In short

Parenting and lifestyle talk focused on makeup habits, whether men notice makeup, left-handedness (nature vs nurture), and “etiquette” debates like bringing iced coffee to job interviews. They also discuss postpartum weaning effects, skincare/eye patches for toddlers, TV pop culture (Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, Dancing with the Stars), and quick business/finance takes (Home Depot stock performance).

Guests

The episode is hosted by two parents, Jules and Harrison (plus recurring co-host/partner voices). Specific guest identities beyond their roles aren’t clearly stated in the transcript.

Key claims

  • Makeup is optional; the hosts argue men often don’t notice small changes (“blind spot”).
  • Left-handedness is debated; one host suggests 80% nature/20% nurture, and another argues writing direction and tech trends may influence outcomes.
  • Corporations shouldn’t disqualify candidates for bringing iced coffee; it symbolizes “attitude” and workplace culture.

Notable examples

  • Toddler eye patches are described as cold, de-puffing, and hydrating.
  • A “concierge mom” service for college students costs about $1,600 for four years of support.
  • Dancing with the Stars: Whitney’s partner/placement and Guillermo “snuck through” to week two; group watch/texting is recommended.

3:17And did she do eye patches? No, I was thinking of someone different. Oh, I don't know. Of the kid. Oh, Everly. The actual child launched it. I don't know how that did. But now, did Shay and Rachel do kid eye patches? Yes. Because I've noticed Bubba wants to put on my eye patches until I do give them to her, and then she really doesn't want to wear them anymore. Like, when I put them on, she was like, off. Off. I saw that happen the other day. Well, they feel... You do not like them on her face. I love those eye patches, but I could imagine, as a two-year-old, they feel a little slimy on your face.

3:52Yeah, she's like, ass. She's like, off. Potato? Potato? She's like, off, off. What do those eye patches do? Make you feel good. I think they de-puff and hydrate. You have to realize they're cold. Like, I keep them in the refrigerator. They feel incredible. And how does it land to you that as a guy, there's two parts of my routine, and that is brushing teeth and deodorant? Yeah, it's lovely. Well, that's what they say. That's why guys have to pay for the date. Because in order for me to go on to a date, I have to do my hair and makeup and spend all the money on all that stuff. We just got another really good one of these things of how it started that we learned at Bubber's birthday.

4:47The reason why X is the way it is is because we got an amazing one of these. I don't know, but I kind of said that facetiously. I don't think that's actually why. Wait, what? Can you welcome us really quick? Welcome back to another episode of Two Parents in a Podcast. This, the following production, is a dear media. What is it? Podcast. The following production is a dear - No, the following podcast. The following podcast is a dear media production. Yeehaw. This is going to drive me nuts. We learned a great thing. Learned. Learned a great thing on the history of why something is the way it is. I feel like it's from my dad.

5:29I remember this. Come on. There's nothing worse than listening to people not be able to remember something. Did we put it in the group chat? No. Okay, then we got to move on. Hopefully it'll come up because I agree. All right. So Jules, explain this to us. What did you say facetiously? That like the reason that a man pays for a date would be because like the woman has to put all the time and money and effort into her outfit, into her makeup, into her hair. And like he just had to brush his teeth. It's true. You don't even wash your face and your face always looks nice. But I'm a believer. I'm actually I'm not even going to say it.

6:08That if you don't wash your face from a young age, then you never have to wash your face. Same thing with lotion. I don't know about that. I think it's very actually it's a bit nature versus nurture, but not. It's more like you're born with dry skin or you're not like I was like I have dry skin. I just do. Yes, I have dry skin. My hands are very, very dry. So I need lotion. And I don't think that's because I wore lotion when I was little. I think it's because I have dry skin. I think some people have dry skin. I could maybe get on the face washing thing because you can train your hair. If you can train your hair, you got to be able to train other parts of your body.

6:43If you can change your hair and you can change your clothes. How often do you guys get zits? You can change your clothes. What? How often do you get zits? I'm not super acne prone. I think women are more acne prone though in general because of hormones. Yeah, I get hormonal breakouts when I stopped pumping. Like I noticed, by the way, can I give a stop pumping update? Yeah. I was going to say. You were going to ask. I'm feeling really good. Yeah. Feeling good. Like feel really. Yeah. I was in the trenches for a while there and I feel like I haven't had this. Dare I use the word control? I felt like when I was pumping or when I was pregnant little things would feel really big and I knew that it was probably hormones or anxiety or something and I'm feeling like I'm starting to be able to grasp that grasp things a bit more things are feeling a little less overwhelming you know what energy is a big one having a lot more energy like if I go if I only get five hours of sleep like i i can function i noticed a huge change and it felt like the peak of the transition was when i walked into the room i don't know maybe a week and a half ago and you're in bed and you're just so defeated because you just read that like that the uh transition pump weaning off of pumping weaning could um could affect people for up to two weeks No, they were saying one to three weeks.

8:28One to three weeks. And you were just like, you were so demoralized, if that is the right word. Yeah, it was sad. I was just like, oh, this is - And I was like, Alex, like, sorry? Well, the only way out is through. So I was like, if it's three weeks, it's three weeks. And one thing I've noticed with me in pregnancy is like, I get the - But no, it didn't feel like in that case. It felt like a couple of days later, things had - Yeah. Like if morning sickness can be one month or nine months, I get nine. Yes. But in this case, yeah, I did - But some people wean off and they have no side effects. I wean off.

8:59I did have side effects, but I had the shorter side of side effects, which was lovely. So anyways, feeling good there. And you know what I did today? What? What did I do when you were at our house, Jules? It happened around lunchtime. You did a pantry purge? No. Had to do with eating. You ate? Made my meal. took my because what have i not been allowed to do for the past 12 months use my food it's not like i go to the store and buy my own food but i definitely have my items like you have your sausage and breakfast legs and i have my kevin's chicken i'm obsessed with kevin's chicken you have you and and rightfully so and understandably so there are the items that i order that you have full access to your requested items i have not had access to in over a year i cannot eat your items if i eat your bread i i get get in trouble if i eat your kevin's i get in trouble and and we were talking about how you're done weaning and you're back at it and i saw that kevin's in there and boom bottom of my stomach i think the problem eight minutes later you made the whole thing Oh, yeah.

10:16I've been waiting for that for months. And how good is it? It's very good. Okay, so this is not an ad because I don't even know who makes Kevin's. Besides, I'm sure his name is Kevin. But they sell it at the grocery store right by our house. It's Target. Whole Foods. I am so obsessed with this stuff. It's dairy-free and takes me five minutes to make it. So here's what I know about Kevin's just from the CPG ordeal. And Jules is going to pull this up to confirm. Do you know Kevin? I don't know Kevin. But to my understanding, Kevin's is a success story in our industry. Okay. And it's behind them.

10:53The reason why there's nothing else really like it on the market is because they built their own facility. Oh. So, and I believe they've actually sold. To Mars. Pardon? To Mars. Okay. So in our industry, if you really want to innovate, chances are you're going to need to build your own plant. Because if you go to a manufacturer that makes other people's products, then typically they're going to kind of keep you in a box as to the types of things they're already making. Okay. Go ahead. Yeah. Co-founder Kevin McRae noted that owning and investing in their own manufacturing infrastructure early on allowed the company to control quality, scale rapidly, and navigate supply chain disruptions through the pandemic.

11:46Wow. And let me tell you what. You walk by this - But that's way easier said than done. It costs a lot of money. I'm sure. To build your own plant. There's a ton of operational complexity. So to do it successfully is amazing. The placement they have at the stores is unbelievable. You're just like, I have to buy that. It's sous vide. I can't say that word. Sous vide. Yeah, it's sous vide. The chicken is sous vide. That's different, right? Yeah. I don't know. It tastes so good and it's dairy free. It's paleo. It's so good. This episode is brought to you by Honest. Between Rocky and Tate, we are going through all kinds of wipes right now all day long.

12:18And you guys know we're really paying extra attention right now to the things that touch our kids skin multiple times a day. And that's where honest comes in honest created baby essentials made for life's most delicate skin honest holds every product to the highest standard the honest standard they're intentional about every ingredient they put in and every one that they leave out their products are hypoallergenic and dermatologist tested we've talked about on this podcast over and over again how harrison and i read labels on everything and with honest we don't have to second guess anything that saves me from standing in the store forever.

12:53Reading the back of the ingredients list is a huge win for me. So from their clean, conscious wipes to their two-in-one shampoo plus body wash, every product is designed for the delicate details that matter most. Honest, the mother of all standards. Shop Honest on Amazon, Walmart, and Target. Honest, the mother of all standards. Shop Honest on Amazon, Walmart, and Target. Okay. This is something that I do want to discuss on this nature versus nurture with the skin that's come up is being left-handed or right-handed nature versus nurture. And do you know what I think it is? Let's hear. 80-20. 80-20 what?

13:32I think it's 80 nature 20 nurture. I think you're born most likely going to be right-handed but if your parents keep making you use your left, you might go over to your left. I think ambidextrous is you're born with it. Well, we were talking about this because where's the finger? 80 % what? Nature. Nature, nature, nature. 80 % nature. 80 % born with it. 20 % learned. Okay, thank you. So obviously this came out because Bubber's trying to do a lot more things and the conversation was around like, is your kid left-handed, is your kid right-handed? And so I looked this up and I didn't find anything overly concrete on it.

14:18But what I did, the general theme I saw was people attribute it more to you're born with it versus it's nurture. As I reflect on it, and one of the things that I saw pointed to is if you look across different parts of the world, the ratio is generally the same. It's like 10 % of people are left-handed. I'm not buying it. I think it's a lot more nurture. no I actually don't think it is because I I would assume coordination so okay because coordination is also nature you're born like some people are born super coordinated yes but there's nurture there's nurture involved practice I have a theory on this okay okay I have a theory of what tips to scale and why people think it is nurture of why people think it's nature over nurture okay why Bit of a tongue twister.

15:16How do we write? Right hand. Well, left to right. Okay. And if you write left to right with your right hand, what happens? You smudge. Oh, you don't smudge. You don't smudge. If you write left to right with your left hand. Smudge. What happens? Smudge. you smudge the ink so my theory is okay that we start learning really young we start learning with our right that is what tilts the scale to people being right-handed and my where where i'm gonna where i'm gonna go on this because god forbid i have a theory without ai is now that we're becoming more and more tech enabled and people are not learning or writing is becoming a less important part of society, and I guess it's not AI, it's computers, that we're going to see more left-handed people in the world.

16:14Okay. I'm going to take your theory one step further and say no. I think that just more people happen to be right-handed, and I don't know why, and that's why we write from left to right. I feel like you discounted your own theory by saying that the ratio across all parts of the world is like 1090. because there are parts of the world where people write right to left and so shouldn't their ratio be flipped i think that the mass majority of people write left to right because there are more right-handed people so i think that there was right like hunter and gatherers had a preferential hand they just did i'm assuming maybe they were all ambidextrous but i think that they were probably there you go there's a there's an internet debate for you so let us know left hand versus right hand nature versus nurture i do think though i could train my hand to be like i cut my i am i play pool and i cut stakes with my left hand so i'm like sort of ambidextrous but not really and i do think i could train my hand to right my left hand to right yes i do think i could do that but i think that there's we'd have to look more into it maybe we could do it on the next episode but there's like cognitive effects when you try and force your child that's left-handed to be right-handed like i think it can cause the and the reason i am bringing this up is because one of my friends they were born left-handed forced to be right-handed and then someone asked them something once like oh was that did that happen to you because they have like a stutter and like there there's things that get messed up and can get messed up in your brain i guess i'm saying this without knowing so you're wow no i'm sure your wires can get crossed so So that actually furthers my point.

18:05You are born a certain way with it right or left-handed. I think that that's what consensus would tell you. I'm a contrarian here. Okay, we'll look a little more into it though. Because I don't want to be saying the wrong thing there. But I do see how if you were supposed to be right-handed, like your body wants to write with your right hand and you start trying to do your left, it's probably a different side of your brain. It's probably confusing. Yeah. Nothing worse though than making a seating chart, not knowing someone's left-handed and you got two, you got a right-handed beside a left-handed.

18:34Because growing up, if you were left-handed, you were always seated on the end at Thanksgiving, I remember. Green, very good for your eyes. Green? Yeah. You like green for my eyes? Yeah. I love when you give me a compliment. Thank you. I will wear more green. I have to buy my outfit for the panel. I know what I'm wearing. Tell us. No, no. You're wearing a black and white shirt, which is really pigeonholing me. And I want to wear, now I want to wear green. Whatever you, if you want me to dress around you, as I said, I'm happy to do that. But I need to know what you're going to wear. I have an outfit rec for you.

19:13Happy to hear, Jules. Did you see Audrey Peter's outfit that she just wore at the panel that she was at? It was like a satin blue shirt and satin brown pants. I don't think you should do that colorway, but I think that satin shirt, satin pants, I think that would look really good on you. I love this that's very businessy is that wrangly I don't know maybe she linked it I can look are her shoes YSL I don't know they have to be I don't because you know who else wears that toe your girl yeah Morgan and Ariel actually so I've seen a couple of those very very now if you guys know what I'm talking about we can put up a photo they're like the most pointed shoe like YSL really accentuated their pump and I would trip on that.

19:59Yeah. I would trip on that. So I guess we don't have, like men, we don't have male fashion influencers. There's no one you look at and you're like, I love the pants he wears. I would say it's more celebrities. Like what you just did for. Who though? For those. Jacob Elordi. But is that, do women like how Jacob Elordi dresses or are guys like, you know. Yeah, I guess who is the, who, well, we should be asking you, who is your style icon?

20:31he's making a face of the way i get inspired by style is is just what i see in the wild do you know what i'm seeing in the wild right now that's you adam sandler in europe that poor guy he walks out of his hotel and there are just everyone's filming him he looks like he's maybe been hitting the gym a lot also good for him yeah yeah he look and he just he's walking around with his wife who is just so proud of him and wearing like this big brim hat and they're both in their sweatpants but he's in like a bright he's in an aviator nation half zip with bright orange pants and like basketball shoes and tall socks he's just adorable like you can see that man coming from a mile away actually and then i engaged with one of the posts and so now all i'm getting is just adam walking around Europe and I'm like loving it.

21:19So it is, it is like the number one thing to be top of mind with when you interact with a post of, of an account that you don't follow, your feed is about to become overwhelmed with that category of content. It's so funny. It does. And I saw today actually on E! News, they posted something about, was it Secret Lives of Mormon Wives? and the most liked comment was like it because oh a lot of people were saying good thing i don't know who these people are you know like something like that yeah and the most liked comment was if you don't care don't engage like if you comment saying good thing i don't know who those people are you're about to get infiltrated with who these people are because you commented like the algorithm does not know the difference between what you comment they just know that you comment so careful with your hate comments because if you're like this is stupid well get ready for stupid to be like all over your feed so can we talk secret my lives of mormon wives secret lives of mormon wives what's going on with this secret lives secret lives of mormon wives is that is that the song jordan said it right jesse's ex-husband but like just one time ran he drives a hummer like is he 5-1 is it me is it only me that they have the most replaceable set of names like all of the names like jesse jason taylor jerry sary like jesse to me to me is the only one that like sticks out whitney taylor michaela macy it's very confusing i just i was i was watching it because you had it on and i tried to give it like seven minutes and i really couldn't tell who was who and i was just so confused that i had to i just went back to my laptop so help me help me because do I want to get into this?

23:09Do I not? So you know the one that's dating Marciano now? The one dating Marciano now has got the hair. No idea. She drives the blue Juack and she to me is the most standout. What's her name? Jessie. Like she just has, she looks the most different to me. She has Jay-Z Styles, which is the hair. They're just all Utah moms. Okay. I'll leave it at that. Give me some, are we getting into this season or are we not? Well, there's only five episodes. Are we getting into the season or are we not? I'm going to try and watch it all. Yes. I've watched episode one. And what's the, how is episode one? Good.

23:46Here's why I'm going to watch it. It appears to be a dumpster fire from what I'm watching online. And like, I listened to Jade's podcast, which could be perceived as some spoilers for me. And even then I'm still going to watch the rest of the seasons. Like I didn't like that online's also giving me spoilers and like the spoilers I'm hearing are that juicy that I'm like, I'm watching it. Is the internet telling us to be watching it or no? That's, I guess, where I should have been more direct. Jade was like, it's five episodes, watch it. So I'm going to watch it. I'm just, I stay as far away as possible.

24:18Okay. All right. Well, look at that. But Dancing with the Stars. Oh, I have two things on Dancing with the Stars to tell you guys. Okay. The first being, how do I word this? I'm trying to give Harrison a good hint of what one of the pros is I saw Julia Stiles is on the show she is and that was like that was an all time movie growing up 10 Things I Hate About You no the one of her dancing oh no no that's Jenna Dewan Save the Last Dance what no Save the Last Dance yes all time I was thinking of a different movie too no save the last dance is Julia Stiles um okay what's the one where they lift dirty dancing yes

25:15I haven't seen it have you but nobody puts baby in a corner that's that yeah okay one of the pros is doing something very impressive who her name's Whitney what's she doing i know what it is i'm not like we're gonna watch this she's pregnant and that's impressive yeah and they put her with the old man there's always gonna be an old man on dancing with the stars adorable it's guillermo oh guillermo yeah i love guillermo guillermo snuck through to week two and so whitney was he not good no they put him with The pregnant girl so they would get out first. So that they would get out first. So that she like wouldn't have to be a pregnant pro for too long.

26:01He snuck through it a week too. Who got kicked off? Secret Life of Mormon Wives husband. Whitney's husband, Connor. Because they just don't like... Is the internet not on the Secret Lives team? They're on Whitney's team. Is this hate watching? No. In my opinion, what I'm gathering from afar is that people are not on Taylor's team anymore. well yeah Taylor is pretty obvious but just this is it's hard to watch yeah but they are they like to see the other girls succeed like yeah people are cheering for people doing cool stuff with their platform yeah here's all I'm gonna say okay here's all I'm gonna say something is gonna come out about Dancing with the Stars okay like what something very big do you know it and when it when it comes out we're gonna just come back here on this clip leak it here i can't that's it that's all i got but when when we're talking about the big moment we can come back to this clip that's it my next thing on dancing with stars okay it's a recommendation for the people you can do this around any show i have dancing with stars group chat full of people from all walks of life so like i have my best friend zoe i got her best friend in new york her little sister i got some of my friends here in austin all these people have maybe met once maybe not met at all and we live watch it together and live text during it i love this and so would you add us to it if we were to watch no oh sorry can you imagine we infiltrate infiltrate the group text you guys like jules doesn't want to send it no like i just could be my total 100 true self oh okay i get it jules doesn't want us to hear her commentary that's jules wants to do uh if you guys heard like how i speak to my friends you guys would be like what how do you speak to your friends yeah explain like every i can't say just like i don't speak like regular english jules has like do you speak um jimsy like charlotte and i who who you met the other day like we call everything mcgee what does that mean i don't know what mcgee like that's mcgee like oh let me pick you up at the mcgee like what the marriott like and that's like every every fifth word is mcgee marriott it doesn't matter would you have to define that they were at the marriott no i'll just like pick you up at the mcgee like she would understand what else would you use mcgee for um like jenny's name is mcgee and and i have a question what on this i would be confused i'm taking it to the group chat okay are there are there any like fantasy like yes apps like a group chat that allow me to like these things you like draft people you do like um one of my friends is in a draft league with her family um some of my friends did brackets say a bracket fill out a bracket for dancing with stars who do you have winning your bracket i'm not who do you have winning it right now i would love

29:30there's a guy actually no I would love Fibula to win. Okay. You know Fibula? Yes. From Brooke and Connor do a podcast? No but I've heard the name. Okay. So wait. So I think we should get you guys on Dancing with the Stars. That's all I have to say. Let me just understand this from Dancing with the Stars. The beginning votes are like you're voting for your favorite people. Like you go on there and you vote for Sierra. But then it maybe a couple weeks in it transpires to like who you actually think is the best dancer it's all opinion based so like you could me as an individual i could vote for my favorite people or i could vote for how good i think they are dancing okay do you know one of my favorite reality shows of all time is dancing with the stars a reality show you think you can dance so like all of the people from so you think you can dance are on dancing with the stars who like the hoffs the arnold's all of these people it's such a small world when I remember Twitch when Twitch auditioned rest in peace I remember how many times I just could re-watch his stuff over and over and over because you were a YouTube kid and were you a YouTube kid?

30:42yes you said you watched America's Got Talent on YouTube so you can dance on YouTube up until I met you I would still watch America's Got Talent like the Golden Buzzers on YouTube. Oh, I watch the Golden Buzzers. Heartwarming moments. Heartwarming moments. I love when they press the Golden Buzzer. Alright, so Dancing with the Stars is once a week on Tuesdays? It's once a week on Tuesdays. Unfortunately, we're recording this before Dancing with the Stars. Maybe next week I'll come with some takes. Would you like to make a guess now as who's going to be voted off? Guillermo. Unless he just makes like the last year, the old guy he slipped through quite far.

31:24Who's the old guy last year? Andy Richter. He's like, I believe like a radio host of some sort or something. What? He's an elf, he says. Oh, that guy. Papa Elf? No. Oh, because he's really old. Okay, we can move on. This episode is brought to you by Zinni Optical. Now that Rocky and Tate are both in the nanny share and I'm back at work more, I'm on my computer more than ever and my eyes feel it by the end of the day. It's like so true. Sometimes they like itch and they water. And that's why I've been living in my blue light glasses from Zinni. Before Zinni, I wore the same pair of blue light glasses for like three years and I could never find them.

32:05They were scratched and there was one arm that was always loose and they were halfway crooked. But replacing them meant a few hundred dollars and an appointment I was never going to go to. Like realistically, it wasn't happening. so I just kept squinting through it. The pair I ordered is a tortoise shell round frame, the kind I would have expected to pay a few hundred dollars for anywhere else. And Zinni charged me under$40. Zinni is an online eyewear shop with stylish prescription glasses, sunglasses, and customizable lens options, all starting under$30. You just go to Zinni.com, pick a frame, enter your prescription, customize your lenses, and they ship right to your door.

32:42No store visit, no pressure. They have over 150 ,000 five-star reviews. And if you've ever bought glasses online, the virtual try-on shows you exactly how the frame looks on your face before you order. And at that price, you stop saying, do I really need these glasses? And you start asking, like, why don't I just get a couple? Get a pair for work. A fun pair. A pair that only goes with one outfit. That scratched-up pair has done its job. Upgrade today with Zinni. Go to zenni.com slash podcast and use code podcast15 for 15 % off your first order, plus free shipping on all U.S. orders over$65. The styles sell out, so don't sit on it.

33:20That's zenni.com slash podcast, promo code podcast15. I made a little TikTok talking about how you can take coffee to an interview. And people are, they're still so mad. And it's a lot of recruiters or a lot of people in corporate America being like, I've been at my job. I've worked in a corporation for 30 years. Don't bring an iced coffee. I think this tells you everything you need to know about a workplace. Correct. Like that's not the job I want, guys. If you, like I wouldn't want to work at a place where you get docked for bringing a nice coffee to interview. do i think that that tells you everything you need to know about the workplace and why it's i think this is a win-win it's a win-win for the company good yeah and it's a win-win for for the people being interviewed like i think that we've actually unlocked something great amazing okay because what i don't want to have happen is like you bring a you know you bring a nice coffee you wear a certain something and people are like no they're already out like what about the candidate i need i need us i need us to understand the candidates here's what i'll tell you okay here's i'm going to tell you about corporations that judge you for interviewing with an iced coffee those are the same companies when it's 3 p.m on a friday and you squeeze out early to grab a flight or head out of town that you are being judged even when no no furthermore maybe you're not even allowed to leave although you're done with your work yeah they're the ones they need you to clock in and clock out and they need you to get your eight hours a day and they need your lunch break to be 45 minutes to me space time culture and i'm out on facetime culture no now i'm in on facetime culture because i i gotta clarify okay please because i believe that we're gonna say the same thing here to a certain extent facetime is meaning in in person we're in person face-to-face culture i think that there's a lot of benefits to that but i don't think we need to overdo it just to just to get the time stamp what i said yeah it's different definition what's your definition i believe in in in-person work face time culture is it's very like investment banking of you can't leave the office until your boss leaves the office even if your work is done that's what i meant by you're you're there for face time not for work i love irl work i think it's great for productivity i think it's great for culture i think it's great morale i'm a huge irl work person but I believe in being there for a purpose and that purpose not being like making your boss think you're working hard.

35:59Totally. Work hard. And when you're not working hard, not working, get out of there, have fun. Right. It's no, it used to very much so be like, you need to be the last to leave the first to get there. Now it's like, just be productive and, you know, get out and be. But what I'm saying is I think that the company's judging you for bringing the coffees to the interviews and saying that's a no-no those are those are the those are the facetime culture companies yeah and i think a lot of people in these comments would be like yes and and you should stay till five there you go and that's great for some people but not for me not for me either i think it's giving like two people that have been out of corporate america for five years five plus years like people have people need jobs and like these are the jobs available to them and then if they're saying like this person said a recruiter here for 25 years you bring a coffee you are immediately disqualified in my manager's eyes you can't not bring a coffee for a 30-minute interview when like this is the job available to you and it's hard to get a job no no if okay and so what i'll say on this is great i agree if people are saying If you need a job and people are saying, hey, don't bring an iced coffee.

37:17OK, I agree. Don't do that. I agree. Like, why not do everything you possibly could to put yourself in the position to get the job? I would just I would like to challenge the interviewers and the managers being like, why is the iced coffee the deal breaker? I agree with that. That's more. I guess I want to run it up the flagpole a bit further. I, too, also don't want to work someplace where that is a deal breaker. but like if you in your mind can't get over i shouldn't bring my iced coffee with me like that is that's a little bit of an attitude problem if you actually want that job i agree jules if they're telling you not to and you're looking for interview skills and tips and you really want the job leave the iced coffee at home apparently it's a hot button we're just like kind of got a push back on that all right is like the unemployment rate is at or close to all-time lows like i think the unemployment rate is like two and a half percent if we could pull that up so like if we were sitting here in like an eight percent unemployment rate market like then and the economy was was falling off a cliff and no one was hiring like yes it very much gets in the mindset of take what you can get.

38:35Like we're in an economic boom right now. The overall unemployment rate is 4%, but the unemployment rate for Gen Z is 10.5%. I would like to know why. I need you to double check those numbers. 4 % feels a little high. And what is the expected unemployment rate for Gen Z? from the u.s bureau of labor statistics yeah the u.s unemployment rate is 4.1 percent as of august 2026 okay and what and what is the um what is the range of unemployment rates that we see because i i still believe well i said two and a half percent i think four is at the lower end of As low as 3 % or as high as 14.8%. And what's a reflection of a healthy growing economy?

39:32Typical range. Outside of major recessions, the rate usually stabilizes at 3.5 to 6%. Okay. So we're in a very healthy range for unemployment, close to the lows. And how does that sit with Gen Z where they're supposed to be? Because I'd assume that the younger generations are always going to have higher unemployment rates than, you know, four year olds. It also it's not the iced coffees. It's it's not the iced coffees, but the iced coffees like represent something. I get that attitude problem. I agree, Jules. I'm with you. I understand. Like, I also don't want a job where I can't bring an iced coffee.

40:11but if if there's a group of people saying don't bring the iced coffee i like for some reason i can't get into your guys's head because you guys are like oh bring a gift to someone's house like it's the equivalent to me is like saying that the norm is bringing a gift to someone's house for a housewarming is just saying like it is an etiquette norm to not bring a nice coffee to an interview and and your guys's two opinions aren't matching up to me i am actually confused by it wait i I don't get what you're saying. So like you got I'm not on this like etiquette train that you guys are on and have opinions on.

Read the full transcript

40:48OK. In this like when I'm being hosted, I must bring a hostess gift. That's a Harrison thing. But yes, I feel like you co-sign it. No, you. I do and I don't. Like what's an etiquette thing that you agree with? Men should open the door. like men should open the door is truly the equivalent to saying you should not bring iced coffee to an interview they're just saying it's an etiquette thing jules is i would rather you come with an with a coffee to an interview than not come with a coffee so i'm at the other end of the spectrum as the hire as the person that has hired lots and lots of people that's a better sign to me that you have the time management skills to be there on time with a coffee in hand and you know my favorite thing to that i want to see in an interview that i somehow forgot last week i love a pen and paper you come into that interview with a pen and paper i love it so take notes to dock someone for it it's it's banana land and i'm telling you your phone it's the focus on the wrong thing and but these people from corporate america are saying no it's if you interview for 20 jobs and you can't get one then sure drop the iced coffee but for because you're playing that that car but like i just i mean the economy is ripping a lot of jobs out there i like jules's rebuttal here though i'm very for this it's not in line with our usual thinking I don't care about if someone has an iced coffee or not, but if society is telling you that the norm is do not bring iced coffee, then don't do it.

42:36But people did it to millennials too. We did a bunch of stuff that all the older generations were like, they're going to die and not succeed and they're going to ruin the world. But I'm telling you, Jules, that it is only part of society and that is the type of job that maybe you shouldn't want to work for. that's my point but then you can't you came at us with this whole other angle because it's our job to come at us with the other angle i think the other angle it doesn't make it doesn't make sense why you guys are riding so hard for iced coffee if that's an etiquette thing do you know what's getting me about it i don't understand why the other side is saying they would possibly disqualify somebody for bringing one like you're telling me your strongest candidate on paper shows up with an iced coffee and you're going to deduct them a point they show up on like that's your deal breaker is the ice that's where i'm getting confused i get confused when one of my comments has over a thousand likes and it's that they're like i'm gonna die i'm like a thousand of you are gonna die on the hill of the iced coffee i'm confused and i get and that's the thing is i get that work environment is great for a lot of people but it's not great for a lot of people I'd love to call like a dad like I'd love to call like a I know you're a dad sorry I'd love to call a a father no a grandfather a grandfather in their 60s call your dad 70s and ask if somebody brought a nice coffee to an interview would that be a deal breaker here's what I'll tell you my dad wouldn't even notice I think mine would he'd be like I don't like coffee that's what he always says I don't think he'd care Who's.

44:26Yeah, I'm trying. We're so out of corporate America right now. That's our problem. But a lot. But that that's the millennial. But that's the whole thing. Like, I also think if you said to these people like, hey, we're going to work from home for more than one day a week, they'd be like, no way. I just think we live in like this like fake Austin world where everyone has these fake jobs and like they're awesome jobs. but like there's just i don't know all my all of my friends are like no iced coffee what are you guys talking about like this is the stupidest question ever why would you bring iced coffee to an interview it's funny i'm thinking about it now i personally wouldn't bring the iced coffee i don't think you would i actually know that i would not back in my corporate harrison days you would not have anything to get the job so you would not have taken but then i realized that isn't the life for me but you would not have taken the iced coffee if i was told no i would not i'm either well no one's telling you well the internet is well the internet is screaming so yeah if i was a gin zier right now and i saw one video saying don't take an iced coffee i i would like to remove all all things against me but i'm just saying also now if you go bring an iced coffee you're just saying like f you well now but now what i would like what i would welcome is somebody showing up with two iced coffees as a joke.

45:50One for the interviewer. Then you're done. You're hired. Boom. I think I'd be like, that was funny enough that I'm in. Okay. Or like a whole jug of iced coffee. It would be risky, but it'd be high risk, high reward. This episode is brought to you by Skims. You guys have heard me talk about Skims a hundred times. I'm wearing a bra right now from Skims. If I'm wearing a bra, it's from Skims. And I'm going to keep doing it because guess what, guys? They just don't miss. Every single thing they release becomes a staple in my closet The stretchy underwear, the push-up bra everyone's obsessed with And now their skin's cotton fabric As a mom, postpartum, I think I can still call myself postpartum Actually, I can, you guys, for like two years All I want is comfort and cotton against my skin That has been a non-negotiable for me lately So the second I tried on their cotton collection I felt like Skims had read my mind I've been meaning to swap out a bunch of my basics for cotton pieces and it could not have come at a better time.

46:49Truly, you guys, I'm obsessed with the shorts and the top and I'm obsessed with it. The cotton rib tank, it is the perfect throw on piece. The fit is amazing. It's incredibly soft. It works with literally everything. And I wear it under cardigans. If I get a little cold, when I go outside, I just take it off. I wear it with denim. Sometimes I even wear it with pajamas. And it's one of those pieces I keep reaching for over and over and over again, because after all, after you wash it, it still fits perfectly. It fits the exact same and it's comfortable and it is on the if comfort's on the top of your list right now you guys are going to be obsessed with this too so shop skims cotton and all of my favorite pieces at skims.com after you place your order be sure to let them know we sent you select podcast in the survey and be sure to select our show in the menu drop down that follows speaking of jugs i have a i have a good data point for you all okay okay can't possibly imagine what it is trying to transition out of that well we know you're trying to transition okay so we're gonna do a little h finance segment here okay a little quick one all right uh and this is from our friends at the wall street journal do you want to give away a hundred dollar gift card for coffee we we that we could get we could do that we could do in the name of iced coffees i'm gonna i'm gonna come back with the with what the with what the gift is okay on the back of this okay i'd like to a keurig i'm gonna come back on this all right so the best performing stock all time in the s &p 500 over the past 45 years okay something with jugs um can you guess it milk milk a jug a jug jug is a bit of a stretch okay interesting Water.

48:39Like Dasani. I don't know. Far from it. Oh, I thought that was a really good one. Okay, it's a store. Okay, don't tell us. A store with jugs. Went public in 1981. Okay, give us more. Where's it from? Detroit? I've made videos going there. Home Depot. If you bought$1 ,000 of Home Depot stock in 1981, it would be worth 16 million dollars today what home improvement who would have thought if you did the same thing with Apple guess how much it would be worth 2 million dollars 4 million dollars I could not believe this when I saw it so Home Depot has outperformed Apple how many X is that 4, 8, 12, 16, 4 times on this metric 4 times yeah wow and what do we learn from that so here's the here's the uh people like to do home improvement more than buy phones i'm just like why do i care why do you care yeah because it's not always the most obvious stock just it's can i can i give you what my layman's terms takeaway was this in real time is sometimes it's the steady uh timeless industries as opposed to the ones that are hot topic-y and like if you would have bought Motorola at the time you probably would have thought Motorola would be around forever and like there was the Blackberry and this is the heyday and XYZ but look home improvement Home Depot it just stayed tried and true and look it's outperformed it it's it's an appreciation for like real boots on the ground businesses in this whole world of AI buzz and this and that it's comforting it's appreciating like hey there's opportunities in the physical world um that's a beautiful statistic now good questions though i'd like to know why we care the other side to it is a little bit of a frustrating side okay okay and it is opportunities like that are much harder for the everyday person to now get access to because the time in which companies stay private has grown exponentially.

50:58So companies today are staying private for a lot longer than they were previously. And now they're going public at much larger valuations than they were, call it, 20, 30 years ago. And where that becomes unfortunate is 20, 30 years ago, the everyday investor could go out and get access to those companies shares at a much lower valuation entry price is higher now tldr it's more expensive to play now like we're not getting access to a lot of these great deals we're getting access to them but when they're a lot more expensive so if you wanted to get in on home depot on the ground floor you could at a price that was accessible i get it there you go okay not financial advice there was no advice in there not that i heard oh yeah i know i didn't hear any advice Okay.

51:47So that was my finance corner of the week. Okay, so do you want to give people a gift card to get coffee, or do you want to give them a gift card to Home Depot? I think that we should do... Coffee because it's pumpkin season. I think we've got to do coffee. We're going to do a$100 gift card giveaway to your favorite coffee shop. So just comment your favorite coffee shop, and we will pick one of the comments, and we'll give you a gift card to that coffee shop. Can I take it a step further and request that your coffee shop be local-ish? Like, I would comment Swedish Hill if I lived in Austin. And yes, maybe there's what?

52:24How many locations now? I don't know. Let's call it four. But that's like local enough for me. Yeah. And if they don't have a gift card, we'll just Venmo you. They'll have a gift card. Okay. So comment your spot and we'll just scroll through and we'll just boom, pick one and we'll say, tell us your favorite coffee shop. We'll get you the gift card. A hundred bucks. Fun. Ice coffee only. and do not buy a hot no they can buy hot copies right i'm a i'm an exclusively hot coffee drinker oh so this argument wasn't even relevant to you because i think they're saying you can bring hot coffee i said that i said that on monday i said i would take a hot coffee iced coffee sweat they're loud they're annoying it's it's it is like so pick me to have an iced coffee it is it feels I'm just kidding.

53:08It's not. I feel like we got one other topic to cover. Okay. What would you like to cover? I don't know. That's just what I'm feeling for my recall of programming. Worried about your college kid? Now you can hire a local mom. New York Times covered this trend. Parents are hiring concierge moms. Concierge moms. How about that? To check in on their college kid, it's around$1 ,600 for four years of unlimited support. She'll drop off energy drinks, take him to x-rays. I love how they say on him. Like most girls probably don't need one. But the boys, if you're worried about them changing their sheets more than once a year, you can hire a mom.

53:46Laundry, dorm decorating. Now on 10 plus college campuses, including Washington U, Northwestern, UF, UCLA, and Penn State. Okay, I'm 10 out of 10 out on this. 10 out of 10 out on this. college is the time for you to start really learning things on your own like this is this is half of the point of college is developing independence under your own roof i'm gonna take it from the mom standpoint i love this because they've got all these skills right now they can monetize it i think it's a beautiful job yeah so i'm very pro giving i actually love i love it from the mom's side i hate it i'm with you from the hate it from the college kid's side like learn learn to do your stuff but where i where i would like to tailor this actually a bit more is i would just like the mom this college mom the higher a mom to pick one one or two areas like i'll clean your dorm and i'll do your laundry we can cut down on the cost here yeah i love it no i love it i'm all for it no as the like as the college kid that that is the exact type of thing you need to be taking on do you think you can't have your mom knocking on your door saying it's time to do laundry what if the kid paid for it himself love it and then he's just like outsourcing things he didn't want to do i love it that's actually learned that's literally the definition of life that's him okay that's that's how we marry this whole thing thank you the college kid needs to pay for it you get a job you do what you want you start you start your own business maybe you are doing heavy lifting for people or maybe you're organizing people's closets great business idea heavy lifting for people literally yeah oh my goodness i'll move around your dorm for you and then or i'll dispose i'll break down your boxes yeah break down your boxes i'll design your dorm room no i'll walk you home late at night yeah it could be like an on foot security guard i like that too that's a good one um so or i will play your boyfriend if you're trying to make another guy jealous.

55:51Some really good call. I'll do your homework. Look at that. I'm really good at math. Yeah. So you do that and then you make enough money and then you say I don't want to do my cleaning and I don't want to do my sheets so I'm going to outsource it to a mom and then a local mom comes. She gets all the laundry. She does pickup day. She does drop off day. I love it. Look, everyone's winning there. It's a business and the way you get business is you put up signs around the dorm. Yeah. There we have it. I do have one more thing for programming. Back to the eye patches, matching with the eye patches.

56:26Alex and I learned cool things about matching with your toddler. Okay. So this morning, Tate and I both have, we have the Mommy and Me Yellow Park sweaters, the crudex. And I put mine on. And I had shown her about a week ago that we both had them. We both wore them. Right? Hers was hanging in her closet. Mine was too. I put mine on this morning because I was cold and I went into her room. She was like, per Tate, per Tate, per Tate. and like that's what she says purr not fur and like she started running around she looked in the laundry room and then she looked at her drawers and she was pointing everywhere trying to find her sweatshirt and then we went to her closet and i was like i found it top left in her closet she's like i have to she's like mama for me for me so we put it on her and she just wanted to match and then when we walked to the nanny's share she wanted to hold hands and we held hands and what we learned is that when a toddler wants to match clothes with you all the time it is a normal and healthy sign of imitation emotional bonding and a growing sense of identity matching outfits gives toddler a visual cue that you are on a team she felt like my teammate so i love this i also think there's a big opportunity it makes them feel safe and loved and included in more in more matching especially from a dad's side i would love adorable to match our kids but also match them like in a more like it doesn't need to be a true apples for apples like her t-shirt perfectly matches mine just like maybe i have the same maybe we have the same pattern like on our collar or something no she wants an apples to apple matching i'm i'm i'm i love she lit up when i walked in there she was like i have like she was so excited but we see it every day like you wear your boot does she wants to wear her boot does that happened last night and i am i have had it with the internet on the pronunciation of botas bootas they're like if you're not some people are taking it as far to be like if you're not going to pronounce it right don't say it no no no no no because what we do in our household like maria she's always asking me how to say stuff and i'm always asking her how to say stuff and we're both like all four if i pronounce it wrong i'm learning yeah we should make our best average pronounce it right but i don't yeah both I think it's botas.

58:31Botas. Who said that? You?

58:38The computer. I thought P said it. It was the computer. Do it again. Botas. Botas. Botas. Yeah. Anyways. If I take a purse, she wants to take her purse. She sees you guys on a team together. I think that's very sweet. Love it. Adorable. All right. I need some matching clothes for the kids. Yes, yes. Okay, and me too. We love you guys. Thank you for listening. This week on Two Parents & A Podcast, happy Wednesday!! We open with the question every woman has wondered: do men ACTUALLY notice makeup? Harrison's honest answer confirmed what we suspected (the answer being "no") hahaha. We get into the levels of makeup (1, 2 and 3.. and how "you're so beautiful without makeup" is usually said to a level 1), what the "right" age is for kids to start wearing it, and the getting-ready gap: his entire routine is teeth and deodorant, hers is a production with a budget.

Next up, a weaning update from Alex: the fog is lifting!! Things that felt really big are starting to feel manageable again, and for anyone in it right now: they say the hormone transition can affect you for 1 to 3 weeks. The only way out is through, and it DOES get better. (Oh and Harrison’s excited he can not eat my food)

We also have a debate we need your help settling: what causes a kid to be left-handed?! Harrison is going full speculator mode (his smudge theory involves ink, school desks, and a prediction that computers will create MORE lefties), and we need every left-handed listener to sound off in the comments. Plus a quick pause for panel outfit planning.. (come see us at Dear Media by Day THIS Saturday!!)

Over in the internet section: a PSA that the algorithm cannot tell your hate comments from your love comments (if you don't care, don't engage!!), Secret Lives of Mormon Wives is back for Season 5, and Jules' DWTS corner: the pregnant pro, a prediction we're putting on the record, and her rec for making any reality show better: a "watch party" group chat. Plus the iced coffee at an interview saga continues.. the recruiters found Alex's TikTok and they are MAD.

And Harrison's corner: the best performing stock in the S&P 500 over the last 45 years will genuinely surprise you (hint: "something with jugs" lol), and the New York Times covered a trend we can't stop thinking about: parents are hiring "concierge moms" to check on their college kids?! Errands, energy drinks, X-ray rides.. we get into whether this is genius or a step too far.

And a giveback to close: comment your favorite LOCAL coffee shop (on YouTube or Spotify) and we're randomly giving one of you a $100 gift card to that exact spot (HOT COFFEE ONLY lol)!! Finally, the sweetest thing we learned this week: matching with your toddler isn't just cute, it's a visual cue that you're on a TEAM.

Hope everyone is having a great week :-) LOVE YOU GUYS!
