1:24February. We made it. February. How do you feel? the first month of the year is over. I feel like there was like all this pressure around January. No pre-intro to today's episode? Nope. I was very excited for one. What did you want to talk about? Your workout before this? Where'd you go? Well, same place I always go, Studio 3. He's crushing a midday workout. So Harrison's new thing is it used to be wake up, go work out. Now he wakes up, he goes, he's productive, he works all morning. He gets a midday workout in which is like an energy jolt and then he he does the rest of the day twice a week three times a week i'm doing monday wednesday friday mornings tuesday thursdays are uh our midday workouts oh i didn't realize could you write that down somewhere because i'm i'm really happy to have your location because i'm always trying to find you um yeah i i love the midday workout i mean if you can make work for for the work schedule it's amazing because like it's a great break and then you come back for the afternoon fully energized so advocate of it yesterday harrison made my whole day at the end of the day i said to him do you know the best part of my day and he said what and i said it was when i looked up and you had come to surprise me at the office because i was here we have a new office downstairs okay and i was putting together the chairs and i looked up and harrison had come to surprise me there and it really made me so happy yeah I had no idea where you were as well and I saw um a little location check yeah I was working so I'm like where is she and I was here I saw you at the office and made my way over I'm like really I'm really into the location sharing now I would also like to talk about our coffee shop and this is a general coffee shop chat but here's the thing that I want to say.
3:15We used to have one coffee shop we could walk to and it, it was called Swedish show. And it was so, the line there was so long. Okay. Now we've had a new one, a rival coffee shop opened up in the area. Now what they do with this new coffee shop, I think is so genius. Have you noticed? Well, we talked about this coffee shop last week. I know, but their employees, I went again today. The girl's like, Hey, Americano, like which sounds she's talking about i get a specialized americano drink i get the large americano but i keep the same amount of shots and then i do half milk half water and like they take the time to know you and talk to you they're they're they're definitely they it's a it's a talking it's a talking culture they're engaging with you and here's the thing we're not wasting any time because so what I, today I was like, this is so smart because they're taught, they're getting to know you.
4:12They're asking me about my pregnancy every time. All three of them know how far along I am and they know it's a boy and they know I'm going to change my nail color soon. And they know I love the cookies, but here's what's so smart about it because you spend a little extra time and then the guy making the coffee, he's already got it done by the time you go over there. so actually you get out faster and you have more interpersonal communication and i think as a society like slowing down some and like stopping and chatting very the opposite of new york it's i love it like i look forward to my chat with them now jules what were you gonna say that they always comment on my nail color at that coffee shop at the one by me they're big commenter on my nail color every single time i go there so i mean we i have not i have not talked about the color They're putting the community back in coffee culture.
5:01But they clearly get some training on it if they're asking me about my nails. Starbucks made coffee transactional. And this coffee shop, we'll call it Desnudo because that's its name. They're putting community back in coffee. Now, I don't want – Swedish Shell, to me, is still undefeated. No, no, they're amazing. They're amazing. Especially when you combine the food. Look, I think Swedish Hill is the best coffee shop I've ever been to. I'll give it the best in North America. Okay. Fair. And I also think they're great with community. I think they're great with community. I think they have more customers, so it takes longer for them to get to know you.
5:42But now I love the Swedish Hill people. I've just found it to be a very difficult decision. In fact, on Sunday, I went Desnundo, Swedish Hill, back to Desnundo. I could not decide. It's Swedish Hill. Here's the problem. because the renovations are going on does noodle has a better inside because right because swedish but swedish hill once they're there they open up the new store is going to be exponentially better i don't know i'm just i'm really on desnudo right now and here's the other thing i realized while i was there while i was there i got team swedish i got a cookie i've been getting a cookie every time I go.
6:18And when I was getting it, I realized habits are formed, but the healthier habits are harder to form as opposed to the bad habits. So today I got a cookie again. And the girl was like, it was a new girl and said, have you ever had one of these cookies? And I said, yeah, every day, every day for the past week, I have gotten this cookie and it is so dang good. And I think that I've become in the morning when I get my coffee, I now crave this cookie. And I realized the same thing happens when I eat really healthy, I don't crave bad food. Now this, none of this applies when you're pregnant, but cause like I can get the cookie every meal if I want.
6:55But for you, don't you notice the healthier you eat, the less you drink, the more you crave that kind of lifestyle. Totally. And the moment you spend two days on doing it, like you go for pizza, you drink a lot, like then you undo it. And my trainer, when I lived out in Orange County, his name was Webb Travis, he always told me you can spend two months building a lot of muscle and it'll take you one week to undo it. That ratio lines up with me. He's like the good habits, harder to form, but you can undo it so easily. Like I'm like a month into, you know, elevating my, my healthiness. And it feels like I'm just starting to break into root into like actual routine in progress but i what i'm noticing too with you is like the layer below like this morning you were organizing your bedside table also what did you do the laundry bin i have no idea what you're talking about we have a lot we have a laundry basket that is um it's not leather but it's almost leather and it only works if you put the clothes in it and today i realized you squashed it down all the way you started putting your clothes on top of it do you want to honestly know what i did there what so um i went i did a little elwood a little elwood run those are sweatsuits and the thing about the elwoods i love them they're the most comfortable thing what does it have to do with the laundry bin i'm gonna get there i like i love now like it's winter i'm putting on these sweatsuits every day it's it like i'm feeling it bubs loves to wipe her hands on my Elwood.
8:39Yeah, she does. She loves to. And so, you know, within the first 30 minutes to an hour of me putting on these new fresh sweatsuits, like I get banana on them. Her big thing right now is she loves to ask for banana in the morning. First thing she goes, she stands by it. She hits the thing and I fall for it every time I give her half the banana goes into her hand. She refuses to it she just wants to carry the banana around it's play-doh and and then she loves to wipe it on me so i'm just torn because the sweatsuits aren't like they're clean but they have banana on them so it's like like do they go in the wash i feel guilty because you know like every time you wash like something colors start to fade like and so it's just what does it have to do with not getting the clothes in the laundry because i'm like i'm like oh i don't want to wash this but i have to wash it.
9:33I see. So you're, it's, you're kind of halfway putting it in there. You don't want to commit to putting it in there. So you're just putting it on top. It's the first time I've ever seen you do it. You are good at getting clothes in. And today I was like, what happened? Yeah. I'm like, it's cause I'm torn. Like, do I wash it? Do I not wash it? I'm just going to wash it. She's going to put more banana on it. Like, should I just be wearing the sweatsuit with the banana on it? The only reason why this one is clean right now is cause I put it on after, after the gym okay now the moment she gets banana on you get get it really really wet and hold it on there so it absorbs the wetness it's a losing effort it's not like there's one thing on it it's like the whole she gets a lot of it so i'm just kind of thinking like should i just embrace that because i don't want to you don't need to you don't need to wash your sweatsuit every time you wear it right correct especially not sweatsuits i mean those but i think elwood looks better the more you wash it that's my hot take i don't agree at all i think they look worse oh i think it looks like alex good that sweatshirt looks so good and i'm sure you've washed that 10 times i've a lot more than that i'm a cereal washer yeah so how could you say that not to bring up i think they look best crisp like i would rather this be unwashed elwood yeah no but i think there's something just nice about putting on a new sweatsuit that's why i did the haul yeah not an ad by the way although i did i was thinking if we did you know at some point like an Elwood Bubz collab where we did Bubz tracksuits.
10:58I think I said that before. Did you? If they made little tracksuits. They make child size. They don't make baby size. Yeah, like Bubber ones. I will fall over and die if there's a hoodie Bubber size. Yeah. You guys, lately it has been all about food in our household, especially with Tate because she now knows how to eat. Her taste buds are fully developed, so she's like so opinionated on what she eats. and that is where Little Spoon is so incredibly helpful because they have something for every meal of the day, including snacks. They have these little fruit rippers that are like little straws, but they're bendy and you can just peel off the fruit.
11:34There's so, I think kids love things that are fun for them to eat. They also have pre-made little snacks that you can take to go. They've got grapes in them, they've got crackers in them, they've got all this healthy, good food. And if your kid is just starting to eat, one of my favorite things that Little Spoon does is they cut up all the foods into bite sizes so you don't have to. Because when those kids get hungry, it is like 9-1-1 we have to feed them. And when someone's already done the work for you, it is truly invaluable. Their recipes are made with pediatricians packed with hidden veggies, which is important because I was one of those parents.
12:09I was like, I'll get her to eat veggies. No, truly, it's very hard. You have to actually hide them. And somehow my kids will still ask for seconds, which is the best. Tate and Winnie both. Everything made with real ingredients, no artificial flavors, sweeteners, or dyes. It's a rare combo of convenient and healthy, which I know we all care about. Little Spoon is the mealtime hack parents can't stop talking about. Try their no-prep, nutrition-packed meals and snacks for babies, toddlers, and big kids. 12:46that's l-i-t-t-l-e-s-p-o-o-n dot com slash two parents and don't forget to use our show's code for 30 % off your first order let me do something right now what are you gonna do take it to the next level oh do you have a show okay so if you're not watching on YouTube I'll narrate for you we've taken oh he's taken off his shirt are you familiar with Elwood Vintage's? Elwood Vintage so Carn City Girls basketball Carn City Girls hoops high school champion. Let me read the back. Let me read the back. What is it? Defense wins. 18 and 0. Your microphone is nowhere near now. 18 and 0. Show me the back.
13:23It says. Defense wins. Offense wins games. Defense wins championships. Yeah, great shirt. So the other day we were at Storytime and Harrison had Tate so proudly on. So our local library, actually it's a bookstore, does Storytime every Saturday. But this last Saturday specifically had a Storytime that was a music Storytime. so instead of reading the books, they were violinning the books. It was like an orchestra. It was actually quite cool, and it was packed, so packed that Harrison and Tate had to stand in the back, and he had her on his shoulders, and I looked over, and I just saw a nice little price tag sticking out the back of Harrison's shirt.
14:00And I thought, oh, no. So I went over, and I just ripped it off, and it was this outfit right here. I love the shirt. You're supporting women's sports. Thank you for that. Of course. but where we got that's why the clothes aren't aren't in aren't in the laundry room because I just I wasn't sure if they justified the wash or not. So we're saying that the sweatsuits look better washed. Do they look better with some stains on them is the question. That's actually the question. Am I allowed to be wearing sweatsuits with stains on them? You taught me something very important my first trip to LA to visit you and I had that beautiful white Alice and Olivia suit, but it had a little stain on it.
14:43And I was like, I can't wear this. It has a stain on it. And you looked at me and you said, I am pro stains. And ever since then, like I will wear clothes with just full blown stains on them. These are big, like rubber stains are big stains. I think embrace it. It just says dad. Like it's also like a grungy sweatsuit. Like it is what you make it. Okay. So we're, okay. So then we'll take them out of the laundry machine. Well, no, I mean, you can wash them once. I'm just saying like, let me look at them. Can I look at them? Yeah. Well, obviously I wear them through the day, just so we're very clear.
15:13I wear them through the day. The problem is I put it to wash and it just didn't feel right. It felt like I had one more wear in it before I had to wash it is the point. Yes, I totally understand that. And now I get what's going on with the laundry hamper. Another thing I want to discuss is Harrison has a new favorite household item, which my mother gave us probably two years ago and it went unused and then recently it has come out of retirement we got the batteries for it and we've been really using this thing what is it oh the label printer we've been labeling so harrison has labeled all of his outfit areas and he got this new chested wardrobe holder okay and he's and your t-shirts are they're dialed this is like parent nesting.
16:00They're so organized it says Western fun gear. No, no, no. So there's three t-shirt drawers. There's light t-shirts, plain light t-shirts, plain dark t-shirts, graphic t-shirts. So Jules, where would this go? Graphic t-shirts. Perfect. Then there's two rows of button-ups. There's short sleeves and there's long sleeves. So each short and long has a Western section. Yeah. Because I'm big into Western right now. So Western shorts, Western longs. Then we have basic shorts, basic longs for shirts. And then we have fun short sleeve shirts and fun long sleeve shirts. And everything. That aren't Western.
16:40Those are not Western. Because if it does have a Western flair, it obviously goes in the Western pile. But what I found with you is this has kept our room really clean. I know where everything goes. And you're having fun getting dressed because you can see everything. It's like I am really enjoying this. As somebody who is not really taking any pride in getting dressed right now, I'm loving watching you. Thank you. Yeah, it's all this organization hack before the baby comes. Sweatsuit drawer? Yeah, you've got a sweatsuit drawer. Now, I think Bubber gets this from you. I'm not sure if kids have the ability to not like being dirty, But what I've caught with her recently is if she like we had chicken wings the other day that I made from home and she had them all over her hands.
17:25And I noticed it with the banana, too. If Bubber and she's 16 months old, so I'm not sure if this is possible. If she gets food on her hands or food on her face, I think she wants us to wipe it clean. She does. And to take it a step further, like crazy. And obviously it's different because she's a baby. but um the other day she like was was walking down the sidewalk and then scooted off of it and she got a bunch of leaves on her shin and she refused to walk until i took the leaves off she was just like yeah she's just looking at us like are you gonna go and take the leaves and then right when the leaves were taken off she just scampered back off i've also noticed the way she eats if she's got let's say blueberry raspberries and chicken she eats all the blueberries she tries the raspberries if she's not in a raspberry mood she'll leave them there and she'll go to the chicken but and she has to have her agua in the cup holder like i think we might have a very type a child on our hands which i think she gets from you i don't know about that but i think they're born so i see both sides of it but i always had a friend i had some friends in college who because you live with people in college they were super type a they were super clean just naturally clean and then some of us were just super sloppy and I always wondered did their mom like my mom was very organized but I didn't really get that trait so I always wondered is that is that nature or is that nurture and with bubs I'm thinking I think she was just born a bit like I don't want to be messy we'll see I actually like I genuinely don't have a read on this because like I see both sides like she does things like that leaves thing which I'm just like whoa like that's a very unique thing to do is as a toddler or feels like it and then there's other stuff that she does which like just completely counteracts that so i don't know of you i wonder if she's gonna have like you know maybe when she's 10 she has a really organized room she doesn't like dirt on her shoes maybe she makes her bed every day are we gonna have that baby i don't know i like i don't think she's gonna be like a make your bed every day kid i i'm just i'm just saying i'm seeing some early signs of like you don't like to be dirty and you you keep it orderly have you noticed the agua has to go in the cup holder yeah my mom pointed that out for the first time it's crazy to me yeah it's really quite cute are you guys gonna make your kids make their beds yes because i think yes one hack i i look why why no because because it's the best way to start your day but for you that maybe not for them like to me to me that's the perfect example of a decision that that a child should make then they can pay rent if they're gonna live in if they're gonna live in the house we gotta have beds made i the best way to start your day look at that look at that that's a live vicar of the week okay all right i want to know i want to know people i want to know parents at home i want to know your experience with this and i want you to comment and why you comment, please subscribe.
20:23Also, just why you're there because you're already thumbing around in the interface of the podcast. So just hit a little subscribe while you're at it. But please, I said please. Did you? I did. I don't know. Then I'm very sorry. Then I'm very sorry. I definitely know that I did. I'm so happy we're filming because we have it on record. I'm very sorry. But I would like to know if you have kids that are older, do you make them make their bed or not? And why do you make them make their bed? Here's why I think people should make their bed. It's the best way to start your day. Right out of the gates, you accomplished one thing and when you accomplish something it releases neurons and like you you start to crave that accomplishment and so here's my take my take is that you we should explain that dynamic to the children and say hey mom has thinks mom has thinks it's the best way to start her day by making her bed here are the reasons why why don't you try it for a week and see how you feel we'll have them try for a week and if they love it then great and they can keep doing it and if not who cares we have so many battles to fight in life whether or not they're making their bed like i i think that responsibility should that choice should absolutely fall on them well i'm not going to spend much time arguing with them about them to make their bed because that would be a bad use of my time now i am going to suggest that they make their bed okay by just saying rent is$100 a month here if you don't.
21:46I'm just kidding. I'm kidding. I don't have any desire for our kids to pay rent. No, listen, here's what I've also noticed of me as a mom. Like, the reason I'm happy, you know, like working and other things is I don't have a lot of time to harp on those little things. So I'm just going to kind of be like, make your bed. I highly suggest it. Here's why. Your room looks better if it's made. You know where everything's at. It's just like, it's a good life lesson. I'm like, making your bed to me is like a life lesson. Let's get that bed made. For you. For me. And so who's going to be washing their sheets?
22:23Or do we don't wash them? Harrison, do you understand how much of a large picture the can of worms are opening up here? Okay. If they have a cell phone, let's say they're 16 years old and they have a cell phone, can they sit in bed and scroll in their leisurely life? Can they sit there and scroll Instagram and not make their bed? We're going to have a family cell phone box and no one in the house is going to have their cell phone in the room. No one. Okay. Then they don't have to make their bed. Then fine. I think we're going to have a house rule, which is no phones in the bedrooms. Love it. And that rule is something that I follow and the whole family follows.
23:07We lead from the front. Lead from the front. I'm going to get two phones. I'm just kidding. I'm going to put one in the box. Everyone's like, mom's phone's in the box. No, the reason I won't do that is because if I was ever on my phone and they thought my phone was in the box and they caught me, would they ever trust me again? No. And I would love to put my phone in the phone box. I ordered. I thought I did. Did you order the phone? Where's the phone box? Just get a box from the kitchen. No, no. We're going to do that after. And write phone box on it. I'm going to set a reminder. Okay. Okay, that's one reason you can check your phone.
23:42He's setting a reminder to order the phone box. I thought I did. It must be in my cart. But I just, I don't know if we've ever said this. Like we're not getting, our kids aren't, I hope that we can stick to this, okay? This podcast is sponsored by DoorDash, which as you guys know is our go-to solution as a mom and dad whenever life throws us curve balls or you just need more me time to get things done. They handle your to-do list, whether it's dinners or diapers, and then you can get it delivered to you fast. I shared a video a couple of months ago. Well, now it's a long time ago of what all I ordered when Tate was one month old and it wasn't anything that I expected.
24:19Baby-friendly bug spray, liquid ibuprofen and diapers all made the list and you need them instantly, but you don't have time to leave the house. And that is where DoorDash comes in to handy. Parenting can be chaotic, unpredictable and complicated. Delivery with DoorDash isn't. Get order delivered with DoorDash. I would love to know the age that parents are giving kids phones now because I think the pendulum is swinging back. I think it used to be five, ten years ago. It was cool to get your kid a phone when they were like five. Right. But now now I think we're understanding the harm of phones.
24:51And so people are saying, no, no, no. If we can push it a lot later. And I think the way you do it is you have to get together with all the kids from the class. Right. Like all of your kids, friends, parents and like, hey, let's all hold off till they're 14 or 15 and give them a phone. So my parents did with my best friend's parents. We got phones at the same age. Yeah, coordinate with the community. Yeah, we weren't really comparing. But I think I would imagine the age for phones is pushed back now, the argument being safety. But I think that the Apple Watch where you're able to call from solves that, is my take on this phone thing.
25:24Because having access, it's that tweet we saw the other day. It was like, by all means, wake up, open your phone, have the news overwhelm you, have what everybody else is doing overwhelm you, have all your text messages overwhelm you. and it's like that is a lot I thought about that this morning so I meditated instead of checking my phone very nice guess what we got today in the studio wi-fi no guess what we got with the wi-fi what a landline no way we have a phone number it's cheaper yeah we got we got two phone numbers let's prank call people that's what I was thinking but it's over there we can plug in a phone I was like should we have people call in to our new phone number I don't know so I have to maybe get us some landlines.
26:06Now is the time. I love a landline. We could do a call in. We should get those little tin can phones. 100 % we should get a tin can phone. Yep. Well we have two numbers. I'll send them to you guys. I know seriously please. Yeah. We can figure it out. Harrison has opened his coffee. It's a great noise. Is that your first coffee of the day? I held off my coffee today until well before recording so like one o 'clock. No it's my second. I work the morning from Swedish show. There you go. There it is. Okay. One year with our dearest beloved Maria who has I think completely changed our lives. And do you know what?
26:49For her one year anniversary we got her purple tulips because that's her favorite colors purple and her favorite flower are tulips. Today she got Bubz a present. What'd you get her? She walked in and I was like what are those? And she was like this is my present to Tate. an agua bottle because she she really wants an agua bottle like winnie's which has the like it's a water bottle yeah it's not the sippy cup it's the water bottle tate picked it they went to the bookstore and tate picked it and then maria said and it's time for her to get mini forks and spoons so she got her mini forks and spoons oh my goodness i wanted to fall over and die i was like you are so nice and thoughtful she's the best she's sure and tate was like agua agua and then nike was the cutest thing ever but they have little rainbows on the cups anyways here's my point with maria number one i could if i could believe it had been a year i also couldn't at the same time i don't know how you felt about that it flew by but it also i just like the way my memory works is maria was there the first day tate was born i agree with that actually like i like tricked myself into thinking that so if you would have asked me all right how long have um has uh maria been been uh take caretaker i would have said 16 17 months one thing that i love about like some of my friends i grew up with is you know you don't need a caretaker when you start to go to high school right and they always had they always kept so like maria's part of our family and even at my friend's weddings i want maria to be at bubs's wedding like i want i want her to be a part of our life forever and i know she will be i can already tell just by the way that she is totally but she's just like i've when when we were talking about how it was her one year yesterday we gave together like a really long hug and i was like you have just been the best like she's a light Like I love to see her.
28:52Yeah. She comes in every day with such a positive outlook and attitude. And she has put so much focus on what she's doing and the girl's development and well-being. Like she understands them so well. And she spends just so much time like making sure that they are having the best day possible and really growing. and it's unbelievable to watch. She also, it's her demeanor with them because like yesterday Tate's getting her molars and so she just, poor thing, was in like so much pain and you could see it and Maria has the same disposition always. She is calm, cool, and collected, which I think, she's calm, cool, and collected and her energy in the house is calm, cool, and collected and I love to be around it.
29:50she's always asking me she's 10 out of 10 she's always asking me how I feel oh that's very nice she's so excited for this new baby it's the cutest thing ever well there's just there's gonna be a lot of babies in the house she's making me excited for it but I bet a lot of people like I don't know probably even that are our age still keep in touch with the people that were there when they were born and I think that's like I just think that is the sweetest relationship to have and And I'm really happy that we found that for Bubz. As am I. She's phenomenal. She also, she just, this girl, she can cook.
30:26She told me yesterday, I said, you were the best cook I know. She said, it's my love language. I love to cook for people. She whipped up an eggplant lasagna. So she whipped up an eggplant lasagna and she told me, she said, I had a best friend growing up and her mom used to make this eggplant dish that I'm making you right now. I hated it. I was 12 years old. I didn't understand why we were eating it. she said I'm going to text her right now and tell her that I'm making it for you and you love it oh fantastic I said and I said we sent her a photo last night we Harrison and I had a spoon we were in there just shoveling it in our mouth yeah it's great um so anyways a happy one year to our dear sweet Maria is what Bob Goff calls his wife who you don't know who Bob Goff is I have a question what okay um and we're gonna need to search this but I saw a tiktok on my way here are goldie hahn and kurt russell not married but have been together for 40 years yes yes wow correct i believe that is correct are they now do do but like half like happily together they're one of hollywood's most enduring and unmarried couples i saw some clips of him talking about her and they were just unbelievable yeah in a nice way in the nicest most warm and loving way well the other guy that is very nice and loving okay emily blunt's husband what's his name um he just john krasinski yeah john krasinski he raves about her all the time and it and then you see these red carpet clips of them making eye contact and they'll run over to each other like they are really cute yeah exactly how beaver treats um so what's her name hayley hayley oh my gosh no no no i love hayley and justin oh why are you slandering i have no idea i just knew i would get a reaction out of that oh my gosh she she just did this the other at the grammy i saw i did see a really funny clip and it like looked like he from the grammys because you had me watch it looked like he was in the corner like eyeing her and like you know waiting for her to come and then she like walked and she walked right past him and he was like still looking like clearly it's somewhere else i was just like oh my goodness this is no no i people people have a lot to say about them i think they've got a good thing going on i love them i think they're both very talented i thought his performance was really really cool and i just would like to say this alex warren i commented on his video that he posted saying you perform at the grammys and all you can hear and it's an echo of his song okay like if you watched it live alex warren's performance clearly he was having an yearpiece problem he took it out he put it back in so i commented on his video and i said you did a great job and it has like 700 likes but these guys they were tech talking to me and blow and they were like alex you need to admit that he didn't actually do good and i was like no no no he i am proud of for the him for the way he handled it he took it out he got on the tune like and he kept going like i thought he did a really good job handling it this is like an unbelievable example of you know being given lemons and making lemonade where that video you sent me had like within hours it felt like 14 million views so right now i'm sure way more and the amount of just like positive support that's come out uh like through it i think is way better than if it didn't happen at all because of the way he he handled it like totally he went right to social media he addressed it like everyone was kind of wondering what was going on he addressed it he didn't like finger point he didn't blame anyone he didn't get mad at anyone he just like owned the situation was still super gracious and um now i think it's only led to more positive attention on him than him just performing well and here's the thing he didn't win best new artist because olivia dean did but when i think of the best new artist category i'm thinking of olivia dean i'm all thinking of alex warren now like i bet on cal she that he was gonna win yeah great odds great odds you bet what 25 to win 600 20 bucks to win like north of 600 yeah which means that he was actually not favored she she was favored like 98 yeah she was 88 which to me is just like clearly like it was all just leaked she wasn't on my radar um because like I just I don't know but she's since become on my radar her style very classy very 1980s maybe I think her stylist does a good job she's always dressed very elegantly but like chic and beautiful and she's got this flowy hair like I'm really into her she's a star and she's dressing accordingly I know you care so much that you probably want me to talk about a big pop culture podcast.

Like, Bubz is booked and she's busy.
36:43She got invited to a Valentine's Day party on our block. and I was so excited that I couldn't possibly contain myself, and I was like, what do we do? Do we bring Valentines for the other kids? Because did you please tell me you did this in school? Please tell me you did this in school where you took a shoebox of Valentines for everybody in your class? I don't think we did. Did you have Valentines? At what age? I don't know, middle school. Oh, I have vivid memories. Starting in eighth grade, I went to all-boys school. You went to an all-boys school? Well, you guys didn't do Valentine's, Harrison.
37:19But in grade school, it was a grade school thing. Yeah. You would go to the store and let's say there's 25 kids in your class. Your mom would be like, all right, what kind of Valentine's do you want? So you would pick the candy hearts. And then you would have to go home and you would address them to everybody in your class. On Valentine's Day, you take your shoebox that you decorated. I don't think I did this. You decorate your shoebox as a mailbox, okay? and then on Valentine's Day you take your Valentines and everybody puts them in every box and then your box gets filled from your class. Please tell me they still do that today and it's a great time if you have a crush you could get them a little more and you could write something cute on the card.
38:03Valentine's Day is like a whole thing at school. Anyways, Bubz was invited to a Valentine's Day party on the block with six kids they're all below the age of four when is it it's next week and i'm like okay you know we gotta take valentine's now separate from that i was thinking why don't we send both of our parents cute little handmade valentine's cards with their hands on it love it and we could frame it love it and we could send it love it and maybe some candy love it because what we are going to do is every you know i'm a holiday person so we're gonna have heart-shaped pancakes on valentine's day oh i know i know the drill like we're going big yeah i love i love how much you love holidays and it's made me love them i love them so much now i harrison and i have decided actually you're hearing it on the pod it's so it's written the ink is dried when i say this statement okay no gifts this is completely incorrect i have requested no gifts okay i've adamantly requested no gifts, you will still be receiving a gift.

39:11Well, I am the one with child. So I will, you know what? I love a gift. I will take it. But please, no gift for me. So I would like to tell you the two things I was going to get you. Okay, please. Number one is a seated sauna. Have you seen them? No, but I'm really happy you didn't get that for me. They're really small. Our friend Tony has one. You sit in it and you zip yourself up in the sauna and it comes to here. Okay. and you sit for 15 minutes and just sweat it out. And then when you get out, it just kind of folds up. So it doesn't take up a lot of room and it would fit in the basement. Yes.
39:46And I love how thoughtful that gift is. So thank you very much. But, and I understand why you'd want to get that from you. But for me, my favorite part of the sauna is like the experience of sitting in this kind of big wood room and having good conversation. So thrilled that I didn't give it to you. now when but 10 out of 10 on thoughtfulness and like i i get why you would have wanted to get that and i was looking for your gift like i was like i was everywhere i went i was like i'm on high alert for harrison's gift yeah and then she showed it to us and her and i was with the neighbor girl and she said her sister will sit her sister has one and she knows whenever her sister's in it because she'll just get a bunch of texts because like your hands can still be out of it so it's like great phone time like you're sweating it out but you because you can't have your phone in real saunas but in this sauna you can't have your phone so it's kind of cool you could also read a book now the other thing i was going to get you is this amazing piece of art that my friend rachel sent me and it says all the flowers because we're always giving each other flowers we're always giving each other verbal flowers like i'll give you your flowers okay it is the sickest piece of art ever her designer showed it to her and she was like not for me but would be great for alex it would look awesome in our living room but and and you can't tell me that wouldn't be a great gift yeah but that's definitely a gift for the family not for me for you you're the one that says i got to give you your flowers yes but i think if you're gifting someone art that go this is actually a great question if you're gifting your partner art that goes in the living room that's like a communal it's a different classification of gift it's for the it's for the family it's not for them no because you do you get what i'm saying here i understand what you're saying but i think it goes to say like if i were to buy you a grill for the outside we would all benefit from the grill but i would use the grill but the a piece of art everyone is collectively using the same way but it's not art i would buy me as a standalone human being i wouldn't buy this art i don't want to have art in our house that you wouldn't buy i want because you're gonna love the art more than i'm gonna love you're too granular i like this art objectively so you do like it what i love do you want it in our living room what i love about it is that you it's just saying you say okay but do you want if if like the art would look sick if we were at an art museum and we're walking and we saw would you buy it yes okay so then we should get it so do you want a valentine's present now uh absolutely not i really really really really really don't so i'm gonna show you the art and we can decide collectively if we would like to purchase it okay phenomenal it's it's different it's not pop art it's a little more like moody which we could use it would be can I live see it right now it would be juxtaposed to our very the founder of bobby actually messaged me um because she's from ireland as you could tell when you listen to it and whenever i instagrammed our couch she was like this is very irish countryside and i was like That's what I was going for.
42:54That's what I wanted right there, Laura. Okay. My friend Rachel. What's it called? The art. All the flowers.
43:09I will send you the screenshot to add in. Now, granted, when she showed it. Okay. It's also. Okay. This is what she said. This is why she sent it to you. Do you know Chateau Marmount? Yeah, of course. In LA on Sunset Boulevard? yeah so it's it's a it's a receipt and it's written on there and she was like it's kind of an ode to his la times maybe i'm divulging a great gift very moody for our house would be really cool next to the the couch it's black and white
43:47like very thoughtful thank you so much checks so many boxes but like i also i don't really think that goes with our house i think am i allowed to say that yeah i can say it p.m just dming it to you just because it's easier i don't think it goes with your house have you seen it yeah i think i just like the black and white one yeah guys it's really cool i don't see you liking that i don't know why but i love it okay well it's a really thoughtful idea so thank you very much this is all i'm glad i didn't get it i feel great perfect and now we don't need to have the items well we do have valentine's plays that we'll talk about those later but we do we do need to not mess this up because canada shipping is i mean that deserves its own whole entire podcast episode on its own i do want to ship our parents uh valentine's love it from our little totski now our little totski she's got a lot going on and one of those things is she doesn't like to be inside we have an outdoor baby yesterday at five o 'clock yeah wonder how normal this is she's just knocking on the door she'll come she comes over she gets your hand and i already i always know where she's walking me i had to pee yesterday so bad i was like just let me pee and then i'll come with you she's like no now i'm like all right so she holds my hand we walk over to the door she always wants to open the door and she we have some rocks one of our neighbors that lives like five houses down has a bunch of rocks in their yard she picks up a rock she throws it she climbs up their steps but what Harrison took her to do yesterday was took her to the grocery store and he called me because he was getting me french toast and he was like it's gonna be like an hour hour and a half before I can get back and give you your french toast because like she's having so much fun she's just she's just running around like she's just outside running around and she doesn't want to come inside yeah it's it's it's been a a really cool change of like watching her um her interests develop like she loves to be outside and explore loves rocks loves grass loves rocks loves like going up and down curves loves walking on loves like walking to people's stairs obviously we're protecting her i love when she misjudges how far away because the way she gets down a big curb is she backs up into it right so she gets on her knees and she crawls down backwards but sometimes she'll misjudge about like five feet so she's just crawling backwards for like five feet until she gets to the curb and then she gets off it it's the cutest thing on the planet um okay let's discuss our trip our upcoming trip so we are going on a baby moon which i would like to call a child-free vacation yes before the second baby arrives because it's not necessarily a baby moon but i did pick like i said to harrison because with tate i didn't want to do a baby moon but now i was like Well, we kind of did the baby moon in Europe.
46:51Remember we did Mallorca and then the baby moon was kind of up to Soho Farmhouse. But that was also for my birthday. Like we didn't have like an established baby moon. No, no. But it was kind of like a two week big getaway, which I thought is why we didn't do the baby moon. Yeah, which I'm good with calling it that. I'm just saying with this one, I was like, oh, before this baby boy arrives, I would like to carve out three days where you and I can go somewhere. and just hang out the two of us. Yes. Now we have the date book, but we just have no idea where we're going to go. Yes. So we thought about Cabo.
47:30February 18th to 21st. Three days. Anyone who has good babyhood ideas in the U.S. We want to stay in the U.S. Yeah, 18th to the 22nd. Thursday to Sunday. What's that face? Are you sure? Positive. Okay. I just thought it was the 28th. No, because this weekend's Super Bowl. Next weekend's Valentine's Day. Next weekend, we're going. Okay, great. That's exciting. Sooner than I thought. I wanted to go. Here was my one request. I wanted to go somewhere where we don't have to Uber a lot or we don't have to rent a car. Logistically, we can just stay in one place. I want the food to be good. I want to be able to walk some, and I want to be able to relax.
48:13That's all. What's your latest on temperature preference? i'm really actually open because i'm running hot everywhere to me i'm always hot and so if we go somewhere cold that would be not no i want to go somewhere hot yeah i know that was like a crazy switch there i want to go somewhere i'd like had a ski town visualized i was all excited no okay i want to go somewhere hot i just want to i want to have like i'm gonna fruit kick i want to have fruit in the morning i want to walk a little bit and i just want to chill i have a question what total um letter left field what do you think of of joint husband wife bachelor parties love them okay I love them at a certain age would I have wanted to go on a joint bachelor party when I was 25 no I think that those need to be girls and guys separate because everyone's in different phases of life i think that you want to you take them so much more seriously when you're young like the bride wears white like the itineraries are really planned now being older i would love because like people have kids now and you know people like you're making more money when you're older and so i would love a joint one also one i think like one thing i love about our friend group is the overlap of friends between like how many couples, like your best friends, your best girlfriends and my best guy friends are together, which I think would make it so much fun.
49:50But now here's the thing. I was pitched a very interesting bachelor party. Okay. Okay, should I share what the bachelor party is? Yeah. Okay. So, and when I was pitched it, So should I – I'm just trying to think about the best way to do this. So I was pitched it and – For you? For me. But then my mindset was, hmm, this would probably be more fun as a couple strip. Okay. Pitch it to me. Okay. So have you heard of the Calgary Stampede? Yes. Okay. I'm so down for this because the Canada tie. Now, July 12th is the last night of the Calgary Stampede. Harrison. calgary i think the problem that i have is like on the bachelor party i only want to party one night the other two nights i want to be experience oriented right by calgary is one of the most beautiful places in the world called banff yes i've heard of this so we do we go up to banff you do one day of golf and one day of fishing wow then so you do that thursday golf friday of fishing day, wake up Saturday morning, drive an hour and a half to Calgary, do the stampede all day Saturday, and then you fly it Sunday.
51:07If people don't want to golf or they don't want to or they don't want to fish, the hiking in BAMP is unbelievable. Like they've got phenomenal spas and it just, I don't know, it feels like the perfect one, two punch. Well, here's the thing. A point for this is I haven't heard you get excited about a bachelor party scenario yet. Well, I wanted an activity that you could party around and then like one or two non-partying activities. Totally. And you're Canadian. So like taking people to Canada is really cool. Yeah. And like I don't think taking people to Whistler is fun for you. Like as fun. It's not as new for you.
51:52I want to take people to Whistler like normally. I don't want to do that for my bachelor party. That's not an outlier. Whistler isn't what I want to do. Whistler, phenomenal bachelor party location for people that didn't grow up there. Yeah. But for you, it's not an outlier experience. It's like, yeah, I know this. Like the back of my hand. Yeah. Okay. The Calgary Stampede's been on my radar. Your sister told me about it. And I was like, oh, I really, really, really want to go to that. This is an Alex Cost idea. It's a really good idea. And it just feels like one of those ones that like probably like I think would be more fun if all the couples went.
52:19What a nice friend, too, to be thinking of your bachelor party. He is pitching me ideas all the time. Oh, my gosh. So Tauntaun texted me this the other day. She's like, are you doing a bachelor party? And I was like, or a bachelorette party. And I was like, that's so funny. It's one of the things I'm like most excited about. Yes. But for mine, man, I got all these ideas. Maybe now I'm going to Calgary. What are your ideas? I have a different idea every day. Every day. Guys, let's talk about Quince because I am jazzed about Harrison's most recent ordering. we've had about four or five boxes of quince pop up on our front porch and he got this suede over shirt okay he put it on for me he came in he's like what do you think i was like that shirt is awesome i want him to wear it on valentine's day it is a staple it is so cool and that's the thing with quince you guys quince is all about elevated essentials that feel effortless designed for layering and mixing each piece helps build a timeless wardrobe made to last with versatile Silhouettes and thoughtful details.
53:15They're the kind of styles you want to wear again and again. And here's the thing, you guys, this stuff is premium, but it is not the cost of the premium designers that are out there, but it is the same exact quality. And the way they do that is they partner direct with manufacturers. So they're able to cut out the middleman and they can pass along the discounts to you and I, which is why everything that comes in is so high quality, but it doesn't hurt your wallet. 53:53That's q-u-i-n-c-e.com slash Alex to get free shipping and 365 day returns. quince.com slash alex additionally speaking i i have a real obsession with goodie bags so like this is trust me not on your radar but what's on my radar is like okay so if we go to the stampede everyone gets a monogram bandana everyone gets a monogrammed hat which is so cool well welcome baskets have you thought of those a room drop no yeah i have not thought of those Have you heard of those? What I'm thinking about is direct flights. Okay. And Calgary sneakily has a lot of direct flights, including from Austin. No way.
54:39Yeah. Sign. That's a big sign. I'm thinking about activities and I'm thinking about a good party, a unique party. And I'm thinking about monogram bandanas. Yeah. That everyone can have. What's your number one bachelor party idea right now for yourself? Well, I thought a ranch would be really cool. I love like I loved paws up or I loved some sort of because I'm with you like the experience version of it I think would be really cool but I also love a boat so Cabo with a boat day I think is really fun but a ranch with like a campsite fire is really cool Napa is fun I can design in a million different ways truly so it's just I'll say this it's fun to think about it's fun while I'm pregnant not feeling so good to think about feeling good going somewhere with my friends but like I let you know I love fun dinners like I don't know so I go all over the place with it yeah I've always told you for you though I always thought Pebble Beach would be cool but the problem that I have with Pebble Beach is like what is the fun what is like the party day totally and you don't love golf i want to golf one day you like golf and and here's here's what what i was talking to alex about is like every most people have one day of golf in them regardless of what they think about golf most people have one day fishing in them regardless what they think about fishing but like if it's a fishing trip and you have three days of fishing some people are gonna be like i don't want to do that or if it's a three-day golf trip somebody like i don't want to do that and i think most people have one day partying in them so it just felt like the perfect one two punch the other thing is i don't think a lot of people will ever go to calgary or banff so that that's what's cool about our age and doing a bachelor bachelorette party is saying like hey we've all been to napa and we've probably been to cabo unless your name's harrison you haven't been and these are these are repeat destinations that we'll go to a lot but calgary in Banff?
56:39Most people probably haven't been, but every time I see somebody Instagram BAMF, I mean, I'm notorious for this. It is beautiful. I say, where on earth are you? And they say BAMF. And the hiking is unbelievable. Most people, even if you don't like hiking, you got one day hiking in you. Yeah, and like, you can leave the hike early. I don't love to hike. I would love to hike in a beautiful destination. Okay, we got to move on from this though, because I do think you and I could talk about it since we're blue in the face. However, if you have a phenomenal baby moon destination please let us know what is going to be funny though what do you think about joint bachelor bachelorette parties yes and what's going to be funny about both of these trips is not traveling with the bubberator because one thing about traveling bubs is coming on the joint bachelor bachelorette okay that's really cute and i would love that i don't know if she's coming but I know she's not coming on the baby moon and what will be so crazy about the baby moon is not having to think about all the things we pack for bubs and not having to do my preemptive door dash order yeah because what I think about it is like when no matter how prepared no matter how many checklists you make before you travel logistically speaking I what I what has helped me so much with parenting is doing a DoorDash order upon landing.
58:00And without bubs, I know we're still going to have a DoorDash order, especially with me being pregnant. It'll probably be a bunch of different food. But I wonder what we will DoorDash because every time when we're landing, this is a very big parenting hack that I have. Every time we were landing, because we love to carry on, not check a bag. And the way we're able to do that, where we save a lot of space is diapers. So I'll take plenty of diapers for two days right because you can just fit i can fit those in my care or my little bag that i take my diaper bag but when we're landing i will start my door dash order and i'll add diapers to it and i also have started adding now that we do solids i love to add i'll add her some of her snacks bananas blueberries raspberries and then we can have them in the hotel room which is lovely um and so door dash as a travel companion especially as a parent massive hack but I know that even when whenever we go to whatever our destination is we will be placing a door dash order for me and you yeah I think this one's gonna be very tasty food centric yes yes very tasty food centric I'm sure I'm gonna like forget a bathing suit or something terrible so it'll be like some good sweets and then like a bathing suit it'll be sweets and salties.
59:22I'm big on these hippie. They taste like a Cheeto. Hip peas. You know what I'm talking about? Yellow. You know what I'm talking about? They're called hip peas. Yeah. I cannot stop eating those right now. I know. Random, but I love them. All right. So let's go to in the comments, It's bicker of the week and things we DM'd. In the comments, dogs, dogs. Last episode, we were like, we would love to get a dog, but because we're dog people, love kids with dogs, but when do we get a dog? I received so many text messages from my friends and DMs from people that are my internet friends saying, please, please do not get a dog right now.
1:00:13like you will regret it so much and kudos to the people that were really vulnerable but also and to wait until not don't get a dog in general but no don't get it don't get a dog when your kids are young especially when you have a newborn on the way like when you have that baby if you're also training a dog you will lose your mind but didn't they sorry i i thought they said to still to get a dog just wait till the youngest is five i thought that was the overwhelming consensus or is that was that not that that's right my friends don't have five-year-old kids yet so they're just saying don't get the dog right now absolutely get a dog at some point but the people in the comments were saying wait until the kids are at least five the youngest kid is at least five or seven years old somebody today said they need to be 10 the youngest kid is five then you can get the dog and i think we googled that and that's what google said and we kind of felt like that sounded too late but generally that seems to be what people were saying or they were saying like you should have gotten a dog two years ago yeah i i am very surprised that the the reaction would not have been more just like i if you would have asked me at the time i would have thought people would have said just get the dog it doesn't matter when you can do it before you can do it right when they're born or you can do it after um but yeah like i guess in theory given we didn't get one before bubs like waiting till the youngest is five makes makes sense so what i'm now i'm excited about is is the holiday where we give them the dog as the gift and will we get one dog at that moment or we will we get two dogs oh i think we'll get one i think you start with one okay it's officially the month of love and we know you want to celebrate with the one you love most, and that is your dog.

1:03:35I thought we would have been in no animal household until we get the dog But they're going to be like, mom I have to have a goldfish. I used to love to go to PetSmart and look at all the fish and I used to want one so bad but then I know the problem is you got to clean out the fish containers Here's the question Would you let Bubz get a snake? like harrison no because if that snake ever got out you truly i would i would burn our house down so what are the animals that you wouldn't let bubs get a snake yeah a lizard yeah a rep a reptile reptiles reptiles no reptiles what about like a big spider no no a pet tarantula if it gets out I can't be afraid of it.
1:04:23Chihuahua, fair game. Those are good. A chihuahua is a dog. Not a chihuahua. What are those called? Chinchilla. Chinchilla. You can get a chinchilla. She can get a hamster. I used to have a hamster and it never failed. It would get out and then it would eat a hole through the carpet. Bunny? Bunny. Oh, I would welcome a bunny. I think Bub's going to get a bunny early on. Chickens in the back. She can go get eggs. Yes. All day long. That reminds me. that step I told you guys we ordered for the counter been a no brainer she is like a chef she helped Harrison what'd she help you make well she helped Maria make breakfast this morning on a scale of 1 to 10 am I like what's the joking level I'm allowed to incorporate pet spiders moving forward like no zero Harrison especially when I'm pregnant of course when you're not pregnant I think you have the fake spiders you saying fake spiders or pet spiders?
1:05:21Pet spiders. One of my friends started dating a guy and he had a pet spider. It would be over. And she had a dog and they couldn't combine them because the pet spider. It was a whole thing. Well, why couldn't they combine them? Because her boyfriend, the pet spider just kind of chills around the house. No! It goes out of the cage? It has its own sanctuary, but it also kind of can pre-roam. no I want to cry my skin is crawling bring her dog to his house because that is a recipe for disaster if so I always say this with you I think it was love at first sight I loved you so much if you told me there's not a lot you could have done right two weeks in three weeks in if you would have said by the by the way so glad you're coming to LA can't wait for you to see my house I do have a pet spider I think I would start hysterically crying like you know I had a pet snake I would know I can hand I can understand having a pet snake because people have those having a pet I would make you get rid of I'd be like can you please get rid of the snake I can't stay there you're kidding I didn't have either and I will say that if you had a pet snake that probably would have been a deal breaker for me if you had a pet spider I'd be like are you willing to go home right now and re-home your spider no because to me it's just like i hate i don't like spiders don't scare me but i hate them yeah and and i just snakes can be the heebie-jeebies yeah i just and if you want to be around a snake then like that that probably means somewhere within there isn't a fit yeah like a snake was a deal breaker for me in dating we're different and you know i would have been sorry i didn't have it on my list of deal breakers because i didn't even think i didn't think about the possibility now i know that i know we have made this community mad before and sad before and i love i love all pets i'm good with the snake community coming after us do you want to know what i don't if you had a cat though that would have also been tough on me i'm just gonna let you know that now do you want to know what my family pet turtle was named what give it one guess jenny one more guess it's like about as close as to jenny as you can get in like relation to me nori no my brother named my turtle julie oh my gosh we had a turtle named julie for like 10 years that's amazing when i was born that's amazing that's really cute he got a pet turtle when you were born named julie i love that yeah it's pretty funny if you had a pet like if bubs wants a pet turtle i know like there's a lot of gross it's gross but i'm i'm fine with that because turtles don't scare me the the smell of like the turtle food like i sometimes still catch it like somewhere and it haunts me but i know i know a big thing used to be those hermit crabs and you would go to the mall and they would paint the shell yes or you would nail polish the shell yes i don't know if that's bad i think in general none None of it was good for the crabs or the snails.
1:08:27But yeah, that was a really – did you guys have that up in Canada? Were you going to the store and getting pet crabs that were painted pink? I don't think so. Yeah, we were doing that a lot. And the malls have really taken a turn. I saw this video that was like – Not the domain. Domain is a great mall. Great mall. But I saw this video that was like I'm going to make – I'm a mall designer. I want the parking lot to always be empty. I'm going to make it as sad and depressing as possible. And like that is because malls used to be such an iconic place to go. I love the mall. I go to the mall here all the time.
1:09:03Which mall? The mall. That's not the domain. Yeah. I love Barton Creek too. We went to a mall though out by Lake Travis. It was sad. Yeah. I mean the mall I used to go to growing up Oak Ridge. That mall was unbelievable and it went through a very depressing phase. But I kind of think they're doing like a development comeback. I think new malls have it going on. The domain is truly like... And the Barton Creek Mall is good too. I love the Barton Creek Mall. I love their farmer's market. I haven't been. I want to go. Yeah, it's great. Good for meats. It's practical. I wouldn't say it has the flair of a farmer's market, but like you will leave with items.
1:09:40And we still haven't been to Mueller. No, which we need to do. It's not worth it. Not worth it? Okay, that's good to know. Okay, now we're going to go to Bicker of the Week. Like Harrison has recently discussed, not discussed, recently divulged he might not want a pool. The desire to have a pool was like definitely both of us mutually wanting it. We live in Austin. It's hot here 10 months out of the year. We always were looking for a pool. We think we want to spend a lot of time at home whenever we have all the kids. Having the pool is just like a good additive into our lives and like a good use of time.
1:10:13He now says, and I think this is classic, I think a lot of pool dreams die in the winter because people don't want pools. And when you said you don't want a pool, I was like, yeah, but it's February. Of course you don't want a pool because nobody wants to go through building a pool right now. I just haven't seen the layout that I love. That's my big issue is like we just brought in a new guy and it didn't hit. Just dig a square and fill it with water. that does it thinking space optimization and just be area and the cooking area maybe you're overcomplicating we're fighting with impervious cover we got to go through all the permitting yeah but this is why i was saying men maybe not a good candidate to carry babies because we have to bake for nine months and it's like the best outcome ever and here you are you're just giving up on our pool right now in the middle of february and it's like no age when we're i'll give it another push when we're postpartum we're gonna want to pull i'll give it another push like when we're just around the house like you're gonna want to pull i know you're gonna give it another push i just wanted to give you one more nudge to get the push so it's actually not really a bicker of the week no it is a bicker of the week it's pool or no pool and i don't think you should give up on a good thing just because it's hard i need help no you need to not over complicate it as much i I think it's just a rectangle or a square with an entrance.
1:11:42I want to see Tony's pool today because I'm very confused on what the best dimensions for the pool are. Which we can do because we have mommy-daughter dance class. And it is by her house. So we can go up there. Okay. And then the last thing we'll do before we wrap is instead of things we DMed, we're going to do things we learned this week, which is something I DMed Harrison. And it's this concept. of connection before direction, which is a method to handle a meltdown, which I loved whenever I saw it, which is basically if your toddler is melting down, they were showing this dad and it was before bath time and the toddler was just like screaming, crying.
1:12:23And the dad went up to the toddler and said, hi, sweetheart, you're sad because mommy's not here for bath time. Is that right? And the toddler was like, yeah. And he was like, why don't you give me a hug? connection. He was acknowledging why the toddler was sad, but he's like, you love bath time. I know mommy normally does bath time, but we're going to make bath time really fun. Why don't you go get your little piggy? And he has this like little piggy. So then the baby's like the toddler's holding the piggy. So they're connecting. Okay. And then once a toddler cools down, he does the direction, the redirection.
1:12:55So he's like, now are you ready to go get in the bath? You love bath time and the toddler was like yes so I think that's really cool because like one thing I've learned about parenting is I don't know what you don't know and you don't know these things before you come to them but one area where I really love the internet is you get these little videos they're like snack size and you can learn a lot which is like connect with them and then redirect them for sure I do think that one you do see a lot of consistency in the themes behind these these things though which is very much like stay calm stay patient and be very present and focused and i feel like those general pillars kind of like tie into um most things that like knowledge and acknowledge so i saw two more videos i'll just summarize for you really quickly one is like stop telling your toddler to stop doing something like don't walk in the middle of the road they don't know what to do instead of that so you have to say don't walk in the middle of the road we always walk on the sidewalk and i thought exactly i thought okay same thing it's it's the same it's exact same patience presence clear communication but not just no no no no but do this instead yeah and then this is this is the one i wanted to tell you about i meant to tell you this off the top so there's this girl called brat busters parenting i love i love following her and yesterday she had one and she said, are you afraid to go out to eat with your toddler because you're afraid they're going to be crazy in the restaurant?
1:14:30She said, think about it this way. Your toddler doesn't know the difference between mealtime at home and mealtime out at a restaurant. So at home, you let them eat, get up, run around while you still stay eating, right? Well, sometimes they can stand on the table at home, but then you go out to a restaurant and you're worried about what all these other people think you want your toddler to be on their best behavior at a restaurant but to them mealtime is mealtime is mealtime so they don't understand why sometimes at their house during mealtime they can be one way but you take them out to a restaurant for mealtime and they have to be a total a different way no that makes a lot of sense and then she says so you say your toddler going into the restaurant be on your best behavior they don't know what best behavior means they just know they're going to be on their behavior so she said her kids always knew because her kids are a lot older now mealtime meant to sit down and eat so whether they were at home or they were at the restaurant mealtime was sit down and eat and they always knew they had the same mom no matter where they were so mom at home was like no sit down and eat and mom at the restaurant was like sit down and eat and this to me feels like one of those things that like works a lot better in theory than reality like i'm sure because getting a kid to like sit down and eat like of course that's what i wish we could just like do but no i agree most of the time bubs just takes laps while she eats and she eats part time in the living room part time at the table part time on the stairs like she eats everywhere my point is though it would be confusing i what i love that it pointed out is like how confusing meal time at home totally different than meal time at a restaurant they don't know we try like we try to have meals all sitting down together but like the art helps in reality it that's it it's not as smooth as we'd like but i did love the point of her pointing out the rules kind of need to be similar.

This week on Two Parents & A Podcast, we’re very much in planning mode - talking babymoon ideas, future parenting rules (we NEED your thoughts on the bed-making debate), and yet another round of nesting.
We start with coffee shop talk (yes, the same one we’ve been talking about for the last two weeks), why good habits take forever to build while bad ones take about two days, and the current parent uniform: sweatsuits with mystery stains. From there, it’s full nesting energy (again) - labeling everything (western shorts, IYKYK), debating whether kids are born Type A or if we accidentally make them that way, and getting into the surprisingly divisive question of whether kids should make their own beds (possibly our first real parenting style disagreement live on the pod??).
Then we get into technology and boundaries: the no phones in bedrooms rule, what age kids are actually getting phones now, and how we somehow ended up with a landline (yes, really). We celebrate Maria’s one-year anniversary with us, spiral into celebrity power couples, Grammys discourse, Valentine’s Day card exchanges at school, and our ongoing “no gifts” debate.
Mid-episode, we start planning our babymoon (US only, no car required - please send help), talk through joint bachelor/bachelorette parties (fun or a hard no?), share our #1 travel hack that immediately lowers stress (with or without kids), and revisit the ongoing dog conversation - why everyone says we should NOT get one yet, and whether we’re secretly a no-pets house… until the day we’re not (I still cannot believe Harrison asked if I’d consider a pet spider).
We wrap with mall nostalgia (or lack thereof), a classic Bicker of the Week (pool vs. no pool - IN TEXAS), and a new behavioral tactic we’ll keep in mind for those future meltdowns: connection before direction.
LOVE YOU GUYS. Thanks for listening!!!!
