In short

The hosts recap their recent travel (Austin to Phoenix to Orange County/LA) and podcast swap with fellow creators, discuss content mindset and confidence vs comparison, share travel logistics and “best time to fly,” and debate relationship etiquette around first kisses (including their own first-date/first-kiss story). They also do “Bicker of the Week” segments about checking bags and about food tasting better off someone else’s plate.

Guest backgrounds

No guests appear in this episode. The hosts mention an upcoming Sunday episode featuring “buckets of guests,” but names aren’t provided here.

Key claims

Spammers could be deterred if contacting required small fees for non-saved numbers. Content success comes from competing internally and improving, not comparing externally. Fulfillment comes from internal reflection. First kisses are ideally timed to avoid awkwardness (often second date, but not always). Saturday night is the best time to fly due to lighter crowds and higher vibes.

Notable examples

Overstory rooftop + Balloon Museum first date (NY) and a “kid edition” redo in Austin; their first kiss in a modern ball pit. Travel planning with toys/snacks/formula packets; near-miss forgetting a SlumberPod; debating checking bags vs carry-on.

0:33So you were scrolling on Marketplace, and there it was, the bike you'd been searching for. You sent a message, and it turned out the seller was super chatty, kind of funny, and an avid cyclist. The next thing you know, you're in a cycling crew. Well, a community cycling group. The thing about Facebook, you might find more than what you're looking for. From a browse to a bike ride, this summer, find more on Facebook. Okay. How's my hair? great your hair looks phenomenal you've got your new bracelet on from your mom that says alex and tate on it really cute like really good gift very nice gift love it um all right ladies and gentlemen are we ready let's go okay wrigley the office dog okay welcome back to another episode of two parents in a podcast guys we are on the road we're recording this wednesday it comes wednesday afternoon okay i'm getting another spam call i got 11 spam calls on monday are you blocking the numbers though yes but it doesn't matter because they're calling me from different numbers look just today 701 903 like i have one two three four five today so i i I heard a good idea lately or heard a good idea recently.

1:57Look at this. Yep. And I think that what I'd love someone to create is both for email and for your phone number where if you have the contacts saved, it's free to reach out to them. But if you don't have the contacts saved, you need to pay something like five or 10 cents to email them or call them. Because if these spammers needed to pay 10 cents, 25 cents every time they called a random number, I think that would add up and I think they would reconsider. Yeah. I just also think like if you answer in the middle of the day, you're like, well, I'm on a work call. I didn't know why you were calling.

2:48so I wanted to check. And you're just like spamming me. Scamming. What about that guy that showed up at our house the other day?

3:00The bug exterminator. He comes to your house all the time. So invasive. He comes to the house and then Harrison says, hey man, we're in the middle of something because we were like making Tate dinner. But really like trying to be very polite. He was being so nice, but Harrison's like, hey man. No, I was trying to be polite. Oh. I don't think he was. You said, hey, man, we're just in the middle of making dinner as a family. And he was like, but do you have an exterminator? And you're like, yeah, we're good. He's like, well, who do you use? And it's like, you know what? Like, you can drop off a card.

3:27Totally. But it's really not fair to, like, stand here and keep doing this. He came while you guys weren't there once. And he was like, what kind of car do they drive so I know when they're home? See, that's like, no. That's not getting the business. That's deterring it. And that, I just think, like, man, we got to, can't be doing that. I'm with you. All right, back to it. We are here recording almost live, but not really. But as IRL as we possibly can be. Okay. So yesterday we left Austin. We went to Phoenix. The reason we went to Phoenix is because we're dropping a second episode starting on Sunday, which we've been telling you guys about, but we're finally doing it.

4:03And with the second episode, it's going to be buckets of guests, which we'll talk about the second episode in a second. I want to talk about our – Do we have the footage from yesterday? Yeah. It's received. we recorded it onto our own cards okay we have the audio yes we left with it that's what he was exporting i i know but but the audio was the export we left i guess i forgot we left with the cards point being uh we are i guess we are confirming the episode is coming sunday correct okay matt and abby so we went to phoenix they i want to kind of talk about like these creators that we meet because i think it's a really fun dynamic of like matt and abby are youtubers We just did Colton Underwood and his husband, Jordan.

4:44And they were like, oh, we just did them right before this. They parent a lot like us. They have a baby Bishop who is the same age as Tate. Like, it's really fun meeting these people. Yeah, I really like both conversations. Yeah, I'm like really enjoying this. Okay, but anyways, we go to Phoenix yesterday. We like did a six-hour layover. We left the airport. We went to Matt and Abby's studio. We did a podcast swap, went back to the airport, flew to Orange County. we're staying in Orange County because Nanette is a genius. And they saw in one of my videos, I was like, at Harrison, I want to go to the beach.

5:19And they reached out to Harrison and they were like, hey, we want to send you to the beach. And what they did was they gave us, because we're always on the go and we're always trying to perfect our travel setup. And they gave us their Nanette travel. Because the thing about the Nanette, right, in your bedroom, in Tate's room, is it's like a set Nanette, okay? and you can't travel with it, but they have the Nanit Travel setup. The Nanit Travel Kit is what it's called. It is unbelievable. And they have the sound machine slash light. It's small. It's mini. It's for travel. It's changed the game. Like last night we set it all up in her room and she loves it.

5:56Well, she doesn't love it. We love it. She doesn't. She knows. She knows, but. Yeah. No, I mean, it's a great tool. We are one night into using it and like having that for uh having the nanic camera for her areas like it's amazing we have talked about how useful it is at home and so like to have that on the road piece it's the peace of mind we have at home but we have it on the road 10 out of 10 um also just like want to give some kudos to to their social or to their marketing team who just like picked up on on the moment of you talking about wanting a beach vacation and like hitting you with something that like you really wanted and finding such a natural integration.

6:43So going on this trip, um, that they sponsored is it's great. It's fun. I'm, I love like also to make it about you for a second, like the hustle that you have is like, you, you, you know, you have this, um, this company that that's putting, sending you on a cool vacation, but like you're in grind mode right now. And so the idea of like, well, we're in the LA area, like who else can we, like what's the work that you can do when we're here and who can you interview and so on and so forth. And so love to see that as well. Making the vacation, you know, adding the interviews to them. So I'm actually down to talk about that for a second.

7:28So while we're here, we're going to interview three people or two to maybe three people. Is the third confirmed rules? Not yet. So and I think it's cool because this I'm kind of very much so in work mode and I go through these times of like. OK, so if I have my year, I want to spend this year at least 70 percent of it working really hard, 30 percent of it. I call it like my resets, right? Because I don't ever want to burn out. and I'm definitely in this like head down mode but I it's really cool can officially say like I love what I do like I love making content right now and I love podcasting and I'm loving these interviews that we're doing and so it's a really cool phase of life right now where we are on this trip it's kind of a dream for me like when we were packing I was like this is really incredible.

8:23Like Jules and P are out here in California with us, which is really cool. And we're on a trip with Nanit. Like Nanit sent us on this trip, which is just like awesome. And we're able to do podcast interviews, which is technically work, but something that the cheesiest quote in the world is like, love what you do. You'll never work a day in your life. But I really feel like that right now because if I wasn't working, I wouldn't feel fulfilled. So I prefer to work, but loving what I do is just like incredible. Yeah, I think what I've loved to see is how you've managed to make what you do so fun.

9:03Like content, the content game can be very stressful, anxiety ridden, comparative to others. And the confidence that you have and the way you carry that confidence into what you do and you don't overthink it and you commit to it. I've watched you have fun and you enjoy it. And then it's made it fun for me to be, you know, the, um, the guy that shows up on, on the other end and, and jumps in when, when, when it makes sense. So, um, yeah, I'm definitely proud of you and, and, um, and, and the grind and, um, I'm excited to see you keep growing and flourishing and creating videos that make people feel good.

10:05Well, it wasn't always this way, which is what I think is fascinating. In content life, there's been times where I haven't loved it as much, but I really love this season. I have to say, too, though, sometimes what I like about adding in these interviews is, okay, so you're going to meet Madden Abbey. like making content makes you look at yourself and ask yourself like how do you want to show up and i like that challenge about it um i like how i like the mirror it forces you it it's shine okay i like the mirror that it puts in front of you and it forces you to look at yourself like how do i want to be and then can i go be that um which i think is cool for confidence right and then the other thing is i want to read your quote that you sent Okay.

10:49Compete externally and you compare. Compete internally and you improve. I think it's really good. I think it's really timely. Yeah, I think it's a mindset that's applicable to many facets of life. And when, at least I look at when I've focused on myself internally, that's when I've seen the most growth and been most at peace. versus when I'm in the rat race of comparing myself to others. There's always someone with more views. There's always someone with more sales and more distribution, bigger econ business, et cetera. But reflecting as to what are my values, what do I care about, and what am I doing to accomplish them regardless of what my peers are doing.

11:46I think that – can I say something? What I want to talk about the quote is that I think that if I compare myself to others, I lose fulfillment. If I go internally, that's where I gain a lot of fulfillment and I think fulfillment is the most important thing. Guys, let's talk about weight loss because you're doing everything right. I would like to talk about you on this podcast for a moment. The way you speak. Okay. You talk, Jules, do you agree with this? You talk to me in real life a lot quicker than you do on here. Do you, I think maybe, yes, they both agree. Why do you do that? Because I, when I'm, why? Because in real life, like if I say something and it doesn't come out the right way, I can just correct it. And we're trying to now run this podcast through with zero edits.

13:46So that's like the full update. And it feels like it's happened at least the last two to three weeks where like we sit, The key to recording on a Wednesday and it coming out Thursday is that doesn't leave us time to review or really edit. So it just has to go and go up. And so just want to make sure that like we're everything that that is being said, like accurately reflects what I'm saying. You know, I'm sitting here and here's where I got to go with this. I was about to give you another compliment. I want to talk about the success of your content. I'm like, you know what? It's crazy. She's about to give me a compliment right now.

14:21she's going to talk about like how i'm such a thoughtful guy and so yada yada yada and i'm like you know what i wonder if this episode's getting a little too like fluffy love fest and there's alex just like right in ready to that's why i had to cut you off at the knees we were being too nice to each other to dunk right on me no that wasn't a dunk do you know what it actually was i just i love you so much irl i wanted i wanted to let you know bring him to the seat for sure but like I think you gotta gotta recall I say a lot of stuff that it would come out of like no no no that wasn't how I meant to head at and in the world of the internet like we just can't we just can't be having that hey if you want to be thoughtful with your words that is just fine I'll give you some flowers you were on night duty last night the totski's on central time and we're on pacific so that was 4am for Harrison and Harrison brought her over and he was like I'm gonna put her back to bed and I was like no she's wide awake she's ready for her day Because she went to bed early.

15:21She went to bed at like 8 or 9. So she had a really good sleep. And oh boy, at 4. Yeah, she just. She was chipper. She was ready. Happy. Ready for her day. Yeah. Ready for her day to begin. And Harrison was like. She had a good day. She had a good day. She's in a swing right now. She's swinging on the beach. Bumper's on the beach. She's never been in a swing. But today she's in one. How does it make you feel that she just had a first without you? Oh, I'm sad. And that you didn't know it was coming. I'm sad about it. I'm sad about it. So the babysitter put her in a swing. Looks very safe. No, this is a great babysitter.

16:01All of my friends. So I don't know if maybe listeners know this, but right out of college, I lived in Orange County for three and a half years in Newport. By the way, I loved it. But all my friends at that time have now grown up and they have kids. Okay. and so I asked them all like who's the babysitter like you gotta use this girl Maisie so that's who we're so like it's very safe but we just haven't put Tate in a swing because we don't really have a lot of swings near our house like I don't know I just haven't seen a swing but there's this beach swings that Bubber's in right now having the time of her life that smile I was like oh we I think we need to put in a play set at the house well that the swing and the slide I I already can envision it.

16:41I'm like very down for that. Do you want to talk a little bit about Newport and our vibes on the city in LA? Yeah, let's do it. You go because I don't know what the vibes are. I guess you have a vibe. What's your vibe? You don't like traffic. That's your vibe? Well, I have a few different vibes. One is like we get to Newport and every time we're here, like we love it. We love it. And I understand why it was our number two city. It is a special place in my heart. I love. And it's one of those places that you go as you kind of live. It's like, how do we get to spend more time here? And I'm already looking for when can we book a trip back?

17:23No question. Now, this drive to LA that we had to take today for the recordings, what I will say is like i think often cities are very misrepresented by their public perception okay um i think the jersey shore is one of the most like uh cities in need of a rebrand of like the jersey shore is beautiful it's fun and like often when people think of the shore there's like a negative connotation there. San Francisco, same thing. I feel like the storyline behind those cities often gets missed. The traffic story of LA is so appropriately branded. It is so much worse than what people say. I guess that's what I was trying to go with this.

18:16Often what people say about a city is not representative of that city. I think that's the case with San Francisco. I I think that's the case with many, many places. Not LA. LA, what you see is what you get. That highway driving. I loved it. I just played devil's advocate. I had the best time. I was going to say, my friend texted me, how was the drive this morning? I said, honestly, not bad. One and a half hours. We worked the whole time. Like loved it. Like loved the drive. We're hanging out. I always said when I lived in LA, I don't mind sitting in traffic as long as I'm below a palm tree or the sun is shining.

18:51Happy thrill. This is a filter that Alex Cost has too. To me, I – so growing up in Vancouver, the Vancouver to Whistler Drive was the Sea to Sky Highway. And that highway, single lane primarily. Now it's a double lane. Should I talk about the construction of the highway or would that be too much detail? That would be too much detail. We're riding on too much detail right now but I think you're going to land this plane. I think I'm going to land this plane too. I grew up on highways that were surrounded by beauty. So I'm a visual driver. I like to drive. I can be in the car if I see water, if I see mountains, if I'm not surrounded by concrete.

19:28This LA, you are just, you are surrounded. It is a giant pile of concrete. I loved it. I felt like everybody was going somewhere today. Oh, I was obsessed. I thought it was great. Yeah. I thoroughly enjoyed it. No complaints besides motorcycles. Yeah. The motorcycles are scary zipping in and out of there. But like other than that, I had a great morning in the car. What do we think about this law that motorcyclists can kind of – they can go down the middle of the lanes? I don't think they're allowed to do that. No, they are. They are. What? Yeah, they are. They're allowed. It's scary. It's so scary because if you don't see them and you're changing lanes like the rest can ride itself, it's really scary.

20:03I will say whoever runs that motorcycle lobby, their efforts can probably be put to some better use right about now. What? Why? What's the use? Who runs the motorcycle lobby? Well, to get that passed. Oh, I see what you're saying. Yeah. That's insane. Impressive. That's what I mean. I had no clue. I feel like in a world where it's very hard to pass new laws, whoever managed to get that passed through, they should be in demand. I totally agree. I totally agree. Typically, you don't associate speed and quality in the same sentence, right? Because you're not going to go to a drive-thru and expect a sit-down gourmet meal.

How we would segue since we're going to go IRL here? You segue it from the motorcycle lobbyist to. I didn't know that that's where we're going with this, but, but we do need to avoid a double dip because we talked about our first kiss on the Colton and Jordan podcast.

22:04It's okay. We'll tell it again now here. Really? Two times? It's funny because I was like, oh, I'm feeling a topic. Yeah. Wow, dude. Well, we can do a bit of a different topic. Yeah. We can adjust. Take a different angle. So, Balloon Museum was Alex and I's first date. In New York. In New York. And we talked about it before. It came to Austin. It travels. It's like a circus. I hate saying that our first date was amazing. I hope I maybe that would be something so I'll do this I you are the best date planner I've ever encountered still till this day and I know that it's going to be this way until we die because you just you you don't do one thing you do three parts and you were that way when I met you and you're still this way today so for our first date we went to this place called overstory Well, okay.

22:55And we tater tots. Yes, but what you did was you asked me if you wanted me to be picked up by you or if you wanted me to meet you at the location. And the reason he did that was because you didn't want me to have to like dox my location if I didn't want to. So I thought it was like really nice of you. Yeah. Anyways, I said, pick me up. But I gave him the restaurant like diagonal and a little bit down. Yeah. So I was like, pick me up here. So he picks me up. Then we go to this place called Overstory, which is a rooftop downtown in Tribeca. And it has like a beautiful view. and we had amazing tater tots.

23:24And then afterwards, he was like, okay, we've got one more place to go. So we go to the Balloon Museum, which on a Saturday night in New York is really fun. Like just a 10 out of 10 first date because it's like a swanky museum where it's really like interactive art. Like it's just honestly, I've never been anything like it. Add something, go. No, keep going, keep going. Okay, then afterwards we left and he said, okay, I've got two dinner reservations. Would you like breakfast for dinner or would you like a burger? I wanted breakfast for dinner, but I went with the burger. So, yeah, that was definitely date one.

24:03And Balloon Museum. Traveled to Austin. Traveled to Austin. So I wanted to redo our first date. And so we got tater tots. We went for burgers. No, we have to laugh. Like redoing your first date with a kid is really hard because we were like late. and then we were tired. We're getting to. It was the first kid edition for sure. And I felt like while as cool as that balloon museum was in New York, they just picked the wrong spot in Austin. Yeah. And so like it was – And what I wonder is like do we just remember it differently the first time around because it's our first time seeing it and we were in love and had a couple of drinks?

24:48or did like Austin, we're still in love, sorry. But like the magic of like being, you know. No, no, no. Do you think we were in love then? Because I had only known you about an hour. You told me. Oh, I told you when I fell in love with you. When did you fall in love with me? On the FaceTime. Oh, guys, that was before we met. Yeah. Because we FaceTimed before Harrison came on the date. Wow, really? For three and a half hours, we FaceTimed. Aw. Well, I fell in love with you when I was walking behind you at the balloon museum. So it holds a special place in my heart. Just the Austin edition had a lot of like carpet.

25:23Yeah, the rooms were like, and they finally nailed it at the end. Like the last three to four rooms were awesome. But like the first four to five rooms, like it was, and we like did a side-by-side photo of like it in New York and in Austin. So it was definitely a step down version, but it reminded us of our first kiss, which we will now tell twice in two weeks. do you want to tell it because i told it on the other one well let me ask you this do you typically did you typically kiss girls on the first date no i think that getting the first kiss right is very important and the reason why is there's this very fine line between you don't want to force it too early but you also don't want to let too much time go by where it becomes weird that you haven't kissed it becomes a thing exactly so like if you go on three dates and you haven't kissed it's kind of like well what what's going on here is they trying to become a friend but the first date can be a lot so i think the ideal time for a first kiss is the second date but then again like our first kiss was on a first date it was magical and i don't think there's much correlation between the success of a relationship and when the first kiss was i totally agree with that i think it was probably more often than on the first time because the instant connection's there and people are just like you just we were just in the ball pit and it was like the perfect time so i do think it's cool that you took that never planned on it did not plan on doing first case first date you were just feeling it out as you go so yeah why don't you tell the story what happened no you tell it do we need to tell the story oh we were just in the ball pit but like you gotta put up a photo of the ball pit the ball pit is like a black swanky like the lights are dim it's it's about waist high yeah um it's humongous but it's very like aeronomical is that what you call it like yeah it's very modern ball pit put up a photo it's really cool i just i was trying to push this forward because the comment no we'll put up a photo it was a special kiss yeah it was awesome it was honestly yeah just like i looked around and the vibes were high and i said there we go come here and then you know what i did as well what i saved the ball from the pit it's actually took a ball actually that was cool do you still have that you do in the box and i have a ball from where we had our first kiss we have a treasure chest that we put all of our treasured memories in and the balls in there and that's actually cool i think one of the best decisions um moving on i do think one of our best decisions is giving jules mike jules was so hesitant towards having a mic and now like i i I love it.

28:28Like, I love this. It adds so much to the pod. To the point, Matt brought it up yesterday. Yeah, he did. He said it's really cool. He had that third mic. It's a nice added dynamic. Thank you. I'm not afraid of taking compliments, but thanks. But that's a really good thing. Not being good at taking a compliment is a sign of humility. Yeah, I was going to say. I have to say something. I didn't tell this to Harrison. I told you the other day. but when I mentioned my cousin last week on the podcast, she's 10. She's on her mom's YouTube account commenting, I'm the cousin that Julia is talking about.

29:08Isn't that so cute? That is so cute. So maybe she'll be. Is this the cousin on the car thing? Yes. Yeah, yeah, yeah. My mom takes her to shop every week. They park far away. They park far away, yeah. Can we discuss how that bicker of the week went down? It was about a 50-50. People are parking far away and they're parking close. Yeah. Okay. A house divided. And is that a good transition to this week's Bicker of the Week? Which is what? Thank God Jules has a mic. Well, it's checking your bag versus not checking your bag. I am. Yes. We have two Bickers of the Week this week. Well, one that is no longer a Bicker.

29:49Which is what? We'll get into it. Okay. So checking your bag versus not checking your bag. I want to check a bag. I think it's easier. I don't think it really saves that much time on the back end when you land. But like on the front end, Harrison and I are both – we both fly too close to the sun when it comes to getting to the airport. It's like – to me, there's just like – there's three massive factors as to why you don't want to check it. You don't want to check a bag. One is the – number one is the time limit on when you can show up to the flight. Like you got to be there 45 minutes beforehand and they really like don't give you any grace on that.

Read the full transcript

30:34Oklahoma City got to be there an hour beforehand but most airports are 45 minutes. Yeah. So that time limit before the flight can be a real pain as we just experienced. the second one is when you're going on longer haul flights and especially like if you're going to europe and connecting the amount they lose your bag is way too uh is way too to way more often than one would like and then you just like never get it back for the trip right so you're stuck without the things you want and then three and i think the least important is just on the back end waiting for the bag like a little annoying you just kind of want to land and and get in the car and get in the uber so like i and like i just don't think you need that much clothes so and on a winter vacation i guess you can like probably make um cowboy boots like that things start taking up like my toiletries alone like for me i would love to be able to pack in a carry-on but for me to be like that that needs to be a two-day trip i gotta wear my tennis shoes on the plane which is fine because i'm doing that anyways it doesn't allow for a second pair of tennis shoes to go and I need to pretty much take one pair of shoes.

31:40I could take two pair of shoes. If the trip is under five days. With Bubba, it's not happening. If the trip is under five days, I'm team do not check a bag. If the trip is over five days, I'm team check bag. If there's more than two nights, I need to check a bag. That's how I do it in my head. I don't check a bag. Yesterday checking those bags, it threw up my whole den because I didn't know how soon to get to the airport it's a disaster like it just my whole mojo was off because i had a check bag totally agree jules's mojo really got thrown i have a question though um once you have to buy a seat for tate is that a year or two years or whatever two years does she get a checked bag or sorry uh a carry-on bag yes so then you could probably not have to check bags anymore wow we really couldn't because right now bubber you know shares well on the way to a destination bubber takes up a fourth of the suitcase of diapers when we're leaving all the diapers are gone and so that's why it's really nice i have a lot more space because we travel with like seriously like packages of dipes so it's allowing more um what did i forget this time when i said oh i can't leave i forgot that oh the the blackout thing for the crib yes the thing that goes over the crib the slumber pod we forgot the slumber pod just as we were so proud that we had ordered it luckily the, the, um, she has her own area in this one.

34:25So He always reaches over to mine and eats my food. That's very misleading. That is very, very misleading. No, that was pretty accurately leading. That's very misleading. Correct it. I don't, I think I rarely, rarely eat off your plate. Rarely. I just did it right there. If, I can't believe you like Jules having a mic because you can just help me explain. If I have food, he's eating it. if I have food if I've made anything I'll watch you Harrison will be upstairs and he'll start to smell it and he comes and he lingers and he just starts circling my plate and then he just eats off of my plate and I'm like I made this for me this is mine but most recently you started making him his own plate I've noticed yes I now make two plates because I know he'll tell me he's not hungry he'll tell me that doesn't sound good it doesn't matter he's coming and he's eating off of it so now I just make two double the eggs I make two turkey bowls like if a brand is going to send me food I'm like please send me double because yeah fuck I think you're right you start circling around the kitchen and you're just like taking little bites of it like this oh I think you're right yeah 100 % I didn't realize it I didn't realize it but upon I thought what I was doing today was an anomaly no you do it all the time It tastes better off your plate.

35:51I get to see the pieces and go get the good ones. It's terrible. It is rude. It isn't good. It isn't a good thing. But let me at least give me this, okay? Okay, maybe. I'll never eat off anyone else's plate, just yours. It's fine. Harrison, if you ate off on somebody else's plate, I would be mortified. Mortified. I have a family member, not in my immediate family, okay? So not my mom, dad, sister, brother-in-law. Okay. But in that next layer of extension, who will eat off everyone at the table's plate? Okay. Wait for the details. Your Aunt Louise listens. So does she get to know who it is? It is not Aunt Louise.

36:26But does she know? I'm not going to give out any more details. Okay. But because then you're just kind of going to zero it in. It could even be a layer further out than her. But yes, there is a family member. If there's eight of us over, she will - They. Could be a he. Could be a he. Could be a he. we'll eat off six of the eight people's plate, seven of the eight people's plate. Is that where you got it? No, that's where I learned how that's not something you're supposed to do. Okay, but yeah, okay. But like, oh, unique situation that presented to me at the bar last night. So we get in late, you go to bed, take us to bed, and I shovel down to the bar at like 945 to deal with some work emails and just like grab a bite and have a beer.

37:12A non-alc beer. well you gotta let me go so i get there i'm like hey and my whole goal was get there before 10 because like i assume the kitchen closes at 10 i was like no sorry kitchen closes at 9 30 brutal guy beside me very nice looking guy like really looks like a bunch of people that you know really just like run-of-the-mill guy a couple minutes goes by i order a non-alcoholic beer i'm Like, I'm just going to sit here and crank out some emails. He's like, hey, man, I'm not eating half this burger. He's like, I know it's a weird offer, but you can see it's untouched. Burger looks phenomenal.

37:55Half of his fries are there. He's dressed very nicely. He's got a good energy to him. He's drinking a water. So he's not drunk. do you think i ate the half burger no oh i think he did priscilla's saying yes i don't think you did i did not eat the burger what did you say

38:26so did you want to i said as tempting as this is and think it's kind of an offer as it is i am gonna have to say no but thank you so much my take on it was one I wanted to put it on Instagram and like hear what the internet had to say debate wise debate wise I wanted to tell him what happened if I'd sat down and like he'd offered it right away I may have done it but it felt like there was like a like i looked at the burger and it just looked like it had been sitting out like five minutes too long that was the problem that had been sitting out too long well i was and i was like i gotta i'm an open guy i gotta be able like this is me this is the type of situation like i i would love in theory to be open to but i said no i'm saying i said no because the burger didn't look clean and crisp enough maybe if it just come out hot it could have been a different story but I wanted to, let me, let me rephrase it all.

39:32I wanted to do it in theory. I loved it. I love the idea of it. I love that he was kind and nice, but the reality is I couldn't do it. Just didn't look good enough. So, so the reason I would say no is one germs, even though. Not a germ guy. I know, but I'm just saying for me. And then two, I would just explore the idea of what if he was sick and then i was gonna get that sickness like what is germs yeah same sorry same thing also but what i was gonna say was not no one's roofing a burger and i know that i know that i just yeah i'm just like what if so i didn't go to roofie it's actually uh but where i went was like do i think he fucked with the burger like no i don't but my my my mindset was like no and i Obviously, it's a very different situation being a guy versus a girl in that setting.

40:27And that is not lost on me. But I also thought if he did fuck with it, I would just make record that I ate a burger from a random guy. So we would know where it came from. A traceable offense. Yeah. There's been a couple times, though, where I've shown up to places and the kitchen has been closed. And I've just thought, I'm so hungry. If I could just eat that right there. But I just can't do it. Just can't take other people's food. I don't know. Something about it. There was a time though that I was at the airport not long ago. Remember? I was sitting there eating those fish tacos. I don't know what airport I was at.

41:05And in Texas, we were in Dallas. And in Texas, you can't order a beer without food on Sunday before noon. And that guy came up and he was like, can I get a blue moon? And the girl was like, no, not without food. And he was like, but my flight takes off in a second. And I was like, can I get a blue moon? And she was like, you can because you have fish tacos. So now I got the blue moon and I just slid it right on over to him. And that was something that – Now, what do you think happened tab-wise in that story? Knowing you, I assume you covered it because – But what do you think he did? I would have assumed you would have kind of been like, hey, let me get you for this.

41:45And you would have just been like, no, it's my treat. Happy to make you do something kind. so I was absolutely I was gonna even get him another blue moon if we had time and then I looked open over and he was gone during the blue moon and left never didn't hear a word from him didn't he said thank you when I gave him the beer like he was like thank you like that was cool like we kind of like a nod and I was like I don't really care like though I wasn't worried about the tab in the least but the way that's absurd is an airport beer isn't a cheap beer like that's happening at a dive bar and it's like a two three dollar beer like you know feel like that that beers being handed out like that is is a pretty common occurrence airport beers are not cheap like airport beers are they're annoyingly expensive yeah i just assumed he really had to go i could not believe it though i was like doing something on my phone and i looked up because i was like maybe we've got time to get him one more like i was really passing on the kindness and then i was like he's gone gone the way airports have normalized drinking a beer beer at 6 30 in the morning.

42:48Who? Have you not noticed this in an airport? I've seen airport beers. Totally, totally, totally. Yeah. No, but like these airport beers start at 6 37 in the morning, like on my early flights, every time I'm on an early flight, I will look at the bar and see is the bar full and are people drinking beers? And the answer is consistently yes. But it's, it's also mimosas because I think it, I think, well, one flight anxiety. So I think people do that but number two a lot of times people are flying to go somewhere fun they're going on a bachelor bachelorette party they're going on a trip and like they're okay wait wait wait i think i think it varies by day i do not i think it varies by day i think on a monday morning it's very different than a thursday friday or saturday morning flying but that's that's what like the that's what you would think what the obvious person would that's what the obvious answer would be because people inherently drink more on weekends than they do weekdays.

43:45But you're not traveling. You're going to work on Monday. Okay. Is like when you are at an airport on a Wednesday in the morning and you look at the bar, I'm consistently surprised at how many people are drinking. That's my – and how it's just been so normalized to drink when you travel. I think a lot of people traveling for work on a Wednesday having a beer beforehand. Well, that's, but that's also fun for them too. I think like you're away from home, you're off your routine. So you're more likely to drink. Let's talk about your favorite travel day. But what I was going to say before we do that could transition was that is a big change pre kid versus post kid.

44:27When we would travel without a kid, we would light up the bar. You and I. Yeah. We would love, we would go. From the moment we got to the airport to on the plane to maybe even an airport beer when we landed vacation mode with tate i don't know the last time we have drank throughout the travel process drinking in general has been cut by 90 because like yeah you just you need to be on like you need to be it's just it's a full time i just i do want to say i think i nailed my travel on the way here with her. Can I please just give my new my updated travel tips? You did great. If Jules gives permission.

45:10You have permission, but you guys were getting to the airport early enough to have a couple beers? Jules is calling us. Well, here's... Yes, and here's why. Because it's a great... I'm listening. I'm re-upping our parking. No, no, no. It's a very good question because Alex, even without a kid, wanted to check a bag. He would always check a bag. And so we were there early enough to check the bag and that's enough time for a couple of drinks. With summer in full swing, we all feel that familiar urge to refresh your closet, but I'm trying not to waste money on jeans and pieces that I'll only wear once for just this season.

45:48And I know we all know that feeling. You're like, I want a closet refresh. I do not want to break the bank, but I want quality pieces. And that's where Quince comes in, you guys, because their clothes are timeless. They feel luxurious. Quince.com slash Alex. Okay, so I want to talk about my travel things that I did on the way here because we haven't traveled with Tate yet while she can crawl and she's mobile. So I was very nervous. I loved all the pre-prep you did. Yeah, I love all the pre-prep you did.

47:07I love the initiative that you took. A lot of the times I feel like as parents, it's really easy to go out there and say, let's do this or let's do that. But I love how you just went out. You said you wanted to do something. You ordered it. You prepped it all. And you were locked in on the plane. I made a plan and I followed it completely. And what it was going to be was I had a box of new toys that she had never seen before. And then I had fun food. So I had cheese cubes that I sliced and the grilled chicken strips that I made. Because her armies can pick them up and eat them. And then I had little packaged like strawberries, peaches, and one other thing.

47:42And so what we did was we had toy time. Then we switched back and we had snack time. Then we had toy time. Then we had snack time. And we bounced back and forth for the flight. and it kept her occupied the entire time and it was awesome. Yeah, it was great planning by you and I'm like – And then packets of formula. You've got to have the packets – the By Heart packets of formula are amazing. Only problem was I didn't have mine and that sucked but I did pack bottles of formula like ahead of time so it was fine. You were dialed in. And then, yeah, the other thing, have diapers with you. I think that's all for the travel.

48:19I've done so many travel things. And this parlays into my new hot take on travel. Which it is. The best day of the week to travel. Do you want to tee it up? Is? Saturday. I think the best day of the week to travel is a Saturday night. Because airports are significantly less crowded and vibes are high because everyone knows tomorrow's a Sunday. It's probably my best worst take. that the best time to fly is a saturday night yeah it is um you get your full day saturday wherever you are so you get to the airport there's just no madness no mayhem uh flights are typically a lot less full um can always get a seat at the bar restaurant or wherever you want to sit beforehand.

49:15And then what I love about it as well is we get the Sunday back in our home city to reset before the week ahead, to get our organization done, to get back in the rhythm of things versus when I would fly back on Sunday night, I just would always feel so behind. So yeah, I'm a big Saturday night flyer. I know it's ridiculous. No, I actually don't think it is. Well, you're giving up your weekend, which is like a crazy move. But you're also enhancing your weekend. You're kind of – You just got to crush up until – Like if the flight's at 7, you got to crush up until 4.35. Yeah, so we're doing this this week and it's like we're going to get up early.

50:00Watch a movie and it's like you're staying in on a Saturday night and like have a fun Friday night. Yeah, but we're going to have a really fun time Saturday morning. Like we're going to get up. We're going to go on a walk. We're going to go to a fun breakfast spot. and so it's actually going to be a great Saturday. So I have now converted to yes, I think Saturday night is the best time to fly. My only other time I used to think rivaled it was a Wednesday night because wherever you were going, you woke up there on a Thursday, which I think is the best day of the week. But I'm with you. Wednesday to Saturday night, great, great little.

50:34But if we're getting an award of the best time to fly, I think it's a Saturday night because the vibe is overall high. Yeah. But I'm a Wednesday, like for a lot of travel, Wednesday to Saturday. That's a really nice, you get Friday in the place you're going, Thursday, as you said, boom. That's it. Speaking of us going home, I do want to talk about, so Harrison took full control of the bedroom. We returned our bed and Harrison has done in our bedroom and it's all going to be there when we get back. blue velvet bed pink striped rug but like abstract stripes you did the bedding oh you got the toss pillows like i am the dresser of the week next week pillows well i don't even know how we're gonna bicker about it but yeah we do i already know the bicker it's a long-standing bicker between the two of us i think i another classic bicker where i think i'm right and the internet that tells me I'm wrong.

51:30Yeah. So where we've shaken out on the room is we've not seen anything. Things have started to get delivered today. I feel great about it. If the room doesn't land, everything can be returned in the next 15 days. And then I will completely remove my hands from the process as will I but as of today I think our room is gonna be exactly what we're looking for well I really gotta hand it to you because you so I posted anybody know any Austin-based interior designers Harrison came home and he was just like I'm upset because I really want to design our house with you and I was like I want to remove designing the house from my plate because it's a little overwhelming for me.

52:21And like, if I have a pie of a brain, I don't have the 30 % required to put towards designing the house. And he's like, I want to do it. I'm going to give you presentations. I'm going to make it fun. I'm going to do the whole thing. And I said, okay. And like you did, you made those Canva presentations I was making, or I think you used chat UBT and you brought them to me and you showed me and you asked me what I liked and you ordered everything. Like, I'm so proud of you. You made it really fun. And I think it's going to look incredible. Thank you. I just hope it actually looks good. But if it doesn't, you gave it your all and like the things you ordered should look great.

52:54That is my point here is like with the way we did it before, where like we, the bed we returned, like that we were hodgepodging it. And I didn't feel like we kind of took a holistic approach to it. I felt like we were rushed. We just wanted to order for the sake of ordering. And yeah, I feel if it doesn't turn out great, then it missed. Or then I'm not the person for the job. You really gave it your all. I'm loving the chairs for downstairs too. Have we talked about the chairs? No. Alex created a video about the chairs, about these chairs I found. Everyone's like, I love them. They're so amazing.

53:34Boom. Do I order those chairs? No, I don't order those chairs. I order different chairs that look very different. Alex loves them. I wanted them to swivel. Alex wanted swivel chairs. I also thought we had too much flower going on. These ones are striped pink chairs with hearts. They are Bubber chairs. Like they are for Bubber. They are chairs for Bubber. Bubber's house gets like these chairs. They are so like they are my perfect chair. I was like, we can't top the floral. And then you showed me this and I was like, we just topped it. 24 months ago, you asked me to design a TV room. It's all leather, stone, iron.

54:12It's like, no, no. You're in Bubber's house. It is pink. The irony of it is you're the one designing it. You're doing a very good job. I just hope it all comes as we're envisioning. I love color. Thank you for that. Let's talk a little bit about the second episode really quickly. What to expect, how we're thinking about it. Okay. So I think you can break it down into four different buckets. Bucket one is interviewing experts on parenting. Experts. So like a speech pathologist or a dietician or a lactation consultant. Yeah. Bucket number two would be experts in general life matters. Like who? Like a financial advisor.

55:01Oh, okay. um a general like a couple's therapist a couple really want to do exactly um a that's enough examples that's good okay i i i thought i could do six or eight more i liked when he said immediate family and then had to

55:23of the immediate family and then there was six to eight options here's here's here's why i clarified the immediate family because my thought was that dave niter his brother-in-law would wonder if he was included his brother-in-law immediate family and i needed to clarify that niter is not a plate eater what i'll say about niter niter is a table order niter niter will go to to a restaurant he actually will order 80 of the menu i love it that's fun though like He will get eight out of 10 entrees, this guy. It's great. But that's so fun. He is. He's a lot of fun. As fun as it can get when it comes to going for dinner with someone.

56:05That's the kind of energy I like to eat with. He brings the energy from the minute he gets to the restaurant, walks in to the hostess area, to the water at the table and ordering the drinks in Mainz, to ordering the dessert, to going to the bathroom. Oh my God. Stop. Stop. Come on. I got to get on my own joke here. Do you do you put in the food in the mouth? Do you get your own joke, though? Like, do I think that was a really good example of me getting my own joke. But do you notice when you do it? OK, so where where I noticed it for the first time was we were over at the neighbor's house and we were talking about really fun things we wanted to do.

56:45And we were like, oh, and Halloween this year is going to be really fun. And Harrison was like, I want to have a Halloween party. And I was like, great, that'll be really fun. This is back in February. and then Harrison's like what are we going to be for Halloween I'm like I don't know like we'll decide a little closer to and he's like what what time should the party start and I was like I don't know we have like nine months to figure it out and he's like what are we going to serve at the party and I was like Harrison it's February like we'll get to the party and we all just like died laughing because.

57:13And I wanted to get into the logistics of what streets would we rope. No you know what it was I wanted to plan the route for what streets we were going to shut down. But what is that inside the brain? What is that trait? Because you have a really powerful brain. You're a very thorough man. I think that that specifically right there kind of ties into there was some quote that I read the other day which talks about one of the keys to happiness in life is always having things to look forward to no matter how big or how small. and so I do love having things planned and on the calendar to look forward to and so like the idea is like oh I just like thought of Halloween and how amazing we could make it and I just got a little ahead of my skis you you got so the one that tripped you up was what time the party would start like well when does the sunset and I was just like oh my gosh but you gotta like good things take time good Halloween party can't be planning a week beforehand I I love this about you.

58:18There's a guy on our street who owns a bunch of Halloween shops. No. That's his business. The guy on our – can we say what it is? I don't know. I don't think we want to do any of it. Okay. Well, you guys have heard of it. Yeah. You got your costume there. We couldn't believe it. We had the – So we are armed to do Halloween massively. We need everyone's support on the street. I think we have a very fun street that's got a lot of buy-in, okay? We've got some really good new additions to the street. so we just need to set the pace early on. Yeah. And we need to say we're doing Halloween big so we need to go get the giant skeleton and we need to deck our house out and we need to get the neighbors on board.

58:53What date do we want to start? We should probably start now. I don't think we need a second episode. I think the second episode can just be me talking into detail about the things that we don't talk into detail about on the first episode. You're so detail-oriented. You're so detail-oriented. There was two areas where you're just coming off and I would like to talk about them both but I can't remember either of them. I'm very sad about that. No, I really do feel bad. I was trying to get to points three and four. Yeah. Right. So number – Just give us a quick summary on the second episode. The first one is – Parenting experts.

59:25General life experts. General life experts. Bucket three.

59:31Creators and – is the word creators? Yes, yes. Yeah, I think creators. Or media personalities. I like that more. Colton Underwood to me – Is not a creator. He's a media person. He's a media personality. And then Matt and Abby to me are content creators. Yeah. So it's creators and media personalities through the lens of family and parenting. So Colton and his husband, Jordan, like that's where we wanted to have them on was those two talking about parenting, talking about their relationship. Like that's what we want. Talking about their IVF process. Yes. They have some really like some sperm things in that episode that are really fascinating.

1:00:11Really interesting. and and for Matt and Abby okay so what you can expect so what you can expect from Sunday's episode which I'm really excited about is basically parenting showing your kids face online they took their kids face offline like why how did they go about thinking about that internet hate navigating the internet what do you put online with your relationship what do you talk about with your kids so they are younger than us but older than us on the internet like they've been around a lot longer doing family content. We were, we really wanted to talk to them and be like, okay, what have you learned?

1:00:45What would you do differently? So they're really great conversation. So, um, totally, totally agree. And I think that what's so, one of the things that's so interesting about them is like, we didn't like know, I didn't know that world of like family creators existed 12, 18, 24 months ago. And these people like they are, you know, the, um, They built such a big brand in this specific vertical that like really just interesting to see how they've done it, where they draw the line, where they don't. And yeah. Love that. What's the fourth bucket? People in our lives. The characters of our lives. Family, friends.

1:01:36Do you think the neighbors would come on? um we'll ask them i i would love i would love if the neighbors came on um we'll do an episode with jewels this is on every episode no we go jewels no pull up a seat we don't need the camera on so it's just like this one of my favorite jewel stories ever i don't know if we told this story was the first day that Jules started working with you. She showed up and she thought it was still an interview process. And the way she describes it is she's like, I sat down and Alex just started giving me her passwords to her accounts. And that's when I clued in that I had the job.

1:02:24And I said, learn how to pay yourself through, set up this and then help and then do. So good. Um, so yeah, I long went away of saying, um, four different buckets of conversations, uh, have had a lot of fun with this initial episode and we've done two and we're going to do two more over here. So like we're, we're going, I meant like the Thursday episodes with you. I've had a lot of fun doing. Let me ask you about your journey into content creation. Have you been enjoying it? You make it fun. If you made it stressful, I would not enjoy it. If you put like, if you put a bunch of pressure on it, like if you didn't make it fun, I wouldn't do it.

1:03:06Like I really like it because you make it fun. It doesn't take up our household time either. Like I think if I was like, Harrison, we are going to make dinner and I'm going to make a video. And then like that process sucked. I don't think we could do it. And I think that, that it's like the reason why the podcast, I enjoy it so much is because it fits in a very specific time slot, right? Like I know every week I need to show up for this time and I need to focus, do it, and then it's done. Versus like vlogging, which I don't, in theory, I think it could be really fun to do, but in reality, I don't think I could do it.

1:03:45Time-wise, it would just be time suck. If it's always overarching over me and I can't like bucket it, then it's not for me. So I feel like there's a lot of boundaries between when content is being made and when we're living life. And I always say like one of your superpowers is like when it comes to content is your ability just to like point, shoot and upload and not let it ruin the moment. And so, yeah, you've made it really fun. I'm excited to do the second episode. The first two, as you said, were really great.

1:04:22And that's our news. Both of them. I had a lot of fun with Colton and Jordan today, too. Yeah, they were great. Everyone was great. A lot of great. A lot of great. A lot of good people out there. Do you want to do things we DM'd or no? Do you want to wrap? Because we're pretty far into this. I think we've got to do at least one things we DM'd. Okay. Oh, wait. I love what I DM'd you. Can I do mine? I love it. Okay, so tell me something your parents did when you were little that made your childhood magical. I'm not talking about extravagant trips to Disney. I'm talking cost next to nothing. Okay, so I love this one.

1:04:57My mom gave me a book that I could write any question I had on it and put it on her pillow. And she'd write back and put it on my pillow. That way, if I was embarrassed to ask something in person, I could still write it and get advice. That is amazing. Like, unreal. That is so sweet. um thoughtful very thoughtful my mom and I would sneak out and get food we had to throw our drinks away because my siblings would get jealous if they knew found out she did this with all of us no it's so cute I love the comment section so good this is the one I want to do um pajama rides we would all be tucked in and ready to go to bed and randomly my parents would come in yelling get in the car and hurry and then they would take us to get ice cream it was the best incredible right incredible so much fun Some of, I guess, two things.

1:05:47Like that last one sparks my family's Dairy Queen runs. Love it. Which we have brought you on. They have a dairy-free dessert. We just like, you know, things in life that like your history and memory have made so good and so special. When in reality, like the product probably sucks, right? Like to me, like a blizzard is like, it's probably my favorite dessert of any dessert ever. But not because it's like so good. But not because it's good because of the memories of that I had going up there. And like, I still like remember my mom's order as a score blizzard. What is that? So do you guys not have scores here?

1:06:37No, we have score bars. Okay. My order. Oh, oh. My Dairy Queen order doesn't exist in America. What is it? It is Smarties with mint. We don't have mint here in America at Dairy Queen? You don't have Smarties. Oh. And they only here allow you to put the mint in the Oreo. Not the same. That is absurd. On Uber Eats at least. Smarties like Smarties or Smarties like chocolate. The chocolate, like our better version of M &M's. Now, peanut M &M's are number one, followed very closely by Smarties. and then normal M &Ms, very, very meh. So smarty M &Ms you're saying are better than M &Ms? Have you not?

1:07:21I gave you smarties. You had them. I remember. I think they're a little smaller and they have a little more punch to them. They're like, oh. A little more flavor. They're the best things. So you like a smarties with mint. You like mint. You like a chocolate with a mint. You're a big chocolate mint guy. Mint chocolate. That's how you say it. You're a mint chocolate guy. Yeah, yeah. Okay. That's the things we DMed. Well, what do you want to do with Bubber? The pajama rides. I would love to run in there and be like, pajama ride. Hurry. And I'd love to have like a siren. Like you got to get in the car.

1:07:48We're going on a pajama ride. Do you think Bubba's going to be fast? Would you like to say that? She's a pretty fast little crawler. I miss that child so much. Yeah. So in terms of things, IDM'd you. Save those for next week because we are getting tight on time. Okay, let's go. We're going to go do our drive back. Love it. Thank you for listening. This week on Two Parents & A Podcast, we’re on a family beach vacation (s/o Nanit!) and putting in some WORK recording a bunch of fun interviews for you guys!!! If you didn’t know—we’re launching a second weekly episode (stay tuned this Sunday)!! We break down the four new formats, how they’ll differ from the main show, and why we’re so excited to bring more voices into the mix.

Before that, we’re debating whether you should kiss on the first date, reminiscing about OUR first date, and sharing a big “Bicker of the Week” moment: checking a bag vs. carrying on. We also chat about eating off your partner’s plate (guess who’s guilty), updated travel tips with a 10-month-old, and how to make childhood feel magical. Oh—and we reveal the best day of the week to travel (spoiler: it’s Saturday PM, and we explain why).

Plus, a quick house update, our take on LA traffic, and a cheesy but true reminder about doing what you love.

WE LOVE YOU GUYS!
