In short
The episode is a parenting-and-lifestyle discussion from Two Parents in a Podcast, centered on “holding the line” (consistent boundaries), anti-optimization culture, and how mindset affects well-being. Alex describes doing a 36-hour fast on advice from a longevity doctor, aiming for insulin and cellular repair; she stops at 36 hours after becoming irritable and eats eggs and chicken sausage to reset. They debate optimization obsession (e.g., tracking steps with an Apple Watch) and argue for “middle” living (enjoy wine/cake; don’t turn recovery into a punishment). They cite a sleep-study example where fake “good/bad sleep” scores changed perceived productivity, and discuss modeling behavior for kids under age three (show, don’t explain), using examples like saying hi to construction workers and kids learning cleanup by watching. They also cover bedtime rules vs flexibility, street safety (“zero in the street” confusion), and punishment framing (don’t make reading/running “punishment”).

That's why you rack. So, Jules, I woke up this morning. Okay. I was going to extend my fast from 36 hours. to either 48 or 72 hours, more likely 72 hours. But I did not. And do you know why I did not? For me. Well, I was walking to the coffee shop by myself, dropped Bubba off, and had some work stuff to do.
1:13Solo mission. Solo mission. A rare solo mission. Bubba did not go to the coffee shop this morning. And I caught myself getting very irritable about something on the way to the coffee shop that I just, like, shouldn't have been irritated by. And I was like, you know what? But even though I feel good after a 36-hour fast, this is not going to lead to the most productive day. So I had a black coffee at Swedish Hill, walked home, and made myself some eggs and chicken sausage. There you go. Protein. You went heavy protein. You ate. You fed. You watered. I'm really proud of you. For the listeners. I wanted to break my fat.
1:53Well, I mean, the listeners may have preferred me on edge. No, I don't think so. Also, I was concerned I wasn't going to be focused. I feel like we had some very good topics today. Who were you getting irritated towards? Who was going to get the... Who was on the receiving end? Was it me? No, it was a work thing. Oh. It was a work thing. And I just like, I shouldn't have been frustrated by it. Good awareness. Yeah, I was like, all right, this is the result of me not having eaten in 36 hours. And then once you ate, were you less mad? Well, yeah, I got my madness towards the situation went to zero, irritatedness.
2:32Funny enough, once I caught it, I was like, all right, I'm being ridiculous. I'm just going to need to go home and eat. And I just, perfect transition right to being annoyed and mad at you. He's kidding. Okay. No, but I'm in great spirits. Good. I'm glad you ate. So Harrison did just do a fast. Hold on. Let's jump into this. Ready? Welcome back to another episode of Two Parents in a Podcast. we have a good episode today um good not great great we have no we have a great episode today can i make a prediction yes i think this is like gonna be our first just like end-to-end awesome episode post rocky i feel like every episode since he's come has had like some form of interruption like either just me on or you know whatever something someone needing to leave like they've all been cut in some way like this now we're gonna be back to it knock on wood is right Jules it's no no I'm making prediction where I always say emancipating but that's not the right word manifesting oh I was like manifesting what does emancipating mean like when you emancipate from your parents I don't know that's like the common thing when if you're under 18 you can emancipate from your parents it's like a divorce from your parents and you have to file that in the court yeah yeah you meant manifest one thing Bubba is not allowed to do is emancipate from her parents.
3:53Oh my goodness. She has to live at home forever. Does that just make your heart? I had a dream, but I can't recall. I'm having a lot of dreams lately. Okay. I had something to do with, like, the different cultures, and our different cultures, it's much more than what? I got to stop you. Okay. Sydney and I had a, we had a rule in high school. Yeah. But I don't care about your dream. I know that's mean. Great rule. Great rule. Great rule. But it's not because you're telling me something that wasn't real. It's a great rule. And I don't care because I didn't see it. It's a great rule. It's a great rule.
4:28So just no dreams. Even if there's an interesting learning about how different cultures interact with living with their parents. In some cultures, it's much more normal. In the U.S. culture, moving out, very different than per se how it works in Italy or India. But say you write a book on it. You'll have my attention more. No, it's a great rule. I'm fully supportive of it. Because people are like, I had a dream that you slipped in. It's like, I didn't slip and fall. So like, you know. You know I had a dream about a tornado in Oklahoma. Actually? Yeah, and then we found shelter at a Mexican restaurant.
5:00But you don't want to hear about that dream, so it's fine. I don't want to hear about that dream. We're at a softball game. Because it's not real. Softball game? Yeah. What? I have no idea. It was a summer. We were all there. It was great. That's so funny. Okay. And then a tornado hit. This episode today's okay. First of all you guys if you're listening, please Subscribe like this video send it to a friend, but definitely subscribe Okay, there's the power in the subscription Harrison's gonna put his phone up which is very exciting for everybody involved I can't wait for him to put that up and not touch it again.
5:31It's up. There you go He's been doing that lately dad joke. He puts his phone actually up in the air. Okay, we have Some pop culture. We have some in the comments. We have some baby stuff like it's just a very well rounded episode things we dm'd so let's just pop into it um harrison did the most dad thing towards me via text the yesterday what was it instead of saying what's up he said catch up no no no no no this is whoa whoa whoa big unlock big unlock did he spell it catch this is the worst that cats up This is the worst autocorrect that's ever existed. My iPhone autocorrects What's up? W-A-T-S-U-P to C-A-T-S-U-P.
6:14It is a consistent autocorrect. Well, it's ketchup, but isn't that like the British? I assumed it was the Canadian way to do ketchup. This happens to me all the time. All the time. I can't believe it's never happened before. It's not a dad joke. You don't even need to be saying, What's up, W-A-T-S-U-P? I did a dad joke today. You can tell me if it's funny. Please tell me if it's funny. when I left the neighbors this is funny they gave me a coffee at the house they gave me coffee every day I Venmo'd her 25 cents for the coffee she screenshotted it she thought it was funny that's a good dad joke that's just like a funny that's just funny because we're so bad at well the background is we've never ever Venmo'd the neighbors and we did our first ever Venmo around the Labor Day barbecue we've never Venmo'd each other We did our first ever Venmo around the Memorial Day barbecue.
7:05And we've never been much, I think. And so after we did that, I was like, all right, we're now Venmo. We're now Venmo relationship. And boom, 25 cents later. Yeah, you're just splitting everything with them. You know, one area where I actually have been feeling some not bad with them is like, so for, I don't even think we've talked about this, but the nanny share has been full time at their house right now. because they did this when they had their second kid. We had a full time at our house and now we're having a full time at their house because you're just like a newborn land and you don't want like the kids running around.
7:39So we, anyways, Tate's been going over to their house every day. And it's like, then they're buying double diapers and the big thing is double food. So it's a great call out. What I will say hilariously is we have not edited our food order for Bubba and Winnie not being there. so like last week we had four cartons of berries yeah a blueberries that are just like accumulated so um we we probably should adjust the food ordering number one and number two like yeah but i think they're obviously giving more right now but i think we have a very nice give and take relationship with them the same way like we the roles were reversed six months ago and you didn't even think about it yeah no i didn't even think about it you're right we just i think they did a month at our house we're on week six i'm gonna venmo her for bananas tomorrow for bubbers bananas okay that's really funny just been over every day like three dollars yeah well i'm gonna do very specific amounts three dollars and 64 cents a dollar eight yeah go go to the store and see how much bananas are um okay so let's well you missed last week's episode because or monday's episode we don't want to talk about my past no one cares i care what happened with it why'd you do it and why did it have to become my problem and I had to eat dinner by myself.
8:58That was the biggest downfall of the fast. I was just sitting at Clark's. We had like a fun Wednesday. We took the kid and I'm just eating a crab cake alone. Very underwhelming moment. This is very valid. But they, hold on, talk about the cutesy that happened at Clark's. At Clark's, Harrison's talked about how they serve sourdough bread and it's free, it's lovely. They brought out the bread at the table next to us and Bubber knows the word bread. She was like, bread, bread, bread. And she walked over to their table and I was like, you can't have their bread. They tried to snatch their bread. But then luckily they put it right down at ours after.
9:28Okay, talk to us about your fast. Why did you do it? I had a meeting with a longevity doctor. Oh my God. And he told me that once a quarter I should be doing a 36-hour fast. And it's just a great time for your body rather than focusing on digesting food. It focuses on essentially just a cleanup. And let me ask you this. Repairing cells. Oh, because you're - Getting your insulin levels on track. So when you're eating, your cells are too busy processing food and they're not repairing. Yeah, your system is focused on digestion. And this allows your system to focus on repair. And do you check this when somebody tells you?
10:05What do you mean? Well, do you just take it for face value that this man said it? Or do you go back and say, let me get a second opinion? Well, I did the function, the lab tests. And I'm about to do my second function lab tests. And so I'm doing this ahead of the second function lab test. And so we'll be able to actually see what are the markers that improved and did the fasting help in any way. Like the science on this stuff is very – there's not very much of it. But my mindset around it is like so I do this a couple times a year and if it works, great. If it doesn't, it's a bit of a mental challenge.
10:46But I don't know. It was fine. Hopefully I'll do it once a quarter. well there's also like we had a big three days in a row saturday sunday monday through we had a lot of burgers a lot of dogs and so it there was also that component of it like let's get back on track well i also think there's a lot of data around fasting being good being good for certain people like i was not a candidate i used to try to fast until noon like five six years ago like that just didn't like the traditional intermittent fasting thank you for that word intermittent fast it did not work for me yeah I I hated it I I tried it I probably did it for you know upwards of six months and it was a really bad experience I I put way too much focus on food and my eating schedule and it just was like not where I thought my energy should be it's also just like no fun but what I am down for is like what I want to do right now is just live balanced okay but what i'm down for is you doing a 30 you can do a 36 day fast or 36 hour fast four times a year yeah fine but i think this is kind of a good transition to talk about optimization and like optimization anti-optimization culture um because wasn't there something on the subject list about it well we were talking about while you weren't here this can you wear an apple watch to a wedding okay um and it's like a lot of the response is like i i want to count my steps and like what is it your count your steps don't count if you're not wearing your apple watch you can't wear not wear your apple watch for six hours and i was talking to one of my friends we're like we're we're just all way too obsessed with optimization chill out for a sec jules i totally agree if when we have to be able to take our watch off for a saturday night and not count those steps the only The only exception, I think, medical exception.
12:36If you need your heart rate for medical reasons. I saw a lot of that in the comments. So to those people, you should do what's best for your health. Well, and 100%. I love this talking point because I do think we've overswung on the optimization side of things. And I say that ironically as someone who just did a 36-hour fast. But there was a video going around one of those podcasters whose name I'm forgetting. Steven Bartlett. Thank you, Steven Bartlett. and he talked about how he like had two glasses of wine and it took him three days to recover and i think people are just like come on man like you you you've in this way of living you've taken a lot of the fun out of the life and enjoying a lot of these finer things and for some people that's glass of wine for other people it's it's other things so this lands for me um i feel like I'm getting rambly right now.
13:30No, but I just think just whatever it is, like have your two glasses of wine, have your slice of cake. Like we've just got to live in the middle. So there was a video I saw. Oh, and I sent it to us. I'm going to try to remember it, but it was around dry January or something. And this guy was like, no, hard 75. He was like, you know, instead of hard 75 I'm just going to do middle 365 I'm just going to live in the middle for 365 days a year and just keep rolling with that I'm not going to do too high I'm not going to go too low I'm not going to go do lines of cocaine in the bathroom but I'm also not going to run a marathon every week so I'm just going to live in the middle but here's here's um one I love that I love that um outlook two this reminds me of a really interesting study I saw on like us over indexing on data and taking the attention away from like the power of mindset.
14:25And it looked at, it was a sleep study. And they gave people sleep scores, but they made them up. Okay, so for half the group, they said you slept good. And for half the group, they said you slept bad. And for the group that they said slept good, regardless of what happened, they reported having a productive day. And then vice versa. So the group that they said, so everyone sleeps the same. Yep. Half the people they say you had a good sleep, half the people they said had a bad sleep. The bad sleep people reported having an unproductive day. Obviously, over time, this catches up to you. But I think the mindset being a lot of this is within your control.
15:13There's no denying sleep is important. Well, I was just going to say with the two glasses of wine thing, you're giving it the power to ruin your day for three days. days correct like two glasses of wine I don't drink in two glasses of wine isn't gonna ruin my day for three days like you know like you give it the power to do that if you're so hyper focused on like the negative parts of of anything exactly and when you look at a lot of these blue zones like and a lot of these places that do have have um you know peak uh peak longevity wine is a part of the culture wine at lunch they have they have a lot of people have lunch and dinner and that's because when you look at at the drivers of longevity happiness community purpose these are all really important pieces of it and so yes i agree the um the optimization culture has taken the fun out of life and fun's very important so well i want to say this on the sleep thing really quickly if this is why i don't want to know my sleep score i got the ice is killing us all i think honey is there a way i'm just doing like this this spin to make sure it's mixed i'm sorry do you think we could do no more spins or is that going to be something we need to get on board for you want to fast right now no i'm getting irritable vibes no no i'm i'm getting but i'm genuinely asking me some lips no i'm just oh i love you i'm just genuinely asking i'll get getting some irritable vibes no no i'm genuinely asking you is it something we should expect throughout the duration because if it's if it's getting me a little i'm like oh he's doing it again i can't magic for the listener.
16:40Well, I'm doing it for the ASMRs. We can trigger warning. Don't not do it again. Yeah, don't. Just ease into it over there. I'm going to put trigger warning on the episode. Maybe we can just start doing hot coffees for you. Hold on. I want to say this on the sleep thing. I'm not going to lose my train of thought. If I... Put your phone up. I know to the listener I might sound irritated. I just have a couple things. Ice phones. Just a couple things. We did put a clip up where you were looking at your phone and people called it out, so. Thank you to the people. I give permission. It's secondhand smoke.
17:10Who wants to talk to themselves? No, valid. I think that being on the phone is secondhand smoke. I don't look at my phone. I think maybe you should give your phone to pee. I agree. The construction person called. But what are you going to do, answer it? Yeah, we got to call him. No. He's at the house. Sorry, guys. We're building a pool. Speaker phone. If you're a new parent, you know stress just kind of becomes the baseline. Between night wakings and the mental load, your nervous system will just be running on overdrive. And here's something I learned recently. Our bodies burn through magnesium faster than we can replace it, especially during stressful seasons.
17:44And magnesium is exactly what our nervous system needs to wind down. That's why I started adding magnesium breakthrough by bioptimizers to my nightly routine. What I love is that it's not just one type of magnesium. It's a blend of seven different forms because magnesium touches everything, how your body handles stress, how you relax and unwind and how restful your sleep is. For me, it becomes the thing that helps me actually come and wind down after a full day. And the best part, BuyOptimizers offers a 365-day, no-questions-asked money-back guarantee. It's like being at dinner and I'm in the middle of a sentence and you pick up your phone.
19:01I'm sorry. Which you wouldn't do. I'm sorry. It's okay. So on the sleep score thing for the third time, if I slept bad, I thought, but I had a sleep score of like 99, I would convince myself I had energy all day and I'd be like, you're fine. You slept really good. Similar to if I thought I slept good, but I checked my sleep score and it's like 50. I would let it ruin my day. The study is supportive of that. Yeah, I'm just saying I get how it's mental. So also that goes to, I think similar, it's so funny, this isn't the things we DMed, but this is somewhere in the episode where we're talking about how in front of kids, if you say like they're so, oh, she's just shy.
19:44She starts to think, oh, I'm shy. I read that somewhere. Like if you say in front of your daughter, oh, she's so shy, then she starts thinking I'm shy. What? I was going to tie into where that all came up, but keep going. Well, guess what I read this morning? I'd love to hear what you read this morning because I'm not irritable. So instead of saying, Tate, say hi to Jules because then they freeze and their brains overload. We say hi to Jules. We go, hi, Jules. And then they go, hi, Jules. This makes so much sense because I've noticed when I do that, Barbara freezes up. And like when we walk by...
20:22I have a couple examples of this I need to pull up. When we walk by Kiki's house, she's always going to go, Kiki, Kiki, Kiki. But if I go, if Kiki's outside and I go say hi, boom. Exactly. It's a great call out. Okay. So here's what it says that I think is very interesting. Okay. So before age three, it says logic does not work. Kids throw the toy and then you explain to them, don't throw the toy. Yep. They don't get that. Yep. But if you show the toy and then you show yourself setting it down in the box, they can understand that, right? So then it says, which I love this. Okay, so you have to model it instead.
21:02So you say, let's clean up the toys. They don't get that. But you start cleaning up the toys and then you say, join in with me. They do understand that. So instead of go say hi to Kiki, hi, Kiki, I'll say hi for us. Then she gets it. You need to eat. They don't understand that. But if we start eating, they understand that. Yeah. No, it makes a lot of sense that we see a reality. One of like the best examples of this is like Bubba loves, she loves water. She loves, also loves to, so she loves pouring water from cup A to cup B. It's a huge thing. Yeah, massive. And sometimes we'll just take the water and we'll pour it on the floor.
21:40Her, not us. Not me. A lot of water on the floor in our house. and like we'd always normally Alex I would just go and clean it and now she really understands like when she she saws clean the water so much that now when she pours a lot on the floor if like I give her a paper towel she knows to go and clean it up yeah because she's watched us she watched us do it so many times but but if we said take go clean that up she doesn't know She doesn't know what that is. But the biggest one for me is the high. Yep. Yep. No, I agree. So she walked outside the other day and we had four or five construction workers out there.
22:19And all on her own, she said hi to all of them. She like stops and says hi to all of them. And do you know who else does that? Both of us. Yeah. So that's where she sees it. But if we said, take, go say hi to all the construction workers, she'd be confused. So I just found that to be very interesting. and I don't know why I looped it in at the beginning, but I did. So model it. What I learned, things I learned, model it, don't explain it because logic cannot work before age of three. Very good. And it's not that they're ignoring you, it's just that their brains are learning differently. And to tie a bow in optimization culture, the take of two random parents is we want to play optimization culture down the middle.
22:59Don't want to swing too high. Don't want to swing too far, sorry, on over-optimizing, but also don't want to swing too far on the opposite side where all we're doing all day is eating junk food, boozing, and not working out. No, we have to live in the mail. Our take that no one asked for. Well, the last thing I'm going to take it back now to show them, don't tell them. My one code I cannot crack is this street. Street safety. I think we need to be better. Show, don't tell. But last night, Harrison, on our walk, where did you and I walk? Where do we always walk? Down the middle of the street. Down the middle of the street.
23:36That's why it's very confusing. And people are like, why are you in the middle of the street? Our street is not a through street. When you walk down the middle, you get to say hi to all the neighbors on both sides. Everyone's always outside. So it's very safe. But then we're like, hey, Bubba, don't go in the street. And it's like, what? That's literally, it's us. This one is us. This one is us. Yeah. She actually pauses before she goes in the street. She is 90 % on the sidewalk. The problem is the 10 % when she just does. Then we have the Memorial Day party in the street. And it would be confusing that she can be in the street on your street, but not in the street on other streets.
24:11So it's probably best to zero in the street. That's what we're doing. Zero in the street. And I think a big pause. Yes, before we go. We gotta do a big pause. But we also, we need to like block out 30 minutes of street explaining time. Street showing time. Yes, street showing time. and we need to go outside and we need to practice not getting in the street, which is going to be so confusing to her because we live so much in the street. So I don't know. I don't know. Here's the other thing that I read that somebody said was just like, just watch her. You have to be with her 24-7 until she can understand the street.
24:46So that's the other thing. All right. Fasting we did. Okay. What did you miss last week? There's one thing I would like to report to you. Please. because I've never I haven't talked to you about it but I've talked to the podcast about it so I said I will let our kids stay up past their bedtime but they have to choose one of two options they have to run to be outside running or reading to which Jules replied which was very good those are two really good things running and reading so to use them as a punishment almost is counterintuitive which I totally agree so I want to know what your take on this is I actually think you just combined two things which is what we did on the clip which is what it's why people are confused in the comments okay I'm confused too because so you said you had seen this video where where that was like a bedtime technique right and separately you said you've seen people like giving laps to their kids as punishment yes in like the reading and the running at bedtime I don't think that that was punishment I think that was like just make sure you're doing something productive yeah make sure you're doing something productive okay okay those aren't punish like the idea isn't a because ever like everyone's saying like this yeah I think the way that we me and Pete cliffed it was a little confusing but it was also the conversation that we had which was like two separate conversations combined into one and I think both things are true running and reading should never be seen as punishment because they're two good things.
26:20I agree with that. And then the nighttime thing is completely separate. It's very different. Wait, pause. These are two good clips. I'm going to take it again really quick. Let's just keep it going. Okay, let me ask you this again then. Okay. So I'm going to break them down and I'm going to get your take on them. Okay. So this listener can also divide them in their brain. Number one, what do you think about this? If your kid wants to stay up late, past their bedtime, fine, but you give them two options. Number one, you can be running or you can be reading and you can pick one of the two things and you can do it until you get tired.
26:51Thoughts? I think that you just want to use a reasonable judgment with extending the bedtime. And it's very much like if you're having a nice productive time and you flex your bedtime up 15 to 30 minutes, like why is that the end of the world?
27:15I don't know I wish I had a good take on this I love it One thing I saw somebody say is my son's always reading Whenever he's not going If he's not going to go to bed at 8 And he's going to stay up until 9.30 fine he has to read a book And then he was reading a couple grades above his reading level Which I thought was a really cool thing Like he loves to read and if he wants to stay up late Fine why do you have to go to bed at a certain time You know I think that's kind of the thing okay well why do they have to go to bed at eight well i'm just yeah i it's hard for me to answer this because like i can only look at it from the lens of uh you know a kid under two and i can't look at it from the lens of a four-year-old where i think this question's just more appropriate no i think they're like eight years old or eight years old well bubber doesn't get these options because bubber we couldn't tell bubber to run or read because she wouldn't she'd be no i think that the one comment that i found interesting on our clip was that rule it's rules are not negotiation so like is bedtime a rule in your house or is bedtime not a rule in your house is maybe like okay don't have conditions for which bedtime is not a rule like don't be so um strict on bedtime and have these two certain conditions that they can do otherwise if bedtime is bedtime okay this That was a lot of words.
28:33This is very good, Jules. So one thing we've been saying lately is hold the line. And the reason you hold the line is because when your kids get to around, they say two, two and a half, three, you reach this fork in the road where they will challenge you to see if when you said put that cup on the counter, if you meant it or if they could F with you and not put the cup on the counter, right? So there's certain things where we'll be like, if she takes her pacifier out of the bed and sucks on it, we don't care. Or does the pacifier have to stay in the bed? and if we say your pacifier has to stay in the bed then we have to hold the line on that because what she's learning is there is flex here so what are the things like we're gonna hold the line and you can't go in the street right because it's a safety issue so one thing harrison and i talk a lot about it's like we don't want to we don't want to overuse no we don't want to hold the line on things that don't really matter i'm so glad you went there like we're like oh she's doing her passing we call it a cigarette we laugh about it right like she wants to pour the water on the ground, I don't really care.
29:30No one got hurt. She wants to run in the street. I care. Right? So there are certain things. She wants to hit. We care. We care. We take her hand and no hitting. So we have our things where we'll say to each other, you got to hold a line on that because we already started saying it. So I do think in this one, if bedtime is a rule, I agree. But if what Harrison and I's approach. I don't think bedtime is going to be like, here's what I'm envisioning. Okay. I'm envisioning that let's say their bedtime is 8 p.m. and it's a beautiful night out, and the kids are playing in the pool, and they're playing really nice.
30:06I don't think we're going to be the types of parents that say, it's 8 p.m. out of the pool. Well, we're not, because we already don't with Bubber. If we're having fun at the neighbors, we stay until 8.30. And I think that, but we're also, at that time, monitoring, all right, how is her behavior? Is she showing signs of tiredness? Or is she having a blast? Or is she having a blast? And I don't think we're going to be the type of parents that just unnecessarily end a great experience or fun because of an arbitrary time. So I think – But who knows? Yeah. Maybe we will. Maybe that's what I can say today.

30:41But once again, we're sitting here at 202 without the kids that – At that age. At that age. The other thing is this. I do think some kids thrive on structure. And Tate has – she lives a 70 % structured life, which I like. Because I think that that because there's a lot that talks about how when you have structure, kids know what to expect. For example, her bedtime routine, she knows she's putting rock like she's very comfortable and safe in her bedtime routine. And when we don't do the bedtime routine, that is when it takes the longest amount of time for her to settle. Yes. So what so there's there's structure.
31:17It's Jay Shetty. He always says structure is the foundation of spontaneity. so if she has 70 % structure I'm good with the 30 % of just like she doesn't have to go to bed right now so with that being said would I be down for bedtime being yeah bedtime is not going to be a rule most likely let's I mean we'll see when we get to this age but I would say most likely bedtime is not a rule in our house but there's a loose framework around it a loose framework around it and I do like can you stay up late every night no but if you are going to stay up late I do think we'll give you the option. You want to read?
31:51You want to go jog? And they're like, why don't you go jog with them? Or play in the pool. Then we're never going to bed. This pool's coming over budget. We need to use the pool every day. We're going to use the pool every day, but I just think that if we're running or we're reading, that's a really good healthy option to pick to replace sleeping, which is also really good for you. If we give them the option of eating candy or swimming, they're going to be like, yeah. Like we do have to give them. Of course. But swimming, I mean, candy was a bad example. You guys know that I gave my dad StoryWorth last Christmas.
32:26And I got to say, I've got a great Father's Day gift for you. Because here's the thing. Most Father's Day gifts end up in the drawer. And StoryWorth doesn't. It gives your dad a year-long experience and gives your family a book full of stories he'd probably never think to tell on his own. So here's how it works. Each week, StoryWorth sends him a question about his life. He responds however he wants, writing back over email or web or a voice recording or new this year, a guided phone call, which I love. There's no apps. There's no logins or a tech castle. It meets him where he is so he can focus on the joy of remembering and reflecting.
33:01You can even help pick the questions you choose from pre-written ones. You can write your own or you can let StoryWorth create personalized questions based on his life. So it's something like this, like tell us a story about your favorite meal your mom made whenever you were growing up. Then StoryWorth compiles everything, his words, his photos, his life into a beautiful hardcover book. Families have used StoryWorth to create over a million books and more than 50 ,000 five-star reviews agree that it will be a treasure your family will love. And new this year, a StoryWorth unlimited plan. Buy it once and you can give StoryWorth memoirs to friends and family all year.
33:39plus their new feature and multiple full-color book copies. So this year, give dad a gift that captures who he really is before the stories get harder to remember. Father's Day is Sunday, June 21st, so order right now and save up to$20 at storyworth.com slash to parents. Save up to$20 at storyworth.com slash to parents. Storyworth.com slash to parents. Okay, so that was the thing you had missed that I thought was interesting. Now, I guess the second part of that is what do you think about this? How do I want to word this? Punishing your kid with jogging or sprints or reading or things that are viewed as a good thing, but you're delivering them as punishment.
34:25I don't know enough about punishment, and I feel like getting punishment right is one of the most critical components of parenting. And so this is an area that I want to get very smart on. But yes, like intuitively, it doesn't make sense to punish your kid with something that should be perceived as or something that's healthy. I think punishment is something that's been the most interesting about parenting to me. Right. Because you there's all these times where you think you say no, but then you learn no is just confusing to them. And so you have to model the behavior. And so I think that with this punishment being timeout, that's a bad example.
35:04but punishment meaning punishment being you lose your toy makes a lot more sense to me than punishment means you need to go running because running could be something that's really fun yeah so i agree with you on this like we're exploring pros and cons of punishment but i'm with you on i don't like punishment equating to reading or running because reading and running are things i want to be fun yeah i'd love to get a punishing expert on if that exists because we would never be like oh you're in trouble let's go swim yeah so why would we be like oh you're in trouble let's go it would be like oh you're in trouble you lose your toy yep maybe but yeah we just like everything with this learning i think we learn as we i think we i think harris and i are the kind that learn in the phase of parenting that we're in whereas with rocky we're lucky because we've done the phases ahead of him with tate and so i think that's a good a good parlay into a question that i want to keep revisiting okay okay and we talked about it before he was born and now to bring it back in what is hard been harder for you the transition from zero to one kid or the transition from one to two kids so i was gonna say one to two that was my answer yeah and i was like one to two is harder because you have no downtime and your brain is divided between a toddler like you're and then you go into newborn land but you're not fully in the newborn land and then you go back to the toddler land right so it's a constant loop however taking a step back and remembering what zero to one was actually like for me, I think because of the postpartum depression and anxiety and all the new happening and I didn't realize how hard birth would be in the recovery, then I have to say zero to one was harder for me.
36:45And the change in lifestyle. The change in lifestyle. Totally. So I always thought it was one to two, but it's zero to one. What's the answer for you? Yeah, I think zero to one was way harder than one to do. And I'm curious to see how that changes over time. I think what comes to mind for me, and I have no idea if this makes any sense, is your plate is a lot more full with two kids versus one kid, but you know how to eat the food much better. Does that make any sense? Yeah. That sounds ridiculous. You know how to eat the food and you've picked what was on your plate. Like, we knew what we were getting into with another baby.
37:25Yeah. We know that he needs to sleep, eat, and then have a wake window we're more busy but we know what we're doing a lot more a lot more i don't know if i like how that that's all coming out but yeah one to two your life sorry zero to one there's a complete rearrangement in your life one to two um you're just building off of that rearrangement yeah your life is already rearranged you're just adding another component Yeah, another. But I think there's a massive, massive, massive caveat. Okay. And two caveats that I need to bring up. The first that we've seen with our friends is so much of this is out of your control.
38:06And it comes down to, is your second baby a good eater and a good sleeper? Yeah. Because we've been very lucky with Rocky where he is a good eater and he is a good sleeper. And also, we do have help. Right. And that's really important. or an important kind of caveat to share. And I say assuming that the eating and the sleeping is just completely out of your control. If you have a good eater and you have a good sleeper or an easy eater and an easy sleeper, I think transition is much easier once to do than zero to one. And I do want to talk about this because I made a video yesterday and I got so many DMs about it, about him, like his stomach hurting when he eats.
38:53Okay. And I, I feel like I need to flush this out on the podcast. So what was happening is I'm primarily, I would say 80 % pumping and giving him a bottle that way. And, but all the milk he's been having right now has been breast milk. We did give him formula yesterday, but I'll talk about that. So I noticed some bottles he drinks fine. What? sorry Jules is on her phone I don't know why I checked my phone but someone just sent someone that I haven't talked to in like five years sent me a clip and said I think this is it's driving me crazy every time I see this on my free this podcast on my free page is this your voice?
39:35Oh wow It made me laugh Sorry But good call by them it is your voice Yeah it is It's me That would be like wild if I heard somebody's voice from like five years ago I was like I think I know this is them Okay Okay, so I was talking about how the breast milk is affecting him. Sometimes he'll drink a bottle and he's completely fine and he drinks it and then he goes to sleep. Sometimes he drinks a bottle and I feel like his stomach hurts. So then I was like, okay, is it something I'm eating? But I automatically don't eat dairy and I don't eat a ton of gluten. In fact, I would say I eat, if I eat gluten, it's at dinner.
40:08And then I should be able to measure that. Like gluten. Okay, so basically I don't eat gluten. I mean, I do sometimes, but I've measured it to know that it's not the bottle. So then everyone's telling me, well, it could be soy. And soy isn't a lot of things, so you've got to cut soy. I'm like, well, who has the time to cut soy? Like, how do I figure out if I get – sometimes soy can be baked into the salmon. Like, doesn't it be like such a daunting task? Okay, do you see what I'm saying here? I do see what you're saying. And I think that – It could be coffee, somebody says. Oh, it's definitely the nut milk.
40:44I'm like, oh my gosh, what do I do? Just not eat? So yesterday we were talking about this with the lady who has been helping us with Rocky. And she helped with a friend of ours' kids as well. And she said, and that other kid really struggled eating. And she was really on top of it and trying to help in any way possible. And they tried a whole variety of things. And so yesterday, when we asked her about this, her view on it was like the amount that Rocky is throwing up and his post-digestion kind of like uncomfort is what she sees with most babies. She called it normal. Yeah, he's not throwing up.
41:30He spits up. Spits up. Sorry. But I do agree. Like, Tate was never uncomfortable after a bottle. So this was very foreign to me. So I was like, oh, my gosh, his stomach hurts so bad. And his stomach does hurt for a second. And then he has to get out his little toots or he spits up a little. And it's just like a very normal baby digestion track, which, by the way, I learned adjusts around six weeks. So we're just at that point. And I think that you're just you're being like an amazing, caring mom. And so you're putting an incredible amount of thought and effort into into like what you're eating.
42:06And I just think on the other side, it's like what you spoke to a lot of this is is natural. And I think a really important thing to also remember about Bubber is it would take her like 45 minutes to drink a bottle. Right. She was the slowest drinker in the world. And so then on the back end of it, like her not having that discomfort and her not her not. What's it called? Spitting up. Spitting up. It also makes more sense because Rocky just he he hops it down the way I have down my Frank's iced coffees. And I have a friend who, I think when you're a mom, you have a couple people that you're like, I will really take that advice.
42:42They kind of parent the same way as me. They think the same way as me. And I have this friend. She's in Oklahoma City, and she texted me. She's like, all right, she's got three kids. And it's funny. She said, I think to a certain extent it's just baby's digestion tracks. I think you can track what you're eating. I think you can try formula. I think you can try all these different things, Alex. At the end of the day, I've had three kids that did the same thing with all three, and they all digested bottles differently. And I think that's what it comes down to. I think we've got a digestion track here.
43:11I just want him to be comfortable. So I try him on his stomach, and he gets comfortable sometimes. I try him, you know, standing up, and it's just we've got a classic baby. But you're doing a great job. Like, I watch just how much, like, thought and care you're giving to him, and it's amazing. But do you know what else? Okay, thank you. but I am thinking now about this friend that texted me. She's the one that told, I think about all the things she's ever texted me and I admire that she chooses her texts sparingly. She doesn't offer advice all the time but when she does, I'm thinking of all the pieces that she's given me.
43:46I've taken it every time. She's the epitome of a friend of when she talks, you listen. Yes, and I bet a lot of moms have this of there are certain moms that are ahead of me in the game. Her kids are all older than ours but I really admire the way she parents and I see the finished product to a certain extent. You know, her oldest is four. And I'm like, yeah, I want that advice. Thank you. It's also really funny because on the other end, you have had people that, there's people that you interact or we interact with who just like have a thought and a view on everything to do with parenting. And at that point, it's just like, it loses its power.
44:25Totally. And I don't think we have... i don't have any friends like that which is nice no but there's people that you just you people you run into and you're just like okay well that was like crazy and i think all parents deal with that really like that was crazy not crazy but you know i wasn't asking for advice i was just more so experience sharing take the question did you ask because i didn't right and then she but this this i love my mom friends so much because they're so good at stepping in whenever i need it and this girl she's just perfect at it i love my blue light glasses from zinni i genuinely feel like they help me sleep better and with two kids sleep is everything and parents you'll know what I mean I'll take any edge I can get even in 2026 replacing glasses feels like a whole production so most of us just live with it but here's the thing with Zenni Optical they fixed all of that Zenni is an online eyewear shop and it has prescription glasses sunglasses blue light lenses starting at under$30 you go to zenni.com you pick a frame you upload your prescription and they ship right to your door there's no appointment there's no store there's no upsell at the counter and at that price something kind of just shifts you stop asking do I really need new glasses and you start saying why wouldn't I just get them get the one for work get a fun pair get a pair that only matches one outfit with over 150 ,000 five-star reviews and a virtual try-on tool you can see exactly how a frame looks before you commit if your glasses are overdue for a refresh now is the time go to zinni.com slash podcast and use code podcast 15 for 15 % off your first order the styles sell out so don't sit on it that's z-e-n-n-i.com slash podcast promo code podcast 15.
46:04um okay let's see how you doing how you feeling today i feel good it's funny i have these hot flashes and it's hormonal but it's just they're so i get so hot that i start like sweating you look very nice thank you your hair looks phenomenal you do something different i just got it touched up oh what a great touch up it was do you know do you actually if i didn't tell you i was getting my hair touched up would you notice the way to do this is next time not tell you get your hair done don't tell me and the chance of noticing is zero a hundred percent because julia has access to your calendar and she's going to text me and she's going to say alex is getting her hair done make sure that you're waiting at home with flowers and say oh Oh my God, you look so beautiful.
46:50No, I, the, the way that, so I was thinking about this yesterday. Do you have any beauty appointments as a guy or any appointments in general besides a golf game where you're gone for four hours? Cause like girls, we get our hair done, especially if you're blonde or if you're bylaws or whatever you are, I'm gone for four hours of the day and I, you can't do like, you can't get up, you can't walk around. No, 30 minute haircut. I'm in a haircut pickle right now. You don't get facials. I'm in a haircut pickle. You don't get manicures. You just golf, I guess. Yeah, we rarely golf. Yeah, there's no equivalent of the hair.
47:30I'm due for a round. I'll tell you that. Of golf? Yeah. Yeah. Okay. All right, let's move to the summer house reunion. Well, we want to talk about how date night's officially back on the table, which was wild of you to put that on here. and then it's Thursday and we're not going on a date. Well,
47:54who's to say we're not going on a date? Well, we're not. We're going to swim lessons and then we're going to eat Mexican food with everyone from swim. So it's not very, that's not a date. Is that a date? Is a group date a date? Well, the kids are going to be there, so it's not a date. Yes, it's so, Jules. It's not a date. I won't talk to Harrison for more than one sentence. We'll be chasing. how many days are there in a week? seven so just because date night doesn't happen tonight doesn't mean it's not going to happen what night is it happening? well not Saturday why? because she told you last week Saturday it's not her preferred date night Jules thank you for listening Harrison's like right right right no I remember that what's my preferred date night?
48:37Thursday it's also my preferred date night he's just remembering now no no no it's my preferred date night too you forgot and tell this about it is like the best date night Oh, I love a Thursday. I have a surprise for you. So sit tight. Okay. Sit tight. I will. I'll sit tight. You can check me on it on our next recording. Monday. All right. So we kind of did the six weeks in. We did it for Rocky, basically. I do think one thing on Tate is her communication. She's had a leap, which is really cute. So the other day, what did she do with her plate? yeah so i was um i was making this chicken dish in uh in the dutch oven and i was standing there and i was like tasting it to see if it was done and she like saw me tasting chicken to see if it was done agreed like if it wasn't ew well it's a good point from a flavor profiler's perspective It was cooked.
49:37Okay. Sorry. Just seeing if it's still raw. It's this. So just for some context, I wish I remembered the name of this. But they send you these frozen. Is this a gift from Libby? Yes. Yes. It's a great. Is it what you said yesterday? I don't know the name. It's such a good gift. It's such a good gift. So basically she sent us like six or seven of these frozen meals. but what they are is it's like meat seasoned with like it's it's finished meals that are frozen and so all you do is slow cook them in a dutch oven for like three to five hours yeah they're amazing they're phenomenal and so i was just testing it to be like all right do i need to add anything um like yada yada yada got it just to get it right like i shredded it so basically it was a chicken dish burrito bowl i shredded it yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah bubber sees all this happening goes into her drawer gets her plate walks up to me he's like food food food food food and harrison at first was kind of just looking at it goes oh my gosh she wants food it was try it it was just like the communication was unbelievable but this is so but this is why and you guys in the comments were saying that Tate is a Virgo.
51:00So of course she's like this. Of course, if I wanted food, guess what I would do? Just walk over and eat it out of the thing. But she takes you her plate and she's like, food. That's the key to it. That was the key to it for me. I couldn't believe she got her plate. And I don't know what a Virgo means, but I do believe it means organized or what are Virgo traits? Maybe knows what she wants. Yeah, well, she does know what she wants. Everyone's just saying she's eldest daughter Virgo. Of course she's like this. this is the cutest thing we have an eldest daughter virgo on our hands Harrison I couldn't believe when she got that freaking plate eldest daughter virgo traits I don't know what they are but apparently like here's an example of our eldest daughter virgo she knows that the speaker plays music so she goes over to it she says bailar which means dance in Spanish she wants to bailar so we turn on a song she has one song that she loves right out of the gates so we play that for her but she only likes the beginning of the song so she'll turn off the speaker once the beginning of the song is gone.
51:54Then she'll turn it back on so we start the song over again. And it's that, it's Friday, that song. So she listens to it. Then we'll play another song. And she's like, no, I don't like that song. And she goes like this. She wants us to change the song. Because she sees us. That's how we change the song on the phone. So what we're going to do for her is Twinkle Twinkle Little Star is the only song she can tell us she wants because this is the symbol. Very different. Not this, this. When she points up, she wants Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. So I was saying to Harrison, let's give her songs. and let's give her dance moves to them so she can sign to us that she wants that song.
52:27I think this is one of those things that, love it in theory, the reality of execution, is going to be very, very tough to implement. No, the Kami Nando song. She knows to do the little pitter-patter steps. We actually have two signs. She does know that, the pitter-patter steps. So I do think that we can do this, but she's very, oh my gosh, eldest daughter Virgo. I'm going to have to really study what that means. That's way out of my, I'm not very, the people will tell us okay guys what is an eldest daughter Virgo please explain it to me um okay guys okay so in the comments you have to do this you tell me to say the words well no you you are gonna have to read them because he can't influence oh right right I'll read them so so Kate from Edmond Oklahoma sent me she actually sent me a voice note so I could hear how she pronounced them but she sent me a list of words to make Alex pronounced to see if she says I'm funny or not.
53:21Okay. After the whole crown, crayon situation. Okay. So pronunciation from an Oklahoma girl on certain words. Ready? Let's go. Sherbert. Sherbert. Sherbert. Oil. Oil. Oil. Honorary. Honorary. Finance. I'm surprised you didn't say finance. Finance. Finance. Finance. Yeah. Coupon. Coupon. Coupon. What? Coupon. Coupon. Coupon. Coupon. Coupon. Coupon. Syrup. Not a Q. Coupon. Coup. Syrup. Correct. Syrup. Not syrup for you? Syrup. Okay. Well, he's Canadian. So that's Bible. Syrup. Ornery. Honorary. No. Ornery. Like, oh, she's ornery today. Okay. This is the one that I had to ask her, and that's why both ornery and honorary.
54:21are on there because I couldn't tell which one she was saying. No, ornery. I don't know what that word is. Like, oh, you're being, why are you so ornery? No, no, ornery. Wait, now I don't know. Ornery. Ornery. It's someone that is bad-tempered, irritable. Harrison, if he did the fast. Irritable. Irritable. Oh, Alex, earlier in this episode. Use it in a sentence. Like ornery. Like you. What? Yeah, you don't know the word? No, I actually don't know it. And then, of course, we have lawyer. lawyer cement cement she said she says liar and cement she says lawyer she says how you say it i don't know how you say she says law your lawyer which is correct because it's the law and you guys are you guys know that okay so ornery was the one off this list and honorary and spent you say honorary correct what was the one oh finance no cube it was coupon sorry coupon You say coupon.
55:19Say the second to last one. Rural. Oh, there we go. The whole segment was worth it for that. What was it? Say that again. Rural. Rural. Rural. No, I can't say it after you say it. Rural. Out in those rural areas. We live in rural America, baby. Rural. Rural. Okay, love it. When I was pregnant with Tate, I found out pretty quickly that most prenatals are not created equal, but parallel past every test I threw at them, you guys. They are OBGYN founded, their third-party tested clean label project purity award winner, and I was sold. By my next pregnancy, I was chasing a toddler and could barely finish a hot cup of coffee, so my favorite thing became the daily packs.
55:59Everything you need in one pack, you grab it on the way out the door and done. Same brand I trusted the first time, made perfectly for busy moms. And here's what I really love. Parallel changes as your pregnancy changes. They are separate packs for trying to conceive, egg freezing, first, second, and third trimester and postpartum because here's the thing, your body changes so your prenatal should too. And in the first trimester, you get a premium prenatal plus B6 and ginger for nausea support. In the third, you get a premium prenatal plus probiotics to support mom's gut health and baby's microbiome.
56:33You literally switch packs as your body and your baby move into a new phase. So everything is held to the highest standard, OBGYN-founded, third-party tested, research-backed ingredients with no synthetics, colorants, or allergens. If you're pregnant, trying, or if you're postpartum, you need to check out Parallel. I cannot recommend it enough. I had them give me an exclusive code just for you guys. So new customers can use code 2PARENTS and get 20 % off your first order at ParallelHealth.com slash 2PARENTS. that's p-e-r-e-l-e-l health.com slash two parents all right so i i think that that went okay i was hoping for some more some more deviation i feel like rural may have saved us at the end there but thank you very much for the submission kate kate like i love kate for this from edmund where'd you go to high school kate kate's the same girl that would like to interview you guys love it i saw we saw your video kate oh i told her we'd chat okay that's adorable i think that's like really tell her to send us in some questions yeah i told her i would love to chat with her and get her perspective yeah because she's a non a non uh parent listener correct which we're very interested in that i think that's i'd love to better dive into the listener base because I think that the percentage of non-parents and the percentage of grandparents or parents with kids that are now past high school is very high.
58:08But I always ask them when they comment, I'll be like, what topics do you want to hear more of? They're like, no, nothing different. Like we just want more of, they see it kind of like maybe a reality show is what I'm gathering. They just like want to hear more about your life and that's what those non-parents and maybe the grandparents are interested in. I don't know. I thought it was interesting. Do you think they listen to Summer House? Watch Summer House, these people? Probably. Good transition. I'm wondering because I walked in to get my hair done yesterday and Katie, who does my hair, had a chat GBT.
58:39He was narrating what was going on between Wes and Amanda and it was so funny because he had a British accent and so he was like, she loved him first. And so we were listening to it and I was thinking, everyone is in on this Summer House drama, which we watched the reunion live, which I haven't done. I haven't watched something live. Well, I guess I watch like the Grammys and things. So let's, let's do, here's what we're going to do. We're not going to do a full recap for you because by this point, everyone's heard it recapped. We're going to take two things and we're going to talk about them.
59:11Okay, let's do it. So I think the first one is location sharing. Oh, great, great one. Amanda was doing a lot of things that were fishy. She had she wasn't answering Sierra's calls. She was saying she says verbatim in there. Sierra's like, where was I all summer? I was there for you. And she says, so was West. And it was like. What? That was random. Sierra was there for you, like. And she was really there for you. The other thing is like you turned off your location and she was like, yeah, that's like. So everyone was like, because you had something to hide. so the the topic that i would like to discuss here is location sharing have we discussed location sharing on the pod before yes when we started doing our location sharing i actually think we talked about it before that too about how you weren't a proponent of location well i it's i think it's more so i never shared my location before when you have a kid with somebody i think you must share your location with them because sometimes if you're not answering i'm like okay he's almost home we're good also now that i'm in the location sharing in my location sharing era i wish i started it earlier yeah but it does bring a very very valid question to the table so i think my view on it here is location sharing is binary you're either all in and you location share and your location is here 24 7 or you do not grant the access i totally agree and so i think for this case with Amanda and Kyle, the minute that that relationship is over, you end the location sharing.
1:00:54But as long as there's a, as long as you're working through things, that location needs to stay on. That location should stand at all times. But it's less about Amanda and Kyle for me because they had separated so that they should stop it's not weird if she stopped sharing her location with him what is weird is she stopped sharing it with amanda well she should i mean sierra but she should have stopped it she should have removed him cold turkey but i agree with that so that one to me is not as fishy i agree her stopping sharing it with sierra is like shows that she was knew she was doing something yeah totally and she wasn't she was turning off her location like what harrison's saying is that she should have just stopped sharing if she was doing something that she didn't want sierra to she should just not share her location with sierra anymore but like she's turning it on and off when she was going to to west house what i was going to say is like i think location sharing it's like the new moral compass like if i'm if i have to turn my location off to do something i should know that that's wrong right in my heart of heart there should maybe be a little notification that apple sends you like you just nailed you just nailed it jules and that's i think i was trying to get there i'm sorry can you repeat that because i love it well i just didn't realize she was I thought she was just unsharing it with those two because I thought she said my manager and them could still see where I was no like she was turning her location on and off got it there's unsharing versus like turning your location on and off to hide from certain people when you unshare people get a notification correct and when you share when you turn it on and off do they get a notification I don't think so I don't think so either that must be the caveat got so when you unsh if I unshared my location with you would say Alex stop unsharing her location with you stop sharing her location with you if I turned my uh location off you would not get a notification and every time I'm saying every time you turn that location off it's you should know in your heart of hearts you're doing something wrong yeah so Sierra was checking it at the right time because she was seeing her location was off because they caught it but if your location was off right now and I wasn't I wouldn't catch it like I wouldn't know I see what you're saying now.
1:03:01Okay, I wasn't clear on this. Okay. But do you want to address what Jules said? Because I think it's gold. About location sharing being the ultimate moral compass. Totally. I completely agree. And clearly this drives that point home. A hundred percent. I think the other thing that she was doing is she'd stopped answering serious calls. Because she knew she was doing something wrong. Like her actions were showing she knew. I want to say this. I felt most sorry for Kyle. I re-watched some stuff this morning. Like some clips. And like that man. I felt really sorry for him. I don't even know if we're, are we allowed to feel sorry for Kyle?
1:03:34I was asking one of my friends yesterday and she was like, I'm upset that all of this drama is happening because if it wasn't, we would all be sitting at the reunion talking about how bad Kyle is. And Andy said that. Oh, really? He said, Kyle, we thought for sure you were going to be in the hot seat tonight. You're not. And he's like, he said, it's a double-edged sword. It's great that I'm not, but I'm also sad that this is why I'm not. Here's a really unique dynamic about the Kyle situation is like, he was very vocal that he was bottoming out. Like he was very vocal that his world was falling apart.
1:04:12And so not to excuse his actions, but like he was having a very, very hard time and it was being documented on camera and he didn't get any credit from the friend group over it. And I think the reason why he didn't get any friend group over credit from the friend group over it was because like his actions in the past had hadn't been great. To my understanding. I've done some past episode watching it. Get up to speed. And. But Sierra before because Bravo did a great job editing this and I don't know if all watch what happens or reunions are like this. but they did them getting out of the car. They did them in the dressing room beforehand.
1:05:00And Sierra went up to him and she started crying and she was like, I didn't realize that you were saying that you were having such a hard time. I didn't realize how much you were actually having such a hard time. And she gave him a really big hug. Yeah. So they, they are acknowledging it now, but I do agree his, his words had lost the weight because of his actions. Because of his previous actions. But similar to that, you know, West also, his words don't carry much weight with this, group. His actions do, but his words don't. Parents, you know, anything that makes life easier on us and the baby is a win.
1:05:33And that is why I seriously love Magnetic Me. Tate and Rocky are both in Magnetic Me. And honestly, I'm wearing it too, because I've always said this, their pajamas make it so easy to breastfeed. They use magnets instead of snaps or zippers, which means getting dressed is quick, easy, and actually kind of fun. With all those diaper changes day and night, the magnets are a total game changer. They're quick, they're easy, and they're fuss-free. And on the mornings we're rushing out the door, Magnetic Me genuinely saves us a few precious minutes, minutes that turn into more cuddles and more moments we want to soak in.
1:06:06What I didn't expect also is these adult pajamas, you guys. I am telling you, when you're breastfeeding, you do not want a snap or a button. You want the magnets. And they're honestly some of the most comfiest clothes I own. And I love how cute the prints are. I'm always checking their site for new collections and they have matching outfits for the whole family, which has made some really sweet moments for us, you guys. So trust me when I say Magnetic Me, once you try it, you will never want to go back to buttons or zippers. Order yours today to make changing time for you and the baby easier. Plus, they make some amazing gifts.
1:06:41Right now, new customers can get 15 % off site-wide at magneticme.com. Don't wait. Get 15 % off at magneticme.com. So I saw that he is not going to be back this season because Sierra said it's either him or me. And the production went with her. As they should. If they didn't, can you imagine? As they should for a multitude of reasons. Both because she's the better person. Both in terms of her character, but also... Her rising star? She's much more added to the show. A show of just her versus a show of just him. A show with just hers better. Well, and guess what? I think viewers would have boycotted the show if they went with him.
1:07:28Now, let me also say this. That's seeing the viewers watch. Like, no, I think viewers watch for entertainment, not for ethical standards. But I think the internet's petty enough that they would have taken the season off. I actually agree. Like, I think that we would have been like, well, watch this. but we're not going to watch it on the other end. Like I'm just thinking if, if Bravo launched like a Sandoval Rachel show, no, no, no. If they launched Taylor Frankie Paul season of the bachelorette, everyone would watch it. Yeah. But part of the pettiness for this would be, we're not going to watch that because of West.
1:08:08It's out of spite for West. It's pro Sierra. Okay. That means you, you pro. Yes. We're Taylor. It's like, well, that'll be juicy. Let me watch it. There's nobody else to make a stand for. That you're taking a shot at. Right. Now, this is where that was really smart of Sierra. I do believe, from what I've gathered, West likes fame. That's what I learned yesterday. And I think Kyle and Lindsey posted about it. That, like, they think he just clout chased a little too long and then got himself into this situation. Yeah, he flew too close to the sun. He saw that Amanda was going to be the shining star of this season because Kyle was so bad.
1:08:46and he was like I'm gonna latch on correct latched on for a little too long and then statements had to be made and all this stuff and it hurt him when he never meant to do that that's why he's sitting there looking like a deer in headlights yeah because he's like wait my plan backfired yeah I was just gonna go with her we were gonna make it a thing we were gonna be the couple of the season and now America's mad at me like I didn't crap like because he's a people pleaser yeah at the end of the day so her saying don't put him on the show she knows that's the worst thing she can do for him because like all this guy wants is clout all he and so they identified what his what his core motivating factor was yep because he identified her core mode he he did it to her and then she just said oh well here watch this what's so interesting is like did he even know he was doing it or was that just like his natural instincts of wanting like looking at it as a business opportunity well it's all it's like my friend it's like our friends tony and caroline said this week tony said one rule in our house is we're not allowed to and i can't remember the way she worded it but you're not allowed to make a plan and tell people you'll be there on friday night for dinner and then somebody present you with a better plan and you take that um you're not allowed to plan that she had a word for it like do you know what i'm saying well that's one of the things I hated most about New York and LA is I found that whenever you're at a party, everyone's just looking around and like checking their phone to see like, is there a better party going on?
1:10:17Yeah, and we're not allowed to be present, and I love this about them. Be present with the people that you're with and do it that way. West is a, from what I gather about him, he's looking at his phone, trying to find the next party with the coolest people there. With the best access. And I think it's what he did with Amanda was like, he picked her. And then he's like, wait, this wasn't a popular decision shit can i get out no you can't and i think one thing that we trick ourselves into when we watch reality tv is like these are just like you know great like great natural stories that are developing irl and i think what really loses the user the the the listener or the viewer sorry is when things seem overly calculated and so it's like they don't we don't want to make people famous who want to be famous we want to make we want to lift people up who just like are our feel-good stories and it felt like he was sorry we don't want to make people famous that are snakes yeah also i think but let me ask you this okay please we see the trailer and we see amanda get up and leave yeah and this is going to be in part two of the summer house reunion and we don't know if west gets up and chases after her definitely gets up and chases her you're going to say he gets up and chases after her?
1:11:34For sure, because Lindsay fucking hammered him into doing it. He wasn't going to do it, but Lindsay hammered him into doing it. I don't know if he ends up and gets up and walks after her. If he doesn't, do you think that's very bad for him? I think he's already so low that he's in a can't win situation. There's nothing he's going to do on that reunion that is going to help him. I think he might sit there and start crying and say something to all of them about this is really hard on us. Good take. I think he might do something like that that makes him look good, like a play for him, as opposed to get up and go chase after her.
1:12:08Good take. One hilarious learning about Lindsay is she has been yelling at people for 10 straight seasons. She's a savage. She is just boom. I don't know that about her. This is kind of my first time watching her. She follows me, which is cute because we're both moms. So now I'm all in on her. I love it. She's a badass. she's a badass I'm just saying her apartment is awesome oh oh Jules isn't watched in the city we watch in the city now oh we watched it did you finish off campus no not yet do you want to know why Jules yeah I haven't had any solo watching TV time so we watched your friends and neighbors we're caught up on that and we watched Margo's Got Money Problems and we're caught up on that both phenomenal shows but my off campus is my show for me I wouldn't see Harrison liking off campus I think we just love like I don't know if your friends and neighbors is good.
1:13:02I just think the casting and the actors and actresses are so good that it's why we watch it. And I couldn't predict how this thing ends for the life of me. I mean, I don't know where we're going with him, but whatever. I love it. I'm along for the ride. I fully am on my laptop during every minute of that show and I just check in every so often. I love both of them. They're great. It's great TV. Harrison and I have never been in this phase of life where like you get one kid down to bed and the other kid sleeping on your chest and like then you watch TV. It's very fun, but you really need shows.
1:13:32maybe the audience will tell us some more um one thing i want to do when we have time to watch this is a full movie is um the guy's name is rocky or the the thing is rocky the anim or the rock is rocky maybe what's it called project yes project hail mary that's i want to watch that um harrison wants to watch crash but i thought it was too heavy for me i have a question i have a question fauna san miguel just texted am i allowed to make my request for a reservation tonight yes okay thank you okay so here's why he's allowed to do this fauna san miguel's a mexican restaurant we've been really wanting to go to and we want to go with the people from swim and i heard harrison on the phone yesterday trying to make the reservation and the girl said the manager is going to text you tomorrow about the reservation and you need to reply with your request when they text you.
1:14:25And it's the time when they send out the text, you know, for everyone to confirm their reservations. And so if he doesn't do it right now, then we might not get our Thursday night reservation, which is not going to be a date. Okay, I'm going to move us on, you guys, to the last thing, which is the things we DMed. Okay, so talk to me. Here's my question for the two of you. Okay, what do you think is biggest in size between Coke, Diet Coke, and Coke Zero? I think it goes Diet Coke, Coke, Coke Zero. Jules? I think it goes Coke, Diet Coke, Coke Zero. Okay. So it is, Coke is number one. Okay. And it's north of 2X the size of Diet Coke and Coke Zero.
1:15:08Oh, that's shocking. Okay. Here's what has greatly surprised me. Diet Coke and Coke Zero are around the same. Diet Coke's a little bigger. Diet Coke sales flat to declining. Coke Zero sales increasing north of 10 % a year. So in the next, call it two years, Coke Zero will be more consumed than Diet Coke, assuming it stays on its current trajectory. And assuming it stays on its current trajectory, Coke Zero will be bigger than Coke in the next 10 years. But that is because - I'm stunned. And I've never, so here's, I just got to come to a couple of things. I don't think I've ever seen someone drink a Coke Zero.
1:15:53I think that 90%, yep, we got a hand. What are this, sorry, where is this from? Like, is it America or is it globally? I was looking at U.S. market share. Oh. Okay. Yeah, we're not talking globally. Because in Europe, they drink Coke Zero. I was looking U.S. market share, pulled the data from Claude, and there was a Wall Street Journal article talking about the beak between Diet Coke drinkers and Coke Zero drinkers, which I didn't know was a thing. The reason, I did not know this until yesterday and I drink Diet, I love Diet Coke. Yeah. I did not know what Coke Zero was, so I started asking you guys when you explained to me.
1:16:35Diet Coke is for Diet Coke drinkers who like the taste of it. Coke Zero was made for the Coke lovers who wanted a zero calorie option. I was thinking one Diet Coke targeted more female, Coke Zero targeted more male. I had no idea that Coke Zero was just, because I don't like the taste of Coke. I am not reaching for a Coke. I'm reaching for a Diet Coke every single time. I think it's a crisp, tasty, better option. Growing up, this is what I was kind of getting to. I think that if I looked at 100 sodas consumed, 95 of them would have been Diet Cokes. 100%. like I never knew of any Coke drinkers really until I moved to Texas and we got a lot of Coke drinkers.
1:17:19They like real Coke. Yeah. Like, but why would you reach for a Coke over a Coke zero knowing what we know now? Blind taste test. Are you knowing the difference between a Coke and a Coke zero? They both taste gross to me. So no, I don't like the way they taste either. To me, drinking a real Coke is like eating an entire Susie cake. It's that heavy and sugary to me. like hurts my teeth drinking a diet coke is like a fruit platter uh yeah i don't know why you would go regular coke versus coke zero other than like i don't do people like real sugar over fake sugar here's what i think that that one people just think it tastes better and i think there's probably a natural connotation around people thinking all right this is like a a product made of four real ingredients versus Coke Zero, which just has a bunch of crap in it to make it taste like the original thing.
1:18:11Don't they both have a bunch of crap in it? Don't they all? Yes, they all have a bunch of crap in there. The reality is it shouldn't, and that's where there's been this slew of... Poppy and Ollipops. Poppy and Ollipops that are growing north of 100 % a year. Okay, H, well, I now I'm craving a Diet Coke of course was my prediction spot on is this like a normal episode wait hold on this was yes I think this was very much like a normal episode but there was one thing I wanted to ask you okay because you just talked about Ollipop do you want lips I want them after how many more people like what's the market share of the better for you sodas versus so the better for you sodas are growing at much higher rates but their sales are are significantly less.
1:19:01Okay. So we just need like 10 years and they'll catch up. Well, yeah. So I think Coke, like core Coke, I think it's like 19 billion. Jeez. And, uh, Ollie pop and poppy are more in that, like 500 million sales range. Okay. Okay. Okay. Cool. Good to know. Um, yeah, I thought this episode was fabulous and it was just sort of, we're trying to get back to the swing of things. You're doing phenomenal. So are you. We love you guys. Thank you for listening. Thank you. Thanks for listening to another episode of Two Parents and a Podcast powered by Just Media House. If you enjoyed the show, don't forget to like, subscribe, comment, rate, and review.

This week on Two Parents & A Podcast, we are SO BACK (lol… we're feeling like this is our first full on episode back since having Rocky 🥹) And we're getting into a bunch of stuff. A big one: "holding the line" as parents, especially around bedtime (our ask: this this necessary?!), and the broader conversation of rule vs. suggestion (and the importance of being consistent… which is something we needed to talk to OURSELVES about hahaha).
Off the top we get into optimization culture: Harrison did a 36-hour fast this week (per his longevity doctor!!), which spirals into a bigger convo about how we've all gone a LITTLE too far. Like, you have two glasses of wine and now it takes you 3 days to recover?! Steven Bartlett, we love you, but come on. Our take: live in the middle (a "moderate 365"… not a hard 75!).
Then we get into the great location sharing debate (a la the Summer House reunion). Harrison’s take: you should you share your location ALL the time or NEVER (also like is it the new moral compass?!) Plus the rest of our Summer House reunion thoughts (we feel for Kyle now?!).
Plus, why kids freeze up when you tell them to "say hi" (& what to do instead!), teaching street safety through modeling, which transition was actually harder (0 to 1 we THINK!), newborn gas & spit up (am I overthinking it?), Tate's communication leap (!!!!), and a bunch of other fun stuff (s/o Kate for suggesting a segment of Alex just pronouncing words wrong hahahah).
LOVE YOU GUYS!
