0:01Hello, this is Mark Satterfield and welcome to the Velvet Rope Playbook. Tonight's chapter. The expert they almost ignored. How to sell to the wealthy without seeking validation. Have you ever had that sinking feeling that the second you open your mouth, someone's going to see right through you? Like they'll notice every flaw, every gap in your knowledge, and just, well, dismiss you. That's the fear of being judged. And it's one of the biggest reasons professionals hold back when selling to the wealthy. Because in their minds, high net worth clients are different. They assume, these people are too smart.

0:36They'll pick apart everything I say. If I don't have all the answers, I'll look like a fraud. I need to prove myself before they'll take me seriously. But here's what most people don't realize. The affluent don't expect you to be perfect. They expect you to be confident. And today I'm going to tell you a story about a real estate agent who almost lost a career-changing client, all because she thought she had to be flawless. And by the way, if you're enjoying this episode and you want to learn how to use storytelling as a tool for getting more affluent clients, well then you need to read my latest book, The Affluent Marketing Blueprint.

1:13Went to number one on Amazon, and best of all, for a short time, I'm giving away a few copies for free, but you've got to go to getwealthyclients.com in order to get in on the deal. Okay, that's getwealthyclients.com. Okay, let's get into it. Let me introduce you to Sarah. Sarah is a successful real estate agent, but she wasn't playing in the ultra-luxury space, at least not yet. She was good at what she did, selling nice homes to nice people, until one day she gets a call. A wealthy investor, calm David, was looking for a luxury property. Now, David wasn't just any client. He had a$15 million budget and an expectation that everything be handled flawlessly.

1:57And Sarah, she was terrified. From the moment they met, Sarah was on edge. David was sharp, direct, no small talk. As they toured houses, she felt like she was being tested. And in her head, the doubts were getting louder and louder. What if I say something wrong? What if he asks me about a marketing trend I don't have memorized? What if he realizes I've never sold a property at this price point before? So she did something subtle, but deadly. She started over-explaining. Instead of competently answering questions, she kept justifying herself. Instead of owning her expertise, she kept seeking his approval.

2:36And guess what? David noticed. By the end of the third house tour, he stopped making eye contact. He got shorter in his responses. Yes, his interest was fading. Sarah could feel it. She was losing him. And then it happened. David turned to her and said, You know, you seem knowledgeable, but you don't sound sure of yourself. and I don't work with people who second-guess themselves. Boom! That was the moment Sarah realized she wasn't being judged for knowing everything. She was being judged for not owning what she did know. That night, Sarah had a choice. She could either keep trying to prove herself to wealthy clients or own her authority and stop seeking validation.

3:18So she chose the second. Next morning, she called David. And instead of trying to impress him, she said, David, you're right. I don't know everything, but here's what I do know. I know how to find the best properties for my clients. I know how to negotiate better than anyone in this market, and I know how to make sure this deal is smooth and stress-free for you. That's why you should work with me. Silence. Then David chuckled and said, that's what I wanted to hear. Let's move forward. Sarah went on to close the biggest deal of her career. Not because she became perfect overnight, not because she had a fancy credential to wave in his face, but because she finally showed up as the expert, not the applicant.

4:00Now, here's why Sarah's mindset shift worked. High net worth clients don't need for you to be flawless. They need for you to be confident. Perfection doesn't build trust. Certainty does. The moment you start over-explaining, you lose them. Wealthy clients don't want someone who's asking for permission to be the expert. They want someone who already is. You don't have to know everything. Just own what you do know. The difference between an average salesperson and a top closer? One tries to have all the answer. The other knows where to find them. So look, stop trying to prove yourself. Start positioning yourself as the leader in your space.

4:42because the second you stop needing their validation is the second you start getting their business. So if the fear of being judged has ever held you back from working with high net worth clients, let this be your reminder. They're not looking for perfect. They're looking for certain. And when you walk into a room owning your expertise, they notice, they listen, and they buy. So if this makes sense to you and you want more strategies on how to attract consistent streams of brand new affluent clients with no cold calling or hard selling, well then head on over to GetWealthyClients.com where you can request your free copy of my Amazon number one bestselling book, The Affluent Marketing Blueprint.

5:25Yeah, that's right. It's free, but only for a short time. So you need to go to GetWealthyClients.com. This is Mark Satterfield. Thanks again for listening. I'll be back at you soon with another chapter in the Velvet Rope playbook. Bye for now.
