1:03Unknown Host 1:Thank you. It's cold today. All right, ready? Okay. Ready? Okay. Five, six, seven, eight. Welcome back to another episode of Two Parents in a Podcast. We've got a good episode today. I think we have a great episode. And I think today's episode is the prime example of the benefits of recording on a Monday versus recording on a Friday. This is the blueprint. We just have 48 more hours of very noteworthy things to discuss. It was a busy 48 hours. The two things I'm most excited to talk about today, our car and my travel debacle, have all happened, would have happened after our recording if we'd recorded Friday, and then too much time would have passed if we'd waited for the Thursday episode.

1:50Unknown Host 1:Okay. Well, then I, so this is, um. For those wondering about our debate, do we record Monday versus Friday? Well, I think we need to go a little more in depth on this. So obviously our episodes release Monday and Thursday. And the question internally has been to loop you guys in. And since we're looping you in, you could like and subscribe. Please. Since we're going to have a group conversation here. The group could. Someone commented yesterday and they said, I watch every single week at the same time and I just realized I wasn't subscribed. Happy birthday, Harrison. I was like, come on, more of you guys.

2:24Okay, that's some accountability. I think like 70 % of the people that watch aren't subscribed. Guys.

2:30Unknown Host 1:But you're watching every week. If you're watching, hit it. Subscribers matter because like you got to remember. Oh, so this is my job, but I do want to preface. This is not Harrison's job. And I went to a birthday of my friend Michelle on Friday night, another pro for us recording on Monday. And I was like, she was like, where's Harrison? I was like Bentonville for Walmart. She's like, why would he need to go to Walmart? And I was like, do you think Harrison's a full-time podcaster? And she's like, I didn't know he had another job. I was like, this is, it's not his job. I love doing it. I said we love doing it, but it made me giggle.

3:09Unknown Host 1:So anyways, what we debate about is do we record Monday mornings like we're doing right now and then drop them Monday afternoon, which is like more, it's a more IRL, more updated feel. Which I prefer. And so that's something we've been talking about is what time do we drop and then do we record the same day? And we're here right now. Like we're not traveling anywhere. Yeah. And I think the big delineation, though, was like recording Wednesday to drop on the Thursday episodes was no big deal. The problem was this Friday to Monday gap. Yeah. Because we would be so behind. Yeah, and you're just like, you're losing two days of content because by the time, if you're recording Friday for the Monday episode, but you're not, you don't have those two days of stories and experiences.

4:03And then by the time, those would in theory come up on the Thursday episode, but like too much time has passed. But I do think that eventually we are going to go to three episodes a week, Monday, Wednesday, Friday. and I think Wednesday is going to be some form of guest episode and then Monday and Friday are going to be the you and I or like IRL's banters.

4:24Unknown Host 1:My only request on that was no learning on a Friday. Which is why the Wednesdays would be the guests. And I'm down to learn on a Wednesday. Okay, I do want to say one thing off the top really quickly because it's been heavy on my mind and I almost said it last week and I forgot but I think a lot of moms identify with this because I've been talking. So this weekend we just had like a kid-filled weekend and we were just around so many parents. Like Friday night, Saturday we were, yesterday we had two things. We had a crawfish boil in the neighborhood and then we had a swim party, all of which were just like with parents our age.

4:56Unknown Host 1:And the number one thing I've been talking about and feeling internally is this sadness around having one month left with Tate being our only kid. It's a tale as old as time when you introduce another baby into the equation. and I feel I'm like oh she's not going to be our only angel anymore and I just hope she knows how much we love her and the more I read about it the more I talk to people it's like she knows and she will love having a baby brother like instead of saying to myself oh I'm so sad about this saying how good it can be because of course she wants siblings and of course like she'll be so excited about this but it's it's just been the three of us and now it's going to be the four of us and And that's an inevitable, you know, adjustment.

5:41Unknown Host 1:And then hopefully there's the five and maybe there's even six of us one day. And that's what we want is a full family like that. But it's hard right now because it's like we're going from us three. I think the hardest jump is going from one kid where they're your whole world to then adding in a second. Because it's the only time in our life when we'll have our one little baby. Yeah, I. It's probably harder on me than it is you because I'm a little more emotional right now. where my mind my mind at it is very different like these beautiful one-on-one moments that we have together or three-on-three moments that we have together they'll just now take shape in a different form and we'll be able to add these now four-on-four moments or one-on-two moments So, yeah, I hear this, but it isn't actually something that has landed.

6:40Although, yeah, I think a lot about my mornings with her.

6:43Unknown Host 1:Yeah, with just bubs. But I know we'll find other special things that we do together. Because what I love with her today didn't exist six months ago. right like our cooking in the mornings like that didn't exist two months ago and so i just like i think that we want to be forward looking and not backwards looking one thing i think a lot about is whenever we were i was pregnant with her or we were pregnant with her no no we were not pregnant when i was pregnant with her we were expecting her remember people kept saying enjoy this time just the two of you do you remember that everyone kept saying yeah you two cherish this time just to do i cherish our time the three of us far more than i did the two of us and that's kind of my point is so we'll cherish the four more than the three i know but it's hard right now because we're talking about something that doesn't exist yet so as the mom you i think you i was just i talked to so many people about it this weekend and it's just this feeling that a mother gets i think before the next one comes and i i did say to one i want to reframe it how good can it be how exciting is this but i do feel a little bit of like two things can be true so i was so tate knows now bubba's in the belly yeah and she'll point at my belly and sometimes she'll point at her belly which is really cute yeah so what i was looking up yesterday was when can a child actually understand that there's a baby in the belly and what that means so tate right now we can say you know where is bubba or where is the baby and she'll point here's to point at her stomach or she'll point when he says because that's where yes and then anytime we see a baby she thinks that's Bubba or a baby and so I was looking at when it's her favorite Bubba her favorite Bubba I was looking up when can she comprehend it and basically they can't comprehend it really until they're three and there's three reasons why number one they have lack of object performance right so if they can't see a physical object it's hard for them to understand that it exists permanent permanence what object permanence I think you said performance oh oops lack of object permanence so if they can't see an object then they can't understand that it exists like you're not talking that's why she's always pointing at things and that's how she identifies something the second thing is okay no concept of time so they live in the now they live like right now you can't be like tomorrow we're going to go to the park it's just right now we're going to the park and that's all she can understand you can't tell her tomorrow her grandparents are coming because she won't get that.

9:20Unknown Host 1:And then the last one that makes so much sense to me is under three, they take things literally. So they might think like you ate the baby. Like they truly might think like that's all they can understand. Like what do you mean there's a baby in there? Because they don't understand how babies would come out. And so she might know. So right now Tate is able to point like baby is here. But does she really get that that turns into baby that we hold? I don't think so. Yeah, and that makes a lot of sense. The one thing I kind of got to push back was on the first point, because like, for example, like this morning, we were downstairs sitting on the couch and Maria was in the kitchen and you were upstairs in the bedroom.

10:03And we did our thing. We go, where's Tate? She goes, Tate. Tate. And then I go, where's Mimi? And she pointed to the kitchen. Maria is Mimi. And I go, where's Mama? And she said, she pointed upstairs. Okay. So she knew you were upstairs.

10:19Unknown Host 1:I do think, though, she understands, like, I am in that room. Unless she sees me leave, then she does understand that I'm not in that room anymore. I do think she understands that. She saw you in the room? Didn't you have – had you walked in by that point? You did. I typically take her in and have her say hi in the mornings. Okay. So she knows I'm in there. I'll have her walk in and then go, like, hi, mom. So she gives her a hug and then we'll go downstairs. So she knew I was in there. And if she hadn't seen me leave, then I do think she understands I'm in the room. Yeah. Pretty cool. So I don't know how that is for object permanence.

10:57Unknown Host 1:I don't know. Because you're right. And then when I left, when I was out of town on Thursday night, what did she do Friday morning? So she came into the bed. I brought her into the bed to sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star to her. And she was like, dada. But then she realized you weren't there. So she was like, dada. da da like she didn't get it like in my spot so that's why those are two things that have happened in the past couple days so i do i jules has an answer well just the object permanence thing like it's it's not like all or nothing is what i'm learning it's gradual so it used to be all or nothing maybe we aren't fully developed because we took things so literally i was like i was gonna say yeah here we are we're still we're still only on stage one and two of those things No, I think that she used to have zero concept.

11:50Unknown Host 1:So I do think we're getting closer, obviously. We're halfway there between the zero and the three mark. Yeah. But I'll say this, because Harrison and I used to have this question. Do you FaceTime your kid when one of the parents is out of town or both the parents are out of town? And everyone had told us, do not FaceTime them. It just makes them miss you more, because they don't have a concept of time right now. They don't know how long you've been gone. on Friday Harrison was out of town and we FaceTimed him and Tate was just like dada dad like she remembered he exists she existed she remembered that you weren't there and it just it took her a second to recover and it was very sad to watch so I do want to say I want to follow up on that it is best to not FaceTime your kids if they're 18 months old because that was really tough for her to see first time we've done it I guess last time so I'm banning the face I feel this is a good transition into my travel dilemma that occurred on on friday when i was coming back so i was gone thursday night just so we're we're clear on on on the timing of it all so and i saved part of this story so that way you would get some of it live on the pod for alex jules you've heard none of this wow you know none of it wow so um i had an overnight trip and one thing i i also didn't mention it was like all week i just like i had a uh like a weird feeling about the travel of of the trip oh yeah yeah you still went hate that i that's this day and age that's when i'm just like i'm not going i'm canceling yeah so it's just like something i just had like a weird like overhang of light anxiety in into looming into the travel and so uh the flight on thursday smooth the flight friday back we connect in dallas and there's a delay and um the unique thing about this delay is they're like there's maintenance issues but they weren't letting us on the plane and so i feel like normally when they're dealing with maintenance issues you're sitting on the plane while they're figuring them out.

14:01And so I'm like, all right, this seems like it'll be worse than normal. She's already talking about standby and trying to get us out tonight. Then an hour and a half in, they get on and they say, all right, this plane is officially not going to take off tonight. We need to find you a new plane.

14:19Unknown Host 1:Not good news. This is 1015 p.m. On a Friday night. So at that point, this is when I'm like, all right, I am connecting in Dallas specifically for this situation where I can get home and I can just hop on a new bike. And the kind of quick math I run is like, I'm like, best case they find us a new plane in an hour. Realistically, it's probably going to take two. So we're somewhere between like three to four hours before we get home. go on google maps find a car service i'm like how quickly like find a car service it's like dfw car service like how quickly can you get a car to the airport like we can have one there in 10 minutes i'm like all right is this guy good to drive to austin when did his shift start like all right it's just because i didn't want somebody to been working since really smart question 9 a.m it's why i didn't do this on uber lyft and then like the guy shift started at um at whatever it's 8 p.m you said 7 p.m sorry uh and boom 10 minutes later he's there i'm in the car at 10 25 i'm home in bed by 1 30 and my large mindset was like it felt 50 50 even if we were going to take off that night and i just really wanted to be there in the morning so we could have a family morning, get pubs, you could sleep in, we could do family breakfast, so on and so forth.

15:50So was that the right call? Now, what actually happened in reality is I walked out of the airport. So I made the call at 1015. And I have the timestamps on this. And we boarded the airplane at around 10 25 so i get in the car get in the car i pull up the flight tracker and it says like left the gate i couldn't believe it i can't believe that it now proceeds so i have the whole three-hour car right to check what's going on they then sat on the tarmac for two hours.

16:37Unknown Host 1:Oh, I would feel so validated. The flight landed at 1251. And you got home at 130. And I got home 130. So it netted out being neutral. But I locked in my time home, getting back home and insured I didn't need to spend the night. Finding a therapist is hard enough, you guys. But finding one who actually takes your insurance, that is something that should not feel impossible, but is very, very, very hard. And that's where most online platforms for therapy fall short. Many don't work with insurance at all, and that means you're stuck paying the full cost out of pocket or paying for an expensive monthly prescription.

17:15Unknown Host 1:Rula does things differently. They partner with over 100 insurance plans, making the average copay just$15 per session. That's real therapy from licensed professionals at a price that actually makes sense, you guys. so in network covered care for most major insurance plan and the average copay comes out again to$15 with Rula you can find the right therapist for you because they partner with over 15 ,000 therapists and psychiatrists nationwide it's true end-to-end care and Rula supports every aspect of your mental health journey from therapy to medication management you guys so thousands of people are already using Rula to get affordable, high quality therapy that's actually covered by insurance.

18:02Unknown Host 1:Visit Rula.com slash two parents to get started. After you sign up, you'll be asked how you heard about them. Please support our show and let them know we sent you. That's R-U-L-A.com slash two parents. You deserve mental health care that works with you, not against your budget. So like, what do we think about this whole, do we have any thoughts on this whole experience? So this is a toss up always. And here, let me clarify for the listener if they're wondering how far apart Dallas and Austin are. They're a three hour drive. We always will connect. Harrison and I talk about this a lot. We'll always connect in a Dallas or a Houston if we can't get direct to Austin because we say you're an Uber away or you're a rent a car away.

18:40Unknown Host 1:So here's where I think you made the right call. It's a Friday night. I think with airports and travel right now, we're seeing a lot of congestion. sitting on the tarmac for two hours I'm sweating thinking about it it's so uneasy and they're not giving you updates so you don't they're never like it's going to be two hours on the tarmac it's 30 minutes it's another 30 minutes it's another 30 minutes it's another 30 minutes so to me being in the car right there mentally I'm a lot happier because I know 1 30 I'm home the other pro for you is like they landed at 12 51 who knows how long it took Austin to get them to the gate and then like you got to go get an uber they were at the gate at 12 51 okay but then you have to like walk out get your uber like i'm happy being in a car in nighttime just a straight shot down the highway like i'm good so i think you made the right call if it was at two this the whole thing was happening at 2 a.m 2 p.m you could wait it out sorry i would have waited it out and my whole mindset would have been just like as long as i'm home that day the wrinkle in all of it it wasn't what you were saying about sitting on the tarmac the wrinkle was the risk that i was gonna need to spend the night in dallas and that to me was just like a no-no in 1 30 is about as late as i want to get home so 10 10 30 you have to make the call you can't make this call at midnight exactly you can but it's i i'm not as happy and i called alex cross and i was like here's what i was like what i was like are you am i thinking about this the right way he's like done you just got to commit and I committed and then um Alex Koss is such a good sounding board for you and do you know what I think he does let's hear sometimes I I don't think he necessarily knows the answer okay like in this one there's no right or wrong answer like do you stay or do he doesn't but he's so good at picking one and validating you and and making you just you got to commit and and what I value so much about our conversations is he avoid he avoids me making a really bad decision.

20:40So like that could have been a terrible decision, like leaving the airport, you were asleep. So like having someone to just run that quick like analysis with me, does this make sense? And like, he's got a kid at home. He was traveling with me. He fully understands the situation. And he also knows like how we think very similarly about like, you know, the, okay, hey, could a night in Dallas be fun? But no, we're not in the mindset of it being fun because we just want to get home to our families. So he really understands how my brain works too.

21:19Unknown Host 1:Does Alex Kost call you for as much as you call him for? Great, great, great question. The scale is definitely tilted towards me calling him, but it is not a one-way relationship. Okay. Yeah. Because I feel like it's a lot of times, like you run things by me and him for sure like yeah but i love that you're always running them by him but i'm just wondering is he running things by you you two are just very thorough communicators like i listen to your phone calls and something that i would make a bullet point you guys are talking through discussing changing your mind playing devil's advocate i mean these are thorough thorough conversations between the two of you also you guys are very blunt honest but my southern would translate that to blunt people want alex cost on the pod really yeah i would love alex i think he'll come on the pod i think he will come on the pod maybe postpartum that's a good one oh my gosh yeah because we were discussing our postpartum i i can't imagine what you're doing right now but i know you're gonna tell us i got a phone call from someone that like doesn't normally call me.

22:31Would you like to pause? No, I just said what's up. But this is a good transition point on why he may not be able to do the pod. They're dealing with a, their plate is very full, as his wife Laura opened a very, very cool Pilates studio in Chicago called Vinyl Pilates.

22:51Unknown Host 1:Okay, you're kind of outing me here. I did organically already talk about that, but I guess now we'll tell you it's Alex Cost's wife. When you left. Oh. The day you got sick, we were talking about where Jules is from and where she's lived. And she's like, I live in Chicago. And I was like, they have an awesome new Pilates studio. You know, that's Alex Cross' wife. Oh, cool. Yeah, yeah. Free coffee and wine. That is, yeah. I don't know about that. I texted them in the group text. I said, hey guys, are we still doing the free coffee and wine? I said it on the pod. And they were like, yes. Okay. And so, but they do the, like they play, they play the vinyl record at the beginning of class, at the end of class.

23:27It's just like really cool brick building. In Logan Square. Yes, in Logan Square. Yes, that's it. And yeah, it looks awesome. We are very excited to get to Chicago and go.

23:40Unknown Host 1:Exactly. Yeah. And then what I'm going to do is I'm going to sign up for her. She would hate if I took her class. So what I want to do is I want to like say we're coming, getting to town on a Tuesday, but like come into town on a Monday and then sign up for her class on. Cause like she teaches a small amount of the classes and other instructors teach the other ones. And I wanted to sign up on her an alias and take, take her class. Have you taken Pilates? Yeah. Okay. Cause I love the football players trying to take Pilates cause it's a different, those access muscles or you think you're like so strong and you are, you're like very strong though.

24:21Unknown Host 1:So I would love to see you in a Pilates class trying to like hold the poses. Yeah, I'm not good, not bad. Like me in a Pilates class isn't drawing any eyes. You're not horrible at it. No, I'm not good enough where people are looking at you being like, well, they're great. I'm not bad enough where people are looking at it being like, that guy stinks. Yeah. Okay. Well, so you're just, you're in, you are, as Jewel said earlier, Kylie Jenner at all these award shows. oh good take you're just there to support and you're drawing no eyes but in fact she's drawing all the eyes because she is kylie jenner so people are talking about it a lot which you in fact would be drawing all the guys because i don't think there's a lot of guys in the pilates studios yeah i will say they'd be wondering as a guy taking pilates i always felt like it was

25:18how do I say this without saying it? It's not a good setup. FTG? For the girls? Yeah. You don't want to be the creep in class. Yeah, you don't. So I...

25:33Unknown Host 1:You definitely don't. So what I would do is I would go to... Would you sit on the end? well i normally go with with a girl that i was dating oh yeah so that way like you're not there being a creep that's a good that's actually a good strategy i just i don't want to be a guy there like trying to pick up chicks well because that's and here's the thing i was thinking about this the other day because i was at a golf course a lot of guys there right yeah pilates studios A lot of girls there because one of the guys was talking to me about this. He was like, you know, why don't girls come to golf courses to date guys?

26:13Unknown Host 1:And I was like, it's just the best question that's ever been asked. You know, like I was like, those are all guys around here. Is guys golfing a green flag or a red flag? I think guys golfing is, it's a beige flag. Doesn't that mean like, it's like neither. Because listen, if you're golfing, if you're obsessed with golf and you're golfing all the time on the weekends, And it's like, then we go into red flag territory as with anything, anything to an obsessive degree. You were in red flag territory. You're golfing with the guys and like, you've got a good life balance with it. Like do your thing.

26:44Unknown Host 1:I'm all for it. But I don't think we can place a red flag on golf. Absolutely not. Cause like golf is a fun sport. It's really good with the guys. I think it's social. I think people love it. I think it's challenging. Is it not fair to say how a guy's relationship with golf? Yes. very clearly can then dictate whether it's a green flag or a red flag yes yes it all boils down to the relationship but that's the same thing with um anything tennis gambling watching sports like it can become just like gaming gaming's probably the best parallel how often are you doing it is it all we talk about do we love it more than work do we live to do it like then we're getting a little but but gaming is going to naturally skew red flag why it's just going to naturally skew red flag very timothy chalamet of you know but like yeah because i think the threshold for the amount you can play before it becomes a red flag is really really low versus like and i guess that's that's the question for the internet how many times is a guy allowed to play golf a week or how many times is a guy allowed to play golf in a month before it becomes a red flag okay i'm just gonna i i want to hear what the audience has to say i think this may be a really good question it's a really good question but i'm gonna take a i'm gonna take a gander here at it yeah so i'm gonna give them two per week two per week yeah i know that's a lot but per month i'm gonna give them seven so one of those weeks it's a one time because i think you play on a saturday and then i think you go on a tuesday night alex and we're to be clear we're talking our age right yeah we're not talking like if you're old and retired because i want to put i need to put an age range on this this is from call it 25 to 40 years old.

28:4525 to 45. Okay. Because if you're 21 and you're playing golf. With or without kids. I don't think it matters. Because I think that if you don't have kids and you're spending four days, and you're playing golf four rounds a week, like that's a...

29:05Unknown Host 1:No, with or without a significant other though. What's wrong with a guy playing Tuesday night, Thursday night, Saturday? day he's got why not he's got a job let's go back to the core question i think you need to say kids i think you need to you need to narrow down your subset here there are children in the play let's call it 28 to 45 okay this so the question is 28 to 45 with kids one kid or more how many times a month you like to play golf please share okay now my answer yeah since i've thought about it further i'm gonna say i want to say three but i'm gonna say two for my girls because i know when dad goes and golfs all day saturday it's a lot on mom so i'm gonna say two how how long how long is golfing four and a half hours four and a half hours um and like are you getting hammered or are you going because for the love of the game i think the base rate difference is when you're on the golf course you're drinking yeah because if you're coming home and then you're still no help i mean it's hard and then i think that i don't know twice a month i think two and a half sure two and a half okay i think i think at two you it's all good i think at three it's too much and now this is to be very clear assuming that you are playing as an individual and not as a couple correct because one very cool thing that i have uh one specific credit in mind him and his wife they love golf and the two of these that they play all the time and they play with other couples and i love that that's cool as a date night or something like that that's cool yeah the big problem i think is like weekends are some of the best bonding time you have with your kids around doing like fun unique experiences like it's hard to go to you can't really go to a petting zoo in the middle of the week.

31:04You can't really take them to a kids museum in the middle. These are things that are done on weekends. And golf is largely a full day commitment.

31:15Unknown Host 1:Yes, especially if you're drinking. 30 minutes to the golf course, you're warming up. You're not playing golf to be rushed. You want to be having lunch after. So I feel bad when I play golf. You shouldn't. You shouldn't. You don't play enough. You play seven times a year, and I get really excited when you go and do things. I think I'm a once-a-month golfer right now. I love – I think I get 12-plus rounds in. I love when you go golf because I think it's really fun for you and the guys. Here's my next question that I want to further this conversation on. Let's say your husband golfs two times a month.

Read the full transcript

31:51Unknown Host 1:Do you then get, as the wife, do you then get like two times a month where you go mahjong, do whatever you want have a shopping day a girls day the ratio is isn't one-to-one because like one round of golf is like for one round of golf is probably three games of mahjong no it's two because if if one round of golf is five hours mahjong is two and a half hours per session so it's two yes so but i we always say but we're also not a don't keep score i was gonna say we always say don't keep score on here but if you're golfing two times a month i think i'd be like can i play maj with the girls but here's the thing now we're encroaching upon family time like we went yesterday or on saturday we had story time then we had let me rephrase this the maj to golf ratio is three to one because you always want to give more than you receive it's a really good take one which i will accept but i don't like i think this is slippery slope because what it is is i Like we love family times on the weekends.

32:55Unknown Host 1:And so I don't know why we're dividing up our. No, I got to, I got to completely push back on this. If you, if you had a recurring Maj game on Sundays, that sounds awesome to me. Which I'm trying to get, you know, square away for an act time. I think it's very different. Like you, your Maj is like an in and out and it's kind of like a family experience. Like it's in the neighborhood. It doesn't feel like you're gone for the day. Versus when I know it, when you're golfing, you're out of commission. So yeah, I think we're talking true apples and oranges here. Yeah, I agree with that. Okay, well, let's see what everyone says about the amount of time you're allowed to golf because we are coming up on golf season.

33:39I think this is one where the guys are going to be at one extreme. And the girls are going to be at... Or let me rephrase that. The golfers are going to be at one extreme and the non-golfers are going to be at the other extreme. Because I do recognize that there are female golfers.

33:56Unknown Host 1:Absolutely. Priscilla is one. I'm okay at it. I would love to play. You're good at it. Yeah, I'm good enough at it. I've got an update for you guys on the I Am A Drink. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. um so let's discuss your birthday because so what we didn't include last thursday was that harrison was going out of town after the episode and the reason we didn't include that is because we don't tell you guys when he's going out of town um as why would we so he went out of town that night he went to bentonville for walmart so i had his birthday dinner on saturday night and what we did was we did omakase in a barn it was so cool and we invited just like his five best friends here so we made 12 total yeah and then their significant others so there was 12 of us total it was very fun but the one takeaway that you loved so much was all the guys were texting and this is like a very easy thing to do and they set a theme it was Canadian tuxedo so as they all walked in one by one like the first guy that walked in Harrison was like oh you wore a Canadian tuxedo and then like number two was like okay you're in a and then by the third one he was like everyone's wearing a Canadian tuxedo and it was just a really cute little added touch that I thought was nice yeah um a couple things here as always as not a birthday guy it's I feel very awkward how much time we're spending talking about my birthday so I want I do want to keep this segment very very short I love your birthday more than I love my birthday you went far above and beyond in the planning of everything from the day to um to the the party to the the dinner saturday night i think what i'll say i think your best the touch that resonated most with me is she baked the cake um but beyond baking the cake alex knows that my favorite dessert ever is molten chocolate lava cake and she had molten chocolate lava cake waiting at home um that i also made with that she also made which um not only is the best dessert but also the best dessert when you're drunk so double brownie points um and then yes like the the place was really cool people showing up in theme especially theme where people like you know you're not um like you you're not it's not like silly it's like it's still a cool you kind of get what i'm saying it was a vibe It was a tasteful vibe.

37:49Like a theme that's a vibe. There you go. It's a great amplifier to the night. Like I loved it.

37:57Unknown Host 1:I think they were thrilled to also do it. I also like for my birthday every year, I think that like that may be the non-birthday guy. I think the thing I may want to own is like every year it is Canadian tuxedo themed. Like whatever we do for it, even if it's just me, you bubs and our new guy, like everyone wears Canadian tuxedos no matter what. Okay, the other thing. That's my thing. So that's your thing. And my thing is I always want to make your cake. Because I did it last year and I thought I could do it this year. And so I would always like to make your cake. And I'd always like to make Bubz's cake too.

38:28That's phenomenal. I mean, there's nothing better than homemade dry cake.

38:34Unknown Host 1:Brutal. I loved the comment of the Harry Potter cake. It was so accurate. So accurate. I haven't even seen Harry Potter, but there was a photo. Yeah, I've never seen Harry Potter. I tried. I've seen the first Harry Potter. I was bored out of my mind. Things that I haven't seen that I should see. The Notebook, Harry Potter, and Friends. You know why Ginny's named Ginny? No, why is Ginny named Ginny? Harry Potter. That's so funny. I had no idea. Have you seen Harry Potter? Not really. I'm shocked. Have you seen The Notebook? Many times. I haven't seen The Notebook. Have you watched Friends? Probably, yes, 100%.

39:12I've seen, I would think, safe to assume, every episode. We watched that growing up.

39:17Unknown Host 1:Yeah, those were three things that I just missed. What do you think? Who do you think should be? Rachel? I've not watched Friends like that. Jules. No, I've seen a lot, but I'm not a fan. Yeah, I just see some clips of it, but I don't know. Okay, anyways, moving right along. So, anyways, that was the birthday party. And the outfits was very special. Now, let's move on to the next morning. so Sunday morning our neighbor comes across the street knocks on the door and I like open it and he's like God did you see your car I was like no he's like it really got hit I was like no way so he went outside because I just I drove it home from the birthday dinner and I got home like 11 p.m.

40:03Unknown Host 1:the night before and what I did was I parked on the street and I never park on the street and I parked on the street because I had to carry in the cake and I had to carry in a bunch of things so i just parked the closest route to the front door and i was like whatever it's fine like it's fine of course it's fine people park on our street all the time and yeah somebody came and just gave me a nice little kiss so we gotta put really nice we gotta put the video up and we gotta put the photo up it um one like i've never had a hit and run happen before me either uh number one number two is I think like one of the most like entertaining parts of this whole ordeal and I was like it's turned into like a neighborhood crime where the entire neighborhood is involved in this yes like I can genuinely say that we have heard from every single person on the street and the two other streets we have received their like doorbell footage from most 80 of them and there's a hunt to find this person and and that's been a really cool thing just to see is like how much the like the neighborhood is getting behind like like there was a wrong committed here and we want to solve that wrong um i'll say that i'm a little disappointed in myself because like we have all of these cameras around the house and a security flaw was exposed was that we don't have a camera shooting for license plates so we have multiple angles of them hitting but none of them that get the license plate so we're going to add two new cameras which are license plate focused for people zipping down um we're adding those this week but we have footage of the license plate coming because we've been able to detect the route that they drove yes due to ring i'll tell you ring cameras or similar cameras yeah i mean some people have a fort myers situation that we do and they've delivered like seven angles so um yeah i feel good that we have the footage needed to track this person down maybe we'll give them like uh maybe you can make a tiktok video which is like all right we have we've identified you you have 24 hours to to come clean before we turn it over to the authorities well here's the thing so somebody backed into the caddy the other day she came right to the door our ring footage camera picks up her talking to her husband she's like i couldn't feel worse i just feel terrible she leaves a note on the on the door she's like i hit the caddy i'm so sorry please call me it took me like two days to call her call her i was like girl you just added character to the car thank you for being a good person thank you for telling us we're all good here this person you could watch her remorse on we're sitting there i'm like what did she hit like and we get home and we're like it's fine this this person i the reason i was so mad yesterday you could hurt somebody because i'm I don't want to say that they're for sure drunk, but I am going to say it's safe for me to assume that they were drunk.

43:26Reasonable assumption.

43:27Unknown Host 1:It's 2.07 a.m. And if you watch the footage, which we put up, and so maybe you all have watched it by now, they don't even hit the brakes. It's like they thought my car came out of nowhere. And they didn't, like, I couldn't believe they didn't get out of the car to, like, assess the damage. They just threw it in reverse and kept going. So there's two things here. Number one, you hit me going, you could have hurt somebody really badly, then you don't even stop to investigate. Number two, it's a hit and run. You got to leave your number. You got to leave your phone number. And the windshield wipers being on.

43:56Unknown Host 1:It hasn't rained here in days. The windshield. I was like, this guy's fumbling around. He doesn't know what's going on with his car. Were the windshield wipers on before it hit? Or did the collision cause the windshield wipers to go on? Because that's how hard they hit us. Okay, well, I'll look while you guys talk. I need to know. And then one of the horns honked. I just couldn't believe we didn't hear it. and I just think, like now this person, listen, I went really light, like not even light. I just, I think if you're a good person, you get rewarded for that. This person, you've just officially pissed me off.

44:34Yeah, I mean, it's not okay.

44:36Unknown Host 1:I just think this isn't how we go about our daily lives, and we have to be held accountable for that. Now, I feel like the world is mad at insurance, okay? And so one thing that I'm very interested to track and that I want to, I think would be interesting to like share live with the viewers, with the listeners, is how this tracks with insurance. So like how much is the damage and how much is insurance going to cover? And how much does our deductible go up? Premium. Premium. Thank you, Jules. Because this is why you have insurance. It's this situation. but then your premium is going to go but so let's see let's see how the insurance companies act are we going to report hard numbers i think we should okay i'm down do you not think so sure yeah we'll tell you okay so we so we did though we have to file the claim online yeah times two with austin police report and but we didn't we didn't want to give we wanted to have the car before we filed the claim because i think that's a little more juicy it's a little more fun a little bit of footage and we're going to deliver the footage and then and then the thing about the insurance companies they're not going to want to pay they're going to want this guy to pay I now want this guy to pay just because I think on principle you can't do hit and runs at 2.07 a.m.

46:01Unknown Host 1:and you can't even knock it out of your car I just think that's bad that's loser behavior that's breaking the law yeah breaking the law can we talk about the car seat thing? yes So this was very fascinating and I was really happy to learn this. So apparently when your car gets hit upon impact and if it's a high impact collision, which this is a high impact collision, even though we weren't in the car, apparently your car seat, depending on the make and model, is void. And so, you know, which I think could be a liability issue for the car seat companies, which is why they do it that way. But just to be safe, we did.

46:42Unknown Host 1:We ordered a new car seat yesterday. Nice. That we're not going to put Tate in the car until it arrives. But I think you overnighted it, so it'll be here today. But we did get a new car seat because she doesn't love our car seat anyways. We've been like waiting on this. On the perspective, she hates our car seat. Hates, hates, hates our car seat. The neighbors have the Nuna. Rev. Which. Swivels. Swivels. What's the proper word for that? Nuna Rev. Rotating. Oh. The Nuna rotating car seat. And she loves it. And it's also so much easier to put her in it. So very excited for that to arrive. So for when you get rid of your old one, the tip that I read online is that you should either cut the straps or put like a piece of tape on it and say crashed because people will take it from the dump and use it.

47:26And it could potentially, there could be something wrong with it. So good to know. So you're supposed to mark it as damaged. I love knowing that. Is there a lot of way for them to like to send it somewhere where they can actually just like look and tell you if it's damaged or not? That's what I was wondering. And I was going to text Jamie and I forgot. So Enlightened Baby is a baby store here. And I was looking, they have like certified car seat specialists. So I'm actually going to bring it to them and see what they have to say. Basically what I read online is it could have internal, like it could look fine, but it could have internal damage.

48:01Internal bleeding, yeah. Yeah.

48:02Unknown Host 1:Which I just don't think anybody's willing. Like for us, I was like, I'm not willing to chance this. It's like we're just going to get a new car seat. Last thing is that your insurance company could cover it. Oh, our insurance company could have covered the car seat. No, I think you could still submit it. Oh, we can. Okay. I don't know. Then that's what we'll do. I just learned a lot last night. So we know a lot about our medical insurance, right? At this point, we're about to get real familiar with our car insurance, our auto insurance people. State Farm. Haven't done it with them yet. I haven't really even called them, but we're going to get to know them and see if we like our policy or not.

48:36Unknown Host 1:But I'm just like annoyed because I feel like the car was just in the shop and I'm glad I got the warranty because it covered the tire and they were out of loaner vehicles. But here's the big thing to me is they didn't let us buy the car without insurance. So this insurance, it better work. You can't buy a car without insurance. Then how are people driving around uninsured? Because your insurance can expire. You can cancel the insurance. so you can get it to get the car and then cancel it yeah i guess okay um okay okay that's cool it's cool to know that the that the insurance could cover the car seat that's good all right other things we did yesterday so then we moved on to housing final orders um harrison's mad at me because we were trying he gave me a deadline oh my god we have a bicker of the week yeah this is our bicker of the week okay So end of day yesterday was my deadline to the house.

49:29Unknown Host 1:The house updates and all this new furniture that's arriving and all the new playroom. This is my idea. OK, so I started this beast and I'm loving where it's going. I love the way it looks, but I haven't taken over a phenomenal job. I haven't taken over the breakfast nook over the finish line. So we finally ordered the table, but now we need to order the chairs. OK, and people are like, why don't you like your chairs? White chairs with a toddler is a joke. I don't think it's the right style. She also was rubbing pizza and garlic bread yesterday on the banquet seats, which I was able to get out.

50:00Unknown Host 1:But I'm not doing that on the chairs. So we're getting chairs that are a color. And we've decided on the peach color. We're going to pull that out of the couch. We're going to do the peach color. So anyways, I had narrowed it down to three chairs. Let me just add my color here. You've done a phenomenal job with the updates to the house. The nook was something that was a big high conviction project of yours. And yeah, we got the banquet seats in and then nothing had happened. And I just wanted to make sure everything was here before the due date. So that way he's coming home to a great house. It looks good.

50:44And we're just not worrying about it anymore and we can just move on.

It just looks weird, but we have the wrong size table there. Well, I want to respond to you on something. Okay. So one thing about me is like, I didn't care once the right couch arrived versus the wrong couch. Like we did get our correct facing couch. It faces the TV now. I loved having the couch in there. The part of the table that I needed to arrive was the banquet seats.

52:36Unknown Host 1:because these are the parts that make the feng shui of the house better. Everyone has somewhere to sit when there's the sectional and that area to me already feels more warm and cozy. But where that doesn't add up is like when you have this like random size table sitting in front of it. Honey, it's where you're my yin and yang. It's where you're perfect for me. It looks absurd when you walk into our house right now. But now we've ordered the table. Which one does that arrive? Hopefully at some point next week. Okay, love the table. Love the table. Anyways, I didn't know what chairs to get. And there's a lot of times where I love the internet.

53:10Unknown Host 1:For example, the car seat situation. For example, they were, they actually, some of the comments had the car right about which car hit us. Because now we know which one it is, but like they had it right. Here's what I'll say. So then I put up my chairs. When I put up the chair options, options one, two, and three, and four, all of them were in stock and could arrive next week. Everyone was like, I think the overwhelming winner was option two. So last night, by the end of the day, when my deadline hits to order the chairs, I say, Harrison, get four of option two. He goes online and they're backordered.

53:46She sold out the chairs.

53:47Unknown Host 1:He's like, do you think, and I was like, oh my gosh, oh no. Because I was like putting the website on there and everything. Where I'm mad at myself is like, why did I not affiliate link those? I get nothing for that. yeah i just i'm really upset in the future i think we need to like if we have a leading candidate i think we need to like order them because i feel like you have 48 hours to like cancel your order so that way this doesn't happen because now we don't know what chairs we're gonna get jules do you have any ideas for our chairs no i did like that you you were going coral though what the color you mean yeah i like the color yeah i think that's the best option for the color.

54:29Unknown Host 1:I think it's added depth. Deadline was an actual deadline. I was like, let's get these things ordered. Well, I had a deadline to order chairs and you had a what? I have no idea. A little reprimanding in the kitchen. A lot of cooking with bubs. Is the cheese getting everywhere? It's everywhere is an understatement. And I love it. And I want you guys to do your thing together and you clean, but you do a guy clean. And there's a difference between a guy clean and a girl clean. Because a guy clean, you get out the vacuum and you do the best that i think your eyes can see but the girl clean we're wiping cabinets i'm getting every bit of the cheese off of it and i just think dad clean versus mom clean like even though you're cleaning it even though hold on dad is cleaning it up mom still has to come in and do the mom clean where the counters wipe down where i'm vacuuming in the little crevices did did you see bub's face when she ate the frozen berries i didn't i didn't see that so that's why like i'm so happy that i like actually video these things because like she's in front of me and so i can't see her facial reactions it was so cute bubs was stunned she was very unhappy well the number one she kept what didn't get shown in the tech talk is like she was like chowing down on those frozen berries for like five minutes.

55:55So she just kept going back for more.

55:59Unknown Host 1:I've got a bicker of the week for us. Okay. I've got an actual bicker of the week. Yeah. So Tate was wearing a Target pink sweatshirt. And she was cooking her smoothie with her dad. And I came downstairs and she had berries and avocado all over her sweatshirt. And I was like, can we take that off? Can I spray and wash it? Can I put it in the wash? And Harrison was like, she's a toddler. Can we do that in like five hours? And I was like, no, we need to do it right now or we're not going to be able to preserve the sweater because we got to get the berries out of it. And he was like, or she can just have a sweater with berries in it.

56:32Unknown Host 1:Like this sweater can just have berries on it. And I was like, that is so dad of you to be like, let's do it later. But I felt the pressure and the need to like preserve the sweatshirt. Whereas he was like, who cares? Let her keep going. So I want to know what the internet thinks. I think all moms are going to be on my side. All dads are going to be on your side. I mean, yeah, we ended up taking the sweater off and putting it in the wash. But, like, with the cooking and eating situation going on right now, like, I guess what I could just do is put a bib on her. But I figured she just, like, doesn't like bibs.

57:02Unknown Host 1:She likes bibs when she's eating. She knows she's eating and she knows she needs a bib. But not when she's cooking. That's the thing. I don't – oh, my – Harrison. What? A mini apron. Matching aprons. Like, how did I not do that for your birthday gift? That would have been a birthday gift I would have loved. You did more than enough for my birthday though. But that would have been an unbelievable gift. What would it be? Easter gift? An Easter gift, yeah. Oh my gosh. Bub's in an apron. And you having one too? She thinks if you have it, it's so much cooler. Little chef hats. Oh my gosh, Julie. I think that's too performative.

57:36Do you see I bought her a cowboy hat?

57:37Unknown Host 1:I did. She likes it. You guys go to Cavendish's all the time. Yeah, Cavendish's, it's a great family experience. Well, you never take me. I was napping. Thank you for letting me nap. Yeah. It was a little upsetting. There was like a lady there who was like really hogging the boot section. Tough. And like really like wasn't playing sharesies with like the section Bubz wanted to be in. So we ended up going for the hat. Did Bubz understand that? Did Bubz understand that we had to share the section? No, Bubz like they overtook the section. so bubs couldn't even really get in there the way she wanted so she like didn't there's like a section of all pink boots i gotta tell you something speaking of this so we went to the park bubs and i and we kind of had our first experience of a kid being not so nice to her oh my goodness she wasn't the the kid was four it was a girl and then tate is obviously 18 months old and of course this is going to happen of course some of the older kids are going to get frustrated with the little kids and of course throughout life there's going to be like no you don't do this you don't do this but they were both trying to go down the same slide and this four-year-old just pushed bubs out of the way and then went down the slide and she just had this look on her face and when i tell you my heart broke into half and i just wanted to like grab her and hug her but then i was like it's okay this is life she doesn't care and what did bubs do nothing bubs did nothing did she go down the slide yeah she went down second she went about her merry way but the first time that somebody's like mean to your child it just like breaks your heart even though the kid meant nothing by it heartbreaking it's heartbreaking it's a really hard we're taking bobs to go get our arm looked at again today hopefully it's all recovered yeah i think it will because she's had the cast on 24 7 so i'm actually feeling really good about this appointment we'll update you remind us to update on the cast um we're also going to the petting zoo tomorrow which is very ironic of you to say nobody's going to the petting zoo in the middle of the week but it's spring break this week so some of the parents they had trips planned and like ironically they're not going anymore and so everyone was like can we do the petting zoo on tuesday at 10 a.m and i was like yeah we can look at that we're gonna go to the austin rodeo i guess i'm gonna play golf and after all um okay let's move let's talk about something that harrison submitted he doesn't submit many things to the topic pod but you want to talk about is reality tv make you more dramatic

1:00:12what do you think about this jules do you think reality tv makes makes people more dramatic why

1:00:18Unknown Host 1:don't you expand upon it before she she weighs in that's okay i don't think i've watched reality tv in i don't know let's call it five to ten years okay growing up i was always i'd say i had it would tune in when things would start trending. What were you watching growing up? We didn't have reality TV growing up. Did we? Yeah. Like what? Real Housewives? Big Brother? Like the challenge? Survivor. Survivor's actually, and I'll say this, the only reality TV show I would ever do is Survivor. You'd be good at it. And I think I would like to do Survivor. You know how reality shows that have their moments?

1:01:00I feel like I would tune in for those. The one that has popped on my radar is now Southern Charm. Okay?

1:01:09Unknown Host 1:From Survivor to Southern Charm. They're very different reality shows. Yeah. Oh, Vanderpump Rules was the last one that I found hilarious. Okay, I never watched it. And I probably had a couple seasons of that. So over the past two weeks, I've tuned into Southern Charm. and these people they live in a consistent state of chaos and they make the smallest things as dramatic as as one can okay like i'm watching i think i'm watching last season and like they'll go um there's this one guy his name is craig all right like the drama queen of drama queens a lot of us have heard of craig because of page disorbo okay this guy he like they went on a on a trip uh to the bahamas and there was three bedrooms for four guys meltdown meltdown that he didn't have his own bedroom when they're staying in the presidential suite like and just behavior that like you don't tolerate in life right like if i had a friend do that it'd be like like go home right and this guy's actions are consistent like you got you you got to leave the party, man.

1:02:26And so, but I wonder like if I'm watching this, is that going to make me more susceptible to just like acting as, you know.

1:02:38Unknown Host 1:Dramatic. Is that going to, yeah, open up my dramaticness? Are little things in life you're going to. Because there was a situation at a restaurant the other day with, around beer and it was so dumb. And I caught myself getting a little worked up. And it was a situation I'd never get worked up about. I'm like, am I getting worked up about this because of this fucking show I'm watching where they'd freak out? Or is this, because it doesn't feel like a me thing. So here's what I think. I think that they become trained. I think we're seeing it with Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, which I haven't watched.

1:03:16Unknown Host 1:I'm like, now I'm like three seasons behind. but it was my most recent and only reality show. Do you know this Craig guy? Yes, we know Craig. Paige DeZorbo's ex-boyfriend. Yeah. Craig Conover. Yeah. Unbelievable character. Yeah. I don't know how he is on the show, but here's what I'll say. I do think once you get into the reality, you get more air. I gotta tell you another Craig story. But you get more air time the more dramatic you are. This really nice gentleman on the show. Who was the nice gentleman? I'm blanking on his name. Tall guy, blonde. I know who it is. He goes over and he tells Craig, he's like, hey, Craig, you're not being a good friend.

1:03:54That's nice. He's like, you know, I want to see you more. Austin? Austin, that's his name. And he, like, this Austin guy is being a good guy. He's like being a good friend. Hey, man, would love to spend more time together. You know Craig's reaction? What? Craig just stopped being friends with him. you can't tell me to change and it was a dude he's he's just saying he wants to see you more man like he's being really nice yeah this craig guy's unbelievable in a good way though but here's the

1:04:30Unknown Host 1:thing is craig making good tv you're talking about it i'm tuning in i'm excited for this next season so craig's putting on a show can we find out well i just want to look at what season i'm watching and how far behind I am. You're definitely behind. But do I think that watching reality TV makes you more dramatic? No. I think it does. I think it's a youth. I think that, but I don't think these, I don't think Craig, I don't think these people are that dramatic in real life. I think they know they have to play it up for the show. And so I guess that's my next question is how much of them being dramatic is how they're cutting it versus who they actually are in real life.

1:05:12So I'm on season 10.

1:05:13Unknown Host 1:How many seasons are there? Well, and by the way, I started on season 10 for the record. I didn't watch 10 seasons. Wait, why are you watching this? That's the wonderful question. Yeah, why? What prompted it? Because I want just really kind of like background shows before I go to bed. Not if it's changing your behavior. I agree. And I'm going to be on the lookout for this. I'm going to take accountability for you. And I'm going to say, if anything gets a little dramatic, I'm going to say, this isn't Southern Charm. Am I a dramatic guy? You can be. It's situational. But I think your drama is appropriately applied.

1:05:52Unknown Host 1:Like with the car thing, for example, no drama from you. This is life. I would say that I'm not a dramatic guy. I don't fight with my friends. You definitely don't fight with your friends. I'm pretty low conflict. But you really are, you're on, you think the Oscars are boring. And like, we've talked about that four or five times now this morning. So like, you do have your moments, but like, they're not. Yeah, I think these Oscars are. You're funny. You kind of have a one track mind, but like the car, something that could be, you couldn't, you couldn't be bothered. This is life. We'll find him.

1:06:24Unknown Host 1:We will handle it. We'll move on. Yeah. I'm excited to continue watching this show. I think if you went to dinner with Craig, I'm just guessing here. I think you wouldn't, I don't, I think you would find him not as dramatic. and I think you would laugh and say, yeah, sometimes for the show I put on a little bit. That's what I think. Maybe not. I think that when it all started, if we went 10 seasons ago and if I had dinner with them season one or season two or season three, I think that we probably would be friends. I think that the things have gotten so dramatic for the reasons you've said that I think these probably, like the chaoticness, I don't know.

1:07:04I feel like it may be past the point of no return.

1:07:06Unknown Host 1:So maybe he's lost... Craig, do you want to have dinner together? So maybe he's lost the plot in his own mind. Maybe reality TV is actually bad for him and his brain is rewired now to be more dramatic. That's kind of what I'm getting to. For you, I don't think we can let that happen. Are we beefing? No, it would be one-sided beef. Okay. He's just ridiculous. Does he have the pillow company? Who is the pillow company? Craig Conover, I think, has restaurants. well let's go eat at his restaurant well you know the restaurant i think carriage house is him what what what carriage house in new york city no way it is it's like right on um 10th yeah craig conover's carriage house it's like uh in austin no no in um in new york like you would know it with the phenomenal beef he lives in new york i I thought he lived in Charleston.

1:07:59He was splitting his time because he was dating Paige DeSorbo. Paige has been in the show for 20 minutes total. Well, she's not a character of the show. She's not a character. She's on Summer House. So she doesn't have to be on that show. Yeah, Carriage House in the West Village. Yeah, just long story short, the level of chaoticness is something that I haven't really seen in real life before and I just I hope it doesn't influence me who has the pillows

1:08:35Unknown Host 1:we walked by the pillow store I'm looking at carat shows when we were in Charleston and there was the there was those girls outside taking selfies and they were like this is somebody also Craig yeah there was somebody on Southern Charm he's got a pillow company you've heard us talk about hungry root before so you know how much we love it because it truly simplifies our life As a busy parent, especially one that's working, it's such a game changer for us, saving time, reducing stress around mealtime, and it takes away the weekly grocery shopping because of Hungry Root. Here's the thing. Hungry Root plans all of the groceries for you.

1:09:12Unknown Host 1:For that week, it fills your cart. It delivers everything you need to have healthy, everyday recipes, all while fitting into your health goals, dietary preferences, and, of course, your budget. They have the best variety, you guys. Unlike other food delivery companies, Hungry Root has over 1 ,000 grocery items like smoothies, sweets, kid snacks, salad kits, ready-to-eat meals, and supplements to choose from each week. And quality. Hungry Root holds all of its food to the highest standard, screening out over 200 additives, including high fructose corn syrup, artificial sweeteners, and preservatives, you guys.

1:09:48Unknown Host 1:You're going to love Hungry Root as much as we do. For a limited time, get 40 % off your first box. Plus, get a free item in every box for life. Go to hungryroot.com slash two parents and use code two parents. That's hungryroot.com slash two parents code two parents to get 40 % off your first box and a free item of your choice for life. Oh, this is the next topic on here. I assume we're going to, we're going to, yeah, okay. AI tells you you are right, like 50 % more than humans. So, here's what I would like to say. Alex, cost is better than AI. He is not telling you you are right 50 % of the time.

1:10:26Unknown Host 1:The second thing is I've been seeing memes about this. And it's like, hey, chat, I robbed a bank and I was wondering what I should do. And they're like, you were probably having a really tough day, so don't be hard on yourself. Do you want me to send you some options for lawyers? It's like, yikes. There's two parts to the study. So part one is showing that it's 50 % more. How do they describe it? AI tells you you're right, like 50 % more than human. So that's part one to the surveys. But the second part of the surveys is they tested a more deviant AI, which was way more agreeable with you through bad actions versus an AI that would be more down the middle, go against you, tell you when things are actually bad.

1:11:18and people rated the deviant, more agreeable AI higher in terms of satisfaction surveys. And so the problem being that consumers like an agreeable one more, which then only reinforces it to be more agreeable even when it shouldn't be. So the builders are then incentivized to build it to agree with you versus build it for truth.

1:11:47Unknown Host 1:This is where we have to be. We have to hold ourselves accountable as a society, though. This is where we have to say, I don't know how to verbalize this, but we have to be better humans than this. Because you have your gut. I mean, it's how social media works. The social media platforms are very well aware of the negative effects of addiction of social media. But they build these things to keep you hooked. So as a society, what should we do? Try to steer away from the deviant AIs? No, I think it's self-accountability. That's what I'm saying. We need to recognize where the vulnerabilities are.

1:12:30We all collectively, as a society, learn. I've come to terms with the negative effects of screen time. That's why we're consistently trying to implement ways to reduce it. Will I pull up my screen time this week? Absolutely not. Because on that three-hour car ride back from Dallas, what did I do?

1:12:48Unknown Host 1:Screen time scrolled for three hours. I wanted to keep, I wanted to keep the driver company. There's a time and a place for scrolling and that's one of them. Well, I, I, you did 15 minute check-in with them. Every 15 minutes I did check-in with them. Here's what I, I didn't go to bed. So I just did TikTok in between then. So the pendulum is always swinging one direction or another, and it's always taking us a while as a society to learn about the effects of things. So screen time is a really good example of this. And I think now we're over-indexing on less screen time because we've learned the effects of it.

1:13:16Unknown Host 1:AI, I do think, will be this. I think in 10 years we'll be pulling back on AI, some versions of it. I do think there's some good to it. I think there's some good to screen time. But I do think we are going to have to, number one, remain self-accountable, like you have to with your own screen time. But with AI also, you're going to have to say we have to be good humans and you have to have a good character. But I do think in 10 years we'll learn the effects of AI and be like, wow, people stopped thinking yeah but in in the interim i think it's just really important for us to recognize like while there's amazing benefits to these new technologies there's there's also there's also negative effects and so we need to look at where we should be using it more and and using it less but i also think too like advice like using ai for advice versus using a ai for to photoshop your curtains in your kitchen like come on yeah i think if you need if you need ai to paint your house four different colors to try on a black a white a gray and a blue i think that's fabulous because i think that's working smarter not harder if you're going to ai being like i'm in a dilemma what should i do like you need to call a friend that's where that's where ai can't take a human's job totally because they're robots they don't have feelings they don't have do they have moral compasses from right and wrong no so we're at the mercy of who programmed them that's a place that i want to go and their biases and their biases that sam altman and that's not that was this sam on your radar um kind of not really this sam altman he has turned into the villain of silicon valley good why i don't know anything about him but i'm down for a villain in this story he's the open ai guy um but it's interesting that he hasn't turned into the villain of like more of the mainstream media yet.

1:15:02Okay, well, we're - I'm surprised that he's not on your radar. No, I know who he is.

1:15:07Unknown Host 1:What's he doing? No, him is like the villain story. But why is he villainized? What's he doing? So I think the number one story that people villainize him on is AI started as a nonprofit. And so all of these people put billions and billions of dollars into OpenAI under the context that it was going to be a nonprofit, and now he's switching it from a nonprofit to a for-profit. Unrelated, but did they lose their tax breaks on donating to a nonprofit and then switching it back? I don't know the intricacies of it, but the way it was started and I think the mission of it day one versus where it is today is very different, and people who put a lot of money into it aren't being compensated for it.

1:15:58the other point to it is I think that people believe Sam has some pretty extreme views that are then programmed into the models.

1:16:12Unknown Host 1:How can we get a non-biased AI? It has to be a non-biased programmer.

1:16:21I think that, yeah, inherently there's going to be bias behind everyone and so it's important to understand like where each model sits and while grok has great um use cases there's bias there while perplexity is great where cloud has great use cases there's bias there and just understanding the biases of each model well i just think if you want a recipe

1:16:42Unknown Host 1:then fine please use it okay use use your your chat but if you want to talk about problems and things that you're feeling or how you should handle treating a friend or what you should do about a crime committed, we cannot be asking AI. Okay. We want to, okay. So in the comments, we got to follow up on both of these. Number one, dogs can use the family bathroom. That was, we were discussing last week. If you missed it, the question started with, if you're a dad and you have a little girl that needs to go to the bathroom, should you go into the girl's bathroom or should you go into the guy's bathroom?

1:17:16Unknown Host 1:And overwhelmingly dads in the comments were saying this gives me so much anxiety. I don't know the answer to this question. And women in the comments were saying, come into the girls' bathroom. Everyone's welcome in the girls' bathroom. There's also the point of there's urinals in the guy's bathroom, which aren't super private, whereas in the girls' bathroom, it's all private stalls, which does make sense. But then to think about a guy, a grown dad going in there, that is awkward. And if you're in an airport bathroom or if you're at a sports game, those bathrooms are really crowded so I do think it's weird for dads but the number one point that was being hammered home is like this is why we need family restrooms but I think the reality of it is not everybody has not all areas have family restrooms so I don't know I guess if I have to give like a number one consensus it's dad go into the ladies bathroom and like announce yourselves go straight into the stall I don't know it's tough it's tough but it does sound like the overwhelming majority would you agree is dads can go into the girls bathroom yeah um but i imagine even doing that like for a grown adult is hard so i don't know i'm still torn on it there's no winning there's it's like a win-win lose-lose like it's a tough one it's a tough one for dads so right now if you're going to the bathroom with bubs where are you going at this age she's so little but if she's six years old where are you going we'll see at the time i don't i actually don't know well the comments want you to go into the ladies bathroom and announce yourself so it's good to know it's good to know it's good to think about yeah the reason i ever went into the family bathroom the first time p and i were talking after we recorded last week is because jenny hopped out of her bag once and went under the stall and that is a common occurrence and that's why i ever started going into the family bathroom interesting now that's a real thing yeah I'm surprised the bags don't close.

1:19:14Jenny's never getting close in there. She is. It's so mean to close a dog in the dog bag, I think. Yeah, and she's a perfect angel with it open. She's a devil with it closed. Not with the bathroom, though. But everyone in the comments there is saying the family bathrooms are also for everyone. The one thing I don't agree with, well, I'm going to get canceled. Everyone's like, dogs are family. Like, okay, come on. We're going to the family bathroom, not because dogs are family, but because I need some extra

1:19:44Unknown Host 1:space. Where what I thought about afterwards when I was on a walk was who I wanted to hear from was somebody with dogs and kids. Yeah. I think that would be the most unbiased response because like I'm coming at it with kids. You're coming at it with a dog. So I'm like, I don't think we know the answer. Somebody with both I think would have the answer. Yeah. Also, I'm not going in there for 15 minutes. It's like a quick in and out and we're done. Exactly. I actually have a new beef with bathrooms. And I've noticed it mainly in Miami, but it's the single bathrooms where it's a girl and boy, but there's just one stall in there.

1:20:16I think people are going in these bathrooms and scrolling on their phone for like five to 10 minutes and taking forever.

1:20:23Unknown Host 1:And then coming out, holding their phones. And I just want to knock on the door and be like, put your phone up because like, I know you're done. But put your, people are, it happened to me so many times in Miami. And I was just like, I know they're on their phone and I'm leaving my phone at the table. All you do when you go to the bathroom, you just do, even if it shows someone's in there, you just do a little pull down, let them know you're outside. Very respectful. I do agree. Like give them a little heads up, a little knock. And you don't do it aggressive. You don't knock. Just do a little handle down.

1:20:56Unknown Host 1:And that wakes them up. Wakes them up. Let's them know. I do think people are getting stuck on their phone scrolling. I totally agree. and I think it's one thing in a giant bathroom but it's a whole other thing in bathrooms where there's just a one in and a one out especially when people are drinking or when they're pregnant and they're peeing a lot it's like come on come on we gotta stop thinking about Craig and all these fucking issues all these dramas of Craig I can't believe Craig's so dramatic on the show he's so funny I would like the audience to give you more TV recommendations that aren't southern charm I completely agree no I need something brainless to watch before bed I just think there's better.

1:21:33Unknown Host 1:I'm on this Persephone show. I'm loving it. Persephone. It's, yeah, it's like a girl that gets married for a dowry. Like she like saves her family because her family needs money. And so she marries this guy and they'd never met. I mean, it's like way back in the day. Like, I don't know, 1800s. So there's this other character. Can I keep talking about it? This lady. Cam? I've always liked her. No, there's no Cam in the show. Oh, is Cam not on it anymore? I've never watched this show. Miss Lady or Miss Patricia. She's the queen. And when Miss Patricia calls you to the house, you go to the house.

1:22:10Unknown Host 1:It's very southern of them. And Miss Patricia, she had dinner with just the boys. But she is the queen. This lady's phenomenal. Have we talked about this? Did you call people Miss something in Oklahoma? we so in Oklahoma the way we would handle missus or formal names was never miss their first name it was always miss their last name or I would call them by their first name because I knew them well enough like I called my my best friend's mom by her name yes did you do missus and misters we're a casual yeah casual crew did you do missus and misters I think like the default would be the first interaction.

1:22:56You would say Mr. and Mrs. And then there would always be the like call me X. Yeah.

1:23:03Unknown Host 1:I think the parent always says. Yeah. But I think the older you get, like I do want bubs to know the first time she meets an adult when she's like 16 or 17. Like, you know. Yeah. She starts that Mr. and Mrs. Right. For sure. Hi, Mr. Smith. It's nice to meet you. Yeah. Hi, Mrs. Smith. And then they can say call me Tom. Yeah. then you can call him tom oh speaking of tom burger king another thing we need to answer burger king did call us back but it wasn't tom i think we already discussed this no i don't think we actually ended up saying it oh so they did the bk called back there's one 3.4 miles from our house so if we want to go it just has bad ratings and the one that has good ratings is six miles from our house but like i'm down to try it also i've been thinking a lot about the mcdonald's ceo because people are i mean they're really going hard after him still still haven't heard from him I think that people are trying the Arch Burger.

1:23:53Well, the funny thing is the burger looked good.

1:23:56Unknown Host 1:I think it's working, and I just hope he knows that. Because he clearly doesn't understand internet banter, but I just want him to know people are trying the Arch Burger. Yeah, where I feel bad for this guy is like, you know it's like the first time he's ever kind of like popped his head out of the hole publicly and like kind of said hi to the internet, and they just whacked him right back in there. Whack and mold him back in. He's not coming back. He'll never do it again. He got one taste of the internet, and goodbye. and he just did not lean into his own joke. Yeah, he had, as we said, he had his moment.

This week on Two Parents & A Podcast, someone hit our PARKED car and drove off… which quickly turned our neighborhood into a full-blown detective operation. Ring cameras were reviewed, theories were formed, and the neighborhood group chat is working overtime trying to figure out WHO hit the car.

Before we get there, we talk about the emotional side of preparing for baby #2 — including the weird “grief” mom’s experience going from one kid to two — and when toddlers ACTUALLY understand there’s a baby in mom’s belly. We also debate whether you should FaceTime your toddler while traveling or if it actually makes things worse, plus the classic travel dilemma: wait out a flight delay or just start driving.

Then we get into some cultural debates: are men welcome at pilates, and is “plays too much golf” actually a relationship red flag?

We also recap Harrison’s birthday and share a quick house update, plus a pro tip we learned after the hit-and-run: experts recommend replacing your car seat after an accident (+ the important step of marking the old one as CRASHED before disposing of it so it doesn’t get reused).

We wrap with Bicker of the Week: mom clean vs. dad clean (very different standards), the first time someone is mean to your kid, whether reality TV makes people more dramatic, the weird way AI seems designed to flatter us… and the family bathroom debate continues. OH and Burger King called us back!!!

LOVE YOU GUYS. Thanks for listening!!!
