, too. She is so sweet. She's the nicest. Yeah. I think. Didn't that song go viral on TikTok? And then he sampled it. But he has a few other ones that I like. And he brings people on tour. Yeah, he brought her on tour. Yeah, yeah. He brings her on tour when he had no business doing that. Have you heard the, have you seen the videos? Have you seen him live? No, I don't. When I realized how big he was Is when he was performing And the audience was screaming The lyrics back What songs did he sing?
46:38Turks and K-25 Street Runner I love that song I love that song That was my COVID song That came out during COVID I think What's the one where he lost his Uncle It starts with the L I can't think of it right now But it was on the 25 The same album 25 was on He's great So Olivia Dean Roderys, Marcel Green Shout out I haven't been to his concert Either one Who else? Olivia Dean, Rod Williams Can I look at my Please, I would love you to look at Wait, are we Spotify or Apple? We're Spotify in this household What are you? Spotify Yeah Come on Are you like Do you love LA or New York? LA I know How are you holding up Being in New York so long?
47:24I'm from here Oh Yeah So it's like a lot of memories coming back Yeah Sienna Rose Have you heard of Sienna Rose? Golden Skin She's just in the same type of vibe So you like like slow Yeah So Sienna Rose We have Dijon The new Dijon album is Yeah Have you heard his song with Bon Iver? No which one is that? Day One Day One So it's maybe my song of the year besides this other Bonny Baird song? Bro, I just started, like, I, when albums come out, I, like, don't give them the attention because I'm like, oh, I gotta give it some time, let it die down, don't let people affect me. But, you know, the new Justin Bieber, the swag album, I've just started, like, really consuming that.
48:16Yeah, fire. And that's really important to me. It's like journals 2.0. Exactly. It's very much, it's giving, like, this is the music Justin wanted to make, is the vibe. Yeah. What's an album that's changed your life? What's the name of this Last Rod Wave album? So he's your number one artist. He's my number one played. Yeah. Last Lap was the song Last Lap, too. And you say, give it a listen. Yeah, because I think Last Lap, the song, I remember where I was. I was leaving South Africa, and I was in the airport, and the song dropped. I remember there was clips on Twitter, and I was just, like, trying to, like, inject it into my veins.
48:54and I think I like sad music. I love sad music. I love a sad song. And, you know, can I say it again? Nope. Favorite sad song. My favorite sad song and we'll get into that one. Last lap, because, you know, his uncle, he lost his uncle and I lost a brother, an older brother. Oh, you did. I'm so sorry. Just don't let it happen again. What'd you say? What did you just say? He said, sorry. I said, don't let it happen again. I never know what to say when people say sorry. Like, it's just, all right, moving on.
49:33Oh,
49:39no. I get it. Everything's fine. I got it. Everything's fine. I don't, but like, I understand what you're saying. I am sorry, though. Yeah, no, I appreciate that. And yeah, I think things that reword how you feel are put into a song. And I think with Riot Wave, a lot of his songs, they aren't all just lyrics. It's like the feeling that it puts into your body. That is the same way I feel about Bon Iver. Yes. It's like he has, and honestly Taylor Swift. Is that how you say his name? Yeah, Bon Iver. Okay. And like they're Like it's like It's It's like the production Like The production like Makes you feel Like it makes you think of a place Yeah It makes you think of a feeling Yeah Like when I listen to like There's this Taylor Swift song Called Tis the Damn Season And like The Are you Swifting?
50:32Biggest The strum of the guitar chord Like makes me think about When I lived in the suburbs When I was a kid Yeah Like it makes me Like I feel like I'm there Like Yeah That's real good music It's a half time I don't even remember the lyrics. I just remember like. The feeling. Yeah. Yeah. And like about it's the journey of success and like I think Tombstone or Thug Motivation. Like there's a point in the song where I'm like I can't. Oh I've heard Thug Motivation. Yeah. That's. That's a fire song. I'm clipping that. And then. Really? Going to photo. I'm going to Instagram dump. Jake has heard Thug Motivation.
51:05You posted something recently. You're like I do not want to admit how much time I put into this photo dump. And. Do you? I mean, I put my back, my balls, my like, I like nothing matters. I was literally like curating it. Like I was. Can I tell you, I was at this brunch and then my friend's like, oh yeah, Rihanna's about to come. I'm like, but I'm mid photo dump. Like I'm locked in like three French 75s deep. And I'm like, you know how it is. And you pick the, do you pick the song too? You pick the song too. 51:42But people are like, I know. It can't be controversial. I know he listened to that. Yeah. It has to be like, oh, you know ball. Yeah. But it's like you've asked like three friends like, what's a good song for this? And they're like saying the most niche song ever. What's the photo dump you're most proud of ever? Most proud of? Oh, my God. This is so fun. I need my phone. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I need my phone. I want to find my most proud photo dump ever. Oh, I'm so excited. because I think I know mine. I feel like Japan was great. Japan was great. Okay. Photo dumps are very, very important because they tell us about your personality.
52:18But I was at this brunch with Rihanna and I'm like, hey, so nice to meet you. I'm like stuck in between like photo dump. But she was the sweetest. Okay, we'll trade phones because I need to see the photo dump you're most proud of. Okay, ready? Bad baby and it's effortless. Look at this one. The cigarette at the bar. A ciggy, a drunk ciggy. You chose that song? Yeah. No, Instagram did, but I went with it. Oh, come on. Come on. Come on. In the grocery store? That was iconic. Yeah, that was iconic. Iconic. You want to see mine now? This past weekend, I was visiting him at his college and found a girl as his pin text. Wait, found a girl what? She found a girl as his pin text, which includes save shirtless pictures of him and their chat. Via LinkedIn and my own skills, I found out that she was from another state and they met at a career fair at his college. literally what do i do so he's run run he's the devil ah that's tough it's giving um have you seen that movie with logan lerman and molly gordon where he's like not exclusive and then she ties to the bed yeah that's given that it's so now is it like advice do i yeah what's your advice my advice he's a narcissist uh and i think damn why do you think he's a narcissist because she hasn't clarified whether that they've had an exclusivity conversation.
57:16Yeah, okay. So, DTR. Okay. DTR. You were big on that? You were big on DTR, but I'm not, like, careless. You know what I'm saying? Like, how soon? You first. DTR, if you don't know what DTR is, define the relationship. But he's, man, that's tough. How soon? yeah i was gonna say how soon do you think it's okay to be like what are we doing here yeah i think it's uh if you're intimate like sexually with a person and i think after that happens after you fuck or after right before that's not her man uh i think it's very disrespectful that he's like trying to play you know have his cake and eat it too or cate and eat it too i don't know what it's yeah have this cake and eat it too but like okay for my own personal research purposes right now yeah if i've been on dates sexually intimate not now right i i don't think i can now right now you can do whatever you want what do you think are you okay with them seeing other people yeah i mean yeah right now of course of course i'm i think when you get to that point of like okay i would not like them with so with other people yeah yeah yeah okay love that yeah love that but it sounds like whoever's asking that whoever wrote that is not not cool with that and i think uh communication and i think that relationship sounds like it's kind of over because it's long distance too right and now he probably if she's pinned conversationally yeah an i message I only have like three people Who are your pins?
58:57My pin is my mom And my publicist Really? I mean I pin her too, she's a vibe Yeah she's a vibe I'm telling you, I love her so much I want to hang out with you I feel like we talk mad shit Okay ready? Yeah My college boyfriend and I broke up a few months ago And then this funny and helpful drug dealer came in my life he's like obsessed with me but all i wanted was a rebound low-key love what he provides lol but i don't want to get in too deep like what if the fbi comes in yeah my door but dot dot dot he's so good in bed as drug dealers are not that i've ever had sex with one but listen you can't you can't have you seen breaking bad you can't but think about it free drugs free free good sex but drug dealers have you know i get a little toxic i you know i'm not gonna be like that like guys like run away i'm you know i have a little edge you know have your fun live your life go what's the most toxic thing you've ever done toxic thing i've ever done that's it that's
1:00:13I'm trying to think what I can can say I've come a long way I've kind of come a long way I've been humbled though really yeah LA humbled me a lot you know yeah so it balanced out the the dirt I've done when I was in like college and you know it's just like it was college we're having fun we're all broke and corny and stuff like that so Yeah. I get it. Yeah. So yeah, I would maybe just have some fun, but like that's not your boyfriend. That's not your husband. Yeah, don't catch feelings. Get up out of there. Like try to keep it like brief because if there's an FBI raid. It's not. I mean, it wouldn't land on you.
1:00:52I'm telling you like legality wise, like you're not the one dealing the drugs. But yeah, that might be traumatic for you. I was waiting in line to walk across the stage at my college graduation ceremony. As I went to fix my cap, my phone was unlocked in my hand. and I accidentally forwarded my dad a dick pic that my situationship sent me reading, happy graduation day. Help, he wouldn't look at me for the rest of the day. I'm going to make you feel better really quickly. One time, do you know what Grindr is? Yes. I downloaded Grindr Premium and it sent my dad an email and he texted me saying, I don't have a problem with it, but you cannot charge Grindr to my credit card.
1:01:27Grindr I thought was a dating app, so did he assume that... You thought Grindr was a dating app? I mean, I know people that have met the loves of their lives on Grindr, but Grindr is... I had a roommate in my freshman year of college. We had an apartment, and it was a random roommate. And I think he was like a Grindr all-star. Really? Yeah. Why? Did you hear bump in the middle of the night? It was like he had motion. He was like the monarch of motion. Really? Every night, it was somebody new. He'd walk around the house Pierce nipples Oh wow Blast the music up Just blast it Oh he was a grinder Yeah Yeah yeah Yeah I would say You just need to ignore it And pretend that it never happened Yeah Also Literally pretend that it never happened Also you can Like Why is somebody sending you A dick pic Saying happy graduation day That's the problem Really I'd say thank you so much Let's get involved later I just Couldn't do that Why is that Why do I like that I've I've dreamt.
1:02:28Well, I guess like, you know, I see the vision for you. So what I see the vision. If you like it, you like it. I'm not going to yuck your yum. Thank you. I appreciate that. I mean, I wouldn't be like, this is like the love of my life. I'd be like, oh, that's cheeky and cute. Like, let's fuck later after I graduate. I just. My friend broke my digital camera one day after I got it. I was generous and asked her if she could maybe pay 50 % of it, which works to be 40 euros. And all she has to say is, I have no money. Yet, the same night when we go to the club, she's always buying herself and others drinks and constantly going out and spending like help.
1:03:04That is a bad friend. That is a bad friend. Broke bad friend. Broke behavior. It's just like, come on. She's not prioritizing you. That's not a friend. That's not a friend. Especially 40 euros. Yeah. What is that, like 60 USD? Yeah, she's like, and she's buying drinks at the club, which will equate to that. One drink is like a million, quadrillion, billion dollars. I, as a 24-year-old adult, have officially shit my pants on the 405 on the way to a job interview. My life is a 2000s comedy movie. I still went into the interview, but I was so late because I had to pull over, go into a store, and change clothes while getting dirty looks the whole time that they didn't even give me the light of day.
1:03:39This is going to be a huge hit to my self-esteem, so what do I do to ignore that? Everybody shits their pants sometimes. You just can't think about it. You can't. You got to move on with your day. You got to move on. It's your body. It's okay. It happens. It's your body. And then nobody has to know. I think they're perceiving people are giving them dirty looks, but it's like, Oh, it's just going to the bathroom. And right. Um, I prescribed the movie bridesmaids to make yourself feel better. Yeah. Yeah. I definitely agree with that. Oh, okay. Well, those are it for the tell me what's wrong. God.
