In short
The hosts announce they’re pregnant again and recap how they found out, how the first trimester has felt (especially nausea/vomiting), and how pregnancy #2 differs from pregnancy #1 while they already have a toddler at home. They also discuss their support system, moving/life context (New York vs Austin), and answer upcoming Q&A-style questions like gender expectations.
Guests
None. The episode is hosted by Alex and Harrison (and they mention Dr. Lisa and Paul Brunson from Married at First Sight only as a Peacock promo, not as guests).
Key claims
They conceived after cycles returned post-weaning; they found out in Vancouver after intense cravings and took confusing tests at London Drugs; early OB scans show rapid development. Alex reports “food poisoning”-like nausea from late morning onward, heightened smell triggers, pregnancy “nose” swelling, sensitive teeth, saliva overproduction, and ongoing vomiting. Harrison handles much of toddler care and meals, making the pregnancy feel more manageable.
Notable examples
Animal farm trip in Vancouver leading to a craving for peanut butter crackers; elevator smell causing immediate vomiting; dairy being a major relief; Austin community/block-party support; New York apartment rejection story.

45Okay. Ready? Okay. Welcome back to another episode of Two Parents and a Podcast, which we might need to reframe or rename to Two Parents and Two Pods. Two Ps and Two Pods. Love it. When did you come up with that? On the fly. Okay. It's a good one. took me a second but i'm with you yeah yeah last night was the bubberator was up early 4 30 a.m she said good morning and we said oh girl um well ladies and gentlemen listeners we are expecting a little babe and we are just thrilled isn't that how you would say it Yeah, it is as exciting as it gets. It's funny because we've been so excited. Do you know what I mean?
41Yeah, it's a really weird dynamic because, you know, I think one of the things we pride ourselves off of with the pod, and I think you with a lot of, you with your content, is like the IRL nature of it and transparency. transparency and you know this is obviously something that um has been kept under wraps because that's you know part of the process behind um that's how it works like that that's one thing is like you don't want you know you you obviously wait there's we've been to so many doctor's appointments um but i think i went back and i looked and i haven't worn like the last thing i wore was i think it was was it august 24th was a denim dress past that it's sweatpants and pajamas but like and i've been posting a lot less content um i had a lot of dms that were like i knew and i'm like yeah well but yeah it is interesting because you don't you know we take the pregnancy test and then it's not like the next day you tell people yeah you have to go into this mode of like okay even with friends sometimes like you don't you don't tell everybody right out of the gates.
51Um, so what, what, go ahead, babe. No. And there's still a long journey ahead. Oh, I mean, absolutely. Absolutely. A long journey ahead. Um, so what's on, on tap for the episode today? I'll just say this. We're thankful to be here in the journey, but yes, a long journey ahead. Um, what's on tap today is we're going to talk about finding out, talk about how long we were trying talk about um what feelings emotions yeah how the first trimester has been um and then and like how being pregnant is the second time with a little baby at home like how that's different than the first time and then we're so we're gonna do just kind of like our little thing today and then we're gonna do a q a episode on monday so i'll put up a question box like Friday or Saturday so you guys can submit questions and then that'll come out on like more specific questions.
46So before we get into it, I'd like to ask a question. Please. I would like you to ask a lot of questions this episode. Okay. I can do that. But it'll kind of help drive me. So first question, it is October of 2025. Yeah. How do you feel today versus January of 2024 when we first found out about Tate? So like what's the mindset today in your first trimester versus the mindset of the first trimester with the first baby? And not the physical side because I'm sure we'll get into that and all the throwing up and nausea. but just like the, the mental, the feet, like the feeling, the outlook. Yeah. So I think I'm technically out or almost out of the first trimester, I guess, give or take.
42Um, but so it's more like March of last time, right? Cause it's not, I was coming out of my mouth. I was like, yeah, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm out kind of, um, I can't do the math on the days, but I like within a day of being out. So I, how it feels this okay so the first time when you're pregnant there's so many unknowns you don't know you don't know what's coming ahead in the pregnancy and you don't know what comes once you have the baby yeah now what's different being pregnant with baby number two is i know what's coming and i'm so excited about that it is the most joyful i'm excited for my heart to grow again however it's a lot harder because you're not napping you know like because of you I do I do get to nap a lot but I don't just the first time the first time you're pregnant you're just in bed you can go off and do whatever you want and I can just sit there and watch a nice little movie with my soup now we've got Bubber being like ball so I'm jumping in I'm jumping in so the lights have been off for the first however many minutes do we need them on no let's leave it do we need a restart or keep it going no keep going okay youtube you're just gonna notice like jules is walking and the lights are turning on now it's everyone's first glimpse of me on camera we will get jules on an episode she will be featured on a sunday episode yeah we'll just keep monday monday i like calling them sunday episodes but uh by the end of the year i think that's the the deadline i'm sorry i i no no it's okay basically here's the thing when you're pregnant with baby number one, you can lay in bed a lot, which is lovely.
23You have no idea what's coming. So it's just a whole path ahead of you of unknowns, which is a little scary, but you're excited with baby number two. You're so excited because you know what you're playing for, but you are not laying in bed all day. You're chasing a little something around. And I've been really sick. I've been throwing up a lot. I threw up this morning and it's like, Bubber's just like ball. yeah and you're like okay yeah there's also the the added component i think when looking back um a year and a half ago versus today of like there were all there's also a lot of other question marks that we had in our lives right like we didn't know where we were going to be living at the time we didn't have really like we were going month to month on on where we're living we didn't know the city we were in a new relationship new relationship that's one thing that we don't go back and talk about enough on this podcast you guys is Harrison and I met oh my gosh our anniversary is coming up November 4th this is when I just need to be very smooth that I've had that marked on the calendar for a very long time and you have my gift and I have your gift do you know obviously I'm kidding how could I ever forget I'm implementing a new rule right now which is every time that i birth a baby i get a present with their months like birthstone on it well we've discussed that you know what i'm very supportive i don't the diamond oh my cousin told me that yesterday i said oh i will make a new rule tomorrow really yeah because they have a baby that was due name they have a baby with the birth month of april we need to fact check that well they're not wrong.
03I don't think. Well, I thought I looked at this and I thought it was a red, a redstone. Bubber is no cancer. I'm like, that's a July. Yeah. April, the diamond, the diamond and Bubber is an, is a emerald. Oh, so I guess, did we think she was May? Bubber's a sapphire. The alternative birthstone is a white sapphire. Oh, no, it's diamond. Okay. Do we want to talk? I feel like we're kind of jumping all over the place here. Do we want to talk about how the first trimester's been or finding out? Let's talk about finding out and then how the first trimester's been. Okay. So, finding out. Okay. Okay.
52So we were, well, let's, let's actually do how, let's do it in chronological order. We, I had my first period cycle was what I thought about last night. It was what I would call it. My cycle came back. Okay. And, um, so I had two cycles and I ordered the ovulation strips and I actually never used an ovulation strip during a time I was ovulating. I, for some reason could never figure that out, but we, so we had two periods and then I missed my third period. So we got pregnant in the third month, I think is how you would say that I'm trying. Um, one way we understand it. And I don't know, like, I do not know.
40This was just my, like, sometimes when I talk to you guys, that's how I talk in my group text to like the neighbor or like my mom group text, which is like, from what Harrison and I understand, while I was pumping and breastfeeding, but didn't have my cycle, the odds of us getting pregnant were a bit lower than when I did have my cycle. Yes. But my cycle didn't come back till month seven, seven or eight. I don't know. And then when my cycle came back, I thought, okay, I probably the odds of me getting pregnant are probably higher now. So I was excited about that. And then the thing about it is whenever we found out I was pregnant, I was also weaning at the time.
18And so I ended up weaning a week and a half early because I was just, I felt so sick and I was like pumping in the morning and night. But I will say this, I, cause one of my friends texted me, she's like, I thought your weaning symptoms were crazy. And here's the thing. When I was posting my symptoms of like, I don't feel good or I'm so tired that was before I found out I was pregnant whenever we found that I was pregnant I did a shift in how I was reporting my weaning journey and I just started saying like I've dropped a pump like I just started getting really factual with it because I didn't think I had an accurate recount of how weaning was going because I realized my body was a bit confused okay like I was weaning and I was pregnant and naturally I think when you're pregnant I think your pump supply probably dries up a bit however again with my cousins I did have a cousin who said she breastfed and was pregnant like the whip that the female body can do incredible things yeah and and um truly incredible things uh and I wreck what were we gonna say just keep going I forgot to talk about how we found out okay well that's kind of a good a good transition into it.
30I was just going to say how like, whatever, what I was going to say, it doesn't matter. Do you want to talk about how we found out now? Yeah, let's do it. So we were in Vancouver and we were having the best time. Like when the weather, Harrison always says this, when the weather is good in Vancouver, it's next to none. Best city in the world. And it's a teaser, right? And it is, it is the best, most beautiful, most fun city in the world. And so we were having the best time there and back to us you know having a newer relationship when we were pregnant with bubs every time I've been to Vancouver or Whistler it was like I was pregnant so I was sick then I was like freshly postpartum you know or I was seven months pregnant and this time that we went I was like feeling good yeah I felt great the first leg of the trip like so good and Harrison's parents would watch Bubber.
22Harrison and I would go out with his sister, brother-in-law's friends. Like we were having a time. Like truly we had so much fun. And then there was like three days left in the trip. And we were, his mom had suggested we go to this animal farm or driving over this like beautiful bridge to the animal farm, having the best day ever. And I say that because I looked at him and I was like, I am so flat. I feel depressed. I feel anxious. And I just, I do not feel good and we like pulled over went to um a gas station because you had a craving for this is what i should have known peanut butter crackers i was like i have to get those ritz peanut butter crackers right now and your guys's gas stations are crazy in canada they didn't have them he brought me out a chomp stick and i was like like every pregnant girl hates me and i was get that out of the why do you have that it was like a mccorsky's yeah sure canadian chomps was grass-fed jerky and then i said harrison it has to be like a chip or something and he went back in and he came back i guess they don't have one in that gas station and i'm like let me go in i go in and i'm like there's not one thing in here i can eat but so at that point i'm thinking this is the effects of weeding.
36Yeah. I'm thinking... Like my brain isn't in pregnancy when you go there because you, you know, it feels like that the symptoms, you can, you can, you can definitely feel them. Do you know if we're being totally honest what I thought? What? So I had taken pregnancy tests the two months prior or one month prior and they were negative. Yes. So I was thinking, okay, this feels a little bit similar to the time I found that I was pregnant, but I didn't want to say it out loud to you in case it was negative, which I wonder if a lot of girls will identify with that. Like I didn't want to take another pregnancy test and it be negative, so I was like, I don't know what it is, but I knew I was going to check.
18Interesting, interesting, interesting. So in my head I was thinking this peanut butter cracker craving is spot on to one other time I've had it, and that's when I was pregnant with Bubber. Yeah, the other reason why I didn't go to pregnancy is because you're, this is a lot of information, but we'll use the adjusted verbiage. Cycle. Your cycles, your first two cycles were, there was a big delay. Yeah, I was 50 days late on the second one. And so. Which is normal when you're regulating. With where things were, it just felt like. Sorry, I wasn't 50 days late. There was 50 days between the two. So it felt like me knowing nothing about how any of this stuff works like it just we were too early for it to like the timing you know what i'm saying yes which is probably why my ovulation trips never happened on a day i was ovulating because they and i asked my ob about this i was like hey my prep my cycle was 52 days later she's like yeah you're just like your body is re-regulating and recalibrating it's totally normal for it to be a regular on your first year back which is probably why i couldn't figure out when I was ovulating.
31Yes. Probably. Makes sense. I keep saying yes, I have no idea. I don't either, but now that you're saying that. It makes sense to me. My yes is not confident, my yes is... Probably. Makes sense. So we get to this, so we leave the gas station, we get to the farm, feels like... Didn't last very long at the farm. One of your favorite things in the world is seeing bubba with animals. I love animals. And we lasted a good 10, 15 minutes at the farm. I was just like, I gotta go. We gotta go. And I was like, I got to go get these peanut butter crackers. I was starving. The farm didn't sell food either.
05No, they did sell food. They sold ice cream. That didn't sound good either. I needed salt. So the CVS equivalent in Canada is called London drugs. So Harrison drives us to a London drug. And I go in. I buy every cracker, every peanut butter and pregnancy tests. But didn't tell me about a pregnancy test. Didn't tell you about this. Get back in the car. We go home. I take the pregnancy test. it's immediately has the same amount of lines the Canadian pregnancy tests are not the same ones in America it's some off-brand pregnancy test where the photo on the front has two lines and so I took the test and I'm looking at it and it's it has two lines and I think surely they didn't put a negative test on the box that's probably what positive means there was no brochure inside of it so I'm googling it and I'm like what is a positive pregnancy test look like for whatever brand it was and it's given me a plus sign but there was no plus sign as the option so I just turned to Harrison I say I think I'm pregnant but I can't figure this test out and he's like when did you get a pregnancy test it was so confusing like I heard I think I'm pregnant and it's like oh okay like amazing that makes a lot of sense and then you're like but I and then you reference the stick and I was like like when did you get a stick I was like i just got it at london drug is it positive and he comes over and he's looking at it he's like this is positive so then we hugged and he like tackled me on the bed and we were so excited we got bubber because she was out playing with his mom grabbed her gave her a hug told her and i took like a five-hour nap and i was like see ya it was joyous it was so joyous it was definitely it was a different way of finding out yeah but it was so like we you know you have to because now we've digested it, right?
55But you got to put yourself back in that moment. And we were so excited. And when I tell you, I was like three and a half weeks or four weeks pregnant. Well, I was three weeks, I guess. Cause then we came back and I was like, I got to go to the doctor. And we went to the doctor for the first time. She was like, sweetheart, you just have like a sack she was like you she was like oh you are early she was like but you don't even have like the baby's not even in there yet and Harrison was like so is she pregnant she was like she is pregnant but she is like four weeks so we've gone back in every two weeks since then yeah it's now we have arms and legs and a head and last time there was like the little brain in there it's pretty wild what what's unbelievable to see what was cool this time like versus last time that we didn't get to see last time because last time as we all know we went to a pediatrician to the ob this time went to the ob this time but we've since we found out so early last time we didn't get our first scan till probably eight weeks but this time we went at four six eight ten twelve blah blah blah right and we really got to watch like this last time the last two times there was the arms the legs moving around the brain the she called it the butterfly and they're like that was pretty cool to see it develop like that very cool i do want to add like a minor hedge on these weeks that like i do think we may directionally be off one or two weeks and so i don't want to i don't of us are the best with dates jules can confirm never been good with dates okay um but directionally yes sorry was that necessary okay cool um yeah it's been and i'm doing april i guess that's probably the other necessary part middle of april it's um it's been unbelievable to watch and it's been unbelievable to obviously see the growth, but going through it, having Bubba there as well has just been an added joyous element.
08I think Bubba knows. I think that obviously, I don't know if we've said this yet, but we do feel very, very fortunate to be in this position again and you know we recognize what a blessing uh blessing this is and we don't want you know that isn't that is not lost on on us no truly truly and this happened with the first one too like filled with so much gratitude um and it is a blessing yeah that's that was my caption i was like another blessing on the way because that is how i do feel um well and i have to say like candidly like I'm still nervous of course as I'm as I'm as am I like a hundred percent because you know we we we understand understand the risks but I I say this I say I was thinking about it the other day talking to one of my friends and I said you know I'm gonna let myself feel the joy even though I feel scared like I am just I'm gonna allow myself to feel the joy but all cautiously optimistic um and just like grateful and I do I don't talk about this stuff very like a ton but But I do just kind of like the plan is higher than me is how I view it.
17So it's out of my control. I'm going to do everything on my side. But for like, I just think it's the biggest blessing that we're even this far. Yes. You guys, it's fall. With that being said, let's talk about the first trimester and I do want to say I have rough pregnancies right and I think two things can be true at the same time one I'm very grateful to be here but two it's hard yes I'm throwing up more this time than last time and I have a lot of DMs which are saying I hope you're not as sick as last time and I'm like somehow I'm sicker then yes I mean last time I recall a ton of gagging and very little throwing up.
28Lots of spit, like lots of saliva-ing or what is that called? Acid or flim? Yeah. Where's this time like - Bile, thank you. That's the word. We, there is a lot, a lot of throwing up. I feel for you every day. I don't recall the last day that you have not thrown up. This morning, Harrison was like, you're going to kick today's butt. And I was like, no, today's going to kick my butt. You're doing amazing. But I made myself get out of the room. I was like, get up and get out. Um, and so where I got to give it to Harrison is like, you have had, but before we talk about me, I think, I think there's a lot more to like talk to on, on your day to day and the symptoms you're dealing with.
10Well, I made a list early on for this moment. Amazing. So I think I was like, you, you, like I'm watching you and every day like is a fight and I get why it's a fight. you were literally growing a human um but i think it's important to talk about because it's so different for everyone and and yeah so this is week six to eight of being pregnant ways i knew i was pregnant okay because you're not fully like my sick symptoms haven't really kicked in yet but these are things i wrote down that rang true from the first time as well as the second time number one my nose grew and you cannot convince me otherwise and it's ever so slightly but i notice it like i noticed it when i put the camera back and my nose grew the first time and then it shrunk back i know that's crazy but i noticed it i thought you meant i thought that was like a metaphor like i thought that was more of a symbol for your heightened sense of smell no my nose physically grew in size no that's like a thing it's a thing pregnancy nose yes yeah so i've had pregnancy nose for 36 years i i actually had no idea that was a thing and it's ever so slightly but i notice it i think it's just like swelling yeah not like i did not notice but but does is that not also a good a good foray to build off of your heightened sense of smell but if you don't if you recall Pregnancy number one, the smell of you, your deodorant, made me want to throw up.
43And then it went away in the second trimester. I love the smell of you right now. But do you know why that is? Why? You switched deodorants to mine. Women's deodorant. I use your deodorant. Women's deodorant. You ordered the three pack and I took two of the three. The only thing that can get you about me is if you eat a sandwich and then come and talk to me. Yes. Cannot handle that. Okay, number two. Well, generally the food on my breath, if it is going, what I've noticed, If the food on my breath goes against like your cravings, then that can unfortunately lead to you hitting the trash can. Yeah, it's not good.
18Okay, number two, my teeth were so sensitive. I could hardly brush my teeth or drink anything besides lukewarm water. That's gone now too. Okay. Number three, I became a clean freak again. Don't know if you noticed, but I was like sanitizing again. and this happened the first time, but like the bathroom sink has to be like so clean. You have to rinse it out. If you're brushing your teeth, you have to leave the water running. That has not faded. I was told to leave the water running right before we recorded. I think it's crazy to raw dog like just like spitting your, sometimes you don't wash it out at all.
56You got to wash out the sink a bit. You don't have to, but it's good to do that. No coffee. I can obviously have it now, but at the time like could not get near coffee one time I had an egg burrito and a coffee from Swedish Hill and all the neighbors watched me throw it up on my way inside the house my hand goes numb that's gone away now too but this happened with the first pregnancy just random times throughout the day I would lose feeling in my hands and then the last one is overproduction of saliva which is still happening but I've combated it with gum so I eat the extra the green spearmint gum and that's really helped that gum feels like a real new one on pregnancy two if it's pregnancy one you know why it's probably the saliva production is happening why it's preparing you to throw up oh dr minich as someone that used to throw up from drinking a little too much I experienced that every time before Jules nori is a listener nori's a listener nori told us congratulations she knows and i replied oh she said alex liked my comment and i replied is that her is that you it was me i saw it come through and i thought oh my gosh and i said thank you nori yeah let it be clear alex runs her own socials yes let it be clear i'm the one commenting back to you um i also think this saliva is your your digestion slows down i don't know that you lost me there so there's like a cap i can eat at a time but yeah Oh, Jules, before I throw up, I'm just spitting in the trash.
30I Googled it once and that's what it is. Ugh. Yep. So those are like the six to eight week little things I noticed. Okay. So now fast forward. Unfortunately, I'm not turning the corner quite yet. So now we're talking weeks eight to 12. Generally. Yes. Thematically. Yes, yes, yes. Directionally. Thematically, directionally. We're talking weeks eight to 12 and beyond. I haven't turned a corner yet. I do hope every day that I will. obviously, but I hoped the first time that I would turn a corner and never really did. And that's okay. Maybe my body doesn't love being pregnant. Some people when they're pregnant, like if they have arthritis or joint pain or back pain, like it goes away while they're pregnant.
12And they say they feel better pregnant than they do not pregnant. I think I just have the opposite reaction except for dairy. I can eat dairy again. This has been the biggest, this has been a very big win. Huge win. As the preparer of food to cook with dairy it just it opens up the world of options and it makes the food so much better. Chicken parm you can get the eggs to cheese on everything. Cheese is on is on everything. I had cereal. That's real milk in my post. I feel like there's some more like I feel like we haven't fully like nailed Let me describe. what like what a day of the past you know two months has been or what a day in the past month has been for you so I haven't described this to you let me describe it to you now what it feels like morning sickness for me does not happen in the morning it comes on around 11 or 12 and what it feels like is you drank four to five bottles of wine the night before and then switch to tequila and then slept two hours.
24Coupled with you have the flu temperature wise. I am cold and hot. And then the last thing is this, you know, when you have food poisoning and let's say you throw up every two hours, but the 10 minutes before you throw up is the worst. And it's right here. And you're like, I'm about to throw up. You have that all day and you don't always throw it up. So you're kind of walking. So around 10, 11 to noon, I'm waiting on that feeling to just come. and then it just kind of hangs out. More isn't better when it comes to your face, which is where Merit Beauty comes in, you guys. Merit Beauty flips the script with the less is more style approach, which as we talk about all the time is truly timeless and so in style.

43No makeup day? No problem. Yeah, I think I, yeah, sorry. I have explained to you. I always just tell you I have food poisoning.
21And, uh, and that's been like the theme of the past four weeks. Yeah, I would say that's the theme of the past four weeks. And so with that, and listen, I say it doesn't come on in the morning. It's there in the morning until I get up out of bed. And so from about seven 30 to 11 or 12, I'm feeling good. Like our neighbor, whenever they come over and drop Winnie off, he always says, how we feeling? I say, we're great right now. It's coming. And then when he picks up, when he looks at me and he's like, oh my gosh. So where, where I've got to just give it to you completely is you have made this time so easy on me.
00Like Harrison has completely put the team on his back. So it's, it's not like I'm pregnant the first time without Bubber at all, but you, she cries in the morning he wakes up he immediately goes and gets her he's on bottle duty he cuddles her he feeds her he gives her her eggs like he takes over completely and then at night he does the exact same thing like you are on bed duty and because of this she is attached to you dad that she'll be looking right at me like dad that and i'll be like oh but you have you've made me every meal i'll be like pancakes sound good and he will whip spaghetti chicken parm he whips up every meal He brings it to me with the best presentation.
41Like you have done five star taking care of me. So I like, I want to say I couldn't do it without you. I could do it obviously. Cause like you just do things. I don't want to, I don't want to do it without you because you have been incredible. Well, thank you. And I think you're probably really tired. But the team is on your back, right? Like we, you are growing a human. And so anything that I can do to make your life easier is like I jump at the opportunity to do so. And I do. I do want to talk about it's hard on the guy, too, like because I'm out. Your teammates like I'm done. And obviously different, different for everyone because pregnancy affects everyone.
36different people have different you know kind of work schedules and so on and so forth but i'm i'm proud of how um we're collectively no i don't want to make this about me i want to make it about you you're like this is it it truly everything i'm doing is so small in the grand scheme of the having you just you got to take your thank you though because okay you're harrison you're doing a lot. Thank you. And what I'll say is, is the bright, it is nice. Like the bonding that's happened between Bubz and I over those past four weeks has, has been, um, has been a very special time. Uh, I do want to add one thing about the observation of you as, um, of your symptoms okay the cons um a consistent state of nausea like yes i and it feels like it can come out of nowhere but then i'll just like look at you and you'll be like um you'll be you know hunched over like on maybe on the in the car on the side of on the bed and like you just get so nauseous and it's like it it really is both crazy and sad um and sad to see and then the other thing i'd add which i kind of touched on before but like your ability to the way smell affects you like we walked into an elevator and an elevator that smelled like a nice normal elevator and she just threw up and so like the way the the wrong scent can just completely rock your your senses is is is pretty wild to see it's making me nervous to go out in public because the first time when it happened the first pregnancy the one food there was two foods I couldn't eat anything from chick-fil-a made me throw up and then ribs or brisket and I ate those a couple of times because I just always they sounded good so I'd always convince myself I could have them but one time I threw up in the hotel hall but I was very close to the room so I could always make it to my destination this time I'm unable to control it and I found myself throwing up in public like a lot more than I ever want to and that's making me nervous it makes me want to stay home a lot like I really just want to stay home yeah well it's I mean it's really fucking savage that you're but it's all worth it i say all this like we're recounting it like we're so excited to get this baby here and this is the process to do it so like i'm i'm completely fine with that i just i do want to talk about it honestly because i think a lot of women go through the first trimester and get their butts kicked yeah yeah and and the joy is far outweighs any sickness um i'm gonna do it again and again you know how does it compare and i feel weird obviously i know these answers so i'm asking these because i think the viewer would find them interesting he's being a podcast co-host not a fiance um i i don't like the word either thank you for reading my mind i said it in an email I was like, I'm going to have my fiancee too.
58What was I going to say? Husband? Yeah, just lie. Yes. And then there can be the rumor mill. Are they married? Are they not married? You can pull the court county records apparently. I did see that. Who did that? Somebody pulled some county records. You told. They won't want us to say their name. Oh. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You told a story about it. How does this first trimester, how do you remember it compared to the last first trimester so this is the thing the second you have your and okay everyone told me the moment you have your baby you will forget how hard pregnancy was and how hard birth was and that happened to me I had her and I was looking at this little bundle of joy and I was like the first trimester wasn't that bad my epidural didn't work the birth it wasn't even that bad.
49I was like throwing up every contraction, sweating, crying and screaming. And I was like, that really wasn't that bad. So now I'm back in the first trimester and I'm like, this is so much worse than last time. And my friends are like, no girl, I think you forgot how bad last time was. So I think your, your mind as women erases how bad it was, which is why we do it again and again. This first trimester as the observer feels like almost an apples to apples experience that you're like as as the observer that that you had the first time around with the major change being the throwing up. But I'm just as nauseous and in bed.
Read the full transcript
31Just as nauseous in bed. it feels emotionally things are are very similar the food craving swings of like wanting one thing 15 minutes and then 15 minutes later that thing you never wanting to like no look at again I'm back on my steak and mashed potatoes though it started yesterday yes I noticed how many of those did I order in New York probably for three weeks straight did I doordash but like I guess what I am somewhat surprised by is like last first trimester was all on the go and this first trimester is so settled and like we're we're eating at home and we're cooking so many of the most of the meals but let's explain that because I think one thing you and I do is we we glaze over the past and so that for some new listeners could be confusing so Harrison and I lived in New York last first trimester and I moved to Austin, not I, but we moved to Austin, but I transferred to Austin when I was seven months pregnant.
33And so when living in New York, we lived in like a small apartment. We ate out a ton cause we didn't want to cook at home. Going to the grocery store in New York is just different. Like you only buy what you can carry, um, and carry a long way. So you're not really buying that much. And then for two months we traveled around and we tried out different cities because we knew we didn't want to have bubber in new york so then we landed on austin and so for the last two months we were settled at our house but we didn't own our house yet now we own our house we've redone our house like our bedroom i love we cook all of our meals at home so this pregnancy is a lot more stable yeah in that regard um yeah we thought we always thought eating out so much the first time i was like that that's why i was so sick it was all the oils no it had nothing to do with it um i want to tell a random story okay so last night we had a block party and uh i didn't go they shut down this little half street and the fire department comes by and hangs out and all the kids go in the fire truck and uh it's a really like fun family oriented thing last year when we went um uh bubber was like newly born in her stroller so it was really cool like the year on year difference um and i i met the the people that are finishing that new house oh you did yeah oh cool and she was um she was like how'd you end up on Austin and it reminded me of the story that the only reason why we are here is because we got turned down from that apartment in Soho and had that apartment had we been accepted to that apartment in Soho we would not be here so the quick story is um Alex we uh so the lease the uh Lisa New York was up we were looking for a new place we needed a place that you know could fit obviously Bub's um hopefully a third room for you know other future child guests whatever and the market was just so limited uh for where we wanted to live and the type of place we wanted to live and we finally found a place the sickest loved it in the heart of Soho loved it I truly loved it and we applied we got um i think we had to do eight reference letters and uh the co-op shut us down yeah and then i proceeded for about four weeks maybe more to try and work with them to reconsider us and had we signed that lease we i can't imagine our life we just would not be in We would be living a life in New York.
30Magnetic Me has saved Harrison and I so much time when it comes to getting Tate dressed because we can change her so quickly. And those extra few minutes, you guys, they add up. I always say changing a baby is like changing a cat. And as you now know, we are entering back into the newborn stage shortly. And we are going to be stacked with Magnetic Me because they are the best when it comes to changing babies. I seriously love Magnetic Me's clothing for Tate and all of her friends. It's my favorite gift to give. With the easy-to-use magnetic closures, changing time has never been so quick, you guys.
05There are no zippers. There are no buttons. And the best part is the patterns are so cute. She's been wearing this balloon one lately, and it glows in the dark. It is truly precious. If you haven't ordered Magnetic Me yet, now is the time. I know you will absolutely love them. If you're a parent or if you're shopping for a parent because it is such a great gift, go to magneticme.com. And new customers will get 15 % off. Don't wait. That's magneticme.com. Hey, it's Kelly Rowland. You may not know this, but I have eczema. So I get how it can steal your time. But why let eczema take over when you can talk to your doctor about EBCLIS?
43EbGliss Lubrikizumab LBKZ, a 250 milligram per two milliliter injection, is a prescription medicine used to treat adults and children 12 years of age and older who weigh at least 88 pounds or 40 kilograms with moderate to severe eczema. Also called atopic dermatitis that is not well controlled with prescription therapies used on the skin or topicals or who cannot use topical therapies, EbGliss can be used with or without topical corticosteroids. Don't use if you are allergic to EbGliss. Allergic reactions can occur that can be severe. Eye problems can occur. Tell your doctor if you have new or worsening eye problems.
14You should not receive a live vaccine when treated with EpGliss. Before starting EpGliss, tell your doctor if you have a parasitic infection. Paid partnership with Lilly. Respect your time. Ask your doctor about EpGliss and visit epgliss.com or call 1-800-LILLY-RX or 1-800-545-5979. And the guy ended up calling you back once we had moved, didn't he? And he was like, you know what? You can have the apartment. and we were like dude no yeah we are so far gone it is unbelievable how different life would be had that landlord accepted us do you know what i think about now that you're saying that is is what would be so different about it is every morning because when you first have your baby like you go on walks a lot right and we would get the stroller we would put it in the elevator we would take it down we would walk through our lobby out onto the cobblestone streets of soho and we would push her around there.
08Yeah, and to me, the big thing that jumps out is like the community and the support that we have here and just like how strong that community is and how strong that support is. And I think there's very few cities in the world that, actually, let me take that back. I think doing that in New York would be very, very, very hard. And like going to that block party and seeing neighbors of all ages, many with kids our age, many having kids either graduated or out of the house. Like that was just, it was like, man, we're in a great spot. Austin's great because it's a lot of transplants. So it's a lot of LA, New York.
50It's international. And a lot of people have moved here and they're having kids. So it's really, really fun. But here's the thing too. Some New York moms, a lot of New York, they make it, the motherhood is so chic. they're on the subway like it's awesome for them it just it wouldn't it's not conducive to our lifestyle yes and our view was if we were going to stay in new york we wanted to stay in manhattan yeah and we didn't want to do the suburbs of new york the mindset was if we're going to do the suburbs of new york we'll move we'll move and and try and do something try and find our our austin which obviously we we found um and that was part of it is like life in the city is so hard like it may sound ridiculous to someone that like we were having issues finding a three-bedroom apartment in new york like it was that hard like we were looking and the apartments were just like there's no natural light or there was no they were and they were tiny or a door or and they You had to walk up seven flights of stairs.
57Remember that one? They're crazy expensive.
01And yeah, you literally get rejected. Just rejected. Yeah. I mean, they fly off the market there. It's wild. We landed where we were supposed to. Yeah. Shout out the neighbors. Shout out the neighbors. Shout out our whole street. We would never know them. That would be wild. I can't imagine. They are just our village. um him and i one transition that's occurred jules is trying to get me to move on no we've now started phone calling we like that now him and i there's like probably six or seven phone calls a day that are happening just about things you're a phone caller he's a big phone call yeah the neighbor t and i we never used to be phone callers we would be more of just walk over and this and now a lot of tons of phone calls between the two of them hey what's up nothing yeah it's funny you guys are funny yeah yeah I love those neighbors okay so we're having a baby yeah we're having a baby we're gonna do I don't even want to do the thing like the things we DMed feels weird how long have we been well what else should we talk about on this episode what have we missed I got about four oh boy versus girl oh let's do that we'll talk I don't want to do I want this one to be a non things we DM like special.
20I like that. So we'll talk. Let's talk. Let's do it. Let's discuss. There's a lot we miss. People can submit their questions. I already know one question and we're not going to do it now. But people are going to ask, how does this affect the timeline of you guys getting married? Oh, that's a good question. Yeah. I'm going to guess some other ones. Maybe we're already married. Again, check the courthouse document. I haven't had the energy. You know, TikTok was just like so confused by my post. I thought my post was really obvious. I think it's just the order in which people were receiving it in their algorithm.
58Okay. Yeah. I kind of, I understand how to announce things on Instagram now. People liked it. Okay. TikTok is still a little bit confusing to me. Alex is so nonchalant. We love it. We're having a baby. I don't feel very. It's a result of like, this is the best we can do. Okay. So gender, do you care if we're having a girl or a boy? Definitely do not care. And it's something that like I always heard friends say when they were having kids or had kids, like all they want is a happy, healthy baby. And like that lands more than any statement ever could. And that is obviously the priority one through pregnancy and beyond.
45Yeah. I think like the added color to it is, and this is like a flip of the script, where I think for baby number one, my mindset was very much like, and I think I said this on the pod beforehand. And part of having a boy and the beauty of that for me would have been like I can really visualize what that relationship would look like because I was very fortunate where it would all I would want to do is emulate the relationship that I've had with my dad and just be the same dad that he was to me. Yeah. And, you know, the way he took interest in sports and helped me with school and extracurriculars and the care and the love like he laid out the perfect playbook on how to be a dad to a son.
37and while you know him and my sister have an amazing relationship and i'm sure many would argue better than mine uh like i didn't experience that firsthand i saw it from the sidelines but now like i have that direct relationship with bubs i really understand being a girl dad that like i'll need to rewire my brain on okay like get getting into if it's a boy how what that looks like yeah if it is a boy but either way like super excited um and um yeah like i see a world of four girls um all running around creating havoc um and that's so much easier for me to imagine than like two boys and two girls right or like imagine if it's bob and three boys wow that would be because right now we're in such girl zone we did a lot of pink wallpaper and a lot of pink chairs we really we really identified like we adopted i have a pink wardrobe and tate's gonna be the eldest daughter it's a big thing right now on the internet what what why because of taylor because of taylor t swift wrote the eldest daughter song it's just like birth order and birth order and gender like that determines a lot about your personality eldest daughter is like a type of personality so you're just like a fucking you're yeah you're a boss boss yeah love it i think she is a boss bah that's her new thing bah she's a baby now she has our neighbor gave her a baby doll and she got puppy puppy this morning lots of puppies and i said it's a baby you're gonna have a baby bubber now i will say this about the gender a girl would be a lot more seamless we've got the clothes like we are set up for a girl yes a boy because i it's like holidays for me i like to add in the color like i like pink for the girls and i like blue for the boys um i'm gonna have to contact american vintage to get all blue sweaters of my pink sweaters if it's a boy but if it's a girl we've got it i know my shops for who if we have a boy who i'm asking where they buy all their outfits is alex and laura yeah they're doing a very good job they dress that boy every time i see him i'm like that's adorable so i gotta ask them Yeah, they've nailed Ace's fits for sure.
59I got a new, so do you know what I'm going to let myself do? I'll do a haul. I'll do a TikTok haul of this. I opened the floodgates. For Bubber, what I had been doing is no online shopping. Like I was, I wouldn't buy her a lot of clothes. Then Halloween rolled around and I said, if you see something and you like it, you can order it. So I've probably ordered her 12 to 15 outfits on Instagram ads and TikTok ads. And I've just let myself buy them all. I just said, I'm not shopping for me. And so Bubber's outfits have arrived and like they're all Halloween themed and they are so cute. Okay. And I'm going to check them out.
31I got minorly distracted on that rant. The boy cannot walk into them. Well, you know, if we were going to do things we DMed, the text is that I got in said, I would love if they just stopped food service on planes. Like, why the fuck do people need to eat breakfast on three hour flight at 11 a.m.? We can all guess who that came from. Who?
56he's flying a uh we have a work thing going on i have to disagree i love the food service on planes did you see the jennifer aniston emirates commercial she's in her robe and she goes up to the flight attendant she's like where are the showers and they're like we don't have showers and she's not on an emirates flight but then she wakes up and she actually is on an emirates flight and she goes up to the pilot she's like how do we keep flying this plane around because the planes are so nice she wanted to stay on the flight i've never been on an i would love to somehow go um this is now going to turn into a normal thursday episode because what i'd love to do is i'd love to talk about the uh saudi comedy festival on plane did you guys not see this no oh this was very very interesting but i feel like this is probably where we in the episode okay okay all right we won't derail ourselves unless there's anything else that we need to address no i think that we'll address it all in the q a um but this was a fun like recount i'm so excited to have now told you guys i love like bringing people up to speed yeah yeah it it um it's super exciting and uh both in the reality of of what lies ahead and being able to talk about it.
21Yeah. I'm going to go home and take my nail polish off. I can't wait. I did this last pregnancy. I ordered the at-home remover. Take it off and I never looked back. Oh my God. There's so many things we didn't talk about. Like the Alex's gives on her being pregnant. Gives? Oh. Talk about it. Gives? Next week. What does it give? Like your blue light glasses. Oh. Dairy. That's why I posted that video. I knew I was going to announce and I was carrying Cheetos and cottage cheese and I said, whatever. I'm putting them in the video. All right. We love you guys. Thank you for listening. Thanks for listening to another episode of two parents in a podcast powered by just media house.
