In short
Two under two update—first two weeks with a newborn and toddler, breastfeeding/pumping realities, “dad brain”/parent brain research, household dynamics (divide-and-conquer), routines, and Mother’s Day/push present gift ideas.
Guests
No traditional guests. Hosts are Jules and Harrison (podcast co-hosts). Alex appears as the “listener in the studio” and is the second-time mom sharing her postpartum experience. Tate is the toddler; Rocky is the newborn.
Guest backgrounds
Alex is a second-time mother (previously breastfed/pumped with Tate). She’s currently 10–11 days postpartum, breastfeeding and pumping, and managing toddler care while healing.
Key claims
- Second-time moms may produce more milk and feel more engorgement/pain; Alex reports no “deamer” (emotional letdown wave) this time.
- Advice: don’t adjust pumping/supply for the first six weeks; if needed, “pump to relief” (not full drain) to avoid engorgement/mastitis.
- “Parent brain” includes gray-matter changes reported for moms; dads may experience forgetfulness too.
- Household strategy: Alex leads with Rocky; Harrison leads with Tate; routines work best when Tate gets collective time with both parents/babies.
Notable examples
- Tate’s morning choice: “who do you want to see—Rocky or mama?” (she always chooses Rocky first).
- Bedtime change: Tate and Rocky are put down separately to prevent Tate feeling left out.
- Mother’s Day ideas: personalized BobbleBar phone case/necklace; “shopping together” plan (flowers/card + scheduled outing).

0:38Kraft Mac and Cheese, best thing ever. I can hear him. You can hear Rocky? Yeah. Okay, well, we have Rocky in the studio. He's hanging. Is this Rocky's... Did Rocky come to the studio before Tate? Has Tate ever been to the studio? Yeah, she was here and we moved in. okay so she's had one appearance yeah so they are they're at one one-to-one so we have rocky in the studio today jules in the studio today and alex as a listener in in the studio today but once again well i have a mic i will be hosting and here we are what how do i shut this off again Harrison come on welcome back to another episode of two parents in a podcast good job featuring one parent on camera and one parent off of camera correct because I'm here I'm holding the rocks we got a lot of stuff going on and I think the way we'll start it off we'll give the IRL rundown and then talk about really what the first two weeks of of two under two is like i've given you some notes on breastfeeding okay but i think like most things where and then we'll get into uh get i've given i've given you notes on wait get into some q a and then she's just a natural she's just a natural i really knew when alex was coming i was like no i'm not gonna talk No, this is all you.
2:18It's what you want to do. It's all on what you want to do. I just want to make sure we give the listener the notes that I gave you about breastfeeding and how I've been feeling mentally. I just want to make sure we give that. Perfect. And we will make sure that all of that is covered because what you want is most important. No. And then we'll get into some Q &A and then a couple things that Jules and I DMed each other because Things We DMed is featuring her and I this week. Wait, have I been cut out of the DMs? No. No. You're there. I'm just trying to keep it too. I'm really not on my phone a lot.
2:51I think everyone – one thing that I'm doing when I pump in the middle of the night and whenever I – just all day is I'm reading a book now and I'm not scrolling. What book are you reading? Next to Heaven. That sounds like a religious book. It's very much so like a fictional – it's really good. I don't know how to describe it. Okay. I don't know the genre. It's funny. It's like at this point, like why not just have a camera on you? I look like I just, I mean, I don't care. I could care less if we have the camera on me. It's just. Okay. So let's, let's keep building off of that. And she looks great.
3:33And you know, you look amazing. Thank you. You truly do look amazing. But I would not say I would, I would not say I look camera ready. Okay. Harrison's not going to say that. I'll say it. I don't look camera ready, but thank you. Agree to disagree.
3:49So why don't we start off with the breastfeeding? And I hate to do this, but I feel like there is no one better to talk about your breastfeeding journey than yourself. Okay. Well, I will say everyone tells you with the second baby that you make more milk. And I was like, that won't be me. But I'm definitely making more milk, which is amazing. Like we already have a freezer supply. but with that comes more pain I would say because your boobs fill up faster and bigger and so I had to get new bras and I've ordered like new tank tops and things and it's just like a little bit more painful but I don't have deamer which is really nice and if you don't know what deamer is that's the thing that I had with tate which is like when you get a milk let down it can show open different ways, which sometimes is, um, you get like a wave of sadness.
4:41You get a wave of thirst. You get a wave of anger. It can be all these different things for me. I just had a wave of like flatness and I would just be like, Oh my gosh, what's like, I just sort of a days is how my DMR showed up. I don't have that this time. And I'm actually enjoying breastfeeding and pumping at this moment. We're 10 days in how many days? 11. So that's, that's my 11 day intake. will I be enjoying it in two weeks I don't know but right now like the pump is not my enemy breastfeeding is going really well um he's a good latcher I'm making a lot of milk but when I start to get up and out of the house like will that start to drive me a little more crazy I don't know so stay tuned but Harrison and I did google last night can you hear him breathing that's so cute um I can hear it it is really cute though oh he's just drinking a bottle and like cooing or snorting kind of, but we Googled last night.
5:35So I don't know if this is accurate or not, but for the first six weeks, don't mess with your supply. So like leave it be. And then if you want to sort of wind it down a bit after that, like pump every five to six hours, what you do is you don't pump to completion. So you just pump to get relief. Maybe it would be like 10 minutes and then you could sort of slow your supply that way. So that might be something I do, but it's looking like the pumping will go on for six weeks at least i was going to state my observation but i think much better coming from you on like how it feels second time versus first time and are you a lot more comfortable are you a lot more confident overall just yeah i think i'm definitely i'm definitely more confident and it's so much more it's so much less unknown.
6:25Um, and it's easier this time around right now. Um, and I'm just throwing the pump on and I'm enjoying reading my book while I'm doing it. Like I'm enjoying it right now. And if there comes a time where it feels like a job, I'm going to reassess, but, and it will, I'm not going to do it for six months to a year this time. I can, I can already say that, but as of right now, it's going well. And the only thing is this, I think I'm hungrier this time than I was last time. I have been ravenous and meat doesn't sound good. Protein doesn't sound good. The only thing that sounds good is like overnight oats, um, pancakes, the peanut butter.
7:11My friend Olivia made me these lactation bites, brownies, cake. That's the only thing that sounds good. So, and I'm eating just trail mix with M &Ms in it. Like I'm eating a ton of that and I feel like I can't get full, but I do think it will level out. Well, you're doing a phenomenal job. We have a ton of milk, which is great. It's nice to not be what, what happened with Tate was I was bottle for bottle and somebody messaged me and said, you need to reframe. You weren't a just enough. In fact, your body made everything she needed, which was, which is a really sweet way to look at it, but said differently, you're always on the hook for the next bottle.
7:43And with him, i mean we got plenty what did what sorry what did you mean by the six weeks you said something about six weeks that you might be pumping until six weeks so what we what we read about last night was basically don't mess with your supply for six weeks because it can cause like engorgement or mastitis like you can get an infection oh so just make what you're making there's some added color is i think that that that may not have been shared alex had was had voiced concern that she was producing too much milk and it was like and so the question is oh i'm producing too much milk every one to two hours like i now need to put them on the buber pump what what do i do about it and so we went to claude and that that is what was learned okay that's what i was confused on so you're gonna just stick with how it's going for six weeks and then you can make adjustments after that if you need to yes because there's a way jules when when you're pumping and stuff that you can kind of adjust your milk supply you can scale it up if you need to you pump more or if you want to scale it down you can pump or feed less because your body may every time you drain it signals to your body you need more milk make more milk so if you go six hours without pumping your breastfeeding your body says we don't need to make as much so i was saying should i start to do that and what claude said was no because then you can be at risk for engorgement or mastitis which is like a bad it feels like the flu so they're saying don't touch it for six weeks let your body do its thing and then you can start to adjust okay that's what was missing and the main adjustment strategy that they shared was pump to relief is what it was called meaning right now i pump 20 minutes, but I feel relief after nine to 11 minutes.
9:30So I could just pump for nine to 11 minutes and that wouldn't be a full drain of the milk. And then my body would say, okay, let's make a little less. Got it. So the other big development over the past week is, uh, Alex has started to want to go for walks. So we've been going for walks and there were two, uh, two subject, two pieces of subject matter from our walk today that I think was worth discussing that were not on the docket. The first is our anniversary as we are claiming our official anniversary date, which I think is an unconventional way to do things because we are using our anniversary date, which is the day we met and the day we went on our first date, not the day that we officially signed our marriage license.
10:19We didn't really talk about this ad nauseum. And so I want to ask you why. Because to me, like that is when our love story began. Okay. And that's a very significant date, November 4th, 2023, because nothing was the same from November 4th. I agree. And I think that most couples don't have a clear cut start date like that. And we do. And so that is what feels right to me. Are you not on board with that? So is that a... No, I'm fully on board with it. I just didn't feel like we flushed out the conversation. But then it was funny because I had my friends Maggie and Tony over earlier today. And one of them was out there like, what did you know?
11:03And I was like, I know this sounds so crazy, but I knew the day I met him. As did I. As did I. You did. Know that I was the one for you? Oh, yeah.
11:16Jules. I'm leaving that in. Good. Please. Please. Isn't November 4th election day? This is a no-cut podcast. Isn't November 4th election day? Is it? What patriots are we? No idea. No idea. It was a Saturday in 2023. That's why I was looking it up because I was wondering what day it was this year, if you could potentially do your wedding party that day. I think it's like a Wednesday. It's a Wednesday. Yeah, we looked at that. We looked at this, yes. Anyone who's a parent knows feeding decisions aren't a one-time thing. You make them again and again, stage after stage. And that's where Little Spoon comes into play, you guys.
11:51We love Little Spoon in our household, and you will too. They're with you through the baby stage, to the toddler stage, to the big kid stage. Because here's the thing, appetites change, and so does Little Spoon. So at the baby stage, they support babies from their very first feed with baby cereal and baby blends when solids begin. They have first bites, first spoons, all of it. Then at the toddler stage, their biteables are cut to size. and they have pinchable meals that make the transition to table food feel easy, supporting self-feeding skills. Because here's the thing, you will be in the kitchen just chopping constantly, but not with Littlespoon because they do that for you.
12:28And at the big kid stage, appetites and opinions grow, but so does Littlespoon. The plates are heat and eat meals with superfoods and hidden veggies. And that's the thing, when your kid's hungry, the best thing is to have the meal already ready and all you have to do is heat it up. Feeding the kids doesn't have to be complicated. Littlespoon makes it easy with real nutritionally balanced meals and snacks designed for every stage. It shows up ready to go, takes the pressure off, and somehow still gets devoured, veggies and all. No artificial dyes, flavors, or sweeteners either. And you know what?
12:59That's a win we'll take every time. Get 30 % off your first order at littlespoon.com slash twoparents with code twoparents. That's L-I-T-T-L-E-S-P-O-O-N dot com slash twoparents with code twoparents for 30 % off your first order. so unfortunately no um no luck there and then the other interesting conversation point that came up is what do we want to call us do you want to call it we're 10 days in or two weeks in because 11 days in doesn't feel right two weeks please okay so we're gonna go two weeks let's run two weeks so how we're feeling on family size two weeks in oh this is the other thing we talked about this morning i see what you're saying do you want to go or do you want me to go you go you're this is your podcast i know but now you're sitting here i feel like i i should be i should be passing passing the mic over so i think we told this story on last week's episode how we were driving did we tell us how when we're driving back from the hospital we talked about like hey does this feel like it's it in terms of kids or no okay well then we'll get two stories here so when we were driving back from the hospital on Tuesday, Alex and I both looked at each other and we're just like, do you think this is the last time we're going to do this?
14:21Like, like, are we done with two? Are we done with two? What's your gut instinct telling you? And both of us were just like, we are so happy. We are loving this moment. We also, we want more. two yeah because i think that you when you know you know and you leave and some people say that they they thought they wanted three kids they had two and they just felt so complete and and while our family feels very complete yeah it feels like there will be more and we want more correct god willing correct and um now two weeks in the conversation today which obviously was led by you being told by me was like that that third feels like I don't even know how to say this at this point it's hard for me to talk when I feel like it's kind of you're something that is your call do you know what I'm saying yeah I know what you're saying but I think that so wait I'm sorry what are you wanting to say that I said we can definitely do three and I might do four?
15:30Yeah, I guess is kind of it. Because this is the way. So just because pregnancy is so hard on me and like I do – like I find out – we were talking about this. I find out I'm pregnant at the three-week mark because I get this just like flat depression blah feeling and hunger. Like remember I start to crave just like crackers and peanut butter. And it's – I'm two for two on this. and then it's just like I find out I'm pregnant so early and so you have so long to go and I don't enjoy being pregnant although I'm thankful for it it it overtakes my body and you know once you have the baby you're not it's not like you have the baby and you just pop back to your normal self so you know you take a long time out of commission and so what I was saying is I could definitely do three and then we're going to reassess on the fourth but probably i'll do three and then maybe take like four or five years and then do the fourth we'll see yeah we'll see it's it's the this is dreaming but i don't know i don't know um and and i think that was like the first time we've ever discussed that concept of of an age gap of a large age gap in between in between the kids And I think we both kind of, it felt like we're on that same page of, you know, when we start trying again.
16:51Well, I always say it's a short-term loss of, you know, doing things and being productive and having a pep in my step and for a long-term gain of having these kids that we want. Totally. Well, totally isn't a fair thing for me to say, but I support you. So, Jules, help me here. where um i guess are we good on are we good on that we good on the kid thing i think so okay so ultimate conclusion i don't even know that was it we don't need a conclusion yeah that was just that was just where our head was at that is the latest update on on kid thinking where where do you think we Take it from here, Jules.
17:39Well, Alex texted this morning about her push present and Mother's Day gifts. Oh. I would love to not talk about the push present. Okay. Well, I'm getting a lot of questions about the push present. So we're going to talk about it because. Well, what you want, we get. Perfect. Yeah. I've seen her DMs. She got a lot of questions on it. Correct. I think a lot of people are asking me about a couple things right now. So I just wanted to do some housekeeping here. And do you want me to take the push present? You can take the push present. And then I don't let me forget Mother's Day presents because I have just a couple ideas for guys listening or moms.
18:11If you don't know what you want. At some point, Alex sent me a link to a bag. I think it was in January. It was. And it was before I believe it was before it launched and it was just announced or something along those lines. I mean, it just dropped. And she's just special edition. I love, love, love, love, love this. and I was like she rarely like stakes her a flag on an item that she's super into and then she referenced it like very shortly after and I was like you know what I'm gonna get this and I'm gonna save it for a special occasion um if I try to like go back to that exact moment what did I have the push present in mind i'm not exactly sure i think it was probably the leading candidate for when i would have given it to you but you're such a hard person to get a gift for i saw it as like okay this is something that she like obviously really wants so let's go and and um and you know whatever get it get it have it in storage uh it was where'd you store yeah i have two questions which is where'd you store it in right in front of her face yeah right right uh it was stored right beside where she works out in a box oh yeah she'd looked at it every day but not it wasn't in it was in a brown box it was in a brown box oh yeah and then i understood what you meant by the color but the color's so good that he i think that because i recently color is very pink i recently sent him the same i recently sent him the same bag in blue oh and i was like i just love that i don't know what it's called a speedy something i love that top handle bag that they make um i would much rather have it in pink it's so cute and pink i love it i just i just didn't see blue as your like color if that makes sense i love it i don't i just didn't think you'd get as much you said of it and i don't need to do blue just because he's a boy like that doesn't exist and i love the pink and i'll give this bag to bubber and i'm obsessed with it so thank you so much so so much you you deserve it i'm just very happy that you liked it because it was uh well beyond the return window i absolutely love it i absolutely love it like i was so excited but i love bright colorful bags like that on mother's day yeah this is so much fun that you are here because what I was talking to Jules about yesterday and we will get into Mother's Day and part of my confusion around recording this episode is I don't talk to the audience I talk to you and there just happens to be a mic here like some podcasters I feel like talk to the audience right I have no idea how to do that and so even just having you in the room is making this a lot more fun.
21:09You're just a guy that chats. I do feel like what this podcast is is a lot of your and I's typical conversation just being recorded. No, I agree with that. It feels a lot more natural. And what I will say is, I'm not even sure if this is what anyone wants to hear, but what you being on maternity leave has showed me is how much I enjoy doing this. Because right now I'm only recording we're only recording once a week and I want to be recording twice a week like I had this date circled like this week has felt really long to me because I didn't get to record until Wednesday well there's a couple things to say about that number one we like we like we've really been loving the podcast because it's mutually beneficial with us in the audience we learn a lot from you guys and I hope that I don't think you learn anything from us but I hope that we you can relate to us and enjoy it yeah and enjoy it um but the other thing is I think we just love we love what we do but on maternity leave what I want to say is like I am enjoying not having to be here right now being able to just stay at home and snuggle him because so the way our days work right now is Tate goes to Maria's but they're going to Winnie's every day so she's gone from eight to five right now, just while we get in the swing of things with him.
22:33And so from eight to five, we get to be in our little newborn bubble. And then at five o 'clock, it's really sweet. Cause we go get her and we walk to the park or we do something as a family. And then that time's really sweet. So we're getting a little taste of both. Like we're getting the taste of the family of four and we're getting the newborn bubble. And so I am enjoying just doing the snuggles. I'm staying in bed till 10 I'm reading, I'm sitting with my heating pad. We're watching shows. Like I think that that I think the newborn bubble doesn't last forever and it's the sweetest time of your life and so I'm really enjoying that but I do agree with you like today I was like I do want to go go with you to record because it just feels like fun but I don't want to put any pressure on myself to have to be anywhere yeah and I really respect like the line you've drawn around what you will do and won't do from from a work perspective and just know that that you're supported um no matter no matter what what route you take my line right now is do what I want to do if I want to do it I'll do it if I don't I don't I I'm I'm stunned that you're sitting here but I didn't want to come last week and today I was like yeah I think it's good for me and you also you said like you you don't want to program like you don't want to program you don't want to you know deal with a variety of matters and you've held so firm on that but we got you here but and then I'm enjoying being here because it was like my decision to come and I think that whenever we start to record like this is a good break for me too because we're going to add a third episode and i'll be like ready ready to rock and roll get things flowing you said something before oh mother's day i just have to do it really quickly number one i linked to phone cases from bobble bar i think if you know here's the hardest part for the guys you got to figure out what kind of phone your wife has don't mess it up like really figure or just ask her like what kind of phone you have or go to her settings and it'll tell you what kind of phone she has but i think if you got her this phone case with her name on it or your last name or your kids names or something really good gift and then secondarily I was going to ask Harrison for this but I went ahead and ordered it for myself and I'm telling you now because you need to press order now because it will arrive in time bubble bar this is not an ad I just like their stuff also makes necklaces that you can do one name on two names on or three names on and I ordered one I used to have one that said um jelly Tate and Harrison but now we know his name's Rocky so I ordered another one and it's Rocky Tate and Harrison and I think it would be a really good Mother's Day gift it's a really like weird full circle moment just on the ball of our front because I probably heard about this company for the first time like maybe I don't know let's call it seven years ago plus minus because you're gonna have to bleep the name but is one of their early investors oh really yeah I think they're okay so I was worried about the quality of the necklaces because I don't like when things tarnish and what I love about their stuff, number one, it's light, so it doesn't hurt my neck and number two, it's high quality for the price.
25:28Like I think they crush it. So great Mother's Day tips. The other thing I'd add is your phone case, you got an R, a heart and a T, which I think looks very good. A lot of people are DMing me how they get the heart. I can't believe Balvar made a typo on your request and forgot the H, but that's okay. You're the heart. Thank you. You're welcome. And you said to get your wife's name. Don't do that. Because remember, you received some things, not from Harrison, with your name on it. And you're like, just put Tate's name on it. I'll wear it 10x more if it has Tate's name on it. Good call, Jewel. Good call.
26:06I love this phone case being a teen. It's so cute. I'm very obsessed with it. And the colors are great. Here, pass it over here and I'll show it. Here it is. Very nice. There you are. The baby's finally asleep. the house is quiet when the unwanted thoughts crash the party. Did I accidentally hurt the baby and not realize it? What if I'm a terrible parent and everyone knows it and I don't? Or maybe it's something that makes you feel ashamed to even think about. And that's where no CD comes into play. You guys, your brain grabs onto thoughts and it won't let them go. Now you're spiraling, checking on the baby again, seeking reassurance from your partner, but no matter what you do to try to feel better, it never helps for very long.
26:46OCD involves intrusive, distressing thoughts that cause intense anxiety and behaviors you feel driven to do to get relief, even though the relief is short-lived. It can latch on to anything you care about, your baby's safety, your family, your identity as a parent. NoCD is the world's leading provider of OCD treatment, and it's covered by insurance for over 138 million Americans. All of their licensed therapists specialize in ERP therapy and will help you learn to take the power away from intrusive thoughts and live face-to-face virtual sessions. If those unwanted thoughts are taking over, don't wait to get help.
27:23Visit NOCD.com to book a free call with their team. That's NOCD.com. So can we talk through your Mother's Day gift? Because the way I had the push present locked in and dialed in, I got to be straight. I am completely blind on the Mother's Day gift. So am I. I'm a little upset that you ordered something that could have been a Mother's Day gift. Well, I thought I could. That feels a little. I thought I could sit here and type this out to him and explain to him the order and which one to buy and all this. Or I could just do it. And they took Apple Pay and I just said, I'm done. I'm buying it. So I bought it.
28:02But what I want for Mother's Day, I don't know. I don't know. I think I'm going to have a, I think I'm going to request a pair of shoes if I get to request because Bubber loves the Pottos, which is what we talk about in our house. We've learned that you requesting is the best way to do it. Yeah. And so I think a pair of shoes and you know what, if we don't find them because we have a lot going on, let's just go to the mall together. All of us on Mother's Day and we'll get them. We'll take the whole family, go to lunch. I think I would love that because I would also love a spa day, but realistically I'm going to plan that for myself next Friday.
28:32so and you've also taught me you don't like services as gifts you like physical things as gifts yeah because i'll book like i know what hydrofacial i want i want to book it when i want to go i don't want to be away from you guys on mother's day i want to be with you so i do feel like that is that is a very nice mother's day a brunch to uh to thoughtful shopping that's that's my kind of mother's day some people probably love doing the spa but do you need to give your what your your partner a heads up that that's the game plan so it doesn't feel like you forgot about it well i think the nicest thing to do is have flowers and a card as like something to give and then in the card say we're going shopping but i kind of feel like you need to do that before mother's day or else you could it could feel like you forgot like almost you you know what maybe you do is you send a save the date so you go to the post office and you actually mail a letter and it's a save the date and it's mother's day and you you say 11 o 'clock brunch surprise 1 p.m shopping at your three favorite stores yeah i think you could also if if the guy had a price in mind he could do something with like a you could get like a visa gift card i don't know if you're like i want her to spend a hundred dollars take her shopping for a hundred dollars i think you could give her that in cash or i don't a lot of places don't take cash something like that i think you could do it with the price you can do cash as gift i agree i think you could do the visa gift card or you could do a nordstrom gift card and then say we're gonna go spend this yeah and even you go to nordstrom's you get the card maybe you don't even put the money on it but it shows you when and you did the act yeah because I do see what you're saying of like surprise we're taking you shopping aka we forgot yeah but I'm telling you just go maybe we go together okay Rocky is knocked out he's a snoozer he had his bottle and he is happy he is a snoozer what's going on with his arm what he just has it tucked under his head it's under his head it's not wrapped around you no it's under his head but he's sleeping on it he has been wrapping his arms around me a lot which is something Bubber used to and I loved it.
30:48It's the sweetest thing ever. I feel like this is a good transition into something that, once again, we don't have the docket, which I think is talking about
31:00the dynamics in the household right now over the first two weeks. And I think that one thing that has become quite prevalent is very much you're taking the lead with Rocky and I'm taking the lead with Tate. And it feels like there is an element of divide and conquer that has been going on. Do you agree with that statement? 100%. Here's the main thing, too. For the first week, week and a half, when mom is healing, well, heck, it could be depending on how bad you tear. It could be a month. And I can't go chase Tate around right now. So me holding him is a really good use of my time. And you can go chase her around.
31:46and go run and play with her. So yeah, I totally agree. And I think there's been a couple of big learnings that have gone on. And I think some things that out of the gates we've done right. And then some things out of the gates that we've done wrong. And obviously we're still super early into this. So it's fluid and changing and we'll make many, many more mistakes ahead. But I think one thing we did that Dr. Becky recommended that I love but that I think we took too far was on the introduction of Rocky to Tate. How we had Tate up to the hospital. It was only you and I in the room. We hung out as a family of three.
32:29We then got him from the nursery. And then the advice we were given was really focus on also giving her alone time. And so while we are doing an element of dividing and conquering, what we learned was that when we spend too much time apart, that flusters her. And she's happiest when it's the four of us. And so while on that introduction, I think it was really important that she didn't walk in on the three of us. it's it's really surprised me how much she loves being with the collective unit as opposed to just one of us well i okay yes to everything you just said i i wonder if there's a cause and effect element here of the way she met him and was introduced to him set us up for success with that and we'll never know we'll never know i stand by how we did it i agree for baby three I very much think we should do the same thing totally agree and Tate will be old enough then to understand a little bit more but I agree that that's really important to do it that way like it's not just mom and dad in here with the baby we're gonna go meet the baby together but what we did do with Tate where we messed up and it took us three days to figure it out and by messed up I mean we just we needed to iterate yeah we were she understood that she had a brother Bubba Rocky as she says we always say who do you want to go see Rocky she loves riding in the back of the car with them she loves to go say hi to him she likes to hold him for two seconds she wants to give him a bottle she understands when I'm pumping that that's Tay Tay for Rocky like she does not want us to shield her from the reality of what's happening she understands and wants to participate and we were trying so we over indexed on protecting her and easing her into it when you know she just was like I got it it's my brother I have one I have a brother now his rooms the blue stripes I've got the pink one yeah and and I do think if like part of the psyche that may be going on in her head is Winnie had a baba a baba and she loves when he's baba so much and I think a lot of it she feels like she got a baba it's almost like Winnie has a doll and she didn't have this doll but she really liked when he's doll and we finally were like hey you got one too and so she's so excited to have hers to have this baba and you see it in the dynamic of how the four of how winnie is to yates and then how she is to to to rocky um i didn't give you enough credit for that you said i think this will ease it for her and i was like no there's no way i do actually think that's been the most helpful dynamic is she's she sees she's with winnie every day and so she's with yates every day yeah so she just sees that there's two of them and yeah i think she wanted one and she's got one now and obviously like that there will be highs and lows through this and so while there's like an uh a ton of love out of the gates and accepting i i i'm sure that though that will overshoot on on the other side and so i don't want that to get lost like We still are, you know, not even really two weeks in here.
35:53Totally. But she doesn't go to bed unless Bubba goes to bed. Yeah. And so that's a good foray into routines and how the morning routine has changed and how the bedtime routine has changed. Because both of them, for her, have had very, very minor changes, but I think changes that are landing pretty well. So starting with bedtime, starting with wake up, one thing that Dr. Becky specifically called out for us is if there are things that you do with your son or daughter that are special bonding moments with each of you individually, do not stop them. And I think on this podcast, I've talked a lot about Tate and I's mornings.
36:43And so those have stayed intact. that is really the only one-on-one time that is existing for long periods of time but there is one major change and that is right when i wake her up in the morning the first thing i now ask her is who do you want to see rocky or mama and she decides who she goes and sees first it's always rocky which is no but it war but it's the sweetest that's all a mom wants all i want is for this to go well and her to want to see him and every morning she goes rocky and then she comes and she sees mama and she gives me a kiss and like then she runs back and forth between the rooms for an hour and if you're wondering how rocky's in his own room the night nurse is still in there yes so our night are precious and i get a lot of questions about this has the night nurse started and are you loving her she's fabulous she's warm she's on top of it like i feel so lucky but she She's working 10 to 8.
37:39So Tate gets up at 7. So Bubba is still in. And I think this is a helpful dynamic. He's still in his room. And I'm in our room pumping. So she doesn't wake up every morning and just see me holding him. Which I think has been really nice. So she goes in and says hi to Bubba and Diana. And then she comes over and says hi to me. Yeah. Yeah. Exactly. And then our morning goes as normal. with the caveat today as you alluded to like she legitimately spent an hour running between the rooms and opening the door and closing the door and saying hi bye hi bye hi bye and she would run into rocky and harrison kept saying do you want to go to the coffee shop she's like nope today was the first day since we've been back that we did not go to to the coffee shop and then on the bedtime routine, bedtime, what, or anything else on the morning routine?
38:33No, no. On the bedtime routine. So, um, the, the big change going on here has been, we had some struggles over the first couple of nights. And I think what we kind of clued into was there was the dynamic where all four of us would be in the room and then we would leave to put her to bed and i think that that was a tough psyche for her because she knew we still had rocky of leaving the three and also rocky is awake she felt left out and so what we do now is i is tate rocky and i go and we put rocky to bed and so rocky goes we walk into his room we put him to bed she we put him in the snooze she loves hitting the snoo button so we turn it into like the grand like okay we need your help and then she hits it with authority and then we leave the so we put him to bed and then right when we leave that room alex goes in and grabs him and i put tate to bed and that has been going um that's been going quite smoothly over the past couple nights and god add the head you're gonna tell me not to but we're still only a few nights here so things can things can turn quickly and we are well aware of that.
39:53But I think we're in as good of a flow as we can be from a routine perspective over these first two weeks. And very thankful for all the help we've had, obviously, between the night nurse, between our families in town, and so on and so forth. No, I totally agree. I think you described it well. I have nothing to add. Now, help. I was going to ask about the SNU, actually. Okay. Because I feel like you've said this for the last 10 months of the only thing that could potentially go wrong is that the snoo doesn't work with baby number two so i was wondering how it's going we so we got home from the hospital april 21st he he slept in this new april 21st and it was one of the first things i did and one of the first things i talked to our night nurse about was what i wanted to avoid was a habit of him only falling asleep in people's arms and I was concerned that if we went the first couple weeks and over the those first couple weeks he was always sleeping in my arms Alex's arms and night nurse's arms that then getting into the SNU could be tough and so we had him in the SNU night one and don't get me wrong he does a lot of sleeping on chest he's sleeping on Alex's chest right now I love having him on my chest but when When it comes to the nighttime, he is in the snoo from that 10 to 8 window.

41:22What? So. Was that, did I answer your question? Yeah. And he's taking too well. He loves it. Yeah, he does. He loves snoo. Because I think that that was just a concern or like a. A huge. You said it on the podcast multiple times that that could rock you guys. If not. And we're very happy with how things are going on the snoo and we use it for naps as well. And it's been great. I need to take a photo of just what he looks like right now. It is like maybe an all-time cute moment of how snoozer-licious he is. I can't see his face. You got to look at it. It's insane. 44:06To get started and learn more, including important safety information, Wigobi clinical study information and restrictions, visit ForHers.com. Have you told people what we're watching? No, I think before we get into that, because I also, I started something new last night, which when you went to bed was, I think, a really, really, really good call out. What did you watch? But before we had the last thing on the RL update. Okay, what is it? and that is parent brain. Jules. I did some research into this as well. Okay, so do you want to share the research? Do you want to – Do research first. Should I share the dynamic?
44:47Talk to me. I want to do the research first. Okay. It's like actually really interesting, but the most interesting, I guess the disclaimer up top, is that they've not done any research on second-time dad brains, but they have done second-time mom brains. Okay. But essentially what happens when you have baby number one is mom loses 5 % of gray matter and dad loses 1 % of gray matter. And what your brain is doing for baby number one, it's like rewiring your brain to bond with your baby. Okay. For second time moms, their brains change again. They lose 3 % of gray matter again. And what's gray matter?
45:33It is, like, it's the matter in your brain. Like thought space, right? It's just, like, actual. But it's not, they're not losing it. It's not being destroyed. It's being reallocated. So it's being reallocated to be able to bond with your baby. Okay. So in saying your memory could get worse. I'll get there. of what losing gray matter causes. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Losing gray matter causes forgetfulness and memory lapses, brain fog and trouble concentrating, feeling scattered on non-baby things. Because basically the 5 % that she had to focus on everything is going away and being focused on only baby things with the goal to bond with baby number one.
46:16For moms, for baby number two, your brain is changing in a completely different way to help you be a better multitasker. wow interesting interesting fascinating i saw something as well and i don't know if this is tied to it but it talked about how when a woman gives birth her brain becomes more efficient it's trying the so is that that dynamic and the other so it's like it's like it's having a kid is very good for your brain and we have the audacity to argue if men or women are smarter and they don't so they don't know how it's changing for second time dad they've never done any research on it uh um whatever but the most interesting thing the woman's brain starts changing when they're pregnant the man's brain doesn't start changing until after the baby comes and the amount of gray matter that they lose is directly proportional to the amount of hours that they spend with their kid wow you lose more gray matter if you are more involved and you lose less if you're less involved yeah no because because where where this this comes up is i feel like we hear a lot of this from the mom's perspective and rightfully so and and understandably so but the the the gray matter ordeal definitely lands on on the dad's side of well i think the way it hits like the way i would i would put it into our um our experience is very much like when you ask me to go and do something so you're like hey do you mind going downstairs is getting the pump supplies, a glass of water, and overnight oats with some blueberries.
47:52When I go down, I'm not batting 100 % right now. I'm getting the pumps. I'm getting the water. I'm getting the overnight oats. I am forgetting the berries. And I'm going up there, and you're very nicely reminding me that I forgot the berries, and I'm going back down. But it definitely feels like there is an element of fog here, which obviously, if that's what you know just uh the the average dad feels like it only puts um puts more more credence is credence the right word as to what what a woman woman goes through well i just the right word i don't know that definition of that word personally well can we look that up to make sure i didn't butcher it i've just started texting you the list too because like i know i can't remember anything i can't remember what i asked you for i go up and you're like i don't even know no idea what i needed but um it does make a lot of sense because she jules mentioned how it's like tasks outside the baby too and i find like if our room gets messy i feel completely overwhelmed and it's like you know how to clean your room what does credence mean credence is a noun meaning belief acceptance or trustworthiness of something so no what what's an issue yeah i i like didn't hear the same i i I said that if a dad who did nothing is experiencing this.
49:16Do you mean cadence? It only like – it puts in a perspective what mom is going through in a much grander way was the point I was trying to make. Whatever. I see what you're saying. It's fine. That doesn't sound interesting to you all. So that's okay. No, I totally understood what you said. And I think, yeah, the opposite or for you. It's like if 1 % for me, 5 % for Alex. Yeah. I'm surprised it's even that close. You forget the berries. She forgets the berries, the oats, all of the things. I'm not saying you don't forget anything. I forget a lot right now. Okay. So are we going to move away from the baby stuff or do you want to do some Q &A and then you can talk about what we're watching first?
50:01You talk to me, Jules. Give me some. Do what you're watching because like you kind of gave a good teaser there. Okay. So we've gotten into, as a couple, we've gotten into Survivor season 50. So good. It took a lot of convincing. My sister put us over the edge. And when I say convincing, I've been trying to get her to watch. And then finally my sister's like, you got to put it on. If Survivor is not on your radar, it needs to be. Do you watch Survivor? No. I mean, there's a reason there's 50 seasons. It's like on my radar, but I've never watched it. I know a lot of the main characters, like Boston Robb.
50:37That's the main guy. I know. I didn't know any of them. I am having so much fun. I'm obsessed with Colby and Ozzy. Colby Donaldson. Do you know who Colby is? No. We looked him up. He's from Austin. He was season two. I remember when I watched season two, I was like, this guy is like, he's the man. 25 years have gone by. He's only gotten better. He has only gotten better. He has aged so well, but this means competence. He just seems like such a good, trustworthy, honest caretaker. Yeah, he's somebody you want in your corner. A man who looks you in the eyes, shakes your hand, and you know you got a deal done.
51:26And he has a good handshake. Now, if he goes around and backstabs a bunch of people on the season, because we were like four episodes in, I will feel like a bit of an idiot. but we'll blame that to the game that's who i think he is as a general person don't you have isn't it a game of backstabbing people so i i i want to i officially want to mark my claim that i want to go on survivor you've said that before i think you should apply but now i'm going to make a push okay okay i want to get on this show and i want to play the show the right way i don't want to go around and backstab a bunch of people i want to go on there and I want to play it right.
52:01I want to play it straight. And if that gets me kicked off, that gets me kicked off. Well, I don't know because Colby said he had a nice cameo the other day or a green screen interview and he said, all right, in real life, if you go through someone's bag, that is not good. We cannot be doing that. And Survivor, if you go through someone's bag, you kind of have to go through it and see if they have the token thing. The immunity idol? Yes. Who wasn't paying attention to that. Yeah, so he's like, in Survivor, you can do that. so there is an element of how to play the game versus how you should conduct your life and he he touches on that he's like you can't go through people's bags but you but you still need to play it but on survivor you can and i think that that's where you got to find the line yeah and i think he's doing that and that's what i will do yeah which is good as i go okay what season what season you don't want to be on what season should people watch no throw a prediction out there for you Well, they've probably filmed 51.
52:57I want to be on it in 2027. Okay. Okay. There it is. Are you going to apply? Yeah, we're going to make this happen. Okay. Oh, I'm excited. We're going to make this happen. I cannot wait to watch. So amidst all the Summer House drama, back to what I'm watching. What are you watching? I got like the Summer House Amazon notification. Oh, you watched Summer House last night? And I clicked it. Summerhouse, season one, episode one. Wow. Back to the beginning. And I'm not a Summerhouse watcher, but obviously - Are Wes and Amanda and Sierra on that? And Kyle? No. So Kyle is on it. And the craziest thing is episode one is the Vanderpump Rules people going to the Hamptons.
53:47I only got like 12 minutes into the episode. Fell asleep. but very entertaining, especially in the context of like now seeing where things are today. So we'll see how many episodes I get through, but we're 12 minutes in episode one. How many episodes are there or how many seasons are there? Oh, wow. So they're babies. So Kyle's not even dating Amanda yet. No, he was hitting on Stassi and he forgot her name. Okay. Well, that's hilarious. Yeah. And she got so butthurt. Got it. Yeah. Yeah. So. Wait. 7.30. 10.30. We're doing some quick feeding math. And what I will say on the – do we have a name for the scandal, for the scandal all that's going on?
54:35They were calling it Scamanda. That's a bad name. I think so too. The Toast called it West Mandeval. Okay. I love that. That's a good name. That's a good name. West Mandeval. I think they called it that. Great name. West Mandeval. my update there is i know there's a leaked recording i did not watch it me either i was so mad about that i did not listen i did not watch i am waiting for the finale or for the i guess to me i want to see the whole context of everything i need to see andy cohen in the mix i need to see like i need to see the video and i want to respect the process so i officially did not listen yeah but who do you think recorded it somebody that thought that they were doing something really cool and i just i just thought that it was the loser behavior didn't they find the person i don't know they definitely found the person oh i think it was they were on production oh it like sounds so crisp and clear that you're like this is one of them with their phone just like sitting in their pocket while they're talking it's crazy i didn't listen to the whole thing but it it's like it's shocking apparently it was somebody that put their phone by one of the speakers oh not cool yeah no it's pretty crazy really like but now they can't like edit it down like they gotta just put it out as wait so the whole show was released i don't know how it was a decently long chunk i i made it through like a minute or two but like it's non-edited you know that's just like the reunion could be so largely viewed and for somebody to release that is like I think it's going to be more largely viewed now.
56:11I do too, but is it like illegal? It was. Like they were, yes, like they were putting out cease and desist. Like to me, that's a criminal offense. Like it's the owner of very unique IP around a large event where there's a ton of ad sales being done, a ton of investment, a ton of production. Like it's fully, fully illegal and there should be significant consequences for the person who leaked that. Well, there needs to be consequences so we can ensure it doesn't happen again. Well, there were like T pages that were reposting it. And I saw a bunch of things that were just like, if you want to have a job in any industry, like any related industry moving forward, do not repost this clip.
56:52Because like one, Bravo is going to come for you most likely. And two, it's really frowned upon. I'm just glad everyone took it as seriously as they did. and and can we talk about um andy from bravo yeah is where where does it because this guy feels like he's he's nailing it right now he's the best who doesn't like him is it this like is he good in the court of public opinion yeah who doesn't like him from from a from a new from a newbie's perspective this guy feels like he's got it going on he's sharp he like owns the network but he's a character he's also got a great parenting podcast how did I know how do we not did you know this now that she says that I did I think we got to get a little pod swap going on and we should I am I am goes back to how he mediates the after the what are the lives the lives the reunions just he feels like he's on a great path but what reunion did you watch uh my show my craig show wait people are having um southern charm who told me this shout out craig my bestie someone's having a reunion a reunion watch party us need to be new new theater but i haven't seen anybody so why would i know that someone's having a reunion watch party oh we gotta have a reunion watch party and they're theming it okay done okay i think that we should do that.
58:22How happy is Craig that all this is going on because no one's talking about Craig. When I went and got my microdialing. Yep, Jessie. She's going to a reunion watch party, a Summer House watch party and I guess they have themed parties on Summer House. They're doing a themed party for the reunion. When is the reunion coming out? One second. Let's have a party. I would love to. A watch party. Rocky Bears. And theme it. Oh. Oh, it was filmed April 23rd. I was like, oh my gosh. May 26th. That's a long time. No, it's a month away. Just feels like a long time. I just do think this is my new vendetta against reality TV.
59:05And I think it's because I know we're on a way pared back, but we put things out so fast that that's the kind of content I like to consume. And like, I don't want to wait a month for the finale. I wonder, and my prediction would be that eventually they're going to speed up the timelines. I would rather have way worse production in unedited. I think that's the direction we're going to go. I've been doing a little spring reset with my closet lately. Also a little shuffle of the postpartum. Outfits going in from maternity, etc. Focusing on more quality over quantity. I'm just building a wardrobe of pieces that are well made, versatile, and easy to reach for every day.
59:45and that's why I keep coming back to Quince. I've said it from the beginning. I love everything that they make because it is truly elevated feeling fabric that fits are thoughtful and it's not the price tag of the expensive designer wear, but it's the same exact quality and the way they're able to do that is they partner direct with the factories. They cut out the middleman and so they pass on the savings to you and I and I'm telling you, men also, the Quince guys wear is electric. Harrison has the coolest suede shirt with matching sneakers. It's all, everything Quince makes you guys is truly incredible.
1:00:18And it's the kind of things you can throw on and instantly look put together. Refresh your wardrobe with Quince. Go to Quince.com slash Alex for free shipping and 365 day returns. Now available in Canada too. Go to Quince, Q-U-I-N-C-E dot com slash Alex for free shipping and 365 day returns. Quince.com slash Alex. Bubba's favorite thing to do is give him lips. She gives him lips on the forehead. She's going right here. okay sorry still have that like this is me not knowing about babies do babies still have that in their forehead the little indent like up here i don't know their skull's not fused yet so he has a bump right here and you can't touch it right there's just like fear mongering that i was given in high school and that makes me so i can't hold rocky because i'm afraid i'll break him and it was touching the forehead and the neck snapping back yeah it's very real the neck snapping back is scary you got to be on it and he he is very movie for a baby so you got to be really careful with him like tate was a lot more um still than him i don't think that you would have had this at your all boys school but did you guys have fake babies in high school we did we did not you had to like change the diaper and feed it but the the tip was you took the arms and you tied them behind its neck so it would keep the neck stable and then you wouldn't get points off for the neck snapping back.
1:01:47And that's where my fear comes from, I think. Okay. That's really smart. Good to know. Yeah. Okay. All right. So what do you want to talk about now? What are the things we DM'd? I can pull this up. You want to do some DMing? Can you tell the audience that we're going to save the Q &A for next week? Okay. Well, it feels like with the beautiful added involvement from Alex, this episode is going quite long. And so we're going to save the Q &A for next week. So please send over any questions you have to me on Instagram and I will look at them. We have voice notes. We have some voice notes. What? Yeah, we're really getting into it with you going.
1:02:30So this is a new segment I'm starting this week. Okay. Okay. It's not. Without you. Okay. It's called the Tweet of the Week. Okay. So this is by someone named Abby Roy. A weekly jab in the belly is generating more revenue than the entire AI industry. Ozempic and Monjaro,$71 billion in 2025 revenue. Open AI and Anthropic,$29 billion in 2025 revenue. People would rather be skinny than smart. That's what that's telling us. How funny is that? Isn't that insane? Yeah. If you told me to guess, I don't know that I would have gotten that right. I thought when you said jab at the beginning, I was like boxing.
1:03:12And what I like about this new Tweet of the Week segment is I don't need to check the source to see if that was true. Because if it isn't true, that is Abby Roy's fault. I love that. Yes. Okay. So thank you, Abby, for that. What do you have to say about it? I think that what it speaks to often is like the disconnect between hype, between what's garnering media attention and what's happening in reality financially. You don't think both of these are garnering media attention? I feel like we're talking about them both a lot. I'm not shocked by the two industries that we just talked about. ozempic slash glp ones as a whole and ai i feel like are very prevalent but ozempic is bringing in more than two times as much money as i think if you were to ask people that is the way the press writes about each one people write about ai as a business people write about the health affects positive and negative of GLP-1s.
1:04:19Okay, okay, okay. When - Not the business side. In reality, yeah, there's not nearly enough coverage on what behemoths these are from a business perspective. I can get behind that. I guess is kind of more so the point I was making. And the valuations of the tech companies are - The valuations from the tech companies are what? They're significantly higher than those of the pharma companies. Okay. But the pharma companies you now are telling us are making double. In revenue. I guess let's pull it up. Let's do some research here. Okay.
1:05:02While you pull that up, I have switched to Claude. So have I, Jules, recently? How's that going for you? I haven't imported my chat GPT history yet, which I think is important to me. but I think I think it's better they seem to like it seems to like know you better automatically sorry well you know I'm the worst multitasker in the world yeah would you say it just speaks to you nicer Claude yeah it just seems smarter as well yeah a little smarter you know my problem with it though is I'll Google Claude and then I'll try to go to chat GPT is the number one and then there's like five others that I've accidentally signed up for and I'll be so mad I'm I'm like, I've already signed up for Claude.
1:05:44So they need to really do their SEO. That happened to me yesterday. There's Claude chatbot versus Claude. Yeah. Yes. Happened to me yesterday. It's really, they've got to get that. They need to be the first one that pops up. I agree. I finally got the app. I think it's absurd that Google doesn't do a better job at predicting direct search like that. Protecting direct search like that. Oh, they sell it. They clearly, clearly sell it. So the market caps for – all right. So Novo Nordisk – let me get that wording correct. Yeah. Novo Nordisk owns Ozempic. Okay. Their market cap is$183 billion and Ozempic is like 40 % of their revenue to my understanding.
1:06:37Wow. Now, Anthropic, who owns Claude, their last funding round was done in February at about$350 million. But to my understanding, today, the shares are trading at around a trillion dollars on the secondary market. So investors today are generally valuing at around a trillion dollars. Okay. Chad GBT is now trading a little below Anthropic on the secondary market. So call it$750 billion. Give us the TLDR. Give us the, and your takeaway is? And the Ozambic one was$183 billion. Yeah. So the AI market cap, the valuations of the AI companies are five times that of the healthcare companies. Based off my quick.
1:07:32so this is different than the tweet well that's kind of the point we're now getting into a more confusing dynamic of the conversation imagine that I'm 10 years old and you have to explain this to me I think the tweet of the week is going to be retired you think what just explain it to me like I'm 10 okay like dumb it down dumb it really far down let's do it the glp1 companies are generating two times the amount of revenue as the ai companies who makes more sales so the glp1s are doing twice as many sales as the ai companies okay okay great but the ai companies are worth five times the amount Why is that?
1:08:32Because investors inherently think that the AI companies will at some point produce a lot more revenue and a lot more cash flow. So people are betting on them. Yes. Okay. Okay. Very interesting. We'll see where we land. You know, that was our tweet of the week. I don't know how it went. Let us know what you think. Send us some tweets. Yeah, send us some tweets that you find. I'm a big tweet. I'm a big tweet guy. Okay. So am I, but our Twitters are very different. What's on your Twitter, Jules? Just like whatever I'm into that week. What does that mean? Oh, that's cool. Like a new show that's coming out that I'm really excited about.
1:09:14There's pop culture Twitter? Yeah. Yes. Oh, well. I don't like this Netflix coming soon. I've been watching a lot of TV. I'm not into this coming soon part because you can't watch it right now. I don't want to know it's coming soon. Did you see that Netflix is going to introduce short form content? No. And what is that? Like reels? Yeah. Man, we're just going everywhere these days. Just expect anything. True Parents in a Pod, soon to be available on Netflix. Just expect anything. That's what I've learned. Okay. So, Jules, you actually DM this on the TikTok clip. So why don't you give us the rundown, please?
1:09:52Oh, goodness. Okay. This was a podcast. I think we're going to need to insert the podcast clip. Let's do it. If that's okay. And, um, so now zero to one mom's life changes. One to two. Dad is in for a big change. One to two. Dad is like, dad's on now. All the time. Yeah. My husband one to two is like, no more, no more. His world was rock. One to two. Zero to one. I was like, I got this. I actually don't need you. bring me food you know one to two i'm like take the big one you gotta take them you gotta take him and you have to be on all the time yes and if the big one wakes up in the night that's you babes i got the baby yeah 100 one to two is hard for dads but essentially what the girls in the podcast kept they were mothers and what they were saying is that the transition from one to two just like absolutely rocked their husbands they said zero to one i don't need you husband just bring me food is I think the direct line one to two husband needs to to step up I guess for lack of a better word and my first thought watching the clip and discussing with this with a friend who is pregnant with her second was like your husband's just kind of suck for lack of a better term because like it shouldn't you shouldn't need a second kid for the husband to finally be involved in the first kid's life.
1:11:19Yeah, the way this lands is just the ultimate delineation between was do you have an actively involved dad or a passive dad? And I think if a dad is actively involved in a child in baby one's life, then inherently they'll be as well prepared as one can be for baby two and vice versa. So that, and I look at my friend group And, you know, I am very prideful that the mass majority of my friends who are dads are very involved dads. But those few that aren't, I would assume that this phenomenon either did occur during baby two or will occur during baby two. So this was something my friend actually sent me this clip and we were talking about it while we were walking this weekend.
1:12:09but she had mentioned that one of their couple friends like they had this dynamic where like the dad wasn't very involved and then did need to step up but barely stepped up but they said something to their couple friend they called him out on it and he um did kind of step up to the plate a bit after that but I wanted to ask you guys like would you call out one of your friends if you felt like he was like leaving mom out to dry so no I would not call out one of my friends but if I was in the presence of them so we don't really have this here in Austin we have a lot of very involved dads but if I was around so I would use us as the example like I would never be like oh yeah let's say his name was Harry off of Harrison like oh Harry why don't can you do xyz you know help her out a little bit because I would leave that to them.
1:13:05What I would do in front of them is like we – I would say, look, we don't do that as a couple. Like we do 50-50. Does that make sense? You would be calling them out then. Okay. Then yeah, I guess I would. I just wouldn't dim our light so that they felt comfortable. I would very much so just be like, no, the way that we do things is 50-50 and Harrison's happy to do that and like that just is what it is. So I think that it could be – we're assuming we're talking about the dad, right? Correct. And so I think that the question may be more relevant for me here because I think that in most cases, I'm going to be closer with the dad and you're going to be closer with the mom.
1:13:37So you calling out the dad may feel more unnatural to you than if I spoke to the dad. Okay, I like your take there. And so part of how I'm thinking about this is like if I had a good friend and that friend was noticeably dropping the ball on something, then calling out isn't the right word, but would I discuss it with them? Yeah. But I would do it in a way in which it wouldn't make them defensive and it best positioned itself to land. Because I'd hope, on the contrary, that if I was dropping the ball on something, that my friends would say something to me. And the way in which I think I would say it is like, here's a very basic example.
1:14:27I would go to them and if I was told that their partner was struggling by you or by their partner and they felt like, hey, the load was too much, I'd be like, hey, one thing I do on Saturday mornings is I take the kids out for a walk and for breakfast and I give Alex an extra three hours of sleep or that allows Alex to get an extra three hours of sleep. And I think if you did this for Julie, she may really appreciate it. And so I'd kind of take something that we're doing in our house that's having a lot of success where I talk about the positive impact it's having on Alex and share like, I think that, that be like, are you doing that?
1:15:08Cause I think that, that Jules would, would enjoy it. But I'm also only talking on like my close knit circle. I think sitting down and telling a dad like you're being a bad dad, I think that inherently is going to probably get met with or fall on deaf ears and create conflict and they'll get too defensive. Well, you also don't know what they're going through at home. Like maybe they're so stressed at work and maybe it's like so much deeper than that. So I do think that would just be a slippery slope anyways. Yeah, but I think it's good for guys and girls, moms, wives, husbands, partners, to encourage their friends to be their best versions of themselves and share what's working.
1:15:53I totally agree. I think in general that we would want that feedback too. One thing that I do think is good for guys to not do, girls too, is to bond over like, oh, I just want to leave the kids at home. I know exactly what you're going to say. And then the other guy being like, yeah, same. I just want to leave the wife and the kids at home. I don't want to do this. where it's like as opposed to being like no I I love being like my favorite nights are family nights don't bond over negativity is what you're saying yeah when yeah because I think that that would not be how you really feel and so I think that's always a slippery slope when it comes to parenting like one one tick tock the tick tocks I don't love are just like the negative parenting talk I love the ones that are like uplifting like I do love this it's so fulfilling like this is such a fun chapter of life and so i think conversations that um reflect that are are good totally love it um okay well hope everyone enjoyed today's hybrid episode yeah it's a bit of a hybrid if you're on youtube sorry i just you're doing great you have nothing to be sorry about of the Rock City.
1:17:05I'm going to jump in and defend. I think it's great. I think, do you, if you're watching a podcast, are you even watching it? I'm mostly listening. I'm mostly listening as well. From the publisher
This week on Two Parents & A Podcast, it's Harrison's second solo episode… but jk lol because Alex (and Rocky!!!) decided to join in studio, just not on camera (ps. we heard you guys on the whole speakerphone thing hahaha). So Harrison is hosting, Alex is on the mic, Rocky is snoozing, and we're recapping the first two weeks as a family of four.
We get into Alex's feeding journey so far (no longer a just-enough-er!!!), the anniversary date we've officially decided on (the day we MET, not the day we got married…fight us about it), and the very real conversation we had on our walk this morning about how many kids we actually want now that we have 2 (spoiler: 3, and a maybe to 4??).
OK then we have a push present REVEAL (yes, the brown box that was right in front of Alex’s eyes for MONTHS had a pink LV Speedy in it), Mother's Day gift ideas for the guys listening (phone cases, name necklaces, shopping sprees… you're welcome), a quick update on Alex’s mat leave, and a real recap of the first two weeks with 2 under 2 (the divide and conquer dynamic, what advice we took too far, the new morning + bedtime routines, and yes the SNOO is working with baby #2!!!). Plus, we get into something on Harrison’s mind this week: can dads have "mom brain" too?! (Apparently yes, and the more involved you are, the worse it is???)
Then a "What We're Watching" update - Survivor Season 50 (& Harrison is officially applying for 2027??) and the Summer House drama continues (no, we didn't listen to the leaked audio). We also have a new segment to try out: TWEET OF THE WEEK (GLP-1s are out-earning the entire AI industry?!), and THINGS WE DMED EACHOTHER on the hot take that dads only really need to show up once baby #2 arrives… do we agree?! (NO!).
LOVE YOU GUYS!
Ps. Guys this is Jules now I need to say that I know Election Day is the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November (idk WHERE I got the Nov 4th thing (2008???) but I swear I black out when we record lol)
