Holiday prep and travel with a toddler; gift ideas (including Santa presentation rules); viral “borrow husbands” and Kroger etiquette debates; relationship advice from long-married couples; parenting confidence/positive reinforcement.

Guests

No guest hosts appear; it’s “Two Parents and a Podcast” (Harrison, Jules, and Priscilla/Jules are referenced as friends/family, not studio guests).

Guest backgrounds

Not applicable—no in-episode guests.

Key claims

  • For toddlers, “marquee” differentiated toys (e.g., DJ booth, push car) beat many generic toys; household items/toothpaste/apples also hold attention.
  • On airplanes, a new toy is the best strategy for long flights.
  • In relationships: don’t keep score; maintain individuality; never stop dating; daily acts of service (without telling); avoid non-professional third parties in disagreements.
  • Santa: wrapping varies by household; kids’ beliefs and positive reinforcement matter.

Notable examples

  • Toddler DJ booth, Fisher-Price push car, Y-bike, toothpaste “hit.”
  • Travel rebooking to Seattle for Vancouver; house sitter to manage freeze precautions.
  • Viral debates: borrowing a friend’s husband vs community help; Kroger husband waiting for wife’s nod.

And what would be your festive attire, darling?

1:08I think that's the problem is I don't think I like have anything, but I wish I'd went to the store and got a sweater or something or like even worn a hat. You're matching jammies arrived today for Christmas Eve night. Okay. Very happy about that. Very excited about that. I've got bubs covered. We got a pack tonight. Yeah, but I like how we have nothing on the schedule today other than that. Yeah, that's true. I got to get a manicure. All right, let's start. Ready? Welcome back to another episode of Two Parents and a Podcast. This is your holiday edition. Pre-Christmas. Because this comes out Christmas Eve?

1:43Yeah. Christmas Eve. Jules leaves today. So guys, Jules and Priscilla got us a very good gift. And they always do this, like they pick up on little things we say. and last episode I said I want to get us all something that we ride to the airport together and we travel in and they got us our travel outfits yeah very good gift thank you very much

2:08oh that's what I wanted to ask you do you have a gift for anybody just tell us a random gift that you have for somebody mom, dad, brother we don't really exchange okay Are we the only person you bought a gift for? So like I You guys like gifts So I like to get you guys We don't like gifts Someone likes gifts I love gifts You guys appreciate gift giving You appreciate gift giving Experience giving I loved your gift thank you Like you guys appreciate a good gift So I like giving you guys A good gift A nice thoughtful gift i'm not like a a big gift giver that's fair but you're you're a big you've got like i like great style you're in the know so what is like the number one thing oh god that like you you would want someone to get you or you think someone should get for something else can be clothing can be whatever i mean we just didn't program for this i don't know okay okay i i right now i mean i'm always a sweatsuit but i love a sweatsuit and a trench coat is there a good sweatsuit yeah elwood like still it's currently okay i knew it used to be elwood but it's still elwood yeah okay okay jules loves an elwood sweatsuit we also harrison i love an elwood sweatsuit so do i um so speaking of gift giving i was so excited about the gifts that i got our friends and the block the block the people that live on our block and we got these monogrammed cups some have people's a dress on them and some said like kids names or like their last name like I don't know the Smiths right these cups are adorable and then we made Christmas crack and we had a blast making it I made a video of us making the book and everyone in the comments is like these cups are stupid they're not stupid those cups are awesome I love the cups I support the cups and and then I love I love having great to-go cups.

4:14A lot of people were like, I've never seen these. And like, I grew up, that was just like a staple gift. My parents were always giving or receiving. I'd never received them. But have you seen them? Like, ish. I love it. I think it's a great gift. But have you seen them? I like stand by, what do you mean have I seen them? Like, was this like something that you were shocked existed? Or like you knew they existed? I knew they existed, but they weren't something that's like historically been a part of like my life either receiving or giving. I think this is a great gift. There was all these stores in Oklahoma City that always would sell them and they wouldn't say your last, you could order them, right, and get them personalized or they would say like jingle juice.

4:56You know, like they were generic and you would buy them. I love them. I've always thought they were a great gift. And I thought the little snacks you made, we made as well, those were a great touch. You enjoyed that. Harrison was like, this is awesome. Yeah, I think you crushed it. And you guys won't say it, but like what are other people doing for their neighbors? Thank you. That was very nice of you guys to be thoughtful custom gifts for the neighbors. Thank you. I was shocked. I was like, you guys in the comments need to get a grip in here. This is not like if anything, like we gave it to our friends, Tony and Caroline last night.

5:30And Tony like text me on the way home. She's like, thank you so much. Like it's got your address on it. Like it's thoughtful. Yeah. And so I really, I feel good about the gift. So do you have any other gift suggestions? Do I? Yeah. Well, I have a gift suggestion for toddlers. Okay, let's hear it. If you have a child near our child's age, which is 15 months or – I don't know how many months she is, 14 or 15. The DJ – just type in toddler DJ booth on Amazon. Bubz has been – she's taking the legs off of hers. She carries it around like a personal piano. She plops it down wherever she wants to sit.

6:08and she makes sure we're watching. It's unbelievable. Her favorite thing is if we're watching and she DJs for us. She loves it. We're bringing it on on our travels. So it's like it's got a piano and then it's got a bunch of buttons which play different music and then it's got like a little DJ turntable thing. So it's been, I think it's the first actual toy that she loves. Now wait, hold on. Is this the first? No, there was another toy she likes. I think she's liked a lot of toys. She loves her eggs. The toys that she, I think historically like the toys that she's played with, she kind of gets bored of.

6:45And she's generally like indifferent. Like I'd see her like spending, you know, 10 % of the time with 10 toys versus like this is now 90 % of her toy usage. She's obsessed. Yeah. The other thing she's been getting out every morning is her car that we push. Yes. Okay. That's a really good one for kids. That car, you're totally right. And that's been a favorite of hers for like four months. And that's, what's it, a little tykes? What is that car? Fisher-Price. Fisher-Price. And it's the one, it's not automated. It's not like, what's it called? Electric. It's you push it. So she pulls it out and she gets it.

7:16And then the Y-bike she loved. Yeah, but that's not a toy. That's like a. Right, those are bigger. And then the red toothpaste, the Colgate toothpaste. Hit. Still a hit. Still a hit. We carry it around every day. And then. I've been brushing, we've been brushing our teeth together. And she'll like do the, put the toothbrush in. her mouth and then she'll get bored a bit she just what she does is she takes the toothbrush she puts it under the water and then she sees me brushing but she thinks i'm like sucking the water so she just like takes it and drinks the water through to the toothbrush and then when she gets bored of that she makes she points to the red toothpaste and she will not let go of it did you see i got her toothbrushes for her stocking uh i did not i got her toothbrushes for her stocking Well, I saw this video and I thought it was a really good video.

8:07And it was a girl or a guy. And he said, she said, whoever it was said, when you go shopping for your kid that's under two years old, remember this. And they put a toy and a bag of apples. The kid grabs the apples. They put toothpaste and they put another toy, grabs the toothpaste. They put a fork and another toy, grabs the fork. And so the saying was they're just, they still just want the household items. somebody called it on my video and i i stand by that with with two exceptions okay exception one is like these marquee differentiated toys a la dj booth a la the fisher price car the second is educational toys like love every like the love every stuff and so those are the two things that like I those two buckets other than that yeah it's the apple it's the toothpaste and so on and so forth yeah so it's like it's all that to say like Bubz is getting two Christmas gifts one she's getting a ball that lights up because we love ball and then number two she's getting a dog in a purse like it's a dog that goes in a purse and she puts her army in it and woof woof it's it's so that that'll be fun for her but like otherwise I saw somebody saying like I don't know what to get my kid like i feel all this pressure and it's like doesn't matter wrapping a empty box is a great idea because they can tear the wrapping paper off which is cute and at what point does that change i think next year it will change for her because next year she'll be two and a half i didn't get two and a half or no she'll be two in three months you can still put i feel like toothpaste will still work at two and a half but i think next year what we could do is get one like her like one big toy and like that'd be really exciting for her maybe little the car with the engine in it yeah like an automated car is a good idea as a parent i don't need to tell you how busy you are because you already know and our next partner makes serving healthy meals much easier for us as parents and more enjoyable for those kiddos you guys this podcast is sponsored by nurture life nurture life is a meal delivery service that makes nutritious meals and snacks your kids actually want to eat.

11:36I think about two, two and a half hours each. Because we fly to Denver, connect in Denver, we fly to Montana. Two, two and a half hours each with bubs right now is a lot and it's long and I'm nervous about it. And so the thing that I read, which holds true on airplanes is a new toy. Okay. One she hasn't seen yet. And so I got her a new switchboard. Okay. Great call. Just, it's the same thing. It's just a different bont as the other switchboard. just because she needs to see that and it needs to be very exciting for her. I got her a mini piano that I don't know if it's going to arrive. That's supposed to arrive tonight, tomorrow morning between 4 and 8 a.m.

12:15So that's going to be close. And then I got her, you put these cards in something and it says Apple. And then you put another card in there that says Banana. That sounds amazing. And so I think that those will be very exciting for the airplane. Yeah, this kind of goes against everything we just talked about, but I still stand by and support it. No, no, no, this is different. Airplanes, they need a new toy. That fascinates them for 30 minutes. Makes sense. What's the card thing? You like insert it and it reads Apple. Oh, it says it to you? Apparently. It's funny. I'm not. That sounds like an amazing toy.

12:48I'm not concerned about tomorrow's flight. I'm concerned about like the flight to Vancouver. Because I feel like our energy is high. Like we're well rested. So I feel like tomorrow will be dialed in. it's going to be like the midway point of our travels where it's just kind of like well how long is that flight montana to whistler we it's it's my dad i told my dad what we were doing and he's like that is a terrible flight schedule it was and we so we ended up rebooking it and now we're going through seattle and it is so much better and so much faster well the good news about flying to seattle if you're going to vancouver like your parents always say is like You can Uber.

13:33Your mom's like, I'll come and get you if you get stuck in Seattle because they're so close. And we weren't flying backwards before we were flying backwards. We were going to Montana, Denver. Denver, Vancouver. Which is not a good route. It's a very bad route. Yeah. So you edited our flights tomorrow and my dad edited our flights to Vancouver. So I got one of three of the legs correctly, but no one's even looked at the third leg. So maybe I'll have to rebook that as well. Here's the problem. none of these flights are during nap time and getting to missoula montana you're limited you don't have a lot of options and i i want to fly at 11 30 to 1 30 so badly because that's what bub snaps but you know what the flight god said how about we don't do that yeah that's all right because it's the holidays yeah and we will power through and this is the first time we've ever had a house sitter when we leave town and i think i really like it i think i'm going to like it yeah so i'm excited about this um so we have somebody staying at our house because it just actually like worked out they needed a place to stay during the times we were gone because they're doing construction on their house and we were like perfect because one we have a lot of packages arriving two we're not gonna be there yeah so i'm just like this makes perfect sense and austin always this is what i was thinking about austin always gets a freeze remember this yeah and you have to heat our you have to not heat our pipes you have to wrap drip the pipes drip this drip the sink and like wrap our pipes apparently is what our neighbor told us you just trip the sink and just yeah i'm very happy that we have so they're looking after things just in case the freeze happens yeah so i'm very thrilled about this um yeah so they'll be at our house and just on our on the netflix i hope um we're gonna have a lot of eggs using okay so on the netflix account are you using your page or are you using my page?

15:29Harrison, this is, I'm glad you brought this up. So I'm watching Homeland on Netflix. Yes. And Emily in Paris. Two of the TVs are, all of the TVs are your account. My phone is my account. So I have to go look at if I'm on the treadmill and I'm walking, watching to it. I have to go look at, I'm on season three, episode two, minute 34 and then I log and then I get on yours and I have to go to there. But why don't you have a, like you have, why don't you do everything on your profile? Like, I don't care if I do it all on your profile age. It's not logged in on my phone. I do. What do you mean? I have a different Netflix, like a completely different Netflix account.

16:08But you know that, that like on my Gmail, on the Netflix to my Gmail, you have a profile page. Yes, I see it. Yes. And I, and, and I don't understand why you're not watching the shows on your profile page. because like there's certain shows that I want to watch and you're watching and I'm like I'm not watching them because I don't want to mess with where you're at oh okay well number one I can log on to I can or not log on but I can get just all you do is hit back and hit the thing no no the bottom line is I need to get your gmail logged into my okay we'll do that right after this and then I need to cancel my Netflix account 100 % because this is making no sense and like the Netflix pricing has gone up, so crazy to have two.

16:49I know. I didn't even know when I created a Netflix account, but I had it logged on to my phone, and we were flying one day, and I was desperate, so I watched Homeland. Okay, this is your favorite week of the year. Have we talked enough about the travel plans? I'd kind of like to talk a little bit more about it. Okay. No? Or do you think we've gone through it? We're in Missoula. No, we're not. We're at Paz Up Ranch. We're not in Missoula. We're flying into Missoula. Greenoo. Greenoo. and I haven't been this excited for vacation in a very long time if ever I had no idea that that was your level of excitement yeah I just I have found that we are like the days are starting early they're ending late they are jam-packed and like I need to relax and I even found like we did a friends um like a big friend's holiday dinner and like it was on a thursday night and i was like wow like my brain has not shut off yet like i'm not in vacation holiday mode yet and i'm like so excited to go to this calm peaceful ranch do activities um i think we're gonna go ice fishing we're gonna do dog sledding but then importantly just like do some much needed both reflection and planning and reflection on the past year what really worked where were the wins where are the losses and then set look at how um look at how my goals for the year played out and then and then plan for 2026 like i i am i'm fiending it if that's the right word well one thing that you do um which i love is like you because nobody's emailing you this week or next week so everything shuts down, you go really hard.

18:36But you make it fun. Jules and I were out. We were having coffee with our managers. And I was like, Harrison goes really hard these next couple weeks. But he'll have Aperol spritzes and he'll laptop time. And I love that about you. Thank you. Yeah, and it's not like from full work days. No, but you do. It's just a good, productive two hours of planning and then enjoying the rest of the day. the other thing is like we are the way uh christmas is falling this year like what are you like we are really looking at two weeks of time off or and and yeah sorry no i was gonna say so christmas i think the holiday kind of starts tomorrow i think a lot of people are traveling today or tomorrow yeah and then christmas i think a lot of people traveled like thursday friday i agree like and it's amazing you're right because i saw the airport tiktok i feel like some sometimes you don't pay enough attention to this but like how much the day that christmas falls affects how the schedule plays out for um for the the holiday break and like are you getting a week a week and a half of slow time or are you getting two weeks of slow time and like the wednesday to Saturday Christmas has set up a full two weeks and I want to call it slow time not vacation time because I recognize like people are still you know going into the office and not a lot some offices are shut down others aren't but like either way work for most generally um will will be slow I guess on the non-service side because like obviously if you work at restaurants like things will be slammed and jobs like that.

21:29Neighbors are coming. Neighbors are coming. There's actually going to be like four or five couples from Austin up in Whistler, which will be really fun. Yeah, we got a big 10-person reservation at Sushi Village. I know Alex wants me to talk about the time of the reservation, where in the restaurant, but I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. There was this video and it was a husband impersonating his wife and he was like, so the wife would be the one saying this. She's like, hey, I want to switch our date night from Thursday to Friday. And that's when I was like, no problem. And the wife's like, and the reason I want to do that is because Thursday is just coming like a little too soon and I just think that I'm not going to be prepared enough for the date night on Thursday, so I want to switch it to Friday.

22:10And he goes into this elaborate detail as to why he switched the date night from Thursday to Friday. And I sent it to our neighbor girl. And I said, this is us, but roles reversed. And the husband's just like, I'm good with Friday. Stop explaining it to me. She's like sitting down reading the list as to why. And I thought, that's my boy. Yeah. You know what? Not the only one. is it like a one of those tiktok famous couples well i like there's one couple that they do like mockeries and they're hilarious do you know what i'm talking about i think that they probably so i found them like three months ago and they had like 200 000 followers and i looked yesterday they hit a million okay and they're because they're so number one they're blowing up right now but they're not like an og impersonator okay but every video these two make is spot on okay i I wonder if it's the people that I saw a while back.

23:02They are spot on. I'm like, this is accurate. They're so funny. Okay. You'll have to send it to me. Yeah, he's really funny. Okay, so another husband and wife that I would like to discuss is I saw a clip of somebody talking about a Michelle Obama story. Okay. And I just thought I'd come and listen to this. Big politics podcast. Yeah, we're really, no, I just, I like the people. And she said they were at a restaurant that her ex owned. and the ex comes by the table and she's like hi guys you know Michelle's like hey they're really excited to see each other the guy walks off and Barack's like isn't that crazy Michelle if you would have married him you'd be the wife of a restaurant owner and she laughed and she said no if I married him he would have been the president amazing amazing and the comments are just like that's our girl humbled him so good Barack who like it was so great I thought it was because I'd been seen so I number one I just love that separately I love that as a standalone moment because I just think I've thought it's been living rent-free in my head since I watched that clip and but I've been seeing online this talk about like a submissive wife and I just want to know I just would love to know Michelle Obama's thoughts on that like what I what I think she would say is I'm all for respecting each other and your partner you know like let's have mutual respect but like women you go kick some ass totally totally like she was she married whoever she married would be president i love that yeah yeah i think that i think that her her response to that comment is probably a pretty good reflection on on where she'd stand on on the submissive matter and um where where i do as well yeah i just think it's really um really funny yeah okay now we're gonna Now we have, so we don't have, we have a lot of really fun topics today to dive into.

24:57Jules, do you want to tell us, what's your thing that you sent? There's an H thing on the docket.

25:05I don't know. We can talk about yours first. I don't have one, honey. You and Jules do. I've done all mine. Really? Yep. Okay. I thought we had like a laundry list of things. We do. We have a laundry list of things. We've got things we DM'd. We've got the Kroger. We've got the husband. Rent a husband. We've got your thing. And we've got kids and Santa. So we have a lot to talk about. None of these are my topics, though. Wait, sorry. Can you repeat what you just said? I was pulling up my notes. We've got the Kroger situation. We've got the rent-a-husband situation. We've got your thing. Kids in Santa and Austin parking tickets.

25:37I can explain the husband situation. Okay, explain it, Jules. Well, there's two. People are talking about the Kroger husband situation and the can I borrow your husband situation at the same time because both videos are going viral this week. but essentially there was a single woman that wants to know if she can borrow her friend's husband like to mount a tv or to lift something heavy and i would think the standard answer would be yes but there's like a lot of discourse online of people saying like absolutely not you can't he's mine and i have to put in the work to reap the benefits of having a husband and so like interesting so that's part one we have some should we reflect on that or should we go to the crow okay let's do that so we have a lot of amazing single girlfriends in the city if one of them reached out to you with with this that subject with that request what would your answer be if he doesn't get his ass over there in the next 10 minutes i'm gonna lose my mind would be my response like in what world that's what i would have i 100 would have thought would be the expectation i don't want to be with somebody if they're not willing to help my friends especially my single friends but even my married friends like i think guys have different areas of strength like we always joke with our neighbors he's really handy but they're always like but harrison has to balance our books or like you have to do our ai like you're techie you're you guys have different strengths and like he can come and hang our curtain rod but like you need to do their renderings yeah and like i love that like there's not a guy that's good at everything but like yeah to me so much of just like building the community is contribution regardless of um you know single versus married and and um and so i think it's i'm surprised that people are are against um are against helping because i like one i love to help people that need help um and two i would expect that you would expect me to go in and um and help them figure out whatever matter it is i'm trying to put myself in the shoes of being like no i don't get i don't get it essentially I don't understand.

28:01Actually, like, the anti-videos are like, you don't get to reap the benefits of my relationship. It's so bad. Yes, you do. You just do. But, like, that very much is a focusing on, like, yeah, it just feels like that's ignoring your community. And contribution to your community. Are these single girls, like, not one of their friends? I don't get it. It's a big discourse online. Yeah, I'm surprised at this one. I'm definitely surprised at this one. And then in the same week, so people are talking about this a ton, is there was a husband and a wife at Kroger. And two girls asked the husband to help reach something on a high shelf.

28:48And the quote is, he knew to wait for the wife's nod before moving. so he had to wait for his wife's permission to help before helping the two girls and the lady said that if i was on a different aisle from you at the grocery store and i turned the corner and there was two girls staying there and you were reaching something for them on the top i would be like good as you should thank you love that about you thank you very much i'm so happy to see you doing that? Yeah, you, you have, um, you're very, very cognizant of like looking at your surroundings and saying like, who, who needs assistance.

29:34And I think like a great example is like airplanes and lifting other people's bags up. And like, I feel like, you know, one, I generally like to to do things like that um but two you've made it very clear that like that is your expectation of me and i feel like when i'm walking down the street i'm walking down the street very much of the mindset of like who needs help who needs um doors always opening i love to open this i'll just stand there and hold the swedish door hill yes the swedish hill door just i'll just stand there and be like, I'll be the door person. The Swedish door was top of mind as obviously we just were there this morning.

30:19So, yeah, once again, I'm surprised at this one. Whether it's like helping because of height, helping because of weight, helping walk someone across the street. Like, that is something that you've made the expectation clear that you want to see your partner do and I also love doing okay so what's interesting about this is I wonder the age of the two girls that asked to be reached for something because you just said help somebody cross the street so let's assume that that person's 85 I bet he's not looking at his wife's permission to walk the elder girl across it were these like two really young cute girls because even if they are cute younger you're still like I don't care at all who it is but I'm wondering in this scenario where they like what's the deal i don't know they called them girls so i guess i would assume they're young i'm just let's not over complicate let's help people out let's um and let's give our our let's trust our partners and give them the benefit of the doubt if you walk around the corner and they're getting something off the top shelf or someone else don't assume they got their number and if you do assume they got their number that's a whole different problem.

31:26It's a whole other episode that we got to dissect. Exactly. I always say changing a baby is like changing a cat, you guys. And that's where magnetic me comes in because magnetic me is seriously a game changer. Parents, if you haven't tried the clothes with the easy to use magnetic closures for your own little one, now is the time. It makes changing time so easy. We're already shopping for our little boy and I'm getting him so much magnetic me because it made such a big difference with Tate. She still wears it today. The fabric is unbelievable and the prints are so cute. We actually just got a snowsuit from there too.

32:05So they have, they have stuff for everyone and moms, I'm telling you, if you are breastfeeding, you want the magnetic me pajamas. Trust me, you need magnetic me to make changing time easier for you and your baby. If you're a parent or shopping for one for the holidays, go to magneticme.com. They have the cutest gift boxes to wrap too. So that makes it all the better. Plus new customers will get 15 % off. Don't wait. That's magneticme.com. Okay. So what was your thing? So this is a very, a very good transition into my topic. Okay. And my topic is, I was reading through a newsletter this morning called the Curiosity Chronicle.

32:47And it was a thousand years of relationship advice. And so what the, the author of this newsletter does is every year he asks people who have been married for over 40 years um the keys to a successful relationship and so i wrote some of them down and i wanted to share them with you good job harrison yeah so this is a thousand years of relationship advice okay um so number one never keep score in love scoreboards are for sports not for marriages It's one of my favorite, one of my favorite sayings is don't keep score. Love is a muscle. Know that your love will be tested, but that each test has the potential to leave it stronger.

33:31Very good. Say it one more time. Love is a muscle. Love is a muscle. Know that your love will be tested, but that each test has the potential to leave it stronger. Love it. Maintain interest and passions separate from your partners. I think this is a big one. Marriage should not be the end of individuality. I that's a really really big one because one of my favorite things about you it's it's both like a hobby or your job or whatever it is it's like hearing how your day was right back at you okay um never stop dating I'm 99 and still courting my wife marriages don't get boring you stop trying so I always I hear this one all the time never stop dating is that I like go on dates, get dressed up and go on a date.

34:19Yeah, but I think that this is bigger than that. And it's like never stop caring, never stop putting the effort into romance. Bring flowers. Buying flowers and doing surprises. Spark. Like, yeah. Planning a trip. And that's why I'm 99 and still courting my wife. Like that mutual courtship. We saw an older couple. And I get it. In theory, saying this stuff is so much easier than reality, but I think that's the special sauce here. It's like you need to put the effort in. Well, I think you see flowers, like buy them for her next time. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You're very good at that. You're good at all these.

35:03Yeah, but we always want to, as are you, but you still always want to, you know. Yeah, no, no, no. We're not perfect. Also, I like to say that. Far from. um do oh i love love love this one do one act of service every day for your partner but never tell them about it i love that i love the never tell them yeah this is a big one harrison and i but you're really good at acts of service it's something that i i like words of affirmation but now doing acts of service and then but i my favorite thing on the planet is don't tell them about it yeah yeah and i what i love so much about about acts of service is like i think it with words words can be very easy just to like say say and the effort of words of saying something nice is there's not a lot of effort in that versus doing something nice there's a lot of effort to.

36:03So that's why acts of service really, really land with me. And as it comes out of my mouth, obviously sounds super obvious, but I don't know. It is what it is. You cannot take care of your partner if you aren't taking care of yourself. Make a list of your daily needs to feel good and make sure you and your partner are able to accomplish that list. Wait, make sure you and your partner are able to? I actually, the descriptor of that is I think not as relatable to the main point, which is you cannot take care of your partner if you aren't taking care of yourself well i i agree with that and i don't think you can do if you don't take care of yourself first in any aspect you can't show up for work you can't show up for your partner you can't show up for your kids like i do think that's important now my list of things that i need have gotten a lot smaller since having bubs i was thinking i used to have this like extensive morning routine yeah and i was like well gone are the days yeah but you still got to make sure that you're getting doing enough for yourself well i have a couple things now i like to do and then i have a good day yep um i like this time doesn't heal when it comes to relationships don't delay difficult conversations you're so good at difficult conversations you are just so good and thorough at your conversations okay so next one never involve a non-professional third party friends family co-workers and disagreements you'll forget about it but they won't oh the end of that is so good i thought that was really interesting oh my gosh so i'm like i agree with you i agree with you but i've never thought about that you'll forget about it they won't yeah and and what i like about that is is it's not saying don't bring your problems to other people it's saying bring your problems to professional to professionals they'll forget about it you'll forget about it they won't it's so true yeah this is phenomenal no one has ever argued their way to a happy marriage when facing a challenge face it together no one has ever argued their way it's and then i think this is a good trend like transitory one it can't always be 50 50 sometimes it'll be 90 10 sometimes it'll be 10 90 all that matters is it adds up to 100 oh and also ties into the keeping score thing yeah and And it's like with pregnancy, Harrison's doing like a lot of the heavy lifting.

38:24But I get points because I'm making the baby. You're doing the real heavy lifting. Yeah. But I do feel like sometimes I'm just like, wow, you're. So there's a ton on here. And I'm going to just focus in on the last three. Okay. Like all really great ones. Don't sweat the small stuff. Is it more important to be right or to be married? Never raise your voice with your partner. Never raise your what? Never raise your voice with your partner. So a bunch of other really good ones, but I want to wrap with these three things. Start every day with a hug or a kiss. Oh, I would love to do that with you.

39:03It's a simple reminder that your love goes a long way. Okay. Fun fact. I had to edit this piece of advice from 90-year-old Carl, married for 65 years old, to make it safer work. His original advice was start every day with a kiss and more. Go get him, Carl. Cute. um keep doing the little things a note under the pillow a surprise bouquet a peck on the cheek romance no never goes out of style so obviously that ties really well into that never stop dating and there's a lot of there's more of these that we didn't talk about a lot of consistent themes and this was probably my favorite one oh okay okay 99 of a successful marriage is just genuinely enjoying each other's company.

39:49And I love hanging out with you so much. And I love our Tuesday just as much as our Sunday. I just feel like we have such a good time together. That is so cute. Yeah. That one is actually so true because you got to love like a Tuesday night and a Monday morning because you're there forever. And the commentary there is people make these long list of traits that they want to find in a partner. But so much of life just comes down to being kind and being pleasant to be around. And importantly, having fun. Well, you know what? That is very true because people do. They're like, I want him to be tall.

40:26I want him to be handsome. I want him to have a good job, blah, blah, blah. But it's like, and you and I talked about this at the very beginning. You can make your resume of what, you know, your ideal person. and we've talked about how we're actually probably not what we had written down when we were 20 right um and the older you get and the more life you live especially when you throw kids into the equation does it become true of just like i just want to enjoy this person totally you know i want them to challenge me i want them to make life fun i want to be a good person but i don't care if they are above six foot well thankfully i'm above six feet tall well then and then you got to think about um i do i do wonder like will bubs be tall yeah she's already yeah but super tall is that an indicator that she will be tall i had to call my mom when i was buying tate's gift and i was like what size should i get her because i didn't know and she was like well she's taught my mom does not know tape she just knows her from the internet she's like well she's tall she is tall yeah she's tall but does that mean she stays tall yeah well no it definitely can change but i would be like your family's tall and my family's tall it'd be surprising if she wasn't tall yeah you guys i love fabletics i have their leggings harrison has so many of their workout sets i have this cozy half zip that i'm obsessed with especially for travel because it looks so cute and here's the thing.

42:01It is half the price of all the other really expensive stuff and it is the same quality. So if you're like me and you basically live in activewear, you know the struggle, you guys. I feel like we just kind of pivoted and zigzagged.

43:15Well, I have to give you some kudos. You did your homework. I really enjoyed that. Was it a good little surprise? It was a great little surprise. And I thought it was like a really sweet Christmas Eve thing to listen to. There were other good ones too, but those were just kind of the ones that I ever jumped out of time for. Yeah, that's what our feed's going to be. Our feed's going to be a lot of year in review. I was saying this yesterday how I saw Times posted like January review, and I had forgot that the fires were in January of this year. The Palisade fires. It wasn't three years ago. Like this year is crazy.

43:53like for sure about like 2024 like i can't cannot believe the fires were this year we're coming into 26 man yeah it's wild hard pivot but you said the feed and i wanted to say this earlier but we talk about dental stuff so much that like 50 of the two parents feed is just dental related and i saw something that i don't know if it's true or not but it said that you shouldn't blow on your kids food because it can cause your kids to get cavities why you might want to look that up i don't know because the bacteria from your mouth is getting onto your kids food and then going into your kids mouth this morning harrison made bub's pancakes and i was blowing on them and then she picked him up and she was like that's so funny is that true i don't know but the whole i assume like you can talk like in in theory it makes sense in reality like is that what's giving cavities i i i would assume not um but on that note two parents and a pod also started this year oh we launched in february right i don't remember yeah yeah it was this year i think i have a cavity that's my new thing well if you go in they'll tell you you have six okay be careful terrible be careful it's terrible um also things we did this year bought our house yes very exciting um we'll do a full year and review next episode okay yeah i'm not prepared for this okay austin parking tickets oh my god i saw this did i dm this oh my god this is amazing but emma also told us this yesterday at lunch yeah i heard her say it but i didn't i thought that she was saying that from like uh like if you do this it works not that they like put out a mandate i guess we should share what the mandate is so if you left your vehicle overnight at a city of austin parking meter to seek a responsible ride home and received a parking ticket you are eligible to have the parking ticket waived submit a form by the next day plus upload proof of your responsible ride home i like every city should have that yeah this is phenomenal like so important to take drunk drivers off of the road and to really incentivize people from um from not getting behind the wheel once once they've had um a drink or two i i like every city should have this i'm i'm thrilled to see that kudos city of austin um big kudos okay then this is this week i learned if you tell your child that santa is coming they will believe you a child's critical thinking doesn't fully form until age 12 so up until then if you say something they accept it as fact okay i had this in there that it took just like when i started researching it it took a very serious turn okay of like if you tell your kid like they're a bad kid or they did something bad up until age 12 like they're just gonna be like i am a bad kid and then they become a bad kid because that's what they believe in their self so it took a serious turn i thought it was a cute thing about santa it's not but it's really important but i it can be true in the same like it is a cute thing about santa and it's another reminder of the importance of positive reinforcement around kids so so this i'm just going to read this because i think it sort of summarizes this article takes the concept a step further and says the parent's voice shapes the foundation of a child's self of a child's self-concept how they think about themselves so if you tell a kid they are bad or lazy they won't question it they will become it because they think they are it this is how they self this is how self-identity is formed not by genetics but by repetition yeah and this is like important to say obviously becoming a consistent theme i feel like we've talked about over the past couple weeks and And that's where we just need to be making sure that on a day-to-day basis, we are putting the wind and Bubz's sails and giving her confidence for life.

48:22I even noticed this morning I spilled my coffee and Harrison got up and got a towel. Did you notice that? And you wiped it? And did you see what she did? She took the towel and started wiping the couch with the coffee. I was like, this child does everything. You brush your teeth, she brushes her teeth. You blow on the pancake, she blows on the pancakes. Yeah. But how funny. She took the white couch. She was wiping the couch and I was like, oh no. We just both looked at each other and we're like, you can't say, she's like, think she's helping. You can't say no, so you just have to let her do the coffee on the white couch.

48:54We've decided though, everything in our house, like for the next 10, 12 years, if we get a new couch or something, number one, a pattern is great because that thing, you can't say anything on it. But number two, everything is going to get destroyed. Totally. Like I don't want to be on edge about like are you going to spill that? Totally. Now to kind of come back to Santa, there was an interesting conversation that came up at brunch yesterday, which is something I'd never thought of, which was do you wrap Santa's gifts or not? Never having received a gift from Santa, I would have thought that Santa wraps his gifts.

49:34Well. But apparently that is not the case. You're going to start, because you have kids now, you're going to start getting gifts from Santa. Did you do that? What? Like, did the parents get gifts from Santa growing up? I think each, no. Ah, crap. My parents got gifts from Santa. Okay, so Harrison can now get gifts from Santa. This is the thing. Every house is different. Yeah. Santa does things differently at every house. Sometimes he wraps the present, sometimes he doesn't. But what's the standard? Is Santa a standard present wrapper? So here's the thing that we realized yesterday at the table is everyone does it differently.

50:12My Santa brought some gift wrapped and a couple were like displayed. So if Santa brought you a large triker, like because Santa always brought you the big present. And that was never wrapped. Interesting. I didn't know that. Your parents didn't give you the big present. Santa did. Okay. But I understand like if they're bringing you a tricycle that the tricycle that Santa's not wrapping the tricycle. I totally understand that. But what if Santa's giving you something in a box? Is that what like... My... So everything Santa ever gave in boxes was wrapped and it was wrapped in different wrapping paper than the rest of the gifts from my parents.

50:45Yeah. So all that makes... My mom would hide the wrapping paper so you could never see it. All that makes sense to me. And that's how I'd assume that we're going to do it. But it felt like yesterday people were saying that they were just like, if something came in a box they would just like put the box down a lot of people at the table were saying santa set everything out for them yeah well he's a busy guy well he's a busy guy and then if you think about the movies some no in the grinch they're wrapped but i think in the santa claus movie they're not wrapped in his set i i have a question what okay have we seen those videos of the of the fake grinch going into people's homes with the kids there and stealing the presents no Oh, like if they're bad?

51:30No. So basically it's like pranks that parents do to their kids that where like they have like a friend or one of the parents dress up as the Grinch and the Grinch like storms into the house and steals the presents. You haven't seen these? No, do the kids start crying? I am very against this prank. Because it's mean. It is mean. Yeah. It is mean. and like yeah i i'm actually surprised you haven't seen it i i'm all for scaring them on halloween like you know michael myers comes in or whatever and like that i i don't know i don't think you should threaten the safety of the home oh i agree with that and so i think that that scaring them like i i think that that there's a way to do that yeah like a playful scare and um And a way to cross the line.

52:27Not the Grinch. Now the best follow. Like the Grinch, they had them come in the house. Yeah. No, the best follow on Instagram right now though is Dr. Seuss because he's doing the Grinch just out and about. There was one of him in a park in New York City and the Grinch is like the real Grinch outfit. Yeah. And he sees Santa and he's like, God damn it, that guy. And then he goes over, runs over to him and tackles him. That is excellent. He's dressing up as the Grinch every day and just like going out and doing like really funny things. I love that content. And this is like done by the company? No, it's actually Dr.

53:01Seuss's Instagram account. Okay. Okay. I would like to see the videos. I'd like to see the videos. It's very funny. It's just like that guy's here again. And it's good stuff. All right. I'll have a look. I ordered a Stockings to Montana. Okay. Garland. I was planning on picking them up today. Oh, you were? Mm-hmm. Well, I don't know. I just did an order just in case. No, I'm glad. I'm glad you did. The only tree that could get there in time was pink. Small. Very supportive. Yeah, so it's good. It's good stuff. Next year we're going to have to rethink that though because we're going to have our boy.

53:37I forgot that we're going to dress the tree up in Montana. Yeah. We don't have ornaments. We need to get some though because you can baw. Baw every morning. Well, happy holidays. Merry Christmas. Happy holidays and... We've got to end it happier. Okay. I feel like we've got to... Jules, what are your New Year's plans? I'm going to do something for... Nothing. Are you back here or are you still in Cleveland? Yeah, I'm going to watch some TV with my friends. Honestly, it sounds amazing. In Austin or Cleveland? In Austin. Okay, very nice. When are you coming back? The 28th. Okay. I'm limited by the Frontier one flight a week.

54:22Cleveland, Austin. One flight a week? Two flights a week. Two flights a week, rather. I can travel Thursdays or Sundays to Cleveland. So you're going a day? Yeah. Then you're there for a week and four days? No. Sunday to Sunday. Oh, the 28th is Sunday. Okay. Yeah. So you're there for a week. Yeah. And then you're going to watch TV with your friends on New Year's. Yeah. It's an ideal New Year's. It's the most overrated holiday. I despise it. I don't think we're going to make it to New Year's. well I was talking to the neighbor girl about this and she was saying we'll just celebrate Austin time so we'll go to bed at 10 yeah cause we're doing like a day kind of activity little day party and I just like I don't think we're gonna want to carry it through the night well I love I mean I always think celebrating New York New Year's is great perfect so like 9 o 'clock yeah just celebrate with them when the ball drops exactly I love watching the ball drop watch the ball drop pizza have a magician come by really?

55:25no you can't show Bubz a musician Bubz and Winnie because they wouldn't get it next year they would I don't know I don't want to rock her world well this was much happier this is a good ending it was a great year I'm excited to have an amazing holidays with you I hope everyone has a phenomenal holidays. Yes, me too. And as always. As always what? Thank you for listening. Thank you for listening, guys. We love you. We talked to them before the end of the new year, right? Yeah, like three times. Okay, so you're not done with us yet. Yeah, happy holidays. Love you guys. Thanks for listening to another episode of Two Parents in a Podcast powered by Just Media House.

This week on Two Parents & A Podcast – HAPPY CHRISTMAS EVE!

We kick things off with gift giving convo (because DUH), including the internet weighing in with their opinions on our neighbor gifts and the ONE toddler toy that has truly earned its spot (because ever notice that toddlers seem to prefer household items over toys???).

Next, we get into holiday travel with a 1-year-old (new airplane-only toys, long flights, and managing expectations). We also share how we’re spending the next two weeks (RELAXING) before diving into the viral discourse of the week around “borrowing husbands” and the Kroger wife situation (and why helping people in your community should not be controversial).

Harrison brings in 1,000 years of relationship advice from the Curiosity Chronicle (do not keep score, never stop dating, and genuinely enjoy each other). Then the fun stuff. We spiral briefly into dental TikTok with a question about blowing on your kid’s food, share a great Austin policy about waived parking tickets for responsible rides home, and talk about when kids develop critical thinking and why Santa works so well (your words become their inner voice).

We wrap with a holiday classic debate about whether gifts from Santa should be wrapped (apparently every household does this differently??) and finish with a conversation everyone can agree on: New Year’s is the most overrated holiday.

LOVE YOU GUYS and happy holidays. 💛
