In short

Memorial Day neighborhood BBQ and community front-porch culture; postpartum life at 5 weeks; pop-culture commentary; a live Q&A segment including potty training and “staying up past bedtime” ideas.

Guests

No guest hosts. Harrison and Tate appear off/on as children; the live Q&A includes audience members (e.g., “Nat” from the Netherlands; “Rachel” mentioned by the hosts).

Guest backgrounds

Harrison is the co-parent; Tate and Rocky are the children (Rocky is ~5 weeks old). No external guests are interviewed.

Key claims

The BBQ was easy to repeat: print flyers, grill burgers/dogs, and run simple kid games (watermelon contest, egg-on-spoon walk, tomato/water balloon toss, dunk tank). Community planning one week ahead worked; RSVP surprised them (50 early; ~200 max; ~250 total). Tate loves Rocky intensely; postpartum baby is sleeping/eating well.

Notable examples

Waymo drove up and neighbors clapped; dunk tank was nonstop; musicians (Bobby Murray) played covers with a fiddler; tomato toss used giant tomatoes when balloons ran out. Live Q&A covered potty training timing (likely after age 2) and “jog or read” for staying up late.

0:00Girl, winter is so last season.

0:04Tate:And now spring's got you looking at pictures of tank tops with hungry eyes. Your algorithm is feeding you cut-offs. You're thirsty for the sun on your shoulders. That perfect hang-on-the-patio sundress. Those sandals you can wear all day and all night. And you've had enough of shopping from your couch. Done hoping it looks anything like the picture when you tear open that envelope? It's time for a little in-person spring treat. It's time for a trip to Ross. Work your magic. Plan B is a backup birth control option that's there for you when things don't go according to plan. It specifically works after unprotected sex and before pregnancy occurs by temporarily delaying ovulation.

0:42Tate:Plan B is available nationwide at all major retailers and through delivery apps like DoorDash. No ID, prescription or age requirement. It's the number one OBGYN recommended brand of emergency contraception and it won't impact your future fertility. That's freedom to be. Use as directed. All right. Welcome back to another episode of Two Parents in a Podcast. You guys, we have a full house today. We've got Harrison's off camera because he's holding Tate. Tate? Hello. Okay. Oh, she just said hello. Hi, honey. This is a microphone. Mic? mic yeah the mic yesterday we had our memorial day barbecue which on one token was so much fun for the neighborhood and we had a blast but on the other token we need to acknowledge we always need to acknowledge what the days are for and memorial day is to honor our fallen soldiers who have served for our country so to that i say thank you to those that have served and now I do want to talk a bit about the barbecue because you do is Tate knocking on the door?

1:51Tate:yeah okay I feel like I'm gonna need to go okay yeah Tate's identifying all the water but I'm very disappointed to miss this episode I know it's gonna be a great episode a lot of fun things to talk about and I know that you wanted it's all well your dad I wanted to record but it's just not in the cards today okay all right H tape bye bye bye you're gonna go dada okay okay we're back so they left which is sad but we are gonna do we're gonna do the episode and here's what we're gonna talk about oh I'm okay the one thing I want to say on the memorial day block party was the top comment on this video I made was Harrison does everything 200 % and I've been trying to figure out a way to put that into words and that was it right there when I read that I was like he does everything he's either not into it or he's into it 200 % to the tune of we spent all day Saturday doing test runs on burgers on hot dogs this she's Tate's still saying bye to us outside so it's like a a little distracting.

3:04Bye Tate. Bye Tate. How many minutes do the burgers need to be cooked on each side? Three and a half, three and a half on each side.

3:13Tate:So a six minute, I mean a seven minute burger. So we hit a line like of people and he was really back there just flipping the burgers. He was loving it. He had the best time. That sounds fun. It was very fun. We did. Okay. So we did three classic, we did a watermelon eating contest. Okay. We did the water balloon toss. And then we did walk with the spoon in your mouth with the egg. And it was very fun. And it was pretty surreal to look outside and see everyone in the neighborhood and our friends and their kids just hanging out. It felt very pre-phone era. Did you participate in any of the challenges?

3:50Tate:I did. I did the egg walk. Okay. No, I didn't. Actually, my heat didn't end up going in the egg walk. So I did the balloon toss. Okay. And are you going to ask me how I did? Yeah. I won. What? Yeah, thanks, Jules. And you know what? We didn't even use balloons because the kids got in a water balloon fight before. We were out of balloons, so we ended up actually using giant tomatoes. And they all ended up busting. It was just like silly and fun. It was just a great day. Tomato toss. Yeah, we did a tomato toss. And you just get to hang out with the neighbors and talk to the neighbors. And we had a very joyful time.

4:27I was going to say Harrison probably liked doing the burgers because he had an opportunity to talk to everyone. one I think he did he also danced with the band oh okay Bobby yeah we booked him you did he came okay I'm mad at myself because I never went over and talked to him oh no Harrison like people loved him good he was so good yeah I saw Harrison and the neighbor tea taking all these guys over

4:55Tate:to meet him like like they had a great time his music was so good but you know how like I needed to find the eggs and I needed to find the spoons I needed to find the bug spray and like I just looked up and I was like I haven't done I haven't talked to anyone right so that was how it was for me but I also love that did he sing covers or did he sing original songs he did mainly covers because we asked like do some just do some covers and they were so good and they were easy to work with like we probably reached out to 20 musicians and everyone had a booking agent or are you gonna bring your sound equipment or this that he's just like yeah i'll be there oh i was like thank you i'm glad that worked out yeah it was a great wreck and i would recommend him to anyone he was awesome bobby murray bobby murray in the austin area yep good old bobby murray and he brought a fiddler oh yep and it was great they played under a tent backed their truck up to it it was easy oh the hit though the hit of the party was the dunk tank that dunk tank i mean it was non-stop usage yeah and i didn't know that that was going to be the case because we also had a balloon tire there and she like making balloon animals and we also had a slip inside and i would say the three of those were the big hits but the dunk tank was like non-stop and so i saw pictures and it was just like in the middle of the street yeah we just coned it off and you can just do that or it's like no but we just do it our neighbors have always done it oh guess what drove up to the party a waymo everyone stopped and was just like clapping and we were like here we go like if austin understands one thing it's a waymo we checked there was no one in it uh-huh and so i took a photo to insert because i was like this is so podcast-esque of us to have a waymo drive up it sat there confused for like 15 minutes and then it turned and went down another street oh because it is really easy to go around in your neighborhood but like i was just wondering well we also don't live on a through street right so that's why we're able to block it off and we have so we blocked it like we just it was the easiest go around on the planet yeah like the fedex guy drove up and we're like do we need to move he's like no this is so easy so it was no problem my mom um she sent me a bunch of pictures from i'll have to show you after from our block parties and from what i could see there was like a toga um party tying like a toga contest at one point yes she sent the giant banana split i want to see that um i told i told the neighbors about that um there was a couple of other things i can't remember but so how often did you have that we did it annually okay during the summer okay well actually it looked to be in october because my dad was blowing out candles at one point so i'm guessing it was october but We did it every single year growing up.

7:40And like the – I think we have them here. Like the cops on horses. Yep. We have them here. The cops on horses would come by. We've got to get those. Yeah. My mom was like, you've got to tell her that. And I was like, I don't know. It's 100 degrees outside. I don't know. No, we've got to get – but they're out anyways. Right. Yeah. So we would do it once a year.

7:59Tate:So I – you know me. I don't like to say we're going to do it once a year on Memorial Day weekend. I don't want that. that i can commit to doing it once a year yeah but is it in the fall isn't like that i don't know but our neighborhood so one thing that's important about our neighborhood because somebody messaged me was like where's your backyard like are you guys ever in your backyard and i was like oh we are front porch culture right like we're not and i've said this before on here but and where i grew up you know you go to your backyard to play right a friend over and you play in the backyard.

8:33Tate:Our whole neighborhood is front yard. Right. And we've got giant porches and it's very porch culture, very street culture. So that's where we don't really have a backyard. We have a side yard. Um, and so it's very communal and we're very walkable. And so you just see people all the time and I've never lived anywhere like this, but I can tell you, we got so lucky when we moved to Austin and picked this house because there's so many kids and there's so many people that are just they just want to hang out and find community too so that's what yesterday you know really felt like and it was amazing and so and I can't wait to do it again I feel like people I don't know if there's like a tip in here but like people would be over you guys decided to do that when last month like one week in advance and I feel like the reason people don't do things like this is because they think so much planning or like whatever needs to go into it so I don't know if there's anything there there is I thought a lot about this Jules because it's such an easy recipe to repeat you do not okay so it was a very foreign concept for me to actually plan apart we do we hand out flyers we literally print them and we walk door to door and you hand out the flyers and then people come and people invite other people and like there was we didn't put flyers on multiple streets and everyone from those streets came because one person texted it to one person on the street.

9:54Tate:So then everyone ends up coming. Right. And you walk by and you stop. And so you just have to do it and just like commit and say, okay, people will come because it's, you're outside your comfort zone. So you print the flyers, you pick the date. The food was so easy. We told everyone bring aside. People brought a bag of chips. They had a dessert. They brought cookies. We handled the burgers and the dogs. That was easy. We just pulled a grill outside and two boys sat there, flipped burgers and dogs. And that was what you ate. And, um, the egg on a spoon we hard-boiled the eggs and we had plastic spoons you hard-boiled the eggs that was a big debate do you need to hard-boil them or not we decided to no isn't the point is that it's supposed to break that's what i thought i don't know i don't know how i got they're not okay so after further review and people kept saying why are these hard blood i was like i don't know i just thought they were supposed to be they weren't supposed to be anyways we you all just need eggs and then spoons watermelon eating contest you need watermelon and then the balloon toss you need the balloons yeah and for the dunk tank something that would also suffice is literally a kiddie pool because by the end of the people were just jumping in it using it like a swimming pool were the kids doing it or the were the adults both it was an even split and everyone put their dad in you know all the kids like they were just having so much fun so anything and then you just invite people over and play music on a speaker and you've got it yeah people just want to they just want to hang out and oh well we told everyone to byob so everyone brought their own coolers it looked like a tailgate yeah and then people brought chairs one guy dropped off tents i was wondering i saw the tents yeah we had a guy on our shoes like i have tents we're like we need tents yes we sat on the lawn people brought blankets like and you just vibe and you walk around and you talk to people it sounds very fun yeah and the house you do it out front of needs to just know people are going in for the bathroom and that like that's it that was the extent of it so it was lovely I encourage everyone to do it because I was like nervous to do it I was like no one's gonna come do people want everyone loved it they you know your neighborhood does want to do it so we've also done a crawfish boil before which is a fun idea and I can't remember if you said this on the podcast or not but I think the guest list ended up being more than you thought because like what not everyone has Memorial Day plans anymore when you have a bunch of kids no one had them right we were shocked like when the rsvp was at 50 i was floored i was like i cannot believe 50 people are coming there was there was i think throughout the day we had 250 total but at one point i think there was 200 max oh my gosh yeah and it was just it was great yeah so really fun i encourage you all to do it just do a summer party yeah and the kids love it oh we had this also the slip and slide which you can order so um okay that's the skinny there what's going on in our household okay so five weeks postpartum which means rocky is five weeks old um he is still eating and sleeping good um i thought that his tummy was hurting a little so i've started getting the remedy remedy remedy kids gas drops yeah i think they help um i tried gripe water i don't think it helped as much i think the remedy kids helps more and that only that only happened a couple times for the most part he's we got lucky he's a really really good baby tate loves him i mean all morning long she's just rocky rocky she was bringing him stuff she brought him five different outfits to wear you know she loves she doesn't want to do anything now when he's not there and i i would say i under not underestimated I didn't give the situation enough credit I thought it was going to go much worse than this I thought we were going to have far more like jealousy happening and things like that and like she just loves him and Rocky I don't know that she ever remembers a time where there was the three of us you know because they have they don't have long memories like that little goldfish yeah so like she just knows Rocky she's over the baby doll Really?

14:03Tate:Well, she's not over it, actually. This morning she was saying Babydoll, but her most favorite thing on the planet is Rocky. And the Babydoll's second, but, you know, Rocky's number one. You guys know Tate is in the stage where everything has to be eaten on the move. Between Winnie and Tate, there's always someone making laps around the living room with a drink or a handful of snacks. If you have kids or pets, you know rugs basically become ground zero for every spill, stain, and disaster. That's why I'm obsessed with Tumble rugs. Before Tumble, I felt like I was constantly on my hands and knees scrubbing stains out of rugs.

14:39Tate:And even when you finally get a stain out, does the rug ever really look the same again? No. Most rugs are either too delicate to wash or a nightmare to clean. Tumble makes spill-proof, stylish, machine-washable rugs designed for real life. Tumble rugs feature a proprietary spill-proof surface that causes liquids to bead up to the top of the rug So instead of soaking into the fibers, like most rugs, you can literally wipe spills away in seconds. It's basically magic. And when you need a deeper clean, tumble rugs are fully machine washable, even in the larger sizes. Don't just take my word for it.

15:16Tate:Hundreds of thousands of homes have already switched to tumble rugs. And they have over 30 ,000 five-star reviews. Perfect for living rooms, kitchens, entryways, hallways, and kids' rooms. Basically, anywhere in your home where it tends to get a little messy. Machine washable rugs made better for a limited time only. 15:55Tate:Skims is always changing the game with their intimates. Everything they come out with is truly the best. They make the stretchiest underwear fabric. Then they created the cutest push-up bra, and it's comfy. And now they've done it again with their new everyday cotton fabric. You guys know I'm a month postpartum right now, and comfort is everything. Cotton is basically all I want against my skin these days. I think skims must have read my mind because I'd just been thinking about replacing a bunch of my underwears and bras with cotton pieces. than Everyday Cotton dropped, and it was exactly what I was looking for.

16:29Tate:My absolute favorite right now is the Everyday Cotton Ultimate Bra. I'm actually wearing it right now. And it has the same roundness and iconic lift as the original Ultimate Bra does, but it feels even better in the cotton fabric, especially under a t-shirt like I'm wearing. I've been wearing it every day, and trust me, I've put the bra to the test. It's the one. So you guys get in on the goods because there's nothing better than a good bra and underwear, especially with summer coming up. shop everyday cotton and all of my favorite bras and underwear at skims.com after you place your order be sure to let them know we sent you select podcast in the survey and be sure to select our show in the drop down menu that follows and all right what else do i want to talk about here jules okay let's do some pop culture things okay it just sounds fun calves announcers only referring to taylor swift as travis did you see this girlfriend no i mean i saw them at the game absolutely and i shout out to her for stopping him when that kid wanted to give him a high five loved that yeah but no what they say so on on the stream or whatever i don't know what the jumbotron no on like the on tv oh like four to five times i don't know who it was i should have looked this up before um never referenced her by name never said taylor swift only said oh travis kelsey's here with his girlfriend travis kelsey and his fiance it was very i thought like mean spirited and like but or let me ask you this are they not allowed to say her name there's no way okay right well i don't know because that's that's listen i love them both but it's it's taylor swift and her boyfriend right her fiance what espn announcer bizarrely refuses to say say taylor swift's name why during nick's calves game what does is there any speculation as to why it was richard jefferson that's his name um no one's saying that it's not because it can't be said i don't like her name's not trademarked we don't know we can say taylor swift right now without fear of being able to say taylor swift i thought it seemed a little mean-spirited personally but he does he has to know that people aren't the people are going to catch that yeah did they catch it oh i caught it straight away the first time he said it and then he said it five more times jules were you watching the calves game no i was not oh i was watching taylor swift oh clips of taylor swift at the calves at the calves but i mean it was kind of cool for me like it was very cool yeah as a cleveland native correct i just i cannot believe they didn't say what i know i just yeah there has to be a reason interesting okay well that don't love that because you guys just it's taylor and travis yeah that's good for the sport buddy right like it was good for her to be there correct let me tell you what it was it was good for her to be it's good for her to be anywhere right correct interesting well i would like to assume that there's something deeper there but i don't know what it is i wasn't giving him the benefit of the doubt well whether or not he whether or not he it was good or bad spirited there's got to be something right not in deeper not just and he cannot say he did not know right i know i was talking never seen her i was talking to my mom about this he she said he probably has no clue who she is i said i'm gonna stop you there yeah no she he knows he knows there's no one in this world that does not know who she is correct correct um okay well that's that on that i suppose if anybody has any thoughts as to why please do comment it um okay so my friend rachel hi rachel she listens to this she heard us talking about nick lachey jessica simpson hillary duff and we were like you know talking about how jessica simpson and nick lachey were on the same flight to hawaii and how jessica was up was sitting in first class and her kids were in the back and then we were talking about comebacks we were like jessica simpson needed a comeback but she never really had it but hillary duff's having one my friend rachel texted me she's like jessica simpson is worth 200 million dollars hillary duff is worth 20 was it your friend rachel that commented too maybe someone commented the exact same thing as well probably rachel did you comment on instagram with instagram no it was uh on spotify oh look maybe i don't know if she did but all that to say I was laughing because so Jessica Simpson I guess she has her shoes and she has her clothing line and that's what's made that's music and movies yeah but what movies Daisy Duke what oh those boots are made for walking Dukes of Hazzard but that's not like so will you google where she's got lifestyle and apparel brand the Jessica Simpson collection okay and that's what did it yeah her music career in television media and publishing and then one more thing to google she responded to this nick lachey situation really yes what did she say she didn't really respond to him she she more responded over the i don't know what's not allegations but this like whole first class versus people sitting in the back her mom bought the first class tickets and it was her mom's treat for them to go to hawaii so her mom bought the two seats for them maybe upgraded the two seats for them up front okay so that's what she responded on well in like not an interesting response but like we already knew that but okay great like we didn't know her mom bought them but it's just so funny how like you never know what's gonna get legs right and then that there was it got it right um i have two things what are they well i have one very first important thing okay i i was wrong in that you were wrong about this whole crown thing who's right well crown is an accepted pronunciation and i did a poll 10 of people say crown i've never in my life heard that before i voted on the poll just to get my name in there maybe it's only nine percent no but 10 percent of people say crown 56 55 is shade crayon like harrison says right 10 ish percent say cray crayon like crayon no harrison says crayon right and then crayon like crayon i say crayon so that was like the unexpected thing is that people were flaming me in the comments yeah i've never heard that say like You've never heard someone say crayon?

23:17Tate:Like that to me is like, I'm like, oh, what a funny accent to say that way. Like what an odd. In the crowns. I don't think I'm ever going to get over it. Yeah. I've never heard. But I was so shocked that it was like actually because there's things that you say versus I don't know because you say them versus because you're from Oklahoma. Right. And so I was positive crown was just like not an accepted pronunciation, but it is. I'd never heard anybody pronounce it differently. growing up like i was like when when i started moving away and i'd be like what is that odd but it's such a yeah i don't so so what's the consensus we don't know no i would say like what the poll was match what the comments were in that like it's crayon crayon however crayon which makes that's how it's spelled however there's four accepted pronunciations and both of us are right okay but someone gave a good tip in the comments that was like regarding the situation not the pronunciation that was like the next time tate goes to color on something with a crayon that you should just like keep some sheets of paper around in different rooms and just hand her the sheet of paper and say crayon on this not because it's like the same concept of like they don't know what not to do they you need to tell them what to do so she said slip them a sheet a paper and say crayon on this love that instead of taking the crayon away love that she needs to learn where she can use the crayon this is that thank you to that mom that commented that because so what happened when she was coloring on all of the things was i wasn't necessarily stopping her because i didn't want to i don't want to overuse no right like it just loses its luster and you're like no no no and it's just like then then she's confused and like she doesn't get it but the other day we did tell her she has all these bug bites yes i ordered the stickers that gave her like i were on the bug bite situation okay but there was a time where she had a bunch of bug bites and i put on this cream and i was like no itching and so she would just walk around pointing at them saying no no no so she does she can understand no but in the scenario where she's coloring on the table and things and it's her table and it's plastic and like I don't care I don't I do love not overusing no in that scenario and I love replacing it with paper and saying crown here yeah because that is where kids thrive like they sorry it's crown crown here crayon here color here no you guys I are I've already swapped one word for you all which was and I have to think about it every time I say it.

25:58Tate:Lawyer. Liar. Lawyer. It's the law. Your. It's law. And I think every time before I say, oh, are they a, and I go lawyer, like I have to think about it. But I want to say, are they a lawyer? I think I just kind of changed the way I say lawyer to match more what you say. Lawyer. Liar. Did you call the lawyer? And the other thing is that I don't know if it's Europe, oklahoma cement cement you say cement no i i do say cement but i'm saying you want me to say cement yeah so do other people say cement oh i'm sure i need to ask all my friends we just need someone to call in and say all these specific i know i need i need one friend nugget won't answer the phone nugget please answer have you ever taken one of those like regional quizzes no no we can't do it on the pod but there's like there's one specific um it's I think it's a New York Times like regional quiz and it asks you like 20 or 30 questions and it can always get right with where you're from um and there's like one specific question that will always tell you that you're from Cleveland Ohio and it's what do you call the area of grass in between the street and the sidewalk okay what do you call it no what do you call it so the area of grass between the street and the just your yard between the street and sidewalk that's you guys don't have it because your guys's street goes like street sidewalk we have no we have a little patch okay a very small patch and you would call that your yard yeah that's our yard in in cleveland it's called a tree lawn it's the only place in the world where you called a tree lawn i mean yeah never heard of that i think it's the only place in the world where you have a name for it and what do you guys typically and did you ever plant trees there no there's a tree on everyone what like in my neighborhood we have the tree lawn and there's a tree on every single one who started that i don't know tree company like everyone has to have a tree here big tree um but yeah that's the dead ringer that you're from cleveland and i could stop asking you other questions after that is a buzzfeed quiz no it's like i mean not reputable but it's like new york times or something like that okay i'm gonna do it post i'm gonna do it but i used to do buzzfeed quizzes when i was born oh i used to love them i had a viral buzzfeed quiz that i made once for class what was it it was what halo top flavor are you jules that should be your fun fact it would be a good fun fact it was for a class that had to make it and i had like over i don't know i had like a couple million hits on what something and i think for class we had to get like a hundred people to do it or something like that and mine just had millions on it and so you went through and like described the halo top flavors with personalities right it would be like pick your vacation spot and it would be like beach or city or bliss or this and i'd be like oh if you pick beach you're boring and vanilla like i would just make it up in my head there was no algorithm you wouldn't give beach tropical you'd give them boring i don't remember i was a savage quiz jules apparently i was judging people you're beach boring people are like wait what no I want peach yeah mango um what was that Cleveland a BuzzFeed quiz I had something to say although I don't know what it was okay what was the second thing you had that we should go TikTok live right now yeah okay I was thinking that for the next time that we have a recording where it doesn't go the way that we planned it to go we should go TikTok live and ask questions all right ready so what do i say what do i do as my groceries was the last time i did this what should i title this recording recording podcast live yeah okay we're gonna go live am i on the right wi-fi we'll find out good lord this lighting it's not like this lighting like tiktok live does oh is there like a filter on this hi jessica and alice um have you guys ever watch zoe 101 of course so do you know the theme song yeah i've just been listening to it on repeat like i cannot stop listening to it hi guys okay we're live on the podcast and we need you to submit questions that we will answer and how many minutes of this are we going to do just a couple we're gonna do a couple minutes of this harrison's not here because it's the live hence the live because we brought the kiddos today that didn't go well if you have kids you understand that um so we're gonna use you guys to chat with us okay we're getting some hearts but I need questions are you are you on the live no but I can get on maybe then we can read you the question hey girl hey Nat how's it going oh my god I love the pod hey bestie hey bestie hey hey guys I love Jules Jules loves you hey guys Jules is saying hi what are we talking about you hi from the Netherlands Are you guys originally from Texas or no?

30:59Tate:That's the only question so far, so I'm going to answer that. We're not. I'm from Oklahoma City. I'm actually from Edmond, Oklahoma, which is outside of Oklahoma City. And Harrison is from Vancouver. Okay, what was the hardest thing about parenthood so far? Honestly, I don't know if this is – I'm answering this on the fly, so I don't have time to think about it. But it is days like today where you just need to go to the office and record, and then you're shuffling around schedules um and we've got nap time then you've got milk and it's just it takes a lot longer to get anywhere but it's really cute like it doesn't bother me but that's probably the hardest part is you know like sometimes you want to sleep in past six no you don't get to and so it's not your schedule it's their schedule okay what did oh I like this question if you had to move somewhere other than Austin where you live right now where would you move you know we looked at nashville um because i like the vibe with kids in nashville i think there's a lot of transplants in nashville but when we went to visit it we found the city to be more spread out so not but if i had to move somewhere maybe nashville oh no i think charleston we went there and loved it i don't know there's a lot of kids in charleston though not dallas i don't know maybe I'm gonna say Nashville that was kind of our that was another one we liked but we like the vibe of we think there's a lot of young families there um CPG wise it would be good for Harrison so I'll say Nashville what about Canada yeah like Vancouver love we love Vancouver um I've always told Harrison we'd move to Vancouver if he just says the word so So Vancouver is so beautiful.

32:54Tate:The only problem with Vancouver is it rains a lot. It's very Seattle-esque. So that trips me up. But when you go there and it's beautiful, I cannot, it is breathtaking. If you've never been to Vancouver, you should add it to your list. I think it's one of the best places you should go. You guys know I'm such a big proponent of therapy. One thing I'm not a fan of though is how impossible it is to find therapists online who take your insurance. Many online therapy platforms don't work with insurance at all, which means you're stuck paying the full cost out of pocket or paying for an expensive monthly subscription.

33:28Tate:That's where Rula comes in. They partner with over 100 insurance plans, making the average copay just$15 per session. That's real therapy from licensed professionals at a price that actually makes sense. Think about it. You use your insurance benefits to maintain your physical health, so why wouldn't you do the same for your mental health? And Rula isn't just affordable. The experience is tailored around you. Other online therapy platforms might match you with the first available provider, whether they're the right fit or not. Rula considers your goals, preferences, and background to provide you a curated list of licensed in-network therapists who are actually aligned with what you need.

34:08Tate:Because they know that finding the right therapist can make all the difference. There's no wait lists, no frustrating back and forth. Rula makes it easy to find mental health providers who is accepting new patients and appointments are available as soon as tomorrow. Plus, Rula sticks with you throughout the journey, checking in to make sure that the care is helping you move forward. Go to Rula.com slash 2Parents to get started today. That's R-U-L-A.com slash 2Parents for quality therapy that's covered by insurance. Here's something I didn't know until recently. One in three Americans think they're sensitive to gluten, but only about 1 % actually have celiac disease.

34:46Tate:For everyone else, it might be something in the same foods called FODMAPs. And going gluten-free doesn't always help. That's where FODZyme comes in. FODZyme is a tasteless powder you sprinkle right into your food. It helps break down the FODMAPs and the hard-to-digest components in food that can cause occasional bloating, gas, and pain before they cause discomfort. Think of it like lactate, but for garlic, onions, wheat, beans, cheese, and other common foods with FODMAPs. It mixes into your food fast and it comes in portable packets so you can just take them with you everywhere. Just sprinkle, eat, and feel great.

35:22Tate:And here's what's really setting FODzymes apart. Every customer gets access to a free product consultation with a registered dietitian. not a chat bot not an faq page an actual dietitian who will walk you through how to use bodzheim with your specific food triggers bodzheim was created by a harvard trained scientist and has been clinically studied with bodzheim you don't just have to restrict yourself anymore you can go out eat travel and share meals with your family and friends without stressing about what's going on the menu and how you'll feel afterwards we're so excited to partner with bodzheim and offer you 30 % off your first order when you go to I can eat again.com slash two parents for 30 % off your first order.

36:08Tate:That's I can eat again.com slash two parents for 30 % off your first order. Finally, you can enjoy your favorite foods without the pain. Just go to I can eat again.com slash two parents. Um, okay. What else Jules? I'm not, we need more questions guys. Y 'all need one more baby. oh my gosh I was thinking about it when you know god willing would I want to even attempt to get pregnant again and I can't even think about it right now not anytime soon I need a second a long second um I saw a question welcome to Nashville um ow somebody says what a surprise to see you on live laying on the couch with screws in my pinky ouch has anybody read yesteryear I'm reading it right now and the screws in the pinky reminded me of that I'm not going to say anything else are you moving no we're not moving the question was where would you move if you didn't live in Austin um can't wait to hear about the barbecue we talked all about the barbecue the barbecue was a blast um oh my gosh when did you start a pod a bit ago it's called two parents in a pod potty training advice I don't know so we're gonna I don't know when we're gonna do potty training but the whole thought was either do it before Rocky gets here or wait a bit and do it after but things are going great with Rocky and Tate that I think we could just do it anyway so we'll see when we do it but I do think it's it's sooner than rather than later but i'm nervous for well not nervous for the potty training but it's an unknown i know once i do it once though like we'll be good to go so i'll keep you posted on potty training maybe after summer i don't know maybe august september someone sent in a lot of good tips and what they said was that the earlier you start the longer it takes and that was apparently a direct quote from emily oster so that they would recommend starting after two for sure because if you start now it like you maybe get the same end result but it's just going to take longer right if you start at two it will take less time what also probably makes more sense to them yeah and they said do a no pants weekend can you explain that to me they don't wear pants like no pants but do they wear a diaper no i think it's from what i've heard it's a no diaper also they're just running around naked all weekend yeah and you have to watch them 24 7 obviously and then my other question that i was thinking about potty training this weekend like are you gonna use one that goes on the toilet or like one that sits beside the toilet i gotta read all about this i think one that goes on the toilet and because the one that goes beside the toilet does that not gross you out a little bit even if it's your own kid grosses you out and like i just think if we're sitting on the toilet like she just sits on the toilet right she just like learns that's what we're doing yeah like fully yes but can you guys hear jewels oh sorry if you can't we did naked wait we did naked bottom for two to three days and then loose bottoms nothing else and then added the undies if you start now you are potty training oh darn it they can't hear you yes we can hear okay a lot of a lot of um potty training advice coming in but i can't read it all have you and harrison visited san antonio yes and we have been to a spurs game and that because that person said go to a spurs game we've been to san antonio we loved it we loved the area by the emily is that the emily or the emmy and we did go to a spurs game it was a blast will you guys ever visit boston yes we visited boston before and i love boston my the surprising thing about boston to me was it was smaller like less i thought boston was such a big city and it had such a small town feel but I love it um okay so I I just saw something that said if you potty train now they are potty training you that's what I saw okay but I couldn't read it all yeah what did that one say they are potty training you not them it's just putting you're just putting them on the potty okay they're training you not the other way around right so we should wait yeah and that's nice because you know what I don't want like another task right now necessarily so if we're supposed to wait okay so we're gonna wait to potty train till after two probably i'm gonna read a bit more about it but like we don't have an issue right now if that makes sense like we don't have a need to potty train like it ain't broke is the yeah and the need would just be to what get them out of diapers i guess well they need to be potty trained before school yeah and like i did i looked at a gymnastics camp and it was like you can't sign up unless they're potty trained like little things like that but it's not it doesn't affect our day-to-day at all in fact i think it's nice Because if you're in the car on the way to the airport and then you get to like, this happened to us one time and Harrison was like, we should potty train her.

41:02Tate:And I was like, no, because we can change her diaper when we get through security. Right. If she needs, if she's not, if she's potty trained and she needs to pee more halfway through the security line, like you have to take her to pee. Right. We have to get out of line. Right. I feel like this whole podcast is just me doxing things I did as a kid now. but like my brother played travel baseball and like the options were port-a-potties or pull-ups and like my mom had me in pull-ups way longer than i needed to be but she would put it on make me pee and then and then wait she put it on she like i wouldn't be wearing a pull-up all day i was fully potty trained at this point so she just bring pull-ups along and be like go for it we would go like behind a tree or something nori that's the kind of parenting though that i'm like down for right it's just like uh we got to make it work okay here's how we're gonna do it like i remember like i'm old and i was old enough to remember i mean i was probably three or like i don't know but i was old enough to remember that i was doing that but like what a good idea yeah honestly if you're on the run because when you have these kids like this morning i was just like we're never gonna get out the door right and and then and then of course you're i saw this meme of this dad and he's like the minute we're ready to get out the door And then his daughter's like, I have to potty.

42:17And he's like, are you kidding me?

42:21Tate:And then you need a snack and then this and then this. And so to just throw on the diaper and do it, I really understand that. I really, yeah. Hi, guys. If you're just joining, we're on the pod. We don't have Harrison because he's got the kiddos. He did come for a second, but it was time that they left. So we're taking questions from you guys. We've been talking about potty training. um always set clock 10 minutes beforehand for potty training no they're saying we used to do this in my house as well so like your clock that is on your microwave and on your um i feel like this doesn't work in today's world when we just use our phones for clocks ah you set it 10 minutes prior so you're always then as parents trying to get out the door right but does that work in today's world with phones like so i always have my clock set like three minutes early on your phone no oh because i don't know if you can set an iphone clock i feel like you can but i don't know i don't think so because have you ever noticed whenever well number one when you land it auto adjusts for you number two whenever there's daylight savings at auto right like i think apple is controlling all of our time it is but i bet you can switch it to manual okay that's i've never tried but but do you know what apple could do they could move they could they could they could rule the world give you like they could say all right we're gonna move it all up five minutes we're gonna move the whole thing up five minutes it's all subjective it truly is all subjective it's all subjective okay do we have any other questions that we want to answer or do we just samsung does the same okay i always i would always think i have 10 extra minutes if you oh i like that if you did know that your clock was set you would need somebody to like do it for you right to come over and set your clocks and not tell you do that to your friend

44:13Tate:um do it to your friend that's always late okay I'm how was the party the party was so much it was so much fun um I can't explain it to you I had I had high expectations for it and it far exceeded those far exceeded those tate and rocky were here earlier but it was so chaotic that now it's just me doing the pod my allergies are out the wall it was from yesterday i'm eating alive that's what happens when i stay in the grass all day something about the austin grass to it it gets me extra jules do we want to do a tweet of the week sure we we can hang up on the people okay we're gonna hang up on you guys and do the tweet of the week

44:58Tate:i don't know why i'm being silent it's hot in here so i'm sweating um okay we love you guys i did have to pump throughout the party that was fun so i got this pumpables thing i do want to talk about this really quickly i got this pumpables it's like a so there's portable pumps which i know those are ideal but i get them i don't use them they stretch my bras out i don't get as much milk they're harder to clean but like i'm not just i don't love them so when my friend was like get this pumpable thing it's the size of this right and that's so much better than the spectra kettlebell and so i took that to the party and i just like would go inside and pump and that was lovely so it's called pumpables if you want to look it up um and it is as strong as the spectra so there's like a little tidbit on that and okay we're gonna go do tweet of the week but what time is this gonna come out four-ish okay four-ish we'll drop the pod love you guys that's it's always so awkward i say love you and then it gives me the end now thing okay um okay great we did swim lessons are back this week all right jules what tweet of the week do you want to do i saw this thing that was if my kids want to stay up past bedtime they can pick between two things number one they can run the entire time they want to stay up like if their bedtime is eight and they want to stay up good you're jogging second one they can read the entire time so you can pick you want to jog or read i don't know i would be curious to see what parents said about this my kids aren't old enough yet to do this right in theory i love it but i need the older parents to let me know what am i missing and this is a lot of times i like to lean on the older parents and be like guys if you have older kids tell me where what are my landmines with this one and where is it good yeah because i've also seen some parents like for punishment make their kids like go outside and run a lap yeah and i don't know like i don't know what i don't know is that effective is it not effective well i just think like anything maybe we've talked about this before like anything that is actually good like running in theory is actually not in theory running is good for you right and you want your kid to like running so then to turn it into a punishment feels off to me see these are the things that i don't think of yeah and that's why that's why my parenting style has to be like ask consume read you know yeah but you're right you do want running to be a good thing something they love to do yeah or if your kid just loves running then they can stay up they can be like yeah good but 11 no problem stay up forever but somebody did say in the comments my son always chose reading and he's reading two grades above his level which is cute i would choose reading i would too and then you don't even have to like read you could just be like i'm thinking about diving into the kindle life oh really i don't want to why not i love because i love a book i love the turn i love to turn the page what no that should just is that what everyone says is that the that's what everyone says that doesn't have a kindle or hates audiobooks so i don't hate kindles no i know you know i now officially need i only have one hand at all times so i can never read my book when i'm like doing a bottle or something i think you would like a kindle i think i would too because like do you really need it in your hands no no i really don't like so and honestly like i never know what but bobber's always taking my book and taking the page out so like yeah i'm always losing my page i read on my phone which i know is bad but i read on my phone oh i hate that i know jules i hate that i know i turn on do not disturb so i don't get notifications but i'm reading on my phone i know it's bad no but i'll say this if you timed me reading a scrolling text message versus a book i would read the text message so fast yeah so in in that sense i would read a book a lot quicker yeah but

48:50Tate:so that that's a point for the phone but i but i don't love i feel like the secondhand smoke thing is the best way i can describe my relationship with the phone or somebody else is on it and I'm just like put your phone up yeah I feel like when I'm on my phone I'm not present and when I feel like I'm reading I feel so present and calm yeah so the crossover the two really gets me the newest Kindles are the same size like there are bigger ones but the newest Kindle is the same size as the iPhone no 17 pro max yeah what and so like to me I'm like why would I have two device like why do i need two devices when i can kind of solve the i just put it on do not disturb and i can ignore the rest of the phone but like but the bright i thought the kindle did a different light yeah it's not like blue light it's really bad for my eyes i'm positive of it but that's you know do you blue light glasses yeah i put the blue light glasses on and i think it helps a bit i just i do think the kindle being backlit or whatever it is is better i agree softer on the eyes yeah I had to get a new phone this weekend.

49:53Tate:Why? I dropped them. And I didn't have AppleCare. Like, you know how you get AppleCare for like the two years or whatever or however long you pay for it? So I didn't have AppleCare. It was$500 to fix my phone, which just seems like too much money to fix a three-year-old phone. Right. And so, yeah, I had to get a new phone. What'd you get? The orange. Nice. iPhone 17. I love the orange one. They were out of the orange one when I got mine. yeah um i think morgan stewart got orange okay well here's a question that makes me feel good if she has it because i i was saying like there's some places where i think it's inappropriate to bring an orange phone like you know how you can't wear it oh you can't wear an apple watch to a wedding just like imagine being in a black tie wedding with my bright orange phone no i totally don't i totally love the orange phone i feel better now that morgan stewart has i don't i'm now that i'm saying that i don't know that she does i don't know where i got maybe i made that up what was the other color there's only like orange white and uh navy blue that's what you have navy blue maybe i want the orange one like orange was the one that i wanted but she posted a i just think it's so fun but i was just thinking like imagine being an important meeting here we go no she's white um with your orange phone i love it orange edge that you can't wear an apple watch to a wedding no not in the year 2026 it's not formal enough yeah like i don't even think you can wear an aura ring to a wedding i okay i can get on board with that i feel like you would be in agreement i am in agreement with you but they do make um if you're really into your apple watch they make like these cuffs that cover them now same thing with the aura ring that cover the whole thing it's like a big old bangle aura ring i i want them i don't know what i want them to do I love the idea of it but I see people wearing these Oura rings and they never it's so distracting yeah I stopped wearing mine I don't know where I want them to wear it I don't know how I want them to do it I don't know what I want but I just I love the concept and I'm all here for it I just need a slight design tweak they make these things that go over the or like they're big which I feel like you would actually like but they're just a little ridiculously expensive at this time it's like a 300 ring to go over your 500 aura ring it just doesn't what call my name what does it look like they're cute they're really cute okay let me see um because here's my thing like can we get the can aura ring have an insert that goes into a ring you already have i think they're too big okay i'd have to find the one that i like i don't know where it is but like this is an example of one i'll text it to you we can put it on the screen oh love right it just like makes it a little bit different it's a chunky ring but that's 300 to put over your 500 or a ring like yeah wow what are we doing here wow yeah okay but like this is the concept i'm talking about right let's get some inserts that go over it yeah because that aren't 350 dollars that you can get on Amazon for 20.

53:06Tate:That's what it should be, right? Yeah. Yeah. Interesting. Okay, what else do we want to discuss? Is that it? That's really all I have. My friend Olivia has invited us over to swim because it's going to be so hot this afternoon, so we might do that.

53:23Tate:Other than that, I really felt appreciative for my mom friends this weekend when I looked down on the lawn and I just saw them all out there with their kids. And at one point I had Rocky inside and my friend Emma had Tate and I was just like, you really do need, takes the village, which is, I'm really happy to have that. So, yeah, you guys, this was a fun, short, I don't know, four day week episode. Right. That's what I feel. The vibes are four day week and then it's summer. It's officially summer. I can't believe. I feel like this first few months of the year went by so fast. Jules, I completely agree.

54:01It could still be January.

54:03Tate:I know. I know. And the fact that it's almost June, like what happened? It kind of makes me feel sick. I know. And I'm like, it's going to be December before we know it. It's crazy. But that's because we're busy, I guess. All right. We love you guys. Happy four day week. We'll talk to you Thursday. 54:36Tate:New episodes Mondays and Thursdays.

From the publisher

This week on Two Parents & A Podcast, it's what we call a quick "chit chat" episode to start off your 4-day work week :-) Harrison joins us for all of about a minute before we sent him home with the kids… but NOT BEFORE Tate said "hello" to the pod listeners (guys, she was so proud of herself for using the mic).

We start with our MDW block party recap. We had 200+ people show up, the dunk tank was the unexpected MVP, and Harrison flipped 200+ burgers/dogs (because the man does everything 200%). OH — and it wouldn't be a block party in Austin if a Waymo didn't get confused and stuck on our street for like 15 minutes (hahahha). We also get into our actual TIPS on how to throw your own block party because it's so much easier than you think (even though it was a big “get out of your comfort zone” moment for us).

Then we get into a little pop culture: the ESPN announcer who refused to say Taylor Swift's name during the Cavs game (?? still confused why), Jessica Simpson didn't even NEED to make a comeback (you guys… her net worth is $200M vs. Hilary Duff's $20M, which completely flipped our opinion from last ep), and we covered her response to the Nick Lachey flight situation (her mom bought the first class tickets… mystery solved!).

Then we continue our new ongoing debate over crown vs. crayon (10% of you actually say crown!!), which spirals us into a whole conversation about regional dialects (the NYT Dialect Quiz, the Cleveland "tree lawn", and Alex saying "sea-ment" instead of "cement"). Oh and apparently Jules made a VIRAL BuzzFeed quiz back in the day that had millions of hits (which Halo Top flavor are you?! Guys please take this and lmk in the comments - https://www.buzzfeed.com/minichjg/can-we-guess-your-go-to-halo-top-flavor-with-six-q-37u2u).

Plus, because Harrison left with the kids and we had time on our hands, we went TIKTOK LIVE with you guys to do a Q&A for the first time!!! We got into so many random questions in real time: moving, potty training, the hardest part of parenthood, the Pumpables pump that has changed my life, and so much more.

Then we end with two important (read facetiously) questions: should you let your kid stay up past bedtime if they're reading? (The "run or read" bedtime hack that's getting a lot of buzz online.) AND… is it socially acceptable to bring Jules's new ORANGE iPhone 17 Pro Max to a black tie wedding?! (We think yes, because Morgan Stewart said so.)

OK hope you guys had fun — WE DID!

LOVE YOU GUYS!
