In short

The episode mixes parenting priorities and “presence” (including social media deletion), a major Substack launch for Two Parents in a Pod, Father’s Day gift ideas, and personal family updates (nanny share changes, Rocky’s development, home/pool renovation progress). It also discusses a World Cup policy: Argentina reportedly bans dads who owe child support from attending games.

  • Father’s Day gift ideas: book a golf tee time (with caveats), and a cigar “case” gift with a reflective note.
  • Home update: New Orleans-style iron fence transitioning to wood; debate about black-lacquer front door vs keeping it original.

Exclusions apply at homedepot.com slash price match for details. Do you have a good question to ask? I have a big question. We can start it off the top. Okay. Okay. Have you guys heard of the egg ick? Yes. I'd never heard of the egg ick. It's a big one. I was told about the egg ick Friday night at dinner, and now I think I have the egg ick. You didn't have eggs this morning? You just made me some? I had five, but I just, I like really - You had five eggs.

1:27Gagged him down. And you have the egg ick. He's trying to eat five eggs. I never had it, but then I switched to doing five eggs for breakfast. Because what's that look? What's that face? It's a lot of eggs. But I'm of the mindset, just get great, high-quality calories in the morning. And I used to be more diversified with what I'd have. I'd have two to three eggs. I'd have berries. I'd have sausage. Don't you want to keep going? No. That was good. And I was like, you know, I can just smash five to six eggs and save the time in dishes. And nope. So whenever I get the eggic, a really good way to remedy it is to do hard-boiled eggs because they don't give me the eggic like scrambled eggs do.

2:10What? I know. I've only ever gotten the eggic for poached eggs. And what is the eggic? Please explain it to me. Just ick. It's just like I can't see another egg. Yeah. I eat eggs every day, but now suddenly I can't see another egg. So valid. It's a texture thing. I get the avocado ick sometimes I get the avocado ick I've had that for about three years Just a raw avocado Like no Barbara had the egg ick up until very very very recently Barbara also had the egg ick It's so true This is my first cup of coffee I'm so happy to be having it with everybody Oh my gosh because we're recording on Wednesday Let's jump into it this is very fun Welcome back to another episode of Two Parents in a Pod Today What?

2:57Cast. Podcast. You say podcast. Do I? Yes. Welcome back to another episode of Two Parents and a Podcast. No, I don't. Yes, you do. I don't think you do. Yes, she does. Are you positive? Pee and I listen to every episode six times. Pee's not sure. Yeah. Pee? Welcome back to another episode of Two Parents and a Podcast. No, it's pod. No, it's not. Pee. Pee, come on. We're going to obviously check. I'll run the tapes, but I'm positive I'm right and I wouldn't fight back if I wasn't positive. But I was right. And I - Jules, why are you so busy today? I'm watching the last 25 episodes and doing an analysis on what Alex said, pod or podcast.

3:38Well, the good news is it's always in the early stages of the pod that I say it, but I'm very interested to know if it's pod or podcast. Okay. That could be one thing people could comment. So you guys, today we're recording on a Wednesday because we're officially at three episodes, which is very exciting. We've got a good episode planned. We're starting to read more, Harrison and I, and have more topical things to talk about. But the other thing that launches this week, you guys, is the sub stack. Are you excited? I'm very excited. I think it's going to be phenomenal. Best book you've ever read.

4:14Best thing you've ever read. That's what you can comment. So I asked a girl, she was in a book club, and we asked her. She'd been in a book club for a very long time. And we said, what are the best books you've ever read? And she said, the best book I've read in the past two years was Yesteryear. So now our book club is reading that. So I want to know, what's the best thing you guys have read? But is it a book? Is it a substack? Is it a, do you read something every, my dad reads this email that gets sent to him by a friend every morning and he just types it and he like loves reading it. It's called the early bird.

4:50So any, what do you read? the morning brew it's the best thing you read and why and i and if it's a book like specify what type of thing it is that you're reading because harrison and i we started to read more now we've also started to write because we are going to launch the sub stack tomorrow here's my question to the class you two what time do we press send on the sub stack do we like because you get to click published so is that at 9 a.m my prediction is tomorrow's going to be a massive sprint getting the back end and the user flows all set up and it's going to be like closer to after five than it will before five okay for the first one yeah yeah okay so you guys have been working on the substack for two weeks i'm so excited about it i don't know what to do and here's why i'm so excited about it okay because we finally we're recording three times a week and there's finally a place where we can put everything so you ask yourself what do i expect from the sub stack well why why should someone subscribe to the sub stack okay most important question thank you here's why you should subscribe because number one this is good please please subscribe and the first thing is if you're listening to this podcast hit us with a subscribe That's a free subscribe.

6:10Please. Thank you. We're working on that big with Bubba right now. Please. And then we give her the piece of toast. Thank you. And it's more like I did too, but it's working. Tinka. Okay. So why you should subscribe to the Substack. Number one, I'm reading so much right now and I'm making some videos on the little subsets of what I'm reading. Okay. For example, you should show your kids, not tell them how to put the rocks back in the pile. If you want them to stop doing something, you should, instead of saying no, you should show them the alternative of what they should do. Things like that, okay?

6:45So we're reading them all the time. We're interviewing people. We're getting articles sent to us. I mean, we are just a sponge over here of this parenting knowledge, and so I'm going to streamline all of that. And the number one comment I'm getting right now on Instagram and TikTok is like, where are you reading this? Where can we read more? So I'm going to put all of that in one place. Second thing you can expect, and it's going to be the best of the best that I'm reading. Okay. It's going to be the ones that make my jaw drop or like, wow, that was really valuable for me to learn. Cause I'm just like you guys.

7:16I don't know. You know, like Dr. Ari Brown, we interview her. She knows, but I'm just learning this for the first time too. So all that stuff that I find to be very interesting, I'm going to put in the sub stack. second thing i get sent so many baby products and i also buy i'm a i'm a big consumer okay this morning what did what arrived on the front porch harrison you don't even know yet baby swiffer baby vacuum cleaner okay because we're going to test those products out so i'm going to link the best stuff that i can think of the stuff that i'm actually using and i actually like whether i bought it or whether it was gifted to me i'm going to link it and we're talking baby products we're talking accessories we're talking fashion anything anything that I'm liking right now I'm gonna link right now the number one thing I'm thinking about linking is I love my pumping bra and I love the new pumpables um I got the mini thing that I can take with me on the go and I'm gonna say in the sub stack I'm giving you guys a little sneak peek I like this one because it has the same pressure as the kettlebell one the spectra so I'm gonna I'm sitting down and as I go throughout my weeks I have a notes app where I just put, it's called Substack and I write in something that I've been using multiple times and why I'm using it.

8:27So we're going to link all that and it's going to be the best baby, the best baby products, the best toddler products, the best mom products, the best, it's just girl products like my phone case, just things that are for girls. And then the next thing, the podcast. Okay. So if you, you guys are obviously listening right now, if you miss an episode or if we talk about something and it needs to be linked, or if we want to dive into it further, it's going to be things we talked about on the pod. Podcast highlights, the best of the pod. Three episodes a week. Hopefully you catch on all three. I know it's tough.

8:57You miss them, boom, you'll get the best of. Yeah, and you'll get a direct link to, like, I'm trying to think of something we discussed, but. A great example is, like, you talked about those three of your favorite books. And everyone's commenting, what's the books, what's the books, what's the books. We'll send them directly to their inbox now. Exactly. Or, boom, stop social media, started reading this new newsletter. there's the link to the daily newsletter i'm reading exactly i'm gonna send them to a competitor well that's different that's it that's a daily news recap that is not what this is this is okay i'm gonna do the summation yes when we're done okay and then exclusive content okay so last night we watched in the city and the last summer house is that was that part of the reunion Yeah.

9:47Is it called The Aftermath? The Aftermath. Bravo just crushed it. So we would turn on Substack and we would go live on that. And that would be exclusive content, okay? Because I've been wanting a place where we just can pop up, you know, after the kids are in bed or actually the kids were awake for this. And we just pop it up and we do exclusive content that way. Plus chat access, Q &A. Yep. We're going to get our Q &As. A lot of our Q &As we're going to get now from Substack. So it's just going to be I moved it. I moved the Substack app into my, I have TikTok, Instagram, and now Substack in my social on my homepage.

10:22And we're just going to be in there talking to you guys all the time. So it's now officially part of our community. And then how much does it cost? So$6 if you go month by month by month. Okay. So that's like month to month to month or$4. Is that$48 a year? Yeah. $48 a year. If you pay upfront, I think, and I hope you guys feel the same way and you can put this in the chat if you feel differently. I think it's a really worthwhile, I feel really good about what we're charging. I feel like we're going to water the tree for sure. And the seed that you guys are planting with your money, I think it's really worthwhile.

10:56And I think it's, I think it's good. And one other thing to add, which I don't think we clarified in terms of, all right, so what are you actually getting in terms of like the, the deliverable? And so you're getting a weekly email and that weekly email is what you just, so I guess we, yeah, so let's. Yeah, so if you subscribe and you pay the$6 a month or the$48 a year, you're getting a weekly Thursday email in your inbox and that's what it's going to have in it. It's going to have. Sorry, I cut you off. Well, it's going to have the what I learned and I'm going to put in all the articles and things like that, the most interesting things I read that week.

11:34Then it's going to have all of my favorite things and maybe sometimes I'll do house. sometimes I'll do baby products sometimes you know it will be just links that I'm of things I'm actually using that were sent to me or that I purchased and then you'll get the podcast TLDR um you know we'll link you out to the books that we read we'll take you right to the specific place all the best things in the podcast and then you'll get exclusive content separately separately this will not be in an email so that was so one email a week with things I learned things I'm loving podcast highlights yep etc etc anything else i feel like typing you guys know i'll just throw that in there then separately periodic bonus content yep then within the app access to q a and uh chat yep and the free version free version will get periodic emails and all of this like i know i just said a lot you're like what is happening i'm gonna post it tomorrow and all All this information will be there.

12:35Like Substack does a very good job of, if I can figure it out, like you guys can figure it out. So it just explains to you what you're getting. You click on it, you click subscribe, and then boom, you're going to get your email or the first post is actually what it is. And it will make so much sense. So tomorrow, just click away. Love it. And the last thing is, this is our first iteration of it. So if you guys have ideas of things you want to see, things you want done differently, let us know. Because this is our first time doing Substack as well. And it's built for you. So just keep us posted.

13:06Okay, H, let's dive in. You ended the last episode talking about some advice that you had been given, but unfortunately you weren't landing the plane quite as quickly as the plane needed to be landed, so we cut you off. Oh, I was in such a special place at that moment. I don't know if I can get back there. We're going to have to. Let's move on. Do people want to know? Yeah. Do people come in? Yeah, people are like the cliffhanger. okay so you met with the you were talking casually to a successful guy and you asked him what'd you ask him um advice for two young dads two young uh family focused trailblazing entrepreneurial fathers okay and what did he say he said over the next 10 years make sure you're picking up your kids from school every day and you're coaching their baseball team i love it why is that is that because in 10 years when you look back at what the most meaningful thing you've done it's going to be those family moments so and that goes to show it's it's sort of a priority check i think right what am i prioritizing because it's not going to be making the most money or doing the this or doing the taking all the business trips xyz he's saying the thing that will matter the most to you is those little moments where you picked up your kids yeah exactly and i think you know when it comes from someone who's had the level of success that they've had when you hear that advice which obviously like you've heard in many iterations before but you hear it direct from the horse's mouth in a very intimate, unbiased setting, it really, really lands.

14:54And obviously that is just a symbol for, you know, making sure things are, as you just alluded to, prioritized on the home front. Well, why it means a lot for him too is this. Somebody that picks up their kids every day from school, they can't all say they've made a billion dollars. But he can say, I've done both. And I can tell you at the end of the day, the one that matters the most is not the meetings you had here it's not the people you met here it's not when you you know did something great in business it's when you picked up your kid or coach their softball team yeah one good news for parents because that's one thing we can all do one thing that uh that you do a lot and i really gotta like give you credit for is like when something important is happening like if a call comes in or like you'll see me getting on my phone like you look at me and you say I don't care if that is the CEO of Facebook like put your phone away and do X and yeah yeah because I don't care who is on the phone it's like it can't because actually nothing can possibly be more important than the four of us being in the same room.

16:12Yeah. And you say it at like very just more family oriented time. It's a reality check. I think it's a big driver. Like it's one of the things. Can we talk a little bit about a little bit about the deleting social media? Yeah. Because we're a couple of weeks in. If you're on YouTube and you thought Harrison just crushed an energy drink and then picked up a nice coffee, he did. So I don't want you to think like we're recording this an hour apart. We're not. This is the same two minutes. Just want to call that out. So now you guys are going to get the ice. Here we go. Here's the ice. Did you know, according to CNBC, nearly half of hiring managers say a candidate's enthusiasm about the job is the most important factor when considering them for a role?

16:55Well, if you need to hire for your business, how can you separate the candidates who are really excited about your opportunity from the ones that are just like, meh, inter-eventory? ZipRecruiter. ZipRecruiter has a new feature that quickly lets you see the most interested qualified candidates first so you meet the right people faster. ZipRecruiter's smart matching technology connects you with qualified candidates instantly. Candidates can tell you in their own words why they're interested in your job. Four out of five employers who post on ZipRecruiter get a quality candidate within the first day and now you can try it for free at ZipRecruiter.com slash Alex.

17:33That's ZipRecruiter.com slash Alex. Meet your match on ZipRecruiter. Yeah. How's the deleting of social media going? Am I three weeks off social media now or two? Two. Yeah. Two sounds right. I'm loving it. I'm just, I'm loving it. And tell us what you love about it. You feel ultra present. Well, I feel ultra present. I'm just never, like I don't doom scroll. And so all my time on my phone, it forces me to be productive and I'm still getting my social media like my my my beak wet I'm still getting my social media beak wet from the desktop I love the desktop social media like I'm getting in there I'm still getting a good little hit little cigarette hit 15 minutes a day just rip it on the desktop i honestly no one's loving it more than me harrison like you you did used to you know the thing about you which i love is you can't walk and chew gum and that's a good thing because that means if you're walking or if you're chewing gum separately you are giving it your all right yeah if you're walking you're walking with the best of them you're chewing gum i mean your jaw hurts but you're not doing both at the same time because you can't and that was why it was hard sometimes if you were scrolling because i'd be like hey the house is on fire you'd be like no i didn't hear me totally so i'm really where i have to give you so much credit for this year remember what you said back in january you wanted to be a present father you wanted to get in shape You wanted to get ready before Rocky got here.

19:20Okay, Rocky got here. Now you're saying, I want to get off social. Like you're constantly bettering yourself and that's contagious. So I'm happy to be around you. Thank you. I feel like I need though like an uptick in motivation. I feel like my motivation is starting slow. So I need to kick that back into gear. Well, if the energy drink pipeline to the coffee doesn't do it today, nothing will. I'm very curious though, travel. We have some travel upcoming. and I feel like I crush a lot of social media when I travel. Keep it off. And, yeah, so I'm just going to have to get podcasts going. What's your current podcast?

19:58I only listen to one podcast, the All In Pod. You love the All In Pod. And how many days a week do they drop? They're one a week, but I think they just did a big slew of drops because they had this conference. And how long are their episodes? about like an hour and a half plus minus hour 20 I think okay okay great so other things that are happening in our lives um the nanny share has arrived back at our house today for the first time so a lot of firsts this week so Rocky's officially two months old and what we did whenever he was born was the nanny share because the okay so if you're new here we have a nanny share that we do with our neighbors that would bounce back and forth between houses so Monday Wednesday Friday was our house Tuesday Thursday it was their house we literally walk across the street to do drop-off it's the best thing ever okay well when Rocky was born to give us our newborn bubble it was at their house every day so for eight weeks Tate was out of the house she was over at the neighbor's house it was great now the nanny share has come back to our house other update is Winnie is a brother as we know who Maria's mom has and now whenever we leave and we come places like this, we drop Rocky off with them.

21:09So we have two nanny shares going on. So it's six people. Just the nanny share was three and now it's six. It's doubled in size. How cute is that? A lot of action in the house this morning. It's the sweetest thing ever though. But you know, now we got to get on our grocery game again. Yeah. Got to get back to ordering my three cartons of eggs a week. we also we need to find the new um the new child for tate and when he's nanny share yeah the third this is a big priority i think we mentioned on the podcast we wanted to do this we were going to talk to someone as we spoke to them they'd already committed to something yeah so we need to find we need to find the third um and add them into the mix and i think that their days are start going to getting a little more structured i think that i've been blown away over the past couple weeks of tate's ability to retain knowledge and really like learn and i think that some more structured communication around uh around learning will be very beneficial for her but they were reviewing colors this morning did you hear that yep red is rojo i mean we were doing that blue is Azul.

22:24Did you hear that? What do you guys think about adding a little boy into the mix? We want a boy. That was who we had extended the offer to. He was a boy, but he's booked. He had other plans. Rats. I know. You say rats? Yeah. That is just a very, what is it, Gen X? What's our baby boomer? What's our parents? You said wet my beak. You don't have any. You're in the same camp as rats. a camp above rats yeah exactly exactly so that's what's going on with and then rocky today rocky bears rocky bears like he's wide awake he's like he's truly for the first time as i mentioned on monday he's a different human and ready our neighbor m she picked it up today she like whoa he woke up he's wide awake he's still leapfrogging though his legs he'll still cuddle with you but he's awake oh tate learned how to cuddle she did this is a big development she could not understand when she got out of her crib that she could also sit still and cuddle and stay in her sleep sack in another bed so whenever we go and we get her in the mornings we bring her into our bed and she would just right when she get into our bed be like uppies uppies uppies it's our jumping like she just wouldn't and now i think we've had two or three straight days of like 10 to 15 minute hangs in our bed in the morning.

23:48And we call it cuddle. Because that's the term. But we say we're cuddling. Cuddle. Cuddle. Remind me on Friday, I want to talk about Father's Day. Okay, perfect. So we do have Father's Day approaching. On Friday, I mean, a real winner in the sub stack would be three last minute Father's Day gifts. Not ghost written, but sub written by Harrison. Should we add that? I will make an appearance for this, for sure. And they need to be, but they have to be. For sure. Like last. So for a mom, a really good one is like, if you forgot, you can go get a spa gift card, okay? You can plan a spa day. Yeah. Not good for a dad.

24:25Not good for a dad. So maybe these are Amazon links. Oh, I have a very good one. Okay, don't tell us. Very good one. Should I tease it? Should I wet the listener's beak? Maybe. Maybe. I don't know if we can be gatekeeping things from our listeners. Okay. Okay. I like that, Jules. I'm with you, Jules. This came to the top of the dome. Am I allowed to say that? Okay. Call up the golf course. And it can be a public golf course. I find every city has like one really, really good, at least one really good public golf course. Call him up and book him a tee time. Away from his family? Not on Father's Day.

25:04Okay. Oh, not. So like the Saturday after Father's Day, like book him an 8 o 'clock tee time with one buddy or three buddies. but like it is very difficult for guys we can't get you flowers which you can do the day that's a really good if you told me like hey i have a tea time book for you next friday with nick chad and dan i'd be like awesome not friday though we have to record correct jules well unless it's a two o 'clock tea time yeah well so sorry do you want me to also text your friends and book it with them make sure everyone's available i think that everyone has a different like however best managed i think that doesn't matter even if you just threw it even if you just booked an empty like here's what i'll say if you coordinate with the friends and you can book all four amazing if you can't coordinate with the friends then i'd recommend only booking two to uh for two people because i think getting four logistically could be tough but i think a guy can always get one other person and if he can't then you know it could even turn into a a little uh date if you want to join him are cigars a good thing to get cigars are i feel like a pretty binary thing for guys i feel like guys either really like them or they don't smoke them here's a great cigar observation okay talking about the difference between northern men and southern men okay i've noticed in the south men love cigars yeah in the north cigars are a non-event for guys oh like i didn't start smoking cigars until i started hanging out with guys in the south okay yeah did not know that is that just a horrendous stereotype i i don't know cleveland people are doing cigars for like what do you consider yourself the northern midwestern but Like closer culture-wise to Canada than...

27:03When I lived in New York, I didn't see a cigar. I went to a cigar bar once. Like the Hudson Books in West Village. That's cool. Cigars are like a... Just like a wedding, graduation, that type of thing. In Cleveland. People here smoke them. Oh, like on a Saturday. They'll have guys over for cigars. Cigars are a thing here. But it's not an everyday thing. It's very much so like if you were going to have a, it's a happy hour, but a little bit more novelty than that. Yeah, I would say weddings and graduation. High school graduation, that was like a big thing. I once. For the guy schools. Oh, so the guys would drink or would smoke the cigars.

27:46Yes. The graduates. Yes. That's cool. Yeah, like your parents give you a good cigar, maybe. A phenomenal gift to dads who just had a kid is a cigar. because whether or not you like cigars or you don't I got a case of cigars and it was a note and it said when things settle down I hope you find the time to go to your deck and smoke one of these by yourself and reflect on the moment you just had and what's to come and that was an incredibly memorable gift so not necessarily Father's Day but we can put that for a future list of things to get guys once they have a kid love it I think well so let's save the rest of your ideas and we'll do a little three yeah I don't even I mean I have to think about them that's all I have right now I have one more but I think that we you need to give something that can arrive quick but that's why the golf the golf you can call and book and you can book two weeks in advance yep And then we'll give you three others, but nothing cheesy, okay?

28:59Get some good ones here. Okay, so... I'm going to make a pledge. What? I'm going to pledge to do one contribution. I'm going to have a segment on the email list every week. I'm going to make a pledge. Harrison, no. Okay, no, then I'm not going to make a pledge. Do not make the pledge. Pledge removed. The reason I don't want him to make the pledge is not because I don't want him to make an appearance it's because if it becomes Wednesday and Harrison hasn't submitted his it will drive me insane didn't we just talk about we talked about that with the chores thing yes do not we're not making promises we cannot keep okay I'll give you another example of a promise that we're not sure we can keep last night Harrison says because because we went for sushi last night right so on one random Tuesday we decided to go for sushi what does Harrison do declares every Tuesday moving forward as sushi night.

29:54And I'm like, nope. Because next Tuesday is going to roll around and we're going to be like, we want Mexican food. I, no, no, no. Bubber and sushi, it is magical. But we're not saying it's every Tuesday. But it's not every Tuesday. But I would love to commit to Tuesdays being a dinner night. Like, for the family. That's, Harrison, every night is, no, no. Because Tuesday's going to. When we go out. Honey, you know you and I. Next Tuesday is going to roll around and you're going to be like, you definitely want to go swimming, right? You're fighting it. No, it's so nice if we go that Tuesdays, like, Tuesdays we're out.

30:25It's Tuesday. Five, five, oh, that's our break of the week. Tuesday versus Tuesday. I'm going to win. It's Tuesday. It's Tuesday with a T. It's chew. It's not C-H. Tuesday. It's T-U-E. Chew. Tuesday. Tuesday. Tuesday. Tuesday. You're saying Tuesday. Tuesday. Tuesday Tuesday the easiest pick of the week done I'm gonna win okay so perfect every Tuesday 5 p.m. sushi with bubber Harrison does have like an obsession with things having labels maybe yes so yes Jules tell us they have a label for when you when you drop something into the pod they is the listener the listener what is it an H-bomb oh I love it

31:15that's perfect Perfect. An H-bomb. And that's what we'll call it. So finally, we have a segment. We have a catch-all segment name. Just an H-bomb. Oh, I love this. Oh, I love this. You do? Oh, my God. And that's for this newsletter, for the Substack newsletter. Like, whenever I have it, this is our weekly H-bomb. You have it. Of the week. H-bomb of the week. Done. Done. And that way I can come in when I got something good to say and not when I don't. And see, look, we haven't held you two every week. also if there's a random Tuesday where going to the pool sounds more fun than going to get sushi no problem it's no problem because we kept it light this is why I want to do live sessions so badly so badly why?

31:54is because I feel like you can do them now on Substack okay exclusive content why? why don't we do a happy hour the kids are asleep hour oh yeah that could be a lot of fun kids are asleep a digital happy hour yeah um because i just like i love hearing things like that and learning things like that and i only get them like live from or in situations like this from you and i feel like in a more live interactive setting i i would just really enjoy it i really enjoy interacting with would you do a live show 100 i would too i would like to do that You can put that on the, and then another thing that I want to do around December is a little rebrand.

32:41What? Not a rebrand, but like our photo, the photo of the pod's like just Bubber, like now we have Rocky. Oh yeah, Rocky needs to be in that pod, 100%. We're not like so up to date, right? So I do think that, but that's no time soon. I don't think it matters. It's whatever. Here's something I didn't know until recently. One in three Americans think they're sensitive to gluten, but only about 1 % actually have celiac disease. For everyone else, it might be something else in those foods called FODMAPs. And going gluten-free doesn't always help. FODZYME is a tasteless powder you can sprinkle right now into your food.

33:14It helps break down those FODMAPs, the hard-to-digest components in the food that can cause bloating, gas, and pain because they cause discomfort. FODZYME makes digestion easier so you can eat more of what you love. Think about it as like a lactate, but for garlic, onions, wheat, beans, cheese, and other common foods with FODMAPs. We're so excited to partner with FODZyme, and we can offer you 30 % off your first order when you go to ICanEatAgain.com slash 2Parents. That's ICanEatAgain.com slash 2Parents for 30 % off your first order. Finally, you can enjoy your favorite foods without the pain.

33:50Just go to ICanEatAgain.com slash 2Parents. Can we tell the story of like of the transition of the name between like just Alex and two parents in a pod? Sure. Do you remember that night? Yes. Didn't we order Mexican food? We didn't. All four of us at our house. Yep. And Ginny. And Ginny Bears. And I remember you had plans with Emma that you canceled. Yep. And like it almost felt like it wasn't going to happen. but look here we are so what can you just run through what like what happened and how things played out like the transition i feel like best to come from jewels we just had like probably seven seven hundred different we should put out some of them different iterations of what the cover photo looked like and none of us could agree on on what the cover photo looked like that's what it was the font but it was like at it was that day before it was the description the description that was when i knew that we were still going to be able to do it the next day when you were like welcome can we just say welcome to our home sorry it's so messy and we were like perfect yes we can so good and then the other unlock that like i think made everyone like the logo is we made podcast i don't know transparent instead of like black font so you can see your guys's clothes from behind the word podcast and it made all the difference i remember i just bar i felt like i wasn't sure like and you i feel like remembering these things is so hard after the fact but like i wasn't i like didn't want to i was unsure on being i was unsure on being okay with the rebrand until like we actually went live yeah it's a scary thing rebranding is like because like I was so for the listener who doesn't know the podcast was just Alex and it was just Alex for what a year no um April to seven months it was quite literally called just Alex though no it was just me but it was also called just Alex and then I naturally and then why don't you give the background what probably like well it was a solo podcast with Alex and we would have just Alex episodes we would have guests on Harrison came on the second episode I remember recording that in New York and Times Square and then you started Harrison started coming on probably right before like right when we moved here consistently like July ish time frame Harrison was on every episode and it was called just Alex and it was very confusing yeah and the natural trajectory of our lives was like we're in parenting mode 24 7 so if we're gonna sit here and talk like might as well be about that might as well be together might as well be about parenting might as well have parenting in the name also the day before we were like you were like shouldn't it be in a pod did he say that or me no I just feel like what we're missing in this is like I think there was a call out on Alex to me that actually got me over the line what did I say I don't know that's what I'm trying to get to get your shit together it was very just like yeah It was very stop being a scaredy.

Read the full transcript

37:10Yeah. Okay. It was very like commit like you're being. Well, there's no reason to not. Other than you have a day job. I can buy that. I'm really happy. I don't really remember it. Okay. Here we sit. I do think we have another rebrand coming, but not anytime soon. But to paint the visual, the episode was dropping that night or the next day? The next day. The next day, it was supposed to be rebranded to your parents in a pod. We didn't know the description. We didn't know the cover photo. And so we're scrambling to get it all. And it was really stressful. And I was like, I personally found it very stressful because I felt like this was my formal move into content.

37:56Maybe that was it. Yeah. And I'm really happy that you pushed me to get over the edge and stop being scared. Thank you for being here and doing that because now we're at three episodes a week. So how about that? It's one of the favorite parts of my week. I was thinking butterfly effect. I don't know if we would be doing three episodes a week if not for West and Amanda. Should we write them a thank you? Because that West and Amanda got us to talking about pop culture and more so IRL moments. true right true when we just realized how much content there is out there i was just thinking that probably this morning and we what we have to do too which actually is a good thing about you off social media is there's so much to consume out there right now like we need to be reading like just i can't think of anything yeah well current events like yahoo news like you need to be reading but i have like a filtration process right between this morning newsletter that i read between i do my uh my twitter scroll at night between like my guys group chats keep me in the flow of a lot of information and then i i have like uh uh an ai agent that scrounges the internet for interesting news stories.

39:24No, Jarvis is dead. Killed your AI agent? I moved over to a different AI agent. What's his name? Or her? There's no name. We should name your AI agent. Let Bubber name it. Ask Bubber for a name. I'll do that. Purse? She'll name it Purse. Look, I had to name Jarvis. That was probably the biggest waste of money I've ever had. Yeah, I remember when we bought the whole thing for that. Did I ever talk about that on the internet? Not on the pod, but I did. This is an example of Harrison going all in on Tuesday night sushi. He goes all in on Jarvis before Jarvis is even powered on. And we buy the entire home Mac screen setup.

40:03I didn't leave my office for 72 hours. I didn't do anything other than this open claw situation. I hesitate to ask you this question. Where is the computer? This was like two months ago. It's brand new. Where is it at? Well, the desktop is still very much usable. I just don't have a place for it because we transitioned my office. So I think I'm going to bring it to... I think I'll probably just bring it here. No! Remember what we were going to do with it? Okay, so they say when you FaceTime, like grandparents, cousins, things like that, the way to do it is actually not on your phone. Because then they think they can FaceTime wherever, whenever.

40:46It's to do it on a home screen. but where do you want to put that? In the entryway on a really cool desk a desktop and it's fixed so it's like not a laptop that can move it's a home desktop love it so Tate can get on MySpace well so we are going to discuss how the UK banned social media but before should we do Summer House? no because we're right here in home changes so we're going to discuss our front door so okay the pool trucking along we got the gunite so like looks like a real pool okay so we i made a video talking about what kind of fence we're gonna do we have a craftsman style home apparently like i don't know i also googled it i'm not so sure we have a craftsman style home i don't think we do either no we have a historic home okay so craftsman style fence doesn't quite match with our house.

41:43We're doing an iron, like a new Orleans style iron fence that transitions to a wood fence, but the wood fence is going to have a light stain on it to match the house. It's going to be like beautiful. There's one in our neighborhood down the street. We walked. So what we did, and this is our tip for you guys. If you're doing anything home renovation, we drove our neighborhood and looked at all these different fences. And the one we loved the most was this beautiful iron fence. And then it transitions on the side for privacy to wood, but it's the way it transitions it's the way the wood fences the way the panels run horizontal vertical just like the iron does too like it's very beautiful i get very confused horizontal versus vertical horizon horizon sun sun horizon that's how you do it i where it really messes me up is is in excel verticals up and down like i agree can we just say up and down or side to side oh is that what confused me columns versus rows yeah okay it kills me column row coliseum that's how i remember it you lost me i i i'll make the mistake like 50 of the time okay you just go up and down side to side so the people whose fence that you're basing your fence off of are you telling them do you know that no because it's actually very different we're we use that as inspiration and then we went to the internet and then we're going add brick pillars, which they don't have.

43:06That match our house. We're running a trim on the top of the fence that they don't have. So it's very different. If you drove around the neighborhood, I don't know that you would be able to understand that it's the same because ours is going to be higher, different style. But I think a really good tip is to drive around your neighborhood and look because a lot of times, and it wasn't the first lap we made. It was the third lap when we walked it with one of our neighbors. we literally went on foot and we were pointing out okay they have iron and they have wood they have them both okay how does that look okay they have just wood and their wood panels run horizontal and then we we narrowed down but so if you walk around your neighborhood and you're looking for inspo for like a door color so one thing our neighborhood has is blue ceilings painted on the porches and that's to keep the wasps away you have to google this jules why do they paint the ceilings blue on porches in new orleans that's where it started some people say it's to keep the ghosts away but there's actually protection and good luck no it's a bug hold on does say protection and good luck yeah pest deterrent it's it prevents nests from being created because they think it's the sky yes correct yes so we have a lot of blue um porch ceilings in our neighborhood, which I think is really cool.

44:26We have an awesome green front door in our neighborhood that I love. But the other thing that happened was when I made the video, we have some black wood lacquer on our house, which I love, but our front door is original wood. And I was like, we're going to lacquer this black. And a lot of people were like, do not lacquer the front door. And I see this a lot with fireplace renovations in houses. People will show their beautiful fireplace that's original and they'll knock it out and they'll do like white marble something like more modern. People get very mad about that. I do think our front door would look better black lacquered but I understand the purpose of keeping it original.

45:04Are we doing the shades? The black shades on the house? Shudders. He means black shutters. You gotta have chat, photoshop them on there so I can see. If we're doing the black shutters we need to do the black door. Don't change your door. I agree. I think we should keep our door. I think it makes it look I think it's good. I think the door stays. It's cool. Like, it's a cool door. Yeah. But, oof, a black lacquer front door with gas lanterns on the side. Beautiful. We got it. I think that we got to trust your nice instinct on this. Nope. My instinct is not set. I don't have an instinct. Okay. So, anyways, that's the home update.

45:38How far out are we on the pool? We had the guy come by yesterday who's doing the fence and the pavers and the kitchen. We could be, I'm just trying to. No, just give it to me. Are we four months out? If we nail everything, okay, we could be swimming in four weeks. There's no way. But the reason why I'm asking all these questions is because like every day that we delay an answer right now is like the ball is very much in our court. Okay, what do we need to answer? Right, as of this moment, nothing. Great. Oh, no, we need to go drive to the paver store. We need to go look at the permeable pavers.

46:22Great. Let's do it. Okay, so we're trucking along. I think we're eight weeks out. I think we're eight to 12 weeks out. I think we're eight weeks out. We're 12. We're 12 weeks out. All right, so do you want to talk about Wes and Amanda, or do you want to talk about the World Cup? I don't have anything on the World Cup. Well, so, no, we have something. So, basically, I made a video yesterday talking about... That look, make sure you get Jules' look in that. That was an amazing look. We also have the Canadian game tomorrow at 5 p.m. that we're watching. We had like three things on the World Cup. I did remove one of them.

46:56What did you remove? I'm not going to say because I removed it upon your request. And like I already know what it is. Like what on earth? Okay. Should we keep that look too? Yeah. Yes. Yes. Let's just do a smorgasbord of looks. My mom. Whoa. What did you say? Smorgasbord. My mom yesterday. Smorgasberg. No. Smorgas. smorgasbord it's a board borg smorgasbord oh i thought it was a board no i thought it was like a charcuterie board but it was smorgasbord no but my mom said yesterday last night when i was talking to her she said you and alex really gang up on harrison i said nori we do not i said excuse me harrison what is what does your mom think about like the same way that i fell into this world jewels has now fallen into content what does your mom think about this and i like didn't realize this say hi to nori until very recently i guess nori i assume nori listens to every episode yeah she does hi nori hi nori hello nori minich nori minich everyone cleveland ohio that's the thing she um latches on to is that you guys dox her first and last name every time we talk about her she likes it not oh i was like we do dox her we do we do kind of do that she's so fine with it but But that's how she, like, if she's talking to someone about the podcast, she'll be like, if they ever mention me, they always say, Nory Minich.

48:17We do dox her, like, completely. Don't tell us that. Nory Minich, the Cleveland, Ohio. Yeah. Dun, dun, dun. Okay, so what does she think about you being in it? Is she, I don't know. She, like, likes it. Yay. Okay, good. That's exciting. She also says, you should really wear your hair down sometimes. I think your hair looks great today. I like to wear my hair up. But she told me in the past week, like, you really got to start wearing your hair down. Have people commented on your hair being down? Okay, that's another thing to comment. That's the kind of vibes I'm getting. I love her. I love her.

48:48But that's the kind of vibes I'm getting from her. That's a mom, Jules. That's what a mom should do. She should say, hair ups, hair down. Maybe we could get in the comments. No, we're not going to comment on Jules' hair. And how do you feel about being, like, what do you call it? Being in condom, being a character? I think I don't mind on the podcast. We haven't delved into me being in the clips yet, which I'm good with. Great. That's where my line is right now. And Jules is allowed to make her line and create her line and move her line. But my prediction on what happens, so just so the listener has some context.

49:27Jules put the camera, didn't you put the camera kind of out of left field? We need the camera. Yeah, we need a third. It was on the episode where Alex wasn't here. Okay. I mean, like, a good podcast needs two cameras. Totally agree. Yes, but I feel like we talked about it, and then it went away, and then you said, maybe we'll try it. And then one episode, in a rare time of me looking at the comments, I saw people commenting, oh, my God, Jules is there. People love Jules. All my DMs are all about Jules. They love her. I got a DM asking for a girl. Like, this was so random. this girl was like can you set me up with I guess what?

50:14yeah a friend of ours but I like don't know her either maybe she just knows that you follow him maybe you do know her Harrison and you forgot you met her no 100 % I don't know this person okay I'm going to move us along here alright world cup so what we talked about what we had learned yesterday All right, so dads who haven't paid child support can't go to the World Cup if it's an Argentina game. Okay, so the Argentine government gave the United States a list of 13 ,000 dads that haven't paid child support saying they can't enter the games. So then I was thinking, okay, we make a video of this.

50:56Why doesn't the U.S. do this? Well, guess what the U.S. does do? Please. If you have$2 ,500 or more of debt of child support, you can't renew your passport. Oh. But I'm thinking. That's a great rule. It's a good rule, but I'm thinking we could do NBA games, NFL games, and the best Vegas casinos. Any casino. You can't gamble. Love it. You can't gamble. Love it. Concert tickets. And so then you say, well, how do they manage it? Well, in. Sorry. Keep going. In Argentina, they have this software. They do it for concerts, too, in Argentina. Actually, a lot of countries do this. So you go in and they do facial recognition.

51:33That's how you do your ticket there. And so they have a profile on everybody, right? If you scan, it's like, oh, he owes child support. Get him banned. He's out. Nailing in, zeroing in on these highly discretional spending areas that are just purely entertainment, all other ones you just called out, gambling and sports games, it's really, really smart. You shouldn't be allowed to do that if you're not taking care of your financial commitments to your child. Oh, and the best one in Illinois, you can't get a fishing license if you owe child support. And the only time you can fish in Illinois without a fishing license is Father's Day.

52:17So if you care about fishing, you've got to pay child support in Illinois. I think it's great. I think it's great. Texas can't buy a truck. Also, what a great mind fuck. that the only time you let them fish is on Father's Day.

52:33True. It's like the only way you can take your kid to an NFL, the only way you can go to an NFL game if you don't pay child support is if you bring your kid. No, that's not fair to the mom. Okay, I agree. It's not fair. Now, I do want to touch on this, though. Is this just males?

52:58I don't know, but I would assume... No, I'm sure it runs both ways. Why did I just assume that? Yeah, I'm sorry. It should go both ways. I would assume it goes both ways. For sure. Okay, interesting. Yeah, I just want it to be fair. I want people that... This is what I want to say. People that should be paying child support, no matter what your situation is, because it's situational, you need to pay child support, and if you don't, you don't get to go to the sporting event games. Or gamble. Or gamble. Or a concert. Or a concert. and I can't even get, or get a fishing license. How much is a fishing license?

53:30I mean, that is hilarious. I have no clue. Or renew your passport. I mean, that would be, you go to renew your passport and they're like, oh, sorry, you owe so-and-so five grand in child support. Oh. Summer's here and my family's calendar is packed. Lake days, weekend pool activities, long evenings outside before it gets dark. This year, less to-do list and more time together. So I let Policy Genius do the searching for the best life insurance for us. Protecting my family's future has always been a priority for me, but actually finding the right policy always felt really complicated. Policy Genius made it simple.

54:05I knocked it off my to-do list in minutes. What I trust most is that their licensed team actually prioritizes what I need. They're not pushing a specific insurer. 54:45Head to policygenius.com slash two parents to compare life insurance quotes from top companies and see how much you could save. That's policygenius.com slash two parents. So any other World Cup? No. No other World Cup. Well, I thought there was two. There was two. I thought there was three and you cut it to two, so I was the second. Oh, this one we didn't talk about. But my most loved World Cup thing right now is the Japanese fans and the Japanese teams just cleaning up their spaces. Out of respect for the spaces and the hosts. Have you guys seen it? Japan and Japanese culture. That is so sweet.

55:28Unbelievable. So like during the games, all of the Japanese fans have these blue bags and they're like waving them around like flags. And then once the game is over, everyone collectively picks up the trash together. This is why I highly recommend that people prioritize a trip to Japan. because it is, it's a phenomenal place, phenomenal people, phenomenal culture. I, okay, would love to see now, as this progresses though, if Bubber was at this game, I'd be, get over there with them. You're going to stay. Have I ever talked about the subway in Japan? Yes, how orderly it is. I've talked about that on the pod.

56:12I think so. Yeah, they wait in line. When you're in Japan, you have to wait. you wait in a single file line before you get on the subway and then you get on the subway no one talks you sit in silence it's just like yesterday there was a i was sitting at a light and the light turned green and this one car was probably looking at his phone and the car behind him honked and then they start flipping each other off and it's just like that's not happening if your mindset is we're all for order we're all for picking up trash after each other out of respect for the space out of respect for the road. But no, we're flipping each other off.

56:46And I really love the idea of picking up the trash. This is what I always tell Bubba. If you put that chip on the floor, someone has to pick it up. And it should be you. And the players are like folding their towels and jerseys. You have to send me this video. It's so good. That's unbelievable. Do you think that that will rub off on other players? No, because they've been doing it since the 80s. Yeah, this is a larger, this isn't like specific to the world cup this is how things are consistently done but apparently this this world cup this trend started at the world cup in the 80s okay i think it's beautiful but it's just getting some social media but i assume like at baseball games they do the same thing yeah i don't know oh i would think in in all japan sporting events you're saying i the one thing i haven't done that i really want to do is go to baseball game in japan i would love to You know that fandom out there for baseball is very similar to fandom out here.

57:45Football? No, you could argue the fans in Japan are more passionate about baseball than the fans in the U.S. about baseball. Are we super passionate about baseball? Baseball has fallen off a cliff, unfortunately, in a lot of ways when you look at total viewership. But they've done some things that have introduced a pitching clock and viewership is starting to come back. Nori Minich, very passionate about baseball. What's her team? The Cleveland Guardians. Sorry, yes. I would like to say that I think we are most passionate about football here, correct? Yeah. Well, I would call it handball. Somebody commented in the World Cup comments, like, it's so annoying that you guys are hosting the World Cup because you don't even like football.

58:33And I mean, people were like, no, we love football. We hate soccer. So the last World Cup story that I'd love to get to is this goalie. Yes, this is what I was waiting on. So basically, here's the story. Okay. Cape Verde, which is a country in Africa. Okay. They played Spain. Okay. Spain, as we know, is the? Kardashians. Taylor Swift. Taylor Swift. Of the World Cup. Okay. Highly favorite. Yep. This is Cape Verde, Cape Verde, Cape Verde, their first time ever in the World Cup. Okay. They tie Spain. Incredible. I'm incredible. They tie this, like, unbelievable performance. Cape Verde. Cape Verde.

59:18Thank you. Their goalie, who was the star of the game because Spain drastically outshot them, goes from 40 ,000 followers to, I believe, right now is at 9.1 million. Oh, my gosh. That is more followers than Patrick Mahomes. That is more followers than pretty much every major U.S. athlete that you can think of. Okay. That puts it in perspective. Because we're over here. One day. We're over here saying. For tying a game. Not for winning the World Cup. For tying a group game. Correct. 9.1 million followers. Like we're over here saying the World Cup is not doing its job PR. No, the U.S. is just behind.

59:55The World Cup, the PR team is doing their job. It just hasn't hit here yet. Yeah. So the whole entire world is in on this. I mean, magnitude's higher. How many followers does LeBron James have? He's going to have a lot. But Patrick Mahomes has 6.4 million. I mean, that puts it in perspective. LeBron has 213 million combined, 154 on Instagram. Okay, so it's really interesting. I feel like the way to assess if an athlete has gone global versus not is very clearly a massive... Their following is very reflective of if they've gone global or not. So Patrick Mahomes clearly is a domestic star. He is not an international star.

1:00:42Versus LeBron, when you hear that number, he's clearly an international star. The jump from 6 to 150, I think has very little to do with the US and all to do with international. So let's do Tom Brady. because I would Yeah, I think Tom Brady's going to be way less than we would think because I think Tom Brady's international because basketball has become an international sport like especially with the big china push well and michael jordan that was this whole thing he was a global star what do you think for tom brady 50 but i was gonna say 54 15 yeah so tom brady domestic he is domestic who would have thought there'd be such a big difference can you google who's the most football player oh i assume it's tom brady well i don't know i don't know if there's like a random I'm trying to think.

1:01:31Are we missing somebody? No, but Christian, Christian, how do you say his name? Cristiano Ronaldo? Yeah, that came up because I searched football. Like 300 million. But I have to search American football. How many does Christian Ronaldo have? 666 million. He's like one of the most followed guys. Yeah. Odell Beckham. Look at, pardon? Odell Beckham. OBJ? 17 million. And that's highly lifted by his, you know, living in the - Fashion, lifestyle. In the Kardashian influence. Odell Beckham Jr.? Doesn't he roll with the Kardashians? No. He rolls in that like celeb, white party, Michael Rubin, Kardashian.

1:02:15Yeah, they dated him. Who? Yeah. Kim and Odell Beckham. They did? Yeah. Can we look at Shohei Ohtani? oh i wonder how much baseball did he do the game who that is oh never mind i thought that i got a notification about shoyotani but i clearly hit siri and shoyotani came out that was i'm like oh my god serendipity shohei has 10.7 million followers wow so i guess that shows like we've got japan and the u.s on Yeah. Okay. Okay, interesting. So, well, that just, well, interesting in the sense that if that goes to show on that goalie being at 9.1 now, like, how many eyes are on the World Cup, yet how little it is happening here in America.

1:03:01But I think we're getting World Cup fever is, like, starting to really hit. I totally agree. And do you know who we have to thank for that? Social media. These Europeans coming here and seeing the Texas flags at car dealerships are cracking me up. and people like those are medium sized flags did you know the texas state flag is the only state flag that's allowed to fly the height of the american flag no learn that in the comments i don't know if it's true so don't do not say that with conviction but i read it and people liked it okay yeah so i with you though so what's our world cup lineup tomorrow we've got canada at five yeah canada qatar which like i really thought i was going to go back for i'm stunned i didn't I thought you were going to go back for it too.

1:03:47I mean, there's still time. But there's only... Alder's Day in Vancouver? That's what I said. I said you could do it. Take your dad to the game. You'd have to leave after this though. And then Friday at 2, USA versus... Australia. Australia. Now, I hate to ask this. And that was a great example of how the times have changed. Because Alex is on the West Coast for the production thing. Alex Cost. and I was like should we like just rip up to Seattle for the game which is something we just like would have done for the last five years of life and he's like I have a kid oh boy how time changed and I was like I know even as it comes out of my mouth can't do that what were you going to say I was going to say this is a dumb question but if I'm thinking it I think some of our listeners might be as well if you lose are you out so right now we're in the group stage and the top so there's four teams in each group the top two teams advance.

1:04:44Okay. So the U.S. beat Paraguay in the first game. If the U.S. beats Australia, then they'll advance. Okay. In pretty much all likelihood. Canada tied Bosnia in our first game. Okay. But Qatar, in a big surprise, tied Switzerland. So the Canada group is far more wide open, and a win against Qatar is critical right now. And what are the odds of that happening? I assume that we're pretty heavily favored. Are Canada and U.S. in the same group? No, they're in different groups. Okay. I'd say the U.S. is looking better than Canada. Okay, and how long is this going to go on for? How long do we have the World Cup?

1:05:31The group stage? No, the World Cup. When do we find out who wins the World Cup? I believe the finals is July 19th. So we have a long time of the World Cup. and now is where are the finals uh new york madlife stadium oh right new jersey they were saying we don't want the finals i think we're flying back during the world cup from where from dc so we may change that flight if the u.s is in that we must go yes the chance of the u.s being on it is they had three they had two or three percent odds to win the world cup and what does Spain have Spain I believe was 18 % and who was the highest percent I believe it was Spain one France to both around 17 18 % England 3 11 % love it okay we've got the US to win by the way okay good to know okay so that's our World Cup tidbit I didn't tell you this what so we bet the US to win the World Cup at three percent odds yeah and the reason why we place that back yeah is so that way if they get there and they win it would cover a whole trip of going to the game oh cool and like going to the game and flying there in the hotels this is a sneaky thing the husband should do is say we bet the game love it jules so we have this is a this is a very rare we bet oh okay no we bought stock in what was it?

1:06:59SpaceX. I had no idea, Harrison. But we, so if I go and bet a random game, so if I bet like Canada Qatar tomorrow, that's not a we bet, that's a me bet. Because it's like on your app. Yeah. Well, I'm actually saying something a little different. Versus the bet that I made, and I wouldn't bet a lot of money on that Canada Qatar game. The US bet to win that was a we bet because that those winnings would go directly to her and i flying to the place to watch the game i thought it was more so because we have combined bank accounts like we just do well in theory everything is we we bought a purse last week we did but i didn't buy the purse but we bought it but like no yeah i was so excited i told you i texted you immediately no you didn't you came home you go want to see my purse i was like that we bought together we bought it you bought it we you bought it how fun no i do think that so why is it we just i understand okay great because i place the bet under the under the idea that if the u.s gets to the finals we will go there and then we'll have a lot of money riding on the u.s winning and if they win the whole trip will be covered and if they lose then it's a great experience but i think further the point is we put the money in the same account and we do things out of it like we pay for bubber's nanny share like yeah we have full-fledged share share finances right now so it is kind of like we bet what like we bought the purse but i would versus canada qatar i would never say we bet because like that that would be a tiny bet that like has no effect on anything like I'm not doing that with you in mind well correct and I bought the purse it was a joke okay but the next thing but one thing I was thinking I saw this video of this girl and she was like my husband got mad at me for our credit card bill because I am a stay-at-home mom and he makes 100 % of the money and he pays our credit card bill and he was going through the credit card and he noticed he noticed I hadn't bought anything for myself lately so he came and he sat her down and he said hey I was looking at the credit card bill you know that I make the money but you stay at home with the kids and you're allowed to buy whatever you want.

1:09:23She was like, I know, but I haven't seen anything I want lately. So I haven't bought anything and said, okay, then you make me a wishlist of five things that you would like to buy if you came across them and I'm going to make sure they start showing up. How cute is that? And I, and I think that that is, I love that because being a stay at home mom is such a hard job and it would be kind of a, you know, he goes to work and he actually makes the money, but it is their money. And I love that he's like, what did you buy for yourself? Have you gone to the spa? Have you gone shopping? How cute.

1:10:01I have a psychological kind of thing that happened to me yesterday. Okay.

1:10:09I don't remember the last time I bought clothes. It was like that. Maybe I went and bought those Alwood sweatsuits. The t-shirts? Yeah. The World Cup t-shirts we talked about last week? You do some clothes hauls. But yet last night you bought a shirt. The last time I went, it's actually funny. Because that I'm just Apple paying. I don't remember the last time I went into a store and bought clothes. I went into a store yesterday and I bought, oh my God, I bought this hat and I bought a shirt. It's a really cool shirt. Wow. What do you mean wow? Like, whoa, this hat? And I really felt like I was spending our money.

1:10:49Or whatever. You know what? I'm just not going to talk about my feelings anymore on the podcast. You don't know. You don't get this. You're not in on your own joke. That's the best part about you. Hi. I bought this hat. Who is that? I'm kidding. No one. Oh, I was like, oh my gosh. But, you know, some good things have happened in this. We have official plans for the game on Friday. Great. We're going to go watch it with some of our couple friends, I imagine. okay what how much time we've been going and i would like to leave this in an hour and 15. jules hates that and wants to leave it out your outdoor space should feel like you if you've been following along you know we're in the middle of a full backyard reno right now it's going to take several months before it's done but we can't wait to furnish our new back patio with wayfair when it's ready but in the meantime we've been using wayfair for some of the smaller stuff to make the space we do have feel more functional.

1:11:44We ordered the cutest outdoor rolling cooler cart that we used on the neighborhood block party. You guys, the drink stayed cool right there with everyone. There was no more running in and out of the house for every five minutes. And it is so cute. It's bright red. It's on the wheels. The girls love it. The neighbors loved it. It was perfect for the summer. And that's the thing about Wayfair. All right, last thing we're going to cover, because you guys were talking about this in the comments. Well, we didn't talk about Summer House. Okay, then let's do Summer House. We must do Summer House. Because I had one. Why don't you start it off and then I'll go. Because to me, there was one thing. Actually, Jules, first off, did we miss anything in the first 10 minutes?

1:12:50Well, that would be banking on that I watched it on TV. I watched it on my phone on TikTok. Interesting. So we tuned in when Lindsay was talking to Amanda. Okay. And I think we saw a very good chunk of that conversation. Okay. She was talking to her like, I'm going to be your big sister and I'm going to give you tough love. That was the vibe of it. Of that combo. And that's what happened. Yeah. Yeah. But no, you didn't miss much. Before that. I don't think. Okay. The one big thing that jumped out to me where like I got to give Kyle just so much credit for not for just like not fully walking out was Wes's interaction with the dog.

1:13:30Yes. Like emotionally how you handle that. The dog recognized Wes. Yeah, so Wes walks into the apartment, and the dog clearly recognizes Wes. And then Wes says something. He says, oops, I know I shouldn't have done that, further implying he knows how to interact with the dog. And it just puts into context how much time he spent with Amanda, how much time he spent with the dog, and, like, pouring salt in the open wound of the betrayal. so agreed I felt so bad for Kyle at that and while Kyle was talking like the dog was trying to get out of Kyle's arms some of the time to go to go to West I can't it was really sad that's really sad yeah I feel bad for Kyle the one my one takeaway from this though is we know fast forward to now well I have two takeaways we know fast forward to now that West and Amanda did go to Europe together But what we watch when she's talking to Lindsay is Lindsay gets her convinced in her mind he's got to go.

1:14:40She's like, I know. He does have to go. And I'm like, girl, if you love him, die on the hill. If you don't and you can be convinced in one conversation he needs to go, he's got to go. And then and like so that to me was too wishy washy. Like that is not somebody standing ten toes down for their relationship. Which she was talking so much shit on him. Yeah. Like and it was just so easy for her to fall into that. Like Wes was standing by his choice and Amanda was not. Yeah. And so that was that was like unfortunate. But she also really spoke to what a vulnerable place she was in. But then we take action, Harrison.

1:15:17Then we look at the actions of people. West is calling Mija. So West is just standing. He's just standing by his actions when the camera is there to Kyle. But we know he's calling Mija on the side. So what did you think, Jules? I'm so kind of to what you're saying. Like I'm so over this situation because their actions and their words, they don't match. And I'm just like, I just want to know what's really all going on. Like just do what you say and say what you do kind of thing. I'm bored. And neither are doing that. But don't Amanda's actions reflect reality, which is like I'm in such an emotional, vulnerable, dark place.

1:15:59And I'm just looking for love. And I'm just looking for male attention. and like even if that attention now not her words but it's like even if that attention is very low quality that's clearly what she's wanting and so wes is giving her low quality attention which is working and then you know he's still letting his dog out elsewhere like i feel like it actually all it all lines up i'm not confused by the situation i'm just wes is out there dude i think you just nailed it actually now now that you say that and amanda is broken and it's so sad and she's so sad and she's saying like she's just sitting there questioning like did i ruin my life she's angry her tears are not all sad she's saying she's angry at herself xyz but she's not doing anything about it and then we've got him and that's really like she needs ironically like this is a time where you need your friends and your family to pick you up and put you back on track because she didn't ruin her life what she did was she took several steps back and she did not ruin her life by any means she just needs to get it together she needs to get it together and she needs to make the hard choices to get it back on track yeah and pay the price there's going to be a little price you pay damn when i look at where Like when I look at the city, the city clips and the past she was on.

1:17:33But a Lindsay tells her that you had the you had the keys to the world. She just needs to go. She just nailed it. She's like, you messed up so bad that it made everyone forget what a crappy husband Kyle was. That really jumped out to me. Yeah. The juxtaposition of them on this aftermath show as compared to the what's it? Finale. Uh huh. The. Reunion. Yes. Like it is more and more clear that they were just like on something. A hundred percent. Like they were both pretty switched on during these aftermath conversations. I didn't think Wes was. You didn't know? I thought he, I thought that his performance, like I thought Amanda reflected real emotional raw vulnerability and I feel like I really understand, like I feel like I understand her situation now um which is really fucking sad like it's really fucking sad uh versus wes i feel like is still out there just like he didn't he went over to kyle's house and he didn't have anything to say he didn't say a fucking thing and kyle said he didn't have a game plan and i don't think kyle needed a game plan it was on west to have a game plan and and and he didn't deliver And it just very much feels like all these things that people are saying about him, which is inherently this guy will go with the wind towards whatever's in vogue, feels very true.

1:19:05Yeah, but why did they go to Italy together? Did she just say— Because she doesn't have anyone right now. That's what I'm saying. And her friends turned on her, and she's being—she's getting the love from Wes. And so I would assume that after that conversation with Lindsay, she went over to Wes. She, you know, played hardball, and he talked her right back into coming. Think about how good Wes is with his words, that he still has miha. That's insane. Like, on— And it's funny because we don't even see him being so good with his words. He delivers them in such a nonchalant way that you don't realize he hooked you.

1:19:49Because there's no charisma behind what he's saying. He's just delivering it like this. Very funny, though. You watch him on his podcast clips. He's got a ton to say. He has a different personality on his podcast. It's all very confusing. Yeah. Yeah, but nonetheless, Bravo did a really good job piecing this timeline together and giving us actual dates. Like, this was May. But this is where, when I hope, Bravo dies. is I hope they shoot this summer real time.

1:20:21I hope that as well. My friends are like very against that because what my friend said is like, all of this is very interesting, but like they are not inherently like all that interesting and it takes them the time to put these storylines together and edit them versus like a Love Island where actually interesting things are going on that you don't need story. But I think this summer you're going to get that interesting things because you have Kyle who's single and making out with the world, it appears. It does appear. You have Lindsay on her path. What's going on with Carl? The last piece that I think we should touch on is Wes officially not on this season of Summer House.

1:21:08Yes. And looking back, now seeing it all, it is clear that he was being blessed to take the franchise over. And I think had he not done this, that Carl and Kyle are off the season. Yeah. And they'd be able to behind Wes and his friends. Talk about the, what's it called? The stream? And Jesse. What do we call it? Butterfly effect? Butterfly effect. Jesse will remain on. Will he? I think. Right? Well, I think, but... He should. Of course. I think everyone besides West is going to remain on now. Which I don't, like... As morally correct as that is, it is not as fun to watch. Right, because I feel like it's almost like he's getting away with it.

1:21:57I agree. Not having to now go face up to his demons the next summer. But you can't live in a house with these people he betrayed. Sure can. You would just be fistfights. That's reality television. I agree. And Kyle actually is not fist-biting this guy. He's not. Kyle's not mad. But I think what we've learned with Kyle is Kyle sober. Yes. Awesome. Right. Kyle drunk is the problem. And I think, like, the only reason why Amanda could have been with him for 10 years is because his sober self is probably great. Amazing. But then he just doesn't know how to control the drinking. drinking and so you see and so when he drinks you see this other side of him that's you know highly confrontational and stays out super late and so how does that mesh how did those emotions mesh like he said on the reunion he's like i'm not gonna drink right how did he do on the reunion great and it was the best decision he made yeah yeah and i think the other thing is you know he said on there to west one thing that's giving me peace about this whole thing is i have love for Amanda but I'm not in love with Amanda so it did give me confidence about how Kyle's feeling and navigating it and I do think we'll be able to see Kyle move on to somebody else he's like making out with the world isn't he as he should be yeah but we keep seeing photos of it it's really cracking me up yeah okay I feel like we have time for one last thing okay so somebody in the comments we We were discussing Diet Coke and why some bars charge you for Diet Coke as others don't charge you for Diet Coke.

1:23:34Diet Coke and other soft drinks from the fountain are given free at bars in many parts of the country to encourage having a designated driver. Love that. In New York City and Austin, people are generally not driving, so the bars, I don't think, have free Diet Cokes are as common. Makes total sense. Yeah. Total, total sense. So then I was thinking about this. when a waiter comes up and blows up your spot on an elk versus non-alk beverage. Yep. I remember being pregnant and we would go early, you and I, and we would say, okay, I'm going to get a mocktail. Please don't come over here and tell the table it's a mocktail because I'm trying to not tell them I'm pregnant.

1:24:12Yeah. So if I usually drink a beer, if I'm like a, let's say I'm a Miller Lite girl and we're out at a restaurant and I order a beer and it's non-alk because I'm, you know, four or five weeks pregnant trying not to tell my friends. and then the waiter's like, that's the non-alc. Totally. Do you know what everyone's into saying in unison? Oh my God, are you pregnant? And that's why we need to get to a point. Non-alc drinks have gained enough prevalence that the waiter collective community needs to stop identifying when you order non-alc that's non-alc. Reason number one, obviously, the pregnancy side.

1:24:50and reason number two, other people's personal factors. We get it. We know what we're ordering. But this is what I was thinking about. I'm sure that the wait staff is being told to make sure to double click on the fact that it is a non-alc. That's actually a crazy mindset. Why are you not letting us know, hey, that wine has 5 % alcohol in it? Or, okay, you ordered the margarita, 40 % alcohol. Like, why are you letting us know? Why are we like saying, bringing attention to the non-alc? You can drive after non-alc. So we don't need to let it know. I wouldn't be surprised if it was like driven by the restaurants because I'd assume inherently that the more drinks people – like you're going to consume more.

1:25:33If you go for dinner and you order a non-alcohol margarita versus an alco margarita, I assume the alcohol drinker will probably have four to five and the non-alcohol will probably have one to two. Okay, other than money, which I'm not interested in, right, I can't think of a reason to identify it's a non-alc. I can think of a million reasons to identify it's alc. Like, the only thing is I'll drink, like, a virgin mojito if I want something fun. And, like, I've been brought a regular mojito before, so that's the only thing I can think of that they're like, hey, I am triple confirming to you that this has no alcohol in it.

1:26:13Oh, for the non-alc person. But if you're ordering a non-alcoholic, if you're arguing a virgin mojito and that's what you order, then they go back and they say, here's the virgin mojito. Versus if you're getting the best day Pilsner, please come back and say, here's the best day Pilsner. Don't say, here's the best day non-alcoholic Pilsner. Yeah, we're just asking for a little more discretion, right? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, maybe we could do like a wink. Because I feel pressure to drink when other people are drinking. well and that's you got to explore that so lastly do we want to talk a little bit about more spacex ipo follow-up or save it for friday maybe we save it for friday yeah let's save it for friday because this is some interesting tidbits okay let's save it for friday one one thing to maybe hit on is the the dad's in the bathroom yes okay we had a clip a while back about where does dad go to the bathroom with his daughter there is now a girl dad going viral for bringing his two young daughters into a bathroom there is a man and a woman like standing outside the door and they called the police on the on the dad for being in the woman's restroom with his two young daughters and these poor little girls are crying because like the the people that are calling the police are hostile and this dad is being so polite and just trying to wash his daughter's hands.

1:27:42First of all the call I did read the comments on this apparently the dad completely kept his cool. He did. And everyone was saying like go dad. Amazing. Where I struggle is the lack of empathy or putting yourself in somebody else's shoes from the couple outside the door. Yeah. When there's zero, it feels from this situation, there's zero elements of even somewhat questionable behavior. Right. Also, why like the woman go inside and say, hey, dad, it could be a little weird that you're like you. I'm confident adults can handle this. Yeah. And even if she went in and said, hey, like, you know, let me take them.

1:28:25Let me take him. There were so many girls in the comments saying, do I would go in and take him. I'll just take him. I got it. I got it, Dad. Hey, Dad, some girls feel weird that you're in here. I got the girls. I'll bring them right to you. We're better than this as society. I agree. If you have a problem, if there's any reason that there is a problem, we need to be able to talk these types of things out rather than just whip around, call the police and create real trauma for these girls. Because now any time these girls need to go to the bathroom in public, like, you know how vulnerable young minds are.

1:29:04Yes. Like, this is going to affect them for years and years and years. Like, that's just not fair. Additionally, so the flip side of this is, okay, I'm assuming there's no family bathroom here. I'm just guessing that. Or maybe it was taken. And maybe the person had been in there for five minutes and one of the girls, like, I have to pee. And so the dad's like, she's going to pee on the floor. So we're going to the bathroom. So the flip side of this is he takes these young girls into the men's bathroom, which he clearly doesn't feel safe doing. So he made a decision and said, I'm taking the girls into the girls' bathroom.

1:29:34The stalls close. He, like, I just, I have a really hard time thinking we needed to call the police. Yeah. So what did the police do? Do we know? No. We don't know. I'm going to go dig into this. I have an etiquette question. Okay. So you get to the family bathroom. You see it's locked. You go up and you pull the handle down gently to let the person know that you are outside in there. Okay? I'm very supportive of that move. The next question is, how long do you have until you do a second handle pull-down reminder? Well, it's depending. Is your flight taking off or are you at the airport? I'm saying general theme.

1:30:16You're with your kids and your kids need to go to the bathroom. How long do you wait? you know what i would do a knock i would do one more knock and just be like is it but how long between the first little knock and the second it depends on how budget it depends on your kid your kid will be the the assuming assuming your kid needs to go i'm going up i'll go up one minute later knock on the door and say hey all good that you're in there i've got a daughter right here that needs to pee should we go into the main bathroom or are you one minute out so very very interesting never even done this before your take is to communicate i agree with that if there's because i'm assuming there's a family inside and maybe she's changing three diapers and there's a blowout and in that case like she needs the bathroom and i'd be like sorry it's a mess we're taking five more minutes like we just are because i find that over 50 percent of the time the people in the family room aren't with families and then that's fine they can tell you that so that's what i need to know is like if you're in there with the family then we'll go we'll go different or if you need the bathroom if you're an individual in there like you get up right away yeah if you're just going to the bathroom and just using it because it was open and you walked by and thought whatever i'll use it yeah let's but i think you communicate that like hey i've got a little girl here who really needs to pee totally are we close totally yeah but i'm i'm upset about the situation of calling the cops because so many people.

1:31:42Big update. What? The neighbors are here for Father's Day. Wow. Harrison really wanted to have the neighbors over for barbecue. I wanted to barbecue Sunday night. I think we're going to do fried chicken. That's not barbecue. Symbolic barbecue. People come over, cook out. I want to cook out. Sorry. You're right. You're totally right. I want to cook out for Father's Day. Harrison, you need to ask him what he wants. But he's so nice. He'll want what you want. He wrote in the chat. Fried chicken? Yeah. Wow. That came from him. Wow. Okay, that actually is nice because I was like, now what are we going to do?

This week on Two Parents & A Podcast, happy Wednesday (so weird it’s not Thurs?!) - we are OFFICIALLY 3 episodes a week… AND tomorrow we officially launch our SUBSTACK!!! 📝 We get into everything you can expect: a weekly newsletter including my favorite things I've been reading & learning, the best baby/toddler/mom products we're actually using, our podcast TLDR, plus exclusive live content, chat access & Q&A. Coming Thursdays at $6/month or $48/year ($4/month) — we are SO excited!!! You can subscribe here NOW: https://substack.com/@alexfugman !!!

You guys we are ALL IN on the World Cup - there’s so many story lines: Argentina is BANNING 13K dads who haven't paid child support from going to the games (can we do this in the US?!), why Japan is the most beloved team in the tournament (the fans clean up the trash after the game out of respect for the host country?!) and the Cape Verde goalie who went from 40K to 9.1M FOLLOWERS overnight after tying Spain (the Taylor Swift of the World Cup) in their first World Cup ever.

And because Father's Day is THIS WEEKEND, we put together some last minute gift ideas (+ more coming on the Substack tomorrow!!!).

Plus, the life advice we got from a billionaire dad (our cliff hanger from last week), Harrison's 2 weeks off social media update (he's now a desktop-only kind of guy), the nanny share is BACK at our house & we might be adding a 3rd kid (!!), house updates (fences, front doors & blue porch ceilings to keep wasps away?!), and a debrief on whether Alex & Jules gang up on Harrison (hi Nori Minich!!).

Plus, our shared finances dynamic ("WE bought a purse!!!"), our Summer House aftermath thoughts (we genuinely feel for Amanda now??), why waiters need to STOP announcing the non-alc beer orders (you're outing pregnancies!!!), and the viral dad who got the cops called on him for taking his daughters into the women's bathroom (where do we even start with this one).

LOVE YOU GUYS!
