In short
Sean Morrison (Cardiff/Swindon/loan-era footballer) recounts “The Leaked Video,” a back-and-forth abusive/banter clip filmed after a called-off match, plus how Neil Warnock handled the fallout. He also shares career background: youth-to-first-team rise at Swindon, a disastrous debut loan at Southend, later loans/club moves, and memorable team culture moments (including a fire-extinguisher incident).
Guest(s) and backgrounds
The episode features Sean Morrison as the main guest. Other speakers include “Richard/Richie” and “Chris” (hosts/regulars) and football figures referenced by Sean: Neil Warnock (manager), Craig Bryson (Derby loanee), Paul Trollope (Swindon manager), Russell Slade (previous manager), and Swindon youth/first-team staff like Maurice Malpass and Paul Bowden. No additional named co-guests appear in the transcript beyond Sean.
Key claims
- The video started as friendly derby banter after a match was called off, escalated as more clips were exchanged in a group chat, and was later released publicly.
- Warnock “protected the group,” handled the press calmly, and buried the issue internally.
- Sean admits he “took a stray” in the video, hurting Shaq, but says it wasn’t meant to be deep.
- Warnock’s arrival “flipped the switch” at Cardiff, restoring unity and morale.
Notable examples
- The video spread via group chats and was released around international break, about a week before Cardiff played Derby away.
- Sean’s Swindon debut story: homesick youth player, first-team breakthrough after training opportunities.
- Southend loan debut: sent off (red card) within 30 minutes; later lived with teammate Scott Malone and his chihuahua.
- Fire-extinguisher celebration after a playoff semi-final win: foam sprayed in a bar, near-naked antics, and being told to get up and put clothes on.

3:17Shall we talk about the video? Yeah In the back of the taxi Hi Richard Richie I just want to say mate You're a mug You run Oh give me the ball Give me the ball Oh yeah I really want the ball And I get the ball And I just dribble as fast as I can 10 yards And then just cut back into the other centre half Because I'm shit at football Oh I'm a good centre half I'm good at playing Oh I'm good at football No, you're not. No, you're not. Piercy's up your arse. Alex Pearce, so far up your arse, it's an embarrassment. Shackle, as well, doesn't show his dick. Little insecure cunt. Little tiny dick. Little tiny willy.
3:57And you're all scared of playing us. See you in a couple of weeks, you bell. Yeah. What was it aimed at, the video? The Keyor thing. Yeah, so Keezy, Piercy, and Shax.
4:11Sean Morrison:Shax took some strays. Because it was, it was like, basically how the story goes obviously was, the game got called off. And yeah, fucking shouldn't have been called off. They had a load of players out. We were flying at the time. Game got called off and then we've obviously jumped into the bar after the game's been called off because it's international break. so about seven, eight of us, nine of us fucking just banging down the Guinness and then, yeah, lo and behold, fucking videos going back and forth. Were it all friendly banter? Like, oh, what? Yeah, no, it was, like, it wasn't as deep as it, when it first came out, like, fucking the amount of shit I was getting off, obviously, Derby fans and stuff, but there was nothing, we were sending them to each other.
4:59So we were firing those videos to the Derby boys.
5:02Sean Morrison:They were, because they were all in a pub as well, because they won a game for two weeks now so we were banging video across and then one of the boys would send them across to bradley johnson and then bradley they were in a bar and he was fucking playing to all the boys and they were loving he was like come on give us more give us more hammer hammer keys a bit more hammer hammer someone a bit more so then it was like getting more as the pints going down it was getting more abusive like how can we push it further and we're in the back of the cab and And I'm with Peltz, Lee Peltz and Anthony Pilkington.
5:32Sean Morrison:Pilks is filming. And I'm doing like a take in that. I think I'm like Daniel Day-Lewis or something. I like action and then I'll go and I'll start abusing loads of the boys. And then we were watching. I'll be like, that's not good enough. Let's do another one. I was like, what the fuck's going on? We're going from Derby all the way to Heathrow because we're all flying away for international for a few days with families and stuff. And yeah, fucking doing another video, doing another video, doing another video. And we send them across and they'll fire another one's back. The more it went on, it was just like, how can we try and like make this?
6:02Sean Morrison:How can we make them laugh? Yeah. How can we make them laugh a bit more? How can we just go in a little, you know what football band is like, it gets like personal, they start hammering each other. And I played with Piercy for years, so I know Piercy really well. Keezy played against me years, but Shaq's like, I never met Shaq. So Shaq just was catching strays because I thought, oh, if I say something about someone else that's not even there, they would just be baffled and they'll think it's hilarious. And then it wasn't until we obviously got to Heathrow and stuff And then all the girls getting wind of like the videos have been sent and my missus is fuming.
6:31Sean Morrison:She's like, what are you thinking? Like obviously that's going to come out. I'm like, it'll be fine. Like we send it to the boys, like no, no chance. Week passes, two week passes. And I'm in Cardiff and I'm driving to fucking pick up some decking or something. And just Neil Warnock flashes up on the, on the Bluetooth. And I thought, yeah, here we go. He's out. And then he was like, Moz, what's going on with this video? And I was like, explain the situation to him. He was like, come in my office tomorrow morning. we'll go through it all and stuff. But he was good as gold about it. He didn't fucking, I probably should have been slapped with a two week fine, do you know what I mean?
7:04Sean Morrison:Because it was like important part of the season. Like we're going for promotion and distractions and just silliness really. But... Did he put the video on? In the meeting? That was just under the carpet as quickly as possible. So what do we make of this then? Yeah. So that went like under the carpet straight away. But we had, Craig Bryson was on loan to us at the time and obviously from Derby. And he said to me after about a week, he was like, Moz, there's a lot of people in that group chat where the videos were getting sent. And I was like, what do you mean? He was like, like a hundred. Like players haven't played for Derby for years.
7:38Sean Morrison:Like when they leave the club, they just stay in the group chat. It's not one of them where it's like you leave and you just get kicked out by admin. So then I was like, this could be a problem. Like this might be coming out. And then, yeah. And it got released like on, it must've been International's March. It must've been released about a week before the rescheduled game, when we actually had to play Derby away. Really? It's time to go out. Someone killed me. Yeah, someone sat on that and gone, yeah, we'll get rid of this. So it could have been anyone. It could have just been fired across to a few mates.
8:08Sean Morrison:And then, you know, it's like ball starts rolling. It's all over the place and yeah, just come out. And to be fair, Warnock dealt with it really well. It was such an important part of the season that there was a few things that popped up over that time that stuff didn't even come out. He was really good at protecting the group. Did he just beat them? no we got fucking battered first 45 minutes where we're 1-0 up Callum Patterson scored a volley and we're cruising like don't think they barely had a shot on target and I was thinking in my head oh I'm just thinking we just gotta we just gotta come away now 1-0 like all season we've been so good at keeping clean sheets like barely conceding the goal 1-0 up this is like typical Cardiff City this year and second half's rolled out and we've just absolutely capitulated like badly I think it was 3-1 maybe but it wasn't great it wasn't great it wasn't great at all the thing is with that video like Warnock could have gone mad taking you out of the team done you a month's wages and you're still not coming out of the worst in that video he needs you and O'Shack as well he's proper insecure innit yeah that'll have hurt him wouldn't it yeah all I can say is sorry because he took a stray for no reason he took a stray He took an absolute straight.
9:23Sean Morrison:Just because that would have been on like take eight in the back of the taxi. Do you know what I mean? He wouldn't have been mentioned in any of them. And then even when I probably said it, I probably surprised myself. I was like, where did that come from? Why have I even mentioned him? Do you know what I mean? But I just knew he was like their set of half partners when he was at Derby. So I thought, how can I make Piercy? I can't know what Piercy's like. How can I try and get Piercy to love? How can I try and get Keezy like going? And yeah, it was, yeah, judgment of error. It was a big error.
9:51Sean Morrison:at the time. But, you know, live and you learn. It's all good fun, innit? Yeah. And do you know what? Like, there's so many things that you boys have probably done over the years that don't ever make the light of day and you think, Jesus Christ, that had fucking got out to the public. Like, we'd be in big trouble. It's maybe it's them, wasn't it? Yeah, I don't know. It's clean as a whistle.
10:12No skeletons here. No, no, it's all. Poor Shaq. To be fair, what Warnock did, you were solid really in the press, didn't he, He kind of explained what you said come out, saying it was internal jokes between the lads.
10:27Sean Morrison:Yeah, that's one thing he was really good at. Everyone always asks, why we've got eight promotions? What's the secret? How is he so good at getting teams over the line? He looks after the boys, good man and manager, and training's not great, do you know what I mean? It's not anything. Yeah, he's not flipping Pep Guardiola. He's not a tactician. and his staff that he's with, Blackie and Jeppo, not tacticians, but the three of them just work perfectly together because Jeppo and Warnock are like this team and then Blackie's like the devil on their shoulder. He'll disagree with everything. But somehow they come to the right tactics, formations, whatever it is, and he's just a genius.
11:11Sean Morrison:We used to go out. That season we got promoted. We were going out there and just ruining games of football for good teams, Wolves and Fulham. And we'd come away with wins and he was just good at getting the boys galvanized together. Man management. Yeah, he was top draw. And that's dealing with that situation with the video. He just kind of protected me in a way like, don't be wrong, like I knew I was in the wrong. I knew I potentially messed up the situation for the boys. Like we didn't need any added pressure from the outside. There was enough pressure on us anyway to get promoted. But he managed to deflect that away anyway.
11:47Sean Morrison:And then within, like I said, once that game the return game was over it was kind of just all forgotten about what's it like a first day Neil Warnock walking in trying to change things to be fair we needed it at the time we Paul Trollope had taken over that season and Trolls worked under Russell Slade for I think the whole time Slade was pretty much manager he was one of the coaches amazing coach really really good at what he does wicked guy but then he's once Slade left he kind of just stepped into the role it was kind of it's kind of like a how Carlyph have done it a lot over the years. So Trolls ended up stepping up in his manager.
12:23Sean Morrison:We just never got going in pre-season. Pre-season was, they had a guy called, Ryland who was his like second in charge. He had like a doctor in sports science, pro license. He was like one of two people in the world to have this, a doctor and a pro license. He loved to tell you about it. Super intelligent guy, but super intense. Yeah, it was the worst. I was coming back from an injury at the time. Me and Lee Peltier were coming back from ankle injuries at the time. So I had an op at the end of that season. And then Ryland didn't turn up for the first 10 days of preseason, went to Chamneys in Leicestershire.
12:59Sean Morrison:And then he turned up when we got to Germany. So I'd had about 10 days worth of work with the physios, like getting back up to running and stuff. And then he's turned up to Germany and just gone, now everything they've done all through the summer, 10 days in Chamneys, scrap it like you're starting from day one with me. and I was like, but I'm like two months into my rehab here. Like I'm meant to be two weeks away from like joining back in with training slowly. Wasn't me and Peltz weren't allowed to like integrate with the boys in Germany. So I'd be going for breakfast at seven in the morning. And then when I was leaving breakfast to go and get treatment and then go on the pitch, the boys come in for breakfast, would get treatment, go out, do my hour session.
13:38Sean Morrison:When I was coming in, they were going out and then Peltz was on a different schedule to them and me. It was just bonkers. and then the boys were getting the bollocks run off them. There was no, like, in Germany, we were promised, like, a beer at the end of the trip, so the boys were getting on with it and stuff. Got to the day before, and it was like, oh, the night out's cancelled. You're not going out for beers. We can have a quiz night instead. The boys were like, what? Quiz night? And it's like, no, but no beer. So then we all sat in there after dinner doing this fucking quiz, like, after 10 days of, like, hard graft.
14:11Sean Morrison:season started and we think we after 11 games we had about six points fucking got off to a really really bad start and then trolls end up losing his job and then warner comes in first day back to your question and then walks in the door and the whole place is just like straight away had a 10 minute meeting in the car pay dm room upstairs in the training grounds within 10 minutes like boys first first time you've heard people laughing smiling joking yeah it's a bit of life back in the building and was that something that he did that lifted everything or was it just because it's neil warnock and he's reputed was it was there already a lift do you know what i mean i think there was there was probably like when when we had rumors of him coming in you're a bit nervous as players because you don't really know i've only ever seen videos when he was manager of chef you and when he remember when he's manager qpr and um you see like this guy who can really dig into players and but obviously a guy who can win promotion so excited but also nervous as players and then when he was in the room just his whole demeanor he just relaxed but joyful and just he just got the boys back on side like within a heartbeat and then I just remember from that literally that meeting it was just like flip the switch on the whole club the whole club was just like back together because the fans the fans weren't the fans and the team weren't like one it was like the fans the owner there was a load of shit going on with like the colour of the shirts and all that for years and people not happy with the ownership and how the club was run but Warnock being how he is the genius that he is he kind of buried all that and just swept under the carpet and managed to bring the squad the team everyone at the club that worked at the club together and we managed to do something really special really because that squad that year, we ended up finishing mid-table from bottom of the league after 11 games.
16:02Sean Morrison:And then obviously the following season, we've gone on to get promoted. But the difference in the team once he actually took over was insane. Should we take about the Swindon? Yeah. Maurice Malpass gave you your debut. Is that right? How was he? I loved him. Obviously, when I first signed there as a scholar, it's weird when you become a YT, it's an odd one, especially because I moved away from home. I was a bit homesick at the start. Kind of get thrust into a squad of players. A load of those lads knew each other. So I was quite homesick when I first started. Wasn't really comfortable in my first digs.
16:36And then struggled for the first five,
16:39Sean Morrison:four or five months of being a YT. And then almost, we started playing the Youth Cup around the end of that year. Started finding my feet, started feeling better in what I was doing and stuff. And then I think Sturrock, Sturrock kind of left. Maurice Malapaz come in. And he started like inviting, like a few of the boys getting opportunities to go and train with the first team. So it was like, we need you to come on, come over. And you start training with the first team, doing that, playing the resi games and stuff. And then gilling them away. I think it was the second to last game. It was the last away game in the season.
17:13Sean Morrison:Jarell Eiffel said to me before the game, he was like, ah, my hammy's a bit tight. Like, just be ready. And I was thinking, I was only 17. I was like, fuck you know. Just get through it. Just thinking, then he was just nervous. So the whole time I was sat on the bench, on the bench with a lad who was a year above me, one of my best mates still now, Cal Kennedy. And he was like, mate, you're gonna come on, I'm telling you, you're gonna come on, Jarrell's gonna come off, he doesn't feel right. And I'm like, Cal, mate, shut up, please. Like, I'm nervous anyway, and Gillingham like, and then Jarrell has gone down and someone's turned around and said like, Sean, go warm up.
17:44Sean Morrison:And I was like, fuck, so I'm like 100 miles now up and down the line, doing about 40 doggies. And then, yeah, I've come up to come on, mate's put my number up and it was fucking hilarious, actually. So the away, obviously the home fans are right behind the dugouts. Never played a minute of football, professional football in my life. No one knows who I am, what I am or anything. I've like put my shirt on and some geezer, some Gillingham fans gone, oh no, fucking Morrison, he is shit. And I'm just like, I'm ready to crumble as it is. Like I'm ready to go anyway. Like I'm bricking it, like my heart's being out of my chest.
18:23Sean Morrison:And then he said that and I'm thinking, oh my God, maybe he does know I am. Maybe I am shit, I am shit. And then yeah, that was just the work that I played. I think it was about the 30th minute I came on and then that kind of first 15 minutes of the first half was like fucking whirlwind. And then yeah, ended up making my full debut the following week, Millwall at home. Yeah, ended up having a pretty good game. I just remember just fucking, remember fourth game, just thinking just head and kick everything. Like don't fuck around with it. Don't make any mistakes. Just win your headers, win your tackles.
18:52Sean Morrison:and then the rest is history and then just tried to get through the game. Yeah, end up having an half-decent game and then kind of got bumped up into the first team the following year. But yeah, Morris was wicked with me. Really, really good. It was a shame when he left, really. Went through a bit of a tough period and he ended up losing his job. But he gave a few of the young boys an opportunity, which is all you ask for. That's all you want as a young player and you just want a chance to go and prove yourself. You've done incredible, really, considering you were saying you were homesick. you've signed as a youth player in 2007 and made your debut in 2008 in April May 2008 yeah it was literally the first like few months I was quite a bit of a self-realisation like how can I get myself in the first team how can I I knew how would I do that I was probably 6 '2 at the time physically strong like and I just thought how could I impose how could I get the manager aware of me anyway get me over training so every time I went over and trained I would just try and kick fuck out of people I'd throw myself in front of everything, I'd block things in my face, whatever it took.
19:55Sean Morrison:I remember once in training, I was probably one of my first training sessions, I'm wrestling with Billy Payton, and Bill's got hold of me, and the ball was there, and I just couldn't do anything. So I've just dived headfirst onto the floor as hard as I can just to head the ball out of play for a throw-in, do you know what I mean? I was willing to do anything just to... You're a lunatic. Yeah, but that was how I just thought... You stood out. Because I was never going to be like, fucking get on the ball, bring it. Like that wasn't what Swindon was anyway. That wasn't the kind of team Swindon were.
20:25Sean Morrison:So it was just how, as a 16-year-old or 17-year-old, just how could I impose myself on the team? How could I try and get a debut? How could I try and forge a career? And that kind of carried on once I actually made my debut. It was just, right, before every game, I used to literally say to myself, right, head it, kick it, try and don't make any mistakes. Like I kind of just managed to do that over a pretty long period of time. Don't be wrong, there was some fucking stinking games. I had some bad games for Swindon. I mean, like when you're 17, I remember we played MK Dons away probably the following year.
20:58Sean Morrison:And it was one of the first, it was Danny Wilson was the manager at the time, but I just remember I played away. God, I can't even remember. Aaron Wilbraham maybe up front and Jermaine Easter maybe. It's fucking hard. I've had too many footballs. It's hard to remember, but I just remember having the fucking worst game on planet earth. Like no matter what I did, like balls were coming down and I was trying to like bring him down, going under my foot, trying to head balls, like getting bumped, missing it. And then ended up getting dragged after like, didn't get dragged at halftime, which would have hurt.
21:30Sean Morrison:But then Danny Wilson's put me back on. He's dragged me after like three minutes into the second half, which made it even worse. Do you think that is worse? Yeah. I'd say what is bad. It is, isn't it? It's, mate, honestly. Because he gave me the old like, get back out of the second half. Like, don't worry what's going on. We only 1-0 down or something. We would probably, it's hard to remember what the score was, but he was like, just go back out there and like, put it right. Like just, so I'm out there. You've got three minutes. So I'm out there. First one that's come up, I've got my head to the board.
21:58Sean Morrison:I'm thinking, right, right. Got my first header in, right. What can I do? And then just board goes up and I'm like, and then you can hear the fans in the far end, the MK and the stadium's big in it. But there's a small section of Swindon fans. You were here, it was like, yeah, as I'm like trunding off. And I would have been 18 at the time. it fucking honestly it hurts so much I think anything under 55 minutes yeah our one's playing centre half and I got dragged after 33 all three goals were my fault away at Torquay by the way going back to that long journey on the fella behind the dugout with Gillingham he's probably done that every substitute that's come on for every year that he's been a season ticket holder but when he's done a two you're like oh my god he's crippled us it's his first time he's ever done it honestly on my debut as well I wasn't even expecting to get on and he fucking absolutely murdered me and I was just there like, oh, this couldn't go any worse.
22:48But then got a little assist that game as well.
22:52Sean Morrison:I remember heading one back for Hasniel, Joffrey scored. So yeah, it was fucking mad to think back how many years it was now. But that was the start of it all really. Those last two games literally just, and then because my second year, what would have been my second year scholar was then just with the first team then. So I come in pre-season with the youth team. done the first couple days and then when the first team came back in on like the Friday for testing manager was like what are you doing what have you been in all week for you meant to be in with us and I was like you fucking joke no one want to tell me another four days off I've been with the youth team running up and down hills like Paul Bowden used to drop us at the bottom of this massive hill go up in a van and then we'd have to chase after it doing fire legs and stuff I've been doing that all week ready to soundtrack your summer with Red Bull Summer All Day Play you choose a playlist that fits your summer vibe the best Are you a festival fanatic, a deep end DJ, a road dog, or a trail mixer?

25:03Sean Morrison:was another thing so that pre-season like i was i would probably been an older pro's worst nightmare because I was like the busy bastard there. I was going to say, did any of them, all the pros, not really take to your being? Do you know what? Do you know that? We were so lucky. The young boys that come through at that time, the older pros that were in that chain, the changing was phenomenal. So there'll be so many boys I miss, but like you had Lee Peacock. You remember Peaks? Peaks, what a guy, man. So you had Lee Peacock, you had Craig Easton, Hasnial Joffrey, who was the club captain, John Paul McGovern, wingos Wednesday, great guy um obviously bill billy painter bill would have been like middle probably 25 at the time but like you had like a really good group of boys between like 20 and 25 and then the older boys um who just do you know what they just wanted the young boys to be themselves they encourage you to be a bit chirpy a bit leery yeah they used to love the band and they used to fucking hammer you don't get me wrong like we used to get given it do you know i mean if we stepped out of line then you'd find out about it, but they wanted you to be yourself.
26:07Sean Morrison:They wanted you to come out of your shell and be a chirpy little 17, 18, 19 year old, whatever he was. What happened then when, because you seem to be making steps forward in the first team and then you went on loan to Southend. All right. Yeah. So probably that MK game. I think I'm in a mistake here. Aaron Wilbraham throwing me about. so so they Gordon Greer Danny so Danny signed I played probably I don't know 20 odd games that second year season probably 20 25 games so come to the end of my scholarship I probably played like close to 30 first team games so I was like buzzing I was like first year what would have been my first year pro right this is a big year for me fucking get after it let's try and get to like solidify myself as like a first team player and then Danny Wilson or Gordon Greer was club captain.
27:02Sean Morrison:Gordie was fucking good player, like hell of a player. And then he signed Scotty Cuffbert who he brought down from Scotland with Sy Ferry. So Scooto and Sy came down and Scotty would have been 21, 22. Good player, like center half, same, like just physically good. Like he looked like a player who'd been playing for four or five years, like first team, like when he first come in training, just look, everything looked easy to him. So then in my head, I'm thinking these two are going to be the main, the main stage. and I almost got in my own head a little bit and then I started the season with Gordie.
27:36Sean Morrison:I think the MK game probably would have been the second game of the season and I think that almost put a bit of doubt in Danny Wilson's mind, like is he really ready? So I played a few games and then Scotty and Gordie just started winning games. So then you're sitting there on the bench just waiting for your chance again but it just never came. So Southend literally, me and Billy were meant to be going to the UFC that Friday or Saturday. I think that weekend me and Bill had invited me to go watch the fucking UFC up in Liverpool, Manchester with him. But I got a phone call on the Thursday from my agent.
28:09Sean Morrison:He was across Southend, interested in taking you on loan. And I'm still living in digs. I'm like, where the fuck is Southend? Where is Southend? I've never been to Southend. I don't think looking on fucking maps and stuff. And I'm like, Jesus, miles away. And I'm like, fucking, I'm meant to be going UFC this weekend. Like, just killing my weekend. For fuck's sake. I've not played football for months, you know what I mean? And I've got like this one thing planned. I'm like, fuck's sake, I've never been to watch a UFC like this. Me and Bill up in up north and stuff. So spoke to my parents about it and I was like, look, they're going to put me up in an apartment on my own.
28:45Sean Morrison:I've never lived on my own. Like what am I supposed to do? My mum and dad were like, just go for it. Like it's for a month. Just go and enjoy it. Go see what it's about. See how you are. and they were playing Yeovil away the first game and then I'm obviously Swindon Southend to Yeovil passing Swindon so Friday afternoon after training they literally I'm stood at junction 15 on the M4 Southend team bus is just rocked in I'm just getting on the bus I'm 18 yeah never met anyone do you know anybody no no no Alex Revelle was on loan at Swindon from Southend so Rebs has given them the heads up I think like look after him, he's a good lad or whatever.
29:25Sean Morrison:But I'm jumping on this bus and I'm just like fucking bricking myself. See, I'm quite outgoing and I don't mind them. That's a terrible situation. I've just got on, the doors have opened. Steve Tilson was manager. So I've just got on and he's just sat at the front. He was like, go on then, get yourself at the back. And I'm just like, all right, nice to meet you. And then I'm just like, but then there's like this like first tables with like the French boys and stuff and didn't even look at me. I'm just like, oh yeah, I'm Sean, nice to meet you. and then I'm like making my way up and then like you're scanning aren't you like you're looking for a spare chair you're looking for a spare chair and there's like one right at the back with all like the all the older boys and stuff and I'm like fuck's sake and I'm like gone down I've got my big bag and stuff it's my first day of school about lunch yeah got my massive backpack both straps like straight up and stuff like hiya and then I've literally like threw my bag down and it's like it's like Adam Barrett who one of the best guys as ever by the way like he proper took me under his wing looked after me and i was there alan mccormack and uh fucking hell so many good boys in in at the squad they had a really good squad actually at the time they're really good team but just um yeah steve tilson fancy taking me i went on loan there and then literally i've jumped on the bus and i'm like bricking it fucking hell sat at the back with the boys like chatting away and stuff and i'm just there like nervous wreck got to the hotel ad barrett said like uh next away trip like you'll sing your song and i'll say i'll I'll sing it now.
30:50Sean Morrison:I thought I need to fucking show him here to, he was like, it's night. I was like, I'll sing it tonight. Really I was shitting myself. I was like, fuck it now. It's funny cause I was quite confident with like singing anyway. Not like I'm a good singer, but when I was a first year scholar, Billy Painter used to always to the youth team boys, he used to just be like, give us a song lad. And if you didn't give him a song, he'll just stand there and wait for you to give him a song. So a load of the youth team boys got used to just singing random songs off the top of their head. So I was just like, right, yeah.
31:17Sean Morrison:So I don't really care. Like I know a song, I'll sing a song. So I got up and done my song. And then, yeah, fucking, right, got my song out of the way, buzzing, right? First game tomorrow, like debut. So excited, ring my mum before the game. I done my song, it went really well, boys. It was really nice, la, la, la. And then literally like 30 minutes into my debut, red card, straight off. Oh no. Yeah. It was like a latso. I can't remember who was playing up front for you all the time, but he's like gone through. And as he's kind of crossed my path, I've tried to like move out of the way. Caught his legs last, man.
31:48Sean Morrison:Referees run over. and I'm thinking it's a yellow card all day. Like there's kind of people around me and then he's like pulled out the yellow and then all the yoga players around him like, last man, last man. And I was like, oh, it wasn't last man. No, it wasn't, no, it wasn't, no, it wasn't. And he's just gone, yeah, you are. Oh shit, red card. And I'm like fucking 30 minutes. My mum and dad are over in the stand like, yo, they've driven up from Plymouth. And I was just like, oh. And then I'm just sat in the changes on my own for like 15 minutes before the boys come back in. these boys don't know me I'm just this young lad from Swindon they picked up on the fucking side of the road yesterday and then sang a song giving it big licks the night before and then I've just been sent off after 30 minutes and now I think we end up losing the game 1-0 or something but and then jump back on the coach and I've not said a word I'm just like so embarrassed like fucking I've had one like how could this day be even worse and then they just literally pulled up to Junction 15 again and then I rot off you pop oh no lovely to meet you lads what do you get for that?
32:48One game. So it's not your whole loan done then is it?
32:52Sean Morrison:So I think there was a game on that Tuesday as well at home so then I went up there on the Monday drove up on the Monday missed the game on the Tuesday and then right so I've only missed that one midweek game and I could get rolling with it but yeah man it was worse but I remember Danny Wilson rang me I was in the car when I got to Swindon and he was like what happened? I was like yeah it's going to be really bad Gaffer it couldn't have gone any worse like the only way it could have been worse it was a free game band. Like I was there for a month and I've been sent off for my debut. And then yeah, I ended up having a couple of months there and really enjoyed my time.
33:25Sean Morrison:I had some really good, Alan McCormack was good to me and Adam Barrett like proper looked after me and with Scotty Malone, fucking, he ended up leaving me, Scott Malone, the scone we call him, but, or the creature, but he, I got a phone call from the secretary at Southend like a week after I've been at Southend. And she was like, Scott Malone's signed today. He's going to come and live with you. And I was like, who the fuck is Scott Malone? I was like, what do you mean? Then there was just a knock on the door. I've opened the door and he's like, you know what I mean? And I was like, yeah, I'm Sean.
33:58Sean Morrison:He's like, I'm Scott. And then this geezer, living with this geezer for fucking six weeks. God, my God. I come back from training one day and there was just a chihuahua living in the house, in the flat. Yeah, just a chihuahua. And then there was just shit everywhere. Just shit everywhere. I've been gone for like six hours. And there was just a chua. He's like, yeah, I bought it for my missus. You're moving in with someone. You've got to ask them, tell them that you're bringing a dog. I was like, what do you mean? He was like, yeah, I bought it for my missus. I'm going to take it back on the weekend.
34:26Sean Morrison:It's Monday, by the way. I was like, so we've got to live with this dog for like... Mate, honestly, it was the worst. We had just shit everywhere all week. And Scottie's like, I love him dearly. I played with him at Cardiff and stuff. But fucking... And when you're 18, young lads aren't the most hygienic. You don't look after. You don't know how to live on your own. You don't know how to cook. looking at the clean. So even without the dog, it wouldn't have been the cleanliness of apartments. You know what I mean? But now we've got this little fucking trial running around and shitting everywhere.
34:53Sean Morrison:And Scotty was just this, yeah. But - Are you just leaving the shit where it is? I was like, skis, I can't clean this. Like this is not, this ain't my dog. And he'd be like, all right. Just leave it. Yeah, he'd be like, all right. I'd be like, yeah, but mate, I'm not cleaning it. So can you, and he'd be like, yeah, yeah, all right. And then he would just go to bed and I'd be like, I'm down on my hands and knees with like Sif and stuff like spraying car because it was like the it might have been like the chairman's apartment like he'd give it to me and Scotty to live in for a couple months so I was really conscious of like not fucking it up really It sounds like Wilson sent you out on loan but with the beauty of coming back and being involved you know with him ringing you after the first game he hasn't just like fucked you off I think Danny saw something in me and like I wanted to to try and impress and prove myself and play as many games as possible.
35:44Sean Morrison:So when he called me back, I was like, fuck sake, I'm a bit guided here. And then he, yeah, called me back. I didn't get anywhere near it for a good while, I don't think. And played a few games in between, done all right, played pretty well. But then again, it was like, if you're not fucking keeping clean sheets and playing excellent, it was like, Scotty and Gordy are gonna play regardless. So look, at the time I was fucking fuming about it because I was like, I'm doing all right. Just let me keep playing. Let me keep playing. But being an older person, now player, looking back like fucking Gordie and Scotty were never not going to play.
36:20Sean Morrison:That was always going to be the main two. And then that squad ended up getting to the player final that year anyway. So the semi-final, we played Charlton. So I was like the 16th or 17th. I don't know if there's five subs at the time, but I was like the guy who missed out. So I was like devastated. So I'm just sat on the bench in my fucking suit. ended up winning the game on penalties. So we're through to Wembley and all the boys are celebrating in that. I've played about fucking 35 minutes of football for Swindon that season. I'm there with my fucking tie around my head, doing knee slides in front of, at the Valley, just doing knee slides in front of our fans in that.
36:58In your suit. In my suit. I remember Cy Ferry and all that. I've played like 46 games that year and have like dug in and got to like the lad, got to Wembley. and I've been on loan at Southend got a fucking chihuahua and I'm just doing fucking these flies in my club suit honestly like I was a massive parlor fucking miles off don't know who I thought I was but I thought he was not
37:24Sean Morrison:absolutely miles off it but Gordie got sent off that game so I ended up getting on the bench you were on the bench I was on the bench in Wembley yeah so then French lad who set a half in and Scotty played but yeah you know what it's like fucking Wembley player final, it goes one or two ways. It's a great experience just to be on the bench. Just to be on the bench. I remember warming up and like running up and down and obviously Mill, it must've been 60 ,000 there. I don't know how many would have been at the game, but mum and dad are up there and I'm 19 at the time. And I'm just looking around thinking fucking I'm at Wembley.
37:55Like this is bonkers.
37:58Sean Morrison:Like how, how is this happening? I got released from Swindon at 16. Three years later, I'm fucking on the bench at Wembley. Yeah. This is unbelievable. This is amazing. and yeah, it would have been fantastic for Swindon to get promoted, but yeah, it just wasn't one of those days. The ball bobbled on Charlie, he had a one-on-one, but it just felt like it was in the stars, written in the stars that year that we were going to go up because we just had goals, we had firepower, but yeah, Mill kind of old man that I'm mad on the day and beat us. So what happened the next week? Because then you established yourself well in the first team, didn't you, following season?
38:34Sean Morrison:Yeah, I just started the season off well, I think and then had a good pre-season started playing scoring scored a couple goals Scoring? I got five in the first half of the season? Yeah so I was scoring a few goals there was a bit of interest from like you know it's like especially when you're like all the way through pretty much since I started playing at 17, 18 there was always like agent would call you and be like oh there's scouts at the game they were really impressed la la la but nothing ever materialised it was always Celtic coming for you at one time Yeah apparently they wanted to do like a joint buy for me and Coxie Simon Cox and then there would be sniffs about clubs and stuff.
39:07Sean Morrison:I just always was like, nothing will materialize like, it is what it is. Swindon gave me another contract. I was happy, I was settled. I was looking to buy my first house or apartment in Swindon. And then January rolled around and then yeah, ended up going to Redding that January. But that also happened so fast. I think we played Charlton on the Sky on the Friday, scored a header, won the game. and then I think the chief exec was at the game the chief exec at Redding called my agent and was like we want to try because I had a buyout clause in my contract as well for 250 grand so and yeah Redding activated the clause so I ended up going down the road so did you ever have that clause?
39:47nah it's a good one though isn't it I don't think I needed it to be honest one of them isn't it
39:56when you haven't spoken about the play of the year was it after the playoff final we've heard about the famous fire extinguishers at what point had you started going out with the lads and that
40:08Sean Morrison:after I made my debut in Millwall first year scholarship yeah I don't know if you remember what it was like when you first started going out with the older boys but you feel like you feel like a kid you know what I mean you're stood there with all these big blokes and they're just having a good time drinking pints and you're just there with like blue WKD what's going on here yeah And then ended up going out that night, having a fucking wicked time. And then it just kind of, I remember going on, my first Christmas do was obviously that December, still 17 at the time. And it was like that experience like blew my mind.
40:43Sean Morrison:Like day drinking. I was like, what is day drinking? Like Sunday, we're all dressed in like fancy dress, superheroes or something. And all the boys are like cracking on and me and a couple of the young boys. So I'm just like, this is nuts. Like I didn't know this was the thing. but yeah just that but those boys looked after us it was just a mad experience actually just like first going out of all the first team boys but they were fucking great crack they were fucking good boys man really good lads have I got that right with the fire extinguisher yeah yeah so that would have been after the player final so we had a two day bender after the player final it was like we'd won the won the I think it was because it was such a good season like no one expected us to get to the playoffs or them because I was fucking even though I was doing knee sliding just so you were pissed by three o 'clock you're now on two day benders and they're five months later so you've caught up yeah I've caught up I learnt the ways quick but yeah they so the fire extinguisher that was we had like the end of the season awards at the stadium everyone's like steaming having a good time after the awards fucking lost to they won the playoffs but everyone's had a good year everyone's having a good time and I vaguely remember being stood in the toilets with, I think it was me and Si, very, and then Bill was just like burst through the door like a bull in the china shop like he was, like fucking excitable puppy, like boom!
42:07Sean Morrison:He's just holding a fire extinguisher and Si was like, Bill, no. And he was like, yeah. And I was like, Bill, no. And he just, foam everywhere. Foam? Foam just, plastered the whole fucking thing. And then just burst back out the door and me and Si just in our club suits. I've still got grass buns all down my knee, but now I'm covered in foam. And I'm like, ah. It's a bunch of ghostbusters. That's how I was thinking. Yeah. So then we've like, me and Si have like borrowed out of this thing. And then like all the wives and partners and all the boys stood there cracking up. And then Bill was like, wait.
42:43Sean Morrison:But then there was like on the bar, the concourse is like the wooden bit where everyone was stands and queues up to the bar. so Bill's now spraying like the wood and now we're doing like Klinsmans and stuff like that suit I bet that suit's fucked yeah oh my god that suit is Gonski do you know what I mean but then like Danny Ward Danny Ward's like doing knee slides on fucking wood like this like everyone's like having a good time and I was thinking like I always did when I was that age I'd always take it fucking too far and I was like I'm gonna get bollock naked here yeah that'd be good that'd be good a Klinsman bollock naked in a bar with all the wives and girlfriends, all the boys, all the fans, and we've just lost in the playoff line.
43:26Yeah.
43:27Sean Morrison:Ripping off. So I've gone around the corner. I'm like ripping my suit off. Fucking barb, just buttons popping and that. I'm like shoes, phone in my shoe. And then I was like, right. I'm like, Bill's like spraying the wood again. And I've just come running around the corner. Like I'm running the bend on like the third leg of the relay. tackle swinging around I'm like out of the way and it's just like part of like the Red Sea and I'm just and I'm just honestly I must have been running like the fastest I've ever ran slid across the bar bang smash into the wall then I've got Bill's missus like riding me like a Viking longbow so she's on my back and then like people are like dragging my arms and like swinging us around then one of the boys got my feet spinning me around like I'm a break dancer.
44:16Thank God there isn't like smartphones and stuff really kicking off back then. Did you play what, 30 minutes? Didn't play a lot of football. But in the space of about a week and a half, I've gone from doing these slides at the Valley
44:31Sean Morrison:after winning the semi-final of the playoffs, didn't play a minute. And then acting like that. And then I remember as I was getting span around, Peter Shurtleff, the assistant, is just like banging the door open because there was like a marquee bit away from the bar where like all the staff and stuff were and everyone was having a dance and we were just playing silly box in the bar there and he just buffed the door open and I just, I couldn't really hear him but because I was getting span around and then every time, every time I'd catch a view of the door and he'd be stood there and then when I come back around, he was a little bit closer and then I come around again and he was a really close man and then in his big Northern accent, get the fuck up and I was like, okay.
45:12and then like he just stopped me spinning he was like get up and put your clothes on I was like shuffling away like fuck's sake
45:19Sean Morrison:the thing is he's got a really deep voice and all shit get up yeah and honestly but it was fucking yeah and I remember just I put my suit back on and then that realisation of like why did you take it too far again he just took it too far again you've always got to go and one up the thing is the lads they appreciate it from the lads I think it's worth the fucking from shit yeah yeah but then again like Like again, like I think Danny, I think the gaffer was just like, let them do what they want for today. Like we've just had, we just lost the biggest game in the season. They're having a blowout, let them crack on, like never really heard anything of it again.
45:56Sean Morrison:So yeah. Another thing about that, the winner, Billy getting the surface right. And you've delivered. Unreal. But me and Bill kind of built up a relationship where he proper took me on. Like I said, with the young boys, he always used to try and like get boys to come out of the shell. And as a young player, that was the pro you wanted in the first team. You wanted that pro that would like, when you did step up into the first team, he'd proper put his arm around you. Talking about Bill getting me into trouble all the time, I remember Scotty, so Scotty Cuffbert. So Scotty, Cy, Scotty, John Paul McGovern, they used to go back to Glasgow all the time.
46:33Sean Morrison:So they'd jump on the plane, fly back home, and they had a couple of days off. And Bill's come and picked me up one day. He said, come on, I'll take you some food. So we've gone for some food. and he was like dangling this key in front of me. And I was like, what is that? And he was like, it's the back door to Scotty's house, Scotty Cuthbert. And I was like, where'd you get that? He said, I nicked it about two weeks ago. He's like, I've been waiting for him to go back home. Let's go and ransack his house. And I was like, Bill, man, like, nah, like. Tufa? Yeah, like, let's go do it. Yeah. So we've gone in the back door, mate.
47:03Sean Morrison:What we've done to this fucking house is like, we've rearranged every bit of furniture in the house so like the living room like sofa like we're carrying sofas upstairs and that like three-piece sofas like me and bill like we're fucking bailiffs but we're like moving all the stuff in the living room up into his bedroom everything from his bedroom's coming down to living room we're in the attic we're getting down all the christmas decks it's like i can't remember when it was but christmas was a long way i mean christmas is a long way off so we're getting christmas decks out i'm in his drawers I'm getting like all his socks and I'm just putting them in random places in his kitchen.
47:38Like we've done a proper job on it. Like a real big old job. I reckon three or four hours we were in this house.
47:47Sean Morrison:Like mate, we're like literally like putting up Christmas decorations. Like we're decorating the house properly. Like putting baubles on the tree and that. Lights on. Bill was like, this is perfect. He's going to be fucking fuming. And Scotty didn't like that stuff anyway. Like great lad. Loved him. But he, that, that, well, most people aren't going to fucking buzz him with that. I'm not sure I'm not sure if I know one mother to be honest that is brilliant I put all my stuff back downstairs so Bill's dropped me home and I'm thinking right it was like Sunday or whatever and Bill's called me like later that night and he's like mate we've had a beast like we might need to go back and try and rectify what we've done so Cy or JP had rang Billy I think Bill would give one of them boys a heads up like wait till Scotty gets home and then Cy or JP's called Bill and been like, Nate, nah, like, he's been in bed, like with the flu all weekend.
48:42Sean Morrison:Like he got back up to Scotland, he's been ill, he's not been very well, he's had the shits, he's been sick, like he's in a bad way. Like we've gotten to the airport, like we're about to fly back to Swindland, but he shouldn't really be flying, he's fucked. Like he's on death's door. And he was like, oh, like, and Sia was like, Sia, JP was like, how bad have you done it? And he's like, like bad, like 10 out of 10. and then obviously they've got home I think Si and Scotty lived together at the time and Si said when he's like gone in the door and there's just like a fucking seven foot Christmas tree in the middle of the fucking thing Scotty and then Si's giving the heads up like Bill and Sean have been in the house and then they've gone in and it was like mate we've taken like bedsteads we're like taking them apart and then rebuilding them downstairs like with tools we've got drills and stuff Do you know what I mean?
49:30Like, stuff that won't fit out the doors. We've taken them apart, took them downstairs, and then built them back in rooms that shouldn't have them. Can you imagine having flu and having gone back to bed in kitchen? That's fair.
49:43Sean Morrison:You haven't got to go upstairs, have you? Upstairs you need to walk. And Si said he was, well, he punched a hole in the wall, and then I don't think he spoke to me and Bill for a month. A month? Three weeks, yeah. He didn't talk to us for a long time. I played next to him he was my centre half partner he didn't speak to me for fucking about three weeks but I got it when I look him back it was bad apologise yeah yeah yeah me and Bill both said like mate fucking we took it too when he would actually speak to us it got to the point where everyone was aware of him not speaking to us it got to the point where it was like is Scottie going to talk to Sean and Bill today and then when it got to the point it was like we had passed it all and he had put his house back together Oh, so you didn't even sort it out?
50:29Sean Morrison:He didn't call us back in, no. You knew what everything were as well. It would have taken him weeks to put that back together. See, I think... And carrying on as well, you know, like when you're making a brew and then it tastes a bit weird and you find a pair of socks and a ink kettle. Donny is. Yeah. Yeah. Looking back, I would have been fuming. Yeah. I think I'm at the point where you're lucky he's not swung. Yeah. I think the fact I mean if me and Bill were in the house when he came in I think he's probably chinning us both and I was just lucky that Bill was part of it as well do you know what I mean if it was me and another young lad we're getting our heads kicked in because Bill was like one of the main boys in the changing room Scott he couldn't really he could be fuming but he couldn't really he couldn't batter me and then not batter Bill so did it ever get to the point where you could laugh about that yeah yeah it got to the point where like I said probably probably four weeks down the line once he had gotten over it and put his house us back together.
51:26Merry Christmas, mate. Honestly, I reckon it was probably March.

54:19How long after you left, did De Canio go in at Swindon?
54:23Sean Morrison:So I went in the January and then De Canio, Danny was up until the end of that season, I think. And then he left at the end of the year and then De Canio come in that summer. So you're getting messages saying you've dodged about it. I missed him by about six months, yeah. So Kyle Kennedy, who's one of my best pals still to this day, Kyle was, I think Cy spoke about him when he come on here. Cal's like good looking lad like slicked back barnet wanted to look good and all that and he was the one that bought in the protein and give it to like one of the fitness coaches and was like can you just check make sure that's all safe for me to take and then because Cal just wanted to know did it have anything banned substances he's gone to Dacanio Dacanio thinks Cal's taking protein because he wants to have a beach body and then just hated Calum from that moment forward like just hated him like oh you pretty boy you want to be pretty boy and all that and cal was like no i just didn't want to get banned for taking the wrong protein um but yeah i think i dodged a very very big bullet because the boys said like that pre-season that first pre-season when they all went to early for two weeks said it was like the hardest thing they've ever the fittest they've ever been yeah and the heart but the hardest thing they've ever done and everyone was just like this guy's still so good at football he just expects us to be as good like why can't you do this like goalkeeper would like in shape, Cal would say like, he'd get the goalkeeper to like smash the ball up in the air and like he'd be watching it not move and then it would just be like, and just ball would stop there.
55:50And he'd be like, see? And then he'd be like, he's like, you want to have seven swimming pools in Manchin in Italy? This is what you do. And then he'd just slap the ball out wide and then be like, and play. And then boys would just be like, but we're not the Canio. We're in League Two at Swindon. So yeah, I think I was very lucky to have left at that time. football's all about timing isn't it? It's all about like
56:12Sean Morrison:you get your opportunities timing and stuff and very lucky to have gone to Reading at that time because I felt like the club was on a bit of an up then as well like Brendan Rodgers had just been sacked Brian McDermott had come in the club started doing well started getting results they had a really really good squad You fit in straight away in the dressing room A lot so Callum lived with Jem Karajan who played for Reading so Cal and Jem had known each other since they were 15, they lived together. Cal used to drive into Swindon. It's not that far, is it from Swindon to really? 40 miles. 40 miles.
56:47Sean Morrison:So when I signed, I was in the hotel for a few days and I'd went back to my digs and I was like, I think I might commute a little bit for the first few months and I'll see if I can get an apartment or something. But after like two, three days, Jem just said, mate, just come live with me. I've got a spare bedroom in the house. So I didn't know Jem before then. I only knew him through Callum a little bit. and he just said yeah just come live with me and because jem jem was such a wicked wicked guy like just took me in he was like one of the mainstays of the dressing room boys loved him he had great banter um so i just came came in as his mate i knew alex pierce because he threw jem and cow how robson can he was there who had been on loan at reddin um at swindon from reddin so i knew a A few of the boys, Simon Church, around my age.
57:36Sean Morrison:So I kind of fit in okay. At Alps. Yeah, massively. But it was a massive culture shock in terms of like professionalism. And then I've come in and I'm just like, my diet wouldn't have been great. Like I didn't know much about nutritional diet. I used to, I was just in my head when I look back, I was just like winging it the whole time. I'd go out there and just try and head and kick balls and then I'd roll into the next game. So then when I've actually signed for Reading, they've got nutritionists there and they're talking about body fats. and about fucking what you put in your body and watching the boys train.
58:06Sean Morrison:I was like, again, like making my debut when I was at Gillingham and it felt like the ball was moving 100 miles an hour and I was like in this weird slow motion where I couldn't keep up with what was going on. That's what the first couple of weeks of training felt like. Felt like I was playing catch up and I was miles off it. I knew from January to the end of the season, like I was never going to be, that was just about bedding me in, getting me training, getting me up to speed with kind of how things work. And I loved it. Like I was smashing the gym with like Tabby. Like Jay was a fucking machine.
58:35Sean Morrison:Like one of the best pros you've ever seen, like eating the gym, train hard. So I was like watching these lads thinking, right, this is, if I want to get in the first team at Reading, I need to be acting like these boys. I need to be eating the right stuff, I need to be training well. So it flipped the switch in my head of like, right, I've had my fun, like pissing around, being a silly bollocks, getting spun around, doing these slides at the valley to like, no, I need to get my head in the game here. Like if I want to play at this level, that I need to change a lot of my habits and stuff. But yeah, that was a...
59:07Sorry, mate. And he cracked on Alex Pierce because Scotty Malone told us about his... What was the game that he plays? The Freeze or something? Oh, with the remote?
59:17Sean Morrison:Yeah. Pierce, he's one of the... Honestly, mate, if you boys can get him on here, get him on here. He's one of the most mental characters you've ever met. Like, he is amazing. He's so dry. I had a few the other day and I've texted him saying, Alex, give the punters what they want. Have you really? He hasn't replied yet. He's so dry. He's not like anyone I've ever met. He's trying to make him laugh, impossible. He's just a fucking great, great guy, man. Stiff as it comes, stiff as they come. Baldry non-weirder? Once you get to know him, like if you only met him a few times, you'd be like, this guy's mental, mental.
1:00:04Sean Morrison:I remember once we ended up, we were on a night out in Reading and we've like all piled into cabs and we're like flying up the street and like Piercy's come out like a second after us, like Terminator. And he just stood in the middle of the road and we're driving up this massive long road at like 10 miles an hour. And, Peercy's not moved from the middle of the road. He's just staring like that, just staring at the back of the cab. And I'm thinking, what's this guy doing? What's he doing? And then as we've turned the corner, we've got the cabbie to go back around and come back around the CB. He still stood there like four or five minutes later, just stood, stood in the middle of the road.
1:00:36He's like, what are you doing? And he's like, looked in the cab, looked at the boys and he just done a U-turn and gone straight back into the bar. This is the kind of guy, he's just mental.
1:00:44Sean Morrison:So him and Howe, Robson Kanu, they had a game where they used to, they used to order room service to like the room and then knock on they used to leave the door on the latch and there'd be like a knock on the door and be like room service and then one of them be like yeah come in and then it would be like a young lad or a young girl would come in and they'd be just both stood there in their sloggies but just both acting as if they were made of like stone so then there'd be a young lad stood there with like two meals and like a couple drinks like room service and then not one of them would look at them and they'd be like one of you needs a sign and they'd go and the lad would just go alright we'll get a signature we'll get a signature tomorrow and then just shuffle out the door but it was just like a constant thing they used to do it all the time you'd be just sat downstairs and they'd just freeze and piercey would just be frozen for like four or five minutes for no reason he fucking bonkers man he was fucking mad honestly those two together but Piercy, Piercy, Howe, and Churchy as well, he was part of that.
1:01:48Those three were fucking mad. So you know I ain't got that in my locker, don't you? Yeah. So it says it needs a sign, I'm like, I hate awkwardness. Sorry, a bit stiff. The more awkward they can make situations, like the better for them. They used to love the awkwardness. Used to say stuff and you'd just be like, oh no, don't like it, don't like it. You know, like when you're watching something on telly and you're just like, I can't watch it. It's making me feel too awkward. they used to thrive for those situations I would never have Hal down as that though
1:02:17Sean Morrison:Hal loved it from meeting him Hal loved it both of them man both of them were fucking brilliant fucking funny nads McDermott like he always reminded me of a mole McDermott you know like just a little mole popping its head out of the ground he was the one I like Brian me and him used to bat like butt heads especially my first like I went through like looking back I was probably a bit like a petulant little fucking child sometimes throwing my toys out the pram but because I'd gone from playing and then that first few months, but looking back again, as you get older and you're playing games, you're not focused on training.
1:02:50Sean Morrison:You're not trying to train well. You're just thinking, how do I get through to the next game? Whereas when I was at Reading, for that first year and a half, I was like, Monday to Friday, I need to be on it. So I was similar to Reading. I was throwing myself in front of anything, fucking kicked the ball in my face. I fucking love it. Do you know what I mean? I'm trying to make a point like I'm fucking here to go. So I was training really well. like every day I was like gym before gym after like trying to be the ultimate pro which then led into more frustration so then when I wasn't getting anywhere near the first team I was from like Brian McDermott would be trying to like talk to me in training if I'd done something wrong and I'd throw my toys at the pram we'd have fucking arguments I'd be hard to work with at times yeah I'd be difficult because I was just frustrated I wouldn't get anywhere near it so then each week it was like more and more frustrating um and then when the opportunity came to to sign a huddersfield again the following year that january yeah again lee clark rang and was like we would love to take you so he said right we'll put in the contract you've got to play the first game so i was thinking but it's on me yeah it's a start like at least then i know like if i do all right first game then i can get into it and go so that's kind of how that materialized but so that was a january I was going to say, did you miss each other?
1:04:05I must have just left, yeah. Right. I think I went back to the start of January. Back down here to Cardiff. Yeah, that would have been January 2012. We'd have had a good time, mate. You wouldn't have been bothered if you didn't play a second time either. We'd have a little kick of the ball. Yeah, it was Big Alan Lee.
1:04:24Sean Morrison:Strange cat, isn't he, Big Al? Yeah. Do you know what? Again, he was one of those lads who put their arm around me a little bit, took me in, looked after me. Tommy Miller was there. Damian Johnson obviously Pete Clark Skip what a guy and then playing that fucker he's an animal mate I think he might have just got to a thousand games yeah he has has he yeah he's phenomenal man tell you who's made me laugh McDermott Terry yeah Lee Clark's assistant manager slash thing never said one thing about football just on his phone all the time putting bets on walking around training on his phone they used to walk around pick-a-micks they used to always have pick-a-micks it's like one of Liverpool's best ever players and he's just walking around like a fucking KG of pick and mix.
1:05:06Where'd you get that from? I don't know. Fucking fuck knows. Bless, I don't think he's very well now, is he? No.
1:05:12Sean Morrison:Good guy. Yeah. But to be fair, Lee Clark ended up getting sacked after not long when I was there, which was a bit of a kick again. I was like, fucking any danger, like any chance, like just a bit of luck. I just need a bit of continuity of like, he signed me, who's going to come in? This is going to go tits up again. I need to play now. Like I've had a year of not playing any football. I need to play some fucking football. Grayson coming, Grayson was the complete polar opposite, barely shouted, didn't want confrontation ever, ever, ever, ever, never, ever really heard him raise his voice. And that was probably what a lot of the boys needed because then you end up getting the best out of the young boys.
1:05:48Sean Morrison:You end up getting pretty best out. We had Jordan Rhodes fucking out. He scored about 40 odd goals that year. And Lee Novak, who's a bit of an unsung hero. The rest of the squad was half decent. And we had a good team spirit. We ended up getting promoted that year. confident were your penalty at Wembley it's a weird one when I look back on it obviously I took the 20th penalty I was going to say were you in the five the list of five or were you by default all 11 22 penalties were taken yeah and we missed the first three and still won so Alan Lee Tommy Miller Damian Johnson missed I'm sure Jonty missed his penalty on purpose that's how far it went wide
1:06:30he strolled up so casually and he's just booted it and it's gone about a yard wide and before it's even gone one he just turned back and he's like well we've missed three i remember looking across to the side of the pitch i think i think wardy i think wardy had come off during the game
1:06:44Sean Morrison:so wardy was on the side of the pitch and i'm kind of looking across and we're both looking each other like fucked it like we've missed three penalties there's no way and then alex smithy's in goal smudges i think they hit the post on one made a save um and it's like oh we might have a chance here so i think they missed their second third and fourth it was terrible the first six penalties i mean um i think there's one goal in the first six maybe um and then after that no one missed it was just goal goal goal goal the first seven were kind of set out who was going to have the first seven and because i was on loan from reading reading had just been promoted to the Premier League as well.
1:07:21Sean Morrison:Like that year, they won the league with Southampton to come second. So, in my head, I was like, even though I've had nothing to do with that, if I did, I would have been doing some fucking knee slides.
1:07:35100 % Adam Mideski, suit on.
1:07:40It's the arms that make it for me. So, in my head, I was like, I've got another, I think I had two years left in my contract at Reading. So, I'm going back to Premier League league club not that i'm going to be a premier league player but i'm going back to a club in a really good position yeah like they've just been promoted they're on a super high i didn't want to be anywhere near a penalty because i was like if i'm the reason that huddersfield don't get promoted it'll fucking eat me up it will eat me up forever especially that they've been so close the last couple years they lost in the player final year before i think they lost in the semis maybe the year before so i was just really conscious of like the pressure's massive for me because i'm just
1:08:16Sean Morrison:going to go all right see you later everyone i'm going back to redding enjoy league one again next year and i love my time i just would i fucking loved it and i i wanted to sign there after that season i was desperate to leave redding i mean i went from a situation where i wasn't happy at redding to now playing got promoted i was buzzing so i really wanted to sign there but got to the eighth penalty i can't remember who took who took our eighth penalty but then it was between me and jack hunt and me and hunting good powers and hunting was on the other end of the line to me and he's like, give it one of them.
1:08:45I looked over and I was like, you, not me.
1:08:48Sean Morrison:I was like, you're taking it, I'm not. So Jack's looked across and I'm like, you take it. You shouldn't have been taking the ninth anyway. You should have been well forward. Jack's gone up and scored. And then I'm like, right, if whoever's playing, whoever's the Sheffield United player is taking this pen, if he scores, I'm up. And then I'm just watching it, watching it, watching it buff. I think he slaps it like top corner. I'm like, right, here we go then. At the Huddersfield end as well, my mum and dad, my brother, all up in that corner. And I'm just like, right, just focus on the, you know, it's everyone that's the fucking, pick your spot, don't change it.
1:09:22Sean Morrison:I think I changed my mind about a hundred times on the way down. I was like, are you gonna go down the middle? Are you gonna play to the end? You've probably taken a penalty a million times, like young lad and stuff. So put the ball down anyway, put it to the keeper, my left keeper's right. He goes the same way as well. So as I've struck it and I've seen him going that way, I'm thinking, but it's like crept in like, in between the post and his fingers. And I was like, right, that's my job done. If it gets back to me, if we go for another fucking 20 penalties, none of us deserve to be fucking...
1:09:52You know what I mean? Just got a ball draw. Just let the fourth go. And it was a terrible final as well. So it was like 40 degrees. Like it was roasting hot. A load of the fans didn't make it down. There's a crash on like the M1, nothing coming down. So a load of the fans missed the first half of the game, I think. but then Smudge has scored his penalty and then it was Simonson
1:10:17Sean Morrison:for Sheffield in goal and I remember I think it was Big Alan Lee or somebody as we were stood on the line and someone just said he's going to miss it and you could just tell by his run up and he's like leaning back and he just blasted over and it was just like it's probably the best moment I've ever had in my career like that feeling beats everything knee slide did I do a knee slide? no I didn't I only did these slides when I've got my club suit on of course oh silly me but yeah I just that oh god because we were facing the Huddersfield fans as well and there must have been 35, 40 ,000 Huddersfield fans just fucking running towards like that end don't know where we're running like I remember I think Wardy like in the celebrations his like headbutted me and I've like his tooth in my head and I'm just like oh who cares I love it I mean like just euphoric 21 years old like fucking how are you afterwards because you've been for a lot of emotions there i imagine were you drained afterwards or were you uh yeah i think i was 20 21 days on the bounce i think went after it yeah i had a three-week bender basically 21 yeah because i went what it was we had we had the best three-day bender after that with like the boy so saturday night went out Sunday was a barbecue around Big Ali's house.
1:11:39Went to a pub, back to ours, fucking cracked on.
1:11:42Sean Morrison:Monday was the bus tour around Huddersfield, town hall and all that, which was fucking one of the best days of my life. Like unbelievable going around the streets and stuff, the fans, nothing I'd ever expect, like imagine would have happened. I mean, there was thousands of people lying in the streets. It was fucking brilliant, man. It was such a good day. We were on the town hall and like, I'm fucking ripping my gear off, throwing all my gear off tracks. Get the fire extinguisher. Yeah, get the fire extinguisher out. I had to borrow Grayson's assistant. Grayson's assistant had to give me his tracksuit because we were going out afterwards.
1:12:13I didn't have any gear. All my gear had gone off the town hall roof. Oh, gruff, gruff stands.
1:12:17Sean Morrison:Yeah, so, and then, yeah, went on holiday. I went on holiday. I went back to Reading. Had a, I think I had a drink in Reading that night with a couple of the boys back there and then went on holiday with all the boys. Went to America for like fucking, I think it was like 16 days or something. So then that was fucking every day. so I had a good old go after had a good old go the thing is because the playoff finals say end of May May bank holiday isn't it yeah you've done the 21 days I bet yous were back in training at Reading Reading well the Premier League season probably starts a week later so I think we were back in probably end of June beginning of July yeah but when you're 21 you can fucking crack on yeah it's much easier isn't it well for some yeah and what's the first day like back at Reading I'm assuming sit down maybe discussing your future well do you know what getting promoted to Huddersfield it changed their whole mindset like they were now like oh he's ready now like he's he's gonna he's gonna proper be a part of this like we can get him he's gonna be first team player for Reading and for me I was like I don't want to be a first team player for Reading anymore like I obviously had a really frustrating year of not getting anywhere near it going on loan getting promoted from League One to the Championship now Huddersfield are a Championship team I want to go play I've never played in the Championship I want to go and play for Huddersfield in the Championship I know there's an opportunity there for me to go and sign.
1:13:39Sean Morrison:But Reading didn't even call them player. They were like, no. Do you know when you did go back? Obviously not figures or whatever, but your wages doubled? No. Would you have had to play so many games in the championship season? I think you would have had to play maybe half the games. Not starts, but potentially half, like 20 appearances for your wages to go up. So I was still on the same contract. that I'd signed when I signed there originally. And I knew there was an opportunity and I was never driven by like dough or anything like that. I was always driven just by fucking, I just wanted to play football, do you know what I mean?
1:14:13Sean Morrison:But also frustrated because I knew there was an opportunity to get a better contract at Huddersfield and play. Not say I'd be the main man, but play every week for Huddersfield. I have an opportunity to play every week, but now I was back to like, felt like I was back to square one. So when did you get that opportunity? So I ended up playing in the, I came on in like the first round of the Carling Cup, maybe first, second round, we played QPR away. And Mapps, that might've been Mapps' first start. He came off after about 70 minutes with Kramp and then I've come on Carling Cup, played 20 minutes and just fucking made some really important blocks, fucking throw my head in front of everything.
1:14:54Same situation, just doing everything I can to like, a moment to like, what a block, what a tackle, do you know what I mean? come off the pitch and then Brian McDermott was like
1:15:05Sean Morrison:you were fantastic then like it is like their whole mindset changed around me since the Huddersfield thing and they were like that was like you were like a man out there like you didn't look like a young player anymore okay wicked that's really nice to hear but am I going to get anywhere am I going to get anywhere near it then weekend would come nowhere near it nowhere near it and then the second round or whatever round of the Carling Cup it was we played Arsenal at home it was the infamous 7-5 game where we were 4-0 up and ended up losing the game but I start that game first half we're cruising 4-0 up at home to Arsenal and they Arsene Wenger's gaffer I don't know we played up front like Schemach and Walcott we absolutely capitulate it's like 4-2 after 85 minutes capitulate you conceded 7 goals in and a half it might have been right but do it we conceded 4 and a half and then we conceded 3 more next time alright oh right yeah I've come away honestly Honestly, I came away from that game, like I've actually done all right there.
1:16:02I've actually played well. Like I've done some really good things in the game and I thought, but we've lost the game. That's my opportunity gone. I'm fucking, that was it. If we won that game, I was going to make my debut this weekend. But yeah, that weekend I ended up making my debut against QPR away, Premier League debut.
1:16:20Sean Morrison:Yeah, it was on live on Sky as well. So I ended up making my debut and then I had a good little run in the team then. I played probably seven, eight games, got a little knock around Christmas so I rolled my ankle and then came out for a little while but yeah again that season was a fucking whirlwind because playing Premier League football and fucking not even playing the championship wanted to leave to go to Huddersfield had a really frustrating time and it was just like thrust into yeah I didn't really get to appreciate that season because it was just all like happening so fast it was like oh we've got QPR and this team and it's Villa and then it's Man United at home and it's like oh you're playing against fucking Van Persie and Rooney and Paul Scholes and it's like fucking hell like I was training on my own every Saturday like three, four months ago Just go straight in Chris NordVPN boom NordVPN the best VPN service in the world we're that good friends with her but I said we'd write a jingle you nailed it I'm not sure it's going to make Christmas number one Chris if I'm honest but it was fantastic yes another special message from our good friends at NordVPN who have got some unbelievable offers for under the cosh listeners for their VPN service, which it's just second to none.

1:20:19fuck that is a whirlwind you spell it redden in it you end up signing a new contract and then they get three million quid it was it was it was you know what it was fucking it was it was mental so i i signed a new deal uh adkins came in i think i signed a new deal that premier league year
1:20:37Sean Morrison:gave me a little bump because i was still on like basically my league what fucking would have been my first contract to sign that so they give me a bit of a bump um another couple years started playing the Premier League year, obviously that's when they gave me the bump. And then the following year of Adkins, he, Joby McEnough was still there. So Joby was club captain, but I don't think he started that season and Adkins had made me vice captain. So he had like, when Joby's not playing, Sean's captain kind of thing. So I was like, fucking hell, this is a big responsibility gone from being nowhere near it.
1:21:10Sean Morrison:And Adkins kind of showed that faith in me. It was kind of, it was very polar opposite to what I'd had with Brian beforehand. And we were playing like really nice football at times and we were winning games. We were like top six, like flying, doing really well. And went in again for another contract. Agent was like, look, Sean's fucking playing every week. He's vice captain, doing really well. Like, are we going to put him on a proper contract? Like at the minute he's on a contract that wouldn't be for someone who was like starting games so can we get him a proper contract and then they were like right we need to be in the top six by christmas he needs to be doing this doing this doing this so it got to christmas so it got to like november time when we were like top six doing all the things we said we were going to do like hitting all the parameters they wanted um and then i do my knee the international break i just grade two medial and train in like six weeks the eight week injury or whatever and then like the contract thing just like kind of gets It's like shush, shush.
1:22:12Ended up getting it through anyway, sign a new deal. But then I miss a big chunk of that season.
1:22:17Sean Morrison:The rehab didn't go well. I kept re-injuring and training. I ended up coming back like fucking April time. So I missed a massive chunk of that season. I think the following year, pre-season, flying, best I've ever felt. Wanted to stay at Reading. No interest in moving clubs or anything. Start the season, Wigan at home, Wigan away, score, play Newport in the cup. Agent rings me and says, Cardiff, I'm going to put a bid in for you. tomorrow and I was like hey I don't know if that's what I want like I'm Joe being left now I'm club captain now so I'm the actual captain Cardiff just come down Cardiff had just been relegated that year Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over in the January they've just been relegated and then yeah I've get the phone call and I'm like fucking hell I'm quite settled here so obviously Cardiff have just come down there's a good chance that they're having a bash to get back up we were ready were they like just thinking We had been relegated the year before that, so we'd had a year in the champ, and we were doing all right, do you know what I mean?
1:23:16Ambition-wise, are you thinking, right, we're going to have a bash? Selling players. Yeah. To get up. Well, once Alfie had left, and then Alex had left, my gut was like, it'd be nice to know what Cardiff's about, because Cardiff, I'd always, all the time I've been playing football, Cardiff always been around the top six, playoffs,
1:23:37Sean Morrison:opportunities to get into the Premier League, and massive club. I'd only been there once for that playoff game. So I've seen the stadium. I know what it's like. Fucking massive stadium. So at first week, I thought I'd made the biggest mistake of my life because there was about 40, between 40 and 50 first team players. And there was a few on loan, but we were going out to train and there'd be like 40 outfield players in training. 40. Like you're doing possessions, 20 versus 20, like one and two touch. the staff like one touch and there's like we're getting up to like three passes the balls are just glass if you want to hide by the way yeah balls are flying out like you would sometimes you wouldn't touch the ball for like there'd be like five minute possession you wouldn't touch the ball once and I was I remember thinking like what have I done I'm sharing a peg with like a lad I don't even know like some German lad a Norwegian lad sharing a peg like fucking someone's stinky gear all over mine and I'm just like what have I done I bet the German got his gear on first did they just did they filter it down in that summer had they just brought loads of trialists loans I think when Cardiff first got into the Premier League Malky was gaffer so I think they had had a good bash in that summer signed a load of players didn't work out great Malky's left Oli Gunnar's come in he's got the January window and he's obviously said to the owner like give me some dough so he's then signed a load of his players and then he's now got so we've got all of Malky's new signings plus the old boys who got them there and now Olly Gunnar's got all the like the Norwegian the Germans like fucking Spanish lads have all come in so now we've almost got like two or three separate squads of players just like boom Am I right in saying was it chaos?
1:25:22Did you have three managers in three months? When you first arrived or am I off the When I first arrived? Yeah So obviously Olly Gunnar I've got Olly Gunnar then Danny Gabidon named Russell Slade yeah so Gabs and Scott Young they took over because Gabs was still part of the playing status player Scott Young like club legend he kind of stepped in to help out so but it was never a permanent thing no they were just kind of a stopgap between getting
1:25:54Sean Morrison:another manager basically and then Slade came in yeah Slade yeah Slade was do you know what he doesn't really get the credit probably that's due with the job he did because like i said when i first turned up it was a shamble it was like impossible for it to what to anything to work out and be positive from that situation there was lads who didn't want to be there didn't want to live in england or wales sorry didn't want to live here on good though and there was just the squad was just fucking they just needed ripping apart and then sorting out and and slady got rid of a lot of the deadwood what was he like because you mentioned you got a story.
1:26:34Great guy, man. He's just got the job from Norway as well, didn't he? Yeah, I don't even know. I couldn't even tell. I know obviously he got promoted with... Was it Leonore? I think, yeah. Did he get promoted? Did he get promoted, I'm sure. I don't think he... Did he not? No, he steadied the shit there. Is that the playoff final one, Steve Evans did run down the thing? Yeah, yeah. He got beat. Looking well, by the way, Steve. I don't think he's ever... Rev scored a worldie, didn't he? What a good guy. what a brilliant man manager really likeable didn't really wasn't you didn't get caught up too much in like the bullshit that comes along with football and lying to lads and trying to keep people inside he was pretty he was pretty good with a lot of that stuff he's got the boys inside and like I said honestly all the boys would have ran through brick walls for him because he was just top top man he loved Cheltenham as well which was fucking top George I mean it's always nice when your manager wants to go in it oh yeah fucking August he'd be like Moz Chapman this year I'm like it's fucking August it's fucking six months away get it boxed off get it boxed off put it in the diary and then it would get to like get to like January February and he'd be like is it boxed off yeah it's boxed off Gaffer it's the sword he's like nice and then it'd be like the day the Tuesday we'd always go on the Tuesday and he'd be like what time should we what time should we get in on Tuesday I'm like early as possible he's like right 9 o 'clock start on the pitch he's like little half an hour 45 minute razz fucking little seven asides get them if I can get your suits on on the coach like we can get the champion for 11 yeah lovely and he's like mate honestly we're doing like seven aside tournaments so he's got like this whole thing printed out and he's like we're doing like he's got bowls of champagne for the winners and that and he's like popping champagne on the Vale training ground and then we're like right everyone get your suits on and we're straight on the bus he's doing chilli vodka at the back of the bus at the back at the back of the bus with Nicky Maynard Nicky Maynard used to bring a bottle of disgusting like this one million Scoville chili vodka it was rancid and Slade's at the back of the bus at ten in the morning like bawh nailing down these shots these fucking top drawer he'll do for me Russell honestly what a fucking bloke but that Chownton so fucking funny so we had signed Ollie Gunnar had signed Bruno Manga so it was basically me, Bentana, Bruno Manga us three it was basically the two places for us three and Bruno was fucking good player like fucking silky, good, strong, wicked but he was struggling a little bit with like away, he didn't like playing away from home really like that first season like struggled a little bit coming up against big like big Craig Davis at Bowen like throwing him about and stuff like he struggled with certain situations whereas me and Ben knew how to deal with that and so So me and Ben were solid.
1:29:27Bruno was like much better than both of us. I'll be honest, he was a much better player. But Bruno would always play. And it'd always be me and Ben were flipping in and out of teams. I'd play a few games. Ben would play a few games. We were bouncing around and stuff. Around that situation, around kind of March time. And I remember Slady was like, at Cheltenham, I wasn't playing at the time. I probably missed a couple games because Slade did, I think, had the heads up from the staff and people above. Bruno has to play. From the owner. Bruno plays regardless of what you think. If you want to play Sean and Ben, that's not how it's going to go.
1:30:05Bruno plays. Pick one of the other two.
1:30:10So at Cheltenham, 11 o 'clock flies around. We're all fucking pissed at our head. We're about to jump back on the coach to come back to Cardiff. And it's just me and Sladey stood outside the coach waiting for the rest of the boys and he stood there with like a big bag of Chinese and I'm like, can I have some prawn crackers? He's my favourite member manager, I've never played for him. And we're just having like a chinwag in there and then all of a sudden I'm just like, I'm like, you're a fucking shithouse, you. I'm like, are you going to grow a set of balls and drop Bruno or what? I was like, me and Tans, Bruno out.
1:30:44Have you got the fucking balls for it? And he was going, I've got the biggest fucking balls you've ever seen. He's going, I've got the biggest balls you've ever seen. And then he was just getting a prawn cracker and smashing it over the top of my head. And then I was getting a prawn cracker and going, how big are your balls? And I was going, bam! And just smashing prawn crackers off each other's head. And then all the boys were like turned up and then I just went to the back of the bus. He's gone on the front of the bus and we just never spoke about it. And then I didn't play the following game.
1:31:16It was fucking mental. I don't think I played for weeks after that. Monday morning. But in the moment, I was thinking, I am 100 % going to be playing Saturday. I don't know who we had, but I was like, I'm playing Saturday, like 100%. Nope. Team sheet come out, nope. Back on the bench. Sat on the bench on Saturday going like that. Gaffer. Yeah, what happened to that massive bollocks you had, by the way, Gaffer? Squirrel nads. But those kind of moments, I look back and I think, like, fucking what a man. Would that have been the same, Cheltenham? did we hear a story about Fabio? Yeah. That's when he was in turns, he'd done the little betting thing, innit?
1:31:53Right. Yeah. That's what we were speaking about off camera a minute ago and we were saying, turns was telling all the boys, lads, you need to get on this bet. Like, bet way or someone, if you put a certain amount in, you're going to get double bet. You bet it. All you've got to do is bet it all. And turns was like, it's nailed on. We're going to win. But, if you're not into horse racing, you're not into betting, you're just like, straight over my head, I'm just thinking, I just want to go to the Guinness tent and have a good time yeah i'll have a little punt on a couple horses have a good time but then obviously i think turns and fabs ended up winning tens of thousands on it was the year annie power fell um and they would have won a fortune if annie power had won but they ended up still i think doing all right still had a really good chelton bless her yeah quids in quids in but that that was the night that so we've all ended up going before we were smashing prawn crackers off each other's head we ended up in a bar and slady's up on on stage doing karaoke he's singing never forget by take that it's one of the best renditions you've ever heard or the boy never get them all going no it's like cheltenham's full of football teams on the tuesday in it like there's players everywhere so there must have been probably half the championship half of league one half of league two in this little tiny bar and you've got fucking argather up there fucking singing never forget by take that it's unreal and before we before before we got up on stage I think I had two pints of beer or something at the bar.
1:33:17He's come over, he's going, one of them mine? I was like, no, I think one's mine, and I think one was Rossi's or one of the boys. And he was like, rock, paper, scissors for it. And I was like, all right. And he's going, boom, boom, boom. I'll beat him. So I'm like, right, two fingers, then gaffer, and he's just gone, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. Smash it down, grab that one, and went, I'll have that as well. And he went, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. And then just went, pfft. and I was like, oh fuck's sake, I'll queue up for another beer, turn around, he's on staging and never forget.
1:33:45What a guy. Top man. Honestly, unbelievable. Unbelievable. Did he end up a horse that day? Yeah, I think Lee Tomlin was fucking riding him around the bar. Literally, before Tomo signed for Cardiff, I think Tomo was still at Bristol. Tomo was a madman, but Tomo was bursting into the bar or into one of the boxes or whatever and then fucking riding Slady around like a horse in the middle of like the Bet365 box in the middle of Cheltenham. it was fucking crackers, man. How did you feel as a player back in the Premier League? I could probably enjoy it a little bit more this time round. The first time round, like I said, it was a whirlwind and I was just in this weird fucking 21, 22 years old.
1:34:26Yeah, just enjoying like every, like week to week, I was like, fucking hell. I can play against Luis Suarez this weekend. Like fucking bonkers. Steven Gerrard, fucking what's going on? I couldn't even get a fucking nowhere near the first team. like I said before anywhere near it so this time round once we got promoted like that season was phenomenal promotion year was fucking unbelievable it was like written in the stars just everything was going in our way and then once we actually started the season I could just kind of enjoy it a bit more I was a little bit older wasn't doing as many silly things still doing stupid shit but not as many trying to keep myself out of trouble and yeah just enjoy it a bit more and kind of as you get older as you're playing then you take a new role you go from being like one of the young pups then you're like the middle age group more established and then you kind of where do you fit into that and then as you get older and then you kind of I was club captain at the time and helping young players and trying to help boys settle in and stuff because we always one thing we always tried to do at Cardiff and I'm sure it was the same when you were here because most people that sign for Cardiff have to live here you can't really commute so you end up having wives, girlfriends friends, lots of families, people get close, people become really good friends here.
1:35:44It's something magical about the club is that when people do come here, you end up making loads of friends. So being the club captain, you try and help facilitate that. You try and help people settle into the club. And I kind of guess that was my role the second time around with lots of new players coming in and stuff, helping people settle and just enjoying the ride. And we were close to staying up that year. it was literally like could have went either way really towards the end what was your favourite game that year you personally from your league season it was some fucking Tonkins that year we took some batterings that year Jesus Christ United away last game of the season we'd already been relegated but we went up there and won which was Gunnar's last game which I think was just a nice way for him to finish like an 8-9 year career at Cardiff Aaron Gunnison by the way not Holly Gunnar but no, Aaron.
1:36:38Aaron's last game was that game. We'd already been relegated, but to go up to United, and I know they were going for a tough time anyway,
1:36:46Sean Morrison:but to go up there and win 2-0, last game of the season, finish the Premier League that way, was nice. It was loads of good moments, man. How were the fans? Do you know what? I think they enjoyed it a lot more the second time round because obviously I wasn't there the first time, but still in the red kit, the red home kit. And then the next time round, we got promoted in blue, played the Premier League season in blue Warner could manage to kind of flip the script a little bit the fans lots of them that refused to ever come back I think were starting to come back in and I think they enjoyed it a lot more the second time round the fans don't get me wrong they would have loved to have stayed up and for the club the size of the club and the potential that's in Cardiff as a club they could be a massive massive the club could be fucking huge so it's almost a bit of a missed opportunity that they never stayed in the Premier League with what comes without the financial backing and building the infrastructure around it all.
1:37:41Do you think he's a better manager for getting promotion than he is staying in the Premier League for a relegation dogfight? Yeah. He's had a lot more promotions. I think Gaff has said this itself along the years. I think he's always struggled to sign a striker. He's always been wicked at bringing players in to play certain roles and be parts of squads, but he's never he's always struggled strikers he's signed have never ever gone on to score 15, 20 goals yeah yeah we signed fucking some bad players like a year in terms of like the striker that come in on loan from Everton I can't even think of his fucking name but he couldn't hit a fucking barn door fucking you don't need a bit of luck in that aspect don't you yeah you fetch somebody in a loan if they have a good season It wasn't in the ass, was it?
1:38:34Sean Morrison:Yeah, he couldn't hit the fucking side of a Renault Spass. I've never heard that one. Big target. He couldn't, honestly, mate, honestly. Sorry, that's fucking, that's my... You were about to get a fucking... Would you, being captain, would you take pride in organising the Christmas do's? I bet even before, even when I signed for Reading, that was like, I want to be on... I reckon I must have done... I want to be on Christmas do's. That was my first, yeah. I want to do Christmas do's. Christmas do's my forte. And where would you go? Like, what was your ideal location?
1:39:14Do you know what? It's difficult. In the UK, obviously, there's like the typical, you're London, you're Manchester, you're Newcastle, then you're Dublin. So I used to just try and get a vibe on the boys, really. Like, where the lads want to go, we'd always have votes. It'd be like, right, we're going to go to this place or this place, fucking choose one. let's not complicate it fancy dress on a Sunday standard there's no way of getting around it everyone's doing it themed or sometimes yeah anything goes usually themed yeah so it'd usually be themed like alphabets or superheroes or double axe double axe was a good one we'd done at Cardiff really really good me and one of the boys went as white chicks really really good so yeah dressed up as two blonde birds basically it was it's a lot of things you know it's like Christmas dudes as long as you get a buy-in from a big chunk of the boys you're going to do alright and it's all about getting the kitty up once the boys get involved with the kitty and fucking fines are coming in so yeah even when I was like 21 at Reading even before I was playing probably that year I was really frustrated I was like I'm taking the Christmas do it's like Joby Joby I'm doing the Christmas do and I like organised it all yeah fucking loved it I love it it's the only thing I miss not playing now a few of the boys were on their Christmas do this weekend and I fucking switched my phone off because they're fucking getting messages through Jordan Hugel was ringing me he's like on the way to Winter Wonderland dressed as like Ibiza boss man he's got like the fucking and I'm like I miss that how was Mick?
1:40:37do you know what I wish I'd played for Mick Mick McCarthy yeah I wish I'd played with Mick McCarthy probably a few years earlier because I think when he came into Cardiff we were going for a bad time I think I don't know if it was the start it must have been COVID was probably going at the time 2021 so Mick's come in Neil Harris has left and then he's given us that big boost we've ended up winning a load of games in a row blah blah blah he's got a contract and then I think that season the beginning of the season I think the ball has said to him like you've got no go and Mick being Mick the way he is he's just like no problem we'll just deal with what we've got if we get injuries we'll just use some young boys like so I felt like his hands were tied a little bit I feel like he was given the job because he had done well but then not really backed to then progress again so we were just left with like the squad we had which was struggling the year before whereas I feel like we would have got a lot more out of him and TC if he was just given a little bit of a backing I felt like his hands were tied a bit and then the wheels were going to fall off at some point and it ended up we ended up losing eight games in a row and he ended up losing his job which was a shame because I really like Mick.
1:41:57He was honest. Fucking honest his day is long. Fucking proper bloke. Good stories. Just a top, top man. He's fucking... So when we were on that little run of like, I think we had lost five or six games in a row. We just lost to Swansea in the South Wales Derby. Got battered, I think. And he was adamant about playing five at the back, but we were playing like, it was me, Flinty, so big Aidan Flint, Curtis Nelson, Mark McGuinness and then Kieran Brown, it's like five centre-halves, like all six foot four. Like no dynamism in the thing at all. Nels was the most athletic by a mile, but the rest of us just want to fucking, we're heads on sticks, we want to head it, kick it.
1:42:41So we're basically playing, it's a back three, but it's a back five, and we're losing games, losing games, losing games. So the boys are like, you're going to have to go and speak to fucking, we're going to have to sort this out, we've got to go to a back four or something,
1:42:53Sean Morrison:we need to get a player out of the pitch and stuff, like we're never gonna win games. So when I knocked on Mick's door and I was like, fucking dreading it a bit, and I was like, Gaffer, I know we are going for a tough time, but I said we need to do something about the formation. I said, we're playing five at the back, we're fucking having one, like, we've lost four or five in a row, we need to change something. Like, I don't know, like we've had meetings and meetings, no one's saying anything, I'd rather not put it out there in the meeting, I'd rather come and speak to you face to face and get it done like this, and he just went, how do you think you're doing this season?
1:43:23and I was like, ooh.
1:43:28He's just twisted it back onto me. Jedi at work. I'll see you in Eurasia. And I was like, yeah, not great. I was like, but I said, can anyone? I was like, we've lost a load of games in a row. We're fucking having one. I was like, anyone says they're doing all right, they're fucking lying. I said, we're all having one. We're not playing well. Individually as a team, I said, we're crap. He was like, I don't think you're playing very well. at all I was like no I've just said that you're just repeating what I've just said yep and then he just started going in on me a bit and I was like yeah fair I've opened myself up for it I've come and I'm questioning what he's doing he has every right to fucking gun at me because I wasn't playing great I had a shit pre-season I've got injured I was struggling with like form and stuff so fucking fair do's but I've come out of the meeting and my tail between my legs a little bit and like I remember Alex Smithies was like how'd it go and I was like, not great.
1:44:25I was like, I was like, I think we're going to play four, back four on Tuesday at Fulham away. I was like, I don't think I'm going to play though.
1:44:36I was like, I'm pretty sure, I'm pretty sure we're playing four at the back and I'm sure I'm not one of those four. So, maybe it's a good, I don't know, it might be a good thing for the team but a bad thing for me. And now I was fucking hitting the nail on the head. Squad went up, fucking team went up. Nowhere near it. Morrison, sub. I was like, fucking it is what it is, do you know what I mean? So you've gone in town and help and you're just like way out the team. Basically, yeah. But Mick was such a proud guy. Like, mate, he's been doing it for fucking donkey's years. Like, he's someone like Warnock level, do you know what I mean?
1:45:13Like, fucking proper hero of like fucking English football. Like, everyone knows Mick McCarthy. Like, one-liners, good guy, honest bloke. been there and done it fucking hundreds and hundreds of games. So, what can you do? You just go in there and you try it like, we're in a bad space and I knew something needed to be said, but I don't think he took it in a way as if like he was fuming at me, but I would love to have had the hindsight to know if I had not gone in, what would have gone on the next game? Because, you know, I didn't play the next two. But then we ended up losing the next two anyway, ended up losing his job.
1:45:52which I was sad about, I was never happy about because I really like Mick.
1:45:59We're only stopping for a second, gents, but it is for a good bloody reason. Look at that. That, you holding that up has just taken over from that jacket thing as the best garment on display. Yeah, it looks superb. It's immaculate, isn't it? Let's be honest. It feels superb. Warnock was always good for a, I always remember one of the games, I don't know if it was the Premier League year or the promotion season, but we'd come in from a game, we'd lost the game.
1:50:00Sean Morrison:it might have been the promotion year and the gaff was fuming Warnock was fuming and he stood by the whiteboard and he's fucking smashing the whiteboard and he's I won't name the player because he's still playing now but he was looking over at one of the boys and he was going you're a fucking pub player his head was gone with him he's like you're a fucking pub player he's like fuck you can't believe it he said why did I sign you're a fucking pub player he's like smashing the whiteboard but as he's doing it He's like getting more and more wound up. And like, Jeppo's like, Gaffer, like, you've said what you need to say.
1:50:34Get yourself in the thingy. And then like, it obviously, he went away into like the little cubby, which was his office, and get wound up again. And he'd fucking fly back out. But this time, he's got his shirt off now. So now he's just in his trousers, shoes, belt, no top on. And then he's, you're a fucking bad player. He's going at him again. He's fuming. He starts, and he catches, you don't want to catch eyes. So everyone's like, Jesus Christ. as he's on one. He'd disappear again and then Blackie would go in and wind him up some more like, yeah, you're right, he's a fucking pub player. And then he'd come out two minutes later but now he's got no trousers on and he's like, you're a fucking pub player, you're a disgrace, I can't believe I signed you and then he'd disappear again and then Blackie would follow him in and you're thinking, Blackie, just let him fucking stew out.
1:51:19And mate, honestly, he flew back in for a third time. This time, he's just in his tighty-whities, socks on and he's just started digging them out again and I was looking across at the lad thinking, just don't say anything back to him just take it on the chin
1:51:31Sean Morrison:whatever you do don't say a word so the lad just there was Ed down and that he's like you're a pub player spam back in Blackie's gone back in again I'm thinking if he comes back out again there's only one more thing he can take off there's only one more thing he can take off and usually you've heard about the pseudocrem and all that but thank fuck he didn't come back out man Jesus Christ but he was always when you were winning games and stuff things were fucking happy as Larry but once you started losing games with the gaffer like he took it personally it was fucking was that it done the said pub player nah nah forgotten about it on Monday yeah because the lad who he was in question as well fucking done really well that season done really well for us that year scored loads of important goals done really well for us fucking wicked lad and the forenook just had one of his fucking moments where he just wanted to he just we all got it at some point there was all we all none of us were ever not capable of getting a fucking roasting off him.
1:52:30I like that though. Yeah. I remember once it was fucking really funny. We played like Fulham. Mitrovic was at Fulham. We lost 1-0 and I'd come off and I had a good game like good battle with the big man. I used to always love playing against him because it was like a proper physical one. Used to love having those kind of games and we were fucking smashing the LHF all game. I would say I probably got the best of him. Come off the game lost 1-0 but fucking had a right game there. and Warnock's pulled me on the Monday and he's like, I want you to come into the office and have a little chat. And I was like, oh, I wonder what this is about.
1:53:04Didn't think anything of it being about the game. And we sat down and then he's like, pressed play on the telly. Not said a word, just pressed play on the telly. I'm like, what's fucking going on here? And we've just watched 20 minutes of me and Mitrovic just resting the fuck out of each other. But I was watching it thinking like, yeah, I've done well there. But what I think he, I don't know, he got in his head that I didn't have a good game. so he's got the analyst to get a compiler load of clips of me and Mitrovic together not watch them ready to hammer me but then we've watched it together and he's realised as well like he's doing alright there so then at the end of it so we've watched mate honestly it must have been about 20 minutes worth of clips of like wrestling getting the better of him couple of them he's got the better of me it was like good battle and then he's like watching it and I'm like thinking is he going to say anything here like I don't really understand what's going on here like because I'm doing what I should be doing and then the thing he's finished and he just went I just wanted to say I thought you'd done really well and then I was like gone on thanks yeah and then I just walked out of the room and again nothing was ever said again but I think he thought he was going to like because we lost and Mitrovic had scored he expected there to be a lot in the clips and it was just yeah it was comical man so you both know what the actual situation was supposed to be yeah You know he's going to cane you, he knows you know he's going to cane you, and obviously watch the video and he just can't.
1:54:31Yeah, because we've watched him, he's there going, that was a good header, that was a good block, that was a good tackle. Can't really hammer him now, can I? I almost did a flip, sorry to flip back and jump in from bit to bit, but it just popped in my head when we'd just been promoted and it was the promotion, not that it was the day after the awards doing all that, the dinner and the gaffers adamant the following weekend we're having the bus tour. So the boys are like, we're all going away with our families. Like, no, like, Marge, you need to go tell him. You need to tell him like bus tour's cancelled.
1:55:07Like we're not going around Cardiff. If we're doing it, we'll do it tomorrow. We'll do it Tuesday, but you couldn't do it because of policing and all that stuff. So we needed time. Warnock was adamant we're doing it. So I'm like, fuck's sake, I've had everyone in my ear. So I'm like, right. I went up to his table, I'm like, oh Gaffer, do you mind if I have a quick word outside? And he's like, yeah, as we're walking, we've gone out into the foyer, but he's gone, Moz, if this has got anything to do with me cancelling this fucking bus tour, he's like, I promise you, I will sell you tomorrow.
1:55:38Sean Morrison:You will never play for this club. He said, I've had everyone in my fucking ear. He said, so promise me, it's fucking better not be about that. And I was like, about a bus tour? I was like, no, I just wanted to come and say, what you've done for me this season is a coach. What you've done for me this season is like a person and a player and a captain. You've just made me into the man I am. And I just wanted to say thank you for everything you've done. And then we hugged out. Give him a big old hug. And I had a real nice moment with him that was just off the cuff. And I've done a UE, gone back in.
1:56:13So all the boys have watched me leave the room with him. As I've come back in, I'm just like... Bust. I love it if they could have seen you as well. They're hooking, they're hooking, it's on. He was fucking fuming about it. He obviously had everyone in his ear, even Jepo, his assistant. As soon as I went out there he just kiboshed it and I was like, nah, it's got nothing to do with it. Joel can play that game, Neil. Where's Steve Evans in the list of managers you've played under? See, when Steve come in, that was right at the back end of my time at Rotherham. I think he probably had the last two, three weeks of the season.
1:56:52Because it was a shambles, wasn't it? Did you have? Oh, my God. How many managers in one season? Four managers in one season. It was an absolute shambles. The club, I loved playing for Rob Rummer. I loved the club. Loved the people that worked at the club. Fans, everyone I spoke to outside the stadium. Wicked, wicked people. But the way the club was run was just a fucking shambles. The training ground was like dog park. Once it got to probably October to February, it was like a foot of mud. We couldn't train. So we were playing like Southampton on Saturday, and then Monday, Tuesday, we're down at the boxing gym doing fucking sparring.
1:57:33We're playing top of the league. We've got like the best squad in the league. And then Thursday, we're doing AstroTurf shape. Friday, we're like doing boxes and then walkthrough. So we're doing like two or three kilometers in training over a full five-day working week, you should be doing about 20, 25K in terms of distance. And then we're going and playing a game against top of the league and getting battered. But like, no one saw that, do you know what I mean? And then we're going out there and it was just, felt like we were just fighting an uphill battle all year. And fair play to the boys. We had a good group of boys that just kind of dug in.
1:58:06They were like, we didn't have hot water. We didn't have hot showers till like October. So if you'd go and shower, if you were the first like three or four lads to jump in the shower, you'd get like warm water and then after that it was fucking freezing cold so you're like coming in from training like November, December covered in mud if you've been able to train on the pitch and then you're jumping in cold showers and that it was just a fucking shambles and then and no fault of the boys like Matty Taylor who was the gaffer doing their best and then people fucking Wayne O took over Wayne Carlisle who was assistant at the time took over and tried his best Liam Richardson come in and he just losing bottle yeah but then Liam Richardson kind of lost the boys day when he came in and was like standards have been shit you've not been good enough this needs to change that needs to change and we're all thinking all the older boys like wait till you see what we're dealing with like you don't you ain't got a clue what we're dealing with here like you think we're going to go and do some training on that pitch and you're going to make us better it's impossible like we're out there doing shape and he's trying to get boys to pass the ball and honestly it's going from me to you away and just stopping dead in like that much water and we're just trying to keep going it was bonkers yeah we were just fighting uphill battle
1:59:17Sean Morrison:the whole fucking time man trying to keep boys on the side like trying to keep boys going motivation because it could have just been we finished bottom of the league by a fucking long way but the fact the boys were still trying to trying their bollocks off to try and get something out of it doesn't sound like you had a fighting chance really not a chance in the fucking hell especially when we come away from a lot of lads that were there have been at good clubs and know how things are done properly when you train on good training grounds and when things aren't like we're as ex-players and all that like we fucking moan at the best of times we moan about everything but when it's like proper shit like when you can really moan that's when it's bad it was tough and it wasn't fair like we were going out and we were like trying to churn out performances and like the fans are travelling away and coming to games and their numbers and you're just fucking watching us like we're trying our bollocks off but we're just not good enough we just weren't good enough we were playing against teams again hands tied behind our back but I had a fucking good year and a half there some good boys really good lads um when we play when wayne carter i love wayno so i don't want this isn't me hammering him but we had some unreal because obviously when he took over from may he was trying to get momentum going and like i feel good factor back like we need something we need to like get togetherness or whatever and he put on this video it was all in the meeting room and like he's like i've got this video set up for everyone i want you to watch it i'm going to speak about afterwards and we just watched like 20 minutes of top gun and it was just like the fight it's fight scene like goose and maverick just like flying around shooting and like speaking to each other but all you could because the speakers weren't great it was just like all muffled so it's just like fighter jet noise and like guns and then it stopped and he's gone like so what did we learn and we're all like what the fuck i've been in football for a long time i've never seen anything like this like what the fuck is going on what he was trying to say was like communication teamwork and all that but i was like better play with a gun in your pocket we could have got to this without watching 20 minutes of top gun we could have done that you know what i mean just moving on to some important stuff how's your fantasy football what's up group i know he's messaged that as well my mate matty probably um it's good yeah it's good crack one of us we have a good we have a really good we've been doing it for donkey's years now um we pay like 50 quid a month a load of us and end of the season we have like a good old kitty do you know i mean and we have a weekend of fucking fancy dress or whatever we do um you've been doing it long enough that you ever pick yourself you ever by yourself we're not doing it no i wouldn't have put myself that's suicide isn't it it's absolutely team suicide especially that year in the prem as well we're usually good for a goal but that year I was fucking struggling.
2:02:07I should have had a few goals that year and I kept fucking... I had one against Liverpool, I remember at home. Honestly, I've never seen it back. I can't watch it back because I know it's like the easiest chance on the planet. And in real time, I remember thinking, how have I even just missed the ball? But the ball's kind of got crossed over and I think, I don't know if it was Alisson was in goal. He's kind of on the punch it, but he's missed it. But I just didn't think he was going to miss it. And then as he's like missed it, I've like swung my head and then the ball just hit me on the back of the neck.
2:02:36Honestly, from you to me away, open goal. This is to go like 1-0 up against Liverpool at home at the Prem. And then I end up giving away a penalty like five minutes later. Throwing Mo Salah to the deck. But yeah, I would never have put myself in the fantasy. Fucking no chance. I won't put myself in either. I probably would have been a steal. I probably would have been about 3 million quid. The one where you're like, you've picked your team and you just think, oh, I need a centre half. I need a centre half to log in the game. What was the cheapest? well we really really enjoyed that yeah really enjoyed it brilliant

Tis the season, not only for Christmas but the ‘Warnock Season’ so it only feels fitting that we have one of his ex-players in the hot seat this week….Sean Morrison who tells stories about parades, B*llockings and failed b*llockings from the man himself.
It doesn’t just stop at Warnock as Morrison also featured under another cosh favourite gaffer is Russel Slade, who is Cheltenham obsessed with chaos descending every year and us finding out just how big his balls are.
And finally to complete the hat trick is Mick McCarthy who’s dead pan humour will never go out of style. Alongside this incredible trio of gaffers we hear more about Billy Paynter’s pranks, a leaked video and unwanted dog.
Merry Christmas ya filthy animals x
