In short

The episode opens with a terrifying morning: the pregnant host experiences severe “food poisoning” with intestinal cramps, nonstop vomiting, dizziness/black vision from very low blood pressure and dehydration, and they rush to labor & delivery. At the hospital she receives IV fluids/electrolytes, nausea medication (Zofran), sugar, and monitoring; baby’s heartbeat is checked and is fine. They also discuss a toy drive update (three carloads of toys/coats collected; Partnerships for Children picked them up; planning for next year). Other topics: a solo Chicago trip and flight dating/“peacocking” tips; dressing comfortably but not in pajamas/slippers; holiday stocking ideas; weaning a toddler from a pacifier (methods like “rip the band-aid,” Passy Fairy, countdowns, and even cutting the tip); working-mom reassurance statistics; Toyota’s self-driving kid pod concept; Austin Waymo violations not stopping for school buses; and a minor car backing incident.

What about yourself?

1:06Same. So before this, I was thinking about, I'm like trying to sip on some coffee. We're going to tell you the story of what happened this morning. And I was thinking about, even though I actually feel really good right now, I felt so sick this morning that when you go through that, now on the other side i'm like man i love not feeling that it was very scary to see okay so you guys this morning what happened i like harrison picked take took bubber downstairs and then i came down like 10 minutes later i had my workout gear on actually because i was like i'm gonna have we had like a very we needed to film an ad at nine we needed to come here at 10 so i was like i'm gonna walk on the treadmill from 8 to 8 40 i come downstairs ready to go and i'm like start to have like not not baby cramps right like not but like intestinal cramps which I'm very familiar with as a lactose intolerant person but I'm like I didn't really eat anything yesterday that would cause these I'm like oh man I'm feeling those um so I don't know if this happens to anybody but mine come then they go away then they come again and like if they come once I know they're gonna come back and then like the closer they get together then you gotta go to the bathroom so I was like and sorry it's a little TMI but also like we're all humans I think a lot of people have this um you have some bodily function of some kind so anyways then I get my two eggs and my three crackers with peanut butter on them I eat the same exact thing every morning right when I wake up for nausea and we're sitting on the couch and I like have a couple bites of eggs I'm like I'm gonna just go upstairs H so him and Bubber continue their morning their new morning ritual which is queso on the couch cheese on the couch and she he he sits down if you're on youtube how he's sitting right now with his he's got his arm up she nuzzles right in here beside him because he thinks that she likes to eat more when she's being cuddled okay she's so cozy there's cheese all over the couch like i just went to lay on it and i was like okay but he gives her her he likes to give her cheese aka queso first thing in the morning and she puts her two little armies on it and like she loves it okay so I leave them doing queso on the couch and I go upstairs and I'll spare you the details but like some version of like I don't know if it's food but I don't know what happens to me but like I'm throwing up I cannot stop and I can hand I get food poisoning twice a year sometimes no no time sometimes I get it um like I can just I can handle throwing up I've been throwing up for like 20 weeks so anyways then I'm throwing up for like I'm probably I'm like on the bathroom floor like laying on the cold because I'm sweating so bad and then what happens like everything starts to go black for me and I like can't stand up so I call Harrison like eight or nine times but Harrison's doing this new thing when he's downstairs with Bubber in the morning he doesn't take his phone so he's fully present with Bubber so he's not answering so I start I'm just like yelling but I have to like muster up the strength to yell I'm like Harrison he comes up there finally he's like are you okay and number here's my first thing because I'm pregnant I was like in a non-pregnant world I have really bad food poisoning right now um but everything is going black I was like I can't see like I could not see anything it started out as stars and then like my eyes were open and the only other time this happened to me was when I was giving birth to Bubber um and my blood sugar dropped so low that I lose my vision I was like Harrison I can't see anything but what I'm just worried about is like I want to make sure the baby's okay which I just talked to two of my friends and they were like I also got gnarly food poisoning when I was pregnant and like it scared me too because you don't know until you know like is the I'm like can the baby handle this um and you're like profusely sweating so I'm like do I have a fever I don't know so we call our OB and they're like you should go to labor and delivery so we're like okay so we drop bubs off at the neighbors Harrison and I go to labor and delivery I can't see anything in the whole way there I don't remember driving there.

5:29I don't Harrison has to guide me. He's carrying me. We have the trash can and he guides me. And apparently we have our nurse that Rachel that delivered bubs, which was so cute. I knew this after because I saw her, but I couldn't see her walking in and they, they run my blood pressure check and it's like in the thirties and they're like, okay, you can't, can't have that. So I start to get, they do all these things, but the nurse was like, you had this when you were delivering tate so it was really cool because she knew the low blood pressure yeah she's like i know you have the low blood pressure um and so she was like this is alarmingly low i was also very dehydrated so they gave me the ivs they gave me the nausea meds they gave me some stuff to raise my blood pressure it was great i had to get like sugar um so we stayed there for three hours and they just got me back to i had to do a bunch of blood pressure checks but they got me back to par But they were like, the baby is fine, which is they do a heart a heartbeat check.

6:27But it it was just not the morning we thought. And I'm so lucky because the food poisoning isn't 24 hours, which is great. Or what they gave me in the IV drip worked. I don't know. Yeah, it's it's remarkable, like comparing you in this moment to where we were or where you were four hours ago. it was it was it was a very scary experience for sure and like when I first went up there like at first I was like I thought that you you were super nauseous like you had been and then when you looked at me and you were like I'm seeing stars I'm seeing black dots I was like oh shit well so that's when i couldn't hold myself up you had to um i was sitting on a stool and he had i was like you have to because i was starting to i was nodding like this off and i was falling forward so he had to stand in front of me and hold my head and i just threw up below him well he was like what are we doing i was like we have to go somewhere i'm so happy that you were fine and our baby's fine oh my gosh i was just so anyways that's how our morning started and now it's it's 12 41 and we're here so they gave me like zofran was it zofran yeah they gave you zofran They gave you two bags of IV.

8:08One with electrolytes and sugar in it. Yep. Two apple juices. Very. If you have given birth, I don't know if everybody has this, but we have a snack room. Five packs of saltines. Yeah, our hospital has a snack room, which Harrison remembered where the snack room was. and in it they have the little jars of orange juice and apple juice and saltine crackers, which you can drink the juices and eat the jellos. Why didn't you give me jello? They didn't have it? They did. I was on strict following request. Duty. Duty, I wasn't going to bring back anything that you didn't want out of fear of it giving you a gag.

8:52yeah yeah i just i also can't believe you're you're recording right now i didn't think there's a world in which we'd be sitting here recording no i told you in the i mean god put the episodes out so no we don't no we don't no we don't put it out because it's when you guys we're recording this the day before it comes out um and so i was no cushion in there no we're not this is just it does not need to go out and i have to give it to you because so i don't remember i gotta remember driving there and I don't remember the first part but I did I remember the girl saying wow you're doing a really good job answering all these questions because you know like what nausea meds I'm prescribed um I don't remember what else she asked you but just the way that you took care of me was so cute he started running blood pressure checks when she was gone and it was so cute this is not about me you did but you did it all you did a very and I kept saying to you think you just took such good care of me so thank you there's nothing else you carried me done in that situation you you did a really good job she did ask a lot of questions she asked a ton of questions and you knew you knew the answer to all of them pay attention yeah you do pay attention but i was shocked at someone like the ob lingo you knew what do you mean i can't remember i just i just remember being like oh that's right yeah i didn't think he was gonna get that right

10:22good job what's my birthday thank you well do you have you ever told i guess july 1st 1993 yeah 7193 though you know and i think in canada we do the month date different you do so i get very tripped up by that when we're filling it out on uh you do one seven yeah day one yeah because i'm 0312 1989 yeah yeah you're 03 yeah no in america you're 0312 yeah you you actually do 1203 but here's the problem that's here's the problem that's happened i grew up knowing it one way so the first whatever 20 years of my life is one way and then the next 15 years of my life is a different way and so now i've gotten confused as to what way is what way got it this is what's ridiculous you guys do kilometers yeah celsius you have a different currency and you do your birth dates different and your zip codes are different and we're bordering countries.

11:23I'm like, I think if you're touching the other country you guys all gotta use the same stuff. Because we do a ton of back and forth. We're the ones that's doing everything differently though. Than everybody? Pretty much. Like other people don't use inches, I don't think. I thought a lot of people used Fahrenheit. I think we're on the same program as Europe. I don't think Whenever I'm traveling I don't think anyone else uses Fahrenheit Do they not? But I think the continents need to be on the same page You gotta be That's what's ridiculous But to put To come back to the Crazy serious morning I am so happy That everything is good And I'm so proud of you I guess you didn't see what I left you on the counter beforehand No I did It's a card Did you open it?

12:12No, because I thought this can't be for me today. What is that? Oh, yeah, I got your card today. But when? I'm sneaky. I really wish you opened it. I thought it was a really good card. You want me to tell you the card or no? No. Okay. Let me open it. That was so nice of you. The front of the card is really cool relative to the situation. I should have gotten you a card because you just put the team on your back. This is not a new thing. I felt very safe and taken care of, so thank you. And even the nurse has said, I know that you're in good hands. I love you. Love you too. Okay. Mostly the United States and its territories, plus a few other nations like Bahamas, Belize, Cayman Islands, Marshall Islands, Paloo, and Micronesia.

12:51Yeah. So you're right. A lot of people don't use Fahrenheit. Harrison's face is like, what is she talking about? Fahrenheit. No, I knew. I'm just these I the back and forth between all the different all the different metrics is is it's a soft spot for Canada does use inches no we don't use centimeters or as my mom would say centimeters if you're like us and you basically live in activewear you guys know the struggle the good stuff these days it costs way too much and that's why we are obsessed with fabletics and And by we, I mean me and Harrison, the girls and the guys stuff, you guys. It is so good.

I have this quarter zip sweater that I absolutely love. It looks so high end. It is so cute. It is so cozy. It's coming with me to Montana. I'm so excited. Let's give the people an update here. Number one, first and foremost. I thought that was as IRL as it gets. It's such a weird shift like we were supposed to program this morning as well.

14:50And like and it is such a weird like adjustment in mindset to be like going from there to here. Yeah. Kind of off a fight or flight mode. No, but the first thing we have to do, you guys, I thank you to everybody that came out to the toy drive. So we collected toys in the caddy. That was the toy dump, right? We did three car loads in the caddy. They were overflowing. They came. Partnerships for Children came and picked them up yesterday. we put them all out on our sidewalk they were lining it everywhere like people not only did you guys show up but like you brought toys so thank you it was it was an awesome event thank you to everyone who came um i'm super proud of of of the planning and execution you did and in taking the lead it was awesome maggie and i who helped me plan it we did we had a lot of fun doing it the austin motel was amazing like everything was just it was and it was fulfilling.

15:50Yeah. So the big question is, are we going to run back a toy drive next year? Yes, we're going to do it again next year. I hope. Do you want to? I want to. Yeah, I really want to. My one edit, not during kids' naps time. Yeah, like I think there's a lot of tweaks to make, but I think the most important thing is like so many toys were brought and jackets were brought. An astonishing amount. Yeah. We exceeded my expectations on the amount of toys and coats we were able to donate. So thank you guys very much. And thank you to the sponsors who helped make the event special as well with matcha donations, coffee donations, food and beverage donations.

16:32Totally. We had burgers from Hop Daddy. Hop Dottie. Hop Dottie. Avril Fitness provided the coffee. Yeah, Bakeful. I mean, we had a ton. We had a ton. It was great. It was amazing. It was really, really great. Okay, I want to talk about your solo trip you did on Monday. okay so you went to chicago yeah well i went to chicago and for the day you left at 5 a.m we got back at 7 p.m i was on a 6 a.m flight okay left the house at 5 um i left the house at 4 45 early and i was back i landed just after six he wanted to put bubs to bed was his goal yeah it actually was my goal and you did it of course see you and but you achieved your goal yeah you got back earlier you came in at 6 25 i think and i was like whoa yeah so the big it's so like it's so crazy how much like travel changes when you have um when you have a kid whereas like the idea of like a day trip i used to avoid those like at all cost and um now like a day trip is my is my perfect travel because like the flights now though if you're flying without the bubberator you we used to take advantage solo flights but now it's however many hours what is an hour and a half two hour flight of un it's a vacation of uninterrupted laptop time like flights are productive you just forgot they were productive yeah it was it was the whole day was was um was productive and then most like the the thing that also is going I love our mornings right now like I love this you know now like I love the mutual wake-up situation the juggling of the food and then taking her to the coffee shop and like that's also was the second piece is like if I can't put her to bed the ability to get home and take her to the coffee shop the next morning and do the morning with the three of us was like worth it that was totally on my mind so how many people were on your flight i was wondering where you were going with this so the flight there was reasonably full the flight back was quite empty okay and there's definitely noteworthy situation on the flight back where the gen i had the row to myself and the gentleman beside me had the row to myself and probably 15 20 minutes into the flight i looked over and our flight attendant was sitting in the row beside me and she talking to him must have spent an hour and a half of that flight chatting to him and some serious flirty vibes going on hold on what like how old are they both same age give or take um I would have thought that he was like five years younger than me and I thought she was similar-ish age maybe a little older than him oh so did he say did you see the interaction go down did he say like hey sit down your flight must have been like really empty if she was able to sit down yeah it was very empty he moved up so I noticed it all happen because the plane was in the plane was like super empty and the row beside was empty and then once we like stabilized in the air I saw him like grab all of his stuff and move up throw it in the bin and sit down beside me so I was like oh whoa like nice move by him and um and then he invited the flight I didn't just sit with him.

20:12Yeah. Did they have like some wine? No, but when I requested, I was trying to get down the guy's attention for my beer. And I actually, I'm not even going to say that. What? Well, I was like trying to get his attention. I was like, excuse me. And she was like right beside me and like, she wasn't paying attention, but that's fine. She was having a good chat. Yeah, she was blurting. She was zeroed in on our guy. So I want to know if there. I also like, I don't think they knew each other. That's the other big thing. Oh, I doubt it. Like I wasn't getting the vibe that they knew each other. I doubt they knew each other.

20:50Yeah. So I know this couple, and they're the only couple I can think of, that they were seated on a flight. They sat beside each other on a Southwest flight, and they ended up getting each other's phone number afterwards. Fast forward to now, they're married and they have two kids. They're very happily married. but they met on a random flight from Houston to OKC. Isn't that cool? Yes. I think that's like the, because you always want to get seated. Like if you're single, you're like, maybe I'll get seated by a cute guy. It never happens. If you're a last minute shopper like me, you know the feeling.

Yeah so so the way that that this has been explained to me is It only works if you're in an early boarding group Okay, okay, that's gonna give you the optionality here.

22:57So what they'll do is they'll get to the gate and if they see a girl that they may be interested in they'll sit in her in her proximity like by the gate and they'll make sure in some way to like get her attention and like in a peacock type of way right be on a phone call um you know but not talk to her then um where oh sorry once again The male brain. That's just what people are telling you. Then when they call the groups to board, when she gets up, assuming like there's been some eye contact and you think that there's a decent chance of a good conversation, you get up and you board with her. This is Southwest only?

23:54No, this is any airline. How do you? Okay. Because as long as if you're boarding it. So that's why I said the key is like you have gates like your boarding group one or boarding group two. Because that way if she's boarding group one or two, you can do it with her. But if she's boarding group two, three, four or five, you can just wait. You can wait and go with her. Then in line is when you strike up the conversation. And the reason why they like they've had a lot of success with this is because it's a really easy opening line, which is are you going home or on vacation? or traveling for work so you have the same and like the same opening line and really good conversation and anybody asks it and here's where it also gets really good is you have this like really really good like call it three to five minute time to talk to them and then you go on the plane and you go your separate ways on the plane no interaction assuming the conversation boarding goes well then you wait for them after and you walk out with them and then that's where you can either talk to them on the way out and get their number or share a cab home what yeah yeah okay i was really ready to tear this apart i think it's great where where you got me was you're just talking on the bridge the boarding bridge yeah like you're not hitting on them you're making conversation you're making conversation it's actually very safe you're making conversation because she can say, hey, why are you going to Chicago?

25:27Oh, my boyfriend lives there. Great. Because you can, if you're taken, you can very easily weave that into the conversation or like I'm going on a bachelorette trip. Okay, boom, done. She's single. Yeah, or I'm traveling for work. Why are you traveling? What do you do? Yeah. Well, where do you live? Do you actually live in Austin? Were you visiting Austin too? Yeah. Oh, Harrison, it's a very good tip. Yeah. Okay, so you got a peacock around. get her attention and then you need to have boarding groups one or two you need to have an earlier and if you don't have an earlier boarding group then like you're just playing it up for for luck but the other part of a good boarding group is you do want to be able from what's been explained to me is it's much better if like you know you if you sit down in row 12 and that way you're kind of like you know the conversation is going to end and then you can also wait for them when you're getting off.

26:23Because if you're row 25 and she's row three, then she's going to be gone. Right. So like being in a row where you can wait for her after is what's been told to me is very important. So do your guys that do this, do they buy these tickets and when they're buying their boarding group, when they're upgrading? Yeah. Well, my single friends, like they're very, you know, they pay attention to these things. So this goes in line to the transportation department I mean, urging, I saw this social media. It was a post on Instagram. Dressing with respect on flights, right? The U.S. Transportation Secretary said, dressing with respect, whether it's a pair of jeans and a decent shirt, I would encourage people to maybe dress a little better, which encourages us to maybe behave a little better.

27:10Let's not wear slippers and pajamas to the airport. I'm so out on this. I'm a comfort traveler. Me too, but you're a comfort traveler because it's me, you, and Bubz. but if you're one of these guys going to peacock around oh i mean they're like dressed to the nines they got they at least have on a swaggy sweatsuit i will say i made a comment about about um about uncomfortable pants and i had a brand send me some pants roan and they've turned into my travel pants and the reason why they turned my travel pants yet like for on this trip on monday because I could wear them. They were very comfortable on the plane.

27:50I could wear them straight to the meeting. They're good looking. And they were good looking, so I didn't have to change. So comfort, good looking. So I got, yeah, very good use out of them. Yeah, and you wore them home. I'm actually wearing them right now. I was going to say, you're wearing them right now, and you wore them home for Thanksgiving. Well, it's because we rushed out the door this morning, and they were right by the bed. But they elevate your casual wear. I understand that. So I was thinking, okay, so what do you think about this? people should dress with respect on flights and then you got to dress for comfort on flights with the important caveat you're not allowed to take your shoes off on the flight so that's what i was going to say so do you think that he has a point here the guy that wrote this of saying it maybe if we dressed better we would act better no no i agree i just want to be comfortable do you know what i want to wear i'm actually going to go against that i think if you dress more comfortable you'll be less on edge i think people are way too on edge when they travel and so i think that that But comfort will lower stress levels.

28:48But once again, shoes stay on. I kind of wanted me, you, and Bubz to sort of be matching on our flight to Montana. Thoughts? I got us matching Christmas pajamas. Which, if you haven't gotten matching Christmas pajamas yet, Amazon was actually sold out of a lot of them. I was able to do Target delivery. and they had the, Target was the best website for finding like all three sizes of the same pair of pajamas because what would happen is I would like find his size and my size but they wouldn't have Bubz or vice versa. I've also found that I struggle to find like three-way matching things with like the mom, the dad, and the baby because I did get Bubz and I a matching, I got us a matching outfit.

29:34Do you want to know what it is? For when? For the rant, for Paws Up. They didn't have one for you. Bicker of the week. Bicker of the week is, then do you still buy it? What'd you get? Well, now I feel bad. Well, you have to say it. What'd you get her in you? Like these ranch shirts. Stop it. She will be so cute in a ranch shirt. Well, you still have time to find something of the essence to get for Alex. Yes, and I've ordered something of the essence. Okay. Oh, great. but it isn't like as good as I would like it to be I'm fine with that though thank you for trying okay I would love to try I want us to wake up though because it's like holiday travel we're gonna do it are you down?

30:20yeah I'm down I'm down I think like maybe doing I'm down like I'm down yeah okay I'm very excited I think having one matching piece would be cool like I think it would be hard to like get full fits well we could get Elwood sweatsuits oh Elwood sweatsuits done but different colors done can she fit no what actually it's a great question jules i don't know honestly i think i have an idea on how we can make an elwood outfit work for her how i think like the sweatshirt can kind of be like a sweatshirt dress

30:56she'll she'll love it because we have kids not baby i've like looked at that in the past oh she's just getting into where she can wear kids like i went to the zara because I wanted to get her some like jackets and things oh my god it was so it's so cute but her ski suit was just delivered h i saw i got the notification as a parent you know how busy you are you feel it every day and our next partner makes serving healthy meals much easier for me and more enjoyable for the kiddos and it'll do the same for you you guys when it comes to feeding your kids it is like they get hungry and then you have to cook and it is like you know how if you have a kid, you know how it is.

Remember, put your little ones first with healthy meals from Nurture Life. um the other thing about this cold weather dressing is we're wearing fur coats wrong that was one of the this video broke my brain so okay everyone knows like when you put on your your coat you've got your fur hood out and this girl made a video and we'll put the video up but she's like guys you're wearing your fur coats wrong you tuck the fur in so it surrounds your head and your hood stays on and it covers your ears yeah i i was an owner of of a fur of a fur hooded coat in college uh for my cold montreal winters and um yeah i was clearly doing it wrong it makes so much sense i want to try it i have my college coat back in in whistler so i'm gonna yeah let's try it i'm gonna try it out so we're gonna okay so just let's review kind of like what's going on so this comes out on thursday and then on thursday night actually we have our mom's group text um dinner and we're going to my favorite steakhouse here in austin called van horns um and so we're doing like we're dressing up like the girls are wearing dresses and heels and the guys are going to get drinks before like it's going to be really really really fun i'm super excited and then we're here this weekend and we're just like hanging out with friends and then monday we leave and we're off to snow i cannot wait for the snow so we're going montana to the ranch for four nights four or five nights like i don't remember then we leave the 26 to go to Whistler and we're going to do New Year's with Harrison's family.

34:18Very excited. So we're very excited. I watched this video. Harrison, I'm sort of talking to you here, but we need to discuss if we're doing stockings or not. And it was 100%. How could we not do stockings? Okay, great. I want to do them. So it was this dad and he made a video and he was like, Hey dads, you probably have a mantle that looks like this. And he shows the five stockings on the mantle and all of them have initials on it. He's like this first stocking, Dave, that's my initial, that's me. And then over Here are my three kids initials. And right in between dad and the three kids, there's a stocking right there with an M on it.

34:49And that's for Marie. And that's my wife's name. I have to fill that stocking because she fills all the other ones. This video has like 5 million views. And he's like, a couple ideas. You could go up to her bathroom and find some makeup. You could take it to the store and say, give me something else that's kind of like this that she might like. Smart. You could go get her favorite candy. I think you could do little toiletry items. Yeah, as discussed last week. Like I'm going to get you some mini travel toiletries to go in your stocking. And then he was really cute because like you could go to the store and get fruit.

35:20Don't don't do fruit. But like rubber bands, like hair rubber bands. A new every girl wants a new brush. Ask her best friends. Like one of my friends, husbands texted me, Emma's husband. And he's like, hey, Christmas ideas. So I sent him back like seven or eight links. I was like, these are all pretty good. so you could be like, hey, what are some stocking stuffer ideas? Yeah. Socks, Barefoot Dream socks. Those are good. Do you have any thoughts? I do. I just got sidetracked by something that, a Christmas logistic that... You've forgotten the name I reminded you of? No, I didn't forget, but I think we're dealing with a delay in something, which I'm a little frustrated by.

36:04Okay, let's play a game. Fill my stocking right now, and you're going to put four things in it. Ready, set, go. Okay. I'm going to do a travel toiletry bag. Smart. Okay. I'm going to do your favorite candy. Which is what? You're letting him get away with this right now? What? Parroting back all the things you just said? I wanted her to know I was paying attention. I thought that's what this was, was a test. Mine's a really easy stocking, Phil. I would text the **** and ask her a few good items to put in there for you. Neighbor girl.

36:37I'm assuming we're doing extra spearmint gum. of course in there would be a good one i love l 'oreal lip gloss color bloom b-l-o-o-m okay done um yeah other than that don't do it right now oh my god i'm like the customer service people didn't get back to me oh that's the worst it's so hard okay well let's okay let's move it right along but dads or or wives if you want to just send this part to them you can do that um okay kind of a like a pivot off of holiday and we're gonna talk about something i posted last week and i got five really good responses on which is weaning off the pacifier because i was like we're still on the pacifier um bubs hasn't weaned off of it yet and then i got some dms from Um, you guys.

37:35And what are we supposed to mean off of it? Like basically by two from what I can gather. Including for sleeping? Yeah, that's what they're saying. I think that she, she likes her baba as she calls it more now than she did like four months ago. I think it's, I think it helps with teething. Her pacifier is what she calls a BB. Like she's been asking for it a lot more in the morning now. Okay. Because I used to not really give it, like she would never really. care for it for me google says you should aim to get rid of the pacifier by 12 to 18 months to prevent ear infections and dental issues with many experts suggesting starting weaning around one years old though it's common for kids to naturally stop between ages two to four so i i'm just gonna go ahead it's a pretty big gap but i'm gonna go ahead and say this I love the natural stops like when they like the bottle she just loses interest but she lost interest in her pacifier and she's really regained the interest so here's what people said number one rip the band-aid off insert kids named here I'll call him Ryan Ryan loved them and we took it away over the weekend and he only struggled for two nights before he was okay with doing without it we told him that other babies needed them and he helped us put them in the mail to send them to the other babies brilliant idea Love that idea.

38:58Jules, you're making a face? No, I thought that was nice. We told our two-year-old son that two-year-olds don't use pacifiers, so when he turned two, he just gave it to us. That, to me, is one that, in theory, sounds phenomenal, but the reality of how few kids actually can do that, come on. I think that's great. Just two-year-olds don't use it. It's like that one time where we read every birthday their palate reset, so they'll try Brussels sprouts again. Yeah, but in theory versus in reality is, I think, very different for that one. I'm really happy it worked for them. Yes. Okay, we waited until our son was almost three and we did the Passy Fairy.

39:36It's like the Tooth Fairy. Put the Passies under there. They bring you something else instead. The Passies are gone. Great idea. Yeah, I love that one. Okay. We did a countdown with both kids. Each night we would say five, four, three more days and then bye-bye to the pacifier. worked really well for both kiddos, but I can see how this might be stressful for others. After the last night, we had each kiddo say bye in the morning and then never again. I thought the most common was people would cut the PASI, and then it makes the PASI not feel good. So that's what I wanted to do. That's what I thought we should do is cut the PASI, and this is what people told me that they also did that worked.

Read the full transcript

40:16So what I had— Oh, when you were saying cut the PASI— I meant literally cut— That works in two ways. Cut the past years and end it. Drop. Like drop it, but use the scissors to cut the end of it off. Yeah, you cut like a triangle in the very tip of it, and then they can't suck on it. So it kind of loses its luster. Yeah, I won't trust the process on this one. As long as she's out by whatever the kind of line in the sand age is, I'm good. Yeah, I think that the main concern for it's like, I think it's dental number one and then number two the older they get the more that they know it exists so taking it away becomes harder because then they miss it but I don't know I'm just not I'm not so worried about it I made a TikTok last night talking about how like I don't love the competition of milestones like when people say can your baby walk it's like we can all walk now we can all talk now we can all eat now and then somebody said just wait until standardized tests I was thinking, oh my gosh.

41:20Or like, just wait until you have to start getting into schools. I do feel like one complexity we do have to deal with is we probably need to drop it when Winnie drops it. Well, they 100 % because they take each other sometimes too as a joke. And then I think we're probably going to want to do that before baby number two comes. I agree with that. Well, we'll either want to do it before Jellybean comes. or we're going to want to wait until she naturally drops it from two to four. But like we're not going to be weaning her off the pacifier when he comes, I don't think. Okay. Well, that would be hard because she's going to see the pacifier.

41:55Well, do new babies have pacifiers? Oh, you're right. That's what I was saying. It's like if she's off of it by the time he comes. But she's just going to steal his. She loves to steal passies. Yeah, like she loves to steal water cups and passies. She thinks that her and Winnie, it's so cute. It's like communal. It's so sweet. See website for full details, important safety information, and restrictions. Actual price depends on product and plan purchased. Now let's go to things we DMed each other. Okay. Number one. some positive statistics about working moms. And I saw, I believe a nurse made this video and she said she wanted to make it because she wanted to help other working moms if they needed to hear this message. And the most liked comment was a mom saying, like, I really needed to hear this today.

43:54So if people didn't see the video, I wanted to share it with you because positive statistics, any way we can share them, whether you're a stay-at-home mom, whether you're a working mom or dad or a single mom, whatever, I want to share them with you. So this is what she said. So she's a mom of three who works full time in health care talking about mom guilt and how she keeps a printed sheet of positive statistics about kids working about kids of working moms. And so on the days that she's really feeling down, she reads it. And I think that keeping the positive statistics at her desk is like a really cool thing.

44:27So studies show kids of working moms grow up just as happy as kids of stay at home moms. research including a harvard study found daughters of working moms are more likely to be employed and earn higher wages and sons are more likely to share household responsibilities for moms research shows working can support mental health and overall life satisfaction which benefits the whole family so i think those are three really sweet statistics that if any working mom listening to this needed that maybe you're driving to work there you go and it gets beautiful um i thought i thought the coolest part was that she like she printed out a physical thing and she keeps it on her desk no I love it because it's really nice because there are probably some times where daycare or school is texting her saying you know maybe her kid hit did something new or something and it's really hard on her and then she can look at her sheet and know what she's doing is also awesome like it's hard because she's missing out on those times but she's also doing such good for her kids So I think it's really incredible.

45:29Yeah. Obviously, different arrangements work for different households. And for those on the working mom's side, a la yourself, I think it's great to know the positive data behind you doing what you do. But I would consider myself a hybrid because I can work from home. What I love about this is she's a health care worker. So she has to be in. And that's why I think it's really cool that she has it printed out. Yeah, it's awesome. It's really awesome. All right. The last things we DMed is right up your alley. Oh, well, okay. We'll do this one first. So Toyota unveiled a self-driving bubble EV pod to transport kids across town alone, like to school, for example.

46:17So Toyota unveiled this concept at the 2025 Japan Mobility Show, a self-driving pod designed specifically for kids. It looks like a little robot. It's cute. It's kid-friendly. It's built with child safety and independence in mind, enclosed wheels, sensors, an AI buddy that talks, plays games, and reacts to kids' emotions. Toyota says it's part of their larger AI robotics research, exploring how kids might safely move around on their own in the future. So how old would Bubz need to be before you let her get into this vehicle by herself?

46:55I don't like, I don't have any concept of what happens of kids any older than bubs until bubs is there. So like, I don't know. Okay. For example, do you remember how your mom said Parker got to do one lap on that train where they could watch her the other day? Yeah. And she said her and Haley both just felt it. Yeah. So I don't know yet until you feel it. Like, I do believe that that's a feeling of like, they can go in the self-driving car. Yeah. I feel like I'm so far away from like I this didn't land this didn't land with me but what if she's 12 but that's like there's clearly an age I I don't know what that age is that's why I asked you she's not remotely near it that's what I'm saying I don't know it'll be a feeling of like I guess I guess the photos in the that's what I guess the point is the photos in in the in the article or in in the post they're like five showed very young kids and it was like whoa Like when she's that age, I don't think I'll be ready.

47:55So I was curious if you'd be. Well, I'm going to have some questions too. Like, can somebody stop? Like if this self-driving car says it's coming to our house and it's taking them to school, can it stop on the way under any circumstances? I think you own it. But that's what I'm saying. Even if you, but even if you own it, like what if somebody stops it and tries to like talk to your kid? Like, does it open or is that thing like sealed? I think that it feels like there's a lot of security risks there. We need to make sure that we show a picture of what this little car looks like. It feels like someone could just pick up the car.

48:28I would let her take it to Winnie's house if I could watch it the entire time. It's cute, though. It's cute. It's friendly. I do understand it in that regard. I have a surprise topic that I remembered. Ooh, love a surprise topic. Well, I remembered it when someone sent in that DM. But have you guys seen that there's like a big problem in Austin with the Waymos? What's going on? Oh, in the school zones with the buses. Yeah, they are not stopping for buses when the buses have their stop sign out. There's been 20 recorded violations this school year. So since like August, September of Waymos not stopping when school buses are requesting them to stop.

49:10It's like a big problem. Which is a very, very big problem. And then I think I saw that they said they did a software update. And then, like, didn't. Allegedly. But it hasn't. It appears that it hasn't potentially improved things. So I was at one of those. There was construction going on. And, you know, the guys, the construction workers are out there with the stop slow sign. And they're bringing. So I had a Waymo on the other side of me. And he understood the stop slow. And he did a perfect job. And I thought that was really fascinating. So I think that they should be able to stop with the buses.

49:49Yeah, I assume they'll be able to figure it out. Yeah, I just if it if it isn't figured out now that that's definitely like a real problem. It should have been figured out before. Yeah, it's not great. It's not great. I'm not. Oh, darn. I'm really sad to hear that. Did you see Alex loves Ramos? I know that I kept tweeting. I meant to text you guys about it. Did you know that Alex loves Ramos? But I've never been in one. I've never been in one either. Don't meet your heroes. Yeah. Yeah, they can't live up to my expectations in my head. I'm a big Waymo enthusiast. I think they're say I love safety So I think they're very safe like the other day.

50:21I saw one coming towards me. I thought we're good No, but you know how many people are texting and driving? Yeah well, I'm sad to report that I Backed into a car this morning Jules Jules We can end it there Was it your fault? What happened? Oh yeah it was majorly my fault We'll talk about it after Jules Is your car okay? Yeah my car's okay Was their car okay? Was anyone in the car? No the brand new Are you okay? The brand new Porsche that was behind me Did you have to deal Were they in the car? No It was in my In my parking lot How flustered were you? You know Very Did you leave them a note? Yeah I did And I emailed my HOA lady And you left Alex's contact information and perfect.

51:07Yep. And sat there. That's like when we got our car, the person that was dog sitting at the neighbor's, she backed into me and left it out on my door. Yeah, rubbed right off. Yeah, I was like, okay. Yeah, but it was fine. I never even called her. So hopefully that happens. No. No. There was damage? Yeah. Darn jewels. Yeah. Well, I'm sorry to hear that. Okay, so next week is Christmas. yeah whoa what day is christmas thursday and so the episode next week will come out on wednesday there we go when are we recording it sunday so before we go today before we leave maria's mom is gonna watch bubber while we come to the office on sunday okay because bubber doesn't want to come to the office she she it's just an electrical cord maze in here it's not fun for her so So yeah, and then off we go.

This week on Two Parents & A Podcast - Wednesday morning was… action-packed, to say the least. Long story short: do NOT recommend getting food poisoning while pregnant. (Long story long: watch the episode.)

From there, we recap our Happy Everything Toy Drive from this past weekend (a huge THANK YOU to everyone who came, helped, donated, or sponsored — we’re still blown away!!!). Then we spiral into a bunch of travel topics (ever notice how podcasters love to talk about planes??): balancing work travel and parenting, meeting people IRL at the airport, and a heated debate over whether you should dress up for flights (spoiler alert: NOOO).

Next up: a PSA for dads — you are in charge of mom’s stocking. We break down how to actually make it good (and not an afterthought!!). And we also share 5(ish) creative ideas for weaning off the pacifier. Important note: we haven’t tried these yet — they’re methods we’ve heard work and are about to start figuring out ourselves!!

Finally, in Things We DMed Each Other: positive stats that helped ease working-parent guilt, plus Toyota’s new self-driving pod for kids???

LOVE YOU GUYS!
