In short

The episode mixes parenting anecdotes with pop culture and current events. Topic highlights: toddlers’ fear of thunderstorms (at age ~2, kids may not understand monsters or that lightning can’t “attack” them), the 2026 World Cup hype (Europeans/Americans not knowing basics like players/mascot), restaurant “non-alc” beer confusion, and Elon Musk becoming a “trillionaire” after SpaceX’s IPO.

Guests

none. The hosts discuss as a duo (two parents) and reference friends/family/neighbors, but no named guest speakers appear.

Key claims

Plan B delays ovulation after unprotected sex and is widely available without ID/prescription; Europeans expect taxes included in the displayed price (VAT) while the U.S. adds sales tax later; non-alcoholic beer is often re-clarified by servers even when it’s already menu-labeled; SpaceX’s IPO made Musk’s stake easier to value, so “trillionaire” is largely paper wealth; high-multiple stocks can swing wildly, so headlines about “losing” money may be misleading.

Notable examples

shushing/hushing a hysterical toddler during lightning; TikToks joking “we didn’t know the U.S. was in the World Cup” after a 4-1 win over Paraguay; Rod Stewart canceling a show due to laryngitis but attending a group-stage match; Taylor Swift wedding speculation at Madison Square Garden; an Amsterdam story where “Amstel Malt” was mistakenly treated as non-alcoholic.

0:00Plan B is a backup birth control option that's there for you when things don't go according to plan. It specifically works after unprotected sex and before pregnancy occurs by temporarily delaying ovulation. Plan B is available nationwide at all major retailers and through delivery apps like DoorDash. No ID, prescription, or age requirement. It's the number one OBGYN recommended brand of emergency contraception, and it won't impact your future fertility. That's Freedom the B. Use as directed. The lightning woke up over last night. The rain and the lightning and the thunder. I guess the Thunderbrook grab.

0:37Yeah. But I read at, okay, what is it? At age two, I'm going to mess this up. Something about at age two, though, something hasn't caught up in their brain, so monsters become real, but there's no way for them to understand that they're not real. So, like, fear is a big part. Like, she thinks the lightning can attack her right now. She doesn't understand she's in a house. But that was very clear from last night. Yeah, it was. Because when I went in, so I guess you went in and gave her the, to try to give her the Patsy to calm her. And I looked at the Nana and there was no, she was, what's the, like she was hysteric.

1:17Yeah, she was scared. And she's never like that. So I went in there and I sat with her on the chair and she was like pointing. And she was like, she was just so scared. At the lightning? I couldn't tell at what. At what? She wasn't like the word she was using weren't words she normally uses. And so we just hushed, hushed her to calm down and then brought her into our bed. You didn't hush her, you shh her. Shh her. Hush, I think, has a connotation of, I told you to stop talking. Like, I think shh has a negative connotation. Except for with a kid. Oh. Shushing, like I shh the kid. No, hush is nice.

1:55Shush is mean. Really? Yeah. Look at that. Ficker of the week. It's usually not, Jules and I are not. Old organic bicker. I think that... I think we should start with our bicker off the top. It's nice. Hush to me is like, oh, hush. Hush, little baby. Don't you cry. Boom, winner. Yeah, that's a positive thing. That's true. And then shush, little baby. That would be mean. That's true. Okay, I digress. I'm going to pull a Harrison right now. The only thing we shush is Ginny. Oh. It was a joke. We never shush Ginny. I do shush Ginny. Ginny, shush. She doesn't know what that means, though. I know. she i've never said this on the podcast but i lived in a building when i first got her where they called you to let you know that someone was coming upstairs so whenever i got a phone call not a facetime a phone call she knew that meant that there was visitors coming and it was time to get excited that's like four years ago and she's never moved past that oh if i get a facetime no she doesn't bark no peeps given if i get a phone call she's insane but that's why she's going crazy it's like clinically insane that she does that that's so cute though she's conditioned she's never moved past that that jules might be a very understanding dog mom very understanding of that um okay you guys ready to begin all right welcome back to another episode of two parents in a podcast you guys i'm so excited does anybody know why three episodes and a substack it's a big week it's a big week i did a lot of substack research this week i did some substack mingling with my content creator friends oh fun to um investigate what i think so what i've realized is my hair i swam in a real life pool and this is the like i didn't wash it afterwards so it's kind of like interesting to me typically i would wash it immediately, but I'm just letting her rip, because it's summertime and I'm a laid back mom, Jules.

3:54I don't have the iPad. Oh no. Wow. How about that? Hold on one moment. Okay, sorry guys. I didn't even realize. Whoa. Oh, it's on the ads. Okay, okay, okay. Sorry guys. Well, I can assume I know what you want to talk to off the top. Tell them to subscribe please, with a please. After you. Okay, so if you're listening, and now they're going to three episodes a week, so Monday, Wednesday, Friday. I mean, this is so exciting. Subscribe to the pod and like the episode and send it to a friend. And what question do you have for them? Okay, so I was thinking a lot about questions. I have a great question.

4:39Okay, what is it? Okay, ties into our tweet of the week. Okay. What do you think blows the European mind the most when they come and they visit America? Because that's a big thing going on on Twitter right now is all these Americans are here for the World Cup. And they're like going to a bunch of the U.S. staples and their minds are just being blown. So I would say like the two winners are Waffle House and Buc-ee's. like the European mind sorry three winners like what the European mind is just loving Bucky's Waffle House and Ranch Ranch is a really good one okay unlimited refills no I feel like unlimited refills are like that's a tier two for me oh I saw a guy experiencing it and he was just so excited oh so you're on this you're on this that's the only one I saw okay then I was thinking about do they have you know buffets in Europe?

5:42I assume so. Yeah, I assume so. All-you-can-eat buffets? We've got to pull this. I feel like I've been to a breakfast buffet. I feel like in hotels, they have open breakfast. Because I think in all-you-can-eat, we had one in Oklahoma, I think it was sushi. But it's all-you-can-eat. You can just keep going back up there and getting more for the price. We would do all-you-can-eat sushi in high school, and the sushi in Vancouver is as good as it gets, we would eat. It's kind of one of those stories that isn't a good story, but it means so much to us. Just like thinking of me and these eight ravenous high school boys going to, it's not Sushi Isuda.

6:27That's the place in Manhattan. Sushi, let me tell you, all you can eat sushi in Oklahoma is not quite the same experience. I would love to do all you can eat sushi with you in Vancouver at one of our high school spots just so you'll be able to experience it. I would love nothing more. And I think we should take Bubber. Yeah. Bubber hasn't really ever had a sushi roll. Because I think they can have raw fish before two. Oh, you're right. Which is very... We could get her a cooked one, though. I think Bubber would really... Oh, I took Bubber on a sushi date and I got her a cucumber roll and an avocado roll.

6:58Did she like it? Yeah, she loved it. Oh, great. They do have buffets in Europe. They do. Mostly sushi and brunch. Okay. So that would not blow their mind. And tapas. The one thing the European is very upset with is that sales tax here is not on the list price, which I did not realize that in Europe, the price shown includes the tax. VAT? Isn't it the VAT? Whatever the taxes are. I don't know. I know what you're talking about. I actually know what you're talking about. The point being, the price that you see in Europe is the price you pay. Versus here, you get all the add-ons. Europeans, they're not happy with that.

7:43Well, I agree with that. So the question to the audience is... What do you think is blowing the Europeans' mind the most, being here? That's your question to the audience. Or on the other side, when you go to Europe, what blows your mind the most? About what they have in Europe and not here. And then we can talk about those next episode. Okay. There'll be some great ones. I think that's actually a really good question. I can't think of anything vice versa. I mean, having to pay for your drink every time over there. We experience the inverse. You know, you go to a restaurant and you order a Diet Coke and then you keep getting Diet Cokes.

8:16They bring you cans of Coke in Europe, though. And they charge you each time. Yes. This is a big thing. This is an Austin thing. Austin brings a lot of... Cans. A lot of cans and a lot of bottles. I agree with that. And do they charge us? Yes. Yes. Like unlimited sodas are not a thing in Austin. So a rare knock on Austin that I will have. Very rare. Because otherwise this is. Because you feel like you're kind of being nickel and dimed when that happens. I feel like maybe we've talked about this before, but like in Ohio, when you're at a bar and you get a Diet Coke, it comes from the fountain, you don't pay for it.

8:56it's free because like when you get a jack and coke you just pay for the shot of jack so you can get a shot of jack or a jack and coke for the same price love to know this jules and so like you just when i was going out having my six diet cokes like that's just free to me but then you go to new york or austin that's just it's not a free night anymore new york they you know charge you 80 bucks for that i know well honestly eight but i was mooching off my friends and i didn't realize it because everyone would just tack on a diet coke to their round and like i was just not paying anyone back because i thought it was free right yeah well much far cheaper still yeah but yeah not free so i hate when i lose my train of thought do you want to get to the party oh people don't know no i want to get to on the other side of this hold on what are we going to discuss today let's do that um there is just it's like funny dynamic like we were with people all day yesterday okay okay like right until uh bedtime right until bedtime and then like we kind of got our things in order and when i got upstairs you were asleep so like i haven't talked to you in like 36 hours we had on saturday we were people all day so i feel like sometimes this is like the Monday catch-up that you and I have.

10:21Well, we had these sweet neighbors. Obviously, we talk when we're there. I don't want to take it out of context. But we haven't had a one-on-one chat. Now we have a one-on-one chat. Well, and we also are going to talk about taking kids to parties and things like that. So we went over yesterday to a new neighbor that we have never really hung out with. This sweet couple invited us and Winnie's family over to swim. They are so sweet. they don't have any grandkids yet and like when i tell you they they just they had cut up the watermelon like they'd sliced the watermelon in a way that was easy for like little kids to grab and they had homemade hummus and they had it was so sweet and then so we go over there to swim we were there for two hours and then the dad says why don't i go to the store and get burgers so then he went and got burgers and we all sat around the table and had hamburgers and he made mini burgers for the girls it was a lovely day and so then we were over there all the way up until bedtime impromptu neighborhood hang yeah so that was fun and and so but hold on what i would like to discuss before this is do you understand is anybody on the side of tiktok that doesn't know that the usa is in the world cup that's one of the funnier videos that i've seen in a long time Did you watch it?

11:41It was very good. It's so funny. We've got to put it up. I'll play it. Okay. The comment section is what's even more funny. Basically, it's a video of a lady, and she's just like, look, when did we get into the World Cup? Like, who's on the team? When did we get a team? Who's the mascot? I just saw a TikTok from a British man. Well, we'll just put the video up. Saying that America has no chance of winning the World Cup, and I'm trying to figure out when do we get in the World Cup? Have we always been in the World Cup? Who on our soccer team?

12:22What's our record?

12:28What's our team name? Who is our mascot? Who was going to tell us? where it's so funny to me is like this country idolizes athletes and we're out for dinner with another couple friday night and we were talking about the world cup and she looked at him and was like who's on the team like name one player on the team and he couldn't name a player he's like the guy he's like the guy the guy like number 10 like you know him and we were all like no and we have to go on Google and be like, oh, like Pulisic or something. I know that name. Pulisic. What's his first name? Puchichi. We're just like not. We haven't like, we got to get these guys a little more awareness.

13:15Christian Pulisic? I do know his first name. How do you pronounce Brady? Tom Brady. Pretty easy. And can you pick him out of a line of whether you like football or not? Pretty easy. That's the best comment on here is who's our quarterback. Okay, wait. So then the best one, though, is the guy talking about, so this is the comment. I thought we were just having company over, oh, my gosh. That was 400 ,000 likes. Like, we knew we were hosting. Everyone knew we were hosting the World Cup, but we didn't know we were in it. So everyone was like, I just thought we were having people over. Yeah. But the beauty of this is the U.S.

13:49smashed Paraguay. Like, you don't really win 4-1 in soccer. Are they only letting us play because the party's at our house? Yes. Isn't that true? That is true. Yeah, that's true. The U.S. didn't qualify for the last World Cup. Who the coach? And then what's going on with, like, what side of TikTok I'm on is, like, that Canada is just, like, does Canada remember that they're also hosting the World Cup? Have you seen that? No, but this is very unsurprising to me, so please tell me more. Well, that's all I know. I just saw a couple of TikToks that was like, Canada's not doing any of the marketing that U.S.

14:25is doing that they just put up their first post the other day. Canada. Oh, come on. Of course, Canada. Come on. The marketing as a whole is... No. Ticket prices are collapsing. U.S. soccer's in here. Hotel prices are... and Airbnb prices have collapsed. Like this isn't like I hope that we had a really good opening weekend Like I think 1.2 billion people watched the opening game globally, which is more than I think like Five times more than the Super Bowl. We have to host and play But then other people are commenting it's very odd to us that you're hosting it Like people are also like why are you hosting it but like you know Katara hosted the last one.

15:19So this girl, Shannon, she says, it's very odd to the world that you're hosting it. This girl, Beth, responds, it's odd to us too. We got enough shit going on.

15:31I thought this was one big thing like the Super Bowl. I didn't know you guys were going to be here for weeks. I want to shut down a thing. Okay. Because I saw it in there, and I thought it was ridiculous. I guess Rod Stewart's under heat because he canceled a concert. Yes. To go to the World Cup game. Rod Stewart canceled a tour. Canceled a show. A show. A show because he has laryngitis. Correct. And then went to the World Cup game. I think Harrison has a very good take on this that I agree with. This is a veteran of the game, okay? This guy, he knows. You're not canceling. so i guess people are saying that he canceled it to go to the game correct there is not a chance okay for a magnitude of reasons he's he's been in this long enough to know that if you're going to cancel something and go to public appearance go do a public appearance like people are going to see it number one and number two importantly you're not going to cancel a show for the opener for like up the qualifying games of the world cup for the group stage of the world cup like if this was the world cup final i could maybe start to entertain it this is the group stage against paraguay paraguay paraguay paraguay paraguay paraguay paraguay i'm not canceling rod stewart but like what if you canceled something and then you went somewhere else and your friends saw like i have to stay at home like i don't know that's the question do you have to stay at home not a chance live okay own it tweet it instagram it a lot of times though if i do cancel something I do stay home because I'm like, I can't go somewhere else.

17:10I actually don't know why. And I understand, I do understand like he couldn't sing. That was the issue, why he needed to cancel with the laryngitis. But you can go sit and watch a sports match. Yeah, and just be mindful. Like don't get caught on camera screaming and cheering. Like when they scored, give like good firm fist bumps, no yelling. You're good. Okay. I just wondered what your guys' take on this. Yeah, I think that it's ridiculous that he would go under heat, especially for a group stage match. Because you're just not going to do that. It doesn't matter enough. I'm sure he barely went.

17:47Yeah, I think that it's okay that he went. I do hope that he's not yelling. Okay, so Taylor Swift, for example, when she was getting inducted into, what was that, the Songwriters Hall of Fame or something? Songwriters Hall of Fame. Her voice was gone, and she was like, sorry, I've been at the Knicks game, obviously. and then tonight at the at the Songwriters Hall of Fame she was like I've been yelling for the people that were performing and like her voice was a little raspy so I do think it's a very real thing where these performers do have to like watch when they like my voice is a little gone today and that was just from the weekend of talking so I think it's a real thing for Rod to have laryngitis and then not go to the game and not yell but I think he'll do that I saw Tom Hanks was there I don't know Good star-studded appearances.

18:35Who were they? I know. Very smart move of doing that in L.A. Who were the stars that were studded? All the Knicks bandwagon fans. They just shipped them all to the U.S. and they just put them right in the U.S. celebrity row. No, but where the Knicks did it right is they're always – have you seen these posts that people will do? It's either ESPN or the Knicks account themselves. They literally label who's there. I love it. What do you mean? They have Instagram posts dedicated to saying that's Kylie Jenner and that's her boyfriend, Timothy Chalamet. Next slide. That's Ben Stiller. Next slide. Adam Sandler.

19:12And they put arrows. Yeah, it's really like. I like seeing it. You understand what gets the people's attention and that is the world we live in. But where was the soccer equivalent to that? Like that didn't get on my radar. Who went? Paris Hilton. Would have loved to have known that. She wore a jersey. The Beckhams. How many Beckhams? A lot of Beckhams. But not our guy. I'm sure. No. Well, he's not our guy. He's not our guy. We don't have a guy. We don't have a Beckham guy. We have no ties to that. Well, David, while they were here, his star was released on the Walk of Fame. Wow. Which was cute.

19:54And then a lot of people were saying, I didn't know non-actors could be on the, they could get stars. And they can. and the geobros do yeah I went to it they 100 % should have a star yeah and do they have individual stars or do they have one collective star they each got their own star and you went to the star unveiling yes and how was that it was a really cool experience and tell us about it because I I don't know anybody that's been to a star unveiling, so please do elaborate.

20:29Well, they block off the area. Okay. And then they – I don't really know what to say here. Like you go and you sit and people go up and they make some speeches. And then the person getting recognized makes the speech. And then they put their hands in and sign. and then... Sign what? Like you mark your area, your star. And then I didn't look at what there was exactly to look like, but I saw them kneeling over it. And then we went and they hosted an event after. For the star attendees? Like a celebration thing. I think that's really cool. It was a really nice event. From what I can tell, they keep them intimate.

21:16Yeah, it was a small event. Did Taylor Swift recently get one? Miley Cyrus. That's who it was. Thank you. Yeah, I saw her mom. Now, she's not talking to her dad right now? Undetermined. Who? Miley. Miley. And Billy Ray. Because he wasn't there. Yeah, but he was in the documentary, and they were in the Hannah Montana special, and they were mixing. Should I watch this Hannah Montana special? No. I'm not going to watch it either. No. I was going to talk about, I did a deep dive on the off-campus, on all of them. As we build on this reality TV theme, do you know what the butterfly effect is? No. Okay. Do you guys know what the butterfly effect is? Yes. Have you seen the Ashton Kutcher movie? No. That was one of my favorite movies growing up. It's like a dark and twisted movie. Is it called Butterfly Effect? Yeah. I love Ashton Kutcher. Yeah. Have I told you the story about him walking behind me? No. Okay, so. Great story.

25:34Moving on. No, I'm kidding. It was a joke. Please, I want to hear it. Me and Caroline, we were at a, we were at a, maybe like a, we were at some basketball game in LA. We were walking out of the tunnel and we were like, oh my God, everyone's looking at us. and we were like, so weird, I wonder why they're looking at us. And then we turned around and Ashton Kutcher was right behind us. Tall and handsome in real life. Very under the radar lately, but he really had his moments. Yeah, no, he definitely feels like he's been off the radar. Yeah, he's a venture fund, though, so I feel like I hear his name come up through that.

26:18Well, okay, so what's your point about the butterfly effect? Okay, I was like, yeah, I was wondering how the song came out. So the butterfly effect essentially is like if you turn left and you are speeding and you get stopped by the policeman versus if you. Turned right, there would be no sleep policeman. Turned right, there's no policeman. And instead there's a, you know, a beautiful woman that you meet walking the street and you stop, get her number and fall happily ever in love. Okay. So here's the butterfly effect. Of Summer House. Okay. Oh. Season 10. Jessie goes to Wes. And says hey Wes.

27:01I have a thing for Sierra. Wes draws a line in the sand. And says no. At that point. In the summer. She is very clearly trying to get over him. And it feels like Sierra is kind of over Wes. If Wes says yes. I think Jessie and Sierra have a real shot. Okay? Okay. So now fast forward, end of summer, Jesse and Sarah in a very happy relationship. Kyle and Amanda have their relationship. It's come to an end. Wes, their supportive guy. Well, I don't think that's a butterfly effect, but. It is. It is a butterfly effect. if Wes says yes to Jesse and supports the relationship and then Sierra is into it then we're not here we're not here yeah well totally and Jesse he made a really stupid comment about just like wanting to kiss her which was like a dumb comment but I do believe it isn't what he meant I believe he liked her and he was trying to say it in a joking way I I, um, so.

28:21Wes shut down Jesse and Sierra. I know. If Wes and Sierra happens, I don't think anyone is mad that, that Amanda, I don't think anyone's mad about the Amanda West dynamic because of Kyle, because of Kyle's actions over the past couple of years. Okay. You've lost me a bit, but here's my question to you now. If let's say Jesse and Sierra went on a date right now in this moment, I are like today in today's climate, what would happen? No one would care. yeah I don't think anyone would care I just don't think they would I think people would be excited about that yeah yeah I agree with that I meant no one would care in a bad way yeah me as well oh for sure but here's where I have to give here's where it's so interesting on the West thing because this is what I was trying to say last time Jesse sat down West and asked him so West knows that's what you're supposed to do so West didn't go sit down Kyle and ask him.

29:20Hold on. There's another thing. There's another big thing. West said no. That someone talked about. It may have been you who talked about it. What? Hopefully we didn't talk about it on the air and I'm just forgetting. Apparently there's a extended version of the Bravo. Yes. We talked about it on the air. We talked about it on the air. Yeah. Okay. Talk about it though. Okay. So Jesse talked about how he was hurt because he had a friend go and hook up with an ex. Yes. So not only... And West knew that. Did West know that this is something that really mattered to Jesse, but Jesse acted the way you would expect any friend to.

30:02No, but here's my number one thing. Yeah. If West didn't know this was bad or actually thought... He's a direct parallel of the situation with Jesse, who was the equivalent of Kyle asking him about Sierra who is not the equivalent of Amanda and Kyle's seriousness of a relationship because they were married okay if West actually didn't think what he was doing right now was a big deal to Jesse he'd be like yeah of course of course you can it's not a big deal if you're broken up you're broken up yeah yeah it is just like amazing like had then he turned around and did it to somebody that was married but the point here that I'm trying to make is Wes thought his relationship with Sierra was so serious that he didn't want his friend even entertaining the thought of them getting together.

30:52Right. And if he was a good guy and was respectful of like that, and to say it wasn't even, you know, I forgot how he described it, but like it was a casual thing and he wasn't territorial, then he would have given them the opportunity to potentially have a relationship. Totally. No one would have cared if he'd gotten with Amanda. Do we know how many people watched the reunion? No. I did see that it had all-time high ratings for the show. Oh, it did? Did you like that butterfly effect thing there, Jules? I love the butterfly effect, so yes. Do you think that's a good one? Yeah. Alex didn't seem to like it.

31:34I liked it. I didn't think that I would call that the butterfly effect. I liked it. Of course I liked it. How is it not a butterfly effect? Well, I just had learned about it now. One decision. If he said no, if he said yes, that could have changed everything. Yep. Part one had three point. Actually, this is lower than I would think. 3.1 million viewers. Part two, 2.6 million viewers. Part three, no details available to me. I thought that those numbers would be like 20 million. Like, I feel like my algorithm, like people that I know and that I follow were really watching it. But I think a lot of people just like see it via social, see it via Twitter.

Read the full transcript

32:12Yeah, they don't need to watch it. They see a lot of clips. But they're up on it. Like they know what's going on. Yeah, I never tuned in on Bravo. But you're up to date. Yeah. Okay. I'm going to pivot us away from the pop culture time.

32:30So let's discuss waiters blowing up your non-alc. What happened here? This has been driving me crazy, and it happens at every restaurant. When I go and I order non-alcoholic beer, oftentimes I'm not trying to draw attention to the fact I'm not drinking. I'm not trying to hide it. I'm just not trying to draw attention to it. And so, because I don't want what I'm doing to affect the people at the table, I also don't want to talk about it. Because, like, often I don't have a good reason as to why I'm not drinking. I just don't want to drink. and I don't want to potentially be hungover the next day.

33:07Okay. And every time I order a beer, a non-alcoholic, they clarify it's non-alcoholic. The non-alcoholic one? Yeah. I'll be like, can I get the best steak holsch? And they're like, oh yeah, the non-alcoholic one? I'm like, yeah, and I get what they're doing. They don't want to bring the beer and then maybe be surprised by non-alcoholic. It's clearly always marked on the menu. I understand what you're saying. I also understand exactly why they're clarifying it. And yes. And like one of the best examples of it like is with you. Like you love to say you don't like to drink by yourself. And so like when we go like we, you know, have a drink on a random Tuesday night.

33:44I want to be able to get that best day beer so that way it doesn't affect you. Right. Like if I want a glass of wine, I don't want it by myself. Yeah. And to me it's like it's kind of the same thing. But it feels like when I do get the non-alcoholic, then you'll potentially not get a drink. I won't. I'll just get a Diet Coke. And that's, yeah, I don't like that. Yeah, but it did happen. We did order. I was like, I'll have an Aperol spritz after he, no, I ordered first. I was like, I'll get an Aperol spritz because you were like, I'm going to get a beer. And then he ordered the best day colt. And the girl was like, the non-alc?

34:15And I was like, hmm. And you would not have noticed. I would have never noticed. And they're so good and I love them. Okay, solve could be, you could point on the menu so then they know. Nope, they do it again. Oh, that's a non-alc one. They really do do that. It drives me nuts. It drives me nuts. I know what I'm doing. Do I look like I'm a beer, like drink a lot of beer. Know what I'm doing. I know what I'm doing. Well, you could have drank too many beers that they, that now you, they want to clarify. I think it's a good thing that they clarify it. Because what if you were trying to, trying to have a night, okay?

34:51And you were the best day of Kulsh's and you've had five and you're like. Have I ever told this story about Ben and Alex visiting me in Amsterdam? No. And me loving my Amstel, like this Amstel light beer. So they came to visit me for the weekend. I was doing my exchange in Amsterdam. And I'd like just tried this beer a day or two before and they get there. And I'm actually going to research the beer really fast just so I can get the exact name of it. And you got to remember, this is like 2010.

35:30this is 2010 so non-alc isn't a thing at that point at all and so they get there my guys i just tried this amazing new beer so am still isn't they have a standard beer but they had something called am still malt and it kind of had this like like lightish vanilla flavor and i just had it and i loved it i'm like you guys got to try this new beer i picked up a whole bunch of them picked up a 24 pack of am still malt and um first night out like we smashed the whole case and we're coming and home and all of us are looking around like guys like we feel so sober and we chalked it up we like had a conversation then night bear man like we're just like we're got we've gotten so good at drinking beers that like we don't even we don't even get drunk and then the next morning we go for breakfast and uh we're at this like little cute little cafe on the river and I like open the menu and I see that like Amstel malt is on the non-alc section.

36:32And like I told them and I probably got chirped for that for like, I don't know, years. Years, I would imagine. That's so funny. Yeah. Just crushing the non-alc. I was an original non-alc guy. That's funny. But like calling it Amstel malt, very misleading. Yeah, confusing. I thought malt would be like heavier. Right. Do you drink non-alc beers? No. Oh, if I was at a brewery. Yeah. I would. I think they're quite tasty. They are good, but I wouldn't do it like just at a – I would get a die cone. I think we're at polar ends of the spectrum. I think non-alc beers are like – when we look at the non-alc space as good as – like so close to the standard offering versus non-alk cocktails I think are ridiculous.

37:27And they're just expensive. They're expensive and they're just kind of these like sugar bombs and they just kind of taste like juice versus, so like I'm, I love the non-alk beers. I hate the non-alk cocktails. Do non-alk beers have like any alcohol in them? There's no alcohol. The non-alcoholic wine, this is the tricky thing, it still has alcohol. It's regular wine and then it's de-alcoholized I don't know what the right word is and so there's still like trace amounts of alcohol in the in the non-alcoholic wine which is the one thing I would probably drink like I kind of miss like red wine and Aperol spritzes non-alcoholic wine makes a lot of sense to me but to my understanding we should actually just pull this up really quick because is the alcohol content is so low that it's seemingly like a net it's um it's similar to what you'd find in like kombucha yeah and things like kombucha or yeah this just came up the other day with a friend but yeah similar to what's found in nature like a ripe banana or orange juice yeah i was gonna say orange juice but i didn't want to get it wrong huh did not know that so it truly like is not out like you if you drink um you know 10 or 12 of them and you blow on the alcohol thing like you won't show up okay did I know this is my understanding what really quickly can we we're gonna do kids eventually but I would like to just pop to Elon becoming a trillionaire really quickly okay we want to talk about this I don't understand it is he on a trillionaire yeah he became a trillionaire like over over the weekend maybe yeah big weekend for Elon what happened SpaceX yeah went public on Friday okay what is I mean I know what that means but what were the numbers so and how much of it did he own and then how much of it did it go into his pocket it went public like a 1.75 trillion valuation and then trade it up quite a bit and so it ended the day north of two trillion Wow so six the most valuable company in the world and And today I think it's up another 10%.

39:39What are the top five?

39:43If we were to guess. NVIDIA, Amazon. Apple? Apple.

39:53Two more. Oh, oh. Facebook. No. That was your first incorrect. So. Google. Yes, Alphabet. One more. industry competitor of apple microsoft microsoft oh yeah i should have got that and then spacex is it on there listed as spacex spcx is the ticker spcx what questions would be interesting to address on this the only thing i want to understand yeah is when your company ipos Yeah. Which is an initial public offering. Yeah. Right? So people are then allowed to buy up the stock. Yeah. Why does he become a trillionaire? Okay. So it's actually a really good question. In like he was a trillionaire beforehand.

40:53hand the reality is as of friday the stock became public which meant you or i or jules or p or anyone with a with a trading account could go and buy and sell the shares right and so it became very clear and easy to identify the value of his shares on a day-to-day basis okay in the days previous the company was still private. And so understanding what the true market value of his shares were was harder. He doesn't have a trillion. He doesn't have more money in his pocket. He's just worth more. But it's... No, it's just easier to now... You can now track it more easily. Nobody gave Elon a check.

41:41He was, yeah. He was a trillionaire on Thursday. He didn't have a giant check handed to him. But now it's much... We understand his worth. You can see it. In an easier way. How much of the company does he own? Oh, I kind of think it's north of 50%. He owns a ton of it. And then now who owns the rest of it? It's like whoever bought it. Or was there other investors? His brother owns... No. So the largest... I don't even... He owns 42 % to 46%. Okay. So who owns the rest of it? I mean, a whole bunch of other institutional investors. Like Alphabet, Valor Equity Partners. Yeah, so Valor is a fund that people are less familiar with.

42:33What's his name again? Ignacio? Can you Google if you owned 1 % of SpaceX what you were worth? Can we get that one-to-one? Yeah, it's just 1 % times$2 trillion. How much is that? Do you want to ask if we own any SpaceX? What? Do you want to ask if we own any SpaceX? Do we own any SpaceX? Yeah. How much? We're invested in a fund that bought SpaceX private. Great. So we're not, and then we bought, we tried to buy some on the IPO, but we got like a tiny, tiny, tiny, tiny, tiny allocation. Because I just did it through Robinhood. Okay. And there was so much demand for it. If you own 1 % of SpaceX, your stake is between$17.5 billion and$22 billion.

43:23So Valor, I think, owns 7%. Oh, wow. Yeah. That's like the conversation going on on the internet. It's just like we can't possibly comprehend what a trillion dollars even is. Trillion sounds close to a billion, but it's just nowhere close to a billion. And so like he, if you were to take like the, so the number two most wealthy person in the world, I think is around$300 billion. And then he got Elon. And so like. We are closer in wealth to that person than he is to Elon. And that's like. That's crazy. Yeah. To be clear, on an absolute dollar basis, not on a percent basis. And these things like they do swing drastically.

44:10and I think what's important to note, especially with SpaceX, is there's a lot of questions around how is this thing worth so much. Well, how? There's a massive premium that investors are paying to be backing Elon and the opportunity in space. Because when you look at the financial metrics, it trades significantly more expensive than, especially like the 10 other biggest companies in the world. What was Elon doing like 10 years ago? Like wasn't he just doing - But SpaceX started like 20 years ago. Well, of course, I know. And this is the classic. It happened overnight. And yet you didn't see that.

44:52I've been building it forever. But 10 years ago, what was he first known for? Tesla? eBay. Sorry, he was part of the PayPal mafia. Okay. Yeah. Because I remember he just sort of came on people's radars. People didn't really know much about him. I think it was Tesla. No, no, no. Yeah, so he was part of the PayPal mafia. That was not on my radar. So there's a group of these Silicon Valley guys, him, Keith Rabois, David Sachs, and I'm sure I'm blanking on a couple others. They start PayPal, then leave, and all go on to do a bunch of value-creating things in the ecosystem. So, yes, his next thing, big thing was Tesla.

45:37But he's had his hand in the pot of a lot of different stuff. So, like, he was big in solar. I believe that company was SolarCity. He had SpaceX. And, you know, these things took a really long time. But even this is like, you know, it's very much, I think that what you're going to see in the headlines over the next 6, 12, 18, 24 months is like, you know, you're going to see Elon Musk no longer a trillionaire. because I assume the stock is going to be very volatile because it's trading at such a high multiple. It trades at north of 100 times sales versus most of those other 10 companies trade at, call it, 10 times sales.

46:20I think the highest multiple for the other top 10 largest companies in the world is like 30 times sales, So three times more expensive than that. And like those other 10 companies, all of them are, to my understanding, they generate earnings. They generate EBITDA, even if it's like a small amount versus SpaceX still loses a lot of money. So I think that you'll see a lot of volatility as people, you know, they'll get good data and the stock will rip. They'll, I assume, get bad data and people will be like, oh, it's not worth this much. you've lost me a bit but i'm but i think that you know largely i understand the most interesting thing that you just said to me was in the coming weeks or months we will see elon like these headlines like oh he lost all the money but it's like it's not he didn't do that yeah i think this if you look at tesla stock they didn't deduct the money you know trades really high and trades really low um because tesla's also has a had a very high multiple um and so high multiple stocks generally have more volatility to them.

47:26Okay. Okay, well, so Elon is a trillionaire, but it's like not in his bank account. Well, that's the other funny thing about it is like if he were to sell all the shares, the stocks would trade materially lower. So he has to like hold on to them. Yeah, but that's all. That's pretty much most people. Okay. Like you're a trillionaire on paper. Yeah, okay. You've lost me a bit, but yeah. Okay. I think this happened to Kim K or Kylie, if that helps. It does. It did with a billionaire status, I believe. Yes, but I think hers was marked towards the private valuation, which it's a lot harder to have high confidence.

48:13Okay, never mind. But maybe if her company was bought. Stock school. This is stock school. Someone did ask in the comments. I think I put it in there for you guys to talk more about finance. 50:07Yeah. that started to happen to me in this conversation I really was understanding I would be curious about the listener are you still with us or did we lose you did we lose you we've maybe lost my interest we're like at the same point as the comment let's go read some world cup comments no I have another comment that I want to read so okay hold on what do we think about Taylor Swift getting married at Madison Square Garden I don't know I wanted to ask you guys if you think it's real I guess I think it's real. And I think that she's got this phenomenal planner who presented to her what this could look like.

50:46I think it's iconic in the sense that nobody's done it. And I think the planner was like, this could be really cool. Here's my ideas for it. And I think it will be awesome. My question is, who performs at Taylor Swift's wedding? Who does Taylor Swift get to perform? A band? No. I think you have a Gracie Abrams appearance. no really love Gracie Abrams but no don't you think Gracie's also going to the wedding yeah probably I think it's somebody like earth wind and fire I think it's gonna be old old old school musicians Dolly Parton someone that she just loves I take that back I think it's gonna be very like I think Dolly Parton is a great guest do you think the guests just like rotate it's like karaoke but with all these famous guests that's the best idea I've ever heard yes because she got up on that stage at Nashville just popped up there.

51:36Yeah. Play a little. Yeah. I think that there will be some really iconic people and also some country. No, I think she's going to go. I think that the more old school, like classic icons will do it. I do too. I wouldn't be surprised if Springsteen, Bon Jovi, that type of guys. And do you think this MSG thing is like a decoy? Or do you think nothing of it? You think it's actually at MSG? It's a very good venue. Is it? What? If you drape the whole thing and, like, transform it, a lot of space. I just never thought of such a thing. Very secure. I just, like, don't think you can be, like, getting married at, like, Casa Cipriani.

52:18She would be able to fully hide from the press if in there. I don't know. I thought she was going to get married in Rhode Island. That was too obvious. That's the Friday night dinner. What? You think it's just going to be a one-night event? No, of course not, but it's going to be in another state. Okay. Oh, in Rhode Island. I thought it was going to be in Rhode Island. Doesn't she have Long Island? She went to a - A house? No. She went to a wedding once in Long Island. Jack Antoinette. Jules is on the wedding tracker. The house is in Rhode Island. I think it's confirmed in New York. No, it's like this MSG rumor just came about this past week.

52:58That's like my whole FYP, and people think it's a decoy. okay it must be so nice to get to a point where like you you have yeah no i actually the point is it's not so nice for her that's why she would have to potentially do a decoy i i don't know where the wedding is jewels guess what i cannot wait to see it okay i say never mind i cannot wait to see where the wedding is i cannot wait to see the dress are they bridesmaids are they not yeah what do you think those photos sell for over wedding yeah i think there's not going to be photos you don't think they take everyone's phones and then they have one photographer and then that photographer will sell five or ten approved photos to a magazine i don't know i'm really thrown off by this whole msg thing it's making it way more of a spectacle than i thought it was going to be I thought it was going to be a small private intimate wedding in Rhode Island.

54:00No cameras. We'd never see a thing. My understanding is it's not going to be a small intimate wedding. He doesn't give me small intimate wedding vibes. I don't know. I don't know.

54:15Do you think that there is a 100 % acceptance rate on their invites that went out? Yes. No. What would you not move to go?

54:28okay well let's bring it back what if it was what if it was what if it was my birthday didn't we have some birthday question on here it was like for a guy's trip okay yeah uh your birthday party would be in new york and it'd be very fun so here's how you don't go is if you're pregnant as if someone's pregnant like having the baby you would literally have to be birthing it because if you're within your one month window i don't know you drive well you can't even drive You take your doctor. You take your doctor with you. I'm sure that someone will not be able to go. Do you want to know the only thing that could get me to question going?

55:04Yeah. If it was on September 17th or April 18th. those are our children's birthdays I know. And the kids weren't invited. Yeah. And I still think. Do you think Taylor's having a no kid wedding? Yes. And even if she wasn't having a no kid wedding, their birthday can't be spent there. So I do think that I would not go for that. Yeah. Well, on the topic of kids, do you know one piece of advice that I got around parenting that I think has proved to be really true for toddlers. What? Give them two choices. Okay. How many times have I said that on here? Well, I'm saying it's advice that I found to be true.

55:55From Alex? You came up with that, Dr. Fugman? So my prediction is I think Alex is going to go back to school. Oh, boy. Yeah. okay yeah i see the excitement that you have around behavioral learning and child development and i think you're going to go back to school and and look at that serious moment we just had uh and and formalize your your interest look at jules laughing look at laughing away i I would love to go back to school. I just like, where would I go? And is it online? Am I going in person? What if you went to UT? Because I really wanted to go to UT so that way we could be big UT fans and it doesn't look like it's going to happen.

56:47What if you go to UT and then we can be a UT family as well? Isn't UT really hard to get into? I think that - Really hard? I think that you could get in. I just want to let you know about my academic past. I most likely cannot. I don't know what that's like though for like an adult going back to school that's what i mean undergrad is obviously like incredibly challenging i think master's programs just take your money yeah i think master's programs are a bit of a different story so here's the thing about me in college like i wish i went to college i wish i would have taken like a five gap year right five gaps because i would have taken school so much more seriously now at the time i was also like what am i like all the things i learned in college College, not so much, but high school, like, why did I have to do long division?

57:35It used to kick my butt. The long ones. I mean, I used to be like, I am never going to get this. And it's like, oh, another day without using long division. You know, Pythagorean theorem, like, ugh. Do you know what I'm saying? Yeah, I think that our education systems, I think there's some room for improvement in them, for sure. Yeah, what I would love is a whole course on taxes. I completely agree. And how those are going to work. And credit. And credit. And how if you buy something, you know, people used to say if you buy something for$5, you have to make$10. I never really understood that. And then taxes come into play and you do understand that.

58:22And the real world taught me that. And saving. And savings. those would all be really fun not fun to not take a class on saving in high school it's like it's pretty insane and then like a lot of people like principled savings a lot of people don't go to college basic principles of savings so you graduate high school then you go out into the real world and they're just like you were just learning long division and now you have to pay taxes gas prices how do those work yeah a class on budgeting which takes into account gas prices and groceries totally Really? Wait, ways to cut. But this is one of the, it's why I'm so open to homeschooling.

59:03Well, that's a whole other conversation. I don't know that I am, but we'll see. But all that to say, I would like to go back to school. Yes, that would be fun. But anyways, I did say that I had read, you know, two choices is a good idea. Yes. So who did you hear it from? Well, I feel like it's one of those things you hear about parenting all the time. Okay, so what two choices have you been given Bubz? Um, so I give her two choices of food in the morning. Okay. But, and that's been just so consistent and so easy. But like, I found myself in a, in an interesting dilemma on Saturday morning where like she was ready to go.

59:41She's pointing to, um, pointing outside and saying, go, go, go, go, go. And I go to put her in the stroller and she just like would not go in the stroller. and what's tough about is like we can't really just walk without the stroller anymore like we do need the stroller there because carrying hers the whole time is just get tough when and when you walk with her we're stopping for rocks yeah we i funny enough i used to kind of be able to walk with her um now we're going different directions and now we we can't okay so what i did is I had the stroller with her seat in it, and then we can swap out her seat with Rocky's bassinet.

1:00:25And so I was like, all right, Tate, we're going to the coffee shop. Do you want this seat or this seat? And she chose Rocky's bassinet. And so I just swapped out. I put Rocky's bassinet on the stroller, and she sat in Rocky's bassinet. And the whole thing was mitigated and moved on. and like she was refusing to get in the stroller. And you sent me a photo of her sitting in Rocky's bassinet, which is the flat one, and she had her snacks in there with her. Yeah, we can put up the photo. It's a pretty funny photo. So that's just how she wanted to go. Yeah, yeah. I think that's adorable. Yeah, I've never heard that.

1:00:59Go? Go. Go. Go. Go. That's definitely the tone. Yeah, go? Go. Okay, we will go. Last night she - Speaking of going. What? Will you go with me after this to do some housing stuff? No.

1:01:14we're just gonna like have an empty pool just okay all right i'll go with you i'll go i'll go but i would like to get a coffee i would love to get a coffee okay so we'll do that so i didn't mean like direct i meant this afternoon like we need to figure out we need to finalize the fence and we need to finalize the the pavers i know everyone was saying that we need to look at the craftsman style fences i didn't like those guys i think we the fence thing set up but like we're doing iron we can't order this fence and you keep saying i don't care i don't care and the fence shows up and like you don't like it so i need you to sit beside me while we like firm everything up with the person okay we'll do that um what i was gonna say is last night tate also wanted it was so cute we had got back from one of our neighbor's houses and she wanted to we had just eaten and she ate a lot but she wanted to sit in her high chair and put on her bib and get her plate out and so we filled her plate with food she didn't want the food she just wanted to sit in the high chair with her bib on.

1:02:09So we just did that. We just sat there. So I think something different was happening. What do you think? I think that she knew it was about to be bedtime. Yeah, she was distracting. And she didn't want to go to bed. And so she was like, oh, if I make them give me food, then they won't take me upstairs. Which is funny because she was very tired. So I was surprised that she did that. Yeah, that was really funny. I mean, I thought, okay, if you're able to give me the signals that this is what you want, we'll do it. She sat in the chair. She didn't eat the food though. Okay. So we had this video that we posted of Tate where I was trying to talk about how confusing it is for kids to be sitting on the table at home, but not at the restaurant.

1:02:50And when I was doing that, she poured out her spin drift. Yes. And I want to read one. And I'm sure if you haven't seen the video, you can go watch it. It's on TikTok and Instagram. But if you have seen it, you'll know what I'm talking about. She pours it out IRL. I also would love to know how parents deal with their children pouring out liquids. Well, a lot of times she has... Sippy cup? She doesn't want a sip of cup. She doesn't like the sip of cup. She wants like a real glass. I can't believe I didn't... I thought I screenshotted... It's just... It happened. She loves to pour glass to glass.

1:03:29And what started to happen, there isn't a glass there. and I think what she's doing is she's curious how much is in there but then oh it's just my favorite comment it's under the fold but someone screenshotted when she just is pouring it it is the funniest photo I've ever seen oh really I'll show it I gotta see guys so I see I found it okay so there's a dialogue going on and they say so somebody says do you realize you're reinforcing this behavior by telling her she did a good job and everyone's like i'm she's saying good job to her cleaning up like that i was not saying and there was a gap just so we're really clear like after she poured it we we clarified to tate we tried to show her you drink not pour or you pour into another cup it's also so fun for her to pour right now like we're we're no nobody at the right age of 30 good job to pour no we were saying good job we were clearly saying good job to her cleaning up but no one's still pouring out their cups at five so like we'll be okay but this is what somebody says the parents quick reaction showed urgency without shame so she knew something wasn't right what she did isn't wrong though babies are scientists and their job is experimenting and figuring out the world she was repeating an action she had done before which is dumping water into a cup as the parents say in the video she didn't have the other cup she learned that when she makes mistakes, her parents won't punish or yell at her, but guide her through it.

1:04:59Not just clean it up for her, but teach her how to fix the mistakes because mistakes are going to be inevitable. This is the exact kind of parenting that helps kids feel safe, teenagers be honest, and adults who aren't afraid to fail. Now, we didn't know we were doing, like we did, when I read that, I was like, this makes sense. We didn't know we were doing it. Things that Harrison and I talk about are we never want to get mad at her for doing I have read kids are scientists we don't want her to get in trouble we also don't want her to think she can just dump out water and then we will always clean it up she has to help clean up yeah but it was cute to see she recognized something wasn't wrong but she felt no shame yeah I think that that perfectly captures the situation like starting with the saying that toddlers are scientists I know you just said you've heard that before I don't think I've ever heard that before.

1:05:53Or if I have, I forgot I heard it. Because I love it. And I feel like that subconsciously is like the lens that I'm consistently looking at her through. It's like, all right, is she trying to learn and discover? And if she is, and yeah, it's like our job to support her through that. But I always say she's running her science experiments. Yeah, she's running experiments all the time. Yeah, and that's a scientist. Yeah. Yeah, like she, and I just think that, like the other day, remember she was holding scuba don't go as they're supposed to you help her fix it she was holding a glass bottle and we were on a brick surface and she dropped it and it broke everywhere yeah like instead of being like no no no because we i dropped a bottle yesterday but i dropped it on wood and it didn't break and it was an accident when i dropped it and it was an accident when she dropped it you know so instead of being like no no no you're not allowed to drop it then she'll be so afraid next time she holds the bottle to that she might drop it and sometimes you just drop a bottle yeah and you also inherently learn when you drop glass on surface x it breaks and then surface y it doesn't well i'll tell you what i still don't have that down like sometimes the bottle breaks sometimes the bottle doesn't break yeah i meant more so it's like if you drop the bottle into water it's not going to break right you drop it on concrete oil yeah yeah yeah you know the miranda cosgrove meme no the the i actually do cuss a little oh yeah that's what every one reminded me in the comments of you there said oh my god this is the first time we've ever heard alex swear well i just i kept it in there because i was like this is probably a very normal someone someone that's so funny but i i actually can't get over i actually do cuss a little here's what i think is happening in her brain like because that is the face she makes when she pours it into another cup and so she's like looking to see what's happening.

1:07:44And she's pouring it on the napkin. Because she knows the napkin absorbs the liquid. She doesn't know she's doing something wrong. Oh my god, she's my favorite. She does not know she's doing something wrong. I'll tell you what though, we clean up a lot of liquid in our house right now. Yesterday she poured her cup on her lunch plate and then took her lunch plate and dumped it on the ground. She was so proud that she got the liquid on the ground. Let me just... I'm kind of just like happy cleaning it up right now. I don't know. Wayfair, every style, every home. Your outdoor space should feel like you.

1:09:37Okay, what else do we want to talk about? Rocky Bears is, he's just, it was so, I just couldn't stop laughing at him yesterday. Because he goes to the neighbor's house to swim, but he doesn't actually swim. And then he's at the neighbor's house to eat dinner. And he's just, he's along for the ride. I would mark, how many weeks in are we, eight? Yep. I'd say he officially looks different to me. And he smiles. Than when we brought him home from the hospital. Like, I think before I said things really changed three months in. To me, it's feeling like, all right, eight weeks, this is the first, like, line in the sand that I can draw on him feeling less fragile, a lot more engaged, a lot more awake, and just looking materially different.

1:10:24He's so cute. And snuggles. Nice boy. Very nice boy.

1:10:33So, yeah, that's, Rocky's doing good. The reflux, I know that I had discussed it. I would say it's significantly better. I think at week six and seven, it was just, he was developing something. And I mean, wouldn't you say it's almost gone? Yeah, totally. Yesterday, he did throw up like all over me, but that was, I don't think he's doing that every bottle. like we went the whole we went most of the day yesterday without it totally he had the bad morning one and then throughout the whole rest of the day he was fine so yeah i think that we're we're trucking along um it was really fun so we went to my friend olivia's daughter's birthday maybe you saw us on my insta story it was her first birthday and there were so many moms there i mean there's dads there too but there were so many moms and babies and i was just looking around being like it's so funny to think back to when we first moved here i you know didn't have this group of mom's friends mom friends because tate wasn't even born yet and then you know you have your first kid and then your second kid and it was so comforting being in that area with like all these moms because sometimes it's hard to take kids places and so where i feel the most comfortable is number one if you're there and number two if i'm with like my mom girls and i just loved knowing like somebody was always like looking at rocky or somebody like they're playing with tate and it's such a comforting feeling to finally have like your your group your village yeah um i'm proud of you for a lot of different things right now but one specific thing that i'm proud of you for that i'll call out is and i think i have called it out several times over the past week is is the mom community that you built here because when we moved here it just it didn't exist no it didn't and and that is on your doing and and you know it's something that um has come together with such a great group of women and families um and they make life so much better So I'm proud of you for like having built that.

1:12:42But I got lucky. I got lucky with the girls that are here. And the girls like if you think about it only two of my friends' kids were older. So they were already moms. The rest became moms with me. But if you don't put the time and the effort into talking to those moms, connecting with those moms. And obviously it's mutual. It's them as well. Then like it doesn't happen. And I see how easy it is to, you know, to not put yourself out there and to stay at home. And I'm just kind of saying that, you know, we could be here two plus years living in Austin. And I could have just stayed here. And we could be looking around and, you know, that community could not be there.

1:13:20Well, that community would be there. I wouldn't be in it, you know. So it's great. It's great that I, yeah, I love them. I'm really thankful for them. And I love the way that they all mom. you know what I mean yeah and the other thing that I I was talking all great husbands as well yeah they're they're just awesome like they're just awesome but what I was talking to one of them about was getting comfortable asking for help so like the day I went to swim without you there was one time that Harris he went to the Spurs game so I went to swim and I took both kids and I just texted the group ahead of time and I was like can someone come outside when I get here because like I can't bring them both in yeah and and like it's so funny like you you used to never ask for help.

1:13:58I never would ask for help and then when I got inside Olivia walked right up to me and she's like I'm gonna hold Rocky while you do swim with Tate and I was like thank you amazing and it's so it's so nice to just you ask for help and then this because this is what I said too I want to help so this brings us to we went to a party with that was a kid party I was gonna you stole my transition Alex I was so excited to be the podcaster and transition to the next point no you got it you got it well we went to the I ruined the transition by doing that. So anyways, we went to a kid's party. We had back-to-back events, and the second one was no kids.

1:14:34And so we went to the first one because we were going from one to the other. So we went to the kid's party because we wanted to stop by and say hi to the parents, and we went with no kids. And what was so funny about being there was, well, number one, I got to hold so many other babies that I never get to do. But number two, what did you say when we left? My big observation is like, you know, in talking to everyone, it really shined light on how even when you're having a conversation, how much of everyone's brains is still on tracking their kids. yeah and in three and and i loved it because it just showed like how engaged and attentive all the parents were but like three conversations all um you know at some point where the parent i was talking to i had to step away because they either saw that their kid needed something their kid came up to them and so it just like it really shined light on like the dual parenting brain like you're having a conversation here but like you see your kid is walking over to the table to grab some crackers and can't reach them so like you're you just got it in the middle of the conversation walk to the table and uh and and help them with the crackers and and funny enough like i really then felt it the next day at at the neighbor's swimming when it's like you know you're having a great conversation but yeah but like you are fully attentive on where the kids at all times um around the food around the pool etc etc right 100 yeah and it's it's it's i just haven't been to a kid party without kids since before we had kids does that make sense yeah and back when i went without kids i was like oh man like you know just hey everyone and then you tuck and roll out.

1:16:28But now going, it's such a different lens of like, I love seeing all the kids and I want to talk to them and play with them and hold them. But it is funny when you're trying to talk to the adults like they are just running around. And we are always running around. Yeah. It's very different. It's very different. So I'm not sure how this will all be cut up, but I did have to step away and do a little bathroom break. And on my bathroom break, I was filling up my beautiful Buc-ee's cup here with some coffee. And what did Jules say about the coffee that I was filling it up with? That I didn't like it?

1:17:05You didn't like it. So here is a question for the room and I think more importantly for the audience. It can be, maybe it'll be a bicker of the week, maybe it won't. But what do you think about when you're about to eat a food and someone comments how much they don't like the food? How does that make you feel? Such a good question. Because you know who is the queen at doing that? me you i will order something and like i'm about to take a bite and you just go ew my within my friend group like i'm the yum yucker ah is that what it is yum yucking yucking other people's yums oh i'm such a big big yum yucker but i just don't have a filter and like i don't know it's a point of conversation i don't i agree jules didn't think about the impact it was going to have on you Yeah, but it ties in the point of like every time I say what I want for dinner, I'll be like, what do you want for dinner?

1:18:00And you say like, I don't know. You choose. Like, you know, I would love sushi tonight. You're gross. Sushi? I asked you what you wanted. You said you don't care. And then you take my craving and just bury it. Do you know I know what I want this week? Oh, please. Steak and fries and hamburgers and fries. Okay, what tonight? Steak. steak and fries tonight done. I have it in the fridge. What type of steak? I don't know. I may have to. Because you got bison steak last week. That was because I was at Whole Foods. This I got from H-E-B and it's my regular steak order. Okay, phenomenal. Yum. And then I have those fries.

1:18:41Those, what are those called? Benny and Jerry's? Benny and Jerry's fries. Jesse and Ben's. Jesse and Ben's. Jesse and Ben's fries. They're so good. Very good fries. Cooked in beef tallow or avocado oil. These are avocado oil. I'm upset about the placement that they have at Whole Foods, though. They're on the bottom. Would that mean that they're not selling as many? No, they're doing good. Why are they on the bottom? Can we get them eye level? Every time that a retailer does a reset, they determine where the products go, and so hopefully it changes its placement. So one or two times a year, a retailer will bring in new products and take out old items, and then also reorganize how they're displayed on the shelf.

1:19:25Okay, because they were sold out of one flavor, I think the regular, and then they only had the other one left. So I thought these are doing really well, but why are we on the bottom? Yeah, I think they're doing great. I think people love them. There's a couple other good brands too. Nothing. All I was going to say is, yeah, you're welcome to call me out when I yuck your yum. I think it's just a hilarious dynamic. You shouldn't do it, and I do it all the time. I think it's great that Jules does it, especially to you. I love that. I'm a full supporter. You just had such a big one on me. I'd love to remember.

1:19:58I don't know. Okay, I want best parent. So in the comments, best parenting tip we've heard in a while. I had my youngest son start to take me on a date when they were teenagers. I gave them a budget and they planned the date. I encouraged them to open doors, order for me, and pay for the meal so they could learn. Wish I would have done this for my older boys. This is one of my favorite parenting tips I've heard in a very, very long time. I think the only kind of tip and cap or the only like change that that I'll want to make on in our house is like all want To Take the lead on Rocky doing that for you So I don't want you telling him How to you know how to take you on the date and you giving him the money I want to do it so that way he's very much Taking the initiative towards you and then I'll be taking Bubba out on her dates.

1:20:46We're overdue for date night. Yeah Maybe I'll take it for dinner tonight. Maybe I'll take it for sushi. No, because we're having steak and fries. I know. It was a joke. That was a joke. Bad joke. Bad joke. Bad joke. Okay, bicker of the week. Okay. Jules, why don't you tee up this bicker? No. You tee up the bicker. So we did an emergency recording Friday because - It wasn't an emergency. We just did it. We're being dramatic for the content. 100%. We're recording a couple extra episodes for Fourth of July week. That's an irrelevant part of the bicker. Should we bicker about how to tell the story?

1:21:30I just think like we were at the studio. We were here. We were at the studio. Harrison and I drove together in the same car. He brought his laptop. He left his laptop in the car. We came up here. We recorded. I was then going to leave and drive to my workout class whereas Harrison was going to walk home I get in the car I see oh Harrison's laptop's in the car I'm about to be gone for three four hours nobody loves their laptop more than Harrison it's the equivalent of you leaving your phone in someone's car so I think the nicest thing I can do here is get the laptop out of the car but I don't have time to take it all the way upstairs because then I'll miss my workout class so I took the laptop out and I set it on the side of the building you need to see where she left the laptop like Jules and I had to take a photo because it was left in such a reposterous place like it wasn't hidden at all I thought if I hit it you wouldn't be able to find it you could hit it, take it a photo and send it it was in the shade it was such an absurd hiding point I only discovered it with Jules it was an insane move It was the fastest I could get it out.

1:22:42Would you? Okay. So here's the bicker of the week. Would you rather me take the laptop with me or leave it there? I feel like you're the queen of like encouraging people to just like make the extra effort. Right. And that to me is a great example. Like you just could have like walked into the art studio and said, hey, I'm going to leave this here for the next two and a half minutes. or you could have hit it somewhere. Like you put it in like the most stealable place that it ever could have existed. No one's going to steal the laptop right there. I thought that I put it, I thought if I, Harrison, sometimes you.

1:23:23What if it, like it's been periodically just dumping rain in Austin. You didn't even put it under like a cover. This is why I hit it where I did, which I didn't hide it. You didn't hide it. I don't like the term hide. I was going to say, this is why I left it in plain daylight. is because like the other day you're like where's the child's motor in it it's like it's at your eye level in the fridge like where's the ketchup it's just it's right there i'm surprised you just didn't leave in the middle of the street i would have if it wouldn't have gotten ran over i thought that you were going to be so happy that i noticed your laptop was in the car and got it out yeah i my skill of carrying on this was was i mean jules was there for the reaction a 0.5 out of 10 i just like I saw it like this is the bicker of the week and I'm just gonna take a picture and we'll talk about it on the pod so would you rather me taking the laptop with me or left it in a crazy spot uh yeah I always need my laptop so you need your laptop yeah it's big it's a big one for you so it's not a real bicker of the week it's more of a story time of the week yeah okay and then I think that that oh So I love the death to the summer job.

1:24:34Let's do that one as the things we DMed. So in 2005, 51.7 % of teens, and that's ages 16 through 19, had a summer job. 2026, 30%, the lowest rate since BLS started tracking in 1948. No more summer jobs. Bureau of Labor Services. Bureau of Labor Services. I was wondering what that was. It's a 21-point drop in 26 years. teens aren't getting jobs anymore I couldn't be less surprised by this that's the energy I feel I don't see people going to Jersey Mike's anymore and working behind the counter working the cashier like I don't see it what's your take on it lifeguarding used to be the number one summer job I just wondered if you guys had any good summer job stories our kids are going to have summer jobs like our kids are going to be doing productive things in in the summer um and whether kids aren't getting summer jobs because they're playing video games or whether they're not getting summer jobs because they're doing like college sat prep like i believe in uh having a well-rounded upbringing with a variety of different experiences and um summers are our time to work we learn and grow and and that can look very different it doesn't need to be like traditional work um i want the girls to start a lemonade stand soon yeah it can be trying a little business soon i said i they would understand what what would bubber do if we started lemonade stand what would she do drink it splash she poured all she poured all out bubber gets to start lemonade stand when she gets to show that the day that she doesn't pour it all out i think she should have to start So I think on the summer job thing, though, let me ask you this.

1:26:30What if they have like two days all summer? For sports, like what if they're what if they're in some sport or some camp or something like that? Does that take the place of a summer job or? Yeah. And so job may not be the the the best summer activity. Yeah. I want them to be taking on a form of summer responsibility that isn't in the classroom. I agree with that. Yeah. I think this is interesting. I would like to know in – Like starting a business for the summer, if they put together a business plan, I'm all for that. Okay. If they want to train and like actually be training for something, I'll be very supportive of that.

1:27:09So here's why it's happening. I want it to be their ideas, not ours. The resume building treadmill. Summer is now AP coursework, SAT, ACT prep, club sports, college admissions activities, paid internships, camps, and volunteer hours. I'm fine with all that. That all sounds productive to me and good. i'm good with that adult workers are now filling the roles and ai is starting to eat entry-level work

1:27:36you hear a pin drop what happened cat got your tongue no i was thinking about this ap thing because i didn't need to deal with it in canada and so i just realized i'm not i'm not well versed on it i didn't need to deal with it either it wasn't something you were dealing with in the summer oh Jules is not Jules is con P I just feel like I want our kids to deal with their schoolwork during the school year but this is actually as it comes in our mouth it's one of those interesting things where it's like is this something that parents are gonna come back and say it's just not feasible to think that way you might have like a summer packet like I think the most important thing that I did during high school was have a summer job was your best summer job and your worst summer job I worked at a bakery one summer okay That was great.

1:28:19Love that. Because, and the only thing I remember about it was we would play the same FM radio station all day. And so those songs that were, like, popular that summer, Payphone by Maroon 5. Oh. And, like, a couple other ones, they just, like, take me instantly back to this bakery. And then I worked at a restaurant for, like, I mean, the rest of it. That was my first summer. And then after that, I was at a restaurant for years. I have something I want to double tap into off what you said there because it's happening a lot with us. We're playing a lot of old school music right now. Because music's not as good.

1:28:51And what I've noticed is 50 % of the songs that I used to love, still love, like play them on repeat. But 50 % of them, I just like overplayed that when I hear them, it gives me like a bit of the ick. So like when I hear Justin Timberlake, like when I hear Sexy Back, it's like change the song right away. Oh, but mirrors? Leave it on. versus what's the Wiz Khalifa one that we love? Trumpets? Oh, No Sleep. That's Jason Derulo. Sorry. I'm on a big Trumpets kick right now. No Sleep. Yeah, it's something like No Sleep. Like when Alex and I, we play like seven. No Driving. You know the song? Oh my God.

1:29:35So good. It's phenomenal. We can't play it because. I know, I'm just going to make sure that that's the one because I'm actually now thinking it's not that one. But that's the song what you just sang. Really? Yeah. it and asleep and so we go through it and like it'll come on and like we'll we'll both be like oh that what a classic and then we play it like a couple times or one of us like no no okay remove it so that just payphone like if that came out i'd be like change it right away change it right away oh no i would like to listen it hurts my ears oh i loved payphone i listened to it i loved it but i overplayed it girls like me no i can play girls like me five times and it needs to have Cardi B in it, which you don't think, but I do.

1:30:16I agree to disagree. I love the Cardi B version. Give me a good and bad summer job, please. I played club sports. Volleyball. Every summer. That was my summer job. We're officially at the point that we need to go play volleyball, you and I. I need to see this. I did win the basketball. You did. You did win. We played a game of... Knockout. Of knockout. I saw it on your story. And I did finally prove to Harrison. You know, I will say that I did not know that was being recorded.

1:30:53And I did not. You were so proud of me. My reaction. Harrison, I watched it like four or five times. I thought it was so cute. It was so cute. If I wasn't going to win. Well, I hope you won. You need Alex to win. Yeah, and I did. I can't believe you haven't included a very important part of this. why didn't I win? I got you out. I did. I drained my three-pointer. Yeah. And ironically, so I took the shot, and I'm not sure if you noticed this, but it was from three points. And the rebound came right underneath the hoop. And so I was like, you know what? Rather than just put it right up, I'm going to wait for you to miss it.

1:31:44and I'm going to bump your ball away. Oh. And I was going to get you out. And so karma got me very bad. Because I didn't miss it. Because you drained it. Yeah. I was so happy. Yeah. I like probably would have had time to catch it and put it back up. I'm so glad you didn't. Yeah. As I think of it now. I was so excited when you went. So this is how you know we haven't had time to talk all weekend. It's because I watched that video that Lexi put up. and I was like that his reaction is so cute it was genuine I like thought that you weren't allowed cameras in that in that place are you? yeah I thought there was like a no photo place what place were you in?

1:32:26we were in the craziest craziest place okay are we allowed to say what it is? I thought you were in someone's house that would be cool I really did think it was in someone's house it's called Driftwood Golf and Country Club oh it's like an adult summer camp it is insane it is so fun There was a basketball court. We floated a lazy river. Oh. Bowling alleys, baseball fields. We watched the Spurs game in the theater. Have you seen the fake lazy river? No way. I would love to go. No, no. It's going viral. We'll have to insert it. But it was at Costco and it's completely fake. But it's like a blow up pool lazy river.

1:33:03It's so funny. And when I saw it, I thought if this was real here, someone would be having it for. One thousand percent. And it's not a bad idea. Sometimes I'm really proud of my internet senses. Because when I saw that, immediate copy link, immediate text and group chat. And I was like, nope, this feels fake. Went, Costco searched it, didn't see it. I was like, all right, perfect, I caught it. I almost sent it to you guys and then I said, oh, it was fake. Oh, good, so people knew. People knew it was fake. But it was so cool. Lazy Rivers are so fun. I cannot wait to take Bubz out there. She will die.

1:33:41Yeah. She'll be like, oh my God, you can float in a circle with a tube? Yeah. I couldn't believe this place. It was awesome. And so then we played Knockout. Just a bunch of adults. They just had TVs like everywhere. And so you'd be at the Lazy River. There were TVs. It's like you'd be playing in the basketball courts. There'd be TVs. Like you're bowling. There's TVs. Great place to watch a game. In New York, it was, yeah. But then there was so much going on, we didn't even see what happened in the game. Well, we definitely sat and watched the end of it, though. It was a very good game. What? Oh, yeah, you were talking.

1:34:13I was locked. I was locked in. I got an incredible piece of advice over the weekend. Okay, but hurry up. Okay, the cameras are going to die. This is like a very long. You go. Go really quick. How long does he have? Okay. He has time. This advice from, how do I come up with the way I want to describe them? Well, honey, this isn't the time for you to be at a loss of words. um so a very successful person yeah i don't want to boast guy up but but on that on the list of of like all-time u.s successful entrepreneurs and we're talking to him and someone asked him uh it was me neighbor t and him and neighbor t asked him uh what advice do you have for

1:35:06to entrepreneurs, family men, community members. It's almost a joke. Honey. It's not a joke. I know it's not a joke, but this isn't the time to talk slow, sweetie. How much time do we have left? That's not the time to ask that. Okay. We're going to save it for next weekend. Okay. Okay. We will be a good cliffhanger. We love you guys. Thank you for listening. 1:35:43Welcome to our home. Sorry it's so messy. New episodes Mondays and Thursdays.

This week on Two Parents & A Podcast, happy Monday & welcome to our FIRST week of 3 episodes a week!!! (Mon/Wed/Fri…) And YES, we are kicking things off with a LITTLE chaos (there were storms in Texas last night and everyone was up all night!!) So if you think this episode feels all over the place… IT IS!! (welcome to the inside of our brains on a Monday morning lol).

On today's episode: we get into a parenting concept that has officially rewired our brain: toddlers are SCIENTISTS!!! We are SO down to let our kids experiment + learn from their mistakes (safely). Plus, our #1 toddler hack: give them two choices (it has saved us in SO many standoffs already).

First we get into the World Cup… it's taking over our lives (and America) in the best way possible!!! The TikTok video of girls asking "wait, when did the US get into the World Cup?!" sent us, the European fans are LOSING THEIR MINDS over Buc-ee's, ranch, & unlimited refills (& sales tax not being on the list price?!), and Rod Stewart canceled his concert to go to a World Cup game (Harrison's defense: no chance, you'd NEVER do that for a group stage match — it was laryngitis).

Plus, Elon Musk officially became the world's FIRST trillionaire after SpaceX's IPO (Stock School with Harrison incoming!), the Summer House butterfly effect (Harrison's wildest theory yet on Jesse, Sierra & West), and the question we cannot stop thinking about: will Taylor & Travis ACTUALLY get married at MSG?! (& who would perform?? 🤔).

And the IRL stuff: Rocky's 8 week update (the reflux is significantly better!!), the importance of building your mom community (a huge s/o to my Austin moms 🥹), going to a kid's birthday party WITHOUT kids (the dual parenting brain is REAL), our BICKER OF THE WEEK (where Alex hid Harrison's laptop outside our studio… you just have to watch hahaha), RIP the summer job (only 30% of teens had one last summer?!), and we went to basically adult summer camp this weekend & we're never recovering!!

LOVE YOU GUYS!
