Hi guys, welcome to the official Two Parents in a Podcast channel. Remember, like this video and subscribe to this page so you don't miss episodes dropping every Monday and Thursday. Welcome back to another episode of Two Parents in a Podcast. We are, we're just recording a little late today.

1:18We wanted to record last night. We landed from Miami at 530. The plan was we were going to come to the studio and we were going to record. But food poisoning, I don't know what I had, whatever I had was preventative of that because it was still lingering last night. Like it wasn't lingering in this. Like I have definitely stopped throwing up far 48 hours ago, the body ache of it all. And I think that's pregnancy. So I was just like, if I record it like this. So we didn't record last night. We were going to record this morning. and then this morning we will explain it later in the episode our sweet little bubber she took a little tumble she's got a little splint on it's our first injury um for our girl and first trip to the er first trip to the er and i know i know all parents listening to this you're probably like been there a million times it's still hard as a parent it's sad um but so we got that taken care of and now here we are we're recording the episode and we've got a lot of good a lot of good things to talk about yeah yeah okay you just want to dive into it let's do it um okay first of all if you're listening thank you for listening and please subscribe to the podcast and send it to a friend if you want we met a lot of you in miami didn't think i was gonna see like we went to charleston one time and met a lot of podcast listeners and that made sense to me south beach not not where i was thinking i was gonna find the parent crowd but turns out it was it was east coast winter break yeah can we get like a double check on that it was like fully a holiday going on down there it was and when we got to the hotel we got there we got to the hotel around 12 30 and we're like hey can we just like get on the list for early check-in and they were like no like we don't have a room available so i think three things were going on i think there was a food and wine show yes there was a boat show yes and i think there was some like school break going on there had to have been a winter break from new york like the the pool was full of kids were people getting out before that gigantic snowstorm well with their kids skipping school maybe there was a lot of people like i heard multiple people talking about and we talked to one of our friends too who extended their flight till wednesday because of the next layer of storm coming we probably talked saw 100 people from new york i don't know because the break was the 16th was last week yes but that's confusing because this was the weekend of the 20th Maybe they stayed.

4:12I don't know. It was Hoppin. Miami was Hoppin. But I love Hoppin. And we just had an unusual amount of people, of kids, I would say. Do you agree with that? Yeah. We've stayed at that hotel. This is now our third time. And I would never previously described it as like a family hotel. And it was a family hotel this weekend. Yeah, which was crazy. Yeah. Was that? welcomed it was very welcomed how was it for you yeah i think we like we went into the weekend with little to no expectations and so um here's where here's where i welcome it we can now well now my because we love harrison and i love miami one thing we love about it direct flight from austin you landed that you landed the airport we know right where to go we know all the restaurants i love to walk the cross the uh beach walk so like now i'm like okay so this can be our family vacation spot done yeah i i would be curious to know if we are back if we go back to miami at any point over the next 12 months that's just a light prediction did you not love it i mean it's tough to say like i had so much fun the day and a half we had because we relaxed by the pool we got to walk we got our coffee harrison like kept going to the pool bar watching the olympics the whole time it was really nice and then i got hit with like i cannot tell you how this this sickness situation hit me like i was in this polka dot dress so we had we had our fun dinner at carbone okay like truly one of my favorite dinners of 2026 so far and that's the place that just like it's it it just doesn't miss it's been around forever and the miami carbone doesn't miss it's perfect it was fun it was two and a half hours we we just kept ordering the waiters are so much fun there they're so fun they're like okay what are you eating okay here's what you could pair with let's move your salad to this course like it was just a blast of a dinner friday morning we had so much fun we went on a long walk we ate bread okay blah blah blah And then Friday night is when doomsday just like I was – we Ubered to the restaurant.

6:31Well, I think we should level – we should get back to how it all started. Okay. Friday afternoon, what do you do? Ate a grilled fish taco. And what did you say right after you ate the fish taco? The first bite. The first bite I said, that tastes fishy. Does that taste fishy to you? Here's what's weird. We ordered one plate of fish tacos. I had one and Harrison had one. That's the part that gets me. But I took one bite and I said, that tastes weird. And you were like, you were already done with yours. And I was like, okay, that tastes fine, I guess. I was so hungry. And so then I was like, whatever, I'll mow it down.

7:12Like, it's fine. And I ate the whole thing. And? And I got up from there and I was like, I just don't feel good. went back to the room to get ready for dinner and i was like still don't feel good took one of my nausea pills i took a half a nausea pill my because i'm prescribed them for pregnancy and a lot of times like when i eat when i'm pregnant things just don't hit me right so i take half the nausea pill then if you follow me on tiktok we make a tiktok i look totally fine in this tiktok yes my pill is in the system i'm like we're good to go we can go to dinner so harrison and i we getting the uber to dinner no no i'm gonna jump in okay so we're we call the uber and the uber like kind of misses the turnoff it doesn't kind of it does miss it misses the turnoff but like within 50 feet and i'm like i'm like oh he missed it let's just go walk and get him and you're like no i can't i'm too nauseous and so that was the first like moment of like true nausea of you like calling out the nausea yeah i went and sat i was like i gotta sit yeah and harrison's like we can catch this guy if we just walk across the crosswalk and i was like i can't walk across the crosswalk i have to go sit down right now so i go and i sit down and i i'm not like i can't look at my phone screen i'm just like oh but this isn't abnormal for me that's very important to note this is like this could just be another day and i'm like here we go again like the fish taco is not settling well but like this was first trimester sorry i cut you off but this was first trimester right and this is up to 18 weeks for me like another day like okay great so then I'm and then I even know I'm like if I do throw up I'll feel completely fine afterwards I just need to throw up and that'll hit me when it hits me so we get in the uber and the moment we get to the restaurant I mean I just like fly out of the uber and I'm just like on my hands and knees throw just getting this taco out I feel fine afterwards I'm like perfect we're good let's go to dinner.

9:08We go, we sit down at dinner 25 minutes in. I was like, I just like got up from the restaurant and I walked outside. And if you were in Miami and saw me in my white polka dot dress, walking across the street, throwing up in a bag as I was walking, I'm sorry about that. I had to do that. Um, and I just called Harrison. He could just hear me. He ran into one of my friends, Randy actually, um, from Oklahoma city who then lived in New York with us who now lives in Miami. and he was talking to her and I was on speakerphone and I was just like, I could not, I was throwing up. And he's like, I have to go find her.

9:43And he came and found me out by a dumpster, called the Uber again, not abnormal, called the Uber. We went home from there. I couldn't keep anything. I couldn't even keep water down. So the first thing we always look for is like, number one, cause I'm, because I'm pregnant. If I wasn't pregnant, like you just got to power through but number one we're like we don't want me to get too dehydrated number two my thing when i'm pregnant is my blood pressure is my blood pressure is low anyways it runs in my family but when i'm pregnant it gets really really low so if i get too dehydrated i start to see black and i started telling him i said i'm seeing a little black and then at one point i was thrown up every 12 minutes and he was like we got to go to the hospital yeah and i was like not in miami we don't and he's like we gotta go Alex because if you get past the point of no return like so I wore my pajamas in my robe yeah so what what I'd add to this is when we sat down at the restaurant I thought that that we were gonna have a normal night um I thought you you were you threw up and and it was past you and then like you got this kind of white look on your face and you bolted out and it was we just put in the order and so I still had to pay for the meal right and so I I um I didn't want like I was I thought because initially I followed you out of the restaurant yeah and I didn't leave a card and so I think they definitely there was a period where they would have thought we dined and dashed which we haven't which we haven't talked about and then obviously go back in I'm like hey like can we please get things settled she's outside and that's when i ran into your friend and i was like i gotta go so hopefully she didn't think i was i was being um no i texted her i was like harrison thought he was a bit um brief with you but i i said i spend the night in the hospital if that tells you anything um and then when we got back to the hotel when i noticed it was different was when you couldn't keep any water down that was when the spidey senses went off and that was a this is different um it's now been going on for you know multiple hours the pace of throwing up is accelerating and what i was most nervous about was at mid it was this was just around midnight was if you went to bed and things kind of went on that trajectory that we would wake up at four in the morning three in the morning in a bad place right and so it just felt like the time to like play offense on the hydration versus defense.

12:38And it turns out you were right because the thing is the blood pressure. And let me tell you what, there's nothing worse than Ubering to the hospital on a Friday night in Miami in South Beach because they're going to the clubs at that hour. So traffic, I mean wall to wall. Our Uber driver had lights flashing in the ceiling and I just get in and I'm like, she just looks at me and I was like, we had a girl, we had a girl, which was the biggest blessing. And I looked at her. I was like, I'm pregnant. I'm probably going to throw up on this car ride, which I did. I said, I will make it into this bag.

13:13I just need to go to the hospital because I'm getting really dehydrated. She's like, no problem. She ends up giving me wipes, another bag. Like we tipped her. Like she just, I just don't know that it got, like she probably has kids. It was like, I got you girl. Do you remember the path she took? I don't remember anything. She like, there was a bit of a backup. and she like backdoored through a parking lot. Like she probably saved us six, seven minutes, which like at that time of night in that like phase of it all was huge. So nice of her. Yeah, she was phenomenal. She was so sweet. She understood exactly what was going on.

13:53Yeah, like she was not alarmed by the throwing up, none of it, and she just could not, Like for us, all we get in Uber drivers in Miami are these guys. And they're great. But they're not going to want the pregnant girl in the back throwing up. Totally. And she just like got it and had these like doggy bags. I was like, do you need more? And I was like, I do. She's probably used to people throwing up in the back for other reasons. I bet so. But she's used to drunk people. What does comfort that carries you from morning to night feel like? 18:07Right? Like this isn't like a hospital trip if you're not pregnant, but they did, they hooked me up to these monitors and they were monitoring his heartbeat. And that's right. She was like, are you having any cramps? And I, I was having just like severe lower cramps, which are either from one of two things. One, you're in early labor or two, you're dehydrated. And it turns out I was just severely dehydrated, but she was like, I do have to check and see if you're having early labor. And then the other thing they have to check and see is liver function can come on. The doctor came in and she was like, okay, sometimes in the third trimester, if somebody starts to get severely sick and throwing up a lot, it's a liver function tied to pregnancy somehow.

18:56It's a blood test that they took. I didn't have it. But if so, she's like we you're gonna have to deliver and i'm like in south beach could just deliver this baby here on this friday night um and so that was anyways it wasn't like a comfortable trip to the hospital because i was just like sick a lot but we get pat we get through it we were there for 12 hours um got the ivs made sure baby boy was okay the nurses the doctors phenomenal as always like I cannot tell you just every time no matter where we go how great they are and then we ubered we ubered back to the hotel we were walking in and I was trying to look pregnant like I was trying to hold my robe the doorman's like are you two okay and I'm like I just had morning sickness to and he was like oh you're pregnant I was like what do you mean like I I thought that you could tell.

19:57So he just thought I was out all night in my robe. Well, where the situation was so different than last time is like, and I think you touched on it, you kept throwing up throughout the night. Like I couldn't believe how much you were throwing up. I did the math because it was 12 to 15 minutes because I saw the clock every time and I would look at it because I wanted to see the amount of time in between. I think I threw up like 62 times. it was truly unbelievable i was like i really was feeling for you when i talked to you guys i didn't realize that harrison ate the same thing but i just googled it and that's a non-pregnant person and a pregnant person could both eat the same thing and the pregnant person can get food poisoning from it while the non-pregnant person could not because your immune system is lowered and your digestion is altered.

20:54So you're more susceptible to foodborne illnesses than someone else. And your hormonal changes in your body also lower your body's tolerance for the symptoms that you're having as well. And so the symptoms are intensified. Thank you. I'm so glad you Googled this. Great, great. You have lower stomach acid. So then like things, higher chance bacteria can survive. And then yeah, your immune system is suppressed. Because that's what I was going to ask is like with the nature of like how we are living life right now like i don't think we'd eaten any form of different food over the previous 72 hours what do you mean like over the 72 hours before you got sick i don't think that you ate anything that i didn't also eat oh yeah you guys pretty much always eat the same yeah like even like when we went for dinner the night beforehand shared everything like we always like we share your diet your digestion is slower as well there's a bunch of factors it seems like part of what i thought is like given it was fish maybe it was cooked like part of it was cooked good other part well i don't know i actually guess i didn't i accepted that that was a reality with fish but i'm good to know that there's more detail yeah i just assumed that it was something that you ate and not him and that's why you knew it was food poisoning i was very i was confused by that you know how you and the way i the way i'm calling it food poisoning i think is like maybe i'm wrong but oftentimes when i have food the thought of that meal makes me want to throw up and we were guided to it at the hospital yeah like when when they asked what was happening but of course you can you never really know what these things yeah you never know oh, maybe I had a 12-hour something.

22:43But it felt food poisoning-esque. Pregnant women are 10x more likely to get listeria than the general population. Yeah, I mean, that's what they told us at the hospital. Like, to our best understanding, that is what happened. Yeah. It's crazy. Wild. And then we got back to the hotel and things, unfortunately, did not turn around. But I didn't throw up. I just had horrible body ache. And I think that's also like. You were bedridden. Yeah. I truly could not keep my eyes open. And I just slept from noon to 8 a.m. the next morning. And it was great. Listen, once you're throwing up that much, you're just happy to not be.

23:27And I had body ache and stuff. But I just, I had a heating pad. And I just. Harrison. What did Harrison do while I was down? I felt for you so much. And like your appetite. There was nothing you wanted to eat. We were just trying – you were on – what do they call it? The brat diet, rice, toast, banana. Applesauce. But we didn't do applesauce. Bread, rice, applesauce, toast. But the B can also be banana. Yeah. Yeah. Have you heard of the brat diet before meeting me? You asked me to Google it. No. Like when you asked me to Google it, I was like, oh, yes, this is a diet. But had I known about it before you?

24:05No. I've done the brat diet so many times in my life. um I think I just have one of those stomachs too like I've always got food poisoning twice a year um but what so Harrison he was like do you want me to stay in the room with you or what do you want me to do and I was like you know what I want you to go do something because what I want to do is turn my sound machine on I want to turn it out to 65 degrees in here and I want to pass out and he was like okay like because he you're so you are the nurse of the century like you are so sweet and you're like i don't want to leave you and i was like but now i'm asking you to like you've taken such good care of me i now need you to go and you did and what did you do well i just would yeah i didn't really do any he coded two apps he came back and he was like well i i want to clarify it's not like i like like i i would i would just check in every hour yeah no okay you made it seem like i like went out around i did he went out every hour what's the what's the The point is I didn't.

25:06The club's in Miami? No. He went and sat in the lobby on his laptop, but I made you leave the room. No, and yeah, I just toyed around with a bunch of new AI stuff. You're just such a goofball. It just turned into a bit of a, yeah. No, he kept coming in every hour and he'd be like, how are you? What do you need? And he'd bring me the whole brat diet every time. And he'd be like, please eat some of this. And I'd be like, I literally can't. He'd hydrate me. He'd wake me up, hydrate me, feed me, and then he'd put me back to bed. But every hour he would go back downstairs. He was just sitting in the lobby.

25:41And yeah, he was coding. He made two apps. Like, I don't even know. I don't want to make this about me. But it was cute. Like, it was cute that you're so like, that was what you were doing.

25:55I mean, these new AI models are just, they're so good. and I had a bunch of free time. And so I played around with them and I whipped up a couple of things. I sent one of them to Jules. Yeah. And I showed you one of them last night. Can you tell us about one of your apps? I'd rather not. They're just kind of fun. They were fun. What did I call them? Little Saturday pet projects. They were fun. Can we just please like a little detail? Could you see the details that I submitted to the app? That was the one thing I was curious about. Whoa, whoa, whoa. No, I did not. Oh. I was just submitting things and birthdays and names, and I just wondered if it worked, if you could see it.

26:43Which app did you send Jules? We can't be so vague. I sent her the memories app. It's a new year and time to get feeling like yourself. Okay, so he made one app. So I'll talk about the habits one, not the memories one.

28:13Because I think the memories one, actually, there may be enough meat on the bone on that that we do something with it. Okay. um but we're not saying it because we could launch it i i like i thought it was a pretty i thought it was pretty good okay um okay but what about the habits one you created the habits one for yourself i created the habits one for myself exactly because there were these apps that i really liked in the past that like track how much i was working out and how much i was eating and how much i was drinking but they all did it individually and so what i did is i just created one centralized app and at 9 p.m every day it sends you notification and it says the first notification it sends you is it says how many meals did you have today and how many of those are cheat meals okay and you enter that and then after that it asks you um uh did you work out today and if yes or no and if you did then it asks you to click a button on what type of workout it was like hit yoga run etc and then the third thing it asks you is did you drink today and if you say yes then um it asks you how many drinks you had and then there's like a master summary page which shows you like over the past um 30 days how what percentage your meals have been healthy what percentage of days you worked out and what uh percentage of days you drank um and yeah so for me it's just it was a personal accountability built off of like other previous apps i've used that didn't necessarily do exactly what i wanted and then um the and to be clear like setting this stuff up is like these new ai models just are so good for for all of it so last night they like they do all all of the coding but last night you showed me the app and basically you put in you had three meals you had a cheat meal what was your cheat meal i just like i snacked up a storm when we got home so i counted that oh you eat a grilled cheese okay so and then he said no alcohol and then what was the question oh did you work out yes you did a hit you did a hit workout yeah and so it just it calculated a percentage and it was really cool to see because i know what you're going to want to do every sunday you're going to want to look back at your week exactly and just how did i do exactly i think it's a it's just it was just simple so that's what he's doing literally for me that's what he did in the lobby was he made these apps for himself which i thought was really cute and he would come in and he would tell me about them um well what else like i i went for walks i went for a big walk uh both days and i listened to podcasts on the walk yeah but what else should i have done that's exactly i don't know anything you wanted to do i just didn't want you to sit in the room because i was i i was turning the room into a sanctuary a cold like I had a thing dialed in and so you also didn't want to be disrupted and I feel like I would have asked you 25 million questions you just inevitably would have I'd be like hey don't talk to me but once again I don't want to take this away from myself I don't want to take this away from you I make it about myself this was not my moment it just was a moment you're a champ as always And I'm sorry that you had to spend the mass majority of our baby moon or your baby moon in the hospital and in bed.

31:41Well, I'm sorry that you did too. It wasn't. But you know what? I still had a nice time. Like, I know we didn't have that. I know that, like, obviously that sucked. But, like, I still had a really nice time in Miami. And so. There's a couple. There's a couple things I want to discuss about it. About Miami. Yeah. We have a couple of topics that we wrote down and then we'll get to our fall of our sweet girl and then we'll get to things we DMed each other. That's the order of operation. Okay. So the – Can I ask the first question? Yeah. So I'm not sure if this is on people's radars, but Miami is a city where they auto add tip.

32:19So every bill you get when you eat out, they auto add 20%. What do you think of this dynamic? because this is how they do it in Asia. Like in Hong Kong, every bill you get, the tip is already included. But that's countrywide. Countrywide in Hong Kong, yes. So then they automatically know that. Yes. Because an outlier here in America is that it's auto-added. Now, I'm familiar with parties of six or more. We're going to automatically add 20 % gratuity. Like I do understand sometimes that happens. But most of the time in my everyday life, tip is not auto-added. so what I love to see when it is auto added and I think I made a video of this last time I was in Miami they weren't telling us it was automatically added so I do just like a hey heads up gratuity is added because what I've done before no it was in LA remember the three of us were in LA and they weren't saying tip is auto added I mean to auto add a tip in LA I forget that is outrageous so I would add it on top of but you flagged it to me right out of the gates here you said hey they're automatically adding 20 % to every tip.

33:27And I was like, thank you for telling me. Because sometimes I don't look. So yes, because the first meal we had, my jaw was on the floor with how expensive it was. And so I reclued in that that was the thing here. What I will say about it is for whatever reason, the dynamic of it being auto-added makes everything feel way more expensive than if you're adding the tip yourself. Yeah. And it's funny. Like we, I'll say this, we are always adding 20 % tip. Sometimes we do more. That's, that's like our, but the floor for us is 20. So like I, we're not talking about whether or not it should be 20 % because I, I absolutely think that that should be the standard.

34:11It's, it is the auto add. I, I don't know that it makes it seem more expensive or not. I just think I, I love when somebody flags it to me do you want to know apparently why they do it yes florida is ranked as the 48th worst state for tipping what in the u.s and so then these auto ads became a thing and it's because there's a lot of tourists there and tourists don't always tip because tipping isn't oh especially because in Europe. Yes. Tipping isn't a thing. Isn't the standard. So it's it's the 48th worst place for tips. Apparently you had to make systemic changes. Here's here's the kind of point that though that I'm that I'm getting at is like if and this may be a me thing but if I go for dinner and the bill comes to a hundred bucks or I actually think like a coffee may be better is like if you go and you get two coffees and it comes to 16 bucks you think that obviously expensive coffees but you think it's 16 bucks because when they auto add the 20 and it's 20 bucks like oh wow like 20 coffees if that if that lands and now if we're gonna get specific on what actually happened is there was a you know um we got an orange juice one morning and the orange juice was 20 and I couldn't believe it.

35:38It was? And I'm telling you now, that orange juice, that was a$20 orange juice. It was all, it sounded good and I knew they had fresh squeezed orange juice. I said, hey, will you go to the bar and get me an orange juice? My jaw was on the floor. $20 for the orange juice? Yeah, and now it was$16 but with the auto. Well, one, they have the accelerated sale. They have the high sales tax there and then I kind of think that all these hotels also add these resort fees. Yeah. Which like on all these orders, So I kind of feel like they also layer them on. But yeah, that orange juice,$20. But you know what?

36:09It was worth it because that is what you wanted. But$20 for an orange juice? Wild. That's wild. Yeah. What was the thing that was? Oh, the Pepsi. You know, I got a Diet Pepsi at one point. And that was$7.50. And I was just laughing to myself thinking, you know. But no, it was$7.50 plus the tip. It got up to$9. For one Diet Pepsi. That's insane. Here's my. The prices in South Beach have become crazy. Here's my issue, okay, is if you're going to do the upcharge, you can't do it on items that we know the price for. Right. Like we know you can go to Costco, Sam's Club, Walmart, Target, wherever, and get a big 24-pack of sodas for, what, under a buck per can?

36:59Yeah. Yeah. And if you get creative with it, I'm sure that – and buy them on sale or buy them in bulk, you can get them for even cheaper. And so like running a 10X plus markup is – just doesn't leave you good feeling with a good feeling versus if you're serving a Branzino like or salmon and getting it from the local fresh fish market. Like upcharge me on the salmon. Don't upcharge me on the salad. Don't upcharge me on – The soda. The soda. don't upcharge me on the soda well and we always say $4 no but we always say and please hotel have complimentary coffee or we will lose our mind yes we have a hotel that we love in our rotation and they do not have the complimentary coffee what hotel no because they we're not going to say their name because we love them we love them we've all been to this hotel all four of us that's your hint and they they they charge you for the coffee in the lobby it goes all over you you gotta beep it yes then you have to go to that coffee bar and you have to buy it and it's we'll just bleep that but it is it is this hotel does not deserve it or i would say their name.

38:25Here's the thing about cleaning products, you guys, you use them every single day on the counters where you prepare food, the laundry detergent, you wash your clothes in the floors, your little ones crawl in. And that's where branch basic comes in. And it is so important because especially as a parent, like your kids, they'll drop food, they'll eat food off the floor and you can't control it. Cause you weren't even over there. And so what you're cleaning your house with from top to bottom truly matters. And that is why I am so obsessed with the branch basics concentrate, you guys. And here's the problem.

38:56A lot of products look clean, but they still contain ingredients linked to hormone disruption, skin irritation, and respiratory issues, you guys. And in the U.S., cleaning brands don't even have to list every single ingredient. So you may be spraying and washing with things you'd never knowingly bring into your home. So that is where Branch Basic comes in. It is made from plant and mineral-based ingredients. It is human-safe and fragrance-free, making it perfect for families, especially those with babies, kids, or pets. And here's the good news. Branch Basics is now available everywhere you shop at Target, Target.com, Amazon, and of course, BranchBasics.com.

39:37Tossing the toxins has never been more convenient. And for anyone grabbing the premium starter kit, you can get 15 % off at BranchBasics.com with our code 2PARENTS. Just use code 2PARENTS for 15 % off the premium starter kit at BranchBasics.com. after you purchase when they ask where you heard about them please make sure to mention our show okay so i derailed us around the tipping but this hotel i will say their name the one hotel we went there we did not stay at the one we walked to the one because they do have the market table which is like really healthy fresh yummy food we did get two salads we were bamboozled we were bamboozled i think i think that that just like the math of of 118 dollars and 32 cents to build your own bowls yeah and a fruit and a fruit cup and he and he'd already put the order in and um when it came up i like felt too bad to um to double inquire but then i looked after and it said the build your own boy was$16.

40:47You looked online after. Online after. And it said it was six. So I'm not sure what happened, but I don't know. It felt the whole trip was just felt like there was a couple of upcharges, misleading interactions that I wasn't the biggest fan of. Yeah. Well, at least we got to spend the night in the hospital one night. I had a great time anywhere with you. Zoom is. No, same. Same. I'm not mad about it. I just it should be illegal for people to have prices like that there were some outrageous prices for very standardized offerings that was that was the issue that i had i think the issue the main issue was they have a chalkboard up there that says you know build your own bowl there's not a price on the chalkboard i'm sure there's a price on the handheld menu right and jules mentioned earlier like how panera bread was mandated to put calories on their menu i think that should also be illegal like i don't want to know and they have it they have that on calories now for like sweet green.

41:46I'm like, I don't want to know how many calories it is. Yeah. I'm not sure how we got so lost in the sauce on what the cost of that build your own bowl was. Cause I, I, I didn't think there's gotta be prices, but like somehow they were$60 a pop give or take. That's where we, I did add double protein, but like that can't be what did it. Oh, is that why? Well, I had chicken and eggs, but the eggs, like eggs can't be the same price as So the chicken upcharge I saw was$15. How much were the eggs? 15 extra dollars for chicken? I don't know. The whole thing was confusing. The line was big. I was like, how much are the bowls?

42:27He said$40. I'm like,$40? And then he said plus protein. And so I think it went 40 plus 15, which got you to 55 plus. And then I switched off of the bowl to get a little pre-made action. and that gets you up to 100 plus your auto tip and everything else. Boom. There needs to be a button though when you're like ringing. I think you just double head or something. But I think when you're ringing somebody up, there has to be like a button where the person that's ringing you up, like a use your own discretion button. And it's like, hey, they're ordering a build your own bowl and it's now above$55. Should we cap it?

43:05And the person should be able to say yes. Like, yeah, let's cap that. Like that's just, that's become absurd at this point. Yeah, or just like give us some guidance. Or he should be like, hey, just to let you know, your build your own grain bowl has now hit$65. I would love a heads up. Because then I would say, oh, I'll get something else on the menu. Oh, I'll pivot. On that topic, I get how fortunate of a situation we're in to be able to experience a lot of these things. And I think the call out is just very much so like when you're paying outlandish or when you're paying very expensive prices, is like you the expectation is to have an awesome experience and i feel like a lot of that didn't line up on this trip regardless of and this is all obviously before you you got sick no i think it's okay to say like yeah we went to miami during a crowded time and so the hotel cost was already high that's fine um i think it's also okay to say you can like two things can be true at one time you can have a hotel that's a nice it's a nice five-star hotel that we wanted to go to on our baby moon like we're two working individuals that have our own income we can do with that what we want you can also say if our grain bowl gets up to 65 that's absurd it's it's absurd 20 orange you're just like we can't normalize that thank you like you just you don't have to normalize that yeah i refuse to you have one more thing to complain about what the saving of the pool chairs okay this isn't a i don't know that this is necessarily this is a dynamic that i just think hotels need to be way more on top of and that is like if you are a high-end hotel you cannot create a dynamic where people are waking up in the morning and racing to save hotel chairs like that is is wild there was a hotel there was a um uh i'm blanking on the name of what they're called pool chairs thank you uh like there was a pool chair shortage at the hotel and everyone's waking up like running to reserve their pool chairs well here's what i think that should happen actually after further review because initially we thought okay there should be a 30 minute time cap on if you come down and you put your book you know in your ipad on your chair in the morning and then you disappear for five hours you know you go work out you go have breakfast somewhere else you go hang out with a friend and then you come back to the pool like is that allowed initially we thought we should have a 30 minute cap of a no-show and then your chair gets turned over here's what I'm also thinking though like we were room 409 okay what if room 409 had two chairs that said 409 on it I think the problem is they didn't have too many chairs I but like What about you have a room and then they ask you at check-in, do you want pool chairs?

45:56Could there not be some tie between rooms and pool chairs? Like overhead bin space? Yes. Even though that's not even reserved? It's not reserved, but you are limited to a carry-on. It's a great call-out. It's a great call-out that pool chairs have turned into overhead bin space. Yeah. I don't know that we need to be rushing down. We had to get down there at 8.30, put our stuff on, and then we were like, crap, can we go on a walk? So we went on a fast walk, and we came back because we wanted to be polite, and then we realized everyone in the hotel had reserved their chairs. Everyone was gone in the morning, and then at 10 o 'clock, people come down who actually want to go to the pool, and they're in their bathing suits, and there's no more pool chairs left.

Read the full transcript

46:40And I just felt bad for everybody involved. i i think the solution is like is you need to have more pool chairs i i think that that you don't want to like book your pool time on vacation right you need to have i i think kind of to go back to your earlier suggestion i think that every room needs hotel chairs okay but we googled it there's 350 rooms at this hotel you have to assume there's two people let's just assume on average two people in each room 200 there's 200 okay there's 200 sorry there's 200 oh the other hotel at 350 so there's 200 rooms at this hotel okay assume there's two people in each room on average so they're supposed to have 400 chairs but then what if some people are there for a conference and not coming to the pool yeah either way 400 pool chairs i hear this all like This is a common trend across most hotels, is that no matter if you're staying two-star, three-star, four-star, five-star, these hotel chairs and reserving them is a thing.

47:52Yeah. And the hotels, we need a better system. No, I agree. We need a better system. I agree. My big thing with it, my question with it, This isn't a complaint that I have at all. But my question is like, you know, are we allowed to save the hotel chairs? Are you allowed to put your sweater on there? Go on your walk? You haven't even changed yet. And I'm guilty of it. I will wear my workout gear. But so is everybody else. I think you need to, you can't be away from your hotel chair for more than 30 minutes. You know who else does this though? Who? A lot of, like Terry Black's doesn't have a sign, but I still abide by the rule here, which is you must place your order before you sit down, you know, those restaurants.

48:38And you go like Chipotle style. So you order in the line, like Terry Black style, barbecue style. You go through the buffet, so to speak, and you can't have somebody go reserve your chair. I think that is one of the most well-respected rules, though, that exists. Like people, when they're at Terry Black's, I feel like they know. oh they come correct they know you do not go get your chair before you have to wait until you have your food but i guess to the listen you have to wait until you have your bathing suit on to get your pool chair and i'm i like that i like that you can't reserve your pool chair until you have your bathing suit on and for us we reserved it in our walking clothes we were one of the guilty see people because the day before but we were back within 30 minutes so i i wanted and i sat there and i read and i i thought i thought we had a good job showing face at the pool you you spent more time at the pool than i did i know but i was torn i was like what do we do here so i don't know people might have something to say but i do think there's probably a case for some hotels are like You can't put your stuff down and leave.

49:49Yeah, I don't know. It's a tough pill to swallow. Okay, next topic on this. I can't complain one more time about one thing, and it's airport lounges on here you have, and we're not doing it. Yeah, I already felt like we were getting too complainy. I absolutely. You know what? Let's do some pros. Give us a highlight of the trip. Carbone, 12 out of 10. Weather phenomenal. weather unbelievable people just the people in general the vibe i didn't open a door they were like they saw me come they were everyone was so sweet we talked to a lot of really great people at the hotel okay i have a uh a pregnancy etiquette question okay okay so we're in an elevator it's you me and one other guy yeah okay you are pregnant correct he holds the door open for you you go out first should i let him go out first or do i follow you this is how i would assume it would go i would say if i were you right so he holds the door for me and i and i take it and so i go out then it's you and him left i assume you say thank you for holding that please go ahead and he'll say no after you.

51:07And then you go. I agree. That's what I would do. Okay. Because he's not going to, he's already so polite and understands manners. He's not going to put space between you and I. And I'm allowed to accept that. And you need to accept that. Then you're being rude if you get into a standoff with him. And then you're in the standoff, which is unnecessary. You let him go. Now, the secondary question is if there's two other people in the elevator. Okay. And you go up first. Do you leave as a couple or do you let, so do I follow you out or do you have the two other people go out and then you go out? Is one of them a girl?

51:50I think if.

51:57Okay. There was a lot of manners going on in Miami. And I thought the manners were great. They were great. And this dynamic played out a lot. so let's say scenario one yes there go i think it goes i go and then you pause and you say you know ma 'am and then he'll probably again have you go and then him yes and if it's if it's guys i assume i don't know you guys figure it out but what you should not do because what they're trying not to do is put space between you and i so you get one like i i think that there's a point where you can become rude of like please go ahead please go you just take it yeah so say thanks guys yeah so if if you go up first and it's like me the guy holding and two other guys then i'll follow you if it's if it's um woman then i will i'll ask them to go first yeah and if she says go ahead then you need to go you need to go you just need to thank you yeah okay thank you and everyone have a great day okay so we're on the same page with all that because like i would not go before that guy so if i wasn't pregnant and there was a pregnant girl in there and she went and he said for me to go ahead.

Yeah, and even to the point at the airport when boarding a lady, there was kind of some confusion going on as to what was going on with the line situation. No, our flight was delayed already. And so they said, we're going to do something weird here, but we're going to just kind of like board everybody. so what happened was that created a massive chaotic line at all at once where we because I'm all for I always say we're going to the back we're not cutting people but we were we were group two and we were so we were coming in and then they boarded everybody on the plane which made this like massive thing and group two was like starting to to wind it around and every this this lady finally stopped and she said I think she looked right I loved her she said I think you should go next and like pointed at me and i was like i'll go i was like sweating and then she said and i think you should go with her if you're with her and it was you and if you're not with her then don't and i looked at her and i said i like you thank you and then we went on but she she was nice and like she just stopped the whole line and said i think you should go next and i was like i'm gonna take it because i always let people go yeah and and and then the last thing i'll say is like the vibe in Miami restaurants like there there's nothing else like I mean the vibe of the holistic city like you you really you get there and you feel like it's so easy to get into vacation mode like so there's so few places um I find often when you travel somewhere it can take you a while to like really get in vacation on Miami you get there right away it's my biggest It's what I think is the biggest misconception with Vegas and Miami is this.

55:45People think it's a party city, but both have fabulous restaurants. They have fabulous pool areas, and they have fabulous vibes. And I think that you can, like, to Vegas, right? You don't have to go to Vegas and only party. You can go to shows. You can go to concerts. You can eat exquisite dinners that are, like, fun with, like, really upbeat energy. And Miami, to me, is the same way. like people in Miami are really healthy so that trail is packed at 7 a.m. amazing it's a great trail it's packed at 7 a.m. and it goes for miles amongst the palm trees on the beach with hotels on your right side like it's amazing it's a great trail yeah so I think that it's um a blast okay moving on to our bubba raider our sweet sweet bubba raider so what happened was this morning our sweet girl she was in her playroom and she had a standard stumble off of her new play set like a very standard stumble but she usually and bubber it's not a stumble because it's not that she's accident prone it's that she's adventurous our little girl and so she took a little fall off of it and we were like this is what happened toddler's fall but she cried a little longer than normal.

57:01And then we looked at her wrist and it was a little swollen and it had a little bruise on it. And we were like, Oh, did Bubber, did Bubber do a, did she land a little bit wrong on that? And then we noticed she wasn't using it as like, she stopped crying completely, but she wasn't using it as much. So we were like, better safe than sorry. We're going to take our girl and go get it x-rayed and Dell children's in Austin. I mean, how many stars are you going to give them? You can only give him five, but I wish we could give him six. Yeah. I mean, what everyone this morning was so incredibly helpful from like the check-in station to the triage nurse to the nurses taking us into the room and then obviously the doctors.

57:51Yeah. It was. And even they make the x-rays fun for him. All the machines were just like kids. and so kid-friendly dogs everywhere. It was like... And you say, what does the lion say? Like you had so many things to talk about. They had cute little music playing. And it turns out... And Harrison and I, we were like, you just never know, you know, like because kids are going to fall. They're going to get bruised, X, Y, Z. It's called a buckle fracture. And they said this is so common in toddlers, so common in the wrists. So she has to wear a little splint on her wrist for what it's probably going to be four weeks.

58:30And at first, cause it Velcros, which is really fun for bubs right now. So she wants to take it off and she wants to un-Velcro it. And I said, what if we got Dada a splint too? Then Bubber would think her splint was really cool. So we asked him, we said, Hey, if you have one in adult size, could we have it? And they were like, we do have one in adult size. So it was really cute. We watched her going from like, she wanted to take it off. And then we would say Dada's cast, Bubber's cast. And then we would cheers the casts and all of a sudden Bubber thought her cast was so cool. So I'm going to wear the cast at home.

59:03Yep. And I've ordered a cast and we might get Winnie a cast. Everyone on our street might just have one. The, um, cause I think it's really confusing for her because like she can still use her hand and, but it's just, there's certain, there's certain things that when she does them with her hand, they hurt her. Well, and here's the thing. And so I think like that is really confusing for her right now and and so that's obviously really sad but 17 month old kids are constantly tripping and so where where she needs the cast is if she trips she knows to land on both hands which is never a problem but now because she's got her little bruise and her little buckle fracture it will hurt more so that's where that's where the splint really comes into handy yeah and like obviously it was it was super sad to see but also understanding like when you have a um a toddler and they're love to run around and play that that unfortunately um unfortunately these these things will will happen but i gotta um i gotta give you credit where you know you know i think the question comes up like well what like why did we go to the hospital and i think it's it's and how did you know to go especially when she stopped crying and just the in like the um and it kind of goes back similar to to the youth throwing up is like the question is this different and it it felt it it was different it felt different she was doing something different with her arm and there was there was the bruise and obviously like the bruise was different but she's also had bruises before yeah it was a little swollen yeah and and i think that that's your telltale sign and then what i think you had to ask yourself when i'm throwing up is like does this can this get worse before it gets better yes with this i was like if she trips again she's gonna trip today like she is always landing on these two hands she loves to get on and off the couch like this and i just thought if there's anything wrong with that this day it's just gonna hurt her all day and you want to stop the hurt yeah and so the brace really helps that yeah but it's it is it's the first time we she's been to the er um and in her life and so it was like but we also recognize like something something was different yeah as obvious as that may sound no but in but where i'm proud of us is like we just we we recognized it we have to go to the er because that's where you have to go like the er sounds so dramatic but that's where you go when they have a bone problem and then we got it taken care of and like she's got her cast everyone was really sweet to her like there's a lot of silver linings in it but it's still sad to see your sweet little girl hurt very very sad i think the other piece that's worth noting that i think was was um different than what i would have expected and i think why i made my previous statement is she really what like she wasn't hysterical she was acting like completely normal other than limiting her use of her hand so it's It's not like she fell and was like crying endlessly.

1:02:27Right. She stopped crying. And so you did need to dive a level deeper and really examine what was going on to identify that like action needed to be taken. But you could tell too like she wasn't – she was using her – she was using her hand still but not to a normal degree. Like she loves this Caminando song which means to dance – like to walk. she has this song she loves in Spanish she would come over and grab my phone with two hands to ask me to play it but she was favoring her left hand or her right hand and she's all good and very thankful for the medical staff what was it like when she got her x-ray because I couldn't be in the room because I was pregnant how did they do it?

1:03:16did they lay her down? they laid her down she was just like really confused with all the different machinery going on and so i think that that was that was scary for her but they did a great job keeping her calm and but they laid her down they didn't just take her arm yeah like she went fully on like this oh and had a little x-ray taken yeah and they showed us her x-rays and her little armies aren't even fully developed like they were like you know we're still waiting i was like that's so cute yeah it's so little compared to our x-rays yeah um but the fact that yeah i mean they're like we've got apple juice we've got this we've got that and so they were just they were so nice and um very thankful for them but the best i think i think my number one tip like i don't have like we were just number one learning my number one learning is if you know your little one ends up in a splint and she's in the smallest one they have if it didn't fit she was gonna have to get a cast put on which i didn't want to get a cast put on because i forgot about this did you ever have friends in cast and they can't get them wet yeah and they had to wrap them and i was like oh i don't want to do that but um is get mom or dad a cast also like that just turned it around for her she was like what is this thing on my arm and then she was like dad i has one too this is really cool yeah i was like that is rad girl i'm gonna get one too and we're all gonna wear we're all gonna wear casts splints um okay we're now gonna move from that have you ever broken any bones um yeah i mean same thing as bubber she may get her wrist for me i've never broken a wrist i have broken my nose three times and i did have to wear so one was basketball one was cheerleading what was the other one can't remember when you break your nose the roof of your mouth hurts oh so bad and i had a nose cast with two like firm firm firm cotton balls stuck up it oh that was that was in third grade and I was a base of cheerleading and my best friend was actually the flyer I think she did a full down it wasn't her fault it was my fault and I got hit in the face punched terrible knocked out um but other than that like I've never broken legs or so you've never had a cast oh I've had a cast on my nose like a cast people could sign no have you yeah what color did you get oof I feel like you you could change the color of it so I feel like I got maybe you could go get it wrapped you'd have to go get that's sorry that's what I meant is like I had to go get it wrapped or maybe it happened reset or whatever yeah but I think I had green I recall there being a purple one oh um yeah If I was thinking Bubba would get pink.

1:06:12Okay, things we DMed each other. A listener, Kate, DMed this to us. I actually also got served this on my feed. Harrison and his girl dad friends should absolutely partake in an event like this. And it is welcome to pints and ponytails. It's the cutest thing ever. It's a bunch of girl dads lined up. And they're not doing their daughter's hair. They're on a mannequin. And they're learning how to do ponytails, pigtails, maybe even braids. Yeah, I love this idea. Yeah, like it's a no-brainer. I have no idea how to do a ponytail. I really want to be able to do her hair and why not make a fun night of it while actually figuring it out.

1:06:48So this is a no-brainer. I think we could also incorporate a competition. Best pigtails wins. Can you use the rubber bands with the bows on them and can you get the bows facing forward? Fastest pigtails. That's a good one, Jules. Fastest pigtail wins. That's going to be key. These girls are shifty. Can you learn how to do a straight part? This could be like a little birthday party for Harrison. Oh my gosh, your birthday party. What about that? Your birthday party is coming up. Done. It also, I mean, they have something intense going on. We should show this photo. Yeah. Like they have their ponytail divided into, I mean, this is like, this would be intense for me.

1:07:25So I mean, this is a really cute idea. Like really cute. Okay. Now for the last segment, things we learned this week. so children do not relax like adults do adults downshift with stillness calmness laying in bed we all know it right but kids downshift with movement okay so they clear stress out by running wrestling stomping laughing jumping things like that silence doesn't calm them the silence actually traps their energy. Like I had no idea. Bubber calming down is her jumping, is her doing a ton of movement like that. That's what de-stresses her. Silence doesn't calm them. It traps their energy.

1:08:16That's so good to know. Like these little, these little kids, they got to get it out. Yeah. It's, it's, it's great to know. And it's another, another learning and reminder on, the importance of reading your child and not trying to apply the way we think about things or the way we do things on them and recognizing their own unique personalities and characters based off of their age and their development. It's why I love learning things like this because I wouldn't know it and if I guessed, I would get it wrong. and it just it's the more you know yeah and so i think things like this are they're so helpful and like that's that's what i call snack size content right there yeah just a little bit and you learn so much um i want to talk about the olympics really quick before we sign off wanted to say something i was just going to say what the post says is that you should see your bedtime in two parts and your part a is having fun time before bed to let your kids get the energy out okay and then part b is just your normal bedtime routine which is funny because we talk a lot about that normal bedtime routine but I think the thing that we haven't talked as much about is um the walks is how she goes for like she goes outside every night before bed and I didn't realize that was part of her bedtime routine she goes outside every so my I don't know if we've said this but my parents stayed with her before while we were in Miami and my dad said one night she asked for five nighttime walks five and he went with her on five walks he was like we went on five walks tonight because we have a little lap that we do and girl loves loves her loves her her outdoor walks and her lap she went on five laps and i think that that's and then she comes back and does her bedtime routine but now we know the walks are beneficial yep and she asks for her comminando song she comes over and stomps her feet oh the comminando song is so so adorable walk hop jog um okay olympics give us your takes sir well you know i got i got some funny text messages it was funny like i actually got four text messages okay when um america beat canada in hockey yes and it was you i was i was at a commission but you watched at the hotel bar and i assume you're the only canadian where everyone else was going for usa no there was um I funny enough, there's a guy that I went to college with who was there.

1:10:43And then these three people sitting in front of me who were from Montreal got Quebecois. And they were they were yelling at the TV in French. They were unbelievable. Oh, that's amazing. Yeah. Yeah. So what are your Olympic takes? So I think that that yesterday's game was ultimately very good for the sport of hockey because it put a lot of eyeballs on the game. and showed how exciting it is. And I think this is kind of reigniting or putting a ton of substance around what will be a real multi-year rivalry between Canada and the US, especially now we have the Four Nations Cup that you'll see every year.

1:11:28And I think it's only going to get more exciting when Russia comes back into the mix, which I think may not be on everyone's radar, is like there is a third powerhouse. And like as it goes to the specific game, like ultimately this is a game where when the lights are shining bright, you got to be able to put the puck in the back of the net. And one team managed to do that better than the other last night. Here's what I, you want to know my fun fact about hockey I learned? I did not know in the Olympics they could not fight. Which they need to change. They need to change. The two things they need changed, they need to bring fighting back.

1:12:11It's an amazing part of the game. And they need to put overtime to five on five. And honestly, the five on five overtime for me is it's like, I'm not going to point to how the outcome would have differed. I just would have liked to have seen more hockey. And in three on three overtime, the game ends so fast because you're always just essentially one odd man rush away from a team scoring. And that with so much open ice happens really fast. I thought the American goalie had just an incredible game. The American goalie was incredible, but the whole American team played incredible. America plays very good two-way hockey, and Canada played a lot of one-way hockey, and that was very prevalent on the last play when we took our time getting back, and yeah, they were tired, but there's a really bad clip going around right now that shows our guy dogging it on his way back.

1:13:09Yeah, listen. I don't even know what I'm going to say here other than I also thought it was really cute that they took Johnny Grido's kids on the ice after they won. Phenomenal moment. Phenomenal moment. He gives me the chills every time. Phenomenal moment. Obviously, super tragic story and really nice to see the respects that were paid from the team to their good friend who would have been on the ice with them. Also, yes, completely agree. And the other thing I learned is, and I saw the most light comment on that post was Johnny Grudeau is an Olympic champion, which I thought was so sweet. Like he is one.

1:13:43Do you remember the movie Angels in the Outfield? Yes. And how, so there's a clip going around right now and on McKinnon missing the shot. It's like Johnny is an angel coming in and like deflecting the puck wider than that, which I thought was really sweet. That's really cool. Yeah. Okay, we're going to wrap up there because we got to get to editing. By we, I mean peace. Got to get to editing. And we love you guys. Thank you for listening. Sorry the episode's out late. This week on Two Parents & A Podcast, we’re recapping our BABYMOON in Miami… which did NOT go exactly as planned (read: food poisoning + a hospital visit) — but somehow we still had the best time!! 🤍

We start with the biggest surprise of the trip: Miami Beach being way more family-friendly than we expected (aka we’re already picturing trips with BUBBER and the new little guy). The first day and a half were AMAZING… and then things took a sharp turn. We break down the food poisoning saga, whether it hits harder when you’re pregnant, and the aftermath that involved the BRAT diet, a cold/dark room, and accepting that sometimes your body just decides you’re done for the day (all while Harrison casually coded an app???).

From there, we spiral (as we do) into all the debates we had on the trip: is automatic gratuity fair?!, whether Miami prices are actually unhinged orrrr if we’re just being dramatic, and the eternal question — is it ever OK to save pool chairs at a hotel? (Please weigh in.) And OF COURSE, we share our favorite parts of the babymoon — because we’d ABSOLUTELY recommend it if you’re planning one. (But we need to say… sorry in advance if we did a little too much complaining this episode lol).

Monday morning brought our first-ever trip to the ER as parents. We share what that experience was like and the #1 thing we learned.

We wrap Things We DMed Each Other with Pints & Ponytails (aka Girl Dad Bootcamp), talk about why kids unwind completely differently than adults, and close out with Harrison’s thoughts on the USA vs. Canada hockey game (I got so many messages about this).

LOVE YOU GUYS. Thanks for listening
