In short

The episode mixes parenting updates (Bubber’s communication, story time, hiring a nanny), relationship “fairness” banter about gifts, and a “bicker of the week” debating whether listening to audiobooks counts as reading. It also includes food/product talk (a new Flock chicken stick taste test) and TV recaps (heated rivalry/fangirl culture around a show’s episodes).

Guest backgrounds

No guests appear in the transcript; it’s hosted by the two parents (Harrison and Jules/Alex referenced as co-hosts). A “neighbor girl” is mentioned as someone they may text, but she does not appear.

Key claims

  • Audiobooks should be distinguished from reading; “read” implies eyes, “listened” implies ears.
  • “Nesting” for men often looks like organizing/cleaning projects (e.g., cabinets, baseboards, cleaning cabinet).
  • Apple Watch use is justified for workouts and call answering; constant photo changes (Bubber) are a major perk.
  • The “Mean Moms” book is entertaining but raises defamation/misrepresentation concerns.

Notable examples

  • Bubber points, signs, and claps when she gets “more cheese” correctly.
  • Story time: toddlers run around and try to eat the crowns.
  • Flock chicken stick: “fresh,” no casing, tastes like shredded seasoned chicken breast; sold on Amazon and flockfoods.com.

Bring it on? Yeah. You know, that was an all-time favorite of mine for probably a two-year period.

1:14I'll always love Gabrielle Union because of that. She was phenomenal. She was unbelievable. The Clovers? Loved The Clovers. And then who was her rival? Kirsten Dunst. She was also phenomenal. Kind of a P doppelganger. I think both of them nailed their respective roles. I just want to say before we get rolling We did get a direct message To my personal account here Love the pod Cannot handle Harrison's breathing So just try to reel that in I also Separate the mic Producers know I think it's something to do with different headphones Okay you know what So I need to DM her back and just say check your headphones But that's also That's on us maybe And Harrison's breathing he pushed his mic down a bit so there you go that should help all right ready yes welcome back to another episode of two parents and a podcast happy thursday or whenever you listen to this harrison has his square toe Ariat, Ariat, ostrich house slippers on, which one of our friends, Nikki, posted when we were out with them on, we were like watching football, and Harrison had his square toe ostrich Ariat boots on at the bar.

2:36And she made a video of them and said, are these boots or are they slippers? And then she texted me and said, I'm getting a lot of requests for the link. So I sent it to her. I ordered some black snakeskin ones. Are they still square toe? Yeah. I mean, you're killing me with the square toe. It's really funny. They're just the perfect combination of comfort meets functionality. They're a Birkenstock. Oh, they're so not. Well, they're not. They're so not. The functionality of them is that of a Birkenstock. You slide your foot in it. You've got a closed toe situation. It serves as a Birkenstock. But they look as a shoe from the front.

3:16Business in the front, party in the back. Yeah, it does. It looks like a square toe boot. Like a mullet. And then it does look like a mullet. It is the mullet of shoes. I've just, I've fallen in love with Cavenders, the store. You sure have. You're a Cavenders guy. These are a Cavenders purchase. So let's just do an outfit check on you. If you're listening on audio, I'll paint the picture for you. Square toe ostrich slippers. Carhartt pants, which I got them for Christmas. They're the Carhartt cargo pants, which I recommend you buy for your significant other. because they're both artsy, functional, a little hipster, but also very cool.

3:52And then he has a camo, long sleeve, waffled shirt on. You are fully in Texas today, I would say. I would call this Texas. I would call this Texas swag. Committed to my city. Committed to the bit. I do want to talk about my hair for a moment. I think that's great. We should just keep going up the body. Because I have a question about the hair. Okay. Ask us. I'm not going to ask how it looks because I know it looks puffy. But the reason why it looks puffy is because I have a haircut after this. Okay. Okay. I've now, I've found my barber. We have recurring monthly haircuts. It's important work. Tuesday, the first Tuesday every month, 4 p.m.

4:34And I've been booking them a month out every time. It's been amazing. It's great. But I've noticed when I go in there and I product in my hair, it's a tougher cut for him. so are you supposed to wash your hair before you go to the barber so this is a very polarizing topic for the ladies as well so i i don't listen i think it's probably easier on the barber if you don't wash your hair i've never thought about this from a guy's perspective but if they're not washing your hair before they cut it you do want the best cut possible so i think going in with it untouched as you are is really smart sorry he cuts it dry or what he cuts it dry so at a barber shop they don't wash your hair first so i think it's smart to go with no product go in and so like they'll be fighting with yeah that's why i'm not wearing a hat today either yeah so i just feel like like where the problem becomes though is i've been doing these 4 p.m time slots and so that means I'm running all day naked.

5:33True. Naked in theory. Your hair is naked because you're a gel guy. Are you gel or hairspray? I'm all, like, that's the other thing is I need to, I use whatever I can find right now. I need to, I went, I re-bought product in Vancouver, forgot it all in Vancouver. No, no, no. And so now I need to go re-buy product. By re-buy product or by find whatever product he can, he means my hair no i bought two new things whose hairspray do you use only because i lost my things i don't want to use hairspray i i can't i really don't like using hairspray in my hair and you but you are a you like a clay what is that like a paste a paste yes so i attempted this as a stocking stuffer but i failed so now i have two hair sticks because i got him kind of a slick stick situation that girls use it wasn't right he needs a paste a molding paste i need to be able to really run my hands through the hair and I also I don't want to say you should do more that I'm going more I like yours more back well I ask you all the time for feedback I want to hear it but I it's interesting hold on I would like to stick my gum to the top of my mouth and just get a little release of flavor but not be smacking it I trust you fully like sometimes we'll be getting dressed and Harrison will come in and he'll be like hey do you like this and I I just want to say to you, I trust you more than me.

6:57Like, you got it. I got a zig. Do you know I can't chew gum without swallowing it? Did I know that you can't? Yeah. I know that I've never really seen you chew gum. Yeah, because I do three bites and I need to swallow it. Why is that? I love swallowing gum. They say it takes seven years to digest. I hear it's terrible for you. I don't know. That's why I don't chew gum. but i like i love like i enjoy the process of swallowing it more than i do chewing it really but then you lose all the flavor i like power chew through the flavor and then i swallow no gum gum has come a long way and like the old school gum the bubblicious and all that it didn't have a lot of flavor that lasted but these extra strips and wrigley's or whatever we got today they'll truly give you 30 minutes of flavor you give me five bites of a bubblicious and a swallow and I'm a happy man.

7:49What about hard candy? Do you chew hard candy? Yeah, I try to break it right away. Same. I'm not like a suck and then break it. I'm eating a lollipop like a candy bar. Oh, it's so bad for your teeth. I don't know what that says about me. I just can't figure how gum takes seven years to break down, but, you know, a Starburst doesn't. Maybe we can start a new segment on urban myths because that's got to be an urban myth. I would think gum digests within a week. I also just can't believe how different the candy is in Canada than the candy here. It doesn't make sense that all of our marquee chocolate bars and marquee chip flavors are different than the ones here.

8:29I'm learning it's a big regulation issue. That isn't. I was just trying to provide an answer. No. No, no, no. I think Jules has a gum answer. Were you guys aware that Canada rocks a totally different candy and chip section? Just from you guys. The Smarties, the all-dressed chips. Yeah, like we have O 'Henry's instead of Snickers. All-dressed chips are ketchup chips. Smarties are our version of M &M's. Do you also have M &M's? We have caramel, which is chocolate and caramel. Yeah, yum. Caramel. Do you have the gum? It says swallowed gum doesn't digest but passes through the system taking about 24 to 72 hours.

9:12No problem. That's no problem for me debunking the myth that it stays in there for years yeah it just wouldn't make sense it's just no issue if it passes your system would be clogged if you were so much eating gum maybe i'll go back to eating gum it's just crazy if it's no like if you can easily purchase it off the counter over the counter if you can buy it at a store it i would assume it can't take seven years to digest did did you get wind of the feel-good drink the mini it's the size of a five-hour energy it's blue and it says feel good yes yes and no did you get wind of how addictive those were for people so i got wind of how big of a business it became i believe that because they were highly addictive and i never tried it but then to my understanding it also got kicked off taken off the shelves because of kratom it was kratom okay it needs to be taken off the shelf the videos I saw were it I saw one guy make a video and he was like I'm just making this to spread awareness but I was in the gas station today and I saw a guy run in and they were out of feel-good and he was almost like tweaking out I think those feel-good drinks were highly addictive I think that people yeah highly addictive I just think that's where it ends like it was it did something to people that they were like obsessed with it yeah I mean this probably should be more on on my radar than it is but we don't we don't play in any of those gray areas because it feels like um more like when you launch these products you kind of have a good run and often you just deal with a whirlwind of uh trouble after a period of time which we don't want to i think they had to know it was addictive and then and i think that's messed up i think it's messed up when a company does that i think everyone has their own reasons but i think often it's a it's a calculated risk that you're willing to take or not or not okay who knows maybe there's something else that had them going we're getting ready for baby boy coming this april you guys and i'm already stocking up with so many magnetic me out but it's just like i did with tate because you use them once and then you understand these things are the best magnetic me they are amazing for the newborn face because changing a newborn, as I always say, is like changing a cat.

11:40And let me tell you what, you are changing newborns constantly. I can't imagine not having Magnetic Me. Their magnetic closures make dressing time quick and easy. You seriously need these for your little ones, you guys. The fabric is amazing. The prints are so cute. And the magnet closures, you will want to get rid of all the zippers, all the buttons, because magnets are the way to go. After using magnetic me, it's so hard to go back to clothes that have the zippers or the buttons because the magnetic closures take a fraction of the time. And I'm telling you, time is king, especially when you are in the newborn phase.

12:17So make changing time easier for you and your little one order magnetic me today. These also make such a great gift for any parent. My friend Sarah gave me my first pair of Magnetic Me pajamas when I was pregnant with Tate. And now I give them as a gift to everyone because they are such a treat to have. New customers get 15 % off your first order when you go to magneticme.com. Don't wait. Order today at magneticme.com. So I feel as though it would only be a fair podcast because I think that this podcast, one of its pillars is fairness. Okay. It's only fair that, you know, when I don't like some of my gifts, you report on it.

12:55and I'm wearing your Christmas gift that I got you today. Well, that's my question. And it's a genuine question. Do you buy me gifts very much thinking, okay, I'm going to get him this so I can wear it? No. Okay. No. But we know that's a thing. That's totally a thing. Yeah. So I got you four items of clothing for Christmas. Yes. One turns out I can wear, but the other three I can't wear. And I really like that. So the other item that I got you, though, is this jean jacket with patches on it, which Harrison has reported to me he wants to return. Yesterday. I waited a couple weeks. Waited a couple weeks because it says Elwood all over it.

13:45You want to return that? I took that in stride. I took the feedback in stride. I just said, no problem. I actually said on that note, I'd like to return what you got me. I think that nine out of ten gifts that I've gotten you, you've probably returned. So I felt for the first time safe enough to express my intent to return. I'm not a label guy. I don't like having the brand name of what I'm wearing on me. And so I thought that jacket was really cool, but the brand was pastured everywhere. Now, there's a brand called Schaefer, which I've really started to like. And Schaefer has this awesome jean jacket, and the inside lining is like this Hudson's Bay Company design.

14:41And it was just kind of like, if I buy the Schaefer one, I'm probably going to wear this piece as like a go-to piece for the next six months. if I keep the all would one, I'll probably wear it at some point in the next week to make you happy. And then I'll probably never wear it again, but also keep it in my closet. So that way I, you know, don't hurt your feelings. So what would you rather me do? And I'll do it. This is my argument back to you though. When you set the standard. I'm thrilled for it. When you said you want to return it, what is it? Great. Nope. No problem. But what did I do differently than you do?

15:20waited a couple weeks I waited I waited I didn't want to suck the air out of the room we also told me you wanted to actually you actually wanted to return three of the four items that I got you but then you put on the car heart pants and you've now you've now changed to liking them but I don't mind if you want to return pants right away they're just they're one size too small I have so much fun shopping for you like I truly you're you are more fun to shop more than I am i had so much fun shopping i couldn't stop you did a great job you did a really good job but i'm okay that you didn't like it um second thing i would like to discuss harrison i wanted to discuss this too he's dialing in his electronics to my dismay or maybe not he's gotten the new apple watch which means notifications now come up on no they don't the laptop i turned all them off the watch but i get i pictures of bubber and they change every time the pictures of every time i flip my wrist there's a new photo of bubber okay if you're not using it for if you're not using it for notifications why are you using it so i find that you can't use it you need to turn notifications off or if not you're just looking at your phone all day um i the reason why i re-bought it was because i want to use it for working out like i love turning it on during my workouts and then i like thought there'd be a whole bunch of new functions because i the old the one i had before was like one of the first generations i will say there isn't really a lot of new going on like you can answer phone calls from it but like that it's a really bad experience but you did it the other day but here's um what i'm hoping i can do is go for walks and leave my phone at home and have the the headphones connect to the spotify and listen to podcasts that's a nice function but i haven't figured out that functionality yet so i i kind of I had like a, I definitely don't want to say an Apple watch was an ick because it wasn't, but I didn't prefer an Apple watch.

17:18I think you've said it was an ick before. I think that that could be something I did say. That's why I wanted to ask what you think about it. And I, then I met you who I had the biggest crush on instantly who had an Apple watch and you had all these other features about you that I just loved so much that I was like, I actually learned to like the Apple watch. so then this one came in the mail and Harrison said I got something that you're not gonna like and he pulled it out and it was an Apple watch and I made a joke on my close friend's story I was like oh I'm so glad he got another Apple watch but you know what I've learned to love it about you thank you like you also carry your air pods in a case with sometimes keys attached to them which is so just dad of you, but you got to know you.

18:03Like it's so you to have all these things. But this is the case is, is just so we can differentiate between you and me. But you used to have your apartment key on it. Yes. In New York. One of my favorite things that I've ever done. No, because if you, you lose your airpods. I never lost it. At that time, I'd never lost my airpods. Another thing that Harrison does, Harrison's a consumer. I also always said, But wallets on the back of iPhones, another ick. Love it about you. But I feel dialed again for the first time. Like I feel like I made all these changes. I like stopped using the wallet. I turned and now like everything is back and I feel super organized.

18:43And this holds me accountable. Like it holds me accountable. And I've had a good two weeks of health. So here's what I think the lesson is. Why did the app, why was the Apple watch an ick? I have no idea. I couldn't possibly verbalize it to you as to why. Because it's kind of geeky. And why did the wallet on the back of a phone ever bother me? But now I look at you. It's so practical. You're dialed in. You love it. And I like that you don't conform to what's cool. You just like do your thing. You don't have like a cool leather wallet because like you don't want another item. You just have your – I love it about you.

19:19But part of that is I had a cool leather wallet. I remember the first cool leather wallet I bought. I still have it. And then I realized it's not as functional as this current setup. But I love that about you. You just said, I'm going to do what's functional. Yeah, committed to the dad life. Honey, you had all this way before dad life. Committed to the entrepreneur life. No, you had this in prime single Harrison days. You were showing up with your wallet attached to the back of the phone. I think it's the best thing ever. Unapologetically yourself. Yeah. That's what we'll call it. So good for you.

19:54And I tried the other ways. I mean, you convinced me to, and it just, I'm happy with this. No, no, I, and do you know what? Do you know what else? I'm happy with you with this. Thank you. I, the biggest kick I get out of the Apple Watch is number one, you're answering more phone calls, because I don't think a lot of times you know where your phone is. Number two, the constant Bubber photos. The Bubber ones are hilarious. The Bubber ones are fabulous. This is her clapping on your birthday. See if the people can see it. Did you get to pick the images? No. Somehow the setting just kind of auto went And it's auto went to Bubber It knows me too well So Bubber let's just do a quick Bubber update Bubber is Just She's in a really cute phase Where She's as active as ever She can't talk in sentences Obviously lots of pointing Is happening at home Lots of agua lots of Sign languaging for more Oftentimes with cheese I have a huge observation on this what she's learning stairs since the Dr.

20:55Brown episode what so what I what really landed with me from the Dr. Brown episode was you know what she really spoke to was like how much Tate understands and I think ahead of that I didn't really I didn't comprehend how much she was comprehending and I've really taken upon myself to like go into deeper communication with her and i've been blown away like clearly at how much she understands what we're saying and how much stronger her communication skills are than i realized does that make sense it totally does but you have to know like when she's pointing she actually is pointing at something let's go try to figure out what it is or um if you show her something once she can repeat it back to you like I I totally agree with what you're saying and the other thing that I took away from the Dr.

21:55Brown episode was just like the confidence she gets if you get it right so she's trying to signal to you the other day she was doing more but she had four things on her plate but I happened to what I just happened to see the item she had just eaten was the cheese so i was like she wants more cheese so i got her more cheese and she immediately starts clapping because it's like she gets confidence that she's communicating the right way totally totally yeah i i i um it means you have to watch more though yeah looking at it from this new person from like the the added layer of focus like she she has a lot yeah she's a lot more clued into what's going on than i'd realized so the neighbor girl and I took Winnie and Tate to story time on Saturday it like story time remember we took Tate when she was like six months old when she had to hold her story time now is so much fun with them because all the kids that were at story time were about their age and none of them can really listen to all the stories because their attention span just goes out the windows they start running around to each other but they were all trying to eat the crowns they were throwing on the crowns they were just running around the store like it was the cutest thing ever so if you have a kid around tate's age and you haven't been to story time yet one thing i would suggest look up story time maria has sent us a link for gymnastics to start gymnastics oh my god bubber doing gymnastics yeah she was like winnie and tate should do gymnastics if you guys want to take her and i was like we want to take her music class like it's time because she really can understand these things yeah and this stuff just creeps up on you totally but it's nice to have so another thing I'm gonna say one of my friends who's having a baby but it's their first baby she was starting to interview nannies and she said do you have any tips of questions I should ask and I said let me think about that and get back to you and then I got back to her and I said one thing that was really important to me with Maria and the neighbors with Maria was leaning leaning on her for cues, developmental cues.

24:04So one area where I was like, I'm not going to know a lot, but I'm very interested in, and I want to learn, and I want you to teach us is the way they develop, what's good for them. You know, like how Maria teaches them sign language. She teaches them Spanish and English. And so I said, you know, you should ask, some people want somebody that's just really nurturing. I wanted nurturing, but I also wanted somebody that understood the milestones as they were coming and how to help them developmentally. And I think that's one area where Maria had a ton of expertise because she had worked in early childhood education.

24:40She had ran a school and she had worked at a daycare. So like she was just very well qualified. But I do think if you're going to hire somebody, that could be, you could decide. That's what means important to you or not important to you. But to us, it was really important. And it's an area where Maria has now said, like it's important to get them out of the house and interact with other kids. like we're at that stage and so I think that's really valuable yeah I think we got very lucky with her and I think you know one of the added nice things there is like I think she genuinely likes to teach them she loves to teach them she's interested in education though yeah so that's but that's what I'm saying if it's something that if you're if you're looking into child care you could say, I want somebody who's just like mama bear energy who, and maybe you, you take on the burden of the development, or you could say, I want, I want this to be an area where you come and tell us.

I'm going to do just a hard U-turn here because we didn't talk about heated rivalry. When you said that you were a fair podcast, I thought that that's what you were. Jules wanted us to circle we had said on last Thursday's episode we weren't like loving it I think the direct quote was it wasn't that good that was the direct quote I do believe it wasn't that good those commentary made halfway through episode one halfway through episode one at 1am so then what happened that night we went home and finished the season because it was so good we could not stop watching it I think two days.

27:47I think it was two days for us. No, it wasn't. There's no way we did it on one night. I think it was two days, but it was before that episode came out. Okay, so it was Wednesday and Thursday. Yeah. Yeah, because I remember you had us go to bed. Tuesday, Wednesday. After the phenomenal, my far and away favorite episode. Oh, episode four. Episode four. Episode four. No, episode five. Episode four was our favorite ending. I thought that. I thought that... No, episode five. When Scott and Kip... That's episode five. Okay. No, I thought that he came down. That's episode five. You got a true historian on the pod.

28:27So what happened in episode four? I do think we should not argue with Jules on this one. I texted you on episode four. Five. No, I... I thought I texted you... I'm just gonna... I can... What happened in episode four that I liked?

28:44Yeah, I'll give my full synopsis. One, just a very powerful storyline that I think is super important to be told. And I think when you look at the reactions that the writer has come out and said he's been getting, I think it's very, very reflective of that. and so it's like I think it's the perfect combo when you have a powerful story and it's also entertaining right so you get like that perfect that perfect one-two punch and I liked the dual storylines I liked that there was two I didn't see that coming yes I so now let's should we dive into the analysis sure okay so my favorite storyline was the new york got the new york player scott and the smoothie guy yeah but as jules says that's because we are basic and like traditional love stories and i'll take that i guess we're basic uh i wanted i wanted more i wanted more of that I wanted like to see you know the long distance and him at art school and here's what I want to say to the listener though because I got a lot of DMs when I posted that we were watching it and then I got a lot of DMs when I posted that we loved it saying like did Harrison watch it with you he watched it with me he absolutely loved it the only thing is on the first two episodes as Jewel said they did a minute by minute analysis it's 30 % sex so just know that with your partner tell them that but the storylines are phenomenal.

30:27Yeah. Just that. There's your caveat. All time TV moment. One, two punch when he came down. No, no, no. Don't, but don't because now you're listening. We're doing spoilers. No, P hasn't heard it yet. Watch it yet. Okay. Just if you have watched it, the all time moment is when he came down. You get it? Yep. Okay. I thought this followed by the speech. I thought I just is perfect. My response to that is like, I've watched that last episode. I would say 15 plus times. episode six yeah i've watched the speech twice i don't understand i thought episode five was so much better than episode six why is she watching it 15 times i'm obsessed anything 15 times i'm a woman possessed okay she loves it what did you like more about episode six and episode five oh just the character like i just can't even explain to you guys like i've never heard her like this do you know like cottages in canada are a thing by the way wait what cottages i'm i'm just saying like i'm sad that whole like cottage come to my cottage cottage that is a thing cottage culture yeah we are big cottage culture people in canada well on the east coast not on the west coast west coast we're capping people alex being like i've never heard her be like this before like i don't i don't i would say the part of like heated rivalry that the people that are watching now that don't get it's like the people that were watching since november that's like the fangirls like this show is like peak fangirl culture like the harry styles fans jonas brothers fans taylor swift fans why like one direction fans like we are just you're just in it okay where'd that come from the book um i like hockey wrote like i listen to and read i read whatever vicar of the week i read hockey romance and so like i'm i was just in on this before it even came out this is just niched up perfectly for jewels but it was this type of content explain why episode six over episode five had a monumental moment.

32:41I don't care about Kip and Scott in the slightest. Her storyline is not those two. I do not care about Kip and Scott. I don't care less. Look, I thought that that's like, by the way, I thought that there was going to be an affair. I thought that's how, I thought the way it was trending was that the Russian dude and Scott were going to be secretly having had an affair the whole time. Oh, I thought there was going to be some version of overlap. So I like when we went back and it all came together like that in episode five, that was a big win.

33:19But I think, yeah, I thought that episode six, it was lackluster compared to five. Well, yeah. Different strokes, I guess. But I guess I was waiting for what happened to happen all of episode six. and I didn't think what would happen in episode five would happen. I agree. Okay. Like I was shot, like episode five surprised me, and episode six didn't. Let's do our bicker of the week on the back of this. Okay. Let's insert it where it deserves to be inserted because – Jules, do you want to tee it up? She doesn't because she can't be seen in the clip. So she wants us to do it, I believe. Yeah. Okay.

33:57So Jules is a – it comes from Jules being an audiobook listener. Now, the bicker of the week is if you listen to a book on audio, does it count as having read the book or do you need to say in a sentence, I've listened to that book? I think it's a completely different consumption behavior and it needs to clarify. I think you need to clarify, hey, I listened to this book. I listened to 12 books last year versus I read 12 books last year. It's very different. I'm not saying that one is better than the other, but I'm saying like saying that you read when you listened is misleading. Do you know how this came up, Alex?

34:35No, how? Because I told Harrison I read 90 books last year and he was like, you read 90 books last year. And you listened to 90 books. Which is amazing. I read 90 books. You listened to 90 books. I read 90 books. But how many of them were audio books? 90. Yeah. Okay. So, okay. Here's my other thing, though. I think if you. But where do you stand on it? Well, if you got the contents of the book, if you know what happens in the book, technically, I think you've read the book. No, because you listen to it. Reading is using your eyes. Listening is using your ears. I think it's the equivalent, though, of saying I saw that on the news when you saw a clip on TikTok.

35:15It is a bit like. It's like saying I read the newspaper when you watched when you watched a TikTok. I just think people are getting too hung up on like the verb, like to read. Like because to read is to listen. But how come people can accept like I flew from Austin to Cleveland, but like I wasn't out there flapping my wings from Austin to Cleveland. It's a flight. I sat on a plane and the plane flew from Austin to Cleveland, but they can't get over that. But it's like saying you drove. like you got to Cleveland but the method of which you got to Cleveland is different than what you're stating and to be clear I'm not saying like one is worse than the other it's just different taking a flight versus driving they're both great means of transportation but they're different means of transportation I think well doesn't reading take a lot longer if you were to actually read the book I do think that a delineation is time like could you have physically read with your eyes 90 hardback books last year um no i'd back no i don't read that's a waste of time but so i'm with you i i much prefer listening over over reading so i'm in this camp which i think is really important context like i am a listener i'm a book listener and so when i said i don't read books on the last episode i listened to books i don't read books jules oh i'm a physical reader it's not like I'm a physical reader shaming a listener.

36:49I'm a listener. You're an ally. Owning the listen. I don't know. I just think, I don't know. I'm a reader. You're a listener. Okay. And I think listening is more productive. You can walk. You can clean. You can cook. Oh, but there's something about holding a book. I'm a physical reader. I've never listened to an audio book in my life. I wish I was a physical reader. I can't. You know my ADD just doesn't lend for that. I tried to listen to Green Lights by Matthew McConaughey because he reads it and I love his voice so much. But I could not and I had to physically read it. And you read it. And I read it.

37:35I did a flip there. I was trying for the sake of bicker of the week to not be on Harrison's side there. However, I do think, Jules, we need the delineation of if you've read or I listened to that. Let's ask neighbor girl. She reads and listens in the middle of the night. Okay, can we text her? Yeah. Okay. Let's ask her what she thinks. I trust neighbor girl. Yeah, well, let's ask her what her thought is. A moment to send the text message. Yeah, they're different classes. Okay, so... No, she hasn't replied. That was just me taking this opportunity for a quick little... Scroll, put your phone up.

38:11No, I'm just doing a quick email. No, H, you're going to lose phone privileges. So speaking of reading versus listening, I'm reading a book right now. And typically, I only read memoirs. Somebody asked me actually on my questions box today, if you could read a book for the first time ever and never have read it, what would it be? It's Shoe Dog. Just like is my favorite book of all time. I've never read it or listened. Oh. well in that case i actually think in that sentence you could say i've read it and we could all move on that's what i'm saying that's all i'm saying yeah i think that's good oh i listen to that yeah okay either way either way you under you know the book you've consumed the book that one i think is better read than listened to i would guess in what world every page all you just you turn the page and there was like more words it was so good but anyways i'm reading this book called mean moms okay i i cannot handle the phone so i am a notorious memoir only i hate anything fictional xyz but this is a mystery book it's actually a satirical mystery book a satirical thriller a satirical thriller so it's based on real moms like influencers upper east side moms but the the author gives them all aliases but the aliases she gives them for example there's a girl in the book named bell her real name in real life she's the founder of hill house is nell okay ava is eva and i'm and i and i didn't know going into it i knew nell and bell okay but I did not know Ava slash Eva so I'm reading it and it says in the book Ava she's the head of fashion at Pinterest and I'm like well Eva Chin is the head of fashion at Instagram so I google it and I'm like is Ava in the book based on Eva Chin Google's like yes it is and I and she's divulging like last night in last last night's chapter she calls one of them a klepto a broke club like She's making these crazy claims.

40:24This to me feels like a massive lawsuit waiting to happen. So while it's a phenomenal 10 out of 10 read, like every page is just full. Assuming she's not honestly representing the characters. So Nell, for example, she's like. Like if there's any misrepresentation going on. I would have. Which proving Selman is a klepto if they haven't been caught stealing and you're publicly making that accusation and stating it as fact feels like that's something that gets very costly. So what I want to say is I love the book. It's a really good read. Yeah. But then I think about it on a human level. Yeah, I'm very confused.

41:10Well, I think about it on a human level and these characters are just like moms that send their kids to a very affluent school. you know one just kissed the headmaster last night's chapter i mean like there's some stuff happening and it's like are those rumors are they stretches of the truth sometimes she goes inside their head and is like you know she's thinking xyz about their husband like that's all hearsay like it's all subjective so it's tough that these characters that their names are just one letter apart from their real people have any of these people taken legal action i tried to google it to see if they have from what i could tell no so i i did google though to see if they can yeah and like it essentially says if you can clearly identify the person as a real person and they're depicted as doing something wrong like being a klepto or kiss i don't know i guess kissing a headmaster that's not wrong um but if it's infidelity yeah it it it isn't confirmed to happened that it's called fictional defamation and you can see yeah i just think like while i'm recommending the book from like a fiction perspective right like just a juicy storyline okay especially like they're in tribeca on harrison street which is like where we used to live jules do i read podcasts no but did i like read the all in this week i have something to say though i'm actually curious I was fighting with my friends on this this weekend, and they said that listening to an audiobook is closer to listening to a podcast than reading a book.

42:56It is. I don't agree. I agree. That's why I went there. I don't agree in the slightest. Because I was thinking, I was like, this is where my brain just went. I was like, okay, Alex is reading this book. It sounds really exciting. And I was like, hmm, should I start reading a book? I'm like, I don't know. I kind of like my podcast mix. Like I'm still only 15 % the way through all ends 2026 predictions. And then I was like, oh, well, I guess podcasts are kind of my books. And especially if I'm listening to them. But here's the thing. So I didn't mean to say that. I don't know. Like I'm an auditory.

43:28There's different like processing. There's visual processors, auditory processors. Like I'm like seeing the words on the page when I'm listening to the book. a podcast like a conversation you guys are talking we're talking right now i'm not listening to a book right now even if when i listened to the episode back i was happy to see that the podcasts had a spot at the golden globes yeah i was thrilled to see that now what i didn't think about though was amy poehler is that her name was up against her ex-husband in smartless yeah And that's funny Amy won And I didn't realize All the shows They were chosen from You had to be a top 25 show On Spotify I think eventually Where we'll get Is like podcast awards Yeah I was Which I think is really cool I didn't know that That podcast existed Oh no It's a cool podcast Amy Poehler's People really like it I think it like just started Though this year or something And why wasn't Rogan nominated When he like His views are exponentially higher than everyone else who was who was nominated well well like why wasn't jay shetty you know like i i was thinking some of these things too yeah well i wasn't i don't know does jay shetty's podcast big i have no clue i would think it's it's the number one mental health podcast podcast in the world as he says but i don't know i don't know and like they're all the shows that were nominated were interview shows and like the two we just talked about were interview shows so it was mel robbins it was caller daddy it was smartless it was amy polar and it was armchair yeah with dax shepherd npr yes and the npr one um i thought armchair was gonna win i don't know why i've never even listened to it i just thought it would win they put up a poll like before it was out and amy polar's was like favored at like 62 or something like that people are loving it is funny like people are loving her podcast they're like loving the way i guess apparently the the tiktok i saw on it was like she doesn't ask she gets really good guests and then asks them like really juicy non-traditional questions and she like she's hilarious like yeah i just my only um like what comes to mind with her is parks and rec and and And she made me laugh for very long periods of time.

That's hungryroot.com slash two parents code two parents to get 40 % off your first box and a free item of your choice for life okay Harrison what's going on flock I would like a work update because we have a new product to taste do we only have one stick nope there's one right by you well okay tell the class about the new product you tell the class about the new product please okay we've got a chicken stick with seven grams of protein if you're not on audio it's the size oh my god exactly sorry for my burping the size the length of an iphone an iphone um pro max like the big one so this is a nice size chicken stick and we're gonna give it a taste test i have to remove my gum yeah well you know obviously i love beef sticks and beef anything the um the world loves well america loves beef sticks yeah and um i hadn't tasted a chicken stick that i enjoyed in eating and so we worked on this for uh north of like a year whoa yeah because like getting the um getting the right flavor composition the right texture the right softness was very very hard so texture is going to be the thing i'm the toughest critic on this about because what I don't like when I bite into chicken sticks or beef sticks is it often feels like there's a casing around that I have to bite through and often they're dry yes the chicken ones the poultry ones they feel a little processed for me okay let's hear it so I'm looking for fresh and I'm looking for what's that word for like you can bite all the way through and you don't feel like you broke skin I don't have the word

49:29he did not like that noise the person that doesn't like the breathing is gonna love the chewing

49:38okay i gotta give it to you let's hear it tastes the number one note that i'm getting is it tastes extremely fresh thank you it tastes like it actually looks extremely fresh and the texture the chewiness is a tin there's no casing around it this one to me i'm actually impressed it's just it's a commercial product like normal flock fried chicken skin very polarizing some people love it some people doesn't land with. Versus like this, like if you like beef sticks, I think you're going to add this. Why is this bursting with flavor? Yeah, it's incredible. No, I'm actually surprised. We had a lot of bad samples to get here.

50:34This is exceptional. Yeah. It doesn't taste processed at all. It tastes like I just shredded a chicken breast. And seasoned. and super seasoned no thank you what kind of seasoning do we have on here garlic rosemary paprika let me just read to you

50:54i've got gum in mine now so i can't quite get there um garlic onion rosemary that was very good call-outs i glanced at it before okay i mean are you kidding me one thing i can't do I was like stunned. I was impressed. I did do a glance earlier so I was able to call them out. But like I do think people should try this because a lot of chicken sticks have like you got to bite through the thing and they have a little processed taste. It's very fresh. I gave it to Bubba this morning and she loved it. Really? Yeah. Because so like beef sticks. Have you given Winnie one? No. Not yet. Beef sticks like kids love.

51:32So that's part of why beef sticks have grown as big as they have is because they're eaten by both kids and parents. And so we're happy to have a chicken alternib. I'm going to eat a lot of these. Mm-hmm. Really, where do we get them? Right now, just Amazon and flockfoods.com.

51:54But we should have a good, exciting retail announcement soon. Can you give us a hat? No. Cool. we will press no less okay hold on clean high protein thank you for trying filling here's what I want to say about it I think listen I don't want to rank your children but this jumps to the top this is my favorite flock item for sure no question and the second for me is the Benihana flavor those have become a staple in our pantry now speaking of our pantry I have been in a nesting mode which I didn't nest with Tate and the reason I never nested with Tate was we had just moved to Austin with like a month and a half left until she got there we were renting the house I couldn't like fully I could paint the walls like I didn't want a wallpaper or anything because I didn't know how long we were going to be there and there was a lot of unknowns so I didn't go into full nesting mode and what happened when we got back from break as I call it or our trip or the holiday travels was I had this like urge this like massive urge to start organizing all of our cabinets I think that what's funny is what nesting what guys think nesting is is like organizing some clothes for the baby.

53:25But what nesting actually manifests as is like vacuuming baseboards. Do you know my next project? I'm going to organize the cleaning cabinet, which has nothing to do with bringing a baby home from the hospital. But it all starts to matter. It's like a biological effect. I'm loving the nest. I'm loving the nest. Nesting. I'm loving the nesting I think that we like I totally hear you that it sounds like you know what did you say like your definition of it is different than my definition well I actually googled it it says men do nest but it manifests in men more so like handy projects to me the way like I am thinking about like alright what is this this like we have this big day in April coming up where the baby's born oh well well i was thinking in my head was how he said the date that you're being induced no we haven't okay so that's why i was like gonna lead beginning middle end but okay to get back on track like i have that date like it is at the forefront of of my brain and i want things to be locked in and ready for um for his arrival and that's both on the home front like having the nursery set up having all the key items ready like the dock a top vacuumed out though like yes and that's where my brain doesn't go yeah we need to have drawers vacuum like we need to do a full-blown deep clean because i think we got to have a good foundation to now bring some chaos into the household but i'm also thinking outside the house like i want to have my you know mental and physical health in in peak form i want so you're You're actually doing a bit of nesting yourself.

55:20My big motivation on the workout front is really like, it's like I have a race in April coming up. Okay, good. So you're trying to get in tip-top shape. I'm trying to vacuum drawers, reorganize. I want to organize the batteries by AAA to AA. I want to get down to that granular level. I was trying to label things yesterday, but the label maker was dead to my dismay, so we've ordered more batteries. I want to be stocked with batteries. I don't want there to be a crumb to be seen You got the details I got the big picture I like where your head's at with that No but that's a good point I went through the storage area yesterday and I checked like alright do we have the Dock-a-Tot?

56:03What did we save? Do we have that bouncy thing? Do we have the Moses basket? So I'm much more like okay do we have the supplies ready? I have the painter coming next week so that way the paint job's gonna go on Wait are you painting the nursery next week? um yeah okay we need to decide the width of the stripes okay very important it's very important i don't i don't want that like the the health health is one of many things i'm getting ready like on the work front i want everything to be smooth and organized no but age so that way when it comes we're like we're as prepared as one can be but i think health i think that that being what I think that you prioritizing your health your mental health and your work right now is really important because as we saw with Bubber those take about a three month back seat when she comes you want to make sure you're taken care of most you do it every day you make sure I'm taking care of every day somebody asked me question from the audience was how did you handle the hormone crash when weaning I don't I don't know if you saw my story but I put a photo of you and I up and I was like he got me through it I did not thank you yeah I was like he got me through it you have to talk to your partner and you have to say like I'm I'm gonna go through a hormone crash here and it's random because you just they just think you're like drying up your milk supply but there's a direct correlation there to hormones so you take care of me constantly um you deserve me and Bubber so another thing somebody said do do a pregnancy update I will I'll do a slight one right here.

57:37I have had to incorporate naps. I didn't have exhaustion with Tate because I think I just felt sick all the time. So I was just like constantly exhausted. But I had a second trimester burst of energy. I'm about a day away from the third trimester. And like I fell asleep yesterday at the Line Hotel in the lobby. Like I've just become the exhaustion. You can't outrun it. So I got to do a little nap. You're doing great. I'm not a napper. I hate napping. I think they're unproductive. Like, I think it's just, I don't like it. You deserve them. Well, it's not that I deserve them. I have to take them.

58:14So that's my pregnancy update. Also, my body's starting to hurt worse. And I would say exhaustion and, oh, an uptick in hunger. But last night I cracked the code. I keep seeing these viral cut the, yeah, slice the fruit and pour chocolate on it, put it in the freezer. I thought it was really stupid. I tried it last night I truly could not Stop talking to Harrison About it Who couldn't have Caired less Because he didn't have any I ate them all I've learned not To touch your dessert Don't touch my food In general It is a 12 Out of 12 dessert It looked amazing It was unbelievable I can't wait to have it Every night Until I have the baby Yeah it looked really good Every single night I feel like there's more To unpack on the house front The house front I've got some ideas I came to Harrison Who's my favorite general contractor I've met to date and I said I would like to put up some drywall and we have a very open floor plan I was like what if we throw up a bit of drywall here kind of like a half wall build a breakfast nook on the other side and he was like since when do you care about house projects because notoriously Harrison cares a lot about the house projects and he's good at executing them but I've recently figured when we bring the new baby home I want our downstairs to be so comfortable that you don't know what to do with yourself so comfortable i ordered more drapes today i'm finally gonna get our drapes to touch the floor in the living room yeah i i love your engagement on on the home reno stuff i feel like the home reno stuff consumed us like four or five months ago and then we've gotten totally dark on it and now we got some new projects coming and well we did phase a phase one yeah now we're into phase two and the motivation for phase two is April.

1:00:01Yeah. Like we need to do it. Yeah. And then we got to figure out this backyard situation, which I am still, I'm at a roadblock. Yeah. I'm just going to deem you the chief of the pool. I can't be the CPO chief pool officer. It overwhelms me. I don't see it. I don't know, but I can do the inside of the house. Yeah. I'm just, I've shown you a couple mock-ups and they get shut down and I don't know how to do it better. So. I think if we showed the audience like we're entering the pool somehow through a fence, I think they would also be confused. This is our bicker of the week next week, Jules. The bicker of the week.

The best response to the pool layout was neighbor guy, who him and Harrison have a very great relationship.

1:02:00He said, I'm just mad the designer even drew this up. I said, thank you. I was like, my jaw was on the floor. But you're doing such a good job. You enter to the side of the pool. Who wants to do that? You don't need to like in the Sims, like go around. Oh, a Sims couldn't possibly get there. The Sims would be like, oh my God. Can I tell you though, did you play Sims? Yeah, I was a big Sims player. I used to lose hours on Sims. It was so fun. We should get Bubber Sims. Yeah. Bubber. And a big desktop. No. That's like our whole antithesis would be like gaming at a desktop. Like not until she's 16.

1:02:49she has to go outside and now the neighbors did get Tate a bike for Christmas that she can go play with yeah I gotta set that up I think she's ready for it you think she's ready to start biking I think she's gonna try her and Winnie's current obsession is this car the little tykes car oh they love it they had it out again yesterday with Maria and one of them stands on top one of them stands on the back and Maria holds up against them it's really cute and then her second favorite toy is the piano yeah which we left in Vancouver. So the second piano just arrived today, which will be very exciting for Pepper.

1:03:23Yes. She is a big, big treat when she gets home. I like how you set it up and you put it right in the hallway. So she's going to see it and sprint towards it. Yeah, I want her to walk in and see it and then be able to play her favorite song off of it. All right, we're going to discuss something that came up at my girls brunch that we had, which speaking of the girls brunch, the guys did something really cute at the girls brunch. which is there was like seven or eight of us that went to brunch and we kind of like do it now on some Saturdays like I don't know we're all just like does anybody want to go to xyz and it's the same restaurant every time it's usually the same people we all went and um three of us have boyfriends husbands fiancés no boyfriends fiancés and husbands and the waiter came over to us afterwards and he said the boys have taken care of your meal and that was very nice of you You and the boys.

1:04:18Three boys. I don't know if this story has come out yet. Well, let's drop it here first. But we didn't pay for that meal. What? Other guys at the restaurant paid for the meal. That's not funny. I know it was you guys.

1:04:33That's silly. Take your dubs. Yeah. Yeah. It was really nice of you guys. We were sitting there and... we heard who whose main idea was Nick. It was Nick and, and he was going to get the credit. Like it really basically it was like what? So the game plan was, I actually want to, I think it's okay. Just to get how it all came up. So the game plan was, we were going to meet you after the guys are going to meet the girls after lunch. Cause we were playing golf beforehand as well. To watch football. and um someone said what's the girl's timing and um i think we had like there was some communication saying you guys were close to wrapping up and nick was like yeah like awesome like let's uh let's call the restaurant and um cover the bill and surprise them and chenner was It's like, love it.

1:05:31Great idea. Yeah. Great idea. Yeah. It was just very nice of you guys. And it just made it really fun. Like the mood was just automatically boosted. So that was really sweet. I love a little surprise like that. I think it goes a really long way. And it made the Saturday really fun. So on that note, I saw a clip from Khloe Kardashian saying that how do they split finances in the KarJenner household? and the clip was she was like okay Kim and I's kids go to the same school and on Fridays they have spirit day and there's a spirit store and at the store they only take cash and one day her and Kim were both there and Kim was like I don't have any cash and Chloe was like I've got it and Kim was like I'll pay you back just have my business manager which that was like my favorite part of the clip was like just have my business manager send it to you and Chloe was like Kim we're good second favorite part of the clip she then says Kim's a billionaire right and so it's like nice to have that confirmed because I've always wondered if she actually was a billionaire and Chloe was like so we're mindful of when each other spend money on each other and like we do keep running tab like just because Kim's a billionaire doesn't mean we have her pay for everything um I personally want more juicy details like who pays for the Christmas parties things like that like are we dividing that up but it reminded me of like if you're friends with kim and chloe etc on venmo and you see like kim venmo chloe for like spirit day you'd be like what like they're venmoing each other and it reminded me of couples who will venmo each other for like groceries and things and my my thing is just put your venmo on private just set the venmo to private because then we're all watching like how do you ever do a scroll down venmo lane because i don't but some people do and they'll like see their friends venmo transactions and it's like a husband and wife they've been married for 10 years and like venmo each other for groceries and i'm like i think we should just make it private um i'm not really sure where we're going with this but like what kind of lands to me out of that whole thing is like it almost feels like someone told them to say that to be more relatable like like i don't really think there's like some spirit reimbursement going on in that okay in that in that family i think it's like all right like we need to show that like we're focused on on uh financial awareness like what well i she drops but what i'm saying it's funny too is she's like kim's business manager she becomes a billionaire i loved it i loved it and obviously like couples all deal with finances super differently to me the the second thing that just like jumps out on what you're saying is i think generally keeping your venmo public is a wild move i just think it's really funny to be like grocery like rent but any like to me anyone it's like i'll i still like like well when i open up my venmo will like always have a look at what's going on the main page and it's like characters from like my past life that are just like you know having the most random uh venmos and sometimes there'll be like two people i know like oh yeah you're still friends that's what i'm saying so it's like it's just i think finance it's one thing to see like a friend commenting on another friend's post right cool public all is fair but like sending the money i'm like i don't know take it to zelle or something yeah why'd they even make venmo transactions public in the first place that's a good question like you probably because the way that was marketed to investors was like as a social app because yeah that's what vcs cared about at the time they just never really updated it's a social app now like the fact that you can like and you can comment that being said is like it does garner conversation well no i'm sure it get screenshot like i bet there's a lot of screenshots going on of like um okay what if two people just started dating and one venmoed the other for dinner one people would be like i guess they went on a date too interesting he's having your pay for half i mean that's just a whole lot of conversation that we don't need to be a part of it's good creeping venmo's good creeping that's what i'm saying put it to private you know yeah it's it's a weird thing to share It's funny.

1:10:08I think I've been like a day one private Venmo person. I don't know what I am, but I never really scroll down Venmo. But all I know, and here I'll just say this, Harrison and I, we don't Venmo each other. Do you ever charge me for Venmo? Well, we're a shared bank account family. We're a shared bank account household. So what's mine is yours and what's yours is mine. Isn't that correct? yes ma 'am which is Harrison is the more financially literate one between the two of us and I've learned a lot from you and I've really been enjoying that give yourself credit I am I'm just saying you're more financially literate than I and I learn a lot from you what do you learn from me in finances do tell tell us what you learned from me in finances I would love to know tell us what have I taught you Jules is shaking her head what have I you taught me how to I've taught you there's no money better spent than getting that fridge stocked well everybody always told me when you have a kid you'll be shocked at the amount of money you spend on berries and I always thought that was stupid until now we can't keep them in stock I'm ordering so many berries and she's eating them all yeah Bova loves berries they're the one constant for her though like we like avocado sometimes and we like ba ba ba bananas sometimes but we always like raspberries and blueberries and a lot of them my jaw hit the floor last night that like when when certain stereotypes in life prove themselves to be true and one of these that was so surprising to me was you always hear kids hate broccoli Kids hate broccoli.

1:12:05Kids hate broccoli. I make this amazing broccoli with Parmesan on it yesterday. Put her plate on. I've never seen her spit food out. She put the broccoli in her mouth and just... Truly. I have tried... Went back in for a second round because Bubba doesn't spit out her food. Spits it out a second time. I have tried broccoli. The garlic broccoli. the bread crumb broccoli all different ways. The only time she's had broccoli was in that stir fry. She only had about two pieces of it. But, and then Maria had a hack. She told me about this and I made it for Bubba this weekend. Shred up the broccoli and put it in turkey burgers.

1:12:51Yes. I just thought that she would, like her not eating that parm broccoli kind of flatteners that I did. I was stunned. It was essentially cheese with like a dash of broccoli and she was throwing it out. But I'm with you on this. The old wise tale, kids hate veggies. You saute spinach. Nope. You make her cauliflower. Nope. Like she'll eat everything. Comes and goes. She eats everything and she doesn't like the veggies. It's cute. Yep. Okay, we're going to go to things we DM'd. Okay. And we're going to do the most lighthearted one. Okay. Which is a list of places I need to pull up the actual notion doc here.

1:13:31A list of places that girls don't want to go on a date. Okay. My thing's not populating, though. And then maybe I'll share some wisdom on first dates and keys to first dates. Well, I have some also written down that you've taught me. Okay. But why isn't my thing updating on here? Do you want to hear my number one key to a first date? Yeah. Is always have a second location planned. so that way if the first location is going well you set yourself up to move locations

1:14:08i just had a big moment yes emily oster started a mom's creator group yeah and it's a place where you can there's 10 of us in it yeah it's a place where you can submit questions um ask her for advice and just have an overall mom chat and she's going to share her opinion on hot topics oh wow my friend katie beach just sent me a screenshot of it saying hi we both made it that's a big moment for me i'm very excited about that um okay tell i'm so sorry i broke my own rule what was your tip i know i was really excited i didn't know what she was screenshotting the key to a first date is always have a second location planned in case things are going well the first totally agree and go in it with that energy that it's gonna go so well you need to go to two spots yeah I like that we went to three on our first date okay here's a list of places women absolutely refuse to go on a first date let's hear there's 28 I'm gonna summarize okay okay you'll get the gist cheesecake factory yeah Applebee's okay Chili's.

1:15:19So chains. Chipotle. I stand by that. No chains on a first date. Number six. If you're going to do a coffee shop, don't go to a chain. Go to a cute neighborhood coffee shop. Okay, but here's some more polarizing ones. The movies. Yeah, that's a ridiculous first date. Because you can't talk? Yeah. I'm fine with the movie. Your house? Yeah, that's completely inappropriate. Buffalo Wild Wings, I think, is insulting, and I would go there on a first date. So I'm very mad about that. um i think chains in general is a no for a first date a buffet well i don't know why we're assaulting buffets i'm fine to go there the gym completely agree i i where i'd push back on that is like going and doing a workout class if you like met someone at a workout class and it was like you know you're talking them after it's like hey what do you do next Saturday?

1:16:13Do you want to take the 10, 15 and, and grab breakfast after a second or third or fourth date? Fine. But if you, if you live in that fitness world and you're not a drinker, I think that's a great act. I think that's a great day. Well, I think that one's fine too. If it's, that's a very casual day. Like I don't want you to see me working out for our first date, but my kind of point on that is, is if no, but if you know that girl from the workout class, so like if you see them all the time that's not a real first date that's a i'm trying to figure out if you're single but it's a what are you doing next weekend what do you want to do the 10 15 and get breakfast after that's a layup but i don't think you had to work hard enough for i i don't like i'm i'm gonna say no jim unless it's not a real outline date i i think we've seen the studies on how few men are asking women out right now.

1:17:07And so I think we need to lower the bar. We don't need to lower the bar. Pause for a second. Jules, got him. I think guys are afraid to ask girls on dates. So I don't know if lower the bar is right, is the right word, but I think that maybe we got to keep the standard high. Yeah. Okay. but help me Jules help me I'm okay with brunch afterwards like I can understand how it fits into your schedule going to the gym is like a hang maybe not a date but that's what I'm saying the breakfast after yeah it's like a small it's a piece of the equation okay moving along to family functions my one carve out here is I think it could be hilarious if you needed a date and you asked a girl like I'm down for that like a wedding yes first date to a wedding you can't you absolutely can't you need to like get a coffee with them first or do a workout class and a breakfast after okay bowling i think is a phenomenal first date great first i actually think we should move that to a top 10 first date but here's what i'm gonna say on bowling okay okay i think bowling is the perfect second location so picking a bar close to a bowling alley it's going well you can bring up bowling what do you think of bowling have you when's the last time you've been haven't haven't been in forever but you know what there's a great bowling alley block and a half away what do you think we check it out and then you get points for spontaneity and you already have the reservation booked but that brings us to 26 a bar just for drinks not a good place for a first date what else are you doing i think like that's base rate i'm fine with it but it needs the bar needs to there needs to be a story to the bar i can't just be a good bar yeah good bar i think not fancy but good Jules no no keep going I think number 27 is perhaps the most insulting on the list and that's Waffle House if somebody invites me to Waffle House on a first date I could say you could propose to me afterwards I think it's one of the greater American treasures all-American breakfast you never been still should we get married at Waffle House I would be down for that at least have the reception there oh that could be a lot of fun Sydney and I grew up walking to Waffle House twice a week.

1:19:22So what is this list that we're listening to? It's on Complex and it's a list of places that women absolutely refuse to go on a first date and thank you to the ladies who reached out to help me on my list. Okay. Number 28. Yeah. This one is the second most insulting on the list. Sporting events? I think that's a great first date. If you took me to that hockey game on our first date, I would have had a blast. It's a great first date. I think it's a great first date. I just feel weird because I realize I'm arguing with people saying it's a bad first date. That's fine. I think these are good first dates.

1:19:56I'm defending it, I guess. I also... What are you going to say? No, you can keep going. But I also really think, like, Chipotle, I get it's fast casual. But Olive Garden, Cheesecake Factory, Applebee's, Chili's, those are, like, nostalgic. Like, I think that's a lot of fun conversation around that. Yeah. I was just going to say, did you see what Walmart commented? What? What'd they say? They just said, you know who's not on here, though? That's funny. Go to Walmart on your first date. I like it. Love it. That's the kind of social media banter that I'm there for. There's a lot of brands commenting.

1:20:27It's funny. Love it. Another interesting thing that I remember back on our first date was you always said what you do. Like, don't set the precedent so high that you can't keep up with it. I did. I did not follow that with you. What did you do with me that was so... The first bar we went was a really nice bar. Overstory is fabulous. Fancy bar, really tough reservation at the time. The Balloon Museum was just really an epic experience. Well, it was the best first date I've ever been on, I say.

1:21:12Coming up with a second date to top that date would have been very hard. Well, the good news is we never stopped going on the first day, so you didn't have to think too hard. Yes. Thank you. But we did go to Bond Street Sushi the next day. No, that was Monday. Okay. Yeah, you're right. Sorry. Sunday, walked West Side Highway, Aperol Spritz is at Lohr, and then - My famous pizza place that you hated. Your famous pizza place. Is vegan, which is tough for guys, but I love it. I was more so referring to you saying like you calling me an Uber. You were like, I didn't want to do that because I think like what you set the precedent.

1:21:49You offered to pick me up in your Uber on the way there. But I mean, this baby's kicking like I think it's about the jog. But you you had said something like what I do now. I want to be able to sustain. Yes. Something like that. No. Yes, for sure. You like which I like. Yes, you don't want to set the wrong precedent, but I very rarely do. I don't think I ever would go that big on a first date. Normally, my first dates were pretty standard drink to either restaurant or activity. Which I think is good because there is. And then I think when you really start to like the girl, then you can start to roll out the red carpet.

1:22:35Like you had a really fun fourth or fifth date where you asked me my favorite food in the world. I said pancakes. You brought over pancakes, board games, and art supplies. And you had things we were going to do throughout the night. And like that to me was fun. Yes. Where we push back on this date. I think the most important thing with the first date is that two people can sit there, get to know each other, and get a feel for if there's chemistry. and so I think you ultimately want to optimize for a location that does that it's that simple like a restaurant like a restaurant or a bar you can go to a bar first and then a restaurant second or vice versa show you put some thought into it a little bit of thought but I do agree like you need to have the foundation of conversation which is why I guess a movie is bad although I'm still down for a movie although it's a bit awkward at a movie I guess because like do you kind of like put your arm around her do you sit there what if there's like a kissing scene okay maybe I'm out on the first movie.

1:23:31Maybe I've talked myself out of it. I love a movie, though, for a top 10 first date situation. I'm in on that. Sweatpants movie, it's casual. It's one of the first 10 dates. Yeah, that's cool. I'm good with that. That makes a lot of sense to me. Yeah. We went to a sporting event, though. We went to a basketball game and had a blast, and you got the tickets where you could shoot the ball on the practice court. That was really fun. Really, really, really fun. you were great at dates. You still are. Thank you. I mean, we aren't going on nearly enough dates, but we'll... But do you know what I look forward to in life?

1:24:10Just knowing that when we do get back to our dates, I mean, you're not boring. We go on just comedy club or what were we doing this weekend? And I was like, this boy, there's never a dull day. Didn't stop. Friday, you're like, we got to get barbecue. And we went and did it. Che Black's. My life is significantly more fun with you in it. Right back at you. Don't you forget it. Okay. We're doing one things we DM this week because we kind of like rift for so long. So there's your one. And that's it, guys. We love you. Thank you for listening. And have a great weekend and happy Thursday. Thank you for listening.

This week on Two Parents & A Podcast — we are DEEP in nesting mode (like… vacuuming-baseboards level nesting) and officially debating whether audiobooks “count” as reading (jury is still out (kind of) PLEASE settle this debate in the comments).

We kick things off with a Bring It On reference (is that anyone else’s FAVORITE movie??). Then we debunk the “gum stays in your stomach for 7 years” myth (plot twist: it does NOT), revisit our gift-returning etiquette as a couple, and activate full “dad mode” with Harrison’s Apple Watch + AirPods case + phone-wallet combo (peak suburban father energy).

Then we get into reflecting on our toddler communication ep — pointing, signing, and how much Tate actually understands — plus what to ask when you’re interviewing childcare providers. We also finally finished Heated Rivalry (!!!), immediately disagreed on the best episode with Jules (she says we’re basic), and then spiraled into this week’s Bicker of the Week: Do audiobooks count as reading or no?!

Alex gives a mini Mean Moms book review (and the fictional-defamation drama behind it), we celebrate podcasts arriving at the Golden Globes, and we taste-test Flock’s new Chicken Stick (Alex’s first time live on the pod!!!).

Plus — a pregnancy update (the naps are napping), house-project brainstorming, girls’ brunch surprises, Venmo-privacy etiquette, our toddler’s alarming berry budget, and a viral list of places women REFUSE to go on a first date (Waffle House slander will not be tolerated).

LOVE YOU GUYS — thanks for listening!!
