In short
The hosts share a chaotic “first flight with two under two” travel story (including a delayed/canceled connection, a car-seat mix-up, and learning to accept help from strangers), then pivot to postpartum sleep/screen-time tips, and finish with a recap of a monthly book club and ideas for “brag”/weekly friend check-ins.
Guest backgrounds
No podcast guests are interviewed. The episode features the hosts (Alex, Jules, Harrison) and stories about other passengers and their book club group.
Key claims
Prioritize booking three seats in a row for toddlers; traveling with a 20-month-old can feel like “one parent flying solo” because the other parent is tied up with the younger baby. Accept help from other moms/dads on flights to build a “village.” Blue-light glasses can help protect melatonin/circadian rhythm during night feeds. Toddler screen time is likely limited (10–15 minutes) unless using more engaging, lower-stimulation games.
Notable examples
A woman beside Alex offers to hold Rocky and shares she travels internationally with her daughter; another passenger reassures them about seat/space dynamics. Book club met at a Mexican restaurant (Este), used an audio-book hybrid, and discussed Yesteryear (influencer-farm-adjacent, “inside her head” ending rewrite prompts).

Perfect. You know, like maybe I could mix it up a bit. It doesn't have to be the same thing every time. So, welcome to Two Parents in a Podcast. Yay. Who do I sound like when my voice gets raspy?
1:10I didn't catch it. Miley Cyrus. I think so too, Jules. And it's the craziest thing. It's always happened to me. Like I would be on the phone. I remember people would call my landline at my parents' house. And if I had a little bit of a raspy voice from like a volleyball tournament or something, they would be like, I'm getting Hannah Montana. gonna correct so i don't know what's going on with that i'm gonna make a request what i need to see you play volleyball well i don't have it like i used to but i like i need to see this we the the it's one of the number one things that you talked about that i've never seen you actually do maybe i can get some film i would love we should have looked and seen if we had film when we're back in Oklahoma City.
1:57Oh my gosh. Yes, you guys. Because, okay, so we have so much to talk about. But I have a new saying I would like to, I'm going to put in my wheelhouse. Okay. So I was on a Zoom call today for this Jeremiah program, which is a nonprofit I work for and we're planning a luncheon, right? And there was this area that came up around like social media planning. And Lexi on the call, she was like, that's going to be Alex's fastball. And I was like, ooh. Like I always say, don't lose your fastball or something like that. Yeah. But I've never said that's going to be their fastball. Good saying. Great saying.
2:28So you're going to hear me throwing that one around a lot. So we did. We went to Oklahoma City for my grandpa's funeral. But he was 93, you guys. Like, he lived such a good life. And it was a very sweet celebration. And he was sick towards the end. And so I'm happy that he's out of pain. But it is a reminder. Like, do you know what he was? Such a cut up. like he was just always a jokester even till the end like sometimes he couldn't find his teeth and he would just laugh like i'm going anyways and we'd be like okay like he was the cutest thing ever so um yeah we went back to oklahoma city to celebrate his life that's how i want to call it oh there's tears in my eyes um well may he rest in peace and so i said very very very i spoke at his funeral and i spoke at both my grandparents funeral and i said at the end may he rest in peace and may there be good food in heaven because that man he loved loved his dips loved to dip in the he loved food he loves so he's just adorable um so anyways that's why we went back to oklahoma city which aka turned into rocky's first flight now the flight came sooner than we expected right because we're going to colorado next week and we thought that was going to be rocky's first flight but obviously we had to go back.
3:45And so Rocky's first flight, we had to, number one, we booked it like a week in advance. And so we didn't have like the best seat options and the flights were sold out. So we were aisle aisle, which I liked. And we booked two seats for the four of us. Which I made a TikTok about this and a lot of people were commenting like at Tate's age, I started getting a third seat, which I agree with. We just, we didn't have the time to get it. We didn't have three seats in a row. Mm-hmm. So we went for the aisle-isle. We went for the aisle-isle. Yeah. Two seats. And, you know, I ask, we, okay, so on the way back, we got delayed, which we've talked about this, like, on social media, and we talked about it on the pod with the two girls.
4:32Like, on the way back, our flight was delayed. And it came down to, do we drive? Because we were in slingshot distance. This is a great story. We were in slingshot distance. of Austin, we're in Dallas, so we're a three-hour drive away, or we're a 30-minute flight away, but our flight was so delayed, and then one was canceled. And so basically, if we drove, we would get home an hour earlier. No, no. So I think we got to give the updates, okay? Because initially, that was the math. Initially, the math was like, if we drive, then we'll probably get home 30 minutes earlier. But by the time we actually secured the driver, because we had to secure a driver, we had to have that driver have a car seat, and then have them get to the airport, we would have arrived like 30 to 45 minutes after we would have gotten home had we flown and had the flight stayed on time.
5:20Okay? Okay. So we get that updated information. So we're saying it's going to be an extra 30 minutes to drive home. We still make the decision to drive home. And I love the decision. But the main factor for this was there are times where we lean. on the community. And I made the video and then Harrison and I talked about it for 15 minutes. And I couldn't make, I kept going to you being like, I have no idea what to do. I have no idea what to do. And my gut was saying, let's drive because I thought Tate could fall asleep in the car seat. Like I don't think she could fall asleep on the plane because she's too big now.
5:56But I thought we maybe would have a shot for her falling asleep in the car seat. Which she's been doing. So we checked the comments and everyone was like, drive, drive, drive, drive, drive. There's nothing worse than an overtired toddler on an airplane. And we haven't traveled with Tate as a toddler past bedtime yet. Cause all of our flights have been in the middle of the day, which this one was like, we were going to be home in the door at 8 PM. Boom. Tate goes to bed. Like we had it, but you know, things happen. Yeah. So then the question, so then we were like, okay, we're going to drive. We commit to driving.
6:26Yeah. Harrison gets a photo of the car seat, which is, this is the part that makes me mad. Like not mad, but like you did the right thing by asking for the photo of the car seat. And they sent the Gracco car seat, which is the one we have. There are three different types. There are a lot of different types. And so we're just like, yeah, we have this car seat. Perfect. Obviously, it faces the back. Very, very defeating moment when we walked outside and realized that that car seat faces forward. Yeah. And we had the car seat specialist on the podcast. And he explicitly clarified that a child cannot go in a forward-facing car seat until they're four years old.
7:04And I was like, you know what? He told us. And I actually looked. at the car seat that that the driver had and it's it said four and over so now we're outside we apologize to the guy Harrison gave him 50 bucks we paid him 50 dollars for him coming to the airport and picking up the car seat and we had to now make our flight timing got close the other kind of random tippetat um part of my delay to driving is i just driven back from dallas like like maybe six weeks beforehand when my flight was delayed, and the drive was painful. And so I'm like sitting there, I'm looking at the Chili's. I'm like, we can go in, we can eat at Chili's.
7:42I've never eaten at Chili's. And kill some time. What? That was, do you not notice there's a Chili's across from us in the airport? Of course I noticed it, but you've never been? No, never been to Chili's. Never been to Chili's. I really wanted to go, but you know who didn't want to go? Bubber. Bubber did not want to go. You've never been to a Chili's? No. We don't have Chili's in Canada, I'm quite sure. Oh my gosh. Or we didn't when I was growing up. We have to go to a Chili's. We're going to take a field trip to Chili's. I'm in a Texas roadhouse. You've never had a Bloomin' Onion, or you've never had their cinnamon butter?
8:16No. Their cinnamon flavored butter. True, it's not actually butter. Have you been to Waffle House? Been to Waffle House, big fan. Been to Crack and Barrel? Cracker Barrel. Cracker Barrel. I'm a little insulted that you're going to put Cracker Barrel in the same category as a Chili's in a Texas Roadhouse. Cracker Barrel. Okay. Cracker Barrel? That's a C. To me, that's a C establishment compared to the A establishment. I liked Cracker Barrel. I went to Cracker Barrel in Wisconsin. Huge fan. You're going to love Chili's. I sat by the fireplace, had some eggs. You're offended that Cracker Barrel and Chili's are being compared?
8:52Yeah. I think Cracker Barrel's better than Chili's. Yeah. No, it's probably the food's perhaps better. but in terms of like a staple didn't Cracker Barrel like recently like botch their rebrand and then they brought it back though yes yeah proud of them for bringing it back I just think Chili's is so good the triple dippers like there's nothing better and their queso you would love their queso this is our story we're like we started here going up we're coming back though we're coming back let's come back okay so let's get the plane back on the route okay so here's what we're gonna get off the divert So here's what I'm going to say back to your point because I remember where we were.
9:33It's all fun and games for you and I to go to the Chili's. If your flight's delayed and it's just the two of you flying, like it is, it's almost fun. I would have welcomed it. Like I literally would have welcomed it. I would have been like, let's watch the World Cup. Let's not worry about it. I love when a flight's delayed and I've got time. When you have a toddler, Rocky, he would have been fine. He was asleep. Woke up for bottles. No problem. but but when you have a toddler and your flight gets delayed and you're you're approaching bedtime yeah it is truly humbling yeah it was the right decision to try and drive far and away it was the right decision to try and drive unfortunate sequence of events that we couldn't because of the car seat and so we turned around we sprinted back in we're like making good time we get to the air tram because we we're at terminal c we needed to get to terminal b and we realized we forgot a bag.
10:26We forgot a bag outside like where the car was picking us up. So I had to leave security. Security remembered, like they remembered us walking through. So they saw me come back and they're like, what'd you forget? They went outside and looked, couldn't find it. And they were just like, all right, no worries. They like helped me. They like helped rush the whole situation. They were so nice. And so like the whole thing was probably six or eight minutes in and out. And we got to the plane just in time. People are the MVP of this trip for us. Like as much as it sucked, everyone we sat by on the flights was lovely.
11:07So then, okay, so here's the best part. I think we get on the airplane and I, so we got our flights got, our seats got moved. So I'm going to rebooked on a different flight because the delay caused us to miss our first flight. So I'm a middle seat and Harrison is not beside me, but he's a couple rows ahead of me aisle. And Harrison's like, I'm going to take Tate. Alex, you take Rocky. So I take Rocky and I go in the middle seat and this woman sits down beside me and she's like, Hey, at some point during this flight, shit's going to hit the fan and just know I love a baby. That's my daughter right there beside me.
11:44And her daughter's like 21, 22, you know, she's like I can help you I can make the bottle I can do whatever you need and I was like thank you but like you know I'm sure we'll be fine and then like 50 seconds later Rocky's hungry and I and I thought she could and I started trying to make the bottle and I was trying to hold him and trying to make the bottle and I couldn't do it and so I just looked at her and I was like can you hold him she was like I would love to so she's sitting there holding him just rocking him and I make the bottle and then I take him back and I feed him again and then Tate needed something out of my bag and I looked at her again and I was like, I'm so sorry.
12:18Can you hold him again? And she was like, please don't apologize. I would love to. And I've been in your shoes. And she told me, she said, I used to travel all the time for work and I would go on these long 10, 20 hour flights because she worked something international and she would take her daughter with her and whatever country she flew to. And I think there's a lot of countries like this. She said the way that they parent, especially the moms is way more communal than it is here in America. And she was like, I always am offering to help other moms. And I wish more moms would take me up on it.
12:48And I was like, it's funny because with the second child, that's something I'm trying to get a lot more comfortable with because as opposed to me making this moment a lot harder on me, like you're down to help me. I, I would love you to help me. You can hold the baby. I can make the bottle. I can take the baby back. And then I felt better. Like I was like, she's here to support me. I think it's a really sweet thing where you've got moms that love to help that there was dads helping with bags yeah there was there was a lot of great support but i think but a big through line for me with rocky has been like accept help from others and this was a really good example of that and then when tate because you know tate's a toddler and she was having a hard time figuring out why she was still awake do you know what she said to me she said you can try my lap with her and i was like i don't think she'll take i don't think she'll take anybody's lap right now but the fact that she offered i was just like you are awesome and i want to pay that forward like whenever we don't have bubber with us or rocky with us and we're on a flight i always want to be like i'm i'm a hand i can help you yeah jules what were you gonna say no i just saw a tiktok the other day that reminded me of what you were talking about but it said being inconvenienced is an unavoidable part of building and maintaining a village so like you have to be willing to be inconvenienced in order to help out other people and like be okay with the fact that you can inconvenience others in order to have a community yes i think that's a i think that's a really good point jules and it's made me a lot uh more compassionate empathetic i don't know the word but like it takes you sometimes being in the position to appreciate the whole dynamic of of what's going on yeah like i had a friend the other day who she was like i'm solo parenting and i text her and i was like at what point during the day can i come over and like i'll just sit with you.
14:31And like, that wouldn't be like that. And I knew it was, you know, solo parenting can be hard, especially when your kid's under one years old. And so I'm like, I'll come over and we can just like carve out part of the day and I can help you do stuff. Or I can hold the baby while you do stuff, or I can do the stuff while you hold the baby, you know? And it's like, I do think it's offering that. And then it does come back around is a really cool thing. Um, but yeah, I like the idea. I do. I don't know why we try to do it all. The other example was, and this was hard on me I went to the bathroom and Rocky and I were walking back on the first flight and Tate had fallen asleep in Harrison's arms and her feet were like sort of encroaching on the girl in the middle and the girl in the middle just like she seemed to have no problem at all and I was like hey Harrison have we like said something to her and he was like yeah and then he says to the lady he was like hey well she yeah she told me that um because I noticed it right away and I like looked at her and she's like it's totally fine like I have two kids and so she's like I've been in your situation before but I think the the learning out of all of this or do you want to keep going well I was just gonna say typically I would have been like how do we move Tate like let's move her away and give this girl her whole seat which she had her whole seat she was completely fine but she even said no that kid's asleep leave if that baby's asleep you leave that baby asleep and I was just like thank you for that but typically like I've had to become comfortable with like, it's slightly, we're slightly inconveniencing her.
15:57She doesn't care and like, we just gotta roll with it because I wouldn't care and I would understand what was happening with the toddler. Totally. All right, so I was writing something down and now I lost my train of thought. Something I've been hearing a lot about postpartum is how blue light can mess with your melatonin and circadian rhythm, which when you're already up multiple times a night with a newborn, it's the last thing you want or need. I've been wearing blue light filtering glasses from Zinni during the late night feeds and for screen time because sometimes I do just like want to check my phone and I genuinely feel like they've helped me protect my sleep and at this stage I'll take any small thing that helps you guys.

That's Z-E-N-N-I dot com slash podcast. Promo code podcast 15. So where, so, uh, oh, I know what I wanted to say. I wanted to talk about the learnings from the seat dynamics.
17:58Okay. And you can tell me if you agree with this. So I think no matter what, when traveling with four, even if they are two under two, you need, you need to prioritize booking three seats and booking three seats in a row. Yep. Had we done it over? two and one seat in a row is fine then that's what i would have thought my is we should have done but here so yeah we should have done two and one you and bubber can sit together and rocky can just sit on me but i think that it would be best to do window middle and the reason why is bubber loves interacting with people and she had a really hard time like understanding the dynamics and playing with people that don't know her.
18:41And so we were sitting in the flight on the way back, and the guy in the middle seat, she likes him. He was waving. He was waving back. Bunch of sequences of waves. And then Bubba goes and puts the hand out and does the high five. He hits it. Okay. Bubba goes back for the second. Bubba goes back for her sixth one. And she would have gone to 30. And I now feel bad for the guy, So I kind of have to shift her away and be like, hey, we can't keep doing that. And then she goes and she wants to start high fiving the guy on the other aisle. And so I just felt like she was all of the people around her.
19:24Was overwhelming her in terms of how she could interact with them. And so putting her in the window seat with less distraction, I think, would have been would have been the move. She's also I mean, it's a good 10 minutes of lifting the window up and down. Loves it. loves the window raising so i agree with that the other take i have is it's not as much traveling with two under two is so hard but it's as much as traveling with one who is 20 months you're basically on a flight by yourself with tate exactly because i can't help because i'm holding rocky and like rocky and they're basically on a flight by ourselves exactly but if tate and rocky were the if they were both two months old no problem it wouldn't thank you it would not have been a problem.
20:06In fact, it's the best thing ever because they fall asleep. I love taking a two month old on a flight. Oh my gosh. I was just like, I will snuggle with you. Yeah. I was like, if you compared like your situation versus my situation, they were night and day. Me in the middle seat was like, no problem. And our decision on the middle seat was that Rocky would go in the middle seat. Whoever had Rocky would go in the middle seat. Whoever had Tate would go in the aisle seat. Yeah. And here's the other thing. Um, we did screen time with Tater Tot. We got to talk about it. So she's 20 months old. In fact, is she 21 months old?
20:35I was talking about this with the neighbor the other day. September 17th. July, August. Is she 21 months? Oh, wow. Directionally? Directionally. Okay, directionally, give or take. I mean, the brain over here. And so we finally did our first screen time on the airplane. We took the iPad. We took her little headphones. You did Lion King? I wish I pulled up our screen time from the trip. It was not successful. No. I think 12 minutes. She was slightly interested. It did. You know, she got through 12, 15 minutes of it. And then she was like, I'm all done. Like, I would love to. I would really rather talk to everyone around me.
21:14But we tried it. I think that we had a big headphone issue. Maybe we did. I think we had a big headphone issue. A lot of people were asking me what headphones we do. Again, I did the heyday ones from Target. I think that we need to have headphones that connect to the iPad number one. Like with a string? with the string uh and number these have a cord do they yeah i just didn't bring it because i thought it was bluetooth all right so let's do that because the bluetooth is hard to tell whether it's on whether it's off or just connected to and then i don't know i kind of think we need to go over the ear not on the ear okay they're coming off a little too easy okay but my my point on screen time is i would say it went fine but she's not as into it like sometimes i see kids and they're occupied the entire flight with the screen i don't know what they have on it like maybe it's a little more stimulating but we're just not a lot of interest in but i think we're not using it to i think if the whole goal was let's have her locked in for you know an hour and a half yes we'd understand on the screen like you'd go through the coca melon or the miss rachel route but i think when we made the decision to not do that you understand you're probably only going to get 10 to 15 minutes of distraction until she's older until she's and then you'll need to start doing other things do you guys know anything about like games for toddlers on ipads like i think she would like to like press a button and then it does something i think jules is completely correct yes but unfortunately the studies i've seen on games are very similar to those of i would think so there's got to be a low stimulating toddler game we should look into this more Yes, I just haven't found it.
22:57There's got to be an app. And that's like a bit of a good call out is games can have the same negative effects as the highly stimulating shows. And so finding the right games, per Alex's suggestion, is key. And we haven't had time for that. So thank you for that. Yeah, I do. I do think we should do that. So do you have a question for the audience today, sir? And they have some feedback for you. less less iced coffee and less beverages less peeing i was so you know i read the program beforehand i was so excited to shut this down and be like you know what like by the time your body like you drink something you can't pee that fast and you can 100 you can so i was i was ready to dunk on that feedback and i think it came after you brought the entire jug of of um iced coffee onto the pod.
23:48Which was insane. Like that was just such a crazy move by you. As Alex has her giant jug of water. I may be a person who caffeine doesn't affect is what I've also come to learn. He can drink a Diet Coke late at night and go to sleep. I think that's crazy. Can you drink a espresso shot at dinner like after dinner and then go to bed? I haven't done it but I'm sure I could. I can typically do that sometimes. It depends. I Diet Coke late last night. Book club. That's what I was about to say. Book club. Yeah I'd love to hear about book club. Whose house did you go to? We didn't go to a house. We went to a restaurant.
24:19Interesting. Interesting. What's interesting about that? Interesting. How is that interesting? Do you think you should be at a house? Did you want to come? Why don't you tell us about it? Okay. So we went to a Mexican restaurant called Este. Okay. There was six of us. Okay. So I listened to my first audio book because I was like halfway through the book and then I was 75 % way through the book and I had two weeks left until book club. So I was like, I've obviously got this in the bag. I don't need to pay attention as much to like how I'm tracking on reading versus when we're going to review the book.
24:55I woke up yesterday and I was like, I haven't finished the book. I had a hundred pages left and I had a full day. So I was like, we're audio booking. So I audio booked at 1.4. I loved it. It took me an hour and a half and I got a manicure while I did it. I wrote some sub stack while I listened to it and finished the book. It was a great experience. I do think I will do some more audio books, like a bit of a hybrid. I like to read the book and like get the characters in my head. And then I think I'll switch to listening. So that was fabulous. We decided to do it at a restaurant. Okay. And one of the girls said, so she brought a prompt where she had rewritten the end of the book.
25:33She was like, this is how I wanted the end of the book. Very cool. Really cool. And then when she said that, she was like, so what I want everyone to do is always bring how the book ends for you. And I was like, so funny. I had an ending in mind and it didn't end up happening. And so I talked about that and we shut, we were the last people to leave the restaurant. We had so much fun. And so what time did book club start? Book club started at seven 30. Okay. And what time did we get home? We called the Uber at 1130. Okay. We had, I love this group. Like I love this group. And so that was my question is, is, is this a girl's night or is this, book club because from an outsider's perspective and i wanted i waited to bring this up to the podcast because i wanted to have this whole thing live it from an outsider's perspective it felt like your girl's right it didn't feel like book club oh no we were really hashing out the book so of the four hours gone what percentage of time is spent on book club on the book versus other matters well this book so this book in particular is very interesting because okay it's yesteryear yeah and have you heard of ballerina farm yeah i actually have so this book is loosely based on her and so you have you know i don't i'm just four influencers in this book club yeah and like so we're really and like we're really talking about like yeah inside her head is this about her who the author is it's actually about her it's loosely based on isn't it very negative so neighbor am drove me to my lunch meeting today and she was talking about how dark and twisted the character was it once finishing the book this book is not based on her at all it's like got a farm her husband is a trust fund like like that that all's true but like the way this ends like there's no way it's we're too far gone it's way too far stretched i think like the characterization might be based on her because i thought she had a yeah i i'm confused but it's It's not like a telling of her story.
27:39Okay. Correct. Correct. Okay. Yeah. Like this girl ends up with child neglect charges against her in 30 years in prison. Like Ballerina Farm, we're very far from what's happening with her. But like Ruby Frankie? Yeah. Could be like a combination of them. But you're inside her head and it's crazy. And so we were actually talking about the book. And then we would segue into like stories about other people. And then we would come back. But we have four hours. So of the four hours, how much of it is talked about the book? Two and a half. two and a half i would say you don't want to go to a book club where like someone's being militant making you talk about i think like what's the definition of it being a book club versus a girl's night if what percentage of time on book sounds right that's pretty strong i think yeah over 50 is pretty good we had i mean and we were so the girl's name is natalie heller mill heller mills and like all night we were just like talking about natalie like we we really talked about the book and had a lot of fun with it yeah that's great i just my my question was like is this girls in it or is it book club and i guess what i'm learning is they are kind of one in the same so here's the thing book club is going to come once a month yeah and it's going to be very fun that's what i've realized like actually read the book actually show up rewrite the ending i mean my one thing i wanted to ask about cast like who would play this person in the movie like Like we didn't even ask because we were talking about all these other things.
29:06We had so much fun. I love these girls. We were screaming. It was great. It makes me so happy that like when you in life can find these routines that you can look forward to that bring you so much joy. and the fact that now on this you know monthly basis you have this pocket of a handful of hours to just go and and chuckle and put a smile on your face and you can look forward to like um that's great and you know what the best part about book club is is like today we're going to get our new book so we all have to order it and like then we got to start reading again and i'm like i'm excited about that because you read it through the guise of i'm going to discuss this with somebody.
29:51And a once a month cadence feels really sustainable. Totally. Once a week, that's insane. Once every two months isn't enough. Right. Is that how normal book clubs are once a month? Yeah. Are you in a book club, Jules? No. Jules would be a very good candidate for a book club. I would need to be in a fan fiction book club and that's too dirty for even me. Is there... I feel like a big part of a success... I'm not going to go here. Save it. Not interesting. I want to talk about something else, though, from the book club. Please. One of the girls talked about this concept of a group text called, like, where you can brag.
30:35Okay. And I think the term brag has a negative connotation to it. But I do think a lot of times we don't celebrate our wins enough. Like, it's cool. Like, I was at a table of all these girls, all our moms, all are working. Like, they have full-time jobs. They're like badasses, right? And it would be really cool. Like one's launching a skincare brand and like she had recorded a podcast on it that day. Like what, like they're just, they're doing really, really, really cool stuff. And it would be cool in a group text to make everyone like celebrate their wins in it. Like you have to report like, okay, today I hit, you know, a big milestone or I hit one of my goals, you know?
31:16and like you have to put it in there and brag on yourself. I think that'd be really cool. Now Jules talked about. I was going to zig on that a little bit. But I want you to hear what Jules is, the weekly report. Were you going to say something, Harrison? I want to hear what you have to say. Okay. Well, mine is a tip for friends. This is different. Than bragging? Yeah. No, this is, listen. I love this. I love what you do. I actually know this. Love this. You guys do it to each other? Jules and I do it every Monday. Weekly updates on their week? This isn't bragging. This is keeping relationships fresh when you don't live in the same place as someone.
32:00But I think you should brag in them. I had a Q2 goal and I hit it. I agree. That can be a part of it. And when we launched the Substack last week, I included a screenshot of the Substack being launched. because yeah anyways on every monday my friends and i five of us we do a weekly report where you send 10 pictures and then you send either a write-up of how you're doing or i do a voice note because it's easier and it's just how we all stay connected and show each other parts of our lives that you wouldn't normally send to someone i think that is the coolest thing ever it also kind of sticks in your head when you do something like launch the sub stack you think oh i'll put this in my weekly report.
Read the full transcript
32:39Yeah, I take a screenshot and then like it also encourages you to take more pictures because I don't really take pictures like that. I'm at dinner and I snap a picture and then it goes goes later. Yeah, I think that's a really cool thing. Yeah, I want to I want to double tap into the second piece of it. I think the first piece one is I mean I love like I. Having friends that can celebrate your successes is I think a very important part of a friendship. So I'm in total alignment there. And having a forum to do so, I think is a great thing. Whether that's a group chat or something else. Now, I want to take a different path with this.
33:22Okay. Because staying connected with friends when you live in a different place is very, very, very, very hard. and i gotta give you a lot of credit for keeping i assume so there's five people i assume none of you live in the same place or maybe no yeah not anymore yeah and you know i've obviously i've lived in a lot of places between montreal new york hong kong la etc some of my best friends where i've had the most special moments with like i've just lost that check-in you know you know three months turns into six months and turns into a year and so i really like this um and i i'd love to find my own implementation of it because i feel like there's a consistent trend when whenever you leave a city and that you leave a city and or when the person's leaving they say i'm always going to come back okay we're guilty of When we left New York, what did we say?
34:26We're going to come back all the time. Right? We're going to come back all the time. We're going to say once a month we'll be here, right? Yes. And how often are we back in New York? Once a year. Once a year. Max. This year I don't think we're going to make it. Oh, we've got to make it. Okay, I'd love to. I do hope we do. And so I think that's really cool. You've encouraged me to, I'm going to re-hit my group chat. And it's obviously different for everyone. Like for us, that, like if I look at my Hong Kong chat, like doing it once a week, that wouldn't be feasible. But, you know, but I think that the main thing for us is like we're constantly this is my best friend.
35:01So like we're talking about on Instagram, we're talking on Snapchat, we're talking on text message, TikTok, whatever. But like so you don't get into like the bigger things that happen to you that week because you're just like constantly texting about the minutia or whatever. Like Summer House. Like Summer House. Yeah. So it's fun to like actually give life updates. even though we're talking constantly, like you miss out on like big things that, I don't know. We didn't talk about otherwise. Yeah. Like I went to dinner with a new friend. Yeah. Here's a photo of the food. Exactly. Yeah. I love that idea.

And then I have a couple of friends that are really good at it. they're just they'll just tell you like um we launched flock in target today that's what i did today and i'm like wow that is i'm so proud of you for saying that as opposed to like sometimes i'll just bake nothing didn't do anything today and it's like yeah you did you did you launched a sub stack or you launched a third episode that's really cool and we saw you know number good numbers from it and i'm excited about how it went and things like that and i can tell two of the girls at dinner last night they both have a sub stack michelle and olivia they've texted me about sub stack.
37:36And I'm like, why don't I talk to them more about it and talk about what we're seeing, you know? And, and so that's why I love, that's what I love about this Austin community of like the movers and shakers is like, they all want to talk about things. And so I'm really enjoying that kind of environment. You mentioned something though, that you've moved from a lot of cities and I got to talk about this. I am, I'm typically the one that's moved. I don't know if anybody that's listening has ever had a friend move that you absolutely love and adore and most importantly have kids the exact same age as your kids but I have one of these Shannon moving at the end of July and like I am wrecked about it like she to me she lights up the room when she walks in she's I just think she is the best to be around her kids are the exact same age as mine and like that's a big loss for me and I've never really realized when you get to be like family friends with somebody and like mom friends and kid friends and professional friends and then boom yeah it's not and exactly they move it's not one relationship going it's multiple relationships leaving at once yeah like she's like your whole yeah she's in my book club she's in my social group she's also at swim lessons with us like they're everywhere and it's like that's gonna to be a really big loss and I think it is so sad when somebody moves and I'm and I get why she's moving she's gonna be near family and it makes so much sense to me but like I'm devastated the the moving something else I was gonna say that I've now forgotten I had something that I was gonna say too that I've forgotten we were friends we were brag chat we were pardon moving moving substack we talked about off campus last night oh I know what I want to talk about what I feel like an idiot because I've done some rewatching of old seasons of summer house okay and I feel like so many of my views on people were shaped by this past season and there's been so much added context that I'd like wish I'd known.
39:48And what I can't believe is like the different like arcs that people go off of and how quickly they swing people from like hero to villain in the show. Give us an example. Most people on the show have had a high and a low. Like I, so this is really my first season. Like I thought Lindsay was like MVP of the season, right? Especially at the reunion. Lindsay is my MVP. I love her. Okay. I didn't realize that in past seasons, she'd gotten dogged on. Yeah, that sucks. And attacked. And there was the reunions where people were going at her. But she says that in the most recent reunion. And when Amanda gets up and leaves, she's like, I sat here and took it.
40:33You would sit here. But I didn't. That didn't register with me. I was like, what do you mean? And then I actually watched what she's referring to. And like, yeah. They were getting her? Jessie. yes jesse was was they went at jesse last year you couldn't just watch the same storyline over and over again so it like makes sense to me where that big thing comes to me is like all right so how much of this is like the producers really just understanding how to frame situations like the jesse situation how much of that was like them angling things versus versus the truth I don't know, but I do know it is good to watch.
41:15I mean, it makes the characters dynamic. Yeah, and the way we gave Bravo all that credit on the cut-in and them showing the live things after it aired, they cut to real time. They did that last season. Oh. So we think there's this groundbreaking thing happening. They had done it before. Muscle memory. It's good they did it last season, though. Here was the biggest thing that blew my mind. Okay. It blew my mind. Tell us. The... the Paige Craig breakup, that relationship was so far gone that whole season. Okay. She was so done. She was so clear with how done she was that how is it a surprise to anybody?
41:57Well, wasn't there a point where he said, I never thought I'd be in, you told me this, you loved this line. You say it. Craig said, I never thought I'd be in a submissive relationship, but she said, I'm not going to apologize for being a badass woman. It was the best line I've ever heard. Harrison was like, yeah. Yeah. Do you hear that? No, I was distracted. You'll love it. You'll love it. So they're up for dinner with Craig. Craig and Paige are up for dinner. And Craig says to her, he goes, I never thought I'd be in a submissive relationship. And she just looks at him dead ass in the eyes. And it's like, I'm not going to apologize for being a powerful person.
42:32She's the best. And Harrison came in the room and he's like, I love that. Paige said that. And I was like, heck yeah. I'm so upset that she wasn't on this last season. because this was my first like real taste or real understanding of of her i think she's like talking about her tours and i think she on summer house and on giggly squad some of her one-liners and how fast she can think i i laugh out loud i agree because she's like sneaky funny whereas hannah burner is like a comedian so you expect her to be funny so it's i love it when it comes from page it and it comes from page a lot and it is like it's in i'm like okay that was very she's like well educated clearly and she's funny and she's witty i didn't realize that like every guy in the house oh this is great context to the sierra situation okay after carl and lindsey broke up carl in a really really responsive like in a really nice mature way sat down with sierra i was like hey i'm starting to develop feelings for you so does everybody in the house like everyone at some point is like sierra well she's boss so and that's reflected in every single guy in the house at one point like expressing their interest in her and she looks at Carl and you know what she says she says Lindsay and I we've had a tumultuous past and out of respect for her I can't do this get out of here yeah this is like a couple seasons ago it's crazy that number one makes me love her how amazing And her and Lindsay didn't have a girl.
44:08Like, their relationship, I guess there was a bunch of past trauma. Or past fighting, sorry. And they were just restoring it. But Sierra says, like, in the reunion, she's like, Lindsay picked me up off the bathroom floor. Like, Lindsay really had her through this breakup, which is really, really sweet. Or this backstabbing situation that happened. But it is so interesting. So all the guys in the house have feelings for you. And, like, you're like, Wes, that's my guy?
44:33It was all after. probably but he obviously does have some he does have a way about him. This was after West. This was after West. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Because she came into Summer House via Luke. Okay. Her and Luke kind of had a thing. But then Luke was messing around and she distanced herself from him. And then she went single. And then she went West. Well I saw a clip of Jesse the other day I don't remember where it was and somebody was like you know would you like date Sierra and he was like yeah I'm like a breathing male of course I would but he he has been obsessed with her for years but he's just saying like every guy would date Sierra like have you seen her have you met her like she's amazing anybody would date her so I think that's really sweet that she was like no I'm not going to do this because you know out of respect for Lindsay fast forward to now I don't know what's like how we're even here with the Amanda West thing but I would like to say did Anybody see Kyle Cook kissing the guy?
45:33Yeah, Fibula. Who's that? Fibula? Connor Wood. I think he went to UT, actually. How did I not see this? Do you know who Fibula is? No. Oh. It was a joke. Oh. It was AI? No, no, no. It was a joke. Also. They were kissing? They kissed, but they weren't like... As a joke, because Kyle's kissing everyone. Okay, that's very funny. I think it's very funny. The other hilarious thing... I love Kyle right now. Wes was like the MVP of last season. Not the most current one, the one beforehand. Okay. So he had a huge comeback. And I would bet Wes and Fibula friends. I would put money on that. Who's Fibula?
46:14He's just like, do you know Brooke and Connor do a podcast? No. Okay. Well. Is he like a Jake Shane? Like he's a character? Yes. He's like a big internet personality. He came up like during COVID, but I love him. Love to follow him. I think he's either from here or he went to UT, lives in California. Love that. And he just, Fibula is like a name. Yeah, it's his handle. But he's friends with like that New York crew that all hangs out together that West and Amanda are like a part of. So I would venture to guess there's crossover. So interesting that he was kissing Kyle. Well, do, so West commented on not being on Summer House.
46:51Did we see this? No. Okay. look at me I'm the look at us stepping outside the programming this was not on any this summer let me see west comments on summer house yeah he said uh in bravo's defense I don't think it would have been a fun summer let me see what else he says he addressed um oh I don't have much info to say I mean I just thought it was a very like he kind of had a I read a quote on it, but that is part of the quote that I read. I just think he's getting away with it. You should have to face the music. Well, here's my... I love building off this. Carl and Lindsay break up. Okay? A year later, she's in the same house as him, pregnant.
47:44With a baby from another man. And they had to go through that. I'm very surprised Bravo did not put him back in that house. Well, I think Sierra made him pick. I think Sierra said me or him. Like if you have a, obviously Carl or Lindsay didn't go to Bravo and say pick. But what if, what if they did this? What if they told Sierra that if at any point she wants him out of the house, she could have him out of the house. And so like the way it would work is, you know, Wes wants to be on TV. so every week he'd come down to to to the house and if at any point sierra wants him gone she has him go nope she sends him home and she knows that that'd be really good tv yeah but like she she took it out of tv's hands and said like i'm just gonna hit him where it hurts because okay yeah and i respect that okay um okay well we're gonna we're gonna talk about something that i should have discussed earlier because it has to do with anne hathaway who's gonna play natalie Heller Mills in yesteryear because they're making a movie out of it.
48:45And she announced her pregnancy, her third pregnancy at 43. And that reminds me of the tweet where it says, ladies, you need to be baby maxing, especially later in life. Women who had children after the age of 40 were four times more likely to live to 100 years old. Pregnancies massively increase progesterone, the most healing female hormone you sent this and loved it what'd you like about it i like that we i like seeing uh good pr for having babies later in life yeah i was gonna say a date i was gonna say data a stat i love seeing a fact a stat that that that was positive about women having babies later in life yeah because you do hear a lot about how like it's harder to get pregnant later in life or you know things like that and it's like no it actually can be such a beautiful thing such a beautiful thing yes just let the record state i'm holding my pee right now i'm just letting everyone know i'm not leaving how's it going for you not great but we're good and what so have you ever asked yourself what's the worst that can happen like what are you gonna do pee here well i'm wearing these uh Elwood shorts and full like liquid visibility.
50:02Yeah, they are light brown. There's no wiggle room for mistakes. I would imagine like if I could feel your bladder right now, like if I knew what it felt like, I bet you're my version of 60 % full. I'm your version of 7 % full. I'm going to get an energy drink as well, but we're going to keep it running. Please keep talking. We're going. We're going the whole way through. We're going the whole way through. We're going the whole way through. You guys, Harrison is such a dork. Okay. Keep doing. All right. So I also like, so, okay. I'm going to get interested. At the funeral, my cousins were talking to me about this idea of hormone replacement because they were saying in your 40s, like one of my cousins was like, oh, in your 40s, like I just, all the hormones, or no, the lack of hormones.
50:55They leave. And so I don't know enough about it, but Harrison's on his phone. So we're just going to ask what you were doing on there. So I'm actually doing something pretty valuable. The doctor for Rocky's two-month visit asked if she could come early. What time would that be? She asked if she could come at a time that does not work. And why are you not coming to swim? It's Bubber's last swim and I'm giving out trophies. Like I ordered trophies. I want, and I know, I know not everybody gets a trophy. Okay. That was a big Jennifer Welch thing that I always loved. She's like, not everybody's getting a trophy, but I do believe in swim lessons under the age of two, everyone is going to get a trophy.
51:41Okay. We need to find the old video of Bubber getting her necklace from dance. She was so excited. She was so proud of herself. We just need to get her deep breath when she went up there. And she still wears her necklace. It was a very big moment for her, and I hope she does a deep breath when she gets her trophy. And I know that you're not going to miss Bubba getting her trophy at the ceremony today. I won't. For swim. I won't. Especially as— I won't. What a big moment. And here's what I was thinking, too. So I'm kind of on trophy duty. I'm going to make—I think I'm going to make awards. You know?
52:14Superlatives? Yes. For all the swimmers, all the little fishies. Like custom ones? Yeah. And everyone gets one. My vote would just be they're getting a completion of the class award. Oh. What would Tate's superlative be? She ate, she did the most. Dives. She was the biggest jumper. She was the biggest jumper. But she also did a lot of exiting the pool to get snacks and then going back and handing them to people in the pool. She was doing a lot of handing out of the snacks to people. You know, there's this little boy in there and he's so good at kicking. He's the best kicker. There's a very good kicker in the class.
52:50Like, I think that it would be cute if everyone got a superlative. Okay. Love it. Pull your lead. So, anyways, we're doing that today. Because I do think, like, we should just, you know, it's like today's the last swim. It needs to be a little bit of a celebration. Okay. Which I'm very excited about. Now, back to my hormone thing. So, there's this thing called hormone replacement, which you can do, which I guess, I don't know enough about this. If you know anything about this, please tell me, because I'm very new on the cusp of it. Like, I'm 32 years old, so I've got eight years. but they were talking about how doing hormone replacement therapy has been so beneficial for them.
53:23When you hit 40, like you get this whole other slew of feelings. I don't know if it's more hormones or less hormones, but I was like, Oh my gosh, like in your thirties and you have kids in your forties, you get this. And then menopause comes like it's never ending for us gals H. All you got to do is make a tea time, huh?
53:46It's such a good time to have no comment. I'm very proud of you. he's doing a slurp. There's a little ASMR for the listener. All right, here we go. NHL Austin question mark. As a Canadian, this is very exciting for you. Now, Austin is the largest major city with no big four professional sports team, which is crazy because tell me this, like Austin is so big into UT football, we would love a professional sports team here. It would be packed. We would be in the merch. we would travel to games, like we would ride. Yes. Kind of complicated though. Why? Because from a football perspective, it makes sense we don't have a professional team.
54:30Because we have UT. Because we have UT and you can't mess with the Dallas dynamic, especially with the Texans there. Okay. You're not going to have three teams in that small of an area, Yeah, especially when the Cowboys are, in many ways, America's team, Texas' team. Oh, so you're saying the same thing's going to be with the NBA because we've got the Spurs and we've got the Mavs? With the NBA, it's a little different because the Spurs and Austin have a partnership. Yeah, a little partnership. So they played, I think, two or four games. We got room for NHL. We actually have room for both. Is it MLB and NHL?
55:12We're making a play for both. So the NHL has begun a six-month process to evaluate adding a second Texas team with Houston and Austin under consideration. Yeah. They got to give it to Austin. We need a sports team, and we would love hockey. And Harrison, how pivotal. We've got Rocky. We've got you, who's Canadian. Like, we get an NHL team. Like, we'd be season ticket holders. So I think both a pro hockey team and a pro baseball team would do incredibly well here. I think the market is right for both. And it's also interesting. I don't know much about those two sports. I would love to get into them, and I would love our kids to grow up going to the games.
55:46Yeah.
55:49I really, really, really hope that one of the two happen. Yeah, because Dallas loves the Stars, and they get into it up there, and we would do the same. And that is what gives me—what makes me so excited about the prospect of being Hawk at Austin is twofold. One, as you just said, Dallas' support for the Stars. Those games are really fun. I'm shocked at every time I'm in that city, how much just general star support I see. The second is the way Austin supports this local soccer team here, Austin FC. And the MLS, like at the end of the day, is truly a second tier product. And we're all in on it.
56:34And it's a great league. It's just not the NFL. So I don't want second tier to be perceived as bad in any way. It's just like, it's not. It's not a big four. Yeah. If we get a big four, this city will ride. And there's two options. And I hope that one of them happens. Me too. Me too. And I'd love to be very involved in either of the two if they happen. Parenting really changes you. One day you're having normal adult conversations and the next you're asking, did you wipe good enough at least five times before noon? That's why parents everywhere are going to love the little dude wipes from Dude Wipes.
57:08They are flushable kid wipes made for potty training and everyday kid cleanup. And they're now available on Amazon in both fragrance-free and bubblegum. They're pink bubblegum flavored wipes, you guys. My friends with older kids, all they talk about is how teaching their kids to wipe properly is one of the most underrated parenting challenges. And the truth is, you guys, dry toilet paper only does so much. If your kid got ketchup, paint, or peanut butter on their hands, you wouldn't wipe it with a dry paper towel and call it a day. And that's why so many parents are making the switch to the little dude wipes.
57:44And little dude wipes aren't just baby wipes. They're made for kids, big and small, learning better bathroom habits. They're made with 99 % water and plant-based ingredients. They're hypoallergenic for sensitive skin, and they help kids get away cleaner way faster, you guys. Fresher wipe than dry toilet paper alone. And here's the biggest thing for me you guys they are flushable because let's be honest here wetter cleans better plus eight packs of little dude wipes come with a surprise pack inside for your little dudes and your little dudeettes join the over four billion butts that wipe with dude wipes every year you can grab little dude wipes now on amazon um all right more things that we dm'd i'm finding these very interesting okay the united states is the only world cup nation without maternity leave which is absolutely crazy.
58:34And as we've learned 100 years ago, we did not have maternity leave. Fast forward to now, we still don't have maternity leave in the United States and it boils down. I mean, that's at the federal level. It boils down to the States to do it. Not all States do it. Now, here we go. I'm going to read you the paid maternity leave. What, what some of the countries are and what they are. So England, 39 weeks. Amazing. Second, we've got Australia at 20 weeks. Oh my God, I forgot the first Bosnia and Herzegovina. 52 weeks, a year. Bosnia. Wow, you know what's crazy? What? I think Bosnia's playing the US in the next round.
59:14Okay, so that's the most Matt Lee versus the not. Maybe they'll be talking about that on the field. That'll be like there. Argentina, 13 weeks. That'll be the shit talk. Yeah, that'll be with the game. Mm-hmm. Croatia, 30 weeks. yeah I mean it's just like I can't believe it so hopefully that changes I know that there's a lot of people that want it to change and a lot of people were sending this to us but I think it's just like puts into perspective like whoa this whole list of countries and we're the only one with zero we would literally have a zero on here absolutely there's some serious wood to chop on this and as we discussed before I think it's something that we should really be pushing Kate should really really be running behind Kate bird is the least with nine weeks.
59:58And I mean, I've never talked about Kate Verde so much in my life than I have in the past week. Our guy's wife isn't going to have maternity leave for that long. Is his wife pregnant? I don't know. Oh. So Kate Verde, have you done? Kate Verde. Kate Verde. An Instagram follow-up? Mm-mm. Now, officially bigger than Tom Brady. I was talking about this last night. Can you believe that? To put it in perspective. And for those who have not, who may have missed us previously talking about this, the goalie for Kate Bird who tied Spain went from 40 ,000 followers to now over 15 million followers. 40-year-old goalie just having a great career run.
1:00:38To put it in perspective, Tom Brady has 15. He's 16.2. Oh my God. These World Cup topics, they make for the best dinner conversation. Jules, I could not agree more. We were comparing this guy to Natalie Hiller Mills who also grew a following very quickly, not to this extent but she was it was a book tie-in i need i need i think i may need some flowers here yeah you do do you know what i need flowers for what making the world cup we need to pull the receipts from what was it three months ago two months before the world cup started so yeah before the world cup what did i say you're gonna get into it people are gonna get into it and they are and do you know but do you know why we're into it i think so much i think it's because we're hosting it 100 that that is what i was saying is like it's an amazing event i'm so glad that we collectively get to see it firsthand now and then the added caveat was if the u.s makes a run it's only going to make it better and so what's happening we're advancing yeah so the u.s has won their group okay okay so they're advancing to the round of 32 there's one last group stage game tonight at 9 p.m versus turkey the result of that does not matter okay okay so chances are the U.S.
1:01:50will take their foot off the gas pedal and play that fine line between people not getting injured, people not getting suspended for extra yellow cards, but also not losing the momentum that they built up over the first two games. Okay. Yeah. And hopefully they go and kick butt in the next round, which I think is against Bosnia. Canada on Sunday playing South Africa. And that's a big one. Which we do need to discuss. And you need to win. Because it's a noon game in LA, which means we could fly in the morning of and fly out the night of. I'll go and you know I will. Really? No, we're going to Aspen the next day.
1:02:30We're going to Aspen Tuesday. No, I would go to one of my best friend's children's birthday party before I would do that. Great answer. No question. That would be... Great answer, great answer. If I'm flying on Sunday, that's where I'm going. And I don't know if I'm doing it yet, so we'll see. That's a great answer. Um, okay. But dang it. I literally, I cannot explain to you my brain. Like I had something so good to talk about. I'll cut in. I'll cut in. So I got a, now I'm going to give you flowers on the sub stack today when I was reading it. It was very good. I realized I didn't put in a section and I remember I was going to commit to putting in a section and you said, don't put stadiums remind me.
1:03:10And I didn't, and I didn't put in the section. And what section did you want to put in this week? Well, I didn't have one to put in. Did you want to put in the best gift for new dads? Oh, yes, I did. Okay. I got an all-time father's gift from Alex Cost. Alex Cost just crushes it in all aspects of life. Okay. He sent me a bottle of tequila. And with it, he sent me a note. And that note says 16 shots for 16 years. So 750 milliliter bottle of tequila with 16 one and a half pound shots in it. and it's a bunch of milestones on when to take uh on when to take a shot so everything like your first his first birthday you take a shot of tequila first canucks game was one first canucks game first time you take him first time he catches a fish ut football game ut football game uh milestones yeah other when he when he graduates elementary school i also like this for a wedding gift yeah i was gonna say or 21st birthday gift yes yes i think it's a very good fun milestone thing to do or like open this bottle of champagne on your first anniversary or something like that i think is cute yeah i i this it it really really landed with me so i told him 10 out of 10 gift and i stand by that as a 10 out of 10 gift and i love it because it's thoughtful and it's not overly complicated to execute well and it's for dad you know like it's hard because you know what to get mom like you just give me a cute outfit for the kids and like that will make me happy yeah but it is always hard like what do you get dad and you also got a box of cigars which you loved box of cigars was amazing the key though to a lot of these gifts though is the note that comes with it right saying this is for miles so this is like the cigars was take a step outside and smoke one of these on your own and then the intentional nature of doing so.
1:05:03Yes, and I think those are very good gifts. I would be interested too in the comments. One thing I would love to hear are other really good gifts. Yeah, I would actually. For dads. And moms. Yeah, and moms. I think moms though, like you can really crush it with a self-care something. Or I always say the number one thing I always wanted was postpartum clothes, like just a sweatsuit set. Shorts and a t-shirt. You look phenomenal today. That was cute. I think I'm really into my sets right now. Okay, what I remember. so it was an English guy and he made a TikTok talking about when they because everyone was like a little upset that the USA was hosting the World Cup right other countries they're like you guys don't even care but then whenever they came to the USA and they were like hey we want you guys to host the World Cup he's you know saying he's cosplaying this and he's like okay what do you want us to do football you want us to use high school stadiums you want us to use college stadiums or do you want us to use professional stadiums because we got them all yeah and people were inserting in the comments like there's the there's allen texas has a football stadium that i think holds 70 000 people which is like incredible so the thing is we can host the entire world cup we could actually host an entire second world cup yeah many times over and still use top tier stadiums but never use one twice pretty impressive yeah and it's one of the many things i love about the world cup is like putting the international spotlight i know this is the best country in the world well because the thing about the olympics right is the olympics while next year or in two years they're in la like that is putting a spotlight on la and not the country like i love that we have people going to philadelphia and eating cheese steaks and kansas city and seattle and beyond they're going to the best they're going to really good places they're going to bucky's like they're doing stuff that's cool i saw a mashup of all of them saying a hundred years of anti-america propaganda undone in one summer exactly but that won't like if you're just sending people to la you're not going to have all those other add-on experiences but la is also not our shining city of what america is yeah la is not in the best place it's been yeah but in la is fine like out great but like when when you sprinkle everybody into these cities and they're driving out to these stadiums it's a really cool thing and like in la all you're going to hear is like people complaining about the traffic and the homeless and like it is spread out it's a very spread out.
1:07:19You're not dealing with with those dynamics in all these other places. Yeah, it's very true. All right, ladies and gentlemen, is there anything else that you want to discuss? I guess just on the topic of like a World Cup and the international folks falling in love with with American delicacies, the ranch ordeal. So all these all these Europeans have come and fall in love with ranch. Did you see what Heinz did? Heinz or Hidden Valley? Heinz. What'd they do? So TSA had to put out an announcement saying, please stop bringing ranch in your carry-ons because they had to throw it out. So Heinz, they created like a travel pack of single serve ranch that is approved for TSA.
1:08:05Genius. Yeah. Genius. And that's actually the follow-up is there's been a lot of winners of the World Cup, but one big winners is the brands who have stayed on the ball yeah okay great example Gillette so one thing FIFA is doing FIFA we need to get into World Cup great FIFA is an organization a lot of room for improvement so one thing they're doing is if you like have the stadium rights so like Gillette has the stadium rights in for Boston's arena they're making them cover that up okay and so like what gillette did is they covered it up in shaving in shaving gel funny i think they were second to do so though who was first levi's did they do denim levi's was was phenomenal they they should have done denim but they didn't so what happened with levi's do you want to go do you want me to go no you go is they draped the levi's stadium but part of the Levi's sign was left uncovered.
1:09:11So they changed their Instagram to like the botched covering. Love it. Love it. I mean, they should have draped it in denim, but yeah, great. Yeah, they should have. But I like this creative stuff that's happening. And I'm sure that these brands are like excited. Doing it in shaving cream is genius. I had a friend study abroad and I went to visit them and I had to take ranch in my checked bag to them when they were in Italy. And they were eating so much pizza and they were like, this pizza is phenomenal, but there is no ranch with it. And so I took them ranch and I remember the first time I gave Bubba ranch and her face was she could not believe she could not believe the thing that she was putting in her mouth.
1:09:46So I understand these people coming over here and getting ranch and loving it and wanting to take it back. Ranch may be one of those things where. Actually, most condiments were like the packaged artificial version is like so much better than the fresh version. I had fresh ranch in San Antonio yesterday, and I was just like, this is not edible. And there are some times where I'm good with the package. I'm good with the preservatives. I don't care. That's one of them. Another thing I've been doing lately, sweet potato fries with ketchup and Dijon mustard mixed together. Really enjoying that. Dude, you know how we eat fries in Montreal?
1:10:23What condiment, our preferred condiment for French fries in Montreal is? Let me guess here. I hope it's not mayo. That would be the worst. It is mayo. Ew. and is often a mayo ketchup hybrid. That's the best. I've never had mayo and ketchup. In Amsterdam, you could just get like a cone of fries and then they drench it in mayo on one side and ketchup on the other side. So good. Did you know I did my university exchange in Amsterdam? Yes, because you mentioned it, I think, like maybe last week. Yeah. Here's what I'll say about that. Okay. I'm not a weed smoker. I don't smoke weed. Me either. It's just not our deal.
1:10:57Terrible place to do your exchange. It's a really, really lovely city, but it's a terrible place to do your exchange if you're not a weed smoker because all anyone there wanted to do was smoke weed, which I don't like to do. So it was all the college kids. So it just, it wasn't a good fit for me, but it was great because it was a central hub where I could travel wherever. But my bonding moments, everywhere I've lived, I've really, in every city I've lived, I've really bonded with the people that I've loved there with. and I've walked away with lifelong friends, even if I'm not in as good a touch with my Hong Kong friends as I'd like.
1:11:32Amsterdam's the only one that I didn't walk away without any local friends, but it only further infers my friendships from friends living in other places because we travel together. So we were talking about this a bit last night. If you were a big weed smoker, I'm not so sure. I don't want to call it that would be a deal breaker. but I do think that that would result in us living different lives and we probably wouldn't be as compatible. Like you and I, like we love an Aperol spritz. Okay. Like that on the weekends for dinner, like that's what we'll do. But like we, one thing we really have in common is like we are, we are compatible in terms of like neither of us are weed smokers at all.
1:12:16Yeah. I just, that's what I mean. I just think that's very interesting now that I'm thinking about it. Um, okay, cool. Well, anyways, guys, I think that that does it for us. Happy Friday. Thank you for listening. Yeah, we love you and thank you for listening. Right? Because this is for tomorrow. I guess I realized. Yeah, we're recording this Thursday. This week on Two Parents & A Podcast, happy FRIDAY!!! Rocky was on his FIRST EVER flight this week (which made it our first flight with 2 under 2!!), and we have OPINIONS. We get into the case for booking a 3rd seat once your toddler is 20 months old, the flight delay fiasco that almost made us drive home from Dallas, and the very kind woman on the plane who held Rocky for me (which prompted an interesting conversation: the price of community is being willing to be inconvenienced 🥹). Plus, why we think a 20 month old is the HARD part of traveling with 2 kids (2 newborns = a piece of cake).
This became a heavy FRIENDS episode: 1) is book club officially the new girls' night out?! (it's giving "in my 30s"), 2) the realization that friends moving away as adults is just as hard as it was when you were a kid, 3) a tip on how to stay connected with your out-of-town friends (hello weekly group chat report), and 4) an AMAZING gift to give to a new dad (Harrison got it from a friend!!). Write this one down for any new dad in your life!!
And then the fun stuff: of course we aren't done talking about SUMMER HOUSE (skip if you must!), TWEET OF THE WEEK on the new study showing women who have babies at 40 are more likely to live to 100?! (s/o Anne Hathaway), THINGS WE DMED EACHOTHER on the US being the ONLY World Cup nation without maternity leave, an Austin NHL team update (we are SO DOWN), the brands absolutely WINNING the World Cup marketing game (Heinz ranch travel packs!!), and a real talk on lifestyle compatibility with your partner (aka we both love an Aperol Spritz hahaha).
ok LOVE YOU GUYS!
