0:02Hello, this is Mark Satterfield, and welcome to the Velvet Rope Podcast. Tonight's episode, The Shotgun Trap. So you want to work with affluent clients? Great. But here's the problem. Wanting isn't a strategy. Too many professionals jump in without a clear game plan. They throw money at ads, post generic content, attend random networking events, and hope something sticks. And when it doesn't, they assume wealthy clients are just hard to reach. The truth? Affluent clients aren't hard to reach. They're hard to impress. And if you don't have a precise strategy, you're just another voice lost in the noise.

0:45Today, I've got a story about a consultant named Scattershot Stevie, a billionaire entrepreneur called Blueprint Benny, and the moment Stevie learned that without a focused plan, you're just wasting time and money. And by the way, if you're enjoying this episode and want to learn how to use storytelling as a tool for getting more affluent clients, head over to Velvet Rope Stories Selling for the details. Alright, let's get into it. Stevie Sullivan was ambitious, a consultant with big dreams. He wanted to work with ultra-high net worth clients. So he did what most people do when they don't have a strategy.

1:28He did everything. One week he was running Facebook ads, the next he was cold calling CEOs, then he started a podcast but quit after three episodes. Then he joined five different networking groups but never went consistently. Stevie was busy, but busy isn't the same as effective. Then came Blueprint Benny. Benny Lockwood was a billionaire who had built three separate empires. A mutual connection introduced him to Stevie, and Stevie saw his shot. He pitched Benny on his services, rattling off everything he could do, marketing strategy, leadership consulting, operational efficiency, executive coaching, and I think there were a dozen other things.

2:12Benny listened, then leaned forward and asked, Stevie, if I hire you, what's the one thing you'll do better than anyone else? Stevie hesitated. Well, I customized my approach for each client, Benny held up a hand. Nope, that's not what I asked. I asked what you're the best at. What's your blueprint? Stevie didn't have an answer. And that moment hit Stevie pretty hard. Because he realized something. Wealthy clients don't hire generalists. They hire specialists with a clear, proven strategy. So Stevie went back to the drawing board. He stopped doing everything and focused on one thing. helping luxury services businesses turn their clients into high-ticket referral machines.

3:00He built a system around it, created content that spoke directly to that need, developed a high-end offer with a clear process. And six months later, he wasn't chasing affluent clients anymore. They were coming to him. So let me ask you, do you have a clear blueprint, or are you throwing things at the wall hoping something sticks? Because wealthy clients don't buy from the loudest voice in the room. They buy from the one with a plan. Thanks for listening to this chapter of the Velvet Rope podcast. If you're enjoying these stories and want to get better at using stories to attract more affluent clients, yep, I can help.

3:42I teach individuals and sales teams how to sell with stories just like you hear here. Head over to VelvetRopeStorySelling.com to learn more. Thanks again for listening. This is Mark Satterfield. I'll be back with you soon with another chapter in the Velvet Rope Playbook. Bye for now.
