In short
Fantasy football punishments; home/hosting etiquette (tortillas, hostess gifts); wedding planning ideas (daytime “darty/daiger”); baby-shower registry follow-up; peanut butter sweet vs savory debate; AI and health news.
Guests
None. Hosts are “Two Parents in a Podcast” (Jules and Harrison are discussed; no external guests appear).
Key claims
- Fantasy football punishments should be “commit to the bit” and actually completed; examples include golf with strangers pretending to hit shots without clubs/ball, and a league shirt at Expo West.
- For baby showers at someone’s house: guests bring gifts for the guest of honor, not the host; when in doubt, a Whole Foods orchid is suggested.
- Peanut butter is “sweet” (often neutral/slightly sweet, ranked ~6–6.5), even in peanut butter pretzels.
- Wedding vibe can be optimized by moving the main celebration to Saturday daytime (a “darty/daiger”), not defaulting to nighttime.
- AI texting integration should be transparent; Moderna’s AI-assisted personalized cancer vaccine could prevent recurrence.
Notable examples
- “HGB” tortillas convert a corn-tortilla skeptic; warming tortillas matters.
- A book anecdote about Sarah/“Lean In” culture and maternity leave consequences.
- Offprint: saved articles printed into a monthly physical magazine.

We did. our um our fantasy draft order was for football it's that time of year it's that time of year there was a phenomenal uh fantasy football punishment that i saw that i've never got the chance to talk about okay or is this not of interest no no i'm interested in this okay i think this is maybe the best one i've ever seen i'll actually go as far as saying this is the best fantasy football punishment I've ever seen.
1:21Okay. You need to go and play 18 holes of golf with a group of people you don't know, so with three other folks you don't know, and you need to play the whole round without clubs or a ball, pretending that you're hitting every shot. Is this landing? Yeah, yeah, we got it. Yeah. So the guy, like, watching this guy walk up on the first tee, and it's so good it's so good is it so just driver in hand lines up practicing and just pretends to smoke it you guys see where that went oh right in the fairway there we go it's phenomenal phenomenal it's my favorite one okay okay i think that you can't tell them importantly why you're doing it well right right right so i love that i I would like, because that to me, like the third or fourth hole, one of the other guys is just going to be like, dude, like what's going on?
2:28So I would rather, or not rather, because I love seeing this, but in addition to, I would like to raise, I want to keep the base of this 18 holes of golf with other three people you don't know. But I want to mix and match it and maybe like some crazy attire or maybe you play it mute the whole time like i want people to pile on this foundation this trend yeah that is so funny yeah our our fantasy football league are i don't i think our punishment's very lame like who thought of that and i i may suggest this to be the um i thought you were gonna say they went up in like a big bird outfit like who no i think those are lame i'm out on those who thought of playing with that ai chat chibi t what's your lame punishment so everyone in my fantasy league is it's like a consumer packaged goods fantasy league and so everyone works in uh works in the industry and everyone goes to expo west every year and so So the loser needs to wear a shirt at Expo West, which says, I suck at fantasy football, which is good, but I think we could do more.
3:42I'm sorry. That is, we're not, I'm not going to say that's good. Yeah. I love the guys that love the league. Not a good punishment. Who picked that? This is now our third year in the league. And so I think a lot of it was just like getting, getting the trains. moving getting the train moving for year one and year two and now year three hopefully we can we can make an improvement to the punishment if you and i will confidently state i will not lose but if you do lose you really wouldn't want to wear that at expo west right you would kind of come around it's kind of embarrassing i like a thing that's important for your career i don't think it's i don't think it's worn uh i think it's worn more so for a photo rather than the full day.
4:30That's lame. The stakes aren't high enough for me on that. I agree. I agree. And what I also... I just got a whiff of something weird. What I also want to see for... Does anybody smell that? Smells like our room? There's definitely a smell to this room. That's not what it is. It's different. Okay, anyways. What I want to just see from these fantasy leagues is like, do the punishment. Make the person do the punishment. because then if you don't do it this year and you just like blow it off and say whatever, well then next year when you go to sign up, it's like lost its luster. We do the punishment.
5:09It's just not done in... No, not to you. I'm just saying this to all fantasy football doers. You got to do the punishment. Far and wide. Yeah. Commit to the bit. Yeah. From like four years ago, Alex Kost still hasn't done his Waffle House punishment. I remember he used to sit there for 24 hours, right? Yeah, he still hasn't done that. Yeah, we've got... Alex, we need you to go do that, please. Yeah, that's a good call out actually. All right. Let's get this Monday party started. Welcome back to another episode of Two Parents in a Podcast. It's a lovely Monday. It's a Monday. Well, it's just a Monday, Monday.
5:43Jules was late today. It's a bold-faced lie. Bold-faced? Yep, bold-faced. Bold-faced, bold-faced? Yeah, she was not. Jules has never been late. I actually was late today by five minutes. Wow. I pulled in behind pee. But still early. So you're really tugging at my whatever. We're hitting a sore spot? Yes. Yeah. We were early as well. That was because the nanny share was in full force. It was a zoo. We had the neighbors sitting on the couch. I mean, we were all just over there. So finally we were like, you know what, guys? We got to go. And here we are. We had some other neighbors over for dinner last night on the block.
6:26And you know what? Harrison made, he started, our household has changed recently and we have done something magnificent. And I'm going to give you a lot of credit here because you've, you've changed. And sometimes I think in relationships, people aren't willing to change and aren't willing to hear the other one out. What I thought I was going to have to do for the rest of my life is like wince whenever Harrison's cooking, like literally sit over there and wince and disassociate from the chaos happening in the kitchen. Because when you used to cook, you were so messy. And you've become really clean and slow.
7:05And you enjoy the process. And you clean as you go. And you changed because I taught you, cooking doesn't have to be such a rush. It doesn't have to be a sprint. It could be more of a marathon. And it could be enjoyable. And it could be more clean. And you were like, yeah, I'm going to try that. And then yesterday, you were like, I'm loving this. It was just one or two. Thank you for recognizing. asking. It was just one or two small steps. And so I'll give you an example. Okay. All right. So typically what I would have done is it takes like five-ish minutes to cook shrimp. And so what I would have done is I would have, if guests are coming at six, I would have at 545 done a sprint where I would have like peeled the shrimp, patted them down, seasoned them, and then cooked them.
7:51And then our house is messy right before the guests get there. And instead of what I did at four o 'clock, I peeled the shrimp, I seasoned them, I covered them, I put them in the fridge. And then guests arrive at six. I asked for five minute heads up before I ever wants to eat. And then I just did the little five minute shrimp cook before. So it just a little different type of planning has been has been key to it. No, but you used to also be like what? So I used to just be anxious while you were cooking. Bless you. Sorry. And then it wasn't enjoyable because then you eat the meal and you have so much to clean up afterwards.
8:29But now that you're doing it at a little slower pace, you're enjoying yourself, it's been lovely. Thank you. So yesterday he made, what are those called? Short rib? I did a nice five-hour short rib. Is it braised? Braised, yeah. A braised short rib and then shrimp tacos. Yeah. so I the reason why I did do you want to hear my thought yeah so I love like a nice low and slow cook yeah uh but there's also some variance to it I think short rib it's a joke if you don't love beef it's not going to be dish for you um and so I figured I'd have like I want to have a real simple easy dish like shrimp you can't really mess up shrimp tacos well no you can you can it's very hard no chat said be careful how long you cook them because they go from good to rubber really quick even when you overcook shrimp you can't really tell in in a shrimp taco so i did shrimp and coleslaw for the shrimp taco super easy knew no matter what they'd be like an eight out of ten and then a bit more risk to the short rib uh but more upside and that could be like a nine or ten out of 10 so i thought the ratio was the main character and it's really good i think it came out really well thank you what'd you think of my salad be honest i didn't eat it what i made the dressing from scratch whoa jules it was really good i added spices it said look good it look good i'll give you that look it said instead of getting like what's it called jarred garlic actually do your own chopped garlic so i did that wow it looked very good did the whole thing what kind of salad just a traditional mexican salad oh nice corn bean romaine corn bean romaine onion uh cheese tomatoes tomatoes right now they must be in season these things were amazing they were so good so anyways we had the neighbors over and actually i think that this is a good house etiquette question.
10:43So one last thing. Yes, sir. I'd never had the legendary HGB tortillas before. They're so good. They're out of this world. I'd never had them. They're as good as advertised. They're so good. They may be better. They're just another level of delicious. Did you get the butter ones? I got corn and flour. And I got to say, I'm not a corn tortilla guy. these may have converted me yeah i've never gotten the corn ones but i get they're a hybrid corn flour tortilla they're as good as the flour yeah i think it's a little better i'm telling you what tortillas i got really nervous i didn't think torture you could have that much variance in a tortilla like they're so good with an hgb tortilla you can i probably get them every other week they i'm gonna get them every week now i when you put out the tortillas i was like a little bit sad because I think at-home tortillas can completely run a taco.
11:40Like they just, they're cold or like they're whatever. And I was like, this sucks because your meats look so good. The fish and the meat looked like phenomenal. And then I tried that, I was shocked. Sorry, I warmed up the tortillas. Well, of course, but still, I think that a lot of times like, she's talking about like a Ortega tortilla. Yeah, like they just suck. Sorry, sorry to Ortega. Sorry, yeah, sorry to Ortega. I don't even know what Ortega is. Like I just think at-home tortillas a lot of times, like they're just, they kind of run it. We've been using the ones from, what's that Mexican restaurant in New York called?
12:10Takambe. So Takambe launched a CPG line. You told us about this. Okay. I've talked about it. So we've been using those. But we only had, like, I think they only come in a six pack or an eight pack. And given how many people were coming over, I was like, all right, this is the time. So he picked up 20 of them. We had just one couple over for dinner. I was unclear how many people were coming. They have three daughters. We didn't know if they were bringing their girls. And I thought, I kind of thought that neighbor T and neighbor would come by. I made six pounds of meat. Oh, wow. We ate about two pounds of it.
12:46It's so good. But we can have it today. Above and Beyond can look a lot of different ways. Like our waitress at our neighborhood restaurant who brings us bread the second we sit down. Because she knows us. She knows what we want. And honestly, with a toddler, keeping Tate occupied the second we get to a table is everything. She doesn't wait for us to ask you guys. She just gets it and it makes our experience so much better. And that kind of anticipating what someone needs before they can even say it, that's the energy I'm talking about. And this is the same energy you look for when hiring. When a candidate goes the extra step, they really stand out.

15:20I don't know. Yeah. And you're fine. But that to me. Not only is she fine. She should not take one. I agree. I agree. I'm thinking about a friend of ours just had their birthday party at another person's house. And we didn't bring them something. But what I will say. Where it can get a little different. Is when you're bringing a gift to the party. It kind of covers both ends. Hold on. I think that I really want to. I'm going to do some defined lines right here. And I know there's some etiquette people out there, and I'm hoping somebody corrects me. But the way I understand it is, if you are going to an organized event where invites were sent out, and you are bringing a gift for somebody, i.e.
16:04a baby shower, a wedding shower, you take that gift for the guest of honor. You do not take a gift for the person that hosted it. I completely agree because, as you said before, the person hosting it gets the gift. From the person they are hosting it for. Now, if we have a dinner party and we invite 10 couples and we're hosting and we're providing the meal X, Y, Z, and people want to bring a bottle of wine or sometimes our friends bring us flowers, that's fine. But unnecessary. Completely unnecessary. But I understand in that regard where if you wanted to like, so Harrison in this example loves to take something.
16:42So we always take something if we're going to a dinner party. yeah and i'm saying that when like when you when time is not on your side and you need something quick but to cover your base the whole foods orchid yeah yeah yeah like yeah worse they're there all the time yeah i realized we forgot to do dessert last night we also we did forget to do dessert and i know she likes cookies so i do feel bad about that but i will say my mom gave harrison and i whenever we got married monogram placemats that we've never used and last night we pulled them out and like actually set the table which we definitely don't do with the kids because like it's just like tate tate ended up taking the place amount of putting it in her lap as a napkin but like it's not we're not in the phase of life where we're setting the table but that was really fun to be able to do some place setting yeah what goes into the larger theme of like i love cooking
17:39big, extravagant meals is maybe what we want to call them. Like I love putting a lot of effort into the meals. And the reality of you as a person is you don't really care whether I'm taking ground turkey out of the fridge, putting some salt and pepper on it and cooking it in seven minutes or spending seven hours cooking a piece of meat and accompanying four to five sides around it. And so the kind of a halfway compromise is when I'm going to cook big meals, we're going to have people over. Well, it's live to eat versus eat to live. Yeah. Or somebody being a foodie, which I'm just - But that itch wasn't like, I wasn't scratching my own itch of cooking big meals.
18:26And so rather than go out for dinner, I like this having people over. What's the term for an app? Like I, when I'm going to go to a restaurant, so we're going to go to Washington DC for the high rocks and we're going with four other couples. The boys are all running the race. And the night before I was like, I want to go to a really fun restaurant. We're there for one night with four of our best friends. And I was like, I really want a good vibe. But so I was asking somebody for a rec and they were like, are you going to optimize for food? Are you going to optimize for atmosphere? And I was like, atmosphere every time.
18:57Like if the food is – I don't want the food to be bad. We talked about this before. Like the base rate of food at a restaurant is pretty consistent. Like you sit in that range where it's hard to actually stand out and it's also hard for it to be bad. So service and vibe much more important. So I have a question for Jules. Okay. Because this got brought up on the boat. We did a boat day on Saturday. And we were talking – Ooh, I know the question. It's a good question for Jules. It's got to be for Jules. Yeah. So we were discussing a birthday party and it was on a Saturday night. And one of my friends was like, there might not even be alcohol there because she's pregnant.
19:37So she doesn't drink right now. And one of the other girls was like, I don't. Do you do you do that? Like if you don't drink. So if you have a wedding and let's say the bride and the groom don't drink, do you offer alcohol for your guests or not? and it could be a cash bar scenario or do you not? Birthday party or wedding? You offer it. You offer it? I think, well I guess it depends on like the reason that you don't drink but like if you were morally opposed to drinking then I suppose you wouldn't offer it. If you don't drink by choice because like you're not you know, you don't like the effects or the health of my own side I think it's a wild move to host and not offer it's like saying i'm gonna take i'm gonna take it i think there's an unbelievable parallel here it's like saying you know what so at a wedding i don't eat salmon i don't eat fish so we're not gonna have a fish option in our wedding yeah i think wedding is different than like birthday birthday or dinner party or something like that like if i was doing a birthday party at my house i would say byob like i'm not supplying alcohol for people for a birthday party at my house but you're letting them byob but of course of course but i'm not like being like i'm the one that's supplying the aperol spritzes right i'm not gonna make you this yeah but i also think it's a very good um oh i'm losing the word i'm looking for like clarification act if you're hosting a birthday and you're not serving booze but you put on the invite byob that is a great cover of your basis right that's very open and inclusive versus if you're hosting the birthday party and you don't have anything on the invite and you don't serve booze then i feel like you go to the point of not being a good host yeah this is hard for me to answer because like i'm not hosting a birthday party right right and single wedding like i don't give me the if you're not going to serve booze totally understand if you don't drink and you don't totally understand put that byob on yeah well or yeah and i'm the guy that's not really like i'm drinking very very sparingly like on the boat on saturday i didn't uh i didn't drink yeah you're just doing non-alcs so i i think but i brought beers for other people right and we'll do that a lot or like if we host and like we're like we're not going to drink we'll just have out we'll just put out bottles of wine that's very nice of you i would never but we also we're gonna have it in the house right so it's just easy for like we'll just go to the cabinet and grab it right put it over ice okay now here's my other thing that i'm thinking of when it comes to weddings okay because a lot of times at weddings i think like they go late and there's people are drinking and blah blah blah what about i was just thinking like I would love it if somebody invited me to a Sunday morning wedding where you wore more of like a brunch outfit and like we had a coffee bar and things like that.
22:55Like I was kind of wondering why people don't do more of that. I completely agree. My thing about weddings is like why are all weddings like essentially the same when everyone's so different? Jules, it's a groundbreaking thought. Like I couldn't have like just like some normal nighttime wedding because like I don't – that's not my vibe. I don't enjoy that at all. I don't particularly enjoy going to them, you know? Fair. So, like, why would I have them just because that's the way that it's supposed to be? I really think about that often. So, like, so some people love, some people aren't night owls.
23:29Right. Some people love the mornings. They love coffee more than anything else. And they are optimizing for the mornings. Like, I love going to dinner and I love going out sometimes. So, like, a nighttime wedding for me will make a lot of sense for us. but i don't understand why people aren't taking over the sunday morning brunch option i agree well i i'd push back on the sunday morning and more so the saturday fine do saturday yeah i just think like we have an epidemic of everyone doing the same thing when like everyone's so different and you just do it because you think you're supposed to do it that way and some there's some people that there's some riding grooms that are like oh i gotta stay up It's like, just don't.
24:11I love this idea of doing something different. I have a minor suggestion. For our wedding, what? Because what if we pivot our Friday night plans, which we've not said on the internet, and we do it Saturday during the day. Love it. And make that the main event. Love it. What do you guys call a day party in college? Darty. I don't think we did. I think that Darty was adopted. I think that term came to me when I moved to the U.S. We were darties. They were formally called that. What about you? A darty, but then it became a daiger for a while. Love daiger. I love daiger. I've never heard that. Daiger.
24:52We might have to call it that. Yeah. We might have to call it our wedding daiger. Saturday, our Friday plans being on Saturday, changes my view of the wedding. Me too. you've just unlocked something massive for me. Because like I was so stuck on this. So we knew what we were going to do for Friday night of our wedding. And loved it. We're so, it's our number one. Like we're so excited about it. But it needs to be the Saturday. Yeah, duh. Jules, thank you for that. Just why, that's our favorite. That's our favorite thing on the planet. And we still do something, that big fun dinner on the Friday night.
25:24But that's going to be easier to slot. And I know why I want to do it. Okay, great. Tell me. We'll bleep it. Love it. Okay, wow. Harrison and I now, now guys, we kept, we kept, you know, kicking the can down the road on this wedding thing. Look out. Now we're going to plan it. Yep. Love it. Invites do the whole thing. Only thing. Okay. I don't know the deal with live music at that venue. We're going to figure it out. Okay. I I'll raise you one better. If that venue is in the middle of the day, I'm down to do a DJ. That venue is fun. No matter what it does not need to be. yeah you don't need a band you don't i've heard that we've cycled to that bands are cheaper than djs now i'm interested in exploring that at the last wedding that i was at that that was the news i was given is that they got their they had oh it was so cool this could be fun okay have you guys been to a dueling piano bar yes they had the dueling piano wedding it was great i love that and then you sing along yeah well not really like yes just a normal amount oh but it was like dual it was two pianists like a sax and a um drum guy and they just they took requests all night and they just oh it was the best ever this could be this could be the move for friday and apparently it's cheaper than a dj so djs have gone up i don't know i think okay it's very interesting yeah i do i think this is our unlock why why i already knew we weren't gonna do like floral tablescapes with like monogram menus like it's not gonna be that vibe but i needed to unlock the rest of it and i just like i love the food situation there i'm pumped do you know where we're talking about no and we have to like okay can you bleep it yes but okay no we're gonna keep jules on our toes no i'm saying like yeah it's not a good listening experience yeah when they don't know yes okay fair fair what are we worried about someone stealing our idea yes okay so we're not never seen a wedding down here okay okay i think i know what you're talking about um let's do the baby list follow-up so i had a lot of fun doing these the registries went in but got got i definitely erred towards getting you your breast milk breastfeeding supplies um a lot of the mom cozy.
27:53Well, I did breast pumps. I did the breast bras, the breastfeeding bras. And then I did the, um, that mom cozy temperature regulator for the milk. Oh, so I did. I bought a lot of those, but I also did some carriers. Anyways, it was a blast doing it. I'm going to keep doing it throughout this week too. Just like sometimes when I'm sitting in bed, I'll just pop on there and I like reading your messages. So thank you for the context. Um, and yeah, that was a really fun initiative anything you want to say um no very nice of you okay here's here's a question for you and it's a tough one okay but peanut butter is peanut butter sweet or is it savory because this is an internet discussion right now and initially you're like it's obviously sweet but then you're like but it's savory no it's sweet i feel like people are completely missing the mark on this okay depends on what type of peanut butter you eat some companies add sugar to it others don't if you're buying the straight peanut and uh like the if you're buying straight peanut peanut butter savory if you're buying the jiffy with added sugar sweet no it's still sweet i buy the just the ground peanuts from heba it's still a sweet treat so here's my thing If I'm craving something - Are you sure?
29:19Yes. Yeah. If I'm craving something sweet and I eat peanut butter on anything, it satisfies that. If I'm craving something savory, anything short of a French fry is not going to solve it for me. So it can never fall in my savory category. It can't. Sweet all the way. It's a very neutral food. That's what I was thinking. At the end of the day, it's a very neutral food. it's not it's not gonna hit either one of those extreme cravings it hits me no it hits the sweet like i think the girl talked about peanut butter pretzels in the video you're not but you're not i know i can speak to you you're not a sweet person you don't crave chocolate sometimes i do like my uncle paul I guarantee if you text him right now he wouldn't say it's sweet because he loves sweets right but it's more okay so if you have a and the same way you just said you love savory and there's nothing that will hit that savory craving like a french fry so I think that that's what this is coming down to I just think the best example is the peanut butter pretzels because like if we're putting pretzels and peanut butter oops pretzels and peanut butter pretzels in front of me pretzels are savory and peanut butter pretzels are sweet
30:44just a great disagree but i'd also assume people are talking about this i'd assume that that like let's pull up peanut butter pretzels and let's look at how much added sugars in those but peanut butter pretzels to me that does matter but hold on peanut butter pretzels to me are still savory really they're erring on the savory side so i listen i think if one is salty and savory and 10 is sweet peanut butter is a six it's not super sweet it's not an oreo i totally agree it's a six yeah and that's where i'm gonna conclude my my statement on this the reason why there's so much debate is because it it sits in that middle and so it can swing from it's a five a four to a six yeah these generic peanut butter pretzels have one gram of added sugar per serving did you asked chat to be too if it's savory or sweet oh no i didn't it could be a good parlay into some ai talking points ai discussion points chat's never had peanut butter like why does it get this is where this is where ai is starting to drive me crazy why does it how is it gonna know it would well okay it's technically savory peanuts are legumes and the nut itself is fatty salty and numami half of the word half of the world uses it that way half the world uses it as sweet ask it on a scale of one to ten with one being sweet and ten being salty where do you rank it and then ask it if it's ever personally had it well a 6.5 wow good job okay now jules can you ask it just so i can understand say have you ever tried it no i don't eat so i've never tasted anything so where are you getting this information from i have a huge amount of secondhand data okay how people write about it how people write about the taste the smell the blah blah blah yeah okay so i need somebody to dumbed down artificial intelligence for me really quickly.
32:57Who created it? Because there is no question you can't ask this thing that it doesn't have some answer for. Can we save this conversation for another time? Sure. Okay, you guys, one thing I've been trying to be more intentional than ever about is what I'm actually putting in my body every day. And omega-3 keeps coming up as basically the new multivitamin. It supports heart health, brain function, mood, healthy aging, all of it. If you're only going to get one thing right in your daily routine, this is the kind of thing it needs to be. Because let's be honest, most of us are not eating enough fatty fish to get anywhere close to a meaningful amount.
33:35That's where Aqua Omega comes in. Here's what I love. Not all fish oil is created equal, and honestly, a lot of them are mostly filler, which is disgusting. Aqua Omega delivers one of the highest concentrations of EPA and DHA per serving without the luxury price tag. Every batch is independently third-party tested for purity, potency, and freshness through one of the world's largest leading fish oil certification programs. It's also friend of the sea certified, which just makes me feel really good about it. And one of my favorite things, for every bottle sold, Aqua Omega removes one pound of plastics and debris from the ocean and coastlines.

What do you want to talk about? We have two AI things. Do you want the AI for good or the AI for bad? I think you've always got to do bad news first, good news second. Oh, I was asking Jules. Okay. What she said. Okay. Bad first. Okay. Did you see the ChatGBT Apple iMessage integration?
34:57No. Okay. ChatGBT integrating with iMessage so it can scan your messages, mark out your to-dos, craft responses for you. ChatGBT has entered the texting chat. I hate it. Why? Why? Just because like, sorry, how can it send a text message on your behalf from your phone and it's your contact information and it's not you? Like that's where I really struggle with. So basically the way it works right now. So you install the integration and then you'd say, hey, please pull up all my texts that I need to reply to and then craft responses. It'll give you the responses and then you approve them. So it's not auto sending them, but I believe you can turn on the auto send functionality.
35:48So if somebody says, hey, Alex, do you want to go on a walk Friday at 10 a.m. Get coffee beforehand? It's going to is it going to ask me if I want to go? Yes. It's going to say, do you want to go on a walk? It'll say, Hannah asked you this. Do you want to do it? But it'll add your likely your schedule looks your calendar looks free. So in that regard, fine, I like it. But in another regard, like where it's texting somebody back, I don't know. Something about it's not sitting right. Here's what I need. What? Here's what I need with this. I need Apple to jump in and put at the bottom of every message sent with ChatGPT.
36:35If it is sent with ChatGPT. That's what I need. no but then I'm gonna be like okay so if Jules sends me something with chat gbtm and I'm responding but did you read it did you know you sent it but the base rate is she did and assuming it makes sense you can you can say that but if it didn't make sense yeah then it you could go back but I think it's very important context for the end user to have and even the sender to have just the the little notate the little note this is like this is this is honestly overstimulating Like we're going to be sitting at the dinner table with our kids in 20 years and they're going to be laughing being like mom and dad used to write their own text messages.
37:16Like can you imagine? Yeah. Like having to reply to all your friends. But it's like writing handwritten letters. But Harrison, it's very, very difficult for me to comprehend. Like so now I'm going to stop writing my own text messages. Where are we going to go from here? like it's a bit change i know is a good thing it's just it's a little scary like we're not driving our own cars we're not writing our own text messages but all this energy can be put to other places now what am i doing like if i can't text you back what am i doing but how what it's like you're arguing that that texting is some productive activity for society well i'm not i'm not arguing at all i'm saying i'm overwhelmed by the amount of technology available i love texting i'm it's scaring me you're passionate jules is very neutral on this subject yeah i'm just not sure i'm overwhelmed i'm i'm all for it i'm just all for transparency around what's happening i think it just like remove it removes a human element of communication where there's like already so many misunderstandings over text message because like there's already a screen between you and another person.
38:35So it just like adds another element of that. It's a little. Unless it's better at communication. We're getting further and further away from like people are already dealing with like people are isolated. People are feeling lonely. There's this whole epidemic going on. And now you're telling me between me and Jules's text message it's going to be two robots talking yeah on our behalf freaky it is it's just a little it's just i just it's all this ai stuff is all happening so fast that it's yeah it's a bit overwhelming for me and i'm and i'm a millennial who understands technology so i can only imagine how that feels for somebody in their 50s and 60s no but i my i hear you on it i just think the other side of the equation is previous generations would have been said the same thing about going from writing letters to cell phones no i'm and i'm for it and i understand this is how technology works and you need to ride the wave and we need to welcome it not fight it and i'll do that i will i will welcome the the ai agent i have a cell phone thing that i learned while i was at home that was maybe just slightly happened before i could understand when you first got when people first got cell phones you had to be on the same network as other people to get calls yes we need to debunk this i don't think that's true because that's apparently why my whole family has what we have we don't need to dox it but it's the worst thing ever no but i i think there's got to be some get like some truth but some gap there like maybe calling yes no no that's calling calling between them was maybe free like at &t to at &t was free and it'd be like five cents to call verizon you could you could call the other people but texting may have been free so there were price breaks that's not how it worked okay well now this isn't groundbreaking anymore that's totally it yeah well i didn't even know that it was cheaper and that's why my whole family like whole extended family we all have the same plan even though everyone hates it but no one knows how to like no one no one's breaking free from it still you can't hardly it's so hard these days to like go you got to go to the store i mean it is that'll be the next thing that's pretty automated i mean apple's doing a good job but i'll also say this on this tech situation the book i'm reading careless people and i'm getting a lot of dms from people that are also reading it because the pod you know we're reading it on the podcast now.
41:09And so I don't know if I'm on chapter, I don't know, I'm on page 120. I don't know what chapter that is, maybe 12. So if I'm going to spoil something for you, go like skip, you know, three minutes right now. But listening to this girl, she had a baby. Sheryl Sandberg, is that her last name? Yeah. Sheryl Sandberg, okay. So she works, she was number like 12 at Facebook. Wait, I thought it wasn't Sheryl. It's not. Oh, okay. It's Sarah. Cheryl Sandberg is number two at Facebook. Yeah, this girl's number 12 is right in the book. Okay. So she works for Cheryl. And Cheryl has kids, right? Yeah. This woman, she gets pregnant while she's at Facebook.
Read the full transcript
41:50Her water breaks in a meeting. She Ubers to the hospital. And while she's there, Cheryl asks her for talking points to go brief her to go meet with some prime minister. She writes them up. She sends them to her. Then she goes back to work. She starts to bring her baby to work some. And because she doesn't take her whole maternity leave because it's frowned upon if she does. So she goes back to work. But she's from New Zealand. And there, it's very, it's also the same thing here. But it's very normal standard for the mom to be with the baby for the first six months. Cheryl's like, you got to hire a nanny.
42:29Like, you can't be bringing the baby. So she hires the nanny. the first day on the job the nanny goes they live in new york she goes outside the apartment door to get something and the door closes behind her and locks so the baby's locked in the apartment alone so she calls the fire department well it seems as though they have some version of the nana but maybe there's no sound on it and so the husband's watching the monitor at work and all he sees is the baby and a guy in a fire uniform running around so he's like what's happening so they both like leave and they go home sorry Cheryl's in or Sarah is in Mexico at this point so her husband's calling her like the fire department's there the baby's locked in so she freaks out and leaves the meeting she gets reprimanded for leaving in her um end of year performance review they're like you need to leave your fit like this is not a place we don't talk about personal issues so fast forward six months later her baby has to go in an ambulance and all cheryl just gives her this look and she's like it won't affect work she's like good like the the culture is so intense to read about there this is so surprising yes because cheryl's a big like women moms work-life balance yeah so this girl's really I thought that Facebook was very much had a different culture around family life and balance.
44:04Probably not in those early days. Yeah, what years are we? But Sheryl Sandberg joined at the IPO around that IPO period. So it's already a massive company. She's really – Yeah, I'm surprised by this. And she was number 12. And so at number 12, like you're making, you know, never think again money. I think she was 12. Don't, I mean, correct me if I'm wrong on the 12, but she was there early. But like those early Facebook employees, their grandchildren and grandchildren's grandchildren are sick. Right, right. So I'm just saying, you know, coming from someone writing this book, not who's not writing it likely for money.
44:55Well, Google, Jules. Can you Google that? What would Sarah Wynn Williams? Why is she writing it? Sounds like she's writing it to. No, not why is she writing it? Maybe she wasn't. No, I'm saying in terms of why to get her point across as opposed to make money. Well, maybe I'm wrong on her money. maybe I'm wrong maybe she wasn't number 12 but I believe she was early because they had a team retreat and she was like we were still small enough we all fit around a conference table wow
45:28her points of view though are fast I didn't understand that has Cheryl responded I didn't understand she was going to be talking about this from a motherhood standpoint so that's been an added layer that I found very fascinating like one day her shirt was drenched because she didn't have a breast pump um has shara responded to this i feel like it's pretty worthy of response she wasn't so sarah wasn't an early numbered employee to facebook she was an early number employee to her to the policy team that she's on okay um sandberg has notably stayed quiet she has not issued a personal response and the silent in the silence has been commented on widely
46:25we need a response i met her once cheryl yeah how was she she was really nice people rave about her People rave about her. So I'm looking for the response. Well, Sarah says she's electric. People love her. She also can just switch on a dime. Like she said, she can snap and she has these outbursts of anger. But she also acknowledges like she was great. And she's a force and she's decisive and she's prepared. But also she can completely lash out and like drill somebody. Because Sheryl Sandberg is a lean in. Yeah. That's what she said is so crazy. and she took her while she was pregnant. She took Sarah on her international press tour because it was a good look.
47:10My brain's a little, my brain's breaking. Yeah, this is very much so a sort of response to Lean In. Like, Lean In is referenced a lot. Like, that's actually, it was a great book, but that's not the culture that's happening, and Sarah thought it would be. Wow. When the day is a whirlwind of nanny share playdates and now dance for the Bubberator, The last thing I want to do at the end of it is fight over dinner. And that's where my secret weapon comes in, you guys, Goodles. Think of your favorite mac and cheese, but leveled up in every way. Goodles has all the comforting, delicious favors you want, and it's packed with more protein, more fiber, and essential vitamins and minerals.
47:48On the days I'm in a rush and need something quick, the Goodles microwavable cups are truly a lifesaver. You pop one in the microwave, it's done in minutes, and there's no dishes to clean. And they also just released some new shapes with the most fun names ever. Quail again, teeny lazini, very toddler friendly, you guys. And it turns dinner into an actual experience. It's clean label purity award certified, so I feel great about serving it to the whole family. And they have vegan and gluten-free options, which means I can even have it too because, you know, I can't do dairy. So if you haven't tried Goodles yet, now is the time.
48:23I know you guys are going to love it. Pick up Goodall's mac and cheese and pasta on your next shopping trip. Available nationwide at Target, Walmart, and many other major retail grocery stores and retailers nationwide. This book, it's so fascinating, and I'm not even halfway through. The other side to it, right, is like how many people work for her over this time? Thousands? Probably. Yeah. And so if you have thousands of people that work for you, there inherently is going to be some percentage of them that have negative things to say. Yeah, I think what's interesting about this woman is she was close to it and her perspective on having the baby doing the birth process while she was there, while Cheryl was the one who wrote Lean In, I do think it makes it for an interesting case study.
49:13Yeah, totally. So nonetheless, I highly, highly, highly recommend the book. Every chapter is, it's good. It's good. Okay, so now you're going to give us the good for AI. Okay. Moderna. We know this company. Moderna? They gave the vaccines? Yes. See their stock? No. Up around 200%. Okay. Okay. Do you know why? No. Do we see this? Mm-mm. So they just got very positive results for a cancer vaccine. now this is where i want to see ai when noma so i believe it was their phase 2b trial they're now in their phase 3 trial if the data from the phase 3 trial is successful then it'll go to fda for fda approval and it could be implemented in uh as early as 2027 so basically what they do to like put it in non-science terms is uh they'll take the tissue from your tumor they'll have ai analyze it and then it'll come up with a custom vaccine to help prevent the cancer from returning and spread to other parts of your body unbelievable yeah like this is where i want to see AI put its efforts is things like this.
50:43This is incredible. It's life-changing. Gives me chills to hear about. Yeah. Yeah. So this was, yeah, really, really positive news on the health front. Jules, what are you learning? I'm just thinking I love individualized medicine. I think it's awesome. And I think it's cool that AI can support that. Yeah. This is huge. Yeah. It just comes up with a recipe so that way your immune system can best protect itself so ai wouldn't so so moderna wouldn't be able to do this if ai didn't exist like the ai the ai while ai overwhelms me as an individual right seeing ai you know further modern medicine i'm all for like that's that's exactly where i want to see ai put its effort so i love i love this story um okay then also one thing that i want to discuss i think this is a good one it's like things we dm'd it's introducing off print the physical magazine made from everything you save for later but never actually go back to read find online read offline print media so can you explain this to us like how it works i love this idea like love love love this idea a 10 out of 10.
52:01Okay. Do you not just like bookmark different articles to read throughout the day? Yeah, I'm like, I'll go back and read that a little. Or I'll save it for when I need to know how to handle teething. Exactly. And so all this does is it takes those saved bookmarks and it prints them into a magazine. So it prints the actual article into a magazine. Yes. And then it mails you the magazine? I would assume so. I didn't get that far. I think it said something like once a month it sends it to you. And so that's where it falls apart. That's my complaint on it. So what they need to do is they need to partner with a printer company like Canon and create a printer that actually is easy to set up with your iPhone or your Android.
52:41And every day you just print it. Oh, so you want it every day you save articles and it prints it for you. I like this at face value. But in terms of actual execution, it feels like there's a gap. And that's what I'd want. I'd want to be able to save it. And then I'd want an email at the end of, you know, every day or end of every week that puts it in a nice, clean PDF. And then I can just click print and it goes to the small little printer that we have in the corner of our house that actually works. And sorry, do you do you also want to add in like since we're, you know, making our own version here?
53:17Would you want to add in a summary to these articles? A hundred percent. I would, too. I'd like a summary summary. Yeah. I'd like a summary, too. and I want it printed I don't want it emailed to me because I want to read the physical copy I want to get off my screen yeah and remove well no and remove the ads off of it yes yes totally I've found that recently because like I look at a lot of articles for the podcast these websites crash my computer every single time because there's so much going on on them i thought it was a me thing no no i thought it was a me thing no it's like any website that has ads for it it's impossible to read them now because it crashes your computer it's too much going on jules so the article i sent on the taylor sheridan getting sued thing yeah i can't i probably can't open it and so it's like it truly is every single like that the reason why i spend so much time on Twitter is because it works so well.
54:20Right. But it is interesting that those websites are going to have to deliver a certain amount of impressions for those ads. I wonder if it still counts as a link click, even if you can't open it, because you're not seeing the ad on that page then. No, but you are just like it jams it. Like what happens to you? Like New York Post is the worst of them. I know exactly what you're talking about there. It's like you open it and then every other tab on your computer doesn't work. It takes so much. I don't know. He probably knows what it's called, but like memory or RAM or whatever. I just love you click it.
54:52There's a seven second, not 30 seconds, seven seconds. This web page is brought to you by here's the advertiser. Yeah. Because the thing as well, the effectiveness of those banner ads is incredibly low. Yeah. So the reason why they have to put so many on there is because what they're charging the brands, the CPMs, are next to nothing. Yeah. You know who does it right? Who? T-Mobile on the airplanes. Jules, I was thinking that. Just give me the little commercial. I agree. The airplanes do it well. I love podcast advertising. Yes. Yes, of course. It's very true. The airplane one, if we could just do that for every website, we would all have a better experience.
55:40Okay. Guys, I think that's it for today. That'll do it. Harrison's done with his coffee, which means we're done with our podcast episode. Nothing else? I feel like we got one other thing. What's going on with the kids? Aww. Okay. So, what's going on with the kids? I don't know if I'm allowed to say this. Okay, let's try. But we've had some bathroom usage. We can leave it at that. Oh, yeah. We can leave it at that. She's really enjoying it. She loves to learn. She loves to learn. She loves to learn. It's like her new, now she's like trying to figure it all out. It was not like intentional or planned, her doing, which is cool.
56:21It was cute. And then, what else? Tate's just in this ultimate learning phase. Well, listen, you've got this one parenting tip on here and it's a Harrison fake segment. It's a hairy bomb. Take it or leave it parenting advice. If you never introduce your kids to something then you never have to take it away. That was not me. That was me. Jules. That was not me. But I think you guys have said that. We have like ice cream never existed. Like I think she thinks ice cream only exists in Canada. Like we don't have it here in Austin. I think she thinks, oh, when I go on the airplane, I can have. But at what point does she start getting introduced to like us going to Zed's on Sunday?
57:06because that is an amazing family experience that she is going to love. I know. And as Tom Pett says, can't enjoy a cup of ice cream, you can't enjoy life. Listen, I'm all for it making it an outing. It's just... But is that at three years old? I think for me so much of it is the importance of her being able to appreciate the experience of what's going on versus handing her some unhealthy food. for the sake of giving her an unhealthy treat. And I feel like she's now starting to grasp the idea of like, do you want to go to the ice cream shop? Well, she's big, big into going to the coffee shop. She's, it's so - Because she knows she gets a croissant when she goes.
57:49Well, but here's the, so the other thing that I'm starting to see pay off is traveling a lot. She now understands airplane. Coffee shopping a lot. She now says, I want to go to the coffee shop. It used to be, and we stopped going to the park so much because it's just so hot outside. But for a while there, she would say, park like sometimes if we're sitting around and like i'm reading and you're on your laptop she'll kind of come into the room coffee shop and it's like 5 p.m but she does like knowing these options she has to go and do things the other adorable thing that um she did is yesterday we like had a good kind of like hour of downtime she's playing in her corner alex was getting her salad ready and I like opened my laptop and she just like walked over, shut my laptop.
58:35I was sitting in the kitchen and goes, no, no. No, no. Dada play. She loves to play right now. I was like, you don't need to tell me twice. Done. So it's. Yeah. Just like very aware of surroundings is I think the big thing. So last night the neighbor, she loves this dad. And he said to her, he had a horse on his, he was drinking like a non-alc beer and it's got a horse on it. And she was just kept pointing out horsey, horsey, horsey. So he said, Tate, are there any other horsies in the room? And there were three horsies in the room. I didn't know about them. We have a horse statue that I'd forgotten about over in the living room.
59:14She ran right over to a horsey. She ran right over to where she's got a stuffed horsey. Horsey. She knew right where it was. And then she went over into her toys and pulled out her plastic horse. She was like horsey. And I was like, she's got her pulse on all the horsies in the room, which I just thought was the cutest thing on the planet. That seems like a great game. It was. Keep you busy. Now, the brain breaker. She couldn't believe this. Was when he pointed out there was an elephant on the painting on the wall, which Bubba did not know. It's been there every day of her life. Very, very exciting moment for Bubba that we have an elephant.
59:50Oh, elephant. Couldn't believe it. so one thing I told him I'm going to do today is ask her again where's the elephant and I think that she'll have a lot of fun talking about the elephant what's going on with Rocky? Rocky is just a good boy yeah he's just a good like well we went to Littlefields yesterday which is the coffee shop here in Austin where kids can also run around and play you know Rocky always stays in the stroller or the pouch at that moment and we brought a blanket and we set it out and like he's just trying to get in the action You know, he's having his wiggle times. His awake periods are getting longer.
1:00:26He's cooing. He's laughing. He's smiling. So he's just drinking his six ounces, sleeping. Big eye contact, maybe. Big eye contact, baby. That's definitely a noticeable difference is how hard he locks in on his eye contact. For a long period of time. He's also starting to look at Alex's nails. Did you see that in your video? Yeah. I forgot about this. Remember? And I think it was just around the same time. And Tate did the same thing. Oh, I got to get the Diet Coke can out and see if he loves that. And just do pink and red nails from now on. Yeah, because he was, he's just, he's just a sweet boy.
1:01:06And he loves to cuddle and hold hands and he's just precious. Good boy. Sleeping six, seven hours. Drinking the Milky. It's going to be six months before we know it. We're going to be on solids. Crazy. crazy. So that's what's going on with us. Um, we love you guys. Thank you for listening. Thank you. Thanks for listening to another episode of two parents. This week on Two Parents & A Podcast, happy Monday!! The headline: we FINALLY did some wedding planning (live on the pod..) and we think we may have unlocked something?! You guys know we've been kicking this can down the road (2 under 2 - FORGIVE US), but one little scheduling switch changed everything (iykyk) and now we're officially in planning mode (send us your ATX dueling piano wedding reviews!!)
Before all that: the BEST fantasy football punishment we've ever seen (18 holes of golf with strangers.. no clubs, no ball, full commitment to every pretend swing hahaha), Harrison's cooking redemption arc (Alex used to WINCE from across the kitchen.. now he cleans as he goes?!), and an etiquette check from Jules: do you need a hostess gift for a baby shower at someone's house? Plus a question back to Jules: should you serve alcohol at your wedding if YOU don't drink?! (the short answer: it depends).
Then a Babylist It Forward follow up: we bought your gifts!! Thank you for sharing your registries with us, this was genuinely so fun 🤍
And the Bicker of the Week (borrowed from TikTok): is peanut butter sweet or savory?! (Harrison made us asked chat which led to…) The AI corner: AI FOR EVIL (?? lol).. ChatGPT is coming to your iMessages, and we get into whether messages should come with a "sent with ChatGPT" label. And AI FOR GOOD: personalized cancer treatment breakthroughs that genuinely made our jaws drop. Plus THINGS WE DMED EACHOTHER: a magazine made of your saved articles?! (We redesigned the whole product live, you're welcome)
For those who are following along with our little podcast book club: Alex is 120 pages deep into Careless People and has THOUGHTS (kind of not spoiler safe so I guess skip if you just started??). And finally, what's going on at home: a potty training update, the great ice cream night debate (is 2 too young for a scoop?!), Tate officially shutting laptops when it's family time ("no no no no”), and Rocky is OFFICIALLY trying to get in on the action.
Hope everyone has a great week :-) LOVE YOU GUYS!
