0:29Kayak gets my flight, hotel, and rental car right. instant oatmeal. The instant oatmeal ready to help you tackle whatever your day brings. Like wrinkling your toddler into their car seat. That was fun. Coaching your 6th grader soccer team. Go girls! And carrying all the groceries in one trip. Try Quaker protein instant oatmeal, granola, and bars. Great taste and a good source of protein. Quaker. Bring out the good. I have a question. What? This is for the group. Okay. Sweatpants. Are sweatpants back? Did they ever leave? I just did a big sweatpants order. They're the only pants that I'm actually comfortable in.

1:12In the winter, I think they're always back, and I think that they never left. I did a big Nordstrom's Elwood haul. Yeah, I think they left in your mind, maybe. Does that make sense? Nordstrom's Elwood haul. Yeah, you bought Elwood from Nordstrom. And the haul was the purchase. Yep, and you did a haul. Well, big sale. You can do an unboxing. Did you get three sweatsuits? I did three sweatsuits, a couple shirts. 90 % of the order was pick up, and then 10 % is being shipped. You're going to pick up? Yeah. I wanted it for this weekend, so I kind of got to go this afternoon. And you got some things to return.

1:50Because we have this big winter storm coming. Allegedly. Allegedly. But this is big. Like, why are winter storms such a big deal in Texas and not a big deal in so many other parts of the country? Like, growing up, I never had to, like, turn my faucet on overnight so that way things didn't freeze. Like, what does Canada do to prevent the freezing or New York do to prevent the faucet freezing? But Texas doesn't have. He has told us this before. I mean, things are just built differently. But what is the mechanism? It's an infrastructure Like our pipes are on the outside of our house But you told us this Texas is just built a little differently They don't salt the roads Yeah, we don't have salt trucks But salting the road I can get I can totally understand that My question is the pipes Why are these pipes freezing in Texas And they're not freezing in Massachusetts, New York Excuse me?

2:53What do you mean? Massa two sis one more time how do you say it i don't know massachusetts i that's what i just said you were saying the city you were trying to say the state the state massachusetts oh wow i thought you were saying a city in new york no massachusetts massachusetts okay i went to lunch yesterday with a fellow two fellow canadians and we had a whole pronunciation chat Well, do we have the... It... I don't think... Who cares? I care. Jules! Jules! Stop! Who cares? I'm genuinely wondering, why aren't we... Why am I being told that I need to run the faucets? I'm a big water conservationist.

3:40Due to a combination of shallow burial depths. So Texas, it's less than a foot. Okay. Also, lack of insulation in Texas homes. And also the pipes are made to handle higher temperatures because it gets so hot here versus like lower temperatures. Okay, that makes sense. So we use different pipes and they're not as deep. Well, that makes a lot of sense because I'm sure pipes have to pick are you going to withstand heat or are you going to withstand freezing? And obviously in Texas they have to withstand over 100 degree weather for a lot of time. That to me makes a lot of sense. Okay. Okay, let's start.

4:15Ready? Yes. Welcome back to another episode of Two Parents in a Podcast.

4:23The painter's at our house because we have finished the nursery. The stripes are up and we're moving on to the playroom. Frank, phenomenal job. Frank, a round of applause for Frank. Also, off the top, what we would like to say is what, Harrison? Subscribe and send the episodes to a friend. Please. Why don't you say please? I'm the manners person and I don't know why I don't But you're not a big please and thank you No, no, no, I am a very Like I at a Somebody asked me today He said you don't have to say please every time I come over and thank you At a restaurant My manners at a restaurant Don't you dare even tell me they're not top tier I I've noticed a gap in Please and thank yous We just saw it Like we literally, I didn't just make this up.

5:16If you're asking someone to like and subscribe, I think it's like, hey, you know, this would mean a lot to me because, you know, it's my requested push present. And thank you so much for subscribing and listening. Why are you acting like you have all these manners just because we're recording? I'm a big manners guy. You're not. I think if we took a poll in the room, I would win the manners award. I'm a big manners guy. I'll stand up for myself if I have to. My manners are very good. Guys, please like and subscribe. Oh, that's very nice. That's very nice. Thank you. Thank you. Please thank you.

5:54Thank you and please. No, Bubba is learning gracias. I gave her half of a rice cake today. Maria and I both, we were gracias. She doesn't know how to say it yet, so it was tough because she couldn't say it. What was she saying? Like, gaga. Like, she can't say gracias. She can't. maria today also gave him the options between huevos and panquecas my jaw was on the floor when i walked into her room this morning and uh her sleep sack was on the ground so this is okay so what what i said to her after because harrison left for workout and i had 15 minutes with bubber and i was talking to her i said hey did you take we call it her leapy sack we call it sleep sack her leapy sack i said hey i heard you took off your leepy sack last night.

6:38I'm not kidding you. She started trying to take off her pajamas at that moment when I was talking to her. So like she understood that she had done that. I like, one, she was up for like an hour stretch last night. Didn't make a peep. I like went on the Nana and like watched and she just like woke up at like 11 and like got very fixated on getting this thing off. and she was you should watch it it's like she took her sleep sack off at 11 yes and she just like she was playing with it and then she like kind of finally got the zipper and then just like took it down because we've been practicing zippers but she was up for like an hour and she didn't make a peep we have on one of those um busy boards we have a zipper that we've been practicing she's been practicing zippers that's why she wanted to that's why she wants to take all these zippers off good job bubber so i was so but i was so confused i was like uh-oh because like did i last night was i just like not paying attention like forgot to put it on her and i was like i've never done something like that but like who knows and then so that's why i went in and i looked at nana and then i obviously went to chat to be t was like i can babies take off their sleep sacks and what did chat say yeah yeah it typically happens around 18 months okay so she just now does Does that mean we need to stop putting her in the sleep sack?

8:04I think we need to transition her to a blanket. Oh my gosh. She, I'll say this about her new room, you guys, because she's moved her room. She's got the room with the wallpaper now. She loves it. She knows she upgraded her room. Like, she is proud of this room. She also does this thing now. By the way, we need to call ourselves out on something. What, we talking about her too much? We have just become the parents. Yeah, I can feel it. That will just talk about their child for hours upon hours. Okay. We do it at night. Everything she does is the cutest thing in the world, but I stand by it is. She does this thing now where she goes over a crib and she just flops her armies over the crib and just hangs out like that.

8:42It's amazing. Her armies. I think the cutest thing that she did recently was flop herself down on the carpet when she saw her new room. That was so cute. It was so. I'd never seen her do something like that. She just started in her new room because she knows. she is like a big girl in this room it's great she walks in they're proud like she's so proud of this room and we got the organizational setup of the nursery now a lot better like we built the nursery around the the dresser that we had and that dresser took the place of where the chair was supposed to go and so the chair was like in the middle of the room and now because everything went into bubber's room i think this nursery this time around is just going to be so much better plus the paint job is better shows the importance of a good painter yeah the a good painter is clutch we we got the first guy no disrespect to him but we just got him off task rabbit and the paint is kind of everywhere in the room yeah and and i i i booked him based off of his time availability not ratings and so in task rabbits defense harrison you gotta book people off task rabbit by based off their ratings it was like he he's who could literally come like that afternoon ratings are like i should have known yeah because that was not a good paint job but frank is frank crushed yep frank crushes if your motto is less is more then shouldn't your morning routine feel the exact same way yes as a mom i say yes it should with merit beauty their thoughtfully edited lineup is made for fast five minute routines with easy to use products that deliver a natural put together look in just a few swipes there's nothing better than that.

That's M-E-R-I-T Beauty.com to get your free signature makeup bag with your first order. MeritBeauty.com. Okay, we just won. I want to give a show wreck. It's six episodes. It ends like it's, what is that? A short, what do you call that? What do you call a series that ends? Like has its beginning and an end. A limited series. It's a limited series. It's his and hers. Phenomenal. Just like we watched it in two nights. We watched three episodes each night. It was really good. Because it's going to be cold this weekend.

11:40Like watch that. I promise you. What's very nice about the show is I was doing Edmund Night. Admin. For the first five episodes. And so I probably caught 5 % of what was going on. And the last episode, not a spoiler, but a spoiler, you didn't really need to watch the first five episodes if you just watched the last episode. Yes, you did. Oh, my gosh. Yes, you did. No, I feel like I know exactly what happened in that show. I feel like I didn't enjoy it as much as I would have liked to have. But I love a show that you don't need to be, that can be a midnight show. Now, here's a question. Did we talk about the Ben Affleck, Matt Damon interview?

12:17No. No. Okay. Because this show did a good job of it. A very good segue. So Ben Affleck and Matt Damon were just on a podcast and they were talking about making movies today and how that differs from when they first got into the industry. And essentially building, creating movies for Netflix versus theaters. And they said a couple super interesting things that stood out to me. The first is you now need to write or they now need to write understanding people are going to be on their phones and get distracted. And so they'll reiterate the plot line four or five times because if they just say it once, then people are going to forget.

13:02Hate that. The other thing is now they said you need to bring the action forward in the movie. And so if you don't hook the person in the first five minutes, you risk losing them to another show. and like I didn't really think about it how before if you go to the theaters and you buy a ticket like they have you for two hours you're rarely if ever gonna leave and so they can really build the plot line up and they can really like small action scene small action scene leading to the grand one and it's like no they need to get you in the first five minutes and the show that did an unbelievable job at that was the kidnapping show all her fault all her fault what got me was the first five minutes of that show this one too though the first scenes dramatic yeah this one I just like I really wish I watched um in more detail but I'm glad that I got the gist of it yeah it was really really good I think also though the same thing with TikTok like when people make content they always say you have to hook them at the beginning like you can't put your most juicy part of your TikTok or your Instagram reel in the middle of it people will swipe like our attention spans are shot as a society I think we just have to acknowledge that and I think that um it makes a lot of sense that you have to hook them in the beginning of a film so otherwise they're like oh forget it I'll go find a new show I ordered something for the house it arrives today and I want to know what your participation is gonna be okay I ordered a phone box what a box that your phone goes in my participation will be very high in that Okay.

14:36What do you think should be the hours of the phone box? Let's go 9 to 9. At 9 p.m. it goes in? Yeah. I need mine at 8 in the morning. Okay. 9 to 8. You don't think it should come up a little earlier? 9 to 7? Like 7 to 9? You want to put your phone in at 7? Okay. Why don't you use the brick? I don't like the brick. Like the brick is like, it's, yeah, I didn't, to me, I didn't really get the brick. I say this respectfully because you did say that I don't have good manners, which I do. You're an over consumer. Like why didn't we just get a box from the backyard and put our phones in it? You ordered a phone box?

15:20Yeah. How much was it? I think$56. What? Who is selling a phone box? Amazon. What makes it different than another box? Well, it's like a sacred place. What? Does it have a passcode? So there's a passcode one and a non-passcode one. I didn't do the passcode one because I think we need to show some stuff. I find the passcode stuff ridiculous because if you just want it, you hit the passcode. We have so many boxes, though. Why did you buy a box? Because I like the way this one looked. And it's like, for me, I bought it for me. I'm going to walk in the house. I'm going to put it in. I think out of principle, I might not participate and put my phone just down on the counter.

15:55But that doesn't work. That doesn't work. Well, it will work. I don't think it will for me it will work great I have really good phone boundaries I don't know if you noticed my phone stays upside down on white noise I think you do have very good phone boundaries but then sometimes you don't you better you have phone boundaries than me though I will say that I run laps around your phone I mean we could just look at screen time I beat you on screen time so I beat you we were recording fake news what I win screen time every week really yes so I'm gonna look at you checking your Apple Watch I was like, I get one night.

16:30I get one. So I turned off all notifications on the Apple Watch except for one. What is the one that I don't have off? Maria. Nanette. Nanette. And it's very good for sleeping because it wakes me up. No, it doesn't. I wake you up. Well, you woke me up yesterday because. And today. I just start to lightly touch. I say Bubba's awake. every morning. I got to talk to you about this. I cannot believe I almost forgot to talk to you about this. So you're, the Apple Watch is blinding in the middle of the night. Like, I don't know how it doesn't dim better than that. I just have pictures of Bubber. So, I know, and they just lights up.

17:14They're so good. Look at Bubber in the hat. But you're like knocked out like this with your wrist facing me. Bubber at H-E-B. Bubber at the park. So last night. Bubber in her chair. Last night what I was able to do was time How long I would go in between peeing Because as you know when you're pregnant You pee all through the night If you say Bubber one more time Bubber playing Bubber with her Patsy bear Bubber with mumber bear Did you do them all? Bubber in her sand outfit Oh Bubber at paws up Bubber at the pool I don't know what Bubba was there Young Bubba Okay sorry That's okay So last night in the middle of the night I was able to track how many like I could see the I could see your watch every time I went to the bathroom And the longest stress I made Was I went from 245 to 415 Very nice And it didn't wake me up that I had to pee So do you want this Apple watch off when I sleep?

18:16Because sometimes I have it off Sometimes I have it on No I kind of enjoyed knowing what time it was Okay man like and then at one point i got back in bed at 5 15 and i thought this is great i have another hour and a half to sleep like i was like oh i can actually get cozy and go to bed it was lovely i'm having really bad insomnia though it's back my restless legs through the roof it's okay um okay harrison want okay well no first of all you guys a thank you to you for commenting the toddler recipes my favorite one is that somebody makes their baby mcgriddles oh my gosh and tractor wheels are a food so many dms about this and i re-watched the clip where we're talking about tractor wheels and i'm like no they're just like wheels they can't keep in stock they're fully of food fully of food we clearly don't have a boy what's the mcgriddle recipe I don't know Egg and sausage on pancake Pancaka Okay Okay Choose your own adventure honestly And we can do our kind of Our healthy pancakes There's also meatballs with zucchini in them Which is kind of an ode to Maria Putting the broccoli in the turkey patties Yeah Which I think is a good idea in general To take the meat they like And add veggies to it Which is what this person was suggesting It's kind of what we did last night with the chili you made really good chili last night I think you're officially adulting when I can think of a recipe and we have all the ingredients at the house I felt really cool about that I will say we do run light on onion I think we're typically light on onion I've noticed also our Friday night dinners one thing about them is we always have to end up door dashing something have you noticed this?

20:04on Friday nights what we'll do is we'll have parents over. Yeah. And we have parents and kids because I made a video about this last night. Parenting is easier when you have other kids over because the kids play with the kids and the parents get to all have their mealtime. So one thing that's become huge for us is Friday night dinners and we often make pizzas. Yeah. But what we find. Yeah, totally. Like Friday night dinners, one of my, it's like consistently a highlight of my week, three to four families. I feel like we talk about it all the time. where were you going with it sorry we always have the door dash something like we always we always forget something so the other day we didn't have the first time we did it we didn't have pizza stones because what do you always say the key to good pizza is the key absolute key to homemade pizza is pizza stones secondary key which is a bit of a cheat is you call up your favorite pizza shop and you ask to pick up the raw dough because they get it's a lot easier to roll and it rises to the perfect level.

21:07So if you don't want to do the homemade dough, I highly recommend that. But yes, pizza stone's key. And I couldn't believe it because I lost our pizza stones. No idea where they went. DoorDash had them there in 30 minutes. And then I, well, I did this. I do this all the time, but I did it the other day because I'm big into frozen fruit with chocolate on top. So I will DoorDash dessert or the frozen grapes that are sour. I'll DoorDash those. Yeah, no, DoorDash, it's become a very key part of our friday night family get together but it's because parenting like when you're parenting you have to pick can somebody leave can somebody cook can somebody stay home with the kids like okay well we don't have three parents and you're always you're never gonna be able to do it all no there's always gonna be something you forget whether it's the pizza stones whether it's the dessert um so our method is harrison cooks i hang out with bubber and we get on doordash and we order it via doordash love it all right doordash fan this podcast is sponsored by DoorDash, which is our go-to solution as parents where life throws you a curveball and you just need more time and you can't get everything done at once.

22:08We love to get on DoorDash to help us finish the task, you guys. DoorDash meets parents in the messy middle with real-time solutions that help them navigate all of life's curveballs because as a parent, you know there are many. We celebrate the scrappy, resourceful wins that make parents' lives easier and help them get things done. Parenting can be chaotic, it can be unpredictable, and it can be complicated. Delivery with DoorDash isn't. Get it ordered, delivered with DoorDash. Hair fluff, what do we think? It's great. Because I've started, one of the things I like about this new gym I'm going to is they have a good shower setup.

22:48You're showering at the gym. I'm showering at the gym. Sweatpants season. It's just, that's the flow of it all. But I don't bring hair product. One thing about me is I'm not showering at the gym. Interesting. No matter how nice the showers are at the gym, no matter what the scenario is, you're not going to catch me showering at the gym because it's too much schlepping for me. Like, I don't want to take off my workout gear, get in the shower. I always forgot something. Never fails I've forgotten something to put back on. Then I get dressed. Then I get home and I got to put my workout gear in the laundry.

23:23Like I just want to do it all at home. So I come from the school thought even if I sweat, sorry, but I'm just I'm powering through with the workout clothes. Yeah, I just like I'm there. I can get it over with. They have the supplies. No dirty towels at home. Yeah, I'm committing to the shower gym. Now you showering at the gym works in my favor because you do this thing, this crazy thing where you get out of the shower still wet. I dry off in the shower. Harrison tracks water all over our bathroom. Like you don't even need a towel. I think this can transition to a nice little bicker of the week.

24:06Do you need to completely dry off in the shower or can you do a partial dry in the shower? You don't even do a partial dry. Yeah, that's a great bicker. I do a partial dry. I dry on the shower mat I get out and I dry up on the shower mat It's everywhere Harrison Your water is everywhere You track it in the bedroom And this is the worst that he does He takes this soaking wet towel Plops it on the pillows Then I come home and I'm like The pillows have to dry Yes you do, you do it every time Own it, own that you do it Stay with the chest, yes you do Every time the towel's on the bed And I'm like, huh, okay, I'll pick it up Yes you do, just admit that you do it No, I don't Listen, I think it's cute cohabitating with you Because I see your little things that you do I don't Yes, you do I dry off on the mat You do not You dry off around the room And then I do a towel wrap And then once the towel wrap Maybe sometimes the towel ends up on the bed Because if it was on the floor I feel like I'd get yelled at for being on the floor The floor, no, yeah Put it over the shower But then it gets wet Because the shower's wet No, every What?

25:12Yes. Harrison, everyone, most people in society take their towel and drape it over the shower. That's a perfect spot for it. The bed is a really bad idea. No, I'm just showering at the gym. And that's perfect. No, I mean, please shower at the gym. You couldn't catch me showering at the gym, but you showering at the gym, nothing better. There was some gym drama. What was the gym drama? There's nothing like breaking in a gym without some drama. There was a homeless man like bum rushed the smoothie the smoothie stand and just like snagged a bunch of food off the counter and ran out. OK. Yeah. And what happened?

25:56When I saw it happening, my approach in a situation like that is this person is clearly struggling with something. As long as it's clear they're not going to commit any harm to anyone, if they're just trying to grab food, stay out of their way. 100%. I'm with you on that. I'm sitting there. I'm on a work call. I was very much stand back. Not my monkey, not my circus. Stand back There was a bit of pushback from two of the people in there What do you mean pushback? They were like, no, they were trying to get the food back? There was like some resistance One of them, there was some resistance What does that mean?

26:38They tried to stop him? One guy on his way out tried to stop him And another guy kind of chased him out Which, yeah, so No, I just, I think we should let, I think we should let him have the food but i also really understand why they would stand in his way of like hey like setting the precedent of of that isn't going to be allowed here oh agree and so i think they did it in a really respectful way like of this isn't going to get physical but like you can't just walk in here and take whatever you want agreed there's going to be there's going to be some friction to it but yeah it was it was definitely like a moment and you were on a work call I'm on a pretty serious work call and so like did you tell him no you just kept your cool it was an intro to to um like a a notable business opportunity and it's actually great they have this area it's great to take calls there and I just like went on mute and kind of like sorry guys I'm on a call.

27:53Standing back. You guys handle it. But no one was hurt and that's all that matters. And it didn't there wasn't a feeling of of him going in there to do harm he was very clearly in there for some food but this guy was off his rocker. Oh he was yeah it was very SF. I hate to hear it. Brings me no joy to hear that story. I do think it's a bit funny you were on the call on a work call in the corner a serious work call you weren't just on the phone with alex cost you couldn't hang up you couldn't narrate what was happening so you just had to watch it but then remain focused yeah and then yeah yes and so and then okay and so they he he got the food he took it what kind of food was it what's what kind of foods on a on a smoothie bar the he took so many chumps sticks it was unbelievable it was unbelievable how many took like he i can't I don't know how many they had.

28:45They must have lost on six. And he took a ton. Okay. Yep. Okay, that's funny. What do you think someone should do in that situation? I would just take a backseat. I would just kind of chill because other people had to handle. Like if there's two guys that are like, I'm going to handle this, I would let them handle it because I don't know that it's helpful to have, you know, masses against one. He's not in a place to be met with logic, it doesn't sound like. So I'm all for him getting food. I just I don't think we need to gang up on him so to speak. Yeah. But to defend the people the two guys that did step in I thought they handled it with that right balance.

29:21But that's what I'm saying. They they had it covered like the first two people that step up to bat like they've got it. Yeah. They're like they didn't try and meet logic with logic. They didn't lose their cool and composure. It was it felt like they handled it very responsibly. Yeah. I think if they if we started to see that they weren't doing well then somebody else. One of the dudes by the way. He's a big guy. He's jacked. jacked and see okay and so like he you this is a guy like maybe that's what it is the most fit the tallest most jacked person in the vicinity and he's used to this i'm sure should trouble ever approach if if a bank gets robbed and he's in it he's like this is me like the rock it's always the rock the rock needs to step up if i'm at a bank and it gets robbed that would be a very great moment for me why i think bank robbery like they're fascinating they are fascinating in the movies they are i don't think they go down here's the thing i think in the movies they come in the guy puts on the mask he holds the gun up he's like everyone get down he walks up to the teller he's like give me all the cash and he leaves i think in real life it's a lot different than i would just like i'd want like 30 i'd be dude give me the 30 second rundown of what's going on here like Like, I want some color on the robbery.

30:38I think it would be a lot scarier. I think in the movies, they're totally romanticized. Oh. I don't think they oftentimes. I think I've seen most bank robbery movies. Heist, very good show. I mean, in my mind, I can see a lot of bank robberies happening, but I think in real life, you just go up, you flash your gun, you say give me the money. That one with Denzel is super good. I don't know which one that is. Jules, she's shaking her head at me. Jules doesn't care. Any movie with Denzel is good. Not a movie watcher. What? No. Jules is a book listener. Yeah. Exclusively listens to Heated Rivalry.

31:18Well, she watches Heated Rivalry. I saw something about Heated Rivalry. I don't remember what it was. That they're carrying the Olympic torch. The actors? Yeah. They're the final one? I don't know. Or they're one of 500? No, I think they're one of. I just learned that that was like a thing. Okay. That's really cool. Sure. I'm excited about that for them. Yeah. Okay. So we have a haunted light in our bedroom. Like, have you been noticing this? No. You don't notice every day at 4 a.m. our light comes on in our bedroom? Well, we have the electrician coming by. Tomorrow. He's coming by tomorrow. We ordered six new lights.

31:59Joe the electrician. Joe the electrician? Yeah. Oh, sorry. He may be coming by this afternoon. Please. He's going to try and squeeze us in. Please, please. I hope he can. Yeah, he's great, this guy. You guys know I'm pregnant with number two. And here's the thing. With Tate and with this next baby, I know that figuring out your feeding journey can be so stressful. Read the full transcript

33:53just comes on and I reach over and I turn it off. I kind of like it. It's kind of cool, but you're not noticing it? I do notice I wake up every day at 4 a.m., but I don't know if that's because you're peeing. I pee all the time, all the time, every hour. All right, so a girl DM'd me and said that, we'll talk about home renovations for a second. So was you bored? No, I'm trying not to laugh in my microphone. Okay. we um we okay home renovation so we're building a breakfast nook which i'm very i'm just i'm very excited about we're also to to warm it up a bit over there we're doing cafe curtains which i'm just thrilled about that's going to bring the room together i think that's going to be one of the more that will change the room significantly i have a question yes so on the breakfast nook we found We were going to do built-ins.

34:53Correct. But we found couches you can order that look like built-ins. Banquet seats. Banquet seats. Thank you. What do you think? I think once everything goes in, we should explore getting new material put on the banquet seats. So that's Supply Co. Remember they said that they can put cool funky materials on the furniture. yes they can reupholster furniture okay at the fabric what do we think about reupholstering the did you see the fabric store said they could put the fabric have you ever reupholstered furniture yes i've never reupholstered furniture of course you haven't that's cute about you because you're a guy not that guys can't reupholster furniture but it's like if we do this like stripes how good would that look yes you can 100 oh my god white and in maroon stripes but let me tell you something Jules?

35:49No, but a lot. That would bring the room together. A lot of times, Harrison, reupholstering is more expensive than buying it new. But the problem is we couldn't buy this situation. Like, it's not like we saw material we wanted. I think we're going to need to do it custom. And the banquet seats we got, I thought we got them at a good price. But I'm just telling you, reupholstering sounds really fun. It gets really expensive really quick. What do we think reupholstering the seats will cost? I think it'll cost$2 ,000. Because you have to buy the fabric per yard, so you buy that, and then you're going to take it to the upholstery place, they're going to upholster it, and they're going to charge you a lot.

36:26Okay, we're under budget by over$2 ,000, by the way, for that room. We are under budget by over? Right now, we're significantly under budget in that room because of what we ordered. Right, right, right, compared to building them custom. Yes. However I think with the banquet Or the cafe curtains are striped We ordered a new Giant floral couch Like we're going to have plenty of patterns happening I think we can afford some like muted Did you figure out the dimensions? Well I'm going to bring in jewels here Of what? The couch? Yes we did We actually didn't We completely winged it We took a massive leap of faith I was there when we ordered We 100 % were like that couch may be the wrong size.

37:20I've got pretty good conviction that it's not. Okay. But let me say this. We ordered it assuming it's a different size than was listed. However, what was listed is the same thing listed as the single couch. And this is a sectional and it does not have sectional measurements on the website. Yeah, but just to clarify with Jules, we never got confirmation. We took a risk. there is another sofa on the website called the denver sectional that has sectional um dimensions i think it's that just get but yeah we are we are taking a full leap of faith nobody has confirmed this okay anthropology said they would email me the dimensions but they have yet to do that so i don't know but if this couch is the dimensions that one of the couches on the website said it's going to be perfect but it's just it's a lot of pattern it's it's weird it's one of the first furniture items that has gone to you so i actually want to semi-pivot so let's call this phase three of home of home renovations that we're doing okay my favorite phase has been phase three because i feel like your involvement in phase three is like i feel like we've gone full 50 50 if anything 60 40 you me versus phase one phase two like you just weren't very interested and like I think doing all this stuff like as a as a pairing is just so much more fun.

38:47Well I've been gathering my ideas and I've really been having a problem with our main living room. I've had a problem with it since we moved in but I don't want to make rash decisions because this stuff's expensive and it's your house and so what started to happen was I saw how much we were home postpartum with Bubber and now what's approaching is I'm about to be home a lot again, postpartum with brother here in the belly. And so I'm like, what do I want? I want to warm this house up. I want more places to sit. I want to cozy it up. I want to add some drapes. I want to add some light fixtures.

39:20I want to add a TV in that room. Like I know exactly what I want to do, but like I sat on it for six months and now I know exactly what I want to do. Yeah. No. And, and it's been so much fun like to, to have you taken, taken charge on, on phase three. I did have a question. Oh, I think you know where we're going to need to loop jewels in? Where? The table. Yeah, we're struggling. Wait, if I have a question, you guys are going to get rid of your table? We're going to get rid of that table. It's too small. Bummer. Apparently Harrison thinks it's an outdoor table. I thought it'd be really cool for the new office.

39:53Yeah, I was going to say, where's the table going to go? I think it is going to be a, I think it's an outdoor table. It's an indoor-outdoor table. So you're going to use it on your back patio? Well, we're building a pool with all the... I don't know if that could go outdoor. Is there going to be a patio with the pool? Oh. It might be really pretty because blue water and then it's blue and green veining. It doesn't fit over there. It's too... We need a wood. It's too small. I just love that table. It's one of my favorite pieces. Yeah. I love it. I also think that in the new office with the old floral couch that we have at our house, it could be sick.

40:33but but that's also a table that i would keep in storage oh i know where it's gonna go did they take the desk at the very end no i think we haven't darn because the table could be sick there we could get rid of like i know yeah i think it could i think it could be really cool if you live for planning the perfect trip the thrill of comparing hotels prices scoring the impossible reservation, a piecing together of an unforgettable itinerary. 44:19And so, yeah, it's actually very different. And so it's like if you really, really care about the name and I don't, then run with it. The name is something we both care about. And so we'll land somewhere in the middle. The nursery, as long as it's functional and like the supplies are there, I don't care. Yeah, I just, I think that. Actually, I kind of, like, I want it to be special. Well, you want it to be cute. But I also trust that you'll make it special. But I feel sad for this girl because I'm like, and I know her husband's probably lovely, and she just meant nothing by this DM. But I do want her to know, if I said I want to do stripes and you said, I don't know if I want stripes, I'd be like, oh, sorry, we're doing the stripes in the nursery because I'm really excited about them.

45:07Totally. Unless you had some really, really cool idea. Or unless there was like a specific reason that like, yeah, I don't even know. But guys, sometimes I do think when you're having a boy, maybe she's having a boy, I do think dad might be like, what about a jersey? You know what I mean though? Like it could be something like that. But I think when it comes to the name, when it comes to, you know, feeding solids and sleep training and all of these things, I think those are a joint decision. Now I think when it comes to breastfeeding, that's a mom decision. Agreed on the breastfeeding. But the other stuff you talked about, I think a lot of it's like who cares more?

45:48Like who wants to take the lead? Like do both parents care about the process of introducing solids or does one parent care a lot more? You were our lead on food. That's true. I really cared about what she was putting in her body. And I loved that. I really, really cared. Everything I'd seen and read talked about the positive impacts of starting nutrition early or starting the right healthy nutrition early. And so that was something that – and I love that you encouraged me to take that and with our son as well. Yeah. I just – I think when it comes to decorating the nursery, I want her to get her stripes.

46:27Love it. Because she wants her stripes. His stripes. Well, I don't know if they're hers. They're her stripes because she's the one DMing me. Oh, I thought you meant our kid. No, I want her to get her stripes, right? She's got to make sure that painter's got good reviews. She could also wallpaper it. Her husband could also, you guys could do stripes at home. DIY stripes? Yes, they could DIY stripes. We watched Frank do it. He got one of those super long levelers, and he was drawing them off of that. it just took so long yeah no it definitely did okay one other thing that I want to discuss is so we're gonna have a night nurse we had a night nurse with Bubber I know that night nurses are a luxury they're something that are important to Harrison and I because I think when you're in this sort of entrepreneur space like we don't take like a full three-month maternity leave we both kind of work like throughout sleep's important to us it's just an area where when it comes to kids and when it comes to our yearly budget like we know we want to spend money on it um sleep is something we want to prioritize so we have found yeah and i we really understand how like the what a privileged situation we are to be able to do that totally but i also want to always paint a realistic picture of how we're doing things like you know I'm very um upfront about like we have Maria right we have a nanny share Maria's at our house three days a week she's not at our house two days a week Bubba goes over there like I don't want to ever be like we're doing it all and you're not like no we were you we definitely have help which is nice but um so the night nurse is something we did with Tate which I talked about I think we even talked about the cost of it when we did it with Tate um and it's something that we're doing again with this little guy I will say when you schedule a night nurse most of the time when you find out you're pregnant you actually get on their calendar for some reason like we actually feels like the cost of night nurses in austin have gone up so we've really been like dragging our feet on booking them um we found somebody we like really like you you actually found her through a friend um and it appears this night nurse might live with us she might stay in our new guest bedroom in the basement yes and so So we're excited about that.

48:54Yeah, I'm very excited that we have found our partner and we will. And the thing about the night nurse too is what we said with Bubber, and I don't know if you have new listeners, I guess we'll talk a little bit more about it. But what we did with Tate was before we had Tate, I always thought if I'm awake feeding the baby, he's awake feeding the baby. what we quickly realized with that is that just makes two tired parents so I have to be up in the middle of the night pumping or breastfeeding anyways Harrison would sleep through the night so me and the night nurse we did it she would stay awake with me during the feeds she would come get the milk after I pumped and so then whenever you know seven or eight o 'clock in the morning rolled around Harrison was on duty and I would go to sleep yeah and obviously like if you ever if I'm ever needed in the night like I am there like that yeah but I I did I thought previously before we had Tate I thought my stance was going to be if I'm up you're up and that's what I thought it was going to be as well and then I quickly was like no no because when you're in newborn land like you're both exhausted no matter what and whenever I would break down or I would just be like oh my gosh you know my stitches tore or something like that Harrison like had slept enough to he could be the sane mind and then that really was like able we were able to be more stable that way so one thing that we did and I just I wanted to like further discussion on how we think about night nurses her and I me and the night nurse we kind of do it while you sleep and then when the morning rolls around and she leaves I go to sleep and Harrison takes the day with the baby not the whole day but he takes like a couple hours yep so we that's how we hand off the duties.

50:42And it worked really well with bubs, but we always say to baby dependent, dependent on which child, what kind of kid we get guys, is your cupboard a graveyard of supplements with ingredient list from who knows where are you growing more skeptical of product label claims? Think clean, all natural made with real ingredients, et cetera. And you're like, who am I supposed to trust? What am I supposed to do? 53:00Because every time I did that with Tate, it went into her closet and then we missed the window. And I bought her like three different things that she never wore that I loved at the time because like you just kind of forget it. So for me, like I love a target run. I love hitting that right now. It's the 12 to 18 month window. And I ignore if they have something good for 24 months, I ignore it because I've been I missed the mark too many times on it do you agree? I really agree that you bought her this beautiful dress for her first birthday and you're like I want her to wear this when she's won in and around when she's won and you got it in Colorado when we were there and then her first birthday came and went and it wasn't until last night that you're like she didn't wear her dress like she's 16 months now like we completely forgot about this beautiful dress and do you know what Alex said?

53:48What? It didn't fit with the theme Well it didn't fit we had a rib first birthday theme and this is like a very princessy dress but like she would have been so cute to wear it and she didn't wear it so i agree with you on this now the other thing i want to discuss is you went and bought her cowboy boots the other day and like yes we made a video of this you made a video of this because i wasn't there her level of excitement when she saw the sparkles on the cowboy boots she loves these cowboy boots she's always going and picking them and bringing them over and wanting to put them on Like she's very proud of these cowboy boots.

54:24It's a great example of me going there and me doing something initially for me, but very much is something that she then actually liked. Like I was like, I want to buy her cowboy boots because like I think that's a fun like father daughter experience. Very much thinking like she's not really going to care. Right. We walk in that store. We go to Cavendish. The best. and I just let her go. We walk to the boot section and I'm just like, what's Bubba going to do? She beelines to these pink shiny boots. She grabs them. She takes them off the shelf and slams them on the little seat. The bench. Then when I put her on my lap and I put the boots on her, her face when this shiny pink boot landed on her foot was truly indescribable.

55:22She couldn't believe it. But what it is that we discussed is now she understands what she wants. So it used to be you bought things for you. Like when she was six months old, if I went to the store and picked out a pair of pajamas, that was because I thought they were cute. And now it's turned to where like she can pick out colors and things like that and she knows what she wants and i think it i think it's i've always said i don't understand buying like designer clothes for your kids that are so young like under one like why would we get her i don't know insert some designer situation there that would be for the parent right like that's shopping for the parents as opposed to now we're not bubber's not picking anything designer that's not my point my point is just now she goes to the store she's she sees sparkles and like she can pick them out.

56:12She like she likes things much more than she likes certain options a lot more than the others. And that's that is now a really fun thing to parent into. And I've always let her. How do we let Bubba find what she likes most? Well, there's power and choice at this age. Right. And I do think with her meals, we let her pick her meals. Now we let her. I always let her pick her outfit. We always let her pick her papados. Like, which ones do you want to wear and then she feels like she chose them yeah but I feel like now like I feel like before she was probably choosing more by chance whereas now it's like a lot more intentional well I don't know if you remember my videos early on but if I put something white next to something color is always always picked something color it's really cool yeah it's cool but I'm not surprised she picked the shiny cowboy she's happier in the boots than not in the boots oh my gosh she like carries them around the house she loves the i mean it's really cute to see like she loves these things and this caverners the full they had a full wall of like kids and baby boots so there's no shortage of options like and she kept going back and and one thing i didn't put in the video she probably took three or four sets of those boots of the same boots and put them out which is really cute yeah okay now we're gonna go to we already did bicker of the week so let's go to things we dm'd each other okay okay um ready oh speaking of me holding an ipad i love this one a mom on tiktok is going viral after admitting she threw her kid's ipad out the car window and the internet is very split now let me explain what happened she was driving to school her daughter was in the back with the ipad i think the daughter had had a crabby morning and the mom had said if you do something one more time I'm gonna throw your iPad out the window that the daughter did it one more time and then the daughter said see mommy I knew you weren't gonna throw my iPad out the window and the mom was like no no don't make promises you can't keep so she took the iPad and she threw it out the window now then I watched a follow-up video the mom got the iPad iPad is still intact the daughter knows she got the iPad because she didn't want to lie to her but the iPad now stays locked in a drawer like the mom drove back okay what is this think about this well it's the house divided most of the comments I saw the most liked comments were like you go girl like if you are gonna make a promise to your kid you have to follow up on it or else they're gonna think everything you say is just empty so this is a situation where like she has me on half of it but not the other half okay so the half that she has me on is like yes when you tell your kid you're gonna do something then you should do it where she loses me is throwing an iPad out a window is a very aggressive move.

58:59So like saying, hey, you're going to lose iPad privileges and I'm going to go donate it to the homeless shelter. Like that to me feels very appropriate versus like throwing it out the window. That feels rooted in like anger and like aggressiveness and like feels, that feels off. well the problem is I you don't you don't calmly throw something out the window like you throw something out the window when you're pissed and like that is really the the piece of the equation that I that that she loses me on well here's the thing I think she just said like if you say that word one more time I'm gonna throw that iPad out the window like I think she just said it and then the daughter did it again and then said I knew you weren't gonna throw it out the window and then in her mind she's probably like crap i have to throw the ipad out the window and i gotta give it to her because it's very much so you know if you don't change out of your pajamas we're not leaving the house all day and then the kids like then we're not leaving the house all day and then you're stuck at home all day but but i'm with you on that but don't make but we need to i think the number one thing because you and i aren't here yet in parenting we need to just know don't make don't say anything you're not actually willing to do like that's me but also like it sounds like it's aggressive.

1:00:21It sounds like she tossed it out the window but you have to remember too the iPad didn't even break. Right. So like she probably just tossed it in the grass and was like I gotta go back and get that. I can't believe I just threw the iPad out the window. Right. Okay. The second things we DM'd each other. A paid alarm clock is going viral on social media. You have to pay$10 to snooze it. How did we not think of this? I am livid. I am livid that I did not come up with this idea. Do you put your credit card in? Is it an app that you... I think it's like Apple Pay. Okay. Love it. So in order to silence your alarm clock, you have to double click face ID and pay$10.

1:01:00Yeah. Love, like I'm getting up. I'm getting up. I love it. I'm getting up every time. I am. I agree. How did we not think of this genius? The negativity and shaming on smartphones and boom. Phenomenal idea. Phenomenal idea. now question where does the money go to charity oh i don't know it better go to charity or i'm probably not or to the guy that created the app so maybe we create a competitor app where the money goes to charity yeah for five dollars five dollars to silence your alarm clock it also like could be fake who knows if i know if it's fake then i want to make sure that we do this because this is such a good idea.

1:01:43But here's my thing. And what scenario, because sometimes now I set, hold on. I set this morning, I set a number one alarm and then I knew I had another one coming in 15 minutes. But I guess with this, you just, you have to get up. But where I got to give you a lot of credit is you aren't a serial snoozer. No.

1:02:07And yeah. So this I feel like is a little more applicable to me than you. Like you're pretty good. Like when your alarm goes off, you get up. Yeah, I do. I get up. But I think if, yeah, so if you wanted to get up early for a workout class, this is great, a great way to hold yourself accountable because you're not going to spend$10 to go back to sleep. You're going to get up. Yep. Yep. Because I mean, that's two coffees. You know? It's one coffee in New York. One coffee in New York. That is facts. So it's like you're getting up out of that bed. because if you get a coffee and you snooze your alarm you're 20 bucks for the day and it's probably not even 8 a.m yet i had i have one other thing from the comments for you guys it's important and you guys both were saying it and i i don't know who got it from the other person but d d thaw where'd you guys get that oh that's me d thaw either it's either thaw or defrost this has happened before to me i said it on a tiktok people like we're not de-thawing on anything we're defrosting or we're thawing and it came from me i but you guys were both saying it like multiple times but i didn't you know me like that you just said three of the same words to me so yeah it's thought and obviously we're gonna thaw it out but i always say detail i don't know i i feel as though my mother or my father says detail i because in my it's a great word i stand by dethaw.

1:03:31Okay. We know what it means. Double it down. It means you're unthawing it, which means you're freezing it. It does. There was a word I made up on this podcast today as well. I'm not sure if you guys caught it. Massachusetts? Massachusetts. No, there was something else. I made up another word. I don't remember. I think I added like an ist to the end of something. Okay, Harrison's done. He's moved his mic. Okay. No, I have a meeting. I have a meeting. I'm sorry. You have a meeting in 11 minutes. I know. I got to prep for it. Okay, Harrison has to go prep for his meeting. subscribe to the podcast send it to a friend and remember that we love you please thank you we love you thank you I taught Harrison the word thank you so the irony of this is ironic thank you for listening thanks for listening to another episode of Two Parents in a Podcast powered by Just Media House if you enjoyed the show don't forget to like, subscribe, comment rate and review Stay connected on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and Facebook at Two Parents and a Pod.

This week on Two Parents & A Podcast, it’s one of those episodes where nothing is technically related… and yet somehow it all is. Very Friday energy (but HAPPY MONDAY!!!).

We kick things off with Tate entering her unzipping era (a big-girl milestone no one prepares you for!!!) and come to terms with the fact that we’ve officially become the parents we SWORE we’d never be (hahahaha). We have another SHOW REC (is this our new thing???) - His & Hers.. Then react to Matt Damon and Ben Affleck’s take on Netflix and filmmaking (I think we agree?? I mean we are to the point that Harrison bought a phone lock box sooooo).

Then it’s toddler parent life as usual: discovering that “tractor wheels” are apparently a food, relying on DoorDash as a legitimate parenting strategy, and settling a cohabitating Bicker of the Week we didn’t know we felt so strongly about (do you dry off IN the shower or ON the bath mat??).

Mid-episode chaos includes gym drama involving a smoothie bar heist (and learning about Harrison’s fascination with bank robberies?!), home updates (haunted light, breakfast nook plans, and our couch ordered on vibes alone), and a very real debate about whether Dad gets any say in nursery design. We also talk through our night nurse plan for baby #2 — why we’re doing it again and what we learned the first time around.

We close with Tate discovering SHOPPPING (hello sparkly cowboy boots), why buying kids clothes for their “future age” is a scam, a viral moment where a mom throws an iPad out the car window (we have thoughts), an alarm clock that charges you to snooze, and the comment section absolutely lighting us up over the word “de-thaw” (WOOPS).

LOVE YOU GUYS!
