In short
Postpartum preparation and recovery planning; gentle parenting vs “too many toys”; toddler street-safety training; plus a segment on Bravo/“Loverboy” internet drama and other pop-culture chatter.
Guests
None. The episode is hosted by two parents, Jules and Harrison (co-hosts discussing their own family routines and experiences).
Guest backgrounds (hosts’ context)
Harrison and Jules are parents of a toddler (“Bubz”) and are preparing for baby number two (“baby boy”/“Tate”). They discuss postpartum shopping, nursery setup, feeding plans, and parenting strategies.
Key claims
- “Too many toys” can cause distraction and shallow play; signs include bouncing between toys and not engaging deeply.
- Toys that encourage focused play (e.g., play kitchen, farmhouse) are preferred over button/light-up toys (e.g., a push-button lawnmower that just releases bubbles).
- Street safety under age two is taught through repetition and physical guidance (“sidewalk is safe, street is not safe”), plus modeling safe behavior (slow stop, look both ways).
- Postpartum kit shopping helps recalibrate expectations and reduce denial about recovery.
Notable examples
- Easter weekend itinerary: multiple egg hunts, Easter bunny visit, and a scooter gift.
- Toy cleanup rule: “one thing in, one thing out.”
- Japan-style street-safety demo referenced (dummy car “hits” kids).
- Feeding support via Bobby’s “feeding room” and plans to breastfeed initially; hope to reuse the Snoo for sleep.

1:13Well, you guys, we could have set that culture from the top. Yeah, I don't agree with the Jules, as I can assure you imagine. Harrison only agrees with it because he's hungover. I'm in great spirits, Jules. But you will work all day. I have a well I have a full day of calls yeah you really do so I'm back to back till 4.30 hopefully squeeze in a quick little workout and then a no phone evening with you and Bubz with March Madness and hopefully pizza night will you do pizza night tonight I'd love to do homemade pizzas I literally have gestational diabetes I want to eat the pizza what if we do sourdough bread okay done yes I had sourdough pizza this weekend From where?
1:57It was like frozen from H-E-B, but they make it here. I don't remember the brand. Okay. I'll send it to you. We have to go to H-E-B. We've got to get there. It was really good. It was like fresh baked, blah, blah, blah, but it's frozen. That's fine. Yeah. I'll send it to you. So basically, it's a local pizzeria that freezes their pizzas and sells them in grocery stores. Mm-hmm. That was a man. It's a great business. It's a great - Definition of a man's plane. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. I was clarifying. I was actually clarifying that it wasn't like a national brand. It was a restaurant brand. Okay.
2:34Because where I was going with it was it's a phenomenal business taking restaurant concepts and bringing packaged versions to grocery stores. Correct. Yes. That I agree with. All right. Ready? Okay. Every time. Welcome back to another episode of Two Parents in a Podcast. We're like carrying Easter over with our colors today. Okay, so today's episode, first of all, please, if you're listening, subscribe, like the video, follow on Spotify. You guys are doing a very, are they still doing a good job? They are. Good job, you guys. Thank you. And then today's episode is a fun one. we're coming off of the Easter holiday which Harrison's now comparing to a springtime Christmas which is fun we're going to talk about prepping the postpartum kit and how that brought back some memories for me because I gaslit myself into thinking that birth was just like a walk in the park and then we went to the store to buy the things for the nursery and the diapers for me for afterwards and I just like brought back all these memories we're going to talk about gentle parenting um Harrison was like I think I'm a gentle parent and I was like I don't think you are I think you have the term wrong um and then Easter gifts and Easter gifts is more of a segue into is there such thing as too many toys for your kids and what does that mean so we also have some good things we dm'd some street safety it's a good episode so here we go big Easter guy you set up a phenomenal itinerary for us Harrison did not know I was texting your sister about this actually I said all day Harrison kept saying so Easter so we started off our day yesterday walking to get coffee and the whole walk to get the coffee Harrison was like so Easter's fun and I was like yeah Easter's really fun because he saw our neighbor's kids run out of the house in the morning and go on an Easter egg hunt and he was like what's going on with that and I was like well the Easter bunny visits every house and hides eggs so but last year when we had Easter you didn't understand that with Bubz because she was too young so we didn't do that this year we did it but not as like not right when she wakes up but as she gets older like that will be the thing that we do on Easter and so he coined it a Christmas in the spring which I think is pretty accurate because somebody comes and visits, but he likes the Easter bunny more than Santa because bunnies actually exist.
5:15And I'm sorry if your kids are listening. Everyone exists. You planned a great Easter. I don't know what else to say. Watching these kids just sprint out of the house at 7am and we did three Easter egg hunts this weekend. Pubs loves to pick up the eggs and put them in her basket. It's a very well done holiday. It's just fun. I don't think it gets the same attention up north. that it does down south. It's a big thing down here. Was Easter big for you growing up? Yes. It was big in terms of like the chocolate component of it, but it felt very festive. Okay. All day yesterday. Just so we're clear, just so we can level set what happened.
5:57So Friday night, you did a girls-only Easter egg hunt with the kids. Saturday, there was a massive thing at the park. There was probably 200 plus kids at our park doing a mega Easter egg hunt. Next year, I think we're going to get involved with the park community and try and add some dynamics to it. It was super well done. We think we can sprinkle a little cherry. I think the bunny should come. Yeah, I totally agree. And then we hosted like 30 people at our house on Sunday, yesterday, for a Easter egg hunt. And we had a bunny come. Yeah, we had an Easter bunny come. Here's the thing about Easter.
6:40It's just, and holidays in general, they're just fun with kids, I think. Like our whole block's involved, our whole block's doing something. And so it just makes it fun. And I made a video. I made a TikTok talk whenever I was tying the bow on her. Oh, I blocked you on TikTok so you didn't see these. The reason I blocked you was I did an unboxing of your aprons and I didn't want you to see it. And so I always go and block you and I do that around your birthday or something so I need to unblock you. But what I, so what you didn't see was I made a video of me tying the bow on her scooter, talking about how pre-kids I said like we were not going to do big holiday gifts and things like that.
7:17And then you actually have the kid and you see the joy on their face and how it totally changes you and how you want them to have that joy and experience that joy and have the Easter Bunny come over and wear the outfits and do all these things. and how motherhood, what I thought it would look like without kids versus what it does look like with kids. It's two totally different things. I totally agree. But what I'd kind of like put a bit of a different spin on it is that she still doesn't like gifts. What she loves is like experiences and moments. Right. And so. But you want to get, but I always was like, we're not going to do lots of gifts.
7:54And it's like for Easter, there was that scooter. and I was like, this will be really fun in the morning for her to get it. Yes. You want to put the bow on it. I wanted the bow to be tied perfectly. Just because it's pure joy to see them have pure joy. Oh my goodness, I had something to say and I'm totally forgetting what it was. Well, what you said to me in that moment was, does she have too many toys? Okay, okay, that isn't where I was going with it, but... Do you want me to do toys or do you want me to say what I was going to say? You can say what you were going to say. Okay. Okay, so little tip for hiding gifts.
8:31Hiding? Hiding gifts that you're going to give me. Okay. Okay. No, did you find your apron? Like, we got to put them in areas that I won't look. In Bubz's closet? What was my job this weekend? Oh, you did. You organized her closet. Did you open them now? Well, I had to find out what was in the closet No, so you knew what you were getting Unfortunately I didn't want to tell you yesterday So, you know one area I never go I'm just going to give you a great tip No, go to the playroom My closet Your closet I am never in your closet The only time I'm ever in your closet Is when Bubz runs there and I go and get her So if you ever need to hide something from me Please your closet and you don't even need to hide it good.
9:23I can just set it in there. Yeah. But then the other advice on that is don't hide it. The only time I could ever imagine going into your closet would be if you put some of my clothes in there. So if you're going to wear my clothes, I would say put them back in my closet or if you do put them in your closet, just don't put them close to where you're hiding things. Yeah, I can hide everything in my swimsuit then. You don't know where that's at. Yeah, I'd never open a drawer. It's not even a drawer. There are drawers in there, though. Yeah, but this isn't that. Okay, okay, darn it. So you knew what I was getting you.
10:00It was a 10 out of 10 gift. I'd say that it's the best gift I've gotten in three years, five years. Really? Because it has to do with Bob's or why? Because it is, there's utility behind it. Tough, because I got you a Louis Vuitton duffel recently. Yeah, I don't like things like that. I don't think this really goes to show. Like you. I'm not a material gift guy. Look, I like that gift way more than a fancy bag. Yeah. Thank you very much for the bag. No, no, no. I love that. But I love that about you. So I thought it was a great gift too. And it was something that I wanted to give you guys. And so anyways, they have their aprons.
10:38Bubz likes putting it on. But then the new word off. Off. So then we take it off. And then on. Then we put it back on. And then off. And then back on. She did enjoy her Easter gifts. But the question Harrison asked me was, he said, does she have too many toys? And I thought, oh, the question that I knew was going to come up one day. Because another thing I said before I was a mom was, we're not going to have a ton of toys around the house. We're not going to be just like toy central. And I would say we've become a bit of toy central. However, I did do a clean out of toys when we got the new play kitchen.
11:13Because I think when one thing comes in, one thing has to go out. so I was looking it up and basically here's what I learned too much too many toys is distracting that is actually a thing and the signs that they have too many toys is they pull out all the toys and they're not playing with them so they're bouncing from toy to toy to toy yeah I think we do this and the problem is it makes them harder to explore deeply and have like focused play I think her play kitchen is a prime example of her though playing with a toy for 30 minutes and focusing on it yes and funny enough i think it was the experience with the toy kitchen which is what sparked the um which is what sparked me bringing it up in the first place it's like oh wow she's actually playing with this all this other stuff she's not playing with so it felt like she had too many items and we should get more concentrated with it the other toy she does focus play with is the farmhouse yep so she can take these little animals and put them in there and there's a bell and things like that.
12:12And the video I watched said avoid toys that have a button and then light up. So all they have to do is press one button. And then I thought about this and it's very true. So she is a lawnmower where you push one button, bubbles come out and that's it. And she just presses that one button and then walks off and then leaves the bubbles coming out and she doesn't do focused play with it. But for example, her play kitchen and her farmhouse are two toys that encourage focused play with her and she plays with them for longer. and so I do think that those types of toys are really good. So are we going to do another cleanup?
12:44Well, I think we might put the lawnmower up. Yeah, I'm very supportive of that. Otherwise, though, I did just do a cleanup and we don't have a ton of toys in that area. So I actually feel good about where we're at. However, my thing with the play kitchen is she does have some pots and pans that are sitting in a cabinet and she has some little food bins that are sitting in a cabinet. And I'm not going to give them all to her. I'm just going to keep the play kitchen as is right now. And then in a month, I might give her a pot and a pan. I almost got Tate something this weekend. And then I didn't, as an effort to not give more toys.
13:22What was it? At HEB, they have these HEB, not a cart, but a basket. Full with all HEB branded food. It is so cute. Like toy food? Toy food. I mean, we'd be very supportive of that. I think we're going to have to. We're a big H-E-B family. It is so cute. I'll send a picture. Or maybe I'll get it the next time I go. That. I didn't know they had that. Me either. See a shopping cart. Where is it? What H-E-B-D shop at? The one on the east side. Okay. By my house. Okay. We need to Lake Austin drive one. But no, it was by like, it was by all the Easter stuff on an end cap. Do you think it's Easter specific or do they have it year round?
14:06No, no, no. Year round. Okay, good. I'll go today and get it. She's like, I will get it. It's really cute. Okay, guys, this is an exciting one. Yeah, and I think she's starting to understand the toast is fake and the coffee cups are fake. So she'll bring them to us and we'll nibble on the toast, all of us. And I was shocked by that. She also eats real toast. So it's very... The play kitchen's been a hit, I gotta say. I gotta give that one a 10 out of 10 because she really does focus play with it for 30 minutes. yeah same with the the toys that like the fake blender and the fake uh yeah coffee machine and toaster the other thing she needs i told alex about this it's a mud kitchen which is a play kitchen outside which once we do our pool i think we will give her we see right now though jules we can't do a mud kitchen for about six months because we got to do the play kitchen yeah we got to focus on the play kitchen time so that's the skinny there um so too many toys is a thing the other thing we did this weekend was we went to the store and we bought my postpartum stuff like we went and harrison organized baby boys nursery
16:43um and i lost my train i thought i took a nap i woke up he had done the nursery really cute it's so funny the difference between baby one and baby two because with baby one our nursery was dialed in two months before i had her we had so many clothes it was so organized everything was labeled baby number two we have like a couple pair of pajamas like but i feel so good about like i feel like that room is ready and we could go to the hospital today come back tomorrow and like we won't we won't miss a beat but we know what we need and that is in the first three months they just wear pajamas or our kids just wear pajamas you need diapers you need diaper cream and we've got that you need some bath things like a little towel we've got that and other than that like he's gonna sleep in our room so we don't need you know the crib sheets are on but and we have the sleep sack ready but like he doesn't use that till he's six months old six maybe eight i don't even remember diaper pail we've got the diaper pail ready to carry around So it's like what I've realized that we need, we've got the necessities.
17:48So we went to the store and we got the postpartum things. And it really, I don't know if any other moms can relate to this, but I had gaslit myself into thinking that birth was easy, fun, comfy, pleasant. And then I got to the store and we were looking at like postpartum diapers. And I was like, ah, like, oh, that hurt. and it was like this reminder and Harrison looked at me and he's like it's not going to be the same and I do everyone does tell me birthing one like baby number one versus baby number two number two is a lot easier you don't tear as much you know what to expect the recovery is not as bad and so I'm looking forward to that but this is the first time that I've been like scared about the birth no it's okay I know that I would do it I would do it every day I would do it twice a day I would experience that pain twice a day to have the joy of bubs but it it is sending like a shock through me in terms of toughness of pregnancy one on a scale of one to ten how tough was it or how yeah how hard how hard was it well i don't want to give it a 10 because i know i know that harder does exist so i'm going to give it an eight okay and what about pregnancy too wait sorry pregnancy or birthing pregnancy oh oh okay um so i heard about this thing that can happen when you're pregnant where you're allergic to the baby inside you so for 10 months you have a rash on you wow that to me i felt i felt a lot better about myself so that's and i'm sure there's a lot of things out there like that that exist in terms of of of you know pain and struggle and nausea that you've experienced uh and the hormonal side of it that you've experienced in your life like in your in your specific context i'll give it an eight out of ten okay pregnancy one what about pregnancy two six point five okay so pretty drastic improvement but the first the first 20 weeks were harder but the last 20 have been easier and then what about postpartum baby one she killed one to ten well my stitches fell out on a walk so and then i had to get cauterized with no pain medicine that hurt although i know it can be worse so again i'll give it an eight so hopefully we get a good improvement off of that for postpartum too well i think that it will be an improvement because number one again i know what to expect number two i know epidurals aren't for everybody epidurals are for me i'm a candidate for them i want one and mine didn't work the first time I'll know if it's working the second time which I'm excited about and so I think that will automatically make it easier felt like so many things something like added things went wrong the first time around and so I'm I'm hopeful that that that same dynamic doesn't occur I'm hopeful what everybody says is true which is just like number two is easier and then they say three like they say each birth it gets easier the time gets less your body knows what to do and when your body knows what to do and you know what's coming like you know how it is the first time you probably ran a marathon you had no idea how it was going to feel but then the second time you just although it's the same amount of hard you know what you to expect so it makes it a little bit easier yeah i'm gonna i'm gonna stay away from making male body comparisons to pregnancy i feel like it's a wise idea i don't even know what you could possibly compare well you just compared to two marathons.
21:21I'm not going to talk about the feeling of mile 22 in marathon one versus marathon two. I'm not going to do that. Well, I most so meant the unknown of doing something hard once versus doing it the second time. But I will say postpartum hurt more than I ever anticipated. It was more painful than I ever thought. Yeah, it's unbelievable. It was unbelievable to watch. We'll see how time number two goes. But anyways. You're a champ. All that to say, it brought back. The one thing I am wondering if I'm going to do again is the witch hazel pads. I know you don't know what that means. No, I do. I do. That's my one thing I'm wondering about.
22:10Okay, so this weekend we bought that. We bought diapers. We bought diaper cream. We bought a diaper pail. We just went to the store and did it all. It's so funny you register for all that for the first one. It's so much less stressful doing that run the second time around versus the first time around. Because I remember the first time around, you're just like overload of products and services and what do you use. And every parent swears by different items. And we know the process. It's so much more enjoyable this time around. Well, the first time around, you go to the store with the list that you didn't make.
22:48And it's like you need pacifiers. You have to pick the bottle type. You need a bottle washer. You need the baby Brezza. And then the second time around, it's like we don't need a full bottle washer. We need one brush because we're the kind of house that does one brush that's specific for bottles. And then we use a drying rack. Done. Like that's the kind of house. And you just have to figure out how things fit into your household. but with baby and listen we have a lot of these things already stocked like you know the bouncer tate didn't love the bouncer we did keep it so we have the bouncer for him we have the moses basket as we call it we're bringing all this stuff out of the basement today but it's just like we'll see if we use it we'll see if we don't we have it but like we didn't use but we didn't use bottle sterilizers yeah and today is the official day that the house we do the turnover in the house and so like all of the baby two items are coming up so like the duna's getting installed the baby moses basket is finding its place so that we were doing that organization before he comes home from the hospital i don't think it's good to give tate two weeks of like singing around the house okay so we did all the shopping um what are you going to be doing differently for baby number two that you did for baby number one?
24:09Well, a lot of things, including obviously how we've set up the nursery, but number, but the main thing I've been talking about is this beating journey where I'm not going to put as much pressure on myself with Tate. I breastfed exclusively for six months and then combo fed up to a year. And so I was just mentally, like, I don't think you can mentally recover fully while you're breastfeeding. And then I got pregnant again. And so one thing that my body's really looking forward to is a bit of a break hormonally. It's funny. I was thinking today on the way here. I was like, am I going to wake up?
24:47You know, how many months am I going to have myself wake up and pump or breastfeed? Or is there going to be an instance where I do insert some formula in there? And this is honestly why I'm happy that we're partnering with Bobby so early on. Because did you know they have lactation support online? They have this thing called a feeding room. where moms can go on and get like actual lactation support, or you can ask anything. You can ask about sleep schedules, anything like that. That's awesome. I like a formula company that isn't just like, hey, use formula. They're saying like, we're going to support you throughout anything.
25:20So we do have our Bobby at our house. We're ready for that. We're going to see how the feeding goes. Am I going to combo feed right off the bat? I don't think so. I think I'm going to breastfeed for a month, and then from there reassess how it goes. But that's one thing that I'm going to do differently. probably the biggest thing that I'm going to do differently is not put so much pressure on myself. Sitting at the proper hotel in that meeting, I'll never forget having to get up, go pump, and Uber the milk home like gone are the days. So that's going to be the biggest thing that I'm going to do.
25:56And the other big thing that I'm going to do, I don't know. a lot of it's going to be I don't know is there anything you can think of that we'll do differently I like the way we did the sleep schedule I mean it's all going to be different because we're going to be you know not just having one baby we're going to have two here's what I'm hoping we can do the same okay that's a good point and that is the snoo I trust you on the feeding journey I support you through the feeding journey um i saw what a challenge it was for you um and so uh love you know how thoughtful you're being around uh what it's going to look like this time hold on can i add something to this really quickly while i'm sitting here thinking about it yeah going in to the feeding journey with tate i had a lot of energy reserve, right?
26:53Like I was sleeping a ton. It's your only baby pregnancy. If I was tired while I was pregnant, I would just get in bed right now coming into the second baby off of being a toddler mom. I just think I'm a little bit closer to my wits end. Does that make sense? So like, I don't have as much, if I am up all night or if I'm up three times during the night well then i wake up and i'm still you know you're still mom to two so i just think that that energy reserve isn't as leisurely for you and then like you're trying to work and you're doing all these things and so the feeding journey while i never think your feeding journey should sacrifice i do think you can prioritize your mental health totally makes makes so much sense okay go ahead on the were you talking about the snoo yeah i think the things that I hope we can do the same as is the sleeping and the sleep program and the SNU like the SNU was a phenomenal experience for us I know that we've had some friends who have loved it we've had some friends who couldn't get their kids to to do it um so I'm hoping that that we have luck with the SNU again yeah and I think that we don't you don't know what kind of baby you're gonna have at the beginning are you gonna have a good sleeper are you not gonna have a good sleeper Is there going to be colic?
28:12I mean, you never know. That snoo was our lifeline. It was our lifeline. And you forget about this until you go to pull it out and you think, whoa, she slept so good in that snoo. And for us, fortunately, at the six-month mark, getting her out of it was a non-event. Because they naturally grow out of it. They want to be in their crib at that point. They want the rocking to stop. And there's a weaning mode, but we didn't even use it. yeah we just had a perfect experience with it so yeah but bubs was easy so that's that's the that's the things i'll do differently with baby number two very nice did you know the average employer has to sort through roughly 250 resumes per job opening talk about time consuming but if you're hiring here's the good news you can now review all these resumes and applications faster thanks to ZipRecruiter.

30:49Yeah. I do think like why? But why do that? Yeah, it feels like you're like really... You're turning the knife. Yeah, I agree with that. Did you see his lover boy response? Yes, I did. And what did you think of that? C to C plus response. And can you summarize it? Did you see Jules? No, not really. Okay. So I thought the initial response was an F. And basically they came out and they remember like during COVID when all the restaurants shut down and like all the different Instagram accounts would come out and be like, here are ways that you can support your local restaurants, right? Right. They did one of those.
31:34It was like, here's ways that you can support Loverboy. It was like, go to your stores and tell us you want us and go online and shop and be positive on the Internet. It was like swinging a mess. And the only reason why I have upgraded it to a C is because they then dropped a merch line that said Carl's a mess, which I thought was pretty funny. so they're doing quick they're not doing flavor drops they're not doing well here's here's where it comes to me when i look at the common traits of successful entrepreneurs i know one thing that they all have in common is they aren't scared okay and lover boy's response was a scared response they're not leaning into the situation it's it is very very hard to buy momentum as a business.
32:31And they have momentum right now. And he has a golden opportunity to revive his business. And from an outsider's perspective, it appears he's operating scared and he's not going to do that. And there's this little short-term blip that he's going to get in sales right now. And I fear that in three, six, nine months, he's just going to be in the exact same situation if he doesn't do something drastic with it. And I gave that like, you know, whatever, funny throwaway idea yesterday. Like he needs to make a move right now. And he is in a position today that he wasn't in 90 days ago where like people are watching him to see what moves he makes.
33:12And it appears very well, it appears are there to support him through that transition. well I'll be I'll use myself as an example like right now I spend a lot of time in bed I kind of am like looking at internet stuff a little bit more than normal I would be prepared to like buy something even I would be a consumer myself if he did something that was like so cool and I would just say he doesn't have anybody's in the room's attention it's just like the car I don't know I don't know who Carl is okay great like I would like to see a flavor drop of some capacity. People were commenting Sierra mist genius.
33:50Like there, there's some really cool things I think he could do right now. And I do, let me ask you this though. Can you answer this? He posted, I see all of your marketing ideas, but I have$3. Like basically we don't have the money. What does he do about that? And that sucks, but plenty of brands don't have budget, but what he does have is he has attention and he's eyeballs on him. And there's plenty of ways that he can leverage that attention into opportunities for the business. Like the most obvious being taking pre-orders for whatever innovation he comes up with, which I think is what he did with those sweatshirts.
34:27But inherently like sweatshirts, saying Carl is a mess, like that isn't going to save your business. That may buy you a couple of days, a week or two of runway, but it really appears he's in the situation where he needs to do something a lot bigger. and you always say one thing to me you can't buy you can't buy momentum and and this guy has so much momentum and if i were him i'd probably just like look in the mirror and say all right i've been building this thing for call it eight years and i built it behind this mega tailwind bravo but like it doesn't feel like the core product that we built behind has worked okay And so this feels like an amazing situation to when you have the engaged eyeballs to bring the community in and and have them a part of incubating what comes next for Loverboy and that next chapter of of Loverboy, which to me doesn't feel like it's in it's in Seltzer.
35:27Do you think that, well, Loverboy also is a great name right now for him to do something with. I don't know what that is. But we are in a love square, not a triangle. So that seems like something you could capitalize on. But number two, I don't know. I don't think you take the Burger King approach. But, you know, take some calls from people. Call them back. So you just see what they have to say. I would take my five best innovation ideas and I'd bring them to the community. I'd bring them to the viewers and I'd say, what do you think we should do and why? So at this moment, you kind of want Kyle to go full entrepreneur.
36:03Yeah. Which I think would be really good for him to rebrand. Like, what she just gave him, from what I can tell. And don't be scared. Like, the whole point is don't be scared. You did the hard part. You told people that you had three months of runway and that the business wasn't working. Now go do something about it, dude. Yeah. Do something about it. He's gotten a gift on a platter. Him and Sierra have such an opportunity right now career-wise. I really want to see them do something with that. Yeah, and on that product, one thing I've heard him say is 95 % of the Bravo demo and their following is women.

36:42Create something for your demographic. Correct. I think mainly women – well, I don't know. I was going to say mainly women are paying attention to this. But if I'm just taking brunch yesterday, it's about 70-30, 60-40. I was just shocked though. Everyone, like you have a bunch of parents, everyone knew what was going on. Yeah. Everyone. My big fear for him in the business is that this is going to lead to like a three to six week bump in sales. He's going to think that this is the path that the business should be taking moving forward. and then he's going to wake up in 90 days and sales are going to be down to flat.
37:24Like sales are going to be collapsing. To me, a merch drop is just like, there's no longevity to it. It's a quick fix. So I do think like a flavor drop has longevity. Yeah, I think he needs to do more than that. Okay, well, we can't wait. I mean, that's the best you can do, you know? The best you can do is just tell him on this pod and hope. Put it into the ether. Put it into the ether and hope he hears it or he feels it. But I would love to watch it. I would love to watch something go down. I was going to just come up with a hilarious. The Kyle move, from what I know, would be to launch a crypto token.
38:00What about like Summer House and Generals? Do they have any moves here? What? I mean, Jesse launching a song is laugh out loud funny. I think that's great. Great. Like nailed it. Congratulations, Jesse. I got to give Carl and the blonde lady. Lindsay. They did an Uber Eats ad. I saw that. Phenomenal. A Carl's a Mass Uber Eats ad. Phenomenal. Okay. That's the only, like that was the A to A plus move. Okay. Did you see this ad? No. Very funny. Him crying to her. they used to date and it was like Uber Eats for any occasion. But is that them or is that Uber coming to them with the idea? But where I got to give them credit is I'm sure that everyone was in their ear about ideas to do and they went and they did something good and I'm sure they got a nice bag for it.
38:55Correct, which we'd love to see. Just has nobody gone to Kyle or Amanda or West or Sierra with like some idea like that? I'm sure. I'm sure West is too scared to do something. Amanda is too busy picking out her next outfit choice of Wes's clothes. Sierra's the one they should go to. Some brand. I'm sure she's cooking up something big. She's out and about with a guy. Who I just don't know why, but loved. I love it. Just from afar, like his aura. What did his shirt say? Were they smooching? No. How do you know they weren't friends then? They could just be friends. We don't know. We have no idea.
39:36Yeah. We have no idea if they're friends. But it's fun to speculate. Yeah. Also, Wes was seen on a plane. He was taking a trip. Wow. But I'm over it. Right, right, right, right. But we're over it. Okay. We forgot we were over it. Clearly I'm not, but. Yeah. Same. We're just watching to see what people do. Any other internet drama? No. No. I don't know what's going on lately. Secret Lives of Mormon Wives or. Oh, yeah, there was with that. What? Jessie, like, posted a video with maybe Marciano. Oh, the arm? Yeah. I just saw that this morning. She's leaning in. I don't know. There was just, it was just so funny.
40:30It was just like we had a month of, like, Taylor Franke and then we had Jessie and then, And then, you know, Summer House kind of came in and was like, hold on, Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. Let's take this week. I feel like Summer House was like, hold my coffee. And then we held the coffee and the coffee just like wasn't hot. And it's just like kind of lukewarm. And now we just want to give the coffee back and find other interesting things to talk about. Do you want to give back to Secret Lives of Mormon Wives? Because, I mean, they can carry a news week. Well, this like, you know, speaking of not being scared, this Jessie.
40:58So Jessie was not. I didn't know who this Jessie was. Call it two or three weeks ago. Jessie Draper? Yes. She's not scared. Okay. That's what I'm going to say. This is someone who does not seem scared. She's not scared. Right? Like, you see your ex trying to control the rhetoric. What do you do? Boom. We go and call her daddy. We shut his ass down. All right? People are going to speculate what I'm doing with my little love life here. Boom. Let's just give him a hard tease. Give enough of a clue. Even though it's super controversial, as you say. I like this, Jesse. This, Jesse. Kyle, take notes.
41:32Right. Well, Jessie runs a very successful business, Jay-Z Hairstyles. Oh, I forgot about that. So this is not Jessie. So she knows what she's doing. Jessie knows what she's doing. I mean, Jessie is like the sole breadwinner of that house. And like, I think besides Taylor and probably Whitney now, made the most of the Secret Life women. And what do we think is going on with Taylor? because i i've seen her active on on instagram per you telling me to go look at her page very non-tailor for her not to take the bull by the horns and just like sit us down and talk to us she's definitely like doing piano lessons and like she's with her kids that she does have custody of like she's we don't i don't know what she's doing she's um she's she's working on herself is what the vibe is giving it's giving i'm taking a moment working on myself i don't know i think she's like messing with us these videos that she's posting i think you got to take the ball by the horns i i don't i don't think you can mess up that bad and not address it but we don't know what she recently did like what are these we saw the video from three years ago you need to address the video from three years ago and I get she was charged from it but as as people always say like as set as fucked up as it is when you see it versus when you hear about it it hits different and it it needs to be addressed but I don't know if she can address it by saying I've learned I've become based on what she just did that we still don't know did she throw another chair can she not come out and address that video because what she just did oh so you're saying that she may have just done something worse I'm just saying I think that has to be the thing that's holding her back otherwise you would come out and be like guys I paid the price for this I've learned from this completely changed you would own up to it but for her not to do that I'm like well what did you just do she just lost custody of her youngest kid I didn't know that so I'm like wait whoa whoa whoa there was a new custody loss yeah dakota just went to the courthouse and filed for full custody of ever and got it yeah but is this like not the time to just get off the internet and yes i guess that that's where i'm confused that's where i'm confused is like i see a video of you of you of you shaking your ass in the shower okay you see that video yeah wild video i see a video of you know talking about working on yourself which which that was a that one i kind of made more sense to me and then there was there was a piano video he said he was like playing the piano yeah okay i don't think i saw that one so long story short i don't it doesn't feel right yeah i agree i just i the missing question mark that we have right now there was just a call there was a domestic something so hey that's what paused filming I'm in a bad place I'm gonna take some time I'm gonna take some space and I'm not gonna upload videos to the internet and be shaking my ass in the shower with my child that seems like a okay-ish starting point she's done that before though we've seen this from her she took the time off what was it two years ago she took some time off she came back troubled character unfortunately it sounds it sounds to be the case there was something on easter though about how the last 40 days have been really hard i don't know i don't know what's going on all all i gotta say is it's not obvious and something recently happened that we don't know what it was but that's what caused filming to pause and it's not the video that video is from three years ago so i don't know if you can she also has to she's she's got her another chess piece in the equation is dakota well the internet they come at you hard but they also forgive quick case in point kanye west who's forgiven kanye west i mean two nights sold out sold out two shows at so far this weekend did you not see all the tiktoks no it was all people were people were there the audacity and they were like this is for all the people that said nobody would forgive kanye sold out arena twice back to back not me not me not me not me but people i know how about that crazy i can't believe that was on your radar it was also on my radar um speaking of radars I do think we should talk about how our phone box is going the phone box has arrived the unnecessary box that we put our phones in well it's only on weekdays so we don't have an update since our last recording correct okay okay topic that we wanted to discuss although I do have something to add to it what I made a purchase today without your permission what was it it was that camera you DMed me did you buy it yeah okay great it's a disposable digital camera i tried to buy oh but it bluetooth to your phone yeah so there's no screen you take the photos and then you upload them to your phone so that way we can capture moments without having our phones love it and i have a camera camera but bubs thinks it's a toy so it makes it almost impossible to take photos of her or photos of moments.
48:53Yeah, not having the screen is key. Yeah, because she thinks like this is the coolest toy ever and she like disabled. My camera settings are all messed up. Okay, topic that we have a couple topics that we're going to run through that happened this week and that are just like conversation starters. So number one, the most effective way you've taught your kid not to cross the street under two because one thing that we were having happen with Bubz was she was never wandering into the street and then recently we've noticed like to go to Winnie's house she just wants to cut across the street, but she doesn't know to stop and look for cars.
49:24And I was looking at the way they do it in Japan, street safety, and they sit all the kids down and they have like a dummy run in front of a dummy car and the car hits the kid. That's how they teach them. They do a demo. They're all sitting on bleachers and on a track, they do a fake car hitting the kids. And none of the kids flinch. They all just sit there very calmly. And there's like a narrator over the screen and they're like, this is what happens if you run in front of a car. And the comments were like, whoa, geez. But some of the comments like this is how we learn. We don't learn by reading a book.
50:00Like kids need to learn by watching and seeing. It's the most important way that you can burn something into their head. Well, we're not going to have that demo. So I'm wondering here, what's the best way for us to teach her not to go in front of the street? So I asked somebody the other day that I saw walking because they have like a three-year-old. I said, hey, how did you teach her under two about street safety? And she said, every time she started to walk over there, I just, I pulled her back and I just said, sidewalk is safe. Street is not safe. And I just kept doing that until she understood.
50:30And I thought that's, that's one way we could do it. Yeah. From what I read, this is just a tricky scenario because they're too young to actually know what's going on. And so you just need to be fully, like fully uh on on watch when you're outside the one thing that i've started doing on it is whenever we cross the street like i you we have really good visibility on our street as to whether a car is coming or not but regardless of whether or not a car is coming i like i do a very slow and dramatic stop look both ways make sure there's not a car and then go and like even though i don't think that she's like actually grasping it it i think like kind of what you just said to that point on like we're starting to just let her see that behavior and even if it just gets into we don't just bolt into the street because unfortunately like she will just bolt into the street if you are not watching her like a hawk yeah we have to watch her 24 7 which is just something that we need to know as parents but i do think because right now she's in that age where she wants to go explore and she wants to go and do things but she can't understand like hey don't cross the street in case a car's coming look both ways like that would mean nothing to her yeah and it's it's funny this is like a great example of this of this dynamic of like i think i may be becoming a gentle parent because like in these in these scenarios like what i don't like doing what i've learned about myself is like i don't like saying no i like explaining and i was like man like i feel like people talk so much shit about gentle parents like i talk so much shit about gentle parenting but like i feel like when you if she goes to bolt the street i i feel like what as a parent it's very easy to just like over inundate your kid with no's and how effective is that message going to be if they don't understand why you're saying no and so i feel like i've turned into a massive explainer of things where it's like hey we can't cross the straight because if you cross the street the car can give you our um ouchie and so on and so forth okay so number one on the over-annudate your kid with no i think then no loses its power totally that's so i think you got to use your nose sparingly which is something that i i would have never known but i did read about i think dr brown talked about like don't just loosely throw out notes but when you say no she knows you mean business i also think secondarily what you're talking about with explaining is is not gentle parenting i think gentle parenting got a really bad rap but i also think part of it's true which is like you say i know you're having really big feelings and while you have this tantrum we're all gonna sit here until you work through those big feelings for five minutes and then we're gonna go outside okay so yeah i don't know what gentle parenting is i i don't well i don't think just because you're not yelling no you're not a gentle parent you're just saying instead of like the reason you can't hold this knife not just like no no no no no tape but just like we don't hold this knife instead we hold the fork forks are fun that's not gentle parenting and knives can hurt you yeah like you have rules and things like you definitely have rules with her ton of rules yeah you very much so like have these things you expect but the way that you want to get there isn't by just like i understand that you want to hold the knife.
53:59She's like, no knife. I guess that's kind of the point more so that I was trying to make. It's like, I'm anti-overknowing. Yeah, you're just not a no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Yeah. And there's some things where you're like, I'll let her figure it out. You're a little bit of a, what do they call it? Fafo, fuck around and find out. You have a little bit of that in you. You have a little bit of explaining in you. Like, you kind of dabble in all different types. I want her to understand. That's my core goal here. And I just think firing those at her, she'll never she just it will lock her up and it'll paralyze her totally that's not gentle parenting though i don't think bad use of words uh no misunderstanding of the definition misunderstanding the definition which i think a lot of people have jules i was just gonna go back to the street thing really quick did you guys go to safety town no what's that is this in austin they have safety town everywhere okay it's like it's a program it's like a little mini city you guys didn't go to safety town i've never even heard of it oh my god okay can we're too busy it will be me that looks up the photo um so it's like a little town like little streets and then they have like a coffee shop and a pizza parlor and a police station and then all the kids get like a little bike or something like that and then they're riding around and then they have to stop at stop signs and learn how to cross the street when the light's red it looks like a it's Little town.
55:20Safety town. We have one in Round Rock. I know what we're doing this weekend. Tate and Winners have to go to safety town. Oh, that's how, like, I think that's how I learned. I love it. Love it, love it, love it. And it's just like a little simulation, I would say. I wonder what age you're supposed to go to safety town. One second. How is this not more talked about? Safety town. Typically, age four. Yeah, but I like starting them young. I hate these stage guidelines. But it was fun. I went with my best friend and we just learned to look both ways. Safety is something that's so top of mind. So I love the fact that something like this exists.
56:01I just don't know how we made it this far without hearing about it. And you learned to stop, drop, and roll. Very important. And that's all I can remember. I mean, I was probably four. Is that like the most over-explained safety thing that is never used? Like how often are kids catching on fire? how often are we stopped dropping and rolling yeah and if you're on fire you're not gonna be like stop drop roll well i think you are and that's the purpose no i would be running i'm taking off running and yelling at somebody to to wash me off looking for water yes like i'm looking for a pool i can jump in and i'm not stopping dropping and rolling but maybe i mean i know you're supposed to but in that moment i just don't think i would be thinking about it yeah safety town i think this is too young but i think at like two we could go There you are.
56:47The baby's finally asleep. The house is quiet when that unwanted thought crashes the party. Did I accidentally hurt the baby and not realize it? Or what if I'm a terrible parent? Everyone can see it but me. And there's a whole big laundry list of things like that. And maybe it's something that makes you feel ashamed to even think about. And it's disturbing and it pops into your head out of nowhere, you guys. And that's where no CD comes in because your brain grabs onto that thought and they won't let it go. and now you're spiraling, checking on the baby again, and it's this never-ending cycle.
57:18But here's the thing. A lot of new parents experience exactly this, and it's not just anxiety. Those thoughts that feel sticky, repetitive, and impossible to shake might actually be signs of OCD, a condition that's way too misunderstood and more common in new parents than most people know. OCD involves intrusive, distressing thoughts that cause intense anxiety and behaviors you feel driven to do in order to get relief, even though the relief is short-lived, you guys. That's NoCD.com. oh my god did you see that people have like solved your issue they said if it if this coughing happens more when you eat or drink which it does and when you lay down which is my understanding that it does that hold on i have to pull up spotify but they told you to get um like aloe vera like you know aloe vera that you put on not that but there's some sort of one that you can swallow that apparently it's going to save your your cough okay please order it i i i took a screenshot i took a screenshot and i sent it to you this isn't a this isn't a med it's aloe vera it's a plant yeah that's good for you okay i'll do plants yeah hold on i'm gonna tell you what it is because someone told me the spotify the commenters are so helpful we love you spotify commenters love a commentator and on that note if you're listening you can subscribe on Spotify you can follow you can subscribe please thank you yes yeah oral aloe vera is what it said okay maybe get a referral to a specialist from your PCP that's awful and someone recommended a PCP what's a PCP primary care physician well Alex Willis and texted me and said that Harrison needs a functional medicine doctor she thinks because GPs don't really care these days okay does anyone have a functional doctor this comment Harrison needs a functional practitioner most GPs are limited on what they can do because of insurance yeah that I just think that in general it would be good to have a functional medicine doctor I'd love to find a good one okay so uh 20 people have sent us um something on audiobooks for his reading but the link isn't working jules so do i'm pulling it up because alex has my phone oh i think i saw this so this is on our discussion of is listening to an audiobook count as reading and essentially there was a study and i believe the study was in 2019 but like some guy just published it on his instagram and we've never gotten more dms about a single topic and basically he had a couple key takeaways and he said it does not matter whether you read the book or listen to the book your brain builds the same representation of what it meant okay a point for the audiobook listeners and the best format of a book is one that you enjoy and that gets engaged so it's better to be doing both of both of them one or both because you're engaging with content that's helping expand your world okay but Jules no it's like I'm gonna I'm gonna bring the the um I'm gonna bring the comparison to working out okay okay in working out there's several different types of exercises you can do for your arms but the exercises have different names and they are not the same exercise all I knows that everyone was saying justice for Jules.
1:01:33This isn't the same parallel. You're saying that a forearm push-up and a dumbbell curl are two different things, but what Jules is saying is that it doesn't matter because they still build muscle. Yes, and I think we're not, the core issue I never said, we never said that audio listening was worse than reading. We're just saying it is different and it doesn't count as reading. But it does. You can't do arm curls and say you're doing push-ups. That's my point. We're getting a little lost in the sauce here. I think the point is this is a point for audiobook listeners. This is your fault because of the beautiful Easter that you planned yesterday.
1:02:10And I'm just, my brain is 10 % here. Harrison had a fun day. Is that true? All I wanted was mimosas. Guess how many mimosas I had. Zero. You were drinking like red wine with ice in it. Well, I... What was that? I thought I had a sparkling wine for the mimosas, and it was sparkling red, not sparkling white. Sparkling red is great. It's like apple juice. It was so good. It's so good. I've never had it. But through my mimosas plant, I went to Aperol Spritzes, and it was a phenomenal day. Then you switched to Coors. I noticed at night you were drinking Coors. When did that switch happen? We drank three bottles of Aperol yesterday at our event.
1:02:53yeah I couldn't believe it when Emma was like Jeff said there's no more Aperol I was like no way and there was no more Aperol but I think that Aperol spritzes and Easter are perfect for each other very light bright and airy cocktail but not perfect for Monday morning recording Harrison we need you to show up come on you got a job to do so let's talk about how Japan Airlines is showing where kids are sitting on the plane when you book so you get you get online to book and where it says like you've selected you know 18e there's a crying baby there's now it shows a baby yeah it is a baby crying in the i mean no but yes but no it's just a baby emoji right so i find this very interesting i love love that they're showing people because as a mom if i have a baby that's sitting beside me and you come and take my third seat in the row i'm glad to know that that i don't have to tell you oh make the joke of like oh there's a baby here you already know so number one i love that number two i do think those seats will be booked last i do think that no one's like put me by the baby i think people will be avoiding it yeah i've always i've always said this if you are the type of person that gets annoyed by a baby on a plane by noise canceling headphones it is the easiest solve in the world and that is a win-win for everybody okay so plain and simple i love that they added it i loved it now if you care about it you can sit far away but if if you actually care about it noise canceling headphones done you will not notice the baby this is very simple i would say crying babies on a plane are like the biggest non-event that somehow people make an event this is completely in your control yeah i just love that they're labeling it yeah there's no downside to labeling it i i completely agree with that there's no downside to labeling it you You know, everyone's by there's all this airplane discussion these days, like etiquette, this, that the babies, the food, the this, the that that just.
1:04:56And then the more we can get ahead of it and just say, hey, there's going to be a baby in 18. Great. I want to sit in row 14. Perfect. Do it. And then some people don't care. They have their noise canceling headphones. Great. You can sit by the baby. I think labeling it is is agree. I agree. Everybody wins there. I'm very happy to see this. OK, so. now one problem they will run into though is seat swapping happening so if everyone thinks the baby's in 18E and somebody paid to sit in row 16 so they're not near the baby but then you get on the flight and somebody asks you to trade seats so of course you do it and then the baby ends up sitting by you is that going to be a new form of complaint that can happen of like there was a baby by me but it wasn't labeled I'm just saying there's a potential landmine I do see there and you know what solves that?
1:05:43noise cancelling headphones noise cancelling headphones I agree. I'm just saying, and I would never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever do that. I'm the kind of person that'll swap anybody's seats, but I'm just saying that's, that's one thing I could see people complaining about. Okay. So on the second thing that we DMed, Chick-fil-A is running a cell phone challenge. And what they're doing is if you go to a Chick-fil-A restaurant and if you put your cell phone in a little tub thing they are giving you free ice cream giving you free ice cream i think that this is unbelievable i think more restaurants should do it and i think putting your phone up while you eat needs to come back because i cannot stand looking over and seeing just a full family all on their phones okay i'm gonna i want to build off this and you know who i want to challenge to to ride off this momentum is musicians i thought you were gonna say kyle hi who's kyle kyle yeah um i am so sick of going to concerts and just seeing everyone watching concerts through their phones.
1:07:03Who is an artist that is going to drop a no phone concert? And the only way you can experience it is live and in the moment. And they do like the comedy club thing where they secure your phone in the bag. Because here's the thing about concert videos. You never go back and watch them and they're not as good. Like seeing it with your eyes is the best way to experience it. And when you take a video of it, it doesn't capture the memories of being there and like the vibe in the room. Yeah, everyone's focused on getting the good photo. For the Instagram story. Coldplay does do a thing where they have, for one song, put their phone away.
1:07:39But to me, it's more than that. It is full concert, end-to-end, no phone. I love it. Something's humming up in Jules' mind right now. Well, Chick-fil-A is incentivized for you to put your phone away, probably, because you probably sit there longer and maybe order more food or whatever. but what the incentive at the concert is probably to get their awareness out there so that's what like why what's the incentive of people putting their phones because i think the core like underlying passion for musicians is creating amazing memories and experiences for their fans and i think that the most memorable experience for their fan and the most special concert would inherently be created by them being there and being in the moment and like that is the offset but i do think that is the offset because i guess you don't have it being shared to social but i think because it's so unique that it would then have this like viral component because you'd actually have like proper word of mouth come back into play and i'm sure there'd be like leaks and the amount of earned media coverage you would get would be headless so um and and the artist also can control the content and distribution so the musician can have video cameras there that are recording the show but nothing from a from the actual fan perspective and i get it's like well how do you coordinate meeting up with people and well you know what they did it 20 years ago so figure it out i would like i i love that chick-fil-a is doing this but i'm gonna go back to restaurants here for a moment i would texas roadhouse is coming to mind a sit down of larger uh how do you what's the opposite of fast casual like a sit down restaurant texas roadhouse for example i would like them to do this as well longer meals because chick-fil-a like you go in and you're there what 20 25 30 minutes which is great and i think that the free ice cream is phenomenal but what if all restaurants could get on this bandwagon you put your phone up you get free dessert yeah we're part of the phone revolution and and i'm which i'm excited about for our generation like we are really understanding the harm of the phone and we're like let's put them up there's that restaurant here in austin it's not a restaurant it's like it's got a club type vibe that we went to for valentine's day yeah and they take your phone when you walk in and i love it because everybody in there is present you're looking at other people you're talking to each other like it is such a cool thing and we need to get away from the phones yes they're like a body part these days so i'm just so for this um we've made phones such a part of everything that i think it's it's really really really good to get rid of them more in a restaurant doing that's a genius idea um okay do you want to do so for coke with peanuts we need the coke with peanuts yeah i know which i'd love to do uh i think we're good all right well happy monday everyone and i thank you so much for listening and alex you are a rock star you're a champ you're the best just so we're Claire Harrison's on my last nerve.

This week on Two Parents & A Podcast, we’re coming off Easter weekend (still in our pastels!) and Harrison is officially petitioning for no work on Easter Mondays (too much Aperol!) Which got us thinking... when did Easter become Christmas in spring?! That turns into a bigger conversation about gifts, toys, and the very real question of whether your kid can actually have TOO MANY (especially once you find the one toy they’ll play with for 30+ mins and suddenly everything else in the room starts feeling unnecessary).
We also get into postpartum prep for baby #2, and how buying all of that stuff again brought back a LOT of memories from the first time around (some of which I think I had conveniently blocked out). We talk through what we actually need this time, what we’re doing differently with baby #2, and why second-time prep feels way less chaotic.
Then we get into the toddler phase we’re very much in right now: teaching street safety without fully terrifying yourself (and the toddler!!!), whether “gentle parenting” got a bad rap, and what a kid under 2 can actually understand when you’re trying to keep them safe.
Plus, a little reality TV break (we see the comments are mixed - skip this section if you hate it, comment what we should watch next if you love it) , audiobooks vs. reading (pt. 2983482), the commenter who may have finally solved Harrison’s cough, and two fun things we DMed eachother: Japan Airlines’ baby icon and the Chick-fil-A family phone challenge.
LOVE YOU GUYS!
