0:01Hello, this is Mark Satterfield, and welcome to the Velvet Rope Podcast. Today we're talking about the high-ticket story system. Here's the deal. If you're trying to attract wealthy clients using the same tired old marketing tactics that everyone else is using, you're wasting your time. The ultra-rich don't respond to cold calls, they don't care about your credentials, and they sure as hell aren't clicking on your Facebook ads with stock photos of yachts and champagne glasses. If you really want to land high net worth clients, you need to understand one simple truth. They buy based on emotion, status, and trust, not logic.

0:44And the best way to trigger those emotions? Stories. Don't test, just take my word for it. Here's what the research says. A study from Harvard Business School found that 95 % of purchasing decisions are driven by subconscious emotions, not rational analysis. Another study by Paul Zak, he's a neuroscientist at Claremont Graduate University, discovered that stories increase the level of oxytocin, the trust hormone in the brain, making people more likely to take action and say yes. In other words, if you're trying to sell to the affluent using bullet points and spreadsheets, you're shooting yourself in the foot.

1:25But when you wrap your message in the right kind of story, that's when the magic happens. Let me share how I figured this out, and it's actually not a pleasant story. Back when I first started consulting for real estate agents and financial advisors who wanted to attract wealthy clients, I noticed a pattern. The ones who struggled were always talking about their services in a transactional way. Here's what I do. Here's what I charge. Let's schedule a meeting. Meanwhile, the ones killing it, they weren't selling at all. They were telling stories. Take one of my first clients, a financial advisor who was stuck working with middle-class clients who nickled and dimed him.

2:06He was doing all the right things, sending newsletters, hosting webinars, offering free consultations, but he couldn't break into the affluent market. So we rewired his approach. Instead of talking about financial planning in generic terms, we built an insider story around his experience working with ultra-high net worth families. He started positioning himself as the guy who helped wealthy clients access little-known investment opportunities reserved for the elite. What happened? Within three months, he landed his first$10 million client, without changing a single thing about his actual service.

2:44All we changed was the way he positioned himself through storytelling. Here's another study for you. Behavioral economist Daniel Kahneman. he's the guy who won a Nobel Prize for studying how people make decisions, found that people don't actually make choices based on facts. Instead, they make emotional decisions and then justify them with logic after the fact. This explains why wealthy clients aren't necessarily looking for the best service provider in a logical sense. They're looking for someone who feels like the right choice. And a way to create that feeling? Yep, stories. Take a luxury real estate consultant I worked with.

3:25Like most agents, he was struggling to stand out in a sea of competitors all claiming to be experts. Instead of competing on market knowledge and pricing strategies, which every other agent was doing, we repositioned him as the insider access story guy. He started telling high net worth buyers about his exclusive relationships with developers and private sellers, how he could get them access to properties before they even hit the market. The result? He went from struggling to get listing to becoming the go-to agent for ultra-high net worth clients who wanted something exclusive. Because he wasn't just selling real estate, he was selling access.
