In short

The hosts juggle family life and parenting (a child’s hand injury, “toilet learning” instead of potty training, and a toddler’s gymnastics/birthday excitement), plus sports rivalry talk (OU vs Texas and a Red River Rivalry-themed gear plan). They also discuss: a viral High Rocks story about a competitor pooping during the event; whether stretching prevents injury; AI safety discourse (Anthropic’s CEO calling for slowing AI and third-party monitoring); and a debate on Pokemon cards as alternative investments.

Guests

No guests appear in this transcript; it’s a “Two Parents in a Podcast” episode with the hosts and their friends/family mentioned.

Key claims & notable examples

Harrison’s finger/hand gash from a broken glass; a Beijing High Rocks competitor continued after pooping, prompting backlash about lack of intervention; a meta-analysis (26,610 participants) says stretching doesn’t reduce injury rates, while strength training does; Anthropic’s CEO proposes an independent third party with access to enforce safety standards; Pokemon card investing claims (e.g., one card bought for $16M, predictions of $50–$100M) are challenged as oversimplified due to supply/demand, mint-condition requirements, and valuation difficulty.

1:10I would go as far as saying the pool would suck without it growing up I never swam on a pool that had a ledge oh we had one my because growing up we most we swam in my grandpa Harold's pool most of the time Rocky Harold Fugman Rocky Harold Fugman and that pool did not have that pole did not have a ledge yeah I'm trying to think ledges like I don't I can't recall seeing a swimming ledge until very recently really? yeah so that was a great call by you because I didn't I thought we may not even need a swimming ledge yeah we almost got rid of our swimming ledge and Tate today she played on the swimming ledge for hours one of your friends messaged and told us that was where they spend the most time libby libby thank you libby she's i said we were thinking about making it smaller she said i'd go bigger nope i'd go i'd go the opposite way yeah all right ready ready can i just do this really yeah but you need the asmr okay you need the asmr i love it that was a really good one that was a 9.2 welcome back to another episode of two parents in a podcast it's monday and football has officially kicked off and there's a pun there get it very good pun very good pun harrison has a hurt finger i was wondering about that freak accident actually a freak accident what happened my glass fell as it fell i went to catch it as i was going in to catch it it broke as it hit the surface and i still caught the glass but i caught the bottom half and the top half was shattered and i have a nasty gash ow yeah i don't love that it is very deep apparently it is i wasn't there it was so unlucky and there's yeah there's so much blood it sucks oh there's nothing worse yeah so we just like we're not moving it we have it wrapped up pretty tight we didn't go we didn't go get stitches which i feel like i'm gonna regret it's okay do they just do the glue these days or are they actually stitching you up i don't know i bought glue we got glue so after this we're gonna do some hydrogen peroxide glue a really good tape up because Harrison goes out of town today yeah we too I was with two friends at the end and we just all looked around at each other being I cannot believe that just happened transparently I was texting P about something because I needed to check something I didn't hear what happened he caught a glass and it broke at the same time I appreciate the transparency I appreciate it Jules you caught a glass and it broke yeah that does stink I will tell you one funny thing the friends i was with are incredibly caring friends and the types of friends that if i needed to go to the hospital definitely would have 100 gone to the hospital to get stitches with me oh they would have definitely without without thinking twice about it but i i needed to dispel very early on like you could see like they're waiting to be like how bad is this and i was like don't worry i have this covered like because it happened very late at night was the other thing but not like it wasn't a drunk in ordeal and so i was like don't don't worry i i've got this everyone can go home it was as our ubers were being ordered the ubers outside and i was asleep at home and harrison came and i listen i know better than this i'm not proud of it but i'll tell him myself and this he will he can't So I'm knocked out.

5:07And I was so excited. Like I went to bed early and I had cleaned that house and done Rocky. Like I had such a productive night. This was probably to say, I said late. That's late for us. This is probably, I'm home maybe 15 to 20 minutes after the UT game ends. You got home at 1040. I looked at the clock. Yeah. So we're talking 1040 PM, not like midnight, one, two. 1040, very late for me. comes in turns on the light and i'm like well we can't be doing that and i like woke up and he's like everything's okay and i'm like but and he's like but i i did get a gash in my hand and i need you to help me maybe we need to go get stitches and i can't believe i said this jules i don't even think i can say it it's fine i was like you can uber to get the stitches no it's so mean but i was like we got the kids here and i was like i was like i got it don't worry and i think the tape job went well and this morning i was like and that's why today i was like we will go to cvs and we will get you glue and all these things and we're gonna fix it okay good because it was very mean i was so like tired and disoriented and then i was like if you said that to me i would not event non-event i would cry if you said that to me non-event so i'm really sorry for that i'm gonna mess with my training though i was thinking how happy i was that this didn't happen right before the high rocks i couldn't have done the high rocks without it yeah here's the thing it's very michael jordan flu game you could no i could like no but that's the thing it would got it would just every time i move my thumb it's gushes blood you would just have well if you had blood all over the equipment well then tell your story now tell your story about the girl okay there's a big there's a big high rock story we're coming the official high the unofficial official high rocks podcast so um and we're gonna need to put the tweet up there was a girl who competed in the beijing um in the beijing high rocks and she pooped herself in the high rocks and she completed covered in poop and poop went all over the course and they let her compete.

7:03Why? It's a thing that happens. In marathons? In marathons, yeah. It's a huge thing. That's fine. High Rocks is an hour. High Rocks, it has to be a poop-free sport. It has to be a poop-free sport. The marathon, marathons you're outside, number one. I'm fine if you poop in the marathon. And the course distance, the course is huge in a marathon. The High Rocks course is very condensed. There's only like 50 spots per routine. So like that means - Why? When it's just not that competitive, like, are you kidding me? Here's also the thing. It is that competitive. There's a rule in high rocks. You get suspended.

7:39You get kicked out of the race. If you like take a gel in the middle of the race and throw it on the floor, like you get disqualified. There's all these different things in high rocks that allow you to get disqualified. You need to keep the course clean. That includes poop. It's not unreasonable. It's the top of the list. Jeff, for example, drank some water over a trash can and he got a warning because they don't want the ground to be wet. So you slip like you can't be pooping. Yeah. I couldn't believe that they let this fly. But why? I almost want to think it's a fake story, but I saw it so much on Twitter that I believe it's true.

8:15Like you got to leave. You got to go to the bathroom and come back. But she needs to leave. That's what I'm saying. That was on her. like it's just it's not your race it's like you you know you tore your acl like it's not you know if you tear your acl and you want to keep going fine okay that's a heroic story for me if you want to puke and rally fine but you puke in the trash can yeah people online they're they're not too happy i'm not happy i if i was competing and I'm like seeing shit stains on like during my wall balls. No, like you got to go to the bathroom. It might add four minutes to it.

9:02Okay, Pyrox is very good at updating the rules consistently. I think they're going to put out a rule that makes this a disqualification and they'll use good wording. Like if you are, if there's any fluid that comes out of your body and creates a disruption on the course a la blood a la poop you're disqualified because if it's blood it's the same thing like you can't be bleeding all over the course you you you cannot be you and here's the other thing we can maybe we could get some bathrooms nearby and you could go in that way but like if you have to if i pooped in my pants i would be mortified have you seen the videos no it's very graphic and she keeps going it's not like she pooped and you couldn't tell It was everywhere.

9:49Jules, you've seen the videos now? Now I have, yeah. And they're just allowing it to continue? Yeah. Does she look embarrassed? And there's so many judges in these races. Did she look like, oh no? So for context, like during the wall balls, you have to throw a wall against a ball and do a squat a hundred times. Each person has their own dedicated judge. And then there's master judges that sit behind your judge to help enforce like the broader rules. So it's not like a marathon where like maybe you can kind of like slip between the cracks. Throughout every event, there is someone watching you making sure you're doing it correctly.

10:26No, no, no. High Rocks definitely saw that she had poop. She doesn't look embarrassed. And I think that was part of the backlash online is like not on her, on like where was the intervention from the race organizers. Yeah. And even if it's like go clean up. Yeah. Wow. Like, I would even be like, I guess we could pause the clock for you. If you please, please just go to the bathroom. Yeah. All right. So on from pooping to potty training. Or from pooping to potty training. Look at this podcaster. What is it? From pooping to potty. Toilet learning. Toilet learning. Yeah, we are not potty training.

11:03We are toilet learning. I want to film. Wait, okay. So we still need to do the joke on the neighbors. Okay. And we're going to do it. we need to tell them we're calling it urine and defecating what's the word um feces feces urine and feces and but the other thing i want to do is is try to film myself having a serious conversation with somebody and tell them we're not we are not potty training we're toilet learning in our house yeah i'm torn on this one because once again on one end it's ridiculous to like but on the other end as seeing it they're very different things but whatever we can't take the credit for this one versus like like if someone says like how did you know i think a lot of things is like how did you transition um from the snoo to the crib like we did things there when it comes to this we did nothing no but we did we did we ordered the toilet yeah so we just and we started showing her this is how you go to the bathroom she she crushed today though she has toilet awareness She has major toilet awareness.

12:07And like Jules, today, she has, she's crushed it. And she's done such a good job. And we've had a party every time. She dumps it in the real toilet. We flush it. We say bye-bye. Like it's a whole thing. It's very exciting. I'm doing something that I don't normally do. What? But I'm having a second energy drink. I mean, you guys have been here for 15 minutes. and you finish that one. That's a lot of caffeine in a short amount of time. I'm not even drinking it for the energy at this point. I just, it's so good that I just want to have more of it. Okay. Okay. I agree. And I have a long flight and I have a big to-do list of work things to do on this flight.

12:52Okay, so let's talk about your trip. So this is Sunday, by the way, because the episode airs tomorrow morning. Here's the only thing I'm going to see on my trip. Harrison's gone Sunday to Wednesday. I'm very excited for this. it's a work thing um but it's a social oriented work thing it's like a conference yeah more or less exactly very well put which is like a bunch of guys in this industry and they like kind of all go to the same spot which do you want to say where you're going yeah uh yeah i'll be in seattle

13:22the so while i'm very excited for the trip like the the number one you'd like the big shift in mindset not even shift in mindset but like i'm so excited to go i am so excited to come back and be home and spend time with the family not only are you so excited to come back you come back wednesday yeah and the totski's birthday is thursday it is and you guys there are some things i'm so excited like when tate was three months old we took her to five pumpkin patches she had no idea she was there she couldn't even hold her head up this age now we went to cvs today we played with all the halloween toys she's gonna love halloween i keep asking her whose birthday is it she's my birthday birthday per tate like she knows she's how are you gonna be two are you gonna have a birthday party yeah do you want to invite suede yes like she is she knows for the most part what's going on i'm so excited for her birthday the big difference between one and one and a half and two is I feel like when your kid is one, you're doing things for them that are from an experience perspective that are very much about their development, but not necessarily appreciated by them.

14:39And where the flip has switched at her now being two is she appreciates the experiences that we give her. Yes. So while they're good for development, now you see the excitement on her face. And both dance class and gymnastics are a phenomenal idea. Like this morning when we brought her into the bed, we're like, what do you want to do this morning? And she thought about it. She's like gymnastics. And I'm like, oh no. And so you know, we're putting her in something that she's really enjoying. She loves gymnastics. But yesterday was funny because we were at gymnastics and she was really into it. And then you know what?

15:20I grabbed my purse to leave and she was like, Tate's purse. So we went and got Tate's purse. We put them in the car. When we got to gymnastics, I was like, I'll just grab my purse. I grabbed my purse. She's like, Tate's purse. So I get Tate's purse. Halfway through the gymnastics, she went over to her purse, started grabbing all her items out of it, and was handing them out to people. And I was like, we might not have an athlete. We might have more of a fashionista on our hands. We're going to wait it out and see. But she's like, Tate's purse, like handing an egg and a bracelet. And we were doing all that.

15:45She was really loving it. Really loving talking to the kids. Do you think it would have been different? I didn't go to gymnastics yesterday. He was working on instead. I made plans with three other folks. To work out. One for a solo workout. Yeah, I made plans and it conflicted. Hold on. I didn't say that as though like he went to work out. I'm saying I think it's cool that you did. Okay. Yeah, it was an unfortunate time. One thing I want to make very clear on this podcast so maybe we could stop hedging about it is like when you go and do things, you get to go and do them because you are so involved all the time and vice versa.

16:18Like you going working out on a Saturday morning is like not a thing. yes but i will normally plan my workout around gymnastics not conflict with anything that we're doing with her this was plans made with three other people yeah but i'm just saying it wasn't a thing yeah okay uh do you think if i was there do you think that me not being there she had less focus on gymnastics yes because you get on the balance being like harrison if they say you're going to roll down the mat. Harrison like rolls down the mat. Sure. What to do. And I was on the balance beam with her showing her, but you're more animate.

16:55Like you're making sure you're doing it well. So then like she wants to do it well. You went on the balance beam? Yep. Good for you. Thank you. We never talked about your cartwheel the other day. I finally did one. Yes. Did she like it? She loved it, Jules. We tried. I would have put that in the video, but her shirt was like lifting up. we tried to do the cartwheel for for 10 minutes afterwards for her very difficult for her to understand hand hand foot foot yeah it didn't that's that's too hard right now but i would say our current favorite thing to do is ride the horsey where she gets on your back and wait does it in the pool does it everywhere does it yeah anywhere that's possible um so the birthday very excited about that she's very excited about it i think the biggest hurdle we're gonna have is once the birthday is over explaining to her that her it's not her birthday i think we might have it is every day not everyone's birthday type moment which is really cute yes but i'm i'm confident in her ability to understand that over time well the good news is like maybe it could just be somebody else's birthday yes and then we'd be like okay now it's their birthday oh well it's winnie's birthday perfect so then it goes from tate to winnie yeah so we can just do a little transition there yeah um okay great so yesterday was you know the start would you call the start of college football yes because while it's technically week three this was the first week that you had like real games i'm getting a lot of feedback on both of our kids being in burnt orange a lot of feedback a hefty amount of feedback and even today at brunch like do you understand how big the OU Texas rivalry is because what they were saying at brunch day we ran into a guy that's from A &M they're like you can wear your Aggie colors here but like you like you can't like oh it's the I'm from the biggest rivalry school do you understand that our biggest this is like an ou sign is horns down so like my friends were like what it's not like you decided that you were a notre dame fan

19:12no i get it like well it's sorry it's actually hard because while i get it on paper i clearly don't get it emotionally people were like oh i'm shocked number two the other side is like we live here like it's the home team but so like this is where kate and rocky were born yeah so it's so it's going to be a good debate this is this is going to be the thing you know do i go where i live currently or do i do i have my alma mater and for you i totally get you stick with your alma mater that makes all the sense in the world to me but for the kids like this is where the kids were born if the kids were born in oklahoma i would i could totally see it them them going sooner but this is the problem this is the problem they should be both but it's so i guess like that's the thing like if i went to usc i would be like okay half the time we're gonna wear usc outfits and then we're gonna like change into our texas outfits i think it's jaw dropping because people are like well it's the those are the two you're gonna go for both the rivals yeah i mean this is like um osu alum and having their kids in michigan stuff yes like yeah hard does that hit more so my point is i'm i've ordered tate some ou outfits and and i'm very supportive of that you wanted to get an ou hat harrison was like i'm gonna get an ou hat because i want to ride a really cool ou bucket hat yeah and i was because you were like you went there i want to like ride with this school too a hundred percent and what i realized yesterday when i posted that with the amount of shock people were experiencing was like okay these are two rival schools like i didn't just pick another random school but yeah it is where we like yeah we also like we took the caddy we uh took it to campus before the game we were riding around music blasting horns up and i went into the rally dog store and i bought all the kids matching utl fits which is like the best thing ever yeah so no no there's also not that much like that was just kind of the like we didn't buy them weeks ago in anticipation of this we bought them that morning oh no i think it's the cutest thing ever but i'm just saying we need to lift on the red side a little bit now we gotta we gotta we gotta just right our wrongs yeah let's get her the same i'm happy to have the same outfits for both of them but i feel like they're naturally going to be ut fans like this is where they're from they are but they're gonna know mama mama Mama Boomer.

21:39How about that? Absolutely. What are you going to – what's it called? The Red River Rivalry? It's impossible to say. So what are you going to wear that day? What's Tate going to wear? Well, here's how I always – we went to a tailgate party. In Dallas. And Rocky and I wore UT colors and Alex and Tate wore Oklahoma colors. You need a house divided flag? Yeah, let's do that. That's a good one. I'm good with whatever. They actually do make those house divided flags. They're so funny. Let's get a house divided flag. There's a literal divide on the flag and it's part OU, part Texas. Let's do that. Yeah, I'm up for whatever.

22:18Well, I know you are, but I'm just saying Harrison said to me at the start of the season, I'm going to ride with OU. I was like, great. So he's got his bike. We do have some gear. I just thought we could ride both and that would just kind of like everyone from OU would understand. And what I've realized is they don't, they're not understanding that. Yeah. We just, here's, here's my point. We got to get some crimson, which was on me. Let's do it. Yeah, I want a bucket hat. And I want more t-shirts for me. And just to level set, when we set up the theater downstairs, what do we have? Top left corner?

22:49Texas. Top right? Texas helmet. Top right corner? OU helmet. So we're supporting those sides. Texas coasters, OU coasters. So, yeah. No, no, no. Honey, you have done a very good job repping OU with me. my point is yesterday on the inter-wide web i posted the outfits of the house and there we needed to fix them i would go as far to say maybe we need to change for games maybe we need to have an ou outfit for the 11 o 'clock and by seven we're in our texas gear yeah i'm happy to okay maybe we'll do more of that i'm happy to what was your saturday morning suggestion okay thank you jules moving on killed this uh my to the point of support we're gonna bring it all in here okay 11 o 'clock michigan ou so what what do i suggest well harrison he was like we're gonna watch this game we're gonna run we're gonna ride for ou big time let's cook a massive feast and invite um a couple families over and let's watch the games and and eat a big breakfast and have the kids run around.

23:55But the neighbors are better cooked than we are. So we went and got the groceries and took it to their house. Minor pivot. Minor pivot. Excels at breakfast. He is such a good cook. He's a very good, there's a couple of pieces to it. He's a very good cutter. And he has very good dishes. Like he has a cast iron that is, it's so big, it goes across like two of the heat plates. And so when he goes and makes his breakfast potatoes, he can just put so much more in there. Okay. So I think if you're looking for things to do as a parent on a Saturday morning, 10 o 'clock breakfast, invite two other families over and have the games on in the background, buffet style, we did um make your own breakfast tacos eggs sausage bacon cheese avocado okay yeah just all the toppings is good there all the traditional breakfast foods yep just and some people breakfast some people were making breakfast bowls some people were making tacos i have a i have a bicker of the week for you guys on this topic let's go what do you guys think about eating non-breakfast food for breakfast okay yesterday i had pork chops and rice it's a hungover move that's what i think about it what it's a hungover move to eat non-breakfast food for breakfast you wake up and you smash a burger or pizza for breakfast it's because you're hungover i'm not talking about a burger or pizza like this morning i had a quarter of a um caba bob's burrito for breakfast i thought it was gonna be sushi that's a hungover move just don't drink I know that.

25:41But like if you're asking me, what do I, if I hear someone smashes a burrito, half a burrito for breakfast, I'm like, oh, they had a big Saturday night. I'm fine with the burrito. I'm fine with the pork chop and rice. I think it's an insane move. I think sushi's the question. Like sushi for breakfast, that doesn't feel right to me. But they do that in Japan all the time. So here's my thing. If I have something that's not a breakfast item for breakfast, it kind of ruins my day. What? Like come lunch, I'm like, this is boring. This is a boring food day. I love the food group of breakfast being at breakfast.

26:14I get so excited for eggs in the morning. The other thing, and I just saw Greg was posting about this and the power of like simplifying your food routine. That's me. Same meal. Doing that with breakfast where you can just hammer out amazing, clean, high protein foods, eggs sausage like avocado done i'll have sweet potato and chicken for breakfast that is interesting sweet potato and whatever meat that i have that's a wild move my friends are just like they're do your friends do that too no no they're yelling at me for eating random food for breakfast these days yeah i think like a toast an egg but why do you think that i think there's like seven foods that are breakfast foods bacon i think jules is making a good point here They're like, why does an egg have to be for breakfast?

27:08I think that there was some marketing once upon a time, probably. No, she's right. Like, eggs could go anywhere in the day. Yeah, like, do you guys not eat eggs for dinner? I mean, I love a breakfast for dinner. But see, look, I'm calling you breakfast. It was our fourth date.

27:22Okay. Where did we go? I made you breakfast at your apartment. Oh, he did. And we did art. I thought we did board games. We did. To connect for. Which is not really a board game. A game. Jules I agree with you I think it's a phenomenal point uh but there are certain things in life that I subscribe to and eating eggs every day in the morning is one of them okay like I love it I love it if I yeah if I didn't like that I would move it like you're moving you're you're putting sweet potatoes and chicken in the morning like if I wanted to do that I would and if I did that I would like maybe eat eggs for dinner I do all the time okay guys here's a fun one Jules did not apply for a job here.

28:04There was no job. She just emailed me pitching herself for a role that did not exist. And then she followed up and then she followed up again. And I think somewhere around 10 emails deep, I was finally like, okay, this person clearly wants it. And now she like runs, I call her half of my brain. She runs half of my life. It's been really cute because she, we've started to ask her, like in the mornings we'll ask her, what do you want to do? Wait. What? We already talked about all this. I'm so glad that you did that and not me. This has been happening to me a lot since weaning. So much so, Jules, that I almost showered twice last night. So I got in bed last night and I had my pajamas on and I was like, oh my gosh, I didn't shower? And then I was like, yes, you did.

29:55Wow. I know. I think it's a weaning thing. I'm pretty sure because it's directly correlated with that. Yeah. I know. Interesting. So. All right. Let's move into some topics, shall we? Do we want to move into some topics? Yeah. I had one other thing that I'm blanking on, but let's get on to the topics. Well, what do you think you're blanking on? You're going on your trip. We got Tate's birthday this week. I think it was the 10 o 'clock breakfast suggestion. Okay. It was a Saturday morning activity. Okay. Okay. You're not weaning, so you're not allowed to forget that. Yeah, that's such a good point, Jules.

30:35Thank you for that. All right. Do we want to do Pokemon cards? It's a Harrison News topic. It's an H-bomb. I mean, this was a Julie bomb, so. Well, it's in the Harrison News category. Jules shared this one. So, Jules, give it to us. Who is AJ Scaramucci? Anthony Scaramucci's son. Okay, so he bought Logan Paul's Pokemon card for$16 million because he treats collectibles as alternative assets. He's predicting that cards will become, they'll be worth$50 to$100 million soon. The headline from this also was Pokemon cards have apparently outpaced the S &P 500 by 3 ,000 % in the last 20 years.

31:23um so my question i guess we can go back my question i one wanted to hear if he had anything on this but two like what what are we saving that rocky has right now that's going to be worth 16 million dollars in 20 years okay if i had to guess okay there's a lot of of inaccuracies within that statement okay let's do it let's let's talk through what they are hold on i should tell the story. Yesterday, Tate and I were at the coffee shop and I ran into Olivia's husband and Kyle and his mom and Suede and we were outside talking. And I felt just like this jab in my foot and I looked down and there was a bee stuck on it.

32:02And I was just like, Kyle, because I didn't want to freak out in front of Tate. I was just like, Kyle, you're going to have to get the bee out of my foot. And he pulled out the bee and then he looked down and he was like, the stinger still stuck and I need to pull the stinger. I was fine until last night. My foot swelled up so bad I could hardly walk. Oh, no. And now it's itching like crazy. Do you think you're slightly allergic to bees? No, I just think it's the venom. Right? I don't know. Oh, but once you itch it once, ow, it's like puffy and red and hot. It's just crazy that a bee can do that to you.

32:35Yeah, I've never been sung by a bee. Oh, it's my second time. It's the worst. It's actually not the worst. It's fine. Yeah. Just kind of have to like move on. okay great all right um so what what are the inaccuracies in this football card pokemon card go uh

32:57are have certain cards outperform the s &p 500 yes have certain cards like drastically underperform the s &p 500 absolutely so on average you think it's going to be less I'm saying like, so I think these Charizard cards are huge. Charizard, remember? Were you in Pokemon, Harrison? Yeah, I mean, everyone kind of growing up has their phase. I would think it very much was a part of my life as it is to most teenage boys. So if you own that card, the returns are financial. But if you owned, you know, the basic... Jigglypuff? Jigglypuff, then you're toast. And not to mention, you had to buy it and you had to keep it in mint condition.

33:46And there are a whole bunch of things you need to do to generate that return versus the S &P 500. You're just clicking and buying an ETF. I guess I guess - Plus, there's so many ways to dissect that. So where I understand buying something and it gaining value is like art, for example. I really understand that. It was painted. It's beautiful. It's framed. It's displayed. It's an art form, quite literally. Like that I can wrap my head around. These little cards. It's all supply demand. That's a tough one for me. Watches, jewelry. I kind of can understand that as well. Supply demand. Friday, my friend was talking about that she did her senior thesis on alternative assets.

34:35Talked about Birkin bags. They're apparently like they appreciate the second you buy them, I guess. I don't know. I understand that too, though. I personally haven't really messed around with alternative assets other than crypto. And the main driver of that is I find them very hard to value when you look at the sheer underlying fundamentals of them. it's like you can when you buy a stock you can value the company through its future earnings yeah there's a currency a real currency so this company makes um a hundred dollars a year and it trades at 10 times those earnings so if you own it for 10 years and all else stays equal you'll get your money back in 10 years right versus with a lot of alternatives And what alternatives, that's also like kind of a, so many things fit in the bucket of alternatives.

35:39So now we're, we should, we actually need to clarify collectibles because I mess around a lot in alternatives. Collectibles I don't play around with because yeah, like I, I find it very hard to value them from a fundamental perspective. and it feels like so much of it is like understanding momentum and the pop culture dynamics and and i'm just not in in the loop of that but people make a lot of money on them just cars for example yeah that's i'm just i don't mess i don't i don't mess with that but some people do and some people make a lot of money doing it some people lose a lot of money so he's predicting he's saying i'm gonna buy a pokemon card for 16 million assuming he can sell it for 50 to 100 yeah so what i know about or what i've what i read about who would want to buy a 50 million card who would want to buy a 16 million dollar card that it's a card uh so i think what he's doing is he's creating a fund or a company and they collect um you know the most rare uh the most rare assets that just because they printed one card like what if i print one of something That's the only one of those.

36:53No supply. No demand, I mean. No demand. There you go. Very interesting. La Boo Boo. I wonder if that kind of had a thing. That kind of had a. And I think the challenge with La Boo Boo is with supply. Too much supply. Ah. So is there anything going on right now that people are liking? Well, sports collectibles are having a moment. Baseball cards? cards in general having a moment but the moment you bend it it loses like so much value yeah do you know what else though i find interesting like okay dolly parton her guitar you know was worth x now it's worth so much more like picasso same thing these people they die and it everything that they had and touched rises in value yeah i don't i don't think i don't know if i have anything insightful overly insightful to say here other than i really don't understand the pricing mechanisms of collectibles and that's why i don't play around with them uh because like i'll see something like princess diana do you know about her revenge dress i'm sure you do i know exactly what it is when she was born on july 1st same so i saw that her revenge dress is being auctioned off right how much is being auctioned off for um i think that they're estimating it going for two to three hundred thousand dollars oh that's like so much less than i would have thought that was my point compared to a pokemon card and why are they auctioning it because the people who bought it um they bought it somebody already owns it somebody bought it at a she auctioned it off at a charity auction a couple bought it one of the couples uh died and the lady said the time just felt right okay so she's gonna auction it off yeah but she got it for 65 000 the person that got it and they're gonna make 150 300 000 pretty nice that's good but when did she buy it she bought a pokemon card over that time i assume it'll be a lot more 1997 so if we adjust for inflation yeah how much is she making i don't know not much yeah long story short i i think it's cool that that what are we asking me i don't know i just wondered if you i think it's cool that he's doing this i think that um this is an area of the world that a lot of people are super passionate about uh i don't personally mess around with it because i find it very hard to to um to understand the pricing mechanisms of them and i feel like it's an insider's game and i'm not on the inside so i don't i don't mess with that and if you bought a 16 million dollar card where would you keep it in a vault or displayed on your desk in a glass box i assume that all these things are secured in very very are stored in very very secure places not in france not in france there you go can i watch the video of the girl pooping or no no okay all right so let's discuss let's do a little ai update because there's been some discourse and we we've discussed this over and over again you know there's some people are scared at xyz the guy left anthropic yeah um i did see a very funny video about that which was just like get a journal like we've all like don't be a whistle like don't be a whistleblower now and like we've already been you know blowing the whistle and like you have stock options for this and like we're all scared of it and like you're just like see ya you made me laugh look at that good joke okay the initial post was oh we must pace the frontier uh yeah so the founder of Anthropic released a blog post and he called for the slowing down of AI.

40:40He called for a self-regulating authority. So essentially saying that he's going to give an independent third party employee level access to ensure that Anthropic is holding certain safety standards. And that's a massive statement shortly after him making that. And sorry, if this wasn't clear, He wrote a blog post talking about AI safety and concern. Okay. In response to everything that's going on this week? I think that it's been a long time coming. He's been talking about this for a long time. Okay. But this is a big blog post for a magnitude of reasons. One, him specifically calling out the concerns.

41:32secondarily him calling for third-party monitoring of what they're doing um and so that they hold a certain standard and then third is there's a big rivalry amongst all the ai companies between elon dario and sam altman and all of them have come together so sam altman retweeted and elon retweeted this blog post saying that they're all in agreement and open And AI said that they're going to hold themselves to they're going to they're going to follow the same path on on letting a third party independent independent third party come in and monitor what they're doing. Well, what's interesting about this is the way that they're just like so casually retweeting it like Elon's like Dario's right.

42:23Like it sounds like these are conversations they've been having and they're all abreast on. and it's funny what they they forget sometimes i think to make public so then like dario goes and tweets it and they're all like yeah i've been talking about that for a week like they just they're they're catching us up to speed which i think probably makes everyone feel good to know yes but this could have some some massive

42:48massive effects on the ecosystem why like what

42:54um it's very rare to see the ceo of you know the biggest most disruptable company come out and talk negatively and talk about the risks to what they're doing in such a big public way um yeah because it is it is kind of crazy to be like you know there's so many examples of companies that i feel like are full steam ahead and more like that's a little scary and for him to even be like it is a little and so what this could do is this could cool down a lot of the investor excitement around ai and you could see it um hurting uh different publicly traded companies that that you know play into the ai theme you can see it hurting the startup ecosystem this just isn't something you typically see, which I think speaks to the validity of the safety concerns of AI.

43:52T. Yeah. T. How about that? Okay. I'm going to move this along because, you know, I can only take so much of the AI. There's nothing we can do about it, you know? Like, it just kind of is what it is, but that is interesting to know that they would - Just trust that it'll all work out. It's interesting that they are saying they're going to pump the brakes. They're calling for regulation. Yeah. Yeah. All right. Stretching before exercise does not prevent injury. This is like silly. Yes, it does. Okay, a 2014 meta-analysis, which Jules has informed us, means a lot of analysis, not just one research paper, but it means a combination of them.

44:25It means many studies found the same thing. Of 26 ,610 participants in the British Journal of Sports Medicine found that stretching had no effect on injury rates at all. Strength training cut injuries by a third. yeah i just you can't tell me you don't need to warm up simply put i mean you do need to warm up like if i went right now and just started sprinting i think i would have a high likelihood of pulling a muscle yes yeah i just i do okay they are saying stretching they're not saying warming up i maybe stretching doesn't have anything to do with it yeah i uh what it's saying is the reason stretching fails is that it addresses the wrong problem a muscle tear happens when a muscle is asked to produce more force than it can handle this is kind of like we were talking about with the phone screens okay all right here here is where i'm gonna have this make sense to me okay because i feel like we've seen a whole bunch of stuff about like pilates and pilates and injury reduction Yeah.

45:36And I think the point there is, is when you're strengthening your muscles, like I think that there's a confusion between stretching and strengthening. And Pilates is strengthening. And Pilates is strengthening. Your access muscles. And so that as such is why you're reducing the injury rate. And it's not the actual stretching mechanism, which has less of an effect that people think. like this whole you know grab and pull your leg up before you work out like that isn't what is moving the needle what's moving the needle is all the work you're doing before that makes me feel better though does that like that would allow this to make sense to me because at face value i totally agree with you yeah okay i guess when you get underneath the hood of this statement maybe it does actually make sense i feel better if i stretch and warm up simply put but yeah maybe it doesn't matter if i'm actually stretching the muscle but warming up is different than stretching.

46:35I agree with that. I think we need to get the blood, the blood flowing is important. Like the whole, this whole like bending over, touching your toes thing. You're telling me that if you're telling me that that doesn't do much, that does make sense. But I think flexibility is still important, but they're saying it's not important to not tearing a muscle. No? Yes. Flexibility still has to be important in some way. Yes. But I think flexibility's importance is what they're saying is it's in performance as opposed to injury rate. And it's just different than everything we were told from like our gym teachers and our coaches.

47:13Yeah, like you still need a stretch, but you need a stretch for different reasons than you'd think. Yes, okay. That's a good summary. Yeah, fine with that. I can live with that. I say that with a 35 % understanding of what I read. Okay. So roast me on it. All right, things we DMed. Nori Minich has She just sent me an inspirational quote And she said please read this to Alex I think she would like to hear it Thanks Nori You guys should start calling her Calling her what? Nor, that's what my friends call her Just to like play with her a little bit Hey Nor You know where Nor Dog's from? Nor Dog I think the hangover I know a lot of quotes in that Where's that at in there?

47:58Nor Dog Let's google that What part? The dentist guy. The hangover? I love him so much. Stan, Steve, oh my God. Stu, Stu, hello. It's not coming up immediately. It's not. That movie has so many good one lines. Nordog, at what point would they say Nordog?

48:27I guess not. I mean, I, I, yeah, I don't know. Maybe somebody will know. Yeah. Sound off in the comments if you have any idea. And sorry if you don't like this, but I'm doing what my mom tells me, which is what I try and do. Okay. I've never met a mother who needed unsolicited advice about what she's doing wrong. But every mother I've met absolutely needed unsolicited acknowledgement about what she's doing right. That. Oh, good job, Nori. I completely agree and I think that it makes the bigger impact I was around a lot of moms yesterday and everyone was being like very complimentary very uplifting to each other and that's just what that kind of behavior is what makes you want to be around people I saw a video this morning it says hot people compliment successful people support something else something else and then just i would love the people you don't want to hang out with yeah they're they're like ragging on you they're they're negative it's just like you have two options i agree when you run into a mom giving her a compliment will go so much further than giving her a critique so yes nori yeah that's really good energy especially because i feel like the critiques are in parenting are so often like not applicable to your child totally like nine out of ten times what worked for you isn't gonna work for us and vice versa like she needs to sit like she doesn't want to and she's actually doing a really good job right now so move move it along you know or my favorite you don't tell her no enough it's like actually i do and whenever i do say it she listens to my no i i'm i'm so with nori cool i i have another thing um do you know what you what you um have taught me so much about what is often i think about when i'm communicating with tate am i using language alex would be using oh that's really nice you're so good with your words and making sure you're using words that she can understand yeah like today you wanted her to get your shoes and you're like can you please go get dada's black shoes and it's just like shoes black shoes first and then color second yeah and then but we'll know what we would like you know and at breakfast there was a situation as well um okay so i i was like i say i say i'm sorry too much like i say it as a filler and our friend maggie was like okay this is my challenge replace i'm sorry with thank you so instead of like i'm sorry i'm late you just go thank you for being so patient great great suggestion maggie it's a great suggestion because i was joking like tate's like sorry and i'm like oh man it's it's for me like i say it too much as do i and so she was like let's let's do a challenge here where you swap the word for thank you the biggest time bobber saying sorry is whenever she bumps into so she notices that we say sorry when we're like moving in and out of the way whenever bobber bumps into anything she's saying sorry harris has your hand up tate's canadian is ed you think they say sorry a lot that's like that's what canadians do sorry sorry it's the only thing i know about canadians she ran into okay so we got a we got a shipment yesterday and it was a very big box and i was unboxing it and she ran into it and she was like i'm so sorry she said she didn't say sorry she was like sorry sorry and then she kept touching it was like sorry and i was like this is adorable but the box is fine the box is okay so i do think it's i and so i've been trying to do it where instead of saying sorry i'll say thank you it's a nice little switch up it is good good call out maggie um okay guys we've got a lot of fun things on the docket this week and we're gonna do a dr ari episode on wednesday so submit your questions because we're gonna get lots of info from her obviously we always do very very upset to be missing that yeah those episodes are like they're one of my favorites because we learn so much.

52:39People have specifically asked if we can talk about cold and flu season. 100 % going into that. Oh, yeah, let's do that. Okay. And we love you guys. Have a great week. Is that it? Kind of. Really? Yeah, flew by, didn't it? Want to know one more thing for us? Do one more thing. You guys got to come off of it from the head. Okay. That was all the things. all right let's let's talk about it off the top off the dome here um i don't i uh i'm thinking shows i'm thinking finished my martha documentary so i watched the martha stewart documentary what a girl what do you know what put her back on the on the radar going to prison no oh no where did she where did she light her flame with snoop where did they kindle i have no idea justin bieber roast so she goes to prison she has the billion dollar company it's over a billion dollars because it's starting to go in like kmart was the big one okay and back then very few companies upstarts as well like we're valued at a billion dollars i feel like today like companies get that that um you're hearing a company's value of a billion dollars is a pretty common occurrence back then that wasn't a big thing and very few women or so that was very rare i want to say i want to say at the time she was saying she was saying she was the first self-made billionaire woman i don't know if that's true or not but that's what she's saying in the documentary anyways then she then she gets um copper insider trading then she goes to jail She made a lot of friends in jail.

54:25How long was she in jail? Five months. 150 days. Jail for her, I think, is a turning point because she had to let go of perfection. So at that point, her mentality very much so seems to be, what did she have to lose? She had to sell her company afterwards. She sold it for pennies on the dollar. And her big issue was, so how did she end up in jail for insider trading? she it was also she she did it and then she lied about it yes her her best friend or one of her good friends you know had the um company i've no idea what let's call it some company and she lands in cabo yeah um and she's with her one of her best friends her best friend she gets a phone call she's like yeah sure go ahead sell it sell it yeah that makes sense sell it she says her stockbroker someone called her and said like hey it looks like these are trending down i'm gonna i'm gonna sell okay she's like okay sell it great her best friend testified saying i just said verbatim what she said which was isn't it so nice to have people that will tell you those things that's what that's the line her best friend remembers so they're saying either so her best friend turned on her yes yes and testified against her um so she's claiming her innocence in the insider trading yes but her she she's claiming her innocence but she's very just like yeah didn't like no she's not getting into it too much she's just telling it exactly how she remembered she thought it was no big deal thought everything was going to be fine and then like before she knows she goes to prison um the other thing that happened though was the the uh the the administrative assistant kind of admits to making the phone call being like they they told me to tell her lawyers yeah or they told me to tell i gotta say like my assumption is that there's probably some more to it well whatever she got she when she served her time for it yeah so they got her on it okay and she sent she spent she serves her 150 days in prison she gets out and it's very hard for her to make her come back from what i'm understanding and you know was she like one of the first people to ever really be canceled in a way probably yeah um so she goes she's kind of irrelevant as they call it for a couple years yeah and her publicist calls one day because bieber was having his hard time remember do you remember he was really young at the time and they did a comedy central roast kevin hart did um host it and she sat up there beside Snoop Dogg.

57:03Yeah. And she sat by him for seven hours. He's smoking joints the whole time. So she's like secondhand high. She goes up there and she's like, they want me to give you some pointers, Justin, because you're inevitably at this pace, you're going to wind up in prison. Yeah. And she's like, and you won't last. And like she roasts everyone on stage. I've seen this roast. It's 10 out of 10 good. She was really, really, really good. Her and Snoop were talking and Snoop was like, I just knew like if I was around Martha, like she was going to elevate my presence too. like she's just a girl that you know get anyways they start their show together and from there she just she makes her comeback she understands social media um and so she's back oh yeah she was sports illustrated like oh that's great that's great yeah she's like i googled it i was like all right what's she worth now she she was supposed to be worth like you know hundreds of billion not hundreds of billions tens of billions is what they say in the documentary says she's worth like 400 million now not a bad place to be not bad um and you know what i think she's at peace with herself because i actually they had a very good line about what prison did for her but it made her drop her perfection lens and she realized she was human and i think they did a lot of good things for her oh okay that was that was what i was looking for she's a real kick-ass like she's tough you can tell she's tough um here's the other thing okay that i'm gonna kind of pivot okay

58:31we so we we went on a date night we did and it is amazing and and it may sound so obvious how necessary they are and how good they are for your relationship because while we spend so much time together during the day and whether it's with tate and rocket man or doing this like when you and i sit down one-on-one across the table from each other it forces us to have conversations that i think are very good for our family and very good for our relationship I completely agree. And I know we were tired and we, you know, almost pushed it off, but I'm really happy we did it. And I want us to both hold ourselves accountable to doing date night more consistently.

59:24Cause I think it's very good. I think it's very good for us. I agree. We love to do bedtime, put tape to bed and then go. And I just, I agree. We, I just like threw on a dress. We went, it was fun. We had great food and we just chatted and we put our phones up and it was lovely. Yeah, I agree. It is, it's, it's tough to prioritize, but there's a reason people keep saying time and time again, prioritize it. Yeah. Like there is a reason they do. And even if you think, no, I don't need it. We don't need it. Just go. It unlock, it just, it unlocks a different type of conversation for us. And so I just want to call it out, put it into the ether that, um, that I, I loved our date night.

1:00:02I want to keep doing them. Yeah, me too. I did love it. Um, all right. We love you guys. Thank you for listening. Thank you for listening. This week on Two Parents & A Podcast, happy Monday!! (we recorded this Sunday afternoon but still HAPPY MONDAY!) We open with Harrison's freak accident: he caught a falling glass, the glass did not cooperate, and now his hand is out of commission. Alex's 10:40 PM response ("you can Uber to the stitches..") will haunt her forever hahaha. Harrison’s first thought: thank goodness this didn’t happen before HYROX…  And in HYROX news that we cannot believe is real: POOP-GATE. A competitor at the Beijing race had an.. incident.. mid-race and was allowed to finish, and we have genuine rules questions (you get disqualified for dropping a GEL on the course??)

Then the home front: a toilet learning follow up (yes, we are absolutely pranking the neighbors with the official terminology), and the sweetest new phase: Tate is starting to APPRECIATE things 🥹 We asked her what she wanted to do and she thought about it and said gymnastics.. watching her actually love something is a whole new level of this. Plus the burnt orange feedback is IN (we hear you, we live here, the kids were born here!!), and Saturday's blueprint: 10 AM breakfast, two families over, games on in the background. Which sparked the debate: is non-breakfast food for breakfast genius or psycho?! (Jules eats sweet potato and chicken at 8 AM. Harrison thinks there are seven breakfast foods and that's that.) Then Alex shares the weaning brain fog nobody warned her about.. when you genuinely cannot remember if you showered, you're not losing it, it's hormones!!!

And Harrison's corner: Pokemon cards have reportedly outpaced the S&P 500 over 20 years?! Harrison breaks down why that’s not exactly accurate (and why we shouldn’t all be rushing out to by Jigglypuff cards lol) Plus an AI update: the rival CEOs all publicly agreed to pace development.. which never happens, and might tell you something.

Then a bit of self improvement: stretching doesn't prevent injuries?! (A 26,000-person analysis says strength training is what actually cuts injury risk.. everything our gym teachers told us is on trial.) The compliment vs. critique rule we're adopting: no mom needs unsolicited advice, every mom needs unsolicited acknowledgment. And do you say "I'm sorry" too much? Our friend's challenge: replace it with THIS, and watch what happens.

We close with the 'Martha' review (the Martha Stewart / Snoop origin story!! spoilers, but like.. this happened 20 years ago lol) and why we're recommitting to date night.

Hope everyone has a great week :-) LOVE YOU GUYS!
