In short

The hosts discuss “doorbell friends” (neighbors who just walk in), how reduced in-person social interaction may relate to falling teen alcohol use, parenting anxieties/OCD intrusive thoughts (NoCD ad), planning a Memorial Day block party, restaurant “lemon water” etiquette, starting a monthly book club, pop-culture commentary (Nick Lachey/Jessica Simpson flight), date-night planning, and a one-month postpartum update for “Rocky” (sleep, workouts, alcohol moderation).

Guest backgrounds

No guests appear; it’s a two-host podcast (“Two Parents”). The episode includes ads and fanfare but no interview guests.

Key claims

Teen alcohol decline correlates with fewer daily in-person interactions (more FaceTime/group chat) rather than just health consciousness. Over-parenting/paranoia may reduce kids’ freedom despite improved safety metrics. Intrusive “what if I hurt the baby?” thoughts can be OCD-like and treatable with ERP (NoCD).

Notable examples

Doorbell friends leaving phones at home and walking into neighbors’ houses; a chart comparing teen drinking and daily social interaction drops (2000–2022). Memorial Day block party ideas (watermelon seed spitting, three-legged race). Book club picks include Strangers and Yesteryear. Rocky is one month old; the host starts gym walking and limits alcohol to 1–2 nights/week.

Done hoping it looks anything like the picture when you tear open that envelope? It's time for a little in-person spring treat. It's time for a trip to Ross. Work your magic. Who's programming today? You. Really? here's the iPad we can just do it off the top of the dome did you guys use the word dome growing up I still use it off the dome off the dome yeah okay you know what we can talk about let's welcome them I'll do it ready I guess this was the prequel I think I've turned into someone very annoying at the neighbor's house you have you go over there every morning and you leave your phone at home and you stay for like 45 minutes like i feel bad for uh not for neighbor t but for neighbor him because like every morning she just like walks in i'm just sitting in the kitchen it feels like a scene out of like a out of a sitcom have you guys seen that this is a trend right now it's called um door doorbell friends doorbell friends no i'm an annoying neighbor trend you just show up and i'm sitting in your house wait it's it's like the concept that we don't have these doorbell friends anymore where you can just walk over ring their doorbell and like go in and nothing's wrong like you have to have a plan with everyone and blah blah blah so you guys have doorbell friends we do we don't even ring the doorbell no they don't ring our doorbell yeah fully open we don't even ring the doorbell we just go in because what did we do the other day yesterday we had dinner with other neighbors and they brought the leftovers after and they like walked into the house put it in and i walked in and they're in the kitchen so it's not just one neighbor it's your other neighbors so you guys have doorbell friends that this is what the the world is yearning for right now so jules i think hold on welcome back to another episode of two parents in a podcast i think a lot about this and in my mind i call it the 90s childhood right like why are we getting so far away from like colorful houses, messy houses, walking on this, just like normalizing, doing nothing, having no plan, and then just walking over to your friend's house and being like, do you guys just want to go get food?

3:05There's a very obvious answer for this, and it ties into something that we're going to talk about later in the podcast, which is the reduction of drinking of high schoolers. And that is the hang, well, so there's a chart that we're going to talk about. I think there's going to be tweet of the week, and it was something along the lines of 92 % of high schoolers in the 80s had drank alcohol. Okay. And now that number is like 47%. And so I think that what I saw a lot on Twitter, like the general read of this, is we're living in this like new health conscious society and kids aren't drinking because they're aware of the health consequences.

3:47While I think that may be a part of it, I think that's probably a much smaller part of it than people think. And I think the larger factor of what's going on is decreased social interaction. And so to dive back to this point, the reason why you're not just walking over to your neighbor's house or walking over to a friend's house is because you're FaceTiming them. And so the FaceTime or the group chat is taking away from the park hang. And if you look at daily social interactions amongst high schoolers, they've fallen at the same rate. Daily social interactions have fallen at the same rate as alcohol consumption.

4:30Can I dispel something maybe? Yes. Yeah. The drinking age changed to 21 in 1984. It was 18 before. But it doesn't – when you look at that chart, it doesn't really matter because you could start it at 2000. Yeah, true. And I actually think the apples to apples comparison on daily social interaction is from 2000 to 2022 because they don't have the data from beforehand. Yeah. And I think you see like a 34 % decrease in drinking over that period and a 36 % decrease in daily social interactions with a friend outside of school. And so inherently what's happening amongst high schoolers is happening amongst our generation as well, which is like we have a group chat.

5:16We FaceTime people and so on and so forth. So I need a TLDR. Basically, we used to interact a lot more together. Now we're FaceTiming. We're doing less in-person interactions so that there's a correlation there to drinking. well when when we were in 12th grade if we wanted to see a friend we would go to a park and we would hang out with the friend yeah okay now what's very much happening is teenagers are staying at home they're on facetime and they're facetiming their friends on a night while playing video games yeah And they feel like they were social, but they weren't. And then there's an element of over-parenting in the house.

6:07There's a lot more freedom amongst 12th graders in the 80s, 90s, early 2000s than there is now. Because kids are going to the park and they're going to the park without cell phones. And without Life 360. Yeah, they're being watched every which way now. Now, also what's happening is I think the LA fires were a really good example of this. Like that happened in it. If that would have happened 20, 30 years ago, we would have never had TikTok to give us like live streams of it. Like Spencer Pratt literally boots on the ground making a TikTok of the fire coming. Like that's too much for like we're not supposed to be able to absorb that.

6:42But equally, we're not supposed to be able to absorb all the bad things that can happen to kids. Like that didn't used to be so mainstream. And so I think it's it's created a large amount of paranoia. Yeah. And that paranoia goes against the improving safety metrics that have also happened over that period. Totally. So things are much safer today for children when it comes to the consistent parental concerns a la kidnapping. Drowning. I think drowning. It's water safety month right now. I wouldn't know that if it were social media. Yes. We're kind of talking about two different things. I hate when that happens.

7:21That's totally fine. I hate when we're talking about two different things. But then safety issues that we're not as focused on, a la online predators, we're under-parenting towards. Did I lose y 'all? No. Okay. Cool. Well, that's not what we were supposed to talk about. Yeah. At the top of the episode. We were supposed to talk about today when I crashed our neighbors. Not crashed. Oh. When I just was sitting in their kitchen as they woke up. Just kidding. They were already awake? Thank goodness. They were awake. No, but today's daily morning coffee conversation was Memorial Day plans. And there are rumblings pending your approval.

8:10Okay. Of a block party barbecue. And I wanted to give you the game plan for the barbecue. I'm very excited. Yes. I obviously approve of that. So food, we're going to keep it down the middle. We're going to go Burger's Dogs. Yep. The barbecue that we're getting for Outdoor Kitchen, we're going to get that barbecue this week so we can use it. The actual barbecue? The actual barbecue. The actual barbecue set? The actual barbecue set. Okay. Device, the device. The device. We're going to do live music. Who's doing the music? So that's the big thing we need to figure out. We're going to have a band?

8:49We're going to have a band. You guys should get Ken's boyfriend, Bobby. Okay. He just posted he's available and taking on clients or something like that. He wants to do at-home parties. Oh, my gosh. And he's good. He's good. Okay. So I don't know who you're talking about, but I love that you have an idea. I know who she's talking about. Okay. Perfect. Contests. We're going to do watermelon and contest. You must. All-American. for the kids we're gonna do a watermelon seed spitting contest do people do that? well apparently that was a big thing in neighbor T's house growing up I was like for the kids we can do we can do an eating contest we can do a lemonade choking contest I thought the choking hazards were just unnecessary but we need to give them a contest must, what about the three legged race we're gonna do bobbing of apples great and that is kind of everything okay you have to do a winning and tate three-legged race oh my gosh we have to do you know what a three-legged race is yeah we have those in canada okay they made it up there good to know oh my gosh i don't know if they'd comprehend now here's the big question oh the big unknown should the block party be sunday or monday because memorial day is typically is is monday oh it's got to be sunday i think it should be sunday at least and why because that way like you have monday you have monday monday's always a bit of a buzz kill because you got a tuesday and you don't want to roll into work after the big memorial day party correct one thing about our block is everyone seems to work from home but yeah i'm i'm a little yeah i'm torn on this because i think there's something special about having it on memorial day neighbor t wants it on monday okay so that's kind of yeah so there's four of us voting and he's voting for monday i'm gonna vote for sunday okay i feel like it could be monday in a world where today wasn't the monday before memorial day you know people might already have plans when's when's memorial day next week we have to reach out to bobby asap yeah that this was a thing That was the other thing we were talking about.

11:08It's like we need to pull it together. The other thing about having a newborn. Oh, Bobby. I thought you were talking about the formula brand. We must reach out to them. ASAP. Our favorite formula. We do. We love his favorite formula. We do love Bobby. Trusted by over 800 ,000 babies and counting. But I will say we were talking about Bobby the musician. Bobby something Murray. I did not realize him. Okay, so when you have. Can we call him? Do we know him? We don't know him. Do you know Ken Urich? She's adorable. She's an influencer here in Austin. It's her boyfriend. That's who we're talking about.

11:36Nice. Yeah. So anyways, we'll contact him. But – Is her name Ken or Kennedy? Kennedy. Okay. But I think we just call her Ken for short. The thing about having a newborn baby is you don't know – like a lot of times Harrison and I will be like, what day is it? Like we don't know the day of the week, much less do I know that Memorial Day is a week from today. I almost wish you wouldn't have told me about the party because I will spend the next week hyper fixating on details and – But that's why. I think it's fun. We're going to need to rally all the troops. When do you guys want to record for Monday?

12:13Anytime. We're here. I think we've got to record on Monday. Yeah. We didn't realize we were... Especially if we're doing the barbecue on Sunday. I agree. That's why I was going to say do it Sunday. Yes. So I think that that will be the tell is whatever day we do the barbecue, we'll record the other day. Okay. No, we can't do the barbecue Monday and record Sunday and not have done the barbecue yet. Huge miss. Okay. So I got to tell neighbor T, listen, the barbecue Sunday. You may influence my vote. No, no, no. I'm good either way. Guys, let's talk about no CD because there you are at the baby's finally asleep.

12:48The house is quiet when unwanted thoughts crash the party. Moms, I know you know what I'm talking about. And you start to think, did I accidentally hurt the baby and not realize it? What if I'm a terrible parent? Everyone can see it but me. And the thoughts go on and on and on. Your brain grabs on to that thought and it will not let it go. And here's the thing. A lot of new parents experience exactly this, and it's not just anxiety. Those thoughts that feel sticky, repetitive, and impossible to shake might actually be signs of OCD. And that's where NoCD comes into play. It's the world's leading provider of OCD treatment, and it's covered by insurance for over 138 million Americans.

13:25All of their licensed therapists specialize in ERP therapy and help you learn to take the power away from intrusive thoughts in live face-to-face virtual sessions. They also provide support between sessions, so you're never facing OCD alone. If those unwanted thoughts are taking over, don't wait to get help. Visit NoCD.com to book a free call with their team. That's N-O-C-D.com. The other thing is we are recording a little earlier than we would normally today, and why is that? Because the pool is officially starting. I thought the pool had started. I told everyone it started. Well, no, because we had to move the pipes.

14:00And now the pipes have been moved and the move has been approved by the city. Now we can actually start digging. Okay. Well, potato, potato. It's not potato, potato. We had another step. That step was a big step. That step was not in the budget. Okay. That step was not in the budget. Okay. It was an unforeseen spend. But on the other side, we did like the initial deck improvements. I think they came out very good. Potato, tomato. That's what it was. They were not the same thing, but they were close. So we did redo our deck. Harrison did it. And he got me an area. He came upstairs and he said, I want you to come see your Mahjong area.

14:36And I got a Mahjong area. It's not furnished, but it's allocated. It's allocated. It's an allocated Mahjong area, which I'm very excited about. We're doing a deck repair, not a deck rebuild. And I think the bones are good enough. Our deck on the back of our house is awesome. We have the really cool view of downtown Austin. And we never used it. It was a disaster. It needed some work. And we finally did it. No, no, no, no. We did a bit of the work. We still have 50 % to 75 % more work to do on it. Looks great to me. I think I'm good. Really? Sure. It just needs a little bit of paint touch up. Yeah.

15:12So we're going to sand it down. We're going to paint it. It needs to be screened in. We're going to screen it in and then fix up a couple of floorboards. Okay. Also, Mr. Host, what are we talking about today? And are we going to three episodes in June? Well, Jules is on vacation. Oh, yeah. Oh, sorry. Jules is traveling. Sorry. Very supportive of vacation. So we're going to delay. We're going to delay the third episode. We've never put a date into the universe. June 1. Until Jules is done on the beach. June 15th. When Jules is back on the beach. It's a rare day that Jules does this. Yeah. Does a request.

15:48Therefore, it's always granted. The people know I requested live on the pod. It's hard to edit from the beach. Is it technically the beach? I don't know. I think it's a little caught. I think we're actually going. Where are you going? Cape Cod. Cape Cod. We know this. Oh, this is where you're going? Yeah. Yes. Oh, that's well worth the delay. Yeah. Totally. I want to go. That's why me and my friend's 30th birthday trip, we're doing all of our together. I retract everything you said. Jules, do you like lobster rolls? I do. I hope you have at least one a day. I will be. Probably. And I hope you do some good searching and you do some drives to find some different ones.

16:27We got two cars. like we're good. Well, my memory is gone. And I'm just, I let everyone else handle that and I just go along for the ride and it's great. I'm not worried about Jules planning anything. I'm very not worried about it. I have full faith. Okay. Okay. In Jules' ability to navigate. I'll give the run down on what we're talking about because I'm trying to do it off the dome as they say. Did you say dome growing up? Yep. I'm kidding. I remember that I said that. That's like, oh my God. All right. We're going to talk a bit about the first one month of Rocky Bears. So we're going to talk about, ooh, a little thing about eating before events.

17:04Okay. Very noteworthy. Alex is starting a book club. And we're going to talk about Alex's book club. Yeah. Hopefully, P cut to the edit on Jules' face. She did not know we were going to talk about that. She did not know that was a thing. Well. We got some pop culture tea to get into. We're going to respond to something in the comments. Oh, juicy. What is it? Can we do it now? Let's do it now. I want to do it now. Okay. What is it? we're going to talk about this lemon water situation no one's ever hated something more than people hate lemon water okay so give me give me give me the the rundown what were people saying well the general consensus is it's actually not about the hot lemon water itself it's that they know what type of guy you are what type of girl you are if you order you order hot water with lemon you are going to complain apparently about everything and be like the most high maintenance customer that they've ever had oh it's a stereotype yeah okay that that ultimately because P and I have been discussing this.

17:59We've both worked in restaurants. It's such a non-event to get some on a hot water with lemon. There's like a spigot and you get the lemon. The lemons are always pre-cut. That's an opening shift chore. Okay. But it's your personality apparently. Okay. I didn't know we were going that way because when I was going to come down, I was going to further defend my claim that you should need to pay for lemon with water and it should be the same price as tea. And the reason why is you need to put the same level of effort into the lemon water as you do a tea. You just described it, Jules. Boom. Spick it.

18:36That's what it's called? Spick it? So you spick at the hot water. Instead of grabbing the bag of tea, you're grabbing the lemon. You need to grab a lemon with tea? It's the same. It's tomato, tomato. No. Charge with lemon with the hot water. Are you charging now for the table water with the ice that you have to go separately get from the ice machine? put it from the ice water thing. No, no, we need to charge less. No. We need to stop charging for everything. No. I agree. Two bucks. And so you want your water not for free anymore. Water is the only thing, water and bread are the only thing for free.

19:10Cold water. We just opened a new can of worms. No, Jules has no bring this. Restaurants that charge for bread. That drives me crazy. Well, what about restaurants that charge for hot water with lemon? That's not driving you crazy? Here's where I go. I would be so mad. I've got to talk about Clark's for a second. We love Clark's. Clark's a great restaurant here in Austin. They don't charge for hot water and lemon. Clark's has some of the best bread that exists. Sour dough with butter. It's the same bread that they get at Swedish Hell and the whole ecosystem. It's just really good, high-quality bread.

19:48They bring like half a loaf of this thing. if they don't charge for the bread then no one should be charging for the bread they've set the standard they bring bread with this really nice butter salt the radishes the radishes on the side like this is a a dish that i think 95 of other restaurants would charge for they don't and it just adds so much to the experience of the restaurant and i think it speaks to how they do how they do everything. So that's what I'm getting to. It drives me crazy when restaurants charge for charge for the bread. You're talking out of both sides of your mouth here though.

20:25And then you would like them to charge for hot water with lemon? Because let me, let me just quote you for a moment here. It goes a long way to Harrison with Harrison. And it does for me as well. If you, if a hotel doesn't charge for the little things, for example, coffee in the morning, you, you like these little added perks. So it's very interesting that you're sitting you're saying they should charge for hot water i think hot water with lemon is an annoying order that's what i should be charged for okay i guess that's what it comes down to yeah it's annoying like your water when you sit down like that's standard the bread with butter when you go to restaurant that's standard a hot water with lemon is so custom it's annoying you should charge for it it's like ordering a tea then let that be your take it's annoying so you got to charge for the inconvenience i had to massage that out okay that i'm fine with because it wasn't making sense earlier.

21:12Okay. All right. And then Tweet of the Week, we were going to talk about alcohol consumption falling amongst teens. We're going to pivot and we're going to bring in a new Tweet of the Week. What is the Tweet going to be? Well, we'll see. We'll see if we even get there. So you know what I want to get into now? What? After I finished reading what we're going to talk through today. What? Can you guess? My book club? Your book club on the topic of reading. Okay. So my, how did it all start? Well, you've been reading. you've crushed two books since he's been born. Yeah, I have been reading every night while I pump because if I look at my phone, I just know not to do that.

21:50So I'm not allowing myself to look at my phone in the middle of the night.

21:56And it's just funny because last night I did look at my phone because I finished my book and my other book arrives today. So I had a gap. And in order to stay awake, I said no social media. So I just scrolled shopping websites, honestly, to see what they had. but okay so I started reading and I sent a photo of the book I was reading to this group text I have that also does the swim lessons with us and I was like does anybody have a book recommendation after I finished strangers because I read strangers by Bell Burden which a lot of people deemed me that they had read or they wanted to read it's a 10 out of 10 it was so good but then everyone started responding back being like I have read that and I've always wanted to do a book club.

22:35So we were like, okay, let's do a book club. So we've all ordered the book called Yesteryear. Has anyone read it? Okay. No one's read it. Um, no, because it was a book in the chat that nobody had read either. So we're all going to read it and we're going to start today. And then once a month, we're going to rotate who hosts and we're going to meet and we're going to talk about, we're going to meet at 7 30 PM on Wednesdays. And, um, we're going to talk about the book i love this in theory okay okay what i hope is i hope this is something that sticks and i feel like with book clubs most of the time you kind of like do them for a month and then they fall apart i agree and so i hope that this becomes like a 12-month thing because in theory that sounds amazing you're reading a book a month like you have this fun social get together with this great group of friends once in a month.

23:27I love it. I hope it lasts. That's kind of my take here. And I think part of the beauty of putting it out there is it forces it to kind of gives you an extra push. Well, I'm a good, like I never missed a dance class. I don't miss swimming lessons. I'm very good at doing things for Bubber. Where I let things fall to the wayside is if I'm doing them for me sometimes. So I do hope that we do keep doing this. I think the summer will make it hard. but I'm excited even if we do too. And I think that, here's another thing. I've watched how much you've loved reading these past two books. You've absolutely cruised through them.

24:05You've gotten very good book recommendations and I feel like that's a major key here. And how are you getting these book recommendations? Are they coming from your question box? No, so the best three books I've read this year is Mean Moms. That's the best book I've read in the past five years. Mean Moms, Next to Heaven, and Strangers. So if you want, these are juicy. Actually, Mean Moms and Strangers are based on, so Strangers is the wife who got divorced writing the story herself. Mean Moms is about a group of moms in New York City, and it's based on real people, and they didn't change their name so much.

24:50So Belle in the book, her name's actually Nell in real life. She's the founder of Hill House. Like, it's – so that one's – I don't know. What do you call that? You like things like loosely based in reality but are fiction. Correct. Yes. Thank you, Jules. And that's what this other one that you just mentioned is. Next to Heaven? No, Yesteryear. Yesteryear's also that? Yeah. Okay, good. Well, Strangers, isn't that the book that makes women hate their husbands? Yes. It's everywhere right now. I got so many DMs about this. and one of our friends texted us and was like, oh my God, careful. This book made X hate me.

25:25Can I just tell you about it a little bit? I'd love to hear because you're so into it. Well, I'm done with it now but this is the reason I don't want to spoil it for people. Spoiler alert. Okay, spoiler alert. Or give a teaser. Be like, give a teaser to get people to pick up the book and read it.

25:43Sell me this pen, Alex. Sell me this pen. And what's the movie where he takes the pen and says, can you write your name? Same movie. Yeah. Yeah. Um, recently watched that. Okay, listen, I'm not going to tell you about strangers. I'm just going to tell you I don't know anyone who's read it who hasn't liked it, okay? And it's based on a true story about a divorce and a woman finding herself. And it's awesome, okay? A woman who was scorned by a man.

27:33No, but that's not even it. And who found her best self out of the divorce. No, she wasn't scorned by the man, though. Like she, this is the only tidbit I'll give that's really fascinating to me. Okay. That's what I'm looking for. So they bought a house in Nantucket or somewhere like that. Cape Cod. Cape Cod perhaps. You heard of it? Her, her parents left her two trust funds. One from her mom, like one from her grandpa and what, like she had two trust funds. Okay. She bought their, she paid for their down payment on their apartment in New York City with one of them. She paid for the house in Nantucket with the other one of them.

28:09Then her husband comes to her. a couple years later, says, we should put the house in both of our names. She's like, we should. We should do that. But she paid for him. In the divorce, he tried to execute the right that he owned half of each house. So that's just one little tidbit of the rest of what he did. Sounds like she was scorned. So James, I'm assuming he's been Googled a lot. Yeah, I do just love this scenario. Of this guy who, like, it appears was so wrongful and now is just getting outed. No, but she's also – once I finished it, I didn't have such a bad taste in my mouth because she gives such good color of the way that they were both raised and what happened to them.

28:57And so she's able to explain what she actually thinks is happening inside its brain. Okay. All right. Well, it sounds like a book that should be picked up. It's a lovely read. I'm all interested. did she's a quite a badass for writing it too because the people in her social circle weren't so keen on her you know it's it wasn't very popular for a woman to out a man like that from where she was from she was saying and she just did it because she had a fire burning inside of her and so she she listened to that and it's it's a really lovely story interesting yeah it's good and who should play her in the tv show okay so who should play her in the tv show um this is something that jules recommends for the book club which i think is like a fabulous idea you fan cast the tv show that's like the best um talking talking point for for a book club

29:49um who i'm i cannot believe i'm drawing a blank on her name oh my gosh bethany frankel no nicole kidman i was gonna say nicole kidman and i've not read this book yeah it just seemed like it Nicole Kidman is who I would cast. Okay, love it. Who would I cast for him? Who's Reese Witherspoon's ex-husband? I'm not sure. The father of the - Jeremy Pryor. No, Philippe. Something Philippe. Ryan Philippe. Ryan Philippe. Him. He's playing Philippe. Well, I made up Jeremy Pryor too. Yeah. Okay, so Reese Witherspoon's son graduated from NYU. Deacon. Okay. Deacon Philippe. Philippe, I believe. Philippe. Both parents went and it was a really sweet weekend.

30:27And then I also saw who else was co-parenting this weekend when their kid graduated. Well, this is a very good transition because I have something on the list here that I don't know what it is, but it says Jessica Simpson, Nick Lachey. Oh, yes. Okay, I wrote this down. So you know they were married, Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey. Yes, because I believe in my formative high school years when I wasn't at the park and I was being anti-social, I was watching a reality show of them. Did they do a reality show together? For like two seasons. and that's where that's where her famous like fish sandwich something happened or fish tuna salad newlyweds newlyweds yes newlyweds so they were married and it was 20 years ago and they haven't seen each other in 20 years and they end up on the same flight to Hawaii but the thing about it that everyone's kind of like latching on to is Nick and his wife and their kids were all in first class and Jessica and her mom were in first class but her kids and her husband were in coach and everyone's talking about like which family are you like they're in the comments being like pop off queen like as she should and people are like pop off king as he should because she probably is a lot more did they talk they talked so so andy cohen asked nick about it on something i don't know what that was like watch what happens god bless andy this guy's in the mix on everything yeah he just asked him he's like so you ran into jessica on your flight and And he was like, yeah, it was very cordial.

31:49I haven't seen her. Because he, I don't think it was an amicable divorce at the time. Yeah, I don't think so. But enough time has passed. I mean, 20 years. And they both have kids and family. But he doesn't know a lot about her, you could tell. Because he was like, I don't know if she's married to the guy. I don't know what the situation is. But he was in the back with the kids. And I don't know either if she's married to him, if maybe he's baby daddy. I don't know if they've been on and off. I don't know what it is. But he doesn't know either. Shocking that we haven't seen a comeback attempt from her.

32:16I feel like we've seen several comeback attempts from her we have so I guess we've just been unsuccessful yeah yeah and kind of like credit to Hilary Duff because like Hilary Duff feels like she's going out and having this moment and here's where Hilary Duff crushed it and Jessica Simpson did not Jessica Simpson has attempted a couple comebacks Hilary Duff did not attempt any and then she said I'm gonna do one comeback I'm gonna hire somebody to run my social media and she did it the right way and she's making a splash and she's going on tour and she was geared up for it. Is it still going well?

32:49Yeah, she's on a pressed, I mean, I'm going in Nashville. I'm so excited. That's so fun. I know my friends, so I'm going with Sydney who like we know is my best friend since I was in the womb and she's starting to send me outfit ideas. I mean, we're going to dress like we dressed whatever we loved Hilary Duff back in the day. Having a fun like guys or girls trip on the calendar like north of a month out is so much fun that I think you've motivated me to plant one as well well here's the thing about it too I booked my flight remember I remember we were like going to Home Depot and I was like I gotta book this because like it'll get away from me so like my flights booked the hotel's not booked we can book it yeah and but it's like we're going she bought the tickets paid her like we're we're set and so I'm like very excited about it because yeah i'm excited for you like that is you have to book it and go yeah two nights no we're doing one night because i didn't know how long i wanted to be away from the kids okay but like morning flight then it's a i'm a very early flight and i'm a like a 2 p.m departure the next day perfect because that's perfect in nashville actually there's one in the city and then there's there's like an iconic venue out in franklin that like is old we're going to the one Franklin is it the Grand Ole Opry no it wasn't I can't remember but Sydney asked a friend like which one should we go to and she was like logistically speaking if you can go to the one that's a little bit outside of the city you need to like hire a driver though like because you can't uber type thing if you can make that one happen it's an iconic venue and so I was like whatever let's do that okay fun fun fun yes it'll be great I need to think I want to think of one too.

34:33I don't think because I guess I have like my thing this week is a work thing, but it will be fun. Yeah, it will be really fun. It'll be really fun. Okay. So what do you think about Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson? I have no thoughts. I wish that I'd been briefed on this. He said it was cordial. He said he said that the siding was that they were everyone was cordial and nice and more than anything. Like what are the chances that they were on the same flight? If they live in LA very high no going to hawaii randomly if i was on the flight and nick lachey boarded i would be like that's crazy and then if jessica simpson boarded i would be like i'm losing my mind i would have lost my mind but this is why it's become a pop culture moment because what are the odds it's so great speaking of moments okay we've been having very nice couple moments as we've now gone back to back weeks with a date night.

35:27Yes, we sure have. I agree with that. But I want you to take me to dinner, just the two of us, because I want to sit there and talk to you. Yes. So one thing we've been doing on both of our date nights is we've done dinner with friends followed by an activity just with us. And I agree. I think that our next one just needs to be the two of us. Yeah, like I want to go to dinner just with you. Okay. And sit there and talk to you and have no phones. Here's my formal proposal. Okay, I accept. Will you go on a date with me on Saturday night? Saturday night? Yeah. What about Thursday? Okay. As the words came out of my mouth, I was going to say, can we please go on a date Thursday night?

36:04Yeah. Yes, I accept. Because Saturday night, I don't know. We might want to be with the kids. Who knows what we're going to want to do. But Thursday. No, I'm totally with you. And we discussed some other reasons for that. Yeah, I think doing a date night in the middle of the week is better. because these weekends get so chaotic. We start being like, let's do this. Let's do that. Let's go to story time. Let's blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And then to throw like a date. To have anything on Saturday night right now is overwhelming a bit because like the day's fun with the kiddos and then boom, before you know it, it's five or six o 'clock and then like you're supposed to get ready.

36:39There's no way. Okay. So a weekday, I'm a little bit more of a fan of because there's like a little bit more structure throughout the day. And Jules, did we want to talk about anything on the date nights beyond that? i don't i don't know sure i would love to hear about the night i don't know oh did you not put that on there i did but i i was just thinking what have you guys done and we went to george we've done back-to-back concerts we've been using concerts as an anchor to get out of the house so we did the heart country fest then we did george straight george straight was awesome just the moody theater setup the moody center the moody center setup is is just so good they bring in great acts it's like 12 minutes from our house the access in and out from uh a neighbor perspective is so easy and like we just love going there you'd be a great time love going there now where do we go from here i know where we go from here we do a parenting something with like what's going on with rocky or what's going on with like what about that one month okay no where did you want to go i wanted to talk about something a question for the group okay ask ask the class you have an event big event okay it's a it's a work-related thing is the hypothetical no yes and no loosely based on when you have a big event and they're serving dinner at the event Do you eat beforehand or do you eat dinner at the event?

38:16I snack beforehand and I fill up 80 % and I leave 20 % to lightly snack at the event. But the worst thing you can do is expect that the food's going to be A, good, and that there's going to be enough at the event. And B, what time are they serving it? Because if I get hungry, I start to go brain dead. See, I'm on a totally different angle here. I start the same as you, okay, where I eat, I get 80 % full before I go to an event. But the reason why I do it is different. I want to be at the event and I want to be social. I don't want to be focused on the food. And the problem, if I don't pre-eat, then the whole time I'm just like focused on the food, not on the activity, not on socializing and so on and so forth.

39:01I want the food to be an afterthought. Jules, where are you at here? You guys both need to be fed and watered. Like you're fed and watered people. Like I would never eat before an event if there was dinner there because I would eat there. And if I didn't get to eat there, I'd be fine. Like I don't get – I'm not saying that you guys get hangry by any means. Well, I do. I'll say it. Okay, fine. I don't get hangry. I would never call anyone else hangry, but I don't get hangry. So like food at an event for me, I'm like not – it's not my priority even if I'm hungry. So I'm sitting at a table, like, and so you can only have, because if I'm sitting at a table, I really want to get to know people, and there's a bunch of delicious food in front of me, and I'm hungry, like, I can't do both.

39:48Like, if you're eating, like, your mouth is just full the whole time. So I only want to have a couple bites. I don't know. I also see food as a way to, like, connect with people. It's an easy access point for conversation. the so-and-so is good you know yeah but nibbling so eating for conversation not eating to get full look i so i i had an event on thursday night of last week okay and i ate a full dinner before that event and then at the event i was able to socialize the entire time it was phenomenal i want to touch on something a little bit different here which is like the fact that jewels doesn't get hangry i don't know what that's like like what do you what do you think diabolical to do that to swirl your ice around mixing like what do you i don't know what it's like like my friend like some of my best friends they get very hangry and like i can't comprehend and like needing to get to a restaurant to sit down to eat before we can like converse because people are dying of hunger it just doesn't happen to me oh i don't i don't know what that's like to be able to like power through something not thinking about how hungry you are like my brain i always think in my head my brain starts to eat itself

42:38But I think today what I'm going to do is go sign up at a gym and just like walk on the treadmill. Out of, out of, it's a self-love play. I could walk around the neighborhood, but I'm going to go to the gym atmosphere. I'm going to put my headphones in. I'm going to put the treadmill on a little incline. I'm going to walk at a slow pace. I'm just going to see how it feels. You do a trial? I'm just going to see how it feels to be out and about around people. What are you going to sign up for? What do you mean? like are you going to sign up for a trial a one month a six month well equinox here is running a sale right now what's the sale um not a not not so the sale is that they have a 300 sign up fee okay and this month they're waiving it but are they then sticking you in for 12 months oh i don't know i just saw that they're running equinox is typically 12 months that sucks i just encourage like you're very specific about your workout so i encourage you to get a trial in before you commit to something i don't want to go anywhere for 12 months i want to be month to month i don't know if lifetime is month to month but i've heard that new one has a good kids area it does jules but here's what i'm worried about with it i just feel like i'm gonna be like hi hi hi you think yeah for some reason in my mind everyone went to lifetime and then the Equinox is like free.

43:57I don't know. I want a gym right out of to talk to anyone. But it will make sense. I think both of them also have household packages. That it's like way cheaper if you guys both go. Sorry, Harrison. I signed up for a new gym. He did. He's in training. A CrossFit gym. Oh. Harrison went and ran sprints yesterday. I mean, he's on a health kick. My knees are just so sore. I didn't know sprints would make your knees sore. When's the last thing you sprinted around a track? We do 100 meter dashes. I have high school truly high school I couldn't believe I it may have been high school for me are you fast yeah I mean I felt okay about how things went okay good so you weren't you weren't sad you were excited about no but it is pretty reflective like my knees all through the night I was like aching in bed and now even today I just feel like I did something to him that's But you know what that is right there?

44:52Age. Age, man. But I got to give you a lot of kudos because there's a lot going on in our life right now. Like we were walking out of our front door today and I looked back at our house and I was like, oh my gosh, we just have strollers. It just looks like we just had a baby, okay? But as much chaos is happening, you have really stuck to making sure that you're sleeping good, eating good, and staying fit. I think you're very mentally sound right now, so I'm really proud of you. Doing my best. Physically and mentally. Like you're taking care of yourself, but you're also taking care of the fam. So I'm proud of you.

45:24The alcohol management has just been, I think, the biggest driver of it. Okay. Let's talk about that. I don't think there's much to talk about other than like finding a healthy relationship with alcohol is like, I love it. I love being social, but, you know, drinking once a week, maybe twice a week, I feel like allows everything else to stay on path versus when I'm drinking more than that. That's where, like, I start missing workouts and I start seeing just like the negative. Yeah, I start seeing myself missing things. So I'm very happy with where I'm at from a drinking perspective. Yeah, you're doing a really good job taking care of yourself.

46:10Drinking three to four nights a week, I think, comes with a tremendous amount of trade-offs for me. First one, I'm drinking one to two times a week. I'm still getting my social cup full, but I'm not seeing the downs. And drinking smart. I've learned I cannot have frozen margaritas anymore. Because frozen margaritas, they sink me the next day. I am gone. and so just like keeping it to beer april spritzes and ranch waters or i do ranch waters with vodka and then i'm great the next day one thing i've just noticed about bubs too at this age is like she it's like every morning she gets a new battery put in her and it is go go go go full speed ahead like she those little legs do not stop and if like she can't sit still she's like there there and i think every toddler's like this and then there's nap time and you get a break and then boom wakes up gets new battery in and we're go go go go go until bedtime and it's the cutest thing on the planet but there is no place in that for a hangover there really isn't like you got to be up 7 a.m sharp dialed and and ready to be present and engaged with her yeah and playing yeah yeah so okay so rocky he is one month old he he's starting to be way more awake like our wake windows are getting longer which is really cute and he does what tate does and i don't know why this is but they they both loved like he will see my necklace and they grab it and they don't want to let go of it and i have a photo of tate doing it when she was one month old and him too and it's like precious um and the other thing is he's a big eater and he doesn't eat he doesn't have his whole bottle at one time he likes to graze he's a grazer so we spend a lot of time eating and it's i just think he's really cute your bond with him is incredibly special i just i love that little boys so much and so all right so what's the final synopsis one month then feels like it was a week agreed um who i have to give the most kudos to you is you is tate is you okay it's me and then tate and then well then you and then everyone gets a gold star which i'm really happy about um and it's just been fun my favorite moments are the mornings at the coffee shop with the four of us i love doing things the four of us um oh no i you know what i'm gonna say my favorite moment of the month is that's you i think i loved when we all went to the pool together and then we went and got burgers because i think it's cute when she's in the pool but like he's there i don't know i think it's really sweet yeah i love i love i love the the family moments with the four of us you you've done a phenomenal job like your bond with him is so special as as i said before and you really understand him you really really understand him i do want to say this too though because postpartum wise i don't want it to look like i just like have all this energy the one thing i was journaling about this morning is like i definitely feel my body's still tired um i can tell like the breastfeeding is taking a lot out of me and yeah i find i'm sometimes i'll nap during the day still which is like unheard of for me so i'm still really tired i can tell my body's tired and this breastfeeding thing i think because i'm making so much more milk i don't know it's just yeah but where i gotta i gotta um defend you on that nap is like you're up every night in the middle of the night oh i wanted to talk to you about this so i was so of course you're napping but i was thinking about trying to not do that pump love it but i don't think i can because i'm so full by the time that one comes around a lot of times it wakes me up beforehand i don't sleep well for the the hour leading up to it because I start to hurt.

49:59Well, you know your body. You've got such a good feel of what's best for you. I guess I could try it and just see. Whatever you think. Yeah, I don't know. Anyways, I just think if I did stop waking up in the middle of the night, it would help. Yeah, I'm sure it would. Well, that was if we look at Tate, I feel like so So it was like four months in until you start. You didn't sleep through the night until four months in. You were still pumping. And I remember when you stopped that pump, that was a huge, that midnight pump, that was a huge trend for you mentally. And so like the fact that you're still doing that is pretty remarkable.

50:42Maybe I'll try. I don't think my boobs can do it, but we'll see. Okay. Okay. So you're talking about, or you touched on walks around the block. Okay. When did I touch on that? When you talked about working, you want to go to the gym and now. Oh, yeah. Okay. And one thing I've loved that we've been doing is I've loved these walks. Now, these walks though have led to what I would describe as a silent bicker, a bicker that didn't happen, but something that you do that blows my mind. Oh, what is it? When we go for walks around the block, and not around the block, when we go for walks in the neighborhood, Alex is a, she'll be walking, and then just at some point in the walk, she will just turn back, and she won't loop.

51:36So like, is what I just said clear? Yes. Alex is an out and backer. She's an out and backer. And so we back trace our steps. I'm like, no, no, no. But if we just take a right, we can do a whole new area and close it off in a circle. Do you know why I do it the way I do it? I'd love to know. Okay. It's a wild way to walk. We live in a very hilly area. Yeah. So I've learned now where I loop around if I'm coming up on another hill and then I don't like that. So right now I'm trying to avoid hills with the stroller because they just kick my butt. So I'll just go out and back sometimes if I've found a flat surface.

52:18Okay. That makes a lot of sense because you typically turn back on the – like when we get to the park. Why don't we cut across the park? And now I get it because when we cut across the park, we need to go up the hill. And yes. So I hate that hill on the other side of the park. Also, the last – remember the last three weeks I was pregnant, what I would do is I would go on like two-hour walks around the neighborhood. So I just learned all the paths and all the streets and which ones have sidewalks, which ones don't, which one have hills. and I just, I don't want to mess with the hills right now.

52:45And so will you be an out and backer in like six months? No, I hope to get to a point where I take those hills in stride. Okay, so I take that comment back. I didn't realize that was a product of recovery. I thought that was the way you like to walk and I just never noticed it before. No, I mean, it's equivalent to my raw dog stopping of a TV show in the middle. Like it is a bit just abrupt, but yeah, I don't know. I'm walking to walk. Like, I don't care where I'm walking. Does that make sense? No, it totally does. If you're someone thinking about incorporating GLP-1s into your life the right way, well, listen up.

54:35They say a lot of times if you say bless you or if you look at the sun, it gets rid of the sneeze. Okay. Well. What else do we have on the docket? We have our tweet of the week, our updated tweet of the week. Read it to us. And that updated tweet of the week is that nine out of ten woman physicians are eldest daughters. I thought that was a fascinating statistic. So what does that tell you? What's your takeaway? way? I think that it speaks to the added responsibilities that naturally get transferred to the eldest. And I think what's been so surprising about the first month is how much of that added responsibility the toddler or the eldest takes up on their own.

55:20And what really made this data point jump out to me was yesterday when Rocky started crying and like no like no BS within 15 seconds I see Tate beside me with a bottle for him no it was the cutest thing ever and and like I I hate telling stories about your toddler and it's like parents are always embellishing it's like no like she was like i i can't believe her natural instincts on helping and that whether that's consistently putting blankets on him like when he cries she goes into problem solving mode and and so when i see a statistic like this it just like it it all it all comes together and so you and so you think that a lot of them like to be caretakers and physicians well yeah i think that that's that's how it all ties they're naturally drawn to that kind of role what i find interesting about eldest daughters and i'm not one um i'm an only daughter i'm a youngest kid only daughter but there was a couple of our friends that are old their eldest daughters and taylor swift wrote the song too which i think is just like very empowering for all of them but whenever i talk to them they'll always be like it's so cool that tate's going to be the eldest daughter because I always felt XYZ about that.

56:44Like they really do take on a role. They think about being the eldest daughter more than I ever think about being the only daughter or the youngest child. Like it's not part of any, it's not any part of me, but for the eldest daughter, I do see that a lot of them talk about it. And I love that. Does that make sense? Yeah, it does. and it's something that had never come up on my radar up until this conversation. I think it's the sweetest thing ever. Yeah. But does eldest daughter apply if there's two kids? Yes, if the daughter's the eldest. Okay. But it applies only when the daughter is first born.

57:26That's the difference. It's not if there's a son and then a daughter and then seven sons. Yeah. That's not the eldest daughter. Okay. She's the oldest daughter, I suppose. So I - Firstborn daughter. Firstborn daughter. Speaking of elders, I went from eldest daughter to elderly's podcaster. Oh. I think I've seen my favorite video of the year. Okay. What was it? That is a young lady teaching her grandparents who are 102 and 106 years old. No, 102. I've seen this. And I think the grandma's 89. Okay, 89 and 102. Wow, a little 13-year age gap there. Cute little age gap. Relax, George. Wow. Relax, George.

58:10And Martha. How to use DoorDash. I saw this as well. Okay, I didn't know this was the video. Unbelievable video. Unbelievable video. And the best part is when the grandma was like, so it's just like I'm typing in a browser, like I'm going to look at the news. Like it's such a foreign idea to her. She's like, how do I even find the DoorDash website on here? Well, you touched on something that I think is very interesting that I want to double tap into. But before I do that, the other best part of the video was the desktop background, which is like the smack big photo of the grandpa's face, like full face taking up the whole desktop.

58:53But it's the most precious thing. It's wholesome. But what jumped out to me, and it's the news thing and the ordering thing, is how the underlying need didn't change, but the interface in which the grandparents addressed the need did. So the grandparents always read the news. They just used to read it through a newspaper. Now they're reading it through the internet. The grandparents used to order food. they just pick up the phone and order it but no so it's not a novel new idea to them they would call and they'd order pizza all the time think about it oh delivered yeah and and and so i it speaks to like the power of how changing interface can um can can seem so disruptive and it ties us to the question in 70 years what do you think our grandkids will be teaching us okay so that's a it's a really good question and here's where i struggle with it that i was just thinking about okay yeah because yes yes we used to call and order pizza and it would arrive to your door i don't i would have never thought about like let's say i say flying cars okay they're gonna teach us how to drive a flying car and that was the big prediction back then for our generation was flying cars which did not materialize right but here's what i'm here's my point i wouldn't have thought okay let's get people to sign up that are driving their cars to go pick up food and drop it off at your door i would have never thought about it other thing i would have never thought of airbnb let's have people just rent their houses like a hotel like i wouldn't have thought give us a seven-year prediction but i'm just saying whatever prediction i have to think a layer deeper than just flying cars autonomous vehicles because waymos are stuck in a cul-de-sac right now in atlanta georgia like we're very far away from that did you see this the way most they're just circling yeah i'm like bad day for waymos so so my prediction is well and if anybody has theirs please say it i don't have a prediction but like one thing that my mom says whenever i'm trying to teach my grandparents anything like my grandparents are afraid to touch buttons like they're afraid of the computer i mean they're very technically savvy for being 90 but like I'm not afraid to just get in there and click something and it could be the wrong thing.

1:01:15And I wonder if we are developing the muscles that are going to keep us for longer. I don't know. I don't think so. And I think that - I hope. I think it's going to be consistent adaptions to the interfaces. And I think the interfaces are going to change so much that they're going to confuse us. And so the point being is like, I don't think it's going to be buttons. I think it's going to be like neural things. And so it's like, all right, how do you order food from a chip that's inserted into your brain? So we'll still be ordering food, but we'll be doing it through a neural interface. And so you have that chip and how do you control that chip and then place the order?

1:02:01Or secondarily, you're seeing like the massive developments in robotics and robotics serving human needs. And so how do you interface with the robots? I think that probably comes in the next 10 years, 5 to 10 years. And so I think we'll handle that. The neuro stuff is – or the neural stuff feels very much like in that 70-year window. But we're thinking about it now. so we're good. I know. I do think like, do you think that those grandparents were sitting there at our age being like, where are we going to land? What are we going to get to? Will I be able to order my food on my phone? They weren't thinking about that.

1:02:45That's what we didn't see coming is we didn't see the phone coming and so there may be, very likely there'll be something we didn't see coming. There's something, that's what I'm saying. There's something we can't even sit in this room and think of because the phone didn't even exist. Yeah, totally. Well, the phone did exist but it wasn't wireless and it didn't have internet and it didn't have XYZ So it's like getting the internet on your phone or your credit card on your phone. Incredible. What's something you would love to have on your phone, but you can't even comprehend the ability of having it on your phone?

1:03:12Well, I think it's not having a phone and it all being up here. It goes in your brain. I don't want people putting stuff in my brain. I don't want a chip in my brain. And I think this is what we're unlocking is I think that Bubber's kids will be like, of course throw that chip my brain why not the same way our grandparents are very much like I don't want all my information in right in a phone like what do you mean I got to put my banking information into my phone they think it should be hacked that's crazy I just had my second baby little rocky and here's the thing I knew firsthand and I'm feeling it again this time that your feeding journey can be stressful no matter what you choose to do and I've said it before I'm giving myself flexibility this time around because I breastfed and I combo fed with Tate for a year.

1:04:04And this time around, I'm starting out with breast milk, but I've already given Rocky a little formula. And moving on from this, I wanna give myself grace and flexibility when it comes to my feeding journey. I don't wanna be so tied to the pump and to breastfeeding because I'm coming back to work. I'm coming back to recording more. And so having Bobby on hand really gives me the flexibility that I need and that so many mom needs when it comes to your feeding journey. And then there's one more thing that I want to talk about, which is the feeding room that Bobby offers you guys. Because Bobby supports you whether you're 100 % breastfeeding, you're combo feeding, or you're full formula feeding.

1:04:39And the feeding room gives you all the tips and tools that you need and support that you need as a mom going through your feeding journey, no matter what that looks like. So if you want to feed with confidence too, head to highbobbie.com. that's high bobby b-o-b-b-i-e dot com to find the formula trusted by parents and loved by their babies 800 ,000 and counting the concept of ordering doordash on a desktop computer though and it was touchscreen laugh out loud funny laugh out loud funny no it's adorable it was so cute but it was like yes i loved it i loved everything it was a really just heartwarming moment i have one okay let's go so i i'm gonna pretend in my mind it's it's the the granddaughter is teaching the grandparents how to do it's a version of a peptide stack so how to like make your shot and then you give and then how how to give yourself the shot and then like immediately your hair like was gray but it dies blonde love it or something that happens like pretty instantly maybe it solves a joint pain problem.

1:05:47And the robot gives it to you. Yeah, or maybe the robot, maybe she is teaching you how the robot gives it to you. Or you give it to yourself, I don't know. But what we saw was we saw this Heinz sauce machine at the Moody Center. And basically Harrison did like ranch and barbecue? And bacon. And bacon. Whoa, whoa, whoa. Jules' face, we need to double tap into this. We need to explain exactly what it is. It's like a Coke freestyle machine for condiments? Exactly. Yes. It's exactly what it is. And it was really cool. And it sat there and it shook it in front of you. And it was delicious. But I'm thinking that for a peptide stack.

1:06:20And then that's something like that happens that you teach to the grandparents. I barely know what a peptide stack is. So I don't think the audience does. But this Heinz machine, it had so many options. So it had your base ingredients. So it had like ketchup, mustard, barbecue sauce, ranch, mayonnaise. and so you'd click your base and then you could add any flavors you wanted to it. Wow. Yeah. It was awesome. And so like garlic, bacon. Honey. Honey. Spice. It was phenomenal. That's crazy. Yeah. Yeah. I can't believe I'd never seen it before. I couldn't either. It was really cool. I have a good Father's Day present for you on the topic of this.

1:07:03Okay. Maybe I get you an at-home. I actually do have your Father's Day present, by the way. I know that you don't want one, but you will use it. it can please no please i really don't need one please spend it on you i really request that okay i request that but one last video i do want to talk about okay should we run the video jules yes sure okay so let's run the video what's one thing that you've delegated that most people would consider ridiculous we have uh four kids and you know as you know babies and kids don't always sleep through the night we listen to the baby monitor so you could hear them cry and you could go in.

1:07:38And Catherine's like, why are we listening? Why don't we delegate that to assist in the Philippines? And so we now have two nurses who live in the Philippines and it's daytime for them and they're working, studying, but they have our baby monitors on. And if the kids need help, they can play a song. If the kids are crying and really need us, they'll call us and we'll go in. But 90 % of the time they can be calmed without us going in. I mean, we've been doing it for years now and it's freaking the last thing i would turn off because it protects our sleep have you seen it no do you know what i'm talking about no okay so it's a guy he's on a podcast and he is asked what is the one jules help me with the exact question he's asked it's something along the lines of what's one thing you do as a parent that what's one thing you've delegated as a parent that most people would find ridiculous Okay.

1:08:33One thing you've delegated as a parent that most people find ridiculous. And what this guy does is he's hired a staff in the Philippines who watch their baby monitors when they sleep and then wakes them up. and so if the kids wake up i guess he like the the folks in the philippines will like help put them back to bed like by like playing music or whatever and then if there's if they need to be addressed in person they'll call them and wake them up so they've outsourced their night nurse but it's not outsourcing a night nurse because this is very much from a later age because this to me sounds ridiculous, especially with the functionality that the monitors like NANID have.

1:09:27Because a night nurse solves the problem of if the baby is so young that they wake up, they do need to be fed, so then the night nurse feeds them. Like this to me feels like one of the most unnecessary allocation of resources that could ever exist. I agree. I'm struggling to figure out what problem we're solving. I want to be very clear on the night nurse, on what the night nurse does. Your baby in those first four plus weeks cannot sleep through the night. They're waking up every one, two, three, four hours and they need to be fed. They need a bottle. And so the night nurse is feeding them, needs to be done in person.

1:10:02What this guy was referring to was like when your kid randomly wakes up at three or four in the morning, they're like playing them a song to put them back to bed. which obviously we don't have kids that age so i don't know how like how often that is happening from a parent's perspective but this just feels like this guy's getting duped yeah because then like if bubber let's say bubber wakes up right now in the middle of the night and she wants us and she's we hear it on the we hear it on the nana and we wake up and we wake up and we can very quickly assess like if this is something that needs us to go into the room or if she if she'll go back to that and then like to have them call me like i'm already up i don't need you to call me maybe they i mean i'm not defending this guy i'm not pro outsourcing this but maybe mentally something's different like maybe the kids are on a different floor so they're not stirring from something but i'm just saying the nanit acts like the nanit does this service like you get the notification from the nana you hear it on the nana i just wonder how much he's paying yeah i don't know it's not a lot is it a dollar an hour a dollar point three five to a dollar fifty per hour oh wow so okay okay but but for what peace of mind i don't know it's peace of mind it just it feels unnecessary it feels just outright unnecessary but i don't want to knock it he might have a different reason maybe he did a bad job explaining it i don't know or maybe our view on this will change our kids get older but i don't know i didn't really get it i didn't know it was possible i didn't know they were they had a service for this jules what are you thinking no i don't know i'm not thinking anything it is weird i guess in the comments if you have any clarity please he called it a night nurse though that's And thank you for clarifying, I guess, the difference.

1:12:04That's what's confusing is he called it a night nurse. He said, we have two night nurses in the Philippines. How old are his kids? I don't know. Unclear. All right. Well. I would think this would save you 5 % of effort. So therefore, I wouldn't think it would. Yeah, that's what I'm getting at is it feels like between. Zero to five. The services that between the tech that already exists today and just using your own capabilities of listening to your children. Unnecessary. I agree. In 70 years. Should we start this as a new segment, unnecessary or necessary? No, we shouldn't tie ourselves to new segments.

1:12:49If it naturally comes up next week, I think that would be good. Okay, great. Right. Speaking of which, though, really quick before we end, I did ask in here, is there any baby products that have have like risen above the rest in the past month or like different than you expected or different than your experience with Tate? Because I think the people would like to hear. Well, I love the wipe warmer with Tate and I was very obsessed with it. we don't use the wipe warmer with rocky it's a non-event um so that that's first kid versus second kid though because like he doesn't love having his diaper changed because the wipes are cold but we just power through it with bubber it was so like how can we make the diaper change more comfortable for her and that was the wipe warmer so i would like to undo my flag plant on the wipe warmer.

1:13:41I would describe the first month as, you know, that's your period where you use the least amount of things. Like you've got the duna for when you're out of the house. You got the snoo, which is your lifeline of sleeping. And bottles. And bottles. Slush diapers. Plus diapers. And a pump. that's kind of it but now no toys but you were carrier heavy with bubs the first month and we haven't put him in the carrier yet because we've just been putting him in the stroller but i think part of that is i was told that i was putting her in the carrier wrong and so i felt like he wasn't ready for the carrier and i think now i'm going to start using the carrier yeah i'd like him to get a little bit bigger yeah like one more pound bigger for the carrier and then i think we'll use the carrier a lot but right now we're doing it and we're snooing and that's like it did you see the video of the couple walk in with the or sorry i'm not explaining this well the guy had a carrier on him in one of the couples and another couple walked in the girl was wearing the carrier and the the other dad was like wait those things are unisex

1:14:59i did not see that that's so funny it was real i should have sent it to you guys it was funny Wait, that's so great. All right. Well, I need to get back to the house as we are going to start some digging. But thank you all very much for listening. Thanks for listening, guys. We love you. This week on Two Parents & A Podcast, we're talking about the lost art of the "doorbell friend" (we just learned we have these and it makes us feel like we're in a sitcom LOL). Which spirals into a whole convo about how in-person social interaction has plummeted and what can be done to bring back the 90s childhood mindset.

Then we get into Memorial Day block party planning (watermelon seed spitting contest, three-legged race, & getting Kennedy Urich's boyfriend Bobby to do a concert?!), and the fact that we have OFFICIALLY broken ground on the pool (after a whole pipe-moving saga that was NOT in the budget lol). In other neighborhood news, Alex is officially starting a book club!!! We get into the best books Alex has read lately (Mean Moms, Strangers, and the book book club is starting with: Yesteryear). Plus, fan-casting the Stranger TV adaptation (Nicole Kidman + Ryan Phillippe?!).

Then we get into Jessica Simpson & Nick Lachey ending up on the SAME flight to Hawaii (what are the chances?!), date night midweek vs. Saturday night (spoiler alert: Thursday wins), and the great event eating debate (should you eat before attending an event with dinner?!)

Then it's Rocky's 1 month update (he's a GRAZER, his wake windows are lengthening, and Alex got cleared to work out!), and BICKER OF THE WEEK on whether you should be an out-and-backer or a looper on your neighborhood walks (Alex has her reasons!!!).

Plus, TWEET OF THE WEEK on the fact that 9 out of 10 women physicians are eldest daughters (Dr. Tate?!), and TWO THINGS WE DMED EACH OTHER: that viral video of the granddaughter teaching her 102 + 89 year old grandparents how to use DoorDash (heartwarming!!!) and the guy outsourcing his night nurse to the Philippines (seems completely unnecessary??).

And finally, our favorite baby products from the first month (RIP the wipe warmer for Rocky, the SNOO and Doona stay undefeated)!

LOVE YOU GUYS!
